The Grant Grill has many offerings of things to eat and the service is superb! We had breakfast there on our last trip and they had simple yogurt with granola as well as full egg dishes with various sides. It's been a while since we ate dinner there, but we were there to celebrate a birthday and the fare did not disappoint!

We had both breakfast and dinner at this upscale restaurant. The meals were delicious and the food was plentiful. As might be expected in an upscale hotel, the prices were high.

last night on a 13 day California trip, stayed a US Grant hotel and thought our last meal at Us Grant grill would be great. it wasn't, and we were so disappointed,,here is why : first our server with the name of "Beatrice" gave horrible service.. she forgot about us many times, and we had to chase her down to get any service. after ordering the ribeye and tenderloin bison, when Beatrice finally asked us how was our meal, we explained that the meat had absolutely NO taste and we requested salt and pepper, Beatrice just answered "ok" and walked away. we couldn't eat both steaks and left everything on the plate, but decided just to pay and go elsewhere for dessert and drinks. they charge $52 per dish, same rates as a Capitol grille or other steak houses and the quality is very low compared to other steakhouses. unfortunately we will not return for dinner any time soon. also the lights in the restaurant were too bright and did not feel like a upscale restaurant,

We stayed at the hotel that is attached to this establishment. They have an amazing cocktail list and great service. We didn't dine here but the food looked amazing. It is close to the Opera. Definitely recommend to have an evening drink prior to dinner. The US Grant centennial manhattan was very good.

We ate at the Grant Grill on our first night in San Diego. We arrived late after driving down from LA. We were staying in the hotel and we were hungry so we took the easy option and we are very glad we did. Sergei looked after us very well and gave very sound recommendations. His ability to describe not just the meal but the tastes and flavor blends made it easy to select a meal and he was bang on with every description.

The Wait staff was kind, friendly, helpful, aware, and so responsive. The chef was considerate. I honestly haven't had a better Hotel Dining experience. I had such a fantastic experience. The Serve a bread that was the chef's mothers recipe. Such a lovely touch.

Old "Men's club" until 1970 in historic Grant Hotel. Very calm and quiet. good service. Had specialty - Mock turtle soup, one with the salmon BLT and once with Crab cakes, all very good. A little higher priced than local places or fast food, but convenient, pleasant, and good size portions.

We ate here several times during our stay and the food was exceptional on every occasion. The servers are just wonderful - so friendly, polite and very efficient.

Despite making my almond allergy known to our server multiple times (he submitted it to the kitchen), almonds were present in the lemon galette that I ate for dessert. Our expensive New Year’s Eve dinner was completely ruined when I unexpectedly began to experience an allergic reaction as my tongue tingled and throat swelled. What’s especially shocking about this ordeal is that the manager only offered me a different desert in place of the cake that could have easily sent me into anaphylaxis and then proceeded to charge us for the entire meal: a fine example of adding insult to injury. Would not recommend to anyone, in particular those with food allergies, as the restaurant does not seem to take precautions to prevent contaminating your food, even when you make it clear you have serious allergies.

We always get breakfast here at least once during our stays, it's an absolute must. The service is top-notch and truly white-glove. I recommend the creative french toast innovations they always seem to be rotating.

I don't normally associate a hotel dining room with fine dining, but the Grant Grill is exceptional. We spent five nights at the hotel, and this was our best dining experience. The Piedmontese Beef Tenderloin was excellent. I also enjoyed the Pan Roasted Colorado Lamb Loin. Breakfast was also excellent. The Grant Breakfast is a good way to start your day. The potatoes with breakfast were wonderful. Service was excellent. This place was busy Friday and Saturday night.

We went in family to this place and could not be better. Great selection of wines, good and variety food and very very good attention of the people. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic, delicious dining. Always something interesting, along with standards. Good price! I've had some of the best meals in San Diego in a nice atmosphere. I make it a point to dine here at least once. Always something interesting - and delicious - on the menu! (As a person with a life long distaste (disgust) for beets, I was once talked into the "beet soup" by the waiter, who also admitted he didn't particularly care for beets, either, but "you gotta try this..." He was right! I was amazed. It was delicious. My wife couldn't believe I ordered "beet soup." This is the kind of restaurant this is. Always something interesting and delicious.)

Arrived at 1830 but no host/hostess was on duty. One eventually showed up 5 minutes later. Was seated in dining room which contained only six other guests. The waiter forgot my first course and arrived with a steak which was mostly gristle and completely inedible. I stopped after three bites. I paid the bill and wanted to speak to the manager about the incompetent service and poor quality of the food but the manager was nowhere to be found. If the restaurant can't get a simple order right with only six guests one can't imagine anyone will be happy on a busy night. I would be embarrassed to open my doors at all if this were my establishment. Somehow I don't think the current proprietor shares any such reservations.

Hard to not have breakfast here when you're staying at the hotel and that's a good thing. Professional service, tasty food and a quiet place to start the day.

Stayed for two nights in the hotel and the breakfasts were amazing, the eggs Benedict ( without the croissant) were fab. Drinks at night were good and good music at night too. Staff were attentive and friendly, but very professional, which added to the atmosphere. The grill looks old and atmospheric which adds to the feel

The Grant Grill is located in the heart of downtown San Diego in the venerablle Grant Hotel on Broadway. The hotel lobby alone is worth a visit with it's chandelers, dark wood, artwork and marble. The restaurant is at street level, also in a Chicago steak house style setting with starched white linen table cloths and privacy for every table.. The sizable bar with live music featured the big screen game of the evening......in a low key way. Service is exceptional. Easy going. Knowledgable. Our waitress made recommendations when asked, and knew the entire cooking processes and chef's forte.... the servers and the bus boys were spot on. The management expects dinerst to take their time, leisurely enjoy the dining. We started with the fois and could have ended it right there. It was done perfectly with pisctachio crunchy granola and strawberry vinager drizzle on the side. and that's that. I enjoyed the korean braised veal shank complete with roasted bone marrow; the asian pears was a perfect accompaniment for the beautifully cooked (long time) veal. My wife went for the coriander crusted lamb, again cooked perfectly medium rare. Both dishes were PLENTIFUL. Both dishes were excellent. The warm herb bread served for the dinner is a taste treat. The menu runs from fish to chops depending upon the season. San Diego is a city of many fine restaurants. We'd place the Grant Grill at or near the top. There's valet parking at the hotel reception area, and plentiful evening parking at lots nearby. The dinner menu, though extraordinary and a culinary delight is priced very reasonably considering the level of the cooking and service.

My best friend and I loved every minute of my birthday dinner at The Grant Grill. From the moment that we made our reservation until dessert we were treated like royalty. We had such an amazing time, thanks to Sergio & Natalie. They are the epitome of customer service and efficiency. We will be back!

We did not stay here but we did come for breakfast. Not a birthday, not our anniversary but the site of my parent's wedding reception in August 1945! It's a long story but suffice it to say that this was a very special and emotional breakfast! We celebrated with mimosas and then ordered our breakfast. My husband had The Grant Breakfast and side of pancakes (which is one large pancake) and breakfast potatoes. I had the Fried Egg Sandwich which also came with potatoes. Fantastic and the potatoes were, without a doubt, the best I have ever tasted. Thank goodness I live across the country or I would find a reason to eat this breakfast every day! We were served by Mick and Saul also stopped by our table several times to make sure we were fine. Mick was friendly and very professional. I could tell by the way he spoke with another gentleman (a regular) and us. He was top-notch and we liked him very much. This restaurant is outstanding. You will have a delicious and memorable breakfast. It is all very lovely. Cheers to my parents - they had good taste!

The charm & hospitality shown to us by Umberto & Corey in the Grant Grill is world class. The restaurant & lounge, staffed by the best that hospitality has to offer, delighted our pallets in chambers set with cosmopolitan ambiance & subdued with an easy vibe. We ate here twice during our stay. We enjoyed the bar menu, craft drinks, and live entertainment in-house at the Grant Grill Lounge after our 10 PM check-in at the U.S. Grant on Friday night of Halloween weekend. We returned again on Sunday before going to a show at the Lyceum Theater across the street, this time for early dinner reservations at the restaurant where we feel we were treated especially well and I can't thank them enough for a wonderful fine dining experience. My highest recommendation.

We never had a chance to sit down! We stayed the nite at the US Grant Hotel before going to the theater, and that day we decided to go down to the Grant Grill for lunch before the play began. The restaurant is beautiful, and has two Hostesses greeting the patrons. When we went the place was not empty, but it was close. The Hostess told us that it would be a "few minutes" to get our table ready. No problem. So we waited. Just me, my husband, and these two Hostesses.... I kid you not, 15 minutes later, still waiting on our table to get ready, I looked at my husband and said, "is this for real???" It was strange and it was silly. We are the only two people waiting for a table in this almost empty restaurant. We ran out of time, and had to tell the Hostess we were going to bow out because we had to get going over to the theater. She looked genuinely shocked that we were leaving... Perhaps we were completely missing something, but it was a disappointing ending to our stay at the Grant. The Hostess gave no explanations, it was just the most awkward and odd attempt to eat a a restaurant that is typically very, very good.

Grants service is dependable attentive & helpful w/o being pretentious. Good wine suggestions for red & white preferences. The Beef Carpaccio, Octopus & Salad starters were beautifully presented oh & cant forget the brioche bread. Oh & great vegan amuse bouchée The main course of lobster & beef were delicious. No room for desert but the Italian wedding cookies were also delightful. A wonderful & reliable dining experience that consistently changes up the menu & makes a great pre-Civic, Balboa or Lyceum theatre experience w/ short downtown walks.

You can’t beat the ambience of the Grant Grill. Old-time luxury with a beautiful and comfortable decor. This is quickly shattered by the ridiculously poor service. Had to wait to be served over 20 min. Finally served and then had to wait another 30 minutes for the waitress to return. The entire night was spent waiting on the server. It never got any better either. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy. Should have sat at the bar and would have probably had amazing service. The waitresses just aren’t trained properly. Had to send food back because it was undercooked and of course we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for the food to return. Live entertainment is a nice touch. If service was better, we would have rated this at least 4 stars if not 5. Staying in the US Grant hotel made the poor service tolerable, but management really needs to watch what’s happening with each table. We were not the only ones experiencing poor service.

Great food, drinks, entertainment and atmosphere. There is live music Thursday - Saturday nights. Great waitresses.

We arrived in San Diego Airport around 7pm and decided to eat at our Hotel the US Grant at the Grant Grill. All the staff we attentive , proffesional and happy. We were treated to great food, a good start to our trip.

The restaurant consists of a few tables which appear like an addendum to the bar. This does not really give a great atmosphere of fine dining. The service was reasonably good but somewhat slow. The food was good, but far from excellent, as would be expected from the price level.

We had a party of 9 (4 adults, 1 teen, 2 pre-teens, and 2 little ones). We were seated at 2 round tables to accommodate our party. We decided to order the breakfast buffet because it was almost the same price as ordering a regular meal and they extended the hours of the buffet due to the holiday. The buffet did not offer any cook to order items. It offered scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, bacon, Grant potatoes (yummy!!), yogurt, fruit, and pastries. It was a good start for our day but nothing that stood out that would make us eat there every morning. Service was their downfall for sure. Our server (bless her heart) was new so we had to keep asking her for items over and over. (Ketchup, salt and pepper, water, espresso, apple juice, etc) She explained that she was new and was having trouble locating the items we were asking for. I feel she should have had some support for her, but it looked as if they had limited staff. Our bill was also incorrect when they brought it to the table. We had 2 families and asked for the check to be split due to Marriott statuses and free offerings at check in. It took a while to get worked out (still incorrect but not worth the hassle)

Was best meal I enjoyed over 5 day San Diego visit. Large party was accommodated in wood paneled private room, Superb steaks and Game choices, Huge wine list with many choices in the $50-100 price. Maitre di &Servers were informative and attentive.

I picked up 2 orders of their cheese and meat plates and a Cobb salad. I ordered 20 minutes or so before driving to the Grant Grill. I have been at this restaurant many times and normally everything is fine. I found parking (meter) close by and only put enough money to stay for 15 minutes since I had already ordered. Unfortunately when I told the hostess about my order, I was told by the bartender that my order was not placed but that the food I ordered would be made quickly. I was not annoyed, just concerned that I would get a parking ticket. The order was accurate and the bartender who is very professional and friendly, first name starts with an "M" gave me a discount. When I got home, my husband and I had a delicious meal. Would I go back? Yes...even though their menu is expensive, the food is normally good. I rated the Grant Grill as average only because I had to wait and was stressed about a possible ticket.

I explored the food of San Diego and this was the best. Creative, carefully detailed dishes, all delicious. Lovely attentive service and a nice ambience for a hotel restaurant that maintains an intimate feeling. The chef's persimmon (yes persimmon) soup is an award winner. Beef cheek with Stilton tart is a great combo. Lobster is carefully prepared and thank goodness out of the shell in a light butter bisque sauce. Nice selection of wines. I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion, business dinner or important date.

My wife and just went to Grant Grill for the first time. We will definitely be back. Our server Beatrice was fantastic. Her picture should be next to the word service in the dictionary. The old fashions we had were excellent. My wife had the veal chop and I had the pork chop and shared a side of mashed potatoes. Both were great. Sunday evening was a perfect time for dinner as the place was fairly quiet. Superb! The one drawback about this visit is the "fee" charged to have dinner - valet parking, $10. This is far too common with restaurants in San Diego and a pet peeve. Our server added a sticker to our valet ticket to validate the parking. It wasn’t a full validation but was intended to reduce the valet charge. We still ended up paying paid full price because we didn't stay 3 hrs. Hence, 4 stars versus 5. Recommend either street parking (good luck with that) or take the trolley.

This is one of the most fussy, yuppie, overpriced restaurants I've ever eaten at. The ambience is lovely and the tables are private and quiet. I'm sure the glitterati and political elite of San Diego eat here on expense accounts regularly, but if you are looking for just some great food at a good value, this is not your place. My husband and I were staying at the US Grant and wanted a close place to meet our daughter who lives in the city. Our bill for 3 came to $175 with tax and tip. Probably typical in downtown S.D., the wine was $18 a glass. My husband ordered their table-side-mixed Negroni, at $18, which was an overly fussy drink, overpowered by the fresh rosemary in it. They raved that it won a big award for mixed drinks. My husband couldn't finish it. Our meals were tasty, but portions are very small and placed on big plates to look like an art show with drizzles of sauces, etc. My husband and I split a sea bass entree and the portions were smaller than appetizers. They charge $4 for the warm bread, which was delicious, but I don't remember the waitress asking us if we wanted bread for $4. The carrot cake also looked over the top but, frankly, not as good as my own. The best part of the meal was the mock turtle soup which was essentially beef stew. I wish I had just ordered that for $12 for a small bowl, the bread and nothing else. The waitress and service was excellent but this is a restaurant for a certain group of people, of which I am not one.

Had the Grant breakfast ($21 with juice and coffee) a couple of times. Pretty tasty. Great service. The potatoes were a highlight. $21 is a bit steep for bacon, eggs, toast, potatoes, juice, and coffee --- but it was a fun experience.

We had breakfast there twice and they were able to handle 25 of us on short notice. Good food, excellent service at a price you would expect at nice hotel.

I was in San Diego with my wife, for her to attend several business meetings in June. Many of those included business dinners, so I was solo for several nights. I had wanted to stay at the US Grant Hotel, but since the meetings were at the Marriott Marquis, on the harbor, I decided to explore the US Grant, and discovered the Grant Grill. It looked interesting enough, that I switched one of my free nights, just to dine there. First, the US Grant, and the Grant Grill are lovely, and historic. One feels that they have stepped back in time, to a previous era – an era of stately, lovely hotels. I felt that I should have arrived by train, with a few steamer trunks, and was planning to stay for the Winter. The décor is opulent, and refined, and belies the history of this hotel. The theme is carried over to the Grant Grill, and it’s separate bar area. I was quickly seated, and I started off with the Möet et Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne, while looking over the menu. I chose: Grant Grill’s “Legendary Mock Turtle Soup” w/ braised short-rib and dry Sherry – now I am a fan of “real” turtle soup, and have enjoyed it by some of the finest chefs in New Orleans, and while this “mock turtle soup” was a departure for me, it was great! Seared Hokkaido Scallops w/ roasted kabocha squash, chestnuts, ginger, nashi peas and sea beans – since my wife has a bi-valve allergy, I usually only order Scallops, when dining alone. These were succulent, and beautifully cooked, with an intriguing preparation. While I would always rather dine with my wife, if solo in San Diego again, I know where I am headed, and what Main Course I will be going with. I kept to the B-T-G wine list, especially as I was solo, and also having to walk back to the Marriott, so went with the Cape Mentelle Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc (especially after having spent a few weeks recently in the South Australian wine country), the Matchbook Dunnigan Hills Chardonnay, and then the J. C. Boisset Pinot Noir (have now done two tastings at the J. C. Boisset Wine Room in the Ritz Carlton San Francisco. I returned later in our trip, to have wines at the Grant Grill Bar. The room is, as is the entire hotel, elegant. The table spacing is ideal, and the lighting sublime. The service was befitting the venue, and the pacing was perfect. Other than being solo (but I DID get to have the Scallops), it was otherwise perfect. I will be back, and will even forego the Scallops, if my wife can join me.

San Diego is full of many dining choices and we experienced quite a few here on our trip. Never a fan of hotel restaurants in general we had our first dinner here out of pure exhaustion after a long day. It was incredible in every way. Second night we wanted to try some other items and were offered the dining menu as well as bar menu which are quite different. There is nothing the staff won't do to accomodate any request. But the final night here in San Diego we went downstairs and by pure luck ran into the first night of their Wagyu Menu. It's was a set menu which again I never partake in but after last night may have to take never out of my vocabulary. From start to end, each component was perfectly prepared and in tangent with the main showcase Wagyu imported from Japan of the highest score. Prior to the meal commencing Natalie who had taken care of us the precious night ran through the Menu and all the components which helped us decided to give it a try. Mark the Chef then came out with our cuts of beef and explained how they intended to cook, the history and was very happy to talk in general on food and more. We also received certificates of authenticity from Japan showing the entire linage and history of our steak to our plate. If you are in the area this week you can't miss this special. Any other time then come and experience the Grant Grill inside the US Grant Hotel in San Diego. It's beyond special from morning to late at night. My first morning. Ack after a brief 2 nigh stay over a month ago I was welcomed by Michael with a good morning Ralph, remembering my name and coffee order. It's was like being at home. Thank you all the staff and team front and back of the fine dining establishment. We will be back

We dined here w/8:30pm reservations on a Friday night. The wait staff was so considerate of our dietary restrictions (vegetarian for one of us/gluten free for both of us) and provided impeccable service from drinks to the end of our meal! The food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. We loved the live music & singer that provided the perfect background for evening. Grant Grill is one of the best hotel restaurants in which we've dined in years! Highly recommend!

We stayed at the US Grant Hotel for business conference this week. The Grant Grill was a great spot for late night snacks and cocktails with colleagues. If you are into martinis, make sure you ask for the blue cheese stuffed olives...

We ate dinner here before seeing Lauryn Hill perform at Jacobs Music Center. Dinner was perfect from start to finish. My husband was thrilled with his Old Fashioned cocktail. Our salads, fish and duck dishes were beautiful. Our son eschewed the kids menu for the oysters and spot prawn dishes - loved it all. The manager came by to compliment our son (he's 10) on his blazer and sophisticated palette, which made our son's night. Will be back next time we are in San Diego!

You have to try the Manhattan a namesake cocktail for the hotel. We shared a big ribeye from grill menu and fries from the bar menu. The food was excellent .

It took 15 minutes for our waiter to come by after we were seated, and I had to go ask the hostess where our waiter was. The food was also not very good, especially for the price. The bread was my favorite part of the meal.

Food is excellent. Restaurant is near theatre. Menu is limited and on the pricey side. Be careful about valet parking. Supposedly if you are having dinner and want to walk a block to the theater it is only ten dollars. When I called for my car, the price doubled.

We spent the night at the hotel as we were there for a birthday party and we breakfasted at the Grill. The Grill is quite dark - not what you want in the morning, but the booths are spacious and comfortable. I had a most delicious egg white omelet with asparagus, kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, morel mushrooms and goat cheese served with avocado toast. Also had fresh grapefruit juice. My husband’s breakfast was more run of the mill, but he enjoyed it. Service was good. Coffee was fair.

My husband and I are staying at the US Grant and decided to eat dinner at the hotel on our first night in San Diego. We were certainly not disappointed. Staff is extremely friendly and competent. Tom in the cocktail lounge is a delight and very helpful. Dinners began with foie gras and beef carpaccio. The foie gras was just OK. The beef carpaccio was wonderful, with an added surprise of popcorn, that added an unexpected crunch and wonderful flavor to the dish. Our entrees were standouts. My husband's lamb dish consisted of both a small rack and osso bucco - he raved about it. My scallops were quite good, with sides of beets and kale. The only downside: the menu stated there was a lemon curd sauce, which is typically sweet. I don't care for sweetness with my savory dishes, so I asked the server if the curd was sweet. He said no, it was tart. Not true - it was way too sweet for my taste. That said, the scallops were perfectly prepared and delicious. The next day, we had lunch at the hotel. Again, there was wonderful service and a unique selection of items. I ordered a grilled romaine salad that was spectacular. While it was supposed to come with steak, I ordered it without the meat and was graciously accommodated. It was smoky and perfectly dressed with an egg/caper/herb vinagrette, with hearts of palm and a poached egg lightly encrusted. One of the best salads I have ever had. This restaurant is definitely worth the price. Creativity and attention to customers seem to be their hallmark.

Great spot for a yummy cocktail and appetizer. Lots of comfy seating and it wasn't crowded so we could hear each other and really relax. Service was a little confused. We kept getting asked to go to our table, but we weren't eating there!

Last weekend we had lunch at the Grant Grill. The ambience is lovely and inviting. The service impeccable - attentive and warm. The food was great starting with a very dramatic bread plate with standing flat bread and a variety of regular breads. The signature mock turtle soup was served in an actual 1 cup copper measuring cup. It was delicious. I had a very elegant and well presented Cobb Salad. My husband had a hot pastrami with house made chips. He substituted chibatta for the bread. He said it was hands down the best hot pastrami he had ever had. The lunch vibe on a Friday afternoon was comfortable and relaxed. We would definitely recommend the Grant Grill for lunch. In fact, we decided to have dinner there that night. See a separate review.

We stayed at the hotel for a night and decided to get a night cap at the bar. While the bartendress was lovely and talented, the live music was inescapable. We had two rounds and were grateful that the musicians closed up shop after we were there for 30 minutes. The remainder of our time was markedly better.

The restaurants around the area are all tourist traps. just eat the the Grant Grill the food was amazing

The meal begins with a delicious homemade bread served in a round baking dish. The wait staff is very personable and helpful, make you feel so much at home. The menu is full of wonderful dishes, from prime steaks to delectable giant scallops. While this is not a place for pinching pennies, the experience is well worth the price. The pastry chef can do wonderful things for a special occasion. Just marvelous food. .

Certainly in the Top 3 of restaurants in downtownSan Diego for fine dining if not the best. Terrific atmosphere for a sophisticated ambience. Go on Friday and Saturday nights for live music…piano and trumpet the night we were there plus some occasional vocals. The lamb and scallops were both excellent for our entrees. Highly recommend both!

We came for a family celebration. Place was beautiful and we got a nice round table, which is rare anymore, and was a pleasant surprise. But that was about it for the food news. We found the menu did not tempt us, so almost all of us got the filet. There were two sea bass dishes on the menu, that one was called Seabass, and the other was called "loup de mer" (french for seabass)... that was confusing ... Our steaks were a nice cut off meat, but quite forgettable. No seasoning. It was served on a teaspoon of celery root puree, with a few leaves of Brussels sprouts, and some wild mushrooms that really tasted odd. We all love mushrooms, but none of us enjoyed these. There were also some dots of some sweet dark sauce on the plate. Again, the meat was very tender and cooked well, just not worth anywhere near the price. Overall, a disappointing dining experience. Coffee was very good, though ... maybe a good place for breakfast, if they are open that early. .. :)

Dinner was good but uninspiring for the price. Dining room empty at 9 pm but the bar area a little more lively with a live band. Atmosphere and comfortable booths are a plus and service was attentive and knowledgeable.

we had dinner over here in August 2017, the food tastes delicious, but a little pricy though. services were great!

Dinner at the grill was excellent. The signature mod turtle soup was full of flavor and should not be missed, they have been making it for 100 years. Service was flawless. We listened to jazz in the grill after dinner. Wonderful relaxing ambiance. We will be back.

For a truly special dining experience, an evening at the Grant Grill is not to be missed.. Plan on spending the evening and splurge. You don't have to stay at the Grant, although we did. The atmosphere away from the bar is classic, warm and relaxing. The custom-designed drink we shared by Cory Alberto had a gin base with a bit of absinthe and such a variety of perfectly blended flavors I can't remember them all -- brought out in an Erlenmyer flask bubbling over dry ice and poured over aromatic flowers. Unique. Natalie is also unique. She is one of the most personable and knowledgable servers you will ever experience. Her personal attentiveness was perfectly spaced and we never felt either rushed or neglected. The atmosphere and Natalie's enthusiasm and insights to the food and preparation no doubt contributed hugely to the success of the evening. We started with Butter leaf lettuce salad with strawberries and rhubarb, and the Kumamoto oysters. The lamb was perfectly cooked to order and delightfully flavored. The local sea bass was flavorful over a bed of spinach , artichokes and arugula pesto. Though tempted by the sides, we passed --and a good thing too . We were stuffed and wanted to save room for dessert. The recommended Spanish wine, Numanthia "Termes" Tempranillo, was a perfect fit, and this may become one of our new favorites. The dessert was shared pots du creme and became a perfect punctuation to a perfect evening. Save your pennies ---you will need them! But definitely one of the overall top fine dining experiences we have had over many years including the Blue Strawberry, the Inn at Little Washington, and Chez Pannisse, among others!

The US Grant Hotel, in the heart of downtown San Diego, you can find a great restaurant. They serve excelent dishes, and the cocktail bar is great too.

We were looking for a nice place to have a classic cocktail before the show at Balboa Theatre. The Grant Grill inside the luxurious Historic US Grant Hotel couldn’t be much closer or convenient. We cozied up to the bar Which has a nice selection of high end spirts featuring their Centennial Manhattan by High West distillery. Our bartender entertained us with the story about the partnership between the Hotel and High West. Must admit the creation is top notch, enjoy one before or after the show at the Balboa.

A sophisticated and elegant, yet incredibly accessible, culinary experience. As starters we had the signature Mock Turtle Soup and the delicate Avocado Citrus Salad. For entrees, we had the Ribeye and the Tuna au Poivre and split a side order of Roasted Romanesco (like a cross between broccoli and cauliflower). Everything was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared with portion sizes that were trim but not pretentiously small. Dessert was the semi-freddo and the blackberry cobbler -- fantastic!! A nice bottle of Margaux and some tawny port to round it out. Overall, fantastic food and service from Josh, Alissa, Rex and Chef Mark. Well done!!

I was staying nearby at the Westin, and decided to dine here. Not very crowded. I liked the classic look and design of the restaurant. The service was very good.

This is a beautiful spot in the Gaslamp district. Incredible ambiance and worth it just for that. But their mock turtle soup is the real draw -- it is a must!

Perhaps this was just a bad experience... Bad luck... Food and atmosphere were excellent. Unfortunately the server was not helpful in helping us male choice: all he would say is people order this or that. Service was hovering : filling glasses of water constantly as soon as someone had two sips, ready to take plates off as soon as someone put their utensils down even though not all were finished, and they even put place serting for the bext cover while someone at table was in the middle of their plate, reaching over and impairing her to eat. The server was loud and kepr interrupting our conversation instead of waiting to do his job. It felt more like he was serving in a sports bar than at a dressed up restaurant. Otherwise everything was excellent, so it is a real shame... Or real bad luck...

In my party of four, one had the seared scallops which he claimed was the best he had ever eaten in a long history of eating at fine dining. Two, including me, had the sea bass which was overlooked and too salty combined with a weird vegetable concoction that was reminiscent of a Hawaiian dish which is slightly sweet and made with coconut milk. While tasting similar, I don't know if our vegetable dish was made in a similar way, but in any event, it was not a successful preparation. One declared the entire dish inedible while I thought it was OK but very disappointing. The fourth had the vegetarian dish-- abalone mushrooms with a ratatouille-style preparation, and declared it to be delicious. So two winners and two losers. Service by the wait staff was attentive and excellent. The jazz ensemble which started to play halfway through dinner was also excellent but too loud for a fine dining dinner. I don't plan to go back.

We had lunch before heading to the opera next door. Food was excellent. Staff were very nice, and service was very efficient.

We stopped here after dinner and were delighted. A creative cocktail menu and many very top shelf individual choices made for an interesting evening exploring the bar menu. Also had a nice flatbread and a wonderful carrot cake. A jazz quartet and really friendly, knowledgeable servers rounded out a great night.

Very nice upscale restaurant, the ambiance is superb, excellent service and food is simply delicious.

My husband, sister in law and I went downtown for a concert. We decided to try the Grant Grill. We valet parked at the hotel...flat rate of $17. As we crossed the lobby, there was a small lobby bar set up...live music and great people watching. Our table at the restaurant was ready right on time. The staff were all exceptional. From the valet, to the hostess to the servers...it was just friendly, helpful great service. Our water glasses were never empty. This is a very "foodie" fine dining restaurant. It started with an amuse bouche from the chef. I had the lamb, both my husband and sister in law had fish entrees. We also had wine and salads. We all loved everything. It was fresh, seasonal and delicious. No dessert or coffee because we had to scoot to our show. As we left, a live jazz group was playing in the front part of the restaurant. We could have just stayed here and enjoyed the music. The valet helped us with Uber...we returned a few hours later for our car. It was just a great evening. We will do this again.

I consider the Grant Grill to be one of the best restaurants in San Diego, but it never seems busy and I don't hear about it. I tried it when my wife and I were spending a romantic night out at the hotel (also great) and were amazed at the innovative approach and quality of the food, starting with the amazing focaccia bread all the way through desert. Service is first class, and it is a beautiful room. Definitely worth a try.

Second time there and everything was amazing! Octopus was tender and flavorful, they did not have sweetbreads so the waiter recommended the ricotta gnocchi -- they were light and airy in a rich garlic-mushroom sauce. Chilean seabass was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious, the veal loin & lobster was perfection in a flavorful sauce with chantrelle mushrooms and a thick pistachio spread that was spectacular with the veal! Service and atmosphere are outstanding -- every detail from the beautiful woodwork and linens to the wait staff who are super-attentive and make sure you are completely thrilled with everything make this restaurant perfect for anyone looking for an upscale classy dinner.

My husband and I started every morning with breakfast and ended every evening in the lounge each night of our stay at the US Grant Hotel. Breakfast each morning was excellent. The presentation of the food was beautiful. The menu options were unique. Even the traditional dishes were tweaked just to give it their own Grant Grill touch. Every food item was perfectly seasoned which led to everything tasting amazing. My favorite was the Salmon BLT for brunch and the fried egg sandwich for breakfast. Each morning I also enjoyed a vanilla latte with almond milk complete with a rock candy swizzle Stick. Our waiters Michael, Mick and Pablo all did an amazing job remembering us and our beverages of choice each day. The Hostesses were also excellent. They remembered us and greeted us by name. Rahma went above and beyond by getting information on boutiques based on a conversation as she showed us to our table. The drinks in bar were hand crafted by a true mixologist. Chrissy, my favorite bartender and Catherine my favorite server ensured my Bees Knees and my husband’s vodka martini were made perfectly each time. I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our experience. Thanks to the staff for providing an excellent experience.

Absolutely first class. Everything was wonderful- the food, the service and the general ambience. We had a most wonderful experience and found it charming that the chef took the time to speak to customers about their dining experience. Would definitely recommend

San Diego has many great eateries, catering to every taste. If you like to dine really high-end, with impeccable service, attentive wait-staff, and a good wine-list, I would highly recommend the Grant Grill. My wife started out with a seafood chowder, which was creamy and very fresh. I had the mock turtle soup, a recipe that has not changed for 50 years (and please don't ever think of doing so!). The entree for her were the scallops, which were fantastic, as evidenced by her unwillingness to share. This actually worked out fine, since I chose the swordfish on a bed of Chorizo risotto, which was a surprising, but delectable combination. We concluded the evening with a shared (finally) white chocolate panacotta, partly because there was no more room for any food, since we had partaken heartily in the freshly baked foccacia bread. The price was at the high end, but definitely justified for a dining experience of this quality. One small recommendation, ask to be seated at the street side, so not to get the TV over the bar.

If you are enjoying downtown San Diego, CA stop by the US Grant Hotel. Their restaraunt Grant's Grill is top notch! The food is great and the service is excellent. Great for an anniversary.

By far, one of the best restaurants I have eaten in. Service was over the top, maitre 'd very personable and had interesting stories about the hotel and grill. Well paced between courses and very good pours on the cocktails and wine. Octopus appetizer extremely tender and all meals, steak, veal chop, scallops were delicious.

The chef prepared a special menu for Valentine's Day and the quality of food, preparation and service were incredible. The 5 course meal was very thoughtfully crafted and it showed. As good as any 2 Michelin Star restaurant in Europe. The restaurant is very elegant and the jazz music was perfect. Thanks again for a great night!

Exquisite! The setting, food and especially service are top-notch. Special dietary requests are handled flexibly and capably. This is an old-school establishment with high ceilings, ornate-wood decor, tablecloths and quality cutlery. Dishes are traditional yet prepared with visual and gustatory flair. All in all, a fine-dining experience – one worth savoring and remembering.

This is a very nice place to have drinks and watch television. My husband and I had drinks and simply relaxed for about 90 minutes. Expensive yes..but worth it..I highly recommend this bar..Service is great and they serve interesting cocktails.

We enjoyed our best breakfast of the decade at the Grant Grill. My father used to bring me and my siblings here in the sixties and this place has been through a few transformations since then. It has somehow settled into perfection. Our experience was sophisticated but not stuffy. The food was perfect, old school and updated offerings. I loved the avocado Benedict, but the potatoes were too much. My husband ate and loved them. SaId they were the best breakfast potatoes he ever had. The service was top notch. I enjoyed the business atmosphere mixed with tourists. Fabulous food, wonderful service, and some great nostalgia. Highly recommend this place.

I had a light lunch at Grant Grill - the delicious soup of the day was a rich lobster chowder, and I had the petite greens salad. The salad was a meal in itself - the petite refers to "baby" greens rather than the portion. There were fancy radishes, fresh corn, and other goodies sprinkled throughout, with a tasty vinaigrette. I had a Latte and it came with "stick" sugar - brown sugar crystals on a stir stick. I don't usually sweeten my Latte but this was irresistible! Each staff member called me by name (Ms. L__) and the service was impeccable. A bonus was the Rabbitville figures in the lobby area - they are worth a stop-by if you are in that part of San Diego! After lunch, I was returning to a conference (where the dining areas were REALLY frantic and crowded) so I didn't linger at the bar - I would recommend stopping in here and taking some time for a leisurely drink and looking at the decorated Rabbits! A lovely oasis of calm in the heart of bustling San Diego.

Saturday night looking for a relaxing place for food , drinks and jazz. Rarely have we found all three convenient to our hotel. Our concierge recommended this lobby bar and we were not disappointed. There was a great 3 piece jazz band to rival any others we have experienced as well as good drinks ( not cheap) and food. Service was very good and the restaurant /bar is gorgeous9 old world look).Young rock and rollers stay home.

Even just a hamburger is special and the best you have had. Service is wonderful. Have eaten here many times over the years and this never disappoints.

Had $100 credit and had dinner. Food expensive, but not bad at all. Many great restaurants in area, but if you want to be lazy and are a hotel guest, not bad. I would not go there under ordinary circumstances. It was my birthday and they actually brought me a menu which said Happy Birthday on it. A nice touch. However, they did not even offer to buy me a dessert, which negated the nice touch of the menu. I was a hotel guest. Little niceties go a long way. The manager realized after we paid the bill that it was a birthday and offered us champagne, which was very kind. It was a bit after the fact.

Just like the rest of the US Grant Hotel, the food in the Grant Grill is top knotch quality. Each meal we had was fresh and delicous. The service was exceptional.

As a person who travels over a week a month on average, I've learned to be wary of many hotel restaurants. When I booked my stay at the US Grant, I wasn't sure what to expect. As a Luxury Collection Hotel, I know that most of their restaurants are quite pricey. Still, I had to check it out. First, I had a wonderful burger and homemade kettle chips from room service which comes from the Grant Grill. The burger was perfect, much better than one I had a few nights later down the block a bit at a restaurant specializing in burgers. And the dessert was a little bit of Heaven- peanut butter mousse with jelly beignets. Dear Lord, it was beyond! A couple of days later when my friend wanted to go out for breakfast, we decided to try the Grant Grill. It was almost 11am and we were staying in the hotel, so we decided to treat ourselves. And we did. My friend had coffee and a gorgeous fruit plate but I HAD to try something different. The peanut butter french toast was, in staying with the PB theme, beyond perfection. In fact, my only regret is that I could not finish it. I'm far from a foodie and very simple in my tastes. It took a lot of guts for me to NOT order eggs. Instead, I got the PB french toast that will forever remain one of my all-time favorite dishes. The Grant Grill is a very nice place, well-decorated, fancy, and yes, a bit pricey, but not overly so. Compared to the restaurants in the area (we ate out every night) it stood out with exceptional food and service, and prices pretty much on par with what you'll find in the neighborhood. Our 2nd visit to the grill was oddly, the same day. We had plans at the hotel that day and didn't want to stray far. So we had a late lunch right there. We'd enjoyed breakfast so much that we were happy to try lunch. Again, the service was wonderful. I loved that we weren't rushed, that we were allowed to sit and chat and enjoy our food. I had a pastrami sandwich with the delicious homemade kettle chips. I'm not even a big fan of pastrami, but it was so good that again, I hated leaving it. If we had had a microwave in our room, I would've been eating 24/7! I loved that they went out of their way twice to find yellow mustard for me, which is a big deal for a picky person. Both with the burger and the sandwich, I was presented with as much yellow mustard as I wanted. As a person who travels the world, I can tell you that it is one of my struggles when it comes to food. usually, if you're eating in a high end hotel, they won't have it. So something that detailed impressed me. Both my friend and I found the food delicious, the menu varied, and the service impeccable. Just as I loved the US Grant Hotel, I adored the Grant Grill. I highly recommend this restaurant not just for the delicious food and varied menu, but for the ambiance and the attentive and friendly service.

We had a large group for dinner which sometimes can be a tough challenge for the kitchen and staff but this place handled it with grace and ease. The food was fantastic as was the service. Highly recommend this place for the ambience as well as the service.

Popped in for brunch on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with some unique takes on classic items. Had a salad to start - crisp lettuce with sundried tomatoes, capers, and a refreshing dressing. Tuna melt served with homemade chips: tuna was the real thing with chunks of ahi on rye bread. the duck confit hash included tender pieces of meat with fingerling potatoes, artichokes and two eggs and ciabatta. Not inexpensive - but definitely high quality and worth the calories!

nice continental menu with a modern touch. great service in a cozy booth off the bar area, with decent wines by the glass offered, and a nice seasonal cocktail menu.

We came here for a rather late desert and were taken aback by the elegant surroundings and service. The presentation of the food was superb, the taste was understated, and the service was excellent.

Service was excellent, prices in keeping with the location and luxury brand. Food was good, we had brunch there as a family one time. The rest of the time we took advantage of a Starbucks kiosk in the park across the street for a more reasonably sized and priced breakfast sandwich.

I stayed here for 3 nights and got the breakfast included and a credit for dinner -Enjoyed my breakfast each day -Service was great and attentive -Food was fresh and well prepared Also came for dinner one night. Menu was upscale...service was good and the dinner was also good...would eat here again

The Grant Grill is an elegant, tasteful spot inside the US Grant Hotel. Breakfast, Lunch, Diner and evening small plates and dessert are served. Service is gracious with being pretentious. Food was farm to table, creative elegant and modern. Enjoyed our meal, would return.

Nice atmosphere and staff. We only ate some appetizers and drinks, both were good. They have a pre bottled Manhattan made by High West Distillery for the US Grant. It is excellent!

We enjoyed the food, it was tasty and prepared well. However, you are going to pay for that. A normal Breakfast for the 3 of us was over $100.

I can see by the previous reviews I will be one of the minority who rates them one on the lower side. We were going to be attending a matinee performance downtown and were limited in our restaurant selections due to the time of day. We decided to try Grant Grill and were on the tail end of the breakfast menu. That was okay, but somewhat disappointing. After being taken to our seats and being seated in a booth, we noticed that our booth had a seat with a rather large tear in the seat cushion at the very front which made it quite noticeable. Okay, no big deal. Then we had coffee poured. Prior to drinking mine I noticed the lipstick on the side of the cup. Since I am a male and was not wearing any I knew it was not mine. It took a little bit before I could get it changed but it was changed with no problem. Our meal was brought and was not too bad except my wife's toast was somewhat burnt and the breakfast potatoes that come with the egg dishes are rather unusual as they are a type of deep fried concoction that were unlike anything either of us had ever had before. However, maybe that was just our own personal taste and anyone else would find them acceptable. You might want to check before ordering though, just so you won't be unhappy. Based on all of this I have to say we were a bit disappointed at this experience. I'm not sure I will try them again.

I like hash with eggs on top, and a few fried potatoes.for breakfast. I often order same at better hotels. I ordered it here and got a bowl of vegetable soup with 2 fried eggs on top, and a portion of beef shank underneath. What's this, says I. Hash...that's how we do it here. Yikes!

I was craving a good breakfast and thought of the Grant Grill. They do not disappoint. Great service-our waiter Jose L. was attentive and always professional. He has been our waiter before and I really enjoy how well he takes care of his customers. My husband and I had 2 eggs, toast, Cochinita Pibil, 1 pineapple juice, and a Maple Manhattan...it was all very good. Price was a little under 45.00 without the tip. After, we went to their bar for a few cocktails...it is a nice relaxed atmosphere even though it is very elegant it is not a "stuffy" ambiance. I cannot wait to return to this beautiful restaurant. I have been fortunate to stay in their hotel many times. It is in the heart of downtown San Diego..lots of restaurants within walking distance. I would highly recommend this establishment.

I’ve reviewed this restaurant before, but only for breakfast and lunch, which are outstanding. This review is for the dinner service. One night while having a drink at the bar at the US Grant Hotel, the Chef de Bar, Cory Alberto, came over to us to say hello. We have stayed numerous times at the hotel and the staff has gotten to know us. Absolutely remarkable customer service…but that’s another story. Cory was touting the dinner menu at the Grant Grill, and we explained we were leaving the next day but may try it on our next visit. He was pretty convincing that there were a couple of items on the menu that weekend that were really particularly exceptional. So, we decided to book another night at the hotel, just to experience dinner at the restaurant! We booked a table for two at 7 the next evening. When we arrived, we were greeted by the host and wait staff and, of course Cory. We were seated in a booth in the back corner. Very cozy. Our waiter was quick to bring us the house focaccia which was delivered in a cast iron skillet. Great way to start our meal. The menu was extensive with a plethora of mouthwatering choices. We asked for recommendations and settled on several selections. But first, an amuse bouche sent out by the Chef. A fig wedge atop a goat cheese ice cream with balsamic pearls and a chilled grape. Wow. The perfect combination of flavors and textures. Next, a visit to our table by the Sous Chef. I had ordered the Wagyu steak and he brought it out on a silver platter prior to cooking so he could explain the cut, which was accompanied by a certificate/pedigree with detailed lineage of the beef and standards. How spectacular. As appetizers, we chose the Foie Gras Torchon and Kumamoto Oysters. The Foie Gras was served on a brioche with locally farmed apples. Superb. The Oysters were prepared three ways, with a ponzu granita, a sake mignonette, and a yuze gelee. A bright flight of distinctively different flavors. For our main courses, my husband chose the Thyme Roasted Sea Scallops - Meyer lemon curd, braised kale, and roasted beets. The scallops were enormous, yet cooked perfectly. The lemon curd was a surprise that complimented the scallops. What a take-away. Never seen this pairing before. And the piece de resistance, my Wagyu steak. It actually exceeded my then inflated expectations. The meat glistened on the plate and had an almost translucent quality. It actually melted in my mouth with a delicate creamy light beef flavor. I can honestly say it is the best Wagyu I’ve had in my life. I must add that the service throughout the evening was flawless. And it wasn’t just us, the staff treated every guest with the same exceptional care. We ended the meal with a selection of cheeses. It turns out that Cory is actually a cheese aficionada. The selection was superb, highlighted by a delightful Picone cheese from Spain that complimented the twenty-year old Port we had chosen to close the evening. I’ve reviewed hundreds of restaurants around the world and dined at the tables of many great chefs. The Grant Grill just made my top ten list. Enough said.

One of the finest dining experiences we have had in the last ten years. I want particularly to thank our server, Sergio, who was the consummate professional. At the beginning of the meal for our party of six he said, "The table is yours for the evening so take your time and enjoy yourselves." He was always attentive, never imposing, and provided simply outstanding service. One example: when is the last time that all entrees are served simultaneously to a large party? It happened for us at the Grant Grill. Now to the food: creatively presented, delicate in its flavor choices, and paired perfectly with the wine we had chosen, we loved the Scottish salmon, the ribeye steak, the sea bass, and the freshly-baked bread. The atmosphere is classy without being pompous, welcoming without being cloying. We look forward to another visit when we return to San Diego another time.

Stay at the Grant Hotel for a week. I had the pleasure to dine their for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although the menu is limited, what they do offer is excellent. The wine list is extensive. The staff is over the top in their service. I would like to give kudos to Josh, Jose, Samuel and Byanka just to name a few. I was wonderful to go to a restaurant where the staff were smiling and happy to do their job. Many of them were long time employees (over 15 years) which tells you something about management. My boss and I had the privilege to meet the executive chef, Mark. Mark spent some time talking to us. If you find yourself in San Diego, dine at the Grant Grill for any meal, you won't be disappointed.

We stopped in for a drink and the menu didn't really have any normal cocktails. They have something called a billionaire cocktail, then an option to share some cocktails. Everything on the menu was just ridiculously expensive. So instead we sat and listened to the live jazz music. It was a great environment and the staff are friendly.

The selection is not extensive, but the quality of food is quite good. The service at the entrance quite unprofessional, and the atmosphere was not cosy.

I had a lunch and dinner here on my last trip. The food was very good. My favorite would be the shrimp and scallop risotto, it was cooked to perfection. The ambiance is very comfortable. A little dark but it's themed with the hotel. It's really nice in the evening.

I recently had a business lunch at the iconic Grant Grill. Still delicious food, terrific service and one of the best places downtown for a lunch. Able to carry on a conversation easily and nicely updated.

Usually this is my go to restaurant before a show downtown. I highly recommend making a reservation, which unfortunately I forgot to do, but the hostess seated us at the bar and we expected to still get excellent service. When we sat down, the bartender told us they weren’t serving dinner at the bar as the kitchen was too busy, even though the people at the bar next to us were eating a lovely dinner. Unfortunately at that point we didn’t have time to go to another restaurant, and the hostess intervened to make sure we could get a food order in. Usually I expect really good service at the bar, but they were sort of agitated that we were even there. You would think that a bigger tip coming their way based on a food AND beverage order would be welcome, but not this time. Our meals were disappointing. My friend ordered the pork chop, and it was overcooked and dry. I had the Chilean sea bass. While flavorful, the portion size was poor and it was on a bed of grains with virtually no vegetables and I left wanting more as it simply was not enough food. See the picture attached showing a lot more plate than food, and for $42, I wasn’t too happy. I asked the bartender if there was a way to get some more vegetables as it was a pretty meager meal for the price. He handed me the menu and wanted me to order a side item for another $10, which I wasn’t about to do at that point. Not in a big rush to come back as the food and service was a total miss.

Quiet, wood-paneled, elegant, comfortable chairs and tables, easy for sipping and conversation. On an early Sunday evening, it was a home run for a pre-dinner martini. The service was prompt, friendly, but not over-bearing.

Just when I thought the Grant Grill couldn't further exceed expectations, it did. Chef de Cuisine, John Duran, has not only improved on traditional menu items, but he has introduced a new level of exciting, innovative dishes that are magnificently presented and perfectly prepared. Of particular note, his Spanish Octopus with sauce romesco, salsa verde, and chorizo brown butter is sensational. The Chef shared his secret of marinating the octopus in soda water prior to cooking! And the New Zealand Venison with Abuelita chocolate caramelle, pickled persimmon, and chestnut pistou is one of the best venison preparations I've ever been served. The surprise is the chocolate which encased in small pasta purses that add a pop of flavor that compliments the venison beautifully. Kudos also to the new beverage supervisor Rex Yuasa that has created exotic craft cocktails that are unique and delicious! Also, a call out to all of the management and staff including Beatrice, Alex and the rest of the team who provide flawless service!!! Can’t wait to go back.

Before seeing Gordon Lightfoot at Balboa theatre, we meet with friends for supper. Two order the daily soup of vegetable chowder. It’s a tomato base and luxuriant with beautiful chunks of vegetables. Delicious. We’ve e started with one of the most delicious breads I’ve ever eaten hot from the oven sprinkled with salt. Incredible. Our magaritas are extraordinary.i follow my soup with a beet salad that has oranges, walnuts, slabs of cheese, baby tomatoes. Quite wonderful. My husband has a boulibasse of shrimp and seafood, well priced and really ample for an appetizer. Mains are quite expensive at roughly $35 a dish. Our friends order gnocchi, salad and a cutlet. Everything is perfectly seasoned and beautifully cooked and prepared. An outstanding dinner.

We wanted to have a relaxing dining experience with our out of town guest before going to the theater. The food and wine choices, the quality, the presentation and the preparations were all excellent. The service was wonderful as well. It is important to note that this is a fine dining establishment in a luxury hotel. Therefore, the prices are in keeping with that type of venue. In that sense they provide good value.

My wife and had a wonderful dinner to celebrate our 25th anniversary. They also helped accomodate my gluten sensitivity and substituted gluten free bread before the meal.

Great room for fancy times. They have a ample selection OD tasty appetizers. Extensive wine list, many of which can be ordered by the glass. Nice respite from the downtown hustle.

We enjoyed an absolutely amazing Thanksgiving brunch at the US Grant hotel. It was all about high quality, top ingredients and some superb creativity. Lamb with black garlic, Venison and Turkey with Fois Gras stuffing were some of the standouts. Dessert table was adequate, restrained but of high caliber.... The service was exemplary... Very happy and thankful !

The Grant Grill is a hidden gem tucked away off the elegant lobby of The US Grant Hotel. From hearty breakfasts to delicious lunches to afternoon indulgences to elegant dinner to lively music and drinks, this dining spot has something for everyone. The service is impeccable, the food is cooked to order and delicious, and if you're lucky, the in-house master mixologist will craft a special cocktail for you.

Linen on the table...amazing presentation of meals. Attentive, pleasant staff. Be sure to try the avocado toasts with mustard frill for breakfast.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, live jazz -- usually a trio or a quartet -- starts at 8 p.m. This is a saloon and many patrons are more interested in talking with their friends than in listening to the music, which is often excellent, the Archtones in particular. On Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, a quartet was fronted by a talented young woman who sang in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Unfortunately, her voice was totally overwhelmed by the over-amplified electric bass guitar. A little more attention to the music would make this a truly wonderful venue. On the food and drink front, beware of sandwiches that are made with greasy grilled bread. Ask for plain bread. There's a creative cocktail list, some good wine choices, and reasonably priced beer. The two local IPAs are $8 each. All in all, a convivial place.

We had hors d'oeuvres as our meal and several drinks. The band, with a sixties style female singer was great. Service was impeccable and the experience wonderful.

Located in the US Grant Hotel right off Broadway and across the street from Horton Plaza. The food, drinks and service was excellent. Great ambiance for couples or business meeting due to its elegance.

My husband and I stopped by for breakfast today. We normally frequent the Grant Grill about every month or so...I ordered the Croque Madame and my husband ordered French Toast with a side of bacon. We also had 2 glasses of orange juice and 2 coffees. Total price with tip was 71 dollars plus change. The breakfast was fine, although one of the eggs on my Croque Madame was over cooked. I asked the waiter to return the meal (which I rarely do); the second time was much better. Food was delicious, the Bechamel sauce on the Croque Madame was very good as was the side of asparagus. The Grant Grill is a very nice place and overall the hotel is beautiful. The employees are very friendly and efficient. Service is always very good. I would definitely return to this restaurant. Tip-if you use the valet parking it is free for at least 3 hours. Not sure if this is all the time-would check with the hotel.

After sweet talking our way to a 9:58 seating (10 pm close) we were BLOWN AWAY by the staff! Natalie was our server and she was spot on with all recommendations, quick to tell the history of everything from drinks to dishes and back not to say friendly and cheerful (even given our horrible timing). The even also featured the sounds of "Blood Wine Gypsy". Wonderful swinging JAZZ with stand up bass, aquistic eletric guitar, fiddle and female crooner. They do covers of pop songs with an obvious, and not so, twist. We had four drinks of the specialty in-house craft cocktail menu and the all were outstanding. I had a Manhattan for the first time since the years of discovering I didn't like scotch and it was lovely. Both salads were sweet and textured. Oysters three ways and foie gras rounded out the night (oh, and more cocktails swinging to the Jazz! One last time hats off to the staff for their willingness to seat us and for turning around our entire weekend (and hotel experience)! We'll be back for sure!!!!

The grill is located at the lobby level of the Grant hotel. It has a luxurious yet comfortable furniture. The staff are great. Service is exemplary. The burger I ordered was delicious. A great place to be back to.

Delicious meal, well prepared and well served. friendly relatively quiet room with live jazz. Scallops and mock turtle soup were terrific. Fresh hot focaccia bread almost a dessert.

The Grant Grill might not be one of the romantic seafront hotels in SD, but it surely offers a nice dining experience in a charming turn-of-the-century atmosphere. Food here is good, with delicious and elaborate courses. The Brunch menu is particularly rich and varied, while dinner offered some creative and tasty options, but we strangely had the impression to have less variety than for breakfast (particularly speaking about Salads, entrees and vegetarian options...). Service was overall good, but, having dined here more than once, we found the service quality a bit depending on the waiter in charge of us. Music is sometimes played in the evening, entertaining but not so loud to overcome conversation. Prices a bit on the high side, but still reasonable. Would be good for business and couples dining, maybe a bit too formal for families.

Our room included a credit at the Grill. We had three meals and were veru happy with the meals. First off the service is top-notch. Our waiter Jose did a great job as did the whole staff. Our coffee was always filled. And plates cleared quickly. The room is upscale and classy. Great for a date or business meeting. The food, a combo breakfast and brunch menu was consistently good. I tried a waffle, steak sandwich and a burger. Each was well prepared and had good flavor. This is not a cheap eats place mind you, but it was very good. We recommend the Grill without hesitation.

The Grant Grill is one of the best restaurants in San Diego. The drinks are exquisite, the service is sublime and the food is to die for. It’s one of the main reasons i stay at the US Grant hotel.

Love the atmosphere of this historic hotel! The food is also exceptional. Get the blueberry muffin at breakfast!

Classical, quintessential elegant, romantic restaurant. But without the stodgy menu. Many items give a sense of experimentation, even humor. Food cooked to perfection, some of the best we've found on the West Coast. Had the rack of lamb. Exquisite but portion a little small. Just two little chops along with a small bundle of pulled lamb shank. Expansive wine list and also an interesting option for a variety of vintage beers Generally good, attentive service. Will certainly try to get back when in town.

My husband and I had our last meal of a 2 week vacation here, at the Grant Grill for two reasons- first-we had enjoyed the Happy Hour the previous night in the Lounge and second- uno advise from the concierge, who throughout our stay- were spot on! They were absolutely right. It was a fabulous meal- with much detail to my allergy- the scallops were delicious , we shared the brussel sprouts and a delicious dessert! Kudos to the chef! It was pricey, but worth every penny- from the decor, the service, the wine and finally ,the food! I would go back and highly recommend it for a special occasion.

Don't order room service-hamburger will run $35 with add-on fees, etc. Nice that 24x7 room service is available

Went here for a birthday celebration and the server and chef made it special. The environmental was classy and tasteful with some great live music and warm informal atmosphere. They serve some interesting cocktails (most of which are a bit sweet ) and the food and wine were spectacular, rounded off with as specially decorated desert. The whole experience was so good we decided to stay the rest of the evening, instead of moving on to another venue nearby, which is what we had originally intended. I wish more restaurants in the US had such well trained staff, sensitive to your needs, but not hovering, rushing you or trying to take your plate away before everyone has finished. Grant Grill is perfect for a special night!

Think old school, fancy joint with exceptional service. If you value quality over price (expense account) then this is your place. Two people for lunch. We had a turkey sandwich and a large salad. It was really good, but even drinking tap water it was still about forty bucks. Bottom line - Great place to impress people and do a traditional business lunch or dinner.

Yum, yum, yum. A bunch of pancakes, eggs Benedict and chicken and waffles. The ambiance was nice, the service was fast. Can't wait to go back. Absolutely recommended!!!

I had Mr. Alberto's special fall Apple Harvest festival tasting menu $82 with the optional wine and drink pairings. $39, Chef Mark Kropczynski has a well-earned reputation for excellence. This was an expensive meal, but if you're looking for a gourmet dining experience, the price is well worth it. The service is always friendly, and the food is always amazing. The specialty drinks are amazing. Alberto keeps on satisfying his customers, and he has a loyal following. I like that I can have a 5-course meal at the Grant Grill and will not feel stuffed. For me the serving portions are just right. The bar is very popular in itself for happy hour drinks and snacks. I wouldn't consider a visit to San Diego complete without a stop at the Grant Grill. Don't miss it.

Though we weren't staying in the US Grant Hotel we were referred to them by the concierge at our hotel as being one of the best spots in town for brunch. We're awfully glad we did. Food and service were exemplary. I highly recommend the citrus avocado salad. The Grant Breakfast was also superb. Come hungry!

I came here with business colleagues on a break for lunch while attending a meeting in the U S Grant Hotel. The decor is understated with mahogany woods and white tablecloths and napkins. Be sure to try the classic mock turtle soup. I had the smoked salmon--yummy. The service was very good. The Grant Grill is very quiet and great place for a business meeting.

This is not an everyday meal; many waiters/waitresses will tend you through the night in this very high class setting with excellent service and food in a quiet atmosphere in a first-rate downtown hotel. Our waitress was a poised veteran with insights on the area as well as the menu; right on target. And our meals and drinks were delicious. If you're after a special night out in a formal establishment that knows what it's doing, this is a great choice. Thanks for noting if this was helpful to you.

We had breakfast here. The restaurant was pretty full but we were seated without much wait and the service was extremely friendly. The potatoes and orange juice were my favorite. The food was very fresh and I think the OJ was freshly squeezed. Very nice place for breakfast.
Amazing
Simply put, this may have been the finest restaurant experience of my life. Amazing food, wonderful service, great ambiance, and a jazz trio to tie it all together! The drink menu deserves its own review.
