Breakfast set me up for the day

By Hashirama39 |

My wife and I found this diner close to our hotel. Reviews seemed good so we decided to give it a try on our last day before we head off home. Food was of an excellent standard as too was the level of service. It had the typical fast pace atmosphere as people appears to be served food at speed and the bill arriving just as fast shortly after you finish. Decor was reasonable and we managed to get a seat at the counter which was actually more interesting for me as I got to see it all happen right in front of my eyes. The chef doing most of the cooking over a hot plate was like a magician with his hands cracking eggs, laying ham, melting cheese and making pancakes... all this time the waitress was shouting out orders to him which he somehow managed to get right without fail. Food arrived smelling great and tasted better. My wife get her unintentional extra large portion of banana with pecan nut pancakes. There were people queuing continuously as time went by which only serves to reinforce the assumption that this is the right place to go for your morning bite. Pricing was fair and taste was great, can't fault them on anything.

This place has a great location but poor coffee snd terrible corned beef hash.

By Allan S |

I have never had green peppers in my corned beef hash. They literally made the hash almost u edible and when served with awful first cappuccino and then regular coffee it was too much. I have eaten well well done corned beef hash all over Manhattan and clearly this is the worse case I have experienced. This place is busy but I will never return for a poor representative of the product. Shane on you.

Superb

By JUDE F |

We stayed at the Millennium Hilton across the road from here and found John’s on day 2 of our holiday and ate here 4 days on the trot for breakfast. The staff are superb really friendly and by day 2 felt like a local. Recommend the waffles, and the Greek yoghurt and granola, in fact recommend everything on the menu absolutely superb and set us up for the day ahead.

Super brunch

By Arthur |

We had brunch in the morning, great atmosphere, waiters and perfect service and excellent food! I highly recommend!

A “Seinfeld” Coffee Shop: whats not to love?

By Carol R |

It was the perfect place to begin the day seeing the sights in NYC. After our first visit, it was our choice for the rest of the week. The atmosphere was “neighborly,” the food excellent, the staff efficient & friendly, & the coffee delicious! “Johns” will always be our first choice. Thank you all for a “Seinfeld” coffee shop experience.

Breakfast at John's

By April in Paris |

Great place, nice people. I had an egg white, American cheese and potato egg sandwich which was delicious but I thought it was a bit pricey $9. My boyfriend had an omelet and potatoes which was awesome. Will visit again when in the city. Quick seating and friendly staff.

John's coffee shop

By Ian O |

What a great find. We looked on TA and found this place. Food is great and service is excellent. I would definitely come back here again.

Traditional NY diner.

By May S |

Aww we stayed at the nearby Hilton Millenium UN Plaza nearby, and came here for breakfast. Coming from Scotland we had to try a traditional NY diner, and it was exactly that! My hubby loved it - the different egg dishes right up his street. As a vegetarian I opted for a simple blueberry muffin. It was amazing to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere. Great memories brought back home.

Old-school breakfast/lunch! The max!

By Yvogeel |

A purebred old-school dinner in the heart of NY. Clean, super friendly, smooth service, very honest, simple but good food. Highly recommended!

Jack

By ellie |

Best breakfast spot in New York City! Here on hoilday from Scotland and came here for breakfast every day we were here. Jacks the best by far. Would 100% recommend and come again.

Crossroads

By Alan F |

Well, in one sense, it is at the corner of 44th and Second Avenue. But in a larger sense it is a mini-diner and an interesting amalgam of that whole genre and the New York City melting pot. You will see an amazing cross section of New Yorkers and tourists and a wide assortment of hard working folks serving and working there. I have certainly been in diners with better food, but to find good simple fare at modest prices in the heart of a very expensive city, kindly served, is pretty remarkable. in its own right. Sandwiches and egg dishes are done quickly and expertly. They look after their customers whether you are a stranger or a regular. For those of us not on an expense account, this is a good place to know when you are looking for comfort food and not ambiance. There are a few Greek dishes on the menu, which may or may not confirm its ethnic origins. I had a Bagel Benedict. The Bagel was nothing to write home about, but the salmon, egg and Hollandaise Sauce and home fries were all very good. My wife's Chicken Salad Club and French fries were pleasing and a good cup of black coffee rounded off our meal.

Best Eggs Benedict in New York City

By Taylor B |

When I read an article that John's Coffee Shop cooked the best Eggs Benedict in New York City, I immediately added the busy little diner in Midtown Manhattan to our itinerary for our recent trip. Located at 823 2nd Street, it is a mix of locals, tourists and business people that has a reputation as the fastest moving coffee shop in town, meaning you don't wait more than five minutes for a cup of coffee. It's the perfect stop to start your morning or to have a lunch break. The pastrami is said to be almost as good as Katz's Delicatessen for half the price. And the French toast is highly recommended. But I came for the Classic Eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon, two poached eggs on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce and sausage and two warm buttermilk biscuits on the side. As good as advertised. Meanwhile, my wife was equally impressed with the lumberjack freshly dipped French toast served with butter and syrup, two scrambled eggs, sausage and a fresh baked blueberry muffin. With a freshly baked cinnamon roll with icing on the side. Open from 8 to 3 daily, John's Coffee Shop also offers two other tempting items on the menu -- two scrambled eggs and corned beef hash with home fries and white toast with strawberry jam and Monte Cristo Benedict, one slice of French toast topped with sliced turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. A great way to start a full day of sight-seeing.

Solid brunch place

By mklein818 |

Perfectly good and relatively reasonable brunch place. Not remarkable - but good quality, reasonable service (orders came out at different times). Weak but unlimited coffee.

Authentic diner , friendly staff

By Suereadart |

Ate here three times. Set us up perfectly for a days walking the city. Helpful and very busy staff topped up your coffee . Great experience. Loved it

What a find!

By SJTMor |

Our hotel was just up the road and we had breakfast here every day; it was the perfect start to the day. Lots of choice on the menu, we had great pancakes and waffles. It gets very busy and the service is quick but not rushed.

The Diner I was looking for

By joeschmitt2018 |

This is where you get it: the basic-rapidly served greasy food based on eggs, ham, bacon, home fries in all variations. Nice portions, well priced, and certainly, Belgian waffles are also served. I really like the orange juice along with corned beefs hash. Fantastic, but do not check your cholesterol in the next 24 hours. The home Fries are crisp and not burned, the waters are quick and efficient. They also offer „to go“. This is my breakfast place in NYC.

Great value, authentic diner

By Baffled |

I've been coming here for nearly four decades and always visit when I'm in NYC. It's friendly, efficient, great value, and the menu has all you'd expect from a classic diner. So I've been there, got the t-shirt (really) and drink my morning coffee from my John's mug when I am at home in the UK.

Value breakfasts

By granizadodelimon |

Good food served fast nice portions and all for a good price... but it’s cramped. Nice when it’s quiet to watch the world go by avoid peak time if you can it’s a bit more comfortable

Great find

By Dryllig |

Great find - thank you, Trip Advisor! Service was friendly and efficient. My husbands crab cake Benedictine was delicious and my lox and creamy cheese bagel fab. Both were full of flavour and did not scrimp on the protein. Wholeheartedly recommend.

A hidden gem

By Leah |

A true hidden gem. A proper American diner where service is fast and good and food is amazing. We tried the pancakes, waffles and omelettes in our return visits. Definitely recommend a visit if you are located nearby.

Fantastic Diner in NYC

By Adele W |

This place is a gem! It’s been here for years and there’s a reason. It’s unbelievably good! Breakfast hot, fast and delicious. A locals favourite (we were told) so we checked it out. Didn’t hesitate to go back next day, wish we found it sooner. Diner style, great food.

Excellent breakfast!

By pompelandpilt |

Had breakfast here every day during our 9-day NYC visit. A real American diner with prompt service, very good & affordable food. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, and everything you expect from an American breakfast. Heartily recommended!

Breakfast Raleigh meets Chicago meets Copenhagen

By chrissylantry |

All around yummy. Classic New York. Speedy service and a good happy vibe. The Hash browns were off the hook.

Definitely worth it.

By Nadeche D |

Nice place to have breakfast in New York. Have been there twice during our stay. Extensive map with lots of choice. On Saturday and Sunday there is an extra card with even more options. Fast and friendly operation

Quaint little corner diner.

By Lynnkro1 |

Quaint little corner diner. Quick service and very friendly staff. Food was great. Gets busy on the weekends so arrive early.

Turtle Bay Area Diner

By Ron |

Typical neighborhood dinner with decent diner breakfast and burgers. It can get busy so opt for the counter if there’s room.

Good food

By sue39 |

When in NYC we always try to have at least one breakfast here even though we may have to go out of our way. Sometimes there may be a wait but is well worth that wait.

Definitely worth a visit

By carolinadurk |

Went for breakfast and the food and service wee excellent. I had oatmeal which was nasty and filling. Pancakes were delicious. Service was great

Best Start to the Day

By Orly N |

We went here every morning during our week long stay in Manhattan. The corned beef hash and avocado toast were my favourite dishes, while my husband tried to work his way through the omelette menu, choosing a different one each day. The coffee out of the machine was a bit erratic temperature-wise on a couple of the days but they were happy to change it if it was not hot enough. Would definitely return if ever we visited that area again but recommend to others in the meantime.

Breakfast

By Ian B |

I fear this restaurant is a victim of its own success. Very busy restaurant with seating at the counter and table service also offered. Waiters loitering around tables like an eagle seeking prey, ready to swoop once you put your knife and fork down! Service was good, food fine. Price very reasonable for New York. Include this place in your travel plans..a leisurely breakfast? Thats for you to decide.

Couldn’t fault it!!

By chl0_85 |

Woah… loved it. Amazing being able to watch the kitchen in action. Super busy and NO dockets - orders just called out to kitchen by waitress. Anyone who’s worked hospitality knows how wild that is. Simple food done really well and fresh to order. I saw people in the kitchen boiling and peeling potatoes to keep topping up the hash on the grill. Fresh fruit cut for each order that required it. Work stations immaculate. Service efficient and friendly. As an Australian, I wish we could nail it like this back home. Will return every day I have left in NY.

Great breakfast!

By Sondre E |

15 min in line to get a table, but totally worth it. We ate pommes frites, bagels with smoked salmon/cream cheese, eggs benedict, bacon and some more. Easily the best breakfast in New York.

Iced coffee

By Trudy R |

Real gem of a find Nice water service extensive menu and massive portions Real find in the centre of New York worth the walk We had the reubens with corned beef on rye was absolutely delicious

Amazing Diner

By Lou B |

Amazing food and service. Really good value and very authentic friendly diner. Excellent service, food and value.

Good breakfast

By Doris F |

The is a diner. There are a good variety of breakfast items. Well prepared. Reasonably priced. Fast service.

Quick and easy food stop

By Doug |

Stopped here when we first got to New York. Plenty of room for suitcases. Staff were friendly and approachable. Food was good and just what we needed. Not the most luxurious or gourmet food but was a quick and easy bite to eat, which is just what we needed. Service times were good and they brought over water when we arrived, which was a nice touch. Would recommend if you're after a quick bite to eat rather than a long sit down meal.

Great breakfasts

By Jenny A |

We visited 3 mornings for breakfast. Lots of choice and variety which met everyone’s needs, from bagels to pancakes and waffles to lots of variety of eggs. Good value and very friendly staff

Best breakfast in New York

By Ben |

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. Well, what a recommendation. The food is superb and the service fast and efficient, with free refills on coffee. Spent a week in New York and couldn’t find anywhere better. Can’t really give it any further praise than that!

Great food and service

By Tourist284560 |

We went to John's every morning of our trip. Everything we tried was really good. The potatoes that come with the meals is delicious. Recommend the Steak and eggs. Note it was very busy on Sunday

Classic Diner!

By Tim B |

John’ Coffee Shop was the perfect spot! We had just arrived to our hotel(The Bernic) and check in was a couple hours away. I got on Trip Advisor and found John’s. The reviews are everything they say! John’s is run like a well oiled machine, the service and food is good!

Fast and good

Blueberry Muffin

By Nick S |

Quick pit stop, toasted blueberry muffin and an ice coffee. Friendly staff and great service. Doesn’t feel like an overpriced tourist trap. Think I’ll be back!

Simply the best 🙏

By Robbie M |

I can honestly say this is a hidden gem 💎 We are half way through are week stay and have been in here every morning for breakfast. I very rarely leave a review only if I really think they go above and beyond the food is a 10/10 and the staff are bang on If you are over it’s a must.

terrific food and service

By Janet C |

John's coffee shop is popular throughout the day from breakfast and has a good range of choices. Service is fast and friendly. A popular with both locals and those visiting the UN, its 2 blocks walk.

All right.

By Fabredrum |

Old-fashioned restaurant as seen in the movies. Wide choice of dishes for breakfast. The plates are generous and the products quality. A real success at very reasonable prices. There are many people but the turn over is quite fast. A great time to experience American life.

Great value for breakfast

By sherman49 |

We ate here three times for breakfast during our stay in the city because it was the best value place we found - friendly, speedy service, a really good choice of waffles and pancakes for the kids and good coffee. The Tropical Waffle had loads of fruit, the Eggs Benedict was excellent and the orange juice was fresh. Perfect.

Loved it.

By nashiesmam |

Great find near our hotel. Friendly staff great choice and coffee top up. Enjoyed the Monte Cristo. Hope to get back again.

We're Going Back Tomorrow Morning!!

By Travel50StatesUSA |

Had breakfast here this morning, and already know that we are returning tomorrow morning. The service is quick and friendly, and the food is so delicious. I had the French Toast, and my husband ordered Pancakes. Wish I had discovered John's Coffee Shop sooner, as after breakfast tomorrow morning, we're heading home!!

Good food at a reasonable price

By SC Yaya |

A great little diner coffee shop With a good menu at reasonable prices. This is our second visit there and I’d definitely go back

Best Breakfast in NYC.

By darrellsmith_45110 |

Went here for breakfast on 3 days during a long weekend in New York. Great value, and a varied choice of menu. Try steak and corned beef hash for instance ! A very busy place but plenty of staff to keep the place going so waiting for food didn’t take long. Also, a never ending supply of coffee.

Great NYC diner experience

By Louis R |

Great service, fast and friendly. Typical NYC diner, great eggs and coffee, hash, bacon, and hash. We will be back.

Recommended breakfast/lunch in NYC

A diner as it should be!

By mimi |

We go to NYC every year for 1 week. And every morning of that week we have breakfast at John’s. We appreciate the nice setting, great food & the hard working staff AND owner! 👏👏👏 A diner as it should be!

nice place good food

By Raul G |

Small but fast service and good food only gave a 4 do to their coffee and chocolate being water down

Authentic American Diner

By Richard W |

We tried John’s for our first American Diner experience. We enjoyed it, it certainly felt like an authentic American diner. Service was ok, one lady in particular was very nice and friendly. The French toast was really good, very flight and fluffy. huevos rancheros was ok but not the best. The house fries were very good. Lattes were nice too. Overall we enjoyed it. If you are in the mid town east area and looking for breakfast this place is worth a look.

Great food

By Paul W |

Excellent place to pop in for breakfast or anytime really. Lovely food and great service eat inor take away.

Not just good coffee

By Patsy T |

We stayed near Grand Central on 42nd Street and we were looking for a decent diner for breakfast. John's coffee shop was a couple of blocks away so we decided to try it out, then ended up trying it out every morning. It's a busy little place, the staff work as if in fast forward. When we received our breakfast we realised why it was so popular, the food was absolutely fantastic, I had poached eggs and toast, the eggs were perfect every day, my husband had two sausages, bacon, eggs and potatoes (their hash brown),and toast.all washed down with juice and endless coffee. Cost about 30 dollars including tip. The service was fast and friendly. People queuing for a seat didn't have to wait long, well worth a visit, you won't be disappointed. Thank you John's, hope to see you all again. X

Great little coffee shop .

By Andrew R |

Found this great little coffee shop , only 5 minutes walk from our hotel . It has a good selection of food at very reasonable prices . The staff are welcoming and helpful . And the food is a great start to the day . I would definitely recommend .

Great place - popular for a reason.

By SteveK28762 |

This place was always busy, which is a good sign. We stayed very close by and stopped for breakfast to set us up for the day. Very friendly staff, great service, great food (too much in fact). Just what we wanted so would thoroughly recommend.

Great value breakfast!!

By Helen W |

We were lucky enough to enjoy two great breakfast visits to Johns. Each time the service was great and food perfect and the prices were amazing for New York, 4 breakfasts inc drinks just $45 inc tip. Only regret was we wasted a morning having an awful breakfast at Scottys!! You won't be disappointed at John's.

A must visit

By Shane B |

Both myself and my friend were over to do the Marathon from Ireland and stopped by twice.on both occasions the food was delicious, coffee topped up regularly and good tea.staff were very friendly.the only down side is that we fly out tomorrow but we will call back when we are in New York again

Loved it

By Bernard D |

Loved it. Went most mornings. Great experience of real new york breakfast. Sets you up for the day with great food at good value. Yes the service is fast and can be seen as 'cold' but lived that. Great that one waitress remembered our order after just one visit!

Excellent

By j69 |

Great time spent with my husband, delicious food, unusual setting, lots of people but no waiting, very well organized. I recommend

Great Breakfast

By rowanNottingham |

Visited here for breakfast each morning whilst in New York. I had seen it on Trip Adviser but also the concierge at our hotel told us about it. You could not fault the breakfasts. The pancakes were amazing as was the yogurt with granola and the eggs any style. As someone else has said it’s busy but you never feel rushed. We loved the fact it was busy and you could people watch. Will defiantly come here again next time we are in New York.

A Popular place for breakfast

By Bill C |

There is a good choice of breakfast dishes at reasonable (for NYC) prices. Good and prompt service. A pleasure to dine here in the mornings.

Great

By James L |

Fabulous breakfast 3 days running.Tried 3 different dishes all brilliant.Always busy which is a good sign.Traditional diner with fast friendly service. Thankfully had a good appetite every day. Great bang for your buck.Would recommend to anyone.

Rude and inedible food

By Steven N |

We went there based on the reviews and sincerely regret this. Waiter was rude and literally started walking away as we were ordering - in fact he barely stopped to listen. We ordered 2 well done poached eggs and toast. The toast was dumped on the table by a waitress who told us the eggs were coming. After 10 minutes my husband asked about the eggs as the toast was completely cold. She said it was taking long because we asked for well-done. They finally arrived and were a weird pink colour and unappetizing. Definitely would not want other tourists to experience this.

Good eats,Good Service

By Customer912 |

Visiting from the 912 area code and wanted to find a spot where the locals go. Found it and this place was very good. We ate breakfast there and we have no complaints here. Fast service and good food. Great recommendation from us to you.

Excellent breakfast

By Giorgio |

The place is really nice, a typical NY diner. We had an excellent breakfast for 4 for 45$ + tip: eggs Benedict, pancakes with fruits, oatmeal, and of course coffee and juices. Everything cooked perfect and tasty. And a very nice server. Recommended

Walked from 59th street every morning 😊

By Ray S |

Read about Johns Coffee shop on trip advisor, So we decided to check it out , We walked down from 59th St ( 5 Ave) most mornings to Johns Coffee shop and it was a pleasant experience, Very nice staff , great food , fast service & just a nice place to visit ( Might be difficult to get a seat during rush hour times) if we back in New York in the future will definitely call back to Johns Coffee shop 😊👍💗 Best Regards Ray Sweeney Ireland 🇮🇪

Don't Go Here!

By Elisa D |

Terrible food, lousy service, it was a nightmare all around. Never again! Don't go here if you can help it. (There, I met the 100 character minimum)

Great local find

By Dylan B |

Stumbled upon this place for breakfast. Was fast, efficient with great food and service. It’s not set up for big groups ( we had 5) but the staff were great and made up a table for 3 and 2. Was a real local gem. Highly recommend if your looking for a quick feed and quality food.

Breakfast

By Jonathan W |

Fantastic American style breakfast! Staff were friendly and the food was super quick and super tasty! Thanks ✌🏼

Perfect breakfast spot!

By DJ M |

Quick Service, great dishes, phenomal people. Unfortunatelly we found this gem very late on our trip, but we made sure to have breakfast there every morning until we left.

Great food great price great service

By Metty69 |

We visited here twice with two hungry boys for breakfast, fab breakfast menu really good quick service as soon as you sit down there is a coffee in front of you, we tried pancakes, waffles, omelettes and all were lovely. Great price definitely worth a visit.

Mean and Rude

By Cruiselover123 |

Tried going here for breakfast today. We were promptly yelled at as soon as we walked in the door..."we aren't open" "we're closed." When we asked what time they opened, they said 8:20 or 8:10. Definitely worse than the stereotypical "rude" New Yorker. The hours are listed as 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. but apparently, they open whenever they feel like it. We took our business elsewhere!

Delicious food with quick service

By holidaycc |

We came here and had a waffle and bacon, egg and cheese roll. The food was delicious and portion sizes were big. Service was quick. Would visit again.

Didn’t stay

By Elizabeth R |

Sorry I can’t rate the food as the service was so appalling we left. It wasn’t too busy but we felt we were a nuisance, unfriendly greeting if you could even call it that, shown to table, waiter walked off. He got two menus and tossed them on table, I caught one before it hit the floor. Coffee? Yes please we will have.... He walked off again without finding out what we wanted. We watched as he spoke to other staff, took orders, took food to tables. We walked out. As very experienced travellers we can give plenty of leeway, but this was just rude.

Delicious pancakes

By Shelley C |

We came for breakfast here one morning. It was very busy, we were seated fine though and had a tasty breakfast. Pancakes are good. Although we weren’t rushed, because it was busy and the servers were working hard rushing around everywhere, you kinda felt like you should probably leave to give up your table as soon as possible. Good food and fast service, just maybe not the place for a relaxed atmosphere.

Brilliant

By pacha835 |

This is what you can call a real Diner . Always a great sign to see a queue waiting outside a place and as we saw here even when it was snowing . The food was perfect and at great value with a good menu to choose from .Staff were really friendly . A great place to go .

Great place for Breakfast and very friendly.

By KellyF |

My friend and I were in New York for 4 nights and stayed at the Even hotel just down the street from John's coffee shop. We never usually visit the same place twice as we like to try lots of new places, but after the first morning of breakfast here we came back every morning for the rest of our trip. I tried the choc chip pancakes, scrambled eggs with bacon and potato and the tropical waffles. All were great!! You get free coffee refills and the staff are so friendly and quick. Would recommend John's coffee shop to anyone in the area.

Brilliant

By Gethin Smart |

Superb place for breakfast and coffee. Bustling, busy and brilliant service. Came here on 4 days out of 5 whilst staying in New York.

Great breakfast & very reasonable prices

By Krishnan R |

We had breakfast one of the days, which was about a 5 minute walk from our hotel. The prices are very reasonable for any breakfast item. We had French Toast, Waffles and scrambled eggs plus cappuccino and it was amazing. Friendly staff and would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for cheaper or reasonably priced breakfast options.

We visited twice during our week visit

By csedgy17 |

We visited New York for a week from the uk and our first morning we Googled local and best breakfast and johns was about 2 blocks from our hotel We got a table asap but staff were, putting it politely, rude We had one server, a male, he was attentive enough and one of the kinder servers Menus were given immediately and coffee poured asap Good menu selection - had crispy bacon syrup and French toast - it was good! The owner or manager walking around always miserable - no pleases no hello’s no goodbyes but I didn’t really mind when service is quick and food is good - coffee also good We visited again so the lack of nice service obviously didn’t bother us too much Second time it was a Sunday so they had specials - I tried the sausage gravy with biscuits and my boyfriend had stuffed cannoli French toast which was delicious Also one of the only places we dined that knew what I meant when I asked for caramel in my iced coffee Prices are also reasonable and we liked the true New York diner vibes - everyone else’s food we saw come out also looked delicious Knocked a star for the lack of being nice but still recommend going

A real New York Diner

By NewEur0pean |

We are a family of four and stayed at the Millenium Hilton UN Plaza. Their breakfast is so expensive that we chose to have ours at John’s every morning for the duration of our stay! We tried all sorts of things from the menu, but the special omelette with their own home fried potatoes and their granola with fruit and Greek Yoghurt were our favourites! I also loved their orange juice. Tasted much fresher than anywhere else. Coffee was perfect too. A real no fuss New York diner! Amazing!

Not a “ Coffee Shop” but earns it high rating.

By _deehumphrey253 |

We stopped here after a visit to the United Nations complex. It is rated as one of the city’s best coffee shops. I wouldn’t call this a coffee shop. That being said we were very pleased with out lunch. I had a great Reuben sandwich with corned beef. Not only was it tasty but was open face so I could cut individual bites. Service was prompt and extremely courteous. We highly recommend this little corner rest. for a quick tasty meal.

Best breakfast near UN

By 62elle |

We stayed at a hotel close by who wanted to charge $60 each for breakfast! Well for around $7-$10 you can get a great plate of diner style breakfast and coffee at John’s. Very busy but they don’t rush you. We had eggs, bacon , toast and home fries twice! The French Toast was also really great!

Visiting

By dianagile |

By Tony M |

Visited John's twice for breakfast on a recent trip to New York. Friendly staff, good food, proper NYC vibe.

Affordable but delicious!

By Anna |

Excellent breakfast, finally an affordable place to eat. The service was good and fast, portion sizes are really worth the money and everything we had was just good and tasty. Traditional diner with all you can drink-coffee.

The real deal

By Cal |

My wife and I were visiting New York and wanted a quick breakfast at a reasonably priced diner. Excellent good value food with a chilled diner feel. Would definitely recommend.

This is great casual breakfast and lunch spot.

By Fran Murphy |

I ordered from the regular menu, Eggs benedict. What a surprise complete with coffee and a fresh ripe fruit salad and fabulous home fries crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The service was warm and prompt. The coffee was hot and tasty.

John’s Coffee Shop

By Nick A |

Visited three times during our recent trip to NYC as just a few blocks from our hotel. Great food each time with good range of menu choices. Staff were friendly and service good. Mainly locals which was nice and felt very much like the kind of breakfast diner you may see on an American TV show. Was expensive relative to UK prices but comparable to other eateries we tried while in the US. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous place for breakfast

By Julia Martin |

Fabulous place for breakfast. We went here 3 times during our 5 day trip. Great service and felt like a proper NYC diner. Loved it!

Fantastic!

By Tom B |

Our first time in New york and Johns coffee shop was recommended to us. A small proper American style coffee shop where we enjoyed great food, sat by the window and watched the busy new York day come to life. The service was fast and the food was lovely. My chocolate milkshake was the nicest I've ever had! Lovely little place. We plan on returning before we go home. Pictures dont do the food justice

Everything was fine

We tried John's signature sandwiches and all of them were perfect! Friendly staff and quick service!

Ok for a quick bite

By LindseyMc1 |

I got pizza and husband got a meatball panini. Then food was alright but nothing special, prices reasonable and service was fast.

Best place to eat in NYC!

By Déborah97436 |

Really nice place, friendly staff and good food for an affordable price. We went there twice it was cosy and we had tasty eggs Benedict, amazing quesadilla and waffles with fried chicken. Don’t hesitate to go there, it’s the best we had in NYC!

Great morning at John's

By Matt H |

John's was impeccable... food was great, place was incredibly clean, everything was visible... no secrets and no "waiting" for your food. Staff was polite yet efficient... I told the owner it was a work of art to watch his team so in-sync with one another. Could've sat there all day and watched service happen... amazing. And that Apple Crisp... tooooo gooooodddd!!

Great Diner!

By H175Driver |

We were staying in New York for the week and didn't want to pay for the hotel's average expensive breakfast! John's was a short walk from our hotel and we ended up eating in there every day! It is good value quality food with lots of coffee and a great buzzy atmosphere. It always seems to be busy and on a couple of days we had to queue but it didn't take long to get a table. Well worth a visit.

Breakfast

By Andrew G |

Absolutely amazing breakfast. We had pancakes bacon fried egg, unlimited coffee. Perfect anniversary breakfast Well recommended A****

Great breakfast

By KnorFromDenmark |

Same breakfast every day for a week. 2 eggs sunny side up, bacon, toast and butter on the side. On day three the waitress just knew. Everyting was good

Great traditionel dinner breakfast

By Eyxjones |

Had a great eggs and bacon + greek youghurt breakfast. Nice and quick service. Good quality food. Would come back

Good typical NYC diner

By Hurlz |

Surprised there were so few decent breakfast/brunch places in Midtown. Went by John’s and had a great time. Good typical diner experience. Food was fair to good. Eggs are (not sure why) very good. Fresh OJ! Decent sausage links. Smaller place but very efficient. Worth a visit!

Very good - but single use plastic

By Anatole C |

Food was excellent and the atmosphere is great. But they have single use plastic in their restaurant: plastic straws, plastic thingy for the milk. Apart from this it was really good.

This place is superb and feels like real NYC!!!

By Dave F |

Been here three times in 5 days. Anticipate to be here 2 more days :) tried other local diners around...we're staying in Pod like many of you reading this will be...so when they pop up, ignore them and come here.

Awesome Breakfast

By Craig17 |

Super fast service, food was awesome. Corner of 2nd Ave and 44th. Get the breakfast burrito, but honestly everything the four of us had was great.

Fast and affordable

By Carly S |

We found this spot when googling a close cafe to our hotel . Not only was their a minimum wait for a seat , the prices for breakfast was VERY affordable. Service was very fast and friendly. The breakfast was really good , and the coffee was fantastic. They even gave us a cup to-go when we finished up ! A must if you are in the area .

a great breakfast place

By bluephilip1967 |

We found this place via google maps and what a great find. A proper breakfast, friendly staff (well all but the girl who takes your money!) and regular coffee top ups. It was the only time in 5 days in NYC when I looked at a bill and thought 'that's reasonable!! They also have specials on the board for evening meal and they look delicious. It's a pity we couldn't return to try them.

Great place

By rowanNottingham |

We ate here a few times on our last visit to NY and decided to go again. Infact we ate their most mornings. Great choice of food and great tasting. All staff very efficient the place runs like clock work. Not touristy either. Will def be back next time in NY

Great little find! A*

By Coxy1987 |

Wow what a great little find! Popped in to grab a coffee and ended up using it for our entire trip in NYC for breakfast! Super quick service and great food! Loved being able to watch the kitchen team prepare everything! Will certainly be recommending to everyone back home when the visit the city!

Unfriendly service

By Christian B |

Have had breakfast here with four of us. The food was ok. The waitress was very unfriendly, annoyed and showed it clearly. She made us as tourists really pressured to be as fast as possible, while the locals could eat in peace.

5* service and the best coffee ever

By Vanessa B |

Absolutely 5*, the best coffee we have had!!! We liked it so much we ended up here for breakfast every day during our trip. A truly amazing diner with wonderful staff.

Nice little breakfast diner

By H. Schulz |

A nice busy little diner in midtown, NYC. A mix of locals, business people and tourists. Had breakfast nearly everyday of my visit in NYC, staff was quick, the breakfast very well, prices were o.k.

Amazing first diner visit!

By Bonnibelle T |

We had a fantastic time! The staff were wonderful, the food was delicious, and it was my first experience at an American diner – I absolutely loved it. The Eggs Benedict were amazing (especially the non-fatty bacon!). Highly recommended!

A wonderful spot for breakfast!

By Joe N |

John's Coffee Shop is everything you want in a little breakfast diner. It's good food, good coffee and good prices. I want to be a regular at this place!

Check your tab!

By Sean |

Food is very good and reasonably priced, but please check your bill, the waiter just scribbled o load of unreadable words on our tab and tried to over charge us by $40 extra on our $70 breakfast! Check your tab folks!!!

If you are a tourist don’t go.

By Lindsey W |

Total let down, treats tourists as second class. Came as a family of 4 for proper American breakfast having read good reviews. Arrived excited. The staff seated the locals who came in after us but physically barged past my little one in front of the staff, to the only table of four and split us in odd seats by the bar not together. They didn’t care at all for any non regulars.

Johns Coffee Shop

By Sightseer624310 |

Visited with my daughter for breakfast. Tried the pancakes and bacon, delicious. Waffles where amazing and the eggs with corn beef hash was a winner. Service was fast and friendly with refillable coffee. Price was great for New York.

If you don't know the concept dinner

By L C |

It's the American dinner, like I've always seen in TV shows or movies. You had to try. You can choose between counter or table. Simple but quality food - Popular local brunches and breakfasts - Unlimited coffee. Quick service Unbeatable value for money. In New York, it tastes better. I recommend

Our regular for breakfast during our stay

By Sclark2905 |

This coffee shop is very traditional and very genuine - the prices are reasonable and food is good. There is a good choice, but our regular was eggs (any way you like) with home fries and toast and jam. Coffee refilled as often as you want.

Great little Diner

By Niamh42 |

We found Johns on the second day of our 4 day trip and that was where we got our breakfast after that, great food, coffee and service. Busy spot but that only shows how popular this place is with the locals and the staff are really friendly and accommodating.

Great start to day.

By jwa |

Excellent. Had breakfast burrito( superb potato rosti came with it) and french toast with bacon..nice mellow coffee. Pleasant service. Bill was 21.75$ .will be back but long way from Scotland.

Lovely Diner

By Liz |

Stayed in the Westin Grand Central and found this diner just a few minutes walk away. Had breakfast there each day, delicious food, reasonably priced and very friendly staff.

The NYC breakfast diner we had hoped for.

By Chris G |

A family holiday week in NYC, staying at the UN Plaza, with John's as the ideal local start to the day. A good menu featuring eggs, bacon, sausage and fries, pancakes, waffles, coffee refills, fresh juice etc. all of the highest quality. The busy staff and ever changing custom give the place a fine morning buzz. All this and at reasonable prices, what's not to like?

Amazing American experience

By L'aquila |

The coffee shop is an amazing experience of the local tastes, in short a typical American. Starting from breakfast to the lunch and dinner, all are simple but extremely satisfying. The menu includes from eggs to meat etc options. All are enough for hungry expectations. The staff are friendly and the location is cozy. I suggest for all occasions.

Excellent breakfast in New York

By Utazó 28 |

I think it was the best breakfast in New York. The food was fresh and very delicious. Highly recommended this place. The service was excellent.

Delicious Breakfast!

By Kevin13059 |

Nice and delicious Breakfast! Love the Eggs Benedict (served on a weekend or holiday). Prices very good for NYC! Staff very attentive and friendly.

Breakfast-not so great

By SarasotaBill |

After reading the raving reviews, we walked over to John's for breakfast. It's a classic dinner, well organized for high volume. The wait staff are incredibly efficient and friendly, but if you're not ready to order in a NY minute, they move on to take care of another table. My wife ordered the granola with yogurt which she looked a lot. The ingredients are fresh and high quality. I ordered the John's omelette. Unfortunately, the omelette was dry and overcooked. The coffee is very good, respect for a diner and the prices are totally reasonable. I'm gonna try another diner in the neighborhood next time.

A little gem

By Sarah |

We just had an awesome and huge breakfast here. It’s not posh but it is busy and friendly. A little queue helped us know we were in for a treat. Five minutes wait was so worthwhile

Typical, very lively, delicious, very good address

By Jam N |

If you are looking for a hearty brunch, lots of choices, in a nice atmosphere, go for it! Lots of people but we take good care of you

not deserving of top diner list status

By russwuf |

For a place to have "Coffee " in it's name you would expect the coffee to be good. Furthermore if you are rated in the list of top diners in NYC you would expect food and service to be better than good. Sadly John's Coffee Shop fails on both accounts. First, the coffee had a weak burnt taste that made it very unappealing. Well, failing the first cup asked for another hoping the first was an anomaly well it was more of the same burnt weak blah taste. Honestly if seems as if the coffee system hasn't been cleaned adequately because it was the worst diner coffee ever I have tasted in NYC. Secondly the service was very matter of fact and not very personable and friendly . We had to ask for refills and things that an attentive staff would have looked for as a matter of course was something lacking. The food was good and acceptable but again to be on the top diner list much more is expected which this one fell sorely short.

Great diner!

By Jayne H |

We have eaten here 3 times this week. Amazing place with great food and friendly helpful staff! Loved the banana and nut pancakes and the toasted reuben. Would highly recommend.

Great food but disappointing service.

By Sam B |

Family came here for breakfast after being recommended by a friend. Diner was small and quite busy, a little plain but looked nice. Hostess told us we could be seated in ten minutes but would have to wait outside in the rain as there was nowhere to stand inside that wasn’t in the way. We were quite hungry so we agreed and ten minutes later we were seated. Ordered coffees which we were told were refills and they were bought over. After viewing our menus we ordered and the wait wasn’t too long. Food was delicious, I had pancakes with syrup with eggs and bacon alongside. Waiter didn’t return to check on meal so we asked as one went by for more coffee as we’d finished. Didn’t return so we asked again a while later and they came back with a coffee pot. After we finished and cleared away the waiter stood by the table for ages while writing on a notepad our bill and then left it on the table. We could not read his writing at all so had to work out for ourselves that everything was accounted for. We called him back over and he explained what everything was one by one. After he disappeared again we realised that even with what we’d ordered being correct and with the added tax, he’d overcharged us by $40. We called him back over again and explained, he took the bill and got out a calculator in front of us to check. He noted that our maths was right and that our $110 breakfast for four was actually $70. We paid in cash and then left, feeling content that our bellies were full, but disappointed by the service. A busy morning and a huge maths error perhaps, but while I’d recommend the food, maybe check bill before you’re way overcharged!

Amazing diner

By jessbrady02 |

We stopped here after seeing great reviews online and it did not disappoint! We had the oreo pancakes and they were amazing. There was a great friendly atmosphere and it had a classic american diner feel.

Breakfast with Teenagers

By hay164 |

We found this lovely Cafe on our last day, which was a shame as this was the best we had for breakfast in 5 days in New York. The food was fresh and had no extra sugars added to the food, extra fresh coffee and service were good. The price, compared to other Diners we had been to earlier in the week was great we had 3 coffees, 4 breakfasts and juice for $79.00, Would recommend you pop in here.

Fast turnover of tables - best for groups of 4 or less

By BriardM0m |

We came on a Sunday morning and there was a group of people huddled inside waiting for a table, while we debated the other breakfast options in the area, a table came open. We were seated, ordered, ate and picked up carry out in under 40 minutes. Since the place is small, they need to turn tables quickly and that they did. My husband had the chocolate chip pancakes and they were fluffy, but the griddle burned the chocolate giving it a bitter taste. I had the avocado toast which is on the Sunday Special list. It came with cup of fruit, eggs, and hash browns. The hash browns were lightly cooked. The avocado mash was so cold and plentiful that it stayed cold even after sitting on the toast. It was good value meal, but not the place to relax or sit and talk to friends over coffee.

Amazing food, friendly staff and reasonable prices: what else?

By mario-voyager |

We had lunch at John's Coffe Shop after an interesting visit at UN headquarters (also highly recommended!). It is a real American diner with few tables but fast service, so waiting time is very short. Food was delicious, including warm soup, real burgers and cheese-cake. Coffee is of course "core business" and really excellent. Highly recommended!

Excellent breakfast

By Theeditor63 |

We were looking for a good place in Manhattan where we could enjoy a classic American-style breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, coffee, maple juice, etc. Here we found it

Good diner

By phelan24647 |

Great spot for a reasonably priced breakfast - really busy spot but service is very quick with a good menu. Went one morning and came back two more days.

Great Find

By cashel2017 |

Great place to eat , just what we wanted to find to say we had been to a real New York diner . Fast friendly service and great food . The corned beef hash with eggs over easy set me up for the day and we ate there every morning .

Breakfasts and service amazing

By Sharon O |

Stayed in Manhattan for 5 days. We found John’s cafe on our 2nd day. Never ate breakfast anywhere else after. Nothing was too much trouble. Freshly prepared breakfasts. You can watch the chef cook your meal. Bottomless coffee and nice too. Proper service with a smile. Thank you to all of you for starting our full days off with proper hospitality

Great breakfast

By mikjep |

John's Coffee shop was about a block from my hotel so I decided to try it for breakfast. It was busy but I was seated right away. I had a delicious breakfast of corned beef and eggs and great service that kept my coffee cup full. It is obvious why there was a steady flow of customers at John's Coffee shop.

1st trip to NYC

By Sarah B |

So came across this hidden gem 5 min walk from our hotel and soon as we walked in knew it would be a hit the breakfasts are amazing great service big portions and friendly staff at good prices so we visited every morning for breakfast ! Xx

Great time

By Heloise |

Great welcome from all the staff for our small family with grandchild. Very hearty meal, very good and very fresh. Everyone enjoyed it.

Stunning pancakes

By Fiona J |

Ate here twice during our trip as we enjoyed it the first time and found it good value. I had pancakes both times, PB&J highly recommended. My husband has a tropical Waffle which was delicious. Food is a good portion and very filling. Table service with attentive staff refilling your coffee as needed. Good value for money.

Fast and efficient

By Patricia C |

Got a decent breakfast here and service was quick. This was about 7:27 AM before any crowd got here . A good pick when you are staying at Hilton Millennium and want something within walking distance. I had the French toast which was very good. .. not dry.

Not the Best of Diners

By Linda May K |

If you like omelets, this might be a place for you. The selection was pretty good. However, I didn't try any of these, so I can't say anything about the quality. But if the meal I ate is representative, I wouldn't expect much. Everything I was served was low-quality "cheap stuff". I was completely overlooked once my meal arrived. I asked the waitress for a glass of water, but she didn't bring it t before I asked for the check 15 minutes later once I finally caught her attention to ask to pay. It was fairly busy, but not that busy that I couldn't get a glass of water or offer of refill of hot water for my tea. Eventually, another waiter passed so I could ask him. None of the staff wore a mask, which is a bit concerning.

Fast delivery

By RMichaels |

I ordered a plate of blueberry pancakes and it was delivered very quickly by grubhub- I wish they had a sign in the window that stated they had other food because I walked by and didn't realize they served food until I looked up delivery options another day. The prices are very good for NYC. The pancakes were tasty and they have good breakfast options all day.

A great place to eat

By Tim |

My eggs and toast were really good. Very tasty. The service at the counter was very good. Nice atmosphere.

Delicious breakfast

By Evie C |

We stayed around the corner at the Wyndham and they highly recommended John's Coffee Shop. We enjoyed it so much that we made it our breakfast stop for the rest of our stay. The food was very good, the service excellent, the prices very reasonable for New York City, and the atmosphere was that welcoming, comfortable neighborhood feel that is a delight to see in such a big city.

Great food, great service

By ruthl224 |

We were staying in the westin, grand central and found John’s coffee shop a short walk away. We ate breakfast there most days and also had other meals. There was a good choice served by extremely friendly and helpful staff. Definitely a recommendation!

Great NY breakfast in Midtown

By Ildiko T |

The place was just at the corner of our hotel so I googled it before our visit and decided to visit one morning. Nice staff, good atmosphere with mostly local diners. We got the chocolate chips pancakes, a cheese & bacon toast and the eggs Benedict. Everything was tasty and good value for money. Coffee is good too! Very authentic place I can only recommend .

Big portions... great price

By drewsue521 |

We came here most days for Breakfast, food was very nice friendly staff and as always in USA big portions. You should get here early if you want breakfast as it gets busy. I had a lovely Greek yogurt/berries/granola breakfast 2 days in a row, tried the eggs Benedict my only complaint was the muffins were tough I couldn't eat them but the rest of it was good. Would go back again.

great diner

By Tunaidi |

Great local diner. Great food, reasonable prices, and quick service. Weekend brunch has some fun items on their menu for a change of pace as well.

Delicious coffee

By Anant K |

I had delicious pancakes here with coffee and place is fabulous for breakfast very good staff and happy atmosphere

Delicious Breakfast!!

By Sterlands |

Our hotel was just nearby so we decided to try John's for breakfast and it was amazing! It is a small but very busy coffee shop but we were seated straight away by a really friendly waitress. We had pancakes with maple syrup and bacon and they were delicious. We had plenty of coffee refills and went away feeling very full and happy - a traditional American Coffee Shop. We visited twice whilst on holiday. Definitely give it a try.

Great breakfast cafe

By Dan W |

What an amazing little cafe. Found it by mistake once on a walk and keep going back for breakfast every trip I get to NY. The staff are so friendly and the food is amazing
