Latin dancing in Midtown

By Mercedes E |

Some friends and I went here to dance after getting drinks nearby. We were only at the upper level, which had the Latin dancing, and it was great. We arrived a little after 9pm on a Friday and the crowd was pretty good with most people enjoying themselves dancing and guys asking you to dance without being pushy. There are some tables lining the dance area, but it requires a $20 min spent per person, so my friends and I decided to just put our things in the corner and one of us kept guard or kept an eye out if we all went to dance. Only other negative is the mandatory coat check ($3) if it didn't fit in your bag-mind you this was only for females. A bit annoying but i stuffed my bag in my purse. If I had come with a clutch or small bag I'd have to check. You can avoid this by coming early and eating there. I'd come again especially in summer when there's more of a crowd.

Very enjoyable Mexican restaurant

By Richard M |

A nice, atmopheric restaurant near Times Sq. The service was great, food was very nice and the building is pretty cool. We had a nice couple fo main meals and some very tasty desserts. The wine was a good bottle and my liquor coffee was presented with a small presentation show!! Very nice.

Dark.

I am trying to remember how we ended up in this restaurant. I think that someone in our group said "oh look Mexican." The outside had a few tables and looked inviting so in we went. Wrong decision. I think from there on it was a game of chicken to see if anyone was going to pull the plug. I think we just stayed because we were off to the theater and did not have time to find another place. Long and short of it. We left hungry because it was not a pleasant atmosphere, the waiter was a jerk and the food was just bland and questionable. I mean lots of grease. Just yuck.

Answer the dam phone !!!

By BobCMiddletown |

We have been to Iguana’s many times for both lunch and dinner. This visit was a big time disappointment ! We had reservations for Noon and had asked to be seated in our favorite area. We were told there was a party there which there wasn’t and were seated right behind the reception area. The dam reception phone rand constantly throughout our entire meal and pretty much ruined our appetites. The food was decent but the service was unbelievably slow and items we asked for like salsa were never delivered. Sorry to say I’ll never return.

Large Space Can Accommodate Groups and Crowds

By fluffnfold |

My spouse and I visited Iguana Restaurant and Dance Lounge for drinks and snacks on a Saturday afternoon in early December 2017. We were staying across the street at the Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South/Midtown West, and we stopped at Iguana for a self-created happy hour. Iguana is open daily for weekday lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner. You can make a reservation using the online Open Table system. Iguana is located on West 54th Street in the Midtown West neighborhood. The interior space is large, covering three floors. The basement contains a club area with a separate bar that was unused when we visited; restrooms are also on this lower level. The main/street level offers dining at the unusual free-form-shaped bar or at tables in one of two main dining areas arranged on either side of a walkway that leads back to the kitchen. One of the dining areas contains a slightly raised platform/floor that positions its tables a few inches above the rest of the room. The second floor, which seems reachable only by staircase, contains additional space for a Latin Club, where recurring special events are held on weekends. Iguana serves Mexican food. We sampled the guacamole, which is prepared tableside, along with a few rounds of drinks. One drink was a frozen mango margarita; however, the flavor seems to be introduced via a small frozen ball, and it had not really melted before I finished my drink, so buyer beware if you choose to order one of their 25 frozen drink flavors. We sat at the bar, and service was slow despite it being rather empty and three bartenders present. Staff congregated and talked amongst themselves off to one side of the bar rather than attending to customers. Iguana served our purposes; however, because of the frozen drink issue and the slow service, and with so many other options in the area, we will likely go elsewhere next time.

Excellant Brunch

Nice Champagne and eggs Benedict with a Mexican twist. Great staff bilingual of course and great service

Go somewhere else.

Horrible food cold. Terrible service. Go somewhat else. I understand it’s the Holidays but get your act together. You need more help. Cold tasteless food.

Better spots around

By dickbob |

We went here for a drink as it was right across from our hotel and it looked fun. Thy had a mariachi band playing as you came in and I thought we would sit in the bar area for a beverage. Our first surprise was no server in the bar area, we sat at a table but had to go to the bar for our drinks. We wanted to try some guacamole that they smash up for you at your table side and it tasted good. The bad surprise was near the end of our basket of stale tortilla chips, there was a crumpled up receipt. Gross. There are better spots in this area.

Went there three times! Go for Happy Hour!

By OregonSharon |

First visit, wanted a quick bite so I had the Mexicana quesadilla. Service was very nice during a VERY busy time. BUT since the place was directly across the street from our hotel (Courtyard Marriott/Cental Park) we went TWO more times for Happy Hour. BUSY, BUZZY place with the after work crowd and no wonder! Two house margaritas were $14 total and they were STRONG and tasty, plus other drink specials. Just a fun place to stop in with nice bar folks!

Loved it!!

By STGTRV |

My wife and I just had dinner at the Iguana and were extremely happy with our choice. We were planning to go to another high rated restaurant and it started to rain and were slipped into the Iguana. Had a couple of beers and then decided to have dinner. Chips came in assorted colors which I usually whine about but the salsa verde that came with it was good so I shut up. My wife ordered shrimp and filet kabobs which came with rice and assorted dipping sauces. The shrimp were a nice size and the filet was extremely tender. The sauce were flavorful and went very well with the kabobs. I ordered Tex-Mex Fajitas and they were great. The steak was in thicker slices than usual and it was very tender. These were the best fajitas I have ever had. It came with the usual side dishes. We were both extremely happy with our meals. I will definitely go there again.

Ok Bar and Service

By Frank D |

Stopped in for a few drinks and was not informed of large private party that dominated bar and restaurant. Overprice standard beers. Asked for Craft beer offering and was told they didn't have any. Service was ok at best. Never got a chance to eat as it wasn't made available to me.

Awanted something different

By mangia007 |

Had the tacos and the my had the taco salad. Ate outside people watched. Food was good service was good.

Excellent!

By indygirl8451 |

Some of the other reviews are NOTHING like what we experienced. We stumbled across Iguana and saw they had a $6 margarita special. They have 29 different flavors of margaritas!!!! It doesn't get much better than that. My friends each got sangrias and they were the BEST sangrias we have ever tasted. Food was delicious, fresh, and leaving us wanting more but the portions are already large so our belly couldn't eat what we had. ALL of the staff were amazing and friendly. Carlos and "Peligro" were friendly, knowledgeable and quick to get us our food/drink orders. My only negative comment, is that we went on our last day in NY. Had we known about this place earlier we would have eaten there more than one time for sure! They also have a latino and hip/hop club at night (one upstairs and one downstairs) to my understanding but we didn't get to check that out as we had a plane to catch. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!

Decent Mexican Fare

By GPaCalgary |

We shared some chicken enchiladas and crab cakes for dinner with our friends. The service was a tad spotty s we had to find our server to order more drinks. Food was tasty but nothing special.

Fantastic, autentico, and bustling

By Willji |

We dropped in for a dinner on Saturday night and had Pollo Campero Enchilidas, pulled pork tacos, and margaritas. Each one was fantastic and generous with regards to portion. The place was bustling and busy with songs, laughter, and conversations, but even with the pace we were seated with no wait!

Much better Mexican elsewhere

By chobrien5 |

Much better Mexican elsewhere in Times Square. We went for a pre theatre dinner. Service was exceptional, food very over priced. Too many onions and peppers and very skimpy on the steak and chicken in my fajitas. Sangria was tasty but overpriced.

Average food and service...overpriced

By Rafael I |

Visited this restaurant after having read some good feedback and in hope to see some salsa. My overall perception is: Average food and service. quite overpriced for its level.

Friendly

By Dawn |

Enjoyed guacamole and fajita while listening to the Nighthawks. Enthusiastic crowd made it a fun evening.

Great place for Pre-show dinner

By Bing C |

Looking for a good place off of Times Square to do dinner before seeing a show, we happened upon this place. Great atmosphere and food. Our waiter was friendly and funny. We shared chips and guacamole prepared at the table. Also shared a quesadilla with grilled steak. I had an excellent margarita!

Big band night

By Nicole C |

Great food and service. Went with a group and had a really fun evening starting with margaritas and yummy appetizers. Ordered salmon which was fresh and perfectly cooked and ended with crisp tortilla basket filled with fried ice cream. And the band - at least a 10 piece band playing all the old favorites. Believe they were called the Night Hawks and don’t want to miss them at the Iguana next time we were in New York.

Night in New York

By Maycgote |

Great atmosphere! Well served with a great staff. A place that differs from the others around in New york. Can really recommend the place. Negative thing is that even as a guest of the restaurant you need to pay entrance to their salsa club which in my opinion should be free for all restaurant guests.

Great Big Band surprise on Monday & Tuesday nights upstairs!

By Stevieconlon |

Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks are generally in residence upstairs on Monday and Tuesday nights at the Iguana, just around the corner from The Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway in NYC where Stephen Colbert’s Late Show is filmed. The band has been featured on a number of recordings and soundtracks including Boardwalk Empire and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The 11 piece big band (led by bandleader and bassist Vince Giordano) focuses on post Great War big band classics. Dancers are welcome and there are usually some in the audience that hit the floor during the show. On many occasions, guest vocalists perform, which is great. There is a cover and drink minimum but it’s well worth it! A real hard to find treat!

Don't treat your customers like they're stupid

By nicolana2017 |

Came here for lunch with a friend. It was lunch time, received a lunch menu and promptly ordered off the lunch menu. I guess they were just about to transition to dinner but they did not give us any forewarning. When the bill came we noticed the prices were significantly different from what we saw on our menus. When I asked the waiter about it he told me I was mistaken and brought over two menus one dinner and one lunch. What he really did was bring over two dinner menus, showed me the same menu twice and told me I was wrong. I worked as a waitress for years, I know sometimes the system changes automatically, the least he could've done was be honest instead of try to make me look and feel stupid. In the end they changed my dish to lunch prices, as that was the menu I ordered from in the first place. They didn't change my friend's price but at that point we were just tired of their bs and wanted to leave so we didn't bother pursuing the issue anymore. Needless to say I will NEVER be back. Food was extremely mediocre by the way. So many better restaurants to spend your money on where they don't treat their customers like idiots.

Great food. Excellent dixieland

By vaskfam5 |

There is a cover,if you see entertainment . Food approx $23 a plate. Enchiladas with beans, rice, sour cream and guacamole was delicious. Vincent Giordano and the nighthawks exceeded my expectation. In theatre district. Great find.

Salsa Dancing

By Rhonda M |

I went here with some friends because they have free Salsa lessons on Thursday nights. The club is huge and has an amazing dance floor. They also serve dinner. The crowd was fun, and the club has a great atmosphere! Will definitely be going back!

Expensive but Delish

By Wendy R |

We had great service and the food was wonderful. They will make you homemade guacamole at your table. Beer selection isn't great, but the cocktail selection is.

Fabulous Jazz with the Nighthawks & Good Food, Too

By MariaTer. |

We went with another couple to Iguana on Tuesday night when the jazz group Vince Giordana and the Nighthawks plays, besides on Monday night. We had no idea what to expect in terms of food--knowing there was a $20 cover charge per person, we assumed we would be eating. We were very pleasantly surprised. Our friends ordered Mexican dinner and drinks; we had wine, Cesar salad and dessert. We all agreed that the food was superb, which is so rare in nightclub venues. The ambiance was lovely and service very good. And the Nighthawks were terrific! We all will be returning.

Average Texmex in loud restaurant

By rick19348 |

Nothing special about the food. Shrimp enchiladas were tasty and fresh. Salsa was flavorful. We ordered caipirinhas but were disappointed that they were not sweet enough. The restaurant was very loud with a number of tables of inebriated patrons to the point where we could not have a conversation or hear the waitress. May be better at lunchtime or for an early dinner

Nice Mexican place

By Bernardo F |

It was a nice Mexican place. Inside and semi outside seating, The place was clean and the service was nice. Good food, and priced for NYC.

Iguana Mexican Restaurant

By Lori H |

Good Mexican food at reasonable prices for New York City. I would definitely eat there again. Stacked enchilada was excellent.

Terrible food

By suzanne d |

We went for a late lunch today onrcommendation of our hotel which is nearby. The restaurant is dark and dreary and the food was about the same quality as Taco Bell. Very pedestrian with little flavour and no spice. When we got the bill they had charged us dinner prices although we ordered from the lunch menu. They did change it but made us feel they were doing us a favour.

Iguana

By Bri1181 |

I love this spot. I've gone on two times for my birthday. The food and the service is great. It's great getting serenade while enjoying a good meal. After dinner, I normally head upstairs to get my dance to some Latin music. I always enjoy going to Iguana's. I recommend.

Nice night out!

By cvillaman |

If you like Latin music and cousin this place has it all, food and ambience on the second floor were good, the only thing is that gets too crowed it, hard to move around but we had fun!

Near the end of a long day

By Mike M |

It was near the end of a long day of rehearsals and meetings. My wife wanted to see some more but I was beat. We stopped in just to appease her. The people were fabulous! The manager, the staff, the patrons; everyone seemed to be there for a good time. That’s what we ended up having and that’s what I needed. The food was quality. The music on the two dance floors was exceptionally good. It is a great, comfortable place to dance and enjoy Latin or rhythm and blues music. The cover charge for the dance floors was $15. It was a bargain.

Avocado Fever

By myjaljo |

Stopped by after a walk out to Time's Square. Enjoyed the very tasty avocado relleno. Their play on a Chile relleno without the chile nor the batter. Half of an avocado used as a bowl and the other half of the avocado prepared as guacamole with tomatoes, red onions, salt, pepper, and several pieces of sauteed shrimp. This on a bed if lettuce. Very tasty and filling. My wife enjoyed the steak, cooked just right, my daughter had the Cesar's salad, and my son had a cheese quesadilla with rice and beans. Everything was prepared as ordered and fill of flavor. Highly recommend, they have a DJ, dance floor, and bars to enjoy. My only concern was the speed of the wait staff. Other than slow attention to our table, We will be back.

Visit

By laizy a |

Hi I had a great time!!! But the waitress Angelina was very rude!!!!!!!!! And throw water on me while I was leaving. I. Purpose because of jealousy of the manager!!! People who work together shouldn’t work in the same place. Really bad service!! Did not even come to our table once!

Great Steak!

By Nmack75 |

Stopped here for an evening meal. The steak was excellent - served with garlic butter, The burrito was good but not great.

Fabulous food

By JaynieT1963 |

This is the 2nd time we have been to this restaurant. The food and service is really good. With Mexican musicians playing too lol. It’s very relaxed. Order guacamole and they make it at your table. If, when you are finished you are not ready to go home you can go upstairs to the Latin club. Great music but drinks are pricey

Poor over priced food and underhand charging

By Getaway654980 |

Visited with family on holiday to New York. Not only had they added extra beers to the bill, bit after automatically adding 18% service they try and get you to add a further gratuity when paying by card. Food distinctly average and overpriced. Be warned.

Hearty Brunch Cheap Price

By pollytalknyc |

If you're going to the theater this gem for Brunch is amazingly reasonable the Mexican style food comes in generous portions and one libation with it. The atmosphere is nicely decorated and I found the not so high balcony area a pleasant place to done. No reservation necessary.

Great margaritas, mojitos and food

By Beth M |

Stopped by for a snack and drinks. Food was delicious and the drinks were fantastic! We enjoyed it so much that we went back later!

Unbelievable mixed drinks to go with a nice dinner

By marius f |

Considered myself to ba a mixed drink pro, almost a mixologist. But a recent visit to the upstairs dance floor, changed my mind about where I stand. The bartenders' skills blew mine out of the water. Can't remember his funny name but the guy is a master. Couldn't stop observing and tasting his artful libations. Check him out. You won't regret it.

Sucked!

By WilCee |

Below average at best! Thought I'd stop in to eat with a date after catching a show...bad idea! Poor selection of food and so-so service. Bad tasting drinks (how do you butcher a Mojito?). Went to dance floor above the main dining floor. Had to pay to enter and forced to check coat - yet saw others on floor with coats. Music was ok, but mixes were ill-timed and just bad. Drinks were mixed badly and were top-shelf expensive, despite seemingly using bottom-shelf liquor. Would NEVER go there again! Stay away!!

Best Tex- Mex we've had

By Mahananye |

From the chips & salsa & throughout the whole meal, our food was delicious!!! Fresh & the juiciest chicken we've had in a long time! We shared several items to taste many flavors and had plenty to eat. Fantastic service as well. We will definitely return!!

Great food and good service

By LindaW9876 |

Great food, staff very accommodating - good service and reasonable prices. Cocktail specials ensured we returned.

Great Jazz by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks

By ji1963 |

I came here specifically to see Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, a Grammy-Award-winning 11-piece band that specializes in music from the 1920s and 1930s. They perform at Iguana New York every Monday and Tuesday evening. The jazz was world class, and it was like stepping back in a time machine! If you're a music fan, this is not one to miss. The food was good, but a little expensive (What isn't in NYC?). My six-year-old daughter just wanted a scoop of ice cream with whipped cream for dessert and they charged us $10 for that - They should have given us a lower price on it. Other than that, I had no complaints about the food or the service.

Fantastic jazz - of another wonderful era

By Ritzy-Fitzy |

Had a fabulous recent Monday night listening to the wonderful jazz played by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. A mere $20 to get in, a TexMex (what is that? we don't do it in Oz) meal, and then I was simply enthralled as these amazingly skilled musicians played me back into the 1920s and 30s. What a marvellous New York memory to treasure!!

Super!

By nikthakor |

Me and my wife visited the restaurant for our anniversary, the service was fast and staff were very friendly. The food was very nice, probably the best Mexican in NYC!

Horrific - Avoid at All Costs

By Mark B |

Cold processed chicken, unfriendly staff who avoided eye contact all evening until it was time to pay, and then they aggressively asked for a tip. Fortunately our Christmas Day was memorable for the right reasons, and this 'meal' hasn't spoiled it.

Great music and food

By MF C |

My boyfriend and I were here last evening to hear Vince Giordano and the Night Hawks. What a wonderful experience. The venue is on the second floor. You're greeted by a friendly hostess who collects a $20 person cover charge. In addition if you're at a table they expect you to spend another $20 each. But no worries. The food and drinks are excellent. The Night Hawks performance is first class entertainment. The venue is on the small side but you'll manage fine. We got to meet Vince who came over to each table at break times. You can purchase cds if you want. They also do a little raffle twice with the prizes being one of those cds. This is a great way to spend an evening. BTW, Vince performs Mondays and Tuesdays at the Iguana.

GUACAMOLE

By karacrompton |

Walked in at 11 after seeing Hamilton, and even though it was late everyone was so kind! Everything was delicious but the guacamole was out of this world!

OK Mexican Food - Slow Service

By Traveller |

My wife, two children and I ate dinner here in May 2018 at about 10 pm. I think the ambience was OK. I had enchilidas with rice and beans and fried ice cream for dessert. I thought the service was a bit slow. My family enjoyed their dinner. I would say in comparison to other Mexican restaurants I have eaten in that the food is OK but not outstanding.

Loved this place!

By Cyndi K |

I was hesitant about trying Mexican Food in NYC but this place was very good and one Margarita will get a buzz going! Chips and Salsa were both good and fresh Guacamole looked really good.

Fun Mexican restaurant with good food

By shellyf |

Six of us had a pre-theatre dinner here on a Friday eve and were pleasantly Surprised by the good food and service. We started with the made-at-your-table Guacamole and we all loved it. We then had Various appetizers and most opted for the steak fajitas for the entree; all delicious. The place was packed with people and it was very noisy with people having a good time. Our waiter was very good & helped us get out on time for our show. The tab including food, drinks, tax & and tip was $400.

Fun Sunday Brunch

By Arlene S |

We had a nice family brunch. The food was good and spicy but not spectacular. Our main waiter was a bit slow and surly but the rest of the staff was pleasant

Got food poisoning

By btdugan |

I left the restaurant and went to my hotel next door, when suddenly a pain gripped my stomach and I began to sweat heavily. I called asking them to send a doctor and their answer as to call 911 because I was no longer in the restaurant. Terrible. I suffered for about 2 hours with intense pain before it began to subside.

Food good but Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks were even better

By Aussiesailor |

The amazing Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks Orchestra drew us to this Mexican restaurant. Visiting from Australia, we were thrilled to be there. Good food was a bonus. Four of us had the usual Mexican fare and all the dishes were as expected. Huge serves surprised us. We had to ask that our mains be delayed and staff happily did this. We thought prices were reasonable. Good service overall. The wonderful big band, however, made our night at the Iguana very special.

Tasty Fresh Mex

By Arlene D |

Hats off to Iguana. We were in a pinch and they were able to accommodate a 10 person gathering right after work. The food is Mexican and very very tasty. The guacamole made to order at the table was so fresh, we ordered a second. We ordered a variety of items and one was just as good as the next. They had happy hours with really great prices for sangria and beer which was great. The place is large and on the top floor they actually have dancing........that's next time. Highly recommend if you're in the Time Square/Colombus Circle area.

Lovely meal - great food

By eviekathleen1993 |

We stayed in the Hilton across the road and came over for dinner one evening and thought everything was lovely - the food was excellent, the service friendly, good wine and good atmosphere. One of my favourite meals of my holiday and I thought the prices were very fair.

Shocking Dinner!

By Jacqueline D |

Picked this restaurant, as was close to the theater we were going to. Guacamole was listed as being made at the table, which it wasn't & asked for no onions, which they included anyway! Main courses very disappointing - taco's didn't resemble any taco I have ever seen before. Coconut margaritas were a let down. Waiting staff absent & didn't appear interested in customers at all. Pricey non-authentic food, horrible experience - won't be going back, save your money!

Average food but nice atmosphere

By Harpa B |

We had a very good guacamole which was made in front of us. The main course (fahitas) was average. The place had a lovely atmosphere.

They charge me twice and they don’t want to give me my money back

By Carmen S |

I’m italian, I was in vacation in NY. I called them, I wrote them but they don’t want to give me my money back, they say I’ve to go back there. I’ll change my review once I’ll get my money back

Terrible... You pay to breathe...

By Franciane C |

Terrible... You pay to breathe... We just stepped by to check this place out. We had to pay the entrance, we were obligated to leave the coach and pay for it, even though we didn’t want to. The waitress was rude and the place was totally empty.

Loved it so much we ate there teice

By ccmac05 |

This Mexican restaurant was recommended to us by a family member who frequents NYC. On a Sunday night for dinner we had no wait. Our favorite was the table-made guacamole! We loved our food so much we went back for lunch on Thursday during our week-long stay. We were surprised that the portion sizes were exactly the same but when the bill came they were labeled “lunch portion” at a discounted rate from our dinner previously. Either way the guacamole is delicious and made at your table to your liking; the staff was very attentive and friendly and we had no wait ether visit! Five stars.

Huge selection of Margeritas!

By Dawn7799 |

Very nice drinks! Although expensive (isn't most of NYC?), the drinks, especially Margeritas and Martinis, were fun and so many different flavors.

Nice suprise

By GYNinSTL |

We decided last minute to try this place out. We found the staff and atmosphere to be very comforting. The table side guacamole was delicious. Our table had everything from fish, steak to a burrito. All were excellent.

A Four Is About Right

By Sean F |

If you have kids and are going to a show, this place is perfect. Try to sit towards the front, if you are in the back, you are on top of the disco and can’t hear yourself think. The food was good, and the people were nice. It’s a bit pricey for rice and chicken, but they do a nice job.

Wow!!! Great dinner

By Laladjaf |

Everything was sooo delicious! Fin atmosphere and warm service. Definitely a good surprise and will be back again. The coconut shrimps, margaritas and guacamole were just incredible. We really enjoyed our evening here!!

Disappointing

By Lisa P |

I am sadden by the recent visit to Iguana in NY. The services was disgusting. We waited for 45 mins to get our order taken and then another half hour for soda refills….we then found out they could only do cash. The ATM “doesn't” belong to them and is 17% of the money taken….after spending $165 on food, they told us the don’t own the club and it an additional $20. Don’t do it…go elsewhere.

Consistently good

By kchild1234 |

We eat here every year when we visit NYC. The food is predictably good, every time. Tableside quacamole is good (have to ask for a few more chips). Service is good and there is usually not a wait.

Mexican

By DublinKH |

We dined there after the musical ended just before 11:00pm. They have a danced floor upstairs and it seemed very popular. The service was good, but slow. The food was good enough, but very pricy. Because it was late, there were not many restaurants open.

Holy Crap the taquitos are a rip-off

By countryfried81 |

A friend and I stopped in for lunch on Sunday 4/22/18. I ordered the taquitos four of them for $14.00, total rip-off. My friend got the steak sandwich and fries $19.00 still a rip-off but not as bad as the taquitos. In the end I had the taquitos and to three beers $40.83. There are definitely less expensive places to eat that are equally good or better.

Great Happy Hour

By Taylor B |

We stayed at the Ameritania Hotel right next door to Iguana. We had a few hours to kill before our driver picked us up to take us back to the airport and we saw the happy hour sign outside the restaurant and decided to give it a try! We all had flavored margaritas and they were all delicious. The bartender gave us some chips and salsa which was a nice bonus. The only downside, which apparently is just a NY thing, the will not give a bill to individuals. You have to give them multiple forms of payment for it to be split up evenly.

HORRIBLE DJ on 11/10/23

By Johana D |

Do NOT go to this place. Especially, if the DJ is the one playing tonight 11/10/23. He is HORRIBLE!!! He is been playing the same music for more than half an hour. He is HORRIBLE! I’m going to find out who he is and will let you know. I visited this place another joght and he was the same way, I wasn’t going to come back, but tried again tonight. What a freaking mistake.

Mojitos & Guacamole for lunch!!

By 4_Travlin_Fools |

This is my favorite spot to grab lunch when visiting NYC. I've had the pleasure of having Jesus as a waiter the last couple of visits and he is a pleasure. The guacamole is made fresh at your table and is worth every penny. The mojitos - all 26 flavors - are wonderful. I've managed to have 9 of the flavors over the years. One of these trips I'll stay for the party downstairs.

If i could give 0 i would.

By Dec R |

Firstly, the service was awful. Waiter very rude and wasn’t interested in us, that was untill it was time for the tip! Which i will come onto later. The fajitas were processed chicken, the wraps were crispy and cold, and it was tasteless. I wouldn’t have given it to my dogs to be honest. Cold, tasteless, terrible. To top it off, we were then cornered by the waiter, where he rudely asked for the tip, and when we said no tip as it was poor, he sarcastically wished us a merry christmas. Poor! Avoid.

SO GOOOOOD

By mororke |

Great place to eat, but they get busy so I recommend a reservation. Good margaritas! There is also clubs upstairs and downstairs to enjoy after you eat.

Convenient lunch

By Djevojka |

We stopped in for lunch today, as it was the most convenient (right across the street from our Hilton Garden Inn). Being from Texas, I may be judging it a bit harshly, so keep that in mind. The food was fair+, hot and plentiful. The service was average overall, but he was very nice. The price was fair for what we ordered. I think the nicest part of the visit was the pleasant waiter. The worst aspect was that the lights are kept very low and I had to use my phone to read the menu well. Not bad but not great, hence the “3” rating. No need to return.

Fun,relaxing atmosphere!

By Lori R |

I went to Iguana to pick up some carryout and I wasn't expecting to find a warm, friendly place so close to Timesquare! The food was delicious, the entire staff friendly and accommodating and they had 2 different dance floors, one with free lessons!! My only complaint was that I could not get my wheelchair inside because of no handicap access due to the age of the building. Luckily, I can walk, just not long distances. I even had a nice conversation with a young man at the bar while waiting for my food. Very frefreshing-fun place!

The fabulous Vince Giordano and Mexican comfort food

By Janice_Rossi |

We came here Monday night to hear Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, who plays most Monday and Tuesday nights upstairs (amazing jazz of the 1920's and '30s). First show starts at 8. Be sure to make a reservation and then get there at 7 or 7:30 if you want a good seat. Vince was great beyond belief. But the surprise was the food and drinks which were delicious. I had their "skinny margarita" on the rocks with salt. OK I had two! Salsa and chips came free. I had the chicken fajita, served on a sizzling cast iron plate (flavorful and low calorie) and my husband had the enchiladas which he loved. We also ordered guacomole which was fresh and chunky. The only negative to the evening were some of the people on the dance floor who were drunk and clumsy -- one woman fell down 4 times. They were obnoxiously self-centered and interfered with everyone else's enjoyment of the fine music. There was an incredible drum solo during "Sing Sing Sing" that these oafish dancers didn't even seem to notice.

Great food.

By Ouzofriends |

We were staying nearby and this restaurant was recommended by the hotel. The bar was quiet but had a nice atmosphere. The food was good and not too expensive. They had a selection of specials on the menu which were great value. Be sure to have the guacamole, it's prepared at your table and you can choose how spicy you want it, it was totally fresh ans delicious.

Pre Theatre dinner

By Ed Robson |

we ate here one night in December, opting for their theatre special, which was really good and the service was quick.

This Mexican Restaurant is definitely not a reptile. Iguana on 54th in New York City

By NancyL285 |

The is a wonderful, moderately priced Mexican Restaurant located on West 54th Street in the heart of the theater district, New York City. The food and drinks are fantastic. The ambience is cozy, yet alive. Music starts around 7:00 with a trio serenading different tables. The food is really delicious, as well as the guacamole and chips which is prepared right at your table.

Good late night eats!

By BayS |

This was our first visit to Iguana. I was a bit worried about the time (after 9pm) and receiving old tasting food from the day. However, we were impressed with the crab cakes, calamari and chicken fajita we ordered. The waitress was sweet and attended to us timely. The drink I had was a bit strong so I could barely get through it. But overall, it was a nice visit.

Good family dinner

By PTycz |

Came here because was close proximity to hotel, across the street. Decorated nice for the holidays. Food and service was good.

Excellent grilled filet Mignon, grilled salmon, soups, big variety of drinks. Loved the live Mariachi music.

Very good food, service, but pricey

By geckoman68 |

I tried this because it was close to our hotel. The food was very good, but a bit pricey. I had the vegetable fajitas and the avocado fries as an appetizer. The staff is friendly and offers suggestions if you have questions. Everything was flavorful, and the salsa and chips they bring to the table has a real kick to it. We saw another table having guacamole made right at the table, but opted not to do it because of the price.

Just don’t go!

By MeyNun |

Should have listened to the other reviewers; I guess you think I’m not picky I’m sure it’s fine. Well it’s not HORRIBLE would be the word to describe it. We ordered steak fajita which should have been well done (was tough and chewy) and enchiladas which also had chewy questionable meat. The worst part is these things happen but what shouldn’t is when the chef comes out and argues with you and tells you it’s fine after the server watches you trying to cut your meat and even realizes you can’t. The server was nice that was about it. Seriously stay away there’s a ton of places here in the area

Worst service ever!

By MnMFanatic |

We went there after a concert in Radio City. Made reservations for 10 people. We were all women. We all ordered drinks first. Some drinks ended up missing. Then the guacamole was made with one tiny Haas avocado. Not even enough for one! Service was terrible! Wisim was our waiter and did so many awful things! To start, no one told us we couldn’t all pay with credit cards! Had to constantly ask for water, took a menu that had one of our cell phones on it and threw the phone across the table! When we ordered the check, we all gave our credit cards and he gave it back saying he couldn’t take all those credit cards! Worst part tip was already included and we couldn’t take it off! We wanted to go upstairs dancing and were told that because we had dinner reservations there would be no charge for the cover charge. The girl at the door upstairs was sooo rude also! Insisted that there was a cover and we all had to pay! CASH! No ATM or options for us after what had transpired downstairs! The only good thing to say was that the Passion fruit Margarita was amazing but we had to wait because they had missed our drinks!

Good food, weird service

By twiglet |

This was our first meal in NYC as it was conveniently across the street from our hotel. The place was empty at about 8pm, and I don't think anyone else walked in the entire time were were there. The waiter was kinda creepy - he didn't say or do anything bad. He just kind of stared? Like he was surprised to see us. I don't know, it was unnerving. The food was actually very good and did not seem bad value for New York.

Sock Hop Party!

By rebecca_parson |

I came here with my friend for the sock hop party and ended up having dinner here. Food was delicious, and the party was awesome! It got a little bit crowded at some point but there's definitely enough room to move around. The lady at the coat check was a bit rude but I don't blame her - who doesn't have a bad day once in a while?

Great Mexican food

By Paul T |

Our hotel was just down the road so we called in an evening meal. The place was very lively and full of diners and people drinkers. There was a Mexican band playing traditional music upstairs. Their menu was quite extensive and well lade out. I had the Steak Fajitas and my wife had the enchiladas, both were delicious and flavoursome and perfectly cooked to our liking. We where too full to have desert so just had a espresso to finish. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the price was very reasonable.

Love this spot

By Lovestoseetheworld1 |

Omg this place is amazing! We went for dinner and were treated to lovely mariachi playing by our table. After dinner we headed upstairs for drinking and dancing. Felt safe the entire time. A lot of Spanish music but they also but other types.

Disrespectful and racist!!

By Erica D |

My boyfriend and I have been coming here for a few years now. Last Saturday was his birthday and we decided to bring his friends with us to celebrate. Mind you, we have always questioned the dress code because we have seen people walk in with sweats, sneakers, sandals, etc but we always dressed up. Seeing this, we brought his friends who were wearing sneakers. Two of them were let in by the two bouncers (they happened to have bright red sneakers and black, oh and they were white makes). The last and only friend who they denied in was a black male and wearing gray sneakers. We asked the bouncers why and they said talk to the manager. I was upset and asked the manager why? He couldnt even look me in the eye and didn't say a word to me. I explained that twi guys were let in with sneakers from our group but they won't let the other in. It's unfair treatment and i believe they are racist since this individual is black. While i was outside i noticed they let a guy in with maroon vans, black jordans and two guys came out with grayish green sneakers. The manager goes inside to escort our other two friends with sneakers out who they already let in. The bigger bouncer pointed at me and said to my boyfriend, "because she opened her mouth you guys are not allowed in." I was standing right in front of the bouncer who disrespected me by indirectly speaking to me, probably because I am a female. The next day we called and spoke to the same manager who then refused to give us the owners name and was very rude. He also could. It give us a reason as to why he left two of our friends in with sneakers but not the third. He responded with "call back tomorrow to speak with the owner but would not give a name. I have lost all respect for this place and advise everyone to stay away. This is not the first review that has spoken badly about the bouncers and even the unprofessional manager. They have lost my business and I hope yours too after reading this!!!!!!!

Excellent chicken fajita

By packedandready2go |

Both the chicken fajita and the house salad with chicken were excellent. The service was good and the decor was nice. Like most NYC restaurants it was a bit overpriced but I will return nonetheless.

Great place to dine

By SouthwoodTruck |

Went here with business partners. Great drinks, margaritas I mean, caipirinha is not my choice. Anyway the place has an amazing vibe. Is decorated quite cool. Food was amazing. Don’t forget to get fresh guacamole made at side table. I would go here again.

Guacamole

By Kathy S |

Chose this restaurant because we were right around the corner and looking for something different. We were there for a 3:30 late lunch/early dinner. We were almost alone in the restaurant. The guacamole was made fresh at our table and was so good! The rest of our meal was excellent. Prices were good too.

Skip it.

By 344brittany |

Food was not good. Coconut shrimp was over cooked and the chicken nachos tasted like crockpot chicken. Waiter was rude and very slow service. Do not recommend there’s plenty of other restaurants in that area to try.

Ok food and service

By Steven E |

Food was decent but lacked flavour and also spice. Service was ok but we didn't feel it was as friendly as it had been in other restaurants.

Ridiculous experience

By Lexi C |

Incident #1: Service was slow, but being a server myself I understand these things under circumstances. We needed the bill split two ways and the server said that was not possible. We only had credit cards. We asked the manager if it was possible to split tabs and he told us yes and to just let our server know, I replied that we did already so he went to find our server. Another server named Carlos fixed our checks and split them for us. Incident #2: After dinner we went upstairs to the club area while another friend was in the restroom in the middle floor. We got our drinks upstairs and I came back downstairs to grab my friend. When we came back up the bouncer stopped me and told me I needed to give them my jacket for $3 but I did not have cash and rudely told me there was an ATM next door. They did not tell me this 5 mins before and I already had a drink waiting for me that I paid for at the bar. So instead of wasting my time to go next door to an ATM, I had to sneak past the bouncer just to finish my drink so I could leave.

The fabulous Vince Giordano’s Night Hawks

By Queenpeafrog |

Another guest in our hotel recommended this venue 8pm on Monday and Tuesday evenings for the 1920s/30s jazz band. The band has played on shows such as Boardwalk Empire and we were great fan of the series set in the early 20th century. We are so glad we went along. You have to climb up to the 3rd floor and pay $20 per person for the band plus spend a minimum of I think another $20. A bottle of wine is around $40 and cocktails £20. Very strong ones! Anyway, it’s good value because the music is out of this world. Vince works the room in the break and talks to everyone. I watched Mrs Maisel series 2 today and blow me down if Vince didn’t pop up in the final episode playing the piano. If you like music you’ll be sure to love this place. I overheard him saying to someone that he doesn’t do this live gig for the money and it certainly seemed that he and the band were having a lot of fun. This has been the highlight of our first trip to NYC. We didn’t eat any food there. Actually I didn’t see anyone eating. Maybe they ate in the restaurant downstairs before going up 🌵

Great food nice atmosphere

By Jalolu |

Very good food ( both of us had steak fajita's) / Staff was friendly and attentive. Food came to us and hot and the portions were enough .

Avoid

By kirlouayl |

Avoid . Drinks ok I had a cocktail prob if going here for just drinks , dancing and atmosphere then ok if food not your priority but we went for a meal and it was awful , cold and just a sloppy mess so bad my husband couldn’t eat it . Found some bones in which could have been a chocking hazard when told waiter he just shrugged and was rude so we just paid for our food which we shouldn’t have done complete waist of money but did not pay service charge. As we were leaving another guy came up to us and asked why so we told him and he apologised

Good Spot!

By Stemsgalore |

Drinks and appetizers were great, my husband and I weren't staying long so this was all we tried at the moment. Good crowd and awesome decor/ambiance. Would come again.

Weekend Getaway

By JDA93 |

Not sure I got what I ordered, but it was delicious anyway. Service was a little slow, but we did have a large party.

Great Food, Great Atmosphere & Great Service

By AdvisingTripperNYC |

We have been to Iguanas Restaurant numerous times. I must say they have great food, exceptional service and an excellent staff. They have over 27 frozen margarita options. Andres the manager is one of a kind and I can assure you theres nowhere else you'd have a better time than Iguanas. Whether its to celebrate a birthday, go out to dinner with your significant other, dinner with friends/couple or simply just strolling along the neighborhood to maybe dance, this is your place. Darryl and his security team down excellent job at keeping the place secure.

Ruin

By carladc72 |

We make a reservation, but the restaurant is in ruins! Anything! Go your way! It's not serious! The exterior is in ruins!

Great Service!

By nicten72 |

The food was great! I didn't find out until the next day that I had left my purse. No Biggie! They had it at the hostess desk for me the next day! Wonderful, kind staff!!!

Good Ambience , Decent Food

By madhav24 |

One of the long surviving bars / club/ restaurants in Midtown Manhattan . We were seated in the downstairs restaurant area but could still hear the music from the club upstairs and it was quite noisy but cheerful . The food portions are fairly large , but a bit bland and need spicing up . Coconut shrimps were basically deep fried and did not have much of a unique flavour and the calamari starter was disappointing . Guacamole is interesting as are the loaded tacos .Quesadilla are recommended. The grilled salmon was good, but the accompanying brown rice was undercooked. For dessert try the delicately flavoured caramel coconut flan . Pricing is on the higher side .

Close to Hotel - Not Close to Tex Mex!

By Melissa P |

Okay, I've got to admit, we are spoiled to Tex Mex and this is not it! The food was good, but I would not go back. Nice atmosphere - a bit pricey.

Loved the meal and staff

By David F |

Was stopping at the Mariot opposite and love the meals here we had 3 different dishes all great and hot and very tasty . Lovely staff too

Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks make restaurant a venue not to be missed!

By PattiGiraffe |

On Monday and Tuesday evenings Iguana has fabulous music upstairs. Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks play music of the 30's & 40's with a full 13 piece orchestra. You can even dance if you like. You can have dinner or just go for drinks and "munchies" (which are terrific). We have gone several times and enjoyed ourselves so very much. Vince Giordano has an amazing stage presence and he and the orchestra bring this wonderful music to life again. A not to be missed place to go in NYC.

Go to spot for margaritas & Mexican food

By SkateGirl314 |

Great spot for dinner or getting drinks and appetizers. They have 29 flavors of margaritas and countless other drinks. Table side guacamole is a must get!

Lively Dance floor Downstairs

By ILuv2Mingle |

I had a great time dancing on the lower level. If you're looking for authentic mexican food, dont go here (as its very americanized). I found it overpriced as well as the margarita's that were weak.

good nachos

Good nachos great location too bad when we went in they didnt have their liquor licence service was great food good

A Mexicans delight

By fentilena |

Lovely Mexican restaurant really lovely staff. We both had tortilla and was delicious and really light. Water was always topped up. If you love Mexican food this will not let you down

Great

By Claire W |

Great food ,fun atmosphere ,lovely decor ,good prices and live music. A great end to our trip to NYC and it didn't break the bank either.

Good celebration locations

By BobxxxxCindy |

We wandered in after dinner. BNP Bank was holding their huge Xmas party . The bar was wall to wall people drinking tequila. The waitstaff was up to it and the drinks were served up continuously. The bank staff seemed to like vodka shots and they were flowing.

Good Mexican food far north of the border

By SusanK0628 |

Living in the Southwest, finding good Mexican food is almost as easy as walking out your front door. And, while Manhattan is a mecca for food from around the world, I did not expect to find a taste of home just across the street from my hotel, the Marriott Courtyard, Broadway, in the heart of Midtown. I got out of a taxi at lunchtime, starving, and just walked in. Good sized lunch crowd but not overwhelming. Extensive menu. I had the lunch combo of enchiladas, black bean soup, and the usual accompaniments, plus excellent chips and salsa. It was delicious and the price was extremely reasonable for New York City. Service was quick and efficient, but I never felt rushed. This place looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but it is very spacious inside. I felt right at home, and, after two very stressful weeks in New York, that was just what I needed.

Feel like you are in a 1930's movie on Monday and Tuesday nights

By Karen R |

I went to hear Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks on a Monday night and they were great!! The jazz takes you right back in time to the 1920's or 30's and the band is just excellent!! We had a great time!!!

Quiet meals are not likely.

By Jackie B |

This is a mexican restaurant and, wanting an after theatre meal, we tried this one as it was close to the hotel. We happened to be there when a large party was being entertained by a mexican band, complete with trumpets, maraccas and lots of singing. Even the waitress couldn't hear our orders and I would guess she was used to it. The food was goodish, the atmosphere mexican, the prices as you would expect just off Broadway.

Excellent food and drinks, super ambiance

By Johanna P |

When I visited New York lately I discovered the Iguana restaurant. Excellent Mexican food. The Margaritas are amazing and their delicious guacamole is made by the table. We had always a great time.

Good food but slow service (still)

By Traveller |

My wife, son, daughter and I ate dinner here in May 2019. We ordered the prix fixe dinner for $28 each. I had the black bean soup, vegetarian enchiladas and fried ice cream. The food was very good. My wife, son and daugher enjoyed their food as well. The only criticism is that the service could be a little faster.

Great for drinks

By GrandeSanJuan |

Did not go for dinner. Went for drinks and music. The night started slow but the place was packed by midnight. The disc jockey was ok. It is latin music and I would say for a younger crowd than my age group. The drinks are good.

Great time with excellent service

By Hollie T |

We had an awesome time. The drinks were really good, and the food, though a bit pricey (probably due to the area), was also good. The service was amazing, with Oscar being super nice and attentive.

WOW! Great place, great Tex mex Food

By Karl C |

Our party of three had a final tab of $114.32 inc tax plus tip. We were out the door for $137.32. We enjoyed a Quesadillas Steak ap, a Chicken Caesar Salad entree, and Avocado Rellino with Shrimp entree. We also had the fresh guacamole, which was made table side and was FANTASTIC. Every dish was tasty, especially the Avocado Rellino and Chicken Caesar. We had two Skinny Girl Cosmo's ($14 each) and an Iguana Magarita( $14) and one Diet Coke. The service was very good. We recommend Iguana New York.

Best cocktails

By Angele65 |

My daughter and I visited here a couple of times during our visit to NYC. The waiter that looked after us gave me the best Margaritas ever and the best Cosmopolitans ever too. Whilst drinking we were given complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. They were good but the cocktails 🍸 were something else. The evenings here were buzzing and lovely to be surrounded by locals. Highly recommend. BTW this was a perfect location for us as were at the hotel opposite

Beautiful Latin Bar & restaurant

By Sherif963 |

Wonderful food and Latin dancing night, nothing like Latin music and exotic Latin dancing! Recommended for Latin loving food and music with band

For dancing, was awful. Cost

By spinje01 |

For dancing, was awful. Cost $15 entrance a person, and they made us pay to check our coats even though the place was completely empty. rude bouncer and rude bartender. Bartender took selfies for ten minutes before asking us what we wanted to drink. The drink list has no drink prices, and when we did order, the bill was way super high. (9$ Coronas, $14 mixed drink) Downstairs emptyyyy until 1:30am. Gross, run-down. We tried to give it a shot since we paid a ton to get in- but no. Save your money and don’t go.

So overrated

By Escape820399 |

Overrated, food was tasteless. A sorry attempt at Mexican food. Convenient to theater but don’t bother.

Pre Show dinnet

By Sunita N |

Nice location. Attentive service. Passable food. Good margaritas. Skip the lemonade($5/glass). Tacos al carbon were good. Appetizer size was small.

Yummmmm

By Karliesjz |

This place was great. Sangria margarita was delicious, excellent table side guacamole. Can’t wait to go back.

Great food

By nikblaarr |

The food was awesome! I got the calamari and a crab & avocado salad. Both were great choices and filling. The wait staff was great too. I'd definitely recommend this place for lunch

Just OK, Won't Go Back

By Davidfromllinois |

My wife and I along with another couple dined on Cinco De Mayo...surprisingly we were able to get a table early evening...however, the wait staff seemed in a hurry to usher us in and out...while I turned my head, one of the waiter's grabbed my drink before I was finished...and then referred to my wife as "momma" when taking our order...quite unprofessional!...after we were nearly finished with the meal, another waiter almost took my wife's plate before she was finished...it was if we had to have both hands on glasses/plates or they whisked away...don't know if this is typical or just anticipated a busy night and needed our table...but certainly not relaxing...the food was OK...nothing special and I wouldn't classify it as truly Mexican...more Tex-Mex...and the price might be typical for NYC but seemed rather expensive for the amount of food we received...I don't think I'd go back again if in NYC....maybe it was just a bad night but that's my opinion.

Regular TexMex with Good Drinks

By Chris W |

The food is exactly what you would expect for TexMex. Its nothing better or worse than anywhere else you would go. They do have an awesome selection of margaritas at the bar.

Authentic Mexican food

By imtigg2 |

Quaint restaurant on 54th street, NY,NY. Food was good. Chicken Burritos were tasty. I would order them again. Did not care for the queso. Taquitos were spicy. Good appetizers. Service was slow considering it was not busy.

Not what it was

By Dan M |

I have really enjoyed this restaurant several times but last night was not enjoyable. Our waitress could have cared less that we were there. She really ignored us, visiting with friends or something at another table. We sat with dirty dishes for a very long time. Someone noticed and someone else came over to clean the table. Later she walked by and put the check down without even asking if we wanted anything else. The food was very good as always, but the service was sad.

Nothing special

By MitchT666 |

5 of us came here for dinner as it was across the road from our hotel. A good menu to choose from, but the quality of the food is average at best. We ordered only 2 starters between us, including one beef nachos to share. Not a lot of beef in the nachos. The worst part however was the fact that the waiters brought our mains while we were still eating the starters. We asked them to take the dishes back and bring them after we finish the starters, which they did after a short debate. When the mains came back, my tuna steak was cold, meaning I had to send it back again to be heated up. Not a good overall experience.

One of the very best restaurants in NYC

By AntSteve |

We were in NYC in very early June. Iguana was across the street from our hotel. This incredible place became our daily lunch (and sometimes dinner) location. When I think about the perfect restaurant, I consider location, seating, food quality, drinks and of course, service. This place meets or exceeds our expectations in all respects We did dine at other restaurants, but frequently thought back to our most recent meal at Iguana. Obviously, the menu is focused on Mexican, but if that interests you, this is a place you won't want to miss. The staff are incredible and the plethora of drinks is difficult to match. We will be back in NYC for more helpings of Opera, Broadway and Carnegie Hall. Iguana will continue to be our dining headquarters.

After conference dinner with friends

By TheThirdBert |

After a long day at a conference in Midtown Manhattan, six of us went out looking for a good dinner within walking distance of the Hilton Midtown. Because we were in New York City on business, price point was a consideration as well. As we were leaving, we asked a hotel employee for some recommendations. He listed several places, with Iguana being the closest. Because we were hungry, we opted for close by. Spoiler alert: Iguana was awesome. Anyone who travels and frequents restaurants on business trips will tell you how much of a pain it is to get your bill divided multiple ways. In our case, we needed six SEPARATE checks. At first, it looked as though they wouldn’t be able to accommodate us, but after one of our party chatted in Spanish with our server Antonio, he said that we’d be good to go. First came chips and green salsa, which was quite good. We all ordered different dishes, and I don’t remember everything that was ordered, but everyone in the group was really happy with their choices. I got the plate of beef nachos and a Dos Equis Lager. The nacho plate was enormous, and delicious. Plenty of beef, beans, chips, and trimmings such as guacamole, pico de gallo, jalapeño peppers, and sour cream. I skipped dessert, but two of my comrades got the fried ice cream and they raved about it. There was also a coconut flan that I had to fight urges to order... The service was just good, as the place was moderately busy. I imagine that at slower times (if there is such a thing in New York City) service might be excellent. The decor was really nice as well. But, the real icing on the proverbial cake was the mariachi band that moved about the establishment and played for patrons. I was anticipating spending 55 or 60 dollars. My share of the check was $30, which was awesome given that I got a beer, and Times Square was only a couple of blocks away. I highly recommend Iguana!

Happy hour!

By Angela Holtz |

Good happy hour prices on drinks! We decided not to pay for hotel prices for wine and come here...good drinks and services.

Horrific food

By Amy P |

We entered to a beautiful restaurant with a smell of garlic and ended up eating something completely different to how we expected. Prison food. Do not waste time, effort or money.

Lively Mexican Restaurant

By love2travelky |

The Iguana is close to Times Sq. and is a restaurant/dance club. The entrance level is the restaurant that had a live mariachi band the night that we were there. On the top and lower level there is a dance floor. There is a cover charge for the upper level dance floor. I'm not sure about the one on the lower level. We had good service at the restaurant. They will prepare fresh guacamole table side. The salsa was very good. They have a wide selection of mojitos and margaritas. I ordered a blueberry mojito. I thought it was ok. I would like to see fresh blueberries instead of blueberry syrup. The margaritas were in smaller glasses. I thought the drinks were expensive based on the quality and the quantity. My table ordered fajitas, quesadillas, salmon and burritos. There was a lot of food however I thought the quality was just ok. We ordered a sampling of desserts. They were all nice size desserts however, I thought the quality was lacking again. The chocolate mousse was probably the best. I was disappointed in the bananas iguana. It was cold and mushy. My recommendation is to pass on dessert.

Popular, good for groups

By rdchance |

I wanted to like the place, but ultimately think it's better for large groups of drinkers that appreciate strong drinks over good, big portions over tasty. At busy times the sound level is overwhelming. I understand it's popular for dancing.

Great Food, Atmosphere and Service

By SBCB2013 |

Iguana is across the street from the Courtyard Marriott on 54th Street in Manhattan. It was raining and we wanted to go to a restaurant close to our hotel. What a great find! The Tex Mex food was amazingly good and the fresh Guacamole was made right at our table. It was the best guacamole my husband and I had ever had. The dinner menu was extensive and the food was beautifully presented. The service was excellent as well. We would love to go back the next time we are in Manhattan.

Dancing

By Sunset92 |

A group of us went with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We did not dine there. We went for the Latin dancing. We had a very good time dancing to merenge, salsa and bachata.

Just fine

By Svanhvít S |

We chose this place for its location since we were going to the theater next door. The food was pretty good and the service was good. It is reasonably priced too. The place is really loud, it was a bit difficult to have a conversation there. The cocktails were nothing special.

Be sure to drop in

By Nancy M |

We visited Iguana twice during our trip. First was just for drinks. The very friendly bartender made delicious Sangria from scratch and we were so impressed that we returned the next Sunday for brunch. The weekend brunch menu has quite a few selections and the reasonable price includes Mimosas! Both of our selections were served promptly and were scrumptious. Iguana certainly has a Mexican vibe to it. There is a small area at the front for outside ding and a club downstairs for evening dancing Both of our meals were d

Good Food, Great Service

By luv2cruiz |

We were a little apprehensive about eating at this restaurant as there is a dance club on the premises. We were looking for a meal where we could sit and talk. The Iguana didn't disappoint. We had a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere where we had time to catch up with friends. We will be back.

I went here a few years ago for my birthday with friends. So, when a friend planned to have her bday here I was excited. Disappointingly, our service was incredibly slow and main server was rude. We ordered guacamole, which its made fresh in front of you. After receiving the fresh guacamole, we had to wait 20 minutes and ask several times for chips to go with it. And, when the server brought out the chips finally, she slammed one of the containers right onto my plate. Literally, she put the bottom of the chips onto the plate I was eating off of. Seriously? Then, we had to ask 5 times (and 3 different staffers) for cups of water during our meal and STILL did not get it by the time we go our check. This is after ordering food and pitchers of margarita, so of course we were thirsty. Also, the server brought out the dessert without singing the birthday song - we asked her multiple times to have the birthday song sung by the mariachi band (as it had been done for tons of tables around us) and it was obvious it was someone's birthday because we had balloons and a birthday sash on the birthday girl. Rather than saying "Sorry, I forgot, I'll fix it," the server said with a nasty attitude "You didn't tell me it was her birthday," grabbed the cake off the table, and came back with the band 10 or so minutes later. We tried to keep it cool despite this awful service all night, but we were enraged to find a 20% gratuity automatically added to our bill because we had a large group. This tip was definitely not earned. And, when we asked to speak to a manager, the tip was removed but a manager never came over and spoke to us or anything. Would not return - there are so many Mexican food options in the area with better service and prices that this is an easy PLACE TO AVOID.

They will serve you drinks but food is not the priority

Our whole family had cold food. We could see them laying the alcohol on other families. If you want decent food just forget it. Our food was cold. We NEVER saw our waiter after after we ordered. The girl who picks up dishes provides all the service. So... if you want to get drunk this is your place. If you want a hot dinner go elsewhere.

BEAUTIFUL AT CHRISTMAS!

This restaurant was across the street from our hotel and it didn't disappoint. The place is magical during then holidays. Its not really true Mexican food but fresh and delicious none-the-less. The owner and staff are friendly and sweet. I can't imagine it during the non-season but I'm sure it looks cozy then as well. They have a latin dance bar W - Sa, but unfortunately by the time we found out it was too late before heading home.

Expensive and small portions

We stopped for drinks and apps at the bar. Bartender friendly and provided suggestions but drinks and apps are small for the price. Holidays lights were pretty. Good for a one time visit.

Good dinner ruined

Although the food was good, the competing VERY loud music between the restaurant, its own bar and the upstairs club was unbearable! When I suggested they might turn off the restaurant music and just leave the club - which after all is about the music - it became apparent that was never going to happen - crazy situation. Ruined what could h e been a nice dinner.

Just OK

Stopped for pre matinee drinks then dinner after. Martini actually seemed waterdowned. Hoping it was just me because for a tini and 1 glass of wine which was a decent size pour...almost 30 bucks!? Yes theatre district but bump up the friendliness! Gave it another try after the show for an early dinner. Food average. service better, guac very good.

Avoid the Avocado Fries...

Last drink of the night before heading to the hotel and oh dear.... Lovely security that is my positive. Poor drinks service, the worst thing I put in my mouth was their avocafo fries....vile. Cocktails also very average. Go next door the 3 monkeys is far better.

Not spectacular

Visited Iguana during our girls weekend in NYC. We weren’t blown away by the staff or the food. Our server didn’t seem particularly interested in waiting on us and our food was lackluster. Even the margaritas were a bit of a disappointment. Portions were huge but we didn’t love the food enough to even bother wrapping up the leftovers to take back to the hotel. Meh.

The amtosphere in this place was amazing, totally buzzing! My hubby and I dined here after a theatre trip and tucked into the post theatre menu which was great value. Both opted for taquitos to start- great, then he went for the burrito and I the enchildas- again both great. Rounded off with the fried ice cream which wasn't to our tastes but that's obviously nobodies fault. Only negative I can give this place is the service was slow in regards to getting your drinks but that is probably attributable to it being a busy Saturday night. Well worth a visit if like us after 2 weeks you are sick of fries with every meal!
