This restaurant is raved about so much, I was half expecting to be disappointed, but it lives up to its hype. The small dishes the wait staff brought to the table were absolutely delicious, as was every single thing we ordered. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly. Despite the food being so delicious, there were two things that were a little bit unpleasant: first, it was so cramped that it was almost impossible to navigate my way to the bathroom. Second, they didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert--they just brought the check after clearing our dinner plates. I had them take the check back and add a tiramisu, which we took to go.

Visited Il Mulino with work colleagues for a Christmas lunch. It was like walking into the 1970s - in a good way. Really classic restaurant with a real focus on traditional service. We had a big group and the second we sat down they brought out antipasti - which to be honest involved so much good that we then were really that hungry for the main meal. However we did order a variety of dishes and they were all excellent. Really enjoyed the whole experience. The food is rich and heavy and if you don't like garlic this isn't the place for you. For the rest of us though it is a great find!

Just south of Central Park and it appeared that many locals were there. Tourists stood out like a sore thumb just by the way they dressed. ( Including Me!) The food was excellent and for the most part, service was very good with a few lapses. I would recommend it very highly and will go back the next time Im in NYC

Food was delightful from the beginning with numerous servers bringing focaccia, other slices of bread, anti-pastas, and sauces...almost wasn't hungry after the beginning but persevered through a stuffed veal chop which was tasty after grilled octopus app. The wine was delightful, an Amarone after a fine chardonnay over the appetizers and starters. Pasta sides yummy...lots of food so be hungry when you visit

Our party of 6 was lucky enough to get a table on Saturday night. The restaurant is comfy small- but not tiny. I'd prefer the lighting to be a tad brighter so as not to use my iPhone flashlight to read a menu- but no big deal. Cocktails- wine - dinner-real Italian dishes you'd expect in NYC, all fabulous! I'll certainly return! Jennifer Lopez and her entourage was dining not too far away from us - perhaps that's why lighting was so dark.

We came here for our anniversary dinner on a visit to New York. Service was excellent and the food was brilliant. The menu had great choice and there were lots of specials. Only gripe was it is quite noisy and tables quite close together. But the atmosphere is amazing. We would definitely come back.

Third or 4th time here and LOVED it again! The service is genuinely great. You will fight to keep friends from stealing your truffle pasta. The way to do it is to turn it into a "tapas" place and get a few dishes to share. Fish on salt= perfect. Keep your eyes open also, you might stumble into some people you may recognize! Biggest piece of advice- do not eat here if you are not very hungry. Eat a little bit during the day before you go- BUT GO HUNGRY. "Where is Jay, where is Jay"? Uh I think he might be in the ladies room..."

there is this item tagiatelle con filetto di pomdoro sauce so simple but, perfectly cooked rectangular pasta with mairnara sauce. absolutely the best pasta dish in the area

Most memorable night of our NY vacation! Excellent service, food and ambiance. This is my favorite restaurant experience in NY City. Expensive, but quality is expensive! Our waiters Louie and Biaggio were outstanding! Thank you...we’ll be back!

Greenwich Village has always been a kind of casual, easygoing place to hang, and its restaurants reflect that. So to find this elegant, beautiful, masterpiece of Italian cooking smack dab in the center is a surprise and delight. "Old world" service and sensibility, new world dishes, ingredients, flavors. Almost before you are even seated, a waiter comes over with a round of parmesan cheese the size of a truck tire, and cuts off a beautiful chunk for the table, accompanied by artisan bread and breadsticks. After that, they bring out fantastic bruschetta. Now you're full and you haven't paid for anything yet lol. The food is incredible. Delicately fried artichoke and vegetable special antipasto, perfectly al dente pastas, delicate fresh branzino, amazing wines. A beautiful evening, perfect experience, finished with complimentary grappa. The only caveat, it is very expensive.

Wonderful old school Italian restaurant. Small cozy dining room with lots of tables. Many complimentary bites are offered before your meal, so pace yourself! Loved the shards of parmesan cheese and calamari. Our pasta was fresh and delicious. I shared an entree with another and it was the right call! Great atomsphere. Delicious meal!

The authentic approach has remained consistent and true Italian and therefore attracts the very best of customers. This is our second stop , and we recommend it yet again. Brochettes served with a generous portion of fresh tomatoes and your choice oven freshly baked bread just a perfect starter. Although , we requested the redo of a pasta dish ( pasta a little undercooked ) , the manner in which the waiters dealt with this truly confirmed the professional and top class nature of this restaurant. We will be back .

Il Mulino was an experience. From the time we arrived, food just started coming to our table. Everything was amazing, from fried zucchini shavings to garlic bread to pepperoni slices and cheese carved from a block at the table. And that was before the menus arrived! The service was classic captain and servers, and whenever we needed anything it arrived instantly. We got various pasta and fish dishes and everyone wanted to try each other's plates. Each dish was unique and well prepared. We were very full at the end, and the bill was lower than we would have expected for the quality of the food and the starters. Highly recommend.

Everything was amazing about this restaurant. The service, the pre- dinner food they bring you even before you look at a menu was wonderful. The service is top notch and the food was delicious. Will for sure be back here again.

I have visited this restaurant for 35 years and I do not live in New York. The food and service is consistently wonderful. Try the oranges for dessert and the homemade grappa.

The Food and service were very good, we had the Ossobuco and it was outstanding the atmosphere is nice, elegant but not too fancy and you feel you are in that Neiborhood

Classic restaurant with amazing food and fabulous waiters. We make sure to have dinner here every time we visit NY. George is our favorite waiter - you have to love his enthusiasm when he reads the specials. He's been there many years as have many of the waiters. The fresh cheese, bread, garlic bread and zucchini salad they give you even before you order is almost enough for a light meal so don't go crazy as the portions are huge! I just ordered the lamb chops and got 8 delicious chops! You will be stuffed! Restaurant also has a trattoria so make sure you're making the correct reservation.

Recently tried this restaurant at the suggestion of my brother in law while we were in town for Thanksgiving. I took the whole family and we had amazing meals with excellent and friendly customer service. Recommendations and specials were amazing including the stuffed shells and classic pasta dishes like the bolognese. Not inexpensive, but not obscenely over the top either. Best dining experience over the course of the week.

One of the best meals we have had in NYC .Food amazing. A treat in every respect. Service great. Better than we had expected. Will go back for sure.

Just a great neighborhood hot spot. Loved the bar area. It's a little crowded, but vibrant and fun. Greta food and wine.

We visit Las vegas and new York often and il mulino never disappoints. The pasta with arribiatta is the best and don't forget a cup of coffee afterwards. Staff is so friendly and always welcoming. We can't wait to go back.

First off- YOU WILL NOT STARVE HERE. Second- The wait staff is legit and fun, take their recommendations. Third- whatever they recommend you eat, do it- BUT MAKE SURE you get the truffle pasta. Fourth- Have them wrap your leftovers and treat your Uber driver to a GREAT meal (unless your a local who can take leftovers home) ENJOY!!!!

This is like dining at California Pizza Kitchen but at prices which are multiples of their menu items and with pretentious waiters hiding behind the mystique of renting the “Il Mulino” brand to sell to tourists and locals with accents who may think it is good food because they charge $56 for chicken parm. Sorry, as a lifelong (middle aged!) New Yorker who was born and bred in the city, my favs for real northern Italian would be Elios (my fav), Pietros, Primola and others which serve amazing food. When friends ask me what my fav NYC restaurant is, I ask if they want to “eat” or “dine.” (FWIW, i actually like to “eat”!). This place is neither. The food is so overpriced and, more importantly, just mediocre at best. While I haven’t been to the original Il Mulino in the village in approx 29 years, I just can’t imagine they would bless this food and am surprised they would have their name on it. If for some crazy reason you want to brag to your friends [back home—wherever that may be] that you ate in the well-known Il Mulino in Miami, please save your money and go to so many other and better options where you will be happy after your meal.

Visited the venue last night as a few people mentioned it was pretty good..... and it was not! It is a very Italian/American restaurant where classic dishes are covered in unappetising sauces. We ordered pumpkin flowers that were served soaked in a horrible lemon sauce (instead of the crunchy texture one looks forward to) and the spaghetti vongole were so bad that were left pretty much untouched. Being Italian maybe my standards are too high but with so many great Italian restaurants in NYC I don’t see any reason to try this one.

The restaurant is crowded with a very high noise level. There was a plate of appetizer getting cold on our table as we were seated. Other appetizers followed as we got our coats off, slung on the table. We did not order them; we were not given choices. Despite our informing the restaurant that one diner has celiac disease and requires a gluten-free meal, the only gluten-free appetizer was a hunk of cheese. The waiter rattled off the specials but despite our having only a 4-top, we couldn't hear him. We had shrimp fra diavolo and spaghetti with clam sauce. Both dishes had overcooked dry and chewy seafood. The Fra Diavolo lacked any spice and the clam sauce had nary a clove of garlic. When it came time to leave, we were ignored and practically had to put on our coats and move to the door before we were given a check. For a celebratory and expensive dinner, the evening was a shambles. The staff is obviously very impressed with themselves, but shouldn't be. You can get better Italian food at any number of mom-and-pop trattorias in our home town.

When the waiter took our order (6 guests), he rattled off at lease a dozen specials without mentioning any prices. Assuming the prices were the same as the menu $40-$60 per entre, we picked the rack of lamb. When the check arrived, it was $140. The waiter offered no explanation other than "it used to be $90" which meant nothing to us. But for a dinner bill that exceeded $750 he did not even offer a single desert on the house, let me buy you a drink or a come back and we will take care of you. Instead his attitude was, "you must be a cheap guest" to question the bill. I live in NYC and will not return.

Great food. A New York staple. You have to come here because you have to. Dimly lit. Small. Quaint. The food was pretty good. Not rushing back, but, wouldn't be opposed to it. Oh. Service was fantastic.

Great old school italian spot in Greenwich village. Lots of Italians in dinner jackets and tuxedos serving you. Lots of little extras provided to the table as soon as you sit down. Reminds me of some itallian places my grandfather took me to in little Italy back in the 70's. Food is good, solid Italian. We both got pasta dishes and it was well seasoned and properly cooked. No cheap, and the waiters will definitely try to up sell you on the more expensive entrees. Very subduded lighting, and would be a good place for a date. Gets busy, but you can likely get a table with just a walk in later in the evening on a week night.

I love this place. You walk in hungry and before you can figure out what you want food is coming to your table. Food is very good quality. Have had all kinds of dishes from pasta to veal to lobster. Jovial atmosphere. You feel like you are at an Italian home.

Complimentary appetizers are all very good especially the garlic bread, but don’t fill up on them or you won’t be able to eat much of your dinner. If you don’t see it on the menu, just ask. They are very accommodating, especially George. Book early, hard to get a reservation at prime times even if you’ve been coming there for years.

My first visit to Il Mulino was a very nice surprise. Host and bartender were friendly and welcoming. Comfortable and calm restaurant even though it was very busy. Food was excellent. Many daily specials but everything on the menu looked amazing. Good service and good food made for a perfect evening.

Very good food, unexpectedly large portions, and good service. Couple of things threw me - a 'daily specials' list that went on and on and on. One of their prix menus had no vegetarian option for the main course and they were not ready to make any accommodation to the vegetarian in our group. And their style of up-selling is more like the kind I associate with the touristy joints in Little Italy. But mostly minor negatives that won't stop me from going back. I had (excellent) salmon for the main course and I had enough left over for lunch the next day! Doggie bags seemed to be the order of the day at a number of tables.

The authentic approach has remained consistent and true Italian and therefore attracts the very best of customers. This is our second stop , and we recommend it yet again. Brochettes served with a generous portion of fresh tomatoes and your choice oven freshly baked bread is just a perfect starter. Although , we requested the redo of a pasta dish ( pasta a little undercooked ) , the manner in which the waiters dealt with this truly confirmed the professional and top class nature of this restaurant. We will be back .

This place packs an punch of deliciousness. Came here with a group of 7 on a Thursday night. The appetizers were pretty hearty. Some of the guests enjoyed meatballs and I heard they were delicious (I don't eat meat). The specials menu was pretty impressive and all memorized by heart by the maitre d. Every single bite was finger licking good. I personally had the cappellini with spicy marinara--so good. Ambiance was very dim candlelit and a small dining room.

My husband and I really don't understand where the reputation of this place comes from. It is nothing but overrated. We were there for dinner last week, and it was all a big disappointment from the minute we came in until we left. The service is lousy and arrogant (they never greeted us and barely responded to our questions, even though the restaurant was almost empty - only 3 tables with customers while we were there. The waiters kept a loud conversation among themselves all the time, barely looked at us or came to check on our table), and food is heavy and absurdly condimented (from the first appetizers they first brought until our main courses, everything had an incomprehensible excess of garlic and pepper.) Their premises are also precarious. As I crossed the kitchen area to go to the ladies room, I saw someone at the kitchen drinking water straight from a faucet without using a glass, it was gross. We had other options on our list but decided for this place, and we regret every part of our experience. It has fine-dining price, but I'm sure a lot of cheap eats would do much better that it.

So......here's the thing. It's a nice resto w excellent staff. The dining room could do w a refresh and the front entrance is a bit jumbled w wood wine boxes, a small bar and a food staging area - and way too many plaques announcing their awards. It's too much and not very pleasing. Dining room is nicely sized, buzz is good and staff works hard to be attentive. Top Rate Staff. Anything is on-offer at a price. That challenge is that the prices - particularly for the specials of the evening - are not quoted up-front. Fillet of Sole is outstanding, however at USD75 I would have liked to have known that when ordering. Bottles of water are poured generously - and too quickly - as fresh bottles magically appear. A side of rice becomes a half-portion of more costly risotto. The bill was close to USD400 w a few cocktails and a glass of wine - however two orders of Dover Sole. Felt high for what it was. Hmmmmm. Look, I travel globally and dine globally, in most major cities as well as on the Upper East Side. Il Mulino has been around for ages and to their credit, they must be doing something right to have so many restos in the NY Metro area. I guess I miss the care and attention to detail that others provide. Next time I'll go to one of those.

We enjoyed an amazing evening at this restaurant last week. We had two teenage girls with us – and they thoroughly enjoyed it too. Very small restaurant amazing old school atmosphere. The staff welcomed us with plates of starters and lots of love. Amazing food and top notch service!!! Our best meal in NYC. Thanks!!😊😊

The minute you walk into this restaurant you know it's special and different. The table as you enter is loaded with huge wheels of cheese and anti pasta. Our waiter had been at this restaurant for 40 years....our food was delectable, great wine selection. The tab is large is be prepared.

This was recommended by a friend and I am glad we listened. First off, they bring out so many free appetizers that we ended up splitting our salad, entree and dessert. Which helped out our budget for NYC. They bring out fresh Parmesan cheese, bread, bruschetta, roasted red pepper, salami, and probably something else that I can't remember. The service was incredible and we left feeling full but not miserable.

For over twenty years, our family has dined at Il Mulino for special occasions, and as noted, it never disappoints. But be sure to bring your appetite, as lunch or dinner always starts with wonderful antipasti such as fried zucchini, salami and Parmesan pieces. There are always many specials (frankly, it's hard to keep track of them), but the regular menu has a host of wonderful dishes too, such as mushroom ravioli and the veal parmesan. My favorite is the classic dessert of orange slices soaked in Grand Marnier - usually served with a small glass of grappa.

Could not have been better. As soon as you sit down, they bring you antipasti, including cheese, meat, bread, bruschetta, and zucchini. The caesar salad an black squid ink pasta with seafood were great appetizers. Highly recommend the slow-cooked branzino / sea bass entree, which they filet for you. The food is served by authentic Italian waiters who are knowledgeable and friendly.

We love it here at Il Mulino. WE eat the one downtown more often though the uptown one has its own special ambiance as well.Great dinner this past Saturday again at Il Mulino, on W4th. Right upon being seated you are carved off a nice chunk of fresh parmigiano cheese. Some nice grilled zucchini already on the label and then the bread and bruschetta is brought. All are wonderful and a nice way to start the meal. We had the calamari Fra diavolo sauce to start. My daughter had the spaghetti and clams while my wife and I enjoyed the Branzino. The fabulous waitstaff are just amazing and your every need is taken care of, The thing we like about Il Mullino a lot is while it has the aura of being 'stuffy' its is not. Though that takes nothing away from a fantastic dinner with staff who is knowledgeable about the food, ingredients and preparation of the meals. You even get a bit of free grappa at the end. It is a shame the original family owners sold out the biz. That is why you will see different variations of Il Mulino around the US now.... i.e. Il Mullino Prime, Trattoria Il Mulino. Thought this one on 3rd is our favorite still. Every now and then you will run into a celebrity, last time was Anderson Cooper.

We just had two desserts because we had dinner somewhere else. Spectacular. Better tiramisu than the Italian one. If you have time, stop. There is a smell of intoxicating food.

I hadn’t been to Il Mulino in few years, so when a friend who was visiting from out of town requested to go and I was happy to oblige. Eating at Il Mulino is a unique experience. The restaurant is cramped. Tables are tightly wedged together. It’s a sight to be cold watching the Tuxedo clad servers navigate the maze of tables. The service is old school, surly intolerance, yet extremely professional. Somehow you seem to overlook the staffs rudeness for the fact that they’re so effective and efficient. You’ll also have to come prepared to eat a lot of excellent, though incredibly rich and over the top Itlaian cuisine. The portions unlike the restaurant itself are gargantuan in size. There are many who still swear this is the best Italian restaurant in New York, and at times during your meal, you’re going to agree with them. However, there’s a price to pay and since my last visit it’s become even more ridiculously and over the top expensive. From the moment you sit down, a symphony of complimentary antipasti and bread baskets will appear before you. The bruschetta is delicious, as are the mushrooms, cured meats and fresh off the wheel Parmigiana. Beware of the fried zucchini - it’s laced with incredibly spicy dried Calabrian chili’s and will do a number on an unsuspecting palate. Between all of this and the delicious assortment of breads, you’re likely going to be full before your waiter arrives to read you the endless list of specials. Whatever you order you can’t go wrong. I personally love their porcini mushroom ravioli in a champagne cream sauce, the capellini with seafood in a light Fra Diavlo sauce with a touch of cream, the Scottish Langoustines simply prepared, the veal chop Valdostana stuffed with Fontina Cheese and Parma Ham and served smothered with wild mushrooms, the rack of lamb (perhaps the best in New York), the Osso Bucco and the off the menu whole red snapper, off the bone with mixed seafood and a mild red sauce and cooked in a voluminous aluminum foil tent, which comes to the table steaming. You won’t have room for dessert, but the waiter will describe something that will cause you to pause and you’ll order it anyway and live every bite of it. When the bill comes, you’ll now have a second use for the word gargantuan!

This is my third visit to Il Mulino. It never disappoints and always satisfies! The service is impeccable, the food....the beat. Recommend the lamb shanks, the fish, the pasta with truffles. Enjoy!

This was not just a great dinner, but an AMAZING overall experience. The service was impeccable. The food was so delicious. We were there for three hours and were having such a great time that time just flew by. The servers and bussers were so friendly and attentive. Great value for your money!

Yes, we were a tad oversold on food but we had a group of 11 with a lot of big eaters and they did not steer us wrong. Wine was exceptional thanks to our host -pasta was perfect (we got a sample pasta course for the table) - so many "freebies" that I was full before the meal started. The veal marsala was a bit heavy on the sauce -most of the mains were too heavy to the point I would rate 4.5 but everything else was A+. if I were not eating in a big group, i would have just gotten a pasta dish. I did love the free spicy zucchini appetizer - so good! Just tons of food and not sure I needed a hunk of parmesan cheese -come with an appetite. My only complain was the mains were a tad much.

you'll love this place! The food is delicious but very tight quarters especially with the awkwardly over abundance of staff moving in and out. Don't go if you have a party of 8 - they'll jam you into a round that only accommodates 6. Best advice is to only look at your food or the people you came with... DON"T look at the vintage acoustical panel drop ceiling or the weirdly small 'art' on the walls.

Fuhgettaboutit.....Best NYC Italian. Small and a bit cramped but that somehow just adds to the appeal. Easy to find good wines for much less than $100 and the food is absolutely dynamite. NOTE - this review is for the original on West 3rd. Their other installations (including Vegas) are just okay and, IMO, not worth it.

Not sure whats going on here. The service is abrupt ,very very abrupt and intrusive. The food? Not edible. The Veal Parmigiana had tons of cheese and even after shoving all of it off, the veal tasted like nothing. The Osso Buco apparently below average. The Piccata also mediocre. The fried bread??Some oily zucchini with garlic was thrown on the table,so oily those who tried it were revolted. Some garlic bread with cheese was also thrown on the table...Is that why the reviews of this place are good??This dinner was 600 dollars, what a waste of money .

AWESOME experience with great food, GREAT SERVICE and great ambience. Highly recommend! We will be back!!

Il Mulino has an upscale vibe to it with white table linens without feeling stuffy. We found our meal to be highly delightful especially the chicken parm. Lobster was good too. Servers were friendly, we got good wine recommendations. Italian food can be tricky for me, I'm super picky but the food here was well prepared and fresh. Good date spot if you want high end Italian food.

MY family so enjoyed our dinner on Saturday night. We had never been so it was an unexpected, special treat. We were seated and they brought delicious bruschetta and vegetables. We had pasta, ravioli, scallops, and calamari. In addition to my daughter falling madly in love with one of our waiters, we all fell in love with the food and the restaurant. Can't wait to go again!

I have been coming here for years and originally this was my favorite Italian restaurant in all of NYC.. key word WAS. I still love the porcini ravioli and truffle/champagne and the langostine, but it was better in the past. Service was so so and waited an while after they brought the pre apps and apps for dinner. Always a bit pricey but service was less than and food was average. In the last was always a 10 and now not so much. I went to the location they had in Atlantic City and food was the same and believe it or not the service was better. Hope it picks up again as this was my favorite in all of NYC for Italian.

Went here with clients and everyone loved the meal and the service. Taking away 1 star because the restaurant was a little cramped and noisy due to number of tables. Food and service offset any inconvenience.

Went with my son. Wonderful service with George and a superb meal. Pasta appetizer with light red sauce with sweet Italian sausage was perfect and the lamb should be commended for supplying great chops. Tiramisu along with grappa and limencello topped the evening off.

Attentive service, wonderful food! The Ricotta Cheesecake was unreal. Very thankful to my friend who insisted we stop in.

Our reservation which was supposedly made by the concierge of the Carlyle didn't exist, so this wasn't a good start! However the manager made an excellent recovery in short order and found us a nice table despite them being packed out. We were soon served with great garlic bread, bruschetta and salami and sipping a bottle of Gaia. Excellent ravioli starter and veal Marsala with wife loving her salt encrusted fish thing. Great zucchini fritter another bottle of Gaia and finally fantastic dessert. Staff are stand out excellent and combine professionalism with jollity, including engaging with our 10 year old daughter nicely. Nice manhattan crowd who were upscale but not irritating too cool types! It was very expensive but very good and on our MUST go list.

The one thing you must know is that this place is hopping! From the moment you arrive, white tie clad waiters scurry about bringing drinks, breads, appetizers that are so delicious to your table...it is a constant movement and cacophony of voices...we loved it! We enjoyed fettuccine Alfredo, langoustine with mushroom risotto, veal osso bucco, and a fabulous lemon sorbet for dessert. Everything about the place is awesome!

To enjoy a typical Italian dinner this is the place to go.The food is excellent. The service is also excellent. The ambiance lovely.

We have been to this restaurant at least 3 times when in NY. It is by far a favorite for numbers of reasons. The food and presentation is outstanding, the atmosphere is super as is the service. Truly a must when in NY.

When you leave a restaurant and the wonderful taste of the freshness of the food and warm feeling of hospitality and friendliness lingers you know you have experienced something special. That is this place which is one of the supreme dining experiences anywhere the world over.

Best service, food and friends. Ordered the Malfatties. my favorite. Antipasto and salads to start were fresh and wonderful. Definitely will go back!

This restaurant is fabulous--exactly what I think of when eating Italian in New York. It has the great feel of an old world, classic Italian restaurant but with elegance and incredible food. The wait staff is excellent and very much fit the upper east side neighborhood. It is the kind of restaurant that you want to dress up and make it a very special evening.

A good Italian restaurant with attentive service. While the food was good, we didn't feel that it had the fine touch that the high prices would indicate.

We were referred to this small gem while we were about to eat at another close by Italian eatery, so we decided to go there and check it out. It was a full house but the hostess was able to accommodate us rather quickly. The atmosphere and ambiance of this restaurant made you feel as if you were dining in Italy. The food was incredible, fresh and aromatic, staff and service was impeccable.

This was the best restaurant we dined at during our trip to New York City. Our waiter, Rudy, was fabulous - he was so attentive and engaging. He made our meal one of the best ever. The food was outstanding. From the bread to our last bite of dessert, we were in heaven. I would highly recommend the specials, if you can decide which one to get - we wanted they all.

Had a fabulous dinner at Il Mulino. George and the entire staff made us feel so welcome on a busy Saturday night! Atmosphere is old Italian with wine boxes and tuxedoed staff. Food is amazing! Black truffle and mushroom pasta a true stand out! Make sure to dine here

The food is always delicious here but the prices are out of hand. Over $600 for dinner for four which included two pastas shared, an entree each, two desserts and seven cocktails. No wonder expansion didn’t work. Who else would pay the exorbitant prices? The shrimp scampi wasn’t great but the Mishroom Ravioli was outstanding. The waiter was over the top and made us feel like tourists. He never came during our entree and we ordered one less drink as a result.

It's a wonderful place to come. It is an obligation to come here whenever you come to NYC. Wonderful food and wine. Everything is special here the atmosphere is really evolving.

It is a crowded place and after tasting the food you understand it is well worth it. Make sure you reserve in advance. We were 5 people and had a taste of meat, fish, pasta and risotto and I can truly say you can't do any better on any of the dishes. Great service.

First visit. Party of four. Although we had reservations we had 20-minute wait. We were probably the only "non regulars" that night. Everyone knew the maitre de, waiters, coat check lady, and bartender. Once seated service was good. Note "volume" is loud. We ordered cocktails and were immediately bombarded by a lot of free appetizers. In hindsight we ordered too much as most entrees were only half finished. The wine list is large and all(?) Italian. Pretty much on the high side. You'd be lucky to find a decent bottle under $100 (we spent $110). We split a large portion of fried calamari to start. Entrees were riga Bolognese, black pasta, fish special, and buca Amatria Surprisingly some entrees were only in the high $20s but the sea special commanded $50. Too stuffed for dessert or coffee. Overall food is good and you will have a memorable meal. Clearly "old school, red gravy, Italian". Damages with tip was $400.

The place is small and cozy .food very good and tasty.wine card very rich . Service very slow prices very high end of the scale

Have wanted to come here for years, but it is usually full and, because of the prices, the sort of place you go to for a special occasion. In this case a friend's birthday -- we hoped its normal clientele would be in the Hamptons for the Labor Day weekend. Relatively short wait after we arrived, though it was more cramped than we expected. Lots of pleasant gratis bready beginners, a bit fatty (which I like) and some interesting. The menu waiter was a like a zombie as he blankly recited the specials. Escargots were embedded in hollowed out mushrooms with a rich sauce: interesting, but not great (a bit chewy). Ordered the $72 steak rare. It was huge and rare, but bland and tough. I took some home and rewarmed it the next day. Much better. I decided my steak knives were better than theirs. Most of the flavor, though was in the spicy sides that came with it. I'm serious about my steaks, and perhaps I'd been spoiled by a similarly priced steak at the Red heifer in Jerusalem a few weeks before. But I've also done better at Smith and Wolensky and Sammy's in NYC. Others at the table thoroughly enjoyed their veal and ravioli. It was a busy night and the waiters showed it as they rushed round the room. Efficient, but it would have been better had they not looked so harassed.

We have been going to Il Mulino for over 25 years. Because we don't live in New York we only get to go every few years. Each time it reminds us that it is one of our very favorite restaurants literally in the world! Food and service is always over the top. The fact the place has not changed is one of the very great things about it. The restaurant is small so make sure you make reservations.

This small restaurant has some outstanding dishes, and does everything right from a variety of free appetizers to and after dinner Grappa. It's pricey, but if you are going there you probably know that. It would have received five stars as a restaurant had it not been for the manager I believe was the Captain there. When we made the reservation, we specifically asked for a round table, since we we hosting relatives from California we hadn't see in quite some time who were just passing through and wanted to talk with them. If they couldn't provide one, we would have booked elsewhere. When they called us to confirm the day before the dinner, we again confirmed we needed a round table. When we got there, they led us to a long table. The captain came over, and said there were no notes in the reservation for a round table, although he agreed that we took the reservation himself (my wife reminded him of a little joke he made during the call). Now all would have been fine, annoying but fine, if he had just said "I must have forgotten to make the entry" or "I'm sorry, but this was our mistake, but he don't have an available round table at this time" --- instead, he said not once but twice "If you had asked for a round table, the request would be there" - basically calling us liars! Postscript to this - the one really large table there was put together with a long table to seat a party of about twenty, that the Captain spent some time with. Leads to the question - was this really a mistake, or the Captain choosing to cancel one reservation in favor of a large one where he knew the party. No way to know, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck ... So if you are a small party that wants great food, or a large party that doesn't care about seating, I highly recommend Il Mulino. But if you do care about the seating - maybe another restaurant would be better.

Went early and stayed late...excellent excellent excellent. Cannot say enough about the staff, the service...but most of all THE FOOD!! It truly is a special evening out, from the starters they put before you when you sit down, to the cheesecake you have to force yourself to eat because you're so DAMN FULL!!! The "Costoletta alla Parmigiana" should NOT be missed, neither should the "Pollo in Crosta". Great wine list, even have some lower end options if you're on a budget!!

The porcini mushroom ravioli with cream sauce was out of this world as was the cheesecake (which we went back for after eating elsewhere the second night!). Service is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as usual, even if just having dessert! (May spot celebs dining there.) Every meal exceptional! Not snobby at all!

I'm very fortunate that I'm able to dine in Manhattan frequently. I'm not a formal "review guy" but I thought that my recent experience at Il Mulino deserved a proper acknowledgement. My beautiful wife ( of 27 years ) and I were warmly greeted by the restaurant hostess Dianna and the bartender Mirsada ( who was particularly attentive ) before being seated by Wayne ( the maitre d and business manager ). Wayne's level of attention and responsiveness were extraordinary as he checked in with us frequently throughout the evening. Our waiter Jorge was great and did not rush us despite it being a Friday night during Restaurant Week. The food was excellent and we even met a nice couple who were seated at the next table. It was a terrific evening as Wayne and his team made us feel special even though we are not "regulars". Perhaps we will become "regulars" as I'm looking forward to my next visit to Il Mulino. Best, Ray.

NYC boasts many Italian restaurants, and there are many gourmet spots to choose from, but Il Mulino stands out. A very traditional Italian restaurant, your meal begins with cheese and bruschetta that will blow you away. The menu has all of the Italian classics (veal chops, pasta, tiramisu). A great restaurant for a date or a celebration. The wait staff is exceptional and take very good care of the customers. Lots of wine to choose from as well! Make sure you have a reservation and be prepared to spend some money. This restaurant is not cheap but it is worth every single dollar.

Veal Shank Absolutely out of the world Service fantastic too Book in advance, very busy and one Hollywood Actor

Small intimate restaurant serves up great Italian fare. From the moment you sit down, you are presented with antipasto which sets the stage for a memorable experience.

Food, service and atmosphere wonderful. Great find & would definitely come back next time I’m in New York

Some friends and I splurged here for my fiancee's birthday...the experience is unparalleled! The service is a definite highlight of the evening. We were somewhat early for our reservation, so sat at the bar sipping drinks and talking to the folks. The wine was deep and red and delicious. My fiancee had the mussels and a friend had the octopus, both melted in our mouths. I had a wonderful lobster dish and my fiancee had a great veal chop. all of us kept saying "mmmm" over and again! For a really special time, it is worth every penny!

Fantastic food and service. Free platter of amuse bouche. Cocktails and pasta are on the pricy side, but worth it. Extra-attentive service. Osvaldo and Nicola were professional, friendly, and perfect companions for a quiet lunch which was exactly what I needed. Fresh taste, although nothing beats lunch or dinner in Italia. Grazie!

Run with distinction as always by Claudio this place never disappoints and is usually packed to the gills so booking is essential.

Love this restaurant! Convenient location, nice atmosphere. Food outstanding. They begin your experience with the chunks of Parmesan cheese and olives. Make sure you order their meatballs as an appetizer. Delicious! Can't go wrong with any of their main courses. Seafood, pasta... meat, all great! TavelDivaDayna

This was our second visit to Il Mulino, the first being 10 years ago and it was as good as we remembered. The bruschetta they bring to the table before you start is just so tasty, along with lovely lumps of parmesan cheese and olives to start your meal off perfectly. The menu is extensive, typical Italian fare. Il Mulino is always busy, and a good sign lots of local families, not just tourists. I had the dover sole for my main course, it was heavenly, my husband was a little disappointed with the shrimp he chose but our daughter had pasta and the sauce was wonderful. The staff are all charming, a couple of larger than life characters that add to the experience! Importantly, they are super efficient. The restaurant is really dark, really really dark, we all needed flash lights to see the menu, the wine list is extensive. Of the four nights we ate out in NYC this was the most expensive. We would definitely recommend.

I took a chance walking in and asking for a table for 2, business dinner (sometimes the last minute decisions are the best ones). I was graciously welcomed and escorted to a perfect table (I got lucky, because u need reservations). My experience was memorable, the food there is spectacular (and at home we eat good, old school Italian, so its hard to be impressed by Italian food). This is a special place. If you are looking for quality and attention to detail, this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

Ate here on a recommendation from a friend. Usually I would stick to restaurants in the top 50 or so on TripAdvisor, but I'm glad I went. They bring so much bread and other small appetizers to the table that I almost filled up on those. I shared an octopus appetizer and I found that very tender, but way too salty. My main was seafood risotto and I enjoyed that, although I have had better elsewhere. Tiramisu was pretty good, but the tartufo was sinful! Service was good, and I found the atmosphere quite cosy.

We were greeted warmly and service was excellent throughout the meal. We sat down to beautiful breads, and other pre-appetizer goodies. The ravioli special, ordered as an appetizer was fantastic. So was the meatball ricotta appetizer. The main courses: lobster special, rigatoni, and bronzino were all wonderful. Desserts were great as well. Decor was old-world NY. All in all, just terrific.

We were expecting so much and got so much less. We have to say the serving staff was very cortious but the food was more than ordinary. Antipasto good, as you would expect but the main course of tortellini in cream sauce and the pasta vongole were tasteless , poor quality with chinese garlic. The price is high end but the taste, quality and decor is not. Go somewhere else!

Visited on a Saturday night for a special family celebration. Arrived on time, seated immediately and fed immediately . More waiters than customers, the service was special, very special. Our waiter Nicholas was from our ancestors home near Calatafimi, Sicily, small world. Friendly, professional and helpful. The restaurant is tiny, and dark but the food is the reason to go,. Exceptional. Every single morsel is memorable. They begin by serving you cheese, salami, extremely thin zuccini, bread that is better than the finest bread you had and then more bread better than the first round. Then you choose your dinner, We were served appetizers of fresh mozzarella that was complimented with prosciuto, roasted peppers and tomatoes, baked clams that melted in your mouth and delicious calamari. Entrees included a stuffed lobster served out of the shell, , pasta bolonese, a chicken and sausage dish in a light sauce that was hard to resist and a mushroom ravioli. Each and every entree was a mouthwatering joy. We shared an ice cream dessert that also included fresh cream and berries. Each and everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. Cheap no , but an experience that 4 days later has you thinking of when you could possibly return. Not a romantic spot, saw a few tables of two bothered by the tight quarters. If you want wonderful food with great service this is the place. Dinner for the four of us, with 2 bottles of wine start to finish about $600. We could have lingered for longer with more wine but were two full to be honest. They never rushed us and we were treated like we had been there many times before. It's an experience not to missed..

A lot of employees, quick service, but not customer appreciation. A big variation of Italian food. Good, not awesome foof. Small romantic place, good for couples

From the elegant table setting to the helpful waitstaff, my experience was wonderful. The added bruschetta and parm cheese / bread was lovely. My app, entrée and dessert were fresh, flavorful and nicely sized. I'm happily looking forward to my next meal here!

We were visiting from Hawaii and staying near the Greenwich Village neighborhood. We'd made reservations two weeks in advance after reading great reviews. When we stepped into the restaurant, it felt like we were transported in time! There's a charming,old-world atmosphere here. It was Mother's Day & the place was bustling with diners and staff. We were seated immediately and served wonderful complimentary antipasto starting with parmesan cheese freshly carved from a wheel. Next came bruschetta, salami, garlic bread & a generous bread basket - all before being handed our menus. Our waiter, George, recited the specials of the day with glorious fanfare. I settled on one of the specials, a wonderfully decadent Porcini Mushroom Ravioli in a truffle champagne cream sauce. Heavenly! My husband ordered the veal marsala and declared it the best he's ever had [ we've visited Italy twice ]. The service was impeccable, yet friendly. The Maitre D even found time to chat with us about the history of the restaurant. We shared dessert, a divine tiramisu & as we finished - another server offered us house made raisin grappa. What a beautiful finish to a wonderful dining experience. We can't wait to return . . .

Intimate setting, great service, even better food. I’ve had the pleasure of eating at a lot of fine restaurants in NYC (not all reviewed here) and Il Mulino is one of the very best. Don’t order of the menu. The waiter will give you a long list of specials covering covering appetizers, pasta course and the main course. Plenty of choices and all are fresh and fantastic. The branzino is an Il Mulino speciality and I highly recommend it.

I had trouble deciding on an entre because the selection was fabulous. I settled on the Chilean Sea Bass...the perfect choice. House garlic bread is not to be missed. Service was perfect. We felt welcome to stay long beyond when we should.

From entrance to departure, Il Mulino is awesome. A big welcome from Claudio is the start of a great meal. Food is outstanding and service is top of the class. I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and I have never been disappointed. One must pace yourself as the amount of appetizers served prior to your main course can be overwhelming. Be sure to leave room for dessert!

Very fine Italian cuisine. Truly classic Italian style service. a perfect experience. We ordered off-menu and requested a sampling of all their best. It was a great way to get a sampling of everything with smaller portions.

This restaurant is very impressed with itself. Food is good, but pricey. They have lots of staff, yet not really friendly, but stand offish. Tables are small and very crowded together. I was bumped by waiters constantly! Based upon the cost of our dinner ,not worth it

We've been going here for years and consider it the best Italian restaurant we have ever been too. And we have been to all the so-called new best places. They don't compare. First, the service is second to none. You feel at home the minute you walk in. Then the place is old school all the way. The food, well you can't beat it anywhere. My go-to is the shrimp oreganata and the spaghetti bolognese. My wife always gets the caprese followed by there famous mushroom truffle ravioli. It's just about perfection. It is also the experience that makes this place special. From the cheeses, salami, zucchini, and the best bruschetta and bread selection you will ever have, to the Grappa shot at the end this is a memorable dining experience!

I like trying new places on restaurant week. It's a way to find places to return to and I would think they’d put their best out. Firstly, if you didn’t know they had a special menu you were out of luck. 2/3rds of the diners did not request the menu. Secondly, as for atmosphere, kitchen staff carried pots of food down the aisle all through out the time, evidently heading to a lower level. Thirdly, the food was mediocre at best. The pre dining bruschetta was the best. The ravioli tasted like the prepackaged frozen entrees and the sauce was too sweet. In NYC you can get amazing pasta so I ask Why? The salmon was smothered in the sweet tomato sauce so again it was evident the medium rare request wasn’t possible. The flan was excellent. As was the wine pairing which I only knew about because of the special menu. It would have been helpful to know it was two glasses, one red and one white, but the wait staff was less than communicative. Finally, I guess what prompted this review was the cocktail. When you order a specific brand of liquor and you don’t have it just tell the client. Getting a substitute and paying premium for alcohol I don’t like was unforgivable. I simply would have had another glass of the excellent Chianti. I think about all the amazing dining experiences nearby. I wish this could have been another on my list. The vacationers should watch out. It was easy to tell who was visiting from out of town and I’m sure they weren’t excited either.

We arrived at 12pm, on time for our lunch reservation. It was pouring rain, and upon arriving we found the door locked. The manager saw us waiting, came to the door to say he wasn't going to open it yet, and left us standing outside in the rain. He didn't open the door until 12:02pm - a really rude way to treat your customers. Why not let us at least wait inside in the vestibule so your customers aren't waiting in the rain because you aren't on time opening your restaurant? We nearly left after this, but decided to give it a try anyway. We had the 3-course restaurant week tasting menu. The first course I had was a 'caprese salad', which consisted of one slice of tomato, one slice of mozzarella and one piece of basil with olive oil and vinegar. The second course (for which I even paid a $5 supplement) of porcini ravioli consisted of exactly 5 small ravioli. My friend got the penne all'arrabbiata, which I tried - it didn't have any spice at all. At best, this is Italian American, not real Italian food, but with tiny portions. We left hungry.

Another excellent visit (to the 3rd street location). Seems to get better with subsequent meals here. Everything is good, service is excellent and the ambience in a such small room is wonderful. Italian food and hospitality at its best.

Il Mulino is the definition of NYC dining. The food is outstanding and the service is the best. Yes it is pricey but it is well worth it. Claudio is the Matre D and Louie will take care of you at your table. I had the Osso Bucco last week (it was a special). It was the best I ever had. It was tender and flavorful. My wife had a stuffed veal chop (also a special). It was too large for her to finish. We also has a sea food salad appetizer, desert and 2 drinks each. All this in addition to the assorted breads, cheese, mushrooms, salami, eggplant, and more that is a standard on your table. They always end your meal with an after dinner drink. R. Fortunato

For very good Italian food in a dark and romantic setting with several staff waiting to serve you this is your place. Upon seating you are served several breads with different "toppings" and "dippings". Don't fill up though because the meals are plentiful. I had the chicks parm and my wife had a pasta with spicy sauce. The pastas were fresh and the sauces quite flavorful. Desert was quite good with a tiramisu and a chocolate dipped ice cream. Be sure to review both their regular menu and their special menus, both available online. Good staff, good food in a darker intimate setting.

We came with our family of 6 to celebrate a birthday. From time of entry to departure, the experience was memorable. The service, the attention to detail, the food, the cozy atmosphere, all contributed to a very special evening! The waiter recited a long list of entree specials- do consider those when ordering- excellent! The standard menu options are wonderful too. The table is adorned with a variety of breads and cheeses and olives to munch on as you wait for your main course and the wine list boasts $$$ Italian wines. The steak, seafood, pasta and accompanying sides were cooked and presented with perfection. The post meal fun included a shot of grappa for all, waiters singing a birthday chant as they placed a dessert sampler in front of the birthday “boy”. We all enjoyed the night of great food, festivities and service- not to be forgotten!

Restaurant Week To be honest it’s a month long process to have the idea of enjoying New York City’s finest restaurants at an extreme discount. Since I don’t believe in discounts of any kind I thought that I would give it a shot for pure research. I’m quite sure that so many have taken constant advantage of this deal over the past four weeks, hence here I am at II MULINO uptown off of Madison Ave. Waiting at the bar I wait for my lunch guest and sip on a glass of water and complimentary house made potato chips. Staring into the main dining room the simple and modest white table cloth awaits. Well into the meal and to be honest a very impressive spread especially with a barrage of complimentary cheese, fried zucchini, salami and tomato bruschetta. Paired with with a summer Cote de Provence Rose, the first course was a singular house made meatball in a delicious tomato and cheese Sauce My guest and I are both in the food and beverage industry and after enduring one month of Restaurant week in Manhattan we wanted to see how the other half lives. That being the bargain Resturant week clientele. ILL MULINO was impressive in all aspects of the dining experience. The food was classical and flavorful. The service was attentive but not intrusive.

As a native New Yorker I understand restaurants in the village are small. That's fine, but when you charge me $75.00 for a piece of fish, I expect it be deboned at my table. Waitors are fine, but there just too many people walking around adding to the confusion and noise. As a famous philosopher once said,"Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

We visited Il Mulino last week and have visited other locations in the past. The menu is quite varied and offers something for almost all visitors. Nvertheless, we found the food to be average and not as exceptional as we have found elsewhere at other locations and competing Italian restausrants in Manhattan. There are so many choices in the city , this place was close to our hotel but was far from what we expected.

We had not been to the original Il Molina in many years. It was just as memorable. 6 different delicious treat before even ordering. Especially super was the zucchini appetizer. All the main courses were mouth watering especially the veal dishes. As always service superior. Great ending with the grappa.

This location is fun to dine in – great atmosphere and packed. The wait staff is very professional and colorful – much better than out post locations. The food doesn’t stop coming before dinner and after – some of it good. Much of it not so good. The fried zucchini is heavy with oil and bruschetta watery and flavorless. The entrees were loved by all at my table of 6 except for me. All others had either fish or meat and I had a risotto with langostine. It really wasn’t very good – the langostine were shrimp not langostine and they were fishy and gooey. The risotto was not remarkable except that it had regular mushrooms instead of porcini. All others enjoyed though – it was fine with me because by the time the entrees came, I wasn’t hungry.

Very classy Italian eatery. Extensive wine list. Food was great, notably the Shrimp Romano. The pasta appetizer with black truffle was also very tasty. Dishes are pricey but well worth it for a special occasion.

Definitely a top tier Italiano restaurant with a decor to match. A city staple for us foodies and worth every dime. Fresh food, great cocktails, and a great atmosphere make this a must try. Reservations are a must so be prepared to book a month in advance. On the pricier side and there's reason for it. Exceptional wine list and table service.

Food was better than I remembered. Service was fantastic. Leo, the captain was especially fantastic. Very friendly, knowledgeable, made us feel extremely special.

The place is cosy and the service is nice but it could do better in some dishes, the steak that i had could go for some sous vide treatment but everything else was great.

This weekend we went to Il Molino with a group of 6 people. I grew up with parents who were born in Italy and have been to Italy over 25 times. If you want authentic Italian food, this is arguably the best place in NYC. You will be greeted by Claudio upon arrival, he is a true gentleman and will treat you like family. We opted for a family style dinner with a sampling of many different items. Everything from the appetizers to the dessert were incredible. They have a fantastic wine menu as well. We started with a variety of breads, some fried zucchini, bruschetta and a chunks of Parmesan that was right off the wheel in front of us. For appetizers we had burratta, prosciutto and roasted red peppers. We then had 3 type of pasta, one was a homemade porcine stuffed ravioli, tagliatelle with red sauce and meatballs, then a fussili with a ragu. For the main course we had Lamb, beef, veal Parmesan, Dover sole and roasted chicken with sides of potatoes and broccoli rabe. For dessert there was Tiramisu, chocolate cake and a few other things on the plate. We were in no rush and spent 4 hours total from start to finish and the servers never left a water glass empty, service was impeccable. All of this does come at a price, it is not cheap by any means but certainly worth it for a night out or special occasion. Do not miss this place!!

We visited on December 24 2021 and it was a very bad experience. The service was good, but the food almost not eatable. We were a family of 5 and we didn’t finish one dish. In fact we only tasted a little and left the rest. I dont understand how Il Molino Uptown can have so high quality in food and then this was so low quality.

Il Mulino is a very elegant style of italian restaurtant. for me, the plates are way too elaborate to be real italian. every plate has multiple ingredients and it is difficult to understand the theme of the plate. The salad has a mix of artichoke, corn, cheese, etc... you do not see this in italy. my filet mignon was very aged meat. place is nice and there are always interesting people.

What a typical Italian experience , with many waiters that swiftly take your orders and look to provide top quality service. The bruschetta are fantastic, with complementary eggplant and salami . We enjoyed the veal limoni and a arabiatta pasta . Both meals were the very best. The cheese cake to finish off the meal was moist and perfectly prepared. This is high end in pricing so come prepared .

This is one of our favorites in the whole world! Staff is very attentive but don’t hover. Every bite is a delicious treat. Wines are also well paired. Reservations are required and it’s a small venue. You can count on a fine evening.

The service was sensational as were the trimmings. My saltimbocca was most unusual; had a thick gravy (not very authentic) My wife ordered fish from the specials; the fish was very bland was $75 + tax; cheapest wine was $65 plus tax. Very simple food, not worth the outrageous charges. There must be better Italian restaurants in Greenwich Village

Great food enough to feed 20 people even though we were only 4 - waiters pushed a bit too much so ordering got out of hand - otherwise food was outstanding

Friends of ours told us this restaurant was one of the best ever visited so we tried it. Appetizers consisted of blue point oysters for me which were meaty and scallops for my wife. I couldn't decide between the oysters or baby artichoke. Entries were Dover Sole for me and lobster out of the shell for my wife. Both entries were delicious. The Sole was very meaty and good. Very reasonably priced wine list. A bottle of persecco was $60. Dessert was tartufo for me and tiramisu for the Mrs. with cappacino for both of us which was very good. Service was impeccable. Food served hot. Restaurant opened at 5 pm and by 5:30, it was packed. The menu is pricey but it's nice to treat yourself once in awhile with the emphasis on once. Nice touch at the end by giving us small glasses of grappa which is similar in taste to motor oil. We enjoyed this lower Manhattan restaurant.

Always always always excellent. Claudio, runs the show and he does so with style and grace...We go twice a year and it never gets old. In the Fall, always have the truffle pasta as a starter..with fresh truffles shaved on top...it is OVER THE TOP! All the specials and the menu items are very good.. the 2.5 pound lobster is served in or out of the shell in a sauce you cannot get enough of. The rack of lamb is the best in the city size, presentation and most of all taste..if you want basic chicken parm..its so big, the plate looks small..Go...

This has been my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC for the past 18 years. It is very expensive (approx. $400-$700 for 2 people with a bottle of wine and 4-course meal). Before you order: at the table they have spicy zucchini and they bring a Parmigiano Reggiano cheese wheel and cut of a nice piece for each person along with fresh bread and bruschetta. After a few minutes, they also bring some hot, fresh garlic bread which you can use to sop up any leftover tomatoes from the bruschetta. Favorite dishes: burrata, mushroom ravioli (the BEST we've had anywhere - so delicious and very rich so we usually get this for our 2nd course), stuffed veal, dover sole, roasted potatoes. For dessert, their tartufo is yummy and my husband likes the sorbet. The wine list is just okay with mostly Italian wines. At the end of the meal, they give you a small glass of grappa.

This place never disappoints, the food is excellent and plentiful and that is before you order!! Take a torch as reading the menu can be difficult as the place is a bit too romantic (if you catch my drift), there are always a ton of specials and they have never disappointed. All that is missing is the mafia don in the corner with men whispering into his ear! If you can a reservation a definite place to visit.

Went here for a business dinner with a group of 8. One of our client's chose this place, as he'd not been here in years. He is a connoisseur of fine food, so I had high expectations. My expectations were met! The exterior of the building seems nondescript. Upon entering, you are transformed back in time to a simple, yet elegant room. The tables are much too close together, but that some how works in the space. The exposed brick walls and the waiters rushing about in their tuxes all add to the atmosphere. For a group of 8, we were seated at a table that was much too small for us. No worries; we were a friendly group, and that somehow worked too. We could all hear each other speak, which is great for a NY restaurant (many too loud to hear yourself think). As for the dinner....... Even before you get to order, there are all sorts of delicious freebees, all top quality too: wonderful breads, cheeses, bruschetta, cured meats, sauteed zucchini..... I was almost full before my meal arrived. Our waiter recited a very long list of specials, all sounded inviting. I chose a special appetizer of sea scallops. They were succulent, surrounded by pancetta, and came with a side of sauteed spinach and garlic. For my entree, I can never turn down rack of lamb. I was "warned" that it was a full rack. Little did I know what was in store. My lamb was presented to me on a platter, but then whisked away and plated. Everyone at the table marveled at the 8+ ribs that I had. The accompanying roasted potatoes were heavenly. The lamb was every bit as good as rack of lamb should be; perfectly cooked, wonderfully tender and flavorful. I had also order a side of risotto. Melt-in-your mouth goodness.... Luckily, I was only able to eat 3 of the chops, so the rest came home with me to enjoy for 2 more dinners! For dessert, I am a sucker for tiramisu. The one at Il Mulino is home-made, as are all of the desserts. I give this one two thumbs up! Others in my group equally enjoyed their dinners. The branzino looked fantastic. My client devoured his veal dish, so I guess he enjoyed it. The food was beautifully presented. The wine was kept flowing by very attentive waiters. It was nice to be pampered for the evening, and to enjoy such a wonderful meal. One word of caution: the prices are up there so if you do come, bring deep pockets (and a hefty appetite). Love this place!

I have been coming to this restaurant for many many years it never fails to serve up fantastic food the staff are great sometimes you have to wait a little longer than your table time that;s because no one wants to leave the staff there are the best and i can't recommend this restaurant enough as long as you can get a table book well in advance Thanks again Guys

Even the melon with ham was terrible and I don’t know how you can get that wrong. The most tasteless spaghetti vongole ever.

From the moment you walk into Il Mulino you get that authentic Italian feel. I went with tons of friends and we were treated like gold. I had the 100$ black truffle dish (in picture) with additional truffles shaved on (additional 75). It was amazing they have nice little bites on the table upon arrival, a house wine waiting on the table which was delicious and the food was out of this world. I will definitely be coming back in the near future!

My husband and I stopped here for lunch in upper eastside. We have been to Il Mulino in Orlando, FL and LOVED IT! However, the NYC restaurant for lunch didn't work out so well. We ordered 2 salads, the Cesar and Spinach, and the dressings on both were doused with vinegar. We also witnessed an employee and the manager arguing. The female employee was trying to do her job well, and the manager mistreated her because he didn't like being told that what he was doing had to be done better. She left out of frustration, and the whole time, he was harassing her as she left trying to tell him that he didn't have the right to be rude. Once she was gone, the manager proceeded to talk about the incident with the remaining waitress and bartender. After that ordeal, we complained about the dressing on the salads, and he offered to replace them, but we really didn't want another one since they weren't prepared well the first time. He should have removed the cost from the tab. It was pretty unprofessional all the way around.

I was very disappointed in my experience here. We had a 6pm reservation for 6 people, got the recommended bottles of wine + several courses for each person, and felt the whole experience felt extremely rushed. We asked to speak to the manager and he completely ignored us. I had been to this restaurant several times both on the UES and downtown before this new location, and expected better from what used to be a NYC establishment.

true Italian in Soho. The appetizers are wonderful and complementary. The food are delicious as if you were in Italy. On the same street as the Blue Note

Waiter told us specials. We didn’t ask prices. Got bill for 2 rack of lamb for $280. I complained gently. Waiter said they just increased from $90 eg 60%. Seriously? They refused to adjust at all. Beware! Ask prices of specials.

There can’t be better Italian food anywhere! We had calamari, Dover Sole and Veal Parmesan! The food is delicious with dense layers flavors. Our service team was fun, very attentive and ensured an even more perfect evening. We can’t wait to return with family and friends. Make a reservation and be ready for an enchanted evening.

We were four for dinner early on a weekday evening in this crowded Village eatery. When the restaurant filled up it became noisy. Il Molino is very poorly lit; reading the menu required a flashlight. The tables are more appropriate for cocktails but the waiters did a great job clearing plates to make room for each course. The veal Marsala was excellent, but the table was so dark I could barely tell where the sauce ended and the veal began. Il Molino is not bashful about pricing and the wine list's prices far exceeded even some of the top tier restaurants. In summary: Very tasty food, solid service, hefty prices and dark crowded surroundings. Unhappy price to value. Mid range with quite high mid range prices.

We were impressed immediately upon being seated. Food was delicious, presentation gorgeous and the service was impeccable. Charming Italian servers who know their menu inside and out and are eager to please. Will definitely come back here again and again.

Such a nice, friendly, warm place with excellent food. Professiona and at the same time pleasant, courteous service. The mussels were great - actually clams and mussels as a special of the day. The asparagi saltati simple and very tasty. The gamberi Francese and the lamb shank were cooked to perfection. The house offers like Parmesan cheese and garlicky toasted bread very welcomed. We had a great evening in a vibrant very Italian American environment. Highly recommended.

Wow! What a wonderful meal! We had the bacon wrapped scallops to start, which were excellent, followed by the special lobster ravioli in vodka sauce and truffle mushroom risotto. All was excellent. Loved the appetizers they brought out to start with, and the grappa they served at the end. The atmosphere is quaint and cute as well. Will definitely become a regular spot!

Excellent attentive service from smartly presented waiters, food choices are based on Italian staples, but with the American more-of-everything approach. Pastas are cooked to al-dente standard. Plates are generous, wine list is well priced with good selection of Italian varieties. Honest, well priced (for Gramercy) Italian eatery.

We had a great dining experience last night. As soon as we were seated, our drink orders were taken, water was brought along with assorted Italian goodies. Our main server Claudio was friendly, professional and helpful. He told us about the specials and my wife was sold on the 3 pound lobster. It came with pasta which she didn’t want. She preferred a salad, no problem. I went with a burrata caprese and filet mignon. The service was excellent and timed perfectly. One thing I drink a lot of water and my water glass was constantly filled. I ordered a fine bottle of wine from Campana. My wife was thrilled with the lobster presentation. Instead of placing a huge 3 pound lobster in front of her, they cut it for her so she didn’t have to do all the hard work and just enjoyed her lobster. My burrata salad had pure virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and came with roasted potatoes, a nice portion. We were pretty full but they had so many homemade desserts we had to have something. We ended up having a perfectly made warm zabaglione with fresh berries made right in front of us. There aren’t many places that make it, there are fewer that make it tableside and do it well. I’ve seen people complain about the prices. It’s NYC, it’s fine Italian food. You do get what you pay for.

This was not really the experience we were hoping for. We arrive at 7pm which was our scheduled time only to be told that we would have to wait for at least 30 minutes to get a table unless we took a table that was located next to the door (every time it would open, cold air would come in). The good news is it was quieter (not quiet) than the rest of the restaurant. No one took my wife's coat. We were served bread right away but then no one came by with menus. I had to go and ask for them. The food was pretty good but not anything special.

Our server, George, who has been there for 27 years and is originally from Lake Como, steered us in the right direction. Veal pounded very thin was excellent and tasty. When confronted with a choice between 2 pastas, George split them and served both. Fabulous and attentive service in a bustling atmosphere. Began with complimentary Bruschetta and ended with home made small cannoli. Excellent choice of Pinot Grigio. Topped off with Grappa. Fortunate that we weren't driving!

We got seated at 4:30 Sunday afternoon for a party of 6 prior to seeing Les Miserables on Broadway. We were warmly welcomed. Our waiter George demonstrated the utmost in service. We were surrounded with complimentary appetizers immediately upon seating. We split bacon wrapped scallops as main appetizer- delicious! For our main courses we had stuffed veal chop, rack of lamb, Chicken parm, linguini Alfredo all awesome. The rack of lamb my wife had was off the charts delicious- melted in your mouth with no lamb gamey aftertaste. The portions were generous as well as delicious. The waiter George was like part of the family by the end of the meal. We felt more like we were eating at his house then a restaurant. Highly recommend this restaurant- wonderful dining experience. You may even catch a celeb!

We have visited Il Mulino in Vegas many times, so we wanted to make sure we visited the original in NYC. It did not disappoint. Same impeccable service and food!!

Meat restaurant located in the city that never sleep's with small amount of Italian classy decor. Very tasty meat dishes with all kind of home made sauces and pretty nice service

We never miss eating here when we go to NYC. We usually go for a late lunch, then have a light dinner. That way we can try all the wonderful offerings they bring to the table as well as appetizers and dessert. We love the pappadelle that they prepare in the dining room. The place is small so they do it off to the side where you can still see the preparation. Meatballs are fabulous as well. We have had veal, fish on previous visits and they are excellent. In fact everything we have ever tried is superb. We have been going here for over 20 years and love it. Tartufo for dessert was delicious too.

After almost 25 years of eating at Il Mulino I am sad to say this was our last time. We arrived for our 1:00 lunch to a practically empty dining room, only one other table was occupied. Those 2 gentlemen seemed to be having a business lunch with multiple bottles of wine, maybe that is why Claudio who always greets us and comes to our table to speak to us only visited this table. In fact he walked right by us never acknowledging us at all. With only 2 tables of diners you would have thought he would have at least said hello. First of all I can't believe he did not recognize us or our name on the reservation. The whole experience was completely lackluster, and that is putting it mildly. The wonderful cheeses and other offerings were no where as good as usually. In fact they did not taste fresh at all. Tthe brushette was only a couple of pieces and the plate of cheese was reduced to the waiter coming by with the cheese wheel and giving each of us a small piece. The salumi tasted off as well. The waiter falied to mention the meatball appetizer to us, we noticed it served to the other table. We settled for clams oreganato as our appetizer to split. Half of them were so tiny you could barely get a piece of clam, 8 clams only 4 at somewhat decent size the 4 others each with a speck of clam. This was $19.50. When we mentioned to our waiter that he failed to tell us about the meatball, he brought us one to share. The pappadelle was good, but for $36.00 each for a small serving it should be. The whole atmosphere/ambience was such a downer. The waiters not the least bit enthusiastic, Claudio ignoring us, etc. we just wanted to leave and skip dessert. When the waiter brought the grappa that was the final straw. It was watered down! The delicious syrup like consistency we usually get, was now watery and weak. We knew then we had to put Il Mulino in our rearview. I only wonder what Fernando the original owner would think. We have noticed over the past few years that they are not busy at all at lunch. We have always been treated well so we really didn't care. This visit was totally opposite. We can get better pasta for much less . $160.00 for this plus tip just not worth it!

We celebrated our 6 year anniversary at Il Mulino and couldn't be more pleased. IM has a classic "old school" Italian vibe in an intimate setting of a scatter of white tableclothed tables in a warm, inviting room of vintage floral wallpaper. The waiters have personalities almost as large as the lamb chops and the whole branzino (which they clean for you) baked in salt was sheer perfection. Dessert was classic Italian fare perfectly executed. Try the Tiramisu :)

This restaurant is probably the biggest tourist trap in newyork. You pay at least 250 per person and you get a greasy full of olive oil and garlic horrible food. Only people without taste can come back to this restaurant. I wonder how long more this place will exist since half of the tables where empty. I must say that the staff was very entertaining there are all able to play in any maffiosi movie right away.

went with my family for my Birthday and I was blown away. everything about the experience was great from the service, décor wow so great. Food was next level So authentic like my grandma cooked it. This is a place you have to go to and have the best Italian food in town!!!!

Whilst in NY on a short break from London meeting our friends from California, we decided to have dinner here. My friends and I were really excited, as we had heard raving reviews about the restaurant. As we sat down in the overly dark, cramped room, we were given the "appetisers" immediately, before our drinks orders were even taken. Strange... and the deep fried zucchini drenched in oil left much to be desired. Then, the waiter came back to the table and took everyone's drink orders. Well, I say everyone meaning everyone except me... Not sure why this was. I mean, I could guess, as there was an obvious difference between my 3 friends and I, but I understand that's a strong accusation to make, so the less said about that, the better; I was completely ignored. Maybe he couldn't see me in the dark. I have no idea? Whilst he walked away, I shouted "excuse me, sir" around 3 times, but until one of my friends at the table called him back, again, I was still completely ignored. Let's just say, I lost my appetite at this point and started feeling quite uncomfortable. As others have mentioned, there is an extremely long, well rehearsed, comical list of "specials" which was also questionable, but hey ho. Service was rushed, throughout (the table was constantly being cleared before everyone had finished) and the staff that did serve us were arrogant, borderline rude and lacked personality, whilst several men in suits stood around laughing and talking amongst themselves. When I finished my meal, I complimented the first waiter on how wonderful the side veg was, thinking that being ignored earlier might have genuinely been a mistake, however, this time, whilst he was in front of me, I was completely ignored again. I really don't understand the hype that surrounds this place. Personally, I think this restaurant is massively overrated and pretenitious. The staff were extremely rude, to say the least. The food was average at best (note, I complimented the side veg) and we were rushed in and out within 1.5 hours. My experience left a really bad aftertaste and I wouldn't dream of returning or recommending it to anyone.

I know there are other Il Mulino’s in NY and throughout the US but there is only one original and this it it! From the service, to the food, to the wine it’s the best Italian dining experience you will ever enjoy! This is the most well-orchestrated dining experience all led by the maestro Claudio himself!! It’s not the ambiance...or is it? And the food...first you eat for 30 minutes before you ever see the menu...then we enjoyed Il Mulino Capellini and succulent scallops. Then the most incredible Lamb Chops you have ever tasted...but if you’re a couple take my advice and share it. And don’t miss the desserts...from the ricotta cheesecake to the chocolate cake and much more...it’s the perfect ending to an evening you will never forget! If there is one reservation to make months in advance before you come to NY this is it!

The most exquisite food you will taste, from the classic NYC West 3rd location to Florida, Vegas, Long Island. Simply the best. Service is top rated.

Il Mulino continues to be our favorite place to go in NYC. This is old school Italian in an old school joint with amazing service and food. Sure it can get noisy and if you don't get a table to your liking it could be a bit cramped but wow the food is the star here. The ravioli in black truffle sauce is the best followed by the shrimp oreganata, spaghetti bolegnese and the tiramisu are all the best you will ever have. Prices aren't cheap but you get what you pay for. We have been to all the best and this is better than them all.

This restaurant came highly recommended by a golf friend. Very old style Italian. Service was fabulous with waiters in bow ties. Attentive to every gastronomical need. We started with cheese cut from a 1/4 wheel ,sliced zucchini , sausage , bread , bruschetta . Extra of a meatball appetiser. Then there was the menu and specials ....... what can I say . All was delicious . The ravioli was unreal mushrooms and champagne sauce. A must if visiting NYC.

Look, I get that there are newer more trendy Italian restaurants in the city and I fell prey to trying a lot of them over the past few years. But that doesn't mean the newer ones are the best. In fact, while it may no longer be cool to say it, Il Mulino remains the best in the city, and to me its not close. The place is quintessential NYC old school Italian. The service is second to none. And the food is unreal. There is literally nothing not to love. The treats you get when you sit down are amazing highlighted by the cheese and bruschetta. The mushroom ravioli remains one of the two best pasta's in the city (Carbone has a spicy rigatoni rival), and the veal p, shrimp oreganata and the bolognese is the best I ever had. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. For my money, its the best place in all of NYC!

This is a very busy restaurant. We visited on a Friday evening and were very lucky to get a table for 2. We were told it could be 30 minutes of a wait and we were fine with that as we were able to sit at the lovely bar and have a drink while we waited. We only had to wait for 20 minutes and were seated. The servers were very helpful going through the menu with us and answering any of our questions. There was plenty on offer and the food was very authentic. It is a bit pricey but it is a lovely restaurant and it would appear to be a very popular spot for large groups. It is well worth a visit and the food is excellent.

Our friends swear by this place and it was good but not among the best Italian in our experience. Tables are crowded together, making servers often bump into patrons. Provided nice appetizers upon arrival (complimentary); extensive and expensive wine list, Bucatini alli Amatriciana was "fine" but nothing out-of-this-world, and the same could be said for the Spaghetti alle Vongole. Anchovies would have improved the caesar salads.

The first impression was great. Staff that were super attentive and service minded. However, the service stopped after the first 15 minutes. During the actual meal no one came over unless it was to take our plate. It’s a pretty wide gap from what first met us. We made a reservation based on the thanksgiving menu. After we were seated and placed the order we were made aware of that they served tiramisu for dessert. We asked about the pumpkin cheesecake, where the waiter just said no - there was tiramisu. The turkey was dry, had a lot of small bones, clumps of fat and cartilage. Seemed like leftovers. The mashed potatoes were exactly what it were described as - mashed potatoes. Tasteless. The sauce and the nuts were good though. The tiramisu was good, but not why we came there. We were hoping for a pumpkin dessert on thanksgiving. Immediately after the dessert the bill were placed on the table, without even asking for it.

Always love this place for service and food. Expensive, but worth every penny. Recently took my family there and wasn’t disappointed. Had the Veal Chop, Veal Parmigiana and some pasta dishes. George our waiter Captain made the evening even better. He is very attentive and entertaining. We had the best experience and can’t wait to go back.

I have been traveling to New York City, monthly, for over 40 years, and always make a point to have at least one meal at Il Mulino on every trip! It is the greatest Italian restaurant in New York City! The food is excellent and the service staff go above and beyond to make sure you have an excellent dining experience! The maitre 'd, Claudio, is, without exception, the finest in America! He especially goes out of his way to please customers and make sure the reservations are as expected! He is outstanding! Well I am a fan of this restaurant and it still doe snot disappoint. I like the midtown location and its very convenient to many of the hotels. The one thing that everyone should know is this restaurant is true authentic Italian. They may try to push their wines but its up to you to push back service is good not great but just complain loudly like most New Yorkers, and you will get noticed. The food is superb and I definitely reccomend going.
