A great place for a quick lunch in Chinatown

By GreyPoundLondon |

We picked this place by chance from the massive array of small restaurants in the Chinese area of New York City. It had started raining and we were hungry. We were not disappointed. It is very small and crowded with no frills - perfect for a quick lunch. The service was quick and the food plentiful. My seafood with noodles was delicious but I have no idea what creatures some of the components came from. Lots of tea accompanied the food.

2 lbs of Duck

By Selene Ravenheart |

Grabbed 2 pounds of Duck to go. Can't really say how the rest of the food was, but when we got home the Duck was decent and was good.

Classic Chinese Noodle Shop

By Pamela L |

Alright, I am not an expert on Chinese Food. My adult son was on a trip with me to New York. He wanted an authentic Chinese restaurant in China Town. Checked the travel books and trip advisor and decided on this restaurant. Looks like a hole in the wall. We may have been the only tourist there. Lots of noodle choices. Waiter did not speak much English. My son was ordering quite a lot of food for 3 people.. Waiter said "no, no, too much food". He helped pare down our order. Even then we had too much food. All very good. Cash only.

Delicious!

By Fallon R |

We knew we wanted good Chinese food from Chinatown but did not know where to start. I googled "best Chinese food in Chinatown, NY" and this restaurant came up and so we went. It's a very small restaurant but we were able to get a table quickly. They have a great sanitation score and many rewards throughout the years hanging on the wall. The food was amazing! Portions were large and price was decent!

Real Chinese food

By Karolina R |

I have chosen Great N.Y. Noodletown based on the internet reviews. I always wanted to try the original Chinese cuisine, as it's not easy to find a real Chinese restaurant in Poland. The place hasn't disappointed me at all. The food was Great!

Great atmosphere and food

By DoraGibraltar |

Amazing barbecued meats on rice- the duck was divine. Great Singapore noodles as well. Worth the wait to get a table. Really good value for money

Surprising corner

By Marco P |

A must in Chinatown

By coops99 |

We called here twice on our 5 day trip to NYC after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. The first visit was better than the second. First time the food was steaming hot, the second time it had to be put in the microwave ...but still cold. very busy restaurant, don't expect fine dining and 5* service, it's a typical street food venue but the food is amazing, friendly overworked staff. Very busy but worth the hustle bustle.

Don't be put off by the look... the food is amazing!

By Adrian |

We went here and in honesty were a little worried about the state of the place. After waiting 20 minutes to be seated (it was rammed!) we finally sat down in a slightly uncomfortable small table for four. The service was quite slow and if i'm honest we weren't that hungry after the debacle. We ordered a few plates and waited a while. Honestly I have no idea how such a dodgy looking place produces food fit for royalty. The sweet and sour chicken was simply the best I've ever had and if I lived near here I would never visit another Chinese restaurant again. Our waiter although slow at first was warm and chatty by the end, even sharing a bit of banter about Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear (he clearly was a big fan). Be prepared to wait for a seat, don't be put off by the look and you will have a brilliant meal!

Great authentic Chinese Food

By Mikefrommentor |

Went there on a Saturday night based on Trip Advisor reviews. Took subway nice walk through Chinatown. Small restaurant but luckily got table right away. Service was not friendly but efficient. Teenage daughter had crispy soy noodles with vegetables. I had roasted duck. Duck served Chinese style with bone remaining in pieces of meat. Portions are large. Dinner was very flavorful and the total was $15. There are large round tables for bigger groups. Of course you have the option of doing carry out.

Excellent Authentic Chinese food

By TMunnJax |

What a great lunch we had. The food was delicious. The service was adequate. Small cramped tables, but wonderful authentic Chinese food.

Exceeded my expectations

By Lissette |

Really cozy and delicious chinese food . Everyone got free hot tea with the meal. The chinese sausage fried rice was delicious

Yummy Noodles

By Mark R |

Great food, alright atmosphere, ok service. Make sure and bring money, they don't do CCs. Glad I had money on me. Food had a lot of flavor, but when I needed water I had to wait forever for it. Make sure you ask them for what you need when you see them. If you go alone, they may not pay attention to you

Cheap, fast, great tasting Chinese food, huge portions, few frills.

By danielmillstone |

We've been here many times. Soft shell crabs in season (during the summer) are wonderful. Duck? A delight. Singapore Mai Fun, somewhat short of shrimp but perfectly seasoned, Beef stew over rice? Somewhat spicy. Last night we spent $45 for three with beer and couldn't finish the food.

Excellent spot for lunch or dinner

By Brooklynite_Abroad |

This is my go to spot for shrimp dumplings with noodle soup, for the last two decades. Served in a savory broth, and at a cheap price; you can’t go wrong for lunch here. The space has four top and round six top tables and is always busy and is open late into the night. This is a cash only restaurant. Hot green tea is complimentary here. Other standout dishes here are the salt-pepper baked shrimp (prepared without their shells), the ginger-scallion chicken breast, roast duck over rice, and Singapore mei fun noodles. All these dishes are amazing. Come alone or bring friends and this too will become your go to spot in Chinatown.

Good old Cantonese Food

By Rich7075 |

While visiting NYC my wife and I had to go to the Great N.Y. Noodletown in Manhattan’s Chinatown. Featured in many YouTube Foodie vlogs. This is a popular “old school” Cantonese restaurant featuring various noodle dishes and Chinese BBQ meat delicacies. We dropped by on a Thursday after 1:00pm and were delighted that we were able to get seated on a single table immediately. We were each served hot tea in a glass old school style. We ordered quickly as is usually what the staff appreciates in these small restaurants. Our order of Won Ton Noodles with Beef Stew and Combination Two BBQ Items (Roast Pork & Roast Duck) on Rice came out quickly. We shared the dishes and enjoyed eating good Cantonese food. We both agreed the Won Ton Noodles with Beef Stew was particularly delicious and the Roast Pork was very tasty. Cheap prices and good quick service was a bonus! Fun and a nostalgic experience makes it a worthwhile visit to this iconic restaurant.

V disappointing.

By amandeephuj |

Duck was full of bones, noodles were poor. Only nice thing was the rice, though we did ask for egg fried rice, but it was just plain rice… Wouldn’t recommend.

Awful service

By CloudSurfer52 |

Me and my other half visited here on our first visit to Chinatown during our recent stay in NYC. We requested 2 cans of coke which weren't brought to us until we reminded the waiter, which is fair enough... these things happen. I ordered a Singapore Mai Fun which is equivalent to a Singapore Vermicelli if you are from the UK. The portion size is very generous and very filling, although the taste of it was average, nothing to really rave about. After finishing our meals and asking for the bill, we were brought our change and it was at this point the waiter tapped the table 3 times and said "tip", demanding that we leave one. Absolutely atrocious attitude from this member, will not be coming back! We went here as it appears on numerous blogs and websites about where to go in chinatown, we were left incredibly disappointed, won't be going back on a future trip to NY. T

From hanging in window to plate.

By David N |

Visited here after a recommendation. The food is top notch, portion sizes are huge and very cheap - the duck is amazing !! A few reviews have said the service is bad but don't be put off by that - the waiters are just not smiling much. I would defo recommend if you are looking for Chinese cuisine.

Yummy and large portions!

By LeahSS825 |

We'd heard great things about Great NY Noodle Town and wanted to try it out while in NYC for our anniversary trip. It did NOT disappoint! Very yummy and quite filling delights! The service was mediocre, but the food far outweighed it! I'd go back!

Fun and tasty down to the oranges at the end of the meal!

By Burgesskpc |

This is a busy, authentic Chinese restaurant with a quick tempo vibe. Food was delicious, especially the roasted duck with noodles. All entrees were delicious and portions were huge. We were a party of 3 and we WAY over-ordered, despite the kind advice from our server. We also had a multi-meat-& seafood noodle dish and a chicken and vegetable with wide noodles as entrees. The meals conclude with a bowl of freshly cut oranges! What a great way to cleanse your palate--and healthy, too. This is a fun and tasty place...

I Forgot about this Chinatown gem!

By Joan F |

Roast duck with noodles is a bargain at 7.50! Don't be put off by the humble environment! So delicious!!!

Plain and really good

By Victor P |

Four of us had came here for lunch because of the TripAdvisor recommendations and were so pleased we did. No ambiance but wonderful food. The extensive menu and extra offerings on cards at the table took a bit of time, but with the minimal, brusque help of our (busy) server, we ordered three dishes which easily filled four of us. The only negative was the overly fatty duck pieces.

Lots of choices

By Tunaidi |

Great NY Noodle Town has indeed withstood the test of time. This joint offers a very extensive menu. While the items are decent, nothing really stands out. I was more impressed with the choices than the quality of the dishes. Though kudos that the wontons are indeed comprised of whole shrimp.

Best salt shrimp in NYC!

By hnasr |

Very very simple place, but excellent food! We had the BBQ pork, the salt baked shrimp and the fried rice. Everything was a 10!

Chinese diner

By Jing K |

I would equate this place to a good classic diner. Open late until 2/3am and has solid Cantonese stir fry and soup noodle dishes in addition to roasted meats. Not really a place you would go for a big traditional family style dinner but it's good for a solid plate of beef stew egg noodles or congee late at night.

An experience

By Michael G |

Huge portions, and nicely cooked, if you can plough your way through. Situated in Chinatown, and lots of locals were in - always a good sign.

The Real deal

By BroadwayBruce |

The first question you have to ask is." whey are you here?" If you've traveled from near and far looking for a Disneyfied experience this ain't it. However if you're hankering for food like roasted meats and assorted dishes (fish) that transport you somewhere between Hong Kong and the main land, then sit down, order and shut up. In a country of a billion plus Chinese food reflects the no frills wonder of a bowl slurp, the hustle and bustle of steam tables, kitchens and waiters with little patience. Welcome you are in a new world where the mixed tables and servings are transportive. Otherwise stay uptown and pretend you are engaged in the indecency of life.

Oh! Wow!

By Gourmetbabe |

The most memorable softshell crab ever! So crunchy, yet juicy and succulent. On a bed of lettuce and chopped green chillies. The service was expected to be coarse, but the waiter was patient and even smiled at two foodies from Norway who enjoyed the delicacies from the kitchen. We also had the lobster with soft noodles. Also good, but the crab really beats everything!

Great Food

By James B |

Great NY Noodletown has an excellent selection of authentic Chinese cuisine. Fast service, excellent taste, and great variety to choose from.

High recommendation that lived up to its praise

By rosaPDX13 |

Long line that moved fast and SO WORTH It! Delicious- the duck rolls, the chicken with celery was fabulous- large portions, all so tasty!

Great soups.

By Jose Eduardo Btesh |

We went for lunch on a Saturday. We ordered 2 different soups, Shrimp noodle soup and vegetable noodle soup. The broths were delicious.

Food and service are both spotty

By LATraveller77 |

This hugely popular restaurant has maybe 55 seats, and a never-ending line around the block waiting for seats plus a thriving take-out business. The seating is a kind of organized (or maybe not so much) chaos. The guy doing the seating waves and gestures to patrons to go away or to come forward, and you just have to stay alert if you want to snag a seat. Unless you are four people and there happens to be a table for four open, you will be seated at a communal table. If you don't want that kind of seating, then you should eat elsewhere. As for the service, we had three different wait staff take our order and deliver our food, in no particular order. The food is wildly erratic in quality and flavor. We were thrilled to see soft-shell crabs on the menu. Too bad they were so encased in salt that they were inedible. They had no spare ribs. What Chinese restaurant runs out of spare ribs at 6:30PM? The barbecue pork was delicious. The duck lo mein was awful. The chicken lo mein was mediocre and greasy, The shrimp dumplings with noodles were tasty, but the broth was barely warm. The best dish on the table was the tofu and rice. Too bad that, of the four of us, I'm the only one who really likes tofu. Overall, I'd never go there for dinner again "on purpose," but if I'm in the neighborhood and I'm in the mood for all that noise and salt and grease, I'd eat there, but it will NEVER be a destination spot of me (and I don't understand why it is for anyone else, either).

Great food, you'll just have to wait in line.

By Lgndk11r |

Didn't think much of this place when we visited, but the food is excellent! Try the shrimp dumplings with noodles and soup, the duck, and the pork strips. Note: it's a tight squeeze at the entrance, especially if you're waiting to be seated. An alternative is to do take out, as you can just line up in the nearby cashier.

Your tastebuds will thank you

By MannGlenn |

This is a no frills place that can feel a little cramped, but it's more than worth the visit. The roast pork is a genuine true delight that will leave you wanting more and more. This is a perfect place for a quick inexpensive meal while you're exploring Chinatown and the surrounding downtown area.

typical chinese restarant

By KimuSan |

One good meal,one bad.

By daveb95 |

We had a great meal on our first visit, restaurant was quiet, and we received generous portions, with lovely duck and beef dishes,so we decided to return.Unfortunately on our second visit, the restaurant was extremely busy, but we waited for a table, which was a mistake. We had similar dishes to our previous visit, but the duck dish was fatty skin, the pork ribs were just gristle, overall very disappointing.Probably best to avoid weekends.

Must know what you like-if it is on the menu-you will like it

By JRM10009 |

This restaurant is not a standard Chinese restaurant, so make sure you review the menu before you go. My wife has been going there for many, many years and I am a convert back in the early 1990s. The food is excellent and the service is usually very good. Don't expect white table cloths, but go there for the food and the locals ( patrons and staff). Roast duck, pork, and baby pig on rice are all great. Very authentic and yummy!!

Great suggestion from TripAdvisor

By Cjmonroe |

10 of us rate there together last night and had terrific meals. From duck to squid to chicken, every member of our large group ate their fill and then some. Really worth the stop.

Chinesse people eat here

By marnieemile_17 |

Good good, good prices and excelent portions. The portion can split for too. Spring roll too greasy, steam dumplings excelent. The service very good, only cash. In front of the restaurant have a atm inside the Bank of America.

It's like a Chinese restaurant in the Japanese countryside.

By hisabon59 |

I used to go there many times before the coronavirus outbreak, but it seems the ornaments have changed and the taste has deteriorated considerably. They used to be open until around 2am, but now they close at 10pm.

Two Mgrs, one Gentleman and nasty man

By TravelandEatNewYork |

This place has great food There are 2 managers one with a ponytail who is gentleman, always kind and polite. The other one is very nasty, always gets the orders mixed up and screams at you. The guy is a complete jerk. It’s obvious he doesn’t like his job anymore and should retire. I will only pick up food if I see the gentleman with the ponytail there. I spoke to the church association and the ladies there all say the same. Someone should tell him he is driving customers away.

Never again

By CristianLungu |

Worst service ever. Disappointing food compared to how the reviews look like. 5 people in the evening. Things moved fairly fast and got a table. Waited more than 10 min to get our order taken. Asked a question about an item on the menu and the waiter answered and walked away before we got the chance to order. Another 5 or more minutes passed before he returned to take our order. One of the dishes (rice and pork) came within 5 minutes from ordering, while for the others (with noodles) we had to wait more than 20 minutes, and this while others, that came in after us, received their food. Overall: crappy food, crappier attitude. First and last visit.

One of the best bbq meats I’ve ever had

By Josephliyen |

This place knows how to do the meats right. The duck is super good and the pork is not too fat. I keep coming back.

Perfectly OK

By BarryandJackie |

Not much to appreciate from the street and little ambiance once you arrive into the restaurant. Nothing very fancy on the menu, although most everything looked good, and we certainly enjoyed the items that we had. Quick service and delivery of the food. Price somewhere between reasonable and bargain.

Sigh... Somethings do survive the test of time

By ChucoBearrie |

I've been coming to this restaurant all my life. Back then it was simply Noodletown. My parents took us here as young kids and it is still the place to go. It's a bucket list thing. Yes the place is small and usually really slammed. That's part of its charm. The food is still pretty good. The service is still just as harried, The wait staff don't have the time to socialize. Please come in, eat, and leave so we can service the next party. They are not rude, no more than usual anyway. With the low prices, they make their money with all the turnarounds. It might be a hole in the wall place but don't judge it because of that. It's jam packed for a reason. I had the wonton noodle soup and an extra side of veggies in oyster sauce. Was not disappointed. Will come back to eat as long as this place is here. Will bring my child here when he really eats.

Best Noodles in Chinatown

By Green2be |

If you are a visitor like myself, -do go a bit off Canal street whilst in Chinatown. After treating yourself with an amazing massage at the Renew Spa next door, pop in for at Noodle Town next door for a bowl of hearty Wonton Noodle Soup. All home made and so delicious.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

By Peony |

Living in NYC for 40 years...NY Noodletown is my 1st...and usually only...Chinese choice. Don't let the looks of it deceive you. Best ever roast duck & barbecue ribs only to mention the obvious. As my Daddy always said, 'never go into an empty restaurant!' That being said its packed and you may have to wait just a few minutes. Great NY Noodletown is more than worth it.

Always a favorite...Salt shrimp!

By gatorsharon |

We always go here when in NYC. Our favorite Chinese restaurant. It is very small and crowded, but we love the food. Service is very good, they want to get you fed and get you out the door! We come here mainly for the salt shrimp and salt scallops. No where else have we ever found this. The roast duck is also good. Very reasonably priced. Cash only!

Soup nazi of Chinatown

By jakerx |

I can’t believe this place won a certificate of Excellence! Others have mentioned a problem with the line and the seating but we figured out rather quickly that you just had to get the person who is doing the seating to notice you and he would note how many in your party. While ordering, the waiter did walk away while we were still talking which was a another problem noted by others. Our food was served one dish at a time which made the first person who received their dish slightly uncomfortable as they didn’t want to start their soup before everyone else received their food. We encouraged them to begin and they did and found a STAPLE in their soup. When we brought it to the attention of the waiter he shrugged and asked if we wanted another bowl or if we wanted it off the bill. Personally I felt that it should’ve been removed off the bill and given another bowl of soup. He was so casual about this I felt that it had occurred before. The second bowl of soup arrived as everyone else was finishing and the person who seated us came over and said you have to leave there is a line. We were shocked!! A few minutes later he came back and apologized so obviously someone must’ve told him about the situation with the staple. This is the first time I’ve been told I had to eat faster. The food was average, my money (cash only!) would’ve been better spent elsewhere. Before we left, I visited the restroom. Had I done this prior to eating I would not have eaten! Sticky floor, mold and filth everywhere and you could see where only the center of the floor was mopped. If they care so little about their public space I cannot imagine the lack of cleanliness is the kitchen.

CASH ONLY Take Out!

By misopiso88 |

We were looking for late night take out Chinese and Great NY Noodletown was a perfect option! We ordered a couple items and ran around the corner to get bubble tea too. It is CASH only so keep this in mind if you plan to go!

Great!

By Middlebrough |

Don't expect warm customer service here; but expect excellent authentic food! It's a ramshackle place off a side street; but the noodles were amazing. Everyone in there was Chinese as well. We loved it!

Amazing food, heavenly!

By Joost G |

When we were in Chinatown we came across this little restaurant! This is a real treasure and for us a hidden gem! It's small inside but cosy and it was buzzing with customers, so that had to be a good sign. The food was traditional and so tasty, it was something magical! We were so lucky that we had found this restaurant and when we get back to NY (and we will) we are coming back here. If you are looking for a small, cosy and very good chinese restaurant make sure you stop here! We all know we a restaurant is filled with locals it must be good, right? And even some NYPD-officers were eating there, so the food is even protected by law :)

A total and local feast

By Vedat Basan |

The best hand pulled noodle in the world. You must go and taste yourself. Zagat couldn't be mistaken for the past five consecutive years. On the other hand the meal was the cheapest lunch we had in NYC. Value for money, value for yourself and value for your stomach !!! Do not miss

Not the same Noodletown of past years.

By Cosmopolitan724405 |

New management. Not the same quality. Living on old reputation. It is really subpar. Trust me, I grew up and know this place. Used to be a favorite local place. If you don't know Cantonese dive restaurant standards, you won't know the difference. I would pass until they get new chefs.

Tiny restaurant, take cash

By MissyCW |

Don't go here for the service or the ambiance. We wanted to eat somewhere in Chinatown and this is a popular choice. The food is good. The place is very small with no waiting area. You may be seated with people you don't know. Service was almost nonexistent. They only accept cash.

Delicious Soup

By Rebecca W |

We had the pork wonton soup and it was the best we've ever had. Everything was very good. Food came quickly but interaction with service staff was minimal. Bare minimum in terms of helping us select dishes from the extensive menu. Nonetheless would recommend!

Poor service

By NA22 |

We chose to eat here on our first trip to Chinatown. It looked promising and granted we were sat on a table with others- that seems to be the done thing so fine. Again, food is ready when it’s ready and doesn’t come all at once for one party. The server took our order but the dishes brought to the table were not as ordered. We requested noodles which did not appear and asked for crispy shredded beef without sauce and what arrived was soggy beef draped in sauce over broccoli. Despite this not being what we ordered, we politely ate some of the dishes before requesting the bill. We paid in full only to have the server hold his hand out and tell us we need to tip. Absolutely disgusting attitude. Where we come from, tips are earned and this service did not warrant a tip. Find somewhere else to eat as this isn’t the place.

Your average Chinese restaurant

By Eponine82 |

Good place if you want a quick and not too expensive dinner. Got the mixed vegetables with noodles and it was okay, lots of vegetables which I liked. Husband got the duck with pan-fried noodles which wasn't bad either but mostly noodles and only a few pieces of meat and hardly anything else. Just your average Chinese, nothing to rave about but no complaints either.

Simply superb!

By Mary L |

An outstanding lunch! We were wandering around Chinatown after the immersive Van Gogh exhibit, looking for a simple lunch on a sweltering day. Opted to dine in, as the air conditioning was a welcome respite, and were thrilled with a huge menu, attentive service, and absolutely stupendous food! The curry beef on rice was perfect—tender beef and veggies in a curry with just the right amount of zing. My companion’s shrimp with lobster sauce was also pronounced outstanding. Setting is basic but spotlessly clean. Prices were low, portions ample, and there was a brisk take-out business, so the food is obviously addictive. Recommend highly!

Good noodle Dishes

By WheelingTraveler |

This place serves good noodle dishes and congee, but it has limited space. Tables are placed close to each other and that affects the overall dining experience. But if your focus is on the food, this place is well worth a visit. Service is average comparing with other Chinese restaurants.

Take-out - not up to expectations

By Carol F |

I admit, I had found the Brothers Green on youtube and marked this down as a place to grab lunch in Chinatown - was really excited about a duck/smoked pig over rice - was prepared for the line, the wait, the abrupt service - all in preparation for something wonderful. Sadly, it was not...duck slightly stale tasting (% meat 10/ % bones 90), the crispy skin wasn't...pig - tasty but tough with a skin so stiff that it was unchewable - all served over plain rice/steamed cabbage which turned out to be the best part of the plate. Cost was low - but, in this case, got what we paid for. It might have just been luck of the draw and we got the one substandard of the day, but, still a disappointment.

Great bang for the buck! Especially love the beef noodles.

By Dr Z |

This place offers great bang for the buck, don’t miss it Takeout only now, but nice hearty dishes to enjoy. Highly recommend the shrimp won ton, the beef chow fun (beef noodles), charsiu pork (sweet tasting), the crispy skin pork, and seafood pan fried noodles. It tastes better when you can eat there but it is great takeout for a cold winter evening.

Large selection of cantonese noodle dishes and many barBQ items

By eddiechub |

This place is like two different places, with a large cantonese rice and noodle selections, and also a separate area where barBQ is cooked and displayed in the window. I have been here twice and enjoyed my food and the service is excellent. There is a communal table where I sat once with a few other singes. This place has late hours and is usually quite busy, especially with take out. The prices are pretty low and is cash only.

Noodles, served till 4 am

By Hui L |

Michelin, Zagat, Anthony Bourdain. This authentic Cantonese dig is famous. Get a bowl of shrimp wonton noodle in the midnight of NY coldness IS what defined as comfort food. Their roasted chicken is juicy too, which is recommended by my friend who's a long time chef

Great food and service

By ElenaCassandra |

Service was good, food was tasty and portions were very good but you need to know what to order, we looked around and most people were eating soup noodles out of bowls so perhaps that is what they are known for but we chose different food. Would definitely eat there again and would recommend this.

Went for dinner two days in a row!

By 485leonardd |

My family and I were in New York for four nights this year starting on January 1, 2015. Before we left home for NYC I visited the public library and checked out the Frommer's guide to NYC. The guide provides a list of restaurants by neighbourhood and price. Noodletown was one of the recommended restaurants under the inexpensive category. The entire family loved it including the kids, aged 7 and 5. We ordered wonton with noodles and dumplings, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour pork, noodle and broccoli. We enjoyed our first time that we went back the next night. This is a restaurant for New Yorkers, no fuss just good food served quickly and unlike most restaurants in NYC its inexpensive. We spent $35 the first time and $24 the second time for the whole family! I will go back every time I visit NYC!

open late - til 4 am

By Melanie T |

Great NY Noodle Town is one of the few places in Chinatown that are open late. And when I say late, I mean 4 a.m. I've been here a handful of times on a few of those late (drunken) nights. But the memory of how the food tasted (along with the nights I was up past 10 pm) are long gone. I recently got to try it (sober) and it wasn't bad. Of course, it isn't the best Chinatown option but if you're in the area and you want some Chinese food, Noodle Town will do. They have a pretty extensive menu so if there's something specific you want, they'll probably have it. Like I said, the food isn't anything to write home about but if you're up late and you don't mind the drunken clientele or the tourists, then this place is a pretty solid option.

GOTTA LOVE IT

By 13360man |

This is a simple CASH ONLY restaurant. If you expect Shun Lee or PF Changs then go there. Not here. The soups come out piping hot! The chicken flavor shines through. I love the salt baked chicken that comes with a ginger/scallion sauce that is flavorful. The waitress asked me if I wanted all boneless white meat because a “no” means that I will get the cleaver cut breast with some bones (easy to easy around). They no longer put a tea pot on the table, but they kept our tea glasses (yes, this is not Ms. Fancypants tea service) full with HOT tea. BUDGET FRIENDLY. The two large round table are shared—not the food or the ordering, but you eat at the same table as strangers. They have several four-tops. Get the Chinese vegetables in oyster sauce. Share the bright green vegetables as everyone gets some soup and a “main dish.” This is NOT the place where you can linger—it is too small. The food is deeeeeeelicious.

Terrific food and energy

By FeedBob |

Dropped in with a group of 7 at 8pm on a Thurs. It was packed, but the waiter worked us in to a table within 10mins. Food was awesome—went with a local who said it was his go to place. I see why. Energy in the place is something too. Small seating area; 4x folks doing takeout. Loud with food and trays flying by. Chopped meats (duck, pork, chicken) happening in the dining room (they hang in the window). The Salted Shrimp was fantastic. Duck was best had in years. Cash only—but very affordable. Will definitely be back!

Truly authentic Chinatown

By Beachfamilybum |

Epitome of the NYC China town experience. Busy even late at night. Quick service and extensive menu. Food cooked perfectly and the most cost effective option among the Manhattan dining. Will go back.

I hate to do this!

By giljoy89 |

It is cheap. Great NY Noodletown has no atmosphere. The service is rudimentary at best. The parking is nonexistant. The food however is terriffic! Shrimp dumpling soup (no noodles please) is great. Roast pork with string beans and shrimp with vegetables and beef chow fon are all very good too. The food is 1972 Cantonese which is not haute cuisine but is delicious. Most of the patrons are asian with a mix of anyone you can possibly imagine and some you could never imagine. I love it.

Great food!

Their congee and wonton noodle soup are great! The price is super affordable. Make sure you order yeo teow (Chinese doughnut) to eat with congee. Yeah, just dip it in! CASH ONLY!

Authentic and fabulous food

By paul s |

Had 7days in NYC in March, 2016. My wife is a veggie and we both like trying different places to eat. Read some good reviews about this place and thought we would give it a try. Not disappointed, the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Bony roast duck - disappointing

By Sabena S |

Great NY Noodletown was closed last year for renovation for several months. Pre-covid it had developed a cult following and chefs used to come here after their shift was over. Two days ago, i ate here. The roast duck over rice was a dismal sight as none of the pieces had much meat on them and were bony. The rice also had a peculiar flavor. Two duck rolls were quite tasty. There was a long queue of people picking up meats for the Lunar New Year and so my order took quite a while to come. Even though I my meal was disappointing I will return to have the wonton soups and other entrées. Most of the seating is communal with few separate tables. Business is brisk and one isn’t encouraged to linger. The decor is plain and there are now two clean unisex restrooms at the back.

Will not return. Horrible customer service - food has gone down hill.

By rtfax |

Had been a regular when we lived in NYC. On return visiting headed straight there, Waited for a table and two couples who came in after us were seated and then we were put with two couples and large table. Tried to get waiter attention but he took orders for two couples seated after us. We used to love the food here but it has got worse - sad to say and experience. We got a small paper with total price as the bill and asked to have the detailed billing showing items we ordered. He said they keep that. We said we needed it for accounting and he said for us to take a photo of it. We asked again for a copy of this billing (which we think is required by restaurants to provide). It didn't appear as if he would do this. We went to pay the bill and gave extra amount adequate for a tip, After a long time doing this payment, someone came to us with a copy of this detailed check. When we walked out, the waiter and the cashier went after us claiming we did not give a tip - which we did. Not good to do to customers. We did not return and will not return. BEWARE!

Good authentic Chinese food

By KJC93 |

Convenient location but small sitting space between tables. Not to take away from the tasty dumplings and noodle dishes.

over rated

By peperina826 |

this place came highly recommended but was just an average place....dumplings had a good thin pasta.....but no real flavor.....pig and pork dish was cold not really the way you should serve it unless you want pork salad if there is such a thing ....the noodle dish was a hefty portion fresh cut vegetables and good noodles but no flavor... also the meal felt rushed as if you were eating in a waring blender ..the saving grace was sitting at a large table with a rotating cast of characters...i guess that is where the real flavor was

Was hoping for a lot more

By Thero_Kenman |

This place was good, but not great. The dumpling and noodle soup with duck was tasty. The lo mien was not very good. I also took home some roast duck, which was solid, though a bit on the plain side. I might come here again, but I would not go out of my way.

Honest delightful Chinese food.

By Jordi Maria P |

In spite of the small size of this restaurant, their dishes are widely assorted. All of them look delicious but, in our opinion, they excel when cooking the Beijing roast duck. It's really yummy when enjoyed with an iced cold TsingTao beer. Fully recommended.

First Night in New York

By 𝒞𝒽𝓇𝒾𝓈𝓉𝓎💎 |

This was suggested to us by a friend who is a local of New York. Food: Was good, and the portion serving was a decent amount. Customer Service: staff were good and orders came in good time. Very popular and 24hours opening hours was an added bonus.

安くて美味しい!

By マカコ |

I went to Chine Town and Little Italy today, then I ate some Chinese meals which delicious and reasonable. This time, it works. I got a satisfaction it. 海老ワンタン麺が超オススメ!あっさりスープとプリプリ海老ワンタン、そして細麺が最高。 しかも、値段もチップ込みで7$。 安くて美味しいニューヨークのご飯を初めて食べた気がします!

Don’t be put off by the outside

By KarD_13 |

We had gone to Chinatown to try some food and this place had great reviews. Don’t be put off by the outside as it looks a bit rundown and forgotten about, however that is definitely not the case. The place was hopping both with people eating in and take away. It’s a open plan seating and a wide selection on menu. Very popular with the locals, the food was gorgeous, again very large portions and although it was busy throughout our meal, we didn’t feel rushed at all.

Great noodles! Who would have thought...

By nytreez |

An accidental lunchtime stop because every other dim sum place we tried had a line across the bridge! What a find. Great soy noodles, a very good noodle soup, tasty Mei fun and some fabulous roast pig. Can't wait to go again to try the duck and suckling pig. It was a bit cramped, surly waiter etc but I expect that , revel in the atmosphere and loved the lunch, especially walking out stuffed for $30!

Pretty average

By timc9 |

The food was quite average. Portion size is generous but the service was lacking and it was very busy with not much space. Cash only.

Simple is better

By Stan Tecza |

Didn’t know what to order. Ordered a shrimp wonton soup with noodles, a duck and roast pork with noodles soup and duck on rice. Simple is better.

First time for my Dallas Texas business friends!!!

By msdet1529 |

This is the first time for my Dallas Texas business associates to try Chinese BBQ. They are caterers for Private Jets and Private Aviation and my buddy is BBQ Pit master with two large Smokers on wheels back home. A Wonton soup to share amongst us four, a half of a BBQ Duck, and a combo of honey roast pork and crispy skin Roast pig started the feast. All four was on the money, first time for my buddy and he approved!!! Great flavor, sweet, and meaty!!! For the main course, a young chow fried rice and shredded chicken pan fried noodles followed up. Both entrees were of nice portion, tasty, filling and delish!!! Overall, this place is established well over 50 years. The last time I came here was about twenty years ago. Cash only, no CC. Small tight tables, “B” rating on the window and the place was jammed packed with a large diverse group of happy diners. Larger tables are for large parties and to share for single and couples dining. Enjoy!!!🥢🥢🥢

Great Food

By Tu H |

This is a must stop in Chinatown. My wife is from Singapore and she loves the wonton noodle soup. She’s picky and she gave this place a thumbs up. 👍 I ordered the roast pork and roast pig with rice. The roast pig was okay, skin wasn’t as crisp as other places I’ve eaten at. The roast pork was flavorful.

That Roast Duck!

By Sabena S |

Great NY Noodletown is a corner restaurant on the Bowery near Bayard Street. Nothing much to look at from the outside and more of a dive inside - but don’t let that fool you. The food here is very good indeed. This nondescript restaurant has a cult following and since it closes at 4 am a lot of chefs drop by after their shift is over to eat. Over the years I have eaten here countless times and wrote about the delicious food on Zomato. I like the salt & pepper shrimp, noodles and congee but my favorite is the roast duck, sautéed choy sum and rice. Heavenly! The duck here is tender yet meaty. If one is fortunate to get a piece with a gelatinous layer of caramelized fat thrn that will send a shiver of honeyed excitement through every pore in your body. Your mind will scream “More! More!” Along with crispy skin, this is what makes eating at Great NY Noodletown a distinct pleasure. Naturally your doctor may not agree but I doubt he will be a guest at your table! Most of the seating is communal with few separate tables. Business is brisk and one isn’t encouraged to linger. The decor is plain and there is a restroom on the same floor. Recommended.

Excellent Roasted Meats and Great Value!

Absolutely fantastic Roasted Duck and whole pig over Rice. The Shrimp & Walnut Dish was very good as well. Good traditional Lo Mein Noodles. The prices are extremely good especially for NYC

Great place in Chintown

By DonaldBrown12 |

Got the duck soup i eat here when i come to NYC. I was here in May 2016. located in Chinatown very cheap and tasty highly recommended.

Conveniently located near the bus stop to Mohegan Sun

By Lillian M |

Did I mention this restaurant is the bus stop for Chinatown's Mohegan Sun? Had to have a wonton roast duck noodle soup before the long trip to the casino. Great duck and shrimp wontons were delicious. Another hole in the wall restaurant, but seems like these kinds of places serve the best food. Another satisfied customer!

NY Noodletown - Not recommended

By אלכסיי ג |

A terrible restaurant. 2 of the 4 servings were not edible, one eatable and one fine. Service is not so good either. Do not recommend entering.

Great chinese

By CAT1999091 |

You don't go to this place for the atmosphere, you just go for the food. We loved the roast pork- so much flavor- and the beef with flowering chives. The lomein was good, not great. We were disappointed with the pork fried rice, but the other dishes were good enough to make up for it.

Awful

By AHA2008 |

Didnt enjoy my visit here. Portions far too big had to leave half of mine!!! Husband had to wait 20 minutes for his dinner to come out!!! I had finished!! Very cramped inside!!! Toilets really disgusting and needed a good clean!!!!!!!!

Excellent, excellent, excellent.

By Denver-Rosie |

Hotel recommended as Noodletown was 2 blocks down and we arrived late and hungry. Extensive menu - only complaint is that everything looked good and we had no idea what to order. We had crispy noodles and pork among other dishes - very good. Came back two days later for the soft-shell crabs - fantastic! Shrimp rolls - excellent. We will definately go back to Noodletown on our next visit to NYC.

Great eats, great value

By distortiongirl |

Doesn't look like much, but the food is authentic and tasty, and the price is right. 5 of us ate a hearty lunch for less than $40. Service was wonderful and friendly.

Value in Chinatown

By robertandjackie |

With so many restaurants in Chinatown it is hard to know which one to choose. Read some reviews & went into this one. The duck & roast pork were excellent. Small place filled with mostly local Chinese people,so you know it must be good.

Terrible food and service.

By Jim C |

Ordered takeout, 1/2 Duck, 1/2 chicken, 1/2 lb. Roast pork. They cut and packed them without letting you see. The duck contains mixed left-over pieces, no decent breast meat pieces, the skin is burnt, obviously reheated. The chicken is poorly cut with tasteless large chunks, hard to bite. The roast pork is obviously short of 1/2 pound, only several pieces at the bottom of a small round container.

Good Wonton Noodles

By conFuSed79 |

I came here twice whilst I was in New York as I was staying in Chinatown. The wonton noodles are a welcome change from the traditional American fare. Good sized wontons encased in smooth wonton skin! This place is also opened until the wee hours of the night which is great for supper. Service was typically brusque but friendly.

Average food, terrible service

By LuckyStar81 |

Average food at cheap(ish) prices. Don’t go if you don’t want to have one of the worst possible customer service experiences. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Best pork lo mein I've ever had

By weball |

Thanksgiving vacay to NYC with my family. I got the pork lo mein (pan fried not Hong Kong style). Best I've ever eaten. 12 year old daughter had chicken lo mein and loved it. Wife had soup which was ok. Very inexpensive to boot. I highly recommend.

Great food, cheap prices

By njmorin |

I went there with two hungry teenagers on a late dinner close to our hotel. We didn't regret it! Huge portions for a ridiculous price. The wonton shrimp soup would have been enough for two and was delicious, filled with big chunks of shrimps. My older son took the beef soup and it was also very good. The beef fried rice was one of the best I've had Now, for the price paid (they only take cash, be aware of it), I don't care if the decoration looks cheap and the waiter is busy. They were friendly and answered our questions regarding the extensive choices they have on their menu. Yes, there might be busy times when you'll have to wait, but it's worth it. They don't pretend to be a first class restaurant, don't expect that and you'll be fully satisfied. The whole experience was really fun with my kids. Try it!

Noodle heaven

By Nikunj P |

Great place for fresh noodles, not much to look at but the food is incredible and cheap for ny prices.

Roach issues

By Sammy C |

I reported a roach issue with the department of health - The roach came out of the AC duct and the waiter killed it I been going there for over 20yrs thru 2-3 owners and experiences numerous health issue - like roaches / food preparation / food exposed in the open air and under "standard temperature control'' - I live in the area. Beware tourist.

Awesomeness

By Samurai |

Come in for some brisk service but gorgeous, plentiful food. We had the noodles in soup with the shrimps which was sublime. The shrimps wrap were quite delicate and tasty. We had also fried pan noodles, one serving with shrimps and one with beef. The latter was extremely good ... Go for it :-)

Come for the food not necessarily for the service

By Feb27AD380 |

Very good value for money. I was introduced to this place by an acquaintance of mine. He said that this is where New York chefs come to eat after their shifts late at night. The prices are cheap. If you’re ever entertaining friends and family from out of town, bring them here. Or in chinatown in general. Order one item at a time. You can order more if you still feel hungry. Because if you happen to order a lot of items, be prepared to have it boxed up.

Not the same

By LC2121 |

We used to come here quite a bit growing up. We always get the same dishes over and over-- wonton noodle soup, soy sauce chicken, beef chow fun. Throughout the years the quality of it has gone done. I don't know what they did to the broth, but it has a weird taste like there were cleaning chemicals in it. It happened a few times. The beef chow fun is extremely oily with an old oil taste. I used to cook in a Chinese restaurant and I know how things work behind the scenes so no derogatory remarks. At least the bbq meats taste fine.

Local noodle deli

By Les B |

Went on a local recommendation. Only visitor everyone else locals. Very small, you get squeezed in to share tables, it was a mixture of sitting in or getting food to take. Food fantastic varied and comes quickly to the table. Would love to keep coming back best dinning experience had in New York. Was not sure what to do for orders but locals helped greatly

Very good

By GypsyTraveller94 |

Your typical fast food feeling in an Asian setting- rush to sit, rush to order, rush to get your food out. But so tasty! We had wonton soup and seafood fried noodles. So good. Our neighbors had a meat noodle dish and spare ribs that looked great. Recommend.

Cheap cheerful and delicious

By Ella N |

The food was delicious and very reasonably priced! I’d eat here again for sure! We had wonton soup and wide noodles both of which we’d highly recommend

Disappointing

By nantzbk |

I recently came here with my husband and toddler and ordered 3 dishes to share. I've been coming here since childhood, but its been a while since I returned, so I completely forgot that this establishment was cash only so my husband decided to withdraw $80 from their ATM to pay for our $48 meal. My husband put down $80 in twenties on the table to give to me and before he could fully remove his hand from the cash, our server quickly scooped it up and brought it to the register. When he returned, he gave us $12 back. We said to him, we put down $80 and he said no, you gave me $60. We went back and forth and he kept insisting that we only gave him $60. It was a short walk from the ATM to our table, so we did not drop a $20 bill, we knew for sure we put $80 down. This honestly left such a negative mark on us, I will never return and I will stop recommending this place to family and friends. Hope the $20 was worth it!

Bad Experience

By EvaZiva |

We got to our table and know one waited on us for a long time. We had to ask our waiter several times for sauces, water etc. He kept forgetting us. The owner was very rude and arrogant. When he asked my husband what we wanted to drink, and my husband said what kind of beer did he have he just took our order and left. Then he came back with a Chinese beer. The food was ok. We will not go back ever.

Real China style

By Valeria Rovellini |

It sure ain't easy to pick one of the many resaurants in Chinatown. We ended up at Noodletown trusting our LP guide. And I really wanted to trya real noodle soup, which is not easily found in Chinese reastaurants in Italy. I had a very good impression when I entered and only saw Asian faces - that's at least a sign you're not in a tourist trap. Everything is veri Asian-style: glazed ducks and porks hanging by the window, round tables you share with other guests, hot tea served instead of water. True, this is not the cleanest place on earth, staring from the menu that is stuck under a glass panel on the table. It's not very easy to order, because the staff doesn't speak good English, and I'm also not a mothertongue. I ended up with a pork noodle soup, and my husband ordered beef with rice and broccoli. I wanted dumplings in my soup but got confused by the many items on the menu. His plate arrived super quickly, my soup took longer. I loved to eat the noodle soup their way, just with sticks and a spoon. I especially liked the broth, that was slightly sweet, and the meat was super tender. My husband liked the beef and rice, but his plate was so big he could not finish it. What I liked most about this place is that I got the chance to eat some real cinese food, and at a bargain, as our bill was just 15$. The service was OK.

What happened to the Great Food that Noodletown use to serve up Years Ago?

By G E |

I have gone to. Noodletown over many, many years. My favorites had included shrimp dumpling soup, soft shell crab, etc. My friend and I dialed back on going during soft shell crab season last year since the crabs we received were small and greasy. We wondered if ownership had changed so quality had gone Down hill. Today we decided to try the shrimp dumpling soup and lo me in with roast pork. The lo mein was uneatable as they had poured an incredibly salty sauce over the noodles. I had the dumpling soup. I told my friend to dip the lomein noodles in my soup to wash the salty sauce off. My shrimp dumplings were ok but not the same that I have eaten before. This is no longer a must-go-to place. The kitchen is not the same. Now I understand why the place was so empty when we arrived at 12:30 pm.

Really tasty food!

By Jojo378 |

Me and my partner were recommended Great NY Noodletown by a tour guide so decided to pop in to grab some lunch to take out. At first glance I was a little sceptical, the place doesn’t look great and the staff weren’t particularly welcoming, but the place was rammed to assumed the food must be good and the staff are stressed. We ordered chicken and black bean with pan fried noodles and thought we’d just share the one dish between the two of us. Glad we did cuz it was a large portion! Anyway the food was gorgeous! Look this restaurant from 1 star to 4! Couldn’t give 5 as I just felt staff weren’t great and atmosphere wasnt either

Great restaurant in the heart of China Town

By Michael S |

Don't be fooled by the appearances; this restaurant has great food. All of the noodle soups are excellent; especially the mushroom and chicken. The seafood dishes are also good; especially the shrimp and lobster dishes. Staff is good; not very outgoing but will answer any questions. Don't be surprised if you end up sharing a table, especially if it's with folks that don't speak English.

Very disappointed

By Gina B |

We were looking for some good, authentic food in Chinatown and based on reviews tried this one. Who doesn’t love discovering a fantastic hole in the wall place, right? Maybe a little too authentic for us- sign on the front door gives it a B sanitary rating (we should have heeded that and never walked in!) Waitstaff was rude (maybe just quiet due to language barrier?) cans of soda were lukewarm and flies buzzing around. Microwave sitting on a shelf near kitchen entrance and bathroom where we saw (from our table) waitstaff heating up plates. As for the food, the General’s chicken was pretty good, not too spicy and not heavily breaded like the American version- would recommend that. It didn’t come with rice though. I had the Baby Pig with Rice and it was all rice and pork fat- when I actually got a bite of meat (maybe 4 in whole dish) it was good, but the thick layers of fat dominated the dish. Shrimp roll was yummy. All in all, disappointing, we wouldn’t go back again.

Old School Cantonese

By mark g |

Very authentic Cantonese dishes. Very familiar fare at fabulous prices, cash only, and BYOB. Tiny and crowded but with lots of locals. That said..I prefer the spicy cuisines of northern and western China. The food had no punch. I did enjoy the food immensely for its type.

Excellent Food

By Kostasz |

Food was really good! The place is busy all the time. Food was very good and well prepared, We had duck which was delicious and the noodles amazing!

Unpretentious delicious meal

By MissGeorgiana |

Our Airbnb host recommended this place and ti did not disappoint. They offer a big selection and everything we ordered was delicious. It was busy, but we were fortunate to get a table right away. The service was courteous and quick. A great spot to eat in Chinatown.

Great NY Noodle Twon

By Eric N |

I have been there so many times. And there is 1 consistent thing. Well actually several. 1-No English 2-Great food 3-Usually the only caucasian in the place 4-Great Food 5-#4 repeat case I love it 6-Every time I'm in NYC I no matter what will do 2 things. Great NY Noodle Town and Keens Steak. I'm not a creature of habit but you have to take your fix.

Good food but average atmosphere

By Cesar G |

Great NY Noodletown serves tasty food at very affordable prices. The flavors are authentic, and the portions are generous, making it a good option if you’re looking for a quick, inexpensive meal in Chinatown. However, the place could improve in terms of cleanliness and overall atmosphere, it’s quite basic and not the most comfortable. Still, the food makes it worth a visit if you focus on flavor over setting.

Fun and good

By Mary T |

We shared one dish and it was still more than we could eat. This is a little bitty hole in the wall but clean and the food was great. However there are 300 some restaurants just in Chinatown so just watch the health code rating and look to see if it's crowded ( always a good sign). It was strange seeing the cooked chicken(?) hanging in the window by the cooks.

Small and crowded but very good food

By Softball4ever |

I planned a day with our young adult nephews to go to the Escape Room and have lunch before. I found this place on Yelp. Their Mom was suggesting another restaurant in China Town that they had been to and really liked but I wanted to make a new experience. So we tried Great NY Noodletown and were very happy we did. First make note that they only take cash, I didn't know that in advance. Although we didn't need it there are cash machines right across the street. So we walk in and it is small and crowded but we thought if it is crowded the food must be good. They say the wait if 5 minutes, not bad. Then they ask if we wanted to sit with other people at a large table. We were like, sure why not. The menus are under glass on the table, I thought the menu would be limited to noodle dishes but was surprised to see it was a very extensive menu. The staff spoke Chinese but they understood English just fine. I ordered the vegetables with noodle soup and really enjoyed it. The only comment would be that they don't cut the vegetables to a size that I would have wanted in soup and I cannot use chop sticks but managed to use the spoon and my fingers, which didn't seem like it was a bad thing to do. My family ordered beef with broccoli on rice and beef chow fun. Both orders were larger than we expected and very tasty. The noodle soup and three other meals came out to $25 which was very reasonable if not cheep. We enjoyed the character of eating at an authentic Chinese restaurant and seeing them bringing out the cooked duck and what might have been pig on a hook and hung them by the chefs. We recommend this restaurant and would come back.

Average food with rude staff

By Angelalburch |

Visited here this afternoon with my partner. Food was okay, large portion sizes and not bad value for money. The service we received was below average and noone came to clear our plates when we were quite obviously finished. As well as this many of the staff sat down to eat for their lunch break at a table in the restaurant which was fine...except for when one of them is snorting his phlegm and spitting it into a tissue infront of paying customers. Now...when it came to paying the bill and leaving this is where they really let themselves down. We asked for the bill to which we were given and then the staff member just stood next to us whilst we were sorting our money to pay. We gave him the money and he bought the change, which my partner went to put in this pocket. Whilst doing this the staff member looked at us and tapped his fingers on the table whilst going 'tip tip tip' which I found extremely rude and completely unacceptable. I am fully aware that in the US tipping is a way of life but a tip is something you give when you feel you have received a good service. Considering the service was completely below average I don't see why we should have to tip them and we should definitely not feel MADE to do so. I would certainly not recommend this place and having just read more reviews myself it seems we are not the first and most probably wont be the last to leave a poor review.

Very disappointing

By Sue K |

We had not eaten here in many years and thought we would try it again. The ambience was hot, crowded and very loud. Either the waiter did not hear correctly or just was too rushed to listen but 2 of the 3 dishes we ordered were an approximation of what we thought we were ordering. And, what we got was okay at best. I asked for ice in the water but never got it. We have been going to another restaurant for many many years where the food and service is great. It is often crowded but never loud. We will be sticking to our favorite from now on.

Are you kidding me? The best!!

By crazytravelernyc |

Seriously yummy - the chow fun with bean sauce and the Chinese vegetables with oyster sauce were the bomb. It was two nights ago and I’m still dreaming. Also the staff was fantastic. If you know what to expect in Chinatown in terms of decor (and frankly cleanliness lol)… you will love this place.

A landmark and outstanding restaurants in NYC and Chinatown especially.

By Jan Yablow |

I have been going to New York Noodletown for 30 years or more. Went with my family a couple of weeks ago, such a great time! Fast service, really reasonable food prices and everything just so delicious. Great staff work here also for many years. Don't miss this wonderful restaurant when visiting New York or if you're in the area.

Noodletown is the ONE!

By Earthscarves |

My family has been going to Noodletown for over 30-years . My oldest daughter attended grade school a block away. But, the real tell was on a trip to Switzerland when we were on family vacation in Switzerland on a Gate One Tour (which I highly recommend) And during a group dinner at a great place we were next to a lovely retired couple and after the introductions and small talk “Fred” from Alabama just had to tell us his favorite place...and you guessed it. It was Great NY Noodletown. I think that labels it World Famous. My favorite is Bitter Melon with Beef. And of course the salted shrimp a must have. And more importantly the price is unbeatable. Enjoy

Never disappoints!!

By gold2929 |

We hadn’t been here in years and were so pleased that the food is still as delicious as we remember! We ordered soft shell crab, spareribs, vegetable dumplings, flowering chives, and wide noodles with chicken. The crab was outstanding, so we ordered a second serving. Each serving came with two crabs. If you want an unusual veggie dish, order the flowering chives! The veggie dumplings are delicate and delicious. Hands down, Great NY Noodletown is our favorite restaurant in Chinatown. Love, love, love!!

Lunchtime ripoff beware they add charges that dont belong

By matteop122 |

Im sad to write this review because i liked this place for 20 years, But my last few visits here for a year somethings changed. My last experience yesterday will be my last visit. I ordered my usuals with my young daughter. Food comes out fast i ordered a soda for my daughter. 10 min passed no soda. I asked same server reminded him he apologized tapped my shoulder and walked away thinking he was getting soda. He never returned. Bad service in my head deserves no tip. Being i never had not tipped someone i felt that at least i leave half tip i usually leave 20%. I asked for bill and he saw i left tip on table he didnt know how much as he just gave a quick stare. He added up bill and added his own tip on bill. I went to register to ask why an additional charge was on bill and she explained it was a tip. I told her that i left tip on table and to remove from my bill ahe argued. Wasnt till i elevated my voice and told her im not a tourist to take advantage of and ive been a patron for 20 years that she removed. I told her bad service bad tip and he was lucky to receive anything at all. She tried explaining at 1st that tip is obligatory and that i will report her. So please be aware oc what is on your bill as most of it is in Chinese and they can take advantage. It makes me think now as i never really paid attention to my bill details b4 on how many times they might have taken advantage before. They lost a good customer today.

A Hole-in-the-Wall with Great Food

By Alexandrasmom817 |

I never would have found this place on my own. But my Asian friend who lives in New York took me here and told me that this was Mayor Ed Koch's favorite New York restaurant -- he had seen him eating here on several occasions. And now I know why. You overlook the fluorescent lighting and the shared, crowded tables in this tiny place, because the food is amazing and inexpensive. We ordered a plate of roasted duck, chicken and pork that was so tender and juicy and there was a fantastic green sauce served with it. Wish I could have bought a jar of it to take home. We also loved the eggplant and garlic dish. It was so good that even three months later I am still thinking about it. Can't wait to return.

Timeouts must eat....

By HPH88 |

Went because timeouts website cited this as a must eat when in Chinatown. We got a table easily, food came in 10 mins but it wasnt great... dont get me wrong it wasnt bad either just medicore. The place waa full of locals so you know its legit perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. It was alao on the cheapside!

The best

By Barbara K |

We've been going to Great NY Noodletown for as long as we can remember. Can it be 40 years? It's a hole in the wall, and when busy – weekends, evenings – there is a line and a wait, both for tables and for take out. It is a small place and the turnover is pretty quick, with people sharing the big round tables. They roast and barbecue their own pork – you can see them haul the whole pig, with its super crispy crackling, from the back of the restaurant to the front – and they prepare their own chicken and duck. Everything is so absolutely fresh and succulent, a result of their making everything themselves and the constant turnover. Their specialities are these meats, noodle soups of all varieties, including excellent wonton, cheap lunches (various meats and other dishes on rice), as well as an interesting menu of casseroles, Chinese chives with duck, salt-baked squid, and much else. Glass-topped tables, fluorescent lights, it is a corner place, and it glows in the dark, the corner windows all steamed up, and the guy behind the counter wielding his cleaver in a steady rhythm. Tables for four along two walls, big circular tables in the middle. Service is typical – efficient, no nonsense, these guys have been there forever and have see it all. A mix of local Chinese clientele, New Yorkers, and tourists who managed to find their way there. It is our all time favorite for great food. Not a place to linger, but perfectly fine – we did not feel rushed, but at other times we were aware of people waiting in line.

Late Night Fix

By n8davis |

My wife and I were looking for a late night Chinese Food fix after a day around the city. We read some reviews and walked over to Great NY Noodletown. At 10 PM the place was packed with a line outside the door! I had the pan fried noodles with roasted pork. My wife had the chicken lo mein. Both were delicious and there were no leftovers. This place was legit. We'll be back next time we are in NYC.

Amazing Traditional Cantonese Rice/Noodle/Roast Meat Restaurant.

By Lawrence Ngan |

I have been visiting this place many times for a very long time and finally get to write about it. Its roast meat (pork, spare rib, duck) and chickens (steamed or soy-sauce) are excellent. The fried rice dishes, noodle bowls, and noodle dishes (soup or fried) are all good although the noodle itself is not as good and chewy (i.e., al dente) as that in Hong Kong. All dishes are executed well and are traditional old-style Cantonese dishes. Everything is made fresh except the roast meats which are made in batches. The last time I visited was around mid-night and they brought out 4 freshly done roast ducks out. They were still warm and delicious. This place opens late past mid-night to 3 or 4am depending on the day. The prices are very good. The space is tight and I believe that it is cash only. I always pay cash here.

Good wholesome Cantonese restaurant

By chilun liu |

Big portion sizes compared to the UK and prices are reasonable for Manhattan. Service is efficient and the foot arrived hot. The place is cash only, but sort of a hidden gem. The quality of the food was good and reminds me of a good quality Cantonese restaurant from back in the 90s London Chinatown. Would definitely revisit next time I'm back in New York.

Great food

By Huppim |

Friendly service and good food. Really big portions, both my and my wife's leftovers was enough for a meal the next day. Considering the size the price was really good. Only minus was the handwritten bill, which I couldn't really read, so incase service was included (couldn't really tell), we tipped twice. Even if so, it was still cheap :) It was the second best food of our trip. Recommended!

Noodle shop at the edge of Chinatown

By masachan19 |

It's on the corner of a main street near Canal Street, and there's a bus stop across the street, so I use it occasionally. It's cleaner than it used to be, and the stacks are younger. Cash only. The food is average. It's cheap.

HORRIBLE PLACE! FORCE U TO PAY 20% SERVICE CHARGE.REFUSE TO GIVE A BILL! AND IN VIOLATION OF EVERY NY STATE AND NYC sales tax laws.owner starts cursing and insulting if u ask for a bill

They open for limited seating and take out

By nylongislander2017 |

I just went there and ate inside the restaurant because there was only one table occupied. Roast pork, dumplings and soup noodles are delicious. They are very careful about observing regulations. Before letting me go inside to sit, they took my temperature and got my name and phone number just in case. If you don't want to do so, don't go there. For me, I felt safe and that they take this virus seriously. I even noticed the thorough way they sanitized the other table and chairs after the guests left. While I was there, I saw quite a busy take out business even before 12 noon, so I hope they will survive as I really like their food.

My wife loves soft shell crab/ or "On the hunt for Soft Shell crabs in Chinatown"

By arvinchin |

My wife has to have soft shell crab, so when I saw the sign on the door that it was in season, I called her and we had an order of 2 large crabs, deep fried and made better than the previous Vietnamese restaurant on Mulberry St. we ate soft shell crab in. Kind of expensive at 2 for $20, but well prepared. I know of at least 4 or 5 restaurants serving soft shell crab in Chinatown, and this one is the best so far. When s/s crab is out of season, we still come here for the oysters, another dish my wife is crazy about. The noodles are good, but they can be good elsewhere too. The restaurant is not fancy, but the food is good at reasonable prices. Late hours are an added plus. This restaurant is on our rotation list. Cash only.

Great Chinese food

Was staying in Chinatown and happened into this restaurant. Quick service, had the vegetarian dish with noodles. My date had chicken with garlic sauce. Fantastic. FYI, cash only..

Good food

By jackier1901 |

Went here on a recommendation and they had sold out of the diah i had been recommend to get. I asked the waiter what else was good, he kept walking away and told me he couldnt tell me. We ended up ordering a few bits. Portions are big, food is good. Staff are attentive to rude i cant work it out. Feels grubby and dirty inside. Not sure id go back. Certainly wouldn't na5ke a special trip to go back

Noodletastic

By Martin G |

A great spot for late night Chinese food. Always busy so prepare to wait. Authentic cuisine and atmosphere, likely to be sharing a table sonetimes but this all adds to the buzz of the place. Obviously noodles are their forte, but the dumplings are something else too. Easy to find at the entrance to China Town from the Bowery side.

Soft shelled Crab

By Arturo A C |

The title says it all. Simply the best crab i have ever had. Fried in a very flakey light tempura like batter. They also have suckling pig done in the same way. It’s not at all fancy and can be noisy but it’s still worth it.

Wonderful duck

By Samantha S |

While driving to our hotel in Chinatown I spotted this restaurant and it caught my eye because of the duck, pork and ribs hanging in the window. Definitely authentic. The location is pretty good if you’re staying in Chinatown (we stayed at the Wyndham Garden in Chinatown so needless to say we were a hop away). The building isn’t in the best shape but considering that the location is the original Chinatown it made sense. Upon entering we were immediately greeted and sat down and was given complimentary hot green tea, which I must say was delicious. The menu is easily read if you don’t read Chinese and prices were very fair. I had my heart set on the roasted Peking Duck and ordered that. It is so hard to find authentic duck in my home area. It was so delicious, buttery and perfectly cooked. The skin was chewy but so moist. The meat incredibly tender. Perfect! My husband ordered the roasted pork lo mein. Noodles were cooked as they should be, not mushy at all but held good shape when stretched. It was topped with a brown sauce that tasted earthy which he enjoyed. Vegetables were steamed/sautéed were placed under the bottom of the massive mound of noodles. Not a lot of variety of veggies but still tasty. Definitely a big portion! We also ordered the duck rolls (egg rolls). Again, the duck is phenomenal. The wraps were so thin and crispy, delicate and delectable. The only thing I would’ve liked better is if they were not fully loaded with SO much green onion. Still overall wonderful. During our meal I did feel a little rushed because one of the servers kept walking by us and kept looking to see if we were finished. After our meal, I got up to use the bathroom. Needless to say, not the cleanest but not filthy either. One major complaint I did have was when I walked out of the tiny bathroom one of the workers mopped the floor and DID NOT put up a wet floor sign and I fell. I was ok but what if it were someone elderly? Overall, food was great and when in NYC again, I will be back for more of the duck 😉

Just ok

By Chris |

We decided to try this place but it wasn't overly the best decision. We sat down and were given tea. The place seemed clean. The menus were on the table under the glass top which is a good idea as some menus which handle are very dirty with food etc. I ordered the chicken and duck rice. This didn't take overly long to come. It was quite nice not the best. There wasn't really much meat but it was nice though for what it was. The meat is on the bone and isn't de-boned which would be better as it is a bit off putting when it is still on the bone with little meat. Overall the food was ok, the portion size was good. Would say try elsewhere probably first

Authentic Chinese Cuisine

By williamd_us |

The friends I met here for lunch have gone for years and love it. I showed up ten minutes before outer agreed time and they would not let me take a table. I had to wait outside on the sidewalk till my friends arrived and then ask for a table, being told, "Look, we only have 5 tables!" Portions were a nice size and service was fast, despite the busy take-away meals being packaged at the door due to COVID.

China or NY?

By mrpatchy |

The food we ate at this place reminded me some restaurants i have been to in China many years ago. It is always so difficult to find real Chinese food outside China, but here... well, everything just delicious and super tasty.

A great place to eat

Everything a Chinatown restaurant should be: smallish, table sharing, noisy with great food and service. Had the Singapore noodles along with shrimp dumpling soup Wonderful!! Cash only.

Rude staff and worse food

By Mha crawf |

Would give 0 if I could, waited for 25 minutes for a table and a family rocked up and cut the queue infront of us and about 10 other people and got seated immediately. Guy who was seating people did not seem happy that I questioned this and he gestured me to go away. Eventually seated and took 20 minutes for anyone to come take our order after trying to catch their eye. When ordering my food the waiter left when I was mid sentence to go talk to another table. Food eventually arrived and was anything but pleasant. Every table was given orange slices after their meal, our waiter when we asked for the bill took the orange out of the fridge that we could see from our table- looked at us and then put it back in the fridge.

If you love soft shell crabs, run fast to this place before end of season and bring cash!

By nylongislander2017 |

I just came back from this restaurant. I ordered one soft shell crab and shrimp dumpling soup. My crab was big and meaty and the way their cook prepared it was out of this world -- crispy with peppery salt and green chili. I was in a fancy uptown seafood place last night, and they charged double the price and didn't even prepare it as well. The shrimp dumpling soup was very good, not sure why bad review on this. I always go there to buy roast pork and soy sauce chicken and roast duck (takeout), and they are always good. If you like pork chops, try their salt baked pork chops. Excellent and yummy, but beware there might be some fat on the edge of the chops so the meat will not be too tough.

You Gotta Eat Here!!

By Sandra K |

Visiting NYC from Calgary with my sisters and had heard great things about this little restaurant. We went there for lunch and it did not disappoint!! We had the wonton noodle soup which was delicious. The bowl was humungous as were the shrimp wontons. The seasoning in the wontons and the broth was very tasty and I don't think there was MSG in there cause I was not thirsty later - bonus!! We also had bbq pork which was so tasty that we polished off the plate even though we each had a huge bowl of wonton soup. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We loved it so much that we went back for supper that evening since it was our last day in the City!! We had wonton noodle soups again, bbq pork and roast duck. It was all delicious!! You gotta eat here!! We definitely will be when we come back to NYC!!

Bad food, bad service, not deserving of the accolades it has

By abc_at_Huntsville |

When we found out this restaurant was one of the best restaurants in Chinatown, we decided to visit around 4:30pm for an early dinner. It had a Michelin Guide recommendation, and several Zagat accolades. It seemed that it was going to be a good experience. It was far from that. We ordered the "E-Foo" noodle, one with duck, one with crab meat. The portions were very large; two people could easily share one dish. The noodles were very oily, and lacked any spices or flavor, not even scallions or garlic. It was just...oil and salt, essentially. The vegetables in the noodles were 8 inch long stalks that were not sliced, very hard to chew, and once again lacking any flavor (not even salt). The slices of duck in the duck noodle were mainly "end bits" with very little meat on it, and the crab in the crab meat noodle was crumbly and dismal in quantity. Even though we have pretty big appetites, we could not finish the food simply because it tasted so bad. The waiters did not seem to welcome our presence. While they were friendly with other customers, they were very curt with us. When we could not finish the food, the waiter cussed behind our backs, under his breath. We simply left the cash payment on the table and walked out the door, not being able to stand the terrible experience anymore. The many awards and accolades that this restaurant has received made the experience all the more disappointing. I have been to many Chinese restaurants without any awards and had a wonderful experience. Do not visit this place, as you will be very disappointed.

Good Chinatown Food - Should have warmer food

By dreamchaser2014 |

Good Chinatown Food - only complaint I had was the duck pieces on the rice were cold. Was a chilly night and would have liked it warmer. Otherwise what you expect of a good Chinatown restaurant - great food at unbelievable prices.

A standout in NY chinatown

By 234benjamin |

This place remains a top choice for Cantonese style comfort food, such as wonton noodles, roasted meats, and congee. It has been there forever and has not changed a bit, which is a good thing for comfort food. There is not much in terms of decor and the service is brutally efficient, but the food makes up for it. This is why so many chinatown locals still go there. Many tourists go too since it had been written up in restaurant guides.

Real Chinese Food!

Very small bur busy restaurant. Fast service, delicious soup. If you like Chinese food, place must to go. Affordable!

Real! Chinatown! Experience!

By Elizabeth C |

We selected this place from Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. Out of the way hole in the wall facade look to it and small inside. We took our three teenage boys in here and were literally the only non-Chinese in the entire place. ALWAYS a good sign! There are at least a hundred choices on the menu... we chose a variety, shared and had plenty left over, even with teenage boys. Try the BBQ anything, the chicken lo mien with fish sauce, the pork fried rice (REALLY good) the beef with broccoli greens, excellent. Each dish was hot, fresh, fast and seasoned well. Each was so different. Language barrier, be prepared. We sat at a communal table with no issues. Enjoyed the experience, the food, the wait staff and the smiles. Would go here again!

Lunch

By CaymanGreg |

We went here after a small dim sum for BBQ meats and had chau siu and suckling pig with fried dough - delicious. It is a typical HK style restaurant with meats in the window and you pick, sit and eat. Tea was very tasty. Service is local style - you sit, you wait but awesome! We would go here again!

Poor service, rude staff

By Anniina_1234 |

We stopped here for a late night dinner, and were disappointed. We had two different chicken dishes which both lacked flavor and were really greasy. Vegetables were ok but nothing special. The service was rude and the place was not clean. Would not go back.

Great experience!

By Freckles25000 |

My daugther and I knew nothing about this place and stumbled upon while in Chinatown. It was very crowded and they seated us at a large round table with many other locals, which we enjoyed! I saw several people come in and wanted to wait for their own table instead of sitting with "strangers". We had a great time at our community table! The food was fast and delicious! We will be back!
