This place is a little off the beaten path - kind of in the Hell's Kitchen vicinity - but it was worth the walk. They have a section up front that's packed in displays with food you can take with you to go, and then there are tables in the back as more of a sit-down restaurant. There are all kinds of options in a tapas-like format - you order food in servings, like we ordered hummus and a red pepper dip with pita in double portions for the four-serving size. My three year old had a charcutterie with salami, ham and a few cheeses that were all delicious, and my father-in-law really enjoyed his Russian salad and pickled beet salad. My favorite, though, was the traditional cheese fondue I shared with my six year old son - it was SCRUMPTIOUS. We got the veggies and fruit to dip in addition to the cubed bread that comes with it, and I'm telling you, it was so good. It sounds weird to say that it was good because it wasn't uniformly creamy - it had parts that were thinner and thus soaked into the bread more easily - but in any event, it was a highlight for both of us.

Went in for the tapas and came out with a smile. The hummus was fresh, a little different and the beers were cold, the bread was warm and amazing, and the waitress was excellent and had a sense of humor that makes it a perfect visit.

Totally delicious!!! The appetizer sampler, kashkaval fondue (yum) and then all of the entrees we ordered were fantastic. At our table was the salmon in grape leaves skewer, chicken caponata, monkfish kebab and even a cheese plate,The only disappointment was the kielbasa on the cheese plate which was dry. Even though the portions are superhuman and we stuffed ourselves like the pink animals with hooves, we still had the chocolate fondue for dessert--which should not be missed. Cute atmosphere and great wait staff as well. Stacey J. was our server and she was great!!! Hoping to see her on Broadway eventually and not at Kashkaval, but clearly our dining experience was highlighted by her service. CANT wait to eat here again !!!!!!

We sat at the bar and shared a great salad and tapas for two. Everything about this place works. Great service, lovely atmosphere, delicious food and the price is fair. The walnut tapenade was amazing. We will definitely be back to try more from the menu.

My 12-year-old daughter and I were staying at the Hudson near Columbus Circle and were looking for something decent for dinner that we would both like. We each picked something from trip advisor and ended up here. Cute little place - tapas, meats and cheese, skewers. Great ambiance. Our waiter Max reminded me a little of Seth Green. My daughter got Sprite, and I ordered aa Abita light. We said we'd start with the cheese and meat plate, then decide what else we wanted. There were some tasty selections. We got a goat cheese, a soft French cheese, and prosciutto. It came on a board with honey and grapes, and was accompanies by a full basket of bread and crackers. We were stuffed, and the bill was only $23!! In NYC! The next evening after a day of shopping, my daughter begged to go back. It was quite busy, but we still got a table. max remembered us, and we ordered the same, but added a delicious rosemary ham and the beet hummus. Out of this world! I will definitely go here again.

We found this staying at the Holiday Inn on W 57th - used TA to see what was in the vicinity for dinner - so pouring with rain, we set off, it was only 200 metres away! We were immediately made to feel welcome - we sat at the bar and enjoyed a wonderful Hummus with pita bread( extra when requested!), glass of red wine each - the bill came to less than $20! Fantastic value - we'll definitely be back and passing the word around.

Very tasty food, large portions, at a reasonable price. Also has a great take out. Staff are friendly and efficient. Restaurant is small, so you may find it tough to get a table, expect a wait of 30-45 minutes.

We;ve been to Kashkaval numerous times, and each time it gets better and better. This Balkan, I believe, restaurant serves a huge variety of small plates, each freshly made and exhibited in a glass enclosed counter which allows you to visibly see exactly what each individual dish looks like. Among our favorites are a creamy hummus, fresh beets, baba ganoush, roasted cauliflower, tightly packed grape leaves, giant elephant beans, and various meze-type spreads including an olive choice as well as a splendid red pepper dish. Brunch here on Saturdays and Sundays is quite special with egg dishes you will not find in most places in the city. Eggs are served with some type of variation of other menu choices to complement the egg dishes. All are served along with a bellini or mimosa and priced very reasonably. My husband always chooses some type of kebab, whether it be chicken or a combination kebab. They are spiced perfectly and complemented by grilled vegetables and a fluffy, fragrant rice. With friends last week, we had a fondue there for the very first time. Our friends loved it, but we both thought you needed only a taste and this dish was enough for a crowd. The kashkaval cheese in the fondue was tasty, however, I prefer the cheese in its natural form as part of a cheese platter which we also had and thoroughly enjoyed. Prices here are very reasonable, service is quite good and wine prices are fair. Unfortunately, reservations are taken only for groups of six or more, and there can be a considerately long wait for tables on the weekends. If you don't mind sitting at the bar, grab a seat and dine reasonably and well at this tiny gem!!!

This is a review of the foodservice not of the cheese shop up front. I have re-read my review and may be whining too much. So let me put my conclusion first: If you like fondue, you will like this fondue and this place. You WILL pay more than you should even if it is New York. Was looking forward to this restaurant and when our group of four walked in, we were seated immediately on a Saturday night. A cozy place, great feeling. Service was friendly and efficient. We came here for the fondue, a favorite for both of us. It's not just melted cheese! We ordered three portions of fondue and paid somewhere between $14-16 per person PLUS $5 for a tiny plate of veggies and another $5 for a tiny plate of meat. That's $52 for a bowl of cheese and some bread. They're cheap with the amount of food for the money! I compare this to fondue in Paris and Key West - neither place is cheap, but they were less expensive than this place (see my reviews of Michaels in Key West and Saveurs de Savoie in Paris) and both were more generous. There was a neat spice they put in the Classic fondue which I have never had before. I liked it, the other two didn't (I think it was allspice). The cheese didn't seem to have the classic mix of booze in it - cheese was very thick. This isn't a problem, just an observation.

This place may be a deli by day, but at night it's a low-lit spot to score a lovely but reasonably priced dinner. You can make your own meat and/or cheese plate, which is fantastic. Good wine selection, nice atmosphere, and great service.

Unbeatable prices with reliable service and cozy atmosphere. Big portions of very delicious food and good house wine. Happy hour from 4 pm. Excellent grilled octopus. And nice choice of dips and salads with pita which they re calling tapas. Enjoyed every moment spent there.

This place is simply amazing! The place is tiny, but the service is wonderful. Even though it's tapas style, the portions are actually pretty big. And they have a decent selection of food and drinks you can order. Great atmosphere. I felt like I was somewhere in Europe every time I ate there. Cheap too.

Have been wanting to go to Kashkaval for a while now and finally made it on this trip. Went for lunch and got right in although there weren't any tables left there were plently of seats at the bar which was fine for us. Our server was very nice and attentive even though she was the only one for the whole place at the time (there are probably ten tables or so). We had a plate of tapas - all yummy especially the spicy walnut spread - and cheddar fondue which was delicious - served with the perfect crispy on the outside and soft on the inside bread. We had a couple of beers and a belini and thought our bill was quite reasonable. We will definitely go here again.

We shared a mixed platter appetizer, big kale salad and had skewers of chicken, lamb kofte and salmon. The lamb kofte was quite tasty.

We were in NY for a week, we like Middle East - Mediterranean food, this place has excellent service, the food is great and has a very good selection of wine at a decent price. Amanda was our server, she was always kind with us. this is the only place in NY we diced to have lunch for a second time. In general food in NYC is good, but this place was outstanding.

Inspired by the Rough guide, I paid a visit to this nice wine bar with very good food. Service was great, and the salad I took was exceptionally good.

This is a nice cosy restaurant with good fondue and spreads such as hummus and roasted eggplant spread that you can eat with pita.. also the kabobs of all types were very good, and the atmosphere is nice whether your meeting freinds, having a romantic dinner, or a drink at the bar yourself. This is definitely one of the more special/ legit restaurants in this area that is filled with mediocre but expensive touristy places

the place is basically a cheese market in the front and a restaurant in the back. they do not take reservation but we have waited like 2 minutes to be seated. than you can choose between many tapas, cheese and quick plate you can have. we decided to taste both cheese and some tapas and everything was really good and with a very good price as well

A gem in the Hell's Kitchen area! I had the Caesar Salad with chicken - it was good but the dressing was a little too oily for my taste. Portion size was terrific. We shared the small meat and cheese plate - The list to choose from is extensive and it's fun to let the waiters bring you their favorites. They also offer fondue if you have the time to sit and enjoy it!

Went to Kashkaval on a rainy winter day. Given the outside weather, the warm somewhat cramped quarters mentioned in other reviews was actually a positive. There was no wait for 2 people but it was full most of the time we were there. Had a baked omelet that appeared made from real eggs (not premade batter) and came with a good assortment of sides (the chorizo was great). The inclusion of tea and a mimosa was a nice extra touch (especially at the price point). Also tried the cheese fondue. They didn't have our first choice of cheese but the back-up option was quite good. Only issue was that the flame had no control so the cheese was boiling (and thus a little too liquid) most of the time. On the way out, bought some chocolate coconut macaroons (delicious). A good time all around.

My husband went here for a pre-show sunday brunch and we quite pleased! We were sat immediately although the service that followed was a little slow. The tables are super close together but it's really cute with exposed brick walls and wood trim windows. My husband ordered the brunch special and I ha the Spanish brunch. Both come with unlimited drinks (including mimosas and bellinis) for only $13! I have never had a meal in NYC for such a great value! Don't forget to check out the cheese shop in the front! Try Gjetost for breakfast with honey a special treat! I'm already planning to come back on our next trip in NYC!

Great place for wine, cheese and middle eastern dippers. All yummy.

Went there for lunch with my friends from out of town. He said he booked the restaurant based on goo positive reviews. The food was very average, took us a while to get service but the waiter was pleasant and patient.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. If there weren't any reviews already, I might have refrained from reviewing it, since I'd like to keep it a secret. As it is, expect to have to wait if you go for dinner, since the restaurant is small and doesn't accept reservations (at least for small groups). But it's worth the wait, as the food is delicious! Just last night I had the Swiss Cheese Fondue and it was really good. I've been to Kashkaval several times over the past few years, and it never disappoints. They also have a great wine list. The restaurant in itself is tiny and tables are very close to each other, so you have to be ok with that. But it's cozy and the atmosphere is very nice. I would definitely recommend it for a date night! Service has always been pleasant, maybe not super fast, but you don't go to such a nice restaurant in a rush. In short, great, great restaurant!

We had a group of 20 people celebrating an event. We were seated in a room at the far end of the restaurant, along with another group. The service could not have been better, and they kept bringing plate after plate of a variety of their dishes, which we shared. The food was beautifully presented, and really delicious. I can't say enough about the staff. Working with a large group can be difficult, but they did it all beautifully.

Disappointing. We'd made a booking for a group, deliberately choosing to reserve in the dining room rather than the garden. A mistake by a host meant that the only table that was free was in the garden. The hostess was not apologetic. Service was average at best. It took forever to be acknowledged, the attitude brought by the staff might best be described as "going through the motions." Not rude, but not great. The menu is fairly small and focused on Middle Eastern classics--mezze plus grilled skewers. The staff was disinterested in helping tables make selections. We ordered a mezze platter and a variety of skewers. The mezze platter was acceptable, with tasty dips, but nothing spectacular (think: grocery-store grade hummus--not bad, but hardly unique). The skewers, on the other hand, were gross: "octopus" was actually squid (with no acknowledgement from the restaurant), and disgustingly rubbery; chicken was tough and leathery; mushrooms were flavorless. It all made for a pretty soulless meal. Would not return.

We happened by here while exploring the Hell's Kitchen area and it looked so appealing we decided to come back for dinner. When we got back, the restaurant was packed. As it is small, we did not hold out much hope but the hostess /server gave us some options and we said that we were happy to eat at the bar. She was very organized, got us drinks and kept us up-to-date on where we were in the line and were sitting down in 15 minutes. Not sure how she kept track, but was very efficient. We split a main course, chicken Kabob and a mixed tapas of 4 salad type choices and all were delicious, as was the wine. It is a fun and tasty experience.

2 couples Visiting from Florida and wanted something different for lunch. Found this place on trip advisor as we were ridding bikes around the city. It was very good and the waiter was very patient, knowledgeable and helpful as we were asking him a lot of questions about the menu. We ordered chicken kabobs, meatball and 5 tapas to share! Tapas was great kabobs were good and meatballs were ok. Definatly recommend checking this place out! Oh the local bear was good...about 60.00 for the 4 of us, not bad for something unique n NY City!

The only problem I encountered was that my cheese fondue was a bit too liquid (I compared with someone beside me who ordered the exact same fondue and it was not the same texture at all) and I never got the chance to complain about it to the waiter because he disappeared until it was time to pay... The tables are a bit too close from each other, it felt like we were eating at the same table as our "neighbours" but I guess that's the price to pay when you eat in a popular place. Everything else was delicious (olives and my husbands Chicken Kebab). I was told it was going to close in a few months, that's too bad because it's the kind of spots where I like to eat and I would go back.

The place looks fancier that it really is. The types of cheese and appetizers they present in the the food window seems so delicious but when we ordered it didn't seem to me as tasty, probably we didn't order the right dishes from the menu. The place is so small and over crowded, tables are very adjacent to each other

Nice, small wine bar with excellent tapas at reasonable price. The baba ganoush and guacamole are great.

My wife and I went here for July 4th weekend. The food was good. Cheese fondue was great with the baguette bites. Cold tapas were good, especially the walnut spread. However, the meat dippings with cheese foundue were just ok. The restaurant is reasonably priced for Hells Kitchen. I would go there again.

We sat at the bar because no tables were available. The bar seating was a little tight, both to the side and in back of the seat. Good news - the bartender, who was also our food server, was great. Very attentive and a genuinely nice guy. My partner and I split the 4 tapas plate and 2 skewers, kind of thinking it wouldn't be much food and we would go to another place for further tapas. It was a ton of food and filled us both up. We had the spinach feta (fabulous!), the brussels sprouts (pretty good) the kale and bean (wonderfully spiced and excellent) and the beet skordelia (wonderful). We had one octopus skewer, one of the best octopus dishes I've ever had and one artichoke and proscuitto skewer which was also really good. The restaurant was a little on the loud side and definitely not spacious, but it was still a decent atmosphere. The food was top notch. Best of all, we had dinner for 2 with one glass of wine for $42 and left full and satisfied.

Came in from the cold looking for an early dinner. We were seated and offered drinks promptly. Initially we were looking for a rather filling meal but the tapas-style menu was so tempting we ordered a few items in addition to a main meal. Loved the flexibility of the menu, which allows you to order sampler plates of various sizes. The hummus and beets were fantastic, the roasted cauliflower was good. The eggplant and chicken dish was delicious and filling, and they substituted one of the wheat-based sides with a huge greek salad without asking (requested not to add the couscous, and the plate came with the salad which was very nice). Great value for the food, especially in NYC. We lingered for a while as the ambiance was pleasant and the tables filled up quickly, generating a low-volume bar kind of vibe. A nice place to hang out with friends for drinks and tapas to unwind.

From Trip Advisor description we were surprised to find less deli and more pub-style that we'd anticipated. Don't really want to put the place down but our dinner was pretty average. I'd describe this as more of a Manhattan neighborhood pub than a real deli. Also a bit hard to classify as # 82 of 8,972 NYC restaurants. Really ? - In the top 1% ? Not from our experience anyway.

Really good tapas and cheese selections in a cozy setting. The food is very fresh and most of it is displayed in cooler case at the take out counter. This little place is a gem.

Also in my old neighbourhood, went here once with a group of friends. What stuck out was the service - really not great. It was a crowded place and the waiters were NOT friendly or accomodating. The food itself was great - a nice of selection of meats and other Mediterranean food. Would go again but maybe on a weekday after work to avoid the madness.

A very nice setting and good staff. We went to eat here after Route 66 Cafe as the good there was inedible and my Mom was hungry. Good food and imaginative. Nice staff and good all around.

Don't be fooled by the word Tapas. This place has huge servings. The food was delicious and there is a great selection. The wine selection is also impressive. If you go before 6pm during the week they have happy and glasses of wine are 50% off.

Two couples stopped in for an earl dinner on a Friday night. We started at the bar with their happy hour wine and excellent draft beer. We were seated by the friendly host within minutes. We ordered one of their fondues and a large selection of different mediteranean tapas, served with a basket of pita. As usual, it was all fresh and excellent. We have been coming here for years and it's one of our Hell's Kitchen faves.....during Happy Hour, our wine was under $9 and beer under $7.

Our dinner at Kashkaval was a pleasure and we hope to go back in the future. The establishment is one that lends itself to relaxing. Cozy and narrow (like many in NYC) the front is for seating and the bar toward the back. Our table was along the wall, which was perfect. Beyond the setting, we sampled a number of items and all were excellent. The wait staff was equally good. If you are in the area, it is certainly worth the experience.

A neighborhood restaurant in New York with a mix of Bulgarian, middle eastern, Swiss, Quebec and other cuisines. They have small plates, sandwhiches, salads, kabobs, middle eastern dips, etc. 4 of us sampled at least 20 different dishes, each of which was excellent and each of which was different from each other dish. The service was excellent without being pushy or overly attentive. The waiter even gave great suggestions. We would each go again.

We were looking for an inexpensive, but sit-down, restaurant before a concert in the Time-Warner Center at Columbus Circle. What a find! It a cheese shop/wine bar, but thats what made it fun. We got 2 entrees and the large appetizer platter shared by 4 of us. It was plenty of food and everything was delicious. It seem like mid-eastern or Greek, but apparently it is Bulgarian cuisine. the brick wall and wooden table gave a warm cozy (maybe small) atmosphere. Try to get a table in the back; those next to the bar in front get brushed by passing guests.

We trekked up Broadway after catching a show for a bite to eat and a drink. We ordered a delicious spinach and feta dish served with plenty of pitta bread, lamb kofte and asparagus with melted cheese. Excellent food and great red wine and beer. Well worth the walk up and down to Times Square!

Cheese cases hid the crowded but intimate bar/restaurant in the back. Go early-5-6:00 or be prepared to wait. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our service came fast but the people next to us were brought the wrong order twice. A little more hands on management would fix that. No complaints from us. Good quick food, fresh and attractive.

The atmosphere is very intimate with candles and lots of wine. The place is pretty small, making it even more intimate and cozy. The prices of beer is decent and the wines are a bit more expensive. The food was delicious, I had the spinach pastry and my boyfriend had the turkey meatballs. It was delicious!

This is a "mediterannean" deli/restaurant in Midtown that my daughter and I finally got into on our second NYC visit, mainly because we stopped in at approx. 4:30 PM. As other reviews have noted, this place is VERY popular with the locals and rightly so. If you stop in around 6:00 or later, you'll have quite a long wait. The front of the restaurant is the deli/take-out section with the sit-down restaurant in the back. Quite crowded and noisy, so definitely not a "romantic evening" type place, but wonderful small plates/tapas and excellent fondue. Great happy hour wine prices. Heard all the details of our next-door tablemates first date, but considered the whole atmosphere part of the charm. Would definitely go back. Also, I believe they do deliver.

Excellent food, flavours were amazing. I highly recommend the goat cheese salad! Awesome Mediterranean restaurant and the service was 10/10.

Definitely a must. Old world mixed in with new world food. Had kashkaval when I was growing up. My grandmother made these great spinach pies that we called " desayuno " and Kashkaval calls Boreks. In addition there are a variety of fondues, panini's and comfort food. Intimate setting , friendly & helpful service, reasonable pricing. 856 9th Ave between 55 & 56 212-581-8282

A visit to Kashkaval (which is actually a type of cheese on their menu) makes for an unusual and delightful dining experience. As others have noted, the front portion of the shop sells the cheeses and tapas that are available on the dining room's menu, located to the rear. The decor is warm and traditional, with exposed brick, dark stained wood, and wine bottles lining the walls. The two of us ordered a mixed cheese plate and a mixed tapas plate. The menu offers a great variety of cheeses to choose from; soft, hard, very ripe, mild, etc., listed by the country they're from. Don't be mislead by the term 'tapas' since the numerous choices are not particularly Spanish. The selection covers all bases with Mideastern, Mediterranean, and Eastern European-influenced choices. Some of the many options include delicious spreads and appetizers that are comprised of items such as eggplant, beets, grape leaves, nuts...and even the tiny brussels sprouts are tasty. This is an easy place for vegetarians to eat. There are meat plates and some main courses with meat, but we easily put a meal together with the complete absence of meat, and we're not vegetarians. A tip might be to go for dinner early, since the space is rather cramped and fills up after 6pm or so. We also found (when we were there, anyway) that "Happy Hour" is between 5 and 6 and wine by the glass is $5. If you especially like anything that you've eaten you can purchase more to bring home from the counter in front. Dinner for two, with more food than we could finish, and a glass of wine each, came to $50. Our servers were very pleasant and efficient. Kashkaval is a good place to dine prior to a concert at Lincoln Center, which is only a ten-minute walk.

Absolutely loved this place! Where else in the city can you get a bottle of wine, meats and cheeses, and tons of appetizers for under $50. I was amazed. The service was excellent, and food was great. They don't take reservations but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table on a Thursday night. The place is really cozy and we didn't want to leave. We will definitely be back.

This place has a great wine by the glass selection, good prices, and very good cheese/tapas selection and quality. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The space is compact and during peak hours can be noisy. However, the wine, food and service quality will make your return an easy decision. Enjoy.

This little gem was a truly lucky find for me. I just happened upon it ( after seeing the small cheese market in the front ) and thought to give it a try. Delightful service, amazing food and a bottom line that is quite wallet friendly. Their mezes (tapas) and wonderful and the sampler plate gives you a very generous portion. We opted for the small plate (three items) and I loved the spicy walnut 'paté'. I have travelled extensively in Greece and Turkiye and this place brought back many fond memories of the cuisine I enjoyed there. They have an array of fondue there as well but my wife and I did not order these so I cannot rate them. Do yourself a favour and make a point to visit on your next trip to NY.

Awesome place to go if you just want a quick, cheap and tasty bite to eat. The venue is a deli that has a bar and eatery at the back. The idea is that you order a variety of dips and share them. The hummus and the spinach and feta were amazing. The place has a great atmosphere and I thoroughly recommend it!

This was a fabulous experience. Four of us went there at 10 pm on a Friday night during a rainstorm, and the restaurant was jammed. They offer a variety of Mediterranean tapas, fabulous salads, sandwiches, and a variety of specials. We had the turkey meatball plate (one of their specialties) and the grilled chicken kebab platter. I also ordered the mustard chicken and gruyere sandwich (although I could not taste the mustard). There was plenty of great food, the service was excellent, and the experience was wonderful. I want to return to this restaurant.

We had read about this place before leaving for NYC and as luck would have it, it was right around the corner from our hotel. We had the medium share platter with olive tapenade, hummus, guacamole, tabouleh and spinach & feta. It's WAY more food than it seems when you're ordering so order small and then order more if you need it because just the one medium was too much food for two of us (& we both like to eat). Guacamole was just ok for me (and i LOVE guacamole) because it was a bit oily. Everything else was fantastic. We also ordered brie and baguette because we couldn't resist and the brie was ... yummm. Decent prices for everything too. Was around $30 and we had too much food.

Kashakaval was one of the reasons why I chose Hell’s Kitchen to live. No joke. What makes Kashkaval so great for me is that it is a market, deli, wine bar, and restaurant all wrapped up in one little package. I first came here for the fondue. Upon sitting down, I see the massive (affordable) wine list and and extensive “tapas” list. I put this in quotes because it’s not tapas in the Spanish style tapas. At Kashkaval, it’s all about dips. I love dips. Dipping bread, dipping veggies, dipping meats– I love it all. The beauty of Kashkaval is that most of the menu is dips. And not just your average salsa or humus dip–though there is that along with baba ghanoush and guacamole. More interesting are the other dips. We're talking Roasted red pepper spread, walnut pepper spread, Skordalia (beet spread), artichoke dip, elephant beans, and many more! Moreover, they have a fantastic wine menu and the signature namesake Kaskaval Cheese fondue- completely awesome and great to share with friends or your hunny!

Kashkaval is a real find. We had an early lunch and had their 6 spread selection, and each was delicious with pita bread. Clearly one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Hells Kitchen. Definitely give it a try.

We visited Kashkaval late one week night with our family and a group of friends. At the entrance we thought we were going into a cheese shop as the restaurant is in back. The food was wonderful. The atmosphere relaxing with an old world appeal. We ordered the appetizer sampler platter and it was the best we've ever had. Great hummus, stuffed grape leaves, etc. all really wonderful. Our son ordered the cheese fondue and felt it was truly over the top! This coming from someone who's never been crazy about cheese. My husband and I ordered the kabobs and loved them. The variety of Mediterranean food was fantastic- we'll definitely return when in the area.

visted this plac on first day wiht a friend and food was exclelent so called again to eat and also took some food to a freinds. People so friendly .

Stop into this small restaurant randomly and found it to be a gem! The service was great. Francois the bartender was informative, helpful and spot on with recommendations. The food exploded with flavor with a wide variety of dishes. The Kofta was great, but the tapas spreads were phenomenal. A bit hidden on 9th between 57th and 58th, but really worthwhile to visit while in NYC.

I went here with a friend while visiting the city. We had to wait about half an hour for a table (they don't take reservations) but it was totally worth the wait. The atmosphere and decor is quite cosy, they pack people tightly as it is quite small. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and went for both a cheese board and a tapas board. The waitress warned us it would be too big for the two of us but she also said she could pack it up for us after if it was the case so we decided to go for it, we couldn't decide on what cheese we should get rid of! We had a few dips with pitta, all delicious and the cheese board was immense! They give you really good portions of the cheese and she was right, we had to take most of it home but that just meant we got to snack on that delicious cheese for the rest of the week, no loss there!

This is a great little restaurant. I used to live around the corner and would literally eat 5 meals a week here. Now that I've moved, I still make special trips to go here, and my friends always ask for it! A great (if small-ish) wine selection, and a really superb selection of cheeses and spreads makes this a perfect place to take friends and share some little plates. (My favorite combo: elephant beans, olive tapenade, beet skordalia, babaganoush.) This was the restaurant I was frequenting when I fell in love with New York. May it remain for a long time.

We miss you! We miss you so much! I still love Kashkaval Garden but oh how I miss Giant Elephant Beans... I dream about them. The menu at the original Kashkaval was just so amazing!!! Please Please Please find a new home and open again soon with the same food! And don't forget the Elephant Beans!

You can tell a lot about a menu by the quality of their hummus and it was delicious. We started with a plate of pitta, hummus, artichoke, Tapenade etc which was top notch. The second set of Tapas included filet mignon, marinated prawns on a skewer and spicy chicken and again very more-ish! All washed down with a lovely wine, what more could you ask for? The staff were friendly and professional, the ambiance was charming and relaxing and the bill didn't increase your blood pressure! Superb, we'll be back.

Cheap, cheerful and amazing. This is definitely a neighbourhood gem. Perfect for lunches, snacks, dinners, before bed snack. I had an amazing goat cheese salad for lunch while sitting at the bar. That was the best/biggest/yummiest salad I've ever had for $11.98. Other diners were having tapas and loads of wine-by-the-glass at equally astonishing prices (by NYC standards). If I lived in the neighbourhood I would be a regular!

A local hangout for good reason - generous and tasty tapas portions in a unique and inviting atmosphere. A great find!

This a welcoming place - intimate - and filled with great vibs. The building is small so you sit very close to your fellow patrons but it is a neighborhood favorite and the food is terrific. We ordered a couple of appetizers and a couple of main dishes and shared between the three of us. I have never tasted a kale salad that was SO good. The kbobs and flatbreads were great too. The best part is the food was so delicious that you don't even realize it is all good for you! The food was satisfying. The wine was much better quality than I expected.

Went with a group of six, everything was delicious and the service was outstanding. The interior of the place is really nice. This place has to one of the bets values in the area, I was astonished at the amount of food we received--and every bite was delicious.

This cozy wine bar with a solid beverage and Mediterranean tapas menu (as well as other light fare like paninis) is a great place to meet friends for drinks and a light snack. There's a take-out fancy deli in the front, so you might assume that's all there is here. But, wander toward the back. A nice spacious bar and a number of small tables give the place a cozy feel. Service was friendly and efficient. I'll go back, especially because it's a 10-minute walk south of Lincoln Center, a place I frequent.

Quaint spot. Very small. Nice atmosphere. Good selection of wine. Food was ok. The service was terrible. I asked our server about the portion sizes, she wasn't really able to answer. She brought our food & never came back. We would have had another glass of wine, maybe more food. We went to the bar to pay. The guy said our server finished her shift & went home. I explained that she didn't tell us & no one came by to check on us. He said well I didn't see you ask for anything. Seems the service is an overall issue here.

This place is an amazing find, the food is out of this world! I have tried the Turkish Soujouk (which was amazing) Kashkaval cheese fondue, and the sampler dip platter ( Baba Ganoush, roasted red peppers, and Guacamole) and was in heaven. The quantities are generous and very reasonably priced. The waitress was also very friendly and helpful...all in all, was one of the best brunches I had in a long time

Great place for tapas you like variety this is the place for you. A wonderful find the food was fresh flavorful and delicious.

Very friendly staff, great food and cute little seating arrangments. Very busy though!!

The food at Kashkaval is seriously good. The talking stops because everyone is too busy eating and the service is great. I love going to unwind with a glass of wine or a cocktail and some amazing food. It's a relatively small restaurant so it can get a bit crowded but that's to be expected in NYC especially at a quality restaurant.

Perhaps a decent place as a store, but as a food establishment, it leaves a lot to be desired.

What a difficult decision it is to return to kashkaval. The food was excellent! But is it worth the conditions. The tables are very small. Parties of three are seated at tables of two, on the other hand, maybe the tables seem small because of the large portions of delicious tapas, cheeses, meats, and fondue. It is the place to over order because the prices are so reasonable, you might as well have eyes that are bigger than your stomach. But, it was so noisy, the boisterous, young, attractive hells kitchen crowd enjoying the food, and reasonable wine list with friends. Being not so young and boisterous I will have to sit on this dilemma for a while until I am lured back by the thought of deliciousness.

We got to the restaurant right at 6:00 on a Friday night and it was already packed. After waiting about 20 minutes we opted to eat at the bar. We were sitting elbow to elbow. But, it was worth it! We had a meat and cheese dish and a fruit platter. For dessert we had baklava. Every dish was served with assorted nuts, olives and fruit. The wine list was plentiful and affordable. The entire evening was delightful. The best part was the bill! Folks, if you can put up with the cramped space and a crowded floor, you'll be pleasantly surprised. This place is a hidden gem.

Having been to a place nearby and hated it, we decided we still needed to eat so we went to Kashkaval. Really good servers, decent priced food with something for everyone even the kids. will go again when we come to New York again.

A great and tasty experience, mediterranean dishes with great selection of wines to pair with. Lentil soup and chicken kebabs are excelent!

We visited on a Thursday night and had great service. It is crowded but by locals..not tourists. We enjoyed a meze platter with delicious beets, eggplant caponata, spinach with feta, tzatziki sauce, dolma (stuffed grape leaves), toasted baguette with ajvar and goat cheese and sujuk (like a homemade sausage). I do not like a lot of meat but my husband said the sujuk was delicious. I enjoyed every bite of our vegetarian meze platter served with warm pita. Wine selection is not expensive but you can certainly find lots to choose from. We saw many getting their food to go as well. When I return I would like to try their fondue.

An interesting place with a variety of wonderful cheese which can be matched with a good wine list. Nice tapas skewers and fondue as well. The poutine is unusual, filling and very good. Recommended for a late night snack.

We have had the pleasure of dining at Kashkaval many times when visiting NYC. We often stop here for a light meal of hummus, pitas, tapas, and a glass of beer and wine. The flavors are delightful and the enticing! Prices are just right (especially for NYC), the staff is gracious and the atmosphere is welcoming. A very nice, comfortable eatery!

This was our second visit and it contines to impress. Small and friendly with great wine and tapas. Good prices and a great variety. I loved my veggie tapas especially the spinach and feta salad. My husband ordered grilled shrimp skewers served with a tasty and spicy squash dish. Great cheese and meat boards too.

I was in town for a show and staying nearby and gave this a try based on the reviews. Very nice place, great variety of tapas and cheeses, limited but good wine selection. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive. Definitely on my list when I come back.

My second visit to this bar/deli/restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Very relaxed atmosphere with attentive service, delicious tapas, varied wine list and good music. Food is fresh, fresh, fresh and varied. Excellent selection of cheeses. Lots of atmosphere with locals aplenty wining and dining. Highly recommend if you casual dining is your thing.

I had a Babaganoush as a starter which was ok. For my taste not well balanced enough with the garlic and lemon. Somehow it tasted not good enough to rate it as "very good". It came with warm pita bread. But the portion was huge. They have various starters (Tapas). One for 8$. Four for 15$. For a single person not a practical concept. As a "main" I chose grilled octopus & filet mignon and as a side the caponata. Comes along with sauce and tzatziki. All in all enough to feed a man. But I'd rather go for quality than quantity. The food was nicely arranged. But - here we go: The octopus was kind of lame. Not chewy - no complaints here. On the correct cooked side. But not very tasty. The filet mignon - well done instead of well, done. The quality of the beef not bad but somehow it lacked flavor. Which brings me to the Sicilian vegetables - hot but lacking some taste as well. Overcooked (stew style) therefore very tender. And again for my taste not enough flavor. The open wine was good and chilled. The place is nice and designed. The light concept is atmospherically illuminated. Nice place for a rendez vous. Not noisy as other places. The staff is very friendly. Other stuff coming out of the kitchen looked fine.

We showed up with no reservation at about 7pm on a Friday night--just two of us. We were seated about 20 minutes later and served promptly. The food was great and the staff was all very kind. It's amazing how small the place is--probably about 8 tables total and another 10 seats at the bar. But they are so efficient, without being pushy, that it didn't hold up the service. They have cheese and/or meat platters, tapas--dips with pita, fondue, and entrees. Lots of variety with a Mediterranean basis. Everything tasted great and I'd love to go back to try a bunch of things I didn't get to on this visit. My husband and I shared a small cheese platter (healthy servings of 3 cheeses with fruit and baguette slices), a small tapas plate (4 scoops of dips and pita slices), and a turkey meatball platter (came with salad and orzo). That was plenty of food and we even had some tapas left over to take home. Highly recommend Kashkaval--I can totally see being a regular here if I lived in the city!

Love this cute little neighborhood spot. Great for a low-key night out and Very reasonably priced...you just have to put up with some flighty and incinsistent service...

Just come back from lunch at Kashkaval. It was a very pleasant and tasty experience. Kashkaval is three things in one: a delicatessen, a wine bar and a restaurant. A colleague and I had a good selection of items for lunch a spinach and feta-style Borek and salad, and a collection of ample sized tapas including dips like tapenade, taramasalata, roasted brussels sprouts, a delicious cauliflower dish and some ajar (a mix of roasted red peppers,,eggplant and oil). $15 for five large tapas with excellent sharp and zesty flavors is really good value. The wine selection also looked excellent and was reasonably prices and I plan to come back and put those items to the test as well. Pleasant wait staff and a great deli selection. And all of this within 5 or 6 blocks of Lincoln Center. One final comment: we didn't try desserts but we just loved the fact that this Greek-Spanish-Italian-Turkish restaurant served a classic Jewish central and eastern European dish - ruggelach. I guess thats New York for you!

We love going to Kashkaval and sampling a variety of tapas items and getting their chicken kebob. Large portions which can be shared.

We selected our own mezze platter from a large menu, then cheddar and ale fondue. Delicious lunch in a cozy setting.

We ordered the turkey meatballs and the Raclette and Fontina fondue... Both were devine with the bottle of Rioja... What an interesting wine menu as well! The warm atmosphere made us feel so cozy... And to top off the evening the baklava was delish!

We had a wonderful glad of wine and tasty cheese fondue as well as some interesting vegetable and spreads from the deli case. This is a great place and I would definitely feel okay eating alone here.

My mother and I ate here at the suggestion of a New York friend. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday night via subway and brief walk after a day at the Natural History museum. We were seated right away at a small table next to the bar and enjoyed attentive but relaxed service by our waitress. We had a bottle of wine and a small sampler platter of four tapas including spicy walnut pepper spread (our favorite), pickled beets (yum), eggplant caponata, and stuffed grape leaves, accompanied by a basket of warm pita bread. For dessert we had a delicious sampler plate of various pastries and fruit with cup of chocolate for dipping. The entire bill including tax was just $53. I will definitely return on my next visit to New York.

My husband want k-bobs so I found this restaurant on Yelp. No reservations for a party less than 6 and very surprised to find how small this restaurant was, we were lucky to get seats at the back bar facing frosted glass on the other side of the kitchen. Service was good. All the food was really good. Domades, hummus, Tzatziki, Babaganoush with Pita bread for appetizers. I had arugula and mint salad with a shrimp k-bob. The shrimp was so good. It has been so long since a had large grilled shrimp. Cooked perfectly. My husband and daughter had steak, chicken and shrimp kabobs with Coucous and little feta and tomato salad. Skipped on dessert. Along with a couple of beers and soda. This place was easy on the wallet. I would definitely go here again! And I recommend this place!

The Cheddar and Cider fondue is absolutely worth a trip to this area of town. We like it with the fruit and veggie plate, but everything we have eaten here is absolutely delicious. They offer a weekend brunch, and the prices are not bad for Manhattan. Highly recommended.

We had a really great time at this busy, wonderful eatery. We enjoyed their large choice of tapas and then got into some wonderful fondue choices. High energy atmosphere, great service and food to want to return quickly for!

Wonderful meal of Greek tapas dishes and cheese fondue. Great service, friendly staff. A bit hard to find, but well worth the trip.

Relatively unknown, cozy atmosphere, decent fondue.

This is one of my go-to spots every time I visit NYC. Located on 9th Avenue between 55th and 56th Street, Kashkaval is a cheese and gourmet foods market in the front, and an intimate, candlelit wine and cheese bar in the back. My favorites are the hummus, curried chicken salad, and the fondue with all the awesome cheese selections. Also, Kashkaval, if you're listening, bring back the guacamole on the menu pleeeeease! I love this place!

Service is fantasic, great prices and food. You have a good selection and great quality, no rush and a spotless place. We always go here when we are in NYC. GREAT.Maybe not so much for kids but a great place.

This 9th Avenue find has a warm wooden interior and a cozy back room . It felt good on a cool December afternoon and the food and wine was amazing. We had 4 skewers- shrimp, kofte, turkey meatballs, and octopus. All were prepared well; some mildly spicy and all delicious. The accompanying kale salad with figs and walnuts, their most popular we were told, was also very good. They have a ample wine list . We had a couple glasses of Australian shiraz , which were decent pours, and which went very well with our meal. All in all, it was a great meal and a great new find.

Managed to get a table in this busy restaurant. Service was good, although they missed out a meal which was later than the rest of the party. The skewers and tapas were nice and well cooked. The downside was the baklava which, was overpowered by cinnamon, very dry and definitely the worst ive had bearing in mind ive had baklava in both Turkey and Greece made in the traditional way where it should ooze with honey and stick all layers together. However their citrus and pistachio cake was on point.

We only found this because we went to a really bad diner a few doors up and wanted to find somewhere else. REALLY GOOD. Clean , great food and service.

We had a sampler of the appetizer and Greek fare, both were very good. Serving was large and ordering a sampler of both was way too much for 2 people. Wine was decent, but the service left very much to be desired. At the end I had to go ask where my waiter was to discover that he was sitting at the bar flirting with 2 girls. No apology, and after he brought my check he was back to flirting. There are too many other great places in NYC to ask for a second chance...

This restaurant was recommended by a police officer on the street, it was packed, the music was great, Marvin Gay to Louis Armstrong, the atmosphere was warm and quaint. Brian our waiter was so sweet and helpful, he recommended a delicious Malbec. We ordered a plate with 4 tapas: Babaganoush, Squash, artichokes and roasted peppers with nuts all served with warm pita bread. It all tasted so incredible, we enjoyed every bite. Then we got 4 skewers: steak filet, marinated chicken breast, octopus and salmon wrapped in grape leaves! That was unbelievably good, we loved everything! So for desert we got the Baklava and the chocolate tart which was decadent and served with raspberry glaze and mascarpone cheese on top. I took photos of everything and will recommend this restaurant to everyone! I can't wait to come back here with my kids! I had a perfect dinner experience.

We visited this place when staying at the Holiday Inn on 57th St, New York City. It was within a block of the hotel. It is a small place and always busy, in fact we could not get seating for three on our first visit. We visited them again the next day and got only seat at the counter. The food here is fabulous. The service is friendly and fast. They have a good selection of tapas, cheeses and wines. The portions are not small. Take out food is available. The place is small, one can almost miss it when walking on the street. If you are in the neighborhood do not miss it. You will enjoy your visit.

This is an Eastern European/mediterranean food store and restaurant --run by Bulgarians. We shared a fondue--also called Kashkaval, which is a Balkan hard cheese. Very good and enough for a meal. It was only $12 and that is a deal in NY for a pot of bubbly cheese and plenty of crusty bread for dipping. Wine was OK and also inexpensive. Also ordered a Mediterranean Tapas sampler which includes 4 items--one of the three eggplants, ajvar (different from any we'd ever had but very good), artichoke and hummus. This would have been enough for the two of us as well. Fun/funky and ridiculously inexpensive for Manhattan. Very popular with locals so get there early!

I had read some good reviews on this place and as I was staying in hotel near it thought I would pop in for a glass of wine & cheese. It doesn't look much from the outside but was cosy and inviting. 7pm on a Thursday night we were lucky to get a table. It's small and quite crammed as it was so busy. The wine list is good and so is the food we had. Cheese plate was nicely put together and so was the meze/tapas selection we had. All was fresh and tasty. Looked like the customers were local and a friendly crowd. Service was ok but the staff appeared a bit overwhelmed with the crowds.

we ate here for lunch 3 days in a row as it was close to our hotel and we loved it so much. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere and decor was great. On the first and second days we had the lunch menu and it was great value and taste even better, on the third day we had the breakfast menu which was $12 for champagne and orange or coffee and a meal out of a large choice which my family chose four different ones and were all delicious. This place would also be great to go to on a date or with friends in the evening but bookings would be necessary as it is very busy in the evening

I particularly appreciated the great and carefully selected cheeses to eat with baguette or in a fondue. I'd recommend going to the deli first then the restaurant/bar later so you can try out the cheeses, etc that you like. The bar is gorgeous at night. An intimate, and surprisingly non-crowded spot.

I love Mediterranean style food, and the similar flavors (for lack of a better name for the style). I suspect in a town famous for the quantity and quality of Halal food, it’s a tall prospect for a restaurant to live up to. This didn’t. Chicken skewers were good, not great. Lamb skewers (keftke) not great. Flatbread with lamb wasn’t good. Hummus/stuffed grape leaves/babaganoush (sp) were good, but whole wheat pita from the grocery store? Slap yo self. Pass

Don't let the exterior fool you. This looks like a small cheese shop from the front. However, once you walk in there are tables in the back that make for a cosy and convivial atmosphere. We had 8 in our party and ordered tons if food. Curry chicken salad, kebobs, Caesar salad and a bruschetta with tepanade .... All delicious. Then we ordered different fondues... Traditional Swiss, a

I loved this place! This little place has a lot of character and the food was great. We stopped by late after a long day and were quickly greeted by the staff who got us a seat. The food was awesome with very good baba ganoush. Come here if you and some friends want to go out for drinks, very extensive wine collection

If you like Mediterranean tapas, fondue, and wine then you'll love this cozy wine bar! My husband and I went with a friend of ours on a Monday night at 7:30. Upon entering I instantly saw the pros- that the place is cute with exposed brick walls and candles, has a cozy bar, a good wine list, (a deli/cheese shop if you want items "to go") and a comfy dining area in the back. The cons were that they don't take reservations for parties less than 6 people and though it was a Monday it was very crowded so we had to stand in the cramped bar/hallway area for 25 minutes to wait for a 3 top table. The wine we had while waiting was very good and reasonably priced for midtown. The wait was worth it too! Once we got our table we had a delicious, long, leisurely dinner. We had a sampler plate of lentil salad, hummus, artichoke, spinach/feta and tabouli served with pita. It was delicious and filling. Then we moved on to a cheese and meat plate generously garnished with dried fruits and nuts, huge olives and fresh berries. Moving on from that we had the cheddar and ale fondue accompanied by bread we also ordered veggies and meats to dip. The entire meal was delicious and filling. We actually had no room for dessert or even to finish our meal as the portions were so generous. I highly recommend going here but go with a larger group to get a reservation or just two so you can sit at the bar.

We stopped here for a quick lunch prior to a show on Broadway this past weekend. My wife and I were in the mood for vegetables and had 2 friends along for the ride so we shared about 8-10 veggie dishes and a cheese/meat plate. So much for a lite bite! The spreads/salads/veggies were great. The cheese and chorizo/salumi plate was excellent as well. This place is a cheese shop which has a few tables in the back. Service was just ok- i.e. slow, but friendly and helpful. In fairness to the waitress the salad plates have to be assembled and it was pretty busy. This is a great place. I would definitely go here again.

Tucked away on 9th Avenue behind deli. Great for lunch/brunch - using ingredients from the deli - cheeses, olives etc. Greek, Bukgarian etc salads, delicious cheese fondues, charcuterie. Cowded tables but cozy atmosphere. Service not great!!!

This little cheese market and wine bar is one of our favorite stops before or after a performance at Lincoln Center, boasting great variety and some excellent menu items. We can't resist the spicy walnut pepper spread, and the lentil salad, baba ganoush and olive tapenade are winners, too. We typically order sampler plates of five tapas and three chesses and get out totally stuffed for around $40 with wine. The atmosphere's sweet, in some ways reminiscent of wine bars in Paris or other European cities. One of New York's little delights. They do take out and cater, too.

The thing about Kashkaval is, it's really popular. In Manhattan, that means crowded. It;s sort of like the Yogi Bera quote- "it's too crowded, nobody goes there any more." There's a reason for that. If you happen to be a wine, cheese, and tapas lover, this is probably one of the best places to go- and probably one of the best Happy Hours in Midtown (and there are many!) Lots of lovely and tasty little foods. Great prices on wine by the glass during their Happy Hour- pretty expensive the rest of the time. Of course, everything in Manhattan ends up pretty expensive, so if you just don't care, write that off, and go to Kashkaval any old time! Great food, really earnest and caring chefs and staff. When I say people won't like it, it's because it will be really crowded, almost always. Once you get in, the table jamming is not exactly a relief. You will be VERY close to your fellow diners. It's a tiny place, in a great part of town. I can overlook the crowding aspect, many could not. I would prefer it not, but this is Manhattan we are talking about. I know more that I want to know about internet dating from this place. We listened to the entire "first date-met on Facebook" interview up close. As well as several others of the same kind, not too far away. In fact, it seems to be the theme at this place. Meet them on Facebook- take them here- makes sense, it's a really safe space to do that, I guess. If it were me, this would be where I would safely meet a stranger. We were in a good humor for this. If you aren't- it would be irritating, to say the least. If you like good, creative food and good wine, and you want to know EVERY SINGLE DETAIL (and I do mean EVERY detail) about the dating habits of young adults in Manhattan- this is your place. The fondue and Tapas and wine are divine. Go early to ignore the dating crowd.

Went here after reading the reviews on the forum fantastic place be wary the portions are huge share and order a little at a time. Staff are great . The restaurant is very small and was very packed we went back again but this lends to the atmosphere we sat at the bar which was great. Food very fresh good wine and great value for money.

OK - no hot tapas. It doesn't matter! There are so many options to convince you that you don't need them. Mix and match any custom platter you want filled with generous portions of meats, cheeses and spreads. Great staff and don't worry if the front of the store is filled and you have to wait. Plenty of options to wait here or pop into another restaurant for a drink until your table is ready.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal here! The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. The cocktails were amazing! We ordered tapas, flatbread and skewers and everything was excellent. The atmosphere was unique and interesting. Highly recommended!

Must try - 1) Red roasted pepper dip, 2) Sojuk (Turkish sausage), 3) Fondue, 4) Wines, 5) Experience.

This eatery offers a wide variety of salads as well as wine and cheese. For dinner, we ordered five different salads. Four were mediocre (at best) and one was average; our selections included spinach with feta, artichoke dip, lentil, piyaz and spicy walnut. Even though everything looked good and fresh, the salads were mostly tasteless and rather pasty. This place could be a real find if those who prepare foods used better quality ingredients that taste as they should and used a bit more imagination in creating the salads. The place seems to cater to a younger (20s) crowd who want to have civil conversations with friends. Service was good and friendly. Prices are reasonable...for what the food could be.

We were here early in the day before a show, so this review is for the brunch/lunch menu. At 11:30ish on a Saturday morning, we had no wait at all. This is a small place in Hell's Kitchen close enough to the theater district to walk to a show afterwards. The waitstaff were attentive and pleasant, water glasses kept full, drinks/food served without delay. Ladies room was clean. Most of our party had items from the tapas menu and overall, we liked everything. The stuffed grape leaves were my favorite, but the olive tapenade and baba ganoush were quite good as well. The asparagus hummus was ok- a bit on the spicy side for me, and next time I'll have the plain hummus. The roasted veg were also good. We all had the 4-item tapas, and portions were quite large. I left a lot on my plate (not those grape leaves though!). I wish there was a choice to have 2 or 3 items. (the only options were 1, 4 or 6 items). Drinks (bloody mary, pomegranate something...bellini?) were ok- nothing special. Prices were very reasonable, and I feel it was excellent value for the money. I would definitely stop in again and try some different items off the tapas menu - although those stuffed grape leaves would be a must!

Kashkaval is an amazing little find - its a little deli with just a few tables in the back, and it serves delicious fondues, salads and tapas, all for around $12 a plate. The wine list is pretty extensive too. A great relaxed atmosphere for either lunch or dinner (although be warned, the wait for a table at dinner can be very long). I love this place, and make sure I pay it a visit every time I'm in NYC.

Kashkaval has always been our "go to restaurant" for lunch or dinner when seeing a show on Broadway. Large tasty portions of Mediterranean Cuisine with a good wine list. Love their samplers and kebobs! Unfortunately, after a long battle with their landlords Kashkaval closed this past weekend. We are hoping you find a new location ASAP and share it with all your loyal patrons!

Everything we order was delicious. The babaganoush, chicken curry, the fondu and wine.

Another great wine bar near Columbus Circle. Fondue was special. A young crowd. Wine selection narrow but interesting and well priced. A fun place to end an evening. Tables very close together. Intimate.

We stumbled upon Kashkaval on our first trip to New York. My memory is that we could just wander in, choose a table and enjoy the whole experience. Well, not these days. The Kashkaval secret is well and truly out there, and locals and out-of-towners compete for space at the peak times. Seriously though, it's worth the battle. I find that mid afternoon is a good time to visit, because there is a better chance of walking through to the back - on a recent Saturday morning, it seemed like there were 237 people between the street front and the back tables. But again, persevere - this is top class New York experience.

the food is great, so many veg options. all the tapas are so yummy - i was full from fondue and tapas and i kept trying to clean off my plate. The staff is extremely friendly.

Looking for something close to where our out of town friends where staying. Interesting looking place. I wasn't sure what style of food they were serving, although I thought it was supposed to be Greek influenced. Nonetheless, four of us when for brunch. The quality of the food seemed ok but it was hard to choose from the brunch menu, becasue there werne't many choices what were appealing. i ended up with the scrambled eggs, another with french toast, another with a casserole, and another with the kabobs. The kabobs looked the best. But all the dishes that had potatoes had their mouths on fire from the spice in the potatoes. My eggs were eh, certainly not like you'd get at a dinner. The french toast was ok but nothing special. Curiously, they didn't give any bread or pita with 3 of the meals, even though I asked. Service was ok., Won'tt be back.

This is a wine bar, deli, restaurant with a mediterranean twist. Great place for a glass or two of wine with primarily selections from the mediterranean region but not exclusively. They have a large selection of wines by the glass and the pours are pretty good. The wait staff is friendly and will often let you try a wine before you order it. If you stay for dinner or lunch the food is also quite good. They have several entrees but they also have two sorts of combo platter. Once with cheeses and meats (salami, prosciutto, jamon, etc.) and the other is different spreads like hummus, babaganush, avocado dips, etc. You can get a choice of three, four or five combinations. The portions are plentiful and well prepared. It is a relatively small place and is always crowded so get there early. It is a good pre-theater spot. I noticed that they have a sister restaurant a couple doors down 9th. Will try it sometime.

First let me say that, I love LOVE LOVE greek food, and don't feel there is any place on the West Coast (at least in SF) that comes close to Kashkaval for quality + price + service. Second, I have to say that do to Kashkaval's proximity to Lincoln Center ( where most trips to NYC have me spending loads of time as I am usually in town to cover Fashion Week) I have been to the restaurant at LEAST 20 times. ( usually between 3-7 times per visit). Food is always delicious, wine list is lengthy and excellent, and the service is friendly. I am so glad a friend rec'd this place to me on my first trip, as it has become a must-go-to locale each trip since. Ps. The baklava will change your life. For reals.

Lovely meal just down the road from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Lovely tapas, great service and loved the feel of the place and chilled music....definitely recommend!
Wine, cheese, and bread! Yummy!!
A great place for a bottle of wine and a sample salad plate. Plenty of food for two. Also has great baklava, which was totally amazing. Highly recommend if you like cheese fondue or hummus.
