We had terrific visits at Hawksmoor in London (two of their locations) previously and NYC did not disappoint. They had excellent cuts of beef which allowed for table sharing. The chateaubriand in particular was wonderful. Scallops appetizer and sticky toffee pudding dessert were both excellent. The dining room was beautiful and the volume was moderate compared to other peer steakhouses which are often very loud. Service was spot on. The only chit was the wine list was a bit limited. Will definitely return.

Overall a fantastic experience. Highly recommend the charcoal roasted scallops, Maine lobster, and Fillet (with Peppercorn sauce). Cocktails are also excellent (Grapefruit Picador is the best). The historic building makes the dining experience feel even more special. Big thank you to the guest relations manager Kendra for her professionalism and gracious hospitality. We live just around the corner from the restaurant and will be back often!

Absolutely fabulous! We were in NYC visiting friends and had dinner here 10/28/23. From the moment you enter it is impressive, elegant, classy, relaxing, and fantastic. The staff was great from hostess, bar staff, waiter, and the entire crew. Drink selection new, out of the box, inventive, and very good. WE sat at the bar on arrival because we were about 30 minutes early and wanted to check the bar scene out. Staff came and got us when our table was ready. The place is history, beautiful, comfortable and classy. Everything from our appetizers, wine, food, and dessert was truly enjoyable and fantastic. We try a new high-end steakhouse each time we visit and I will put Hawksmoor as first and maybe the only one we will treat ourselves to on return visits to NYC. Just truly a great evening of friends, drinks, and food. If you are in NYC and wanting a high-end steakhouse you must give them a try. I can't wait for our next visit and meal at Hawksmoor!

Visited on business with 2 others. We had oysters and bone marrow starters, 34oz ChateauBriand steak with 4 sides. Had a couple of beers and some wine. Had one desert each and one to share. Absolutely wonderful probably the best steak I've had in the city. Service brilliant ambience perfect I think it used to be a bank. The steak cuts are on a blackboard and are crossed off as they are ordered so you can see what is available. Not cheap but fabulous meal all round !

We chose this place because it was nearest to an event we were going to. It was such an unexpected delight. We sat at the bar - the food was delicious - the atmosphere was completely buzzing and the experience was rounded out by fantastic service from Keeley! We will definitely be back.

I was taken by my children for my birthday to Hawksmoor NYC as a surprise. The entrance was impressive and the staff sweet when we arrived . The server was a touch surly and robotic as if he didn’t want to be there. He gave us advice about what cuts of meat and amount to order. We had drinks and when the food came it looked quite inviting. We asked for our chateaubriand to be medium and unfortunately the edges were well done and a bit chewy, the pieces that were cooked as we asked, was delicious. I advised our server and he went to another member of staff who came over and told us that it’s “difficult” to cook this cut of meat medium all the way through because if it’s shape, which I found quite insulting. She clearly judged a book by its cover. They also brought us cold fries, unseasoned creamed spinach and cold Bernaise sauce. I asked for another sauce he told me it couldn’t be hotter or it would split, but that’s if it was reheated, not fresh, which is what I expected. I decided not to make a fuss as it was my birthday and I didn’t want any arguing. My daughter, who is in the catering hospitality business and discreetly told them( away from me) the we had been to the London restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and was disappointed this wasn’t the same. Give them their dues they were very apologetic and discounted the areas where they had fallen short. Whist it was a nice gesture I We would have preferred a better meal

As we are from Wales we decided to make reservations at Hawksmoor NYC as the owners are also Welsh and we have eaten at many of the best steakhouses in the city previously.. we wanted to give this place a bit of support from home as it’s a young steakhouse in the city, the place itself is beautiful and located in the equally beautiful area of Gramercy Park. The food was superb, from the starter through to dessert! The steak (New York strip) was cooked and seasoned to perfection and not a bit was wasted, the wine list was excellent and the atmosphere was very relaxed. What really made our visit special was our server Rob. If your lucky enough to have him serve you, you won’t be disappointed, he knew his stuff around the menu options and was knowledgable in the history of the steakhouse which was fascinating, he made us feel very welcome and was a pleasure to talk with him.. a real asset to the restaurant! I can’t wait to go back, thank you for the best steak I have had in NYC!!

Absolutely beautiful. Service was amazing, food was amazing and was just such a wonderful place. Only this is that is was so loud in there which made it hard for us to chatter and hear each other. But I would really recommend!

Had an underwhelming experience here this past Saturday evening for dinner. Had prior reservations so we were seated right away—it’s a nice ambiance and has an energetic vibe. Food was MEHHH. Server gave us Bread and Butter—which was not complimentary and we were charged $5. The Roasted Bone Marrow was loaded with way too much cooked onions, and it barely had any actual bone marrow underneath—would NOT recommend this dish. The Ash-Baked Beets were good. Both our steaks, the 14 oz. Ribeye ($70) and 14 oz. Strip ($63) were not well flavored, was super bland—ordered medium cooked and it was still so dry. Believe it or not, the sides were actually better than the steak—Mash & Gravy, Creamed Spinach and Macaroni & Cheese. For dessert, we tried the Peanut Butter Louis, that was okay. Overall, I would not come back here for the food.

We eat at a lot of top end restaurants and choose this one after much research. Apparently they cook each cut of steak each day and taste it for quality control. This clearly couldn’t have been the case on the day my husband and I ate there! $160 for a sharing steak which was tough and about 40% inedible hard white fat. Very underwhelming for what is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant. Fries- very thin and hard. All dishes we tried were way below average for this kind of establishment. Staff were scruffy and didn’t seem like they could be bothered. No happy smiling faces here! Toilets were disgusting, over flowing trash cans, urine on floor, toilet seats dirty. Over rated, over priced and so disappointing. The one good thing was the bar staff- they were very friendly and helpful. Forget the rest!

Although I have been to two of the Hawksmoors in London, I will refrain from making comparisons. That does not defer from the fact this is a terrific restaurant. With a bar up front and a magnificent main hall with special nooks attached, it makes an impressive first impression. Watching the bar men at work, confirms this is a serious place that cares about details and seeks perfection. All is not perfect, but close to it. We had a great table in the main hall, ordered drinks (great cocktails, icy cold, also wonderful non-alcoholic drinks) and several plates of oysters. All were terrific, especially the Scotch Bonnet dressed oysters. We went on to appetizers. The steak tartare was a bit different, but delicious. You cannot miss with the scallops, bone marrow or the beets as well. We ordered several steaks and enjoyed the "grass finished" bone in chop the best. Sides didn't miss either, especially the creamed spinach and the fries. If there was anything less than sterling it was the service. No major gaffs, but it was a bit slow and a notch below expectations for such a restaurant of this level. Still, we were all hard pressed to find any real criticisms. A day later, I still have a bit of a glow as a result of our visit. We are happy that Hawksmoor has crossed the "pond" and it should settle in as one of the best in the city.

From the gorgeous interior to the amazing steaks and excellent wine this is a seriously good steakhouse. Only minor issue was the initially appointed table being too small for three diners - soon sorted without any fuss. Food and service unbeatable.

We visited Hawksmoor NYC when in New York City. The staff were so pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. Our special occasion was noted and extra efforts were definitely made to make the visit memorable. The food tasted lovely although we did have an issue on our visit. I got in touch with Jack H, general manager. Jack’s understanding and level of customer service was something I have never experienced in my life. I was blown away by the kindness and compassion shown by an individual. Thank you to Jack and his pure kindhearted nature I felt as though I had been listened to, he really has instilled the values that Hawksmoor strive to provide. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a to higher end steakhouse, with seafood options, with excellent service. Groups are typically served family style for sides, but there is always plenty of food. It is very loud at peak meal times in the main dining area, but we have been here twice now with the second time in a small private room (which was much better for conversation). Priced accordingly for the type and style of restaurant, but everything was prepared as requested and with special requests easily accommodated.

In my mind stake houses are either average good or very good. Never are they excellent. Hawksmoor is excellent. The steaks are not only tender, but they are filled with flavor. The chare is amazing. We had the filet mignon, among other cuts. The vegetables, spinach, French fries and Brussel sprouts were all very good. The Myer Lemon desert was tart and very nice. There is a wide variety of whiskeys, ports, and after dinner cocktails. The restaurant is beautiful too. Dinner for four was $550 with three beers and one cocktail, tax and tip.

This restaurant has nothing to really recommend it and frankly it’s a bit of a ripoff. We ordered and paid for a 32oz steak- which their gimmick is you pay by the ounce and you pay handily- I cook a lot and grill lots of giant steaks - trust me this was no 32 ounces of steak - but putting that aside, part of this 32 ounces that this fancy steak restaurant served had huge pieces of nothing but fat! Who serves that? We did point it out to our server whose only response was to shrug his shoulders and basically have you think that this was just part of this steak that a kitchen couldn’t do anything about. The steak was tough and truly not great meat and poorly butchered even if one could quarrel with my assessment of whether it not it was 32 ounces, if you are selling by the ounce you should not be plating a steak with 2-3 ounces of nothing but inedible fat globules. We started with the scallops - nothing special , we shared the two salads - the caesar and the bitter which is endive and radicchio - the Caesar was bland - the Bitter much better and I would recommend that The sides - almost raw brussel sprouts with chestnuts and bacon- good flavor not properly cooked to say the least, the creamed spinach was marred by a very very heavy hand with rosemary which over powered the dish, the mashed potatoes suffered from a lack of salt , but of course that is easily remedied, the roasted mushrooms were very good. But one of the most disturbing things that I didn’t want to make a thing of is their adding a “ donation” of only dollar on your bill to meals on wheels - an excellent charity by the way that I support very much with my own checkbook and don’t need the owners of Hawksmoor making donations with my money AND THEY DONT ASK its just on your bill These corporate owners can donate their own money to whomever they choose but this practice is not acceptable to me. Of course, if that were the only thing wrong here - I would consider returning - but if you want good steak and sides and an approachable wine list - don’t go here. One last thing- when you try to get a reservation- it’s very hard - we snagged a 6:45 reservation- we left about 8:45 and the restaurant was never full -

Great restaurant with great atmosphere. Food delicious and service attentive but not smothering- will definitely return.

Smallest martini I’ve ever had…at full price. Not happy! Beef was OK but everything else (apps, sides, desserts etc) is on the smaller side when compared to other restaurants. Definitely not to share. So you end up spending way more than at other steakhouses. And it really is not worth it. So go to Keens, Peter Luger, etc. You will eat better and spend less. Oh! And the acoustics at the place are horrendous; you have to yell to your companions

Buyers beware read the fine print and do not give them a deposit. It's not a good restaurant to bring business clients to.

We love Hawksmoor in both the UK and now NYC. The steak is a different texture and great. Loved the fries, drinks and service, especially in the bar. The next night we visited our regular Wolgang's. That steak had a much different taste but was again great. we love the room and the local crowd and the service is great, (same manager there every time). They had a birthday table for 40 in the centre but did not miss a beat serving us. Bottom line the room is better at Wolfgang's but the fries and Cherry Negroni are tops at Hawksmoor. Both are great

I really wanted to like this restaurant after watching the video of the chef. We had party of 4 and one of our guests was late due to late arriving flight. Three of us ordered cocktails, wine and appetizers. But just before the 4th guest arrived, a maitre d arrived to tell us that we’d have to leave by 8:45 (reservation was for 6:30 and 4th guest arrived around 7:15-7:30). I find this to be very disconcerting…time limit for a reservation?? Even during Covid it’s poor business practice but with Covid essentially behind us, there’s NEVER a reason to explicitly tell dining guests that they have to be out at a certain time. I didn’t think they’d actually try to enforce it…but come the appointEd time they asked us to move to the bar. A restaurant never needs to handle it this way. The servers generally can control the timing by serving your food faster. Here there was a large time gap between courses. At any rate, I suppose gone are the days of the customer always being right. Now it’s all about turning tables…in other words, it’s all about the money, which has become paramount to customer experience and satisfaction. On to the food. Steaks were decent but not great. Lobster app was excellent. And sticky toffee for dessert was also very good. Abd to the restaurant’ s credit, they comped us the desserts. Overall experience…Ruined the night for me.

My spouse and I took a family friend to Hawksmoor to celebrate the successful conclusion of his summer job. We have been to Hawksmoor several times and raved about it to our young friend so he was very excited to go there for dinner. The three of us ordered different cuts of steaks, all medium rare. Our friend's steak was very rare and our steaks were over-cooked. My husband and I were headed out of town early the next morning so we did not ask that our steaks be sent back, as we did not want to wait for them, we only requested that our friend's steak be put back on the grill for a few minutes. IDK if it was the Manager with whom we spoke but he insisted on redoing all three steaks and promised a speedy return. Not only were all three steaks replaced, speedily and exactly as ordered, but we were given all the steak sauces even though we had only ordered one! The meal was amazing. The service was excellent. The handling of the situation was brilliant! Very appreciative.

Food nothing more than mediocre ash beets salad tasteless, Cajun belly of pork tasteless fatty and chewy needed crispin up and more flavor, chips we’re supposed to be fat steak fries but came out skinny French fries sharing steak was rib eye chop 36oz Asked for medium could have been rare got a third rate steak again very fatty and not a lot of edible meat to talk off had better steaks at home Staff were dreadful in attitude and service and there is no dress code you didn’t know who the staff were they looked like they had just come out of a zombie movie or homeless given a job at the last minute disgusting for a 5 star top restaurant charging Ludicrous amounts terrible waste of time and money and the toilets ( DISGUSTING) I’m in shock with a nice bottle of wine cost us $450.00 for 2 that’s without a tip because we didn’t leave one Good luck

I was on holiday in NYC, and on a dreary and very wet Sunday (3rd Dec) - felt like a taste of home. Having visited previously the Manchester Hawksmoor, I knew in general that it would be a welcoming place, and I had always wanted to have their Sunday Roast. So I put a quick booking in for the Sunday Roast. On arrival I was shown to the bar area, and as I was solo dining, I decided to sit at the bar, which was no problem. I ordered the Sour Cherry Negroni as an aperitif which is the perfect start to a meal, having previously had this at the Manchester restaurant, and put my order in for the Sunday Roast. You were given the option of whether you wanted the beef pink or well done. As I am not a heathen I of course said pink. Shortly after ordering the Roast arrived. It looked great, with the beef being perfectly pink. The most surprising part was that the vegetables on the plate were excellent and the cabbage worked perfectly well as a mop for the gravy. The roasted shallot also added a great flavour to the plate. Yorkshire pudding wise, as good as any I have had in the UK, so props to the chef for that. The only disappointment were the roasties. Far too big, dense and not crispy enough. They needed to be halved across the middle, done with a longer par-boil before being chuffed up and roasted in the hot fat. It seemed a schoolboy error for an experienced restaurant such as Hawksmoor. Also, as a small niggle, the gravy was lighter in colour and lacking the deep flavour I would have expected and whilst nice, could have been so much better. After finishing the roast, I was tempted to have the Sticky Toffee Pudding, and it did not disappoint. Everything you would expect from such a well established classic. I just wish the quenelle of milk ice cream was a little bigger - as you want to have it as a counterpoint to all of the pudding - but there just isn't quite enough ice cream for that. All in all though, an excellent lunch and if you crave a taste of home (if from the UK) or just want to experience a classic Sunday Roast (if an American) - then I cannot rate this place higher as probably the only place in NYC to get a proper one. Cannot comment on what the steaks here are like - but if it is anything like the Manchester restaurant, then they will be excellent too. Cheers.

Good service and also quality of food. Expensive but by NY standards. Only drawback: the place is very noisy and it is difficult to speak

Amazing steak. The lemon bomb was the best dessert I’ve ever had. They were sensitive to my gluten allergy which made me feel comfortable in their menu.

A friend saw it highlighted on a show recently. The bar was hopping. The dining room, which is in an attractive old room with a vaulted ceiling was packed and noisy. The waitress was very responsive and lovely. I had the Tomato and Whipped Feta Salad and the Veal Chop topped with Fried Oysters and a Fried Egg. Both were very good. But a bit pricey at $150 pp with a cocktail and a glass of wine.

Wow! Yes, the ceiling is beautiful, but the food and service is excellent! We had Chateaubriand and it was perfect! The server @Adam was absolutely wonderful and our sommelier understood very well what we were looking for 👍. We have been to many high end steakhouses in New York, but this was excellent! We will for sure go back next time we visit NYC .

Booked a table for two on 20th Oct for me and my fiancée who were on vacation. I have been to the London restaurants many times and always had a fantastic meal, great service and left looking forward to going back… sadly not so in NYC. We were seated in time and the waiter came and introduced themselves, a drinks order was taken (after they’d ignored a special request sent in well in advance) the drinks took 15 minutes to arrive and then they took our food order. Entrees were nice and arrived pretty promptly, however the main ordered was a 30oz Porterhouse to share ordered med/rare. What arrived about an hour and ten mins later was a 32oz steak (they didn’t check that was ok but still charged for the extra weight) cooked medium, the sides were all nice enough and the steak was eaten as by the time it arrived I wanted to eat my own arm I was that hungry. The waiter apologised as it was busy but ultimately the place has been open long enough, you know your bookings and should staff for it. I don’t mind paying $300 for a meal if it’s good - this wasn’t. I was then asked to email the managers at the restaurant who would look into it and get back to me - well I did email them and they just ignored me. Suffice to say I’d recommend Hawksmoor in London, particularly Air St. However if visiting NYC avoid it like the plague and go elsewhere.

We’re not fond of steakhouses, however, for my wife’s birthday, we decided to try the award winning Hawksmoor, a British steakhouse, by recommendation of Eater. It was far beyond our expectations. The cocktail bar is outstanding with new twists on old world drinks from by gone eras, as well as the classics. They had 20 plus types of cocktails and this sure kept us thirsty. The sophisticated atmosphere brings you into another era with the reimagining of the historic New York United Charities Building. We ordered the chateaubriand, along with pop-overs, steak tartare, roasted veg and sautéed spinach. Everything was amazing and flavorful. We certainly would recommend this amazing steakhouse for your next occasion.

I am a regular visitor to the Hawksmoor's in London and while in NYC I thought I would treat myself to a nice steak. I always order the Ribeye so thought this would be a safe bet. Unfortunately, it was the worst steak I have ever had in a restaurant. The ribeye was very thin and had been burnt to a crisp on the outside. The steak was cooked medium rare on the inside but all you could taste was the bitter charred sear. Felt like it was cooked over direct fire rather than hot embers. The reservation was early so maybe they have not got the grill up to temp. The wine, service and sides were good but the whole experience was ruined by the steak. I had just flown in from London, so being tired and annoyed by this experience, I left half my steak and sides, paid the cheque and left. Luckily, I had a much better experience at Keens a few nights later. Hawksmoor NYC need to work on their quality control if they are going to provide the true English steakhouse experience.

I really like the vibe here but if you’re not careful, the bill may surprise you because after a night of appetizer, main, and dessert plus cocktails, but bill came to over $300 a person. The desserts are quite unique and I will probably try them all and then stop on my future visits to only ordering steak and cocktails which is what they do best anyway. The appetizers other than lobster and oysters are total misses. I think the bar would be more comfortable if they have a foot rest,

We went on Easter Sunday for the traditional English Sunday Roast. It was spectacular, the beef perfectly cooked, the roast potatoes also perfect, browned and crispy outside, fluffy inside and the Yorkshire pudding was enormous and delicious. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and all was served with a delicious bone marrow gravy. Desert was also delicious, while one of my friends had the traditional sticky toffee pudding, which was diecious, I opted for the vanilla rice pudding served with rhubarb compote, it was simply divine and wonderfully refreshing, the perfect compliment to a big meal. The staff was also very attentive without being overbearing, I shall return.

It was unfortunately too loud, you can't even have a discussion with someone sitting across from you. The rump steak was ok, nothing special. The appetizers were pretty good though.

Noisy, really really loud - acoustics of the room mean it gets really noisy, couldn’t hear each other across the table and my ears were ringing by the end of the night. The food was good, steaks were great. However wouldn’t return due to the noise.

I have eaten at Hawksmoor restaurants in London & have always been impressed by the quality of the food & service. To open a steak restaurant in New York is a quite a challenge but having read some of the reviews in New York papers it seems that they been more than justified in taking the risk and as I was there with my daughter we felt we must see for ourselves. It was a wonderful meal. The restaurant is large with dark wooden panels on the walls and to the left as you walk in was the the open kitchen. We started with a couple of G&Ts with some bread & butter. The menu is very similar to that in the UK with different cuts of meat being available in different weights either to eat individually or to share around the table. After a starter of the berkshire pork belly ribs (excellent) we decided to order a 36 oz bone rib steak also to share with side orders of triple cooked chips & roast carrots. The steak was excellent, beautifully cooked medium rare and with superb chips & carrots it really was a great main course. Although we struggled to finish all of the main course we decided to share a sticky toffee pudding for dessert - probably one step too far. The wine list is extensive and we chose a Barbera which was reasonably priced and we both loved it. The service was excellent throughout and there were a couple of senior staff over from the UK to make sure everything ran smoothly. It was an excellent meal

I had a thoroughly disappointing experience at this steakhouse, and I can't recommend it to anyone. From the moment I walked in, it felt like a letdown, and unfortunately, the food, service and leaky restrooms only confirmed my growing disappointment. The main issue was the steak—I ordered a ribeye, but what arrived was clearly a strip steak, missing the rib cap that defines a true ribeye. I brought this up with the server, and he rebuffed it as a “confusion”, a response that is unhelpful and borderline condescending. When I escalated the issue to the manager, it was even worse—both the server and manager seemed oblivious to the fact that they had served me the wrong cut of meat. Why am I paying for a ribeye when it’s CLEARLY missing the rib cap!! Their dismissive attitude made the situation even more frustrating. To add insult to injury, the service was inconsistent. Toward the end of the meal, they switched waiters, which felt like an admission that they had underdelivered. This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner, but it ended on a sour note. In fact, this was the first time I've ever sent a steak back, which speaks volumes about how bad the experience was. If you're in New York looking for a great steakhouse, look elsewhere. There are plenty of other options that are well worth your time and money. This place simply doesn't live up to its billing, and I regret wasting my evening here.

When the vegetables are the highlight of the meal you knew you’re in trouble when it’s a steak house. The Rump Steak (over cooked) and the Filet Mignon looked almost alike. A hung of meat on a white plate, not even a sprig of parsley as garnish. The quality of meat was average at best. Think grocery store steaks. The topper was charging $8.00 for a tiny serving of hollandaise sauce which was bland, that and the $5.00 charge for bread! The interior which is lovely is as loud as a train station. To end, their much touted Martinis come in a tumble size glass and they charge $20. Never more…….

It's a fantastic Sunday dinner, as a Yorkshire man I felt they had done justice to the Yorkshire puddings and the gravy. I will definitely recommend this to any Sunday dinner lovers. (The Bloody Mary was also one of the best I've ever had.)

We've been to Hawksmoor many times in the UK so decided to visit the branch in NYC for a comparison. The food didn't disappoint and it's great to see steak tartare on the menu as it's been a few years since it was sold at the UK branches. The NYC tartare wasn't quite as good as I remember the UK version being but it was still tasty. Steaks were excellent, we shared a 32oz chateau which was cooked just how we like it. The steak had a very hard sear which I really enjoyed. The seasoning was on point too which isn't something that can always be said for the UK branches. My only minor gripe is that the NYC branch doesn't sell the excellent triple cooked chips. The beef fat fries are nice enough, but I did miss the triple cooked chips.

I must confess I am a huge fan of Hawksmoor and was a visitor at the first restaurant on Commercial Street back in 06/07 and this branch in New York captures both the London experience but also channels the great history that steakhouses have in the United States. An excellent combination. Sure, it's expensive but so is everywhere in NYC at the moment but you're getting great food, cooked to perfection, backed up with wonderful service and a martini to die for. The atmosphere is great, not pretentious as some locations can be and not too casual so that you feel ridiculous when you make an effort. Just try not to drink too much of the excellent array of bourbons they have there...

Came to celebrate my boyfriends 30th birthday. Steak was outstanding. Sides are good but not very generous portion sizing. Toilets need attention as toilet paper all over floor - expect more when you’re paying $70/steak!!

My husband chose Hawksmoor to celebrate his birthday dinner while visiting NYC with teenaged boys. He wanted something upscale, but with food our carnivores would eat. Hawksmoor fit the requirements. The steaks were delicious, and service was very good. After days of hustle and bustle of touring the city, a nice meal was much appreciated.

Decided to come to Hawksmoor on our last night of our trip to NYC. We’ve been many times in London and it’s one of our favourite steak restaurants so thought it would be the perfect way to round off our trip. The restaurant itself is in a lovely venue but unfortunately the food really is a let down. The steak is double the price as London, but not even half as good quality- we asked for medium rare and it was over cooked. The chips were either over cooked or floppy and the creamed spinach was bland. The drinks were good though. Definitely doesn’t live up to the same hype as the London branches and wouldn’t recommend or go back. Shame as we had high hopes.

We were excited to try the NYC location as we have visited the Seven Dials and Spitalfields restaurants during our travels. The interior of Hawksmoor is stunning and has a very old world clubby feel. It is located in the former United Charities Building. We enjoyed the steak tartare, ash-baked beets, ribeye,10oz. filet and the East coast halibut. Sides- spinach, lemon and garlic and macaroni &cheese and mash and gravy. Good meal. Cocktails were excellent but it took awhile for them to arrive at the table. Highly recommend the Sour Cherry Negroni. For dessert, we ordered the Grand Rocker- decadent.

As one of our favourite restaurant Groups in the UK we decided we could not miss the opportunity to try the New York version. The building is just typical Hawksmoor with very stylish decoration and a traditional feel. The welcome was warm and we had to chose to eat on a Monday so we could take our own wine for just a $10 corkage charge. The sommelier was very friendly and we had an interesting conversation as he had previously worked in the UK. We were served by Randi who could not have been more attentive and helpful. We started with a drink at the bar and my wife loved her Disco Cosmo cocktail , whilst I had to have the Shaky Pete , which was every bit as good as the UK and maybe even stronger! To eat we has the Potted Beef and Bacon with excellent Yorkshire Puddings and a perfect Onion gravy. For mail we had the 14oz Ribeye, immaculately cooked , with beef dripping fries, creamed spinach and a three cheese Mac and Cheese and evry last mouthful was perfect. To finish Jill loved her Rhubarb Meringue and I had the house favourite Tributes chocolates. Thanks for a superb meal and making our stay in New York memorable

Had a very enjoyable evening here with husband during our recent trip to New York after a recommendation from a friend and it certainly lived up to our expectations. The restaurant was busy the night we visited with a mix of couples, families, friends and colleagues all enjoying some pre-festive celebrations. The atmosphere was lively, if a little noisy. Our server was knowledge and offered a range of recommendations including gluten free suggestions and alternatives. Staff were also knowledgable for wine suggestions and recommended a fantastic red to accompany our steaks and which were cooked to perfection.

As a regular frequenter of Hawksmoor Manchester, I took the decision to book my last night in NYC at the recently opened Hawksmoor, New York. I was excited to introduce my parents to Hawksmoor- who have never been to the the UK restaurants and I had been looking forward to the evening as the highlight of our 7 day trip to NYC. I genuinely wanted to leave a 5 star review, but sadly, I am unable to do so. Hawksmoor prices are never a surprise. Frankly, you get what you pay for and generally speaking, what you pay for, is excellent… so, no complaint generally, in that regard. I should say from the outset, that the service was classic Hawksmoor- terrific, in every regard. It is a shame that the lovely service-staff were let down by the chefs and the bar- which was woefully stocked and painfully slow. The starters were excellent. The crudo and potted beef were exceptional, but sadly, things went downhill from there. Three fillet steaks were ordered (1 x rare, 1 x medium and 1 x well done). I appreciate its heresy to order a fillet “well done” but my mum is 75 and “likes what she likes”. Only one steak (the rare) arrived properly cooked. Sadly, the staff forgot who ordered what, so I ended up with a medium to well done fillet, my mum with the rare and my father with a medium rare. The medium-well and medium-rare were sent back for a re-fire. They arrived 10/15 minutes later, by which time, I had almost finished my steak and all of the side dishes which we had ordered had gone cold. I would have thought that this would have been blatantly obvious, but no one acknowledged this. I genuinely wouldn’t have had a problem with the steaks being slightly undercooked , but given the price; the subsequent waiting time; the fact that all the sides had gone cold and I had long since finished my own steak was poor for a restaurant with this reputation and calibre. Matters were not assisted by the 20/25 minute wait for drinks, which only arrived after one or two promptings. As a digestif, I ordered three different whiskeys, all of which I were informed were not available. I was eventually given a whiskey which I hadn’t ordered “on the house”… whilst it was a lovely gesture, it didn’t go far enough to excuse the previous problems with the evening and again, I would expect items on the menu to be available, given the price and frankly, saturated market of steakhouses in New York. Disappointing on the whole. NYC Hawksmoor has a lot to learn from the UK.

The food and service were both stellar. We loved the filet, the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese and the cheesecake but everything was awesome.

The Hawksmoor, a British import, located in Gramercy, is a hotbed steakhouse. It is housed in the United Charity Building which is impressively adorned with 26 foot ceilings, stained glass windows and splendid archways....a glorious architectural spirit for a restaurant. The food catalog centers around meaty, natural beef items like dry-aged rump roast or a slab of pork belly but it is not without delicacies from the sea like surf & turf, and as well, it sports a renowned cocktail program. I loved the roasted bone marrow....craved for more but I had to leave room for my 'bone in rib' chop that was tops. I couldn't pass up on the Irish Coffee Tiramisu.......outrageously delicious and all washed down with a couple of rounds of 'Ultimate Manhattans'. Surprisingly, some menu items are light on the wallet making Hawksmoor a favorably priced NYC chophouse. Hawksmoor definitely answers the question to........where is the beef?

Having been a regular visitor to hawksmoor covent garden we visited here tonight on their recommendation and had the best evening ,Steve had porterhouse steak and I had rump steak , felt so at home here and were looked after by Alex who was super friendly and a lovely professional guy , and a waitress that was equally lovely !! Love hawksmoor and will be trying all their restaurants

New Year's Eve / very expensive, very noisy...but very good.....especially oysters....a treat.....passing by the bar almost mandatory....the Cocktails are great if you can recognize what you drink.....lol

Had dinner here with two friends on a Friday night. Arrived early we had a couple of drinks in the bar out front. Service was good and the cocktails were great. The room where dinner is served is beautiful. Service was good, food was great as was the wine. The steaks, all three were perfectly cooked. Price wise it's in line with it's competition at about $50 a steak! And there are plenty to choose from so everyone's (or most peoples) taste in steak should be covered. Sides wise, I love the mac and cheese! Atmosphere was good, nice and busy! Look forward to going back.

A lovely historic dining room with an excellent atmosphere - buzz of chatter. Food was good quality and service exceptional with a very attentive team on the floor. Four of us ate, and 2 enjoyed their meals, the other 2 shared a chateaubriand which was a bit tough and gristly at one end - served medium rare. Wine menu - outstanding. Sadly, the prices were outstanding too - with some bottles marked up 5-6 times the retail equivalent. Fries were average. Sauces not quite thick enough but tasty. Overall, a good experience thanks to the environment and staff team. Food quality and exaggerated wine prices would stop us from visiting again.

went here for my partners 30th Birthday ..service ok ..food not ok! steak was very salty! macaroni cheese was very dry! and the noise was horrible plus was seated next to a guy who was drunk and making alot of noise ...we moved to the bar area to finish our meal! Not worth the money Avoid it

We visited Hawksmoor NYC on a weeknight in May and the place was crowded. I certainly recommend reservations. The building is a beautifully remodeled Gramercy historic United Charities Building that was not open to public view for appx 100 years. The 30 foot vaulted ceiling is spectacular. The seating is a little more crowded than I prefer, but the tables are nice and the vibe is cool. We tried a couple of apps and the scallops were a hit as was the caprese tomato salad. They have an extensive and fun drink menu and our drinks were spot on. We tried the fillet and strip streaks as our entrees with the mushrooms and potatoes as our sides which are additional charges. The streaks were cooked perfectly and very good albeit a little small in portion size. The potato side was fairly plain and although cooked properly, they lacked flavor. A few minor negatives: For the money I feel the portions were on the small side for everything from the apps to the salads to the main course and dessert. If you are looking for bread, well that’s another additional cost. Our bill with tip was well over $300 for two people. Our meal ended with dessert which was amazing. It was a peanut buttered chocolate dessert that resembled a homemade Snicker’s bar, but was decadent and delicious. Overall a great restaurant and one we will recommend. Catching a cab takes a few minutes, but was easy. Dress is a mix, but I’d describe it as business causal. There is a good mix of business people, couples, friends and families dining.

We came here on a Sunday, taking advantage of the “Sunday Roast” (Sunday is the only day there is this ‘offer’): a main course with slices of roast-beef and various side dishes included, at a truly unbeatable price for what are instead the standards of this restaurant. Very good food, really high quality. I also recommend, just to quench your thirst a little, a bloody-Mary ... well done and super tasty! Very courteous and helpful staff.

For a British expat like myself, who had spent over a decade studying and working in London. Learning that a British Steak-House institution - Hawksmoor has opened up a branch across the ocean in New York was a revelation. To pay them a visit for ‘Sunday Roast‘ and Sticky Toffee Pudding is a no brainer. As well, for steak lovers like Clarence and myself, it will also provide us with an unique opportunity to savor grass fed, dry aged beef steak being grilled over Paraguay Charcoal, a special feature that Hawksmoor is known for. This frequently praised variety of charcoal could generate a whopping intense 950 degree heat!.....compared to other normal commercial 600+ degree varietals.! The unique property and characteristic also supposed to create a much faster and better crust, locking in more of the essential interior juices. Our party ordered a selection of our favorite starters that included…’ more oysters ‘ ( with Scottish Bonnet topping ), Steak Tartare, Roasted. Bone-marrow…etc. We also splitted our order into a few ‘ Sunday Roasts with all the trimmings ‘ plus a couple of locally raised, grass-fed 14 oz Rib-Eye and NY Striploin, both requested ‘rare‘. Sides of French fries cooked in beef suet and Creamed spinach were also musts!.....though the former were only double fried compared to the ‘Triple Fried’ versions available in the British Isles! The roasts, slow cooked over charcoal, were very flavourful, though the grass-fed rump was not as tender as one would hope. The gravy, beefy and delicious. The two steaks were perfectly seasoned and cooked rare as per our request. Packed with nice ‘ beef ‘ flavor! Portions of the roasts were huge with most of the gi-normous Yorkshire Pudding left untouched! A few sad notes and disappointments. They did not offer ‘ Mushy Peas ‘ which Evelyn was so looking forward to. Secondly, we were so full, there was no room for Sticky Toffee Pudding and English Trifle!! Sigh!! All in all, a wonderful and enjoyable family lunch experience!!

Having discovered Hawksmoor at their Seven Dials, London, restaurant last year (an extraordinary fabulous place) I was delighted to find there was an NYC restaurant when we visited in February this year. That night was just wonderful. The staff, the building, the bar, the staff, the food, the staff … So of course we had it as first item blocked in on our visit last week. Struggling to describe our latest visit as I don’t know a word for better than perfect!! The amazing team, professional, funny, welcoming. The cocktails at the bar ( so good they are worth a visit in their own right) then the food … Starters, Steaks (fillet and NY Strip) melt in the mouth with the sublime Bone Marrow gravy. The desserts were head spinningly beautiful (and I usually just have coffees) … I did not think you could create such a wonderful combination of ambience (the building is breathtaking) the food prepared and served with passion and pride … and then, the team … their ability to blend a relaxed communication style with efficient delivery is rare and remarkable. That last point is all about great leadership … Put Hawksmoor at the top of your todo list It will always be the centrepiece of our NY visits …

I visited Hawksmoore looking for a magnificent food experience, I did get “just” a nice one. The food is good (they should put back to the menu the marrow bone oysters) and I have enjoyed a couple of nice “ultimate Martini”. The place is very good looking and noisy but still possible to have a conversation.

Mediocre and expensive beef. Smallest martini on earth, at full price. Loud place, you can bafely talk. Would not put it in the category of a fine steakhouse

Incredible experience and vibe at Hawksmoor. Have been to the locations in the UK, and excited to see this gem come to NYC. Manager Jennifer Delgado did a fantastic job of seating us as a lovely table, which had a great view of the restaurant. Will certainly be back a few times.

I've been dining at various Hawksmoors in London for the past decade and Hawksmoor NYC is just as good and has a refreshingly similar vibe to its London sister restaurants. The cut selection was solid and our porterhouse was cooked perfectly, as were the sides. The martinis were killer and the service was the best I've experienced at a NYC steakhouse. Looking forward to the restaurant opening for Sunday roasts!

I was so looking forward to going here and could not have been more disappointed. Steak was tough, sides were small, menu was confusing, they brought us the wrong wine even after telling the waiter twice which bottle we wanted, fire alarm strobe lights were going off the entire night, the noise level is deafening and the service was terrible. New York has so many better steak places. Don’t waste your time or money.

Great ambiance and perfectly cooked steaks. The rib chop special is highly recommended as are the charred scallops, bone marrow and Caesars salad. The only blemish was the sticky toffee pudding which was served cold and still wasn't great when warmed up. The peanut butter Louis dessert was much better They have a very reasonable corkage fee of $35 which was great for me as I had some nice red wines I've been planning on opening with a nice meal

We have just returned from a great meal at this restaurant (with a vegetarian). Food was great although the service a little slow. Priced in line with other high end steakhouses

We enjoyed a very good meal here. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful and energetic. Bone marrow and beet appetizers were very good. We shared a Chateaubriand with mushrooms and beef fat fries for our main, which were all excellent. And the peanut butter Louis was a great finish. The service was just a little bit slow and disjointed at times, which is the only thing that kept us from rating it a 5 star experience.

This place was recommended and we are glad we tried it. Dressed up, but seems that there is no dress code (although, for prices, it's nice to not be in shorts and sneakers... IMO) - so you get a mix of clientele. the servers are all casually dressed and ready to get you whatever you need :) Great service, steaks and sides were very tasty, drinks - nice pours, and try the sticky toffee pudding, it is just WOW. Would def return.

Hawksmoor is a lively, contemporary restaurant. It was quite loud on a busy Friday night, and table conversation was challenging. Service was attentive and professional. The starters and sides were very good; the steaks were average. Mine was very undercooked, and I should have sent it back but that is so disruptive to the overall dining experience. The one thing a steakhouse should be able to do flawlessly is properly cook a steak, particularly at the prices they charge. Hawksmoor does not have the atmosphere or vibe of a traditional steakhouse, but rather feels like a modern restaurant that serves steak. For diners looking for the feel of a traditional steakhouse, there are much better options in NYC.

I am not sure how many times I have been to Hawksmoor, but I have always consistently had a great meal with great service, that is until now. The occasion was dual birthdays. Though I had notified and confirmed it the front desk, where was noting done about the birthdays. This was not the case with other tables. The service was spotty. Wine was not poured. The waiter was hard to find. The filet was closer to medium than medium rare plus. The other dishes were fine: Lobster, T-Bone, salads, etc. Though everything else was fine, it seemed like the restaurant was understaffed in multiple areas of the restaurant.

Hawksmoor is a well known group of steakhouses in the UK and spreading elsewhere. It has distinctive cuts of beef and a very good bar. The bar is well known for its ice cold martinis. This a fine dining experience in a very large open room. Dig in.

We frequented the London Hawksmoors more than we should, and after moving to New York have been missing it awfully. This place has the same spirit, atmosphere and, most importantly, damn good steak. The staff are lovely, the venue is gorgeous and very fitting of the brand. Fellow Londoners, come here for a reminder of home. They are missing mushrooms on the menu, but we'll return every now and then to see if that changes.

This past Sunday we dined at Hawksmoor for the fourth time. A Sunday trip to NYC would not be complete without a visit for their wonderful Sunday roast. Alex at the bar again provided excellent service. Alex was the bartender on our first visit to Hawksmoor a couple years ago and we were really glad to see and chat with him again. He makes our Hawksmoor visits truly memorable. The Sunday roast was cooked perfectly delicious, as usual. We are looking forward to another Sunday roast when we return to NYC in December.

Ambience: a great tribute to the London version; great architecture and barstools and design; no music; buzzing scene Food: always impeccably; and surprisingly consistent expecting little London touches where everything is locally sourced--even the cider; consistently perfectly cubed ice--a rare find Service: attitude and attitude; I felt guilty for being ONE at the bar and ordering all the sides as snacks instead of a full meal: as a vegetarian oftentimes that's what I have to do; nevertheless it didn't matter at all I know the Hawksmoor locations well in London or tried to find out more about things here; service cold and snooty and deft and I felt like I was really causing harm by asking them to recognize my existence as a paying, current, living breathing human taking up space.

Missing is Felix from London's 7 Dials Hawksmoor for sure upon the entrance of the restaurant, but the staff is uber cordial Unique Points: restoring a building that was vacant for 100+ years, keeping the British color scheme throughout, the same menu layout and font of London restaurants, the awkwardly-named British champagne sold by bottle or glass!, the high-tops in the bar area, the open kitchen, the Blue cheese sauce you HAVE to get (the USA version of Stichelton hollandaise served in UK), one USA-made DRY cider in a can; two kinds of fried potatoes just like in UK Low Points: dusty bottles on display at the bar, the space between the bar stools make sit impossible to arrive and sit between others without disturbing others; we had a slightly long lull between the first courses and the second courses; the bar had NO Bailey's or Bailey's Light of any flavor or variety, which seemed weird for a British-Irish influence; desserts need an Eton Mess addition or Pavlova, like in UK High Points: the British consistency, the farm-to-table simplicity vision (steaks and fish comes with no garnish whatsoever to highlight the flesh), the wine list, the Ukraine-initiative war supporting proceeds, our server Michael was attentive and deft; Adam the Bar Manager went out of his way to point out unique wines and some similarities and differences from 7 Dials Hawksmoor; the perfectly squared ice at the bar

Had such a great time during my first visit there a couple weeks ago, i had to take my friend there for lunch. We ended up being assisted by Luis, who was my server the last time. His recommendations, professionalism and his knowledge about the menus are second to none. The scotch bonnet and bone marrow oysters are to DIE for, steak was perfect, the cocktails, appetizers, dessert were all on point! You are guaranteed to enjoy the atmosphere, the service, and of course the food. will be back again!

Not as good as the ones you can have in a pub in London. Came here for their Sunday roast which supposedly is “award winning” according to the Observer. We ordered all the trimmings for the roast but opted to pay extra for a Bone-in Rib chop instead of the beef rump. Also had to pay extra for the cauliflower cheese which should be part of any Sunday roast. Main disappointment was the rib chop which was markedly under-seasoned. The quality of the meat was not the best. The Yorkshire pudding looked good but tasteless. The gravy was watery. The only bright spots were the roasted potatoes and the sticky toffee pudding dessert. The place is beautiful being located in a historic NYC building. However, the grand and soaring ceiling of the main dining room magnified all sound and caused the area to be so noisy. We had to shout our orders to the server to get heard. Also, our server just left after his shift without notice that we were without a server for most of our meal. Good luck with hailing a server with all that noise. Pricewise, it is at par with most steakhouses in the NYC. However, with so many excellent steakhouses to choose from in the city, it’s really not worth a repeat visit.

The food was amazing, and the vibe was fantastic. I brought my picky kids, and they both had the best steak they’ve ever tasted!

Everything clicks here -- food, drink, staff, environment. One of my favorite dining expriences and looking forward to going back. Wait staff recommended dishes both to share and for indivisuals, and was unerring with each suggestion.

Reserved 4 weeks in advance for our Anniversary and we even got there 10 minutes before the reservation. All of this only to be seated in the worst table in the entire restaurant. People coming in minutes after us with no reservations got to seat on separated 4 seaters just with 2 people. We got seated in a couche as the end table. On our left an extremely loud and abnoxious group of 2 and on the right was a walkway where all servers constantly kept walking by and dropping and hitting things. The food was great but everything else was a horrible experience!!!

Hawksmoor was excellent from apps to desserts. The pork belly and bone marrow were fantastic. The bone marrow especially was surprisingly good. The steak cooked on the charcoal grill gives a different flavor and was cooked perfectly. The sides including the fries and Mac and cheese were superb. The Grand Rocher dessert was also very good. We also got excellent cocktails and I’d especially recommend the Ginger Brew.

3rd visit to Hawksmoor NY in 15 months (visiting from UK) the 0 - 5 star rating system is not fit for purpose where this restaurant is concerned. It gets a 6!!! Staff were central to the whole experience, the breathtaking interior provides the perfect environment, the bar … I tried the Full fat Old Fashioned and had to be advised it wasn’t available intravenously 😅😅 What a fabulous cocktail. It has been recognised (on YouTube) as the best Steak Restaurant in New York and if you’ve already visited, that is ‘preaching to the converted’. If you haven’t, just try it, it will on your MUST DO list forever. Shared the Porterhouse for two after expert advice from the team paired with an excellent Sicilian Red. Can’t wait to return to try the now legendary burger ….

I never made it out of the bar. Loud, crowded, and perfect. Good wine and appetizer choices (pick the bone marrow oysters) with excellent service. Well worth a visit if you work/live in the area

What an amazing place.loved our evening here, great atmosphere and amazing food. The waiter helped us decide on our meals. Fabulous experience to celebrate a graduation. Daughter loved the fact she could get eggs with her steak and the mac&cheese was fabulous.

Decided to book as my daughter lives in New York and misses her Sunday Roast. The beef itself was delicious however the rest of the dinner was mediocre are best and definitely not worth the price we paid. It was an OK experience but nothing special and the restrooms were dirty.

Great steak restaurant in a brilliant historic building. Just about every streak you could desire in small and large format servings.

Hawksmoor is a steakhouse that charcoal grills its steaks. This gives them a crisp, charred, charcoal-flavored crust while the steak itself remains tender. Quite good. But the peanut butter Louis dessert, a chocolate/peanut butter bar served with caramel ice cream was out-of-this-world: one of the best desserts I have ever had. It would be nice if the restaurant can turn down the volume on the deafening soundtrack. It’s a steakhouse, not a dance club.

I do not quite understand the hype around this place. It was loud, the service was indifferent, the drinks were small, the steak was dry with a watered down sauce, and the Caesar salad hardly had any dressing. The check for two people came to over 350. I’ve had better experiences at a Texas Roadhouse. There are so many better steakhouses in New York. I would avoid this one.

Great find, cool atmosphere and the most amazing steak. Service was also phenomenal. It was my birthday and when the server found out, they brought out complimentary desert.
A Memorable Evening of Excellence – Thanks to Verjon :)
The experience was fantastic in every way. First and foremost, the dishes: the appetizers were perfect, both in terms of cooking and quality. We chose the scallops, shrimp cocktail, and filet tartare. The meat, a bone-in ribeye, was tender and flavorful, cooked exactly as requested. The sides – mushrooms, spinach, and Brussels sprouts – were delicious. Finally, we were kindly offered a dessert: the millefeuille, the perfect way to end the evening. Everything was made even more special by Verjon’s attentive and professional service, the true cherry on top of this wonderful dinner. Without him, it probably would have still been a good experience, but we wouldn’t have had such a memorable evening.
