Was in the mood for Ramen noodles and four this place using Google and OMG!!!!! It is a MUST eat at place if you are in the area. Yummy food great service, you will love it if you like Ramen noodles.

I visited this Ramen restaurant around 12:00 in the midnight on Friday night. Even though it was late at night, the restaurant was approx. 80% full of the guests. I ordered Kogashi ramen with pork and soy sauce soup. This was delicious and the same taste as the delicious ramen with soy sauce soup. This restaurant is recommendable even for Japanese who are pickiest eater to ramen.

This place is amazing!! The place is literally right above totto ramen and it is just as good and the service is 20,000 times better!! At totto we were waiting for an hour or so to get in!! We were the first people at hide chan and they told us to wait but we waited for 15 minutes!! Then we went in and there are a bunch of tiny little statues and ramen spoons attached to the wall!! We got the pork bun, gyozas, and both got the classic ramen with egg!! The pork bun was so insanely tasty!! So were the gyozas!! The ramen was brilliant!! We got it with wavy noodles and a egg!! The egg probably had the flu because it was so runny!! It was the best ramen egg I have had in ramen!! So if you are reading this, you may think I like this place but you are wrong, because I LOVE this place!!

Great for a quick and tasty lunch. Nice menu, something for everyone (spicy pork ramen for me). Service as great.

Small place, up a flight of stairs. We went mid afternoon on a rainy Saturday and had to wait for 15 minutes for a table for 4. The Ramen was outstanding. I highly recommend the Spicy Garlic for a change of pace from traditional ramen. The service is so so, but the quality and taste of the ramen make up for it. And of course, Ramen is a bargain compared to most food in NYC. Enjoy.

I remember ramen when you could buy 4 packs of it for $1. Now its all the craze here in NYC. Been to several in NYC and of course Tokyo - Hide Chan is quite good. They have different types of ramen and you can choose the firmness of the noodle. If you go m-w, you can add a topping for free. Best to go before noon - so you don't have to wait.

I had the Red Dragon, which was delicious but was very spicy. My friend had the Kogashi which she said was her top Ramen of all time! Make sure you go to the 2nd floor, it's a different shop on the first floor. Look for all the Zagat signs on the door!

Co-worker suggested this place and it is definitely a place I would return to! Before 6pm, there are $2 draft Sapporos (they are in huge mugs) along with half off appetizers! How awesome is that? Fairly quick service and if the wait staff happen to make a mistake, they are quick to fix. Spicy Hakata will be my favorite as I love the kick in it! Brought my friend here and she even ate her whole bowl of ramen which she says she normally never finishes! That just tells you how delicious this place is. Portions are big enough to fill that belly and then some. At 6, the dinner rush comes in and there are tons of people lined up the stairs. Hide-Chan is on the 2nd floor, right on top of Totto Ramen.

Tried this place as per the recommendation of our friends. They said it is better than Ippudo Ramen. Totally agree but I have yet to find a ramen place here in NY that will beat Minca ramen- the best ramen in my opinion. The wait times here are very long so be prepared to wait. Because lots of people waiting, it feels like the servers are rushing everyone to finish their dining, which I do not really like. :-/

Really nice authentic ramen made by Japanese, at a very reasonable price. Service was great and fast

Went for lunch and got two different types of ramen. What is best is choices of noodle and firmness, pics so you know what you are getting and friendly service. Also ordered dumplings that were perfect. Bill was second lowest in city. Couldn't ask for better. On our list of places to go again. The spicy ramen was perfect not over or under spiced but I love spice, the waitress said its the only thing she couldn't eat but I loved it.

Just off the beaten path, a large and very pleasant restaurant, with excellent service (attentive and quick) and great selection of excellent food. We tried the Vegetable ramen, great, the Deluxe ramen with a perfectly balanced soup in flavour and consistency. the Spicy miso was indeed, spicy and the Takoyaki were to kill for. We finished with a Mochi ice cream, try the matcha flavour

I was pleasantly surprised to find the "spicy black garlic ramen" to be one of the best ramen bowls I've had in the city. The broth was textured, and deeply flavored. All the fixings were tasty and well presented. Some folks might say it was borderline too salty, but I would not say that and thought the bowl was super addictively tasty. Service was friendly and hospitable, and the interior of this establishment is quite welcoming and comfortable with a wooden Japanese motif. 5 stars for ramen and I would rate this bowl among the best in the city.

I am a ramen snob. I have eaten ramen all over the world and appreciate flavorful, creamy broth and fresh, straight noodles. Maybe it isn't fair to base a review on such high standards, but I know I would've appreciated this type of review before visiting Hide-Chan. So here is my honest opinion. I had the #1 option. The broth was ok. Flavorful, but not thick or creamy. I found that there were too many onions for my liking, they kept getting in the way of the flavor of the broth. The pork was dry and not fatty, making it not very flavorful. It actually tasted like someone had cooked it a few days ago and left it in the fridge to be re-heated when needed. However, I really liked the noodles. I chose the straight, firm option, and they were great! Not freshly-made tasting, but still really good. Just the right firmness to last through the bowl without getting too soggy. Service was super fast and friendly, and there was no wait when I went on a Monday night around 9:30. My meal was ok, but I definitely would've given one less star if I had waited for a table.

Over the years, I have been to a few ramen restaurant outside of Japan and Hide-Chan must be one of the best I have visited. Location: It is on the 52nd, between 2nd and 3rd avenue. It is on the 1st floor (not ground floor), very easy to find. Please note that there is another very good ramen restaurant on the ground floor of the same building but they do not do pork base soup. Staff: The staff are friendly. I was there last night at 1215am and again today at 1:30pm. Both set of staff made me feel very welcome at the restaurant. Food: I tasted the "firm" and "soft" noodles and prefer the "soft" noodles. Very fresh and cooked to perfection. The soup base is the best part. I love it, rich and creamy and not too spicy (I ordered the Spicy Garlic one). The pork (Char Siu) was nice, egg was beautifully cooked but there are lots of spring onion which comes with the noodles. If you don't like spring onion, please make a note on this. Summary: I will visit again even if I am visiting the other side of town. During weekdays, it opens until 1am and Fri/Sat, it opens until 3am. Must visit after a few beers in town.

We came here one evening to try out the ramen. As you can see from the check, the choices of ramen were varied and very good. The restaurant is decorated beautifully with lots of Japanese artwork, and they offer great service.

I went to this restaurant In New York with an open mind. The deco and ambience was simple and cozy. The service was friendly and the food was good, very tasty and you can taste the different flavours in the Ramen soup which is important. The Ramen was well prepared. The Spicy pork buns were very tasty and to top off your dinner with mocha ice cream would complete your dinner. Good money for value and not too expensive as well. I would go back there for a meal again

Popped in here before heading home (from GCT) on the recommendation of a friend and we were very impressed. Great ramen, cozy atmosphere and excellent service. We had the spicy garlic ramen and it was among the best I’ve tasted (and I’ve been to Japan a few times).

This place was just down the block from our hotel. There were two Ramen places right next to each other. We picked this one only because the other place was full. The menu is very simple and straight forward. Nothing fancy. We each ordered a ramen along with some appetizers. Overall the appetizers were very good and the ramen was top notch. The noodles were cooked just right, although one could ask for it to be cooked either al dente or softer depending on one's taste preference. I would definitely come back here if I needed a ramen fix.

The ramen here is pretty good. Nothing extraordinary though. Try the gyoza and tonkotsu ramen. Avoid the firm noodles.

We went to that restaurant due to a friend recomendation and we enjoyed it! The ramen were amazing, very tasty and natural flavour. The bowl was so big that we couldn't even finish it! You have to try the cheese dumplings... Sooo good!

We had ramen, agedashi tofu, and agedashi eggplant. Nothing really special. You are able to order how well done you want your noodle (firm, xtra firm, med), and whether you want wavy or straight noodles. My daughter ordered wavy med firmness and it noodles were al dente. My son ordered straight firm, and they were a little underdone. The agedashi tofu was not good - kind of slimey and not firm/crunchy on the outside like what I am used to back home. The agedashi eggplant was worse - was cold and did not look appetizing. Also, they don't do takeout.

We had a lovely dinner here, I had the chicken avocado as not being a fan of pork which all the ramen is based on. Lots of Japanese there ( which is always a good sign) and typical Japanese staff who were, of course, extremely polite and courteous. Definitely a place to recommend.

Tried this place for the first time. This place is superb! I had the spicy garlic ramen, 5pcs gyoza and finished with ice-cold oolong tea. Prices are cheaper than other "high-end" ramen places but this place can definitely compete for the "best ramen in NYC" list. Nice ambience and friendly Japanese staff. I came for an early dinner and was happy that they are giving half price for appetizers on weekdays! Definitely worth the visit.

Best ramen I’ve ever had! So so good and a huge portion, place is really nice and secluded. Would recommend. The prices are not bad

Hide-Chan serves up a good bowl of ramen. The highlight is definitely being able to select the degree of firmness as well as either a straight or wavy texture in the noodles. The sides aren't necessarily impressive, but the Hakata Kuro Ramen's garlic pork broth was something to be reckoned with. I enjoyed the gyozo and the pork buns. And during certain days of the week and times of the day, there are specials you can take advantage of. Such as free extra noodles past 12 AM or discounted sides during happy hour.

Excellent quality raman and noodles! Limited menu and ramen choices, but what they do serve should make most ramen lovers happy. You can order your noodles straight or wavy, and you can also indicate the level of cooking your noodles will be cooked, ie. firm, medium, soft, etc. We tried to go for dinner the night before but there was a line out the door, so we opted for lunch the next day. The restaurant is located upstairs and is relatively small. Service was very fast and friendly. I really would recommend this ramen house, but consider lunch on a weekend, as it seems to be very popular and small, which is a tough combination if you are really hungry.

Enjoyed this ramen spot on a rainy Saturday. We arrived right when it opened and it quickly filled up. Great broth and very reasonable prices considering the lunch sets and portion sizes. Loved the spicy miso garlic ramen. Would go again.

The two time I went there I had excellent ramen which will bring me back more....the service is spotty but the soup makes up for it! The pork buns are very tasty also.....will be back for sure!

I think this is the best ramen I have had outside Japan. Get there before 12:30 for lunch if you don't want to queue, but I have never had to queue for that long anyway. I come here for lunch whenever possible when I'm in New York and usually get the set menu with gyoza (exquisite) and tonkotsu ramen. It's the quality of the broth that really gets me, you can choose the richness, but whatever richness you go for it has such excellent body and depth of flavour, it really is delicious. I always leave with a new lease of life, whether I'm in recovery mode after a long night or am already bouncing around from meeting to meeting. If you get one of the booth tables then it's a good place for a meeting too. Service is straightforward and efficient, sometimes they won't let you sit down until your whole group is there, but in general I would say they deal very well with a pretty much constant turnover of diners at lunchtime (I've never been in the evening). I can't recommend this place enough. Enjoy!

We waited for almost half an hour for a table on a particularly busy Saturday evening but it was worth the wait. The ramen was delightful, as was the gyoza. Service was friendly and fast. The place is crammed with tables and noise can reach intolerable levels at times.

Their ramen is delicious, a decent portion, and is served fast! I had the Red Dragon ramen and highly recommend it. The spices did not overpower the flavor. The shop is small so there may be a wait. Your time is worth it!

My wife and I were visiting New York City, and stopped into Hide-Chan Ramen because it looked very legit. We had delicious green onion and radish gyoza ($4) and the deluxe ramen, which was terrific ($15 per bowl). My wife ordered Nigori sake, and they served her two glasses for the price of one, which was cool. My only complaint was that they dropped the ticket with our meal - we would have ordered another round of drinks and perhaps more appetizers, if we'd been given the chance. But the very good food and wallet-friendly prices outweighed the feeling that they'd like us to eat and get out as quickly as possible. I hope to be able to go back on another visit to NYC.

It's in the heart of midtown with a famous Ramen ship right downstairs but this friendly upstairs shop has all the perks of simple standard Ramen. The broth is kept pure and competes with most nyc Ramen spots

My first outing to have Ramen loved it. Tried the spicy garlic Ramen. Also had the spicy Edamame which was excellent

My personal favourite Ramen in Manhattan. Great soup base at a reasonable price. Hide-Chan is located near UN Tower and Waldolf-Astoria and is frequented by office crowds. So if you plan to come during lunch time, be prepared to join the queue.

Highly recommend Hakata Tonkotso Ramen with rich broth and firm noodles (you get to choose firmness). Hidden gem in midtown (ok not that hidden given lines on Saturday night) but stll get seated much faster than the Ippudos and momofuku noodle bars of the world. Order Kaedama (extra noodle order) after you go through your first round of noodles for about $1.5 extra to add to your leftover broth.

Arguably the best ramen in New York City. It is so good that there are crowds willing to wait for an hour to two hours to have dinner here.

Was in NYC earlier this month and it was quite chilly. After a long day of walking in the cold my sister and I stumbled upon Hide-Chan on our way back to our hotel. It's a small unsuspecting place above a flight of stairs. We went at about 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday and it was packed but the staff were great and got us a table within 5 minutes. Everything we ate was amazing! We had the gyoza with ponzu, the buns with pork, and two ramen bowls. Both were insanely good. Service was quick and cheerful. A perfect bowl of happiness on a cold day and quite reasonably priced even with extra toppings. Definitely would go again.

This is one of my favorite places to get Ramen. Upstairs, ironically next to Totto east side, this place is very popular for business lunch. Better to go early or late. They offer a small but respectable selection of types, with the choice to order the firmness and type of your noodle, a nice touch. I typically get the Red Dragon, but the fried garlic may not be a very social thing to do. The gyoza are also fantastic.

I love ramen! But the 'Red Dragon' at this place was not my taste. I ate at many ramen places and in many Asian countries never be so disappointed. The noodle itself was fine. But the soup was not. It was a fish base soup, which I love. But apart from it all things were off. Way too oily and salty! The garlic supposed to be good for health but the oil and salt offset all benefit. The salt and too much raw garlic even covered up all the good fishy aroma. I took garlic well, but not that much!! My kids said I stink when I got home. Do not order it if you are dating. Also it was too pricey for a this size and content. $15 just noodle and soup with small amount of bean sprout and egg in it. Meat and other things are all extra add on. I really do not mind to pay more for good ramen, but this did not justify the bad taste of the soup. 3 stars is for friendly service and the experience of my one bowl of ramen. Did not try other dishes. Have to give some benefit of the doubt.

Short menu: ramen soup and appetizers... Great quality food and reasonable prices... Little but comfy place...Fair service... Recommended!!

I arrived at 2.20 pm for a late lunch following an urge for ramen & a quick google search for a place near my hotel. At that time of day it was easy to get a seat at the counter. On ordering I was told that there was a free extra topping since it was Monday (must be a slow day). But also that the place shuts at 3pm. That was fine for me since the ramen arrived quickly & they were gone in no time. Really tasty food. Recommended.

The secret is to visit during happy hours on weekdays between 5 to 6:30 PM when appetizers and drinks are half price. So skip the Raman and order the appetizers and the premium sake! Have fun!

As of this posting TripAdvisor does not have the listing for the Hell's Kitchen branch. I ate the 53rd street (between 8th and 9th) branch that just recently opened. Same quality food but a new location. My Deluxe Ramen was very satisfying and really hit the spot. In the era of mass produced fast food, ramen is a great alternative for fast food. I ordered my food and ate it in a matter of 20 minutes and nothing was microwaved!

Small restaurant with very good taken soup amd good beef bowls. Only draw back is limited seating and small waiting area.

Loved this place! Spicy pork buns were amazing and the hakata broth and firm noodles were truly perfect and delicious. So glad we found this place. We were seated immediately (we went around 8:30pm), and there were plenty of open tables. Service was great too. Absolutely can't wait to go back.

Amazing food, great with kids, really friendly staff and bar/restaurant. Super speedy service and nice chilled neighborhood vibe.

Four of us went on a Sunday in April for lunch at Hide-Chan Ramen, and we needed to wait for 15 minutes or so on the stairs. It was worth the wait. Hide-Chan is a small little restaurant, but the ramen and pork buns were very good and the service is fast and friendly.

We found this place by accident, a happy accident. It was delicious. It got busy really fast too. The service was friendly and fast. Big portions. Good quality for the price. Excellent - highly recommend.

Waited 15 minutes for a table (I think the signs are slightly under estimating the times!) but once we got a table service was very quick. We preferred the firm noodles over the medium ones - but did enjoy all the varieties of broth our party tried. Space is small - no tables for 5 people so your fifth person will be at the end of your table and will get up and move a lot! Great noodles at a great price though!

A good ramen soup, and the tokoyaki were amazing. Overall the ramen was a little bit over salted and the corn in it didn’t add much to the dish.

This is my go-to for a ramen fix in New York. The ramen is amazing, ambience is perfect, and service is great. The only caveat is that it's not a great option if you have kids or strollers, due to the walk-up and no ground-floor seating. Otherwise, possibly one of the best ramen spots in the city!

Authetic Japanese, simple menu, delicious, nice atmosphere, clean! I can't wait to go back! You can add heat to any of the ramen bowls. Perfect on a cold New york day.

This is a great choice in Midtown East for families looking to avoid wallet-busting meals. For $11-$13 for a bowl of ramen, you can customize your noodles, make them spicy or not, add different toppings (although all seem to come with a pork broth). The service is quick and efficient, the decor is cheerful. I particularly liked how they used Asian soup spoons as wall art - very clever. The atmosphere is bustling and noisy and the tables are close together, so this isn’t a place for quiet conversation.

Great food, fast service and the everything is fresh. A great, low key, hole in the wall that you can go and just relax and have some beers and eat some old fashion street food on a budget They would get 5 stars, but they do NOT take American Express for payment.

My Japanese wife had heard of Hide-Chan but we had never tried it, so we decided to stop for dinner before heading to a concert and were not disappointed. As some reviewers have noted the menu is limited, but I actually see this as a positive - they focus on one thing and do it really well. I had the miso ramen, my wife had the "classic" ramen, which is soy based. The miso ramen was one of the best I've had, sometimes miso ramen is so miso-heavy that you miss the subtlety of the other favors, this soup base was near-perfect, lots of flavor without being too salty. The soy-based ramen was also very good. We started with an order of 10 gyoza, they were well done and a perfect amount for 3 people. One interesting difference from other ramen places, when you order you choose between "wavy" and "straight", and also choose the firmness. We all chose medium firmness and it was perfect, while I had the straight version and my wife had the wavy. A matter of personal preference I suppose, but both versions were good. It's not a big place, we must have hit the sweet spot - at 5 PM on a Saturday night we were seated immediately. Service was solid and the price was reasonable (the ramen are $10-15 each). Highly recommended if you like ramen and don't need the hype of Totto or Ippudo.

Visited the ramen shop near midnight after a long delayed flight. Amazing bowl of garlicky ramen that was rich but not too overpowering. Very friendly staff as well.

It was freezing outside... Its a small place... Up the stairs... If you don't know about it, you can miss it... I was the only guest in the restaurant... There is nothing much to say about the decor or the service. I was sitting at the Ramen "bar". They recommended the house known Zen-Nose Deluxe Ramen. They were right! It was extremely good. It was the right day for a meal in a soup... If you like Ramen, you'll like Hide-Chan Ramen, as I did.

I've been going here about once a month for a couple of years especially during the winter months, and I think it's the best Ramen I've had in NYC. Everything about their food seems to be a step up in quality from the other Ramen joints in town. I've tried just about every bowl they have, but I'm partial to the Hakata Kuro Ramen(Roasted Garlic), fantastic. Their house made gyoza are the best I've ever had. Though Toto Ramen on W.52nd is very good as well, I prefer it here for both it's atmosphere and more refined approach.

Good place for Ramen if in midtown east. The Ramen delux is an excellent choice-- rich pork broth, excellent noodles, and toppings.

I have had ramen in different countries, including Japan, and this is one of the best that i have tasted! I tried the spicy garlic ramen and it was superb: the broth, the pork was tender and even the hard boiled egg was cooked to perfection. Also tried the pork bun and the pork belly was perfectly cooked and well balanced with the lettuce and spicy mayo. Would recommend a visit.

Because I was visiting NYC, I jumped at the chance to go for ramen. Having lived in Japan for a couple of years, I get homesick for ramen - the everyday stuff from your local chukka joint, not the fancy style from a good restaurant. Unfortunately, Hide-chan offered neither. I ordered the Kogashi Ramen, and asked the waitress for advice on noodles. She offered wavy, and shrugged about tenderness, so I got the medium. Eventually. My teen daughter's food showed up. Customers on either side of me arrived, got their food, ate, and paid all before I was served. The waitresses seemed more interested in being efficient at tidying and taking away dishes than bringing the food I ordered, or at least checking in to let me know it would be a while. While I was waiting I noticed that they offered "Irrashaimase" welcomes to other customers, but not to us. Everyone should be welcomed consistently - regardless of whether they look like they speak Japanese. When I got my ramen, I was underwhelmed. I'd heard so much about this place, but the ramen was just OK. The broth had body, but it had an off fishy flavor and was fairly salty. The noodles were too firm (this may be a NYC thing about al dente noodles compared to other cities). When I tried to flag down a waitress to get some togarashi (red pepper) to spice it up, of the several standing there, they couldn't figure out which one of them should respond to me (this is maybe why it took so long to get my food). My daughter's food was better. She got the gyoza, which was OK, and kobe beef sliders with rice balls for buns. Tasty and a neat idea. All in all, I'll try a different ramen place next time. There's one right next door.

We each had different ramens; salads and dumplings and everything was just SOOOOOOO delicious - craved a really good quality ramen and was not dissapointed!

I had the miso ramen for lunch and it was excellent. My group split some orders of pork buns to go with our ramen and they were also delicious. The service was fine and the restaurant is small, but has a nice atmosphere. I will try to go here again if I visit NYC in the future.

Went here on a Thursday night. Got here around 6:00 or so. Pretty crowded but sat right away. $2 Sapporo drafts till 6:30!!! Had some nice appetizers....fried chicken, dumplings, pork buns I had the spicy garlic ramen.....might have been the best ramen I've ever had. I will definitely be back!!!

East-midtown ramen restaurant located on the 2nd floor above another ramen place. Comfortably decorated in dark wood, the restaurant offers counter seating, tables and booths. On this Tuesday evening when we arrived before 7:00pm, there was almost no waiting, and the soup arrived quickly as well. I’ve been here a few times, and the appetizers are very good. But from now on I’ve decided to skip the preliminaries and save my appetite for the soup. The soup dishes are customizable, so we asked for miso soup with cha-shu. We specified wavy noodles, which are supposed to be softer than the straight. We also asked for extra-soft, but they were a little too hard anyway. We would have been willing to wait a bit for longer-cooked, softer noodles The miso soup has more body and less flavor than Nakamura’s, but tasted good nevertheless, especially when I added a few strands of red ginger. I think I prefer the shoyu-flavored soup - more like soy sauce and more flavorful. Their main clientele seems to be midtown office workers, who may hit the bars before arriving to eat. The restaurant is open late, Thursday to 1:00am, Friday till 3:00am.

Stumbled onto the place as originally we planned to visit the next door ramen. My wife wanted to try the place on the strength of its menu variety and it certainly did not disappoint. The spicy ramen is actually spicy enough, Ginza and fried chicken were excellent. Coming back for sure...

And I kept eating and eating and it wasn't going away and I was getting full and towards the end it just wasn't quite as good anymore. Not bad, just not amazing.

Extremely tasty ramen. I had a prawn/shrimp tonkotsu with wavy noodles. Extremely yummy apart from the noodles being a bit al dente for my liking, even by the end of the bowl. My husband had tsukumen, which was also very good.

We were surprised to see that it's next to Toto and almost went in the wrong door as the sign is over the staircase to the 2nd floor and hard to read. Pork buns were not what we expected and we thought they were terrific. I ordered the soup without the sliced pork and liked it. I'm not much of a fan of this kind of meal but thought it was terrific of its sort.

I visited NYC for the first time for some professional purposes and during the last day, my crave for something Asian led me here. I love the fact that the restaurant is quite hidden and it's very small inside. From my experience, every Japanese eatery which is that small is usually superb, and Hide-Chan is no exception. I ordered normal gyoza, deluxe ramen with firm, straight noodles and an umeshu. Whenever I eat noodle soup I would barely touch the broth for many reasons. However for this bowl of ramen, I was so close to lick it clean. The food was simply among the most authentic Japanese I've ever had and I got shifted right back to Asia that moment. Nostalgic indeed! Next time I'm back in NYC, I would definitely save one spot on my agenda for Hide-chan.

We went for dinner as a party of 3. Ordered the meat buns, gyoza, and each had a bowl of ramen. One beer and one tea. Quite a lot of food for 3 of us who are not big eaters. Total bill $90.

Amazing atmosphere, service and food. Great for friends or solo dining. I would definitely return to this place.

This place is amazing with very authentic decor and excellent ramen. I love their Spicy Garlic Ramen and the pork buns! Also, they have a good variety of sake. Definitely recommend this place and will be back soon!

The ramen was amazing. It's open late too so perfect for a late night snack. It's tucked out of the way, so you'll really have to keep your eyes open to find it.

We live nearby and go here all the time. Service is friendly and there are mostly Japanese servers. Some nights we just go for drinks (like beer, sake & they have a Japanese vodka cocktail) and apps like gyoza, pork buns, edamame (garlic is amazing), cucumber, tofu, etc. They also have a yummy chicken, avocado rice bowl. On cold evenings or when we feel under the weather their ramen soup is the BEST. You can select your noodle - I like firm and straight. The traditional pork based version is my favorite but hubby loves the black sesame spicier bowl. It's all excellent.

Great ramen! I had a traditional ramen and it was outstanding, similar in quality to what you would expect in Japan. The service was fast and friendly. Even thought I sat at the counter with my toddler son, which must have been hectic for the servers, they were very nice, attentive and efficient. Great beer and gyoza as appetizer. I did not put 5 stars only because everything I had here (I went there again the next day) was quite salty, especially the fried chicken. Still, very satisfying meals every time.

This is one of best ramen place I discovered so far in big Apple , the quality of ramen, portion, taste & texture are top notch, great service too! you must try it when u visit NYC ! This lunch warm my heart in such cold rainy day ! Will come back again

Really good ramen. Great broth and you can choose the type of noodle and texture (wavy/straight, soft/medium/hard).

I stopped for lunch at Hide – Chan Ramen during one of my afternoon walks. Service was a little slow at 2:30 in the afternoon, presumably because the staff were winding down after the busy lunch hour. However the food was served piping hot, had a wonderful pork flavor and was very satisfying.

I couldn't have been more thrilled to find this spot while visiting. A friend suggested it, and lo and behold, it turned out to be in the space above what used to be one of my favorite late night Japanese restaurants, Tatany 52. The roasted garlic broth ramen was easily among the best ramen bowls I've ever had, and the fresh tofu to start the meal was spectacular. Service, at least at lunch, is a bit rushed, but hey, that's New York lunchtime, right?

Great spot in Midtown East. Right next to another ramen place, this one is on the first floor. The space is decorated very nicely and feels authentic. I was the only western-looking costumer, and that felt good. I had the eggplant appetizer and the Red Dragon ramen. "It's spicy": they warned me. And it was! I am ok with spicy, but be careful! I loved both dishes and will certainly be back to try more options. I highly recommend it. Prices are reasonable, in particular for this part of town.

My friend and I were in a bit of a rush to get to an xmas party but he needed ramen to get himself out of an emo rut/hangover. This place is in the 2nd story of a building on the east side. It's a long and narrow restaurant with tables close together, yet I didn't hear anyone's conversations so it is cozy, but not cramped. We had hot sake and I had the 10dollar classic ramen. I ate it all which means it was fantastic, because I usually eat half of my ramen. I can't wait to try the spicy garlic one, which I held off on since I had a night of holiday party chatting after and didn't want to eat too much garlic.

I had a veggie ramen there. It had a funky taste. It tasted as if they used some old ingredients. It was too salty, too. But the worse part was that after I paid, the waiter chased after me asking me for more tips even though I paid just enough for the badly tasted ramen. Since when tips are mandatory? All the staff were very rude and didn't smile. They treated me as if I'm not welcomed as the place was crowded. They all looked tired and underpaid by the management. Overall, I had a very bad experience. I will never go back there again.

So it's super cold here and all we could think about was a bowl of ramen and let me say this is the greatest beat ramen ever all I can say is try it! Ur mind will be blown!!!!

arrived at 3AM early Saturday morning and the place was still buzzing with late eaters. i sat by the bar and ordered the miso flavored ramen with extra cha-siu pork belly and wavy/firm noodles. the broth was steaming hot, rich, and flavorful! the noodles were cooked right - wavy and firm - just to my liking. overall a very delicious bowl of miso ramen. would definitely come back!

Interesting to have Hide-Chan and Totto Ramen at the same location. This was my second time to Hide-Chan and it did not disappoint. The ability to use credit card is convenient over the cash only Totto. Happy hour deals for half price appetizer and drinks was a bonus!

It is a popular ramen shop to make a matrix. Between 2nd and 3rd Avenue, located in 52th Street. Store is the second floor. Ramen price of 12-13 US dollars. Chip and putting $ 15. Recommended "HAKATA TONKOTU RAMEN" In taste plenty of pork soup, noodles and delicious firm.

You can always count on awesome ramen and gyoza at this place. The noodles can be customized to your liking and the gyoza is always the perfect balance of crisp and tender. Also, unlike many ramen places, they take credit cards

You can order different kind of noodles down to wavy/ straight/ al dente degrees. its a pork based broth and delicious, satisfying. Many add on possibilities and other appetizers available. There are lines unless you come off hours. Definitely worth a visit if you like TRUE ramen and this nabe does not have too many options..the best other being right next door (same owners I believe).

Hide Chan is right next to Toto ramen and up a flight of stairs. The staff is from Japan and speak Japanese/English. I went solo so sat at the counter. Having just come back from Japan my bar was set pretty high. I ordered the Spicy Garlic Ramen, they give you a choice between wavy or straight noodles , and the firmness of the noodles (firm, medium, soft). I went with medium wavy noodles. My bowl arrived promptly and I was impressed by the ingredients. The pork slices were delicious and plentiful, the half boiled egg was perfect with the yoke still soft. Green onions and crunchy veggies filled out the flavor, The broth was dark and hearty. Not as rich as a tonkatsu but was a different flavor profile. Noodles at medium were good, may try soft next time. Overall a great experience, I will return for more Ramen!

I had tried 4 ramen stores in NYC and this soup base was the one i enjoyed most. Its in tonkotsu pork broth. I loved jap ramen all my life and this is very authentic in my opinion. You could select wavy or straight noodles and also the noodle firmness. Soup base is Excellent. And the pork buns are great too.

We really enjoyed the ramen here. The restaurant is upstairs, and very small. It's almost like a hallway. But the food was yummy, the portions HUGE, the staff friendly and the service fast.

Go next door to Totto- 1000×better Poor service, staff are more concerned about taking your plate off the table before you've finished eating the unsatisfactory meals that 5 other people seated after you are already complaining about....

A friend recommended this restaurant and it was great. I have never eaten at a ramen restaurant before and I had the Vegetable Ramen and three pork buns. Both were delicious and I would eat here again.

This ramen house is one of the best! It is located on East 52nd I the top floor. Tiny space with giant flavor. Every table was packed. The ramen was heavenly. Perfect balance of flavors. Come hungry and slurp up every last bite!

Stopped by for traditional ramen. Excellent! Great service. Friendly staff. Upstairs from another shop. A little difficult to see at first. Not a large place. Several tables and a bar. Very nice.

One of the best places in NYC to eat! The ramen is top notch. The octopus was delicious. My son loved the beef rice bowl and I loved the Teriyaki Chicken Avacado Don rice bowl. There was not one complaint and we can be fairly picky eaters. Highly recommend this place!

We were there around 6:30 on a Saturday night, it was packed. They could make the waiting more organized - people were lining the long and very narrow stairs on both sides, there was hardly any room for people exiting, which made it pretty hazardous. Having said that, the food certainly hits the spot. Our party had various types of tonkotsu ramens, everyone was satisfied. I had the zen nose which was excellent. Order the spicy pork buns, they are unforgettable. I think if you show up at 8:30 you will have no problem getting a table, but we came right at dinnertime, so we felt very rushed. Bill came up to $120 for 5 people before tip, including drinks, ramens, and every appetizer on the menu.

The ramen here is excellent. You can order to your taste, I ordered medium dente and rich broth. It's very flavorfull, The place was packed with Japanese people which in my book is a good thing. I waited perhaps 25 minutes for a seat at the counter. They do rush you a bit so it's not exactly a chill out and eat style place. I would say in the top 5 Ramen's that I've had in NYC but the wait and having to rush kinda spoils it for me personally. They did not have Hiyashi Chuka which I've been on a quest for this summer.

Had the pleasure of an early dinner. Ordered the 5 piece goyza as an entree - discounted by 50% due to happy hour as well as a $2 Sapporo beer. I had the spicy ramen with wavy noodle and extra pork. Delicious and I’m sorry I found this at the end of my trip as I would have gone back there again and again and again. Well worth a visit.

Small very charming place with a manga kitch decoration The fried chicken is perfect: crisp, juicy, tasty Classic Ramen since 1963: white broth, thin noddles, delicious pork. Smooth classic rich but elegant taste

I was fortunate to visit during happy hour (4:30 - 6:30 Mon. to Fri), when appetizers are half price and Sapporo beers are $2.00. I had the pork buns which were very good and a bargain. For my main I had the miso ramen. My only complaint is that I had the noodles cooked medium and not soft (on the recommendation of the waitress) and they were a little more al dente than I would have preferred. Overall a great meal at a great price.

Ate the comb noodle, the noodle is good, but the soup is salty, the fry dumpling is great, and the service is also good, price is fair

It's been a couple of years since I've been back to Hide-Chan. My niece and I could not believe how salty our ramen broth was. We would have told the waitstaff but there was no one around to talk to, as it got crowded just when we got served our ramen. No one around at the end too as they collected our payment and quickly ran off. Sad as this would have been great ramen given firmness of noodle and quality of pork. Just want to tell chef to cut the salt in broth by at least 30%!!

Spicy Hakata ramen with an egg was Delicious. Pork buns were awesome as well. For lunch, 2 soups 2 pork buns 2 sapporos was like $50. Worth it.

I am so pleased with this fabulous Raman spot that my son found. We are very big Ramen lovers in our family after living in Hawaii, so it takes a lot to get our approval of a true Ramen shop, but Hide Chan is really great, with great humility and a humble price point. It's had to find a Raman spot in Manhattan that doesn't mug you over a bowl of Ramen. Yes, Ramen is a specialty and if you really know it's more than a bowl of soup, you appreciate a truly quality Ramen spot. The menu is simple with great options. The price is more than fair and really reflects a humble product. Don't miss it. Make time in your travels to visit this lovely, casual location. I know I will return on my next trip!

I was searching for an authentic spot to try Ramen noodle bowls and I found it! Delicious, authentic, well-priced, and very good value. You could come back 10 times and try something different every time! Even something for my somewhat picky daughter. Great option if you're staying in East Midtown!

Tasty food, big portions, very quick service. I like the rice balls and chicken ramen. They are very accommodating in terms of adding items to your ramen or taking things out. I like the old school hip hop music they have playing. I usually can get a seat within 20 minutes or so, but sometimes its very crowded. They used to have a "B" rating from the board of health (as of now, I think they have 'grade pending'), so that makes me wonder...but I like the ramen so much that I'll keep going back. And hopefully the grade pending means they addressing whatever issues got them to a B rating.

NOTE: This review is for the Hell's Kitchen location of Hide-Chan Ramen. My spouse and I dined at Hide-Chan Ramen for dinner on a Friday evening in early December 2017. Hide-Chan is open daily for lunch and dinner, until at least 10:00 pm or 11:00 pm depending on the day of the week. (The exception is Sunday, when the restaurant closes at 9:00 pm.) Hide-Chan does not appear to accept reservations. The Midtown West/Hell’s Kitchen location of Hide-Chan Ramen opened in fall 2010 on West 53rd Street between 9th and 8th Avenues. Another Manhattan location of Hide-Chan is in the Midtown East neighborhood on West 52nd Street. The original restaurant is located in Hakata Japan, where the chef is from originally. In 2002, the chef opened the first Hide Chan outside of Hakata in Tokyo, then he later opened 13 more shops throughout Japan before opening in the US. Hide-Chan Hell's Kitchen offers several places to dine. You enter the restaurant in the bar/lounge area, where you can sit at a stool at the L-shaped drinks bar, or at one of a few high-top communal tables near the front windows. You can also dine in the main dining room, which offers an open window into the kitchen where you can glimpse a peek of the chefs at work. The furniture is light blonde wood, which provides a backdrop for bright kitschy Japanese décor such as the colorful masks that hang on one wall of the main dining room, the row of paper lanterns suspended over the drinks bar, and the open shelving behind the bar displaying myriad sake bottles that forms a sort of screen divider between the rooms. Hide-Chan serves ramen and other Japanese food. Its specialty is its house made tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen, with thin straight noodles (alternatively, you can choose wavy noodles). We shared the fried chicken, dumplings, and steamed buns as an appetizer. (Note that the buns come one to an order; we didn’t realize, so we had to share the tasty nibble.) We then ordered two bowls of ramen. We washed it down with Sapporo and a mini metal can of cold imported Japanese sake. We enjoyed our dinner at Hide-Chan Ramen – the atmosphere is casual and fun and the food is great!

Everything's impeccable. Hosts are very courteous, polite yet friendly. Simple menu with multi choices for Ramen. Five of us had 5 different types of Ramen and they all are delicious and generous sizes. Ordered 6 different kinds of Appetizers and they all are delicious! (From egg plants to Dumplings to Chicken wings to Shimp Xiu Mai...) Very affordable prices for 2 adults and 3 teenagers *17, 16 and 14 years old*. A Must if you are in the area!!!

You can grab a bowl of tasty noodles and soup here. It feels hidden -- on a second floor, in an intimate setting. The service was good and fast. And it won't break your wallet.

If you are looking for an excellent ramen that is affordable this is the place to go. I Ordered a vegetable one and my husband the Bonito fish one . My son had chicken teriyaki and all plates were delicious. We ordered garlic edamame for an appetizer and it was seriously amazing. Highly recommend !

Pork is rough and overcooked. Ramen not good texture. Very disappointed but I think they just want to close for the night.

Now, this is a great find. The food was delicious. I had the classic ramen which was great. I must go back to try the spicy garlic ramen. Also had the pork buns, which i could easily go back for just a couple of those. However, the star of the show was the chicken teriyaki avocado appetizer. AMAZING. Coupled with some Sapporo's, this place won my heart. we missed Happy Hour by 5 minutes, which would have reduced our bill total but lesson learned for next time because there certainly will be one.

Great ramen very tasty and filling I had the Classic ramen - love the octopus balls but not too keen on the Cheese dumpling - too much cheese cant taste the dumpling. Staff was very friendly and welcoming.

I arrived for lunch early around 11:40am and did not have to wait. The restaurant is very popular and fills up quickly. You get a choice of wavy or straight ramen as well as a choice of firmness. I love Hakata ramen (straight) and ordered the Tonkotsu. The broth was amazing. I would absolutely go back.

I originally was going to visit another ramen place but that place had a long line. On the next block is this restaurant. No lines. Very friendly and attentive staff. Sat at bar. Food came promptly. The pork bun appetizer was awesome. I could make a whole meal from this (at least 4 or 5 with rice). I ordered the Bonito Ramen (Bonito fish broth). It was excellent. Great taste and not salty. Highly recommend.

My son and I were exploring Times Square in the evening and wanted a late night snack. I'm a big ramen fan and we were close to this restaurant so we walked in. Our waitress was really friendly and gave me a great recommendation on what to try. It was delicious and the restaurant was clean and nice. Highly recommend.

I love pho but have never experienced ramen (except for the hideous stuff at supermarket). I was so excited the find myself near one of the best ramen restaurants in NYC. It's easy to miss this gem, as it is up a staircase and next door to another ramen shop. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. The staff is attentive without being overbearing. The ramen is cheap ($12-$15), as are the sides ($3-$4). The ramen is also excellent! It's fresh and savory. The entire experience is fun, satisfying, and delicious. We ordered the classic, the miso, and the red dragon ramen. The table favorite was the classic - its very savory and satisfying. The red dragon is supposed to be super spicy, but it's not too hot to handle. We also partook in the fried chicken side - unbelievably good. You must visit!

Came here after a long day at a conference and it was worth the 20 minute wait. It's a tiny spot but cozy and good service. The steamed pork buns were delicious and the fried chicken was surprisingly good. I tried the Kogashi Ramen and wasn't disappointed. You definitely won't finish it all if you have appetizers!

This small upstairs restaurant has wonderful ramen. We had Basil Gyosa ($6) which was different and very tasty. We had the Spicy-Black Ramen dente medium (the noodles are thin and fresh) ($12.50/each). Definitely a full meal. Service was very good and we were there later at night about 830PM and there were few people, so easy to get a table. Have heard that many people wait in long lines to get in at peak hours. Basic tables and sushi bar.

Great food, good prices. Lots of variations in options. Knowledgeable and helpful servers. Authentic food. Nice somewhat secret late night joint for great food!

The ramen is all right though it is a little salty, however, a staff member keeps chatting with colleagues when I visited there, which was annoying. That was not like the Japanese standard quality of services at all so I hope it would be solved soon.
Superb!
I ate here about a month ago and I cannot get the experience out of my head. I ordered the spicy ramen and it was a revelation. The tonkatsu broth was wonderfully rich and porky and flavorful. The noodles I ordered extra firm and they were perfect. The meat (char siu) was delicious....there was so much in the bowl and I can't ever remember it all, I just know that I ordered a second bowl, which shocked the wait staff but they brought it quickly. Less than $30 for lunch that day and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I don't think I can ever go back to eating those ramen bricks again. Oh, I also had the pork buns. They were very very good, but everything pales in comparison to the ramen.
