Low key, grown up charm

By SPage54 |

My daughter and I went for breakfast the other week, really lovely. The avocado toast was among the best I have had. We say at the back overlooking hte garden, can't wait until it is warm enough to sit there. Very pleasant servers.

Gem in NYC

By Dbernauer |

As a frequent tracker it’s always my goal to find that ‘one of a kind’, smaller, local restaurant in the city I visit. This place ranks very high on that list. Small, cost, character and great food. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for a place that’s more local than your typical chain restaurants.

Best Breakfast I've Had In NYC

By Alex O |

This is my third trip to NYC in 9 months (and I've been several times prior to that), and this is easily the best breakfast I've had in the city. Simple, pretty interior, on a great street. I had an amazing cocktail (gin, grapefruit juice, aperol, process, elderflower liqueur, lemon twist...called Lolita). The breakfast burrito is one of the absolute best I've ever had. Homestyle potatoes, scrambled eggs, jalapeño cheddar, pico de gallo, and I added the steak, cooked medium. Came with a side of salsa/hot sauce (not too spicy). Truly incredible. Also enjoyed a mini chocolate croissant. My girlfriend had the fried egg/cheese/bacon/added avocado sandwich, on a house made English muffin, plus the house made cinnamon roll...loved all of it. Do not hesitate to make a stop here.

Disappointment at the Hudson

By Kathy in TO |

This is one of my daughter's favorite places...been her 8-10s's so naturally she wanted to bring me here on a recent trip. We invited her cousins to join us. What a disappointment. 45 min late for an 8:15 reservation. Crazy loud so we couldn't visit( my daughter didn't remember that) and food. Kale salad was missing 3 of the 5 ingredients. Burrata was fine. Gnocci was just ok as was the duck. Nothing special. We asked for salad size plates as we were tasting and sharing. They looked at us like we had two heads but got our plates. When they took them away after the salad course they put down the teacup saucers again...my neice just raised her eyebrow and we left it. Water was dolled out sparingly. And pricey...just saying. My daughter was totally embarrassed as she prides herself on finding the "great" spots to go. Just a big disappointment.

Second time round even better

By Neena C |

Stopped by for brunch on a very busy Sunday morning. Place was jam packed on an overcast day. Ordered the Herbed French Omelette along with Southern Eggs Benedict, Rosemary Pomme Frites and coffee. Thoroughly satisfying and prompt service in spite of crowd. Will return.

fresh, hip and pleasant

By BJaneH |

The clientele is young and lively, and the vibe is Village but they are welcoming and cordial to older folks, too. Cocktails have inventive names and even more inventive ingredients and are tasty. The cooking is competent though not outstanding, but the location is good for nearby theaters.

Fun West Village Find!

By Charles M |

We found Hudson Clearwater on the suggestions of a friend who lives in Astoria but makes his way over to this restaurant regularly. The restaurant has a nice feel to it, a bit laid back but semi sophisticated if that makes any sense. The appetizer special was a ricotta & peekytoe crab cake which were good but maybe a bit pricey at $16 compared to the entree pricing. My wife had a grilled hangar steak with chimichurri served with sauteed kale and a potato and cauliflower gratan all of which had good flavor, however, the hangar steak was quite chewy. I had the seared duck breast which was cooked perfectly and served over a mushroom and vegetable sautee. Service was overall above average. The only oddity was that I really was craving a cold Coke and they did not have coke or pepsi only bottled all natural alternatives that were pricey, no refills, and had an off flavor. This is definitely a restaurant that we will go back to next time we are in the city.

Perfect for brunch

By JackPudding |

Perfect place for brunch, especially if you can dine in the courtyard. French toast brioche or the Eggs Benedict particularly recommended, as are the smoothies. They do, however, need to learn to make tea properly, which does not mean putting tea leaves in a cafetiere... not good. Good service. Recommended.

Worth the visit

By travelingman921 |

Interesting place, had a lovely garden dining area in nice weather. Interior design has the character that comes with age. Excellent menu, good meal, reasonably priced in a great neighborhood.

Excellent

By Terry P |

After failing to get a table elsewhere we stumbled across Clearwater and they managed to seat us at the chef's counter. What a delightful surprise! The food was exceptional and good value, and they make a mean martini. We had one small issue with the food but it was so quickly sorted out - excellent service throughout.

Charming Outdoor Patio

By Jack D |

We had been at Hudson Clearwater once before and sat at a table in the front of the restaurant on Hudson Street. It wasn't until we got up to use the bathroom that we realized there was a beautiful little outdoor in the back. So this time we made sure we sat out there. The breakfast was very good, although the "House Made English Muffin" was a little dense and heavy. The cappuccinos were wonderful, good juices, the service was great, and the patio is really charming. The inside of the restaurant looks cool and spacious as well. The only major negative is that the outdoor tables are tiny and the chairs are REALLY uncomfortable (I remembered that from the first visit). But overall a great breakfast choice in a pretty mellow neighborhood.

Solid in every way

By GoHeat |

Solid in every way. Casual yet elegant with a menu that has something for everybody. The cinnamon roll was delicious, good for 1-2 people. The cheeseburger is one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The wine list is not very large but contains a few interesting wines. Bottled beers only. Full bar - my wife loved their bloody mary. Will certainly come back.

Again, this place rocks...

By FNANY |

The food is great. The waiting staff is friendly and efficient. The atmosphere has the right buzz. Hudson Clearwater remains a trendy place in the WV without a sliver of snootiness... good for brunch, lunch and dinner. Nothing to add. PS: eat at the counter.

TERRIBLE SERVICE AWFUL STAFF

By _allenbc |

We sat on the patio and had a quick beverage on a Friday Afternoon. The service was terrible, and we had only ordered 4 drinks. We paid the bill and were confronted by the owner about only leaving a 10% TIP. We were appalled and embarrassed at being confronted. We simply ordered 4 drink, the restaurant was empty the service was terrible, and we tipped what we felt appropriate for the service we received. We will never return, will never recommend, and will never refer anyone to an establishment such as this. Your Loss.

A Hidden Gem on Hudson St.

By Dora C |

I had an amazing lunch with my team at this very quaint restaurant on Hudson Street in the West Village. The menu was very creative, food was delish and the service excellent. Beautiful little garden in the back too for outdoor seating.

Perfect !!

By marc d |

Super fancy and good restaurant Staff was great and very friendly And the food was great and not too expensive I really loved the cocktails :))

Great for brunch

By RJC |

Booked in breakfast after seeing the menu but was initially unsure about how it was going to be after reading some of the reviews about the staff. Every member of staff was friendly, kind and helpful - we had our baby with us and space was tight and they were really accommodating to help put the stroller away safely. Food was delicious - good vegetarian choices. Cool atmosphere.

Good fun, great spot

By FHANDS |

If you can find it, you are half way there to emoting a wonderful meal. It's downtown West Village, so before and after, it's a great spot to walk around. Servic and food are excellent. Good vibe. Prices are good for the type of food that's served

Amazing food / hit and big miss on service as well as owner attitude

By New_York_Traveler_09 |

Food was excellent. I’ll give it that wine selection also pretty great service was hit or miss, but we really bothered me with the owners or manager whoever decided to abscond the table next to us and have the dogs and the girlfriends hair all into our face. it was just terribly rude towards us and our comfortability. I have a few Photos of this I can present it but trust me it was egregious and not worth coming here if that’s how they’re going to treat people. They have a lot of potential especially the chef and caring etc. but if you’d like to have management over your personal preference then this is your place. It is an eclectic place and would definitely go there for a brunch or early dinner, but not in the late evening when it becomes a free-for-all for the owners managers, or whoever to treat you like crap.

A "hidden" jewel in a quiet neighborhood

By janeaustinNY |

Such a wonderful find, thanks to our friends. The restaurant had so much to offer- excellent food, attentive service, energizing ambience- and a garden out back for lazy summer dinners. Everything served was presented with care, very nuanced seasonings. The carrot soup special was simply divine as was the slow braised pork shank. The chicken three ways was fun! Wines by the glass are fairly priced. Bottles are unusual and priced to match. The sound level is high in the lower level which has high ceilings. But in the upper level, both the ceiling and sound level are lower. One can sit at the counter and watch the well orchestrated kitchen staff-four strong- at their work or settle in at a table especially the corner one.

The Freshest Brunch, Cozy Atmosphere

By Nsenya |

We decided to walk around Greenwich Village one Sunday and stopped into the Hudson Clearwater for brunch. This intimate café had an interesting selection of brunch items ... AND, more importantly, everything was made as ordered with the freshest ingredients! Located in the historic area of GREENWICH Village, there are many spots to see after enjoying your meal...one being the FRIENDS TV show's location of their 'hang-out,' Central Perk. Hudson Clearwater is located in a picturesque area of downtown.

Bland brunch

By BundleBrent |

cute restaurant; shame about the cooking. The "Southern Eggs Benedict" sounded good, but turned out to be a dried out hard biscuit with overlooked eggs and weird sauce. Disappointing.

Trendy, friendly warm atmosphere.

By sophiegirl0814 |

This restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't let that deter you from thinking its a cool spot to stop in after work for a drink or dinner. They offer a wonderful selection of cocktails and wines. Their Pinot Noir is specially made for them and quite delicious. The bar is not that big and it can get a little cramped in the front dining area. The staff are very helpful, friendly and courteous. The food is delicious. My only complaint is that no food is served between 3 pm and 5:30 p.m until dinner menu starts. We arrived at 4:40 and had to wait until 5:30 to order which is fine if you know but live and learn! And I got to enjoy the delicious wine. Another tip, not very good place to take a wheel chair. Entry is a little tight and bathrooms are downstairs not handicapped accessible If you not traveling with a handicapped person, this place is worth a try.

Exquisite

By wmsc |

My wife and I had a quiet dinner. The food and service were outstanding. I had the pork chop and it was one of the best I have ever eaten. We sat in the courtyard just after a rain. It is a magically romantic place. It needs a few more stars.

Yummy breakfast/brunch, went back for seconds!!!

By Dameemer |

Ate here Saturday and Sunday morning, was very tasty food, lovely service and nice ambience. There is a back patio garden, inside seating as well as sidewalk seating. We ate at 9am and 10:30 and no wait but if you come later good chance you will wait. Locals love this place! Veggie options as well and fresh juices and specialty coffee; we had Hudson Scramble and French omelette; so fresh and delicious! Bacon was thick cut and smoked! Prices were not astronomical but value for food you receive. Highly recommend and I am picky about breakfast in NYC or otherwise!

Delectable

By Jetsetter_Foodie90 |

Some of the best food I've ever tasted! My husband I are big foodies and everything we ordered was simply delicious. We sat at the chef's table which was fun. Can't wait to return soon :] lobster & corn salad with tomato water, red quinoa salad, Ricotta Gnocchi, jalapeño Braised short ribs, & huckleberry cheesecake were out of this world, Thank you

overpriced and indifferently prepared food

By ManhattanMinuet |

How the restaurant earned the stars it has is a wonder. The one bean "amuse bouche" set the tone. The food was not especially well prepared, presented or seasoned and the bill was the only stunning thing of the evening. What a wild disappointment. The noise levels made conversation below the level of a gentle roar impossible. Unfortunately we were next to a table of leopards.

Phenomenal secret non-touristy spot. Incredible anniversary dinner!

By amandalc |

This spot was recommended by a blog (Cup of Jo) and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I were visiting NYC for our anniversary and made reservations for this gem for dinner on a Saturday to celebrate. The restaurant looks like a closed up shop from the front, but if you go around the side of the building, push through a green door, you enter a small garden terrace with tables and enter the restaurant through the back door. The restaurant is dark and buzzing with an open kitchen and plenty of drinks clinking and laughter. The atmosphere is perfect for foodies who are into trying new things mixed with old classics (steak, lamb, pork, and fish). We sat at the Chef's Table, which is the wooden 'bar' that looks into the small, open kitchen. We watched as the Chefs meticulously prepared our meals while servers buzzed about. The place was packed, inside and out and everyone was having an amazing time. The food was phenomenal and did not disappoint. Every course was a burst of flavor with beautiful presentation. One of my best meals I've ever had, and fantastic service. On another note, you're given two hours to dine when you make your reservation (and trust me, you need a reservation) which was just enough time for us (8:15pm - 10:15pm) and we never felt rushed or that we were running out of time. As far as pricing, it's definitely casual fine dining so may be on the pricier side, but perfect for a special occasion or when you really want to treat yourself. I would highly recommend this spot for someone looking to spend a bit more on dinner but be transported into the amazing world of food.

Wonderful food, superb service.

By flossgloss |

We had lunch there last week on the recommendation of the French lady who owns the pet shop across the street, Zoomies. It's a smallish restaurant with an upper and lower bar which is cool. We shared the burratta, beet, toasted hazelnut, confit shallot vinegairette. It was very nice. Loved the toasted hazelnuts. Then we had the avocado toast .... it's a very nice guacamole on multigrain toast. I adore a good guac so I was pleased. We had the potato leek soup. I liked it but my friend did not. It was a normal potato leek soup..... good but nothing special. We also tried the rosemary fries and they were yummy. Our waiter was Ruben and he was superb in every way.... the service was exemplary. I have to say I really appreciate when the service is as wonderful as it was here. It's one of my pet peeves in a restaurant to have bad service. My friend said she didn't love her soup so they took it off our bill which was a very nice gesture. Sign of a quality restaurant. I wish I could go here every week!

Loved it

By paris1962 |

I love the food there , we only did small plates ( not too hungry) but delicious : scallops , Bruxelles sprouts , burrata ... The service and ambiance were reeeally nice ! Definitely will recommend and go back !!

Amazing Food

By Ken |

We were given a gift certificate by my daughter's friends who live in New York after we hosted them in Hawaii for a week. They told us this was one of their favorite restaurants. Went there for brunch on a Sunday at around 10:30 am so it was early enough where we did not need a reservation. What a find! My wife was a little ill but she accompanied me. We ordered a smoothie (which was big and excellent) Eggs benedict on southern biscuit, Brioche French toast, roasted beet salad, fries and coffee. The bill came out to $55 without tip. If 5 stars is the highest, the smoothie, beet salad and coffee was 5 stars! The eggs benedict was 4 stars only bc I didn't like the southern biscuit. The fries was average but the French toast was 6 stars!! I have never had French toast this light with a slight crisp to it. It was amazing. The food was so good, we went back the next night just for dessert to use up the rest of the gift certificate. We ordered the Meyer Lemon Bar that had a date compote and it was out of this world, 5-6 stars. Even the date compote, which I had never had or heard of before was other worldly. Turns out the Lemon Bar is the chef's family recipe. We chatted with the Chef Wes Long while sitting along the bar overseeing the cooking and it is obvious he is meticulous and very picky about the preparation and cooking of his foods. Everything has to be just right and it shows in the quality of the food. I am pretty picky when it comes to reviewing food (as I am 60 years old and my wife is a great cook),and the food here is top notch. Obviously, I did not try every item on the menu so I cannot say what the other items are like, but the local New Yorkers keep filling up this place on week nights and that tells me a lot.

Cute spot!

By Honest and fair reviews |

We had lunch here a few days ago and it was very nice. We sat in the back courtyard and had a great time. The drinks were really good and the food was good too. Nothing out of this world but very nice for a light lunch.

Like dining at a really good looking friend's house.

By Stacey H |

This is my go to spot. Love the local neighborhoody feel with the friendly service and delicious, yet not overly priced menu. Specialty cocktails are popular (I like to have dinner at the bar or occasionally the fun chef's table...they have an outdoor garden in warmer weather as well) and I almost always get the duck! It'a fantastic. Everyone who works here is friendly and gorgeous to boot. I will continue to go back (just don't miss the door)!

Great neighborhood bistro in a West Village farmhouse...

By Chris_helen90266 |

We had 12 people in the private room downstairs - very cozy - great vibe - we felt well taken care of - excellent service, solid food and reasonable prices. We'd go back and have another dinner there...also a beautiful outdoor back patio for smaller groups.

Great service, excellent food and drink. Superb atmosphere with very friendly staff. Don’t forget to make reservations!

Great cocktail and ambience

By rohit27 |

Tucked away behind red wall, not easy to find ,this restaurant was highly recommend. We had a reservation but still preferred to sit on the bar as the table that was being given was near the stairs & cash register . cocktails were great , but the food choice was very limited. Ordered roasted duck which was undercooked . Over all apart from ambience and drinks , wont recommend it for food .

Great food in a friendly bistro atmosphere

By alan james g |

Well executed bistro style food.. The service is hapasad yet the intent is there.. It's a cosy venue yet the reason to go is the food. It's busy so just chill and it will all happen.. The food is imaginative and well presented. The steak duck and great in potatoes really good yet star of the show is the chocolate brûlée with raspberry sorbet. Well with a visit..

Charming outside in 'back yard' and inside too - That's about it.

By lcwg10012 |

We came here to enjoy the back yard on a mild autumn morning. It's got a few plants, away from traffic and sidewalk so was very nice. Not so much my breakfast burrito and coffee. Coffee was a French press consequently no refills and the coffee does get cold. Burrito had no flavor punch; just mild flavors so it was a bit boring. It wasn't a bad experience but from my limited exposure the reason to return is the charm of both outside and inside the restaurant.

Just so so

By Neena C |

Selection on lunch menu was limited, ordered the ham and cheese croissant and my son had the meat burger. Both were just average. Service was very slow, had a problem catching our server's eye. Don't think I would go back.

Charming + Beautiful with Delicious Food + Great Service

By RRP |

Hudson Clearwater is one of my all-time favorite restaurants with the coolest/coziest vibe and the freshest/most delicious food. The ricotta gnocchi, roasted bass, seared scallops, clam linguini and crispy polenta are my personal faves, but honestly I haven’t had one dish there that I haven’t loved. I visited this week and the seating outside is so pretty and I felt super safe with the precautions they are taking for social distancing. The service was friendly, attentive and kind. If there happens to be a queue for a table because of how poppin this place is, I promise it is worth the wait, oh! And the cheesecake is worth the cheat day. I don’t usually even like cheesecake, but the way they make it is insanely good. Like melt in your mouth and dream about it a week later good. For real though, I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s good people and good food. What more could you want?

Warm lunch spot

By michele m |

Ducked into this small friendly restaurant for a quick lunch. Limited but thoughtful lunch menu. Had the HLT with house cured ham on wheat bread. Companion had the salmon on toast, which was more like a breakfast snack than a full sandwich. The fries were fresh and delicious :) Enjoyed the local NYC diet cola from Boylan. Cute neighborhood spot...would check them out for dinner as well.

Would leave negative 5 stars if possible.

By Meg D |

I have lived in New York for 4 years, I dine out often. I can say with absolute certainty that this was the worst service experience I have ever had in my life. It wasn't just a lack of attention. Our server was blatantly rude the entire time we were at the restaurant. She quite literally took our order and would not even look us in the eyes for the rest of our meal. Almost all of our orders had something wrong and we attempted to get her attention as she walked by, no joke, probably 13 times. My sister finally had to get up from the table at one point to go and ask her for water after asking her as she passed by THREE times, and there was no attempt at apology—just a dirty look. My sisters boyfriend ordered eggs and a side of fries and toast, and she brought eggs and two sides of fries. By the time we finally got the toast (from another server after trying to get her attention for about 30 minutes) his eggs were cold. We watched another couple ask for their meal to go, and our server literally took their plates and dumped them upside down in to-go boxes. When my sister finally went to the manager, he said "there was nothing he could do because he didn't have approval to comp our meal since the owner wasn't there", and he proceeded to take off the fries we didn't order and the toast. That's it. We had no cocktails and still walked out paying $85 for literally the most terrible dining experience of our lives. We would be happy to pay a premium for great food and great service but this was such a disgusting experience I'm really disappointed that the manager couldn't make right or at least offer us a gift card to come back and have a better experience. Not ok. DO NOT GO HERE.

Great Brunch

By J S |

Last afternoon in NYC after a 4 day visit, wandering through East Village, we came across this great little place. Walked in straight off the street and they found us a table. Great service from French waitress (didn't catch her name). Great Bloody Mary, excellent food and the wine wasn't bad either. Hopefully will be back to NY and if so will definitely revisit.

Creative menu. Lovely food. Staff needs some training

By Knows |

A bit difficult to find, and a very tight space inside, with an open kitchen and attentive wait staff. The restaurant was full, being a Saturday night, but we found space at the bar. This is where the troubles were; One cook had his underwear hanging out and visible every time he moved. Another cook was frequently checking his cell phone and had it lying out on the prep table. Neither is nor conveys a clean kitchen. Not what you would expect for the prices or cuisine.

Despite the wonderful food,

By linda jr |

Despite the wonderful food, I would give this an average rating. The noise. The crowd. We were seated right up against the bar and were constantly jostled by people coming in to drink and some waiting for a table. At one point, we just wanted to get our check. The waitress was apologetic about our unhappiness but there was nothing she could do. The buratta salad with pistachios and beets was excellent as was the special of seared halibut. My husband enjoyed the duck breast entree very much. Our friend had an appetizer portion of the scallops for an entree and complained about the saltiness. We finished our dinner and were asked if we wanted dessert. We told the waitress that the last hour had been very difficult and we wanted to get our check and be finished. We don’t mind spending money on an excellent meal but the experience should be good too. It was not. Unacceptable experience really.

Business Breakfast -THIS PLACE ROCKS!

By avim20152015 |

Just had an amazing breakfast with everything being so tasty and just fabulous! Service was top notch! My first time and won't be my last!

Without cinnamon buns ...

By Matt |

Hudson Clearwater used to have the best cinnamon buns on God's green earth. My friends and I went there today and found out that they no longer serve them as they are "seasonal". Frankly I don't see a reason to go. I know that sounds harsh, but they were THAT good as to make everything else seems oddly inferior. This time I went, we had the burgers which are above average. Our server was excellent but there were unnecessary hiccups that I just don't remember having in the past - cinnamon bun haze made me forget, I guess. But, the management was keen to fix it and made the lunch better. Overall, when cinnamon buns come back so will the 5 stars.

Buzzy place in Lower Manhattan

By hpbeebie |

We had an early booking on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant soon filled up. The kitchen staff work tirelessly but in a composed manner in front of you. I guess they do a lot of prep before service because the food came reasonably quickly and everything was well presented. It's not top of the range but still very good and I would definitely go back. There is an extensive wine list by the glass and several interesting craft beer to choose from. Service is attentive but not over bearing. They are all rather beautiful people! The garden is obviously popular but I enjoyed the ambience inside the restaurant

Great Semi-Hidden Gem

By polci |

Hudson Clearwater is a great and solid NYC restaurant with a very local, hipster and yet sophisticated feeling. The steak is incredible and so are the gnocchi and the fish. But anything really works very well. Brunch is incredibly convenient and good! Definitely a West Village must.

Amazing Breakfast

Have been here a couple of times. Ended up having poached eggs with avocado on multigrain toast. Hint of lime and chili flakes. Absolutely in love. Nice cosy place and very friendly service.

Great family and friends gathering place

By CSY5146 |

Enjoyed dishes selected from appetizers to desserts. Excellent cocktails and wines selections. We enjoyed the market fish that evening as well as the pork chop.

Green River

By bb_organic |

We waited forever for a seat at the bar. When we got it the food came out as we expected. Nothing more, nothing less. We had to ask. The bartender said it was inspired by Creedence Clearwater Revival, not the Hudson Clearwater sloop.

Great service vegetarian choices

By Robert P |

Stopped by on a walk from Grand Central to the September 11 memorial. About a third of the menu is vegetarian so it's a great place for us. Food was quite good and well made. Service was excellent with the whole staff seeming to be a team.

Delicious food BUT....

By DaniV22 |

First off let me say that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Make no mistake- the chefs absolutely know what they are doing! What is really driving this review was the service. Everyone was nice enough, however the timing of our courses was horrendous. As we took our last bite of our appetizer our entrees arrived. No exaggeration- our plates hadn't even been cleared yet. We felt very rushed. We weren't ready for our main course but ate it anyway since it was there. Also, once the entree was delivered we didn't see our server again for a while. My wine glass sat empty throughout my enitre main course (disappointing!) I would go again. The food was truly very good. I was just really shocked by the lack of attention to very basic serving etiquette.

Wonderful Dinner

By Carla G |

I took my sister and mother to Hudson Clearwater for my sister's birthday. I live in Chicago, so I had to get a recommendation for a restaurant from a friend. I could not have asked for a more perfect place to celebrate my sister. The food was incredible and the the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We were able to sit there for 3 hours and just enjoy each other's company while we delighted our palates.

Dinner for three was excellent

By Adrian T |

Had dinner for three at the restaurant, a local gem. It was really busy, mso reservations late in the week are probably a good idea. Started with cocktails, two off the list of house specials, then went to wine. Service was great despite the crowd. We shared the mushroom and navy bean soup

Always great from brunch to dinner

By FNANY |

Hudson Clearwater always has become one of my favorite places in New York City. Behind curtained-windows is one of most relaxed restaurants in the city. From brunch to dinner the place always delivers. We went for brunch and dinner this month and last. Had the eggs benedict and the herb French omelette; both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Strongly recommend to get the rosemary fries which are second to none. For a super heathy starter, try the $5 grapefruit brûlé. Good selection of wines by the glass between $9 -and $12, which is getting a rarity in the city. For dinner, try the hanger steak (a must) or the duck. Service is always pleasant and efficient. If in a hurry, ask to sit at the bar in front of the kitchen. In summer, ask to be seated in the garden.

Fabulous

By David M |

It is our first time here. Everything is perfect, the menu choices, the food, the atmosphere, the service ( thank you Hannah). We will absolutely return.

Great restaurant

Great restaurant and fantastic owner who will be there to help if needed. Great for large groups too and fabulous nyc vibe

Good Dinner and Place from Washington Square Park

By AugustoV01 |

My girlfriend and I had just Left the Blue Note and decided it was time to have a bite to eat. We were luck and found this small place a few minutes away. The house wine was very good so we decide it was worth a try to have a late dinner. We found this small place. For appetizer we picked the roasted duck salad which was very good. The Ricotta Gnocchi and the Pan-Seared Wild-Caught Atlantic Bass were both excellent. I prefer fish so I am more partial to the Bass.

Great neighbor restaurent

By CarolR7 |

Found this spot through a neighbor walking her dog down Hudson. Great recommendation. Food was very good and the ambiance was delightful. The Bar was very complete and the most of the dinners were in their 30's, 40's and 50's except me. I am a few years past those years.

Nice Vibe

By rhodebud |

After a matinee of In Transit where young New Yorkers make it in the city, Hudson Clearwater kept the theme going with a youthful happy feel, great food, and attractive, insightful servers (for whom this must be a way to pay the bills while waiting for the big break). Crowded and busy, but noise level not a problem for conversation.

Beautiful little spot

By PG49er |

I have visited here several times in the past couple years for brunch and drinks. Have always enjoyed the atmosphere and food. The outdoor garden dining on a beautiful spring or summer day is just wonderful. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great brunch or lunch spot. Food is always great and the Bloody Mary's spicy. Enjoy!!

Go after eating

By Phich |

The waiter was friendly and the place cute, but they took nice-restaurant-with-small-portions to another level. I ordered an appetizer and the seafood linguini, but still left really quite hungry. My date too. (We're skinny lol)

Lovely Meal

Great vibe. Innovative menu. Great food and plenty of it. Very busy. Can't book on Sunday mornings so turn up before 11am so ensure you don't have to wait too long. Would definitely return.

Save your money

By Briyah P |

I visited the restaurant this evening and wasn’t impressed. The staff were unprofessional and basically ignored my mother and I. Our food arrived cold. They brought her a second drink when she didn’t ask for one and then they didn’t even let her keep it to make up for the cold food. The portions were tiny. My meal cost $60 and I was so hungry afterwards I went to a diner. Overpriced, noisy and pretentious. I wouldn’t come back. Also, the duck was very average. I’ve made better duck at home. Blueberries with duck? And applesauce? I didn’t get it.

Throwback comfort?

By joeyeatsout |

Clearwater reminds me of places I used to frequent when I lived in town near the Village. Kinda dark, kinda cost-effective and very neighborly. The décor of the bar, dining areas and outside garden is definitely throwback and comfortable. Talk to locals at the bar. The food is very good too! Three of us tried sweet potato and apple soup, buratta with roasted beets, squash and pecan ravioli and braised short ribs with roasted turnips. And it all tasted very good…the kitchen was definitely on form. If you’re bored with standard menus or just bored with tourist menus you should check this place out.

Very cute place for breakfast/brunch. Service could be better.

By hillaris1979 |

Cute spot in West Village for breakfast or brunch. Ambiance and atmosphere are great, food is unique and excellent, but service was scarce.

Recommended by a friend and exceeded our expectations!

By connie c |

This is an amazing find in Greenwich Village--trouble is everyone has found it, so book a table in advance! Delightful ambiance, great wait staff, and excellent food. Our waiter, George, was amazing and we took his every recommendation from burrata to duck to cheesecake at the end and we were in heaven. We had a chance to chat with the owner, Mark, who does a great job of making you feel as if you are the only guests he has in a crowded dining room. We will be back again and again!

Good surprise

By Max |

It is very nice and cozy place with small garden, small but tasty menu, original cocktails, not very expensive

Happening Place

By Irma G |

What a fun place! It has the perfect Greenwich Village ambiance and an interesting menu. The food was excellent. We shared cauliflower and fried zucchini for the table. Both were excellent. My husband and I ordered the eggs with kale, quinoa, tomato and a few other fixings. It was very tasty but we were disappointed in the small amount of eggs. But the service was good and we felt very comfortable with the distance between tables and with the heater overhead. There is also a pretty garden in the back.

One of my favorite breakfast spots

By MissP76 |

Hudson Clearwater is a great neighborhood spot with a lovely outdoor garden area. Breakfast is consistently good and it's one of the best lattes in the hood. Service can be a bit slow so I wouldn't recommend coming if you're in a hurry but if you have the time to sit outside and relax with friends over brunch, this is the place to do it.

Eat fast!

By Ken Adams |

Beautiful cozy place, love the vibe, located in the beautiful west village, one of the chicest neighborhoods in New York City. They are open for dinner at 5:30. Mostly confort food. Love the patio to eat outdoors. Kinda sucks that once you’re seated they warn you they need the table in 1 hour so it kinda feels they’re kicking you out. Situation could be easily avoided by: not sitting us on that table. Inform your staff that table is already taken. Move us to a nearby table. We all had the steak, very good! Small portion, but delicious. Actually really small for $31 but again, it was mouthwatering. I wouldn’t come back for it tho.

Very good neighbourhood restaurant

By Julia7249 |

A hidden gem. Upmarket but down to earth exceptional well done food. I had the rabbit which is something of a signature dish, with asparagus, ricotta and peas. It was excellent. Wine was fantastic and service efficient.

Very standar food

By seasonedvisitor |

You will find the food pretty ordinary, not bad, not too good, very overpriced for what it is. Service is very friendly. Drinks are expensive.

Definitely high energy but rather disappointing food

By Scott S |

Four of us dined here upon a friend recommendation. It is a quaint place, we were unable to get patio seating and were seated in the main room. The crowd is mostly young, professional and lively. Our server was really nice and very professional. She was definitely the highlight. I had purchased 2 bottles of wine close by and thought the corkage fee of 20/bottle was very reasonable. She opened both bottles and took care to clean out the neck of one of the bottles that had wax over the cork. She also offered us nice Reidel glasses to enjoy these very good wines. She was GREAT. Food...ehhhh. Charcuterie plate was very disappointing with very small servings. Not enough for 2 much less 4. Even the selections were non descript. The bruscetta was a little different but nothing to brag about. Okay the duck comfit rillette was superb!!! Good portion, great flavor. The highlight of the meal. Main courses were a fish dish (2), linguini with clams and a salad for our vegan. The fish dish was decent but the linguini with clams was very disappointing. Perhaps the patio would be a more pleasant dining experience and also other dishes. I would return for the service and the rillettes!

Local favorite!

By Courtney T |

Hudson Clearwater is wonderful! B'fast, lunch, or dinner - this place delivers fresh, delicious, straight forward food. The only thing better than the food is the service. The wait staff is so friendly and sophisticated. They really make you feel at home, and give this NYC restaurant a small town vibe.

Cool place, great burger!

By Roger M |

Went there as a recommendation and loved it. It is a nice small place with a homey feel. They also have an outdoor courtyard you can sit. We sat at the bar and had their hebal iced tea (great!) and burgers. What a surprise, delicious and comes with a side (I chose berries). We did not look thoroughly through the menu but was large enough to have variety. I will return for sure.

Amazing Duck Breast

By hsak21 |

While visiting NYC with my wife, we went out with her friends to Hudson Clearwater last Winter. We had a larger party so they sat us in the wine cellar which was nice as we were able to talk to all 8 of us there. The food was great, especially the clams and duck breast. We thought the prices were very affordable. It has a hidden entrance, cozy patio, a Christmas tree during the winter, and has a very intimidate setting but maintains a youthful and lively vibe.

OMG Amazing!

By Kelly B |

First of the owners are great, the decor super cool and the food ... off the chart good. The bartender made me a custom drink based on what I like, the owner sent over a fantastic gluten free dessert for my daughter. The service was outstanding. Can't wait to visit NYC again to go back

Small but really tasty food and drinks

By leffertslady |

Very small but lovely decor and atmosphere. We went for brunch without a reservation and were lucky to be seated right away. Tasty brunch menu and excellent drinks. Quick service. There is an outdoor seating area in the back that I am sure is lovely for summer happy hour.

Best food we had in NYC

By Paul S |

Despite the restaurant being busy, they found room for us and sat us at the chef's counter. This was great! Food was absolutely delicious and we had fun watching it be prepared. Service was good and atmosphere even better. Certainly recommended.

Great outside on a summer night

By john l |

Came here to dine outside, as pictures showed an especially pretty garden area. It was as pretty as we'd hoped. Food and service were all quite good; no complaints. A very good experience.

Sunday breakfast

By LeslieTeng |

Came here after being told there was a 45 minute wait at Buvette; we were seated immediately here. Friendly staff. Not too crowded. Great breakfast (I got blueberry cornmeal johnnycakes). The hot chocolate is rich and not too sweet, and also large portion.

Visiting son in new York city

By Jolene W |

Had a great meal. .homemade linguine wad the best ..burshetta all great a must visit was very loud atmosphere domif yoy want to talk that's not possible

Interesting & Hard to Find

By FightinOwl |

Great cocktails (the two that I had) and a nice variety of menu choices from a small menu. The duck breast was slightly under cooked but still tasty and my wife enjoyed the lamb rib appetizer. Definitely make a reservation as it's a small restaurant and seemed popular w/ the locals as those around use were all NYC folks.

Best meal I have enjoyed in a while!

By linadri47 |

A friend and I have accidentally stumbled over this place lat week and we were simply amazed! Everything was perfect - the food, the drinks and the service. The steak and the duck breast were marvelous - I don't remember the last time that I have eaten something so perfect. The meal was a little piece of art on the plate and on our tongues - each ingredient seemed to be well chosen and placed. The compositions were creative and surprised both of us. The desserts knocked us off our chairs... you should definitely have one if you visit this place! We highly recommend the dark chocolate crème brûlée and the fluffiest cheesecake in New York. The service was top-notch. We didn't even notice how are water glasses were filled and the empty plates vanished.

All around MEH

By Kashlee Kucheran |

All around MEH The service was frightfully slow, the food was sub-par at best, resulting in an extremely underwhelming experience. To summarize why it was so bad: - Drinks took at least 20 minutes to reach the table. - Waitress never came back to ask if we wanted another, despite us wanting more. She was no where to be found to flag down - My meal (the vegan 'tabouleh') was nothing but some chickpeas and tomatoes. At $27 for the plate, I was in shock. It was tasteless and completely boring. I expected so much more. - After asking for the check, it took our waitress a good 25 minutes to reappear with the tablet, with the starting tip ask at 20%. Sorry, but the horrible slow service and bland food does not make me want to pay a MINIMUM of 20% I will never return as there are so many better places in the area

Cozy brunch!

By Tonia W |

Cozy ambiance, awesome shredded chicken sandwich, can get little loud when full (we sat at the back of the restaurant facing open kitchen) but it's part of the vibe. We stayed at Sheraton in Soho and this was an easy walk. I would frequent this place again and try the items. It was a lovely experience.

Lovely!

By kelly1mickey |

We went for a late breakfast. It was quiet so we got a table right by the window which was perfect. I love people watching. We didn't feel rushed and it appeared the other diners felt the same. I had a egg sandwich with tomato, avocado, spinach, and manchego cheese on a homemade English muffin. I definitely recommend trying it. It was great!

One of my favorites in the West Village

By juliecheverri |

This spot is one of the places I’ve been to the most in my 4+ years in the West Village. I first went for brunch with my mom and loved everything we ate. I don’t know what they do to their scrambled eggs but they taste like heaven. The cocktails are also delicious! I went recently with my boyfriend and we shared the scallops which were to die for.

All Good but Pricey

By CW |

This was the first time we dined at Hudson Clearwater though we walked by it many times. This restaurant boasts a lovely back garden area and a cozy interior. The kitchen is very efficient and turns out delicious food. The problem I had was some of the service (we didn’t get our bottle of wine until well after the appetizer arrived) and cost of entrees commensurate with the ingredients ($28 worth of linguine with clams consisted of five clams) and charging $2 for two slices of bread. I understand the economics of restaurants in a high rent area of NYC but really, 5 clams? All dishes were delicious and filling, the coffee was wonderful and the service after the initial blip was attentive.

Outstanding breakfast

By Mauswiesel |

We were lucky and got a seat at the bar where the chefs were. It was quite cold, so we couldn't sit in the nice little courtyard or outside the door. The dishes were absolutely great, the best cinnamon roll ever, a great muesli with excellent coconut yoghurt and great pancakes. All the other dishes that were prepared in this way were also great. So an absolute tip!

The best meal in New York so far

By Mike B |

I've been in New York for a month and I've eaten out every night. Hudson Clearwater is simply the best tastiest food I have eaten since I arrived. It offers clean and fresh distinctive subtle flavours which is frankly a huge relief from over Americanised over complicated dishes which seems to be the norm. My favourite place so far and incredible value. I had diner but I can't wait to try lunch I love it.

Charming, Quaint and Delish

By CathyCole |

After a recommendation from a friend from Dallas, we took an Uber out to the East Vilage. The atmosphere is quaint, charming and inviting! We enjoyed a cheese plate, pan seared fish, grass fed steak and mushroom risotto. But, the highlight were the Brussel Sprouts we ordered for a side. The only flaw is hat the portion for he risotto was quite small. Would love to come back again!

Enjoyed an excellent meal....then got kicked out!!!

By jerseytravelr22 |

The food and service provided by the waitress was excellent, however I was rudely "kicked out" of the restaurant. We were a party of four and had a reservation for 8:00pm on a Saturday night. We arrived early 7:45 and figured we would grab a drink at the bar if they could not seat us until our reservation time. The restaurant was busy at this time, but not packed with people and we were told that we could be seated right away. We ordered several drinks each, appetizers, entrees, side dishes, coffee and dessert. Everything was delicious and the waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. As soon as we put our forks and spoons down from dessert (two of us were still drinking our coffee / alcoholic drink) and paid the bill, a gentleman comes over and says something like, "We thank you for dining with us tonight but we would now like you to join us at the bar for a drink". I ask him why and what he was talking about. He then proceeds to tell me that they have a 2 1/2 hour time limit for dinner when the restaurant is busy and that they are backed up with reservations. I then ask him if the drink at the bar is "on" the restaurant and he snickers and says, "No, no, no the drinks will not be on us, but we would love for you to join us at the bar.". At this point I bring to his attention that it was a few minutes before 10:00pm. We had an 8:00 reservation and were sat at 7:50. So eaither way we we had not met the 2 1/2 hour limit. He just mumbled and walked away. We gulped down what was left of our drinks and got up and left....THERE WAS NO ROOM AT THE BAR!!!!!!! As I was leaving I became really upset with what had happened and I asked to speak with a manager, after five minutes the person came back and asked me what I wanted to talk with the manager about so I told him. After another five minutes the manager "Meg" comes to speak with us. I explained to her what had happened and she apologized. At this point she did offer to buy the four of us a round of drinks which was the right thing to do and I appreciated that, butthe bar was completely packed with people and some people in our party were just absolutely adamant about leaving at this point due to the classless act of this host. The food and service were excellent, but when you plan and anticipate a nice evening out, pay that much money and purchase that much food and drink, you really feel used when as soon as you pay the bill and even include a generous tip you are asked to leave. I understand the need to move people along and having a busy Saturday night, but there is a better way to do this with more tact, and it is not right after the person pays the tab and you dont tell people that there is a 2 1/2 hour LIMIT on seating especially when they have been there for only a few minutes after 2 hours. I have never had this happen to me before. In retrospect if it ever happens again at another restaurant, I will remain at the table for an additional period of time and not order anything more just out of spite. This place has great atmosphere, excellent food, and a great wait staff.....hopefully they can rectify the need to pack in reservations, overbooking, and rudely kicking people out right after they pay a hefty sum. Classless move Hudson Clearwater.

One of my new favorite restaurants!

By Chris P |

It was a dark and stormy night when we walked into this cozy, warm Bistro. The service was excellent, the surroundings well done, and the food superb!

Excellent

By Mario |

Wonderful restaurant. Great burgers and very pleasant service. It’s hip and the food is very refined. We loved it.

Quite the most appalling customer experience imaginable.

By Dominic S |

I'm a semi regular at this place and have always found it to be ok. Not amazing but perfectly acceptable for quick sit down lunch. What happened today has changed my view completely. My lunch partner and I sat down at 1.10pm. Although there was a large party in the place as a whole was not busy. After 15 minutes no one had come to take our order or even offer us a drink. When the waitress finally showed up she was genuinely apologetic and we ordered a club soda, a cola and two salads. At 2pm. A full 50 minutes after sitting down there was still no sign of the food. When we asked our waitress she told it would be another 10-12 before our food would be ready. It was clear that our order had not even made it to the kitchen. There was no apology, no offer to get a drink while we waited. Nothing. At this we stood up and made to leave. We hadn't got to the door before we were intercepted by the manger who insisted that we pay for our drinks. I pointed out that we had been waiting almost an hour for our food and that it was the least they could do by way of an apology to comp us our drinks but he was not to be swayed. After a several minutes of face to face heated remonstrations in which the manager refused to accept that we had been poorly treated he finally relented and we left. This place clearly has no idea how treat it's customers. I'd be surprised if they have many left.

Hidden Gem

By 3550amandaa |

This restaurant was recommended to my boyfriend as a romantic spot for dinner and it was exactly that. Firstly it was hidden, off the road so hard to find if you're not expecting that but made it much cooler! Very romantic inside, we got to sit at the chef's table which was such an experience! I would literally call these chefs "food artists" they clearly loved cooking and really cared about how they prepared your food. Being able to sit there and watch them was almost like a show! The food wasn't just pretty it was delicious. Good sized portions, free appetizers and fancy drinks. The dinner was expensive but in my opinion it was definitely worth the price. (It was about $150 for 2 people but we had 2 drinks each- also keep in mind this is expensive to 2 24 year olds). Definitely worth it. Make a reservation.

Homey, cozy, pleasant place with GOOD food

By Kirk F |

After several visits to Hudson Clearwater for breakfast and lunch, we can whole-heartedly recommend it for its friendliness, charm, excellent menu and food. In the heart of the Village, its corner location makes it light an airy, with a patio in back (weather permitting), and tables in the front and upper mezzanine across from the kitchen. The ingredients are fresh, the wait staff efficient, and the prices reasonable.

Trendy today, but need to focus on food to keep things going...

By burnsinny |

Pretty busy place on a Saturday night. Vibrant and full of energy. Fun place to be. Inventive menu but my appetizer and meal were fine, but not great. My wife and friends were not blown-away by the meals either. To keep a 'good thing going' I suggest trying to take the food to the next level...

Great service and fantastic food

By Adrian T |

Went for dinner, mate at he bar and had a really great time. The barman was chatty and made a fantastic manhattan with sazerac, and a blood and sand for my friend. It's rustic, really cosy and very busy without being cramped or crowded. I had the heirloom tomato salad, which was really fantastic and rustic, and the habanero brined pork chop perfectly moist and tender with a terrific char. My colleague had the kale salad and hangar steak, perfect medium and char. Finished with an espresso and house made biscotti, seriously excellent food and service a real gem.

Beautiful place, great food, slowish but worth it.

By ScooterNYC |

The setting is a ten. The staff is a ten (holy moly; central casting must do the hiring). The food is really good and interesting. Among all these features, though, he best thing, I think, is the light and the design of the place. That and the cool juice combos. Enjoy! But expect a wait if you're going to sit outside. It's nyc, after all.

Amazing food and generally good staff

By M0nika81 |

firstly, you need to find the entrance which is off Morton St, and feels a little bit like a speakeasy at first. The place itself has a great vibe and the staff were very attentive. The food was amazing and we ended up sharing a bunch of entrees and mains between the four of us, and then a few deserts. It was social/business meeting, so the time went very quickly by. The woman who was serving us did a great job and made some good recommendations. The only real negative though, was after we had been rushed to pay the bill, we all still had wine in the glasses, another guy (assuming manager) came to our table and quite abruptly and rudely told us we had stayed too long. I don't have an issue with a limit on the tables, but it was the manner it was done and conveniently just after they had been given a very healthy tip.

Neighborhood gem

By Courtney M |

We loved it - fantastic service, amazing food. Everything we had was excellently prepared and also had an interesting and well executed flavor profile. Tops.

On the pricy side but good

By Evan |

Cozy atmosphere with good service and great food, albeit a tiny bit pricy for what it is, and the portions aren't too large.

Great find in a wonderful neighbourhood

By Eric T |

We had heard about this restaurant from several smaller websites and did not know what to expect. We had to look for the restaurant as the sign was as minimilaist as possible in the corner of the window. (Creating cache?) Once inside, we felt like this was a little secret that we stumbled upon: Great creative drinks from "mixologists" who are proud of their craft. Fresh ingredients from a hopping kitchen that was intense in preparing the foods (LOVE IT) Tight confines for each table but never felt closed in Really enjoyed the food - good selection of fish and marinated and cured veggies and meats. Patio looked fantastic but was a little chilly/rainy that night

Well earned

By AlphaV24 |

I try to limit the number of 5 star reviews but this was well earned. We stumbled upon this place on a busy Friday night with no reservation. We were welcomed and it didn't take long to get a table even though they were full. Staff was friendly throughout. The cheese starter was a touch cool but a delicious trio. We had the hanger steak (a touch salty) and duck breast. Both excellent. We shared a decadent bundt cake for dessert with hearty coffee. The glasses of Malbec and Cabernet were not top notch but they were priced accordingly. Yes, it's loud. But everyone was having a good time.

Very accommodating to group of 14

By Robin N |

Had a large group of clients and they gave us the upper level. Service was efficient and well timed despite people coming and going at different times and the space being a bit of a challenge. Food was very good -- Buratta appetizer extra delicious! Prices were fair for portion sizes and NYC. Would definitely recommend.

Delicious food at brunch marred by aggressive plate clearing

By borninthebronx |

Brunch is very good here. Eggs are swell, just the best. Corned flake crust French Toast, Grapefruit with brulee on top: it's all grand. But from the moment you start eating someone is hovering to sweep away your items. I had a piece of toast to my mouth when a server swooped in to remove the plate on which it had lain seconds previously. There was still a spot of tea in the pot but the server swept it up without asking. This is the reason that a great place gets 4 instead of 5 stars. Restaurants at brunch should feel more relaxing than dinner on the beach with seagulls hovering.

Lovely atmosphere

By Jan J |

My husband and I happened upon this restaurant on a walk from where we were staying near Times Square via the Highline on a walk down to the Financial District. We had left our hotel early so were looking for somewhere to have breakfast/brunch. This was our first visit to NYC and a proper exploring trip. We arrived at the restaurant at about 9.30:- 10 a.m, and, from the outside it looked very busy and we were doubtful as to whether there would be any room for us, however we thought we would chance our luck and went in and asked and sure enough there was a table for two towards the back of the restaurant. It was very atmospheric in there with a large table of people in a festive mood wearing their Christmas jumpers, the restaurant was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The member of staff who seated us and brought our menus was very pleasant and gave us time to peruse the menu. I, being British, was looking for something familiar to eat and so decided on the two eggs (any style) with toast, and I chose bacon as a side. I asked for my eggs “over easy” as I’d heard of so may times on TV/films but wasn’t sure what it was. My husband opted for something more “daring”. The restaurant was busy, but very efficient, our hot beverages turned up very shortly after ordering and our food turned up about 20 - 25 minutes later. The food was delicious. I very much enjoyed my eggs over easy (and have since been cooking them this way since returning home) and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his food too. The only little niggle I had was that where I sat, there was quite a strong draught/draft coming through the window, so I had to sit with my coat on until my food arrived, although, to be fair, it was a very cold day, only just above freezing and had been snowing (on 11th December). However, we really liked this place and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again if we ever got the chance to go back to NYC. Also, after staying very close to Times Square, we didn’t find this place too noisy, it seemed like a quiet neighbourhood.

When food and service are excellent

By Ido8all |

Went to 447 hudson clearwater with my friend John who has been there before and loved my experience. Starting with the service, since we didn't have reservations and the place was almost completely packed we had the choice of bar or counter- we went for the bar and were amazingly welcome by Dylan who served us with loads of knowledge and tons of charisma. We decided to go with oysters for starters and from main course my friend took the fish and I took the lamb. We also got the side dishes of asparagus and artichoke. Almost Everything that we were served was amazing; My favourites where the lamb and the asparagus. I wasn't that impressed by the oysters and the artichoke so I would skip those next time I go there. For desert we took the chocolate ganache which was just about right. To summarise all, if you're looking for a great place with good food to have dinner or lunch I would definitely recommend 447 hudson clearwater.

West Village's top hidden spot

By Emma K |

From the façade on Hudson Street it looks like a store that has long since shut up shop, but if you walk around the corner and pass through an unmarked green door, you’ll find a twinkling secret garden and the doorway to a restaurant. Serving rustic American cuisine teamed with expertly mixed cocktails, Hudson Clearwater is the West Village’s number one hidden hotspot. Reservations recommended.

CHARMING, QUIRKY, SWEET STAFF

By Nigel W |

Loved it here. How do you choose somewhere to eat in NYC if someone hasn't recommended somewhere? Impulse! And that's what led us to eat lunch here. It was a great move. After a huge walk to the south of Manhattan and across the Brooklyn Bridge and heaven knows where else, this was a charming refuge from the urban bustle. The staff – our server Noah in particular – were delightful. As were the gnocchi we both ate. Gnocchi can go so wrong (rubbery, chewing-gummy awfulness) – these were light, almost fluffy, and tender, and dressed with a subtle tomato sauce and sprinnkled with pecorino. My gingery mule and my husband's brambly Pimms were perfect. We felt so happy here. So recommended!

Great food but sidewalk table not acceptable

By HAV847 |

Reservation for outdoors unfortunately meant the sidewalk, and given it was 90 degrees, it was hot. And our party for 5 sat at a table that fits 4 people. Not good, especially since it wasn't stable. But our servers and staff were great. We enjoyed the brunch menu, and the duck hash entree was outstanding. Definitely the pick of the table. Everything else ordered was solid and tasty. However, the outdoor seating near the street was not the best in hot weather, and to not have the patio seating was poor, especially for a group of 5. But because of the staff (they noticed a bone on the side of one of our plates and were concerned), we will definitely return! They were amazing! Hopefully the next time it will be inside or on the patio.

Best in New York

So far the best New York food experience! It doesn’t mean other ones were bad, this one was just great. Very super yummy food and great service. Lovely atmosphere and good value for money. Highly recommend.

The most accommodating staff

By Anna S |

It used to be a hidden gem..not any more, but still the quality of the food is fantastic, small seasonal menu. If you can have seats at the bar upstairs take them! That is where the food is cooked, and I wonder how they do it! The place is always packed still I have never gotten the typical NY trendy restaurant answer they always set you up somewhere comfortable to wait for a bit while you have a drink and they sit you quicker that you though was possible! Dinner, lunch and brunch are all fantastic.

Great place for breakfast, with a nice ambience!

By Claire B |

Found this restaurant on a lot of "best breakfast in New York" lists and after going last week, can definitely see why! It has a lovely ambience and decor inside, feels cozy and warm. The staff were superb, very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious and I would certainly go back again. :)

Great Place, Rude Gate Staff

By gsaurabh84 |

We went there couple of days back - tried pretty much everything in their menu. Mussels in the appetizers were great (portion was bit small), Duck Breast was super awesome, then our Entrees were beyond words - Fish of the day was Grouper, we ordered couple of Groupers which was also awesome. We ordered side of potatoes and they were nice too. We ordered Mushroom Spatzle as as a starter - we loved it. In desserts, we tried their Lemon Buttermilk Cheesecake, another cheesecake. With food we ordered a wine bottle, and after food we ordered dessert wines - Port Ramos Tawny. We also had 9 cocktails - Old Cuban, Volver, Hudson Mule and Sparrow. You can imagine - we had a good enough bill too between 3 people... the thing that surprised us is the behavior of the lady on the entrance, who came to us and said we are wasting their time and we should leave (this is while one of us went to use washroom). We were stunned not because of $400 bill - that was cool to us, but this employee who insulted us and God knows why, maybe she didn't like us spending money or maybe she doesn't want this restaurant to flourish. I can visit anytime but not till I know this restaurant has good employees. Btw, we loved our server "Mike" - he was great with awesome recommendations. I wish I knew the name of that lady - if she is the owner, I am done with this place.

Consistently good

By deepoceansw1 |

The guys do a great weekend breakfast. High high quality, and very fair prices. The staff are really friendly, and wide awake. They do a great dinner too. There's a small walled garden and chair outside at the front. This place does well, and absolutely deserves to.

Great Food, Even Better Service

By Swede555 |

Hudson Clearwater appears average from the exterior, but the experience blows away expectations. The cozy restaurant has two distinct levels, with a bar on each. The atmosphere is intimate, but not too loud, especially as it gets later in the night. Though we arrived without a reservation and had to wait roughly 30 minutes, the staff could not have been more welcoming. We were served complimentary hors d'oeuvres at the bar, and the staff moved quickly to prepare our table when the previous customers left. The upper level bar overlooks the kitchen staff working, so we were able to watch the food preparation as we awaited being seated. The cocktail and cider selections are simple but fantastic, with a nice range of beverages available. The food itself is fantastic, with incredibly healthy options as well as some splurge items. In particular, we really enjoyed the Burrata bread, the roasted asparagus side-dish, and the seared duck breast. Throughout dinner, the service was friendly and not even a bit pretentious. The staff was happy to offer meal suggestions, as well as change dishes for dietary restrictions. The best course was definitely the desert. The chocolate ganache as well as the financier were incredible. The ganache was light, yet full of flavor, and the financier was made of a blonde cake with flakey toasted almonds atop. The flavors blended well, and the desert was a perfect portion. We will certainly return, even if just for the service and desert!

Delicious food, but service is hit or miss

By Bryn S |

I used to love this place because I think the food is delicious, usually don't have to wait for a table, and overall like the vibes. I had a birthday meal here once and we had the best time and a great waitress. Last time I went, however, we had a waitress who was plain awkward. For me, it should be standard for a server to introduce themselves, ask if you've been here before, etc. There was absolutely none of that. In addition, she didn't know anything about the menu, wines, and came across like she was either sleep deprived or on something. Again, this is not my usual experience here - I used to love this place and go quit a bit, but the last time really put me off. For that ambiance and quality of food, they need great service to boot (which I've had before). Please take note, Hudson Clearwater!

Mixed review

By mcco |

Nice place. Good wine. Very nice wait staff for our group. But food was mixed. The pork and duck were delicious, but the bass was tough, dry and seemed to be the very tail end of 2 different fillets. We were on a tight schedule to see an off-broadway play, so we did not notify the server about the fish dish. However, for the prices they charge, that type of meal should not have been served.

New York´s finest!

By EderHM |

For Being my first time ever in New York, i have to say that i loved every part of this restaurant, the Duck was outstanding, desserts were great, and the fact that its popularity within new yorkers gave it the final touch, just like the say, GO were the locals GO!

A Wonderful Experience

By dasjung |

Came here on a whim over the weekend. I have heard of this place but this would be my first time visiting. We arrived without placing a reservation with much luck, as we were seated instantly at the Chef's Table on a busy Saturday night. Once we were seated, we were greeted with smiles and conversation by the server. We were so glad to grab this table as we could see the chefs perform at their best. We order a few cocktails that were satisfyingly strong, along with the seared squid to start. This dish was amazingly delicious. I wish there was more! As for the main courses, we had ordered the grilled ribeye and the pan-seared cod. Both were cooked to perfection and were so flavorful, yet simple. For a side dish, we shared a serving of seared shishito peppers that had a touch of lime atop. The place sits like a secret hidden away on the corner of the street. Once you go in, you're in for a treat. Just a great place with a warm vibe, paired with delicious food!

A real find

We were recommended to try this restaurant and went twice during our stay I New York. Really great food and service. Staff very pleasant and ambience great. Quite small and cosy with a sweet garden at the back. Can recommend the hamburgers! And also the avocado toast with chilli flakes. Open kitchen, very clean. Love it!

Best Steak EVER!!!!

By Liz M |

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The ambiance, the food the service, the cocktails, the list goes on; everything here is spectacular. I came here on a first date 3 weeks ago, and I have come back once a week every week since then, and I just made a reservation for later this week. That is how much I adore this spot. The hanger steak (which I order everytime I visit) or the duck breast or a must. I also love their mezcal cocktail called "volver" it's smoky and amazing, but be careful it'll sneak up on you. And the staff!!! Never have I met a friendlier group of people in the service business. From the manager Brandi, to my weekly server Sean, to the hot MD Alexsi. They just make you feel right at home. Do yourself a favor and do not hesitate to dine here at least once. I promise you, you will just keep coming back.

Good food at hip NYC eatery

By Marian C |

Lovely smaller NYC restaurant with mainly under 35 crowd. No children's menu so wouldn't recommend for younger children. Great place to connect with friends in prime location. Outdoor eating available, but no reservations outside. Nice find in an area crowded with restaurant choices. Slightly noisy but wOukd definitely return.

Sub Par at Hudson Clearwater

By Julia P |

Stay clear of Hudson Clearwater. Had reservation for weeks for Sunday brunch specifically in garden. Upon arrival only place they could seat us was next to the trash cans on side of the building. Rude manager said take it or leave it. Scrambled eggs came out with onions although specifically ordered no onions. Sent back and returned with very runny inedible scrambled eggs. Food overall was eh…nothing special. The entire experience was sub par. Too many fabulous restaurants in the West Village to waste your time here.

A hidden neighborhood spot

By angelblkdr |

Went to dinner here with a colleague. The restaurant is somewhat hidden as you enter through a rear patio. The street facing side looks like a non descript storefront. There was really no indication that there was a restaurant inside I actually found this place on another popular review site. The space is on the smaller side but the atmosphere and food did not disappoint. We sat at the chefs table (bar area around the open kitchen). I was able to every meal being prepared. We both got the duck breast and it was very good. This seemed to be more of a neighborhood place that mostly locals dine at regularly. I would definitely go back. Service was very attentive and accommodating.

Third time here, but ended on a sour note

By Capt_McCrea |

Made reservations for 4 people at 6.15 yesterday (Friday night) so when we arrived we were promptly seated as it was early for dinner in NYC. Perfect weather so we sat outside in the garden. This is my third time coming and food as usual was very solid. We had a couple bottles of wine, several beers, 2 salads, three appetizers (cheese was very good), 4 entrees (all solid, especially the fish of the day - grouper) and three desserts. So we had plenty of good food, perfect weather and an overall fun time. They did call me the morning of the reservation that the seating time target was 2 hours. Food came all on time and they hit their 2 hour mark. Would've been nice to stay a little longer to order some coffee, but you can sense they really wanted to turn the tables. They actually asked us to order the appetizers and entrees all at once which I'm sure helped. Anyways, got the bill and paid, and was waiting for my wife to return of the ladies room. Someone (a manager I suppose) came to the table and she told us that there were people who were at the bar waiting for 1.5 hours for our specific table. Keep in mind I had a 6.15 reservation and it was 8.17pm when she basically asked us to leave in a manner that said "your time is up." I replied that we were waiting for someone to return but figured why ruin our night with such poor service at the end and just left? Not to raise a phantom issue, but there were others already seated when we arrived who were still there when we left. We were the only ethnic minorities dining that time from what I realized and certainly did not raise any trouble - 2 physicians, an RN and an attorney who've been friends for over 30 years. Not like we were loud tourists. How could another party be waiting for 1.5 hours for the table we had a reservation for? If we stayed for 3.5 hours, then sure. Completely inappropriate, but clearly intentional that we were not welcomed and basically asked to leave with the taste that we would not be welcomed back - like we had stolen another customer's table. Too bad - I had liked the place.

Try the breakfast sandwich (and you will want to have brunch here every weekend!)

By AJinNewYork |

This is a local brunch spot for people who live in the West Village and is such a great place for brunch. In the summer you can sit in the garden in the back which is a great escape from the City. Definitely try the breakfast sandwich if you go for brunch. You won't be disappointed!

An excellent restaurant near the Hudson River

By OOBonomist |

From the moment you enter the courtyard (yes, courtyard) off a side street, you realize you've found something special -- an excellent restaurant in a part of Manhattan not known for them. Our eight diners were all delighted by everything from the amuse bouches to the dessert, where we shared everything on the menu. Funky decor, an open kitchen, and good service complete the picture. Definitely worth the trip and plenty of nearby free and metered, parking since it's not too near a subway.

Superb Lunch

By lauraduggan2015 |

A gem of a find in West Village, this cozy little cafe has a fantastic menu, a full bar, espresso coffee and fresh squeezed juices. It felt like a neighborhood favorite as people meandered in, ate and lingered to visit. The menu had a number of good salad selections that tempted me. I chose a wild rice bowl with hummus, marinated chick peas, lentils, avocado, marinated cauliflower and lettuce. I added a small piece of salmon. It was a perfect lunch with lots of neighborhood comings and goings to entertain us through the windows. The service was friendly and the food came quickly. Tip: The kitchen closes at 3:00 for lunch.

Always good!

By jussiewow |

I have been to Hudson Clearwater about 10 times now. The food in consistently good and the service is always excellent and friendly. The place itself is small, crowded and can feel a bit cramped when the bar is full. I highly recommend the seared duck breast and the black kale salad, Try the specialty cocktails from the bar menu and they have good deserts too. The reservation process is a little annoying you have to email them but they do get back to you fairly quickly.

Great for brunch in the garden

By 187147George |

This is a very good brunch menu which van be served in the quaint garden by young pleasant waiting staff - there is also an interesting cocktail menu should you require with brunch!! The menu choice - the food standard and drink presentation were all excellent

Very average, over rated outdoor dining.

By CincinatiLarry |

We found it dated. Table cloth restaurant prices but run down. Menu limited. Food average. We went for outside dining. Small and not very nice

very trendy and overcrowded but the food is good

By Claire C |

A little too trendy for its own good as it gets far too overcrowded and you get bumped in the elbow all the time whilst you are having your dinner if you are sat near a walkway which we were. Service slow and a bit snooty but the food is good and fresh. We had a nice time. But I am not sure we will return for all the above reasons. A little pricey as well

Relatively good experience for dinner

By CJWates |

The atmosphere, staff, and cocktails were nice. $35 for the duck is a bit excessive given the portion size.

Just excellent honest food

By Jacqui L |

Visited here with my son last month. Splendid food, notably the duck ravioli and seared tuna with heirloom tomatoes, in unpretentious surroundings with attentive service. What more could you want!

Wow

By Parker M |

What a great experience. Was recommended Hudson Clearwater by a local and it did not disappoint! My fiance and I visited over MLK weekend 2014, and this was one of the best meals of our trip. We sat at the chefs counter, which, if you don't mind sitting next to someone, this is a really neat aspect of the restaurant. It is literally right on top of the chef and his staff. I had the pork chop and my fiance had the seabass. Both meals were perfectly cooked and had great flavor. For a side dish, we got the shaved brussel sprouts, which went perfectly with our meal. The ambience, friendliness of the staff, as well as the quality of the food made for an overall great night. We will definitely go again.

Comfort Defined

By BonAppetitBoston |

There is that moment when you realize you have walked into a special restaurant. Hudson Clearwater is such a place. Finding the entrance to Hudson Clearwater is the first test. Regulars know that you have to go around the corner and.... (I won't spoil it). Stepping in you know that the open kitchen isn't just for show. The smells, the energy and the banter are real. This is a place for people who enjoy good food and drink without the pretense. After being seated, we noticed that everyone was happy - patrons and servers alike. We started with a very reasonably priced cabernet. A simple, but delicious amuse arrived. This was followed by two inventive and incredible - one with baby artichokes, the other with red endive. Our entrees were a french cut chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and spinach., along with duck breast and a bright medley of vegetables. We ordered a side of brussel sprouts. We were blown away. Incredible! Simply delicious. Although we shy from dessert, we ordered the cheese plate. Wow! The perfect ending to a perfect meal. A special shout out goes to the staff who are attentive and very knowledgeable without being intrusive.

Disappointed

By Espen |

Had heard great things about Hudson Clearwater and we were looking forward to going there. We were unfortunately disappointed by the place. We went there for a hip west village Sunday brunch. The food was pricey, and not very good. The staff was friendly, but service wasn’t all together great. On the objective side the restaurant has several seating alternatives. When the weather permits, there is a cosy backyard with several tables.

Fun, youthful and tucked out of the way hip spot for dinner.

By John C |

Came here with friends who live in the City that recommended it to us. It was not flashy or smart in the slightest, but it was very cool and the food extremely tasty. We sat at a table on the upper level near to the chef's kitchen and it was rather fun watching him cook our meal. The food was very good, I had duck raviolis to start followed by one of the best steaks I have had in the city. Not too rich but cooked just right. My Apple cobbler desert was great, rich, sweet and buttery. None of that went to waste! The wine, we ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir from Oregon which was a little light for this winter evening but it was exciting and fun to try. Service was good, happy and attentive. Would definitely recommend to any friends who want a cool night spot for dinner.

Fabulous food!

By BetsyDBennett |

Girls weekend in the city. We only made one dinner reservation and this was it. We ended up seated at the bar, overlooking the kitchen. Well it was where the food was being cooked, prepped, plated. Being foodies, this suited us just fine. The menu selections were few but interesting. We shared our plates. Ricotta gnocchi, seared duck breast, and a chilled seafood platter. (Swoon) the duck was mouth watering. Not that anything else was any less than awesome, but that’s what I would order if I went back. There were three chefs at work and they were fast but meticulous. I would go back and sit in the same spot just to watch them. Service was friendly and accommodating. Environment was lively, busy.

Sat at the counter and had great service and a fabulous meal

This restaurant had been recommended by a friend who lives in the area. The food and wine were really wonderful and the service excellent! We will be back the next time we are in town. We highly recommend it!

Good food

Noisy but delicious! Outside would be more relaxing for talking but it closes at 10pm and we were too late.

a hidden gem

Nice wine list for a hidden little neighborhood spot. The patio will be lovely in Summer. Monkfish cheecks were a standout.

Casual relaxed breakfast.

Good food, friendly attentive staff, lovely setting. Great find for a laid back unrushed late breakfast.

Great place, a little tucked away

By jkennedy125 |

My group & I arrived at Hudson Clearwater after being recommended to us by a friend. It didn't disappoint. We were all pleased to eat here on our first night in NYC. Most of us had the steak which was cooked to perfection. My fiance's duck was really nice too. Only downer was the portions could have been larger. But everything else surpassed expectations. Great vibes. Awesome location. Felt exclusive given the hidden entrance. We were seated in one of the 4 seater tables at the top. Absorbed the atmosphere and were really pleased to have the Hudson Clearwater experience.

Hidden Treasure

By HaleyandSteve |

You have to know where to find it, and when you do, you will want to come back! Beautiful inside and out. The service is excellent. The brunch menu is wonderful. Proud Mary is perfection. We had the Brioche French Toast and Smoked Salmon during our last visit. Between the Mary and the Salmon, I was in Caperberry Heaven. The blend of flavors in every bite and every sip is just amazing!! Can't wait for our next trip to the city.

Loud!

By Melissa K |

We were meeting as a group of 10 for a Sunday lunch. The wait staff seemed inconvenienced, the tables are crammed together and it was very loud. We weren't able to converse without screaming. Some of the food was cold when it finally arrived. I would avoid this place unless you have a small group and can eat outside.

Excellent

Great service. Delicious food and tasty drinks. I'm excited to go back in the summer for dinner on the patio.

Delight your Palate

With a meal at Hudson Clearwater you will absolutely be delighted! Perfect atmosphere, cozy seating style and wonderdul menu options to surprise the tastebuds! Entering through the side door & walking through the quaint garden is a wonderful touch for Sunday brunch!

Really Good

By E-pottii |

Great food great fun place to go and worth going back. Five of us and everyone left happy. It is a lively place, maybe for the young crowd which I am not but I recommend it highly for all.

Breakfast with starters is a little pretenteous

By Elena C |

Food was very good. Ordered the duck hash for about $18 but it wasn't enough to fill me. They serve starters and mains for breakfast which is a little odd. Staff were a bit soulless. The food did taste very good but was overpriced and portions small.

A great evening

By Jill C |

Our party of four enjoyed a number of appetizers, salads, and entrees. Fish was perfect. Enjoyed the interesting vegetable additions. The portions were as expected, plenty for us! No room for dessert, unfortunately. The wait staff was pleasant and efficient. Nice atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant and so glad we chose it! Reservation is a must, done via email.

Stay clear of Hudson Clearwater

By Ginacucina |

Called a week in advance to reserve a table for 7 for Sunday brunch. (I should have checked TripAdvisor first.) Was told we would need to reserve the private room if we had more than 6 guests and there would be a $50 minimum per person. Since we were celebrating someone's birthday and it was a special occasion, we agreed to this. When we arrived for the brunch, we were seated at a very squished table in the front corner with an extra chair brought out to accommodate 7. We told them about the reservation and private room and they said "well somebody else has that now so we put you here." We asked if the $50 minimum no longer applies since we are now not in a private room, and they said "no, it still applies because we had to bring an extra chair here from another table." The drinks were very good (Proud Mary bloody mary was delicious). The food was good but nothing spectacular and nothing to balance out the horrible service. Part of our party was 20 minutes late due to traffic, and the waitstaff came over to the table 5 times in 20 minutes to ask when everyone else would get there and could we go ahead and order. When the entire party was present, they took our orders quickly, but delivery of a second drink took 25 minutes. Among the 7 of us we tried the veggie burger, southern eggs benedict, steak & eggs, chicken sandwich, and gnocchi. Gnocci got great reviews, everything else just ok. Near the end of our visit here, the person who was picking up the tab had gone to the restroom and the waiter was very impatient to have us pay. He stood at the table for the next 5 minutes, making us all uncomfortable and anxious, until our family member returned and paid the bill. We paid in cash and told the waiter to keep the change as the tip (it was a 20% tip regardless of poor service). He returned with the change, minus $8. Apparently he failed math class. THEN, a young woman came over to our table and asked us to leave asap because they had another party coming. We still had not given gifts to our son (just TWO gifts, not a whole pile), and we really didn't want to make him open them out on the sidewalk, so we ignored her request for another 5 minutes and he hurriedly opened his gifts. I should mention that I was still sipping my bloody mary since it was brought to the table so long after I had ordered it, and the establishment's rushing us compelled me to down the drink quickly. I was not about to leave behind a very well made $16 bloody mary and they did not offer a to-go cup. I would NEVER go here again and would recommend it to NO ONE. The service is beyond poor; the service is incredibly rude and the only reason they are in business is because every single solitary establishment in Manhattan -- especially in the West Village -- can stay in business just on Sunday brunch alone. New Yorkers love their brunches. Stay CLEAR of Hudson Clearwater.

Small but well thought out menu and drinks

By March-Fourth |

Excellent brunch / lunch spot! Warm weather has the option of outdoor seating out back. The space is overall a little tight but gives it a high energy feel. (One older 'gentleman' demanded to be moved as his table was too small for grown adults.) Starting with drinks...great non-alcohol selection, natural sodas (maple lemon, sour cherry, etc.) and fresh juices. Beers and wines sourced from all over and a little quirky (Gamay by the glass). Food - Delicious...Avocado toast (that I can't make), portobello panini (optional sides - fruit, salad or fries!) Fires were great...the skinny crispy kind. Service - the food came out sooo fast, almost too fast for a business meeting. Server was nice but was overly attentive early and almost non-existent late.

Go to brunch for Greenwich Village.

Found the reviews online and gave it a try. Delicious food with a creative flair. Enjoyed seeing the open kitchen. Will return again.

West Village spot

By verypicky57 |

This was wonderful. We started with the assorted cheese plate while we studied the menu. The service was excellent, the food was great and it was a lovely experience.
