Tasty Neapolitan Pies

By Kevin V |

We were able to snag a reservation for dinner on a recent Friday night. Nice ambiance inside, upscale for what is essentially a pizza place. Service was very good throughout our meal. Not a huge menu but ample salads and apps to pick from. We sampled a couple of the salads and the meatball app. Salads were very good, meatballs just ok. We then tried a couple of pizzas: the margherita and the hot salami. Pizzas are very good Neapolitan style pies. I only rated four stars because IMO (even for NYC) the prices are a bit too high. The pizzas are not that big (typical for this style) and are like $30 and up....

Disappointing experience (as a Neapolitan)

By Sery86 |

Besides the extreme kindness of the staff there is nothing positive to review and especially nothing related to the actual PIZZERIA da michele, I'm sorry but it's just a name .. the food is absolutely neither Italian nor Neapolitan, pizza out very high prices

If you want to taste Napoli, this is your spot

The best Italian I have eaten in the USA. We shared a selection of pizza’s and pastas and each one was delicious. Served with experienced staff and good quality wines. Lively atmosphere, but worked well with the overall vibe.

Cute restaurant with good service in the West Village

By Erin H |

During the pandemic, I had received emails from their sister restaurant in Los Angeles advertising pizza. I never had a chance to visit the LA location, but figured I would try the NYC location since I was here in NYC. The service was great and spot on, but the food was a little bland. We started with the meatballs. I never add salt to my food, but I did with this dish. The star of the dish was the bread that was coated in olive oil and grilled and served with the dish. We then split a pizza. Again, it lacked in flavor, but the crust was the star. The service was great, and it is a really cute spot in the village; I just wanted a little more flavor in my food.

Quality ingredients make this brick oven pizzeria stand out!

By Captain Z |

L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele NYC is an upscale, brick-oven pizzeria and restaurant located in the West Village section of New York City. Ishmael, the host that also doubles as a server greeted me and showed me to my seat quickly and with a huge smile. He passed me off to Katya, the bartender, who made me an amazing old fashion. I am very particular about my old fashions and this one was remarkably delicious, slightly smoky, sweet, but not too sweet, and with a depth that made the drink very interesting. I had two! The pizza is handmade and made to order. I love the margherita pizza but wanted extra garlic, oregano, and mozzarella. My special order was no issue. Along with the pizza I ordered meatballs. I wanted the meatballs to come out first as an appetizer. They were like my mom's! The sauce, to me, is just as important as the meatball and both were delicious. The pizza came out piping hot from their imported from Italy brick oven. It is obvious that they use quality ingredients. The crust was thin and lightly dusted with pizza soot, a sign of an authentic Roman pizza. Every bite was delicious. I had to force myself to leave some to takeaway. The pizza really is large enough for two but can be eaten by one very easily, because it is so good. I will be rating this amazing pizzeria and Italian restaurant with 5 stars and putting them down as one of my new favorite places in New York City.

Good, not exceptional

By dpolando |

I heard about the addition of this pizzeria to the NYC pizza scene and was looking forward to a great meal. It's not really a pizzeria - more of a Trattoria as the menu is large with a nice selection of Italian and Italian American first and second plates and salads. I made a reservation on resy and was ten minutes late. Unfazed, the hosts smiled and sat me quickly in a handsome, dimly lit but loud room with the bar (my choice) The server, a lovely women took my order and quickly returned with a glass of Bisci Verdicchio and a carafe of still water.. The water and wine glasses, both sheer rimmed, super thin and light reminded me what a difference good glassware makes against the lips and on the palate: Gorgeous. The 4-5 ounces of Bisci was good. The big, 14 or 15" Margherita pizza arrived within ten minutes perfuming the air with that pungent, unmistakable smell of char. Pre-sliced, I picked up a piece which quickly wilted, dropping some of the bits of sauce and mozzarella. The cornicione, nicely carbonization was crisp, the tomato sauce light, the cheese non-descript but it was the doughy, soggy texture of the rest of the pie which was a major disappointment. As the pie cooled it became soggier and less appealing. I've eaten at the Neopolitan pizzaria of the same name and recall the pizza as quite good. But, I measure all pies of this style with multiple pizze I had in Catania at a proletariat hang out. Super crisp, yeasty and salty with woody carbonized air pockets and a smattering of spicy red sauce, garlic and basil was palate changing. I'll give L'Antica another try but 50 bucks with tip for this meal was hefty.

A corner of Naples in the Village

By James S |

I hesitate to write such a rave review for fear lines will be forming. But this place is amazing. I’ve had dinner and lunch here. And I’ve been to the Naples original. The food is authentic and superb. Maybe that’s to be expected for the Neapolitan specialties. But the French fries may be the best I’ve ever had (available at no extra cost at lunch, which is the biggest bargain in Manhattan.) Service has been excellent.

Very pleasant dinner in good company!!

Excellent Italian restaurant! Discover

By Eric A |

We came back to this restaurant by chance ... and the surprise was very pleasant. Cozy place, no music that prevents you from chatting with your spouse, varied menu not only offering pizza. So we chose tomato dumplings as a starter (a total treat) then legs and lasagna (a delight!). We finished our lunch with a cheesecake (good) and coffee. In short, a very good lunch and certainly the best restaurant of my week in New York. I will go back without any problem.

A New Pizzeria in The West Village. So what! Here’s What!

By Howard Finkelstein |

A new pizzeria in the West Village but before you before say “so what” this is going to be “the neighborhood pizzeria” with great salads, appetizers, and Italian dishes. The bar is a great place to hang out and the dining room ambiance is warm, cozy, quiet enough but still active with perfect lighting. The staff is superb despite today’s expectations. Come for the food, stay for the cocktails and ambience. After your friends and family have “come all the way down to the West Village” they too will be back.

Great pastas and pizzas

By Tunaidi |

Big fan of L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele. Very spacious establishment, impeccable service, and occasional live music. However, the food really stands out. Gnocco fritto appetizer was delicious. The meatballs and calamari were decent as well. The pizza is solid, and the Diavola stood out. I actually enjoyed the pastas more, however. The gnocchi was a good choice. I thought I would like the pappardelle with short rib the most. It was certainly great, but I enjoyed the capunti with broccolini even more.

Italian excellences in America

By Francesco L |

Like being in Naples. Italian Neapolitan style service. Excellent pizza, excellent aperitif, REAL Made in Italy products. Super recommended for anyone who is in New York on a trip. Or for those who live there

Amazing Italian! Must visit!

By Jane Stokes |

This place is incredible. We were served by Max, who was very knowledgable and happy to advise! We had a Caesar salad, the pappardelle genovese and the pizza diavola. We would eat it all again. The meat in the pasta was cooked to perfection and the flavour was amazing! The pizza was so soft and thin and just unbelievable. You know the food is nice when you barely speak the entire meal! I can’t recommend this place enough.

Napoli Pizza in NYC

By Mandy G |

In 2022 we visited the original location in Napoli and I still dream of that pizza. It's thin and watery with a slightly burnt crust that changes how you look at all other pizza. When we found out they opened a location in NYC, we knew we couldn't visit the city without stopping. I'm so glad we did! So, what did we order? We started with the grilled octopus. DELICIOUS! We have a restaurant at home that does a great grilled octopus, and we also tried it at The Hay-Adams in DC which is even, better but this one was my favorite hands down. The grill flavor and accompaniments made it stand out. Definitely try it! Next was the caprese salad. For us, it was nowhere close to what you get in Napoli but it did taste much better than normal. It's just that the freshness of the mozzarella and tomato in Italy can't be beat. And then there's the pizza. Granted, you'll never get the freshness and perfection of the pizza that you get from Napoli but it was very very VERY close. If you want to know what true Napoli pizza tastes like but can't get to Italy, come here! You won't be disappointed. Needless to say, we told our friends and family to make this a stop if they're ever in NYC and we'll be doing the same!

Great pizza, great restaurant.

Really happy with the choice. One of the best choices in New York. Superb pizza with quality ingredients. Restaurant always full, I recommend early booking. The owner is Italian, very nice and helpful person. Average price for a $30-35 pizza.

Good pizza, would return

By Voyager212 |

Went for lunch on a Sunday. Well laid out design, although we were in the front which was light and airy. Excellent pizza, and real competition for our usual favourite, Juliana’s in Brooklyn. Good wine list. Helpful and cheery staff. Would return.

Perfection

An amazing discovery! This restaurant is truly exceptional in every aspect: the stylish ambiance, the lighting, the service (the Italian gentleman from Monza is outstanding), and, of course, the cuisine! The quality of the meat and fish is top-notch, and the pizza, so thin and fragrant, is reminiscent of Italy. It's evident that each ingredient is sourced directly from there. A definite must-visit!

Italian restaurant with no wine

By jgilch3333 |

We have been Da Michele many times and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this time was not good. The food was ok but not as good as usual. The wine provisions were totally unacceptable. After selecting around 8 different bottles we found one they actually had (nothing under $120 left). When we finished and asked for another bottle of the same we were told they had run out of that one too. Called the manager to complain and he basically said “tough!”. Therefore, it is unlikely we will ever go back and never again shall I give a verbal recommendation.

A Dish of Salt and Grease

By StevenHarrison |

Our server was extraordinary. He deserves a better restaurant. Loud. Obnoxious. Pretentious. I've eaten at Da Michele in Napoli. This is not Da Michele and not worthy of the name. I didn't have pizza. They looked soggy. I had the burger. Big mistake. It sounded great! A little mozzarella, a little prosciutto, a big patty. It was all bun. The dish, with fries was so salty and so greasy I came home ill. A friend got a huge chunk of chicken smothered in a bright red sauce that looked very acidic. Why can't NY manage to get a real Italian chef. Especially if they're going to use the name of one of the most, if not THE most iconic Italian pizzerias in the world. The pizza at Da Michele is the one by which all others are measured. But this? It was something of an expensive tragedy. If it weren't for our server the entire meal would have been a real bust. Note to the restaurant - get a good chef, cut down on the salt and grease and treat your staff like they matter. I'll go to Napoli next time for the real thing.

L'Antica

By Johnny Novo |

I went to their flagship location in Naples back in September, so I had to slide when I heard they opened in NYC. Initially I thought we went to the wrong place, as the interior is COMPLETELY different than their location in Naples. Much more upscale, think the lounge Ryan Gosling posts at in Crazy Stupid Love compared to your cousins crib with plastic chairs. If you haven't seen Crazy Stupid Love stop reading this and go watch that rn. Classic. But I digress. I got an aperol spritz (obviously) and a prosciutto pizza. It was honestly JUST as good as the flagship in Naples, which did surprise me as my expectations were through the roof. Also shoutout to our waiter Eric, he was the man. My only complaints were: 1) The Naples location pizzas were 5 euro and they were closer to 20 hots a pop here, but I feel it gotta do what you gotta do. 2) They served the pizza sliced as opposed to the traditional fork and knife. But I'm cultured af so I ate mine with a fork and knife anyways. Take this review with a grain of salt as I went with my buddy who is a former USC basketball star, so I think we got the royal treatment. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Excellent Neapolitan Style Pizza

By Joseph M |

Excellent pizza - Neapolitan Style - Not NYC style. This is part of an international chain, but well exceeded expectations for a chain. Service was average. It is a big place with multiple dinning areas. Reservations are recommended. My rating is based on a truly excellent Diavola Pizza ($30). We also had the Calamari Fritti appetizer ($20) - calamari, shrimp, fennel & zucchini. We will go back.
