We took an early reservation because everything else was full. Spent 2+ hours enjoying our meal and conversation. The appetizers, drinks and entrees were delicious. The service was attentive, timely and efficient. Their prices were very reasonable for NYC. (I've paid a lot more for much less!) This will definitely be one of our go-to spots on future visits.

It was my first return back since Covid shutdown of the city. I had moved away to CA since March, and finally returned to the city because of a worktrip 10+ yrs if coming here, and still never even a slight hickup. Food is always great, environ too, but service still sets this Hillstone apart from many of the others in their group. I’ve been fairly regular at Honor Bar near my home in Montecito, and compared to this Hillstone, even they come up short. Audrey at the greeting / hostess spot, was both on point and warm and welcoming to not just me, but all whom were also excited to dine on the consecutive days I have been returning. Covid has stressed people out, made em anxious. Even behind her mask, she put us all at ease and kept us engaged for a wonderful experience to come.

Terrible. Staff is pretentious and rude. You have to be seated at the bar? lot of unhappy people there all saying the same things. $62 Hawaiian ribeye with no flavor. Hardly marinated and charred. Almost Pittsburgh (burnt)

Hillstone is a chain but you'd never know it. From the ice cold drinks with fresh pressed juices to famous spinach dip it's always a five star . If the artichokes are in season they are a must! They also make the best cosmos ever . That's Hillstone for always being great.

We had sore feet and didn't walk very far from our hotel (the Evelyn) so we tried this one. The place was packed so we took a reservation for 45 minutes later and waited at the bar. I had an excellent Moscow mule and my girlfriend a nice Zinfandel. Finally we got a good seat at the bar and decided to have our meal there. My girlfriend had a rather tasteless veggie burger and I had tasty bbq ribs with too much coleslaw. Staff was very stressed and business like friendly. I had to get my toothpicks at the reception. Overall a good experience but there's better places to go.

This restaurant is iconic. The bread is baked three times a day, everything is measured to perfection, and the staff is an absolute pleasure. I don’t know how this restaurant group keeps such a low profile and also manages to be absolutely packed to capacity at all hours it’s open. We came for lunch at 330 pm on a Saturday and there was an hour long wait.

Was thrilled to get a Hillstone reservation – the trick is to go on Super Bowl Sunday! I saw this restaurant blow up on TikTok and my curiosity got the best of me. It certainly didn’t disappoint! Started off with the crisp martini, and what’s neat is the server will switch out your glass with a frozen one halfway through so you’ll always have a chilled glass. Very nice attention to detail. Big fans of the spinach and artichoke dip. We tried the deviled eggs which were rather good as well. I especially loved the French dip. The off market chicken sandwich was also yummy but I still preferred the French dip. A surprising highlight of the meal was the cabbage side. It was super tender and flavorful. Overall, this was a delight and I can’t wait to go back.

Hillstone is for those with strong voices and a good appetites. We had filet steaks and Thai Chicken Salads. Caesar salad to start. Save room for Key Lime Pie and Five Nut Brownie. A young crowd and noisy.

I went to Hillstone on a Sunday night with friends and it was packed. It's a very trendy looking place with great food and great atmosphere. Wait was 45 minutes so we found spots at the bar. It was a great night. Try the shrimp roll, crab cakes and Kale salad. It was dreamy. Little disappointed with the seared ahi tuna salad but all in all just fantastic.

Excellent spot with great service and interesting menu. Highly recommend this but purely for 2 or 3… no large parties which is actually refreshing!!

No words can describe this restaurant and the food it offers. This IS the best place to dine in. I’v been to many places, this one tops every restaurant in the whole world. The restaurant is elegantly designed and serves the best food.

Crab cakes, chicken and kale salad, any of the chef's specials. Great cocktails and wine selection. Comfortable with great service and atmosphere. You cannot have a bad night here.

I work in a Gault Millau Restaurant in Austria.. so i know what i am talking about. The Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Explains whats available today beside the reg. menu. The food and drinks are quick at the table. The staff Ask if the food is good and when the glass is emty they are Quick there to ask if they can bring something else. The time from the order till you get your order is short and the food is fresh and very good. The price is maybe a bit high but its worth. We really recommend the Restaurant to join. We are comeing back for sure. Thank you

Busy all day round, good service, good quality of food, nice bar with lots of seating. In general dar, cozy business oriented atmosphere.

The only reason that this review is not 5 stars is that we had an early reservation and they were ready out of 2 items on the menu. Server was great. She was funny and joked around with us. Food was outstanding. Great spot, they didn't rush us out. Go for the Osaka Style Sushi, you won't be disappointed. Ribs were juicy, and fell off of the bone.

My son is a flight attendant, and as such, his flight schedule takes him at least twice monthly to NY. He knows places... While waiting for our table, I saw the "goings on" in the kitchen. I'm a hamburger person, but the ribs looked amazing. So the son ordered both -- so that I can taste the pork ribs as well. They were soooo good, so tasty and tender. The service was spot on - attentive and professional. I wish I could visit more often NY and eat at this excellent restaurant.

For 5 decades I have been visiting Houston's/Hillstone restaurants across the country--Atlanta, LA, Phoenix, and now NYC. My recent visit did not let me down. What's remarkable is the consistency of service, food, and ambience. It's such a comfortable setting, and the service style is so attentive. Then there's the food. With infrequent visits, it's difficult to not have the ribs each time. Though the price has doubled over the years, somehow I can justify the expense. Usually, I will start the discussion with the waiter, as I did on this occasion, by asking if the key lime pie is available. It's a purchase even if I take it home. As a gift, my husband bought a whole pie for my birthday......and he got a piece also. On occasion, I'll get a veggie platter, even though I'm not a vegetarian. A NY Times reviewer has even lauded the sushi as some of the best in the City. It is tasty. then there's the Saturday chili with chips-YUM! Bottom line, I haven't had a meal that I would send back. Now, if they just had more locations in the Big Apple. They closed the location near my home. It's a loss for both of us.

The restaurant came highly recommended, so my wife and I decided to try the lunch service. I have to say I was very disappointed. My steak was very average, lacking flavour, tough and cold, and it came with a very watery jus on the side. The service was no better, and we had to chase the waitress for various items we ordered during the course of our meal. I would hope this was an exception to their normal quality and service, but for me it was extremely disappointing and expensive experience for what can only be described as average at best.

This restaurant is one of my favourite. Food excellent, drinks and bar area very dynamic and the restaurant has it classy style with a bit of casual taste. Love it and look forward to my next visit.

This remains one of my favorite chains in the US. High quality food and service. Favorites in the prime rib, campfire ribs, Hawaiian ribeye and crab cakes (sadly I think it's off the menu now). The sushi is also surprisingly good. We'll maybe not it shouldn't be a surprise because everything on the menu is good.

Great place to dine alone. Lovely bar service. Plenty of room, and full menu. Sushi is not an obvious choice , but they do a great job with it. Had NE Clam Chowder- As good as being on the Cape!

I recently visited Hillstone, and it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. The host was rude and made us feel unwelcome right away. The service was incredibly poor, as if they were doing us a favor by even acknowledging our presence. While the food was decent, it was overshadowed by the terrible treatment we received. If you have more than four or five friends or family members, think twice before going—apparently, they don’t accommodate larger groups. It’s a shame because the food has potential, but the overall experience left a sour taste. I definitely won’t be returning.

Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I’ve had in terms of service. The staff at the New York location were rude and dismissive, with an attitude that made it seem like they were doing us a favor just by serving us. While the food was actually quite good, the poor service completely overshadowed it. I won’t be returning.

Met friends for cocktails and appetizers, nice atmosphere, great bar! great drinks, great appetizers.

I love sitting at the bar! They have the best margarita of Manhattan...I need to understand the secret of their sour mix!!! Food is delicious and you can swing from sushi to stake and you will never be disappointed! Spaghetti squash and baked potato are my favorite sides there! Check it out!

Incredibly delicious food. I had spare ribs, my wife had sushi. Busy place, so reservations are necessary.

We love the Palm Beach Grille and Hillstone, its NY cousin, is equally impressive. Where do they find such great staff? Cocktails are ++good.

Hillstone has 2 locations. This review is for the E.54th Street & 3rd Ave. Location. The wait staff is exceptional. Always willing to please. Food was exceptional as well. We had the spinach dip plate and grilled artichoke for starters. DELICIOUS!! My wife then had the Prime Rib and I had the double cut pork chop. Both were juicy, tender and so good. As a bonus, there's a small jazz trio playing in the evening. All of it with drinks and dessert was about $150 including tax & tip.

Can’t help it. Everytime I am in New York I make room to come here. Love the atmosphere. Perfect for solo dining to. Thai steak noodle salad is to die for. Spinach and artichoke dip is another favorite. Not cheap but worth it.

What a wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious and the waitstaff attentive. What was particularly and memorable good: grilled artichokes; vegetable sushi roll with avocado, carrots, macadamia and jalapeño; the ruby star salad with salmon, grapefruit, hearts of palm, avocado with classic vinaigrette. We are looking forward to returning.

Hillstone is the perfect go to for a business lunch. The food is plentiful and comes out in a very timely manner. The staff is also super friendly and helpful, definitely recommend as a solid choice anytime of the week!

I ate at Hillstone at the recommendation of a coworker and I was not disappointed. The place was pretty packed at 5:45pm on a Wednesday. We we told there was an hour wait, so we grabbed drinks and spinach dip at the bar. They called our name about 30 mins in, moved our tab over to the waitress. The Caesar with Chicken was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice, classic. I’m told their steaks are great. I noticed a warning against cooking steak medium well or better would void their guarantee.

THE only French Dip you should ever eat! Butter! The bread is made in house and is so light, crispy, and flavorful. The meat is finely shaved, and melts an your mouth... oh but wait, there’s more.. there is a mystery ingredient between the meat and the bread.. it is also delicious. The accoutrements of au jus, horseradish sauce, smoked chipolti mayo are there to slow you down... it will help pace you so you have longer to enjoy the experience, and all taste great on the fries. If that weren’t enough.. this is all done in a beautiful setting; ( outside was white table cloths and small lamps on the tables) inside was booths and cozy ambiance of a men’s club our parents would have felt at home in. Drink their wine! The house Cab is made for them and can be purchased by the glass which is great bc your food would never last long enough for a bottle... The vineyard does have a retail version that can be purchased on line. We came for lunch( after googling best French Dip NYC) and I had the French Dip, my husband had the Spicy Tuna roll which he said was outstanding. He also “cleaned up” my leftovers and the next night we went back again for the French Dip since I woke up thinking about it. Food comes out in less than 10 minutes.. make a reservation. They were fully committed for inside and outside, both lunch and dinner Saturday and Sunday.

had the bbq ribs, loved it, and the fries. whiskey sour was great.service good. need a reservation or wait.

I had a business lunch here recently and everyone really enjoyed the food and the amazingly large portions. The setting worked well for a small business lunch - but I'm sure it could accommodate larger groups. Reasonably priced and definitely recommended.

If you are looking for the best spare ribs in NYC this is the place for you. Cooked for perfection , almost melting out the bone. Try also the spinach dip for a starter , really tasty. Definitely recommended!!

Went back there about 3 months after my previous visit. Even at 5PM on a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was almost full and hussled. We took the spinach dip and Thai salad for starter- both gret dishes- the Thai salad has the twist with the crispy beef and the mango. The spinach dip is simply delicious! For mains we took a hanburger, ork ribs and Hawaiian steak. The Hamburger is something you can skip- nothing to write about, and even its palting was anemic- large lettuce leafs and large slices of tomatoe. You don't go to Hillstone for this... The prok's ribs were delicious, although could have gotten off the fire 1-2 minutes before, as they were a bit dry at the outbord ones. Accompanied by roasted cauliflower and colslow, it's a great dish. The best was the Hawaiian steak- made to the exact level of medium, with the taste of ginger and pineapple, accompanied by matches-thin fries. Asusual- they know how deal with meat, but don't waste your time in the cheesburger.

Always enjoy evenings at Hillstone Park Ave. We were seated promptly where we asked to be seated and the service was excellent. The food is always consistent - and consistenly very good. We’ve never had anything we didn’t enjoy.

I was here over the Labor Day weekend and didn't know that NYC wasn't allowing indoor dining. The restaurant has tables under the colonnade of the NY Life Insurance building and seating is very limited. Not having visited the restaurant in several years, I didn't know that they had started taking reservations. We would visit the Third Ave. location more than traveling to this location. When they were Houston's, they had a "no-reservation" policy. Unfortunately, we waited an hour or more to have a late lunch here after visiting a nearby museum. Our server was Sapphire and she was personable and accommodating. We had a great meal.

There are but seven upscale Hillstone Restaurants in the nation. I took my wife out for her birthday lunch at the Hillstone on the corner Park Ave and 27th. It is indeed a busy place with plenty of business men having their mid-day meal. Our wait though, was a short twenty minutes without reservations. This Hillstone has eclectic art with a mixture of modernism and American Indian art. The seats are extremely comfortable with plenty of privacy between the tables, booths and bar area. We found the service to be friendly and not overly pretentious. I had the pricy $24-dollar cheeseburger. It came out perfect medium-rare. It did not come with sautéed onions, which I would have enjoyed. I was able to substitute the good-looking fries for a genuine “Idaho potato.” This was about the best potato I have ever eaten. My wife ordered a salad with rotisserie chicken. Unfortunately, she came across a “bone.” My wife does not like any “bones” in her food. She had the meal taken away. The pleasant manager came to our table and genuinely apologized. My wife refused to allow the manager to remake her meal as my wife’s appetite vanished. This was not the way I had planned our first experience at Hillstone. I know mistakes do happen. Hopefully, my wife’s memory will eventually fade and we will go back to a Hillstone—particularly for that Idaho potato. For a place like this, I normally give four stars, if not five stars. Due to the circumstances, I do have to place “three” stars for this experience. If you found this review “helpful” in any way, please press “LIKE” to let me know.

Friday evening, I made a reservation for my wife's birthday dinner with me. Years ago our favorite restaurant was Houston's in Roosevelt Field. We lament the day they left and I personally have always felt that this was a huge loss to the mall. Certainly a terrible loss to my wife and I. That said, Hillstone, is the same company although I really would vote to bring the Prime Rib back to the menu. The above said, Hillstone, is perfect for us in many ways. Great atmosphere and terrific food. They do it right. This was a highlight of our weekend in Manhattan. My wife glowed to see her favorite spinach dip. We also really, really enjoy the artichokes when available. They prepare them perfectly. I have never seen better. We enjoyed the perfect trout and finished with the hot fudge sundae, a real birthday indulgence. Very few venues come near the experience we receive at Hillstone. We certainly will try to score a table when we are in the area. Many thanx to the staff in both the front and back of this house. You are all to be congratulated on a job well done. We appreciate your efforts!

I can’t recommend this place enough. The food is top notch, but pales in comparison to the service. When you go ask for Kachine. She is by far the best server I have ever had.

Yesterday met with a business colleague for lunch at Hillstone on Park Avenue South. What a pleasant surprise. The restaurant layout was broad and spacious and provided several settings in which to visit and meet with others. The menu had a good variety of options and was satisfying. What topped it off was the kind, efficient and friendly service which made the experience a delight.

I had the pork ribs with baked potato. The ribs were incredibly tender, and the sauce so very delicious. Baked potato was one of the biggest I have ever seen. It is delicious with the chives and sour cream etc.

Exceptional quality meat (we had pork and beef) Quite high prices 100% justified by food quality Atmosphere cosy in the back of the confortable dining room, much more fun close to the bar Reservation compulsory on week-ends

We went to lunch at Hillstone and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The restaurant is a little dark but it adds a certain elegance to it. Prices seemed a bit high - but what does one expect in NYC! I would definitely return to Hillstone again!

Disrespectful reception. With reservations made way in advance, over 3 weeks ago, they asked us to step back and wait almost 20 minutes when they had over 50% of the tables unoccupied. We told the reception girl that we couldn’t wait any longer standing because my husband was sick and I have knee and back problems. She still did not acknowledge my request and again I requested to be seated. After a long while we where guided to our table. Thank God for Sienna, our waitress who was so service oriented. She should be running this restaurant. The rest of the night was saved by her. Even though the food is average in this restaurant her service was excellent and she made us feel special.

we have been here a few time. service and food as always been on point. eating is nice at the bar or in the restautrant. Especially love sundays here - nice relaxed feel.

We have been going to Houston’s restaurants in Fort Lauderdale for more than 20 years and we have never been disappointed. We came a few times to Hillstone back in 2012 and again 2 times this week. At each occasion, exceptional service, great food and wine. This week, a particular thanks to Jackeline who took care of us and her colleague Colin. Will continue to recommend this address. Thanks

Based on a recommendation and TripAdvisor reviews, we reserved a table at Hillstone on our recent, and first, visit to NYC. It was our last night, so we wanted the evening to be special. Quite frankly, the evening could not have started worse. Everything that could have gone wrong did, from being allocated a table in the busy bar area, to wine problems. It was not what we had hoped for and we made our views clear to the hostess. A sign of a good establishment is how such issues are addressed, and the reason for my 4 star rating is Hillstone could not have handled this episode any better ... 1. They immediately moved us to a really nice table. 2. They offered us a complimentary appetizer 3. The manager visited our table to offer her personal apologies From then on everything went perfectly. The food was very good and the service impeccable. At the end of the meal, the manager again offered her apologies and made a considerable gesture regarding the final bill. We left happy and with the intention of returning to Hillstone next time we;re in NYC.

I come here strictly for the seasonal grilled artichoke. They only have it a few times a year when of course artichokes are in season. They make them perfectly and the sauce that they serve it with is like no other. They offer sushi, and have veggie burgers on the menu as well. The food is good, and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. good spot for a quick work lunch, family dinner or a date. The staff is however not the friendliest. the girls at the front have a lot of attitude.

Some peoplle will like this throw back to the 80s upscale bar and grille feel...i don't. The food is diverse...something for everyone. I don't find myself thinking that there is a real.chrf involved rather it feels like the kitchen is run by competent cooks and sushi chefs. The food is solid...but that's it for me thank you.

Awesome food and service. Quiet hidden gem. Steaks are to die for. Really good sides too. (One of us had nothing but sides).

We spent my birthday at Hillstone a couple of s weeks ago, but it was not as good as it used to be. We were disappointed the past two times. To begin, the server came to the table, and they must've imported him from London. He spoke with a British accent we could not understand. He was beyond pretentious besides. Luckily for us, he was quickly replaced, not by our request, but we liked the new server better for sure. Now for the food... As I said before, as of our last visit, they don't make blue cheese dressing anymore, and still won't. I was going to get soup instead of salad, but there was nothing I wanted because the chili soup was out of season. So, I tried the Caesar Salad, which was awful. Croutons was chewy and soggy, dressing was sour and lemony. It didn't even come close to tasting like a Caesar Salad! Even adding goat cheese and some sort of dressing the waiter suggested, was awful. A big miss. I used to get the nice little house salad when they still had blue cheese. I wasn't wild about beets and walnuts in that salad. I hate pretentious salads. Caesar was worse though. Either way, the dressing they have is lousy, and so I don't recommend their salads at all. Coconut shrimp roll was great, shrimp cocktail high quality with a good cocktail sauce. I didn't try the other Rolls but my family loved them. I got the Hawaiian Pineapple Ribeye. It was nice and as ordered, but too much fat on it, so I returned it for a leaner one. It was good but they should offer a dipping side of the marinade, which they don't. It came with a great stuffed potato, this time they didn't forget it. Far better than those terrible shoe string fries that have no substance. My husband got the New York Strip, which was good, but looked more like a filet! It was thick and not a long strip. More like a New York STUMP! Was good though, and they had A1 sauce, which he likes better than the Lea and Perrin sauce he hated from last time. Since it was my birthday there was dessert my family arranged, which was a delicious brownie, and I got Key Lime Pie too, which we all shared. The meal was pretty good, but now really all I like is the shrimp coconut roll and the Hawaiian Pineapple Steak. I guess that's ok, but I miss having a good salad. We will go back eventually, but will try some other places for awhile.

We wanted a more low-key dinner on a Sunday night and went with our family to Hillstone. The service was very good. Nothing was extremely fancy culinary-wise, but it was just good food. It would be a perfect place for a low-key date, dinner with family (which is what we did) or business meeting.

Staff were super friendly and helpful and food was great. Massive portions however definitely over priced. Ambience was lovely for an evening out and cocktails were yum

I thought it would be simple. A lunch reservation one week in advance. 5 people; me and my 4 staff members. Teambuilding. The insurmountable problem is the restaurant take reservations for parties up to 4 people. Wow. I was told I could walk in, but hey, NYC can be a busy place at lunch time. No problem, I will ask to speak to the manager. The nice young man, as soon as he heard I have a party of five, needed to hear no more. "You can walk in". In my frustration I told him I will not walk in I will find another restaurant (I don't need to go searching mid-town east for another restaurant that will take me), and asked if that was okay with him. "Sure". I accept that I am not important to the Hillstone Restauraut. I wonder if your group will be?

The Hillstone food is very good, the problem is not being able to converse with one's table mates. Lots of males at tables. Loud males. We had shrimp cocktail, hamachi salad, crab cakes and Thai steak salad, all good, as is the Key Lime Pie. Active bar scene. Be warned. It is jumping.

What an amazing place for an English visitor to NYC to enjoy. Great food with an open griddle and an upmarket US style restaurant with convivial NYC bar setting making for a classy venue in the classic New York style. A thoroughly enjoyable visit and one that I would highly recommend if you are looking for well-heeled clientele and a real New York vibe.

Outstanding food sadly spoilt by the attitude of management. Food was as good as expected. Sitting at a 4 seater table and wanted to pull up a chair when we saw a friend and manager would not allow it. Poor taste given that 4 people were eating full expensive meals.

I visited Hillstone for lunch about 3 times. I like the food. I work in the area. My fave dish is the welldone Burger and Fries. The bun for the Burger is made in house by hand and so are the fries. There are chicken, seafood, and salad dishes that my colleagues ordered and loved. You must do a reservation. It is always crowded. There are many offices in the area and people go for lunch, dinner, and the bar during the weekday. The waitstaff is amazing. They bring you water, drinks, extra napkins, your meal and the bill in a timely manner. I have completed lunch in about an hour or just under. They understand the customer and will offer dessert, coffee, tea or the check after your meal is finished. You will like this restaurant if you go as a couple, groups of friends or with family.

Hillstone is a solid restaurant, with a dark, clubby atmosphere. The steak salad (which I substituted chicken for the steak) was quite good. Crab cakes were excellent, and the cocktail menu was innovative. We went on a beautiful sunny evening in June; as the restaurant is very dark, it probably is a great colder weather destination.

We were staying nearby and called the restaurant for a reservation before coming for dinner on a week night. We were assured the restaurant was not busy and we would be seated immediately. It wasn't ten minutes later we arrived and were told it was a 30-minute wait. We mentioned the name of the person who we spoke with and the hostess merely shrugged her shoulders. We have eaten here in a previously during visits to NY and will NEVER return.

We had been to the Hillstone in Coral Gables and loved it, so we thought we would take the kids too when in NYC. We didn’t book and had to wait, but when food is this good it was worth it. The staff made us feel welcome and looked after us in the bar while waiting. We had a mix of steaks, ribs and burgers and chicken and everyone loved it. Best ribs I’ve tasted (and we went to another specialist BBQ restaurant while in town, and the Hillstone ones win hands down). Oh, and the ‘slaw! Also 10/10. Portions huge too. Exceptional service and a cool, classy environment. Please please open in the UK.

Stopped in for birthday take out. Knew I wanted their ribs but someone in our party had food restrictions so it might not have worked out. The restaurant staff despite being super busy helped us find something suitable and safe. People were friendly and eager to help. I can’t say enough about their country ribs. I don’t often eat such indulgent foods but, man, those ribs are worth the calories! They are consistently rich and fall-off-the-bone tender. I’ll be back next time I visit NYC.

Went here for date night with my boyfriend of four months but a friend of the famuly for 20+yrs. I am not a meat eater as much as I am a taster so this was his choice. Our night wasn't about romance so much as it was sharing our taste for great food. First, a reservation is highly suggested, which we of course had. We went to the Park Avenue South location so don't expect much in the way of parking on the street, but we lucked up right down the block. This place was crowded from the front tables, around the bar and all the way to the back of the restaurant. It appeared to be a great afterwork or for the locals place to be. Service was great and attentive from the moment we sat down. The menu wasn't overwhelming. To start we had the chilled jumbo shrimp, I had the Scottish Salmon meal, with cauliflower puree (like mashed potato) and I could not tell in taste that it wasn't and actual potato. He had the Hawaiian rib eye with a baked potato. Needless to say I finished my meal with not a morsel left and I tasted his steak and it was tasty as well but again I am a taster. We both had mojitos and he had an Albita beer which is a dark Louisana beer with his steak. (I think he just enjoys that part of my family roots) Drinks were perfect and no dessert. I didn't take pictures because I wanted to be in the moment but overall great ambiance, great food two tasty mojitos and great company made for a great experience at Hillstone!

Hillstone/ Houston’s, I’m never quite sure which it is but I do believe they are the same restaurant under the same umbrella. No matter the name and no matter which one you go in any state it is consistently excellent. Their Restaurants are always clean. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The food is varied and always terrific. They make an amazing artichoke. A fabulous French dip sandwich and many excellent salads. Last but certainly not least Their customer service is exemplary.

This is a restaurant that is part of group or chain in many cities in the US. Our first time to visit the restaurant in some state somewhere around 2002. After that time we visited this chain many times in different states even when after they changed name. The reason for the name change was, I believe, that they did not want to be called a chain restaurant, which they in reality are. But a high price such restaurant. We were longing for BBQ ribs and we called this restaurant and asked when the lunch ended. We were informed 5 PM. We arrived before 4 PM and were seated and got the dinner menu not the lunch menu. We asked at the entrance and also a waitress why we got the dinner menu and not the lunch menu and had two different answers one - lunch ends 4 PM and then the other 5 PM! We were also approach by a kind of manager who claimed that the restaurant had no policy regarding lunch and dinner times. She also stated that they were flexible regarding lunch and dinner menu. I stated that we had visited their other restaurants in other states and she stated that some were not even open for lunch. A short fact-check did not confirm her statement. She also stated that they did not belong to chain restaurant! - which they do. It is rather irritating for a customer to have these types of discussions and I believe the staff, including the manager, should attend an internal course and/or special training - never argue with a customer in cases as this. It seems to be a general attitude that they are never wrong! We do dot expect to have the lunch menu at 6 PM. There is of course a policy and that was why we called before visiting the restaurant. Then when the bill was presented it was based upon the dinner menu and not the lunch menu pricing! This one waitress became aware of and gave us an adjusted bill. The suggested tip was based upon the cost before tax. How about the food? We had a bottle of wine. We shared a Spinach dip and had a BBQ Pork Rib each. It was as expected.

I really enjoy visiting Hillstone as it, at least in those years and those visits, has kept the standard. The food is good with a nice variety of both Sushi as well as steak, which makes it easy if the company you’re in desire different types of food. It is a quite lively place and good for after work, so just a small “beware of” that you might have to stand by the bar for the whole evening if you haven’t made a reservation, and it gets quite crowded at the bar. Also the service can be a bit slow.

Chosen for a dinner near the hotel. The menu is a bit for everyone, they don't have placemats on the table. The atmosphere is nice but it's a bit dark. The waitress brought us the bill without us asking and without asking if we wanted dessert or anything...

Came in with a girlfriend for dinner. We had one glass of wine each that we got from the bar while waiting for our table & we tried to order another drink after we finished our meal to be told by our server & the manager that we could not be served any more because we had been over served. For reference, we arrived around 6pm & left around 8:15pm. I frequent the Dallas location as a Dallas resident & the lack of service without an explanation was beyond anything I've ever experienced. Will never be back to the NYC location. The one glass of wine, in question, pictured, along with our receipt. Would love Hillstone to refute this review with the security footage.

Visited New York for a week in June 2019 We came across this restaurant by chance as could not get to the restaurant we planned due to the Pride carnival and by god i loved it, far from cheap but worth every buck I had a beer and my partner had a cocktail while we waited on a table, we got seated and our orderd taken, we opted for shared nacho starter, absolutely amazing. I went for the ribs and omg melted in your mouth and think i had the whole beast, My partner went for the burger and shes so paranoid that it has to be well done and they delivered and she loved it I cannot recommend this place highly enough All staff friendly and courteous throughout on both occasions and deserve great appreciation We will be back next year for sure

Dined here May 5th and was pleasantly surprised to run into Nick Siegel who I have reviewed previously at the Hillstone location at E 53rd st. Nick is such a professional and friendly person and the restaurant was so busy he was helping serve food which to me is a great sign of a manager. We dine at Hillstone a lot and I found out Nick moved to another location and now has returned home to NYC. Nick is the epitome of how Hillstone (Houston's) corporation is run. Our server Jason was also incredible and we plan to dine with him on our next visit. Obviously, I recommend Hillstone (Houston's) restaurants wherever they exist in the US

The place is huge! But everything is so classy, service is great. Please try the spinach dip and the ribs, you are going to love everything!

We enjoyed the experience so much. Service was perfect, food was typical american juicy. The Burger is a blast, the fried chicken sandwich was tasty, the sushi was delicious, the grilled chicken salad and the noddles salad were both fresh and perfect. It’s a bit dark inside. You need to book. It’s good for a group, kids with a 16yrs old attendant, and couples. They have a bar area where you can enjoy their mixes and your meal.

Very busy to get into but worth it. We had a wonderful family meal where everyone had a great meal and a fab time. The sushi was great, spicy tuna Osaka style was to die for. NY strip was succulent and the ribs were melt in the mouth. Really no criticism I would give.

While the bar-side service and appetizers were great, the meals were not up to standard. The steak appeared grey and tough, and since I BBQ weekly, it was far more than likely precooked and not fresh on and off the grill. The String fries could not replace a baked potato, which was off the menu. The menu is far shorter than in past years, and this is why we feel it is not on the top of our list anymore. It also bewilders me that what is 4 star opportunity to deliver quality from front to back, a decent coffee has not existed at the end of any meal in 15 years and dozens of dining events at Houston’s/Hillstone Restaurants. And this fix is so easy.

The Houston's restaurant (chain) in Westbury, Long Island had always been one of our favorites. Hillstone is their fixture in the city with the same basic menu....which remains fantastic. Had one of the best steaks (teriyaki) ever. Done perfect and melted in my mouth. Note: had a soft shell "Po-boy" the week before in a Houston's in New Jersey and it was equally as enjoyable. Two of the best meals I have had...ever ! Highly, highly recommended.

we love this restaurant. especially the seared tuna salad. two days ago it was changed. THE NEW VERSION DOESNT MEET THE EXPECTATIONS.it is not tasty at all ,quire boring and tasteless. please restore the old tuna salad

Came here on a recommendation!! Food was fantastic! Service was average in my opinion...quite slow! Long waits once ordered. Then a mistake of $100 on the bill...simple to fix! No waited 20mins while one waitress went to every waiter to see what had happened or check we were right! However, I would recommend the sushi as a starter and the ribs

After a wonderful holiday in NYC, we spent our last evening having dinner at Hillstone, and it was all fantastic! The atmosphere was beautiful (gorgeous jazz music playing and the lighting was perfect), the service was incredibly friendly and helpful and personal, and the food/drinks were spot-on! I’m recommending Hillstone to everybody that I know for when they travel to New York!

Service people robotic and inflexible. Reservations at the bar ridiculous. We sat at a hightop of which I believe there are only 2 and at those tables you can only order bar food not the dinner menu and at the bar you can order from the dinner menu. makes alot of sense to me - not. The food is great but attitudinally this place sucks and inflexible rules. Reservations for the bar, no parties of more than a certain amount at the bar. Too many other places to go to....

I came here for lunch with a couple of friends cause we had heard great things about it. We were well greeted and everyone was so polite! The menu items all looked delicious and we wanted to try everything. The portions are HUGE and the food was great. The place is spacious and comfortable, we had a great time.

Was recommended by a friend and am delighted we went. Tried for a reservation and was told they did not have any but welcome to try to walk in. We took a chance and sat as a two top near bar on a very busy Friday. We started with some drinks, ceasar salad and split a ribeye. The staff was a pleasure, food delicious. We look forward to coming back or trying there other location on Park Ave. Enjoy!

The most unpleasant host with an attitude Telling us the only thing available was at bar Was do turned off we walked out even though there were seats at bar An I have eaten there many times

We were in NY for a conference and decided to stay over due to inclement weather. We visited Hillside restaurant in Manhattan for the first time and sat at the bar. The live jazz band was a wonderful backdrop and the bartenders made us feel right at home. I had a veggie burger and my husband had the salmon. Both meals were incredible and the wine was delicious. Max, our server was really friendly making us feel welcome and at home. We would recommend Hillside to those with upscale taste and people watching. The incredible service is a nice bonus.

Lovely atmospheric restaurant. Great separate bar area and excellent selection of drinks. Service was excellent and staff were charming and helpful. Food was sublime. The seared ahi tuna was amazing. Steaks are huge! (see pic) We had a shared starter, 2 mains, 2 cocktails, 2 beers and the bill was $140 before tip. We also had 2 complimentary glasses of fizz because it was our anniversary!

I’m a New Yorker. I frequent this spot! It is my go to steak house. If you’re in the area, GO!!! Make reservations online - even for lunch, you’ll need reservations. Their lunch sandwich special, the French dip is amazing. Mouth watering!!! The steaks are delightful. The loaded baked potatoes are incredible. Their Thai chicken salad is a party in your mouth. The ribs... the ribs... now get these for a starter or to share with the table! They fall off the bone. Perfect amount of sauce. And if you can’t make up your mind order sushi too! The coconut roll was impressive. The service here is always 10/10! I go here about 2 times per month and if I were a millionaire I’d go here much more.

It is a very good place to go with friends Bar is good with a nive environment. Barbeque ribs are amazing as well as pork chops Service was very good

This is absolutely my NYC’s favourite restaurant. I go there all the time with all my friends or family that come visit me for meat, steaks, burgers or sushi. Just I would prefer to wait less cause even with reservation I always wait too much

As an executive in the food media space, I know what good hospitality looks like—and this is not it. Hillstone Park Avenue has declined rapidly under the current management. The manager, Angelyn (Angie), in particular, has displayed shockingly unprofessional behavior that has no place in the hospitality industry. The management and staff are untrained, inexperienced, and consistently rude to customers. There is a noticeably high turnover resulting in poor service. Instead of creating a welcoming environment, they take their stress out on paying customers, and the prices aren't cheap. As a local, I used to be a loyal regular here for the consistent food, drinks, and atmosphere, but now every visit comes with an operations issue and disrespectful behavior from the help. What was once a reliable neighborhood spot has become a disappointing and unpleasant hassle. There are plenty of better options in the area—take your business elsewhere. Hillstone Park Avenue is no longer worth it.

I have eaten before at this restaurant and have always enjoyed the food and service. So, on a Saturday early evening, our party of two showed up for an early dinner. For starters, we ordered the shrimp cocktail. I must say the shrimp was delicious, large and fresh, and more like mini-lobsters than shrimps. I know, let's call them 'shrimpsters'. Anyway, excellent and tasty. For the main curse, we had filet mignon cooked medium with house steak sauce (no sauce bearnaise available), accompanied by a rather tasty salad and French fries. Really excellent cook on the steak, which was seasoned to perfection with a great crust on the outside and tender in the center. All washed down with a lovely Purple Hands Freedom pinot noir. Our server, Lindsay C, was very polite, efficient and helpful. The atmosphere is always busy and friendly. The only reason I did not give an excellent review is because the maitre d' on entry was annoying by demanding I take my hat off while indoors. I would have done so anyway. I did not take this personally because she seemed to be giving lots of customers a hard time on entering the venue. Pity that! I would recommend this restaurant to family and friends.

General Manager Braelyn Chatterjea is a STAR. A friend of mine had dinner at the bar and were served by Juliet (also fantastic). The food and service were top quality. Highly recommend and will be back.

We dropped in on a Sunday at lunch. Reservations would have been in order but we secured a couple of seats at the bar. Service was fast and smart. We shared the Kale Chicken Salad and the Cheddar burger. Both were awesome and among the best we have tried in our travels.

I’ve been to the Coral Gables restaurant and NY doesn’t disappoint. My favourite is the French Dip sandwich. Prime rib sliced thinly with a gravy dip and shoestring fries. Simply delicious. The whole menu is great including the freshly prepared sushi. Some nice cocktails on offer and a good wine list. This upmarket American diner type restaurant is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Walk ins are fine so long as you’re dressed smart casual. I scrapped in with jeans and a Yankees shirt! If you’re looking for a smart American dining experience the. This is the place. Dark wood tables and booths or curved couch seats give the place a kind of country club feel which adds to the experience. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Great place.

Best ever spinach dip, veggie burger and mash potatoe. Expensive but truly satisfying add the key lime pie!!!!

Just before going back home from JFK we had lunch in one of our favorite places on NYC, where the food never disappoints. We started with pan-seared ahi tuna salad and yellowtail sashimi salad. We had a chilled jumbo shrimp served with cocktail and remouladevsalad sauces, we added some seasonal green vegetables snd a glass of Pascal Jolivet '16, It was the perfect way to close our wonderful trip.

This is easily one of my favorite lunch spots in NYC, and I frequent it often. The food is predictably scrumptious and I have tried most of the items on the menu. I would fault this Hillstone for 2 things: 1) They can't turn your table fast enough. They bus any plate as soon as you are done and couldn't care less if your fellow diners are still eating. Sadly, I believe they are trained to do this. 2) Even though they have a very nice outdoor dining option, they have closed it. This eliminates business from those of us who would love to eat there, but still do not feel comfortable eating indoors. It's surprising to me that with Covid 19 still so rampant, they would make this business decision. Lastly, Hillstone is certainly not cheap, but I think it is worth it.

I like my steak and ‘my oh my’, the prime rainbow rib that I had here, will rank right up there. First night in NY (Sunday) and had a sudden craving for steak. I was at E26 anyways and TA showed me this restaurant. Went in but table for 1 had a 25 min wait. But the lady kindly took me to bar area and said if you don’t want to wait and aren’t fussy about a table, you can have food here. Looked around and all chairs were taken except one. Sat down and was immediately attended by a waitress. Ordered prime rainbow rib and skinny fries and a drink. Food took about 15-20 min though the restaurant was super busy. The first bite I took said all I wanted to know - tender, juicy, I guess a standard knife would’ve cut through the steak. Kudos to the chef and everyone else. Will be my first stop on all future visits.

This was a great find. My husband and I share a platter of 4 vegetables for an appetizer. Fantastic! Try the red cabbage and goat cheese. The salmon was perfect. With mashed potatoes and heirloom cauliflower. Very impressive and delicious. He had a burger, and loved it. The fries are potato stick style —he had trouble eating them gracefully. The prices are on the higher side, but what a treat!

Lovely setting, brilliant vibe & energy, good service and good food. Generous portions and fairly priced.

I frequently come here and was surprised that the fries have changed. They are not good. The chicken sandwich changed as well. It's mostly bread. The Asian noodle salad portion has also changed. I am not sure what is going on. It's my first time being disappointed. the service was great as always.

Can’t go wrong at Hillstone. Constantly great service and a front desk staff which always goes above and beyond. Would highly suggest going here on your visit. The burger is out of this world and the sushi is a good appetizer to start off any mail at this consistently Great Restaurant.

We booked a place in the restaurant for 9:15 and when we arrived we were informed that the kitchen closes at 9:30. And it was very stressful. We came especially for their flagship dish, ribs, and when we arrived we found out that the menu says that the stock is limited and there really aren't any left. It is not written on their website. The rest of the dishes are boring and not special. Without a choice, we ordered a fillet steak that arrived charred and not very tasty. We really recommend not coming to this restaurant. And no wonder their restaurants are closing one after the other.

Perfect location, ambiance with plenty of food options for everyone in our party of 5. The Spinach dip is always a must for my crew. Wine options by the bottle and by the glass are plentiful and delicious.... service is attentive and never rushed. Thank you for an excellent girl's night out.

You always know what to expect at a Hillstone. They always make you wait, even if you have a reservation (a bit annoying); there's usually a busy and noisy bar and moody low lighting throughout. The dinning room will be large and clubby. At this one the restaurant was busy but comfortable and service was quick and efficient. Best of all, the food was good. Sure it's not particularly imaginative but it was well made and tasty comfort food and fairly well priced.

After 6 years missing the sparerips I went with the whole family and friend. Still the best rips in NY

This will be one of my new go-to places when I am in New York. Loved the booth, loved the Deborah Butterfield sculpture when you come in ( not familiar with her- how about this- that sculpture starts at about a million dollars...) anyhow , we started with the grilled artichoke which was the best I have ever had. I will never not order that-- Our salads, mine seared tuna , her's chicken, were both gorgeously presented, very ample, and totally tasty. We had very good wine by the glass with a lot of really nice guidance by our waiter. My friends husband joined us later and he had some great sushi that we tasted. Good Lattes to end with. Everything was really done perfectly- we had great service and we so liked the vibe we stayed for 5 hours! ( and no one bothered us)...

Was told that they make a great burger. Good, even very good (but not as good as Peter Luger’s lunch burger). Decent service. Dark, clubby atmosphere.

The blonde hostess, was very rude and useless twice. I was unable to sit and enjoy the place twice because of the same lady. WILL not go back

I go to Hillstone very often, and the food is always great. However, on multiple occasions, this Wednesday being one of them, I had a reservation and they still made me wait 25+ minutes to be seated. When the waiter finally greeted us we told him about our long wait and he didn't seem to care. Overall, the food is solid. I got the kale salad with chicken and my friend got the veggie burger. A little over priced for what it is, but if you are in the neighborhood the food never disappoints.

A shame because it has a fantastic location and premises. Staff with no experience (starting with the hostess). Terrible bar service ( couldn’t prepare a bloody mary because it was not on a weekend!). Horrible food (pork ribs)

We enjoyed having lunch at the Hillstone Park restaurant. The pork chops are the signature dish, and they were beyond expectations. Burger and Sushi were also excellent.

Comfortable surroundings and a simple upscale menu. Thai tuna sushi was really pleasant much to my surprise Clientele is very much business based at lunch but that should not detract in anyway.

We had a great lunch meal here. It was packed at lunch and the sushi was good. We got several to try and they all would be worth getting again.

Pros - nice location plenty of seating - bar is a large area with plenty of seating - ambiance is perfect - menu has something for everyone - nice wine menu -food is really delicious - staff is friendly and very helpful Cons (not really) - it’s not cheap but hey it’s NYC - you need to get there before 6:30 to get a table if you don’t have a reservation Really a great place for lunch or dinner. Make sure you get there early or have a reservation. Not a lot of large tables for bigger parties.

Went To Hillstone before Knick Game. Atmosphere was good, though a bit dark inside. Short wait for table. Service was accommodating and helpful in ordering. Started with Sushi and Artichoke Dip, both were spot on. For entrees Had the signature ribs, which were plentiful and had great flavor. Other diners had the Cheeseburger which was quite large and tasty. French dip was also large and flavorful. Thin fries reminded me of child hood snacks.

Joined several co-workers for lunch. Was my first time here. Place is nice looking. Service was outstanding and food is great. Had sushi with a macadamia coating. It was really good. Also had the spinach artichoke dip which is delicious. I had the french dip sandwich. Thin sliced prime rib piled high on a french roll. Its outstanding.

I must be missing something . . . superb service, food & atmosphere and very reasonable priced food! Could not recommend a better restaurant in NYC!

stopped by after i helped my daughter move in for college. the restaurant was very close by. like always, new york has amazing food service was just as great.

Met our son here who lives in Manhattan. We have tried various lunch places. Hillstone has been the best by far. I had the burger. It was cooked to perfection. Shoestring potatoes are excellent. My wife had the crab cake salad. Said it was one of the best crab cakes ever. We live part time in Annapolis MD, so we know good crab cakes. High praise for them at Hillstone. Our server, Austin, was friendly and efficient. My wife is lactose intolerant and Austin helped her with the menu to get something mike product free. Prices are a bit steep ($24 burger) for someone who lives outside of NYC. But, for a quality lunch in Manhattan they are inline in my view. Also, consider reservations as Hillstone was quite busy.

We stopped in to Hillstone last evening. Formerly Houston's Steakhouse. We have the spinach artichoke dip. Hawaiian Ribeye and the Delmonico. Very good service and food was great. Nice location in off 53rd. Definitely worth the trip.

I've been to Hillstone with co-workers after long flights from Iceland as well as a dinner with my boyfriend. I've always had an extremely good service, with great and happy staff. The dinner has been mouth watering but I highly recommend the Thai Steak & Noodle Salad as well as the Spinach & Artichoke Dip...... yum

I had just got into NYC for the weekend and I was tired from traveling and all I had eaten that day was pizza so I wanted a nice Caesar salad my dad and I went here and the salad was just amazing it hit the spot. Very fresh and yummy!! The hostesses were very helpful and accommodating! 😊

It’s December 5, 2021 and the place is empty. I ask for a table for 2 and am told everything is booked. So we sit at the bar to have lunch. The food is good but it’s a large restaurant and not one table is occupied. When I left, half the tables were still empty. I call that Bull$hit!

Hillstone is the perfect fusion of a casual dining restaurant and a steakhouse; Think Cheese Cake meets Wolfgang. I felt a tad under-dressed tbh with my striped linen pants and plain white T. But it's a Luxury Touch Banana Republic white T so...yeah... I'm like that. We pulled up a bit late and when we checked in for our res the hostess said "You guys are late..." in a bit of a snippy tone. But to be fair we were like 25 minutes late lol I'd be annoyed too if I was her. I need to chill. We sat down for food and I came for the burger, but I just couldn't get my eyes off the lamb sandwich for some odd reason. I asked our server, Joel, what the move was and he began selling the lamb sandwich like he got paid a commission on it. I had no choice but to pull the trigger. The sandwich came with, get this, SHOESTRING fries. This is a big deal for me, because I think shoestring fries are far superior to every other cut of fry... well now that I type this out steak fries are a close 2nd. Some of y'all still really out here eating regular cut fries lmaaaaaooooooooo. COULDN'T BE ME! Anyways, Joel made a sensational decision on selling that lamb sandwich. Quality lamb with the bread melting in your mouth. My big bro got the burger and said it was his favorite in the city thus far. He was just here last week too. Big bro is the bread man! IG: @jnov_

Went for a late night dinner. The atmosphere was great, and we were seated quickly. Our server was friendly and funny, a Broadway actress doing some extra work. She was very good. The food here was delicious. We had the spicy tuna sushi and beef dip. Dessert was a fudge/ice cream sunday that was to die for. Overall we had a 5/5 meal here. Wish we were in nyc longer so we could go back!

I had great service at Hillstone and enjoyed a very nice, yet reasonably priced lunch on a weekday. I enjoyed some sushi and it was excellent. Comfy tables with plenty of helpful attention from the staff. I would recommend this restaurant for a nice business lunch or just a friendly gathering with family. It is a relief to enter a very large spacious restaurant in midtown (with good A/C)!

Turnin' around the world's greatest town, you can find everything.. But there's always a place, a favourite place, that remains in our minds and in our hearts, mostly talkin' about food. Hillstone is the answer, not only for your hungry, but for your eyes too. Excellent bread, bloody beef and a timeless sushi. Price ? Prices when we're in NyC doesn't mind .

This is one of my boyfriend and I’s favorite restaurants (they have another by the same name in midtown also). He gets the French dip with fries and I get the roasted chicken. The food is always delicious and fresh and the service couldn’t be better. Hillstone is a great restaurant for date night, getting together with friends, any occasion really. The ambiance is great, very classy but not too fancy or anything - I have nothing but good things to say about it!

Made a visit here after a tour in Midtown and was really pleased with the choice. I ordered the Dutch chicken, which is a great-sized portion, while my mom ordered the pan seared salmon and a loaded jacket potato. Both mains were fantastic and the wine pairings great. Drinks plus mains for two came to about $90, so about what you'd expect for a higher end Midtown meal. The staff was friendly and fast, so no complaints there. Loved it and will visit again :)

First piece of advice, make a reservation. However, I was lucky enough to find a seat the bar which also serves the full menu. My burger was very good. But very pricey; however, this is Manhattan. The staff and bartenders were friendly and provided great service. You can get salads, steaks and even a burger. It's a very popular place for a reason. The food is good. It was very convenient to my hotel (Hotel Giraffe)

This is my sons favorite restaurant no matter if it’s in New York or Scottsdale and it’s ribs and their hot fudge sundae. The ribs are fall off the bone with the best bbq sauce. I order them well done because I like them a bit crispy. It comes with fries and slaw. My wife who would normally get the salmon even ordered them and said they were over the top good. To end the meal if you still have some room, order the hot fudge sundae. Large servings and worth the calories. The service at all the Hillstone restaurants are solid. They are attentive and make sure the dining experience if perfect.

A very elegant restaurant. The food and wine excellent. The staff are competent yet charming. A really good dining experience.

I feel this place is a little underated, food and staff were both exceptional. We had the filet steak and whilst it was a little expensive it was delicious, cooked to perfection and i certainly do not mind paying for quality. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and this made for a great experience. Excellent all round

Family favorite restaurant in Santa Monica , we were disappointed by this venue in NYC. Food and service nowhere near our expectations of previous Hillstone restaurants

Friendly people, great bar (gets crowded) and very good food. Bartender took my half finished martini and poured it in to a new frosted glass. Kind of a neat touch. Mixed crowd as far as sex and age. Some tourists and some regulars. I would be very comfortable as a solo man or woman eating here

One of NYC faves. The Spinach dip and ribs are out of this world. Hillstone’s food and service are first rate.

We arrived as a family, we were 6 people. My mother, who is an elderly person, my children who are 12 years old and one who is 8 years old, and my boyfriend. The hostess told us that they could not receive tables of 6. We told him that we could make 2 tables. She told us that was impossible. So I called the manager “Roberto” and he told us the same thing that they couldn't give 2 tables to which I asked him what the reason was. And he answered that because he already knew that we came together. (the answer seemed absurd to me) he told me that they couldn't because he didn't want one table to move to the other later. We told him that this should not happen, that the only thing we wanted was to eat and not eat on the table. He immediately went to check if they could give us the tables and when he returned, with a despotic and mocking manner he did not say “We don't want to serve you” we asked him what had happened and he told us smiling “We are simply not going to serve you” we don't know what the real truth was. reason . But he was a racist and very rude person.

The food and drinks are consistently excellent. The service works together like a really talented dance troupe. It's a cool, comfortable space. A tad on the high side, but the value is evident. The ribs (which we've been eating for years) sort of redefines the rib experience - decadent and refined at the same time which is a pretty cool parlor trick in our book. We hate that it's always busy and love that it's always really, really good.

Yet another trip to Hillstone, and more to come, we arrived for the first time, with a reservation, as we were with family, and wanted to make sure we'd have no problem getting a table. We went on a Sunday afternoon, which is never crowded. It was of course, an unexpected surprise, that with the reservation we had to wait. We arrived before our reservation time, and had to persuade the hostess and manager to seat us before the other half of our party arrived. A lot of restaurants in Manhattan, make a big deal of your party having to be there before you can be seated. Why can't you wait at your table, get the party started? No one seems to subscribe to that theory when it comes to dining in New York City. So we got a great round booth all the way in the back, at the top of the ramp that leads to the bathrooms. Although we were right outside the bathroom, we were not disturbed at all. We were quite comfortable and as usual, Hillstone has a great relaxed vibe. All dark and with what I call new wave jazz type of music to set the mood. I loved my seat, as I could see everyone coming in. Which to my surprise this time, included lot's of BABIES EVERYWHERE! Now, our own baby is a grown up, but I never would've bought her in here when she was a baby. I still feel it's unfair for parents to not alter some aspects of their lives when becoming parents, this is an area I think most parents refuse to face reality about. You need to change your life now that you're a parent, and this is one of those times. Even on a Sunday afternoon, just NOT a baby and child type place as far as I am concerned. Please fellow parents, you must face that fact that Hillstone is not a restaurant where one should bring crying babies and small noisy kids who bang on tables and kick chairs. Naturally, there is no such thing as an adults only restaurant, so you cannot turn people away with their tiny offspring patrons in tow. So now, restaurants depend on YOU, proud new parent, to have some sense of proper decorum, and respect for your fellow diners. If you're going out, go to an appropriate kid friendly type of venue. I am no hypocrite, we literally did NOT go to restaurants at all, until our daughter was old enough to behave in a restaurant. I just would feel embarrassed to be a nuisance to others, yet many of you out there, could not give a wet diapers contents, about how you ruin other peoples meals who are paying good money to enjoy the moment! Hillstone is meant to be an ELEGANT dining experience, with soft jazz, and dark romantic vibe. When people start coming in with carriages and kids running around and screaming, it turns into TGI Fridays! There's nothing WRONG with TGI Fridays, I go there too as you can see, but don't make Hillstone into it, just dine appropriately for your situation. It really RUINS the mood, and since we are parents, we get it, we have been there, it's not easy to alter your life, and put certain things on hold that you enjoy, but we did it. We actually stayed home those early years, so now we have to right not to have YOUR little ones, inflicted on us. While some babies are quiet, and some children are well behaved, please know which kind you created, and act accordingly. Well quiet, and behaved children are fine to bring, and I have no problem with a quiet well behaved child. Ask yourself, does your baby cry a lot? Does your young child stand on the booth, stare at the people in the next booth, kick the chairs so everyone feels it, bang silverware so everyone hears it, run up and down the aisles? If so, please refrain from dining here. Now onto the food and service. Our waitress was good and attentive. Most of the help here is good, once in awhile not so much, but this was a good experience. We had two shrimp cocktails, and lot's of different sushi rolls for appetizers. The only one I have is the coconut shrimp roll, which is delicious. We love that they use soy paper instead of seaweed to wrap their rolls as well. All excellent as usual. I didn't get a salad, because their salads no longer appeal since they stopped making their excellent blue cheese dressing. They did not have the chili soup yet, it was not in season, but by now I am sure it will be. I don't normally eat chili, but theirs is amazing, so I was disappointed they didn't have it available yet. We also got a Spinach Dip, which they do up, scrumptiously. Lot's of dipping chips served with, enough for all. I got the Hawaiian Rib Eye, my favorite steak, and it's delicious. Marinaded in a wonderful sweet pineapple glaze. My only complaint is that you can't get extra glaze, so I get balsamic to go with it on the side for dipping. It came out wonderfully raw blue in the center, just how I ordered it, and the loaded baked potato was fabulous. We also got the Famous Prime Rib sandwich, always a hit. I like to add Jack and Cheddar, because I love cheese on everything. I used to get it each time, until I fell in love with the Hawaiian steak, so I have not gotten it in awhile. I suggest your order the sandwich rare, as the prime rib is best this way. You didn't think I'd say order it well done, did you? No, never me! We also got the Pan Seared Ahi Tuna, and the Scottish Salmon. All got great reviews. Another nice thing about Hillstone is the bathroom, which is always clean, and very private with nice separate cubby's with slatted doors that have knobs, and turning locks that provide total privacy. It also features that same jazzy music piped in, which is always great. It is my belief that all public restrooms should provide loud music! Hillstone is one of our go to restaurants, despite a few changes that I was disappointed with like their salad selections, but still somewhere we like to return to again and again, when it's time to dine in New York City!

My friend and I decided to take a day trip to NYC. After walking around for a while we decided to stop for lunch. We first checked out restaurant row to see what our options were, unfortunately there were not many options, likely due to the pandemic. She has been to the Hillstone on 3rd Ave several time and raved about their food and service so we decided to go to the Park Ave location for lunch. Since we were not on a specific time table we had not made a reservation, there was a 45 minute wait which we did not mind waiting. Once escorted to our table, we order margaritas and the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer. Both were very good. For our entrees, my friend ordered the Thai noodle salad and I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich. Her salad looked very tasty which she confirmed was excellent and my chicken sandwich was amazing! The dressed kale put it over the top. The atmosphere and service were great. Kudos to Jasmine who was our server in training. I look forward to my next visit to Hillstone, I will definitely return.

Recommended by a New Yorker, and just like one, we went for an early diner at Hillston, and had the best food experience in NYC, the restaurant is super nice, with amazing music, a lot of noise which makes it alive and crowded, we had a yummy sushi, the best hamburger and the best ribs ever. Highly recommended to every visitor to new york, no to be missed at all !!

It was our last stop that day after a fun day in NYC. This is the first time at this place, although we have been to their sister restaurant in NJ called Houston’s. As suspected the place was great. We had a drink at the bar because we arrived early. We were able to add another person to our table without a fuss. We were seated at a nice table and we ordered some appetizers to share. We had a few sushi selections and spinach artichoke dip. We were disappointed because the didn’t have the grilled artichokes and shrimp cocktail however the sushi was great and the dip was as good as it always is. For dinner three of us had the strip steak with loaded baked potato, that is amazing. Others had the French dip sandwich and Thai salad. Everything was great. This restaurant group is one of our favorites. We always have a great meal and time. The servers are very professional and friendly.

I love Hillstone and its affiliate restaurants. Always consistent, always great service. I took my mom as she was unfamiliar with the restaurant group and we loved it. Tried the sushi, salmon, and pasta. The wine pours are generous, and the service was stellar.

I'm in NY for work and as usual, a couple of evenings during my stay, I have dinner at Hillstone. The restaurant is located in Manhattan, Park AV with 27th. Always very full. I had a table booked for 7.15pm, but upon arrival they told me that my table was for 8pm. Since it wasn't the first time it had happened, I expressed my disappointment to the person at reception who told me that that was the reserved time. I decide to wait, and after about 15 minutes Angelina arrives and takes me to the bar. That's fine for me, but I made it clear that I wouldn't go anymore. After a while Ben, the general manager's assistant, also arrives to apologise. I really appreciated the gesture.. I order grilled salmon which comes with puree and vegetables. I drink water When I asked for the bill they told me it was fine and they didn't charge me! WOW! I would like to thank Angelina for her professionalism, kindness and attention, and Ben for the gesture that I didn't expect, but which I appreciated very much. An unexpected surprise, People make the difference!!

Reservations are a must for dinner unless you come very early or just before close. Eclectic menu - a few specials - easy to meet any diner's need. We were a party with one vegetarian.... Service was top notch - water refilled, request for condiments readily filled. The house burger is large with excellent shoe string french fries... A fish special was very fresh and perfectly prepared... Not a place where you can linger - the crowd at the door wants to be seated!

Loved this bar on Park Avenue. The food was great, the bar was always buzzing and the staff were really friendly. We actually went here everyday for 5 days during our trip. Would definitely recommend!

Nice restaurant which was very busy (a good sign). The food was very good with generous portions. The veggie burger was enormous and probably the best I have ever had.

Good food. Good service. Good quality. Good drinks. Long wait. Expensive. Good wine. Will recommend for returning.

Love this Chain of Hillstone/ Houston's restaurants. We go for the ribs and they are amazing. Service is good and consistent. My only complaint is that they bring out the food too fast. This is not speciifc to this location but something I find at all their locations. Will obviously be back again and again as it's consistent and delicious.

The atmosphere is very sophisticated and casual. The menu has something for everyone and I can recommend the ribs and the "nice little salad".The full menu has a great variety of both meat and fish.I was at the 54th street location.

This is the same restaurant as the chain Houston's which I often go. The menu is similar, with a couple of additions like sushi and so on. Just like Houston's everything was good. Service was friendly and fast. The two things that I wish they would improve is their accommodation for gluten free customers. Most foods have Gluten. I am limited... Its not a very gluten free friendly restaurant ( neither is Houston's). Its an ideal place to go with teenage kids. Hamburgers and ribs are delicious, which is why I usually end up there. The other issue I have is its too dark.........

Had a great burger here. Good long drinks list too, and Key Lime Pie. Service was very attentive too.

Disappointing experience. I have dined at Houstons in S Florida for 25 years and at Hillstone in San Francisco each time I'm in town and I have become accustomed to the good food and even better service. I'm in NY 3 times per year and each time I go to Hillstone. The past two visits the service has been disappointing to say the least. In April I went with a friend. The food was nice but a man hovered over our table to rush us off to the bar within minutes of paying the check before even finishing our last drink. Think it was a waiter or a manager but he behaved like a bouncer. I went back yesterday for a 2:00 lunch with my daughter and my friend. I have basically memorized the menu after so many years so we ordered the spinach dip as soon as sitting down They forgot to bring it. When it finally came (after they brought the main entrees) it was nice but don't count on enough chips and you won't see a waiter to ask for more until it's gone well cold. Supposedly you get free refills on tea. But that only happens if you see a server before they rush in to hand you the bill and send you away. Don't ask the server to charge your phone. You'll be told to get up and do it yourself. Service is not inspiring. I can see a deterioration over time in customer care and compared to other locations the location at 53rd and Lex was well disappointing.

I like to eat at the bar when I first go to a place to get a feel for vibe. And the help behind the bar is often the best in the house. Hillstone hits all the right notes and it's not crazy expensive - at least not by NYC standards.

Great place to eat. Their ribs which my fiancé and I have every week (Lord help our budget) is phenomenal. Their cocktails are superb. Service is great. Jazz music on point. Why haven’t you visited Hillstone yet?

This is a very popular, crowded Manhattan eatery. I would call it upscale casual. The menu leans heavily towards meat and butter, so if you are vegan or vegetarian, you will be limited in your choices. They offer a nice vegetable plate, but everything is smothered with butter, so if you want to avoid the butter make sure you ask them to leave it off. They were able to make veggies for us with oil. And some can be steamed but it will depend on what veggies they have that day. We ate here on two separate occasions during the weekend we were in manhattan. Since we didn’t have reservations, we opted to hover around the bar and grab a first come first serve seat at the bar, where you can get the full menu. It was a weekend and it was very crowded so it did take some patience to wait for someone to get up from the bar. I highly suggest reservations if you actually want table service. Our first visit was bar service and just getting some appetizers and dessert. Our second visit we were able to snag a bar booth, which is also first come first served. That night we went late for desserts. The staff is amazing. Very engaging and highly trained. The food is all very good but on the heavy side. This is a pricey restaurant, but what you would expect in Manhattan. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because of the prices and the lack of lighter fare or vegetarian choices. But that’s not the menu they are know for, so I don’t really want to fault them. It just limits their clientele since so many are choosing to eat plant based these days. If you are looking for a nice casual meal with engaging servers, and you have money to spend, this is the place for you. If you are looking for vegan fare, or fast casual, I would choose someplace else. I would recommend this restaurant unless you are Vegan. We highly enjoyed both of our visits to Hillstone.

We would like to take the time to let you know how disappointing our last visit to Hillstone on Park Avenue South in NYC was on 12/26/2019. At the time, we didn't know what was on the horizon, and eating in restaurants would soon be put on pause indefinitely. It's a shame our last dining experience in the city, had to be this one! We should tell you that we’ve been to this location numerous times in the past 5 years, and have spent thousands of dollars dining here over those years. I've also written 4 previous reviews, with the good and the bad of our experiences. We've always returned, but after this past experience, we will not! We never just walk in, always making reservations. We do this in the hope of things we request, being fulfilled by the restaurant, and hopefully without problems. We like sitting in certain spots, and so usually, this is accommodated. Unfortunately, this time our very simple request for our favorite table, was NOT fulfilled. No, it was not because the table requested was occupied when we arrived. It was empty, waiting, and we could’ve been seated there easily as the table was open and ready. They said they were cleaning the table which we figured was the one we requested. So we waited. Then while we were walking toward our table that was “ready” we were instead, led to a different table nearby. We made clear this was NOT the table we’d requested to an alleged manager, and pointed out that the one we requested was also vacant at the moment, and we thought THAT ONE waiting for us and ready when we followed her back, but she would not let us have it! We explained we requested it ahead during our reservations, but she wasn't at all interested, and asked us to please have a seat at THIS table and wait for Sydney, who we knew from previous visits. We should’ve gone and stood by the empty table we requested, but out of respect, we sat down at the table they asked us to wait at, for several minutes until Sydney finally came over. We hoped could straighten out this error in seating. Bad mistake being polite and waiting there. Unfortunately, because Sydney did not get to us fast enough while we were seated waiting for our request again for the table of our choice, another party of 4 like us, who actually walked in AFTER us, without a reservation, or even requesting that table, (let alone planning 3 days ahead of time with follow up, and speaking to several staff members about it), then were seated at the table of OUR choice instead! We were ignored on our request, ignored that we waited patiently, and left waiting at the table we didn’t want. Now it was too late to change as these people had been seated, as if we didn't exist! Finally when the general manager Sydney came, these 4 people had already been seated for several minutes as we got some lame excuse that they had a baby, and it counted as a 5th person for that table, a table for FOUR? Actually, the table had NO baby I could see, unless it was under the table, just two couples as we were! Meanwhile, the table we DID get is where all the babies and carriages end up as it actually accommodated 6. These are the tables on the right in the back that have a 4 person booth with 2 additional chairs. People rude and thoughtless enough to come in with babies and carriages, are always seated at the type of booth we ended up in, crammed next to other larger parties. All this made NO sense, but that's what we got as frequent long time customers, who specified and was told OK to our request days before we got there! So we wanted the smaller table and were told we didn’t have enough people for a four person booth, as a party of four, and that they “give it to people with babies” which makes NO sense! The table we wanted is at the top of a ramp and stairs on an aisle, where it’s not good for carriages or wheelchairs, as it’s narrow and servers and patrons have to pass! So, no one intelligent would even WANT to seat people with a baby or carriage there. By the way, this restaurant has become overrun with families with children and the more staff caters to them, the more they’re encouraged when they really belong at an Applebee’s and TGI Fridays. Meanwhile Sydney’s solution was to offer us a table across the way at the top near another group of children, so no thank you. Or even better, we were told we could wait for that just seated party at our requested table to finish, and THEN we could have the table. WHAT?? Wait like 2 hours?? Seriously unbelievable. Aside from that, we went on with the meal at the table they sat us at, and it ruined everyone's mood as you would expect. The waiter Jesse G, was beyond annoyingly overbearing! Looming every minute over us and extremely exaggerated in his speech and mannerisms, babbling away non stop, frantically hovering over us and saying everything was “lovely” that we ordered while rushing us through our courses asking if we were done constantly. Then he was serving food at different times so no one was eating together. He was taking food away while we were still eating it! He kept scampering back and forth and whisking things in front of our faces from the table. He even left a stain on my handbag as he dripped food on it! He kept appearing to take every little ponzu dish from the sushi, and pouring our wine every time someone took a sip making everyone’s glass even in amounts every second until he got to gleefully get rid of the wine bottle. ( $15 Uncorking fee is preposterous too we might add). Meanwhile not all of us wanted wine refills while others would’ve had more but he kept pouring another tiny drop every minute to each of 4 glasses making every portion "even Steven" which was irritating. Then dealing with him, plus a number of other servers, who also kept coming over to grab every little dish separately while we were trying to eat peacefully. Also, despite my saying very clearly how I wanted my Hawaiian Ribeye steak, it was still not cooked as I requested it extremely blue cold inside and was just regular rare. Back it went. I had Jesse bring hot water for my own tea bag, but when I wanted to take the tea with me because we were leaving, he refused me a "to go" disposable paper cup for TEA, Stating it’s a law that no one can leave the restaurant with a beverage! What? Anywhere else you go, it’s accommodated. It's TEA, not alcohol! Anywhere we go, from chains like Olive Garden to privately owned restaurants, they're always happy to provide a paper cup and lid for my tea! I think in NYC that there’s obviously millions of folks walking around with a cup of tea, coffee, water, soda ect, but Hillstone has its own law that doesn’t apply in any chains like Starbucks, Dunkin’, coffee shops, and other places who serve beverages or deliver beverages? Just beyond outrageous that I got a million excuses and told they only had a plastic kids cup but can’t have one of those either. This was also echoed by another manager. The staff was annoying, rude, not a bit accommodating, and unprofessional. We are long time customers, and have written good reviews on the web, but this deserves less than one star if I could. If it was just us, we would’ve walked out, but we had our daughter and her boyfriend who were looking forward to it. When writing to corporate, their response was unbelievably, to find another restaurant, like that's hard? Imagine, with all the restaurants in NYC, this clown says to dine elsewhere. Thanks to Vice President Mr. Brian B., we will be happy not to spend another penny here! Hillstone is more like ILLstone, because the whole situation made us SICK and TIRED of spending our money here without being appreciated, valued or accommodated in the least! NEVER AGAIN!

Easun… good food… good service…. Just a little noisy but still… this is a great and easy place to eat with decent prices, on Park Avenue South…. Highly recommandable …. 👍

Been frequenting hill stone/houstons establishments for years. Our experience was as always. Greeted promptly, drink and food orders taken. Constantly our wait staff kept or glasses filled. Our only concern was that my wife's steak was grossly overlooked and we don't send food back so we just dealt with it.

Ideal for taking your other half out to dinner in NYC. Reservations are necessary, unless you want to eat at the bar counter, which is nice but given the prices, it is always better to opt for a table. Despite the reservation, you always wait 10/15 minutes before being seated at the table: at Hillstone it has always been like this, you just need to know. Excellent food, efficient service, a very respectable place, it's a shame it has closed the other location on 3rd Ave.

The super skinny fries were the very best I've ever had. They definitely weren't healthy but they were super tasty and cooked superbly. The burgers were beautifully made and superbly cooked. The French dip was nothing short of sublime and the place oozes quality from start to finish. Elegant setting, quality furniture, fine with well behaved children (if you've got little terrors then I'd go else where) nice liquors and the quality of the meats used is excellent. Staff are well trained and refined.

My husband and I enjoyed another outstanding luncheon at Hillstone, NYC, Park Avenue South. Thanks to Jody Freinkel, GM, and Camille our outstanding server, for their outstanding care and most professional people- hospitality skills; efficiency and attention to detail, all added to our dining experience. The Thai Noodle Steak salads were delicious and more than ample. Bring your own wine only added to our delightful experience. Thank you again to Jody's superior supervision and people skills, you made us feel right at home again in NYC. Thank you to Camille for your attention and care. We will be back again!!!!
Excellent food & attentive service
Was at Hillstone for Lunch, started with the Thai steak Salad it was just delicious, the presentation was wonderful and very tasty. I had the Hillstone burger and it was perfect. The only item that I wasn't crazy about was their shoe string French fries. Service was great and pretty fast. Overall a great experience
