Impeccable Service, Creative Food

By D0rindaW |

What a wonderful dining experience. After we were greeted, we met all the staff in the kitchen. It is interesting to see the staff interact during part of the food preparation process. The food pushes the envelop of interesting. We enjoyed the description of each dish as it was served. I thought it was a perfect evening when the chef sat down at our table at the end of the meal to have a conversation to hear our perspective and feedback on the different courses. What a great touch. This is my first experience having a chef "meet & greet" guests.

Incredible Valentine's Day Dinner!

By amrisab |

I knew this place would not disappoint after reading all of the glowing reviews. It was a fantastic choice for this special night and I hope to return for many dinners! The team at L'appart is simply outstanding. They are a seamlessly charming bunch offering warmth and great hospitality. Amidst the napkin folding and chair holding, we felt very relaxed and free to be at ease. Chef Nico came around to each table and even signed our menu as a special memento. One of the servers noticed how much I loved the sage butter and she constantly replenished my supply! I lost track of what we ate so I can't even recall everything. The tasting started with a few small bites, then 4 amuse bouches; beet (so earthy), mackerel (in a beautiful parsley sauce), guinea hen (with shiitake), and chestnut (with truffle, Greek yogurt, and crispy potato strips on top). Everything was great but the chestnut amuse was to die for! I couldn't get enough of this decadence. We were also gifted yummy caviar blinis with creme fraiche. I can't remember the bread that was served but it came with salted house butter and a sage butter that rocked my world. The sage butter paired with honeycomb blew my mind. Our server brought out 3 servings of butter and honeycomb since she noticed my obvious love. Our mains finally hit the table starting with garlic saffron oysters. I enjoyed the brine and saffron combination very much. Next, we had the lobster with avocado and ginseng. This was my girlfriend's favorite main as it reminded us of a dish we had in Amsterdam. Chunks of lobster were placed on top of a tangy avocado mousse and topped with crisp tapioca. The presentation and texture was perfection, and I had never seen tapioca done this way. The sea bass that followed kept up with the surprises. A celery cream and foam greatly complemented the clean, tender bass and star anise. Our last main was quail stuffed with foie gras, accompanied by Asian pear and Swiss chard. The meat was so juicy and tender while the skin managed a beautiful crispness! I enjoyed every bite of this dish. Our first dessert course was overwhelmingly sensory (in a good way). The lychee, rose, and vanilla flavors came together in a captivating way that made my taste buds tingle, bite after bite. Next we had a ganache type chocolate truffle paired with a ginger sorbet and cara cara orange. This was rich and refreshing all at once! We were stuffed silly at this point but out came small offerings of rice pudding with crisp, airy cookies for dipping. Cups of chai came next with petit fours that I somehow managed to devour. I couldn't bear to leave anything on my plate! I am so disappointed in myself for not making L'appart a priority sooner but am glad we enjoyed this special night here. I hope to return many times to try their ever changing menu and experience the coziness of this intimate dining room. While it is not an inexpensive dinner, the ambiance and food are worth every penny. I was even pleased to see that they comped us two glasses of wine and a glass of champagne. I wish nothing but good things for this amazing team and will see them again soon!

Finally! NYC restaurant to rival the classics of 20 years ago!

YUM! Chef Nico... wow! The ricotta appy and the chicken main were SO GOOD! Fantastic experience. Bravo! OH- I will say I agree with others who have commented on the lack of tidying up in the bathrooms--- that was the ONLY issue at this restaurant. This is the issue of the management who needs to step up their game and lead their team better to mee the quality of those running the kitchen.

Sadly not worth the $

My husband treated me to a birthday dinner over Easter weekend and chose this restaurant after reading all the accolades. We chose the 2 courses and yes there were a lot of little "add ons", while we enjoyed the setting and the service,we left the restaurant thinking we should have had an appetizer and entree.I chose the sea bass which was tasteless( thank goodness for the carrot ginger sauce) we both chose the duck smoked in hay, this was the only hit of the meal-quite good- I ordered dessert and mistakenly the waiter brought 2 orders of the three course dessert, we didn't bother correcting this and went along. Big mistake, desserts were all forgotten by the time our Uber ride came along. The oatmeal crumble was below average. As a parting gift I was handed 2 chocolate truffles- birthday gift? Would I return? No. Our $500.00 would have been better spent crossed town @ Gabriel Kreuther, hands down far superior in every level.

Unforgettable gastronomic journey, 5 stars; highly recommended.

Even among the high-end, Michelin star studded restaurants, L'Appart is distinguished by its great and inventive cuisine offering delicious food, full of creative and taste-provoking discoveries, top quality ingredients, amazingly attentive and personal service, great location and very calming and pleasant ambiance. Chef Nicolas (“Nico”) Abello, Paris native, prepares carefully selected menu, as elegant and exquisite as it is delicious and innovative. You are guaranteed to get a personal encounter with the Chef, who, irregardlessly of his restaurant's star recognition, demonstrates a very likable and amiable personality. The manager/maître-d' David pays so much attention to the restaurant's patrons and their needs, the like that we have rarely encountered, if ever. We would recommend that you order 'les trois plats' from the menu; that way you are guaranteed to get a full-scale unforgettable experience of the fantastic food L'Appart deservedly boasts of. Highly recommended. We will definitely visit the restaurant again, very soon.

Outstanding Restaurant

Amazing and Fabulous -- everything you want in a fancy restaurant. It's a tasting menu experience, no ala carte, but there were no disappointments! They even had an optional white truffle course for the season. Service was impeccable too. Nice little establishment, only about 10 tables. In an interesting location, in the middle of Le District, which is an upscale food court. Highly recommend.

Chef Nico made us feel as

Chef Nico made us feel as if we were dining in his Paris home. He greeted us, cooked for us and took the time to chat with us and answer our questions. The food was exceptional and I highly recommend it. It’s quite the gem.

Spectacular birthday dinner

By Puja V |

We had dinner at L’appart for my husband’s birthday. He works in Brookfield place where the restaurant is located so it wasn’t a lot of travel for us but it is worth it to come all the way downtown for this. The restaurant is hidden in Le District but is not too hard to find. Once you pass the wooden doors you feel like you are in a different world. The restaurant is styled after a chef’s apartment and it does feel very cozy and homey (if your home was a fabulously decorated Michelin restaurant). The staff is excellent, attentive and on point with their timing but not overbearing. They had a personalized menu for my husband’s birthday and brought a lovely dessert at the end. We did not do the wine pairing since we had a few cocktails before but had an amazing bottle of Chardonnay, Domaine leflaive Macon Verze. We loved it so much that the staff helped us find it at a local wine shop and we picked up a few bottles of our own. The food was truly amazing and paced perfectly, we did not feel rushed or overly full. Some standouts were the savory panna cotta, tortellini and duck. We added on the salmon special which was delicious. My husband’s favorite thing was the butter and he put it on everything. It was definitely a memorable birthday experience and I know we will be back!

One of my top 5 meals ever!!

By mary151 |

Trying to figure out the right words for this experience, the staff was amazing, the food was so thought out and unique. We chose the three plate tasting and though I felt it was too much food for me, my husband had no problem. Take it easy on the snacks so you can really enjoy your dinner. They had homemade butter with delicious bread, I tasted every dish and one was better than the next. They made special accommodations for my shell fish allergy, and called before the reservation to check. We dealt with every member of the dining room and the service was impeccable. The Chef makes his rounds to all the tables to make sure you are happy. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made us feel special. My husband had the wine paring and loved it, he tried some new wines and learned along the way. We will be back for sure! My favorite dish was the black sea bass, and my husband loved the pasta course. The desserts were spectacular as well, I loved every morsel of food I was served. It is truly an intimate and incredible setting with an divine selection of food.

One of the best dining choices in the city

By Karen C |

A terrific experience - the setting is super relaxing and the service was spot on. We had the tasting menu (the only option) and my husband had the wine pairing which he loved. While I didn’t get wine, the staff went out of their way to give me champagne and dessert wine (I didn’t ask for this) so my husband had drinking company. They also handed us champagne when we arrived and even accommodated us 15 minutes early, when we arrived early thinking our reservation was 1/2 hour earlier than it actually was. Definitely one of the best restaurants on Seated!

Nice place with a great outside view

By Henry4218 |

We visited this restaurant in the midst of a Halloween event occurring in the lobby area of the center. It was a mad house. The restaurant was quiet and peaceful. We were doing a quick lunch before continuing on our tour of the city. The food choices were quite varied. Our Lobster BLT was big enough for 2 so we shared. Prices seemed a little high but maybe not for NYC. Good pleasant service. We sat facing the river and all its activity. The day was cold or we would have chosen to sit outside.

Outstanding food & service

By Chris |

Once you found the restaurant inside the “Le District” center @Liberty Street you are welcomed by the smiling and attentive staff. The tasting menu is set and changes monthly, the wine pairing and caviar are optional. And then your taste buds are in for a rare and outstanding adventure. The combination of food items, consistency, colors and flavors in each dish is made with great creativity. We counted nine dishes and also chose the cheese. We will return!

Great dining experience

Excellent presentation of varied tastes prepared in classic French tradition. Deep catalog of wine complements the meal and the staff is attentive and professional. Highly recommended for a unique dining experience.

NYC's new top best french cuisine

By Trixtravels |

A perfect combination of exquisite dishes beautifully plated , professionally served. The evening is begun with a warm greeting by the lovely maître'd who mentioned there was no rush and handed us a signature drink and introduced us to the chef. Chef Nicco delivered dish after dish of multiple flavors and combinations of tastes to delight us both . He even noticed I did not eat fois gras and quickly brought over a superb dish of fresh green beans that tasted amazing . Turbot from Spain layers of flavors , melts in your mouth, to the tasting of various sweet delectables the evening start to finish was a special treat. The more intimate L'Appart comparing favorably with our favorites Jean George and Daniel will surely be one of NYC's top French dining experiences!

Romantic and elegant

By Alain L |

My wife treat me there for my b-day. At first it seems expensive, up there with the top new york eateries, but at the end they give you much more than the competition. After reviewing their menu online, i was ready to choose one item of each group, appetizers, plats and desserts, but to my delight ALL was part of the tasting menu. We got to taste 6 appetizers, 3 main courses and 2 desserts, plus some chef extras. The wine pairing had no less than 7 wines. Pricey yes, but worth it for a special occasion. Food was excellent and service impeccable, highly recommended.

Very pleasant evening

By CIHTravels |

Tucked away behind a supermarket door (see also Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare), an intimate space (L'Appart means the apartment) with an open kitchen, or at least service kitchen. A fixed menu of several courses of hors d'oeuvres (chef Nicolas "Nico" Abello's snacks), three savoury dishes, a cheese choice (with a supplement) then three dessert dishes. Awarded one Michelin star in the 2017 list and this is where it fairly sits. A pleasant evening with good service and good food.

Amazing Valentine menu

By patrick c |

From the punch served at our arrival until the desert, everything was perfect. The champagne selection was amazing and matched perfectly with the dishes. The oysters and the lobster preparation were very original and savory. The quail was perfectly served, stuffed and cooked. The service was perfect . Watching the french cook and his staff preparing the menu was quite an experience. Un endroit et une cuisine d'exception a ne rater sous aucun pretexte

My new favorite restaurant in NYC

By Rob Z |

We went this Saturday to L'Appart with family and had the best dining experience in NYC. The service was impeccable, the food was delectable, and the atmosphere is amazing. As soon as we walked in we felt as if we were welcomed into the chef's home. Drinks were served immediately and our gastronomic adventure began. I can not find one flaw in our entire dining experience. We all highly recommend this place

Michelin started French tasting room

By Josiah David C |

It’s difficult to sum up my experience at L’Appart. Everything was exquisite and far above my expectations, from the greeting at the front door, which included a handshake and a glass of Doblin dry vermouth on ice, from the wine and drink options (optional pairings is definitely the way to go), to the modern, artsy decor, to the warm, cozy, apartment like feel to the one room restaurant—every part of your dining experience is thoroughly thought out, and hand-tailored to you with unparalleled quality and the finest presentation imaginable. Chef Nico recently earned his first Michelin star for his performance since the restaurants inception only a few short years ago. And based on the breadth of his talent, I imagine his Michelin recognition will not end here. Look up professional critic reviews for further confirmation of the utter, complete excellence present in his craft. Nico brings French fine dining to you, and you don’t want to miss out on experiencing the culinary finesse of this budding chef. Words aren’t enough—you have to experience L’Appart for yourself.

Very good, not great

By mleeunderwood |

I came here for a business dinner. The food was very good, not great. The service was also very good, not great, as i was expecting. I'm not sure if it was intended, but the time between courses seemed like an eternity. All in all, our five course dinner lasted three hours. It seemed dramatically drawn out, but maybe I just didn't appreciate the ambiance. The place itself was a little strange with what appeared to be an old kitchen within the dining room, but maybe an unstaffed bar? It was a bit unusual.

Special and unique

By Tamale8 |

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here on a Friday in January of this year. We were greeted with a drink/punch at the door and our costs were hung on hooks as if we were visiting the home of friends. Then we were introduced to the friendly kitchen staff and seated at a table facing the kitchen on the wall furthest from it. Great view of entire room and kitchen at work. Low lighting, but not too. Music that appealed to us at a moderate level (old school r & b/soul for part of our stay) that permitted conversation and allowed us to hear the described dishes as they were brought to our table. We ordered all three entrees (including the venison) and were so very happy we did--all were exquisite and we added the cheese course. The wine pairing was perfect and pours were generous. The maître d' was very personable and we were introduced to the chef as well--both a pleasure to meet. It's a special-occasion restaurant in a unique atmosphere (like a dinner party at someone's home--not too large a room) and every dish was perfection, even if it was something we wouldn't normally eat. Hate beets, but as part of one of the small courses--scrumptious! Little treats on our way out to end the evening. Friendliness was part of everyone's demeanor. Special, indeed. We hope to be able to go again for another treat.

Gorgeous food, fun staff

By AmyDakar |

Tucked behind a discrete door in the District, this should be a foodie Mecca. The staff is attentive, informative and fun. The room is small and intimate but not stuffy and claustrophobic. You have privacy. The food, as part of a set menu, just keeps coming. Every morsel is delicious. You can taste every flavour. We had the wine pairing which was creative and delicious, perfectly matched. The staff knew their stuff and were proud and happy to talk about it. My husband and I hope to go back soon.

Don’t discredit because of location

By sokriw |

This Michelin restaurant was hard to find, as it is located amongst lots of fast food places, and arriving there by car, the driver didn’t know in which direction to point us, and out of five people working inside the mall (yes, this is also a mall) 0% knew what we were asking about. Of course, we did find it at last, hence the review. The dishes were well composed and good, however missing that little extra in the seasoning. I also found it quite disturbing when our waiter went overboard in trying to sell us the Caviar extras, as I expect this to be handled in a much more subtle way at a restaurant of Michelin class. Unfortunately, they don’t have their own restrooms, and the ones within the market place, with all the other restaurants, was sort of horrible (see pics). This, however is the only downside, in my opinion, and the location does not inflict on my rating.

A fabulous evening to remember

By FOODIE NOMAD™ |

Proud to be the first to review this unique food destination. My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous evening of French gastronomy at L'Appart, an amazing restaurant in The District's French Market, near Battery Park. It was like if Chef Nicolas Abello was welcoming us in his own home and kitchen. Everything from the greeting, to the service, the many courses, desserts and wine selection was pure perfection. This is a must for any foodies looking for an experience to remember. Ours certainly will be to remember...until our next trip down to NYC. This restaurant should earn a Michelin star! Thank you Chef Abello. France and Martin from Montreal.

Fantastic

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special, it was our wedding anniversary and this was recognised on our menu. We choose the three course option with wine pairing and cheese. The service was impeccable and very friendly, the food absolutely superb. We will recommend this restaurant and on our next visit to New York be sure to visit again. We thank all the staff for an exceptional evening and food.
