One of our pseudo-family traditions is to eat out on Friday after work and school, usually at an Asian restaurant. Our kids really like Chinese food, but we've been pushing them to try other things beyond the usual buffet. We happened to be in the area for a separate errand and my husband suggested we try Ka-Prow. Wow, what a find! Our waitress suggested that we go Thai or sushi since that is the chef's expertise. There is great variety on the menu and we didn't go wrong with anything we tried. We even got the kids to try some new dishes as well. Everything tasted so fresh. I had the Ka-Prow Noodles - perfect amount of spice.

This is a gem that most people may have missed. Lunch is outstanding. Service and atmosphere is fast and friendly. The staff know what's in each dish that is unique nowadays. Chef O is always willing to make your dish just like you want it.

Generally good, but I had a spicy tuna tartar with avocado and apples here once that blew me away. (It was a special -- wish they'd put it on the menu permanently!)

Wow. Chef O is the mastermind behind the explosion of fantastic flavors at this sedate strip along IH35 and Howard Lane.. Nicely decorated restaurant with excellent wait staff. The food is amazing. Tonight tried the lettuce wraps as the appetizer. They were delightful, and delicately spicy with terrific robust flavor. Next, shared the Pad Puk w/ chicken (w/no chilis = no heat) and the curry delicious Penang w/ brown rice (two chilis). Love this place..

I had the papaya salad and pad kee mao. Both dishes were excellent and the spice was right at 5 stars. The only complaint is the sticky rice mango needed more for flavor in the rice. The sticky rice is supposed to be sweet, but not too sweet. That day, it didn't taste like anything. I am Thai and grew up with Thai food and I do recommend this play for those looking for Thai Food.

We love our Thai food, and wanted to try a different place than our usual haunts. Since we were going to be on that side of town, we decided to give this a try. Located in a small strip mall, the parking is tight, but easy to get to. The interior seating space is also small, but cozy. I got the General Tao’s chicken and my wife got the pad ka-prow. Both dishes were okay and tasty, but they seemed to be lacking something we couldn’t put our fingers on. Overall, it wasn’t a bad place to go, and if we’re back on that side of town we may return.

Was in town on business and needed a quick dinner close to the hotel. This little bistro worked well. Food was good, service was attentive, and I was able to get in and out without any trouble.

The first time I went there the chicken was a little chewy. THe second time it was real good. Good lunch menu with sushi options.

Great food and the best Tom Ka soup I've found in Austin! Sushi is good as well but just be aware of their opening hours as they close for a few hours in the mid afternoon and then reopen for dinner!

Saw the good reviews on TripAdvisor and decided to take my management who had traveled with me. One of the members was Japanese, and was very excited to see the Japanese beer selection. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The food prices were reasonable, and the quality was very good. I had the sushi plate, and the quality of the fish and rolls was excellent. My Japanese boss mentioned that the Miso soup tastes like it came out of a can, but he was very complementary of his entree. Just wish I could remember what it was!

This has been one of my family's favorite restaurants and we've been back about a dozen times. In the past the food has been superb along with the service and small, quaint atmosphere of the restaurant. During the last two visits we've noticed an appreciable drop-off in service and even some in the quality of the food. In my latest visit we had three people in our party. One of them got something totally different from what she ordered. She doesn't like spicy food and they brought her a spicy dish. I attribute this to an inexperienced wait staff, because I heard what she ordered and she did not get it. I also ordered a cup of egg drop soup and requested that it come before my meal. Well, I waited and waited and she finally brought it out. The only problem is that 1 minute later the entrees came out, so my food was getting cold while I was eating the soup. The previous visit about a month prior I ordered soup before the meal, as well. The server brought it out AFTER the entrees were on the table. To make matters worse, the hot & sour soup tasted like pure vinegar. Someone obviously made an error when making the soup because I've had it many times before at Ka-Prow. Since we've had two bad experiences in a row, we will probably back off going here so often and try and find another Asian restaurant that meets our expectations. I truly hope they can get their issues straightened out. I used to love this place.

pretty good food, mediocre sushi, good overall. good thai curry

If your tastes lean toward spicy then the Pad Kee Mao is a must try! The spicy grilled duck is also an exciting flavor combination! Should you prefer sushi then the Sakura roll is always a good bet! Service is very attentive and menu items can be adapted to suit your needs. A gem in North Austin.

Love Ka Prow and Chef O! The Thai food is the best. We love the sushi also, but the Thai food really rocks!

We have gone here off and on for years. Usually above average, but mostly below on this last visit. Only real standout was the Salmon Curry. Nice thick portion of salmon prepared well - moist and tasty with a nice curry sauce. Ka Prow Rice and Crab Fried Rice were both somewhat disappointing with little flavor or texture. Have almost always shared the Crab Fried Rice when we go as a group and it is usually much better. Service was okay this time, lack of which on last few visits had been our reason for not returning sooner. Will return eventually, as they are convenient to us and know they can do much better from past experiences.

The restaurant is located in a strip mall which was kind of sketchy looking. When we walked in, I smelled something like fish sauce and it was there until we left the restaurant. The decor is really nice. We were hoping for a delicious meal. We ordered sonethinf that did not come with chilly sign next to its name on the menu so we knew we were ordering mild. But when we started eating, it was bland, very bland food. We went here based on recommendation but I would suggest to order food that comes with chilly sign next to it. Customer service is good!

We came here for a late lunch with my husband and son. We ordered the dragon roll, Crab fried rice w/ pork, Thai street food (extra spicy, level 5), and the Chilean Sea Bass; a calamari for appetizers and spicy edamame. For drinks we ordered the Thai tea and Thai coffee. I gave the place a solid 5-star because the food, like each dish, is really delicious and filled with flavor. With the crab fried rice, you can really see and taste the crab meat. The chef didn’t skimp on the ingredients nor the flavor. Chef O even came to our table to check on my husband on how he’s handling the spiciness of the food he ordered. The restaurant can accommodate large groups. I love this place and I highly recommend it. You should too!

I have eaten here several times and have always been impressed with the great service. The food is fresh and delicious and the prices are reasonable. My favorite Thai place in Austin!

This bistro has to be our most favorite Asian restaurant. I had the Crawfish Maki Sushi which was superior, and their Chilean Sea Bass is unbelievable. Service is outstanding and the entire dining experince was most pleasant.

I really like have a nice Sushi appetizer with before a Thai entrée! I started with a couple of pieces of tuna nigiri. The fish was super fresh with great texture. Their green chili chicken had the right amount of heat (it's a bit closer to "hot" than "medium"). The fresh Thai basil is always the right touch for this curry. In addition it had Chinese egg plant which was different than any other curries I have had. Server was very helpful and attentive. I highly recommend and will go back the next time I'm in town.

The food is fresh and the staff are welcoming and very friendly. They know our family by name here. We love the sushi but the main dishes are also outstanding. You won't be disappointed.

This is a small restaurant located in far North Austin almost all the way to Pflugerville. But the travel time is certainly worth the investment. Not only was I blown away with the flavor of the food, but my companions, whose heritage is Asian, found it equally as impressive. As a guy growing up in the Texas Panhandle, I didn't know much about Thai food. But since coming to Austin in the '60's, I've expanded my palate considerably. This place is a welcome addition the choices. Service is attentive and the menu offers what is often found in a Thai restaurant, but with a slight twist. The soups were tasty and the advice of the waitstaff in deciding how spicy you wanted your food was a benefit. A couple of people in my group tried curry and I had the old standard General Tso's Chicken.. I highly recommend this place

They are affordable. You can have a great meal for 4, 2 adults and two children for 35 dollars with tip. Taste great, was fast and fresh, added bonus no msg. Loved it.

Three of us went to dinner here one evening and we were not disappointed. First of all, it's not an easy place to find. It's nothing special from the outside since it appears to be just another restaurant in a strip center. But once you enter into Ka-Prow it's like you entered into another world. They have a beautifully decorated interior and a wonderful atmosphere. We all had Thai dinners - 2 had noodle dishes and 1 had a brown rice dish - and they were prepared expertly. The menu was varied and besides Thai food it included Chinese, Japanese (including sushi & shashimi) and Vietnamese recipes. The young Asian lady that waited on us was so nice and she offered us superb service. This is a gem in the rough and a place you shouldn't miss.

Chef O runs a 5/5 Thai Fusion eatery. Sushi is fresh and out of this world! My all time favorite is Spicy Chow Mein but I have never had anything on the menu that wasn’t fabulous. I’ve been a faithful customer for ~15 years. My favorite Austin restaurant and always top notch is flavor and freshness. Cates to gluten free dishes as well!

This is my favorite restaurant! As someone with celiac disease, my options for restaurant dining are pretty limited. Even places that allegedly cater to a gluten-free diet can be very haphazard about it, leading to cross-contamination. At Ka-Prow, however, they take dietary issues very seriously. Not only do they have a separate (and extensive!) gluten-free menu, but they have a system in place to make sure things that are meant to be gluten-free stay gluten-free. All meals for those with food allergies and other such restrictions come out on black plates (normal plates are white) so you can see right away that your meal is marked for your dietary restrictions. One of the most reassuring experiences I had here was an occasion where my husband's meal came out alone, and the chef came out personally to apologize to me and let me know that my meal was going to have to be remade because someone had used the wrong pan for one of the ingredients. I didn't even care that my food was late, I was just really excited and relieved to know that it was being taken that seriously! As far as the food goes, I have never had a bad meal here (and neither has my gluten-eating husband). For an appetizer, I highly recommend the spring rolls - the peanut sauce they come with is amazing. My favorite entrees are the Pad Kee Mao, the Yellow Curry, and the Spicy Grilled Duck off the dinner menu. Don't be afraid to order tofu as your protein, even if you don't normally like tofu - I have no idea what they do to it, but it's absolutely delicious. Try the sticky rice with egg custard for dessert, rather than defaulting to mango (or get both!). I've only tried two kinds of sushi here. Both were pretty good, but not exceptional. In general I'd recommend sticking to the Thai dishes. Service can be a little hit-or-miss, but it's never been outright bad. Overall, it's a great little restaurant, especially if you are gluten-free. Even if you aren't, you won't regret trying it.

This place is so amazing I wish there was a place like this where I live, I would go here all the time. I got to try a few dishes and I loved them all. My favorite was the yellow curry with chicken, very rich flavors but not spicy. The ginger chicken was also very flavorful and well done, the ginger was a little much for me to eat an entire dish, I just had a taste. The pad see ew was fresh and better than I have had at other places. We also got a bacon sushi roll, I had never had bacon in sushi but I liked it! My other favorite was the AJ roll, lots of avocado and eel sauce, with a fried crunchy outside. Sooo yummy, I want to go back again! Or convince them to open up a Chicago location......

This restaurant is possibly the best and most healthy place to eat in Pflugerville. The ingredients are fresh, the food is very tasty, and healthy. I am able to order gluten free and I never get sick after eating there like I do at other restaurants where they serve food that is full of all kinds of things that are not listed on the menu. I highly recommend that you choose Ka-Prow when you are in the Austin area.

Look for this place at Howard Ln and I-35 in a small strip center. Great food, great chef, nice staff - what more could you want? The menu has a variety of items, including gluten free and veggie dishes. Even soy wraps for sushi if you don't like seaweed. Try it - you won't be disappointed by the food or the great people.

I've been going to KaProw since it opened almost 10 years ago. Chef O takes great pride in his cuisine, and it is not only delicious, it's well-priced. I especially love his sushi. I've never tried anything I haven't enjoyed. The staff treats us like family. I can't recommend this North Austin restaurant highly enough.

My absolute favorite place! I love the Pineapple Fried Rice but really everything is great! On Friday and Saturday they have music and it's such a quaint place, just love it!

We have a lot of favorite restaurants at home - ones who do everything right - so many times when traveling, we are at least mildly disappointed. You just can't usually find places that suit your tastes on the fly... so I tend to look at reviews before we go out of town, and I am so glad I saw the reviews for Ka Prow. The food was AMAZING, excellent sushi, wonderful red curry, a grilled duck dish that was one of the best Asian dishes I've ever tried... we liked it so much that we tried to go back the next day, but they don't open til 4 on Sundays, and we had to get out of town. The service was good, slight language barrier with our server, BUT everything still came out perfectly. The atmosphere was nice and dark. Very attractive for a place in a strip mall! I give Ka Prow my highest recommendation, which means I will go back as often as I make my way to Austin!

Try Kaprow. I lived in Pflugerville for 8 years and found Kaprow to be the friendliest restaurant in town. Chef Oh is a great sushi and Thai entre chef and his lovely wife Amy is a charming hostess. With the addition of little Miles 4 years ago, adding charm and color, the restaurant is now always a must in my many yearly visits to Austin. My favorites are the Salmon curry and any of the Chefs Maki rolls. Bon apetit.

We eat at Ka Prow regularly. The food is always delicious, the customer service is excellent, and the price is right. I haven't had a meal at Ka Prow that I didn't like. Enjoy your meal but remember to save some room for dessert. The creme brulee is yummy and only $2.50 for a small serving, but a small serving is just right.

I love this place! My son lives in Austin and every time we visit from Tennessee, I want to come here. I have to eat gluten-free and they have one of the best gluten-free menus of any restaurant I've found anywhere. The servers also ask if there are any other food allergies before they put in the orders. The dishes can be adjusted to make them milder or hotter. My favorites so far are the Pad Woonsen (to which I added chicken and tofu) and the Tom Kha soup which is made with lemongrass and coconut milk. We usually go for dinner, but we went once for lunch and the place was packed. If you eat gluten-free, make sure your food is served on black dishes, otherwise, question to make sure it's gluten-free.

Addictive red curry, crazy good Spicy grilled duck, and a surprisingly good atmosphere to be had here! And the sushi is fresh and delicious. Don't let the fact that this place is in a strip shopping center put you off. We absolutely eat here at least once every time we visit Austin.
Check out their Bacon Roll - cream cheese, bacon, avocado... what more could you want?
