Do you want that old style steakhouse experience - all about the food and attentive service? This is the place for you. Convenient Manhattan location, an interior that takes you back in time and celebrates the restaurant’s history, and a very focused menu make for a memorable meal and experience. The lamb chops and T-Bone steak will not disappoint. Cooked as requested. Combined with an affordable wine list, it makes for a relaxed time with friends celebrating any occasion. I live on the west coast and have this on my east coast dining musts. Let me know what you think.

Food was great, service was great. Our server saved us 50 bucks talking us down from a porterhouse for 2 (32 oz) to a t-bone (24 oz), although we fonished every bite of that bad boy. Being my wife's birthday, they surprised us with a slice of NY style cheesecake. Highly recommend!

The meat was not bad but not extraordinary either. I had asked to serve the t-bone for 3 cooked very rare, I got it medium rare. And that is not acceptable who nobody verify that before to serve. Bad experience for the price

The deal at the lunch hour is unbeatable. The steak was spot on! The root veggies were perfection, as was the mash. It is rare that I clear my plate but I did at Keen's and not because I was left hungry but because it was that good! The waitstaff was excellent as well. We had a great experience. We'll be back for a date night. Looking forward to great food yet again.

Booked in advance for a birthday meal and also stopping in New York. Nice setting as a restaurant Busy Maybe I'm not used to paying the prices on steak. You have to order sides separately even a potato side For a sirloin fries dessert and soft drink 100$ Was nice but nothing special

The atmosphere took us back in time, with its classic old American charm and rich history. The dim lighting, wooden paneling, and historic pipe decor created a warm, nostalgic feel that made our evening even more special. We started with the crisp calamari salad, which was light and delicious. The prime porterhouse for two was exceptional—perfectly cooked. The sautéed field mushrooms and boiled baby potatoes were the ideal sides, complementing the steak beautifully. The service was excellent. Highly recommended for anyone seeking both a top-notch meal and a glimpse of NYC’s dining history!

I visited this Steakhouse during my honeymoon in NY. The atmosphere of the place is very suggestive, it feels like entering a place in New York that you see in films from a certain era. The service was excellent, but the highlight is the food. I ordered a New York strip steak, with some vegetables on the side. Quality, seasoning, but above all, absolutely perfect cooking of the meat. The desserts were also very pleasant. Excellent quality/price ratio, considering that it is in the heart of Manhattan.

We had a meal here on the 1st night of our stay (with a vegetarian). The food and service were amazing. The mutton chop was an indulgence as a side to a Porterhouse. Both were cooked to perfection.

Had a chance to visit this landmark restaurant in NYC. We sat at the bar. Seating was tight. No reservations available. Bar was first come, first served. We had the filet skewers with mashed potatoes. It was an appetizer but enough for a meal. Great bartender. Lots of history!! Worth the stop.

We ate at the bar pre-show. Excellent cocktails and wine offerings by the glass. Shared a small serving of the mutton and a delicious wedge salad. This has been on my list for a long time and was glad we stopped in. Both bartenders were very professional, quick and made great drinks.

The restaurant has the lights a bit too soft but in general has a pleasant style, not the classic place for tourists. The offer is varied between meat and fish. The thing we liked so much was the chicken accompanied by the sauce that made the meat tender and succulent. The bacon was also excellent. Slightly high prices

My wife and I visited for lunch as I’d read great reviews about the food and history of keens it didn’t disappoint the food is excellent and the service superb our waitress Brenda looked after us and made our visit feel so special even buying me a birthday cheesecake at the end of our meal it really touched me and we will definitely visit next time we’re in NYC X

The restaurant itself is a lovely venue - old and dark, and felt nicely intimate. We were seated immediately, and I will say the service all round was excellent. We shared crab cakes to start (absolutely delicious) and then ordered the chateaubriand for two, with sides of mushrooms and chunky fries. The portion size of the steak and sides was huge! I will note that my partner and I like a rare steak and ordered rare, which the outside pieces of steak were - however, the middle couple of pieces were closer to blue, which we struggled to eat. I asked for those to be corrected, and the staff were quiet, discreet and quick as they did so. I will note that another table during our meal had the same issue with a slightly underdone steak, so perhaps order one level above what you usually do to ensure perfect cooking? The steak itself was a delicious piece of meat, with no fat or gristle, and the staff rectified the situation immediately, so we still feel this restaurant easily deserves a five-star rating.

Classic older world restaurant in Manhattan, Keens has a rich history dating back to the 1800s that you feel from the moment you enter. Fantastic bar and meal menu. They are famous for their mutton which didn't disappoint. Enjoy!

I could not obtain a reservation online so called the restaurant, and they booked my family on the date and time we needed. That pretty much sums up the service -- awesome at every level. With this many outstanding food reviews, there's nothing more I can add: Yes, it is positively fabulous. Maybe even more so, though? The Rob Roy. Sublime. I'm now on a mission to replicate it at home.

We arrived late for a 9pm booking (stupidly, I thought the booking was for 9.30). The woman on the front desk was quite rude and unhelpful, but other staff very kindly agreed to seat us. We had the most delicious meal! My daughters had a filet mignon each, and my husband and I shared the surf and turf which was unbelievably good. Our waiter helped us choose some delicious red wine, and really looked after us. Make sure you read the back of the menu, as it has a history of the restaurant. It explains the clay pipes on the ceiling!

Had a dinner here with family to celebrate a birthday. The service was outstanding as was the atmosphere. We were in the Bullmoose room and really enjoyed it. We had several appetizers and the porterhouse for 3. It was enough for 4. We will be back

Service was Horrible- Waiter (Sonny D.) Food (veggies) Over Salted w/Rock Salt. Mutton Chop Yuck-T-bone nothing special.

VERY GOOD! Completely different meat than we ate in Brazil! Besides the escorts are very good, the service is all amazing! I recommend booking before

Called in for a lunch reservation and was lucky enough to get a 2 PM same day reservation during Christmastime. Great News- little has changed at this amazing steakhouse since the 1990s!!! Prime Rib King Cut was HUGE and worthy. Rooms have not changed- bar for very casual dining, rest of first floor for business, and 2nd Flood for fine dining. I would rank Keens steaks way above Luger's and they do not automatically cut the steak before serving it. Service at my table and the table next to ours was a bit slow, but understandable given the crowd. The atmosphere is always great and special around Christmas! Great place to bring tourist friends to show them possibly one of a few old- style NYC steak houses left in Manhattan.

We happened by chance in this special local steakhouse very special friendly and very attentive staff we took special sirloin highly recommend it.

We were looking for good meat to eat in the USA, this is the ideal place. We had fun with a Chateaubriand, a pure joy, the cooking asked to be respected given that blue cooking in the USA is almost impossible, there they succeeded. The perfect service and the very atypical place is worth the detour

The cuts are excellent, the cuts leave them with the requested cooking term, I ate a Rack of Lamb, delicious, I have gone about 4 times and have always been satisfied, excellent service.

An old-fashioned steak house, distinguished and decorated with pipes. The food was good, though the menu was limited. The mutton was tasty, a good-sized portion, and not gamey or fatty. The shrimp dish was good and came with an abundance of spinach.

The middling star rating is mostly my fault as I did not see the note that all steaks are dry aged, which I dislike. How many days the meat is aged matters, and longer aging makes it more gamey IMO. They did not deliver the char I asked for either. That said, the service was great (professional waitstaff) and the sides (hash browns and steamed asparagus) were excellent. Others in the party that do enjoy steaks that are aged longer were pleased - but they can submit their own reviews.

Amazing decor. We had the porterhouse for 2. Perfectly cooked. We are huge Jeff Ruby’s steakhouse fans and compare everything to that which is where the 4 stars comes in. Bacon on the wedge salad was amazing. Thick cut. It does get loud when the restaurant fills up

Fabulous spot with very friendly staff who can never do enough to make sure you have a wonderful experience. Food is fabulous and very tasty, service is excellent. Would highly recommend

We were told about this place while we were checking out another venue as the bloke next to us mentioned this great place called Keens where the steaks were great. So we decided to give it a try. We booked in advance as it is advisable to do. When we went in we noticed the place was dimly lit and in fact we had trouble reading the menu until a waiter came over with a small torch. For some reason I ended up sat right next to something like a shower curtain which the staff closed behind me, probably so no one could see me although I was appropriately dressed. Anyway we ordered our food and I had Blue Cheese Puff followed by Arctic char while my wife had Lobster Bisque and a Fillet Mignon, which when presented looked like an upside down bowl. For some reason they gave us three small bread rolls, probably one each and a spare to throw at the waiter to attract their attention. When the starters arrived my Cheese Puff scone with its cheese sauce was barely warm. I said nothing but maybe should have raised an issue there and then with the waiter. My wife said her bisque was lovely. Then the mains came over. My wife said that her steak was lovely and really well cooked. There was a selection of vegetables and a small bowl of herb potatoes that looked delicious. However, when my Char came over, it was cold. After a fork full, I decided to complain. Suddenly, everybody became more attentive. The waiter came over, the maitre di and probably the manager too. I was very polite and explained that the food was cold and I would not eat it. They offered me something else, offered to cook it again and really offered me anything on the house. I opted not to choose anything and sat there while my wife ate her food, which as I said earlier she thought was delicious. I did not want to create a fuss as the place was quite busy. However, we still decided to choose desserts afterwards. She had the lemon and mango sorbet which she said had a real tang to it and was lovely. I had some carrot cake and when it came over it was probably the largest cake I had ever seen. When the bill came over the desserts were free and I had not been charged for my mains. However, the bill for two starters and one mains still came to over $120. We tipped the waiter who was lovely and it was not his fault for the cooking. It felt just like a bad day at the office. My wife's food was lovely and really well cooked and the staff really went of their way to make amends. The tip here for anyone is don't be afraid to complain if you're being genuine. Don't make a real fuss and be polite to the staff and hopefully the response you get will be similar to ours. The staff went out of the way to make things right and they were very kind about it. There was a lovely ambience here and we loved the experience. I forgot to mention by the way that there are clay pipes all over the building with some very famous additions on the walls and ceilings. Sadly we had built up our expectations as the bloke in the street said it was the best place in the city for steaks so our mouths were watering as soon as we walked in the door. In summary, my wife had a lovely meal although mine was disappointing. I feel right to criticise but hopefully I have been fair too. The waiter could not have been more sincere and the rest of the staff were very polite too. Any readers, don't let this put you off. This must have just been a bad day and we don't want everyone to feel they will have the same experience.

Service - awesome. Main server was very knowledgeable and gave appropriate recommendations. Multiple servers of food were all trained. Food - top notch steak. We got the T-Bone Steak (medium). Cooked perfectly with char on the outside. Sides: creamed spinach and french fries on the side. Just add a little bit of salt and pepper to personal likining but food was awesome.

A fantastic old school New York steak house experience. Dining room was traditional and had a very relaxing ambience. I thoroughly enjoyed the sirloin steak. Sides of mash and creamed spinach went well with the steak and were very tasty. The front of house was brilliant and very attentive. This meal really did cement my feeling of being in the Big Apple and topped off a great trip. I would definitely head back there.

Chance does things well. What a discovery that this toasted tbone at will, these rosé lamb ribs, all with a Napa wine. I don't tell you anything about desserts, it's up to you to taste them. Of course, the bill goes with it, but the taste, the quality, the service, the atmosphere, in short, we get a lot for our money.

A NYC landmark restaurant. Great menu, service and food. The bread and crudite were very nice. We had the double baked cheese appetizer and the chateaubriand. Our server was alot of funn.

This restaurant has 130 years history where they kept the pipes for 90,000 customers. Many famous people came here including Albert Einstein, President Theodore Roosevelt. If you're looking to experience a slice of history with your meal, Keens Steakhouse in New York Times Square is a must-visit. The posh and classic interior transports you back in time with beautifully decorated walls filled with pictures and paintings, and a uniquely lined ceiling with smoking pipes that add to its charm. Bread & Lobster Bisque: Starting off with freshly baked hot bread, which was soft, chewy, and an absolute delight-better than Gallagher's, in my opinion. It paired perfectly with the lobster bisque, which was a balanced blend of savoury seafood flavors, creamy richness, and delectable shreds of lobster meat. i Lunch Specials: Their lunch specials offe great value with smaller serving sizes at lower prices. For instance, the taste of Mutton at 10oz for $37 instead of the regular 26oz at $73, and the lobster bisque at an unbeatable $6. The freshly made ginger ale was dry and refreshing, with a distinct gingery note. Main Courses: I opted for the mutton chop at medium doneness. It was slightly more gamey than Gallagher's, but still tender and flavourful. Having tried the regular-sized mutton chop lpreviously, I would recommend sticking to that for a more tender experience. The T-bone steak, at medium rare, had a tenderloin that was juicy and tender, though the strip steak was a bit tough. Dessert: To wrap up the hearty meal, I indulged in the New York cheesecake. Rich, creamy, and satisfying, it was surprisingly airy and fluffy in texture, making it a perfect end to the meal. Service: Service was commendable, with a waiter who patiently assisted in making our decisions. Their professionalism added to the overall positive dining experience. Overall, Keens Steakhouse delivers a delightful dining experience with its historic ambiance, delicious offerings, and attentive service. This is recommended for a taste of New York's culinary heritage!

An establishment of such high standards should be able to employ people with distinguished qualities of providing good services to customers,I suggest the management reconnects with the staff and get their opinion,i am sure they want the best for the restaurant and themselves

We waited years to go and finally went. It is truly A New York landmark food was delicious atmosphere was perfect New York. Reservations need to be made at least two months in advance.

Fantastic meal, had the chateaubriand and it was amazing, melt in the mouth. Steakhouse was super busy but made for a great atmosphere and a lovely evening. Would definitely recommend

I had high hopes for this restaurant. There are so many videos on this place and how wonderful the food is. I would agree that the mutton chops are delicious. The steaks however were not. We ordered two prime T-bone steaks medium rare and they came back medium to fully cooked. The steaks were dry and lacked seasoning. The calamari salad was surprisingly tasty. The drinks were made well.

Looks like an old English pub from the outside and, like a TARDIS, opens up on the inside, housing its own pub and cocktail bar, with the restaurant upstairs. Great and incredibly attentive waiting staff - I don't think we ever go to the bottom of a glass of water before it was topped up. My wife had the lamb chops and I had their famous mutton chop. Both outstanding and cooked to perfection. Also, a must with both is their homemade mint jelly. We were both disappointed to find that we were too full to try their desserts. They also offer a decent selection of wine at reasonable (for NY) prices. Probably the best wine we had all holiday.

Keen's is one of our favorite dining places anywhere in the world. It never disappoints. My wife and I no longer live in NYC, but we always make a reservation in advance to visit. This time we were there for lunch on October 22, split a filet mignon, had some of their homemade ginger ale and Keen's was as great as ever. Their reception desk had our reservation quickly and accurately and a lady led us to a roomy, comfortable table. Our waiter's name was Wes and he was absolutely wonderful, combining a fine knowledge of the menu, a real sense of cheer and enjoyment and old time professionalism that is increasingly rare. On a scale of ten, I would give him 12. My only regret was that our visit ended. Overall a fabulous lunch and a great experience. Thank you, Wes, and thank you Keens for maintaining such high standards.

If you love good meat here you will find the place for you. Soft and cooked to the right point. Follow the advice of the friendly staff and you will not regret it. Elegant and rich in history.

We had a very pleasant evening enjoying top quality American steak. We are steak eaters and looked forward to trying Keens for the first time and we definitely weren’t disappointed! Good selection of steak cuts and cooked exactly to our instructions. Also a very good range of seafood. The sides are very ample.

A steakhouse, where you feel tradition every second. Classic American cuisine without tamtam. Only the waiter’s rustic approach to a high-priced bottle of wine was unusual.

We knew that Keens, being just off Tines Square, was going to be touristy but having read the reviews the food was rated so highly that we decided to give it a shot. The first thing I would say is try to get a table on the ground floor in the room directly ahead of the front door, upstairs there are some rooms that are too quiet, some too bright and some like corridors but the ground floor room was just right, dark, low ceilinged cozy. From start to finish the experience was outstanding. There was an extensive wine list with all prices from low to high. We went for a rich Argentinian Malbec which at $58 did the job and complemented the meat perfectly. The star of the show is undoubtedly the steak, we went for a porterhouse (t-bone) for 2 which was about $70 a head and a filet 8oz at $55. Both were absolutely excellent, as were the sides.

As you’d expect from this NY mainstay the experience was fantastic. The service and decor traditional yet extravagant. The cocktails were delicious and the steaks were big and juicy enough for the hungriest of diner. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

Yes, it’s a classic space with history and everyone should visit at least once. This time was a little disappointing though. Service was average. And the porterhouse for two was not the right temperature, and the sirloin portion was bland and just didn’t measure up to the high quality porterhouses at other premium steakhouses.

Keens steakhouse gets the award for my personal worst steakhouse in the country. The steak came out super fast, I ordered a well done steak. Bam! 10 minutes after I ordered it our porterhouse for 2 arrived cooked through and through, super dry and luke warm. The steak was obviously pre cooked. No flavor, super bland like card board. They are trying to rush you out asap, and with the bum rush service, and crap steak it shows. The table next to us, a guy sat down waiting for the rest of his party after roughly 5 minutes someone came over to him and explained he needed to start ordering or leave. He ordered appetizers, and sure enough, a couple more minutes, his family joined him. They have no patience or interest in providing you with a high-quality meal or experience. It's all about pumping customers in and out fast. I read lots of reviews and watched YouTube videos about Keens, I thought we were really in for a great experience. The joke was on us. This place is a tourist trap. If you truly think this is a good steakhouse, God bless you. If you want a good steak that is way better than Keens, may I suggest Outback, Longhorn, seriously. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. One and done. Insulting. Do they care about this review? Not in the slightest, business is good with an endless supply of tourists to provide a piss poor experience to.

So sad you are told to go to the bar because we did have a reservation and we did wait for 30 mins only my a person who to in and take your seats (especially wait the bar tender waiter knew you were next in line ) and he wanted to start a fight . The manager should have step in instead of doing nothing His girl should drop him because he has no class , and a liar and her would have gone home with a paddy wagon And we walk out and the Magee did not even give a u know up So sad the hotel concierge recommend this place Wolfgang steak house was v

Meat is great but have found they tend to undercook when there is a bone so I find myself ordering medium for medium rare. Service is solid although this time the 3/4 sirloin steak we asked to have packed ended up being a mutton bone when we opened the bag the next day at home. Will double check every time now. Prices have increased considerably since the pandemic.

Visited New York and decided to try Keens. We shared a Mutton chop and had the most unbelievable mashed potato with it and spring veg. Not the cheapest place around but the food and the feel of the place make up for it...

Food was very good. We had steak and the dover sole and both were great. Service was professional with no pressure to leave and the amiance was perfect for our NY date. If i had one negative it was the spacing of the tables - a bit close but it wouldn't stop me going again (and again).

Appetizer: Crab Cakes were Overrpriced and small, BUT excellent with no useless filler or peppers in them. true to Maryland Entree: Filet was cooked and seasoned to perfection. One of the best steaks ive had this year that wasn't A-5 or F-1. I usually have to send steaks back for being overcooked - not here. this was absolutely perfect. Could have done without the peppers on the side, but meh for that steak Dessert: I Had to try the Berry Bibble and Chocolate Mousse. I went back the second night i was in city for both. Hands down, the best chocolate mousse I have found in nearly 5 years. The Bibble is sweet, light, tart, its perfect

My wife and I were going to a concert at MSG and dined at Keens before the David Gilmour show. Keens is a steakhouse dating back to the late 1800's. In addition to its dark wood classic interior, Keens houses the largest collection of clay pipes in the world. They belonged to famous business men, politicians, actors and athletes and are on display. We began with oysters Rockefeller and a wedge salad as appetizers. Both were excellent. For entrees we selected the the New York sirloin and Keens special mutton chop. The sirloin was cooked perfectly and the mutton chop lived up to its legend. It was tender and juicy and came with a delicious mint sauce on the side. We finished with a delicious carrot cake. Keens is a classic that you must try.

My wife, son and I wanted a nice steak dinner on our last day in New York. We stumbled upon this restaurant and though we were underdressed & tired, we were welcomed, Cowboy hats and all, to open arms and fantastic dining experience! I’ve been around the world and have had excellent meals in Europe, South America and the United States, but this one, was one of the BEST! We’re keen on Keen’s!

For our trip to NYC, we chose this steakhouse, just steps from the Empire State Building. It's a very quaint place with hundreds of pipes everywhere and excellent quality meat. The mutton was incredibly tender and delicious. We also found the service to be attentive but not pushy, with friendly waiters who we enjoyed chatting with. The price is medium-high, but it's worth it.

Steak return 3 times kitchen unable to cook steak to order , noisy atmosphere with foul -mouthed clients ignored by staff Wouldn’t recommend under any circumstances

Celebrated my husband’s 60 th birthday Kyle our waiter was beyond helpful If it wasn’t for him we would not have had the experience we did. He helped us order in a way where we were able to taste a lot more options never was rushed food was a 10 plus

I’ve been wanting to eat here since 1975! Have only been in the great bar. Amazing whisky lists! The vide is definitely old school NYC. I doubt much has changed since 1885. Service was excellent and Tristan a great server. The food is amazing. We had the huge prime rib and of course I had to have the mutton chop. Both h cooked perfectly and simply fantastic. The hash browns are great too. A nice surprise for my birthday was the restaurant giving me a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Very tasty and homemade. Not the usual. I can’t wait to go back.

My wife and I were in NYC on a short weekend break and was staying locally and found this place by walking around. The website said fully booked but walked in at lunchtime to book the last table for the evening. Service and food 5 excellent if a little pricy. Both my wife and I had the filet minion, which was cooked to perfection.

Wanted to try an American steak house and we defiantly got it. Amazing steaks .highly recommend a visit.

Wonderful experience all around! The service was perfect. Appetizers, steaks and hash browns could not have been better. Be sure to ask your server about the history of the restaurant. Highly recommend!

Very particular location, attentive and very professional room service. Very high prices considering the average of New York restaurants

Steak was Top Notch. Great food, great atmosphere. The wait staff were excellent, even though they were very busy the evening we were there, they made sure they checked we were ok and did not make us feel rushed in any way. It was out 3rd time in this restaurant and we will be back.

We went back after a year, after discovering it by chance on the previous trip to ny. Excellent Quality and Service Cost, such as trend in the city, increased compared to previous experience

A remarkable Steakhouse with all the nostalgia of old NYC mixed with a contemporary vibe of high quality food and drink. Superb wait staff that keeps the party going. Best mutton ever! Reserve well in advance. New York, New York!

Good ambiance, beautiful place, excellent service and good food. We tried the mutton. It was ok. We had chateaubriand. It was very good.the sauted spinach was good. The best was the lobster bisque. It was a winner. I wish they had ribeye

I was super excited to check out this steakhouse, but it was a huge letdown. The oysters were tiny and had no flavor, and the clams were just as bland. The bread came out cold with plain, boring butter—nothing to get excited about. The creamed spinach, which I usually love at steakhouses, was totally flat and didn’t add anything to the meal. The porterhouse, advertised as 21-day dry-aged, was the biggest disappointment. It didn’t taste like any dry-aged steak I’ve had before—it had this weird, off flavor that wasn’t beefy or strong at all, nothing like what you’d expect from aged steak. I also tried the New York cheesecake, hoping to end on a high note, but it didn’t live up to the name. It lacked that rich, creamy, tangy vibe you want in a true NY cheesecake. To make matters worse, my knife was dirty, which is just unacceptable, and the service was rude and unhelpful. I left really disappointed and confused about how this place gets good reviews. I wouldn’t recommend it and definitely won’t be back.

Old style traditional New York steakhouse. Lots of history, great service and excellent food. Loved the histrionic pipes and newspaper cuttings

Very nice restaurant with wooden walls and ceiling. Great atmosphere, very friendly, efficient, fast staff. Water always present on the table. As soon as they sit they bring warm bread, butter, fresh vegetables with cheese sauce. We had a "mutton chop" (mutton steak about 800 gr.) portion for 2 people 73$, caeser salad 19$, pure (mashed) 15$, glass of prosecco 12$, double espresso 5.5$. The meat was tender and juicy. Maybe a little overpriced but the quality is definitely worth the dinner. Total $135.55.

Recommended by acquaintances and having read the excellent reviews, we showed up around 9pm without a reservation. The maître d' makes us sit at the bar saying it will take about twenty minutes. After ten he comes calling while my brother-in-law and I were sipping an excellent IPA. Classy place with quick and knowledgeable waiters, first they bring you some julienned vegetables with a welcome sauce and the list of aperitifs that we skipped because we had already been to the bar. Their specialty is chateaubriand, which I shared with my wife (also on the menu it is marked for 2 people), divine, very soft, tasty with 3 sauces apart, one better than the other. My brother-in-law's lamb chops were also fantastic. Lime pie deserves a mention. They have a very well-stocked wine list divided by grape variety, we opted for a Cabernet Sauvignon Monticello from Napa Valley, surprising!!!! The price is proportional to the venue, you spend more than double the same type of venue in Italy, but by NYC standards it is money well spent.

Food okay, we took roast bacon as a starter, good, mutton and lamb as main dishes, too heavy. Spanish red wine acceptable. Careful and attentive service and an authentic and well-kept location do not justify the bill Our case. I would go back just to try the prime porterhouse.

Best steak house in nyc Loved the decor Waitstaff was super friendly and fun They made the night enjoyable Ribs mutton & Tbone combo was to die for This place gets a 10 for decor food and staff . The restaurant houses more than 50,000 clay smoking pipes, making it one of the largest collections in the world.

First visited this place 2 decades ago after being given it as a tip on my first visit to New York. Been 4 times now and sent many more visitors there who all have the same phenomenal experience. Had the porterhouse for 3 this time and it was absolutely 10/10 Can’t wait until our next visit.

Skipped breakfast for this steakhouse and shared an excellent medium rare Chateaubriand with my wife with 3 sauces. The Littleneck Clams were approaching the size of oysters and my wife loved her crabcakes. Not only have we ticked this one off our bucket list it has made the list for return visits.

Probably the best steakhouse experience for me, & have been to same top-notch places in the USA. Pricy but very good food. Mutton a must (try it...) Proper Martini's Staff excellent - these guys know their job.

This is a long established steakhouse in Manhattan. The quality of the steaks is superb, we all had fillets , all cooked perfectly rare. This is a higher end restaurant, and the price reflects this .

We travel from Germany to New York almost every year and try different steakhouses. Today at Keen's we were disappointed. The filet mignon and T-bone steak were lukewarm - the T-bone was only grilled on one side and a little tough. We can't understand the positive reviews. For our taste, this was by far the worst steakhouse. The service was very good, as was the atmosphere. Too bad!

Meat at a very high level in the center of Manatthan. Old-fashioned atmosphere and good Service. Bring a sweatshirt: it's freezing! Prices in line.

An institution in New York and always a good dining experience We booked well in advance but they had lost our reservation. However they found us a table quite quickly The menu is straightforward and the steaks really are wonderful The atmosphere is genuine NY Has become much more expensive over the years but still worth it

Beautiful and particular local. Super meat, we got a porterhouse for two. Very kind waiters, we also stopped to have a chat with them. Price in line with Quality of Food and Service

The meats are exceptional. Everything is dry aged on site and is fantastic. The sides were amazing and the storied atmosphere can’t be beat. The servers were very attentive. My only criticism would be the price. Yes, it is a top-tier meal, but with tip, four people will spend to $600 without desert or a lot of drinks. Still, I would eat there again in a heartbeat.

We wanted a family meal out at a classic NYC steakhouse and chose Keen’s based on reviews and online pics. We were extremely happy with our choice! We were dining with a 6 month old grandson, so we opted for an early reservation (5:00 on a Sunday evening). We were happy to see other diners with small children during our visit. The inside ambiance is awesome, lots of wood and history with a homey feel. The waitstaff was wonderful, everything goes like clockwork here. They were also very attentive to our grandson. We asked for some fries for him to munch on while we were settling in and they appeared instantly. The fresh veggies and dip on the table are a nice touch, the dinner rolls are also very good. For dinner: filet mignons all around - all cooked perfectly. The meat quality was definitely up to high quality steakhouse standards. A signature dish here is the mutton chop. After seeing it on several diners plates, we think it’s a must order on a future visit. We had a great experience at Keen’s, it is everything we hoped for in a fine NYC steakhouse!!

Guided by reviews we chose this place for an important family dinner. The place is really very charming and welcoming. The only flaw is the tables a bit too close together that lead to sharing space in an unsolicited way. Quick service but a little rough at least by those who accompanied us in the dinner. In 4 we ordered 2 T-Bones and a portion of French fries, 2 lager beers to accompany and then 4 desserts (NYcheesecake, chocolate cake and a chocolate mousse) All excellent quality ) especially the meat. Bill in my opinion salty (75 € per text) than overall ordered.

I went here in the late afternoon. It wasn’t that crowded. The interior is very cool and has pipes all over. It feels like you went back in time. The prime rib was huge. And really great.

Exceptional good steak. Have eaten here a half dozen times. Everything I’ve had was delicious, it’s a little pricey but worth it. Also the mutton is as good as the steaks.

Keens steakhouse is American institution! The experience of eating a medium rare steak in a room with a giant tiger painting can never be duplicated by anyone. Especially when you’re with your best friends drinking a strong old fashioned. We made our reservation late Saturday evening. Right before we went and were seated as soon as we arrived. The service was second to none. Some of the best service I’ve ever experienced in a fine dining setting. I ordered the medium rare NY strip steak, a side of mash potatoes, oyster’s Rockefeller, and vegetables. The old fashioned was one of the best I’ve ever had. It was strong and flavorful. Creating a memory at Keens with my best friends was a priceless experience that I can ever duplicate.

Have not been in several years. Just as good as I remember. Bar is packed at 5pm on a Weds. Main dining room is nicely subdued. Service is great. Mutton is EPIC. Steak and lobster great. Can't wait to return!

Keen's far exceeded our expectations. We thought it would be a traditional masculine themed steakhouse. In actual fact it is old world cosy with low ceilings, wood panelled walls and comfy banquettes. We started with a Pimm's No. 1 cup & a rose wine. Our dinner consisted of mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach, a 12 oz filet mignon which we shared & a bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir. Our meal was super simple & simply delicious. Potatoes, veg & meat never tasted so good ! We were served throughout our meal by the charming and helpful Iryna. She made us feel very welcomed.

Excellent everything! The restaurant is very well located The food is very rich and the service is excellent. The cut-ups are great. Everything we tried tasted very good.

Amazing service top notch food! Ambiance was great! Whole staff waited on a large group and it was flawless! Looking for a great time look no further

The welcome was unparalleled. The ambiance and history of the Steakhouse, made it timeless, it is a hidden gem in a world gone crazy. We did not want the night to end. The food was very good and most enjoyable - we also loved the crudités to start. The gentlemen there were so kind to my father and also showed us the other rooms and had the time to tell us a little about the history of the place. Long may it last. A beautiful night that we will cherish, thank you ! Highly recommend.

WOW!!! We couldn’t get into a different (prominent steakhouse) restaurant and read reviews saying “Channel your inner Don Draper” at this place. Boy were they right! Amazing atmosphere and even better food. 20 out of 10 stars!!

I would like to acknowledge "Nomi" for seeing that we could get a more acceptable dinner reservation (4PM vs. 2:45) as it was the best option on-line. She worked very diligently to accommodate us. Many Thanks! Our very sweet "Ukrainian" server was extremely knowledgeable to help with our decision making. The meal was even better than anticipated, even my wife mentioned that it was the best "Filet" that she'd ever tasted, my Sirloin was as good as it could ever be. Truly amazing!

We enjoyed a dinner at Keens while in town for a visit with friends and a college graduation. This was a recommendation by a local friend, we ate there before visiting the Empire State building for an evening viewing. We tried to make a reservation, but we’re unable to, we were a walk-in at 7:30 and we had to wait a little bit due to some facility issues. We went next-door, had a drink and were able to be seated right at 8 o’clock. For a premium steakhouse, we thought the menu was plentiful and appropriately priced. Wine selection was great. Our server was very helpful when we asked questions about the menu, the table service staff was quick to take care of us. The blue cheese dressing that comes with the vegetable tray is out of this world. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the prime rib and I enjoyed the Atlantic char.

We visited Keens on last trip to NYC about 9 years ago and loved it so much it was first thing we booked for this visit. In spite of the self-created hype, it didn't disappoint. Service is first class but in a comfortable fashion, the dining room is full of nostalgia and the food is easily the best steak I've had. As before, portions are massive, and whilst this isn't a cheap meal, you don't feel hard done by. Loved it as much this time as all those years ago.

A steakhouse, as we love them in the USA: we enjoyed a delicious Chateaubriand perfectly bleeding as we had asked, tender and with great taste: excellent! A little pinot noir to accompany everything and the evening could only be excellent! Very attentive and perfect service.

We’d read a lot of reviews about Keen’s booking. So we were prepared for the experience. It was an anniversary celebration so we got a nice banquet on the second floor. Nancy, our server was efficient and pleasant. We started with a martini and some champagne. The martini pour left a lot to be desired. Tiny considering the price and the fact that steakhouses are known for their large pours. After a bit, we ordered a split Caesar salad with extra anchovies. It was very good. Then we ordered their filet and the mutton. I had a hard time cutting the mutton despite the fact that it was incredibly tender. It turned out that my knife was dull. New knife, better results. The filet was cooked perfectly. Nancy mentioned that we would get a free dessert so we ordered a slice of carrot cake for the road. It turned out that they charged us for it. Overall it was a very nice experience but not great.

A classic for a reason. Great service and great food at reasonable prices. Caeser salad is first rate. Steak was perfectly cooked. Sides are awesome and they know how to make a very nice Old Fashioned. A number of great steakhouses in NYC but this is certainly top 3

Here you have everything you would ask of a steakhouse: An easy way to book a table online. A nice welcome and perfect waiters. Good and fresh oysters, even if I would have preferred that the salt water had been left. The oysters were obviously rinsed with fresh water. A steak that is perfect in taste, even if the order "medium rare" was not fulfilled and I got "medium" at best. Great house wines (white and red) and the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. Prices are high but absolutely justified.

A very mixed experience. It is a shame how one arrogant member of staff, imbued with their own self importance can make you never want to return to a restaurant. The is a restaurant with a great history but New York is not short of those. The food was good, with the steak and the shrimp being exceptional but our waiter made the whole experience embarrassing. If I want to be insulted or worse still my delight host, I can go to Paris. You know the waiters there will be rude. I don’t expect it and will not accept it in New York. To be fair, the other staff really tried but Keen’s if you are going to employ misogynist French waiters who clearly think their customers are not worthy of their time, I promise never to darken your door again.

Not great So so Waiter all business Bartender too Doesn’t seem like they want to be there Too many other expensive restaurants to go to with personality

A classic that is running strong, as evidenced by the reservations booked out for weeks. Plan ahead to eat at this classic New York venue. Special.

Keen's didn't work for me. I love visiting New York steakhouses, so I looked forward to Keen's when our friends said they made a reservation. I was disappointed with the atmosphere. It seemed drab, but I can understand how some may like its old style. The waiter seemed indifferent, like he was real busy, but perhaps he was, as he certainly wasn't rude. The steak wasn't anything special to my liking, but perhaps it wasn't what I was used to. I just think the problem was me, and not Keen's. I'm interested in giving it another try.

A really old steakhouse in NY. Here there is atmosphere and a lot of history. We were eight for dinner here. We had a fork and a main course. The food came quickly on the table - and we were not disappointed. The fortress was a little big, so you can fine divide these on 2 people. When the main dish came, we chose Biff - there was a huge amount of food. Nice steak. And we had a totally unique waitress with a lot of history about the restaurant. Here I would go again if I were to have meat. The only one that pulls a little down for us, was a lot of noise in 2 etg. If you come here, ask to sit in 1 etg.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Was also fascinated by all the pipes in the ceiling which one of the staff explained. If you go make sure you ask about the pipes.

I searched and searched the internet to find a good steakhouse. I’m really happy I chose Keens. We popped in mid afternoon to ask if we needed to book and they advised us to do so. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, making us look forward to our meal later that evening. When we arrived for our reservation the place was buzzing, a full house. We were shown to our table, which was very cosy with the others either side of us, but we got used to it and settled in. The staff were very attentive, water glass was never empty. We enjoyed a cocktail to go along side the water. We both had the steak fillet. I like mine cooked well done, which sometimes can be frowned upon and I can be made to feel like I’ve made an unreasonable request, but that’s how I like it and they were very accommodating. The steak was beautiful, still full of juice but no blood, perfect! We ordered a couple of sides to share between two. Creamed spinach and fries, more than enough. The place is full of character. Lots to look at and read on your way out. Would definitely return.

A place that stands out, for its decoration, sophistication, quality and sympathy of the staff! The births are truly fantastic! A wonderful quality! Definitely an excellent experience! 👏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏🏻

Visit 11.12. evening .Be sure to reserve. Dark but cozy New York traditional steakhouse decorated with thousands of pipes. Routine professional staff, of course nice and attentive like almost all service personnel in NYC. We had the porterhouse for 2 pers. with green beans and mash (puree). Juice, wine and 2 espresso. Those who order a steak should skip the starters. The steaks are huge. (Enough other guests didn't even eat half the valuable meat because of this.) The quality of our Porterhouse was outstanding, to the point of medium, buttery and the roasted aromas and meat taste at the absolute upper limit. The pü very delicious, the beans crisp and not cooked. Price usual high in NY but justified: 230 $ incl. Tax without tip. An all-round successful evening with ingenious meat enjoyment.

The best in New York! Excellent meat proper baking and fast service. Wine from California and wonderful environment as should be a restaurant of the kind.

We knew the fame of the restaurant and we were already sure to find the highest quality meat and our expectations were confirmed in full! Beautiful place, high level Service, like the price but really justified. You absolutely must try

Keens came highly recommended on behalf of my coworker, and when Valentine’s Day came around I knew it would be the perfect spot. The place is steeped in history, and it was such a treat to dine in this historic iconic steakhouse. To start, my raspberry champagne cocktail was so delicious I ordered two! They gave me a lovely pink rose for the holiday which was a nice touch as well. The complimentary crudité and bread was quite good, and the blue cheese puff was tasty and unique (though not quite what I expected). We ordered a lot for mains – mutton and tomahawk steak, with creamed spinach and hash browns on the side. Both cuts of meat were excellent, and the mutton did not disappoint. The hash browns were even better than expected. We were so full so didn’t have room for dessert, but they gave us some chocolate truffles to end the night on a sweet note. The service here was excellent and they did a great job making the night memorable. Will definitely be back!

From the moment we entered until the last bite this place was simply fantastic The service, the vibe, then the best steak I've ever eaten. The guy serving us couldn't have been any better. The servings are huge and we discussed this with him and he immediately suggested sharing the sirloin, no upselling, no pressure he just wanted us to be happy. The meat was exceptional.....perfectly cooked , delicious sear and the approx 16oz was plenty for two! I'd return in a heartbeat....even though it is 3400 miles away!!

From the moment we walked in, the ambience and warmth took hold. Food wise, I had to try the mutton chop. Contrary to what I read on line about mutton chops, it was not gamier or tougher than lamb chops. Very nice indeed. The crudités , cocktails and mushroom barley soup started the meal and a shared ice cream sundae and cappuccino capped it off. All served beautifully by Madhesh (spelling??). We will definitely return and ask for him to be our waiter. Go and enjoy.

Very typical New York steakhouse with lot of history (the clay pipes hanging on the ceilings belong to famous politicians, actors, etc collected throughout all these years). The decoration is authentic and original. I had one of the best T-Bone steaks in my life. You would never expect entering a piece of American history so close to the Empire State Building and Times Square.

Come back and eat at this amazing place again. Fantastic location, trained and polite staff. We brought our friends. All super satisfied. Great meat and great Italian coffee. What to add bravo, keep it up

Came late free after show so not crowded. Sunny was a great waiter with a cute personality. Food was great-steaks, wedge salad, key lime —nice atmosphere.

Recommend by our hotel The Archer, this was the perfect start to our first ever trip to NYC. The food and the service were both incredible! Put it in your list.

Excellent food and service. One of the best meals I've had. Great atmosphere. Highly highly recommend. Pricy but definitely worth it!

I have never been disappointed at this restaurant. It is always most excellent; food, service, ambiance. Rack of lamb!!!! Yum.

Top , great meat, great service, prices in line with the city, very appealing place , huge bar to have a drink

Great ambiance, very helpful and polite staff, and amazing steak. We went for our honeymoon and they offered us complimentary champaign.

As excellent as I remember it the last time we visited New York ( 2019). If you are a meat lover then this is a must go to restaurant. Old style establishment, excellent service, excellent food ( we had the porthouse for 3) and nice relaxing atmosphere.

We received a very friendly welcome and quickly received our drinks menu and our aperitif. This came very quickly, we asked for 2 starters - Caesar salad -shrimp cocktail. Caeser salad ok, but no chicken in it... Shrimp cocktail was ok The starters arrived after 15 minutes, our glass of champagne and cocktail were half empty, which is a pity you miss the sale of wine. Our starters were cleared away, we didn't get the chance to wave to the waiter for the wine list, the main course was already there. Ok, you're quickly missing out on New York prices €20-25/good glass of wine, or bottle from €75 Meat was tasty, béarnaise too, fries also tasty. Grilled vegetables don't bother. But everything came so quickly that we didn't feel like having dessert anymore. Too bad everything was pushed so much, we were back outside in 1h10min...

Food and service both very disappointing. Family of four for lunch and we started with appetizer steak tartare which came to our table with three pieces of bread. I asked our waiter why and he just shrugged and said he could get me another piece. So why not do the right thing to start? I asked about the steak sandwich and was told it came with lettuce onion and horseradish. It came with one very limp piece of lettuce onion half the sandwich. The onion was a clump cut from the end and raw. What do you do with that? They serve aperol with olives ugh! The steak was seriously nothing special- you can get the same or better just about any steakhouse. Oh yeah the French fries -what a joke! The fries fill your plate but nearly half are small bits like you find at the bottom of the bag from a fast food joint but not even as good. I always give those to my dog! Seriously stay away.

Old america atmosphere, wood paneling and carpeting, and excellent steak. Attention to the customer, meat excellent bill in line with the prices of NY steakhouses.

Excellent restaurant in terms of setting, service and food To do absolutely Everything off perfect

Wonderful food, wonderful experience. The Porterhouse for two was exceptional, delicious. The service was excellent, will definitely return.

Fantastic experience. Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff who are knowledgeable, efficient and helpful. Food was wonderful (we ordered classically; oysters and mutton, which lived up to all expectations)) and there is an extensive wine list (covering all budgets). Booked for a birthday celebration and we were running late, the front of house staff were so helpful and immediately defused what was a very stressful situation for us, and the table waiting staff made us feel at ease very quickly. We are super grateful for their compassion and consideration, especially in what is a busy environment. Have already recommended to friends and will return.

The history inside of the restaurant is amazing along with the ambiance. The food was not impressed with at all. I ordered the NY Strip at the suggestion of the server and it was very tough and had no flavor. The pepper steak sauce was not good at all. The service though was like no other. The staff was very attentive and your glass never went dry. Overall I would not go back espicially for the prices vs food quality.

I had a good experience at Keen’s . The decor is old school steakhouse, which I like. I had the Dover Sole which was very good albeit very expensive. The boiled potatoes that came with it were very bland. The service was prompt but the waiter did not have much of a personality. The wine list by the glass was extremely limited. Glad I went but wouldn’t rush back.

I love Keens for their mutton and steaks but their burger slightky missed the mark for me. I’m spoiled when it comes to burgers because I’ve had so many I might be an expert at this point. First off, the burger wasn’t rare like I requested. The pic marker says M. Rare. The difference between Rare and Medium Rare is noticeable. Second, the price point is high so I expect my burger to be exactly like I ordered. I still love Keenes but I would rather go to Peter Luger for this type of steak house burger.

Great cocktails and extensive wine list. Tasty oysters and an amazing chateaubriand for two. Great service. Cannot wait to return!

Very nice ambience in an old but really good restaurant. Steak prices seem high at first, but compared to the insanely expensive New York level, the value for money is very good. We had a sensational meat quality (especially at Chateaubriand for two) and portions of meat that could hardly be created, so unfortunately we could not try the dessert anymore. Also the service was nice and attentive. If you want to treat yourself to something really nice in New York after all the fast food, Keens Steakhouse in Midtown is a great choice.

A Legendary Experience at Keens Steakhouse Our family had one of the most impressive dining experiences we've ever had at Keens Steakhouse. From the moment we walked in, we were transported back in time. The rich history of the restaurant is absolutely mesmerizing—I found myself lost in the names etched on the ceiling pipes, and when I spotted Teddy Roosevelt’s moose, I nearly forgot we were there to eat! But then came the food... and wow. We ordered two entrées to share, and the famous mutton chop? Without a doubt, the best meat I have ever tasted—flavorful, tender, and unlike anything I’ve had before. Every bite was perfection. A heartfelt thank you to the entire staff, whose warmth and professionalism made the night truly unforgettable. Keens isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience that blends history, hospitality, and flavor into something magical. We’ll be talking about this evening for years to come. – The Zaffino Family

When in New York we always book Keens as it has the best Porterhouse in NYC. Yet again they delivered in all areas, from the food to the service. This a must for anyone who likes steaks or porterhouse.

This place has been on my bucket list for a long time. I came for lunch and had excellence food and service in a historic building and atmosphere. I had the jungle juice cocktail, the buttermilk roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and string beans. Everything was super fresh and flavorful! It wasn’t the cheapest lunch, but it was a great experience to treat myself to on this trip.

Aww Embarrassingly enough I had the chicken instead of the steak, but the chicken was absolutely delicious. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was great.

Suggestive place that catapults you into another era! You are treated like Lords! Impeccable service from the moment we set foot there until we left the place. Spectacular food. A real classy Steakhouse, the best we have tried!

Wow! Just Wow! To start this off, the decor of this place is incredible, we were seated upstairs which is just as nice, our friend in our group fell over as she’s no good in wearing heels which was hilarious, the staff were extremely helpful in helping her back in her clumsy feet! The food waiter explaining the menu was helpful and very friendly! Our steaks were massive and delicious, THE BEST STEAK IVE EVER HAD! The sides were also just as nice! Definitely recommend going to the best steak restaurant in NYC!

We’re visiting NYC to celebrate my wife’s 70th birthday. We saw Keens on Delicious Destinations and looked forward to celebrating. Such a great and unique dining destination. Our waitress Ann, was the best! Professional, great sense of humor and knowledge of the menu. The atmosphere and history are special as is the menu. We had the Mutton Chop….so good!

This famous steak house hosts you in a pleasant large saloon style room. Attentive and competent staff, very good meat and a good choice of wines.

A real chic steak house. All in a beautiful New York atmosphere. No meat spiked with hormones or rotten fries bathed in oil. Here it’s the taste and that’s it! Delicious meat, perfect alcohols. The service was perfect and the servers are of rare elegance! Thank you for this moment

Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the service was incredible. The steaks melted in our mouths. Large portions meant there was leftovers for lunch the next day.

Loved this NY restaurant for the ambience , the music , the food and can’t complain about service. It felt like NY in the old days , transferring you in a different ambience from the craziness and noise of the city. I would go back.

Came here for lunch with my wife and kids. We had the prime rib and the mutton. Both were excellent. They tend to err on the side of making things slightly less done than what you ask for. The diff between med rare and medium doesn’t bother us but just mentioning since I’ve read others mention it. The fries were exceptional. The meat was very good. One thing I’ll say is that we under ordered because so many reviews mentioned how large the portions are. They are suitable for 1 adult but definitely not enough to make 2 people full unless you are ordering a lot of sides and getting apps or dessert. I was expecting $80/kings cut to mean a giant ribeye for 2 but any guy could make short work of it. The restaurant isn’t advertising these as 2 servings but worth dispelling some reviews (maybe servings used to be larger?) The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that while food quality is excellent, the price is quite high for the amount of food you are getting. You are paying extra for atmosphere, and I think they are overcharging a bit on that — I’ll say the same about Lugers. Service was exceptional and no attitude. We had multiple servers who were on top of things. Place and facilities seemed very clean.

★★☆☆☆ Overrated and Overpriced - Good Service Can't Save Mediocre Food Let's cut to the chase - Keens Steakhouse was a major disappointment. For a place that's supposed to be among New York's premier steakhouses, the quality simply isn't there. The steak, which should be their crowning achievement, came out badly undercooked and was surprisingly mediocre in quality. At these prices, there's absolutely no excuse for such basic errors in preparation. While the service staff was genuinely excellent and attentive, good service alone can't make up for underwhelming food. The historic atmosphere might be interesting for tourists, but as a steakhouse, Keens is clearly coasting on its reputation rather than delivering a top-tier dining experience. Save your money and book a table at any of Manhattan's other high-end steakhouses. You'll likely get better quality meat and proper preparation for the same premium prices. The service team deserves better than the food they're having to serve. Pros: - Professional, attentive service - Historic setting Cons: - Poorly executed, undercooked steak - Mediocre meat quality - Significantly overpriced for what you get - Living off an outdated reputation

Best steaks we’ve ever had, would highly recommend a visit. Great atmosphere and attentive and welcoming staff. Would also recommend the New York cheesecake.

Tonight I contacted Keens and set up a reservation for a corporate event. My initial contact was fine and everything was scheduled professionally and efficiently. After ending the call I realized that I had not properly scheduled enough time following our meeting so I called back within 30 seconds of ending the original call. This time a different female employee answered the phone. I explained that I had just called and made a reservation and needed to make an adjustment. This employee got frustrated and told me she’s new to the phones and asked me for my name but I didn’t hear her properly with the background noise. She then snapped at me and was unprofessional and rude and yelled that she needed my name. My response was “excuse me?!?” I immediately provided her with my information and subsequently cancelled the reservation. I also have another event the following month and will be removing this restaurant asa option for dinner. In our great city that has thousands of restaurants why would you ever allow someone like this to cover your phones and represent your brand?!?

Food and staff were really good. Portions are huge, if you order the chateaubriand for 2 people then it is enough for atleast 4 people. If you're from the U.K then consider ordering a normal steak between 2, the portions are seriously huge. Expensive place but quality is good.

Old-time steakhouse, with a nice atmosphere. A classic for eating a super steak. Impeccable service and prices not exaggerated for the type of restaurant.

Old world steakhouse meets 2025. If you have to live a 19-20th century experience of NY, this is it. A place packed with memories and history... but perhaps more importantly, the meat is divine. Well worth the visit.

Sadly, the service has become like TGIF. Steak is still good. We sat and our waiter wanted to know what we wanted to drink, our appetizer and dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine , and said we need a minute. He came back with wine and asked again. We ordered the seafood platter for an appetizer and said we were talking and not ready with dinner yet. He came back a minute later, "are you ready to order" , not yet, another minute later "are you ready to order"? Finally we just ordered so we could finally talk. Steaks came out the second the app was done, and they were grabbing to clear the plates and wine the second they were done. In a matter of 30 minutes we had spent over $300 for a not enjoyable meal.

This place was on our list of must visit locations during our recent trip to NYC having had an amazing experience the year before. We are happy to say we were not disappointed on our return. The atmosphere is just as good as we remember and the service on this occasion was even better (if possible) than our last visit. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We ordered a variety of options and asked for everything to be pre-sliced so we could share. The prime-rib, the T-bone and their famous mutton chop were incredible as were all the sides. Overall, this is an iconic steak house located close to Times Square and one of our favourite restaurants in the world. We can't wait to dine here again next time we visit NYC.

Friendly service. A very good steak. Interesting environment. Not great dessert- stiff carrot cake. Courses served on top of each other- we felt rushed.

We ate the best meat of our lives, cooked according to our requests. The service is perfect, courteous and attentive.

The best meat selection I've lived in my life, 5 star service. A spectacular bar to have some drinks while waiting for a table.

Keens Steakhouse opened in 1885 in New York City's Herald Square, what was then the Theater District. It became a favorite hangout for actors from neighboring Garrick Theater. Today, it is the only survivor of the Harold Square entertainment era and has become best known for its USDA prime steaks, its legendary mutton chop once touted by internationally known actress Lily Langtry and the largest collection of churchwarden pipes in the world. Located at 72 West 36th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues, in Manhattan's Garment District, Keens Steakhouse seats 350 in several dining rooms with Old English decor, Home of the Pipe Club and full-service bar. Open from 11:45 to 10:30 Monday through Friday, 5 to 10:30 on Saturday and 5 to 9:30 on Sunday, it recalls the tradition of checking one's pipe at the inn which had its origins in 17th century England where travelers kept their clay at their favorite inn because the pipe was too fragile to be carried in a purse or saddlebag. Keens houses more then 50,000 clay smoking pipes, including pipes from such well-known patrons as Theodore Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, John Barrymore, Albert Einstein, Buffalo Bill Cody, Will Rogers, Adlai Stevenson, J.P. Morgan and General Douglas MacArthur. Meanwhile, the restaurant's famous mutton chop is cut from the whole loins of a mature adult sheep that was pastured in Colorado. It contains more fat and muscle, resulting in stronger flavor and tougher texture. I couldn't resist ordering a mutton chop with a baked Idaho potato and sauteed mushrooms. My wife chose authentic Dover Sole with mashed Yukon Gold potatoes and Keens creamed spinach. Oh, I almost forgot. We started with iced shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, lobster bisque and iceberg lettuce wedges with blue cheese dressing, chopped tomatoes and bacon. And we finished by sharing a large slice of key lime pie and a Banana Foster with dark rum and vanilla ice cream. Hard to beat an evening like this.

Cool place with all the pipes in the ceiling & history, nice ambience, true New York style. Staff very attentative but lacked a friendly touch

This place is a classic steakhouse . This was my second visit . This time with my adult son on a “ boys trip” to NYC . NO disappointments . We got the Porterhouse for Two and we split potatoes and creamed spinach . Service was excellent . Food was over the top good . HUGE portion. But so good we finished it ( barely ) . Whoever buys their meat deserves a raise . Very , very well prepared and presented . The room is fabulous with magnificent memorabilia on the walls ( clay pipes , posters , photos etc. ) . Pricey but it has to be to be this good .

We took a porterhouse and a ny sirloin: excellent meat quality, perfect cooking (also according to requests), exceptional flavor and softness. The porterhouse, in particular, is definitely in the top ten of the best meats ever eaten. Price above the American average, but for this result, for meat lovers it is an aspect that can also take a back seat. Historic place, very pleasant environment. The only thing we didn't like: the staff. The person welcoming us at the entrance, first of all, was visibly annoyed to see us enter, he gave us the impression almost of not being well liked (it was about 20:50, not even very late). At the table, the staff, always discreetly polite during the course of dinner, takes a little care and brings us the bill even before we finished eating dessert, when the next room was still full of people dining. So we decide - perhaps wrongly - not to leave any tip, annoyed by the attitude of the person at the entrance and the care put into the dinner. The result: the waiter who served us throughout dinner suddenly takes our greetings (literally, it was as if we had become transparent). I understand the good use of tipping, but not with such treatment, totally unjustified. Too bad for this note certainly not in line with such a local.

First experience with Keens was around 1993, has been my favorite NYC restaurant since. Fell in love with the mutton chop as most do. Though I've not eaten meat in 15 years, every trip to NYC still includes a reservation at Keens. The Artic Char, lobster, and whatever magic is done to the ala carte vegetable sides are each alone worth the visit, but there is so much more. The history, atmosphere, display of pipes of great women and men of the last 150 years, impecable service, all of it comes together to make Keens our go to on every trip. One of the great NYC restaurants, part of the complete Manhattan experience.

A friend recommended this place; somehow we hadn't heard of it before. Fabulous historic place right near Macy's. This was before an early show, so we didn't want a big meal. We were lucky to get into the pub - a little lighter menu [heard you need to make a reservation; we were early so lucky to get in.] Very professional service. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Check it out.

Well, we went there for the burgers, presumably best in NYC. It was very strange burger, open, without a sauce, with very raw patty, while I asked for medium. We didnt enjoy it, so regret. Otherwise place was full with huge steaks being ordered, so maybe we were just not lucky

Over the years we have been there several times and have always been enthusiastic about it. The quality of the food is exceptional and the meat superb. As we have already written on another occasion, however, finding bad meat in a steak house in the USA is like finding bad beer in Munich so other things can make the difference. Like for example the venue which, made up of several rooms, is fantastic. The atmosphere, truly unique. The waiters: attentive and professional. Finally, the wine list is able to satisfy every palate and every budget. You can't go wrong with booking. We did it and the waiting time, with the place being very busy, was zero minutes. Extremely recommended.

Second time at Keens. Met relatives enjoyed a fantastic meal with fantastic service. Steaks just melt away, mushrooms to die for and slab bacon so very thick and delicious… can’t wait to return
Great service, interesting decor, below average steak
Decor is memorable and service is great, but steak is poor compared to what we have had in the past. Perhaps it’s a stylistic difference, but we are from London and regularly eat at Hawksmoor, Goodman etc and the steak at Keens lacked the texture, flavour and general quality compared with these. Sides were decent: green beans good, fries good but heavily oversalted.
