I’m Italian and I love good food. I’m also not vegan. We came here for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised to taste the delicious Mexican flavors in these creative twists on traditional dishes. Margaritas and guacamole were excellent! I had coconut “calamari” in a lettuce taco so satisfying.

Beautiful food, all of the menu vegan, long walk to restaurant but well worth it. Black lava rice bowl, and coconut queso quesadilla excellent. Unfortunately can't remember name of drink with almond milk cinnamon on ice was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit.

We loved it there: the food was excellent ( not your typical sad and boring vegan, but flavorful, yummy, crunchy and exciting! The atmosphere also was fun: playing salsa music in background, without being annoying; pretty bar area, casual restaurant, cute. And I repeat: the food was yum: The nachos with guacamole a tower of deliciousness. The chayote-fish tacos excellent. The sangria tasty and the vodka-cucumber cocktail refreshing and just the right mix. The waitress was attentive and sweet. Good service. Would def go back!

Jajaja was introduced to me by meat-eaters. This just proves vegans aren't "settling." You can eat well and ethically, until the animal consumption-industry pulls itself together. The energy and vibes of the staff are comfortable and fun. This is the best cheesecake, vegan or not. The pupusas are amazing. It's all good.

I don't care if you are vegan or not-this place is absolutely amazing. The flavors are incredible and the food is fresh and you feel good when you leave. We had tacos and quesadillas and the flavors were deep and nuanced. We also had a couple of mescal margaritas that were absolutely amazing - just the right amount of spice. The staff is friendly, helpful And are now our best friends

Warm lighting , natural wood and friendly personable staff are the finishing touches to a delicious, creative and healthy meal for us vegetarians/vegans or gluten free people! I can't wait to return!

Exceeded already high expectations Top preparation and service and we are not even Vegan. They were nice enough to give our credit card beforehand as we our Sabbath observers and we were staying on the LES for a basketball tournament. I cannot highly enough recommend.

This place was amazing. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was super tasty. We got ceviche with hearts of palm, tacos, pupusas and street corn. All the traditional Mexican flavors and cooking techniques are present, and about half the menu items were gluten free. I think the elotes and ceviche are not to be missed.

Every bite amazing. Vegan food can be meh- this rivals any Mexican restaurant around, vegan or not. I will be taking vegan and non-vegan friends here. Blew me away. Drinks delicious too. Worth every penny.

Excellent vegan food , good flavors and beautiful presentation. We try nachos with pico de Gallo , chorizo burrito and Pupusa. Wonderful. The restaurant is very clean. The service you have to try to believe .

A very good Mexican restaurant that I highly recommend! the setting is nice, the service professional and smiling and especially delicious dishes! Special mention for churros for dessert!

This place was so delicious. I highly recommend this place. Came in on a Wednesday and this place was packed! So many people here although the wait was not long at all. Great food an a large menu so everyone got their own dish. Although it was packed the service was amazing. I strongly recommend coming to this place if you are nearby.

i rolled into this mexican vegan restaurant in nyc's chinatown neighborhood several times but if you don't have blades, the F train stop at east broadway takes you right to the front door...there is a bar so you can order some mezcal should you wish to take the edge off...there are two booths and about ten small tables in this pleasingly trendy space which provides a nice ambience for lunch or dinner...and the bathroom is an audio and visual trip that needs to be experienced...oh and then there is the food...which is plant based zesty, tasty and satisfying...my go to meal was the rainbow chard bowl with a side of carnitas (spicy jack fruit that looks and tastes like meat)...and when the jack fruit is mixed into the bowl of swiss chard and corn, it is time for your taste buds to be doing cartwheels...and the nachos are to die for...but better to be shared so you won't be too full to enjoy an entree...there are many vegan restaurants in new york city to choose from, but after you dine at jajaja you will go hahaha if anybody tries to tell you that there is a better vegan restaurant in the big apple...

We stopped in for lunch and wow it was fabulous! It's tiny, with very close tables so we opted to sit at the bar which was perfect. They don't take reservations and it sounds like the wait on a weekend night could be well over an hour. Vladi, our server/bar tender was super great and we met one of the owners who was also warm and friendly. The food was just fabulous. We especially loved the nachos and the churros were outrageous!!!!! We will absolutely return. They are opening another one in the West Village in the spring that will be bigger and take reservations!

By far the best of five vegan places we went to on our last trip to NYC. I'm no vegan but I was down to give it try. Our waitress, Fee, was gracious in recommending other amazing vegan spots around town. Not too busy on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm and the meals arrived in a timely fashion. Clean, charming and stylish little place with indoor and outdoor dining. Nachos AND burritos were out of this world! A thousand times yes!

So many wonderful vegan food options to choose from! We had the nachos and tried the buffalo flower and chipotle sweet potato tacos. Amazing! Looked around at what other people were ordering and everything looked so delicious. We were there around dinner time so it got pretty busy. Wait staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Great experience! Can't wait to try more menu items!

This will change your mind on plant based mexican cuisine if all you have had is faux meat and fried mexican food combos. Great flavor. You dont leave feeling like u ate 90 pounds of fried items. Super tasty cocktails. Fun atmosphere. We didnt have reservation but grabbed bar seats. Dont miss this place if you want great tasting plant based foods.

This place never disappoints!! Crazy good guacamole and beet empanadas!!! Never had a bad dish there. Drinks are great as well

Got there by chance because we were booked somewhere else and had problems with our table. I just can say that this place made our night!!!! The combination of ingredients is just awesome and makes tasty dishes and very unexpected and creative mexican food. Loved the matcha Margarita, the tacos, the deserts and everything!!!!!!! and the staff were so nice. The owner was an amazing woman, very nice that explained me why the name "jajaja", that was super nice for a Spanish native speaker (this is the way we laugh in written language) This place won't disappoint you!!!! Amazing!

Loves the ambiance of this place! Really cute for date night or out with some friends! I must recommend getting the nachos, they are packed with flavor and you definitely get your money’s worth with this dish! I also tried some of their blended cocktails and they did not disappoint!! Over all a dope spot and I’d eat there again!

Despite you having amazing food, my friend and I received the worst service from you. We were seated in the back of the restaurant which felt a bit racial, I must say. We were never greeted by a server. I literally had to tap a nearby waitress to ask for service after twenty minutes of waiting and she looked a bit stunned. Mine you, other waiters were serving nearby patrons around us, but not us. The only difference was that they were White and we were not. We finally got our nachos and I had to get the attention of another waiter to order more drinks. It was ridiculous and I told the waitress who finally came up to us about our treatment. Mine you, she had no problem serving the White couple opposite us. And, to add injury to insult nothing was ever taken off our bill for waiting so long. Honestly, I'm sure they only had a waitress come over to serve us, because they wanted money at the end of the day. If you're African American and/or Black, I would re-consider going to this establishment. Mine you, my friend and I were the only Black people in the restaurant. Which is no excuse to this behavior or treatment and wanted to let others know before going to Jajaja. I was so disappointed by this service because I went before months ago. And, was so excited to get those nachos. But didn't receive such poor treatment at that time. However, this really made me feel a way. I kept apologizing to my friend since I recommended the place. But like I said, think twice about going here if you're African American or Black. Because this treatment was horrible.

Lovely...and I'm a carnivore! Bonus - very lovely staff and fabulous cocktails. Extra bonus - great value.

How often do you find a restaurant that you just know you have to return to, that you want to try EVERYTHING on the menu and that the prices won’t break the bank. Jajaja is this restaurant. My friend had been there once before and was so excited to take me. Vegan Mexican food. We waited 10 minutes for a table in that time we chatted with two lovely ladies who told us their favourite dishes and that’s what we ordered. I’m not saying what the6 were as EVERYTHING looked amazing. We were totally stuffed at the end of the meal and couldn’t believe when the bill only came to $44.00. You MUST eat here, if I have the chance to go again whilst in NY I definitely will.

Visiting for a week, I hadn't had any really amazing food that NY is known for...but meeting my vegan friend here, was THE BEST experience! Delicious food, but moreover, the service was so SO attentive. I will definitely visit next time I come back!

In New York for our honeymoon from the UK and looked up Vegetarian restaurants nearby and this gem popped up. Not only was the food really fresh and tasty, but the staff were so friendly (which is rare having been to other restaurants) It was really busy, but they explained how long the wait would be and offered to put us up at the bar. The bar man was wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. The margaritas were a show stopper and the buffalo cauliflower tacos were to die for. I can't stop thinking about them. When we come back to New York, this will be our first food stop. Thank you!

Very good plant based food—had nachos and street corn both excellent , nice atmosphere I would go back.

We were staying nearby this summer. We were playing rock music later that night so we didn't want to eat food that would make us sleepy. This place is happy. The vegan food was excellent. We had such a good time the waitress gave us more food on the house. The service was a 10. It is cozy table seating but no one seemed to mind. Nice park and stores nearby while we waited for a text that our table was ready. We are going to come back too.

Watched a video on a YouTube channel (brothers eat green) before going to NY where they interviewed the owner of JaJaJa and so we had to plan a visit whilst there for a Christmas break. One of the best places we ate during our stay! Cockatails, food, staff and atmosphere all amazing. I neeeeed the recipe for the pomegranate tequila cocktail!

My friend, a carnivore, and I, a vegan, had Dinner at JaJaJa. We started off with an order of nachos which were excellent. I had the Crispy Chayote Fish Taco as a main and my friend had a Mezcal Mushroom Taco. We both liked our mains. For dessert we both had vegan flan which was excellent.

Our dinner at Jajaja was outstanding! Our waitress Victoria made recommendations to order the nachos and they were amazing . The best that I have had . I was pleasantly surprised that it was vegan. The food and drinks were great . We were so happy that we found this place . I would definitely recommend and come back again ! Dessert was fantastic too. Ok

Had an amazing lunch at Jajaja! Cute restaurant (even the bathrooms are adorable). Food delicious! Brunch tacos and vegan ceviche was fabulous. Beet and pumpkin empanada was excellent as well. So many great choices on the menu. We are planning our next trip to NYC to eat here. I didn't get the nachos, but I saw them on my way out, and it looks like a "must" try.

This place serves all vegan Mexican food. It’s right next to the E Broadway subway station, so great for public transportation. I got the nachos with added guac, which was great, the burrito which was also good, and a dessert pie that was not on the menu and contained pistachios, ginger, carrots and a few other things I don’t remember and was lovely. I recommend this place to vegans and non-vegans alike.

I stopped in for Sunday brunch with some friends. We arrived around 11:30am and were seated immediately at a cosy little corner table for 3. The venue itself is really fresh and vibrant and the staff were super helpful. Our server was super helpful, explained some of the highlights of the menu, and gave his best recommendations. The food came out pretty quickly, and was fresh, interesting and above all, tasty. The server's recommendations were spot on, and I will certainly be back to try some more of the menu, and taste some of the cocktails from the menu!

Recently opened, I had the Enchiladas Mole and one of their cocktails with smokey mescal and pineapple. Delicious! Excellent mole sauce! Not a vegan or vegetarian so miss having meat. Decor is eclectic, but I like the raised floor table setup in the bar half. Will be back to try more flavors but it is expensive for no meat!

Wow. We left Jajaja so happy! It's so very delicious. We were visiting NYC for the weekend, and ate our way around the city, and this was one of our favorite meals! So many options and everything we ordered was amazing. The vibe is great too- super cute decor, great music, and excellent service. Can't wait to go back!

I went with my mother to the restaurant and I loved the food. I took off one star because the staff was unengaging, and alittle unorganized, the person taking our orders did not really check in and had bit of an attitude, the other person working that day made up alittle for it. The drinks are average, I probably wouldn’t get them if I were to go again, but would def come back for the food. The seating is also very close and personal to the table next to you which I kinda didn’t like. The wait for the food is a bit long, but it’s worth it for what you will eat. I disliked the rice the came as a side for my dish.

This is the only Mexican restaurant in NYC for normal people that I know. There is no containation here with dead / killed animals. This was my second time and as good as the first, except the wait. It is a very small place and the wait can be horrendous. However, if you willing to sit at the bar, the wait is shorter. The empanadas are out of the world. So was the chilled melon gazpacho soup. Consistent with NYC pricing, everything is expensive.

Absolutely loves this place ! What an amazing combo of authentic Mexican food vegan style. You will not be missing the meats at all. Beautiful decorated, cozy & friendly. Staff was great. Menu is broad and delicious. Drinks are to die for. Highly recommend it.

Great little place with a really good vibe. My favorite was the guac with green peas. To the half swedish waiter. Tack saa mycket!

As a vegan and Mexican food lover, this place is to die for. Everything is vegan - the food is fresh, tasted great, and well-priced, The service was quick & friendly, and the restaurant is nicely furnished in a Mexican style. If we lived in NY, we'd go back often!

Started eating plant based only a few months ago and was so happy to find JAJAJA wandering through the lower east side in NYC. The chef must be a magician. My burrito was possibly one of the best I have had- smothered in 3 diff sauces and completely spicy and delish.. I literally love burritos and am a burrito addict. SO so So good and to think its all vegan! We also tried the empanada- beet and pumpkin I think. Anyway I will for sure be back- great service- great music- awesome food and terrific vibe!

one of my favorite vegan spots in Manhattan, but only three stars because some of it can be very heavy and the nachos are impossible to order without them being soggy ... however, love the cocktails and gosh the quesadilla though - AMAZING.

Totally amazing vegan Mexican food. If you have nothing else, start with the nachos. The coconut quest quesadilla and the chipotle sweet potato tacos are not to be missed.

I got the cauliflower tacos and the explosion of flavors, diversity of textures and overall deliciousness made it the most beautiful experience. The service is lovely and the place is gorgeous. Go there and have tacos, you will not regret it.

The food tastes so go that you can bring all your non vegan friends. The variety in spices, textures, and colors. Great cocktails. Great staff. Small place, not easy for groups larger than 4- 6 Some dishes are not only vegan but gluten free. The location is easily accessible. It is right on the F line (exit East Broadway)

İt was a lovely place to eat delicious mexician vegan food. And also servers are very kind and smiley. Very peaceful place to go.

I think eating at jajaja is going to turn out to be a tradition meaning I’ll eat there every time I’m in NY As previously, the food is excellent and portions just too big. An annoying US problem is serving the next course whilst you’re still eating the course. Exactly what happened at jajaja today. I find it rude and it also means you are under pressure to finish the meal even when you have all the time in the world. Another suggestion I have for this restaurant is a taster menu. Everything on the menu looks so delicious and I’d love to try them all.

Great food, decor and service. The food was very clean- Lots of vegan places use too much oil, not here. Recommend the tacos and don’t skip the desserts!

Hands down the best nachos I've ever eaten, exceptionally good tacos too. Service was friendly and we felt very welcome.

This is a tiny gem of a plant-based Mexican place. Sadly, because I waited a bit to write our review, we can’t remember exactly what we ate for our main courses. We do remember they were tasty and just the right size. What we definitely remember is the churros. Oh. My. Goodness. They are worth every stinkin’ carb and calorie! I’d actually say it’s worth a trip to Jajaja just for the churros.

Visited for lunch, last year when we tried to visit at dinner but the wait was 2 hours. We ordered about 6 different dishes so we could try as much as we could. Everything was fresh and delicious. Some of the best Mexican I've ever had. those nachos!!!! WOAH!!! We felt spoiled by both the excellent food and the wonderful attentive service. We'll be back!!!!!

Amazing food, great vibes and music, comfy place. It feels like home and it is amazingly delicious! In my 14 days of New York, I went in Jajaja 5 times! Thanks Jajaja, after discovering u, I eat only vegan. I recommed kale salad and vegan hamburger!

This is a great place to enjoy very tasty vegan food in a casual environment. They also have an extensive tequila selection.

Found it hard to believe the nachos with ‘cheese’ was vegan, was such a flavourful dish! The ‘buffalo’ cauliflower was also very tasty. Came here for lunch, service was excellent. My meat eating partner also demolished his meal without a complaint so must have been good!

Words cannot capture the quality of their food or drinks. It must be experienced - PERIOD. Put this spot on the top of your list and make it happen. You will not be disappointed.

tbh, I don't eat out too much, as a vegetarian. when i do, it's usually to accomodate someone else, so i wind up with pasta or some after thought veg. dish. Not at jajaja: it's all about the vegans. But what's best about this place is that the food just tastes great, no matter if you are vegetarian, vegan or carnivore. service is friendly and apropos of the environment. drinks are unique and great

The title says everything except this review is for the Carmine St location. Service was good and food was good. You couldn’t talk because the music was to loud. They must have had a door open in the basement as the cold air kept blowing up the stairwell. I probably would not go back. It was not a pleasant lunch experience and the food wasn’t that special to ignore the music and cold air.

This restaurant seems to follow a trend of NYC places of not specifically stating on the menu that it's all vegan (which can be confusing when you see terms like 'sour cream' written down without quotes or anything suggesting that it isn't dairy) - but it IS all vegan. And delicious too! The decor was charming and fun to look at. The tables themselves were quite intimately packed in - we were there at a not-so-busy time, but I imagine you might feel a little like you were sitting with the people next to your own table. For a main meal lunch, we shared a bowl of nachos, followed by sweet potato tacos for me, and finished off with churritos. We also took home some Mexican wedding cookies - because why not! Each dish had an interesting twist - for example, each taco was of a different type (turmeric taco, flax seed and blueberry tortilla, tomato & beet tortilla..).The food was flavourful and authentic, and just about the right size to really fill you up. The food felt like authentic Mexican flavours too, rather than an americanised version.

Mexican vegan fare is hard to find, and probably harder to prepare. Pre-vegan years I used to judge a place by their Mole and/ or Rellenos. These are both screamingly great concoctions here, beyond my greatest expectations. Wait staff great also.

While there are less vegetarian and vegan options in New York than I expected, this was a really nice place to go. The food was good and can be recommended but the dessert we had was outstanding. The churritos with coconut dulce de leche were so delicious, that they are still popping up in my mind days later. I'd be going back for them every day if I wouldn't be thousands of kilometres away by now.

I read an article about Jajaja being the place to go for vegan food in NYC and boy was it right...this place was awesome. The vibe from the minute we walked in was incredibly relaxed and welcoming, the staff were beyond friendly and the menu looked fantastic. In the end we went for nacho's and a Mexican styled dish ... both were supremely tasty. Very responsibly priced too. If you're eating in NYC anytime soon, get a table booked asap. 🇺🇸🥑🥗🥙🧀🍷

We went to this restaurant knowing it was vegan and being skeptical that it was going to be good. It was delicious! No food was left on any plates!

We ordered takeout from Jajaja for our family of four, and I want to especially compliment Daniella who helped us. She could not have been more pleasant and efficient in making sure we got just what we wanted. She found plenty of gluten-free options for us. Moreover, all of the food was delicious: nachos, guacamole, bowls, tacos, and enchiladas!

Best vegan Mexican food. Awesome service. They are always crowded but they are able to manage well. Their cocktails and mock tails are yumm. Lemonade Agave drink is awesome. Tacos with beans and cauliflowers and avocados.. out of this world.

My family surprised me with a visit to an all vegetarian Mexican restaurant. I was happy to see a variety of items in the menu as I am used to see only 2 or 3 vegetarian items in a typical Mexican Restaurant. The Nachos were good with a spicy taste and was very different from a standard Nachos dish. Verde Enchiladas, Enchiladas Mole, Eggplant Torta, Chayote Taco were some of the items we relished.

went back a second time, and even though with COVID we had to sit outside, and the outside space is not as charming, the food is as delicious, so all worth it. loved every bite. the guacamole was delicious. the cauliflower tacos were crisp, a tiny-bit too spicy, but crispy and just great. and the two waiters were so sweet and attentive. oh! and the hot chocolate was really yummy (a must in cold weather (nt the weathered down version, but the thickened real thing mexican version) trust me on that one, go ahead and order it. delish!

I'm not a vegetarian or a Vegan, but my son is. JaJaJa just opened up in the West Village and I thought we'd give it a try. Their cocktails are amazing and every cocktail can be made into a mocktail! The menu is diverse and plenty of your favorite Mexican items are on it. If you didn't tell me it was vegan, I wouldn't have known. Food is great, Service is great and the cocktails are amazing. Go! You'll enjoy it!

My daughter & I had a late lunch at this delightful Vegan cafe. It was off hours & wasn't crowded so service was as fantastic as the food. I include photos of the turmeric cauliflower rice and the black lava rice bowl. Fantastic!!!

Mexican food is our absolute favorite, but it's often impossible to find anything for vegans to eat at most Mexican restaurants. Enter Jajaja - a TOTAL game changer for Mexican-loving vegans. In the middle of our meal, I turned to my wife and literally said, "This might just be the best food of any kind I have ever tasted!" Really - it's that good. We are both long-time vegans, and believe me, we are intimately familiar with the trials and tribulations of finding good vegan food. Things are changing incrementally, but Jajaja must be lauded as a true pioneer that has brought things to a whole new level. And I must add that of our party of six, only two of us were vegans, and one a vegetarian. No one went home hungry or felt the food was a taste compromise - everyone was just delighted. Last is the vibe of this restaurant - SO happening!

The location on TripAdvisor says downtown/east side but this new place is in west village. Great bar! Innovative drinks, excellent mezcal list. Apps.

I went with friends late on a saturday night and we had to wait approx 20min to get a table. Food was excellent, every one of us loved their dish (I recommend the turmeric cauliflower rice) and we loved their cocktails as well. Service was not so friendly though.

Mexican is one of those cuisines that you simply skip when you are a vegan because the vegan version is typically not very good. Jajaja is a HUGE exception to the rule! Everything is delicious and flavorful. They have a convenient "to go" door of the restaurant if you want to grab something for take out. Highly recommend!

As the name Jajaja (roughly pronounced Hahaha) conveys, the restaurant has a light, friendly tough, but the food is uncompromisingly excellent accompanied by creative, delicious cocktails. Ingredients are fresh. Seating is crowded but comfortable amongst other diners savouring the experience. Staff are friendly. I loved the mole on the enchilada. Would return again and again to try everything on the menu. The food here is genuine (vegan) Mexican, not the US "TexMex" variant so ubiquitous in the USA. A must visit for true foodies.
Omg best food!!
We had lunch at jaja today and it was so good. I had cauliflower bowl which was the tasty dish I’ve eaten there was sweet potatoes, aubergine, sauce & so much more. Followed this with churritos which were also amazing!! Even the guacamole was awesome. We came out of east broadway station and didn’t realise the restaurant was right there - we walked past it twice!! Definitely recommend
