First time having Korean BBQ

By nbmooney |

The waiter was very nice and explained how to order. We loved the food. This has to be 100 characters. What more should I say?

Great experience!

By R K |

We came here for lunch following a recommendation from a friend who is currently living in NY. We have never tried Korean food before so we were totally clueless but our waitress took time to explain menu to us. We chose the beef sharing platter which again the staff explained everything to us when serving. Loved that everything was cooked right in front of us and the food tasted amazing! This was a new experience for us both and we loved it all! We would definitely recommend and hope to return again on our next visit to NYC!

Amazing food, interior and service

By Sulami79 |

Attracted by good reviews we entered this place and were not disappointed. We had - kimchi stew - chicken over rice The stew was freshly cooked at our table. It was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The chicken had it all - inclusive a fantastic rice with eggs and onions. On the top of it - the service was just fantastic.

Excellent and confusing!

By ioj27 |

Excellent fun and food. It’s a bit overwhelming starting with choosing which floor to eat - we chose the 2nd (older) floor. Then choosing what and how much to eat was questionable too! Ask for help as they’re very friendly. We had a blast!

BBQ

By sunjoe075 |

We were there at lunch time on Wednesday. No crowd, no wait. Pleasantly surprised. We didn’t not order the lunch menu and decided to go for the beef BBQ for $83 for the three of us. The food was plenty for us. The quality of beef is great. The cooking in front of us was fun and perfect. The staff are professional. The decoration of the place is fun. You cannot see the place at street level. You need to take elevator to get there.

Amazing

By daniel c |

I tried this restaurant with some colleagues after a hockey match. It was incredible! they brought us tons of meat and cooked above a grill just in front of us. Of course it is not cheap, but if you want quality beef you have to pay it!

DISGUSTING!!!!

By Christopher K |

I had one of the worst NYC meals in my life last night at a horrible Korean place called JONGRO on 32nd Street. Bafflingly long queue on the sidewalk, and a long wait, to get up to a squalid 2nd floor smoky stinky dirty bbq room with absolutely horrible service, nasty & hostile "greeting" , DISGUSTING food, and deafeningly loud Korean hip hop/techno "music (sic?)". 120 dB or more. Headache inducing . Vomit inducing ... No stairs to flee, only rickety crowded elevator. FIRE TRAP. Should be closed by the Health department. Very high prices to boot! At least I haven't yet contracted hepatitis! Avoid!!

Korean BBQ

By David Y |

Old school BBQ house, Jongro's used to be 'the entertainment spot' back in the earlier days in Seoul, a bit like hollywood (hence the records of my childhood singers). Now, the food, if I'm honest I was happy but not blown away, the food's good but also pricey. It's an experience at least once to be had.

Great food BUT pricey

By Yummy Yummy |

Great Korean BBQ. The restaurant appears to be located in a business building. As soon as you enter the building, a staff will check you in. Then they will direct you to the appropriate floor. Food was great. Staffs were also great. Didn't provide us many banchan, so that's a little bit disappointed. It's also quite pricey for us. For a table of 4, we spent almost $300.

Good place for Korean BBQ

By renz124 |

Good spot for Korean BBQ in the heart of NYC's Koreatown. The service was great. The inside is very nice. The food was truly delicious. We brought some out-of-town relatives here for their first taste of Korean food and they really enjoyed the experience. We ordered the pork platter and marinated Kalbi - which was definitely enough for four people. The deep fried pork dumplings were so good we ordered a second plate of them. The only "complaint" is that - compared to other places that I've been to - the selection of Banchan (the side accompaniments to the BBQ) were somewhat limited. Besides lettuce, kimchi and raw onions (?!?) there was a bowl of bean sprouts with a spicy sauce and some macaroni salad (?!?) - no anchioves, no cucumbers, etc. - but nevertheless the meats were tender, the sauces delicious, and we had a fantastic meal.

AMAZING

By Sarah S |

This food was genuinely some of the best food i’ve ever had. Price was so good for the portion and went with dad and brother. Quickly served and seated and waiter was fast and nice. Amazing service and absolutely amazing food. Went on the 4th of July and service was quick and amazing. Beautiful atmosphere and just can’t get over the food. Would come back again obviously. DONT SKIP! SO WORTH WHILE!!

A nice Korean BBQ.

By TangoNY |

Efficient service and decent food. Meat was pretty high quality. There was a Korean party inside and a jolly K-pop music. We enjoyed the place. A run of the mill quintessential Korean BBQ.

A nice Korean BBQ place in west side of Manhattan

By TangoNY |

A large busy Korean BBQ joint. I have ordered a glass noodles and seafood over a lunch solo. Good quality. If you are in Korean town along East 32 street in the city, it’s worthwhile to pay a visit.

40 minute wait time, awful experience.

By Grumil |

Wait time too long, hostess didn’t seem to be able to give estimate on wait time, so we watched tables being placed and held but no one showing up. After 40 minutes we left.

Delicious

By AM |

Be prepared to get there early and wait a bit! but it is totally worth it. The staff were very kind and will tell you what things are / what to do if you are novices like us. They do not have a multitude of banchan offerings, but they offer larger portions of things to accompany the delicious grilled meat. Totally great experience for a family!

Excellent Korean BBQ

By Donald Hahn |

We started dinner with prosecco. The side dishes were excellent. The marinated Kalbi was wonderful, with the Kimchi pancake on the side.

Amazing food and service

By Nutt J |

The server was super nice. He managed to cook out beef perfectly well. Food was great. The beef was way better than the pork

Birthday Dinner

By mantapli |

Food is tasty however almost no service or terrible service, Dirty tables poor communication dirty water cups

Good Korean BBQ experience

By mcqueenbee |

Came here while visiting NYC. Someone recommended it to us. It was Saturday night and the place was packed. We were told 45 mins for one floor and 20 minutes for another. We asked for the quickest. We ordered the large beef platter which was around $140 for the 3 of us. It was good but next time I will just order the short ribs plate

So good that we went twice

By SWG |

If you are gonna eat here during the evening - you better be prepared to queue. We had to wait from 40-50 minutes both times we went here, but it was worth it. Very good meat and side dishes. Loved it all!

Overpriced Korean BBQ with Cold Service

By maydonshoots |

Disappointed by the entire experience. The grill looked clean and the meat looked okay, but the flavors were bland and forgettable. What really ruined the meal was the service — stone-faced staff and zero warmth. For the price point, you’d expect at least decent hospitality. Not worth it unless you truly don’t care about ambiance or experience.

Ten Stars!!!

By Vanessa K |

Exceeded expectations. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. It’s not fancy, just superb quality, down to earth ambiance, and great service. Beef short ribs were excellent and cooked at the table. Came with great sauces and sides - salad, marinated onions, rice, egg, and more. We also ordered the soft tofu soup and it was great. Asahi beer on draft. This place was DELICIOUS!

Best K-BBQ!

By EAaroundtheWorld |

See if you can call ahead (I didn’t try), or arrive with time because we had a wait. It was delicious though! Probably the best we’ve had, and we’ve tried a lot of places.

Good Korean BBQ

By Klaus E |

A very busy place- quite large and we did not have to wait too long. Once you ordered your food they prepare it for you fairly swiftly and cook it to perfection! We just had a mixture of chicken and different types of beef. Delicious and as good as in Korea!

LOVE this place!

By Wanderer583478 |

Excellent super attentive service. My sister and I enjoyed the atmosphere, excellent bulgogi, and pork bbq. Will DEFINITELY return soon!!

Real Korean barbecue

By Stefan_Le1 |

Had dinner there with my boss. First experience for him with Korean cuisine. We selected the traditional beef BBQ. Very good, served with typical vegetables. Waiter very helpful and friendly. Not the best place for business talk because of the noise but good place for experiencing a traditional Korean BBQ.

Nice place

By Wibbrib |

Exciting and new for us. Had never tasted Korean food before. Slightly messy menu and waiter who did not explain so well. But a lot of food and many good tastes. Little to expensive to get the full score.

Fun and Lots to Eat

By gwardbeeler |

We got to the restaurant around 9:00 pm on a weekend. You cannot make reservations, but with Yelp, you can secure a spot on your way over. We had about a 15 minute wait. The inside looks a bit like a market place, and has a fun atmosphere. For four of us, we ordered shrimp and pork. You get so many sides. There was so much to eat! You also get about 15 sides to go with your meal. The food is cooked at the table by one of the servers. Service was very good and attentive. Jongro BBQ is located in Korea Town, on the second level, off the street so its not a real obvious place to go.

Something different

By Martti_K |

This was an experience, not having been to a Korean bbq before. There wasn't a lot of guidance, service was friendly but very efficient, they sort of expected you to know what you are doing, and you couldn't easily make out what they were saying behind the face masks anyway. So choice of dish was very much random, ended up being the kind that the waitress cooked at the table instead of cooking it there yourself, but still very good food and a good experience.

Excellent experience!

By Family B |

One of our absolute favorites! Whether it is a dinner for 2 or a big party or 12 -- we always have a fantastic experience! We have tried many Korean BBQ restaurants and Jongro is the BEST!

Fun Spot for Korean BBQ

By Kimberly E |

Good food. Good service. Popular spot. Hip, young crowd (mostly Asian) with energetic vibe. Very busy. Does not take reservations. Go early or late for dinner or be prepared to wait. Street entrance is poorly marked with location on second floor and one elevator. Large platter selection serves three people. Had a great time!

Nice experience

By Guido C |

Went with friends. There was only one vegetarian friendly in the menu and none vegan one..my friends had met and enjoyed. They said it was very good, but small for the price. They left not satisfied. As for me, the meal was ok, but I was dissapointed by the lack of vegetarian options

Korean food experience worth having

By LondonMorph |

Cool, fun, Korean decor. Good barbecue, cooked in stages in frontnof you at the table .Quality food and there was enough but not too much either. The side salad that comes with the beef bbq was phenomenal. Little pricey for but a very nice experience.

Excellent

By Alex M |

I visited this place with my son. Full of people, and many Koreans, which I took to be a good sign. The food was excellent, as was the service. I would definitely go again.

Cool Place

By Eduardo G |

This place totally awesome. It's tucked-in and you'll miss it if you just walk past. The service was great as was the experience of having your waiter cook the food in front of you. Literally. Food was delicious too.

Tasty but very loud

By Lee E |

Treated two of my young adult daughters to their first Korean BBQ experience, which they loved. The quality of the food here is excellent, and we enjoyed all the different sides that enhanced the flavors of the porkbelly, marinated pork and beef skirt steak. The negative was the incredibly loud music. We enjoy lively restaurants, but even my girls were struggling to hear each other across the table. Service was prompt and efficient. It would be great if the menu explained a little better the sides and methods for newbies like us. Price was reasonable, just over $100 for three of us.

Weekend In NYC

By chrissylantry |

As a vegetarian, there were not a lot of options but my mixed veggies were flavorful. My dinner party enjoyed the beef and said it was very tender. The music was too loud, and I didn’t find the servers particularly friendly. Very busy which is a good sign but felt sort of like a production line.

Top notch beef at the right price

By crabapple58 |

Very helpful, eager, and courteous staff. Upstairs overlooking the action of a busy Manhattan trade street, this is a open, wood beamed, rectangular space. There are fire grates at each table, which are used by staff to grill your selection. Do ask for a detailed explanation of the menu, the lunch appears to be a real bargain but we were here for dinner and the @$100 beef for 4 was more than enough as the sides, dipping sauces , and veg wrappers are all included. Their is a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We were able to linger and chat , we did have a spacious table but arrived at 4:30p before the dinner rush. NO -carb or lo-carb : Korean BBQ is for you!!! This is very good quality beef.

Not For Me.

By BD1002 |

I’ve eaten at many Korean BBQ spots in NYC and elsewhere. Picked this one because of reviews, but was disappointed. Selection of banchan is poor - essentially kimchee, a few onion / scallion dishes, two bland soups (including one that was just scrambled eggs in water) and macaroni salad. Wait staff seems busy, miserable, and not at all friendly. The only saving grace is the meat is not bad. Four people spent $150 on food alone and left hungry and dissatisfied. Perhaps this place was once good, but it’s not now. With dozens of choices for Korean BBQ in the area, I would never return.

Characteristic

By Carmelo L |

Korean restaurant. Honestly, I have never tried Korean cuisine so I have no basis for comparison. My girlfriend and I had fish soup, vegetarian ravioli and a Korean salad, also vegetarian. The ravioli were particularly good, the rest quite forgettable. The place is a barbecue, so you will have a grill in front of you to cook the meat, which however is very expensive (an average of 40 dollars per plate) so I imagine it makes sense if shared with someone. At the beginning they bring a series of small appetizers for free. The restaurant is on the second floor of a very characteristic building. In total I spent $53 including tip.

Uncomfortably loud. Interesting. Expensive. Small portions.

By Kuba_888 |

We walked in, no reservation. Have been told 20 min wait and ended up waiting 55 min! If 10 is a huge portion and 1 is tiny, I would give 3. Expensive. 2 people, we had one combo and one small dish + one beer each and paid $150 plus tip. Very, very loud place. If you want to talk to people you're coming with, you should get few sets of those headphones with microphone used in the helicopters ;-)

Tasty Korean BBQ

By James Simon |

Tasty Korean short ribs and rice with good service in Koreatown. Food is provided quickly, nice lagers too. Looking forward to returning

Great Beef

By kpocampo |

We tried many types of beef to barbecue for our party of 11. Tried many types of sake. The pancake was very crispy. Tofu soup delicious. Wish I bought one of their shirts.

Great visit of the NY Koreatown

By Alexander B |

Ate there with a friend visiting the city. After a night of drinking this place was a perfect spot. It has some great Korean BBQ. Place was busy during an early Sunday dinner. There wasn’t a wait at 5:30, but there was definitely a wait when we were leaving. Great meat cuts and small dishes. Waiting staff was attentive and engaging. The value was good.

don't bother

By VJousan |

We went to this place for lunch and number one it is VERY pricey for lunch and the meat that the server cooked in front of us was extremely tough and my husband left the uneaten balls of meat on his plate and they did not even question why..... I'm sure they knew why. The wait staff was hurried and rude - the side dishes were not great either. Will never go back

Worth a visit

By Stephanie K |

Fun lively place. Having been to Korea I can say it’s very authentic. It’s very loud, so hard to have much of a conversation. Food is good and staff are lovely but they are mostly used to Korean dinners so the struggled a bit with us but they tried hard.

Korean BBQ

By Jetskii |

The best korean BBQ in town. The best bbq with the best bacon ever. The staff is friendly and the food is great. It is a must must visit. PS the waiting can increase at peak times.

Great food, atmosphere, service and price

By Emma S |

I have been here twice now. Yes its busy and you have to put your name down then wait (I do it at one of the many near by bars) but its worth it. What an experience. The food is delicious, service is fast and friendly and the atmosphere is pumping. Great place to eat with friends. I think the negative reviews are just un-fun people who hate waiting for anything and dont like loud music. If this is you, stay away I guess.

The best!

By Misty R |

Delightful service - Excellent food! Staff was welcoming and helpful. Food was amazing! Great location in midtown. Definitely recommend.

Bad experience. Food was okay

By Denise L |

We had high expectations. Once we got there,we had to wait 45 mins. That was ok,as we had high expectations of the restaurant. As we sat down, the waiter wasn't nice. Everything was rushed. Nothing was explained to us. We left a tip of 5 dollars at the end. For us that are foreigners, 5 dollars is a lot. Someone else came and was very rude about the tip, started to yell at us that we only gave 5 dollars tips. Never going back there.

Korea in the heart of Manhattan!

By Penelope |

I had already tried a Korean restaurant in Los Angeles and was amazed so, when I arrived in New York, I put it on my "bucket list"! Cute restaurant with excellent meat and impeccable service! I don't give 5 stars because you leave there totally smoked with clothes that smell like roast, but it's also normal... Furthermore, more clarity would be needed in the directions of the place, which being on the 2nd floor of a building, you can't find immediately! In any case, I highly recommend it! Obviously high prices!

Good Group Meal

By MicMac29 |

Four of us went here for dinner. We wanted a place where we could have an "experience" , try something different & interactive but not touristy or kitchy. Jongro was just right for this. Service was quick & friendly. We did tell our server that we were new to Korean bbq. Although he did recommend a meat combination, I would have liked a quick rundown on what the sauces & veggie stuff on the table were. I also would have liked a recommendation on or offer of sides (rice, noodles) as it wasn't clear on the menu that they were available. For the uninitiated, meats come raw to the table. Staff puts them into the grill then come by to flip and slice them. Lettuce for wrapping & several dishes of cold veggies & condiments are provided. There was plenty of room at the table & nice spacing between the tables. We were seated immediately when we arrived a bit after 5pm. By the time we left there were about 40 people waiting. Get there early if you don't want to wait too long. Also, if you're new to this, don't just taste anything that they put on the table unless you're certain of what it is. One of our group took a bite of raw egg mixture presuming that it was a sauce.

Great Korean BBQ Spot

By Jenny C |

This place is a must-visit for Korean BBQ lovers! The marinated steak combo was absolutely incredible—tender, juicy, and packed with rich, smoky-sweet flavor. You could really taste the perfect balance of seasoning and marinade in every bite. Grilling it right at the table just made the experience even better! The sides and dipping sauces complemented the meat perfectly, and the service was top-notch. If you're craving high-quality KBBQ, this is the spot. Can’t wait to come back!

Busy, noisy, long wait and service not ideal.

By Liz H |

Very popular restaurant, we arrived and told we had to wait for an hour for a table and would receive a text message when our table would be ready in 5 minutes. No option to book for groups less than 8 which is disappointing. The food was good but the staff were very unhelpful when it came to allergies- their advice directly contradicted the menu and staff were unwilling to provide alternatives on the set menu for items we were allergic to. Restaurant exceptionally noisy and impossible to hold a conversation over dinner. The pork platter was nice, but given the overall experience we wouldn't rush back.

Korean dinner

By Serena |

Excellent Korean food surrounded by a nice atmosphere. However we had a really poor costumer experience because when we asked a clarification about the menu, three members of the staff started to laugh at us. The manager tried to make up to this giving us two cocktails on the house.

Nice discovery

By Giolaros |

I was searching for an asiatic barbecue and that was looking good from reviews and pictures and didn’t disappoint Us!

Korean bbq experience in New York

By Samuel Afonso |

Excellent drinks and food with nice vibes. Bartender was amazing and helpful and all the staff are friendly. Highly recommend it.

Particularly good

By Sognatrice12 |

Very welcoming Korean restaurant with friendly staff. BBQ is really special. The side dishes didn't excite me, but that's a personal taste. The meat very good.

Simply the Best!

By sgm |

This is a superb place to have Korean BBQ. Don't go anywhere else if you want quality food, atmosphere, and excellent service. Excellent quality of the meats! We especially love the Marinated Kalbi, and the Pork. The side dishes are delicious and you are provided generous portions. If you don't quite know how to barbecue the meats yourself, don't worry, the servers will help! They are all attentive and fantastic, and they move fast. They will make you feel welcome and comfortable. This is continues to be the "Go to Korean restaurant" for my family.

Really fun

By Junkaroo |

First visit to a Korean BBQ and it was fantastic. The server was patient and explained all the possible options making suggestions along the way. He kept made the meal entertaining and let us know what all the different dishes were and how to best use them. The restaurant was very crowded and a little loud, but the staff did a great job of keeping things moving smoothly. It was a great introduction to Korean fare. We would definitely eat there again.

Good quality K-bbq

By PY2334 |

Best Beef quality and service! As for their Bancan ( appetiser come with Korean BBQ ) not much variety, just onion in different dressing - I’ve been to Korean bbq places with delicious Bancan and this place not one of them. Also, dear owner, maybe it’s time to re-do the toilet? It’s dingy! Still, will come again just for the Korean bbq.

A Korean BBQ Experience That Brought Back Memories Of My Army Tour In Korea From 1991-1993

By 524512 |

I was stationed in Korea from 1991-1993. I came to love the korean barbeques with the grill top on the table. THe experience at Jongro brought the memories flooding back. We had the beef platter, ribeye, sirloin, marinated steak, etc. You put the beef in lettuce leaves with scallions or pickled onions, and multiple sauces. It was super delicious. I loved the kimchee. The servers were so attentive. THey made sure we had a great time. For korean bbq that can be pretty pricey, it was very reasonable.

Expensive but amazing

By MarkFenrir |

This place is as good as it is suggested, and it accomodates all sorts, be it couples, families, groups of friends or business meetings. The only matter is that despite being quite spacious, there are long lines every day to enjoy dinner there, so arriving early is a very wise decision in order to avoid waits of 2 hours of over.

Worth finding

By Kitty272727 |

An outdoor dining shed made this upstairs Korean place more noticeable and less daunting since a staff member ushered us inside the office building and onto the elevator. Our kimchi stew with pork belly was cooked at the table, so we could decide on its doneness. Truly delicious. A seafood pancake with dipping sauce looked more like a Chinese scallion pancake, but was full of various seafood. These dishes were definitely a cut above many other places on the street. The banchan, while presenting unusual marinated black beans, otherwise were few and rather ordinary, though good. The room is large, and service was attentive.

Great food, service sub par

By Kristen L |

Food: great first experience with Korean barbeque. Atmosphere: Very informal. Plastic cups for water. Service: very hands on and quick. Many waiters. They seemed very tired (we came after 10 pm). Communication difficult, we seldom knew what was in front of us. Noise: loud-ish music, quite hard to keep a conversation going.

Love this place!

By daxiong1 |

Great place, terrific meats, fun staff. lively atmosphere!!! Try it, but be aware you need to get a place in the line (no reservations) gets very bsuy!

In the middle of K-town, but off the tourist path

By Mark B |

Went with friends (probably best to go as a group of 3-4 at least), and wast pleasantly surprised by the location, which managed to be and authentic experience of bing outdoors indoors. Food was good, and while it is cooked at your table, you don’t do any of the cooking — the experienced and helpful staff take care of that so you can enjoy the experience and your friends. I fell in love with the soju, and found the preparation with vinegar fascinating. While not cheap, I thought it was a fair price for good food in the city.

Great place when visiting MSG

By Joseph R |

This place was awesome! It’s sort of hidden in the middle of Koreatown on the second floor of an inconspicuous building. The restaurant it’s self has an authentic feel to it and the food is amazing. The server cooks the meat at your table and your provided with multiple sides and lettuce to make a wrap. The waiters are very attentive and made us feel welcome. My 7 yr old daughter is very picky so she didn’t eat much but was entertained by the whole atmosphere.

Perfect for a surprise birthday dinner!

By Emma Z |

We called for a Saturday reservation earlier in the week and were told that they don't take reservations but if we went to restaurant on Saturday that it shouldn't be more than a 30 min wait, when we went the day of they quoted us 2+ hours for a table. That was annoying but we ended up going to a bar and waiting for our table. The restaurant is on the second floor and you take an elevator, when the doors open it is a cool restaurant that makes you feel a little like you are in a new country. The staff was very helpful with ordering enough food for the group. The food was very good, you don't cook it yourself but the staff is very helpful. Overall a great experience!

Super Korean bbq

By ChristopheG |

Great restaurant on 2 floors, very friendly staff, nice setting. The barbecue is very hearty, the meat tasty. The server explains and prepares as you go. About $150 excluding taxes for 3 for the bbq. As in many places each glass of wine raises the bill (about $20 per glass). The meal leaves a good impression.

Didn’t even get past the phone

By Habana22 |

We are travelling with a toddler and so having tried to walk in on the first night and found an hours wait, we tried to reserve for the next night. We called and was met with a rude person who told us ‘no bookings, walk in only’ despite us explaining we were with a toddler and would be early diners. Sad to experience the poor customer service as we took our custom elsewhere.

VERY TASTY MEATS

By Ed R |

Big restaurant on second floor. Food was very tasty with meats being tender. They had a vast selection and the food was cooked at the table. I have eaten in many Korean BBQ's and found the service fast but they kept rotating staff and I really felt we were being rushed with our meal. I know this is a very busy restaurant but I don't like to feel rushed. I could not understand the preparer as his English was lacking. And it was very expensive.

Good and lots of fun once you find it

By HippoAugustine |

Remember this address: 22 West 32nd street. Remember it, because you might not see it’s diminutive sign which is way up on the building where you would not normally look. When you find that address, you’ll look inside and see a guy at a desk in a small room. There will be no indications that this is a restaurant. Walk past him. He may look up and grunt at you or he may not. Enter the elevator and go to floor 2. When the door opens, you’ll catch a whiff of grilling meat. And you’ll see a hopping party like atmosphere. Go to the hostess. Reserve a table, they will Text you when ready. My family of four had never done Korean barbecue before. We simply admitted that to our server and he showed us the ropes. The way it works is you buy platters of whatever kind of meat you want and they cook it for you at your table. Really great flavors and a lot of fun.

Not average, but probably 3.5 stars.

By Thaddeus K |

4 is an excellent. It's not there. Food was fine. Not enough variety to sides. They do ensure that those sides (seems to be limited to the onion family) get replenished along with the paste/dipping sauces along with the lettuce.

Best Korean BBQ ever!

By HiddenDragon |

Absolutely fab meat, with quick friendly staff. The sides were also very tasty. Well organized bookings-wise, you give your name & contact details at reception downstairs and can wait on 5th floor until your table is ready. There are 2 floors: 2nd & 5th and plenty of space, but it’s also very busy at dinner time. Can’t wait to go again :)

Mc Donalds of Korean BBQ / and you dont even get to cook your food.

By Laxi |

Came here because of reviews, waiting time more than an out, only to find out that they did not serve any wine ! Red or White, There is hardly no vegatbles to grill, and you dont cook your food, so the waiter overcooked all our beef. Why go to a Korean bbq not to fry for yourself. Thats the purpose. I just cant understand the hype

Great food and fun dining!

By Jake |

Went over the Christmas period for dinner during the week. We didn't pre book so had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, but staff explain this as soon as you arrive and even offer to text you when your table is ready. Was our first time eating Korean bbq so didn't know what to expect but it turned out to be the best meal of our entire trip! The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. Even the diners on the table next to us who were locals helped us out with the menu and recommended what to go for. The meal itself is a fun experience sitting around the bbq and having your food cooked fresh in front of you. Overall it was a great experience and would definitely recommend anyone to try it out.

Amazing Korean Experience

By Erin C |

This place is not easy to find. Look for number 22 and get the lift to floor 2. Best to get there around 6pm as by 7pm it is queued out of the door. It ended up costing us $50 each but you can easily do it cheaper or more expensive than that. It is what you make of it. The service is outstanding and staff are always happy to top up your side dishes. Very fun experience!

Traditional Korean BBQ

By David M |

This is a very traditional Korean BBQ restaurant. Food is what you would expect if you went to Seoul. Good quality meats. Downside 30 minute wait to get a table and relatively expensive.

Great food, service and value

By DavidG897 |

Thoroughly enjoyed our BBQ lunch The place is well organised and exudes experience at enabling diners to have the accompaniments they like to enhance their meal choices

Delicious authentic-style yakiniku

By yujik9854 |

You can eat authentic Korean food. They serve meat, condiments, and cold noodles. The prices are cheaper than other New York restaurants. The entrance is difficult, so it's best to think of it as being above Citi Bank. I've uploaded a photo.

A splurge but a worthy experience

By Centralgirl |

My brother and his girlfriend selected Jongro for dinner for us to experience something new and different. Boy, did we ever! For the money we got several excellent cuts of meat (and there was more than enough for the four of us) and unlimited sides. I enjoyed trying everything that was prepared for us to try and was pleasantly surprised by how amazing it was. Although pricey, it was a worthy splurge to give us a new experience on our NYC trip.

rude and unprofessional

We get to second floor and check in. We were only for 2. They told us a wait and did not state how long it may be. Then more people came and the host told us we were 'in the way' oh really, and we sit . Then more people came and they were seated.

Great Korean food, wonderful staff

By Charlie O |

Definitely a must go when you're in NYC/Koreatown area, especially for beef lovers. Service was great, servers were honest with portion sizes and while the price was on the "expensive" side, very well worth the $ and experience. It's not something you eat every week (both for health reasons and $ reasons) but once a month if you live there? for sure... as a tourist, definitely must come back next time I'm in NYC.

Such a cool place! Great experience

By Michael N |

First time Korean bbq. My older son wanted to bring us. Is busy, borderline loud, but definitely happening. We went on a Sunday afternoon . Wait was short - less than 10m. Food choice are awesome and cooked before you eye. Try the soshi (?sp) basically a rice alcoholic beverage. A definite do again for us

Excellent Korean in Manhattan

By aziz s |

Korean restaurant well placed in Manhattan.. hidden above a bank.. impossible to detect from the street... that Koreans eat there... The kitchen is on top!!!

Overall, a very enjoyable night out

By Luke B |

Ordered a beef platter as well as a seafood noodles. Definetlry some of the best meats we have had at a Korean bbq, far superior to those we have experienced in China. However, seems the waiter forgot our seafood noodles! Never the less, upon reminding, the food came out with speed and was delicious!

Delicious

By Leonor124 |

The food was delicious and it was a great experience having the food cooked in front of us. The staff were really friendly too. Best meal I had while on holiday in NY :)

Soooo good

By PrincessMonkey |

We came here on our first night in NYC as it was close to our hotel and reviews were good. It was super busy but put our names down and got a beer and waited 45 mins, we were not disappointed! Meat was so good and sides were replaced without you noticing. Really good experience, super efficient staff and very good food. Would recommend!

Excellent Korean Cooking

By Skibumdude |

This is written on the 3rd day NYC opened indoor dining in the covid time. Jongro had outdoor eating tents, but the real bar-b-que cooking took place inside with tables separated 6’. We had the ribeye and bulgogi. The staff was super attentive and our meants were cooked to perfection. Service was awesome. Korean pop music blared in the background. It was a super evening.

“We don’t validate foreign ID.... do you have your passport?”

By Jeff D |

Fellow foreign travellers, bring your passport if you want to get drinks (alcoholic beverage). They say they “don’t validate foreign ID’s” but insist I show them my passport. We were from Canada and tried to eat at this restaurant. I tried to order a drink (beer) while we wait for our table using my Canadian Provincial driver’s licence. They did not accept my ID, as they said “do not validate Foreign ID” and ask to see my passport, which i did not bring with me in the risk of losing it. So what gives them the “rubber stamp” to validate my passport then??!! Showing my frustration, one of the head servers said she would agree to serve me ONE drink, but cannot guarantee that i will be served another at the table, so we ended up leaving. We are 39 and 41 years old, and clearly do not look 18 or 21 so why not use a little bit of common sense?? This is my first that any U.S. restaurant has denied my Canadian driver’s licence to order a drink.

Good Restaurant vibes.. Friendly and accommodating staff.. good food but not amazing.. Price is average.. Location is little bit tricky to find.. Overall it was a good experience!

Good Korean food

By GF_Gavin |

This is a really good Korean restaurant in the Korea Town area of New York. It's actually on the second floor of a building, and the lift and entrance are pretty unprepossessing, but once inside it's a revelation, with the whole place done out like a traditional Korean village. The menu is extensive with lots of barbecue options, but my friend and I opted for bibimbaps for lunch which were excellent. Mine had spicy pork and was delicious, with a good bowl full of food with lots of onions and other vegetables. Flavours were lightly spicy and quite sweet with all the onions and I thoroughly enjoyed it. One downside was that they don't do tea - no green tea, no Korean barley tea, nothing. Korean restaurants in England always do tea, so I've come to expect it. Why don't they do tea at Jongro? There was no explanation and it can't be hard, surely. That aside, the food is good and plentiful, and prices pretty reasonable for the city.

Excellent service and food and great for gluten free

By Janepuckey |

Service was very fast and two of our family needed gluten free. They were very helpful and provides separate sides for the gluten free people which was brilliant. Lovely food. We had the pork belly and beef and they cooked it all for us on our table which they were very attentive. Highly recommend it.

Best Korean BBQ

Wonderful experience! Food was incredible and waitstaff efficient. The reviews that give this less than 5 stars aren’t to be trusted

Super delicious.

By Sarah L |

The samgyeopsal was AMAZING! I would 1000% recommend if you are looking for Korean bbq in Manhattan. My favorite meal that I had when I was in NYC.

Delicious BBQ!

By strawbebi |

This is one of the best korean bbq dinners I have had! The meat was tender and flavorful. Portions were rather small for the price though. Plenty of banchan and service was fast. They even grilled for us which was convenient. It was a little hard to find but well worth it!

Great Korean BBQ Experience

By OlaMayer |

I have to say that this was my first time at Korean BBQ, and I wasn’t disappointed. The waitress at the beginning seemed cold and unfocused, but she turned to be really wonderful and attended to all our needs. We ordered beef plater, and it was absolutely amazing.

Good Korean BBQ

By snoozermoose |

Came here with friends and ordered way too much food. Everything was good, maybe not the best KBBQ I've ever had but overall high-quality meat and a good kimchi pancake. This place was absolutely packed. Clearly a very popular restaurant in Koreatown.

Wonderful!

By JCW703 |

We had a wonderful lunch here- highly recommend the USDA prime marinated beef. Everything met our expectations and, unlike other places we have been, we did not leave smelling of smoke. Will certainly return.

Not frozen meat

By TravelEatXplore |

3.5 stars. You entered the building and have to go to the second floor. The place is modern and well kept. The staffs were attentive and polite. We ordered the beef platter special. The meat isn't frozen. There were plenty of side dishes for the special we got. It came with a small soup. We also ordered 2 small rice bowl. The portions are small, but the food were good. The priced came to 100.00 for 3 people. Good luck with parking in NYC.

Succulent Beef

By Richard |

Jongro BBQ has good quality meat and it shows when one takes a bite into the beef or pork. Price is just about right for the product.

Great Food and Atmosphere

By Terri |

Loved the attention we received and loved the food. It was reasonably priced and we got more than enough food.

A great venue chosen by our korean friend

By 157henk157 |

This is a place we would never have found without the expertise of our Korean friend in New York. This is the real deal for Korean barbecue and it is absolutely delicious. Both our sons (one adventurous and the other much less so) loved this food. You have a choice of many different types of food and different levels of spiciness, so everyone can eat what they want and as hot as they want. Do order sufficient drinks. The staff was very friendly and I believe it was not even that expensive (I clearly did not pay).

A Wonderful Lunch

By Catherine209 |

Korean BBQ is one of my favorites and we eat it often in Californina but I had never had it in NY so I wanted to try it here. It is not the all you can eat, pay 1 price per person, choose from a variety of meats within the group that you purchased that we experience on the west coast but rather a choice of pork or beef platters if you're sharing or you can purchase indidvidual dishes of meats. I liked that the servers came by and handled the cooking of the meats for us and kept everything cooked to the exact temperature. They were friendly and helpful. We thought the tofu stew was delicious and I enjoyed the kimchi as well. It was my aunt's first experience with korean bbq and she enjoyed herself and the meal very much. All in all an excellent value in our opinion.

Ahhhhhmazing

By Jacqui A |

Fantastic spot on the second floor of what looks like an office building in Koreatown. As an inexperienced KBBQ diner this was quite the experience. Service was attentive and they explained how to make a lettuce wrap, the food is so fresh, and the vibe is on point! Our it on your list for dinner, drink some peach soju, and find a place for Karaoke after. Memorable!

OK, yummy but nothing special

By Bob Angry |

We tracked down this spot as a GF option in Korea town, but were underwhelmed. The food was decent but this spot works better if you are going for the ful experience. A light lunch not so much.

Excellent food

By Aleman |

Wanted to try a classic Korean barbeque. We did and were fully satisfied. Meet quality was excellent, and service was very attentive. A bit pricey, since the menu that was recommended for three, left some of us hungry. Worth a try.

Perfect food!

By Sauliukas |

Despite waiting time to be seated in this place is almost one hour, but no doubt it worth it! We had a set of different beef. It was so good! Service was excellent as well. Our waiter grilled meat for us explaining with what sauces we need to consume certain peaces of the meat, Korean Soju was perfect with the meat. Highly recommended place!

Great Korean BBQ

By zebragorda |

Above average layout,. service and food.We like all the great meats at the table.Almost too much food.share if you can

Delicious korean bbq

By Amanda S |

Jongro is a Korean BBQ in Korea Town midtown. The outside of the building is gray and you have to look up to the second floor to see signs for the restaurant. It's often very busy, and you have to put your name in an iPad from which they'll call you when they have a table (they don't take reservations). They grill the meat at your table and have a range of options from different cuts and marinades of beef and pork to veggie choice of mixed mushrooms. Not a ton of vegetarian options other than pancakes, rice cakes, glass noodles and the mixed mushrooms. I had the lychee cocktail which was fantastic. We got the bulgogi and really loved the seasoning of the beef. The Korean pancakes and rice cakes were also seasoned and cooked well. The place is busy and noisy, so if you're looking for a quiet romantic place this is not it. Much better for a night out for food, drinks and friends.

What a delight!

By TomLeathers1 |

Loved this place this was our first time, The only dissapointment was I couldnt finish the food which is such a waste! Waiter/Chef was great and was just a very fun experience.

Great food, cool atmosphere

By nikki j |

AMAZING! Came here with a group of 6. The wait was long (quoted 20mins - 2hrs), we waited maybe an hour. But there is a karoke bar upstairs to pass the time. We ordered a kimchi pancake, beef platter and pork belly platter to share, and an order of rice for everyone. The waitress said the large platters feed 3-4 people -- but we were STUFFED by the end of the meal! Every time we thought we finished more meat was thrown on the grill. The meat was yummy, soft and just great. You also get different sauces to try with the meats. Would definitely come back!

Best Korean BBQ in town

By James S |

First time eating Korean BBQ and it did not disappoint. Food tasted fresh and the staff was great. Fair warning, it is a tad pricy but.... i feel like it was worth it though. I would recommend if you are in Koreatown

Delicious Korean bbq!

By Hussein B |

If you want a safe option for a great Korean Barbecue, I definitely recommend this one! Delicious food.

nothing special

By Michael H |

6 of us had dinner here on a Saturday, 1 hour wait but there is a bar upstairs on the 7th floor. we had beef and pork platters between us as recommended by the staff. dinner was rushed through, and portions seemed quite small, i assume this is due to how busy the place is but this impacted our experience. Music is very loud and could do with turning down a notch.

Fantastic Korean Food

By Arlene S |

We went in a group of 6 so that we got a variety of foods. The meat eaters got beef and pork and loved it. As a vegan, I got glass noodles with vegetables and it was great. The kimchee was tasty but they only had Chinese Cabbage Kimchee.

Korean bbq

By 35filizk |

It’s the first time that I ate Korean barbecue Beef plater was big enough to share 2-3. Every piece of the plate was delicious I liked all of it It was very similar to Barbecue we made in my country The service was good Only there is a huge smell of the bbq If they clean the air it would be marvelous

Just wow!

By _grapejuice_13 |

We went on a Sunday night in December with other friends and it was amazing! The place is very nice, it looks like a small village and the food is good, they cook at your table and the meat was really good!!

AVOID! Disappointing and overpriced!!!

By Steve B |

Most Korean BBQ places offer vegetables with their meals. This place was so money hungry and cheap they considered a few onion slices your vegetable. And at $150.00 for 2 people they had the nerve to charge for rice! You got my money once Mr. Manager. Never again. There are plenty of other Korean BBQ places that know how to serve their customers and give them VALUE! and a good meal, not just what the manager can make a great profit on. My advice: Avoid and go somewhere else!

Dinner in Koreatown, NYC

By Vy H. |

Came here Friday for dinner—it was PACKED!! The wait time for 4ppl was roughly 45 mins, not too bad—they will text you and you have five mins to come back to check-in. The restaurant is located upstairs—as soon as the elevator opens, you are overwhelmed by the yummy smell and how energetic it is here! The bar area was super busy. Overall, food was good—we got the Large Beef Platter. Meat quality was on point, but lacked flavor—my favorite was the Marinated Galbi, which was delicious and well-flavored! I dipped the other meats with their dipping sauce and it still wasn’t enough flavor. The banchans (complimentary sides) were great! Loved the Corn Cheese and Egg Soup—my friends really enjoyed the Beef Intestine. Service was great—our server was attentive, didn’t rush us either and was nice when we asked for more banchans. Prices here are on the more expensive side.

Great experience

By Kingfamily05 |

Waited a hour in this buzzing restaurant. Shared a large beef platter with our family of four, plenty of side dishes accompany the platter. The beef was of fabulous quality and the service was spot on, with the friendly waiter explaining everything we needed to know to make our first korean bbq a great event.

Had No Expectations, Wonderfully Surprised

By Dawn M |

We have never been to a Korean BBQ before and thought it would be similar to an American - chopped meat with sauce on buns. Our 17 y.o. daughter was turned off by the photos of the raw meat and ordered a vegan stew. My husband and I had the beef platter. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The 17 y.o. said, “This was the best meal we’ve had since we came here (4 days ago).” Our server/cook, Jung Si Won C., explained the process to us and answered all our questions. We opted not to get the rice, and were happy with our decision because there was more than enough food. If we could afford to eat here every night of our stay, we would - it was that good! (Bill was $115.39 with no drinks.) Guests are separated by plexiglass and there are signs to wear masks when staff is serving the table. The place seemed to be very busy. We waited 20 minutes to be seated but it was well worth the 30 minutes it took. Our temperatures were taken prior to being taken upstairs.

A stressful experience

By Catrine L |

The music volume was too high, you couldnt speak to eachother and enjoy the company. The waiter grilled the meat in a very high speed and stressed us to leave as soon as possible. BUT the staff were more serviceminded than in South Korea!!

Good Korean BBQ restaurant

By Lingwei H |

This restaurant is located in Koreatown and we didn’t make too much research before going to this place. We ordered typical Koran BBQ and the food was fine with what offered but the price is not. I would go to different Korean restaurant next time

Very entertaining Meal

By Ceri J |

Called in without booking and to wait about half an hour for a table. It was worth the wait. Selected a number of dishes with the help of the friendly waiter. Our drinks arrived shortly followed by an array of plates containing meats, veg, rice and pickles. Our waiter lit the BBQ and helped us to get cooking. The food was great and the fun we had cooking added to the occasion. The restaurant was busy throughout our stay.

Very authentic and good Korean BBQ in NYC

By K-show42 |

Great selection of quality meats for BBQ. Love the different small complimentary appetizer dishes. Service is always excellent here. Expect to wait a bit because they are very popular. We got lucky since there was only 2 of us. Price for what you get is reasonable.

Great!

By stanroc |

From out of town. Saw this one on listing. On Korea Town, but on second floor. Look for street address. Was hard to find but worth it. Decor looks like Korean restaurant. Kpop blasting, you Korean man very nice and helpful. Food came if fast and good. Lotsa Koreans here, authentic and good. Food was perfect. Waiter explained everything and cooked perfectly at table. Got marinated steak. Succulent and tender. Sides were delicious and thoughtful. Great experience in all ways.

Excellent BiBimBap

By m w |

Excellent hideaway restaurant discretely located on the 2nd floor. Would have completely missed this location if I weren't specifically looking for it. Nicely decorated and fairly intimate. Each table has its own gas stove/hot stone baking area for meats and other goods. Excellent BBQ. Had Korean short ribs. Excellent

Great food and Vibe

By Andy Tam |

Great food and vibe. waiting time was reasonable consider how busy the restaurant is. Highly recommended and Would definitely come back.

Authentic Korean

By PabloD209 |

My nephew brought us here during a trip to the city with the family. If you’re looking for an authentic Korean dinner experience, this is your place. Nothing Korean BBQ with a group of friends or family. The food was amazing and the ambiance made us feel like we were in Korea.

So good!!

By Samuel H |

So tasty and reasonable!! The flavors are out of this world and servers were very helpful. Get on the list and go grab a drink nearby.

Very good meat

By sightingsarah |

My brother and I love all the little treasures they serve here. It's always a good experience. The food is great!

Kracklin Korean BBQ

By Johnny A |

Vibrant and very busy, so make sure to allow yourself a good 30mins of waiting time, as they dont take reservations. Now that I got that out of the way let's get to the good stuff. Korean BBq at Jongra is the way it should be, clean, fresh and tasty af. Most korean bbq I've visited you generally cook the meat on your own, however it was great to have someone do it for us in 3 different serves. Allows you to digest and not feel like you cant conquer the feast that waits. Service is great, and better when shared with friends.

Amazing Korean bbq located right in K town

By Khoi N |

I've passed by this place so many times and was never able to get a table with the long wait times. Finally made it in with a large group on a hot Saturday afternoon. My friends and I ordered the combo large beef platter, pork platter, spicy rice cakes, japchae, tofu stew and some flavored soju cocktail. This was plenty for 6 people. The cuts here are really fresh. The banchan filled the table and we definitely enjoyed our sides. The stew packed some heat and had some great rich flavors. The rice cakes were really soft and tender. They stuck to the grill so I recommend just eating it straight from the bowl and using the sauce they in bowl as well to dip your meats. I really enjoyed my experience here. Service and food quality were definitely 5 stars. I felt like we had 2 waiters and 2 bus boys at our table. Our banchan, drinks and sauces were constantly getting refilled. The ceiling fans definitely try to suck up as much of the smell and oils as I found myself leaving and not smelling too much like KBBQ. This is a great place to enjoy some quality KBBQ with friends and family. Covid wise they keep this place spotless. The bathrooms are really clean and the entire staff is wearing gloves and masks.

First K BBQ Experience

By Peter N |

First time at Korean BBQ. Fantastic vibe with so much energy, so much activity, K Pop playing and excellent food. Quite a frantic pace, but that’s all part of the experience.

Must Visit!

By Katie Henry |

An amazing Korean restaurant where the chefs cook the meat right in front of you. So fun to watch and amazing quality food is made. Lovely atmosphere and really quickly made.

As if you are in Seoul

By beyazyurek |

Ordering Souju with Hite, having real barbegue with loud, garlic smelling environment. Welcome to Korea in mid NYC. Great meea on real barbeque, expect a long line if you arrive late any day.

Quirky & authentic

By Sandra S |

Lively location in Midtown. We were there with the kids, DJ was playing, loud, exciting, table grill. Very meat-heavy, which was great for the rest of the family. For vegetarians there are glass noodles with vegetables, which were also great. If you like it loud, lively and typically Korean, this is the place for you. It was great for us. It's on the 5th floor, down at the entrance you can choose which floor/restaurant you want to go to. It was busy, but we got a table quickly without a reservation.

Jongro BBQ is a delightful and tasty spot

By Dana Los Angeles |

Jongro BBQ is a great Korean reaturant located in the midst of many Korean eatery spots, with many crowded due to great food and cool city vibe.

Good but expansive for the portion

By IEBO |

The place is nice and hard to find at all as some others described. The food was good and is a nice experience. I just found their portion quite small for the price expecially what they call large platter. Is better to go with single plate for every person. Price was too high in my opinion for the food. One large platter of beef plus one plate of pork belly, 2 sodas and 2 beer was 200 usd.

Awful pressure to tip good

By Anthony |

Awful, waiter pressured us to tip in front of everyone Never again, tip is an option not forced upon

We LOVE Jongro! The food is

By Katie01 |

We LOVE Jongro! The food is amazing and it’s always such a fun experience. We usually order the Pork Belly, Beef Bulgogi, and Kalbi Beef, but highly recommend the Korean Style Seafood Pancake and Glass noodles. We also love to order the spicy seafood tofu soup. My son and I have been here about 5 times. I only gave it 4 stars because the bathrooms were very dirty and overflowing with trash at our last visit rather late in the evening.

Fun Korean Food

By Julie S |

The first time we went was on a Friday night around 7:00 p.m., the wait was 2-3 hours. We decided to come back on Saturday early and I'm glad we did. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere fun. Go early because they do not take reservations only a wait list.

Delicious Korean BBQ Steak

By taxatty |

The restaurant is hidden on the building's 2nd floor--take the elevator to get there past a friendly guard. We arrived around 5:00 PM on a Saturday--medium busy, seated immediately. Our patient waiter explained the different menu single order and combination choices and the dining experience to us. We ordered the Marinated Prime Steak with three types of beef (all good), which with the soup, side dishes and different items to add to the cooked beef was the right amount of food for two hungry people. The different waiters cooked the steak perfectly and we were very pleased--a fun and quite good experience for Korean BBQ first timers.

First Time at Korean Resturant

By JohnBFromSC |

We had a good experience here. The entrance to the building wasn't the clearest or inviting, but once the elevator doors opened up, it was great. From what we could tell by the food and clientele is that it was pretty authentic. The food was great and very fresh. Though they tell you that the serving size for the meal is for one person, it is really enough food for two. I saw several tables eating the large meal and sharing with 3-4 people. Overall, its a great restaurant and worth of its reviews. It would just be nice if they had more signage inside the building confirming your going the right way to the elevator.

Beef tartar bimbimbab

By TravelEatXplore |

If you're are the area and looking for Korean food. Then is place might be what you're looking for. It has outdoor dining. A must have dish are cold green tea noodle with beef brisket. It is refreshing and cool you down while eating bbq. Great flavor. The beef tartar bimbimbab is a must have dish. The raw beef mixed with raw egg yolk and daikon along with the 3 sauces. I would order that again. Also good was the premium pork jowls. Good flavor and not heavy or oily. Don't get the kimchi stew. Way too fatty pork pieces. Service was good and the food came out quickly.

Fun lunch experience

By Fran Hide |

We met my cousin here on a recent trip to NYC - as a local she eats here a lot. We didn't have a clue what to order as we couldn't read the menu but fortunately for us my cousin new what to order. It was a fun experience cooking the meat at the table. They bring all of the accompaniments and you eat these along with the meat which is cooked by the waiters/waitresses on the hot coals in front of you. The meat was fresh and tasty. It was rather pricey but a fun experience.

Best so far

By Jod |

Best NYC experience so far! Amazing food! Had the set menu, and we had a good waiter. Everything was just perfect!

Amazing, memorable late lunch!!!

By Raul B |

Unfortunately is very hard to find Korean bbq were I live... so I was really desperate to get a decent one. I found it! Right in NYC's Koreatown. Amazing bbq, with marinated meat, and all the usual Korean sides (salad, kimchi, soy, lettuce, etc.). Rice is not included (is extra). I had my bbq together with a Hite... so good!!! One of the waiters was really friendly. Approximate price per person: $40-50 (including beverage). PS. The place is in the second floor of the building.

Far from best k-BBQ place

By ntpcsusu |

We went here for Friday night dinner. Had to wait one hour, normal in NYC. So this is what we got for one hour of waiting: samgyeopsal was of low quality, it did not had the fatty taste and was rushed to cook so the crispiness did not come through. Also, any decent Koren BBQ with respect for it self would not serve MAC&CHEESE as side order. That took us by surprise, but maybe it made sense realising that there are more tourist than Korean people at the restaurant. Ultimately, in order to enjoy soju, you have to show passport. This is the only place so far I have encountered this requirement. I normally do not bring my passport out for dinner when I am travelling. This ruined the night, as we had so-so korean BBQ without beer or soju, but was charged premium price. I would suggest other places, that will serve you more authentic Korean food than this place. Dont mind paying premium as long as the food and service is in accordance with the price.

Fun Korean BBQ place

By Chris L |

Loved Jongro. Ordered a bunch of dishes which came out really quickly. The meat dishes come out one by one, which the staff cooks for you. Everything was delicious and the meat is good quality. The staff work really hard. The grill was changed in between meat dishes. Not as many side dishes as other Korean BBQ. The lychee cocktail was amazing. The atmosphere and music was a lot of fun. Not cheap but worth it. The only negative I can say was it took a long time to make reservations. I called different times and days and no one picked up.

The highlight of our weekend!

By Cat mom 2019 |

After exploring NYPL for an hour the hubby and I were VERY hungry but uncertain if we wanted to eat salad or a hot lunch. After browsing online we decided to try this place since I had only eaten Korean once before and that was over 20 years ago. Our server was very helpful and was tactful enough not to ask why I had no clue what to order or why I needed a fork. (I'm a Korean adoptee) It was fun watching the cooking process with the beef at the table and the assortment of vegetables really enhanced the meat. Also tasty was the kimchi pancake, which I ended up needing to bring back half to our hotel, such generous portions! Will have to visit NYagain and try dinner here!

Awesome grilled pork belly

By MisterUserName |

Good place for grilled pork belly. Didn't make reservation, but walked in around 5:30 pm on a Friday and was able to get a table without waiting after showing my vaccination card. The place was already packed! Side dishes were served quickly and they were okay. Typical I'm used to even that bowl with a lot of mayo and mac noodles... Ordered Kloud, but they were already out of that. Instead got a few Terra bottles and soju. Pork belly was crispy and tasty. Enjoyed every single bite mostly with kimchi and gochujang sauce. Staff wore masks and a few of them were wearing gloves. A big bottle of hand sanitizer around the main entrance. Keeping it safe

One of the best Korean spots

By Laure Marie L |

I love this place they have the best service they are super quick and you do get a lot of food for the price I definitely recommend

highly recommended!

By ines |

The restaurant is somewhat inconspicuous in Koreatown on the first floor. You have to look closely to find the entrance. But it is definitely worth a visit! The service is friendly and courteous, the food is on the higher end of the price range, but the quality of the food is exquisite, so it is worth it.

Awful experience

By greconj |

I am so disappointed at my experience at Jongro. I read the great reviews and had high hopes. When we exited the elevator we were pleasantly surprised at the lively atmosphere and crowds. We got to our table and we had a friendly server. We got the BBQ pork and the glass noodles. First the pork was extremely fatty and the BBQ wasn't hot enough to char the fat so we were left with chewy pork fat. We were only able to eat about a third of our portion before we both couldn't stand any more. The pork wasn't marinated which I find to be standard in other Korean bbqs. Also, typically Korean BBQ is served with several small plates. These were missing at Jongro. Only bean sprouts, bean paste, and kimchi was brought to us. Not even rice!! When I asked for rice they charged me extra for it. WHAT??? No rice at Korean BBQ??? The worst part about the pork was that the fat was splattering all over us, burning our faces and arms. My clothes were covered in fat splatters and my (expensive) purse is ruined from the splatters. The final insult was the glass noodles. The only flavor was from an abundance of black pepper. So much so that it was inedible. Hardly any vegetables, no sesame oil or soy sauce. I've eaten at Korean restaurant all over the place, from NY to LA all of my life. Never have I ever had Korean food that I couldn't eat. I was surprised at how many Koreans were there considering that it seemed more like the Olive Garden of Korean BBQ. What a disappointment!! Skip this place and go to one of the many other fine establishments in Korea Town.

First Korean BBQ experience

By 876rogerv |

Visited this restaurant with our niece who lived in South Korea during college a couple of years ago. Authentic Korean BBQ, cooked right at the table. Portions were large and the quality of the food was very good.

Great first Korean BBQ experience

By KajeS |

Our waiter did an outstanding job explaining the barbeque and recommending the pork belly and marinated beef as a perfect amount of food for 2. This place is very popular with local Korean community. We were very lucky to get a table without waiting a half hour or full hour. Please note:. This does not have a Street storefront. It is located on the 2nd floor of an office building. Look or #22 above the door.

Good food for a good price!

By Lainie L |

I came for lunch with friends, including one who had never had Korean food before! There was no wait even though it was a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately and ordered a number of items including kalbi, pork belly, marinated chicken, dumplings, seafood pancake, and the last dish we had included beef and glass noodles, I forget the name. The food came out quickly, the staff was attentive, and we ate to our heart's content. Price is reasonable and the quality of the meat was decent. The restaurant is a good sized space, more room than I expected which is ironic since the bathroom is tiny, barely space enough for two people, and moderately clean. It wasn't filthy but it could be cleaner.

Delicious! Don’t be intimidated!

If you are new to korean bbq, do not fear! Come here! I had always wanted to experience korean barbecue but I felt intimidated that I wouldn’t know what to do. I am SO GLAD that we came here. We appeared to be the only non Korean patrons at the time of our visit, but our server was extremely helpful making suggestions of what cocktails to order, what food to order and making recommendations regarding portion size. Three of us girls were eating and we ordered the marinated beef platter and an order of the pork belly. The server came and set everything up with the grill and accoutrements, and cooked the meats for us one type at a time, which I really appreciated, especially as a first timer. Everything was delicious. One thing to note, if you are new to korean bbq (as I was so I’m not sure what’s normal) the meat options we ordered came with a lot of sides, lettuce for wraps, sauces, pickled vegetables, etc. But it did not come with a side like rice or noodles which an american might expect. If that’s something you want just make sure to order it. I definitely plan to come back on my next visit to the city. I still daydream about the delicious pork belly and lychee cocktail. 😍

Awesome first time experience

We were staying on the same block as this restaurant & I had read the great reviews so we went along. It is not obvious where it is because it is on the second floor. When we arrived about 8pm there was a lot of people already waiting for tables we were told about 30-40 mins so we decided to wait it out. Glad we did we had an excellent meal. We chose the Prime Bulgogi & shrimp for the BBQ which was served with all sorts of sides & lettuce to wrap it all up in (like san chow bao ) & we had the kimchi pancake which was incredibly delicious. Our server; Dae Soon was amazing she asked what we needed help with on the menu; our response was 'everything' she gave us a great overall brief. She expertly served & cooked the meal for us, she even de-shelled the shrimp for us like a master, it would have taken me twice as long !! The service & food was excellent, for the previously mentioned dishes plus 2 beers & a lychee cocktail the cost was $110.00 plus tip. There was sooo much food. We would definitely recommend you go !

Very Interesting Dining Experience.

First time eating Korean BBQ and I must say that I found the whole experience very enjoyable. The restaurant is located on the second floor of what appeared to be an office building. When the elevator doors opened you are immersed in an incredible journey to another world. You get a sense of sitting in a Korean restaurant with wood flooring and tables. Prices are a bit on the high side for my taste but the food was enjoyable, service was a bit rushed but if you see the line of people waiting you can see why. The server prepared your meat items on the in table grill, which I found to be a rather unique experience. Marinated beef platter was enjoyable but rather small in portion, certainly good for one maybe two people. Sausage variety soup with ramen noodles was very tasty as well. I will certainly consider coming here again when I'm in NYC, preferably on a day it's not so busy.

Atmospheric Swag

5 stars for atmosphere, 4 for food. They were able to accommodate a group of 6 on a Monday without reservations with only a 30 minute wait. The meat was brought out quickly and was delicious (not the best we’ve ever had, hence the 4 stars). There’s also 1-2 options on the menu for vegetarians. Great place for friends. Would likely return.
