The best of New York Italian fare

Great neighborhood spot. Their chicken parm and eggplant parm are unbeatable. Made with TLC and has an extra special crisp on the chicken that I have not found elsewhere.

I Wish the Food Tasted Better

Went to Il Monello for a birthday lunch with an old friend. The greeting and service were welcoming and professional, I loved the old school white tablecloth ambiance. However, we both felt the food was mediocre and unmemorable. My veal chop was large, but it had little taste. My friend’s pasta he labeled bland. We had a great time, but that’s because old friends always do no matter our age.

Deluxe and Delicious

Nestled on a quiet street near the United Nations building, Il Monello welcomes diners with a luxurious ambiance: heavy starched linens, touch assisted table lighting, substantial flatware, leather upholstery, elegant plates and glassware. The furnishings and low lighting contributed to a quiet atmosphere. The menu ranges from Italian-American standards such as Caesar Salad and Chicken Parmesan to more innovative dishes like the potato crusted seabass. Fresh, high quality ingredients are present everywhere. The fish and seafood were outstanding. All of the staff was professional, solicitous and welcoming. Dinner for two with appetizers, entrees, shared dessert and wine was about $200.00. We felt pampered and enjoyed being in an elevated neighborhood spot. The walk back to our midtown hotel helped us imagine life in Turtle Bay.

Delightful Italian food with wonderful service.

Absolutely yummy food with impeccable service. Our local host goes frequently to this Italian restaurant and after our wonderful meal there I can see why. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The portions were so large that an appetizer version of eggplant with a salad was a plentiful meal.

So good! Pleasant surprise.

My husband and I ate here last night at the spur of the moment as we were in the neighborhood. I liked how the restaurant looked from the street and looked it up to find great reviews. The Service, food and ambiance were excellent. It was kind of late and they gave us a nice private table in the corner which we really appreciated. We had the burrata special, the veal chop parmigiana and the branzino. Finished off with the chocolate mousse and tartufo. We will definitely be back!!

The best rest during our trip in the US

Excellent dishes and amazing service. We came across this restaurant by complete accident, and it ended up being the best place we have eaten during our three week trip around the US.

Good Italian food and service, nice decor. A solid East side option.

We had a Christmas luncheon here. Nice Italian food. A reasonably expensive white tablecloth restaurant with Italian staff. A very California based wine list. Overall a good experience. Located on 49th St. between 1st and 2nd ave.
