We recently stopped by this little restaurant for lunch. At first we were intrigued by the fact that it is called Jeffrey's Grocery. However the food is the main draw with well prepared dishes. They also offer a good selection of locally brewed beer.

Small, trendy restaurant with great food & staff. Got there with a party of 5 on a busy Friday night, and they fit us right in at the bar. Bartender gave us first class service. Try the lobster spaghetti.

This place is amazing, the service sucks big time BUT the food is delicious everything on the menu is amazeballs even the amuse bouche was delicious the steak is to die for and the seafood spaghetti is super and ended it with the flour less chocolate cake!!! Its heavenly

I arrived at Jeffreys at 4:30 on January 28th. I’ve eaten here several times with my white boyfriend several times. The service and the food were always impeccable. But today was different. I arrived solo. The surly woman hostess queried “what would you like here today?” I pointed all the white people eating abd drinking and said “I would like to eat and drink just like all these other people “. “Hold up “ she intoned “It doesn’t work like that. We are on a limited menu. Raw oysters only. “. I said “ that sounds great to me”. She seemed disappointed a d growled. I was seated near the alcove where she sta de and I was forced to hear her laugh and shout obscenities with the bar tender. The overall intent, I felt, was to make me feel unwelcomed. I eat in restaurants all over the world. I’m 6”4’ and black. Im a professional. I was dressed well yet she made me feel as though I looked homeless. The bar tender was lovely and the oysters from New Brunswick were delicious. Why must I have a white person with me to be treated well at this establishment ?

Excellent! I recommend fish and ship’s. Everything is fresh, simple and efficient! Do not hesitate to come with family or friends

I went here with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed it! We stumbled upon this place when we were looking for a nice place for drinks and a small bite! After the first dish that we shared, we ordered 2 more because the food was so great! Fresh, simple but smart and really good ingredients!

I recently went to Jeffrey's with friends and the experience was really fun. The food was very good. I particularly enjoyed the Escargot Toast with Chicken confit and the beet salad with a great Cheverny blanc. We really had a great time!

On a Saturday evening this place was just buzzing. Luckily the four of us were able to sit at the bar where we were really looked after by the barman - plus he invented a cocktail for one of our party. Two of us shared ½ doz grilled oysters and the duck rillette toast - really delicious. The mussels and the chowder also received good verdicts. As usual in NY eateries the wine is expensive, but cocktails are good value.

We went here for brunch, don't leave it to late... It's a popular place. The bloody Mary with beer chaser was nice and spicy, and followed by the Braised Brisket Sandwich which I've never had like it. Do try it. You can't reserve a table, but if your before the rush no problem. The bar also has seats and everyone is so friendly so no problem going alone to indulge.

Went to this restaurant for Brunch with a friend. It's that popular we had to wait, but it was worth it. It's very rustic and not very big, but this adds to the ambience as it was buzzing in there with the chic 'young' things of NY. We started with a lovely mimosa. As there was a good menu choice we decided to the share our main courses: i) waffles with berries, maple syrup and cream with a side of crispy bacon ii) spring vegetable hash. Both dishes were delightful, I wish I had them both as a main course and dessert! Best pancakes I've had in a long time. Fluffy and well married with the maple syrup, cream and bacon. The potatoes in the vegetable hash were crispy and tasty with perfectly cooked poached eggs. I have one tip: don't share these dishes even with loved ones to do them and yourself due justice. Fast, friendly service and a good wine list. I would recommend a trip here when you're in the big Apple.

I've visited this place twice. I initially discovered it accidentally and the fact that I returned there for more shows how much I liked it during my first visit. Although I was there only for some oysters and wine, I really enjoyed the casual, relaxed atmosphere, the absence of a loud crowd, the friendly yet nonintrusive service, and the variety of oysters to choose from. A great midday break.

Good casual restaurant. Fairly limited choice of food but I had oysters then lobster roll. Can’t go wrong there. Nice vibe and friendly staff.

We go here before 6pm when it is quiet and there are $1 oysters. After 6pm the price shoots up. Generally a small menu, but the food is really good. Bartenders are serious and knowledgeable and the staff is warm and friendly. It's a small place so we love being there during the lull.

Jeffrey's could be a great place, with pretty good food, cocktails, and so on. Unfortunately they became complacent and the service is not what you would expect. Avoid it!

Well, my review "title" says it all -- the brunch was really quite good (though not superb), the service was friendly and helpful and the setting was fun. Very close to the iconic Stonewall Tavern and the subway stop at Sheridan Square. I'd go back!

Great place to sit at the bar and enjoy seafood and a cocktail. I had the clam starter which was fantastic. But don't get it if you don't like garlic.

After lunch at another restaurant and a walk on the High Line we headed off through the West Village via Gansevoort street and on down into teens to 10th street and stumbled upon Jeffrey’s. The decor is old farm grocery store meets New York and our intention was to have an early evening nosh and proceed to dinner. This is a small place that has staff with a relaxed yet professional demeanor and a great little menu. I watched as the hostess made each and every party comfortable and welcome despite a large Labor Day crowd. This is a small joint and the servers worked well together to provide great service. We had a lovely nosh of oysters and fresh anchovy crostini with avocado and preserved lemon, a delicious combination. Add a little Gruner Veltliner, rose and beer and sparking conversation and you have an excellent experience. I loved the Skookum and Beau Soleil oysters which were fresh and by far our favorites. This was a wonderful find on our walk and a great little west side gem.

We got here bit by chance and were happily surprised. It was the oyster happy hour and boy, they were good. Also the kooky and delicious drinks are worth trying.

It's not cheap, but totally worth the foodie experience. We sat at the bar next to the kitchen so we got to watch the Olympic-like athleticism going into the cooks making the food. We tried a little bit of everything. From the interesting cocktails (the Bloody Mary no. 20 was a favorite) to the BEST pancakes ever, it was all delicious. Highly recommend the pancakes , latkas, and the sweet potato bites.

What a great find! Great place with local cuisine. The kitchen is right in the restaurant and the chef walks around to talk to guests. The service was excellent, very friendly and quick to explain all the ingredients and provide recommendations. I had the oysters and the lamb followed by a sharing of fun desserts. Drinks were great as well!

We came in just before closing time and no problem at all. Food and wine were great. Just 4 stars only because of loud music.

I stayed this weekend in NYC and a friend of me recommended this place. So on Saturday afternoon the uber dropped me of and I got a place at the bar. I was lucky because the place was crowded and I had no reservation. All the oysters are fantastic - you can make a choice of 6 different oysters. In combination with a nice glass of white wine and good conversation with the bar lady it was a great experience. Service is excellent, people are nice and the location is great. A place I can recommend for oyster fans.

Was walking in the area searching for a place to eat during my last business trip to NY, saw this place, they had table available, so had dinner. Selection of the place was completely random, and must say that experience was excellent. Great atmosphere, friendly service, great food, well served and very tasty. Definitely a very positive surprise.

Monkfish was our favourite, the white wine selection was really good and we‘ve got a frindly environment together with the good food.

Friendly staff, really good wines by the glass, lovely shrimps. Any time or day drinks or food always right!Warmly recommended.

We stopped there for lunch and we had some single sea food portions to share only, so we didnt order separately. Everything was delish and all but we left spending 175$ for 2 meals, some fries and two glasses of wine. In Europe we call this expensive...definitely not for every pocket but the serving was good and we didnt wait at all- so we left happy.

We came here to celebrate our friends 30th birthday and had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic, particularly the seafood platter which was unbelievably fresh. It was the first time I had dared to try a raw oyster and it won't be the last! The service was great, really friendly and our server recommended a wonderful (affordable) wine. Prices were reasonable for such great food - I would go out of my way to go back here on a future visit.

After attending an early morning Yoga class in the park (Washington Square Park), I decided to find a place for breakfast. My search was best breakfast places near me and after much consideration, settled on this place. I had the goat cheese omelette (picture included). The omelette was made to perfection. It was airy, soft and filled with roasted peppers and pieces of fresh asparagus. Really delicious. So why a 4? I like my food hot, and it was not.

Managed to show up when the restaurant wasn't busy...yay! Our waiter was so friendly and helpful. The bloody mary with a beer chaser was good. Avocado toast with a small side salad was exactly what I hoped it would be. Lattes were well executed, too. Great music playing on their sound system (thank goodness no Hall & Oates, which we actually heard at TWO other places on this trip. nothing against H & O, but seriously...two different places were playing them...). Quintessential NYC neighborhood place. You should go there!

Super delicious fish and seafood restaurant. Visited 2 times. For dinner, I have a delicious spicy tuna tartare and a super nice lobster roll. Also dropped by by chance another day when there was oyster Happy Hour. Can really be recommended. Attentive and lovely friendly service. But remember to book a table as it is a popular place

Really loved it here - great wine, great food. Cute bathroom (is that weird? It has fish wall paper though!) and in a great location if you’re in the West village!

Very good value for money if you go for their caviar and oyster offer. Very nice staff and relaxed atmosphere. Real nice neighborhood gem.

Go here if you're looking for a great brunch on a lazy Sunday!! Wait staff are very friendly, the meals are great value and very tasty, and there are lots of side options on the menu. Something for everyone! Will be back!

Small restaurant built round a bar area. Sat at the bar and the bar man was very knowledgable about the menu whilst coping easily with the alcohol demands from the stream of customers. Busy and noisy but simple food cooked really well. Highly recommend .

Lovely location and super nice staff but 20$ for a plain salads with tuna is over the top to me. Great the oysters (3.75$ each) and the wine (glass from 13$) Menu with a very small list of plates to choose from

The food is good Drinks well made Solid but small wine list Service is great They seem to find room for one and all

We were impressed by the service. Somehow our reservation wasn't changed correctly on OpenTable, but the staff graciously worked it out and accommodated us. Thank you! Fun menu and wine list. Very friendly, upbeat environment. Excellent food too---salmon, fries, seafood all delicious. Worth a visit.

Had two utterly different experiences at Jeffrey's in the space of one week. On the first evening, arrived with my husband and had a pleasant experience - it was incredibly warm (no aircon) but the cocktails were great, the food nice enough and our waiter (Wils) was very hospitable. They promote their Oyster Happy Hour from 4-6pm and I was keen to return! So I called in about 5.45 on the Friday evening, having been at a conference for 5 long days.. I was really looking forward to a treat of fresh oysters and a cold glass of wine - perhaps I made a mistake telling the waiter this.. The place was buzzy, but there were stools at the bar by the kitchen and half a dozen empty small tables near the rear. I couldn't understand why I was then made to wait inside the door for what felt like an interminable amount of time. Another young woman arrived, waited beside me, was never approached and walked out. After 15 mins I approached the waiter and advised him that I was feeling very awkward and would appreciate being seated. He seated me at the bar and told me the barman would attend me for drinks. He didn't. By this time it was 6.10pm - I reiterated that I just wanted some fresh oysters and a wine and was advised that the Happy Hour offer was no longer available. Couldn't believe it... at this point I felt quite upset and left. I can only think that this waiter took some vicarious pleasure in being offhand and that they had little interest in serving single customers (or women..?) I should have asked to speak to the manager but was too hot and weary to bother.. Unfortunately this experience at Jeffrey's tainted my memories of a week in NYC.

We went at Jeffrey's Grocery during our honeymoon in NYC. we recommend: the great lobster, the excellent clam chowder, the superb chocolate cake. Last but not least: I hope that you will be welcomed by the same waiter we met there. He was gentle and attentive, and suggested us a lot of good dishes and wines.

This is one of those places where locals go because it is so good. I had a salmon benedict which was the best eggs benedict I have ever had. Others in our party were also impressed. My wife thought the egg sandwich was amazing and the potato latkers were out of this world. There are some interesting drinks on the menu. Wine selection is small but just what you need. Excellent service. Highly recommended.

I had read about this place in the Lonely Planet guide to NYC and liked the sound of it. We stumbled upon it whilst meandering around Greenwich and decided to have lunch here. Staff were friendly and efficient and easy going. Food was fresh and tasty and the ambience and decor very pleasing. If I lived in Greenwich, which I would, happily! This would be a regular eatery for memon a lazy weekend.

Excellent... delicious... wonderful place... enjoyed oysters and drinks all great ... really nice local tavern and great vibe...

I was due to take a walking tour of Greenwich Village and wanted something to eat beforehand. Not knowing the area at the time, I happened to come across Jeffrey's Diner, and thought it looked promising. I'm very glad my instincts were proved right! I do have a passion for seafood, and it turns out that this restaurant specialises in dishes of this type. I was very impressed by my lobster roll, which tasted fresh and was actually quite filling. The extremely pleasant waiters were very attentive (but not overly so) and went the extra mile by giving me a drink I'd requested that wasn't actually on the menu! My only gripe is I'm on holiday here and not a local - if I was, Jeffrey's would definitely be seeing an awful lot of me on a regular basis!

We ate for our New year's Eve at Jeffrey's. Pre-fixed dinner with crab salad, halibut, excellent fish. The also offered us an appetizer with oysters and salmon. Very high-quality cuisine, we loved every single thing. They have also excellent wines. The place is very nice and friendly and the staff is great, very nice guys. Then we were at the bar waiting midnight with them drinking excellent cocktails. That was a very nice way to spend our New Year's Eve far from chaotic midtown. West village is lovely and definitely our favourite part of Manhattan.

Wandered upon this place while walking through the West Village. Had a great time. Casual/fun feel and very good food.

Where to start. 3 people out of 4 show up for a 9:00 reservation and are told we have to wait until 4th arrives even though table is vacant and no one else is waiting. Later maître d hands us a drink menu, at which point I have to negotiate that we want to order a bottle of wine, if we can sit down. Since place was almost empty when we left there could not have been a later reservation, so why the hassle. I ordered dozen oysters on half shell which took 1 hour to arrive with no explanation. Entrees arrived in three waves with sides to follow again with no explanation or apology. Will not be going back. Food was ok but nothing special. Way overpriced.

Made a pit-stop here on a hot day in Greenwich Village and decided to take on a selection of oysters and some Narragansett Beer. The oysters were excellent and the beer suitably chilled. It wasn't cheap but the quality was good. The place is like a converted grocery store and has a nice atmosphere, too.

A warm welcome to accomodate our group of nine guest, an excellent service & food ! All this in a beautiful area of New York. So great time dinner at Jeffrey’s ! Many thanks ! Olivier, Paris

Found the place by accident whilst looking for lunch. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food wash fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. The whole place had a real buzz about it

Jeffrey's is a lovely small restaurant/bar in West Village. We had the most amazing lunch with oysters and champagne. Highly recommended!

I had lunch at the bar this past weekend around 2 PM. This is a tiny place but since I was a single I was able to squeeze into a seat at the end of the bar. I had a great Bloody Mary- very spicy, and ordered the crab grilled cheese, a decent enough sandwich which came with very good thin/crispy french fries and a fried green tomato. The bartender was friendly, and the place had a very lively atmosphere filled with 20-somethings enjoying their Sunday afternoon. My main issue was the value of my meal. It cost $26 for the sandwich, which given the amount of crab and size of the sandwich was way too expensive and the reason I knocked the rating down to average. I'm not sure that I'd repeat.

I visited this place with my colleagues for a breakfast. Once we entered, we were immediately seated by a fantastic colleague. She was so friendly and professional. The restaurant had a such a great atmosphere. The food was delicious. I had a yogurt with coffee. And my colleagues ordered various dishes - pancakes, avocado sandwich and more. The presentation and the taste of the food was so great. Absolutely loved the place.

I really liked Jeffrey's. It's laid back vibe, great drinks & the freshest seafood in West Village. The mixed sampler platters are incredible. Can't wait to go back !

Cozy intimate space-real find is this charming neighborhood. Excellent raw bar, whole fish expertly prepared. I would go out of my way to return. Lovely experience.

The only thing better than the food is the service (& cocktails). Just like its sister Joseph Leonard across the street, the entire experience - food, ambiance & value - is fantastic.

Fabulous fresh cocktails in a cool totally hip village bar. Everything is hand made muddled and poured. Cool music and brick and wood decor complete the ambiance. A must for a pit stop.

Rude personal. We are coming for brunch and coffe and they are really rude on the doors so we leave.. next money bussines place

Jeffrey's is a very good, enjoyable place for lunch or brunch, particularly on a weekend, with good people watching and a good "vibe". All of the food is very good -- but the Raw Bar offerings are particularly outstanding. Their oysters are some of the freshest and best I have had in NY -- with a constantly rotating choice of East Coast and West Coast varieties. The Seafood Plateaus -- with oysters, clams, shrimp, and crab legs -- make a wonderful lunch to share for 2, 3, or 4 people. The waitstaff is very friendly and eager to please.

Exploring Greenwich Village on foot we dropped in purely by chance for a midday meal. It full but the staff managed to find us a place. The meal was excellent as was the ambiance. A high point was the friendliness of the staff who made us welcome. We really enjoyed the food - so much so that any return visit to NYC will include a return to Jeffrey's.

Loved this place!!! The food was delicious. The restaurant is small and cozy, and very busy. Staff is friendly and efficient. Did I say how delicious everything was? Good wine selection. Super clean restroom... Will come back!!!

Was great to sot and just be in a spot that did not make you feel as if U needed to hurry up and go. Bartender had some humor.

While exploring the Village, we came across Jeffrey's Grocery where we went in for a light lunch. We really enjoyed it. Nice, friendly atmosphere. Great New England clam chowder and brussels sprouts.

We went to Jeffrey's after having dinner at Amelie, just around the corner. Atmosphere at Jeffrey's is dark and mystifying which is perfect for a late night drink. We sat at the bar and ordered the Farewell Hollywood cocktail and the Spring Fling. Both drinks were absolutely delicious. Bar tender was a definite wizard in mixology. We also had some oysters and a lobster cocktail which was very tasty. Very recommended! We were even treated for a free shot :)

NO AIR CONDITIONING! (Just a warning) We were a party of 3 in mid-August and it was freakin HOT. All doors and windows open, ugh! We had to wait way too long just for drinks, very slow service here. When we finally got our order my friends Sea Bass was like rubber. He could not even cut it. Was sent back. The waitress used a fork and took it off my friends plate and left the veggies, seriously! My Brisket Sandwich was pretty good. The second order of Sea Bass arrived but was the same, rubbery, uneatable. He ordered something else, obviously unmemorable. When I waited for the restroom I noticed that all the food was cooked on hotplates, seriously? No wonder the Sea Bass wasn't cooked properly. When I want local seafood again I will definitely stick to Pearl around the corner, I love it there and they don't use hot plates! They have an oven!

Ambiance, service and food all excellent! Immediately became our goto brunch venue . Evening meal was some of the best food I've eaten. Lobster bisque and seafood starters were superb. And the hanger steak mains likewise. Highly recommended. Seriously.

Great little brunch spot in the West Village. Not cheap and portions were on the smaller side, but the food tasted good and was high on quality. The $15 bloody mary was small and served in a rocks glass, and I would have preferred a pint glass and no beer chaser. One drink and a meal per person will cost about $85 (including the tip) per couple.

Had some chowder which was excellent. Was less enthralled with the crispy squid but my server noticed and rectified the situation beautifully. The squid was fine, just not what I had hoped for. So high marks for quality and even higher marks for service.

The food here is reliably excellent! Oysters and creative cocktails, and everything else, too. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

We have eaten here before for Sunday brunch. We had a Brunch platter with all types of smoked fish, scrambled eggs with caviar, bagels, toast. The presentation was terrific and it was more than we could eat. The service is always fun and the sound level is bearable. Its small but we love the location on a quiet street in the Village only a couple of blocks from Washington Sq Park. Very convenient to subways. Everytime we are in NYC we have Sunday brunch here. The manager even came by and wished me a Happy Birthday. We orginally found this restaurant on a Infiniti Car commercial a few years ago. It looked cute so we googled it and I have never been sorry I came to Jeffreys Grocery.

We had a very nice brunch here, very good service and friendly staff. Pancakes were amazing. Another nice visit to this place that never disappoints

Assume this was a grocery store at one time.. More like a Brooklyn haunt. Cozy, crowded, and rustic. We did not have reservations on a Saturday for lunch but got the last table just before noon. So go early or reserve. Fantastic service. We had the barley bowl, cheeseburger, and avocado salad. The burger was outstanding. Damages with tip and drinks was $90. A nice relaxing meal.

The host at this restaurant needs training. He is more interested in talking with his friends and feeding them drinks. The food is nothing to write home about and over priced. Too bad, the restaurant could be wonderful if someone paid attention to business.

My teenage son and I popped in Jeffrey's as we made our way across Greenwich Village in a downpour. The cozy atmosphere and charming staff couldn't have made for a more welcome contrast to the foul weather outside. We were lucky enough to arrive during Oyster Happy Hour. I enjoy seeking out good oysters when I travel, and Jeffrey's oysters were both exceptionally tasty and a great value. Our entrees were also delicious. I can't wait to get back to this welcoming neighborhood restaurant the next time we're in New York.

Came upon this small corner store whilst walking through Greenwich in the late afternoon with my daughter and her baby son. What a find, wish it was my corner store. Everyone was most helpful moving to fit in the stroller even though it s quite small and not really roomy enough for babies in strollers. We were not familiar with the wines on the wine list however the wine suggested by he bar tender matched our description to perfection AND those oysters. They come from different areas and are prepared with various flavours. Plates of 6 or 12 with a variety of oysters are ideal for sharing. We only had a short time there but most enjoyable. We almost felt like New Yorkers!!

Second visit. First was for a quick bite of yummy oysters and Cesar salad with a friend. Second for a very late brunch with my honey. Had the fresser plate. A little pricey but delicious, well balanced platter of white fish, creme fraiche with salmon roe, soft scrambled eggs with caviar, the tiniest bit of sable, nova and gravlax. Despite being called the fresser the portion was small yet filling. The menu is small but delish. This is strictly for adults. No kids or big groups. But great for couples.

Awesome ambiance, friendly staff - food made to share. Rec’d croquettes, shrimp cocktail, fried artichokes and whatever server recommends - we got a drilled fish for table side tacos. All good.

Jeffrey's is a small, cozy, and a bit noisy, place. Staff were welcoming. Service was good. Beverages, beer and wine, were very good. The fried chicken was recommended by wait staff and was superb -- crisp, not greasy at all, moist and super tender. The branzino was also tasty and very good. A great find in NYC.

Popped in unannounced on our way to a blues club and were seated straight away. Service was exceptional as were the oysters natural which were from different fishing areas hence different tastes ...it was made very clear what I was eating and where it was from. The Hangar steak and the Bluefish were the best we have ever eaten as were the accompanying veggies. An excellent restaurant and if I ever have the opportunity wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. Music was great without taking over and staff and general vibe were unreal.., well done guys you've got it right!!!

After a day of strolling the west village and Greenwich village, I happened by this bustling oyster bar. I was helped by the front of house person to a seat at the bar with minimum wait. I really only wanted a few oysters and a wine, but ended up having that, and their fabulous little neck clams and pork belly appetizer. Flavored with guajillo, cilantro and lime, it was out of this world! The server, Elena, was super nice and helpful and was like a dessert to a wonderful dining experience. Thanks for the wonderful evening!

Had a great brunch here, by accident. The wife and I were just out exploring on a Saturday morning, and happened to walk by here when hungry. We got a table right away (small miracle, we figured out) and enjoyed a great brunch. Had oysters and BBQ, definitely wish we would have known about this beforehand, but the surprise for us was great. Would definitely try it again.

Wanted to come here for years but husband doesn't like seafood so I finally hit brunch w/a pal. Great oysters! Great staff, very patient, excellent wine recommendations. I just had a salad so I can't say too much on food but my friend had chorizo and eggs and said it was great. Surprised by yummy, warm ginger snaps offered free at end of lovely lunch. Will be back for dinner!

We found this delightful pub-like restaurant in the west Village and stopped in for lunch. The room is old with lots of character. While the place is known for its fresh oysters, we had a po-boy and a salad and shared some appetizers. The prices were reasonable for New York and the staff was helpful and friendly. There are large plate glass storefront windows to watch the passing parade going by. I plan to return for dinner.

Loved this place. Low key casual place with great atmosphere. Food very good. Service good too. Fantastic play list. Bit pricey for what you get but a great evening had by all.

We saw this restaurant when passing by in a taxi one night and got interested. It is not possible to book a table. Really nice and friendly staff! You felt so welcome! Meny is mainly fish and seafood. Oysters were fantastic and we got great help to chose between all different kind of oysters. Nice place you want to come back to!

Small but welcoming, they were packed but found room with no fuss and did so for others after us. Amazing starters - squid and lobster bisque, nice craft beer. Main of mussels, my wife requested no bacon, no issues and I got double bacon. Good wine list. Fair prices for NY. Would return. 👍🏻

We had delicious oysters and appetizers at the bar. Fun atmosphere. Great place for small group of friends. Friendly staff who are also quite easy on the eyes.

Sorry but I don't get all the great reviews for Jeffrey's Grocery... Ambiance is fine, nothing special. Tables are close together and the music is loud so it's difficult to hear. Service is quite friendly and food came out quickly. The food itself is where this restaurant falls short: - Portions are tiny, and I mean tiny. (I'm 100 lbs and I get full quickly if that gives you some perspective.) - I had a goat cheese omelette (minus the cheese) which was nothing special in any way. I ate it in about 4 bites and was still starving. The accompanying lettuce was laughable, and the piece of bread even funnier. - Prices are ridiculously high. $17 for my sad little omelette? Absurd. I'm obviously in the minority here but I have no plans to return when I can eat for half the price at any number of breakfast places, and actually leave feeling full.

I visited Jeffrey's with friends on a Sunday night. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed and the food was delicious. I had mussels and my two friends had the pasta dish and it was really out of this world! The service was truly excellent. I lost my purse at some point during the evening (it was found elsewhere!) and the waitresses could not have been more helpful. They helped me look for it and even checked their cctv. All in all, a great experience!

In one of the leafiest and coolest parts of New York, this place is very casual and relaxed. Food great quality. I had oysters followed by lobster roll. Good selection of drinks/wine. Staff are young and friendly. One little error on the food which they said they’d knock off the bill since we didn’t order it. Of course they didn’t. Genuine mistake I reckon. Otherwise, really great place.

We stopped for a beer on our way around Manhattan, so the visit was short but very positive. The restaurant had many guests and there was a good atmosphere. The staff was accommodating even though they had fully booked.

Met our son in NYC. This is a popular spot with the locals. Small place but nice. Attire- folks in business attire after work, casual, and shorts & tees. Super selection of shell fish. I had a shrimp cocktail , the guys shared a nice size Caeser salad. Dinner selections: 1 hanger Steak, & 2 orders of Bronzini- all were delicious & attractive. Wine list is so-so, good selections of beer. We passed on dessert. Seating is a little tight, wait staff very attentive. I certainly would fine there again.

Went for the grilled oysters and nice wines by the glass. Excellent service, the tastiest oysters and great selections of wines. Highly recommend.

We were here for before dinner cocktails. We sat outside on a sunny day and enjoyed the ambience of all sorts of people strolling by. The staff were terrific, friendly, fun, attentive. The drinks were good. This place is super popular.

This spot is fantastic for a romantic day out or to spend time with friends. The oysters are great even for the not biggest of fans. If that is not your thing, all the classics for a perfect lunch are available. The staff is charming, and it is very easy to go for that second bottle of wine and not wanting to leave.

Per a recommendation, we stopped here on our spontaneous Bloody Mary crawl, and it proved to be all the recommender said it would be. We ordered the Bloody Mary No 20 (classic), which came with a draft beer (smallish) chaser. Then we ordered a rock shrimp with eggs dish, which was yummy, and Shannon our server brought us complimentary Potato Latke which I'd order again and again. Shannon was very friendly and conversational, even though the place was crazy busy.

Went for the large lunch platter for two, and it was amazing! The smoked salmon, gravlax, latkes and the eggs were so tasty. We were seated at the bar which is amazing as the bar staff is so friendly and attentive. New favorite in New York

Where do I start? For the past year I have lived in West Village about 4 blocks from Jeffrey's Grocery. I was always curious about it, but never ventured in until about 4 months after moving to WV. I haven't stopped going back. First, the servers and bartenders are the best. The hostess on the weekends, Vanessa is fun and helpful and even treated my fiance andI to a glass of bubbly while we had a particularly long wait. The brunch there is great - farm fresh options that have a perfect blend of being creative but allowing for the flavors of the food to shine through. The cocktails are lovingly and perfectly crafted, and the oysters are fresh and delicious. Did I mention that they play a summer BBQ mix during brunch? Old school hip-hop and 5 Star food...perfection!!! I also love the decor - Farm tables, mason jars, kitchen towels as napkins. And oddly, they have an awesome bathroom - I love the way it's decorated and has great amenities. The only cons are that this is a very small space, and it's quite pricy. I would choose this over Pearl Oyster Bar any day of the week based on the food, service, selection, and ambiance.

I just walked in for brunch on the day I dropped off my son at college. The food was excellent and the energy was collaborative and positive with fun music and the staff being nice to each other. Fernando at the bar was very good--conversational enough but also let me have my space. I'll be back next time I go to NYC.

This place was excellent. It's has a cool vibe, totally west village. Not only are the oysters amazing, there is a large selection of them. Customer service was out of this world. Check this out, a very cool place and totally worth a visit.

Quick stop for a light lunch, wonderful oysters, tried all of them and best clam chowder we have ever had! Liked the Pumpkin ale, too, great flavor. Staff very friendly, knowledgable and welcoming!

Stumbled upon this joint strolling the West Village one Saturday afternoon. It's funny, it had exactly what we wanted - late afternoon oysters and rose, but that staff sort of detracted from the experience. Normally, I don't mind a staff that is boisterous and comfortable with/around the patrons and maybe it was the time of day, but there was something that bordered on obnoxious with them. I'm in the foodservice industry, so I know how things go when it nears staff meal time, but it was almost like they forgot there were patrons in the place. The music was turned way way up (albeit, the soundtrack was amazing), the staff was yelling at each other over the loud music, shenanigans ensued. As I said, I come from a background of restaurants, but usually this stuff is kept inside the kitchen/staff room, OR the restaurant shuts down for an hour while the staff does their thing. Anyway, oysters were super-fresh - we had 2 rounds and the Gruner Veltliner I ordered was (as always) a great match for our bi-valves. We did order shrimp cocktail which the bartender forgot to put in, or the shucker just never put up, but maybe that goes back to my staff comments from before. I think I'd like to go there again, but maybe on a different day/time and maybe if I've had a shot of Fernet Branca first.

This was truly a great find in the West Village. My partner and I walked past this restaurant and decided impromptu to eat here. We did not have any reservations but was quickly seated at the bar counter. The waiter serving us was very friendly and helpful. Ordered some fresh oysters which were super sweet, fresh and juicy! We then had the escargot toast, lobster pasta and grilled salmon which were very yummy. We ordered one dessert of butter cakes with pineapples but were given another (fresh corn doughnuts) for free!! Also had a bottle of wine to with the meal. We had such a pleasant experience eating here. The ambiance was great and the buzz generated by the diners, chefs, waiting staff were just fabulous! Would definitely return!

The seaing was uncomfortable. The menu wasn't great and ended up being charged for beverages we had not ordered, I called when I realized the mistake and was promised a refund for which I'm still waiting... The brussel sprout salad was too sweet for my taste and the overall menu selection is not what I would expect.

I am celiac so I need to be very careful where I eat. I went to Jeffrey's on a friends recommendation. I love this restaurant. Great atmosphere. Really helpful staff and of course food is fantastic. Also what a gorgeous area!

Came across this place whilst wandering around. Luckily got a table without waiting - the place was buzzing and just what I imagined it would be. Food did not disappoint - 2 shared the 60$ oyster combo and I shared a burger, king crab claws and potato latkes with my other daughter. Best Bloody Mary I have ever tasted - the beer chaser was a first! Well worth the money!

Found this place by complete accident during a recent trip to NYC. My wife and I were walking back uptown from Washington Square Park and were looking for something light to eat and a glass of something, saw Jeffrey's and thought we'd give it a try. Needless to say, we were so impressed by their parmesan grilled oysters, we came back a further two times during our short visit to the city. They deserve a 5 star rating due to the friendly staff, great food and amazing atmosphere...

This was a great little find in Greenwich village - nice little, homely restaurant with a real buzz. Great staff who really pay you attention and know the food inside out. Always busy and with fantastic atmosphere. Food is amazingly good - would totally recommend the steak - the best I think I have ever had. Food is cooked freshly and with care and you can see the kitchen area at the back of the restaurant so the great smell wafts around while you're waiting. A real gem

Why do restauranteurs employ staff that have no idea what they are doing. Went with friends to this establishment, but none of us got to eat. When you are handed (but ours was tossed at us) a menu you should also be told the specials of the day and what is off the menu. We ordered from the menu that were tossed to us, by a girl who is obviously from the near by University making some extra money, around fifteen minutes later we were informed that the chef had forgotten to tell her that what we had ordered was off the menu. FIFTEEN minutes is a joke and if this place lasts much longer it will be a wonder New York has plenty of great eateries, but this place is BAD.

Great raw bar and a nice restaurant to drink, eat and catch up with friends - great decor and cozy. I didn't think the wait staff was great especially for the location.

Relaxed and unpretentious vibe. Super charming staff. Excellent bar to start (or end) the evening. Excellent location in West Village.

Delicious food. Nice well balanced contrasting flavors. They have a small (mostly fish although they serve a mean steak and vegetarian dishes) menu but all dishes are prepared to perfection. The experience was only enhanced by the very energetic and cheerful crew. They were really enjoying themselves and the food tasted all the better for it.

Stopped in to Jeffrey's for a late lunch on our first day in the city. What a perfect introduction to city life! It was comfortable, and casual, but eclectic at the same time - and the food was delicious! We had a wonderful light lunch, seated at the bar in the company of several locals with whom we shared delightful conversations about the City and, of course, oysters. If I lived around the corner, I would also live at Jeffrey's.

We had a large group (8 of us) but were seated fairly quickly mid-afternoon on a Friday. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was amazing! We had a variety of items: oysters, crab legs, shrimp, skate sandwich, crab and avocado toast, salads, and an assortment of desserts. Everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The portions were generous. Cheers to the chef! Would definitely go back!

Food, atmosphere, drinks, service... everything is just perfect. Really perfect. Our favourite eating place in NYC.

We visited this buzzy little spot just after 11am on a Sunday ( incidentally Trip Advisor showed closed all day so maybe check if going out of your way. As we were heading to Greenwich we just pitched up) and were quickly found a counter spot by the smiling staff. The menu is varied and a crushed ice bar displays the seafood. We had a couple of dishes plus a share which was ample. The corn cakes with maple ham and poached eggs were fantastic as was my husbands shrimp with avocado. The share was salted mayo fries which in his words were awesome- he never says awesome! Now to drinks - it would be rude to come here and not have a brunch cocktail so one salty chihuahua for me and one spicy bloody mary (served with a short beer chaser) later the world was a lovely place. The staff are busy, friendly and attentive and I am sorry we do not have a Jeffrey's at home. Price wise the above plus two coffees was $90 Inc tax but excluding the tip so a treat to savour not a snack and run place.

The fish taco, salmon tartare and grilled oysters where great. The atmosphere lovely! I will definitely be back next time in NY!

Seriously, they are actually that good. They've got their act together, have a delicate hand with the ingredients, and, in short, are somewhat addictive :-) The seafood is plentiful, if somewhat expensive. But then again, that's NYC for you, and in particular, "NYC + Seafood". The service is good (even if they *do* like to push the expensive stuff. sigh), you just have to get past that initial burst of "try this additional thing that is pricey". Mind you, if you're sitting at the bar, they're great! The atmosphere is cosy, warm, and inviting, again, especially at the bar. In short, if you've got the money, it's an easy place to hang out in w/ friends for an extended duration...

Great Bloody Caesar! Served with tasty pearl onion, pickle and caper berry skewer with a delicious oyster and shrimp on top. We ordered salty oysters for an appetizer then had 2 nice brunch entrees. happy friendly staff, good music playing and lively atmosphere.

Small, casual, fun place with great food. We had a great meal here (I particularly liked the Shishito peppers appetizer - simple - but hit the spot). Will return next time I'm in the neighborhood.

We've visited twice; both times at around 4-5pm when you usually find other restaurants preparing for the evening service. This wasn't the case at Jeffrey's; service times here are seamless leaving their customers feeling just as important as their evening dinners. Very professional. Thank You

We stopped for lunch on 7/13/12 and boy was I glad we did! The atmosphere is wonderful. Tin ceilings are gorgeous and surroundings are comfortable. Now for the food...... I had the radish salad over Brie toast & melted Brie. The radishes were a mélange of radishes, razor thin & small pieces over the Brie, with white anchovies (small amount). Friends had the brisket with fresh horseradish & the roasted chicken Cobb salad. Start with a bloody Mary with either dill or cilantro infused vodka. A bit pricey for lunch, but well worth it. I've attached a pic of the radish salad. Wait staff were very friendly. I'm recommending to friends for sure.

The staff at Jeffrey's take themselves way too seriously. I felt like I was imposing on them as a patron. The setup is fun, but it's just not a restaurant that makes me want to go back...I did not feel welcomed. The service was rushed and inattentive. Located in my neighborhood, I was hoping to add this to my list of favorites but I don't think so. I may try one more time.

Weekdays From 4-6 Jeffreys Grocery (172 Waverly Pl, New York, NY 10014) serves unbelievably fresh Oysters for $1 US per oyster. They offer a wide selection from all different countries and parts of the sea and all sorts of accompaniments to suit your fancy. Delicious!!

An exceptional experience! The young lady who looked after us was welcoming and friendly, making for a truly inviting atmosphere. The food, freshly prepared was absolutely delicious (big shout out for the Lobster Roll) and the ambiance was both relaxing and enjoyable. Overall, an outstanding experience. Highly recommended!

We went for a mother /daughter lunch on a holiday Monday - likely why we got seated right away..we each had the fried skate sandwich and our girls loved their Loosey Goosey drinks. Order a old bottle of water and the seltzer spritz makes a great bubbly. Oysters are fine but atmosphere is what is great as its tucked into Waverly Place.

We didn't pick Jeffrey's because of its rave Trip advisor reviews but just happened upon it after walking our feet of at MOMA…..I am English and don't like to complain but first my glass of French wine was luke warm and the server disagreed and said it couldn't be as bottle cold…which it was, but then the wine hadn't been in the ice long enough to chill. "so you would like another one then?" he huffily asked..meekly I nodded…having suggested he taste it himself…Then I ordered whelks and my husband marinated mussels…about £8 each. Now whelks are large and half a dozen more than enough with a salad..Unfortunately in Jeffreys, tho they serve them in the shell, this is only for decoration…they chop up some whelks and stuff a few pieces back in the shells…For £8 I received 4 teaspoons worth of shell fish. Blushing pink i agree to the suggestion to talk to the chef. he came out and explained that most of the whelk was thrown away…in the preparation…i was sent some more bits but they were really overcooked and as my husbands mussels were of miniature size and also over cooked we cut our losses and ran…There are so many better restaurants in New York, that perhaps haven't let their Trip Advisor reports go to their heads.

Having visited this block just to see the Stonewall Inn and the Gay Liberation Memorial, popped into this place for a quick drink and to get out of the rain. So glad we did, such a lucky find: ended up staying for more drinks and two platters of oysters (which were perfect - so fresh!). Worth popping in, range of seafood is impressive.

Jeffrey's was a fun place to meet for brunch. Lots of good food and a nice walk through NYC from Midtown.

Nice bar and restaurant. Food is made behind the bar and is simple, but good. Very friendly staff.

We are from the UK and visited Jeffrey's whilst we were in NY as it had been recommended to us by a local. The food was very high quality and you could see the chefs attention to the little details which makes it special. Even the bread tasted amazing and we learnt they source it fresh from a local bakery. Can really recommended the crab and avo on toast!

The atmosphere made this a enjoyable pit stop. Food was great and service very good . The relaxed and friendly atmosphere made this a very lunch time break. The smell of the oysters was great.

We've been to Jeffrey's Grocery maybe 20 times in the last few years and have always been fans. A great vibe and space, and amazing food, in particular the raw bar. But the most recent visit was a disappointment: the staff was moodier than usual, the cocktails terrible (never put Australians in charge of making cocktails in America) and the elimination of lobster spaghetti from the regular menu (if you've ever had it there, you know why its demise is upsetting!). Instead of dropping another few hundred dollars for a round of lobster spaghetti for four with wine, we went elsewhere to spend that money last night. This place has had a good thing going but needs to course correct quickly.

Restaurant is small but staff is very friendly and efficient. Had a salad with shrimp and calamari which was delicious. We also enjoyed a glass of the recommended rose. Food arrived quickly but we did not feel rushed. Perfect place to dine before continuing onward with our planned activities of the day.

Came here to celebrate post marathon and we couldn't have picked a better spot. Only a small place but they accommodated the seven of us and the atmosphere was cool, intimate and relaxed. Good selection of drinks and spirits and knowledgable bar staff too. Menu was really well though through and brilliantly executed. The steaks were spot on and perfectly seasoned. My blackened flounder was moist and spicy whilst my friends salmon was in his words "epic". The range of oysters is interesting with a range from salty through to creamy and the staff seem to know what they are talking about. Not particularly cheap, especially the wine list which is a little over priced but the food and atmosphere are worth it. Strongly recommend stopping by if in the neighbourhood

A well considered menu presented in an unpretentious manner by an incredibly talented team; both in front of and behind the pass. Great bar, great Seafood, great lunch menu and all very affordable.

The cocktails are off the charts - they are actually that good The seafood is plentiful, if somewhat expensive. But then again, that's NYC for you The service is good (even if they *do* like to push the expensive stuff. sigh) The atmosphere is cosy, warm, and inviting. In short, if you've got the money, it's an easy place to hang out in w/ friends for an extended duration...

We went to explore Greenwich and the west village in NYC looking for a brunch spot and just found this amazing place while walking. This is steeped in character with lively modern music and a quirky layout. We made brunch a wow great choice. We had a beef burger and chicken burger both tasting amazing. We shared them the pancakes with cream, peacans and pumpkin butter which were divine. The service was great a really relaxed vibe, but modern and funky. The original sin rose cider tasted great missing it so much now back in the UK! Defo one to venture out to, get away from midtown and the chains and venture to this little spot. Will be visiting again next time.

Good location and we'll set out. Like a lot of West Village restaurants, fairly trendy. Music quite loud, crowded even during the week night we went. Came as a foursome -weren't allowed to enter till all 4 of us were there. Prices were on the high side, meal quantity ok, quality was good for 2 of the 4 mains. Solid, but wouldn't rush back there.

Nice food and nie atmosphere in the west village of new York. We stopped by and they were really kind finding a place for us. If you are passing by stop by, it's really nice place to have a light dinner.

I was welcomed by a friendly waitress. No table available yet, and was asked if I could come back 30 minutes later, which was not an issue for me at all. I sat at a small table al fresco, there was a nice relaxing summer vibe. I had the lobster roll and a lemonade - the mocktail I’d ordered was never brought to me. The roll was ok , the chips (I.e French fries) were moorish but I doubt there were cut out of fresh potatoes (they were more like fast food fries made out of potato starch). The waitress for my table was not particularly friendly, but I suppose it was a busy night. Not cheap - but I suppose it is NYC price.

This restaurant has ok seafood and drinks , if you can stomach horrible service and extremely rude and obnoxious( possibly drunk) hostess , then it's a place for you, otherwise stay away. The owner of this place should be informed that his employees drink on the job. Not cool.

Jeffrey's has a quaint space which is ideal for 2, 4, and 6 people. Our party of three enjoyed their wonderful cocktails and delicious selection of brunch . We chose a variety of oysters from their raw bar to start off our meal and progressed onto the burger, the shrimp dish and the crab avocado toast. The place has a good vibe and may be a wait but you wont be disappointed.

Awesome spot to stumble in to! We were in NY in December and were looking for a spot to warm up- saw this restaurant looking festive and scored a spot at the bar. The cocktails were great and the staff were friendly. Great cozy spot to get a drink. The food looked good but we had already eaten dinner. Highly recommend!

We stumbled on this place which was in Greenwich Village near Gay Street ! We got 2 bar seats and ordered the mixed seafood plate with side of fries, The cajun fries were amazing. Seafood plate included Oysters, Clams, prawns and a beatiful lobster salad. The only disapointment and seen it elsewhere in NY is the oysters are really small. Ambiance, staff, music and location all excellent.

One of my favorite places in the West Village! Great cocktails, excellent brunch, amazing seafood. Love the oyster selection every time, and I would highly recommend the bloody mary with a chaser.
Fantastic breakfast!!
Stopped by chance and had the bagels with the works - salmon cream cheese etc...great service to boot!! Not cheap but fresh and well served. Would love to try the oysters!!
