I love this place and enjoy it with family. Try the gnocchi, it's the best! Great service and wine is outstanding. Quiet and small and perfect for dates or family night.

This tiny restaurant is a gem. The Sunday night multi-layered lasagne is to die for! Actually pretty much everything on the menu is done to perfection. It's fresh and delicious. We've been here multiple times over the last few months. The waiter can be a bit hard on the edges, but the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. If alone, eat at the bar and make friends. This is a gem.

Dined here whilst visiting New York. We met up with a friend who lives in the city and recommended the restaurant. The food and wines were delicious, the pasta I had was amazing. Friendly service and good value too.

My wife and I visited Julio and the cast at Il Posto Accanto last Saturday evening along with another couple. The atmosphere when we arrived was loud and upbeat with a very cool vibe. The restaurant is small and it was packed. We were seated immediately at the bar by Julio, who by the end of the evening was sitting with us enjoying one of the many amazing wines. The food quality was exceptional and the small plates were perfect for sharing and sampling. We started with a Dandelion and Anchovy Salad and the Calamari Alla Griglia. The salad was a perfect start and the calamari was one, if not the best I have ever eaten. My wife, who is not a fan of calamari even enjoyed it. I had the Linguine Con Le Vongole Macchiate which was simply amazing. My wife had the Scialatelli which she thoroughly enjoyed...I did taste it and it was incredible. We finished the meal with the Homemade Panna Cotta with Berry Sauce which was also delicious. Between the awesome staff, great food and solid wine choices, we cannot wait to return!!

Really good home cooking food. Not a big menu and or a long menu but it is very good home cook. The sauce was superb. The bread was amazing. And the service was so good that you do not want to leave.

A tiny wine bar with mind boggling great house made pastas. If you can get it you will be back often. Mostly filled with regulars but newbies made very welcome.

If you like pretentious Manhattan dining, go somewhere else! If you like perfect Italian cuisine, with awesome, down-to-earth people treating you like you treat them, then you may want to come here. Recommended by some people we love and trust - food snobs all - I had the Lasagne ( apparently only available on Sundays only)….. the best lasagne I’ve ever had. No Hyperbole. The husband/host (I'm sorry I forgot his name) was the bomb… and like he said…. They work hard to find the right ingredients, and make it all with love. And the wines were perfect. They sat 7 of us with 1 day reservation, and we made a lot of noise and they were kind and patient. AWESOME. Highly Recommend

Maybe I have already written about Il Posto Accanto, but I just went there again and feel like I am returning to Italy every time. They cook their pasta perfectly and their sauces and combinations are simple yet flavorful. You must try it- Remember, it is very small.

Independence Day weekend, and it was not crowded, though it filled up as the evening progressed. We received a warm welcome, and service was attentive, but not rushed. The chef's husband stopped by the table a couple of times to check on things. There was a delicious assortment of small plates, each well prepared with imagination. A nice list of interesting wines, many under $50. Easy to understand why it is a neighborhood favorite.

Beatrice “Bea” Tosti di Valminuta of il Posto Accanto “The Place Next Door” a hidden gem of Italian Cuisine in the East Village cooked up with quality , soul and heart inspired by her home city of Rome. This piccola trattoria make you fell at Bea’s home kitchen. Si mangia come Dio comanda ! La pasta Alle vongole veraci was delicious.... linguine and clams cooked to perfection.....great wine selection , bel’ caffe and if you want to finish with a digestif don’t leave without a glass of Vecchio Amaro del Capo !

Can't believe I am the first person to write a review on this bar/restaurant. I read about this restaurant in the Departure magazine, and I have being thinking about coming here for a while. We live in Washington D.C. and when we come to NYC about 3-4 times a year, we stay in mid town area and hardly venture out to East Village. They don't have entrees, but serve small plates. Everything we ordered was so special, my favorite were lemon linguini with shrimp and meatballs (separate dishes). You can taste the love it went into to make these gorgeous and yet uncomplicated dishes. Their sister restaurant Il Bagatto which is next door is pretty good as well.

Delicious intimate dining in a cool neighborhood. Fabulous food, great wine list and excellent service. Our favorite was the roasted vegetables with fresh burrata. Would definitely go back.

Our good friend, who is a foodie recommended this restaurant. The place is very casual but the food is to die for. Beatriz the owner cooks a mean meal, she makes suggestions according to what is fresh. I had the most delicious lightly breaded anchovies of my life! They’re not always on the menu. Everything was great and the atmosphere is like you’re in someone’s kitchen.

We had lunch just as they opened on a warm Friday - sitting street side in their odd outdoor benches - while we were waiting to run to the airport.. An extremely pleasant lunch. A glass of wine & great pastas - carbonara & tortellini - with friendly service. Life is good.

This was our first night in NYC and we were heading to the Upright Citizen's Brigade so searched the area for a meal. Who would have expected the doors to be wide open to the street at the end of December, but eating open air under the Christmas lights made it that much more special. We called in a reservation, but it was not really busy. Had appetizers, entrees, and wine - all were delicious. The pasta sauces were amazing and the portions were filling. The seafood was perfectly prepared. Would not hesitate to recommend.

My favorite neighborhood spot. Great service and amazing food. Pastas are cooked to perfection and their brunch has the best Carbonara in the city.

We went to the restaurant during our stay in Little Italy. The restaurant is quite small-we plumped for bar seats as there was a wait for a table. This meant we could talk more readily to the bar staff to ask his opinion about wine and food. The menu is pleasing and contained some unusual flavours as well as some classics. The dishes are similar to tapas size so we ordered a number between us. Having eaten in Rome and in Sciliy I can safely say this is some of the best Italian food I've tasted. The service was also outstanding.

The atmosphere at lunch time was a bit strange since there were very few guests at that time. We didn’t feel very comfy although the waiter wasn’t impolite at all. We had salad and two different pasta and everything was ok. The salad wasn’t memorable, but the pasta was quite good. Not outstanding, but well al-dente coked and with tasty sauces. I must say that I definitely don’t like the restaurants with no tablecloth (a simple paper would be enough), unless you sit on the bar. I guess is a personal oddity, but it is what it is.

I reviewed this place before and said I would come back next time I was in New York. Well I did, and was glad I did!! It is every bit as good as it was two years ago. Relaxed , good value and excellent food.

I first came here a few years ago with friends, one of which knew the owner Julio, and introduced us to the most amazing food prepared so lovingly. Julio was warm and welcoming, and gave us an experience I'll never forget.... I'm cautious about eating calamari, since if it's not cooked perfectly, it can be rubbery and unenjoyable, no matter how much sauce it's doused with. This creation was lightly grilled and didn't need anything to accompany it...it was so very perfect on its own. We also had these simple blistered green peppers coated in sea salt for a little nibble as well, and they were just perfect! My friend ate things that she would never try, like eggplant, and totally enjoyed herself. I had an amazing pasta dish, scialatielli, and some wonderful red wines. On my next visit, I took my husband. Unfortunately, Julio was not there, but we sat at the bar, and indulged in many of the creations I had enjoyed previously. My husband was blown away by the food...he talks about what a great find this restaurant was in the middle of a neighborhood. I especially like that the wine list is very reasonably priced, and they really know their wines here. The bartender was really nice too. I can't wait to go back.

We came to this restaurant by accident thinking we had booked a different place, but were so glad we stayed. It's very small and informal, (high tables and seats at the bar), but the staff are lovely, and the owner seems to take great pleasure greeting and talking to the customers. Wine is really expensive in New York, but the excellent bottle of Ripasso we had would have been more expensive at home. The food was fabulous, from the selection of breads to the tortelloni filled with oxtail, (superb), to the marinated beef fillet and finally to the coffee. I'm sorry we didn't have room for dessert. This will be our first stop if we get a chance to visit the LES any time soon.

If you are looking for spaghetti and meatball, or sausage and peppers, you won't find them here. There is very little of what passes for "traditional Italian" dishes in America at this restaurant. If you want a fresh take on Italian, but with the simplicity and flavors of Italy, this is your place in New York. I ate here with a group of friends, two of whom were Italian. Everyone was very happy with their meal; the two Italians claimed it was the best Italian meal they have ever had in New York (and they have eaten at quite a few Italian places in New York). You also won't get the supersized portions that have come to be associated with Italian food. The portions are modest, but adequate. The selection of wines is superb.

Excellent service with a prepared menu and accommodations for my older mother. The Lower East Side is gaining steam so it's nice to see spots like this hold onto the old neighborhood vibe thanks to the amazing owners.

Oh boy ... where to begin, drum roll please ... very legit, truly unique and a wonderful evening of family, vino and pasta. Top recommendation for a southern foodie.

Little worried when we first turned up. Off the touristy beaten track but my god it was beyond believe. Started with grilled calamari. Without a shadow of a doubt the best calamari I have eaten. Next came the pasta. I wasn't sure so I ordered the special. So happy I did. The crispy pancetta, the soft pasta. The creamy sauce. All in all the best find of the holiday and definitely somewhere we will come back to next time we are in New York.

An Italian friend from Brussels recommended Il Posto Accanto after reading the New York Times …so today it was a glorious day , about 12 degrees and we had a most amazing food experience. It is a good omen when the owner is sitting at a table with her guests. We were sitting outdoors, even took off my coat and Beatrice Tosti de Valminuta tells our waiter that she will take the order. She is full of energy, positive attitude, great manners and good recommendations. We ordered grilled portobello mushrooms, sea food pacherri, lightly fried fresh anchovies (never frozen) and a heavenly almond flour cake topped with zabaglione sorbet. The bread basket was delicious, it came with a little dish of olive oil with a drop of balsamic vine and Charles order a glass of Gavi. The bill was decent, we did not have to mortgage our apartment and loved our meal soooo much we made a reservation for Sunday lunch. I must try the spaghetti alla bottarga, the grilled calamari and other dishes I could not have today!

I love this place, I love the REAL ITALIAN FOOD, and I'm in love with Beatrice.I'll be back again and again and again.

Great menu with delicious small portions. Tasty, authentic and friendly service. Good value for money and wine list. Hidden jewel!

Third time we’ve eaten here and food and servic exceptional. Had the autumnal salad special. Gorgeous presentation and delicious. Seafood with homemade tagliolini is incredible. Sauce is amazing and an abundant amount of seafood. Panacotta with berries to die for. Highly recommend this restaurant

I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Il Posto Accanto in the East Village was so shocking I feel compelled to share. The owner, who was hosting that evening, was unbelievably rude—I’ve never encountered such behavior in my 25 years living in the city. Not only was he dismissive, but he also made us feel unwelcome from the moment we walked in. I understand that sometimes restaurants have off nights, but this was a level of rudeness I’ve never experienced before. It ruined what could have been an enjoyable meal. I won’t be coming back, and I would caution anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience to skip this place.

Home made Italian food!! Fresh and great tasting, specials every day and excellent wines in every budget. We always return when we visit NY.

Since my last review I have been spending more time in NYC in the last 6 months and have had a chance to eat here at least once a month. The short negative reviews by posters who have only one review on Tripadvisor are strange to me - I have found that the food and service is actually even better than before. The daily specials are announced on the restaurants instagram page by the truly hilarious chef owner and are made with whatever we get to often watch her choose from the Union Square farmer's market. Service is swift and efficient. This is a truly wonderful neighborhood trattoria with really authentic, fresh and delicious Italian food

A group of 4 of us had a delightful dinner tonight - We shared 2 heirloom tomato salads, 2 stuffed zucchini flours, 2 grilled calamari, peppers, and three wonderful pasta dishes. Also several baskets of wonderful breads of all kinds, and delicious olive oil. For dessert a gelato, a sorbet, a granite, and a chocolate/orange tart. Superb from top to bottom. Bravo.

Very good variety of Italian traditional plates, made with very level of products. This small restaurant of about 20 seats have a very good wine list at very reasonable prices. The must try plates are: La Bisteca and the Spaghettis with Meat Balls.

We have visited five times in the past couple years and every time we are amazed at the quality and authenticity of the food, the unusual pastas, the wonderful service and the well-chosen wines. It’s nothing like the standard Italian menu and every item delights.

The food was just ok… The owner (older Italian lady), was unfriendly and rude to say the least… Wasn’t a great experience, will not go back.

One of the best Italian restaurants. Can't get anymore homemade than this. A must to check out. Also a nice wine list. Glad our daughter found this place.

Tasty but nosiy. I wouldn't race back to this highly popular restaurant. Could be generational; I was the oldest in the room.

This place is almost too perfect, honestly -- a cozy, romantic little cave of a joint with the best Italian fare this side of the Atlantic, priced reasonably, prepared lovingly and with incredible skill at a true mom and pop operation of long standing, that increasingly rare and vanishing thing in NYC and especially on the Lower East Side. Many years ago, on an early date with my now partner, I got the inspiration for a couple of the dishes I cook at least weekly at home. Nearly 15 years later, they still make it way better. Go in the evening with your boo for fondue and twinkly lights and good wine and the music of a room full of people laughing and flirting and enjoying their food and their time with each other. Or go during the day, as I did this afternoon with my kid, when there's plenty of room in which to enjoy the city's finest plate of carbonara. Food for the soul as well as the body.

A small and warm establishment with high quality Tuscan food. Owner spends time with patrons, many of whom are local residents.

What a find! I loved this place. It's intimate, charming, romantic, great service. The food is so wonderful. This truly is a neighborhood gem or even worth a visit for an atmospheric night out. I can't wait to come back. There is an unobtrusive tv, so if you want to watch something like World Cup or Rangers playoff game, you can still do that without having to go to a sports bar. More importantly, the staff, décor and food presentation was top notch. If you're visiting the city and want a true neighborhood restaurant experience away from the big box, big name restaurants - put this on your short list.

The true Italian food. No place like Il Posto Accanto may deliver such a true Italian experience. Fabulous and so fresh! Beatrice and Julio the owners will make you feel at home. A real hidden corner for connoisseurs and real passionate foodies.

We ate at the bar. Small dining area with high tables. Wine selection was good. Pasta was excellent. Staff was very cordial. Will return.

Went for a quiet lunch on a cold day. Had a wonderful vegetable soup that was just delicious! Sat at the bar with a glass of wine and my yummy soup and totally enjoyed myself. Love the vibe. Very low key, relaxed and friendly and their food is great!

A bartender that works at a bar on the Upper West Side I frequent has been telling me about this place for a long time. Finally, went down there with a friend from Italy this weekend. Cute but horrendous on all counts: service and food. From the moment we sat at the bar we were rushed. A man, who apparently was the owner, kept asking us what kind of wine we wanted. We said we haven't had a chance to look at the menu. He comes back, asks again, and so we order sparkling water telling we'll have this until we figure out what we are eating. He brings us the water right away and asks us if we are ready for wine. Again we say we need more time. Then another bartender comes by and asks and then the owner asks again so we order wine even though we haven't decided on food. As he brings over the wine he asks what we are having to eat and we tell him we need time. He walks away and the other bartender comes with pad in hand and asks if we are ready to order. This is all in about a span of about 6-7 minutes since we first sat. We quickly order entrees, no appetizers, since we feel rushed. I ordered a basic pasta dish with tomato basil sauce and my friend ordered pasta with a lemon tomato cream sauce and shrimp. I thought the prices of the entrees were very reasonable, $14 & $16 respectively, until I got my dish. It was barely an appetizer portion. I kid you not, if there were 10 fettuccini noodles on the entire plate that might be an overstatement. Hers was not much bigger. The clincher was that my pasta was awful. Tasted like noodles in ketchup. Reminded me of Spaghettios that I ate as a kid and didn't like. My friend told me hers had no flavor. To add insult to injury, every time one of us put our fork down someone came over to try to take our plates. We told a girl who walked in she could have our seats but the food is awful. We can't understand why the place is packed. She told us that it's her neighborhood place and she loves it. It might be a one off. I told her someone I knew recommended it and we read great reviews and were so surprised about how bad it was. She said maybe it was what we ordered. I said it can't be. I ordered a basic pasta tomato sauce dish and it tasted like noodles in ketchup. My friend added hers had no taste. I told her that they've been rushing us the entire time and that's why she could have our seats. She said we should try it again. I told her I wouldn't and that I was going to write a review. She begged me not too because this is her haunt. She said it's probably the particular night or something. I thought about what she said. I've been to places that have been recommended that have not lived up to expectations. This was different. This wasn't just falling short, this was plain awful. If we were just rushed it wouldn't have been such an issue. But the food was horrendous & the portions ridiculously small. I would never consider giving it a second try. It was too far off from being close to even mediocre. I decided to write the review because I think it's only fair to let other readers know. I wish I had read something like this before I brought my poor friend from Italy, who was in for just the weekend, for the worst Italian meal either one of us have had since we can remember.

My experience on this restaurant was so great !! The waiter was very friendly and helpful. He imediatly came to our table and offered water and helped us to choose the best appetizer. I had the marinated octopus and my friend a polenta. We had both red wine Chianti. In the end we were happy. The place looked like a small Italy in New York City. Grazie di tutti, ragazze !!!

This is the only restaurant I've been to where the food has been consistently fresh and absolutely wonderful for many, many years. The chef/owner visits the farmer's market daily to create authentic Roman cuisine that makes me swoon every time I take a bite. Il Posto Accanto has a lovely neighborhood vibe and I've always felt welcome there. Another reviewer commented on the small portions, balderdash!!! Why would one ever want a giant bowl of never-ending pasta? I think the portions are perfect. Perhaps she should consider giving her patronage to the big, corporate, factory-style restaurants conveniently located in midtown. The owners are a husband and wife team who have fashioned a super-fun slice of paradise in the EV. If you want a chill, relaxed atmosphere with killer food head on downtown to Il Posto Accanto where the fabulous people meet. See you there!!

My daughter just moved into this neighborhood and what a special surprise to find this lovely neighborhood restaurant! We stopped for a late light lunch and was blown over by the amazing and probably the best Italian food that I've had. We also enjoyed a bottle of Nero Ossidiana that was spectacular. I can't wait to return!

Nice and cosy Italian neighbour restaurant with only 30 seats. We sat at the bar which we enjoyed and had good Italian food and wine. Super service. If you like these small cosy, not too fanc,y restaurants where atmosphere is close to as important as the food, and you like Italian, this is your place, even if it is a bit off the beaten track when it comes to Manhattan restaurants.

This is a great spot that you must try. We met the owners who are a husband and wife team. I am sorry I didn't get her name but she was a hoot. We sat at the bar as there was a very large table that took up most of the dining room. We are glad we did. Her recommendations were very good especially the fried sardines that was a special app for that day. The pasta was fresh and service outstanding. Not a big restaurant but well worth the visit.

Go! We tried: fried anchovies (special app for the day), eggplant croquettes, oxtail tortellini, straccetti filet and apple tart. Every item was SO delicious! Plates were cleaned!! Service was excellent and we enjoyed chatting with the owner. Will def come back here on our next visit to NYC.

This is an absolutely wonderful cozy neighborhood place. I stopped in for brunch and was blown away by the deliciousness of my meal. I had a beautifully prepared wild mushroom omelette. The brunch comes with an overflowing bread basket, which I really wanted yo take home. Everyone knows everyone there, it is very friendly and warm. There are books and magazines to peruse in you are dining solo, or just watching the world entertains. The owner is delightful. There were also some beautiful pastas on the brunch menu, all freshly made, as is all their food. I will be back, often.

I am almost afraid to write a review on that amazing place the food is fabulous !! As it is small and should be kept a secret I have simply not have better Italian food in New York City the owners and the staff are very friendly You HAVE to try the deserts !!

We asked at the local fire station (which was situated on the other side of the road from our apartment) where a great local Italian restaurant was, they recommended Il Posto. Wow, it was fabulous. It was a cold March night, and the place was warm and inviting. We were greeted very warmly, and our coats were taken from us immediately as we were seated. The food was exceptional, the four of us all had different mains, all of which were outstanding.

I had the most amazing meal here, a real hidden gem of East Village, Manhattan. The lasagne is off the scale, the best I’ve had in all my years. I will be travelling back from the UK to experience this restaurant again with my wife and children it was that good.

BEST brunch in NYC! noon till 4 pm. Saturday or Sunday. Always fun. Great people. Delicious! All kinds of Roman Italian foods. Something for everyone. Over 75 species of wine to choose from. Aperol Spritz? Yes!

This is my 4th time or so at this place, the place has the best atmosphere, the people are nice, the food is great. The staff is very accomodating. Recommendation: Goooo what are you waiting for?

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it surpassed all our expectations! The food is absolutely delicious, authentic and served in perfect portions to try different dishes! I want to give a very special thank you to Beatrice and Julio for making by birthday a very special one that night! We will certainly go back!

Fantastic Italian meal in a friendly intimate setting. Menu is akin to Tapas with plates made for sharing. We shared the grilled Octopus, Caprese Pomodori and Crudo for appetizer. All were great. The Octopus real tender and flavorful, the Caprese perfectly and delicately seasoned and the Crudo tender, moist and truly delightful. For mains we had the meatballs, Branzino and Cavatelli. All again truly excellent with the latter two the favorites. For desert we picked the Bombol, which honestly after this great meal was not a solid close. Wine prices for NYC are reasonable with an ample selection. Julio is super friendly. This particular night they appeared short staffed.

My two sons, wife and I went for an early dinner to celebrate my birthday. The food was surprisingly amazing. It is tapas style, but after being seated at a 4 top we ordered 7 dishes in two waves and a wonderful bottle of Fiano di Avellino. we had the special grilled peppers, steak appetizer, stupendous lasagne, grilled squid linguine con vongole, broccoli rape con salsice and Frise’ Salad with Poached Egg, Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano,Market Fresh Organic Apples and Pancetta Dressing. We had just come home from Italy but this was food to match the best we had had there. The staff was extremely nice, and the owner visited the table several times. As it was my birthday, after we had some delicious biscotti and outstanding sweet moscato, he sent a semifreddo to the table with a candle and everyone sang Happy Birthday. Towards the end of the meal a young woman who had recently moved from Brazil played the guitar and sang Joabim. A most memorable and flavorful birthday.

The food was ok but the service was way off. We arrived and were basically hounded for our drink order and then our food order. We were asked repeatedly within minutes what we wanted and could not relax and enjoy ourselves. We tried to order just appetizers but were told we had to order all at once. We thought it was they wanted to turn the table but it was pretty much empty the whole night. Food was fine but this is not a service or “dining place”. Just a transaction

This place is a wonderful little gem on 2d Street on the Lower East Side. We went for the spaghetti bottarga, which is hard to find, but found we wanted to order everything on the menu. We started with the special appetizer of fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and anchovy, then the bottarga, and then the cod special with Sicilian sauce and polenta. Finally we had a wonderful thick, dark chocolate mousse. We had a chilled light red wine the waiter recommended. It was a great meal. We’ll definitely go back.

We just arrived in NYC in the evening and we stumbled upon this place being not far from our flat. Got in for just a glass of wine but we ordered a full dinner instead.. We had great time, really good food and found the staff very friendly. Highly recommended. :-)

I've been going here for years. Cozy atmosphere - nice bar to go with friends or solo, friendly service. And tremendous Italian wine list. Food is among the best northern Italian food in the city. You can't go wrong with anything, I recommend the meatballs, spinach salad an any of the pasta dishes.

We went here on a Monday night and ar first we had doubts as it was very quite. However, it turned out to be great. Food was good and fresh, service was nice and price reasonable! Would definitely recommend this place.

I have to admit this is one of my favorite restaurants in NY, why? Because it's simple homemade roman food with a twist! Everything is fresh, prices are good, the wine selection perfect for any budget, they have a great wine for you. The staff is professional and know their restaurant. And last but never least, Bea and Julio. Go and see for yourself.

We were lucky. Some good friends, some new ones and a night to remember. It was sweltering and we arrived to find 6 locals relaxing in deck chairs on the roadway next to the fire hydrant which had been opened slightly to allow a small cooling fountain effect. A jazz guitarist welcomed us with some suitable music. Later that night an opera singer serenaded a group inside. Being Ossies the wine flowed and I must say they have an extensive wine list. We started at $42 a bottle and ended on the $100. The food was great and timely, a credit to the chef as the place was packed out. Louis, one of our new friends commented afterwards that the night was a special experience for him too, and he has been there many times. On our next visit to NYC this is going to be the first port of call for a dinner experience.

We really enjoyed our New Years Eve dinner at this “tapas” style Italian Wine Bar. Plate pricing seemed disproportionately high compared to food quantity perhaps due to the demand in NYC on NYE but it was easier to swallow because every dish tasted so good. A very good wine selection from many regions throughout Italy. A cozy setting that was decorated very nicely for NYE. The service was average but adequate. Happy New Year!

Great place to experience a wide variety of Italian wines . The list by the glass is quite good plus there.is a much longer list by the bottle . Many of the bottle list are excellent and as such rather costly . You can do quite well ordering by the glass and the staff is most willing to make suggestions . While the food is good I would not rate it five star . All in all a fine place with the wine higher level than the food . Place has a friendly atmosphere and worth a visit particularly at lunch which tends to be wide open .

I have eaten here for lunch & dinner many times and never leave disappointed, or anything less than full. From their core menu to daily specials, there’s not a weak dish. And the service is great, they’re always there with recommendations for excellent wine pairings from their extensive cellar. Owners Bea & Julio are hands on & they make everyone feel glad to be there. These days, who could ask for more than that? Just go!

My wife owned a successful Italian restaurant for many years; she knows her pasta and loves lasagna. As luck would have it, Il Posto Accanto was featuring lasagna the evening we were there, and the waiter couldn't stop talking about how fabulous it was. Unfortunately, we believe the waiter's recommendation was based more on the restaurant's need to get rid of it as it was well past its best-before date than on its deliciousness. My wife was served a big blob of overcooked mush. I had the Tortelloni di Coda, which was house-made tortelloni stuffed with seared and then slow braised oxtail in Barolo wine and herbs. I was thinking of delicate pasta with a wonderful filling and a rich, flavorful sauce. What I got was undercooked monster tortelloni stuffed with a meat product in a watery, flavorless sauce. TripAdvisor rates Il Posta Accanto 4.5 out of 5, but after carefully considering the quality of the food, service, ambiance, and cost, we rated it a very generous 1 out of 5.

This is the real deal Italian food. If you are looking to eat great, amazing, tasty italian food - this is the place. Everything you eat is DELICIOUS. The service is even better, Beatriz and Julio - the owners are always there, ready to make your visit absolutely unique. The wine selection is also delicious!!!

Must be the best Italian in the whole of New York. Indeed I would go as far as to say it's the best Italian that I have ever tasted. Anywhere. Yea that good. The short rib pasta is just amazing. The meat balls delicious. It's all so good. The wine is nice and the device is very friendly even when it's busy and it gets very busy. The lighting and ambience of this place are excellent. I will always, always go here when I go to New York.

We found the experience to be ok. It's a cute restaurant in a nice neighborhood. The food was ok. The pasta definitely tasted homemade, however, some of it was really thick. Also, they were reluctant to make any accommodations, i.e. add sausages to a pasta dish. Not sure we would go out of the way to go there again, except maybe for their grilled octopus -- that was outstanding!!

We didn't make it here on our last visit to New York, so I was delighted to return, this time with two of my children, one of whom now lives here. It was great. We ALL loved it. Food and service still as good as ever. The wine is always great here - the bottle of Nero D'Avola we had was the best we had all week and very good value. And who'd have thought we'd be able to sit out on the street with the heater turned off in November. Lovely night. Thank you.

My sister & I enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Il Posto Accanto on the LES of Manhattan this past week. Buonissimo! We shared everything - puntarelle (sublime) & a side order of roasted mushrooms & potatoes, followed by Panino Lulu (?) and the stellar meatballs in spicy tomato sauce. For dessert we shared the special olive oil cake with cranberries. Yes, it's small and can get noisy but that's part of the charm. On an ordinary Tuesday it was quite crowded - that says something about the food & atmosphere for the little out of the way spot. I can't help but contrast this experience with the one we had on Friday night at Enzo's on Arthur Avenue. It was overpriced, the food was so-so at best and to add insult to injury, they added a $3 surcharge for the premium vodka in my very small martini. Highway robbery. We won't ever dine there again. While Il Posto Accanto isn't around the corner from me, it was well worth the trip. I highly recommend it!

Having arrived to NYC after a long travel day my two sisters and I discovered this treasure! An absolutely lovely spot looking out from a great open air table! The whole evening was delightful from the beautiful red that we had ( actually 2 bottles!) to the amazing array of plates, the freshness and floors were exquisite! Our service was beyond excellent and our waiter made us feel so welcome and right at home! There was no hurry, no rush, only the pleasantness that a perfect evening includes!!!! Thank you, II Posto Accanto! Oh how we hope to return again!

Right out of the movie Eat, Pray, Love! It is an inviting ambience that is both romantic and relaxing. You can sit at the bar comfortably or at the high back chairs around the tables of 4. This is not a place for large parties though. However, to have a private party here would be something and take over the place completely. Wow- now the food we ordered was all shared, it was explosive flavors that were just the simplest of ingredient so perfectly paired and prepared. The pasta was clearly homemade and perfectly cooked. The selections met all our palates from a non-red meat eater to a meat lover. We are planning our trip back again! Oh, the price for 4 with a bottle of Nebbiolo 2009, I think 9 different assorted shared dishes (pastas with and without fish and meats), salads, and then 2 separate glasses of wine was $200 with tip. In NYC, that is fantastic. We left stuffed and the last two pastas we did not need, but LOVED. Main pasta dishes are about $15. The wine selection is fabulous starting at high $30's and into the $40's with a great selection and then for the collectors, there are great high-end choices.

Had a birthday/anniversary celebration here - 6 of us fit comfortably at the end of a long table for 12. The restaurant/wine bar is small but intimate, romantic and most importantly, the noise level is not overbearing. A wonderful selection of wines accompanied one of the most delicious meals we have ever had - from the special salad to the pasta to the meal ending chocolate mousse. The service was impecible and the owner, Julio, made sure we had a memorable celebration. So great to find this lovely place on the Lower East Side. Already planning our next visit here.

Excellent choice of Italian food. Good service, fair price. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone

We just returned from a trip to Sicily and had to return to this place which offers an authentic trattoria/osteria experience like you would find in Italy. We have been here many times and everything we tried keep us returning for more. Favorites are their grilled squid, bottarga spaghetti, sepia nero pasta, and meatballs. This is a small, intimate neighborhood place out of the tourist radar with very nice and welcoming owners. It's not about the turnover, they don't rush you even if the place is small. You will need a reservation if you want to dine at peak times. Although we have seen celebrities while dining here (Padma Lakshmi, Carolina Herrera), the prices are not expensive at all.

Small and cozy Italian wine bar and small plate restaurant that has charm, excellent service and possibly the best food I have ever had in an Italian restaurant. The dining experience does not feel like you are in a restaurant but in someone's home. THe only negative comment I could make was that there was no decaf coffee in the house. Otherwise, a food dream in NYC off the beaten path.

My wife and I have been to Italy eight times. She speaks fluent Italian. Her mother is from Trieste. We know good Italian food, and this place is the real deal. It’s the next best thing to being at a family restaurant in Italy. The dishes are unique, the ingredients are farm and Italy sourced. There’s no place I’d rather go in New York than Il Posto Accanto.

Very small place. Trendy, many just to grab a drink and some finger food. We bokked in advance and when we got there they gave us four stools and a smal bar table where the four of us managed to eat. The Manager/owner and staff were great and the food awesome and great wine options . We spent a wonderful farewell dinner though at the beginning we were very scheptical about it

Looking for something different for brunch - love Italian food? Il Posto Accanto is def a place to consider. Think eggs, panchetta, cheese, homemade pasta and “gravy.” In a myriad of combinations. Add a delicious bread basket and at $19 per person you did good. In fact, the food is so good, we plan to come back for dinner.

really nice authentic italian food - pasta was perfectly cooked, bruschetta was amazing, and seafood was deliciously fresh. super cute atmosphere too!

The devil side of me says, "keep this one all to yourself!" But the angel in me needs to say, "this is one of my favorite intimate Italian/wine bars in all of NYC!" The service is always personal - like they've known you for years. The ambience is perfect for a group of friends or a quiet date night. The food? You'll dream about it for days after. Fresh, homemade pastas, famous grilled calamari...all amazing small plates - perfect for sharing! I've turned so many friends on to this place that I'm afraid I'll never get in again. :)

This wonderful little wine bar and trattoria is going on over 20 years - making it a pioneer in what was once a fairly gritty neighborhood and an epic classic by NYC restaurant standards. The owners, husband Julio Pena and wife Beatrice Tosti, have created a haven - the perfect communal Italian kitchen for their ever-expanding extended family of clientele. Bea is from Rome, and the food is therefore not surprisingly Roman and Roman inspired. Indeed, all of the food is inspired. The basic menu consists of antipasti, pasta, and secondi which are excellent. However, the real treats at Bagatto are in the specials: antipasti, pasta, and secondi that are created fresh by Bea every day. Salads are always incredibly fresh and flavorful. Cheeses and salumi are imported from Italy, or homemade. The grilled calamari is amazingly delicate. Pastas sauced with homemade ragus, the “crackatelli” cavateli, handmade pastas with seafood, and the Sunday lasagna that is invariably sold out by 7:30 pm are mouth-watering. Simple grilled fish, spicy pork chops, couldn't be better. And the dessert list provides too many options, all of which are wonderful. Add to this an all-Italian wine list that is fairly-priced and includes some remarkable, rare selections and you have the perfect site for a weekly meal, particularly because the prices are incredibly reasonable. The atmosphere is intimate but lively. The decor is warm and inviting, romantic enough for a serious date while fun enough for a first date or a casual dinner. The restaurant is also very family-friendly. There is an unbelievably dedicated following of regulars who all seem to know one another because they actually do know each other due to Julio and Bea's incredible ability to introduce everyone to everyone. Brunch on Saturday and Sunday is particularly wonderful with spaghetti carbonara being the standout. This place simply is the best.

It was our first time here and we will be back! It is everything i wanted in a restaurant in NYC- no "scene", just cozy, warm, friendly and neighborhood-y, with fantastic shareable food and wine. From the painted tin celing, adorned with grape vines to the french doors to people watch. While it is small inside, you do not feel cramped at all. It is intimate and comfortable with candlelight, and you feel like you are all at once in a secret romantic hidwaway, but still in NYC. The food was DIVINE! Home made silky pastas, Roman dishes, wines for all budgets. I felt like i was dining on food my grandparents made and enjoyed every bite! The Owner, Julio, greeted EVERY person who came through the door with a hello/how are you. VERY welcoming and a very rare find in NYC. I can't say enough about this place, other than we will be back, that is for certain!

This place is terrible. it is all hype, but the food is terrible, and the service is even worse. very loud and super tight,

Really cute place with a romantic atmosphere. We started with a salad to share and then a creamy, lemony pasta with shrimp. A thinly sliced beef fillet with a garlic, rosemary sauce and topped with arugala was equally delicious. The portions were small but perfect for our appetites. The first red wine on the menu was a barbaresco priced at only $44 was excellent and a real bargain. I think this place is my new favorite Italian restaurant on the LES.

Stopped in here for a late lunch and met one of the owners and her staff, she's a doll, but more important is the food and service are exceptional. This is by far one of the best gems in New York, for authentic italian food. Sea urchin Pasta, cmon your killin me. The best, just the best. Make a reservation, always a good idea, but they will do their best to accommodate you. This is a no rush restaurant, this is like being in your favorite Italians mothers kitchen, at her table. The love and the food are the best

This is a cozy wine bar frequented by a Manhattan-based cousin, and we were blown away by how great the food is. My husband's parents were from Italy, so we know that cuisine -- and this just might have been the best Italian food we've ever had. Try to get the grilled calamari -- not on the menu, but tender and fantastic. Lasagna was creamy and exquisite, tortellini was fabulous, and that little fried sage leaf in the Fritto Misto might be my new favorite food. Don't leave before getting a Scroppino (lemon sorbet, vodka and prosecco)!

Outstanding gem of a place, worth visiting again and again. The decor is warm and welcoming, romantic and intimate. Staff knowledgeable and attentive. The food is truly the star, along with fantastic wine selection. I had hand crafted ricotta cavatelli with Italian sausage, mushrooms and peas, it was divine! My friends opted for tortellini stuffed with oxtail and beef steak tartare, both delicious. We also shared the burrata which was so good. Definitely coming back and soon! I need to continue exploring this menu...

Great "Della Nonna" Italian food with superb service. Vinicio and his crew made us feel right at home! Great wine selection and all small to mid sized plates, one of the best pastas we've tried in New York. We will go back as soon as we return to NY.

Il Posto is my little Paradise where the food is fresh every morning and oh so delicious, and made with love. Oh, and it is very authentic, high-end Italian. The company is what takes it over the top: Bea and Julio are people you will feel so lucky to know and fall in love with, and so is everyone who works there. Most of them have been there for decades, and the restaurant feels like their home, and they make us feel like family. A beautiful experience, every time.

Wow is pretty much what I have to say. Went for brunch last weekend and had the spaghetti bolognese. My family ordered bottles of wine. I met the chef and the owner who does the menu planning. I can tell you this place for me is the best ever Italian here in NYC with a bread basket that was freshly baked and delicious. Now, there is officially a replacement for Divino on the UES that sadly closed some years ago. Finally, my addiction satisfied!!
Incredible flavours
We spent three weeks in the U.S. - Chicago, Boston and NYC and this was hands down the best meal we had. Fresh homemade pasta, amazing flavours, a variety of dishes and some lovely wine. We sat at the bar and watched the staff happy in their work. It was truly an excellent meal.
