Very tasty Italian in NYC. My favorite spot for authentic Italian. Great large format wines and hearty food. Brodo is a fantastic new bonus.

The meal we had during our visit mid May was good. It wasn't great but good. The wait staff was attentive. It would be a neighborhood spot but maybe not somewhere to run to from out of town. This sounds just ok but I would try this restaurant again. The main course was prepared well and flavorful.

Met up with friends here at Hearth who live in NY, so they knew the restaurant. We weren't disappointed. Lovely atmosphere and tasty food.

It's a place for sharing 2-3 small plates each. Good selection of all types from cheese, offal, fish to meats and poultry. Both inside and outside seating. Terrific wine selection at the going rate. Our server was very good but overworked - my only complaint! Nice desserts and after dinner drinks. Try it!!!

Went to Hearth for a wedding dinner with a group of 16. The food, service and ambience were perfect. They sat us in a private part of the restaurant just down from the open kitchen and away from the hassle and bustle. We started with the bean soup which was Ok, then the rigatoni ragu (exceptional and I could have eaten bowls of this). Next course was the cod (and my son had the braised beef) both really tasty and just the right size. Finished off with the apple donuts and good coffee. Thoroughly recommend this place and will come back again when in NY next.

We ate here on our most recent visit to NYC, having not been for several years [we like to visit lots of places]. We had a terrific meal and enjoyed ourselves. There is a small bar area and then a main seating area. You can also sit in the kitchen area. The noise level was very acceptable. Service was very good - our server did a wonderful job assisting with the wine. Order the meatballs. Even if you just share them at the table. You must eat them. They're ridiculously good. We also had the garlic bread. Note that many restaurants [including this one] are now charging for regular bread - not a good omen. The lamb was very good as well.

My wife and I ate here for her fiftieth birthday and had the taster menu with paired wines. After 10 or 11 dishes (so many we lost count) and excellent wines we were full to the brim! Our waiter, Jefferson, was extremely welcoming and friendly. A big thanks to all at The Hearth for making the meal so special for my wife š

On recommendations from friends I booked Hearth for brunch. We weren't very impressed. Food was good but nothing special and frankly the service was awful. It took six requests to get coffee. No yoghurt for fruit? The pancakes were dry....it was ok but I've had so much better in NYC. Maybe it was a bad day but the place was half empty at 11am in a Sunday...that says a lot......

Beautiful atmosphere, love the constantly updating menu. There was a few items on the menu I wasn't familiar with and the wait staff was incredibly informative and helpful. It was perfect for our group but would also be a great place for a date. All was perfectly prepared and tasty!

We arrived a few minutes before 6 PM and enjoyed a cocktail at the bar; the cocktails tend to have whimsical names, the two we tried were very good. After being seated, we explained we were gluten free, and they were able to provide a wonderful experience all gluten free. We started with bone broth, which is how we found Hearth. We make bone broth at home and have the broth cookbook Brodo. On the Hearth Website, the āOur Missionā, explains their thoughts about how to make excellent food. We then put ourselves in the chefās hands and enjoyed and evening by ordering the option on the top left of the menu. Every course was new to us and tasted great. Most of the way thru the meal we took a pause and enjoyed a glass of Cardamaro. When visiting New York City, we will always enjoy dinner at Hearth. The service, food, and atmosphere are wonderful.

Nice brunch experience! High end brunch place with lots of people pouring in on a weekend afternoon .Does cater to the vegetarians too .Service is good .Place is fine ,food was OK.

Started with the ribollita soup as an appetizer. It was hearty and belly-warming, and just the right size - not too much and not too little. For my entrƩe I had the homemade gnocchi (made without eggs here), that were soft and pillowy like creamy mashed potatoes rolled up into mini marshmallow shapes. They sat in a buttery sauce with crisped sage leaves sprinkled over the top. I've never had anything like it, and I found it rich, delicious, and a great mix of textures. Service was excellent. Ambience was warm, cozy, and is great for meeting with friends or a date. I'll definitely be back to try more options off the extensive, compelling menu.

Just a wonderfull restaurant with a wonderfull wine list that can of take you around the world they also have a nice selection of non alcoholic beverage the food is nice "a bit salty so you may want to mention if you have salt isues". Deserts are small but delicious

we went here because my daughter has a lot of allergies. It was a large party and everyone was able to find something they liked. Excellent service.

Hearth is one on my favorite New York City restaurants. Chef Marco Canora consistently surprises with wonderful dishes, elegantly presented and a delight to taste. This, accompanied by a great wine selection and a very well trained staff makes an evening at Hearth and truly unforgettable experience.

I am a 72-year-old native New Yorker and I know a phony when I see it. Restaurant dark, cold (AC with outdoor temps in the mid 60s!) Limited menu, vegetarian-unfriendly (this is 2025), way overpriced and salt salt salt. Ceci pancake, salad, Campanelle all salty. What a pretense.

Randomly found this place. Relatively good wine list, though overpriced. I have mixed feelings regarding the food. Some dishes were excellent, others were definitely underwhelming. Quite disappointed with the fish stew (very small portion, more of an appetizer than an entree). Service was quite slow. Pricey

The 6-course fixed menu was excellent complete with the drink pairings that were selected for us. Each course was well presented and the taste was excellent. The servers adapted the menu to suit our preferences.

The brunch menu was limited but everything we ordered was flavorful & fresh. We tried a variety of dishes but the stand out was the chicken liver pate served with sweet & sour shallot sauce and garnished with chives. The accompanying thick cut pieces of toast served as the perfect base for the velvety pate. We also enjoyed the sausage & kale ragu with fried eggs. The vegetable frittata and side of potatoes with rosemary were also good. Everyone was fighting over the thick cut bacon. If you are adventurous try the matcha lemonade. It sounds like a strange combination but was very refreshing. A nice friendly atmosphere with an eclectic vibe. The dishes and glassware are mixed match and there is a wooden box that you can store your phones inside if you prefer no disruption during your meal. Nicely done!

We went with our teenage kids for Restaurant week dinner and had a super meal. Everyone was pleased with their choices. Among the favorites were the meatballs/polenta, the gazpacho soup, the pollack, and the chocolate pudding.

We found this place last minute on our first night in New York and what a treat it was. It was smoking hot and sunny outside but once we walked in we were taken in to a dim lite, cool temperature, Italian oasis. Not even 10 seconds after we sat we had cold water and a brief intro to the menu. Then we were left to look it over and discuss. Their philosophy is what my husband and I are trying to do each day. Buy enough to make, eat, and have no waste of food. He ordered the meatballs (said they were fantastic) and I had the pork chops. We shared the sautƩed greens (with garlic bread crumbs and parmesan? yes please!) and a side of the warm bread. I savored every bite. Our server was attentive and offered great wine suggestions (as well as non alcoholic) and was the friendliest I've seen in a long time. We didn't save room for dessert but I wished we would have! The menu changes monthly (sometimes more depending on what chef wants) and would seem like a great place to try great food on a lovely mission. Please eat here!

I try to make it to eat here when ever I am in NYC. I like the clean food and focus on sustainability, and the 'paleo' ethos. It rarely disappoints, though certainly some dishes are better than others. It is also expensive, I believe the quality of food is high but I usually need more than one dish as many can be small. It has a great ambience, good for romance or dinner with friends. The servers know whats up and the wine by the glass is well thought out.

We introduced another out-of-town friend to Hearth. They are totally sold on it, and planning to return with or without us. Dishes are artfully created and could not be better. And, a memorable wine list.

I recently visited this restaurant with friends. The decor is nice and I sat at the bar for a while. The restaurant has a nice vibe and I was intrigued by a bar area overlooking the open kitchen. The service was quite good as well. My problem was with the food itself. The menu is somewhat confusing since it is broken down by food categories (vegetables, grains, meats, etc). The clue we were given was that the price told you what could be considered a starter vs an entree. I was not particularly impressed with anything we tried (burrata, the eggplant, the pate, the burger, the rigatoni, the meatballs). Portions are on the small size I thought and prices are relatively high. We tried three desserts, the pannacota, the donuts and a cake and the latter was the best of all three. Not sure if I will be going back with so many great restaurant choices in the city

We (five of us) had brunch to celebrate a birthday. The menu was varied enough to please all. And the selections were yummy. The wait staff went out of their way to help in the celebration.

This was a special birthday meal so more than just an evening out. The environment is lovely and there was a nice ambience on our arrival. The menu is confusing and even after an explanation it was difficult to judge what to order. The food was excellent and every dish was top quality. Given the very high prices this was a must. Unfortunately the service was aloof and condescending and we left the restaurant without anyone even acknowledging us. We had the distinct impression throughout that it was a privilege for us to be there. For us the food is not enough. Perhaps time to re-engage with guests and look happy they are there.

This is a wonderful restaurant. In a small brick lined room, it is appropriately named. You feel cozy and warm. The food is simply delicious... always. I've never had a bad meal there. I had the chef's tasting with wine pairing several visits. I just love this place.

If you love wine, good food and tastes that are amazing, Hearth is a good choice. Go early if you want to have great conversation, because the place gets VERY loud as the evening goes on, filling up a limited amount of tables with happy gourmets who all chat away. The very simple interior (love the candle lights...really love the ambience) doesn't take into account the noise factor. Our waiter was a wine expert, and his recommendations were spot on - I was dining with a true oenophile. Portions are relatively small but crafted with distinct tastes in mind. Known for their bone broth (they rather started that craze you know), Hearth should also be noted for their potato gnocchi, which I could have eaten in spades. OMG...it's amazing. Their meatballs will lure me back and make you beg to know how they make them so light and yet so full of flavor. The mushroom trifolati was another must-order-again. Order lots of different items to share with the table and experience the food of a two Michelin star restaurant. Let the waiter tell you what wine to choose. And, being very lucky, we had the chance to chat with Marco Canora and even walk to the corner as he headed home. Wow!

This restaurant is just ok. The food is good but not impressive. What's not good are the portion sizes! There is no creativity, innovation or rare ingredients to excuse the minimalistic plates! Totally overpriced!

I have been going to Hearth for as long as I can remember and have always had a great meal, cocktails and wine choices are very good as well. All in all a truly good restaurant. But on my last visit a few weeks ago I will have to say the server was so detached that it really ruined our evening. He dropped the dishes by unceremoniously barely saying a word. Any comment or effort by us to have a conversation or to ask about a dish was rebuffed with simple yes or no. Any thank you from us was rewarded with a sigh. The front of house staff is so important to a restaurantās success, I have pretty much always had much better experiences at Hearth - but I will say if and when I return there and have the same waiter and experience I will not be too pleased!! I am only giving Hearth an Average review and this is entirely based on service.

Food was spectacular and service was equally amazing. We felt lucky to get a reservation. Four of us ordered several items and shared them all. Highly recommend....it is an evening you will never forget!

Great place to eat if you like bone broth paleo and bone marrow. The food here is fantastic. I bought Mark's book so I can try and recreate some of the magic at home.

We were a large party who sampled a number of dishes. Every one was a winner. A couple who had just returned from Italy thought the maccheroni with Pork Ragu was the equal of anything in Tuscany. Many of the other dishes were imaginative combinations of very complimentary ingredients. My personal favorite was roasted black bass. Very attentive service.

Really nice atmosphere decor very comfortable, a little dark ,great wine list...meatballs were wonderful. Service was good...prices were NYC...all in all would return

Great food. The staff helped pick some of our dishes. Unfortunately we couldn't try everything! The cocktails and wine were great.

Great first time Visit at Hearth. Went for my 70th birthday to eat a meal with my son, wife, Daugherty in law and my niece. The food was delicious as well as the atmosphere. We had great food, and great service from the friendly wait staff, manager and operations director. Highly recommend going here.

Hearth has maintained its high quality for a number of years. The cooking is terrific, the ingredients are well thought through, and the service is congenial and professional. We came here with a large group of friends and sat in the back room. The wait staff could not have made us feel more welcome. We had a large variety of their entrƩes. This included the meatballs, quail, and a couple of pasta dishes. All were good but the quail was exceptional. It was delicate and probably the best I've had in some time. I couldn't identify the spices but whatever they were really added to the flavor. There wine list is also quite good and more importantly they are able to give some good advice. We tried a very unusual Sicilian wine which was a blend of various grapes including a Nero D'avola. All in all it is a great place for a relaxing evening.

I took a group of my employees, who I also consider good friends to Hearth for a team dinner a few weeks ago. Everything was perfect. The space is homey and warm. The staff was charming, and the food and drinks were fabulous. We had a gorgeous round table in the center of the restaurant. It was lively but not too loud so we could easily talk and hear each other. Our server Joshua was the perfect tour guide - making fabulous suggestions for food and drink on and off the menu and his service just kicked the whole experience up to the next level. And, of course, the food was stellar. I highly recommend Hearth for any occasion. You will not be disappointed.

Met my son for dinner in his neighborhood. I started with the roasted spring vegetables followed by a half order of pasta. My son had the fava beans and quail. We shared the polenta. The menu favors small plates which is fine with me; I'd rather do more small courses. We had a nice Fruili white as a companion to the dinner, followed by coffee. I would definitely go back. Dinner with $70 bottle and tip was $190, but this is New York after all!

Excellent. The meat is grass fed, they have so many healthy options and everything was delicious. They even make their own bread and pasta. The gnocchi is famous and very buttery, so delicious! I also like the cocktails list. You can sit at a regular table or by the kitchen, which is open.

From the extremely attentive server to the cozy atmosphere, we were thrilled with the food selections and were attracted to it fro the pure clean ingredients. We had the meatballs, cabbage salad , 1/2 chicken and a burger. The sourdough bread is the best we have ever had. We selected this restaurant due to food insensitivity and were not disappointed.

We celebrated my sister-in-law's birthday here. Family and friends were at two tables in the back part which felt very cozy but not crowded. The service was great, very attentive and personable. I had the pumpkin cannelloni. Delicious. Desserts were very good. Only drawback were the Unisex bathrooms. I'm just not a fan of those, but don't let that stop you. This place is excellent. Food, wine, all very good! Since this was an invited affaire, I can't comment on the prices.

We lived in the East Village for 6 weeks in the Fall of 2019. One our first night eight of us enjoyed the tasting menu -- and the wine pairings. The food and the wine were creative and delicious. Five weeks later, two of us returned to Hearth. The woman who served us the tasting menu not only remembered us, she remembered what we liked to drink! Were were served another beautiful meal -- including two amuse bouche.

We booked a few weeks ahead and it was very busy the night we went so we were glad we did. Our waitress was super excited to recommend us on wine and made great selections for red and white. She did not seem to know that much about the food though. The menu is not divided up by appetizer/entrees, it is all one page, so we were looking for some guidance on how much we should order and what size the portions were. She changed her mind several times and didn't seem to know. We ordered what we thought would be ok and the quantity was fine. The food itself was absolutely fantastic, hand-made gnocchi, amazing burger, some of the nicest and most flavourful mushrooms I have ever had. It was a great meal, despite the odd and somewhat lacking service. It was spoilt a bit by the waitress knocking a bottle of wine down my wife's back and then insisting on giving us a dry cleaning voucher, even though we were only in town for 2 days. All-in-all a wonderful meal, just spoilt a bit by the service.

I've visited Hearth on a three occasions, all three didn't disappoint! On my last visit with my husband and my best friend and her husband again we were delighted with our Saturday night. We started with the burrata and red pepper soup, their take on a Mexican street corn dish and shared the chicken for two. Everything was perfection! The chicken is most and flavorful with a hint of chilies. For the table we shared the garlic bread which was inhaled by my friends husband primarily. Whole wheat bread and the perfect amount of garlic and butter. The best! The cocktails are also first rate! Go with the staff recos. The restaurant itself is cozy and rustic in feel. A perfect escape for the bustle of the city. You can't go wrong at Hearth!

Hearth is that perfect neighborhood restaurant nestled into the chaos of Manhattan. Terrific cocktails made from locally sourced spirits and other ingredients and a menu that makes you want to order one of everything. Good acoustics also allow for conversation and wait staff is attentive but not overly so. One of the best Manhattans and Ribollitas ever.

We visited mid week and were very disappointed. Please take a look at the empty beer glass picture with this review, stare at it for 15 minutes and you will begin to experience what we went through. In short: - the staff is not professional. These are students. - the kitchen cannot get an order out. We sat and sat. - the menu is off. Check the $31 meatball dinner, photo below. Who thought this up? Not much of a meal and at this price per pound Prime Steak is a better value. This place was overwhelmed, understaffed and bad.

We dined at Hearth while my wife has been working in NYC. We really enjoyed our experience. Our meals were excellent - we had a fish dish and a pasta dish and a nice glass of wine. This is one of the gems located in the east side/alphabet city area. Will definitely be back.

A wonderful restaurant in the East Village. Can't say enough about the fabulous dining experience. Every staff member was friendly, smiling and seemed to enjoy their work. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. The room was lit with candles and the ambiance was fantastic. Worth the trip!

An excellent, comfortable restaurant in Manhattan. Very good food, great wine list (including wines by the glass) + full bar. Nice service and not pricey by New York standards.

I started off with the Ribollita ($14), which is a Tuscan white bean soup with black cabbage, breadcrumbs and cheese. I felt that it was poorly made because I could not recognize any flavor of the individual ingredients. The Rabbit and Olives main course ($28) was good but did not have sufficient recognizable Rabbit taste to the meat, it was served under a tasty sauce. It came with Olives and what I thought was bland Polenta. The famous pastry chef Karen de Masco's offerings were simple in nature. They included an Apple Tarte Tatin ($12), which I ordered. In appearance, it does not look like a French version. It was mildly sweet and it came with whipped cream on the side which, when eaten with the tarte, makes for a deliciously sweet dessert.

Missed going last time that I was visiting my daughter in New York so this time first on the list. The staff were all friendly and engaging, the room no so- we were seated in the back room which if you liked looking at brick was fine!! However we weren't there for the decor. The bone broth was good. The marrow was the best that I have ever had. Large bone and done to perfection. Their take on a burger was stellar. Wine by the glass - weak and no half bottles. Martini before dinner is a miss. I'd most certainly go back for the marrow and the burger n

I LOVE this restaurant! It is unpretentious but has a nice ambience, the food is amazing and the wine is one of the best in NYC. I cant say enough good things about this restaurant. Waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. There are a lot of great restaurants in NYC but his one definitely stands out.

Read my other reviews. I love food. Don't often write bad stuff. For Hearth, I'll make an exception. East Village is eclectic. A real mix of styles and tastes. People with money and many without. I like eclectic. What I don't like in food, is venues that do ostentatious, simply to be...well, ostentatious. Especially when they're not even that good at it. Quite why this place draws the crowds, is beyond my comprehension. Ok, it's smart inside, but that's the very least I'd expect. From that 'high point', it's all pretty much downhill. Yes, the food is acceptable, but at these eye-watering prices and meagre portions, I'd feel even more pick-pocketed if it wasn't. When the highlight of a gourmet intended meal, is the garlic bread, you realise you're being royally fleeced. Add to that, the stuffy atmosphere and condescending service and you have one of those nights you wish you'd stayed home. There are some mighty fine eating establishments in and around the Village. This is not one of those...

Each time I go to New York, I make many researches to find new restaurants that would offer, flavours, healthy cuisine, atmosphere and service in a trendy area possibly. I found all that at Heart. Very cosy, romantic, with brick walls, candles, quiet even if the place was full. Service was adorable, very nice, friendly and attentive people. We had tasting menu with wine pairing, the dishes were excellent and my preference for fish fully considered! The bouillabaisse with fennel was particularly delicious!!! Very interesting wine pairing, and we've been absolutely seduced by the dessert wine that matched so perfectly with the dessert, it was to die, really!!!! Many thanks for this great dinner and hope to come back soon!

We had rented an apartment in the southern end of Chelsea and this restaurant, just east of Union Square, was walkable. Just before we left Portland, OR, the restaurant was rated one of the best 100 wine restaurants in the USA, and as winos, we had to go. The food and service were wonderful - I had a pork dish and my wife a pasta dish which we enhanced with some fresh Hen of the Woods mushrooms. However, the great selection of wines-by-the-glass, and some very interesting bottle wines available, made the meal - and a great selection of Grappa finished it! We'd go back for the food, even if the wine list was not so fabulous. The lady who is the wine buyer would make even a wine neophite feel comfortable - what a great experience we had.

We really enjoyed the tasting menu. Traveling in from out of state, one of my friends (not a New Yorker) recommended this and particularly the tasting menu. We arrived at 715 and it was not crowded. By the time we left it was packed, and bizarrely the people next to us on either side were celebrating birthdays. We did the tasting menu. It was excellent. Of course too much food but really not overly so. The portions on the tasting menu are small. Loved the steak tartare, the grapefruit salad, the polenta, the hanger steak and the scallops and dessert. A few items were heavy in the garlic like the greens and the steak tartare. The pasta was good but the mushroom cabbage pasta was not my favorite. The restaurant is small and dark and loud, but that's to be expected. The service was great and attentive. The desserts were great. We left feeling full but not overly so, and excited to have sampled some great food. If not the tasting menu I would get the steak tartare, maybe the grapefruit salad, the bolognese, the hangar steak or the scallops. Ok full portions that is just too much! But it was all good.

Have been many times and just took a friend from her birthday. She loved it from the atmosphere to the service, the food and the fact that Chef Marco Canora is so present. He is almost always at the restaurant and he spent some personal time with us. The food is sourced very carefully, and prepared with loving hands as freshly as can be. They now mill their own cornmeal for Polenta which was always a must have, not its a must must have! The whole menu is interesting, changes and worth sharing so you can taste as much as possible. The steamed clams app was excellent and we share the spatchcock roast chicken. Yum. And dessert! Cider donuts just made...dark chocolate pudding. Perfect. Great wine list too...just a wonderful warm place.

I would recommend eating at Hearth to anyone looking for a good meal in New York. Iām a tourist, and after a long and happy day sightseeing, just wanted a simple well-cooked meal. I walked past Hearth, and I liked both the look of the menu and the feel of the place. Surprising myself, I opted for the tasting menu with matching wines. Everything was pretty much just right. Not just the food, but the ambiance, attention to detail, friendliness of the staff and attentiveness thereon. Many other āinvisibleā things make a good restaurant great. Hearth is full of invisible, carefully thought though things. Itās great. Iām really glad I discovered Hearth. And will try and come back before I return home.

I had a second thoughts about this place before i visited and i was right. After reading the menu for 20 min we finally picked something. Broth, garlic bread for 7$ , cauliflower or radishes bring 0 level of excitement to me and i will never go to a restaurant to order this. I ordered Warm calamari 17$ and Rabbit & Olives 28$. Tasteless calamari that were swimming in some sort of green soup (the pesto ) with beans. The rabbit was patetic. Few slices of meat , one bone and polenta that looks like..mashed potatoes. I attach a picture. Very overpriced wine list. The only positive thing in this place is that you can pick your coffee on the way to the WC (thats how they placed them). Will not return.

Had dinner here with family - 4 of us - all adventurous so we tried a lot of things on the menu. All were excellent. Starting with cocktails from their menu which were refreshing and tasty and - for Manhattan - not exorbitantly priced. For starters we had the broth which was rich, peppery and wonderfully tasty; the gnocchi which were light and airy and perfectly cooked and paired with the sage butter sauce; and the polenta which was creamy and savory with the pecorino and black pepper. For mains we had the Variety burger, the skate wing milanese, the meatballs and the whole grain maccheroni with pork ragu. All were superb and nothing was left on the plates! This was all accompanied by a Langhe Nebbiolo 2015 that was excellent and also at a terrific price point. Our server was also excellent and added to an overall enjoyable evening. The kind of place worth going back to!

I've been coming to this place for years. I thought it was a New York staple. It used to be classic and delicious food. Five of us went for my mother's birthday. Everything besides the burger was inedible.

I went to Hearth a few months ago with some girlfriends and I still think about how delicious it was. I got a pasta dish and everything was homemade and out of this world amazing. Hearth is the type of restaurant where they gave each of us a "shot" of carrot soup on the house and is was delicious. The restaurant is all farm to table and really a stand out NYC restaurant. Yum.

Located in the East Village, Hearth A fantastic meal. Lucky enough to sit at the kitchen bar and watch the magic happen as we Put Ourselves in the Hands of Executive Chef Marco Canora. From the moment we sat until the moment we rose this was a perfect meal highlighted by perfect wine pairings and a masterfully prepared Rib Eye. Chef Canora even prepared a few dishes not on the menu as the menu changes frequently, I am not sure of daily, but quite often. Fresh made rigatoni in a mushroom ragu was splendid. If you are going to dine here and want a truly exquisite meal and enjoy the sensory overload of the kitchen and a truly fresh and ambient atmosphere I would highly suggest putting yourself in the hand of Chef Canora and his staff. A truly great dining experience from service, to atmosphere from Appetizers to dessert. The beer election should not be overlooked as well! An outstanding evening.

What a crazy bad.service...Imagine you order a overprices main dish and they bring it in 2mins-meaning they just warmed previously prepared- disaster...I would skip it in high cyrcle...Someone need to visit them to check food safety

My family took me to Hearth for a Father's Day dinner. From the moment that we walked in, the service was disjointed. After finally getting some wait staff attention, it appeared that all they were interested in doing was "turning the table" as quick as possible. In their attempt to be trendy, they only had "craft" American Vodka as their choices (did not even include Tito's). This did not work. The food itself wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Portions were very small and very pricey. With all of the great restaurants in NYC, pick another one, where you won't feel that you overpaid for a poor experience.

We had dinner at Hearth in October and it was a terrific evening. Our server was charming and the food was wonderful, from the amuse bouche ( an eggplant veloute that made me want to stick my finger in the glass to get every drop), to the two terrific dessert courses. We had the seven course Chef's tasting menu. Our first course was Ribollita, a Tuscan soup made with white beans, black cabbage, spinach, Parmesan tuille, fried garlic and bread crumbs. It was delicious. I had bread on my plate, but forgot to use it to sop up the last bit. Blast! The next course was a ricotta sformato. This is like a cheese custard. It was served with pan roasted broccoli and cauliflower, pine nuts, Parmesan shavings, a spigarello pesto and a balsamic reduction. I am not usually a ricotta fan, but this was very successful. I loved the toasty pine nuts! Third course was an olive oil poached salmon with a quinoa salad. It was tasty, but we agreed it was probably the least impressive course. Fourth course was a Chestnut Canelloni with butternut squash, black trumpet mushrooms, fried sage and a brown butter sauce. This was my husbands favorite course, and I loved it too, but the fifth course was my favorite savory course. It was a roasted pork chop with Swiss chard and pan sauce. That pork was perfect. There were two desert courses. The first was a market fresh plum sorbet. It totally got the sweet/tart thing that fresh plums bring. The second was an olive oil cake with creme fraiche, raspberries and a lemon verbena granita. My husband favored the sorbet, but I loved the texture of that cake. We were in New York for four days, and we agreed that Hearth was our favorite experience. Cannot wait to return.

The food is out of this world. Ask for the fish of the day, this is one of the very, very few places where they know their craft of cooking fish. Amazing experience for people who are searching for the refined experience of having an incredibly well-made and fresh food in a great atmosphere. Having the option to dine outside is great too.

I went to Hearth tonight for the first time. They had just launched a revamped menu. Definitely mixed results. Some good some not. Toasted fennel and citrus amuse was very nice. The chicory salad was very good. The cauliflower and blue fish was good but I would have made the bluefish cold for juxtaposition with the cauliflower. The mushrooms were extremely good. The rabbit was not good and the polenta it came with bland although I don't care for polenta. The gnocchi disappointing, mushy and no flavor. The chocolate pudding dessert I very much enjoyed.

I hadn't been back to Hearth for about 8 years, but visited the restaurant many times since they opened 20 years ago. Last visit 8 years ago was a disappointment. I am happy to report that the restaurant if back to its high standards. Dishes worth ordering are the grilled carrots, the meatballs, and the pasta with ricotta. Didn't try the deserts this time.

I was celebrating my son's birthday with 10 family members. ALL of us loved the food, described as flavorful, unique, interesting. All ten raved about the quality. I had veal and ricotta meatballs which were super delicious. Four of the members commented that the portion of the main dish was smallish so for this reason the restaurant gets 4 out of 5 stars. Otherwise service was fine, ambiance was soothing (or as much as it could be for a Saturday dinner). My wife has a gluten allergy and enjoyed the flat-iron steak. Wine menu was also fine.

Decided to go with friends to this venue (booked in advance), as it was recommended and a short distance from where we were staying (remember the torrential rain!). Starter of prawns, main course of rib of beef, and butterscotch pudding for dessert. Each course was accompanied by wine (for an extra fee). Food was very fresh and tasty, but a bit pricey for this type of establishment. Customer service was very good indeed. Our server was friendly, efficient and polite. Atmosphere was one of a rather busy restaurant, but cosy with lots of couples and families. Nice! I'd certainly return, but hopefully it wouldn't be as expensive if not New Year's Eve.

Been years since last visit and better than I remember. Wife and I ordered bloody Maryās. She had the egg ragu with lots of greens while I stuck with traditional- ham, egg and cheese manwich. Both were great. Comfortable setting and attentive service. Canāt expect any more in NYC.

Outstanding service and a beautiful, perfectly lit interior-and even more importantly creatively prepared dishes that utilizes seasonal ingredients in unique ways. Our waiter recommended the Campo Rosso Chicories which I am still dreaming of. The entire experience was on point.

Celebrated my birthday at Hearth last night and really enjoyed it. I've been wanting to eat there for a long time, especially since it's around the corner from where I live. Had the sfomato and veal meatballs. My friend had the beet salad and the cod, and shared a delicious reisling. For desert we shared the caramel pear with gelato and candied peacans. I'm not a huge dessert person, but this was a can't stop eating it moment. Everything was perfect, including the service which felt top notch. Love this place and looking for reasons to go back soon.

My bf and I decided to booked a Sunday night dinner in Hearth, a participating restaurant for NYC restaurant month and we were impressed bet of belief. First of all we were late, 20 minutes late due to the fact I wrote the wrong address in my Gett app and ended up going to a scary part of E 3rd avenue instead of the Uber cool E 12th avenue in NY. The hostess called me to ask if we were coming (9.30pm reserv.) and I said "of course we are" just a bit lost at he moment. When we arrive the beautifully lit restaurant welcomed us Aling with the smile of a hostess. -ā¢sorry I'm late". I apologised. No worries at all, said the pleasant girl. We were shown to our table; and what followed was a veritable feast of the most mouth watering, simple ingredients we've ever tasted! The garlic bread was fantastic, superbly to roasted in the over with rosemary hints, the beef tartare delicately flavoured with super fresh herbs and the right balance of citrus vinaigrette, the chicken liver pate melted in your mouth. The winner for me was the "hake a aka Milanese" a perfectly well cooked piece of fish super lightly breaded and served simply with the most delicious sweet cherry tomatoes and green herbs in a delicate balance. We only Fran sparkling water which complimented all the dishes perfectly. Congratulations to the chef Marco Canora and his team!!

Hearth was a lovely dining experience filled with excellent seasonal produce prepared creatively. Their wines were wide-ranging and interesting and the ambiance was lovely too.

Located in Manhattan's East Village, this restaurant has a family friendly and laid back atmosphere. The wait staff was very helpful with the selection of our entrees and the wine to compliment the food. Each dish was seasoned to perfection giving the diner the pleasure of savory sensations.

Excellent Italian restaurant in the East Village via Marco Canora. Eclectic menu serving a range of dishes some familiar, others less well known. Everything was great. Loved the Hearth broth (w/ bone marrow, tumeric, and black pepper); campo rosso chicories (w/ bagna cauda), roasted cauliflower (w/ rice, raisins, and mint), maccheroni (w/ pork ragu and whipped ricotta), garlic Bread, and beef tartare (w/ raw cheddar, salsa verde, and potato chips). Desserts were amazing as well. Loved the tarte tartin and Stella's pudding (chocolate pudding, mascarpone, sourdough croutons, and pistachios). Excellent wine selection and great service.

Beautiful space with exposed brick, open air and nice dƩcor. Very rustic. Nice bar with great cocktails, open kitchen with 4 seats where you can actually sit and watch the chef's creations. We did the tasting menu, 6 courses for 78 bucks. Nice way to taste a variety of this wonderful fare. The food was very tasty not presented in a pretentious way...very simple and well executed. My only complaint would be the size of the samplings....very small. Even though it was a tasting menu I expected a little more food. Service was great and personable and if you like wine the list has plenty of goodies on there. Overall, fabulous meal and experience.

My partner and I always think "restaurant week" is a good excuse to explore restaurants that we haven't visited to have a taste of their meal before we "commit" to their regular menu. Well let me tell you this, we were not disappointed. Every dish we had was deliciously prepared with the right balance of ingredients and flavours. We will definitely be patronising this place again and exploring their regular menu. We didn't leave Hearth hungry! Please see the pics of what we had.

Great food, always kind of empty. As a result, fast service. Ingredients seem very fresh. Highly recommend.

Tonight was the second time eating at Hearth and it was a total disappointment. The first time about 2 years ago we have the $78 tasting menu and the food and service were absolutely fantastic. Tonight's meal was anything but. They've 'organized' the menu into categories like Fish, Vegetables, Meat, Grain etc. It seems logical until you realize there are no appetizers or entrees so essentially you order as you would at a tapas restaurant. That would be OK if the food followed along some kind of theme which this place does not.. Also you have no way of figuring out how much food to order. Do I want Italian meatballs (3 meatballs covered in red sauce in a bowl with nothing else) and the a bowl of smoked cod chowder (which was blended completely smooth and then piled high with arugula...and was flat out awful) It is a challenge to pick out a dinner that makes sense. The composition of most plates was either uninspired or downright unattractive and everything kind of looked like a Burrito Bowl you get at ChipotleFood comes out all at once and before wine was brought to the table. All meat dishes were braised, over salted and came with wilty vegetables. Staff appeared miserable and overworked. Dinner for 4 was $350 including one $50 bottle of wine. Far too expensive for the experience we got. Sadly, Hearth has jumped the shark for me and I'd only go back when they ditch the current menu and go back to making sense with their approach to dining.

This is a good visit. Food was excellent, service was ok. Our server was knowledgeable, just could have loosened up a bit. A definite recommendation for a great dinner.

Hearth has an unusual menu ā you should explore. We did the pear salad to start and then the steak tartare, both excellent. The Butterscotch Pudding for dessert was to die for. Excellent wines by the glass. Will go again.

Delicious small plates and a nicely selected wine list. Friendly attentive service that could not be better.

My wife and myself had dinner Saturday February 23 rd . We arrived early and they were able to seat us immediately. We got the food tasting menu but not the wine tasting menu and it was excellent. I am a big eater and we couldn't finish all the food . Hope to return someday.

This is my third time eating at Hearth while in New York City... And it's always delicious. The food is superb... With rich yet simple flavors that taste like a gourmet home chef lovingly prepared! In my opinion the mushrooms as a side vegetable are not to be missed⦠Simply fabulous! The whole fish is sensational and the whole chicken,as well. The minestrone soup is beyond perfect. Basically, anything I've ordered has always been delicious and the service is friendly and professional.

If I am going to spend money on a nice dinner, I would prefer not to be served a side of condescending attitude from servers. Aside from this, the food was small portioned but delicious. I had the minute steak and my wife had the ONLY vegetarian option which was a decidedly uninspired pasta dish with remnants of zucchini and Parmesan. The real entertainment came during the 15-minute exposition on the chocolate menu and its digestif pairings. I felt like I was in an SNL sketch. The waiter used forceps to serve the chocolate. Forceps. He talked about how one of the chocolates was "impregnated" with coco nibs. I mean, really? It's a chocolate bar and some nibs are in it. No need to over complicate things by sounding more erudite. All in all, a bit pricey and limited vegetarian options. Good but not amazing food.

Absolutely delicious food, great atmosphere and nice service. We had the tasting menu which is an amazing bargain. The wine was also great. The one very slight negative was that we sat around a little too long between courses sometimes. Highly, highly recommend, particularly the tasting menu.

Loved the brick walls with painted murals. Unique dishes, with healthy sized portions. Great for room for conversations. More than adequate table spacing for privacy.

This was our 2nd visit, 1st time for dinner. The fresh baked bread out of the oven is the best anywhere, and there is a very nice assortment of hummus to choose for dipping. I think the soup, salads, and appetizers are better than the entrees and are reasonably priced. I would go back again, especially for the bread.

We visited on a Saturday night at 930. This is one of my daughters favorite restaurants. We had the best server! She was friendly, funny and efficient. You could tell she loves people. The bartender made us excellent drinks. The food was outstanding. The mushrooms, meatballs and polenta were incredible!

Sunday in the east side - had a reservation for 11 a.m...not sure if it was required, although it did fill up within the hour. Rustic/quaint - great venue. Had the sourdough Bruschetta for a starter which was amazing. Ordered more deep fried toast (or so it seemed) to go with it. Very unique! We had the Braised Pork Trotter (pork from the foot of the pig - OMG fantastic over polenta) and the Meatball sandwich, which was a bit sloppy to eat, but very good. Would go back to try more dishes!

We went to Hearth on Christmas Eve for their special dinner - Feast of the Seven Fishes. And a true feast it was! From the personal and warm greeting by our Hostess through the entire meal, we were dazed and amazed by course after mouth-watering course. I'm from a traditional Italian family and have sampled many Christmas Eve Seven Fishes dinner. None of them holds a candle to this (sorry Grandma)... We can't wait to come back and sample the regular menu as well. Thanks for one of the best Christmas presents!! B&V

Went there Saturday night for dinner. Nice place, but a limited menu. Food was good but the server wasn't the best. As he filled our wine, he overfilled my wife's and son's girlfriend's glasses but hardly filled mine and my son's. While the food was good, we thought it was a bit overpriced, even for the city. Won't be back.

What a pity⦠This pleasant, rustic and busy venue in the East Village of NYC has the makings of a real GEM. The decor is warm and inviting. The bartender is charming and really aims to please as does Greg, the very charismatic host.. The food was tasty, delicious and the chicken plate we ordered was fragrant and cooked to perfection, as were all the sidesā¦I never received the quail platter I had ordered but that is okay. Unfortunately the service did not follow suite, and was quite frankly awful. Our server Alicia was clearly over her head and unable to manage it all. She tried her best to accommodate the tables she was responsible for but was not equipped to manage it all. Management needs to take a solid look into what is really going on here before a very special lucrative business slips through their fingertips

Very loud restaurant when it was full, I read reviews and looked at website and was expecting more and a better experience, food was ok, service was very slow, I think this place continues to live on it's great past reputation, shame really was expecting more and a better experience!!

It was our first visit to Hearth in several years, and, with a new menu, it seems better than ever. Two of our friends ordered the whole roasted black sea bass, and it was terrific, with crisp skin and gorgeous presentation. Their vegetarian daughter -- and the rest of us at the table -- were very happy with the creative and superbly prepared vegetable appetizers, which we all used to supplement our main courses. My wife and I had roast quail, which turned out to be half a bird each, rather skimpy, I'd say. The preparation, despite the rosy breast, was "correct" as the French say, but not special. Hearth, why not try pigeon? Others at our table had pasta with cheese of some kind (the vegetarian), a meatball dish and beef. All were very pleased. But it was the roast fish and vegetables that stood out. I almost forgot: the desserts were out of this world, and we tried almost all of them. Our server explained everything in just the right amount of detail, and was friendly but discreet. There are four or so seats overlooking the open kitchen, and I'd love to try that the next time I go with only my wife. Note: I do not give five points, unless everything is perfect, and this is, of course, very rare.

I was trying to find a quiet place for Thanksgiving dinner in New York - maybe that is impossible? The front reception area was packed with people - it was not my idea of a relaxing Thanksgiving. Maybe don't overbook so much? Service was gracious considering the mob. I would rather enjoy this restaurant on a quiet evening. Food was good to excellent - my favorite dish was the salad.

Food was incredible. Yes it is a very pricey restaurant but the quality of the food makes it worth it. The eggplant was good and the gnocchi as well. My favorite though is the garlic bread. It is absolutely to die for. The server was so friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu and made our experience so pleasurable. Definitely a place to go to at least once. I also tried the chocolate pudding and it was great. Not too sweet. Perfectly balanced. Lovely atmosphere as well.

Felt like we'd eaten food that did our bodies good at last, after a couple of weeks' travelling and eating out. Both the "charred" spring vegetables and "warm" vegeatables were cooked prrfectly just crisp and tasty. The lamb rib is highly recomended, a good size meal. "Variety burger" was also very nice and was medium rare just lke a steak should be. $80 for two incl tip with no wine.

The food here is EXCELLENT, and the best way to enjoy many dishes is to share several, family style. The hearth broth is delicious as a starter, and the gnocchi disappeared in a heartbeat! We shared a whole roasted Black Sea Bass with roasted potatoes, fennel, and red onion that was succulent to the taste buds. Sides of roasted cauliflower and mushroom trifolati rounded out the meal. Didn't have room for dessert!

Food to salty-steak,came in 3min (!?),how come?! Fantastic desert, choco crunchy puding Atmoshpere very nice!

The great thing about living in NYC is that there are so many restaurants to try, that you could live here for years and still not get to everything. The bad thing about living in NYC is that there are so many restaurants to try, that you could live here for years and still not get to everything. So, you feel really lucky when a restaurant has been operating for years, so that you can still get a chance to dine there. Thankfully, Hearth in the East Village is one of these places, so, I finally got to check it out. This Italian inspired restaurant focuses on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, served in a casual, yet sophisticated, environment. All of the aesthetic elements give you the feeling of warmth and comfort, paying homage to the restaurantās namesake. I went in for brunch, and while the menu sounded great, I opted to go for my own build-a-brunch and ordered a couple starters as my main. First, I had their Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs. Now, Iām not a huge deviled egg person, but I love smoked salmon, so, that trumped the former. I really loved these, and if you enjoy smoked salmon, youāre not going to want to eat a regular deviled egg again. They have a really nice balance of the smoked salmon flavor mixed in the creamy and smooth yolk filling. Then, theyāre topped with a little piece of crispy fried fish skin, adding a touch of crunch and texture. Then, I had the Balsamic Marinated Eggplant Toast with Ricotta and Basil. These little toast bites were amazing. They might look small, but theyāre pretty mighty, topped with delicious and hearty ingredients, they make for an excellent part of your meal, or, as an appetizer to share. The eggplant has a fantastic sweet and slightly smokey flavor, completely tender, and a touch of tang from the balsamic. Then, the creamy ricotta adds a nice richness to the toasts, topped with basil for some fresh herb flavor.

Exceptional service, an interesting and creative menu, and a really nice Mother's Day experience characterized my family's brunch. I had deviled eggs, apple cider donuts, an interesting and tasty potato appetizer, and Blueberry pancakes. Other family members had beef hash and eggs, which was quite good. Remember that they don't start serving drinks until noon but put in your drink order early and the drinks will come at the stroke of noon. While we went on Mother's Day, I would go anytime. In fact, we looked at the dinner menu and decided that we had to come back t try that as well. I must mention our waitress who was charming and knowledgeable as well as efficient.

Hearth was highly recommended so we, a party of four, were anxious to eat there. My disappointment started with the noise level and continued when we were handed the menus. I found it difficult to read and could not find an entrƩe that appealed to me. I had a feeling that the chef created the menu to please himself and not his patrons. I guess I was not alone because we decided to do the tasting menu. At $78 per person I expected more food. I also expected that for $50 per person for wine pairings that I would get more that a gulp. There were six courses: one salad, two fish, cod and mackerel, pasta, beef and dessert. There was a separate $7 charge for bread. They courses were all very tasty, but not very filling. The beef course for example, had only one morsel of beef neck. The service to me was a little pretentious. I had the feeling that they were doing us a favor. Our server also forgot my coffee order. I left a 20% tip, but regretted it after we left the restaurant.

My daughter chose Hearth for dinner. The menu features local farmers which we love supporting. We ordered glasses of Chianti and started with the warm autumn vegetables which was incredibly delicious; I think it had to do with whatever was spread around the rim (butter?) sprinkled with baked pumpkin seeds. We also had the steak tartare, a little plain compared to some other tartares we have enjoyed. We split two entrees. The chestnut canelloni (stuffed with pumpkin) was different, but most enjoyable. We also ordered the veal and ricotto meatballs, very tender. No room for dessert. Dinner ran us around $132 before tip. Ignore the B rating at the door. Worth the dining experience.

I SOOOOO wanted to love this restaurant. Night started out very well with the female sommelier bringing a few wines for us to try and she hit it out of the park. Definitely ask for her recommendations! The waitress talked to the kitchen and marked all menu items without Gluten and Dairy. Cauliflower and Broccoli was SUPER garlicky and oily. Sauteed greens were bland. Nothing at all to write home about. Octopus was delicious. Mushrooms were decent I though. Hubby said had no flavor. He tried the chicken and said it was passable. We passed on dessert. Slight dark setting with gorgeous decor. Noise level on the higher end of the spectrum. Portions are REALLY SMALL! Did I mention I really wanted to like this place?

Let me start off by saying that the food is quite good, probably 4 stars. But there are two big problems with this place that pull my overall rating down. The first is noise. The place was deafening when we got there on a Friday night at 7PM and it only got worse as the room filled up. The second problem is the menu, which I suppose is meant to be idiosyncratic, but is indecipherable without a server's assistance. I found it very profoundly irritating. Porridge, pasta, bread, polenta and gnocchi are all grouped under "grains." One can only infer by the prices that some are appetizers and others are entrees. Does anyone go into a restaurant and say to themselves, "I wonder what kind of grains they're serving today?" Why would you organized a menu this way? But at least the grains were somewhat intelligible. Skipping over the $66 spatchcock chicken "for two" (whatever that is) and the offal section which includes a "variety burger" made of 4 types of animal protein including heart and liver, and served with a side of fried market potatoes (what does "market" mean in this context?), we land on the charred spring vegetables, and are astounded by the lack of information about this dish. We all ended up pulling out our phones and looking at photos on Hearth's Yelp page, but that didn't help either, since they apparently change the menu every month, making 95% of the photos irrelevant. I ended up with the mushroom trifolati gremolata (whatever that means) and gemelli with spring peas, pesto and lemon. Since the gemelli was listed under grains, I guessed correctly that it was some sort of pasta. The mushrooms were very good, the pasta was decent. Our party of 7 decided to leave w/o dessert because the noise had become unbearable. With 2 bottles of wine, bill came to $472 w/o tip.

Had our 4th or 5th meal at Hearth. Food excellent, service quite good. Well worth many returns. Only negative was large table of young males in middle of room who got quite noisy, but I guess that's NYC.

Healthy fresh and great service. Went here for family celebrating with big group. Lots on the menu to satisfy the foodies. Good for sharing. Prices reasonable.

Family went for brunch. Birthday celebration. Three generations. Started with the apple cider donut holes (a bit 'heavy'). French toast with squash (an odd mix), Poached eggs and kale (really good). Veal and ricotta meatballs over polenta (the STAR of the brunch). Much to our chagrin, Hearth does not have desserts available for brunch. Our waiter saved the day and found the perfect piece of cake for our celebrating. We weren't rushed. Would we go back. Certainly.

I went there for Christmas Eve dinner with my wife and we had a 6-course dinner for about $96++ each. I can't recommend what dish to recommend since the Christmas Eve set meal might not be on their regular menu. But based on what I had, I would say the dishes are really good. The set meal is about seafood, and each dish is specially made to taste out of the ordinary. I believe they are specialised in contemporary and fusion cuisine. The layout of the dish is also pretty which serves to increase my appetite. The dim lighting of the restaurant gives it a quaint and cosy vibe but it is not instagram worthy unless you turn on your flash photography. As a tourist, and if you don't mind spending a bit more, this is definitely worth a try. But do remember to have a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Nigel waiter, excellent guidance for ordering and vast wine knowledge. Warm, cozy atmosphere, inventive preparations. Had the whipped ricotta, pork ragu macaroni, 1/2 chicken under brick, chicory parmesan salad. excellent

On a recommendation of friends to try Hearth, we went on a recent trip to NYC. It took us a while to digest the menu and find some selections that we thought would be interesting. We were not disappointed. The menu is creative and fresh. Nice atmosphere and good location in East Village.

I visited this restaurant with my family for a birthday dinner. When we sat down we understood it wasn't a typical three course meal serving. One of our group asked how the menu worked and it was explained that it was home cooking served in a variety of dishes, like tapas. A couple of the dishes we ordered were tasty, but to recognise which was which from the menu was confusing. One pork dish that arrived was thought to be a vegetable dish until the waitress explained that the meat had been "reduced right down",it must have been a stock for a soup because we couldn't find any!. This was a consistent theme during the evening.Sometimes you just pick the wrong restaurant for the occasion and that was fine by us. Then the waitress asked us if we were unhappy and that we should say so if this was the case. One of the group explained that they felt it was all a bit misleading,to which the waitress replied "I explained to you at the start what to expect and if you didn't understand that's not my my problem". At this point we just wanted to pay and leave.Just then a waiter who hadn't set foot near our table all night came to clear some plates and sarcastically remarked "well that went well didn't it"!!!!.. My family were really shocked and disappointed at the treatment we received,I was embarrassed to have chosen the place. It ruined our evening. Don't go.

Not a bad meal but definitely not worth the price. The service was spot on, the bartender fixed a superb Manhattan and hey Tom Collichio was sitting up in the front with a huge selection of dishes spread out before him, but basically just an ok meal. The portions were small, tasty but small, well prepared but nothing on the wow side of delicious. The chocolate pudding was tasteless. Not a good value at $200 for 2 and one of us had the restaurant week prix fix. They've changed the menu and I really liked the old Hearth much better.

Delicious food and fast service. We have been welcomed with a small glass of soup and have been offered after dinner a small brownie from the house. Every detail is curated and the staff is taking care well of the clients. They have a great selection of italians amaro and chocolate board.

Was in NYC on business. My colleague had previously been to Hearth and raved about it. I found out why! Ate at the kitchen counter and had engaging conversations with the kitchen staff, sous chef and eventually the owner. Took their recommendations for appetizer and main course which were excellent. Great wine choices as well. Prices are more than reasonable for a great, popular NYC restaurant. Definitely on my return-to-soon list!

Imaginative small menu in wonderful, relaxed surroundings make this an ideal brunch venue. Arrived Sunday at 11am for brunch, waiters were attentive but not obtrusive and ordered. Food and drinks came efficiently and were as described. Portions were substantial but not too large, and the food was delicious.

Iām a fan of bone broth. I make my own. Theirās is the BEST Iāve ever had. We came to this restaurant because they are known for their very healthy cooking. For dinner we ordered the hearty (beef)bone broth, multigrain bread and 3 vegetables because bone broth is filling. Bread came with grass fed butter, great olive oil and lardo (pork fat with spices). All 3 were great. Chef sent complementary sample of butternut squash soup which was lovely. The vegetables we chose were cauliflower with parsley garlic, olive oil and grilled sweet potato and a mushroom dish. The grilled sweet potato was good but a bit spicy for me. The mushrooms were outstanding. The cauliflower was very garlicky but good. One glass is wine. Tab was $84 before the tip. Itās pricey, very healthy and highly recommended...book ahead if you want to go. Looking forward to going back. One note: adjacent to the restaurant the same owner sells his bone broth at a window business called Brodo. You can chose from a variety of flavors. Hot in a cup or containers to take home. Iāve bought this here before and it was wonderful. I highly recommend this and itās a cheaper way to have the bone broth.

We had the fish of the day, and it was excellent! Deserts are nice, too. I can't say you should definitely go there, as in NYC there many wonderful places to eat, but if you live nearby, don't skip it, for diner or for a drink.

The food here is incredible and the ambience is nice (very low key and laid back). But it is expensive and portions verge on the micro. Honestly though, given the quality, I am not bothered by the prices. it is a place I come back to every now and then for a special treat - and it is worth it!

Really beautiful setting and a cosy atmosphere. The menu is varied and inviting. Friendly staff and a warm buzz about the place. Will be heading back next time I'm NYC!

Excellent farm to table food! Service and staff were excellent and food was awesome! Would go back in a heartbeat!

We had one of the loveliest dinners ever in NYC last night- we started with the campo rosso lettuce salad and warm sourdough, with champagne, followed by the NY strip steak, the Berkshire pork chop, with an incredible Italian Syrah that was mind blowing! Then the rhubarb tart with an ice cold glass of Amaro. A perfect evening. The service was efficient and so friendly. We will always dine at Hearth when we visit our son in NYC! Donāt miss this gem of a restaurant.

I must stop running to the new hot restaurant of the day and start visiting more of the time tested NYC classics. We had an excellent experience and it's great to see Hearth is going strong after so many years. The server knew the menu inside out and gave excellent descriptions to our menu questions. She was also very helpful with guiding us on how much to order and wine by the glass recommendations. Great wine list! Pacing of courses was perfect. Garlic Bread (with a touch of lemon), Pear & Pecorino Salad, Bone Broth, Cauliflower and Meatballs (best I've had in a while) were all excellent starters. We followed that with the Diver Scallops that were served with apple, sunchokes and parsnip puree. It was a great combination both texturally and flavor wise. I would have liked a little more pork in the Maccheroni with Pork Ragu but flavor was great and pasta was al dente. Braised Greens, Potato Gnocchi and Mushrooms were also very good. Apple Tarte Tartin and Doughnuts were a superb ending with a glass of sherry. Only negative came as we were leaving. While waiting for our coats, I watched as a cook was stirring a pan of risotto (?). In an open kitchen environment, please don't taste from the spoon you are stirring with and then continue to stir with the same spoon.

Decided to take a night out rather than hit the theater on a recent trip. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service was good. Would definitely recommend.

Went there yesterday, Oct 28th, for dinner with my son and his girlfriend. We have Italian origins and love to eat good food, so we had great expectations and much more after reading all the reviews (high grades) spread all over the restaurant walls. We ordered the six courses menu. First course was OK- Radicchio with cheese (?) and capers- very tasty. The second was everything but tasty: pickled cauli-flower with puffed wild rice and a pure of unknown origin. The third was OK : monk fish with radish and sweet potato (?). The forth was awful : fatty beef neck ??. The fifth : a (too) salty pasta with broccoli (why broccoli ? ) and pecorino cheese. The sixth was the desert- a donut with only three or four very small pieces of apple compote.-Disappointing for the price (cheap ingredients not in the best combination and taste).

OK, my wife and I are eating alot of bone broth recently and have Chef Canora's book on the topic, so why not try brunch at his place. First impression was of a casual and rustic room that is very welcoming, as are the staff. The menu has a slightly health-oriented vibe but this is not forced on you; there's plenty of recognizable comfort foods to choose from, and they are very well prepared. Everything our party had was quite good, some of it unusually delightful, most of it with flavors more subtle than assertive. I'd be happy to go back and try dinner there..

We had an American food brunch here today. Imaginative cocktails, long list of sherries (ask for a sample before you decide) and lots of beers. The food was good, but the service was outstanding. We had a relatively quiet table Hostess responded to our request) Food was well prepared and good quality. Some dishes were imaginative and some were standard brunch fare. Hard to find a nice restaurant in this area but the decor was unimaginative.

What we liked: 1. We had an 8:00pm reservation for six. My wife and I were the first to arrive and, instead of being asked to wait for the others, we were seated immediately with smiles and welcoming warmth. 2. Our waitress (sorry, I forgot to get her name) was excellent. She was friendly and, most importantly, able to answer all of our questions about the food without hesitation. She knew which dishes were gluten free and was more than willing to make a suggestion when asked. 3. The wine selection was outstanding and, thanks to the sommelier, we thoroughly enjoyed both of the whites we ordered. 4. Last, but not least, the food ohhh he food. Thank goodness we were a table full of people who don't mind sharing. I was able to sample the meatballs with ricotta (my choice), the grilled pork chop and the tagliatelle with broccoli. Each dish was excellent. For veggies we ate sautƩed swift chard, mushroom trifolate and roasted cauliflower and enjoyed each one. Even the bread (warm, long-fermented whole grain) was perfect for all except the one with the gluten allergy and was served with a choice of butter, olive oil or lardo. Dessert and coffee was the perfect finish. The apple cider doughnuts made me feel like a kid again. In all, a wonderful evening. Caution, Hearth is not inexpensive and can be noisy. Given that, we will definitely be going back.

It's a good solid restaurant with an exceptional bar, cocktails, and wine selections. The food is good but nothing spectacular. It can get very loud and difficult to hold a conversation. The service is very attentive.

I went to Hearth with work colleagues for drinks and dinner. We were seated promptly when we moved from the bar. The waiter then left us alone until called and provided some advice on the menu. The food took a little while to come but was excellent. Grilled cauliflower with blue fish very different than I'd tried before and an excellent starter. The pork chops were not what I expected, but very good. We had pieces of chocolate for dessert - nobody liked the 100%, but 74% hit the mark - a good talking point. A very good dinner and night out.

Ate here twice in the last month for dinner and the food was terrific. Had looked at the menu online which did not excite me but when we ordered it was out of this world. The crispy tilefish was surprisingly flavorful, meatballs melt in your mouth, the bone marrow was scrumptious, the gnocchi is the best I have had anywhere including Italy. Everyone at the table loved the cauliflower and the radish salad was a perfect pairing. Always like the wine recommendations we get. To top it off we had the maple panna cotta which was sublime and the toffee date cake which was moist and delicious. Looking forward to going back.

In the summer there is outside dining! The food is fresh and clean. The manager started us out with a cold gazpacho on the house. It was fantastic. We also had the zucchini soup without any cream. My daughter had the salmon and it was the best she has ever had. The Manager brought her a glass of wine that she thought was the perfect pairing with the fish. It was. I could go on and on, but you should try it for yourself. A little pricey, but worth it!

Hearth used to be amazing but my dinner last night was a whole grade or two down. Had the steak which was tough like hide. The gnocchi used to melt in your mouth but now they were like gnocchi anywhere. And had the fava bean salad (special) which was an F. Fava beans tasted like they were poured from the can to my plate. What happened?

Very friendly and well timed service and Very tasty and refined dinner menu of twelve courses. Providing a mix of different taste pallets Certainly a place to return.

Hearth is a "farm to table" restaurant in a neighborhood I lived in thirty years ago, but everything has changed so much since then that my recent journey back to the lower east side felt as if I had never been there before. On First Avenue at East 12th Street, Hearth is on the edge of Avenue A. Gone are the homeless heroin addicts from long ago. In their place is an upscale restaurant successfully executing in a culinary category that didn't exist thirty years ago. Hearth has subtle and warm lighting generated in part by candles set up high and almost at the ceiling height. The staff is helpful and warm. They appear to be genuinely enthusiastic about Hearth's farm to table offerings. The menu is not extensive. Rather, it has a small number of original dishes. At first nothing grabbed me until I saw the lamb ragout pasta, which I am so glad I ordered. It was amazingly! Others in my group loved the fried chicken. I found the acoustics at Hearth lacking. Between the place being loud and the fact that we were seated at a very large table in the middle of the room, I had to ask lots of people to repeat things. With that one complaint notwithstanding, I highly recommend Hearth. Who needs to hear when the food tastes so good!

I think this is one of the most underrated restaurants in NYC-you can't go wrong here. Also, it's worth it to check out the list of their purveyors.

Nice and within walking distance from home. Staff are attentive; nice menu. It can get a little pricey, so not a everyday meal for me.

Great recommendations by our server. Extremely knowledgable about our wine recommendations. The warm autumn vegetables to start were terrific. The meatballs and polenta a must. All around a great meal.

Really wonderful spot - welcoming and charming. The service was excellent. The food is interesting and delicious. I can't wait to go back.

We were taken to a restaurant we had long wanted to try for belated birthdays. Everything was delicious and healthy. Very friendly staff and good service. Moderate wines are available. However,,,,,,,I think when it comes down to paying $100 + a person one should not leave a restaurant hungry!. charging for bread while tasty was nothing more thatn one and a half piece for $6. (It would not feed one person.) I would return only if the portions were larger.

These days, the landscape outside Hearth restaurant is pretty harsh...it's a gritty, young neighborhood with all the wildness and loudness of the city on display. BUT, go inside and luxuriate at Hearth! You will not leave disappointed in any way. When we arrived, our party was not all intact, so we took a detour at the bar. There, I was pleased to find, in addition to what every bar must offer, the most diverse offerings of sherry that I've seen in any restaurant in a long time. I love sherry, so this was a pleasant discovery. When we all sat down for dinner we took part in the "chef's tasting menu" which we knew about, but had not tried at one earlier visit to Hearth. This is a memorable and fun thing to do! No menu, just trust the chef! Our server dutifully requested to know if there were any food allergies among our group. There were not, although I indicated I did not like brains, kidney or liver. Next, we proceeded to be fed a series of five different dishes, beginning with a braised cauliflower, continuing to a beet and roasted red snapper, then a pasta, followed by a broiled beef and finishing with a delicious chocolate pudding of all things! And along the way, each dish was paired with a different wine. What was not to like? Nothing at all. Everything was superb. The service was attentive and fun. And all this on top of a family fight that led to one of the diners standing up, telling off another, and leaving the premises!!! And still, a most fantastic dining experience to remember. Note: we made the reservation through Open Table. When we arrived our reservation was ready a few minutes early and everything went smoothly. Highly recommended - we will be back!

The food is good but donāt except to be full even you spend almost $100 on 5 dishes. They used interesting ingredients, the taste was good, and the plates were nicely presented. But, I do expect more than two ounces of fish for $26. The environment is nice so if you just want to sit and not eat, this is your place.

Even though the food was nice, I have to give it 1 star because its the biggest rip off ever for the size of the meals. The food portion for the mains was a joke. They should go to jail for dishing up those portions as main meals. Its just unacceptable. The chef must have come from serving food on Pigmy island or something. My $25 pork belly was half the size of a piece of bacon (just a little bit thicker) and my wife's gnocchi came on what looked like a side dish. Totally unsatisfactory. I really don't know what fairly land these guys are living in to think they are justified in serving these portion sizes. If I paid $5 i would have been pissed. Three of us had 2 entres (bread and a beet salad), 3 mains (2x gnocchi and a pork belly), and 3 drinks (2x aperol spritz and a beer) and the bill was US$120. I had to stop by 7-11 afterwards to get full. When the chef first brought out the mains, I actually thought they were side dishes for the mains. My pork was no joke about 50g if that, i reckon i could have put the who main meal, pork and vegetables, into my mouth in one go. Seriously, unless you are 4 foot tall and ate an hour beforehand, you'll need to eat three main meals just to avoid hitting McDonalds on the way home. I should've grabbed a few 99c pizza slices from across the road. This place is a a total waste of money. Don't bother!!

I dined here with a couple of work colleagues on June 9th evening at the recommendation of one of our party. Although it wasn't an horrendous dining experience - it was certainly decidedly average . Once again a big name chef restaurant that really is hyped up on that basis. The food portions are very small ( thank god my wife wasn't with me - she would have been starving!!) and the quality is really nothing special. One of the mains the Meatballs (you get three for 24$) arrived 10 mins after the other others - We ordered lamb tartare, monkfish and gnocchi, the side order of asparagus and mushrooms were 17$ each and really tiny... awkward. One of the party was given dirty cutlery and the first attempt at the bill was wrong- naturally in their favour!! Plus really expensive wine by the glass!! All in all I just wasn't very impressed . It takes more than a fancy chefs name to please me. I expect good service good food and reasonable prices!! I won't be rushing back anytime soon. Decidedly average. There are far better places to part with your hard earned cash. 158.41 for three persons

Quaint and unique restaurant. The three of us went during Restaurant Week and tried many dishes. Food was delicious, rich and decadent.

Went here for dinner with my friend visiting from San Fran who is a fastidious eater. There were many healthy and dairy free options so that was good. For starters, the cauliflower dish is good and so was the pancake-gluten free bread thing. We both had fish but the portions for entrees were very small and the flavors were not terribly exciting. The chocolate pudding dessert was AMAZING. Would go back just for that and the dry sherry by the glass.

This was our first visit to Hearth and we were impressed with the food and the excellent service. We dined from the Restaurant Week menu and all 3 of us enjoyed our meals. The starters of salad, ribolleta and sweet potatoes were excellent. Our entrees of meatballs and cod were also very good. Portions are reasonable so you wii leave satisfied and not stuffed. Desserts were the weakest part of the meal with the olive oil cake served slightly overdone and the budino just okay. Wish the wine list was a bit more reasonable as most glasses of wine were in the $17 to $19 range and beers were upwards of $9 for a can.

The menu is small and best to share. The mushrooms, the pasta, the fermented bread, the shrimp and other things I forgot were all very good. Best of all is the splatched chicken. Again simple but tasty

Enjoyed outdoor brunch dining on a beautiful Sunday. Nice cocktail and wine selection. Good brunch selection. Only downside was service was a bit slow, perhaps because of being outdoors. Look forward to returning for dinner.

We enjoyed the wonderful 7 course tasting menu and our waitress also agreed to provide appropriate wine pairings for each course, half glasses. All her choices were inventive and in only one case was the choice less than ideal. We were pleased with the acoustics though the place was not very crowded on a Monday evening. Still we could hear the background music and our own conversation without straining. We opened with the fava beans/toast and a very fresh Cocchi/soda with an orange slice. The ricotta sformata was great with chanterelles and the ricotta was perfect. The fish course was bass with caramelized onions, the house pasta was good with excellent zucchini. The lamb include a bit of pork belly and a side of gnocchi was added. The only wine mismatch was a sherry to go with the lamb. A bold idea but we would have preferred a red. The first sweet was dish was the panne cotta and the dessert was a fruit crumb with ice cream, the only less than ideal dish. The dessert wines were a Braida Brachetto and a Boch Eiswein that were perfect. We could have done without the last course but were very pleased overall with the experience. A wide range of innovative dishes and wines at reasonable price for New York.

Hearth is a really super restaurant in the East Village area on NY. The ambiance is excellent and food portions not huge but very tasty. Enjoyable.

Went here with a few office colleagues for dinner. We requested a table a day in advance and they were able to fit us in. The entire meal was amazing. Must try: Japanese Sweet Potato (as an appetizer, its like a baked potato and who doesn't like potatoes!), Ribollita (soup), Gemelli (pasta) & finish it up with Stella's pudding. They make their own pastas and they are seasonal, so be sure to ask. They also have great cocktails and a delicious ginger beer. Keep a lookout for serving glasses. They are all different and very unique!

The food is really good - thoughtfully cooked, beautifully prepared. Waitstaff really know the menu and really understand service at a high level. We couldn't get a table in the dining room so ate in the "parlor-" the small bar area. It was ideal - quiet, snug, private - better than the dining room itself in some ways. 4 stars because when food is this expensive I need to really think it's something rare. It's not - but it's an excellent meal, served simply and with elegance. Shared a salad, had fish for two, shared a dessert, one cocktail, one glass of wine - $200

We booked via Open Table and turned up and everything worked smoothly and they were expecting us. We sat down ordered a bottle of wine and the chefs tasting menu. The server asked if we had an allergies and they took on board that we didn't want any dried fruit in one of the meals. When the first course came out the server told us about it and said that they had removed the dried fruit from this then left, she came back almost immediately and apologised and said that there had been an oversight in the kitchen, she was very apologetic and another member of staff also came over to apologise and assure us it was the kitchen who made the mistake not our server. All of the food came out was fantastic and fresh, a particular highlight to me was the tartare. I would definitely go back and highly recommend giving Hearth a try and leaving your meal in the hands of the chef with the tasting menu

It's our first time in NYC and we made this a must stop for the recent James Beard award for exec chef Marco Canora - and it didn't disappoint. Service was great, atmosphere was perfect and the food was exciting and delicious. Great wine and cocktail selection as well-- go here! It won't disappoint!

I am a huge fan of the restaurant and I have never been let down. I just revisited recently and had an astounding meal. Our waitress was wonderful, the room buzzy but not crazy, noise level good, great lighting. And the produce!......everything was bold, textured and very tasty. A lot of attention is paid to detail and it shows. Good wine list too. I always come back.

We went to Hearth accidentally on a recent trip to New York and were pretty disappointed - especially after seeing that it was meant to be a really good quality place. We stumbled across it for a Sunday brunch, it was quite quiet but that didn't mean the service was quicker. I ordered the frittata which at $15 for a small, unseasoned slice and a few overly oily salad leaves was pricey. The sausages I ordered on theside were incredibly greasy. My boyfriend went for the lamb skillet which was fine but a bit overcooked and small. I know this is the city but the portion sizes and actual quality of the food do not warrant the cost. Considering you are in one of the best places in the world for food choices I would say you could do a lot better than Hearth.

I really liked this place, it has a warm atmosphere with a casual friendly staff that are attentive to service. I choose a glass of wine that was definitely my fault, but the wine selection was huge and the food is spot on. The manager introduced herself as I was leaving to ask about our dining experience and it was a nice finish to the evening knowing the staff cares even after the bill is payed. We will be back.

My wife and I go to Hearth several times a year and have never been disappointed. Among my favorites, the meatballs which are perfectly prepared are amazing. The rabbit dish is excellent, the gnocchi are perfectly prepared and I canāt say I have ever gone there with out an order of them. The whole fish for two is a treat. And the farm to table local ingredients are of top quality. I highly recommend Hearth. I should also say perfectly crafted cocktails a good wine list and very good service complete the picture. I suggest a reservation as it is usually crowded.
Nice and very different experience
We asked for the tasting menu, and it came surprisingly, not individual, but to share to the table. we were 4 guests, and all got to have a lot of every dish. The combination of flavours was very different and delicious. We had the menu tasting with the wine paring, suggested fby our lady server, who knew her job very well. Beseides knowing her job very well, she made the whole meal an experience....
