Great

By Joanne B |

Great environment. We went there for lunch on Friday when the skies opened up in New York and it rained all day. My partner and I booked a table and when we arrived was instantly met and assisted with our umbrella. The service when seated was prompt and had no issues. The food was delicious. Whether you just want a panini or something more substantial this place is great and a must try.

A warm welcome on a cold night

By Laurie R |

We stayed in the neighborhood while visiting the World Trade Center Memorial and the OneWorld observatory. In viewing the weather forecast, we realized we had chosen one of the coldest possible nights for our visit, so that narrowed down our restaurant choice to whatever was in short walking distance from our hotel. This place is famous for a head chef that beat Bobby Flay in a meatball challenge, so that was good enough recommendation for us. My thanks to the weather and Bobby Flay for leading us to this gorgeous neighborhood joint. Our waiter was a delightful gentleman, who shared my husband's love of the bolognese. The meatballs lived up to their reputation. I recommend starting with the meatballs and moving on to the carbonara pasta. The restaurant is cozy and inviting...a great place for a casual yet romantic dinner.

Great dinner

Took the opportunity to have dinner with good friends while in NYC on business. Gran Morsi was recommended. We loved the place. Great pasta dish, super drinks, incredible desert. The only thing better than the dinner was spending time with my friends.

A perfect evening

By Tedward1964 |

Came here during restaurant week. That can be a challenge, so I made a reservation to make sure we could get in. We arrived 5 minutes before our appointed time and were seated immediately. After browsing the wine menu, we were unsure what to pick and requested some advice. Our waiter Zach made an excellent suggestion that we loved! He also went over the specials and we made our choices. The prosciutto appetizer and the meatballs were delish! Then we moved on the papardelle bolognese and chicken parmesan. Both were served piping hot and were amazing! All of the servers were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was very busy, but we never felt like they were too busy to look after us, and Zach was just great. The manager Frederck was also wonderful. We really enjoyed every minute there. I will definitely be back!

Excellent Choix

By Carolyn S |

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I popped in for a solo dinner but the restaurant was hopping with a variety of diners. I selected the restaurant week menu and was not disappointed. Great bar area to stop by for a drink.

Noisy and uninspiring

By bbtears |

Not an enjoyable evening with all the loud noise around when you can’t even have a normal conversation at dinner without having to shout (for a minute I thought we were in a club)! Stay away from the diablo carne pizza as it’s just too salty!

Impeccable service, good food!

By Cioccolato18 |

Amazed at how friendly and fast service is here. They treat you like family. ALL staff is nice. Water filled and mess cleaned fast. Also the food was very tasty.

Pirates and Wednesday (from Addam's family), oh my...

By muhlberg |

It's Halloween night and the eve of the NYC Marathon so I asked my concierge at the hotel for a recommendation for a close, quiet, Italian restaurant and he sent me to Gran Morsi. As a pre-race routine, I always try to eat dinner before 6 p.m. When I showed up at 5:30, I was the first and only patron there. Needless to say, all attention was on me! Knowing New Yorkers don't eat until at least 10, I felt the need to explain my situation so they didn't think I was there for an Early Bird Special. A collective response of "Ahhh, okay" put me at ease. I ordered the spinach paparadelle with bolognese sauce and IT WAS REALLY, REALLY GOOD. I could have had another portion and probably shoud have since I had 26.2 miles to burn it off. In summary, I would have returned there post-race had I not been so tired from exploring the entire city on foot. I'd definitely go back the next time I visit. Everyone there was gracious and attentive and the ambiance perfect.

Not family friendly. Average service & average value

By David B |

Just been for dinner. The service was poor; it was slow and generally not impressive. There is no children's menu. Not typically a huge issue. Most restaurants are flexible and accomodating. Unfortunately not here; our son just had a simple bowl of pasta + a drink & ice-cream. The bill was $40. This would be ok if we felt welcome. We were there for 2.5 hours despite the restaurant being less than half full. Fortunately our son is use to restaurants & was well behaved. They provide nothing to amuse children & with slow & poor service it could be difficult. Value wise; it was poor too. Tonight is our last night of a 28 day trip across the USA. This meal was the worse value meal we've had while we've been away (approx 50 meals out in last month). I did query the bill / cheque. The manager knocked off $2 which was simply insulting. The food was ok just be careful if you are taking children. We were the only family there.

So so

By amerston |

Small place seems like a glorified pizzeria. Food was ok but service was terrible. Only time table was checked on was after a dish was brought out. In between we just sat and waited. Decor seems to uptight and extremely generic. Nothing personable or warm about this place. Upon reading the reviews that brought me here they all seem to have one theme. Cheap pricing. Btw it is not located in TriBeCa. I will not return considering I have much to choose from in walking distance from my TriBeCa home. It's sad but now just a memory.

Very Good Solo Lunch

By DRLand |

In town on business I stopped in to Gran Morsi for lunch on my own. There were plenty of seating options -- I chose a high top table in the bar and was the only one in that part of the restaurant -- great for popping out the iPad! The food and service were both very good. Sandwich was more like a meal and I really liked the innovative side salad -- not your usual boring salad. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I'd like to return for dinner one day.

Nice Experience

By le5691 |

The menu is outstanding - there is something for everyone. Everything is good and the service is wonderful. We went with small children and they were very accomodating.

Gran Morsi

By Donna H |

Left the 911 Memorial and wasn't sure where to go for a nice sit down and drink. Asked a woman walking passed us and she said, "try the Morsi. You'll love it." And we did. Both the food and service were outstanding. We had the lemon chicken and eggplant parmigiana. Prices were no higher than any other nice place to eat in the city. Easy walk from the memorial. Highly recommend it. Would definitely go back on a return visit NYC.

Warm welcome and lush food

By Jo P |

We were wandering around downtown NYC looking for Italian food, when we happened upon this little gem. A small discrete frontage, we nearly missed it. But once inside the welcome was warm, all of the employees were engaging and attentive. My Hubby had meatballs to start followed by Diablo Carne pizza. I had a beet and goats cheese salad, followed by the Gnocci. Every morsel was delicious. The truffles and cheese in the Gnocci especially so. Thx to all for a wonderful evening.

Casual Dinner for Two, very good food, excellent service.

By Neil P |

My wife and I dined here, having just found it walking in Tribeca. They were able to seat us with no reservation, but I suggest getting one as they were pretty busy (we got lucky). The best part of the experience was the service, excellent! We each had a salad, and split a diablo pizza, which was very good, very much like a pizza you would get in Naples. The greenmarket vegetable salad was unique and refreshing, excellent taste, very fresh. The only negative was the noise, but what else is new, its New York. Highly recommended.

Yum!

By Kswany |

Elegant setting with outstanding food is what I can say about this place. The food is made with pride and the taste is outstanding. I got the Chicken Parmasian which is served with spaghetti and it was fantastic! Service was amazing and served our group of 13 people with ease and class. Go for a fun night in NYC!

DELICIOUS AND FUN!

By Travel L |

We ate dinner here with family and had so much fun. The drinks and the food was delicious, the wait staff were fun and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was very lively. For carnivores like me, I recommend the hanger steak with arugula salad, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, fingerling potatoes and 21 year old balsamic vinegar. Wash it down with a smoked old fashioned (which they smoke table-side) and for desert, try the vanilla panna cotta. Once you've had your fill, head for the basement for a dueling piano and comedic experience. Feel free to get up and dance to burn off the calories and fumes!

An Evening With Art & Friends

By Suzy_Shopper |

What a fun evening at Gran Morsi! We were in the area to enjoy an art opening for International Women’s Day across the street. When things got too busy at the opening, we went across the street for drinks. After drinks we went back to the gallery, finished up seeing the art show and told Jonathan, the restaurant manager ? That we would be back shortly for dinner. He couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful. So we returned in about an hour and sure enough, a wonderful corner table was waiting for the 4 of us! Dinner was excellent. We all shared a bunch of appetizers and pizzas. The food was very good. I especially loved the Autumn. Pizza with Brussels sprouts. Really yummy. The burrata was very good too along with meatballs, yummy. We really had a very enjoyable evening at this very welcoming Tribeca restaurant. Kudos to Jonathan for running a great ship! All of the servers were really nice to dine with. Thanks for a great evening!

Great find

By Rod B |

Saw the reviews on TripAdvisor and needed a cozy place to have a romantic bite. Certainly not disappointed. Beautiful modern restaurant and bar. Delicious food. We shared the meatballs to start as they were Food Network winning meatballs. Terrific taste with a light texture. Pasta followed which was a departure from usual noodles and flavours. A success from both dishes. Dessert came in the form of a light cheesecake and gelato. All this was accompanied by attentive and very upbeat service. A perfect evening for a impromptu date night. Wine by the glass is competitively priced and good.

Disappointing

By GGOT |

My second time to Gran Morsi for lunch with local friends. They can handle parties of 6 to 8 and the noise level at lunch was low (there were not many in the place both times). The service was good and servers very attentive. But the lunch menu (sandwich specials) did not change in the 6 weeks between each visit and the food was blah - dry chicken and the shrimp - 6 very small shrimp per sandwich. At the end of the meal we ordered coffee and then asked for a refill - the waiter told us we would be charged for a second cup (at $4 each). I cannot remember the last restaurant in NYC that did not offer a free refill on coffee. Not sure what the owners are thinking with this policy - it certainly is not their local customers.

Great location. Great food

By stentdoc |

We had very good Italian food. The mushroom pizza was terrific and the linguini Nero was very good but a bit tangy. A very weak wine list

Average but expensive italian dining.

By epicurious |

Given the demographics of New York we expected something a bit better. None of the dishes stood out as 'great food' and were certainly not great value. At $50 the bottle of negromaro (a relatively high yielding varietal costing $5-10 a bottle in Italy) was way overpriced. The waiter was chatty and efficient but overall the near compulsory 'gratuity' wasn't justified. Whilst we accept this is a 'local custom' it is odd that New York restaurant owners haven't managed to work out the cost of employing staff and figured it into their menu prices.

Fantastic dinner in a wonderful place

By Debby G |

It's not easy accommodating 30 people on a Saturday evening, but Gran Morsi did it with grace, attentive service and fantastic food. Gluten free options are plentiful... And the stuff is attuned to saying , The Frito Misto is breaded in rice flour, but the deep fryer is used for other foods. I keep going back to the food... Great selection and each dish was perfect. The selection of drinks and wines was also impressive. A great time was had by all.

Wonderful Food!

By sgannot23 |

I ate at Gran Morsi a few weeks ago with some colleagues. I must say, without exaggeration, that I ate one of the best Eggplant Parmigiana I have ever had in my life - and I don't even like eggplants!

What a place!

By Andrew T |

Gran Morsi is one of my favourite restaurants ever. If it wasn’t over 3000 miles away, I would definitely visit more often. It was a highlight again, when on vacation in New York. The food is absolutely stunning like the decor inside. The staff at the restaurant are really friendly and the service is impeccable. If you you go to New York, you must make a trip here and give your taste buds a treat like they have never had before.

Must try a place while at NYC

By UmeshGambhir |

A wonderful evening at Glan Morsi while our visit to NYC. We just entered this place randomly at evening as feeling hungry and thirsty for some drinks. Their food as we tried and found amazing, Variety of drinks and atmosphere compelled us to stay there longer and to enjoy. The service and hospitality was highly appreciable.

Great food, service could improve

By 1lifetotravel |

LOVED the industrial decor/ ambience of this place which lends it a special feel especially during dinner time. Food too is great and portions are fantastic. The only reason for a 4 point rating (and not 5) is service by staff which was lagging. One had to follow up with them on orders, billing even though the restaurant was not too busy given it was a week night.

Redemption

By Optimistic26 |

Let me preface this by saying that for many years the thought of eggplant parmigiana was a traumatic reminder for my taste buds. I had the pleasure of attending an event at the Grand Morisi. There were many samples of food and in my hungry haste unwittingly i took a piece of the eggplant parmigiana. Well....i can tell you that the world stopped and all the little molecules it mouth excitedly began to collide in vigor(a bit zealous here but you get the picture). I enjoyed the first experience i went back a second time. I gave 4 stars because the egg plant parmasean was the only dish i really really enjoyed wasnt sold on the pizza, slightly salty for my taste. The decor is warm and luxuriouly homely. The staff i should point out are warm and friendly without that over sell feel. I say this is a great spot for a date or intimate time with a friend. Defintely will go back when i get eggplant itch.

I Hated My Meal So Why 5 Stars??

By Edward F |

Went to Gran Morsi last week, one of my first trips back to NYC since it has "reopened." There were 5 of us, the place is fairly small, but beautifully laid out and a great bar. Most everyone's meal looked fabulous and was totally enjoyed. I ordered the lasagne which had mashed potatoes in it, bacon, wild mushrooms and an egg on top. I misunderstood and thought it would be all mixed together like a carbonara. I ate about half and the manager came by and I told her they should take it off the menu - it wasn't working. She offered to replace the meal and I declined since I was pretty full. Our host ordered a steak and wanted it very rare. It came a little less than very rare. They took it back and replaced the steak. The bill came and they didn't charge for my lasagne or the steak (in fact they paid for 2 steaks when you think about it). At most we expected a round of drinks. The manager said we want you back and we will be back. Like I said, everyone else was thrilled with their meal, the drinks, and the ambience. It's not how far you fall, it's how you recover. And this place recovered magnificently. Can't wait to try it again

try the egg plant parmigiana

This is a vibrant and popular bar and restaurant. We enjoyed the pizza and the egg plant parmigiana was fantastic.

Recent visit

By Northerncpl |

We were recommended to this restaurant by our hotel the Ritz Carlton, this was a last minute booking for dinner as the kids wanted pizza and somewhere within 10 mins of our hotel. From entering the restaurant I have to say the service was impeccable and the hosts were very welcoming and informative throughout the evening. The free cucumber drink supplied by Barbara was excellent & very refreshing!! We then had the pre starter bread and fried zucchini which was delicious followed by meatballs and fritto Misto to start and three LARGE pizza for main!! The food which was excellent & served efficiently with adequate time between courses. All in all this is a restaurant I would certainly recommend and as it has only had a few reviews on Trip Advisor I assume it's pretty new. However on tonight's evidence I think it will be climbing those charts very quickly over the coming weeks. Thanks for a great meal.

Rehearsal Dinner

By ceatea798 |

We recently attended a private event. Service was very good. Food was adequate but the bar did run very smoothly. It is a nice private space, downstairs, and it seemed to have all the design elements making up a beautiful venue but somehow, the atmosphere just did not deliver. The buffet line was set up in an awkward cramped place and the food, gosh was just plain bland. I would return but only for the incredible service.

Excellent food b ut different; attractive atmosphere

By MV Traveler |

This is an interesting restaurant with a different atmosphere from other places in New York. The service is good (although the drinks are not that large). Food is excellent and service staff is very good. Most tables are side by side for 2 persons, making conversations are a bit challenging, but the noise level is lower than many NY restaurants. Eating early here makes sense. A placew to return to.

Amazing and refreshing

By Doctor Steve |

This is my new favourite restaurant in Manhattan! The staff are amazing and attentive, totally understanding of their dinners needs. The food was busting with flavour and the wine was as equally well paired! This will undoubtedly become a regular haunt when in NYC

Delicious dinner

By Matthew L |

The pasta was incredibly fresh and creative. Squid ink lobster pasta was AMAZING!!!! Nice chill vibe. Service was great. Special mention to Jamal who was attentive and very pleasant.

Great Food and Service

By Chris F |

Our hotel recommended Gran Morsi for a special family dinner and we were not disappointed. Each selection was well prepared and served by a skilled wait staff. We enjoyed a variety of dishes including Artichokes Alla Romana, Papperdelle Bolognese and Eggplant Parmigiano. The Fritto Miso and Diablo Carne were also favorites.

Good food, great service!

By matthiashess |

We visited during Restaurant Week and were pleasantly surprised. The venison ragu and leg of lamb were excellent. The sorbetto was very good, but unfortunately the cheesecake was frozen and rather tasteless (should have gone for the panna cotta). Our server could not have been better, handling dietary restrictions (and indecision) gracefully. We also loved the herb gardens on the wall in back. I would like to return and try some of the other things on the menu.

Fabulous contemporary Italian with great staff

By Happyfamily29 |

My family simply loved this contemporary Italian restaurant - great, varied menu with something for everyone, fair prices, exemplary service and fabulous atmosphere. We dined here twice and would definitely return. Best Arancini and fresh Pappardelle pasta in New York!

Get Deal for NYC

Delicious food! Very affordable for NYC. Great decor. There were couples, families and friends dining. No reservations and we were able to sit right down. I was a visitor but my local hosts love this place. Now I do too.

Good family/friends Italian

By Joel_Tzipi |

The hotel concierge sent me there. There is an upbeat atmosphere, and even on a weeknight apparently quite a few groups of friends, some baby carriages, etc. Very friendly service with mid-range prices. Food was tasty and nicely presented. A good Italian meal for an evening out, but not a special dining experience. I would return for another go at it, if I am in the neighborhood.

Niece's bridal shower

By Arlene R |

I came here on 9/21/19 to celebrate my niece's bridal shower. i was very disappointed. The food was cold and very salty. They also had the air conditioning turned up full blast. About the food being salty, I have high blood pressure and was afraid to eat the food.

Lovely place but little disappointed with our meal

By Jean-Pierre-029 |

It was Sunday night and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. The service was great and spent a good moment. But the food was just average, very salted not original... Typical American Italian food for business lunch.

Food is good, price is high and the portions are small

By Allan K |

Dinner with friends. Typical NYC "trendy" restaurant. Good atmosphere and very good service. Food is very good, but I'm giving it an average rating because of the size of their portions as compared to the cost. I had the chicken parm dinner that came with pasta. Looked like a 4 oz chicken cutlet with a small amount of pasta for $25. Fish entree looked like a 4 oz portion. Glass of wine $17 for about 3-4 oz. $80 per person included one bottle of wine and 2 glasses of wine.

Gran Morsi. Best Meal

By Leandra B |

After visiting the One World Trade Center we wanted a nice meal close by. I found Gran Morsi online and it looked stylish and inviting. Menu looked good and the photos of the food looked appetising so I booked a table for 9pm. The restaurant wasn’t busy thankfully as everywhere is busy in New York. We order the Octopus to share for starters, amazing, fresh, succulent and the spices were delicious. My partner had the Diablo pizza and I had the Orecchiette pasta which was delicately flavoured with housemade sausage, broccoli, Parmesan and chillies in a light broth, best pasta dish I’ve eaten in a long time. The Pizza was just as good, great dough base and full of flavour and plenty of topping, now my partner isn’t easily pleased when it comes to food and some would say it’s just a pizza but when he says it’s a good pizza it means they’ve got it right. Tiramisu and panacotta to finish off a great meal. Service was excellent, can’t say what it would be like at busy times but we were well looked after. Highly recommend a visit.

Delicious addition to the neighborhood

By slsnyc |

Gran Morsi is a welcome addition to a neighborhood. The modern yet cozy space is very comfortable. The menu is fairly classic Italian, but with some modern twists. I visited with two other people recently and we were all very impressed with the food. My seafood pasta was particularly good, as was my colleague's steak. The service needs a little polish, but was very pleasant. Nothing to complain about. I will definitely go back.

Good honest pasta etc

By Andy T |

Basic interior/chairs/tables belie some lovely pasta cooking wth great sauces. The bolognaise sauce was rich in flavour with a creamy consistency. Pasta cooked perfectly too. Can get a little noisy which adds to the atmosphere!

Disappointing

By CMMM |

We arrived and realized that our reservation did not go through. They accommodated us with a seat in an unremarkable shed outside although the restaurant was almost empty. We ordered the "meatball that beat Bobby Flay" which was good; however, Bolognese pasta was average and fish that was cooked in a lemon caper sauce was flavorless. The staff was very friendly, and when we described our disappointment the host did came outside and apologized. He did not offer any compensation such as a dessert. Would not recommend or go there again.

Just short of "Gran"...

By Stephen K |

Staff was most accommodating, appetizers exceptional, food was well presented and cooked to perfection... For me, there was just something missing, perhaps it was the ambiance; just something prevented me from a 5 star review. Would I go back? Yes, perhaps I missed something. Would I recommend Gran Morsi? Yes, perhaps I wasn't in the mood. Just can't put my finger on it. But the food was really good and the tastes were up to my very high standards. Overall, it was a worthwhile dining experience for about 30 of us and me.

great food and service

By Sue S |

Wonderful family style dinner with colleagues at this small but very noisy little restaurant. The food, wine and service were topnotch but beware, it is on the expensive side.

Nice Italian Spot

By Naseem |

The food here was very good, and the menu was expansive and appetizing. Exactly what I was looking for in an Italian spot. Small, cozy little place close to the memorial downtown. I ordered the Burrata appetizer and the pasta bolognese, which was very tasty. The prices are about what you'd expect in NYC, although I thought the portions were a bit on the small side. I will definitely eat here again when I'm in the downtown area.

GREAT FOOD and service, but very noisy

By Tomer_where_to_next |

Went there with friends on a Saturday night. The service was amazing. Both of our waitresses were super nice and courteous. We ordered the Forrest Mushroom Pizza, the chicken parmigiana, the tagliatelle pasta, and spaghetti bolognas. They were all super delicious! I tasted all of them. The courses were big and filling. We also got a bottle of Malbec which three of us shared and it was great. We had a great time but you should take into consideration that the place is extremely noisy. I wonder if the restaurant can do anything about that, but it was just packed with groups of people and we kinda had to shout through the evening. It's fine but you should think about it if you plan on focusing on just talking... The waitress made a small mistake with our order but was super apologetic and gave us a free glass of Prosecco. We thought that was very nice and kind of them to do and think it shows a lot about how good the place was. We would love to go back there, maybe at quieter times of the day.

Don’t plan a bridal shower or other private event anywhere else! Gran Morsi is the PERFECT spot!

By Judith G |

BEST Place to HOST A BRIDAL SHOWER at this NEW YORK CITY GEM!! FABULOUS Food, room space, attentive staff, ease in planning for private parties. We were group of 30 but did not use bar area and so space could hold more people. Afternoon was perfect. Combo of passed and buffet but they also do table service. Set up separate tables for gifts and a cake table. Inside is a brick wall and some greenery making it feel warm and inviting. Their music play list was great and they offered to go boxes and bags to pack up remaining items If we wanted. Could not have found a better spot. Parking close by. It was easy planning from my very first inquiry and their responsiveness and attention was superb. I live out of the country but am a New Yorker and did all remote without ever even seeing the space first!!! Hope my daughters wedding goes as smoothly!!

Charming and focused Italian

By SDR |

Charming and focused Italian in TriBeCa. No “scene” here, but modern and simple (in a good way) Italian with a reasonably-priced wine list and plenty of amaros. Restaurant week was an especially good deal, but I’ll be back for a regular meal when I’m in town again.

Great lunch

By Joanne B |

Great environment. Great service and a really quality ethic going on. We were greeted at the door and the service by the server was exceptional. The food is delicious and the ambience was really nice. A must visit you won't be disappointed by the food, atmosphere and service.

Deliciously Fresh

Dined our first night in NYC. Delicious meal. The pasta was mouth watering. Great flavors. Lovely service. A great quiet dinner in a local spot.

A gem

A relaxed place with outstanding food. It's a small, excellent place we are fortunate to have in our neighborhood. Certainly worth going back to again and again.

AMAZINF FOOD, SERVICE and DECOR

By Richard G |

I live in Brooklyn and I am Italian so the food must be great for me even to think about writing a review. I went to this beautiful classy restaurant yesterday with my 18 year old son for lunch. The day was hot (very hot) and the restaurant was COOL and Comfortable. That was just the beginning of a great hour of food and conversation with my son - he actually put his phone in his pocket. The focaccia bread melted with cheese inside was delicious and was the fritto misto. I had the orecheitte and sausage with broccolli rabe and he had chicken parmagianna (he is only half Italian unfortunately). The food was so good he, an 18 year old boy, commmented that this was the best meal he ever had - I smiled. We spend 10 days in Eurpoe two years ago and 5 of those in Italy so this was a real compliment. Great Restaurant, friendly service and just a CLASSY establishment.

Great place

The manager was incredibly kind and accommodating. I would return here anytime! I appreciate their flexibility. It was a lovely meal

A nice place for a wedding

By presenter1 |

I attended a wedding with a guest list of about 110. There are two floors available for event -- we used both. The venue was adequate and the staff attentive. Zack .the manager was kind and efficient. We were able to get in early to decorate which definitely adds to the ambiance. Over all a good experience.

Exceptional Dining

By Leland C S |

The concierge at the New York Conrad suggested this newish Mediterranean themed restaurant when we met up with old friends on our visit to the city. The ambiance is nice and the staff were very pleasant and attentive. We shared the Bruschetta which was truly excellent - and suitably shareable for four. Three of us shared a bottle of white wine which fit the varied tastes. Entrees were Skirt Steak, Orchiette with chicken in wine sauce, a flatbread and a whole stuffed boneless fish from the Mediterranean Sea. All of us were well satisfied as we engaged in lively conversation. I still marvel at how that whole fish came with nary the suggestion of a fish bone. A place well worth a return visit.

Great food, slow service

By Greg318 |

Ate dinner on a Saturday night. A group of 9. Half of us arrived 30 mins. early and sat at the bar. Very eclectic list of cocktails but it took the bartender 30 mins to make 5 drinks. We were the only people at the bar. The cocktails were very good. Seated at our table at 6 and didn't get our main courses till after 8 PM. They were all delicious with very inventive starters and taste combinations but achingly slow. We had to beg for water refills. The space is very nice, a little loud but pleasant. Great meal but you will not eat quickly.

Very loud at dinner

By Stacey |

Very busy and LOUD restaurant. The volume of the diners’ talking is so loud that it’s hard to hear the person sitting across from you. The calamari was excellent but the gnocchi lamb sugo dish I ordered had to be sent back to the kitchen as the gnocchi was overcooked and burnt, it was crunchy and burnt brown. I am surprised the kitchen sent it out. A replacement was delivered to the table but by then my husband had finished his entree. I wouldn’t return because it’s just too loud inside.

Delicious lunch! Will be back

By Felice B |

Work in the area and had lunch with a co-worker who eats out a lot. This restaurant was not known to any of the team as the window area is very small in the front but has ample space further back. Had the meatballs which were delicious and tasted like my Sicilian neighbor's grandmother used to make. The shrimp gazpacho was also very good. Orchiette with broccoli rabe, homemade sausage and chili peppers was hot/spicy but very good. I had chicken piccata which was one of the best I've ever eaten. Desert was coconut sorbet with chocolate sauce or a deconstructed cannoli. My only criticism was the cannoli cream was not smooth and needed a bit more sweetness and the service was a bit slow. Otherwise I'm stuffed and will definitely be back with other colleagues.

The worst

By Huntting |

The worst dining experience I’ve ever had in New York. And I live here, so that’s saying a lot. Fortunately, we decided to leave before spending the whole evening waiting for service from an incredibly rude waitress. Outside, a young mother was holding her toddler. They’d been waiting 45 minutes at the table just to get some noodles for the kid. Manager and maitre d completely clueless. Meanwhile, the entrees were $30+. Do yourself a favor and don’t go here.

Flavor

By LifesShort99 |

Loved it. Had their famous meatballs. They serve two meatballs for an app. On the expensive side but delicious. It had a lovely tang to the sauce and they were very moist. I also had the pappardelle. It was perfect. Wonderful flavor and a lot of meat in the meat sauce. Really enjoyed it.

Incredible

By Rob F |

Second time stopping in for lunch and it was even better than the first time. Impeccable wine selection and food prepared with amazing care to match. It’s a hidden gem which I highly recommend. I started out with the burrata and octopus which were incredible and finished it off with the amazing branzino.

Not a night to remember

By Foodieforlife83 |

I haven't been to Gran Morsi in over a year, I travel to NYC a couple times out of the year for business. My first visit was very memorable, it was a slower night, so the staff was very attentive and personable. I had a late dinner for 1 at one of the bar tables in the front of the restaurant, I was accompanied by great conversation and knowledge of foods by the at the time hostess Gia and bartender Axell, sadly neither of them were there for my visit this time, as I hardly remember the names of any of the staff members servicing me this evening. My review is saved by the quality of the food and wine which is why I will give 2 stars instead of one.

A little esier on the salt woud be good

Went here with a group of friends for a Restaurant Week lunch. The atmosphere and decor of this Italian restaurant is very nice. The service was excellent and our waiter was friendly and professional. As appetizers, one had the arugula salad, two had the polpette meatballs ( a house specialty) and two of us has the soup of the day, a most delicious and hearty chicken soup. My chicken soup was full of vegetables and big chunks of chicken. It was great. We were also served a basket of delicious, hot flat breads with olive oil and also a side of a spicy tomato dressing for the bread. The entrees were a choice of two sandwiches, eggplant parmigiana or porchetta panino. there was also a lamb shank entree on the restaurant menu. Also, which I found annoying) was either a salmon entree or rigatoni in a venison ragu. Both carried supplements over the restaurant menu, $6.00 for the salmon and $4.00 for the rigatoni. Either have a restaurant menu without supplements or don't participate in Restaurant Week. Four of my companions got the sandwiches which were large and they enjoyed them. One ordered the salmon entree and said it was good but did not care for the crust on the seared fish. I ordered the lamb shank which was a nice tender portion. My complaint was that it was a bit overly salted. Deserts were ice creams or panna cotta. There regular menu has a much larger selection and looked enticing. Should I return, I will select from their regular lunch or dinner menu

Poor service

I never write Reviews but I had such a disappointing time last night for an expensive meal. My friend invited me to Gran Morsi because the food supposed to be fabulous, which really was, hence the two stars. But the service was horrible ! We were served by tall gentleman that completely ignored us the whole dinner, he was literally chit chatting the whole time with another employee completely ignoring us, we wanted to get another round of drinks and never got an opportunity to order them. Definitely won’t be coming back. Such a shame because the food is wonderful

Nice after work spot

Went with a colleague from work. Reasonably quiet at that time which was great as could find a seat and chat comfortably. Happy hour made drinks a bit cheaper and also had some specials on that was nice. Bar is well stocked generally. Staff attentive

Good option

Gran Morsi is a very cozy Italian food restaurant not far from the 9/11 Memorial. The restaurant is simple, as well as the menu: classic Italian cuisine some of them with a modern twist (as the linguini with broccoli pesto). The service is very friendly. The exciting news it that the executive chef of the Gran Morsi, Kenneth Johnson, won the Food Network Polpette Meatballs challenge (has defeated Bobby Flay)!

Food was good but...

It was extremely noisy. I couldn't hear my husband next to me. Maybe this was a once-off but we'll never know. It was very dark and we all had to get out our cellphones to read the menus. It took a long time for a server to come to our table. A waiter asked our daughter-in-law if she wanted sparkling water and she said yes. He gave it to her with a different glass than the still water (supposedly). He didn't ask anyone else. So my husband and son poured some of the sparkling in their water (/) glasses. I asked for still water. Didn't come. Asked someone else and it came about 5 minutes later - and that person poured sill on top of the sparkling even though my husband said NO. Finally, we ordered. the server recommended an appetizer of bread. (DUH). We waited and waited some more. My husband caught the server and asked about the bread and he said it would come with the meal - how is that an appetizer? The meal did come and we asked about bread again. 2 different kinds arrived. One may have been the "appetizer" and the other was what you'd get while looking at the menu? Who knows. We ordered dessert. Mine was very good. My husband reported later that the server had his thumb in the ice cream dish. Based on the noise level alone, we would have left before ordering, had we not been with our son and daughter-in-law. In fact, at least 2 couples that I could see DID leave without ordering. We won't be back. Good food but enough is enough!

If you enjoy slow service and leisurely dining this is the place

Had reservations for dinner here on a Friday night for party of four. The restaraunt is on Warren street and we were able to find street parking within a block- that was the highlight of the evening. The restaraunt has a bar area with seating and tables in the rear. It is an interesting space with a very open feel and quite comfortable. We were seated promptly and served water, eventually a waiter came by and we ordered our drinks, then we waited it took a good twenty minutes to get our drinks. This would be understandable if the place was busy however it was not, one patron was seated at the bar. Service for food was also slow, the artichoke appetizer and pizza were over salted , the Brussels sprouts, and salad received a thumbs up. For the entrees the pastas with the clams and the bolognase sauce were both good. We skipped desert and were treated to a cordial, by the management. We may have hit this on an off night as staff were friendly enough but food service was extremely slow, as was getting refills on water and drinks. If you enjoy a nice slow unhurried meal you may enjoy this just don't walk in hungry and watch the salt.

Ridiculously delicious

Was suggested by hotel concierge for a quiet Monday evening. Travelling with a friend on business and absolutely wanted Italian. Gran Morsi is tastefully decorated and nicely understated. Good wine list that suited a fairly simple menu. The food was anything but. The Polpette meatballs were amazing and the roasted artichokes alla romana were excellent starters. We were guided to the lemon chicken as a main. The menu description didn't inspire but ...WOW, fabulous. I'd go back for that. It the end, the very attentive restaurant staff were invaluable in guiding us to a delicious dining exp. 1 reasonable btl oh Chianti, 2 starters and 2 mains will set you back $170. Reasonable for a good meal on NYC.

Deliciously Fabulous

A lovely venue tucked away in NYC, great food, great service and a great experience, shame I live in the UK!! You won't go wrong eating here.

So far the worse experience in NY

Just returned from dinner at this place and one question is still botherring me. HOW, just HOOW this restaurant "deserved" almost 5** rating??!! Awfully tasting food (had octopus, burrata, mushrom pizza and watermelon/tomato salad). All of the dishes were worse tasting then chain restaurants cook (and to be honest even I could do much better job with all of them). The "bread service" was an embarrassment to the word "bread" (particularelly for Italian restaurant). And we didn't even want to spend another $15 for dessert thinking it would be even more money wasted). The service was"trying to be" nice but VERY unprofessional. The ambiance is cute but not very cozy or comfotable, with annoying loud music on the background. And the value is HIGHLY OVERPRISED. No wonder the room was almost empty when we arrived at 7:30pm on Sunday and not much fulfilled (3 more tables occupied) when we left. So, we obviously not coming back, but the question still remains: Where all these misleading raving reviews come from?????

We walked in without a reservation

We walked in without a reservation on a Friday evening and were given fast, warm friendly service at the bar. The food was delicious as were the drinks. After dinner we went downstairs to their hilarious Tribeca Comedy Lounge. ( which is part of Gran Morsi, with the same menu)

Knock-out Lasagna, Amazing Service!

By tomtapper |

I really loved this place. They served the best lasagna I've ever tasted and the pasta my wife took was equally impressive - tender fresh pasta with a beautiful tomato sauce and a spicy kick. In addition to the lovely food, the staff were incredibly helpful - they managed to get a table sorted and food served within the hour so we could make our broadway show. Great service.

Tricky Tribeca Eatery

So here's the thing. I really like the location and decor. When I step inside, it feels like the noise of NYC melts away. There are plants and plant life on display and even the herbs on the bar look like they danced out of a photo. This is an awesome spot for after-work drinks and the happy hour specials are usually pretty good. They have an extensive wine collection but I can't promise that you will love the mixed drinks. Now for the not so good stuff. First, I really wish they would get more comfortable chairs for the bar area. The whole wooden seat on wrought iron is just a little too sparse and rustic for my taste. Lastly, absent the pizzas--the menu items aren't spectacular. If you want a great glass of wine--definitely stop by.

Fantastic Bolognese

Extraordinary Bolognese! Certainly one of the best Italian restaurants in the neighborhood and Lower Manhattan. The bar and the ambiente do the rest.

Italian as we like it !

We were walking around TriBeCa looking for a place to eat ... after a nice walk looking at restaurants without much enthusiasm ... We found this nice restaurant, very nice and real Italian food in a refreshing modern style... I recommend it to anyone living or traveling in New York ...
