I cannot count how many times i have been to HanBat just so i can actually enjoy their delicious piping hot soondoobu jjigae and gam ja tang. Lol. Seriously. Their price for lunch special is definitely the best among other Korean restaurants. Normally those two soup based dishes are what i always order, sometimes i'll go for their Galbi, Mandoo, or fried rice if i feel like eating a lot during winter time. Love their banchans as well, always fresh and delicious. Prices might be slightly expensive than other smaller Korean joints but trust me, you might will have to take some of your orders to-go.

Korean the real thing! Amazing chicken broth and genius starters. Lovely waiters and not expensive. Will be back the next time Im in NYC for sure!

So we traipsed up and down trying to decide on a Korean restaurant we fancied - we eventually agreed on this one, mostly because of the huge menu and the cheap prices. Also impressed by the number of Koreans in there. We were astounded by the free appetisers, although some were really too spicy. The green tea was with a teabag - not what i had expected, and no refills offered. The meal itself was delicious, it was pork and glass noodles - we had both ordered the same thing and we both cleared the plates - although they were substantial portions! The staff were really helpful when I returned having lost my wallet and helped me look. Thumbs up from us!

This is a great spot! We were a family of five and visited Han Bat for dinner. We all loved the atmosphere, friendly bubbly staff and of course the delicious food! Welcome side dishes, large portions, piping hot delicious food! We really enjoyed eating here and would recommend it for a persons looking for delicious, authentic Korean food in a fun and friendly atmosphere. We loved it so much, that we are retuning there for dinner again tonight. Thank you Han Bat!

Lots of choices of traditional Korean dishes and they all looked fabulous! There are some great lunch specials Monday through Friday, but you can share a dish for lunch (and save $$) since the portions are very generous. The chef has been recognized with several awards, but the highlights on the walls were several years old, so I'm not sure if it is the same chef or not. Regardless, the food was still terrific and worth a visit!! We had one of the seafood soups and mixed meat-seafood rice dishes. It was more than enough for two!

Love bi bum bop with crispy rice in earthen bowl. There were 3 of us. One comes frequently to korea town. We share a Pancake or crepe. One of us had the flavorful tofu soup. Another table had Steak tartare which looked tasty. Good service. Well priced. Locals not tourists. Close to Macy's.

Third visit to Han Bat and am still being amazed by the high quality and absolute deliciousness of the food, and the range of the menu. The wait-staff remains patient with those of us who don't truly know what we're ordering. If I lived in NYC, I'd eat here every week. Wonderful place.

First time visiting this restaurant. Good selection of cold, hot and spicy entrees. Great staff, reasonable price and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.

We used to live down the block from this restaurant when we lived in NYC in 2002, but never made it to this great Korean restaurant until today. Everyone at our table had the Special #4 and were extremely happy with our choice. Everything came quickly and stayed HOT the entire meal in their stone pots. Highly recommended

Old establishment (over 40 years in same location). Excellent sample of kimchi that is replenished when requested prior to the meal. Changes on regular basis. Authentic food. Fresh, ample portions. Try it. You'll like it.

Always crowded should be your first positive clue. The kimchi and gratis small plate appetizers with a meal are always great and the hot vegetable gobdol with egg and spicy sauce with a Korean beer is the hot tip.

The foods are fantastic, very tasty, location is good, nice comfy restaurant too, thumbs up, I like everything about it

This is a great, authentic and inexpensive Korean restaurant. Great noodle soups for lunch or dinner. In fact, most of the customers are Korean.

Ate here at the recommendation of the hotel conscierge. The restaurant is located right next to the hotel. Great food and good prices.

This place is really excellent. If you live in SF and compare any top-rated Korean restaurants to this place, this place deserves 5 stars. I got the seafood bibimbop, and it was actually full of seafood in every bite! You go to any SF Korean restaurant (and I had the misfortune of going to a popular one in LA too), what you would get is a big bowl of rice with a few pieces of seafood sprinkled on top. Not this place. This place gives you a bowl full of seafood! Taste is great and the portion was ample. They can give more variety and tastier stuff in their small plates. But not a big deal. And I would agree the service isn't great. They didn't come back to fill my water, but I don't expect much at lower-priced restaurants. Service is fast. Best of all, they're open 24 hours which is great being that there are so many hotels around full of jet lagged travelers or late nighters.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. I cannot say Korean food is my favorite, but I have tried it a few times. After going to Han Bat, I will definitely be going there again. Can't go wrong with the seafood pancakes (even my 4 year old devoured it). My friend ordered a bunch of different plates and we all shared. The portions were abundant and the prices very reasonable.

Price is reasonable and portion is huge. Most importantly, it's delicious!!!

8/7 , encounter the Korean waitress serving us without any smile , serving us food rudely , without patience, this overtake our mood of evaluating the standard of food . Reluctantly, we still have to pay her tips .

Stopped by this restaurant next to my hotel for lunch upon my arrival in NYC. The décor was functional, if a bit dark, but the welcome as soon as I entered, and the attentiveness of the wait staff was wonderful. I ordered the Gobdol BiBim Bab, which is essentially assorted vegetables over rice and raw egg in hot stone pot. It is served with various kinds of kimchi. The food was delicious and worth the price, considering one is in the heart of NYC!

I got e coli from this place eating yook hwe here. Found out 2 1/2 weeks later after falling very ill with kidney issues. Diagnosed at the hostipital for e coli . The only time i ate raw meat was this place. Beware of this place. God knows what else they may have

Its open 24/7. The sulong tang here is second to none (sorry, mom) and everything is priced right.

Plenty of Koreans in this no frills Korean restaurant. Extensive menu; reasonable size and good food. Better still - it's open 24 hours.

NO MSG....tasted totally home food but the problem is my mom can cook better than that :p but still i liked the fact that they didnt put 2 much MSG

This was my return to Hanbatt for the third season. Food was ever great if not better. The Do-Ga-Ni-Mu-Chim, or mixed salad of boiled beef tendon was great: It is a great combination of abundant sweet scallions, lettuce, tendon, and tasty sauce. Apparently it is full of quality protein and low fat. I liked Dong Chi Mi Mag Gug Su(cold noodle in clear soup). Alcoholic drinks were on expensive sides, which was out of characteristics. This kind of dish would cost at least 60 dollars or more in Seoul, Korea. It is about 25 dollars at Hanbatt. The quantity is about twice as much as in Seoul. In addition, they bring at least 6 side dishes for free, and refill them generously. All are tasty and well made. They are going an extra mile for health-conscious clients. In lieu of a bowl of rice accompanying many dishes/soups, you can ask for Jap Gok Bap (rice mixed with beans and black rice), which is healthful. The serving staffs are fiendly. Some Korean celebrate left a written comment, saying "It is tastier (here) than in Seoul". I would agree.

We were staying next door and came to Hanbat after our evening arrival in New York because it was convenient. Although the food was delicious and very authentic, we found it to be very expensive (US$20 for a seafood pancake) - considering the many cheap and cheerful Korean restaurants in the area. The service was friendly and hospitable and the restaurant is open 24 hours. We would have returned however found other places to eat that were just as tasty at a fraction of the cost.

I love Hanbat and come here all the time for their home cooked recipes. I tend towards the Soon Dubu but have also enjoyed other dishes like Bibimbap and Galbi. Comes with the traditional and free banchan - 7 generous kinds and they often are different with each visit. I am often alone and unlike other NYC restaurants, they are not hesitant to give you a table for one. Love this place. Recommend.

it's right place in 35th near Hilton garden inn hotel. there are many different types of Korean food you can try. prices are doable & not that much noisy & kind staffs.

We were staying almost next door to Han Bat so had to give it a try. New to Korean food so very happy that there were good descriptions of the dishes. Gobdol Bi Bim Bap was excellent - marinated beef, assorted kimchi and rice with a raw egg, served in a hot stone bowl to cook the egg and keep everything hot, very tasty. Fried rice with shrimp was also excellent. Good food at very reasonable price.

As a solo diner I was ignored for the majority of my time there and when the food arrived it was practically thrown into the table without any regard. Food was OK but not worth the price. Ended up having to walk to the front desk to get my check and pay. Complete waste of money and time.

Tried this restaurant "on a lark"--i.e., no one recommended it. We were hungry, and it was convenient. Food was very tasy, prices reasonable, service quick and courteous. Populated with "locals, "always a good sign.

I selected this restaurant somewhat at random after realizing my area restaurant of choice only took cash. The dining area is very simple, nothing fancy, and a tad crowded. The wine is basically limited time "house headache red" and "house too-sweet white." The food is what you'd expect / fresh, fast and tasty in absurdly large portions. I'm glad I stopped here, though overall the experience was unremarkable.

our daughter is Korean and we would like to share with her as many Korean experiences as possible. This is one and it is fabulous. If you are looking for shiny and glitzy go somewhere else. If you want the experience of authentic Korean food and time with your family go to Han Bat and you will feel as if you dropped into Seoul.

Apart from most of the others but still part of K-town, this place is more comfortable and nicely decorated (though retro). The banchan were simpler: kimchi, cooked winter vegetables, pickles (no fish or seaweed). The soup with kimchi, pork, and tofu was well balanced and full of ingredients; other soups were also nicely varied. The seafood pancake with lots of squid was also a good balance of doughy center and crisp outer ring, and large enough for a main course. The lunch specials are always a good deal but almost all soups. I usually like to share a soup and another dish. I notice more nonAsians here. Simpler fare? Familiar Chinese ink brush drawings on the walls? Lots of plants?

To be fair I would really have to try more of the dishes on the large menu selection. Did not have the BimBimBap but the seafood pancake was excellent. The octopus in the octopus dish was tough and chewy. Side dishes were good including the Kimchi and fish cake.

Travelled to NYC with my Mum. My mum is nervous about different ethic foods but she absolutely loved this place.

My friend likes this restaurant rather than the Korean restaurants on W 32nd Street because they don't rush you out the door. You can sit a while and linger, it's a very relaxed atmosphere. We came here for a late dinner on a Friday night and shared a seafood pancake with hot tea. It comes with ban chan (side dishes) which was enough for 2 people.

Visited this restaurant on a trip to NYC and, like all restaurants, they had the sign outside advising you had to show proof of covid-19 vaccination. None of the staff asked for ours and on hindsight we really should have walked back out. This is the first time we haven't been asked and hopefully the only time. Food was nothing to write home about.

Fantastic Korean food and quick service. My only complaint is that it seemed a bit over-priced, but that is to be expected in NYC.

Leaving our hotel late one morning, we were to late to be able to get breakfast at most places, but as we walked past this place it seemed to be open - we asked the guy smoking in the doorway (our first mistake) if they were open and he said they were. We went inside and were the only ones there - they were clearly just getting started for the day. We should have taken the hint and left. Firstly, there are some positives - we saw the entire property being cleaned, including the light bulbs ... so there is an emphasis on hygiene, and the service wasn't totally hopeless ... just that the server was involved in doing other things (the daily setup). And when we ordered, the side dishes were presented very quickly ... and the food didn't take overly long to appear either. That said, the food when it did appear was awful - mine was bland, flavourless muck. Two spoonfuls of it was enough. I added salt in the hope of rescuing the dish, but alas all that made it was salty muck, so I stopped after the third spoonful. I'm perplexed by other reviews here that rave about the flavour ... maybe they are confused with the property next door (also a Korean restaurant I believe)..? The side dishes were of a normal quality - Kim Chi (etc) that at least had some taste. I ate more of the side dishes than I did my main. My partners meal was better - I tried a bit and at least it had some flavour. Perhaps someone forgot to add the flavour element to mine..? (I had a Baked Clay Pot Rice dish). We paid our bill and left to walk around the city a bit more. Alas, that wasn't the last of our dining experience - within about four hours of the meal and at almost exactly the same moment, both my partner and I were desperate to find a rest room: both of us had severe diarrea, and as we had not eaten since Han Bat, we could only conclude that we had eaten contaminated food during our meal ... most likely the side dishes, which were cold and that we had both consumed.

Han Bat has a very attentive and friendly staff and the food is 100% Korean. They have so many choices it was hard to pick. They server a selection of pickled and cured dishes as an appetizer, they were unique and spicy. Korean food is quite spicy. I had the Bimi Bop or something like that. It was quite tasty. My little girl ( broadening horizons) had the dumpling dish. She loved it. It was a new experience and I enjoyed it quite a bit. We had green tea ice cream for dessert. Overall a very nice meal and we were glad we went. I give it two thumbs up.

Service here is excellent---if you're not familiar with Korean food, the staff will take you through it and explain everything. The tables are equipped with cooktops, but the menu is large and contain a wide range of items. Highly recommended.

I was in NY to close on the sale of my apartment. After the closing my realtor invited me to lunch and asked if I liked Korean food. I replied that I was not too familiar but had tried it a couple times and it was ok for me. He took me to a street (West 53rd) where there are many such places. He said this was one of the best and is open 24 hours. The place was well appointed and the service was good enough given that the waitress did not speak the best English. Since I know nothing about Korean food he asked me if I liked to have soup for lunch and I said I did not mind. He described a number on the menu and I chose one. He then ordered one for himself. The one I chose turned out to be fine. Both soups were in fairly large bowls and full of veggies, meat, etc, enough to be full for lunch. He asked me if I liked blood sausages. I said I did. He gave me a piece from his bowl and I found it to be very good. It tastes just like a "morcilla" which is a Spanish type of blood sausage that I have had in many Hispanic restaurants. If I ever go back to that place I am certainly going to try that soup. I cannot give an idea of the cost of eating there as I did not pay but my impression of what I ordered is that while not cheap it is reasonable.

They bring several dishes to start almost enough to fill you up, so don't over order on the rest of the food. Avoid the ramen it was generic. The appetizer, pan fired tofu was the best we have had. The soft bean curd vegetable soup was very spicy almost to the point of a lack of taste. The bean curd was very nice when removed from the broth. Over all it was good but somethings were not as tasty as I hoped. It was also quite expensive.

Great appetizer selection that comes with the meals! The food was delicious and the server was very helpful. Decent prices too.

I needed a meal at midnight so this was a convenient restaurant. But the menu is unexciting and the staff are inflexible on any requests related to vegetarian needs. The meal was not exciting, basic noodles in broth with no vegetables (I had to ask twice for tofu) ran me about $ 12. Surprisingly, they do not offer any coffee. Not a place I'd recommend.

Got some takeout here one day. Food was prepared quickly, and price was not that bad. Food was ok, but I probably won't be rushing to go back any time soon.

I was looking for a nearby restaurant on a cold winter's night and tried Han Bar. I won't recommend it for the service; seems like they could organize that a bit better. The food, however, was great. Everything I tried was prepared to perfection, and if you're careful, you can eat there reasonably well.

Decent Korean food to satisfy my past-midnight hunger pangs. This restaurant is open 24-hrs. I was staying at one of the hotels nearby and this restaurant got me through very long nights while I (and my stomach) adjusted to the new time zone.

The place is simple but offers good portions of food and an efficient service. Not being familiar with korean food, I cannot assess whether the dishes are up to aficionados tasts but those were relatively decent and in line with the overall simple ambiance of the place. The service was polite and friendly when I visited as opposed to what other reviewers seem to have experienced there.

Excellent korean restaurant--very authentic (75% of the people eating lunch there were Korean--so you know its authentic!) Great Kimchi and the portions are very large. They have a very nice selection--something for everyone. Good waiters and waitresses.

Extremely good food in a traditional Korean restaurant with a nice ambiance, attentive staff, and excellent food quality. The bibimbap with beef and mixed veggies over rice in a hot stone pot is a classic standby, as is the delicious bulgogi sauteed beef.

I've never ventured past a bibimbap when it comes to Korean cuisine so I wanted to experiment. The waiters were not great with English so could not recommend anything effectively. But the meal turned out excellent regardless with very, very attentive service despite the language barrier. Meal for 2 with drinks came up 45 (inc. tips). Definitely recommend.

I had never had Korean BBQ, but was on a business trip to NY and I walked by Han Bat. I thought - why not? So I went in and was seated right away. The menu was daunting, but a friend had recommended Bulgogi, so I ordered it. Then they brought me all these little bowls of stuff. I had to ask the server to explain it all to me. I tried them all - noodles, greens, seaweed, pickled radish, jelly, chicken/potato, and kimchee. They were all delicious to me except the kimchee (but I think that's just a personal taste). Then they brought the Bulgogi (steak) and rice. I was now in heaven. It was very flavorful and tasted especially good with the side dishes. By the time my dinner was over, there was not an empty seat in the restaurant, and it was a Wednesday night. I knew my first try at Korean BBQ was a success. :)

After several trips to South Korea we have come to appreciate good Korean food and the culture and hospitality that goes with it. Unfortunately this was not to be on this occasion when we were recently in New York. The food was anything but authentic and there was absolutely no atmosphere. It was noisy, and we were rushed in, served very quickly and rushed out, and the food was almost tasteless. What made a bad evening even worse was they insisted we leave more in tips than we had already left. They actually came back to our table as we were preparing to leave and said the amount we had left wasn't enough. I know it is custom to leave tips in the US and we did, but l feel that being forced to leave more than 18% for tasteless food and bad service is insulting to diners in any country.

Give this place a go, it was packed most evenings. We only eat their once but found the food to be very well good and presented. My wife had rice and prawns (Bok Eum Bab) and i had the Bi Bim Bap a very hot stone pot with raw ingredients including an egg you mix together until cooked! You can chilli sauce to the dish which is on the table. You also get small dishes of stuff to try before your main course. They were all cold which they are meant to be but my wife and I didn't really like them. Prices in the restaurant are very cheap and we would eat here again the next time we visit.

They had decent beef dish I had last week This week I tried seafood and it is a rare ovation I leave 90 percent of my food untouched and this is one of those moments

Very nice restaurant with wide room ! Food was very good ! We ordered Kalbi (Galbi) which is ribs ! Tasted very very good ! Menu have good variety of Korean dishes ! Service is a little not kind ! But it was fast ! Prices are fairly good !

I needed a quick bite before dance class so I decided to go to Han Bat for some Soon Tofu. The food was better than a lot of places on 32nd street. The service was also very attentive, again, unlike some of the other overcrowded places in k-town. Overall I really enjoyed this quick dining experience at Han Bat and will definitely plan to go back with friends and order more food!

If you like spicy and authentic korean food this is your place. Straight forward service, with patience to explain the dishes and quick food deliviery. We tried options we never heard of and loved them. Vegetarian options are limited but delicious.

Portion size was good but food wasn't the best or tastiest. Staff were very considerate and attentive though.

I'm kind of a creature of habit and I usually get the dumplings and rice here. Amazing! And the pickled items in the kimchee are great too. If you are staying in the area and haven't had Korean food then check this place out for sure. Usually not a wait like the place next door.

Having been to only one other Korean restaurant in my life, I'll admit that I had no clue what I was ordering--nor did my husband--but it was great. Waitress was very helpful, explaining which dishes were not too spicy, yet not "boring." Very authentic cuisine, as far as I could tell. After we ordered main courses, at least 8 little dishes of appetizers appeared (kimchi, seaweed, pickles, egg, some sort of flat (black) noodles...)--all excellent. A great way for novices to experiment with new foods. Good value, by NY standards.

I went here because it was close to my hotel. Bad mistake. The restaurant was nearly empty, and I had poor service. The waiters were not attentive, and they were sitting in the corner "working." The food that came out was ok but not impressive. Skip this place and walk on over to Korea Town for real Korean food with better service.

Han Bat is one of those places i've gone time and time again.. and the rating would be higher would i have not been drinking beforehand... Yes, at 3am in the morning you can get some great food at Han Bat to cure those drinking blues.. I usually have Mandu Soup and some seafood pancake and its all yummy.. the side dishes and kimchi especially are great.. Price is reasonable.. enjoy!

My wife and I found the food to be enjoyable. The staff was pleasant and attentive. It is a great place to be with friends and family to enjoy a good meal and have a lively dinner conversation without concern of disturbing others.

Enjoyed a nice meal at Han Bat with friends recently. The seafood pancake is crispy and delicious and generous enough for five to share easily. Dumplings were browned nicely and filled with savory vegetables. The small plates were fresh and appetizing the little cucumber pickles were particularly good. I've seen other reviews comment that the food is pricey but our family style meal for five with beer came to just over $100. I'd say that's more than reasonable for a filling and flavorful meal in midtown.

This restaurant was next to our hotel and seemed quite busy, so thought we would try it out. Since this is the first time we have had this cuisine, I cannot tell you how it compares, but we did enjoy most of the meal. They give you alot of free side dishes which is nice. The entrees were served very hot. Service was adequate.

Bumped into this place when the yelp popular joint had a line. Attentive Korean service from nice elderly ladies. The usual array of picked veggies given free. Kalbi Jim is authentic & superb. Price reasonable for Manhattan. Great find!

My wife and I had dinner at Hanbat on the evening of April 19, 2015 while visiting New York City. This restaurant offers a diversity of Korean entrees at reasonable prices. The restaurant was about 50% full when we arrived shortly before 7 PM. We were promptly seated and given a menu. My wife and I ordered the dumplings, a Korean pancake, and a dish consisting of steamed rice, pork, and mixed vegetables. Like many Asian restaurants, the service is very good, as we received our orders within 10 minutes. Our order came with numerous small side dishes, which were, in general, tasty. In addition, the dumplings were outstanding, but the dish of steamed rice, pork, and vegetables was very salty and average in taste. My wife and I ate a small portion of the Korean pancake and found it to be tasty. However, we did not finish it, because we found a human hair in the pancake. We pointed this out to the waiter, so he apologized and took it away. In summary, my wife and I agreed not to return to this restaurant again.

Yammy Korean food!! Every week I go there. I love silky topu jji gae and galbi tang..yook hoe! Server are friendly !! Good side dishes what they serve before main dish. When you hang around with your friend. Catch up here!!

I'm late in writing this review after my Nov. 2019 visit but wanted to do it anyway. I wandered around Koreatown on a Friday night looking for dinner and a few other highly-rated TripAdvisor spots were far too busy and had long waiting lists. I ended up at Han Bat where I only had to wait about 10 minutes. I supposed that could have been a bad sign, but it worked out just fine for me. Food was tasty and service was good. I'd come back.

A definite must-try in the Herald Square area. Convenient to the 34th St. Metro station. Best Bim Bim Bop I've had.

I can’t get enough of the Gondola Bi Bim Bab - Assorted vegetables with kimchi and raw egg in hot stone pot. Hard to be patient while it smells so good and let the rice sizzle and continue frying on bottom so it’s crunchy - delicious! p.s. Thank you for bringing the hot tea on a cold NYC night even before I sat down - very hospitable, warm and welcoming.

A very lovely restaurant with very authentic korea food. The staff was friendly and happy to refill the side dishes. Ate there several nights after late night shopping in Times Square. Highly recommend the Korean Ginseng Chicken. I think this is the best restaurant on the amongst the others on the street.

A simple, elegant restaurant with a friendly staff and outstanding food! It's sandwiched between a number of Korean takeout places so we almost missed it. We'll be back!

We were there in two couples with two small kids and it was lovely! Very friendly staff, absolutely kids friendly, very good food. Our friends booked it in advanced otherwise I think there will be a little of wait. It was busy but not unpleasant! Typical korean food, delicious and prices: excellent for NYC!

We stayed at a hotel in Times Square and wanted some lunch. This restaurant was located a couple of doors down. It was 1:30 and just about table was taken. We took this as a good sign! The food didn’t disappoint and I ended up eating here again before I left NYC. The entrees come with free table appetizers as pictured. We order a few hot stone bowls with chicken, rice and vegetables. I would go again.

The dishes at Han Bat,which are comparable at other Korean restaurants at 32nd street, are priced substiantially lower. The Sul Long Tang at Gam Mi Ok was a lot more expensive and did not taste any better. Su yuk mu chim is a meat salad (various part of boiled meat mixed with scallion and lettuce) and is one of the best deal in NYC at 20 some dollars. It is sufficient for two or three. If you are a meat lover, you must try.

We weren't too impressed with their food except for their kimchis. The seafood hotpot was sweet and the seafood smell you know that lingers was pungent, my friend ordered this and couldn't barely eat it so I tried and agreed I felt bad since I chose the restaurant. There's 3 Korean restaurants right next to each other o maybe try the other ones and try your luck .

The seafood pancake is outstanding. Portions are generous, food is well-prepared, and the staff is attentive and friendly.

I took 5 work buddies here for dinner. I ordered beef bulgogi, as that is a good entry point into Korean food for non-Koreans. They enjoyed the sweet yet savory taste of the meat, as well as the banchan and rice. Some of my friends even liked the spicy pork BBQ platter. Somewhat of a surprise is that a couple even liked the soondae which I thought was mediocre at best. It just lacked the great flavor you expect from blood sausage. Of course, we washed our food down with some soju and Hite beer.

The food was good and tasty. The Kahlbee ribs were prepared just right. The chicken dish we chose was good also. The side dishes that come with Koreans earls provided. Nice selection of vegetables and Kim chee. The service was not that great waitress seemed reluctant to provide second helping of rice. Server was not very engaging. It is pricey.

They do not serve a bbq selection like other Korean places. No real help from the waiter on what to order, he seemed bored and tired. we finally ordered the onion chicken which was good and the bibimpap with pork which was very blunt (even with plenty of their "not hot" salsa) and was very very hot and thus we were unable to dig in for quite a while..

I have been coming here for about twenty years. What I like about this place is that it is open 24/7! The food is consistently good and the service is efficient. The tofu soup really hit the spot on a cool autumn day. The decor is nothing to write home about but the food more than made up for it!

We stayed at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn. My husband stopped in to order dinner to go. The service was excellent, the portions were generous, and every dish he tried was delicious.

My mother and I had a delicious meal here. The restaurant was conveniently located close to our hotel and we could see it was patronised by many Koreans (always a good sign!). I had the spicy tofu stew w seafood, which had a good amount and variety of shellfish; it was delicious. My mother had bi bim bap w beef, which she also liked very much. The seven pickle side dishes were an added and unexpected bonus. The atmosphere was nothing to write home about (big flat screen playing sports on silent in back), but it was a great place for a decent meal after a long day of sightseeing.

I love the seafood & tofu soup

they used to be awesome, but they are really not putting in the effort anymore.

Lots of tourists. Service was mediocre. Food was satisfactory but there is much better close-by. My wife is Korean and found the food just satisfactory. Mine was the same. Don't expect great service. I felt the meal was a bit over priced for what we got. Probably will not go back.

If this place serves typical Korean food then it it a cuisine best avoided. Most of the dishes we had were either tastless or spicy with no taste. Service was fast and efficient. If ambience means crowded and noisy then this place has ambience to spare.

I stayed three days in New York and ordered delivery to my Hotel. The speed of delivery was very fast and the food came with lots of nice side dishes and big portions!!! Fully recommend this place if you are craving for Korean food.

Food was tasty and original, good service and great location. Tip: ask for tea instead of ice water!

This place is in the Koreatown area of NYC's Herald Square, so I knew that if it's been in business this long, it had to be good. I was not disappointed, I and I brought a huge hunger with me. All of that food there is fresh, each thing tasty, and all of it came on time. The portions were pretty big, I noticed. I asked a neighboring table about some great short ribs of beef they had (L.A. Galbi), and immediately had to have them. Then I noticed on my own menu that the price was pretty high for that. I saw some noodles I wanted, the Jap Chae, and that was an appetizer, but was huge and also pricey. I had to have both though, so I did have both, and enjoyed both thoroughly. You get a bunch of food, the portions are huge here, so you could easily get an appetizer and be full. The typical dishes the menu are competitively priced though, not everything on the menu is pricey. The service is very good, the wait staff is friendly and responsive. I'll return soon with big company.

We arrived at the hotel next door to Han Bat and at the advice of the CSR we decided to try Han Bat. Only one of our party of 5 had ever tried Korean food so we all decided to give it a try. The waitress took time to explain each of the dishes then brought a sample out to make sure we liked it before ordering. After we ordered she brought an assortment of 5 small appetizers for us to try. The food was great as was the service.

The food it's nice and they serve real Corean food. Mostly of the customer are from Asia so it's a guarantee of good quality we had nr 4 and nr 34. The service wasn't impressive, they forgot one chair, not removed any dishes from table, it can be improved

This little place is fantastic! It was a completely new dining experience for my husband and nieces. They enjoyed the seafood pancake and pork dumplings. The server humored us when we ordered the bae gae tang. It was awesome! Worth the trip.

I first came here with a Korean friend and after having tried other Korean restaurants, I find myself often coming back here. The waitstaff may seem curt, but they are very nice. Just a cultural thing. Their bi bim bop is awesome; I prefer cold, but many people like the sizzling hot pot. I also love the cold noodles dish in the summer, and when with friends, we share the chap chae or kalbi – these dishes are too big to have by oneself. The restaurant is very generous with the ban chan (little appetizer dishes). I love the dried fish one, in particular.

Good Korean option with moderate (for NYC) prices. We received prompt, accommodating service with all selections appropriately seasoned (we’ve traveled in Korea). We’ve paid more for less in other Korean venues in New York. Go; you won’t be disappointed.

Wouldn't travel out of my way but conveniently located near many hotels on W34th. Food was quite nice but they only serve bibimbap at lunchtime it would appear. It's not cheap but generous serves with a a selection of kimchi to start. Staff are very efficient if not a little pushy at times.

Less crowded that it’s neighboring Korean place. It was pretty busy on Saturday afternoon. We had a good time here. Nice side dishes and traditional Korean spiced dishes.

Stopped in on way back hotel from Giants Eagles game, so glad we did. Food was explained and both my wife and I ordered different dishes. The food came quickly with a free sharing platter to start. Unbelievable taste, so fresh. If this is Korean food then our Chinese meal at home will be changing!

I was staying in the area and thought I would get an order of bulgogi to go. The price was high considering the portions and quality of the food. The other Korean restaurants in the area offer better food and pricing.

This is the restaurant in Koreatown that people go to when all the other restaurants in the area are full or have waits. The food here is average at best, but not good in reality. With Ktown prices, it's better to skip or wait in line for the other options.

This is a regular stop for us in Korea Town. The service is good, the decor is dated but cozy and they offer Bibimbop in a hot pot if you like everything to be sizzling hot. I ordered JapChae ( a clear noodle dish wish vegetables and meat ). I only saw a pork option ( no beef or chicken ). It was good and there was a generous amount of pork which is not usually the case with this dish. We ate early @5:30 and the place was about half full.

The food was good but not excellent. A little blend and for the price they charged, I expected a little bit more autheticity.

So this trip to NYC I tried two Korean restaurants, this was the other. I ordered the Beef bulgogi and have to say it's the worst beef bulgogi i've ever had!! I mean it was digusting. It was watery, and the kimchee which was with it was also horrible. Large lumpy tasteless pieces of cabbage. Definitely won't be returning. I tried another down the road which was much better. Surprised this has such great reviews. Prob the worst $22 i've ever spent at a Korean restaurant, urgh.

2 doors down from Hotel Metro where I was staying. Efficient fast service, didn't feel awckward being alone. Generous wine pours. I tried the short ribs one night and a Bibimbap another, both delicious. All came with generous helpings and lovely little side dishes. Friendly if fast service, but just right for this trip.

Simply wonderful food, cooked fresh.Everyone very attentive and helpful. A lot of city office workers were here on our visit.

Hanbat has a nice variety of dishes and I liked the small appys served to all. I did however find it difficult to select plates based on menu descriptions. We requested suggestions from the wait staff but were disappointed by their recommendations. Overpriced and under-seasoned !! Overall good food but could have used a bit more guidance of plate selection.

Food was okay. I wasn't impressed.

We went to this Han Bat because it was right next to our hotel. It turned out to be great!! Service was excellent; smiley staffs and food was really fast. All Ji gae (soups) were delicious!! The sautéed squid was amazing. Hot tea was very nice for such a cold day. It was a little bit pricey (for me as a student who live in upstate New York) but durable.

This place serves your typical Korean fare. The food is to my satisfaction, from the small dishes they serve before ordering to the main courses. Prices are reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient.

I had dinner here with folks who've lived in Korea and they were excited to try the bulgogi. It arrived looking like dog food. They were disappointed and said they were expecting the beef to be sliced strips, not ground up, the way it was. I had a squid entree which came with grocery store inguine noodles (I thought they'd be rice noodles) that was just ok. We also ordered dumplings--which were good, and the scallion pancake with seafood--which was the best thing on our table. All in all the prices werent too bad for Manhattan and the appetizers--kimchi, various pickles and tofu dishes--were awesome. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things (the bulgogi and the squid) because the place was packed with Koreans and there was a wait list for seating--lots of folks love this place.

My wife, 2 daughters (9 & 12) and I were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn two doors down and we wanted a quick meal on our first night in New York. Didn't want to search around, and luckily there are 3 Korean restaurants right right in the immediate area. We chose Hanbat based on their menu, it was around 5PM and not very busy. All the customers were Korean which was a good sign! My kids have eaten Korean food before, they are on the picky side, so we gravitated to the foods we knew we would all enjoy. Even though the place was empty, getting a server to come to our table was a bit of a challenge. Didn't seem too interested to take our order, but we managed to flag someone down. We ordered the pan fried dumplings, Bul Go Ki (sliced beef), and tofu soup. As is tradition at a Korean restaurant, they brought out the appetizers of Kim Chee, and a handful of other pickled vegetables like zucchini and lotus root. The food came out within 10 minutes which was nice. The kids liked the dumplings and beef, my wife liked the tofu, and I ate whatever others did not want. I really liked the appetizers, probably my favorite part of the meal. As we finished our meal the place became much busier, so it was difficult to flag down a server for our bill. We went up to the counter and stood there for a couple minutes and we finally got the bill. The meal was on the expensive side, but nothing too shocking for New York City, around $85 for the four of us. Definitely not the best Korean food I've ever had, but it was decent.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn next door, and having been out all day and snacking, it came to about 1am. I realized I hadn't even had a decent meal that day! I walked out the door of the hotel and placed my order. It was ready in about 10 minutes, and tasted very fresh, even though it was 1am! It wasn't THAT expensive, compared to some places I went in NYC, and they threw in a couple of extra sides (could have been because I told them I was traveling alone and was in NYC simply for the experience!)...the food was EXCELLENT, and I couldn't eat all of what they sent me back to the hotel with!

On a cold dreary wet day there is nothing like a hot pot of spicy KamJa Tang . This restaurant situated along 35th St is perhaps one of the more authentic Korean Food in New York . Service is fast , food is piping hot . A good place to come to get out of the rain or snow .

This place seemed a little tired to me. I ordered the bebimbap in a hot pot. The hot pot was insanely hot and I feared my whole meal would burn if I didn't hurry up and eat. The food tasted ok but lacked the freshness and quality I've seen at places up in Flushing.

This is an excellent Korean food in a comfortable setting that was located near our hotel. Staff was Very courteous.

The service was friendly, fast and polite. After we had ordered our food they brought a big selection of starters. When we arrived the place was almost empty but filled up while we were there, so it was very busy at lunch time. This was our first time in a Korean restaurant and I do like Japanese and Chinese food, but my seafood noodle soup wasn't my favourite, the noodles were tastless and slimy. I don't know was it because of the restaurant or because of the Korean food. I can't say as I don't have anything to compare with, but wasn't as good I expected it to be, but I would go there again to try something else from the menu.

Food was not great. We have eaten in better Korean restaurants then this one. Even the free appetisers were not great. However, the service was decent and the menu offers very authentic dishes. The place was clean. Sorry cannot recommend this restaurant as all the food was disappointing tastewise.

Went looking for a place to eat last Friday, not realizing how busy Korean area would be. This place had a shorter line. Food was just not that tasty. I ordered the fish roe soup, not realizing that they would cook it so hot that the taste was so mealy that it was all but inedible. Rest of the meal was OK--service was inattentive. Don't order anything here that requires delicate cooking. A food factory of sorts and not in a good way.

I was disappointed at another Korean restaurant in New York. This is not New York taste. If the price is high, food should taste good.

Must be good, the lines are always long. So had to try it. Excellent dishes. Bulgari galore. 5 side dishes free com o limentary. Try a noodle dish with and side. Excellent will ce again.

Gopdols are pretty good, but they put pretty much of MSG.

Ate here and the food was ok. However, they cheated with the bill. I paid usd 84,81 but the next morning on my creditcard statement I paid ten dollars extra?!? No mail and by phone they are not available. Bad place, don't go here.

Popped in here with my son on spec as it is next to our hotel, was very busy but they seated us in 5 minutes. Very fast service despite being manically busy, amazing food at a good price. My son had never tried Korean before and was reticent, but he loves it now (but needs to master chopsticks)! This is a great place to eat and I'll be back next time I am in NYC.

I went to this restaurant recently with my family. We were trying to go to the Japanese restaurant close by but they were full so we came here. For a restaurant that we randomly picked, it had amazing food, I had the Bul Go Gi and it was great. It was a bit loud, but that may just have been the table next to us (we had very noisy neighbours).

Place was packed and 75% of the patrons were Korean. Always a good sign. No MSG or additives in the food. Shared several dishes - all good. Lots of options and good service considering how busy the place was.

The kimchi is great to start which is always a good sign. The Gobdol Bibimbap (always get it with the egg) is my favorite especially on a cold day. Good Korean beer too.

After a very active day I wanted some comfort food, which for me means good Korean food...Lots of choice in NYC of course, but we were lucky in that we stayed only a scant block away from Hanbat. Highly recommended.

Very good place. Open 24h a day. Nice service. Food is fresh. Authentic Korean. We were 4 people and everybody liked what they ordered. Affordable. Will be back.

Part of the Comfort Inn and where we have breakfast as part f the hotel stay. Good food & service? We liked the $5 margaritas & happy hour treats. Just right for the quick bite.

This is a great location, easy to walk in and no wait on a Thursday night. They bring you 7 pickle plates with different items to munch on. We ordered a mix of entrees and shared them all. Good food and not too expensive

I had a beef noodle broth (don't bother in getting it) and fried rice (just an ok rice) the dishes had a good portion and the appetizers were interesting! The food was just ok, very bland, may be other dishes are better? I think it was quiet pricy for what you get. Will rather go next door to the chinese place!

Staff very questionable. The only rude experience we had whilst in NYC. Abruptly shown to seats, asked for the menu that was showing in front of the restaurant as this had something on there that we all wanted but the menu inside was different. Reluctantly gave us a different menu. Nobody was offered a drink, had to ask for this after about 20 mins, even then we were only brought 1 drink and we were a party of 5. Had to then ask for 4 more drinks. Food was brought from next door which was no issue at all, food was lovely. When we received the bill there were charges added for things we didn't ask for. Didn't want to challenge the bill as they had already been so rude, so just decided not to pay a tip (basically our tip was the things on the bill that shouldn't have been), but when the staff picked up the bill and payment it was thrown back in front of us and told we need to add a minimum 10-15% tip. Yeah, definitely wouldn't go here again or recommend it, shame as the food was nice. Found much nicer restaurants with great service for cheaper though, so a no brainer.

Took friends from Alaska there. Not a lot of Korean options up North, I guess. Went for the standard items. Pajun fish and scallion pancake, Bul go gi, Bi bim bop and fried dumplings. Those along with the table full of appetizers was a perfect amount for four people. This is a great place with a relilably good menu.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner here. They didn't skimp on portion sizes either. Very reasonably priced

The Han Bat is my favorite place in Koreatown. The food is first class. I would recommend all basic Korean traditional foods: pan jamun, jaeyook hokum, and so on. They are generous with the traditional Korean salads. There's nothing fancy about it, but everything is as it ought to be.

We went as a second option, but we were pleased about how real Korean food was, the staff it’s difficult to follow (specially if English isn’t your primary language) the noodles were great, the gyozas were just ok

(NB first time eating Korean food) The restaurant was packed with Asian guests and we were the only non-Asian group, which is a good sign and shows the food must be authentic and not westernised. You're not given any cutlery apart from a large spoon and chopsticks (perhaps available on request). It is quite cozy and features many Asian decorations. The specials were listen on the wall in Korean, so we couldn't read those, which was kind of funny. The food was amazing though, very tasty.

We visited Han Bat for a late night business dinner. The restaurant was clean, and the service was efficient. They have an extensive menu, and we selected drinks to start. For my entree, I had the beef with Chinese cabbage. The serving was a super sized bowl, and it was piping hot. I would visit again and explore some of the other menu options.

Was located next to my hotel and I am so glad it was. I had a Korean beer and ordered the beef bulgogi/rice. It came on a volcanic hot stone pot, along with kimchi and four other small dishes to accompany. I could have been in Seoul - such was the authentic taste. The decor is dated and service was a touch abrupt - but that just added to the authenticity. Paid about 35 dollars inc service, so was okay for such a flavoursome, ample portion.

What happened?! Use to come here years ago and always visited this one. So glad it was still around but their BipBimBop however good their stick-to-the-pot roasted rice is, it’s toppings failed to impress me now. Ordered the bipbimbop and I know what a good one taste like because the best Korean restaurants near here are in Flushing. Was disappointed. But still rated 3 stars for friendly exceptional service and decent spread of side dishes.

An excellent Korean restaurant probably the best one is eaten! Drip and hearty dishes. Very welcoming staff from reception to service.

About as close to Mom's cooking I think I could find! YUM

Jan Bat is a busy place and popular with locals. However it’s hard for a vegetarian or vegan to be confident that the meal served is without meat base / sauce / mix.

Last week, while visiting NYC, we were all craving Korean cuisine. We chose this place because it looked pretty good. We arrived a little before 8 15pm. We ordered by 8.30pm. At 9.15pm our waitress ( who never checked up on us during our stay) simply handed us the bill for all the food we ordered... all we had on the table was the little appy plates. We told her we haven't received our dinner. So she left. At 9.40 she returns and tells us they lost our order! Anyways her attitude changed a complete 180 degrees. First she didn't even want to look at us.. when she realized her mistake she didn't stop coming by and serving us -.- not sincere. By 10pm we had our dinners... the food was quite delicious, probably because we were starving..

We came here twice during our visit to NY, wanting to try different dishes. The hot stone bibimbap is good, the half chicken soup was delicious, but the cold noodle and beef dish was drenched in sauce with very little beef. Service is very good, the waitress even showed us how to eat and seasoned some of the dishes.

Really enjoyed two dinners at this neighborhood restaurant. They have the Hanbat noodle soup which is a clear soup, not spicy and tastes really great. Prices are reasonable, serving for two can be shared by three. Service was friendly. Great location beside Hilton garden inn, and 24 hours. Very convenient.

The foods good here, obviously being Korean not a huge veggie selection (with some things not availabe) but there are options, huge range for meet eaters, and huge portions. really good grub

I ordered food to go. Service was quick - the food was ready in 15 minutes. The restaurant seemed packed - Korean food isnt for everyone - I liked some of the dishes and did not like some of them. they have a pungent kimchi flavor in their foods. The do give small appetizers with every meal. There are tons of Korean restaurants in mid town - this was not memorable enough for me to come back.

I am a seasoned Korean foodie and stumbled upon Han Bat unexpectedly around Herald Square whilst looking for some grub. The deco feels homely whilst the staff greeted me politely upon entry. The first I thing that surprised me was the generous set of kim chi, veg and tofu starters - they were nicely done, subtle but tasty. For the main, I ordered the tofu chige which was good. However, even though I am accustomed to hot and spicy food, I found the dish to be overly spicy (note: to the cook). Overall, by NYC standards, the prices were reasonable -- with the yummy starters and the main dish, I had leftovers, and a very bloated tummy. Good place to come to if you like Korean food.

Food is reliably good. Mandoo Gui are a favorite here. Never a wait and service is great. We always make it a point of coming here when in the neighborhood.

Love coming to this restaurant. The food is simply delicious and I've found the staff to be very attentive and friendly. There's also nothing better than a hot stew in the middle of winter. One of the best Korean options in the city IMO.

This is a 24hr Korean restaurant serving fresh great value food. Just across the road from Macy's this is a must if your in New York especially if your hungry after a night on the town.

It was a cold day and we were looking for a nice warming lunch. Service is nice and quick. We both had the stone pot bibimbap and it stayed super hot. Side dishes were good too. Would defintely go back.

We dine in here last 12/20 the old woman hostess was very rude to us, not welcoming and doesn't want to be asked with questions and recommendations about their menu. She even have her both hands on her waist and kept rolling her eyes as if we are wasting her time. She once raised her voice to one of my friends when we are only asking about something. Food looked good but not appetiting. Then we decided not to tip due to poor experience and customer service, the other lady forced us to leave a 18% gratuity which we hatefully did so that we dont have to argue and just leave.

I ate twice here in one day. Wide range of side dishes which were the highlight for me. The Bulgogi was of the juicy kind. Cold noodles very filling. Staff are very polite and give fast service.

One of our close friend's took us to this restaurant, because she loves the diverse menu-not your typical chinese food. She was right! The price is also reasonable and great service.

Went for Bimbimbop on a Wednesday night around 10:30. About half full, a bit noisy but tolerable. Nice but usual selection of little tasty samplings (kimchee, seaweed, pickles, etc) were presented upon seating. Bimbimbop was good, but average. Certainly better than the place next door. I was able to get that desirable crispiness where the rice hits the super hot bowl by adding soy. But some places give you that with tastier options than plain soy. I would go back. Not the best Korean I've ever had but certainly OK. $30 for dinner portion Bimbimbop, an imported beer, and tip.
Awesome food
Great place to meet friends or business assocaites for lunch in a convenient midtown location. Make reservations as it is crowded at lunch. Be sure to have the stone-pot bibimbop
