We went here for pizza before going to the theater. It's a unique building and ambience. Luckily we got there early because we had to wait an hour for a table. Then it took another 30 minutes to get our pizza, which was underwhelming. The crust was crispy, but overall it was bland and definitely not worth the price. Customer service was good though, and everyone was very nice.

First saw John's on a blog that we started watching when we began to plan this return trip to New York. It had a lot of great reviews. They were not lying. The pizza was good. The service was good, and the views on the inside were AWESOME.

Go here often and not as good as it used to be, but it’s ok. I do like the different toppings one can get and the crust is better than most crust in NY. That’s the standout and the toppings are very good. Otherwise is pretty much average NY pizza - a step above rays/street pizza or something. Please note the Margarita is actually Patsys pizza/apertivo pizza etc - that chain. May have same owner or definitely at least distributor. Pretty good though, just not close to the best in the city as some claim.

We got a cheese pizza and a ham and pineapple pizza. Both were delicious, but we enjoyed the cheese the most. The sauce and cheese flavors were both delicious.

Skip this and head over to Bleecker Street for the real experience…… That’s if you want excellent pizza. We had dinner before a show. My salad ( John’s salad) was ok and the grilled chicken on it was well seasoned . My friend’s pasta with Marinara sauce was underwhelming. Needs improvement! And it’s very expensive…. $28 for a salad. Not coming back.

I was happy enough just because this large restaurant could seat our party of 10 on a Friday night with little wait after a long day of traveling. The setting is an old church which is neat. It’s a bit loud. The pizza was adequate but nothing to rave over.

After a very rainy day spent in Midtown, we were after some comfort food. We sought out John's Pizza having seen recommendations online and its a short walk from Times Square. The restaurant was quiet when we visited, just before 5:00 on a super rainy midweek afternoon, so no problem getting a table. The interior is also pretty special, being a former church which has kept its impressive stained glass ceiling. A whole pizza is huge and big enough for 2 to share, we chose a half an half enabling us to get the best value for our $30, carb comfort whilst we dried out!

The food was delicious. We had garlic cheese bread and pizza. The service was slow -but they were very busy. The bathrooms were disgusting. They looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in days.

Two large pizzas(2 toppings each)and 2 sodas for $100! They were not any better than any neighborhood pizza in the US. Been to much better in the city. Service was pleasant. At 3pm on a weekday and very slow. Can't imagine on a weekend. Not returning.

My favorite pizza every time we visit the city. Convenient and nice atmosphere. Attentive staff. Have never had anything bad at this restaurant and I always send friends and family there. Pricing is as expected. Highly recommend!

Went for lunch upon our arrival in NY—not a coincidence, as it had been on my list for a long time. I was thinking of having pizza, but when we got there, I saw spaghetti and meatballs on the menu, and that is one of my favorite dishes, so I went for it and I don’t regret it! Best spaghetti and meatballs on earth! The place is amazing and, of course, a must-see when in NY due to its history and now, I can say, also because the food is great and the staff is super friendly and polite. I will be back when I’m in NY

What a cool atmosphere and building. We enjoyed our food here. It was quick in coming and very delicious! We could have lingered here longer due to ambiance but had to leave soon to get to where we were headed next unfortunately.

We went here after a Saturday evening performance. Great margherita pizza, friendly and helpful waiter, very clean,. I will recommend this place to family and friends.

This is my first review….ever. And I’m not negative nor a complainer. I have been here several times in the past and it was always good and I loved the atmosphere. I went last night before our Broadway show. It was early so it was not busy at all. Waiter was nice. Food was sadly not good at all. Just trying to save you from making my mistake. It was annoyingly bad. Like “I wasted my precious time on a really bad meal”bad. Pizza was very below average and pasta had zero flavor. Just don’t.

We visited John’s on our first evening in the city. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, super busy but we visited on the week before Christmas so wouldn’t expect anything else. Would return if I go back to New York.

Great pizza, interesting character, and great service. The place is huge because it was a church that was converted into the pizzeria. Because the place is huge and close to theaters we noticed it is popular for large groups in early evening. The staff does a great job accommodating them so they are not disturbing for other patrons. Pizza is excellent and try the garlic rolls (in the attached pics).

I've been a fan of John's for years, but I'm afraid to say, this location continues to disappoint, and it's gettign worse. I've been the Bleeker st dozens of times and I lived near the Johns on 63rd street so I'm very familiar with it. But I think the TS location hires people who simply don't know what they're doing. Several times I got a pie that was soupy and raw and that was after stating I wanted it well done. This is just a tourist spot where they're leaning on their reputation. For what they charge, I'd pass.

Having been before an advance party of 2 of us went to get a buzzer before the rest of our party joined us and were able to get a beer quickly and had room to chat with other patrons waiting for a table. The place was rammed but we only had to wait 40 minutes for a table by which time the other 6 had joined us. The menu was varied and the servers recommended the smaller of the pizzas for us, as we wanted 4 to share and it was still massive. They were huge with lots of toppings and very tasty. The others were very happy with their meals

This pizza is actually really good although the pepperoni is kinda spicy but still amazing pizza really good

I’m confused by some of the recent poor reviews on here. We felt that the food was absolutely delicious (I had cheese ravioli, we shared a two-topping pizza) as was my cocktail, an espresso martini. The decor is very interesting, being in a former church, and I felt gave a very welcome vibe. We did not have trouble with the noise level I see people complaining about, and we were there at lunchtime on a Saturday! The service was quick and friendly, and I felt our server was attentive. She also did a good job of explaining pizza comes at a different time than other food, and we had no issue with that, it was within a minute or two that we had all food on the label. We were seated next to the brick oven and enjoyed watching how the pies are made. I absolutely recommend this restaurant! Yes, it’s pricy, but you’re also eating in Times Square, so every place in that area is pricey. Would definitely come back.

The restaurant looks so small from the inside, but it is a gorgeous and large space on the inside. We sat on the third level overlooking the beautiful mural. The service was excellent and efficient. They never let our water glass get empty. The food was just average. The pizza was just ok. We got the margarita and the sauce was too bland, needed more punch with the tomatoes. Much better pizza options around.

Visited John's Pizza last night. Place was very busy but we got in within 10 minutes. We did not realize how huge the place is. Very deceiving from the street. Waiter was very busy, but friendly and super efficient. We shared a Margherita pie. Super hot and delicious! Prices were fair for NY. Had a short conversation with the floor manager who was quite charming and friendly. Definitely will be back.

Stopped by a couple of nights post theatre for their delicious pizza. Always reliable. I think many other places in NYC have increased their prices in recent years, but I don't think that was the case here. So although still pricey, it seems reasonable for NYC.

This is my third or fourth trip to John's and this was the first time we had been disappointed in our pizza. We got the margherita pizza which was remarkably bland, especially since they had generously sprinkled basil all over it. Everything else about our experience was good - service friendly and quick. We got there right after they had opened (11:30) and got right in - they were folks waiting by the time we left (12:15).

We stumbled upon this place in the theater district. We couldn’t believe how delicious our food was! The Caesar salad was the best I’ve ever had and the thin crust brick oven pizza was delicious. It seemed like they used better quality cheeses than most places. I’ll be back for dinner next time!

John’s does not disappoint. The atmosphere, location, service, food and price point- spot on. It’s one of those places that just makes me happy!! A must in Times Square!

Great pizza. A little pricey but it taste better than most. Wood fired ovens. Fresh ingredients and service is top notch.

We stopped off for pizza and weren't disappointed it was fresh and hot. Only disappointment was that my husband asked for draught and was brought a bottle and it can get noisy

Generally very good service during our visit. However this was on day 4 of our 5 day trip to NYC and the first meal my wife and I shared. That evening we both had horrendous stomach cramps and severe diarrhoea from the shrimp pizza. Could not of been anything else. I did email the restaurant and left if a few days without any acknowledgment or reply from them. Just be mindful. No doubt a reply will be forthcoming now

On our first day NYC we decided to eat a pizza at this restaurant. Great location and atmosphere. Seats/tables were quit old, and demolished. They have to refurbish this in my opinion. We had to wait around 15 minutes for a table, but we were invited to have a drink at the bar which was all very relaxed. Staff is very friendly. Had some starters at first. Calamaris and garlic bread were decent. Good portions and fresh. Pizza’s were extremly good as well. We expected the margharita pizza to have more cheese on it, but it was all good. It is a great place to have some fast dinner. It is crowded, very American and quit old fashioned, but the friendly staff, delicious food made this negative points become obscured.

The atmosphere at Johs was nostalgic as it once served as a church, and the stained glass windows are still in the building. We got 2 margarita pizzas, and I have to say they did not skimp on he basil. Most times, you get a piece or two on each slice, but there was plenty. One in our group had the spinach ravioli, and they said it was excellent as well. I had a spritz, and it made me feel like I was back in Venice. Great service from Johns and would definitely return again.

Italian food in an old church. So much for the frame. In addition the pizzas are very good and can choose the size and ingredients. Really nothing to say. And the waiters are nicer. Correct Award for New York

John’s is the place to be. I tell you what, you will get the best hospitality and food in Times Square. JC and Rob will take care of you and make your experience a 10/10. Even on Thanksgiving week, the service was amazing and the staff makes sure they get you sat as soon as you can. We were fortunate to sit at the bar with JC. Again, we had a 10000/10 experience and I will make sure I share this with my friends and family who visit NYC often.

Hostess was great. She handled a lot of people in a short amount of time. Waitress was nice but inattentive. My glass was bone dry before I received another glass of iced tea. Food came out quickly and was hot. However, the arrabbiata sauce was not spicy. The shrimp fra diavola was missing one thing…the shrimp. And when it came time for the Parmesan cheese, they brought a shaker to the table. Even Olive Garden grates the Parmesan for your main course.

Food was decent. Seated quickly. My daughter ordered pasta and my other daughter and I ordered pizza and antipasta. The pasta came out a half hour before the pizza and they did not put in the antipasta. Cool atmosphere though. Just don’t expect a high quality experience.

Welcome to New York City! Only place I’ve ever been where you can eat pizza and drink beers in church. A beautiful cathedral from the 1800’s. Stained glass, choir loft, everything except the pipe organ. Most excellent atmosphere to enjoy a meal. The pizza is the best I’ve ever had. Perfect smoky flavor. Excellent craft beers on tap as well. Service is fast and efficient and price is reasonable. I will be coming back every time I’m in town. Highly recommended!

Having returned to NYC after a few years, we wanted to try this restaurant again. The pizza is always very good and far above American standards. The location, in a former theatre, is very particular and evocative. Average prices and friendly staff. A landmark in NYC

Ducked into this place to get out of the rain and have a quick bite and wow did we get a surprise when we saw the interior. We knew nothing about the place and it looked fairly unassuming on the outside, google told us afterwards that the building was previously a church, and a beautiful one at that. We had Bruschetta to start then a 'small' pepperoni pizza, we were ordering large but the waiter advised us that the small was plenty big and boy was he right. We really enjoyed our meal but as we were getting ready to go people started streaming in, mostly teenagers in huge groups, we assume they were eating before heading to the theatre. The place was soon packed to the rafters and very noisy and we were very glad to escape. A great place to eat in beautiful surroundings but don't go for an early dinner if you don't like crowds. Or teenagers.

Once again, Tripadvisor did not disappoint. This place is fantastic and easy to get to. I had a pepperoni and anchovy pie since I was there solo and could order exactly what I wanted! BTW, Ishmael gave top-notch service.

The pizza was only ok, the service inattentive. The slices at countless small stands throughout the city are tastier and bigger. John’s may be convenient but there are still better choices even in Times Square.

I had high hopes for John's Pizzeria, given its reputation as a Times Square staple. The restaurant itself is spacious, making it a good option for groups looking to grab a bite in the heart of NYC. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the hype. The service was average-nothing particularly memorable, but nothing disastrous either. However, the food left much to be desired. The meatball & spaghetti was the biggest letdown of the night. The sauce leaned too heavily on the sour side, lacking the rich, savory depth that makes a great marinara shine. As for their famous pizza, it was... fine. But for a place that claims legendary status, I expected much more. The tomato-based sauce lacked balance, tipping toward salty and sour rather than delivering the perfect harmony of flavours. Dessert didn't redeem the meal either. The New York cheesecake and tiramisu were passable but far from standout. Overall, John's Pizzeria might be a convenient stop for tourists, but if you're searching for the best pizza in NYC, there are far better options.

Our first time at John's was a great experience. We were told we had a 40 minute wait on a Saturday night but 15 minutes later, we were seated in one of balconies with great views of the entire space and holiday decorations. Our server greeted us quickly and took our order. We had garlic rolls and margarita pizza. Everything was delicious and worth NY prices. We'd return

From the instant I set foot in John's Pizza, the enticing scent of golden-baked crust paired with a robust tomato sauce wafted through the air, promising a culinary delight. The establishment radiates a cozy, old-world charm with its vintage-themed decor, taking you on a nostalgic trip to classic pizzerias. Their signature Pepperoni pizza is a must-try – thin crust that's crispy on the edges yet tender in the middle, generously topped with spicy pepperoni slices and melted mozzarella that stretches with every bite. The staff exudes warmth and professionalism, ensuring that every guest feels valued. For an authentic and memorable pizza experience, John's Pizza stands unparalleled!

The pizza is delicious, the atmosphere is pleasant and the price is very fair! It’s definitely worth it for families, especially with children!

This spot is great if you are looking for a good pizza and drink in a cheerful environment with great music and great customer service in a historic location.

In a sea of expensive food places, this was an island of good food at a reasonable price with great service. Great atmosphere too🏖️

One of my favourites in the city - great pizzas, large portions. A little concerning that their food inspection rating has dropped from an A to a B though, given nearly everywhere else is rated A nearby - it almost put me off going.

My family has dined at John's since the 60's, but since the pandemic, John's has resorted to a much lower grade of mozzarella and blander sauce. The garlic knots were good though. Pizza was greasy (dined here 3x since pandemic) and the sauce under-spiced. It's not terrible, and many notches above the chain pizza places, but this is not the same John's. I'd rather pay more for better quality ingredients, but this wasn't it.

Amazing New York brick oven pizza. Right in the theater/ Times Square area. Beautiful old building with murals and fantastic architecture inside. We stopped in for lunch of wings and pizza, great flavor, quick service, would recommend highly.

Our Friday matinée ended around 4:30p and we wandered in around 5p. We really wanted to eat a bit later, yet didn’t want to go back to the hotel, then return to eat. So, we got on the waitlist, got a seat at the bar, had a few drinks, then our table was called after about 20 minutes. During that time, most of New York filed in behind us and was waiting for tables; you never saw so many people! Our conclusion? 5p bueno, 5:30p no bueno! Our waiter, while busy, kept tabs on us and took care of us like the good ones do. Our pizza was fabulous…with no leftovers. The venue is fantastic, as is the food and staff. I don’t like waiting an hour for anything, so our timing rocked…as did John’s!

Loved our visit here. The pizza was great, generous toppings and a nice crispy base. Service was very friendly and food came quickly. Really nice atmosphere in the old church. Me and my friend shared the small pizza for lunch and it was the perfect size. Wish I lived closer so I could come back!

A place without any charm. Minimized contact with staff. You should not go there to find an Italian atmosphere. It's chain pizza distribution, and what pizza! I felt like I was eating a cheap commercial pizza, except the prices here are much more expensive. Tasteless tomato sauce, low-end cheese... In short, this is definitely not the place to go to Manhattan to eat good pizza.

Pizza is good and one of the few with a ton of indoor seating but the line starts to form early before they open and the wait for service does not follow the order in which you were seated, so can take a while.

Typical American pizzeria that blends local tastes with pizza with an Italian taste. Friendly and helpful staff. Negative note the bathrooms, not quite the best

I read John’s Pizzeria at Times Square was one of the best places in a travel guide to enjoy excellent NYC style pizza, so I took my wife there for lunch. We arrived right when they opened at 11:30 AM, and seated at a booth. The service here is very attentive and took our orders. Got a small pepperoni and mushroom pizza and a Caesar Salad. The ambiance of this place reeks old NYC mixed with Italian. There was a small bar in front and lots of table seating. The restroom was a closet but not normal in the city. First the salad arrived and it was huge. Nothing super special about it where is was very consistent of an above average salad and enjoyed it very much. The pizza arrived and was placed on a stand to where had to reach up to get a slice. The pizza was loaded with toppings and was very hot. The cheese was so good and so was the crunchy crust. I had all types of pizza and this one was among the best I had.

Terrific find, reasonable prices. Cool location, in an old church close to theatres in midtown. Food was great, served hot and in a timely fashion. Thin crust, light and crispy, sauce had good flavour. Garlic knots were lovely.

My family have been going to John’s on Bleecker for over 60 years. I’ve been dining at the Times Square location for about 15 years. Never have I had a problem with the food - but the past 3 years, quality has diminished greatly. Last year, John’s resorted to a low grade mozzarella and cheap flour. The pizza is not the same. It taste ok, but it’s not mind blowing the way it once was. Cheap ingredients make cheap pizza - but this place is not cheap in price. Apparently John’s is now only for tourists with weak taste buds. Very disappointing.

Good Pizza Large, very tasty. But Gluten free option very limited and pizza was very small. So I can advise not for celiac people.

Nice to see the place decorated for Xmas. Places was super busy at 430 on a Friday so we sat at the bar till table was ready. Bartender was great. We order the garlic rolls which were great, house salad and. A large pepperoni & sausage pizza. Pizza by far was top 2 of the best pizza I have ever eaten. Service was on point. Only reason for the 4 stars was the bathrooms were disgusting. Have seen cleaner porter Potties at a summer concert at the end of they night. We mentioned it to the waitress and the staff attended to the women’s bathrooms. We will be back again

We visited John’s Pizzeria in New York and definitely recommend making a reservation. We didn’t have one and had to wait around 40 minutes for a table. It felt a bit strange as we noticed several empty tables once we were seated. Nevertheless, the pizza was excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive. Overall, a great experience and we would come back!

We went to this establishment twice - we saw 2 shows at the Majestic across the street so it was convenient. They're open for patrons after the show. But we felt very rushed -- they're open, but they want to close. So we had to hurry up and order. The food was fine. I had pizza one of the times -- it was tasty. We went in before the show one night as we arrived early and we were freezing. We got a drink from the bar from a snarly bartender. He wasn't happy that night. Not sure I'd go back.

The pizza was good and reasonably priced, considering the location. It seemed to take a while to get food, at a time when restaurant was not too busy. Service was ok. Not bad. Not good. Ok. Big disappointment was no refills on drinks.

John's pizza was my favorite pizzeria in NY, I always went there but I went to the one at 64st and 1ave which unfortunately closed. I decided to go to this one that was closer to home, I must say the style of the place is always the same, but here I found the staff a little rude... I ordered a 6-piece pizza but then immediately after I changed my mind and wanted it to 8 pieces, I told the waiter but he said I already sent the command I can not change it, just send a new command or go there to tell the pizza maker also because our pizza arrived 15 minutes after the order... Then I asked for a bottle of water but nothing he had decided to make me drink what they offer them with ice... The pizza is good but now or here the daisy is covered with basil... in short, an Italian pizza but Americanized. Price for 2 pizzas of 6 pieces, 1 crown and 2 waters 70 dollars... bah In this John's pizza I think I will never go back.

we didn't have reservation and host was nice to sat us the menu was simple but with plenty of options pasta , pizza we had margarita pizza with two toppings and we had couple of cocktails they were high quality definitely recommend it

I'd explored it in internet before traveling to NYC, and it was worth to visit, fantastic eatery serving exclusive thin-crust pizza in Times Square. The atmosphere in this old church building with views of pizza ovens is amazing & the pizza was the best, very flavorful and perfect crust! Not only did we get to watch all our food get made, the toppings were heavy, sauce just right, and crust was slight crisp without falling over. Loved everything and will definitely be back. my favorite-must-stop pizzerias in NYC!! John’s Pizzeria of Times Square is a must-visit for pizza lovers.

We were told by our travel guide ,Johns is the best pizza in Manhattan so we went to check it out last night and had an AMAZING pizza . It was so delicious . Our first time in New York and it did not disappoint. Most definitely a place to check out

Amazing food!! The atmosphere and scenery was beautiful as you can see the pizzas being made. Great service: our food came quickly and we only had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated even though they said it would be 45minutes-1hour. I would recommend the margarita pizza as it was the best one I’d ever had!!

The pizza was good, but pretty much the same as every pizza in NYC (it’s all good). We were expecting a better ambience since the restaurant is in an old church, but it really was nothing special.

There were 4 of us in this restaurant. Although there weren't even 10 tables occupied, we weren't allowed to choose a table. After we ordered, we chose another table (because our table was under the stairs). Then, unfortunately, it started. Our plates were thrown on the table!!! No one asked us about our drinks! No one served us! When we wanted to pay separately, we were told it wasn't possible! Hospitality 0 Service 0 Never again!

We've got a lot of great pizzerias on Long Island, and I know there are even better ones in NY City, so when someone from Manhattan recommends a pizzeria, you prepare to have your socks knocked off. John's came nowhere near even the most average Long Island pizzeria. Nothing we ordered was even close to what we can get at the local joint for a lot less money. I'd say check it out anyway for the "vibe," but there really isn't one. It feels like a dark, dirty cafeteria at best, and if not for the snootiness of the wait staff, I'd never have guessed I was in New York.

The main room is located in an old church and is definitely worth a visit although it is a bit noisy. Pizzas are huge, for a normal appetite a pizza for two is enough, knowing that you can mix it. The dough is crispy!

I stop here for lunch because I notice that it's pretty full so I think the food is good. I had a plate of pasta and I must say that it was quite filling except that the pasta was overcooked. To finish I asked for a coffee and it was undrinkable.

Knives are not sharp. Decent pizza with good sauce, good athmosphere and cool interior. But getting the pizza into the mouth is a real workout due to dull knives. I do my workouts at the gym.

5 star pizza! We came during a busy evening and the wait really wasn’t that terrible maybe 20 minutes. Service was quick and fantastic! The pizza was well worth the wait! Loved the atmosphere . Would highly recommend.

Food was disgusting. Chicken in my daughter’s pasta smelled and tasted really bad, penne vodka were not worth your money. This place is run down, furniture coming from the 70’s without the charm of the 70’s. Floor looks dirty, etc. Pity, as the place could be extraordinary, being an old church… i guess the owner is too stupid to understand he could invest a little bit and make this place fantastic. Or too busy stealing money from customers and tourists. Service was fast . Too fast. They brought the appetizer 2 mins before the pasta, and the pasta 5 mins before the pre-dinner drink. They didn’t even look surprised by this! There are so many pizzerias in nyc, don’t waste your time and money in john’s crappy pizzas and pasta !!!!

I went back after a few years to this place and I share a large Margherita pie: very good. I just don't like the basil because has a flavor of mint. But the food is very good and is not too expensive.

We went to John's Pizzeria by Times Square looking forward to a good meal after reading great reviews. The wait for the pizza was at least half an hour, one of our party had ordered spaghetti with sausage, which came 20 minutes earlier than the pizza and was disappointingly bland . The pizza was dry, lacking in cheese and rather uninspiring. Finally, the rest rooms were unbelievably disgusting, in the ladies there were over flowing bins, no toilet paper. The men's had a blocked toilet and the floor covered with rubbish. Quite shocking for a respected restaurant. Overall a 4 out of 10.

This was delicious pizza. I would go back again for it. We ordered a large Traditional and added pepperoni, and a large Bruschetta. We had just enough for 6 people, with no leftovers. (probably overly hungry from our day adventures). The restaurant was very neat as it is in an old church. They said wait time was an hour. But we were seated and done eating before the hour wait was done.

We decided to try Johns after reading TripAdvisor reviews and it was across the street from a show we watched. We were seated right away near the front window, great for people watching. We each had a beer and ordered a small Bruschetta pizza which was perfect for 2 people. It was delicious.

On a family holiday to NY we promised the kids pizza on our last day. We saw the high ratings on this site and headed in. We were sat almost immediately and asked what we would like for a drink within 10 minutes. After waiting another 20 minutes to order 3 pizzas we then sat and waited, and waited. During the next 50 minutes we watch most of the staff stand around chatting or sitting at a both laughing around. When we asked how much longer it would be we were told rudely that we hadn’t waited that long and it should be another 15 minutes!!!! When they delivered the pizza it was nice but not worth the wait. I did venture to the one toilet available and it was pretty disgusting. Would not go back or recommend to anyone.

I really enjoyed the location and the charming building. The pizza is excellent, with a delightful crust and flavorful sauce. The service is great, and the atmosphere is intriguing. You won't be disappointed with the pizza at John's.

Well I'm a Midwesterner from Ohio and I've not always liked New York style pizza. However, in this old converted church with its stained glass ceiling and brick ovens, both the Pepperoni and Margherita pizzas from those coal fired ovens, i ate at John's were delicious. The pepperoni had a buttery taste to it that I found very unique and memorable and I truly enjoyed the fresh basil on the Margherita pizza. My wife loved, loved, loved the garlic rolls and I ordered a side of the pizza sauce to enjoy extra dipping. It was so good. Above all that, the atmosphere for our first dinner in New York was top notch. Thank you, Mark, for serving us. I especially liked hearing how long most of the staff had been employed there. It says something about a place when it fosters that kind of longevity amongst its employees. Food made, served and consumed in such an environment can be felt. P.S. I liked your pizza better than Bleeker St in Greenwich Village.

Delicious pizza on Times Square. This is not sold by the slice but it’s delicious and worth a stop. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend swinging by if you’re in the area.

The restaurant did not take reservations during our stay a week before Christmas, so the line to get in was long and slow- moving. Of course we ordered pizza as many people recommended we eat there if authentic NY pizza was what we wanted for dinner. The pizza was quite tasty and the toppings plentiful, and they let us share a pizza with different toppings on each half. The service was friendly and fast…once you got seated. You’re gonna wait in line at any restaurant worth eating at in Times Square, so that shouldn’t discourage you from eating at John’s Pizza 😋

I've visited many Italian restaurants near Times Square and unfortunately this one doesn't rank. We planned a late trip to NYC and couldn't get reservations at some of my faves. I've always wanted to visit John's and am glad I did, but, dinners don't rank. Good food but not great. I'll go again but will try pizza. I had shrimp fradiavlo, small portion and maybe 8 shrimp. Chicken parm was large portion, maybe sautéed but no crispness to it. Overall great family option, great atmosphere, service was good.

Last-minute trip to NYC gave us the opportunity to try John’s, knowing we would be waiting anywhere with the peak holiday crowds. It took an hour to be seated, but we had excellent service once we got our booth. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Shared two large pizzas and a salad among four of us. Enjoyed it all and got a chance to relax before heading back out to see the holiday sights.

We went to Johns for a late night dinner after a show and left full and happy! The waiter was amazing (and I feel bad I don’t remember his name). He was so attentive and took excellent care of our table of 7. We ordered two appetizers, two different kinds of pizza and two different pasta dishes and everything was absolutely delicious! We’ll definitely be back when we visit NYC again!

This used to be my favorite spot for pizza in NYC. My recent visit left me disappointed. The “no slices” concept I can respect, but $27 for a plain cheese pie feels excessive and every topping is an additional upcharge. On top of that, soft drinks are already overpriced and they don’t offer refills which just added insult to injury. As someone who grew up in New York I can’t justify supporting a spot that leans so heavily into tourist pricing all day long. The pizza is still solid but the value is gone.

We were sat and ordered pretty quickly. Our food didn’t come until we asked for it and one of the pizzas was very burnt, missing basil (standard topping for a margarita pizza) and missing one of the extra toppings. That small pizza cost us $37. Save your money and go anywhere else for pizza.

We stopped for lunch before the theater. The service was fine and we were not rushed. We ordered a 2 topping small pizza, a house salad and 2 drinks with alcohol. The pizza was ok, nothing special, same for the salad. My gin and tonic again was ok. The bill was $80 before a tip. Tourist pricing I guess.

Lovely restaurant in a converted church. with friendly staff. Good menu and value for money. We would return next time in NY.

Found this restaurant by chance as we wanted a bite to eat before our evening bus tour. My friend and I enjoyed a pepperoni and mushroom pizza it was absolutely delicious. We were due to fly home the next evening so decided to visit for lunch, lol! Pizzas and staff were lovely and don’t have to wait too long for our meal.

Great pizza and atmosphere!! Food was great and food came in less than 10 minutes. They also have a really good tap beer selection.

John’s pizza in Times Square is located in a 19 th century church which was once used for gospel services . You can still see the pulpit and stained glass windows. It is extremely noisy. Impossible to hear a person at your own table ! The pizza is a disappointment . Thin crust, basic, average pizza with tourist prices: $27 for a 6 slice “ traditional” cheese pizza . Every topping is charged extra. Do not confuse this location with the wonderful, delicious John’s pizza on Bleeker Street.

Just off Times Square, John's Pizzeria is in a converted church, though I did not realize it until I read the history. We dropped in for pizza and ordered a large salad with two "small" pizzas for four people. One small pizza would have sufficed. Pizza was good, as was the salad. Walls in front section overlooking 44th Street were covered in caricatures of the city. The main room has a circular stained glass window in the ceiling and open pit ovens. There is also a balcony feature. I'd go back again on another visit.

Service from front of house staff and waiters was good. Garlic bread rolls starter was to die for (the best garlic bread rolls I’ve ever had). We had a large pepperoni pizza for mains and it was to die for. To drink we had pinacokadas which were frozen and very strong (but still tasty) and the bill wasn’t to expensive either. Amazing food and would come back in a heart beat.

Great atmosphere, excellent pizza (wife and I shared calamari and a medium Margherita pizza) in the middle of the theater district. I have visited several times over the last 18 years, never disappointed!

I just love the atmosphere! It's my favorite place to stop when in NY. It's perfectly priced! My daughter and I split a small pizza with 1/2 cheese 1/2 pepperoni and couldn't finish it all! Im sure they have other foods that are just as delicious as their pizza, but ive never been able to try it because im obsessed with the pizza 😋

We asked our hotel concierge where the best sit down pizza restaurant was and in a nano second he replied ‘Johns off Time Square’. We ambled down and got stuck in. Best pizza I’ve had in a long long time. Decent pizza and then some. I’m amazed at some of the reviews moaning it’s expensive - it’s not really, it’s Time Square and I wouldn’t want to pay their rent, but seriously if you think it’s expensive, make your decision when you get handed the menu not afterwards and on line - there’s always those carts on every street corner. Apparently the restaurant is in an old church - I didn’t notice - we have hundreds of old churches on the UK but no decent pizza places. Long story short - I love food and this place is worth a visit. Service fast and friendly too.

I’m a Manhattan local and I think that John’s is 100% the best pizza in New York. This is the perfect spot for dinner before seeing a Broadway show. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, and top-notch food!

A wonderful restaurant in a converted church , ordered a regular pepperoni pizza that was massive ,stone baked in front of us and couldn’t finish it ,they packed the left slices for us to take out , also ordered pasta which was lovely too Great attentive friendly staff and a beautiful setting in the heart of theatre land ask to sit out back for the full experience

Went two days ago as a group and they got the order wrong - went again tonight as family and got the order wrong again- didn’t care or apologise - needless to say we won’t be going again - don’t think they are concerned about service

We arrived at 4.30pm on a Saturday and the wait was only 10 minutes. The restaurant was very interesting and we enjoyed reading about its history. Service was great. We had a large garlic bread (which was far too much for 2 of us) and shared a large pizza. The pizza was amazing and so tasty. Couldn’t fault a thing so thank you. When we left at about 5.30pm the queue was massive so take my advice and get in a bit earlier.

While in NY we were walking back to our hotel when we noticed "John's" and decided to stop in for an early dinner. As we entered, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess who seated us upstairs as it was quieter than the ground floor level where there was a birthday party going on. Moments later our waiter came by to take our drink order, and we had a difficult time on selecting our entrees as everything looked good. We both decided to have the Chicken Parmigiana which was served with pasta and it was very good. Note: that bread wasn't served with the entree and a small salad was available at an extra charge. We didn't request any bread as the entree portions were quite substantial. We couldn't help but notice that the pizza looked fabulous as did the antipasto salad which would have been our second choice. All in all a very good meal with two Italian Beers for $81 plus tip.

A great location! An old theater, so it had a really great feeling. The pizza and wings were delicious, but the service wasn't really good. The pizza was ordered with the wrong toppings and after clearing the table, the bill was practically slammed in front of us. You don't do that.

Absolutely horrible customer service I highly recommend that you don't patronize this place..it's gone way downhill

A friend recommended John’s Pizza and we enjoyed it. The thin crust pizza is excellent. The restaurant is in a church. The atmosphere would be nicer is they upgraded the lighting as it is dark and doesn’t seem like the lights have been updated yet. We would go back to John’s Pizza.

This restaurant is a remodeled church. This is a big restaurant with many tables. There were a lot of waiters working and the food came fast. they served good pizza. The prices is in the middle.

Won’t go into to much detail, the pizza was actually nice but the service was non existent, can’t even used the excuse that they were busy because they wasn’t, even when we complained to a manager he wasn’t really interested, avoid unless you like waiting for 15 mins for someone to take your order

Saw several people taking pictures and selfies. It is neat that it is in an old church with nice stained glass ceiling for part of the restaurant, but that is where the positives stop. Food is mediocre (go to Bleeker Street instead), WAY overpriced even for location, they charge for refills (they'll tell you it is on the menu when you get the bill, but who looks at the menu for soda prices???). Then when you get the bill the price is marked up 3.85% because the menu reflects a "cash discount". When a business plays these kind of games with pricing, it's best just to walk away.

Very good pizzas. Beautiful atypical establishment with a mezzanine space. Welcoming, friendly and fast service.

Tasty pizza in a friendly and comfortable environment. Service was good and the pizza was enjoyable. I would have liked more mushrooms on our mushroom pizza, however.

American pizzeria located near Time Square. Dated place but which has its charm as it was a church in the past. In fact when you enter you find yourself in an immense room with a typical vault of a church. Typical American pizza divided into slices .the largest is worth it because it has ten slices and the difference with the others is a few dollars

The food was good, not amazing but it was decent. The service was painfully slow and for some reason all the staff look unhappy. Wouldnt recommend this place at all as just seamed like one of those places in tourist areas that doesnt care about customers as it doesnt expect to see them again.

Good food, Pizza served with good choice of toppings. The venue was let down by poor service. We asked 3 times for our water glasses to be refilled. The ladies in our party said the restroom was inadequate and dirty. We will choose not to return.

For me one of the best pizzas in New York. I love going. My friends loved it, it’s a bit noisy but worth it

Great place for pizza! We have a one year old and our host and server were so sweet to provide a booth and items to entertain himself while we ate. Pizza was delicious! Salad was ample! Definitely coming back the next time we are in NYC

We loved the food and our experience here! We had the most delicious fried mozzarella, fresh delicious salad, and amazing New York style pizza. My daughter has peanut and treenut allergies and the staff seemed educated about food allergies. I loved that the restaurant is nice and open feeling so you don't feel crowded, even with it bustling with customers. It's a beautiful restaurant! We had dinner here before seeing a Broadway show. We loved the food and service so much, that on our last day in NYC, we picked up at pizza to go, and ate it at the airport before our flight.

John's used to be great. Then it got inconsistant. Now, they're crap. The Time Square location especially has a bad tendancy to undercook the pizzas. I've asked on several occassion for "well done" and it's come out like soup on a crust. I'm done with trying. Never again.

The pizza was great! The service was great! I have to say the atmosphere was fantastic! The building is beautiful and full of history and character. The pizza ovens are in plain site so that you can see the masters at work. Highly recommended!

Every time I go to the city I always visit John’s. It’s a great building. The pizza is the best. It can be busy at times but the lines move fast. We didn’t have to wait at all this time as the theatres hadn’t let out yet.

Another visit, another great meal! We arrived before noon and was able to get right in, no waiting. Pizza was sooo goood!! A definite must-go every time I visit the city.

Best pizza in Times Square. Unique and beautiful space. Good service. Great GF options for my wife who is celiac. Highly recommended.

The pizza was the best I have ever had. Service was good and the atmosphere was amazing. Very pretty place with plenty of room! They stored our luggage for us and that was a plus. Will definitely be back!

We go every time we are in NYC. One of our favorites. I also recommend to everyone I know who’s coming. Our dinner came out and separate times. So I finished before the others in our party got their food. Had to continue to ask for water. Ordered appetizer it came out after dinner. Server could have cared less. Not sure we will go back.

Came here with my mom sister and boyfriend for a weekday lunch around noon. Our entire experience was rushed and they kept coming and clearing our table as if they were trying to get rid of us. We sat at 12 and our waitress dropped the check at 12:28. The food was good but being so rushed I don’t think we’d return.

Very busy place for a reason. Had to wait almost an hour but once we tasted the first bite of pizza, the wait was worth it. Holy cow it was good. Probably, one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten. Definitely will go again the next time I’m in the area.

Amazing pizza and great mozzarella sticks as well. VERY crowded though, but it is okay because the food came to the table very quick.

Had found John’s on Trip Advisor and it appealed as they weren’t taking bookings in December which meant we could be flexible with timings etc. We waited for only about 15 minutes and it was well worth it. From the street the restaurant looks like nothing special but it is an old church inside and is quite special with 2 floors of tables. A very extensive menu and different sizes of pizza that can be made half and half with different flavours. Service very good. Would recommend.

Although restaurant get half full, yet bad table, in a corner upstairs. Food not recommended. I don't know how the good review comes to Stade.

Pizza was great! We were there with a bus trip of 29 people. It was quick service and delicious pizza. This was our second time here and we really enjoyed it.

Found this place close to Times Square. We sat upstairs which was a bit quieter and gave us a nice view of the beautiful ceiling. We shared a large pizza (8 slices) which was the perfect size for the 2 of us. We were able to order different toppings on each side which was great. The pizza was delicious, lovely and light and the fresh basil on my half really made it. I had one of their 10z martinis, it was huge and great value at $18. Service was excellent, a great place.

Food was great as always but the staff not so. Seemed could not care less. We were seated at a tiny table with a glass top that slid when you rested on it. Loads of empty better tables and booths next to us and when we asked to sit there we were told that section was closed, it was literally 3 metres away from our table. Then we asked again and got told the booths are for families. The place was not busy and loads of empty tables and booths free. The table staff could not care less and we got the impression they could not be bothered at all.

Hmm. Didn’t love this place at all. Should have known better but it was recommended as a fun experience. The setting is a cavernous old church and is really loud and shouty. Service was friendly but our pizza wasn’t great with huge, crunchy raw pieces of green pepper and uncooked mushroom, watery tomato sauce and absolutely smothered in weirdly chewy basil. So yeah no just don’t bother.

Service is spotty. Appetizers came out 10 minutes apart. Pizza came out 20 minutes after other entrees. Sides came with the check. Pizza solid. None of the pasta dishes had any seasoning. Basic meal took over 2 hours. Wait staff told us the kitchen is horrible and they deal with this every day.

Perhaps it’s our fault we ordered other items off of the menu. I got fettuccini Alfredo and my wife ordered pasta primavera. These items are not pizza and they were mediocre at best. I had to add lots of salt and Parmesan cheese to make it come close to what I expected a she had to ask for some marinara sauce(watery, maybe pizza sauce), to help hers. She didn’t finish it. There was no bread available. Good portions. The building was worth the visit: old tabernacle church. Bathrooms smelly and mildly soiled.

Pros: Fast and pleasant service. Great atmosphere with festive holiday decorations, good selection on menu. Appeared clean. Food was decent. Cons: Cesar salad was typical (nothing special), pizza was also mediocre (1/2 margarita, 1/2 pepperoni— we liked Ray’s pizza better). Garlic toast was awful and totally dry (I think it was toast sprinkled with garlic, no butter or oil if any kind.). Prices were typical for New York but the pizza could get very expensive as every topping is $5 no matter if it’s in 1/4 or 1/2 the pizza. If we wanted a traditional pizza, 1/2 sausage & onion and 1/2 pepperoni, mushrooms and olives — it would have been an additional $25 for toppings which is why we kept it simple. It wasn’t awful but nothing special.

The line was long on Friday evening. We almost opted out, but realized how quickly things were moving. Their team has a great system and keeps it going. We followed suggestions and ordered the house salad to share and a pizza (traditional). It was quite delicious!! Thanks to the team for the great service! It isn't easy to be in the restaurant world these days!

Very good pizza, excellent staff and service. Great bar options. Really enjoy grabbing lunch here whenever we’re in the Theater District.

The pizza was great and the church building stained glass is worth seeing. We enjoyed the experience and would eat there again if in New York. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Worth a visit

Excellent! Referred by our hotel concierge. We wanted some good NYC pizza on the way out of town, but didn’t want by the slice. Super cool old church. Great crispy crust. Pepperoni high quality. Margarita pizza was excellent! Service great, prompt & attentive. Food came quickly. Highly recommend!

Visited this restaurant with another family and both our families enjoyed the pizzas. Both pizzas came fast and were excellent. Decor is dated but it is known for pizza and not decor! Service is fast and efficient.

Horrible experience, sat down quickly then the first server came over to give us plates and asked if we were ready to order. Then suddenly another server came and gave extremely aggressive attitude chastising us for placing the order with the previous server who asked us in the first place. She got in the face of my partner and complained that she doesn't know what we ordered like we would know that. We stood up and left after being accosted and fearing she would do something to our food. On our way out we told the hostess and one of the managers, the male manager wore glasses. We came around 4pm Est. We were seated upstairs right next to the top of the stairs.

Stopped here for dinner. The location is convenient in time square and the pizza, salad and appetizer were all good. It’s worth a visit.

This was the first time I had eaten at this restaurant, and my overall experience was poor! It took the waiter more than 20 minutes to take our order. We ordered a regular pizza and drinks. It took more than 30 minutes to get our pizza! Our waiter never checked on us, and we had to get his attention to get some Parmesan cheese, and he slammed on the table! He was a rude person! Never refill our soda or ask! Over-priced place! Never again!

Nice vibe in the place. Very casual. And very busy. The food was well done and service was excellent. Not the best pizza I’ve had. But good quality NY style pizza for sure! Good spot for after a ball game!

This place is just amazing. We had diner at the bar, where we were served by Diego and his o so funny colleague Billy. They are the best you can find. Trust me.. They offered us a shot, gave us advice on the best IPA, on the food.. Great team at a great place!!! Billy : you rock man ! Really..

Excellent pizza in Times Square. Delicious food, super fresh, excellent service. Stupid expensive, but that's NYC. I'd say it's not as good as the other John's on Bleeker, but was still really, really good.

Good pizza (large 8 slice margarita for $25 plus $5 per topping). Nice atmosphere although did feel a little dated. Friendly staff.

This place it much larger than it appears from the street. We had just pizzas and beers they had an issue with their ovens so there was a bit of a wait for the pizza. But when it arrived it was really good. Service was also fine.

Went here for dinner last week. Food was really good. Excellent pizza and the calamari with pasta was over the top. Issue was that the waiter kept disappearing. We saw him sitting in a booth on his phone. We flagged him down and asked him where the rest of the order was. He acted surprised then came back to tell us that is was the fault of the pizza guy. Then he went back to the booth with another waiter and got on their phones.

Although satisfied with the reasonably short wait before being seated and the advised 45 minute wait for meal, our overall experience was poor. Leather-like bases that could not be easily cut, staff eating at tables alongside customers during their break, plates hurriedly taken before people had finished and what felt like a desire to get us out of the restaurant as soon as possible, left us feeling very disappointed about something we had long been looking forward to.

An overall bad experience here. My dish came after 30mins but it took an additional 20mins for my friend’s food to arrive, so my food had gone cold by then. When I asked if it could be heated up, the staff were very rude and hostile. It was also and additional $4 to get cheese on my pasta! The food was quite bad and extremely overpriced, the service was truly atrocious and I don’t think I will be coming back.

Family dinner after show at Radio City. Food was fine but nothing special. Portions were relatively small, except for meatball parmigiana sandwich which was large but not the best quality. Prices were high for what we got. Restaurant was noisy, especially the front area. Men’s room was nasty, smelly and dirty. I’ve been here before but won’t be back.

We went 2 nights in a row. The first night everything was perfect. Amazing food and service. The second we were left waiting to order for 30 mins after asking for a little more time. On both occasions the food was very good and I would go back again even though we had to wait on the second visit. For us the second night was a very busy service so maybe that’s why we were overlooked. The pizza is amazing. I had a spinach and ricotta pasta on one visit which I didn’t like as much. Overall a great restaurant and I would both recommend and visit again.

Our group of 8 who absolutely love pizza stood in the line which was out the door on the street. We waited 50 mins to get a table as you cannot book. Inside the foyer/bar area people were shoulder to shoulder waiting for a table. While waiting we watched staff eating in the restaurant area. The building is impressive, however, if you look up the air vents are disgusting and so are the toilets. This pizza and pasta was nice but definitely not worth for the wait. Would not rush back.

Awful service, staff were rude. Won’t return! Tourist trap! Much better establishments to be had! Not a patch on Don Antonios.

Historic pizzeria very close to Times Square. Quaint place (former church) with listless and slow service, but pizzas and pasta are good, and for New York at modest and reasonable prices. Definitely recommended.

Service was fast and server very helpful and polite however food was very bland (pastas). garlic bread came around 10 minutes after our meal was served. Drinks were good. $124 for 2 meals and 3 drinks.. overpriced

Particular place, it was a theater, very nice. For New York the pizza isn't bad. Very convenient because it is close to Broadway theatres. It is necessary to book in advance.

We been coming to this pizzeria for years, great place, great service and great pizza! We had a Dinner Reservation for 18pp on Oct 6 2023 which happens to be one of our chidren Happy Birthday Celebration, This happens to be a Family Restaurant and few of Kids were tired due to long flight and trip so they were taking a nap, Manager came to our table saying that this was unaceptable and he would not allow this (Robert Burger) as a Manager and Managing Restaurant this is not how you treat your customers! Very dessapointed on the way we were treat, I dont see our self returning to this place.

Used to be good some years ago! In July 2025, the service, the food.. the whole experience was terrible! The waiter was rude and in a rush.. 10 minutes later, he was sitting eating on a table next to us! The pizza was tasteless! Definitely overpriced for the food we didn’t eat because of how bad it was! Very disappointed.

The pizzas are delicious and have a great size to share. Chances are you'll have to wait a while, but this won't exceed 30 minutes. Great place before you go to a Broadway show.

Not what it use to be! John's has been our NYC go to pizza spot since 2003. The building, a prior church, has a beautiful interior and the pizza was always flavorful with quick table service. It has become a tourist trap with average pizza and slow service. After waiting close to 45 minutes at noon for a table (expected since it is NYC at Christmas time), when we were finally seated they put us at a table next to the bathroom. I asked to sit somewhere else and was rudely told we would need to wait another 25 minutes, not simply given the next available table. Pizza was okay, not as good as it use to be, and service, everything from ordering, to food delivery, to getting our check was painfully slow. With the amount of pizza places in the city, next trip we will be trying out somewhere new. Kind of sad, we use to love this place.
Delicious pizza and beautiful restaurant
Pizza was delicious! We ordered a Margherita pizza and a house salad and everything was tasty. The building was unique and interesting and the service was great.
