Very poor service ,it took long time for simple drink order even when restaurant had very few people. Food was just ok.

Very unexpected find in East Village. Wonderful outdoor seating and a very attentive waiter. The drink and food menu is expansive and one dish/drink better than the next. Recommend r\trying a few of the small plates and one of the large plates. You will not be disappointed

I've eaten at least 40 or so NYC indian restaurants and GupShup certainly stands out amongst one of the most interesting. Highlights were the rack of lamb, lamb shank, ribs, spinach kulcha, but everything was really good. Can't wait to go back. The vibe is def more cocktail bar than family setting but nonetheless we went with 7 family members and really enjoyed the meal.

What a lovely experience—the interior is fun and cosy. The food was great—we had the chicken biryani and the pineapple tikki—wonderful. The chef came out to check on us and the staff was charming.

The food is very good (spicy), the service is friendly and efficient, and it won’t break your bank. Nice large upstairs room for larger parties. The butter chicken is the star but you could order 3-4 apps and share for dinner. Not a destination restaurant but if you are in the area, you won’t go wrong

Small plates at this place are awesome - we started with the breads and chutney (4 chutney) followed by the puchkas, bhel and guacamole. They were all excellent - the entrees included a spin on kerala beef which was pretty good. The star was the tiger prawns - very succulent and nicely flavored. The large plates are not that big - certainly not american portions so you are in good hands. We ended with dessert - malpua pancake was ok (not great like the othe rreviews) but the fig bread pudding was heavenly. We will be back!

First of all, we were running late for our reservation, I called ahead to let them know, and they could not have been kinder about it. We wanted to eat sparingly when we visited GupShup for the second time - and what we had was just perfect. Again, we decided to order the Puchkas - salmon tartare bites with wasabi sesame sauce and they were divine - so light they melt in your mouth. They serve 5 bites - I only wish they served 6 so two people could share equally. Then we ordered the butter chicken - OMG - another melt in you mouth dish with lots and lots of creamy tomato sauce to go with the chicken and the basmati rice we ordered. The whole experience was perfect. BTW - I noticed when we arrived about 5:30 the place was almost empty. By 6:15 it was packed. Be sure to make a reservation here.

Loved the food and ambiance at this very cool, happening eatery near Union Square. I showed up without a reservation and hoped that I would be able to at least have dinner at the bar. The tables were full but I was quickly seated at the bar. The bar stools were very firm and I was a bit concerned due to my broken tailbone. I started with a refreshing cocktail whose name I have promptly forgotten. Luckily, soon after I ordered, the host showed me to a table for two that had opened up. I gladly moved to the softer banquette seating. Because I was alone and wanted to try several dishes, I opted for the dishes listed on the small dish menu. The menu was very interesting with several unique drawings of vintage Indian street scenes. I decided on the crispy okra over guacamole, a side of garlic naan, the soft shell crab sixty five and the beetroot chole. The dishes exploded with flavor in my mouth. The perfectly crispy, mildly spicy okra was offset by the creamy guacamole. The beetroot was unusual and wonderful. Little balls of beetroot were served over a yogurt sauce (I believe) and some sparse greenery. The dish was mildly sweet and perfectly seasoned. The soft shell crab was perfectly cooked and lightly battered in a spicy coating and served over slices of toasted coconut. Service was good but because the dishes were spicy and the water glasses were very small, I had to keep flagging down the servers for water refills. The interior of the restaurant was very cool with an interesting, large hanging glass light fixture suspended from the second floor ceiling. All of the tables were full on the first floor. Can’t wait to visit again with friends so that I can try more wonderful dishes.

After waiting for about half an hour even after we had confirmed reservations, we were ushered into a tiny space in between two other tables next to us. The appetizers were okay but the main course was par. The multigrain nan was like leather and when we complained about it, our server, Kimberly was rude, obnoxious and showed us a huge attitude. Even when taking our initial order she was acting very weird and it felt like she did not really like serving us and would really like to serve some others. Will never come back and would recommend others to stay away from this place. Honestly I am surprised they have the rating they have. Makes me wonder.

Gupshup has a wonderful menu that is quite different from most Indian restaurant menus. It was fun deciding what we would order - with the idea of sharing everything. The waiter suggested the Puchkas - salmon tartare bites with wasabi sesame sauce and they were divine. We also had the wilted spinach with burrata - also quite good. The char-grilled octopus with baby bok choy was delicious - and quite a large portion. We took some home. The chicken tikka was among the best we've ever had - again, a very large portion so we added to our take-home. We did think the naan was a bit expensive - but one simply has to have naan with Indian food. Our only regret was that we didn't order some sort of rice - oh, well, next time. And there will be a next time for sure.

Delicious food. Excellent cocktails. We had a late reservation. Service was spot on and they didn’t rush us at all. Didn’t make us order everything up front which I hate. Very pleasant relaxing dinner in a lovely restaurant.

Staff was incredibly helpful and made great recommendations for us, and we ordered a variety of dishes. I’m not generally a fan of the “fusion” cuisine, but it really worked here, with the spices of the Subcontinent. Great decor as well—will definitely be back.

AVOID!!! Wish I could give them negative rating here! The food was super pathetic! Had ordered house special chili paneer which was nothing but 5 small cubes of paneer which was probably a month old tossed with chili sauce and some green peppers! Really? This you call a special dish? Rest all dishes were equally pathetic except butter chicken which was palatable at least! We went there on recommendation but we all were thoroughly disappointed with the quality and taste of food. Never had such a pathetic food in any Indian restaurant here in US! On top of it, they charged 20% gratuity because we were four adults and one small kid. When asked they said they consider even small kid as an adult and charge gratuity! Wow! It seems the whole world is mad which treats kids as kids but this world class restaurant considers them as adults! Forget the numbers, service charge is for providing service! Mere bringing food from kitchen and dumping on table isn’t called serving! Never served the food but ended up paying $50. Avoid at any cost!!

The food was delicious....by the time is eventually for to us. Highly recommend the chicken tikka, so much flavor. However our curly haired waitress was uninformed about the cocktail menu and food was slow to come out. As much as we love good food it’s hard to overcome this bad of service.

Family of four had evening dinner here first week of August. We ordered 3 main dishes with rice and 2 x breads with a drink each. Food was really tasty and fresh. The vibe was great and beer selection was good. Cost circa $170, so on the more expensive side versus other places in NYC available.

We ordered vada pav; kheema pav; amritsari channa tikki; lamb burger and Onion kulcha. Everything was served really fresh, hot and very well presented. We ordered a pitcher of cocktail which was strong and really good.

This was a special dinner and we were impressed with the first appetizer - the paneer roll. The next appetizer came out cold when one expected it to be piping hot. Upon sending it back we got the same dish heated in a microwave. This was extremely disappointing from a restaurant team that was rated this well. Of the four dishes we tried - two were good while the other two were way below expectation from a food truck. Hope they were just having a bad Sunday. We are not going back again when there are so many other options in NYC.

For the 2nd year in a row, my daughter chose GupShup for her birthday dinner. The servers actually remembered us from last year and made sure her saag paneer was not spicy at all this time. She had the best 7th birthday dinner , ever! The food and service remain top notch. The paneer rolls, the butter chicken wings, and the himalayan morels are still our favorites. Highly recommend and we can't wait for next year's birthday trip!

This was a very well designed restaurant. The decor outside and inside is gorgeous, modern and unique. We went on a Monday so there were limited tables due to a speed dating event upstairs and we booked last minute for 7 so we were lucky to get the table. The food was excellent. We all ordered and shared apps and the food was not super heavy. The reason why I gave it 4 for instead of 5 is because we had a wait a while to order, to bring food, to bring food to the right table, to bring more drinks. The staff were very polite but a but disorganized. When they made a mistake they of course corrected it as soon as they could. I would highly recommend this restaurant as a one of the nicest in terms of decor and food in NYC but the staff still need a bit more work.

It was my first time in New York, and the restaurant was excellent. Your staff member, Mamata, treated us very well. It was my best birthday ever.

check it! sit at the bar (for small party) and have Michael take care of you. The food is off the charts delicious and ambiance lively but relaxed. butter chicken, lamb with fried egg and buns appetizer, chutneys (ghost pepper one is ridiculous), and the sticky bun beef small plate are to die for. place is a 10 out of 10

We came here with 10 people to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday and had a great time. We had a beautiful table upstairs, which was perfect. The food and service were fantastic. We were able to try a lot of dishes and they were all amazing. A must stop if in the area!

Some of the dishes were great, especially the small plates, but overall the food experience was just ok. Expected more from this place in terms of food taste. The staff was great and the ambience nice. Worth a visit with managed expectations. Small plates we liked: chicken and goat kebabs, paneer rolls. Other items: mango chili lassi and vada pav were good Ok items: paneer burger (too bready and also somehow they added too much sauce), omelette paratha (basic boring, could’ve easily amped this up with chutneys or some fun toppings like pickled onions), pav bhaji (way way too much butter/ghee, couldn’t get a real taste of the bhaji)

The food is tops. Worth the wait. While you wait you can scout for VIPs. It was whispered in our years that the likes of Jimmy Fallon and Trevor Noah are frequent guests. It is apparently a domain of many Bollywood stars. I would suggest staying with the small plates...Here are the top 3 not to be missed 1)CRISPY OKRA & GUACAMOLE 2) GUPSHUP FRIED CHICKEN hari mirch, ginger honey 3) Ice cream Sundae *Naan and Lentil also was good. **Did I mention they have an amazing selection of single malt whiskey's

Visited for lunch recently and had the lamb chapli burger, which was probably the best 'non-traditional' burger I've ever had, matched only by the masala fries and sauce. Fantastic service throughout from all of the staff.

Very good quality and very tasty vegetarian Indian food. You need to pre-book. Vada-pav and avacado golgappa was yum.

Great spot! Very refreshing to see Indian food being presented in a modern way keeping the true flavours alive! The design and decor is beautiful, gives a lovely vibe to the place! Service was organised and well timed! Definitely coming back to try the brunch and lunch menus!

We love the food ! But service can be better !! And we have one complain please provide right serving spoon with the dish ! I ordered daal , there was no spoon with it ! Same with NALLI nihari no steak knife so it was very hard to cut the meat !! Table were very close together , we reserve the table long time back and the restaurant was not that busy and we were seated in really small table so when our food came no space even move !!

Food was excellent - the morels were outstanding, the Achari chicken very flavorful. Cocktails were ok, but next time we’ll stick to wine. Desserts - shahi tukra was awesome, kilfi faluda was tasty - but almost no faluda.

This place has great Indian food and is a great walk by meal with your family. It does not matter if you are alone of with family it is a great stop by place nearby many desert places to go afterword. The staff is kind and it is a great place to visit overall

Took long time for anyone to come to us as dinner menu doesn’t have price, then everyone on table is forced to either choose from dinner menu which is okay, but was then asked to make our starter main and even deserts choice in the beginning. Asked if we can choose the desserts later was told no. Asked for sweet lassi, said they only have mango chilli lassi (first Indian restaurant I have been to that doesn’t have plain sweet lassi), Although the taste was good, I wouldn’t say it justifies the prices charged. Overall not a good experience a lot of hype over nothing and extremely overpriced. Would not recommend.

Poor service, below average.. avoid this place unless you want to spoil your evening. Not sure if there was anything good about this restaurant

Hands down some of the best Indian Food I’ve had in the USA ! A small selection of food Menu but whatever we ordered turned out to be delicious! Gilawat Kebab - 4/5 Their take on the famous galouti kebabs , it tastes really good but they aren’t the melt in the mouth stuff that the originals are. Old Delhi Butter Chicken- 5/5 Finger-licking stuff , the creamy curry was balanced in flavors and is something that rekindles your memories of having the butter chicken in an old Delhi restaurant. Nizam’s Haleem - 5/5 The presentation deserves an applause 👏! An assortment of toppings surround the Haleem which after spending 8 years in Hyderabad, I can safely say is one of the best I’ve tasted . Has the perfect texture, spices don’t overburden your palate, the taste of ghee doesn’t impose itself on the dish ! It’s a must order here !! Indian Breads - Laccha Paratha and Butter Naan - they need to definitely improve on these ! They don’t do justice to the curries we ordered ! Now to the drinks which we ordered, Kokum Cola - 1/5 Why to even call this Kokum when you can’t taste any Kokum , more of a mojito ! The beer and IPA were ok , they should try and partner with some good local breweries to stock better quality beers ! Service was a little slow but Hey good food takes time and I had no complaints! The ambiance is great, the music is perfect and the prices which may seem a bit high are worth every penny for the food they serve.

I don’t care what other say about this Restaurant, but we just love it. They could have the worst service, the longest wait time, etc, however when the food comes out, it makes up for all. EXCELLENT AUTHENTIQUE INDIAN FLAVORS. I’m of Indian decent, eaten Indian cuisine all over the world, Indian, Trinidad, Guyana etc but this type of quality food is exceptionally. When we are in NYC we stay on Gramery Park, and this is our canteen. Great Job guys. See you again this week.

We went to an event here at GupShup, an upscale Indian cuisine, inspired by old Bombay. Still new, less than one year since they first opened their door. I was excited to see what they are all about, and sample some food. I really liked the art-y décor, and the reminiscence of the old days. Our event was held upstairs, which is much smaller than the first floor, but very nice and cozy. They had a full bar upstairs as well, which makes getting drinks easier. We got to sample handful of their offerings, such as Chicken Tikka, Cod Fish Slider, Cottage Cheese Cigar Rolls (?), and Spare Ribs. The samples were coming in quick, and we didn't really get to obtain a proper names for the items, so I might be wrong... Anyways, they were all very good! We also got to have some Naan with Butter and Garlic, and also Guacamole Bombay Tadka with Khakra Crisps. Naan was great, but the chips (or crisps) that came with it was was too thin and fragile to scoop up the guacamole… We might not have gotten loads of varieties, but the quality of the ones we received was very high. I would rather have quality than quantity. All the staffs here were really nice, they were efficient and polite. I wa a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to sample any of their unique signature cocktails, but that gives us another reason to go back to try more of their food and drinks!

My boyfriend and I went there for lunch on Sunday right after Christmas. A friend had recommended and We really love this Indian modern spot. They were very welcoming and since we weren’t familiar with the menu I asked the waitresses to recommend the dishes and drinks and we loved everything we tried. The dishes were unique, with a different spin on Indian cuisine. We ended up having 3 different dishes and 3 different cocktails lol My favorite cocktail is HOT LIKE KOHLI We also had 3 scoops ice cream for dessert and was outstanding specially the one with rose flavor. We’ll Definitely return :)

My colleagues are praising quite high about this place. It’s interiors and style is certainly different from most other Indian places. I could certainly could not try everything. With friends we did agree to order 3 items including the most expensive $46 Lamb Biryani along with Amritsari Fish and Keema. I never had Amritsari Fish on the pao bread. I guess Indian food in America is more like fusion food. The taste of fried fish are suppressed when eaten with so much bread. Biryani was quite small on rice quantity. I certainly think shredded lamb loses its charm on taste. Possibly next time I will get to try three other dishes.

GupShup, meaning gossip/chitchat in Hindi, is a colorful and authentic Indian restaurant in Gramercy Park. Diners will find many Indian customers at this place. It has many of the usual menu items such as sag paner, biryanis, naan, rotis plus special dishes. The flavor profile is spicy compared to the usual Indian place.

I cannot rave enough about this amazing place. Highly recommend it, totally exceeded our expectations. This was my husbands' first time eating Indian food and he was blown away. From the ambiance, the service (thank you to Romeo - you were amazing), the cocktails must try the Dharavi Devi, the roasted bone marrow, the lamb shank and the rack of lamb and the chutneys. Everything was fantastic. A total must go....

Was so excited to try this place and it did not disappoint. Unique cocktails paired with deliciously seasoned foods made this one of my favorite spots when i was in NYC recently. Kudos to the entire staff for excellent service and their attention to detail. The design of the space itself makes it fun to visit as well. Would definitely recommend this spot and will return the next time i'm in town.

Really had a great all around time here. Food was delicious and ambiance fun and colorful. If you love Indian food this is a win.

What an amazing meal. The best butter chicken I’ve had outside Delhi. Everything else was superb as well. We had chicken mince sheekh for starter and another thing we had was the goat rogan josh. The nans were thin and crispy. Just like we have in Indja. Can’t praise the good enough.

The moment you walk into Gupshup, you will be impressed by the ambience and decor. Look up and you’ll see a beautiful arrangement of dangling lights and just behind the staircase on the wall are neatly arranged black & white photographs. The back wall features a hand-painted tiger and Ayesha “ The Boss”. The menu is as original as the decor and features innovative Indian inspired cuisine. You’ll find a few of the classics (i.e. black dal, saag paneer, Delhi butter chicken, naan), but I highly recommend you try one of the non-classic large/small plates, chutneys or breads. My favorite: wilted spinach kulcha with burrata, gooseberry cilantro chutney, maitake mushrooms. Plan ahead and definitely make a reservation - it’s newly opened (just 45 days ago) and it is a happening place. If you are visiting NYC, add this to your itinerary.

After so much hype, went to this place and was completely disappointed. Service is terrible. Sat at the table for 20 minutes with no attention and then finally someone came by as I think he felt sorry for us. We didn’t have one dedicated server ensuring we were having a nice evening. All the dishes were a disaster. Appetizers were cold! Lamb was ok but the chicken was rubber. 3 ladies working the front desk all night…not really sure what they are doing because they certainly are not helping with making anyone feel welcome. This place is simple, awful.

Amazing Indian food!. The atmosphere is delightful and the servers are so friendly and helpful, even making us a new saag paneer when my 6 year old complained hers was too spicy. Our favorite dishes were the paneer rolls, the butter chicken wings, and the himalayan morels but really anything you order is going to be delicious.

Came here with my husband and another couple with their 6yo. We were seated upstairs which has a different vibe than downstairs. Upstairs was for larger parties and seemed less of a party atmosphere compared to downstairs. The entire venue was super cool & hip with lots of color and fun designs. The food & drinks was delicious although a little on the pricey side. For 4 adults and 1 child it came to $376 including 20% tip, which they add w/o telling you. Didn't appreciate that part especially since an unsuspecting person could or would tip twice. The waitress was good & efficient and we would definitely come back.

“ Gupshup”meaning casual talk or gossip. First of all let’s start with service - everyone was so nice and friendly. Max the bartender entertained us until we waited for our table. The staff kept apologizing to us when we had to wait long for our table but it was fine. Ambience - adorable modern Indian vibe. It was crowded so definitely make reservations Now the best part was the food: they have small and large plates and some classics for dinner. We decided to get 2 small plates and 2 classics. I love the modern Indian cuisine vibe but at the end of the day I still need my dal and my friends needs his butter chicken 😂 Paneer rolled in pesto sauce - so delicious and unique. I wish we could get more than 3 pieces though. 4/5 Butter chicken - my friend really enjoyed it. It was not in a gravy but it had all the right flavors Dal makhani - my absolute favorite dish. The dal was rich, creamy and thick like how it’s supposed to be 5/5 Saag paneer- met my saag standards 5/5 Garlic naan - this was so delicious that we ordered a bunch - soft and warm and obviously the best part. Overall experience 5/5. Can’t wait to come back #cravings IG- drfoodieee

Must try in NYC. Ambience is very 1970’s calcutta (clean and crisp decor). The ambience is really nice and so is the service. Sunday Brunch is also great.

The food still hold up here. Very innovative fusion Indian cooking. The dishes are spicy -- even the butter chicken -- but every dish scored high marks with our group of three. The breads ( were all wonderful, as were the small and large plates. We shared the lamb shoulder and one of the chicken Biryani.. Tandoori cauliflower was excellent as were the Paneer cheese rolls.

The food is good but overpriced. I liked everything we got. The dishes were unique, with a different spin on Indian cuisine. Would definitely recommend GupShup.

We were a bit underwhelmed with the food quality. The Paneer was quite chewy and not soft as it should have been. The Chola Tikki was good but the rest of the stuff was quite mediocre. The Gulab Jamuns were lukewarm and not hot. There are many better places to visit for Indian food in NYC. Note: we had only ordered Vegetarian items.

Very good service and food quality. We went when it was almost closing time and had a very nice experience. I definitely recommend the food here.

GupShup, which means "gossip" in Hindi, serves tasty and spicy Indian treats. Great breads such as staples as naan and kulcha and paneer cheese rolls. Veggie biryani was really great. Beware the dishes with ghost chilis. They are hoottt. Located in Gramercy Park close to Union Square. Outdoor dining and takeaway. Delivery through the usual services. Enjoy!

This was a surprise. Creative, interesting Indian food right in my own neighborhood. Everything was very good on the menu, as was the service. Would return in a second. I commented to my guest that this meal was better than we were going to get in India were we were traveling to in two days.

Great Indian food with a twist in a modern restaurant. We enjoyed it! The plates are quite large for European standards and we shared the dishes.

Not great. The food was average and I didn’t find the service that great either. It took a long time to get nans and the food got cold waiting for the nan. Been to lots of Indian restaurants in several cities and I definitely wouldn’t go back to Gup shup.

Not your typical “Curry Hill”-style Indian restaurant. Unexpected menu (think Gooseberry chutney) in a chic, almost club-like setting. Service was a tad scattered, however, & the volume was quite loud.

The food is average. Not much choice for vegetarians. When booking the table it should fully booked but when we landed there half the place was empty.

My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch here, it's a good scene and they play some great music as well. But the food is what puts it OTT. We had the butter chicken, so rich & tasty, spiced perfectly and served with basmati rice. Along with it, we had the chutney & naan (the cilantro & Gooseberry chutney was our fave but they were all good) and the spinach kulcha - an Indian flatbread of sorts with crisped shredded spinach and pecorino. Grab a cocktail or two, we had the jackass and the dirty pineapple. Fun times!
Overpriced, poor service, and tastless
With a very limited menu they didn't even have a vegetarian dish with pineapple and paneer available. Was told to order the paneer small plate which tasted like lasagna that had hot sauce and no flavor. Got the potatoe chick pea side plate too which cost me 2x the amount of my initial choice. The side plates were flavorless with spice (and I don't mind spice). Waiter didn't once check to see if we were set or needed another order of drinks. Overpriced and definitely not flavorful.
