Loved the food and causal environment there. Amazing hustle bustle and good food. Not anything extra ordinary but normal prices and enough quantities.

The food was authentic and pretty good but a bit too oily. The place is a real mess and not very clean at least during lunch time.

One of our daughters saw this mentioned on the World One Observatory, some foodie guy talking about his favourite places to eat! Anyway we really had missed our curry hit since being in New York City so ‘Haandi’ sounded like the place to go. No booking required (or offered 😂) just go in order your food at the counter and take a seat. Food comes out very quick, all ours was piping hot and plenty of it. Yes the surroundings aren’t top drawer like a nice Time Square restaurant but what they lose in decide is made up with how good the curry is.

Yeah it's a little messy, nothing too bad, just a busy place. $22 for two combos and two drinks. I couldn't finish it, neither could my wife. Amazing meal, great food, spicy the way I like it.

Excellent authentic food - the best that I found during my 3 week visit to the Stats. And very good value for money. The chicken dishes such as chicken korma, chicken karahi, were very tasty and well-cooked as were the kababs. The two of us shared a platter and there was some food still left over! And all this for $11!

I prefer going downstairs to the buffet room and enjoying chicken tikka masala, biryani, lamb curry, and samosas. You just walk in and if you don't mind sitting in a communal table then you just put your stuff down and go get your food. If I go alone I just go get my food, eat, and head back to work. For 10 dollars no tax, it really is a great lunch deal for your indian food fill. It's no wonder all the taxi drivers line up along the street during lunch to eat at the places on this block.

If you remember, in my previous review, I advised you to have "Paya" from Haandi. I dont know you did or not, but I was there a week ago, and Carried Out "Paya Saalan" I head more than, I supposed to take. Why ? The Title gives you the answers.

First time sampling Pakistani food and boy, was it ever good!! I ordered the spicy rice with the Tikka Masala and another ground chicken kabob, the correct name I forget. Anyway, the Naan was great, generous portions, fairly fast service and we ate for $19! That's a true NYC bargain. Definitely would return, but not with my picky eater son, who wouldn't have found a thing to eat. For kids with a more developed palate, though, lots of good choices. Husband said his meal was also really good; we both ordered the meat platter and they ha a vegetarian option, as well. Very informal dining: plastic cutlery, flimsy napkins, plastic glasses for water, real plates. Recommend!

This is a simple restaurant. The food is awesome. The owner at the counter personally advises newcomers on what to order. The food is remarkable. Service is simple but decent. Very reasonable priced and value for money. A must visit for non veggies. The best dish was the nihari which made us go again. Unforgatable experience. Caution : don't expect a star experience, as I said a simple place but with great taste on the platter.

Me and family went to this restaurant during our visit to New York. It is a cheap and average restaurant. The food taste good. If you are up for reasonable priced food on Lexington...it's the place. Interestingly, the restaurant is graded "A" by New York Government Department...

Looking for Halal in NYC. Avoid this joint. Yes, the prices are extraordinary, but they serve less than you give your loving canine friend. Lamb stew was a large ladle of brown water with a single bone floating in it..Microwaved rice was tasty, tandoori chicken dry and tasteless. Halal is served with opulence all around NYC now. Anywhere but here.

Good food but bit messy , famous with all taxi drivers in NY, Good value for money , pretty cheap. Its a small place , the food choices are visible on the counter and they microwave them. Most of the food is Fresh , Naan are baked in oven fresh I will recommend it .

Just walked in to have a cup of Tea, and when I saw totally different Dish, I felt Mouth Watering, that was Lamb Nihari. Masha Allah, I got Take-Out for 2. Oooooooooo What a wonderful taste, all Recepie were very very Right.

Haandi, a Pakistani Halal restaurant is a longtime favorite of cab drivers. It has spicier and more authenic food than Curry in a Hurry a half block away. The restaurant is open every day till 10pm. The lunch buffet all you can eat is amazing value. Open weekdays with the odd exception for bad weather and holidays. You have choices of 4-5 vegetable dishes(spinach, chickpeas, cauliflower, zucchini, cabbage most days), and 2 chicken curry dishes, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, chicken biryani rice(keep hot), white rice, nan, dal, salad bar and 1-2 deserts. Once or twice a week(Tuesdays) there's a beef curry too. The chef modifies the menu so you can eat there regularly and eat different dishes.

the only Pakistani place to serve food at 11pm at night, this was our last option. The food was quick to make it to our table, but it was COLD. the naan were cold and hard and not fresh at all. there was hardly any taste in the chicken karahi or achari chicken.

Great Food. Nice staff. Chicken Kabob Roll is delicious. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is also a great dish and like that they offer lot of vegetables. Hours are wrong. They are open 11am to 10pm. They do not close from 2:30 to 5pm. That is an error.

Very, very tasty and very cheap Indo-pakastini food. If 80% of cab drivers like it, it must be good. The taste of the food is awesome. Not very spicy. As an Indian-american and a cook , i can honestly say, whenever I come to NYC, I go to Haandi. Chicken though is fatty

You can always tell a good restaurant when it's busy and there are customers waiting for carry-out and the tables populated by folks for whom the food is part of their ethnic culture. This was no exception. Good blending of spices and flavours

if you are in the city after hours, and feel like eating indian food...here's the place to go. Even though they heat up the food in a microwave before you, it still tasted good.

This place was recommended by a taxi driver- he actually took us there some 7 years ago! We have been going there at least once a year. We were there just yesterday and realized that I never wrote a review on this fairly crowed restaurant on Lexinton Ave and 28th street in NYC. The food is very good and the price is cheap. Just go there for the food - you'll love it.

Haandi is easy to find on 3rd Ave. It's popular with the cabbies and is one of the best bargains in the city. The $8.99 meat platter gets you a choice of two meats, one veggie, rice, a small salad, and Naan. The lamb dishes are great.

Simple no frills place but the food is scrumptious if you are into spicy food. Excellent naan, kababs, biryani etc. Usually take out food from here as seating can get congested.

This place aint pretty, but the food is authentic and sublime. Hard core taxi driver lunch spot. Lamb Nihari (slow cooked for 6 hours in thick, spicy gravy) is the jewel of Pakistani/Indian cooking and a (supreme) Haandi speciality. Authentic and delicious saag, chana and roti too. And when they do the tandoori fish you can't miss it. Samosas are disappointing. Remember - like most Indian restaurants - tips always go to the boss.

The long line of Yellow Cabs parked outside Haandi tells you everything you need to know about this two-level Indian restaurant in Curry Hill. The basement is where the $10 buffet is, a 10-12 dish spread that is comfort Indian food (the biryani is a bonus) in an all-you-can-eat communal setting with all the usual Indian food choices. Great if you are hungry, have a craving for Indian food, don't want to spend a lot of money or be bothered with a menu. Clean, convenient and no-frills.

We ordered full meal with paneer curry with Biryani and naan. The food was awesome. They deliver through Uber eat at your hotel place. You can add spices on your call. Tip: Uber eat charges extra amount on weekends.

Cabbie stop with some great Desi food. Chicken Biryani, Achari chicken delicious..

The food here is very tasty. Reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. Can be a bit oily sometimes, but otherwise its very good. The place needs to be cleaned up a bit and repainted. Too many of these Indian 'fast' food restaurant look dingy and dirty. However, this place is always packed with cabbies and other folks from India, Pakistan etc. I have not tried the buffet yet...but i get takeout lunch here about twice per week. Portions are generous and woman behind the counter is friendly. Saag, Chicken Tikka, and curry etc are all very good.

If you want to eat Pakistani food in Lexington Ave area and are looking for a cheap place without ambiance or table service but just serves good quality food, then Haandi is the right place. Almost every dish is tasty ( not memorable, just good) & abundant and of course, cheap. The man behind the counter was quite pleasant.

Where else in NYC can you get a huge platter of food with two meat dishes, one veggie dish, flavored rice, bread, and salad for $8. I don't understand the other reviews. The value of the meal by itself is enough to give in 4/5 stars....the taste makes it 5/5. Not for the weak of stomach as no watered down food here !!!

This is one of the eating joints of the Pakistani taxi drivers in New York. I recommend it when you like Indian Pakistani food. The portions are huge, the quality is good and the price is rock bottom. I really liked it and I will be back to try other dishes. Don't expect any luxury or comfort, it's all about what you get in your plate and that is good.

Good food. Spicy. Close to authentic Pakistani. But seating is very tight and challenging. The lunch buffet is good if you want to stuff yourself. But the ala carte menu is where the good food is.

Was looking for a good indian place to eat out and found a whole block dedicated to it in Lexington ave. The food sure is cheap, i mean the quality. If you add a few more bucks you can get great food just few steps away in haaldi indian cuisine and many others, which we found out next day. We took the lunch buffet and we were very hungry still the food quality just was not upto it, it was almost below average. Definitely not a place which i would recommend, as there are multitudes of options few steps around it.

All foods are very tasty. And the Chicken Tikka is my favourite. And now it's time for Payaa too. Go and enjoy, you won't be disappointed.

Best meal we had in New York City and $14 for two people! There was so much that we didn't finish it all. We had sheik kebabs, and the meat platter. The platter was $7.99 and included two meat dishes one one veg dish (which the customer chooses from those on display), rice, a tandoori naan, salad and raita. Best value meal I've ever had any where. It was also the best Asian meal I've ever had in a restaurant and I've been to India and Pakistan! The lady serving us was very nice. The decor isn't great but we saw a couple come in and a party of friends. But perhaps not the the place to take someone you want to impress - ie/first date. Shame as the food is fit to serve in a palace. All the cutlery and plates are plastic and there are free jugs of cold tap water at the side of the main counter you can help yourself to. This place should not be so low in the NYC restaurant rankings.

My husband knows how to give a girl a good time! Three nights in top seats at Broadway shows then early lunch at Haandi. 7.99$for tasty authentic Punjabi vegetarian tali comprising 2 veg daal salad naan rice and raita. No alcohol and VERY basic but delicious and less than the cost of most appetisers!

Definitely caters to the Indian ,Pakistani & Bangladeshi palate! A very average and “desi” place ! Quite unkempt though. Food (vegetarian )is okay and prices quite on lower side.

Haandi Restaurant is know Bangladeshi management food taste changed The place needs to be cleaned up a bit and repainted. Too many of these Indian 'fast' food restaurant look dingy and dirty. However, ONE GOOD THING YOU PRAY Downstairs

Food is satisfsctory some of the dishes we tried were not really fresh On another day we had halwa puri which was not too bad They should invest in making the interior better as it is not very appealing to sit in

After 7 days of eating burgers, fries, veggies, pizzas and pastas I was getting tired of it. We Desis cannot live without Desi food. The aroma, taste and chillies one cannot but live without for more than a few days. So I asked my host who told me he knew, "just the place". So off we went to 113 Lexington Avenue, to a very Desi place called "Haandi". He told me this is the place where most cabbies come to have a quick meal of Biryani or Chicken Roast. I found a couple of families (all desis) sitting and enjoying food. We ordered Biryani, Chicken roast (well done), naans, cold drinks, salad, kheer, and curry. Man it was awesome. LOved the food so much that I over ate. They do also have a small hall in the lower section. The cleanliness was ok, cutlery passable, service satisfactory but the food was simply great. I went there a couple of times after that. And whenever I go back to US I am going there again.

It was a good place to eat. The food was good and spicey but the dirtiness and the way they try to push food and items to over charge you is not acceptable. I have eaten in cleaner places in slummy areas in India than this. not kidding.

It was Our First Visit After December 2019. Again it was amazing and same taste as it was 2 years ago. We had NIHARI and Chicken Boti. Chicken Boti were Juicy, Soft and Rich in Taste. We had Rus Malai also. Everything was Rich in Taste. ✔ We took out our Dinner also. Go and Try at least Once, you will not be disappointed.

If u can look past the decor n mess. You will be surprised with the quality n taste of these very authentic dishes.. Served simply with the necessities.. The steady stream of locals only prove how popular this lil restaurant is..

The food is awesome. Huge portions and modest prices. But the ambiance is non-existent and the service can be very very trying.

We were in Manhattan for one more time and this time decided to have lunch in Haandi Restaurant. The platter is well balanced and good taste.

I lived 4 years in Dubai and was used to eating excellent Indian and Pakistani food. What a great find! Just look at the satellite maps! you can see many cabs parked outside Haandi! The buffet is great, with many many items to choose from, several meats, samosa, naan, biryani, you name it! And the taste!! All for 10 dollars! When are you going to have the chance of eating great Pakistani food cooked by a Mexican? I go there at least a couple of times a week. You can eat from the buffet until 4pm. They also have a section upstairs where you can order even cheaper, for about $8 and have some kebabs.

We ate dinner here recently. We ordered the naan bread, chicken tikka, saag paneer, and rice. The food was pretty good. The food came very hot. Homestyle cooking! The portions were large. The service was good. The place is very small but very busy at night with cabbies and others. Very casual. Would return if really hungry.

Charged me $ 2:00 per Naan, gave me the Frozen Packet Naan, instead of Fresh Naan, Travelled 40 minute from NJ. your Nanchi is Off Please dont cheat with Customers

I've been here a couple of times. It's a no frills type of place that provides excellent value Indian / Pakistani food that is quite authentic. No frills because prices are dirt cheap for the Murray Hill area with menu item prices ranging from $1.50 to $10. I've tried the Chicken Biryani which comes with a simple green salad and raita (: pretty good actually :) and that's $8 (:+ $1.6 tip:). You'll need to order from the items on display rather than those on the menu list and the variety is good enough. Food quality is not great but good in terms of taste, quality and authenticity: it's the overall value for money that's really attractive. I mean you could eat well enough for $8 unless you're a very big eater. I think it's the overall value that's attracting so many locals (: although mainly of South East Asian ethnicity :) - just check out the number of taxi drivers who stop by for their meals. The biryani was good-ish, I can't rate it as the best but it's acceptably good. I've got to try some other stuff: although biryani is my benchmark, not too many restaurants get it right (: my current favorite is Karachi Classic in San Francisco :) even in the native countries of India, Pakistan etc. Staff are pleasant enough and service is very reasonable for a joint like this. I'd like to see cleaner tables though. Even though they give you plastic fork and spoon by default, they do have plastic knives available so make sure you ask if you're tackling things like meat with bone. Very good value. Good food. Recommended.

The three of us ate for 35.00 and we had 5 meat dishes, a rice dish and naan bread, and soft drinks. We ate everything and everything was good. You know a place is good when all the locals eat there. the place was jammed packed with nyc cabbies stopping in for a hearty meal. Everyone was friendly. The place is small and not fancy at all and be prepared to share table with others.

The lunch buffet from 12 to 4 is amazing. $10 all you can eat, tasty food. If you are looking for cloth napkins and fancy drinks, go somewhere else. I was in NYC for 5 days, I was at Haandi 3 times enough said.

This small place is loaded with cheap but tasty food. Their kebob, chicken curry, naan and daal was simply best in Manhattan. Everyone in Manhandle probably knows them for their cheap but quality food. I would recommend it to everyone.

I eat lunch here a couple times a week. Go downstairs for the buffet. You can eat as much as you want for ten dollars. There's a big selection of meat and veggy dishes, good naan, salad and rice. The place attracts a pretty diverse clientele - lots of taxi drivers but also people who work in the neighborhood. The owner is a nice guy too although he is usually upstairs.

The he food is not bad at all. Service has been terrible since this guy came on board, I haven’t been back for a while since I’ve noticed his nasty attitude. I went back today and was excited to see the lady who’s been working there forever who has the most welcoming vibe in the world, but he interrupted her and wanted to make my food the way his way. After objecting to what I truly wanted to get, he told me to leave if I didn’t want it that way. I will never go back there as long as he works there. We don’t bully women in this country, and hospitality is about what the client wants if it’s available to be served.

i love this restaurant. this is an authentic pakistani food. everyday there is something different. must try.

The food quality is good and cost is only 10 usd for buffet. it starts from 12noon. the restaurant serves 22 items in buffet. chicken biryani was very tasty.
Good food
I stayed for 4 days in Manhattan and this restaurant was near my hotel Food was good, specially Kofta and Paya. They also have buffett but I did not like it. Overall a good experience
