We booked well in advance to make sure we got a table since we only had 3 nights in NY. And we didn't get disappointed! Quick service and a very tentative waiter. He recommended a fish taco and it was awesome. Crunchy but not overcooked and with a lot of cilantro. I don't have anything negative to say. Instead, I sincerely recommend it!

Very interesting place with cozy atmosphere. The food was good, the corn was amazing. Hard to find gluten-free alternatives, no desserts. Also the desserts didn’t have any description, only Spanish names. Otherwise very nice place.

Super cool vibe that is definitely unsuspecting based on the exterior--you'll know what I mean if you go there. Probably one of my newest favorite places to recommend to people visiting the city. Their food was incredible, incredible tequila selection, great vibes, friendly staff, all of which contribute to a memorable experience. Will surely be going back with friends, loved ones, business dinners--you name it!

Went back for a friend's birthday dinner, thinking the service and food would have improved - it did not. Wasn't surprised in the slightest. Also, again, I don't understand why the staff (and the bouncers) are so entitled and rude. As usual, it's consistently busy, stinky, hot and humid in the downstairs dining area. There were wafts of peat, sweat and overbearing deep-friend tortillas. All class. Did you know there's only one functioning female toilet which doesn't lock? Nice, isn't it? God forbid, if you have to relieve yourself, you'll be waiting for 45 minutes in the toilet line so maybe pack a deck of cards in your purse to help the time go past while you try not to think of running taps and waterfalls. What I did enjoy was the "suck my cocktails" t-shirts which one of the waiters was wearing, quite fitting actually. I really want one now, apparently you can buy them at the upstairs store...

Be sure to book the underground part is a real find. Great food and really efficient staff

A friend told me about this place and it was awesome. We took our son on his 21st birthday and we had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was amazing, the margaritas and food were wonderful. Would love to go back!

Drinks, food and service were all brilliant. Quirky restaurant with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

When you want a place that sets your expectations free - head to La Esquina. Hip vibe with fun people and great music or maybe it was just the company.

Whenever we hit New York, we absolutely have to dine at La Esquina, and make reservations well in advance, im talking like at least a month if possible, its certainely a 'hot spot' and hard to get into, even though it looks so casual. This is our favourite location, I believe there are 3 in total in NYC. Its a cool, underground Mexican restaurant, you have to walk through the kitchen to get to your table, the food is better than anywhere else, theres always a DJ when we are there, and tons of people at the bar. Coolest place.

Friends living in NY recommended us booking an evening at La Esquina. Fantastic mexican food, but the location, drinks and atmosphere makes this a special experience you will remeber. Only negative thing was that I ordered a good tequila, not cheap, and got it served in a shot glass?!?

Surprisingly underground, you walk around the restaurant and suddenly find yourself at “metro level”. Dark but attractively decorated. everything tasty. Excellent service and nice atmosphere. Try the margarita cocktail.

We visited it today after a friend’s recommendation we got! We tried the grilled corn, the tacos and the quesadilla. I would say that all were very delicious and the prices were reasonable for the NYC standards. A secret restaurant within Soho!If I would suggest something for improvement it would be the interior. Although it is the minimal and industrial style, one big sofa was torn. I don’t know if this was the style, but in case they could fix the it.

First, the place is tiny... like you have 3” between your table and the one next to you, so plan to get cozy. We were seated and then staff forgot about us. Someone else was seated next to us and her order was taken, but we had to flag someone down to order. Shrimp tacos were ok, but nothing to rave about. guacamole was solid, as were the blood orange margaritas. No check in to see how things were going or if we needed anything and we had to flag someone down to get our check and pay.

This authentic soho gem stands apart from all other competitors. Wait staff is incredible as is the food and ambiance. Been here many times and it has never lost it's luster. Will keep returning as long as they will have me:)

We spent the day in NYC with our grandson for his birthday needed a place for lunch late in the afternoon. They seated us quickly and were very welcoming. The food was fresh, tasty and served quickly. Being in NYC the place is on the small side so the dinner or lunch rush could probably be pretty crowded. I would definitely go there again.

The atmosphere of the place is great- unique. But the margaritas are very over priced - with zero alcohol in them. Stick with wine and beer. The food was good, though not everything on the menu was available. The service was fast - almost like they wanted to rush your dinner.

This place may be celebrating 14 years, but they do it so well they are fresh and fun and provide exceptional service and quality. The drinks were delicious and once we were seated Tyrone treated us like we were their best customers. He provided great recommendations and was always available without being in our way. Each choice were full of flavor and we shared quite a few menu items. The food is great, but it always tastes better with excellent service and that included Tyrone, our bartenders and the welcome greeting and thanks of Adira as we entered and left. This was worth the wait.

This was my second visit here and I loved it. It was super busy on a Saturday night and the tables are really close together. But the service was incredible and we loved the food. Try the corn, beef taco starter, green beans and plantains. Mmmm.

Down into the dungeon you go! The bizarre trip downstairs thrills some folks as they feel “special” to get on the list, be brought through the dollar taco stand, back through the kitchen and down the stairs to the hidden gem...the dungeon filled with walls of tequila, beautiful people...delectable tapas and your evening is set to be a fun and tasty one! Definitely research which tequila you love most, and chances are, they have it! Super cool ambience...sometimes service is ok, but often a wait...so don’t go if you’re in a rush and truly absorb your stay and plan for extra time. The small plates are delicious, every last one of them...expect to pay a pretty penny as it will take quite a number of tapas to fill you up, unless you plan on filling up on tequila and grabbing a taxi or Uber home....fantastic place to take a group of friends...I’d say 8 max at your table is best. The place is definitely worth the hype, the price, the wait...just don’t expect fast and cheap...expect great, slow and a pretty penny after all is said and done. Fun, yummy, and an experience.

Good speakeasy setup that, without a doubt, is the best thing about the place. Especially if you don't know where you're going, as was my case, you're in for a good surprise. From there, the food is fair and the prices high for what it is. NY style.

A great Mexican restaurant, delicious food (we tried the nachos, tacos and quesadillas), cosy atmosphere and good service!

The good: The concept of this restaurant is cool, looks like just a diner from the outside then you go down a door into a cool restaurant and bar. Cocktails in the bar were good. The bad: We had to wait 20 minutes for our table reservation and only got seated when I got fed up and went to ask the host.. they crammed 5 of us in on a table that should really be for no more than 3 people..my brother is 6 foot 4 and my dad is 6 foot and my mum, partner and I are also quite tall so we were extremely uncomfortable the whole meal. The waiters were very rushed and not at all attentive, we had to grab someone different every time to ask for a drink etc. Had they explained to us how the food would come out we would of ordered differently (mum and brothers food came out then once they finished the rest of our food came out) nobody explained anything about how the food comes out so perhaps that should be something they do at the beginning to avoid disappointment. My partner told the waiter it was my 30th and asked if they could do anything and they bought out a dessert and sparkler, $9 for the dessert and $4 for the sparkler! Ridiculous! Never have I ever experienced having to pay for candles/sparkler in a restaurant for mine or anyone else’s birthday! Pure greed. We couldn’t wait to get out of there. The food was VERY average, the cheese fondue thing was nice, the toast ado things were good but salad was boring and the tacos were actually tasteless. One of our plates was forgotten about so we had to ask and it wS bought out once we were all finished and table was clear! I would not recommend this place and I certainly won’t be going back. Really put a big downer on my birthday, what a shame.

We read about this place and was lucky not to have lined up to get a seat. Restaurant is not hard to find and is has a friendly, party, hangout til late vibe. We ordered some tacos, fish and steak, a quezo dip, a margarita and a michelada. The dip arrived first. Came in a cast iron skillet, and was delicious. Really enjoyed this dish with the drinks. The tacos came next, they were not the best but it was pretty good! The steak was tasty and the fish was juicy and flaky. The drinks were also superb, their michelada is one of the best ive tried. Id go here again and hang out with friends over some tequila and some quezo!

The upper floor with the fast food section is great. Good value tacos and a nice section overlooking the streets of nolita. The lower basement level has a great vibe, nicely decorated and great loud music. The food is not bad, but they charge too much for relatively small portions of tacos or ceviche

We were here as a couple for a nice dinner... unfortunately we picked completely the wrong place for that. The downstairs is really interesting and beautiful when you enter, but unfortunately not enough though has been put into the acoustics and comfort of it. It was impossible to hear the server, let alone your partner from across the table. The tables are so closely packed together, you have to move your table to be even remotely able to shimmy yourself out. The food was average, we've had much better taco's in Europe. What was lacking the most was flavour. Also very expensive for what they were.

Visited for dinner mid-March. We had a booking as it was a Saturday night. Lively though crowded bar. We were seated on time but very narrow spaces at the restaurant. Nice music. Food average. Waiters not particularly helpful. A very polite lady at the wardrobe.

Read about this online and made a reservation for two weeks before arrival. Check in was fairly seamless but we did have a wait of about 20 minutes past reservation time to be seated. Great vibe in a cool atmosphere. The appetizers and entrees were all very good. Expect to be seated very close to your neighbors - it's NYC after all. The one thing we did not expect was the sound. They had a DJ playing great tunes but it was impossible to hear the person directly across form you without yelling. We like clubs and good music but did not expect that atmosphere for dinner. We will go back with different expectations or go before the DJ starts. Don't hesitate to try it but a reservations is suggested.

We turned up here with a reservation looking at a tiny takeaway shop thinking what the hell had we come from midtown for... we got ushered through a door and down into the restaurant downstairs and it was insane from start to finish. You walk through the kitchen to get to the restaurant (cool touch) and enter a dimly lit restaurant- perfect for us after having walked in the heat all day 😉 The blood orange margarita was delicious, and we got the beetroot tostadas and the fish main with soft tacos and salad which were both amazing. The flavours were fresh and tasty with just enough of a hint of spice to not make this white girl sweat. Service was prompt and friendly- we hadn’t even noticed our main had taken a while- but they were super apologetic. Some of the more attentive service we’ve encountered in the states (some of the hospitality has been abysmal). Would recommend to anyone coming to NYC, such a cool experience.

I have eaten here many times and the food is great. I usually eat at the counter. I would like to try the restaurant sometime.

The food was absolutely incredible and the staff was just the friendliest. Service was awesome too. If I lived in New York this would definitely be one of my spots.

This was the best mexican food I've ever had! Didn't care if the service wasn't top notch - but the food was! I could recommend their TINGA DE POLLO Tostadas, and their SEXICO Margarita!

We like the cafe on Kenmare for lunch – they have other locations, spaces, and menus. The cafe's small, pleasant interior was not noisy when we were there on a rainy Friday during the Christmas holidays. Service was fine and the food excellent. Highly recommend the hamburger (with guacamole, jalepenos, and chihuahua cheese) with fries (thin, crisp, just perfect). We want to try their breakfast/brunch menu and will return to try their tacos, tortas, and enchiladas and various huevos. The cafe menu is good value. The brasserie menu is more expensive. They also have a takeout station outside with a great menu, and they deliver too.

Didn't know what to expect but my bestie said would be worth it. We walked up to a Mexican Cantina and I was like "we're eating here"?? Then we walked in and the doorman guided us downstairs past the kitchen into this little hidden gem of a place. It's dark and tight but worth it. The food was great (QUESO FUNDIDO is a must). I'm super glad we managed to get in as it was a great girls night!!

I have dined in many places, in many cities and I have never ever critiqued a restaurant. This was the worst front of house service I have ever encountered. The staff were rude, amateur, disingenuous, unhelpful and focused on anything other than service. There was a mix up in our reservation despite me phoning 24 hours in advance to check it was all confirmed. After an hour of waiting, spending money in the cocktail bar there was no intention of seating us, no apology, rudeness, avoidance and offensive attitude. We left and dined in Zuma, a class act and worlds apart from this style over substance restaurant.

the food was good but part of dining out experience is the service. I will not be returning to a place that have very rude waitress and waiters. there are LOTS of dining places to enjoy in NYC with much better service. don't waste your money here.

I would have given Zero stars if I could. Let me start off by saying my husband and did not have high expectations but we left with more than we bargained for. The server took her good old time and 15 minutes after we sat down finally took our order. She was rude and didn't seem to care about our preferences. The food came out barely room temperature and almost cold. Unacceptable, the health department should inspect this place. Plenty of health code violations. Upon leaving had the most awful stomach pain in my life. Embarrassingly I had a number two accident in my pants. The next day after round after round of nausea, vomiting and abrupt trips to the bathroom I visited the doctor office and was diagnosed with acute E. coli infection. Horrible experience!

Good food and nice atmosphere. We had different kinds of tacos which were nice enough but not exceptional. Great service.

We had an excellent meal, attentive service, and we loved the atmosphere. The biggest hit was the steak entree, which was $47 and was shared by 2 in our party. My late teen sons that are under 21 can be in the restaurant without drinking, and that was a big bonus for us. The only thing I would watch for is the nickeling and diming that was done on our bill. I suggest watching to make sure they don't extra charge you for small items that should be included with your meal. When I pointed them out to the manager though, she made the situation right, so I can highly recommend this restaurant.

Greeted by the doorman who joked about a cancelled reservation, which was funny enough. Then we were sent down into the basement where no one seemed to care about our reservation. Met several other couples who had waited too long without any contact from the staff so after 20 minutes we were almost leaving. After complaining, they made several excuses about not finding us, which was Bs. In the end we were seated to a table, tacos were ok, but not fantastic. Can be a cool place to start off a Saturday night for a party, but not for a more friendly dinner. Hopefully better service on a more quiet occasion

You enter off Kenmare into a small area with nothing more than a taco counter and some window seating - and you wonder “am I in the right place?” Then someone standing by a large metal door will ask you if you have a reservation (not always necessary but advisable). A call by walkie-talkie to confirm there is a table and you are let down some narrow stairs where another staff member will direct you several turns past the kitchen to the large open bar area. You will then either wait there with a drink - it’s a funky cellar area, reminiscent of a speakeasy or old jazz club. Soon, you are led to a table - they are tight. The fare is definitely Mexican, but slightly off-beat (in a good way). No guacamole here. The dishes are almost all better than good. Not “gourmet” (like Cosme) but also not run of the mill. The menu is not deep, but everything on it is well prepared and satisfying. You will be happy with the food if you enjoy a very informal and funky environment. Prices are very reasonable. Sound levels are a bit high, but not deafening - you can talk. Recommended for a fun evening out if you hanker for Mexican, want something informal and better than the run of the mill tacqeria, though not a “culinary experience” - all at a reasonable price.

We love this place! The food is consistently great and the servers are always friendly! We love the grilled corn, as well as the various tacos (I think I have had every variety of meat!). The guacamole and the queso are great appetizers! The side of crispy brussel sprouts is delicious, as are the string beans. We have never had anything here that wasn't really good/delicious!

Do not miss this mexican that is always full! Beef taco and nachos are my favorite here. Have not been to the clubbing section but heard it is cool too.

Great place and ambiance. The girl working coat check yesterday 3/12 was extremely rude and claimed coat check was 2 dollars per coat, even though every time me and my friends have been there it’s been free. When we questioned her she said she would call her manager on us. I have no problem tipping coat check, but she was rude from the very start and then wanted to scam us so therefore no tip. Extremely unprofessional. Even if coat check was $2 it should be informed when checking in, not when picking them out. A shame and will not go back to this bar.

Just the decor and atmosphere is worth a visit. The service is amazing and feels genuine and last but not least, the food is amazing. Even the vegetarian options are great.

We decided to visit La Esquina as it has been highly recommended by friends and online. The bar was cool and the drinks were delicious! We had to wait over an hour though for our table despite having a booking which was slightly disappointing but once seated the service was great and the food even better!

This is a very cool restaurant both inside and outside, capturing the Mexican vibe very well. The food was good but not great. We had fried cheese with chorizo and soft tacos, beef tortilla, a pulled pork sandwich and black beans. Service was quick and the prices reasonable.

From when we arrived at the front door the staff were so friendly and welcoming. I really wish that I had got the servers name as she was fantastic! (Up and coming comedian) The food was amazing and the tacos and tostadas were so fresh tasting.....if that makes sense. We went for the pork belly main which was genuinely the best pork I have tasted. The atmosphere was fantastic and the surroundings were unique. If you NYC book a table!!

Fab food, super service, great atmosphere, have been a few times and will keep coming back.. food is so good..

I loved the menu (authentic Mexican tacos) and the decor is unique and quirky. The service was extremely slow and inattentive on a slow night with only 4 or 5 customers at the time I arrived. I had a cerveza Michelada that was fantastic and the brisket tacos were great (small portions.) The sweet corn (elote) didn't taste too fresh but the cheese and spices were nice. Portions are small but the quality is high so the price seemed fair enough.

If you have not been here, you should go, but make reservations. Looks are deceiving. You will be pleasantly surprised once inside and when they seat you at your table. I will only post the picture from the outside, but I am sure you can find many from the inside. The food was fantastic. Service is a little slow, but what's the rush? Enjoyed my time there.

The title says it all. We came here for drinks and was surprised with the entrance as it is hidden. Do not come without reservations.

On the 5th of June I treated my sister to a dinner at La Esquina for her honeymoon. In order to invite her to the dinner, the restaurant offered me the possibility to make a credit card authorisation so that when they had to pay, the restaurant would charge from my card. They asked me for a maximum amount to be spent on the dinner, however, if the dinner was cheaper, they would only charge for the amount consumed. When my sister finished dinner with her husband, the staff took advantage of their lack of knowledge and told them that they had to consume more since they had more credit and that if they didn't, they had to leave it as a tip because they were going to charge me for it all. As they did not feel like eating or drinking anything else, they ended up leaving a tip of more than 15% of the value of the dinner, on top of the usual tip. Very poor service and very bad intentions on the part of the restaurant who have taken advantage of the situation to make more profit.

Over done concept with mediocre Mexican food. After the secret door (ok in itself) you are let down into a crowded bar area. There you are intentionally left without any contact for your reservation. Any staff you ask is just rude and abrasive. Obiviously the concept is to give you the thrill of becoming uncertain and a small underdog. Suddenly a waitress will appear after a long want well over time for the reservation. A couple just left before us. Then seated with back to bar with such volume that it was impossible to hear anything without screaming with a hand behind your ear. Confirmed but the staff getting the order wrong twice because they didn’t hear. One seat was so in the dark that it was impossible to read menu without turning mobile on. Then got corrected by staff when doing so. And obviously the crowd going here are only white upper middle class, while the Latinos bust tables - wearing “SEXICO” t-shirts. So. Just don’t.

An amazing location, hidden in the basement of a diner! Like a speakeasy, indeed perhaps it once was? The restaurant has an amazing secretive and exciting vibe, which takes you by surprise as you descend the stairs and enter. An amazing bar/ waiting area with a huge selection of tequila and mezcal. And the food matches the vibe. Really outstanding food. We tried to many items to list, but everything was delicious and fresh, and beautifully presented. Add to it friendly attentive service! This is one not to be missed.

Brilliant food and an unusual location which added to the experience. Would recommend to anyone looking for something different.

We got the tip from some friends, and what a tip, we had a lovely service, great food, and a night to remember!

I loved my evening here! We are empty nesters from CA and went out with some friends. This place was perfect to make me feel young again (even if I was mostly just observing LOL). You need a reservation and you need to be prepared to be crowded and talk extremely loudly (oh and pay a crap load for booze). All the margaritas were really good, the bartenders are friendly and fast, and the food was great. We had the barbacoa pork and it was melt in your mouth and tons of it. We also had beef tacos which were also good. Everything should be shared vs individual meals. I think what I really liked about this place was that you would not know it’s here from street level and you have to know about it to find your way in - made this uncool person feel very cool.

This restaurant is popular, the first time we tried it was booked out, so we came the following day. The food is excellent, was proof to us that we don't have any proper Mexican food in London. The bar had a varied choice as well. The atmosphere underground and the decor were gorgeous. A very good final night in New York.

Love the game experience, very busy and loud party atmosphere. The grilled corn is a must order and the tacos are superior

Cool place to visit. Book a table. Talk to the guard in the suit behind the front red door. He leeds you downstairs behind the kitchen. Down there is a whole new world. So cool. The food was delicious. The corn was outstanding!!! We really liked the grilled pork belly as well but you have to order a side to this dish. The only negative thing is that it is really dark so it's hard to read the menu, but still okay. The noise level though was absurd. We had to yell to be able to hear each other. Went there on a Saturday at 8pm, might be better some other time. But go there if you can take a night of noise because the vibe and the food is outstanding! P.s look for the buckets in the ceiling.

Great Mexican food in a really fun atmosphere. We ended up dancing and drinking tequila shots till late! The Margarita's are delicious. The tables are small and it is a bit of a squeeze. They are limited on the number of larger tables for groups. Only thing I don't like is that for a group of 6 they go to fixed menu. I'd go back for the fun and the food.

Great bar and restaurant hidden underground. Atmosphere was amazing and great food. Standouts were brisket tacos and corn. Would definitely recommend. Make sure you book in advance

Amazing tacos!! They were super nice to let us in past closing and served us amazing food and service. The tacos were super decadent and we enjoyed our time here a ton!

A restaurant full of surprises. Great Mexican food for a good price. A truly great experience, definitely worth a visit!

Have been here twice on trips to NY and can't wait to visit again with the kids on our next trip. Great for veggies and meat eaters. The corn is the absokute best.

I have to say it is the worst food that I ever had in my life. Machine frozen drinks were okay, staff were clumsy, noisy and rude. Don bother to leave tips; for what*** you do everything. I am amazed by the decor, it is like going into the Mexico street taquerias. I went to this place because it is consider one of the best Mexican restaurants in nyc. Smh the reviews.

Have been wanting to go here for quite some time. Its a small popular place downstairs "under" a street level taco type shop. Had reservations made through my CC company 21 days in advance as per the restaurant rules. Even at that our reservations for 2 was for 6pm on a Friday. Arrived, checked in and were escorted down through the kitchen and bar. Drinks are made with fresh juices and food was great. Music is fairly loud but it adds to the hip clubby vibe. By the time we left the place was packed. Would have been fun to hang at the bar too! Definitely would go back.

Super fun small restaurant. Great fresh food. The fish tacos had huge grilled chunks of what looked like sea bass. Guac and chips first rate. See and be seen crowd of everyday people who work in SoHo.

Went a couple of weeks ago. Food was amazing especially the corn starter. Great margaritas as well. Would defo go back if I’m in NYC.

We visited this restaurant last year and loved it so much we wanted to take a friend back this time. Unfortunately the restaurant has declined in both food and service and I can no longer recommend it. One dish was inedible and the service - particularly from the host - was actually disgraceful. There are a lot of good Mexican restaurants in NYC. Sadly, this is no longer one of them.

Brilliant speakeasy style Mexican restaurant. Booking is a must! Make sure you try the cocktails and Tacos.

Two of us stopped in at around 2pm on a Friday and, since the downstairs restaurant did not open until 6, opted to eat at the tiny table-service extension around the corner on Lafayette Street. Only a few tables were occupied and within a moment we were seated with (brief) menus in hand. Waitstaff were relaxed and welcoming. The margaritas ordered were laudably strong and nicely balanced; the tortilla soup somewhat thin but tasty; the tacos were lovely and packed to the max, though they would have benefitted from having the tortillas doubled. We'll definitely be back next time we're lunching in the neighborhood.

This place is all about the experience. This is my go to spot to bring clients and or friends visiting from out of town. Total authentic cultural environment when you walk into this place which, and without spoiling anything, is quite deceptive looking from the outside. Amazing music for a fun night out and even better cocktails. Excellent local spot. Fun night out!

Its well located and the food very good. Love the location and walls of the restaurant. Mexican food the best. Next trip to NYC you should give it a try. Yes NYC mexican food. regards, enjoy nyc . best town in the world!

Do not miss this mexican that is always full! Beef taco and nachos are my favorite here. Restaurant section downstairs is even more popular.

I was really surprised that we had to make reservations for a Taco spot but my friend has never steered me wrong with restaurant selections in NY. We made dinner reservations for a Sunday evening. The location is very surprising. You have to go thru a secret door in order to get to the restaurant downstairs. This restaurant had very low lighting and the spacing was small & seating was close to other patrons. It was hard to read the menus but it was still a really nice ambiance. I had the Pollo Rostizado Tacos and the Elotes Callejeros and after eating it I wanted another round. Both items were cooked really well and seasoned to perfection. The drinks were mixed well. Service was good our waiter checked up on us consistently but wasnt overbearing. Definitely would come back again for dinner & drinks.

The worst service I experienced. I went with my cousin and ordered Tacos, and she said didn't want spice, anyway they brought all spice, she refused to take it, and they make us more than 30 minutes to bring back the right order, then we decided to cancel and leave, a big man followed us and charged the Chips with a little Guacamole they serve to everyone, $16,00 more than the.tacos. Very bad service.

NYC’s Mexican food is nothing like LA’s but this place is always lit and the food is good. Don’t really understand their version of “guacamole,” so prepare for just sliced avocado basically. Recommend getting a couple bites to share. Loved the street corn and chicken tacos.

The place itself is fun, busy and buzzy - really cool decor and fun music etc. However, we booked for 9pm and they didn't seat us until 9:50pm depsite repeatedly telling us '5 minutes'. They clearly had overbooked. Admittedly, we were jet lagged after a long flight and usually the atmosphere and drinks would have distracted from the wait (albeit for 30 minutes max, not 50...), but we clearly were unhappy with the situation and realistically a booking means a booking and you should not have to wait for your table. When we were upset and said something the male host told us that 's*** happens' instead of apologising. Fortunately, Syeda made up for it and apologised and offered us a free drink. The food was good and tasty, but not incredible. I wouldn't rush back for it, but I do think the atmosphere makes up for it... if you are not in a rush, that is.

We recently had a dinner for 13 at La Esquina SOHO. I was hesitant to do the required prix fixe but it turned out that was the way to go! The ceviche was the best I have had! The fish and avocado tacos were also excellent ! All food was excellent . Even the cake! Our server probably had a lot to do with making the evening perfect; Michelle was incredible. Very cool vibe and music too.

This is a great little restaurant, hidden inside a simple taqueria which in order to access you have to go through the kitchens and a twisting and turning hallway. Charming in its interior, La Esquina also has some great food. In particular their famous grilled corn and their pork tacos stand out. Service was quite entertaining and a bit of a roller coaster - the bar staff were not at all welcoming or helpful and seemed to be irritated to have to be making drinks, however our server and all the runners were very helpful and kind. Our server has to be the "most chill" person in NYC because he was ridiculously laid back to the point of almost being a caricature of a California-dude, however he was attentive and helpful and his laid back attitude was just a bit quirky. I was a bit disappointed though when I ordered tequila. I had heard that this place is quite famous for its tequila selection, but when I explained that I wanted a good silver tequila that wasn't an ordinary one I was served Milagro and then Casamigos which felt a bit pedestrian and certainly not showcasing a wide selection. Perhaps my order was a bit too vague which is my fault, but it was a bit of a let down as I was looking forward to trying some interesting tequilas

You need to know where to go as this restaurant is a ”Secret” in Town. The fast food taco restaurant at street level opens the door to the underground restaurant behind the scenes. Reservation needed. O yeah downstairs is the best mexican food you can imagine.

I was there with the most amazing person and the love of my life. it was fantastic. The food was pretty good as well.

I absolutely loved our visit to La Esquina! Gina was our wonderful waitress and she made such a fabulous impression! She was friendly, she was informative and she was overall a great person to have a conversation with! I was recommended this restaurant by one of my bosses. I love the concept! When you walk up to the venue it looks like a street stall, however when you give your reservation name to the man at the door you're led down a small staircase and through the kitchen to find this incredibly cool, quirky and hugely atmospheric restaurant! We tried a number of items on the menu - the Queso and the steak tacos were sooo good! My boyfriend ordered something which sadly wasn't to his taste, as he found the sauce a little too sickly, and our fab waitress took it off the bill for us! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting. It was great!! I only wish I wasn't so exhausted from all the site-seeing as I'd have enjoyed a number of cocktails in to the night!

Visited the Midtown Taqueria, amazing tacos. Try the carnitas and fish tacos, you’ll be glad you did. Will definitely be returning.

This place was highly recommended to us and we were not disappointed! We enjoyed great food, drinks and atmosphere here and would recommend to anyone

The restaurant was recommended by a lot of friends. So, when I visited New York, I needed to go there. The expectations where high, but it was all worth. The entrance was off course an experience, but the restaurant it self was also very beautiful and cozy. We had the idea, that our pink haired server was not really in the mood to help us, but her colleagues were absolutely nice. We had a great time. And also the Mexican food was very beautiful.

La Esquina is one of the best speakeasies i have been to in terms of drinks, food and vibe.. the place has something in its own..i have tried two different cocktails and they were really good especially the mucho macho. The food is great as well (the ceviche is to die for). Amazing place.. would definitely come back when visiting New York!!

This place sucks. The waitress refused to sit us and serve us water. They were rude and did not hesitate to discriminate. They sat and served a party that came after us. And continued to do so for an hour. I decided to leave and will never be coming back. The staff and restaurant is horrendous, if you are looking for Mexican food this is not the one.

This is a restaurant which is all over the internet. Everyone seems to talk about it. Mexican food in a semi secret spot and it's hard to get reservations.. Yes, it sounds so exciting but no, put your money somewhere else. Food was tasteless and service was nothing special. And I don't think there was a single New Yorker dining there.... just saying...Drinks were good though and the ambiance is cool but that's not enough. Trust me, make reservations somewhere else. For mexican lunch, stop by Tacombi in the village - really good!

When you get to this place, you will think that you're at the wrong place. You enter through hole in the wall corner taco bar. You give your name to the person sitting at the metal door, and they radio down to confirm your reservation. You are then escorted down stairs through the kitchen into a very trendy bar area to wait. Service was a little slow, but it is a small place. The food is good, but the atmosphere makes it better I believe. You can take kids here but there is a cutoff time every night for kids. Around 9 pm, the music gets louder, and the place turns up a notch. Make sure you get reservations well in advance as they are difficult to get. Be sure and get a sangria and their Queso Fundido (cheese dip that comes in a hot skillet).

I love La Esquina! It's a very cool spot that gives you the impression you're finding a secret location in NYC (although everyone knows about it...hence the difficulty getting a reservation). Good food. I've been there on my own, but brought my family this time. They loved the food. It's not the perfect spot for young children, but they are allowed. Great spot for dinner & drinks with friends. I believe reservations open up 3 weeks in advance and go quickly.

A great Mexican fusion restaurant. The place is fun as a "clandestine" bar. great food and cocktail. Must be visited !!!

Super cozy "cave" hidden under a diner. Really good service, food and atmosphere. Delicious Mexican food that we can highly recommend. Remember to book a table well in advance.

Having tried and failed to get a reservation at La Esquina last time I visited New York, I made sure to book weeks in advance as we were a party of 7. Even from the booking process, the service was exceptional. As we were a larger group, we had to have a set menu, but this also comes with an option to upgrade to bottomless drinks. This proved to be well worth it as the drink choices included all the cocktails, as well as cava, beer, wine, Prosecco and spirits! Let’s just say, we had our monies worth! The food was outstanding and we had a nice break between each course which meant we never felt rushed. I’m still craving the octopus tacos! Our drinks were also constantly replenished and we never had to get our servers attention for anything, they were fantastic. Apart from the delicious food, the real buzz about this place is the restaurant itself. It’s hidden underground and you access it via an unassuming taco bar in Soho. It feels sort of like you’re in a bit of a click to be in there, but the atmosphere is amazing. They had a DJ spinning wicked tunes all night so you could eat, drink and dance all night there. Definitely my highlight of our girls weekend in NYC and a must if you love Mexican food and you’re looking for a lively restaurant.

This is a hideway below a fast taco bar. Dark yet great music and atmosphere ans amazing food. Do not miss the corn!

As per other reviews this is a loud nightclub type restaurant . Get over that and food is great in particular the hot cheese with pumpkin seeds . Very Decieving from outside but this is an underground restaurant . We had good experience good drinks bar .

Dimly lit, basement hideaway ....fantastic...service was fantastic, food was fantastic couldn’t have asked for anything more....we ate at 6pm and it was full..so book ahead.as everyone else stated....it looks like a Street cafe from outside then they open a grey door...you are taken downstairs and then it’s like an Aladdin’s cave. Great place.

Thankfully we got a tip to go to La Equina and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was amazing- the music, the artwork, the candles, the bar, the tile work, etc. And the drinks and the food was delicious. Very friendly service and a great vibe from all the staff- even the serious doorman!

Being super picky with Mexican food I could not have been more delighted- this place is great both for date night and a night out, so so amazing!

I’ve been to This spot many times over the years and just recently went for dinner and drinks with a group of girls. We got sat fairly quickly rafter arriving which is pretty impressive since we had a large group on a Friday night. The service was friendly and really fast. Almost too fast. The food was just ok.... has been better in the past. We didn’t care though because the drinks were good and the music and bar scene was why we came in the first place. I would say go there for fun and drinks but don’t expect an impressive meal

It's difficult to book at La Esquina and there is no happy hour here. What appears to be a cheep tacos place is in fact home to an upscale Mexican restaurant and bar! Dim-lit industrial decor mixed with vintage touches, leather couches, a real descent into Manhattan life is hidden downstairs from the cheap eatery upstairs. The young and trendy filled the place on the Friday night and the food was spicy, expensive, and good. Many a single lady and many a group celebrating a birthday or just life. Worth a visit if any of the above sound appealing. Tried the melted cheese, the fish tacos, the enchilladas and chocolate lava cake.

I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. The doorman was very rude with my girlfriend and me. I don’t know his name but he wore a red cap and is African American. He did not want to show us around the restaurant to take some photos for our Instagram account, although he kept saying La Esquina was the most popular restaurant in the city. He was so full of himself! We did not tip him and we will never come back to this restaurant! So disappointing!

I was really excited to go here as reservations book up quick and well in advance. The place was really cool with the hidden "secret" entrance and service was friendly but the food sadly was nothing special at all.

We arrived at 11'55 for lunch. The door was open and staff was there. But nevertheless the waiter made us wait on the rather chilly and windy street because it opened at noon. What a warm welcome! 5 minutes later the waiter made us sit on a table next to the door. It was as cold and windy as on the street because the backdoor too was open and there was a terrible draught of air. When we asked if it was possible to close the door he told us that he wanted the door open. We told him that in this case we would have to leave, he didn't care and answered "ok, leave!". What we did immediately because rarely we have encountered such an attitude.

I love the vibes in this place. The servers are really nice, and the food is fantastic. I'm a big fan of mexican, and this definitely stands up to a lot of the other mex places in the area. The only gripe I have about La Esquina is the parking. If I didn't routinely use Instapark in the city I'd be lost lol.

If you want excellent tacos and more sophisticated mexican food,in a cool place that resembles a hidden cellar in an old building, this is it. Excellent tequila based drinks as well. Reservations a must.

La Esquina was always one of my regular favorite places to go to. This time I was not impressed and a little disappointed with the service and the food. The cheese fondu was a little burnt and the corn cob was not done properly. The tacos had no flavor. I always had to ask someone to for a water refill. Not sure if this was one off but did not seem the La Esquina I used to know. Birthday was was great! My friend love the place and she will come back.

We came here by recommendation of our friends. It's a pretty cool place, you walk in from the street to a tiny place with a bouncer, there's a door behind him that has stairs leading to the lower floor. When you go down you end up walking through the kitchen to get to the bar area. The bar area is super cool and ended up filling pretty fast. The drinks are great and the music and vibes are great. We were having dinner so we walked over to the seated dinner area. To be honest, i was expecting much better tasting food. Ive had better mexican elsewhere. But there were a couple of great dishes which i cant remember (a salad and some tuna ceviche thing). The service was great, and our waitress was lovely. But for sure the bar area is more happening, so i recommend coming here for a drink rather than dinner.

Mexican fusion restaurant. great food. local clandestine fashion. Highly recommended Very very TOP!!

I wondered at first what we’d gotten into, beginning the night absolutely jammed into a taco trailer....then you’re lead downstairs for an unforgettable dining experience. Queso fundido and blood orange margarita were both amazing. Definitely recommend.

What a treat this place is! Seriously well hidden down stairs along corridors and through the kitchen (we had doubts at this point), but well worth the journey. Wonderful friendly vibrant atmosphere, great bar, amazing food, lovely staff. This place has it all! High point of our trip to NYC.

Despite knowing it from other trips to NYC, I continue to be surprised by this restaurant hidden under what looks like a street taco stand. The food is a 10 and the service is great.

Booked a table for 4 people. We were crammed onto the smallest table and were told that’s just how it is when we asked for some more space. You are basically sitting with the table next to you. The restaurant smelled a bit bad, like dampness and there were buckets hanging every few inches all along the ceiling. It did not feel sanitary, so unfortunately we chose to leave.

The restaurant is great, really fun atmosphere. The food is really good, but I wish they had more options. The music was fun and my friends and I really enjoyed the place.

Tonight we had the opportunity to try La Esquina and were thoroughly impressed! We started with an appetizer Huarache Dona Emi, which was amazing! Next we had the 16oz Bistec for dinner. The prime rib was perfectly cooked, and on top of that we devoured the Mexican Slaw. The hint about the slaw is it was made with Habanero. If you have the opportunity to enjoy a drink and the food here, don’t pass it up.

Good restaurant with Mexican cuisine. The quesadillas and appetizers are excellent. The cocktails very well prepared. Charming place and very friendly staff

I've heard a lot about this restaurant when it first opened years ago but haven't had the opportunity to experience it until now. I took my GF to La Esquina for her birthday since she loves Mexican cuisine. The service was excellent, the food was good but not spectacular. The seating situation was tight but I would recommend La Esquina for those looking to enjoy a NY restaurant experience.

Went for lunch with my daughter, passing by we just decided to sit here to eat. We had the carnitas and the shrimp tacos. I preferred the taste of the shrimp tacos. Also had the hibiscus aqua fresca...all in all, food is not bad but it’s nothing to write home about. If I pass by and there’s another option, I would try another option, is just not a place that I liked so much i want to go back to. The waiters and waitresses are super nice and attentive, so their customer service is on point!

This place comes with a great rep, but didn’t live up to expectations. It’s certainly an interesting venue (unless you suffer from claustrophobia), with a casual , scruffy cafe exterior, then being admitted, speakeasy style, down the rather scary stairs to the basement. Cool n groovy is one thing, but when its so dark you can’t actually read the menu? None of us had really standout dishes. My plantain were good, the chicken tortilla’s mole was not nice at all. My crispy pork tacos were okay ish but not enough to make me finish them. None of the flavours really punched home.

It’s probably a bit misleading with the upstairs being a separate restaurant from downstairs but if you look at the pics on the website it’s not too difficult to fathom out. The food was good especially the corn and all tasted really fresh. Was a bit surprised they don’t do guacamole as they want you to try different things but actually glad. Def worth a trip.

There's a simple taqueria upstairs, but downstairs in some back rooms, there's the speakeasy version of (pretty much) the same food. The food is good, the drinks are, good, but you're here because it's kinda cool, right? It *is* a cool space, and the crowd is hip and noisy. It's a fun spot, but the noise level would make it an occasional spot for me.

The food was decent but not amazing, the tacos were small, the service was quite slow (but they were busy). Not in a rush to go again.

We got to La Esquina on a friends suggestion and wow, so glad he made it!! We got there for a late dinner reservation on a Thursday night, where we couldn’t figure out why the door was locked. Thankfully we looked a little further and discovered the security/bouncer fellow. And from there we never looked back. He led us downstairs where there was lots of fun being had. A quaint place with lots of atmosphere. My friend and I had a couple margaritas, beef and prawn tacos. It was delicious. The tunes were humming and a wide selection of patrons were all having the time of their lives. I would go back there in a heartbeat. I will admit our server was a little forgetful, but his colleagues were on top of things.

Swanky Mexican place with a “secret” entrance to the downstairs restaurant. The atmosphere is cool but it is very loud and difficult to hear conversation. You are also packed in very tightly which isn’t comfortable. Food is great but pricey. Service is below average but this isn’t uncommon in NYC.

This place sucks now, it's gone wayyyy downhill. My expensive leather jacket was stolen. I emailed twice over 10 days, no reply. It's just a money grab for tourist now.

If you take a look at all my reviews I rarely left negative feedback but, in this case, I can’t do otherwise. The restaurant looks good: as soon as you enter you feel like you're in one of those basement bars typical of Mexico City, Latin music is high and at the tables eating and dancing multiethnic people, cocktails that fly and a lot of laughs. Everything may seem perfect and characteristic but the cuisine was a big NO! On the menu there are several tex-mex dishes but once ordered you will seem to eat almost always the same thing with the same sauces, always served as tapas on the same nachos. There is no difference between a beef burrito or a chicken enchilada and this is annoying! Even the cocktails are not good and are served with too many ice cubes that water the tequila. My margarita was really bad! I'm sorry but for me it's a big no and I do not recommend having dinner here. The price is medium but high for the type of kitchen and the line to enter (even with the reservation) is long because the place is very small. Just one YES: the kindness of the waiters. Marzio from Rome.

From the street, impossible to know... Inside, a pretty crowd. Excellent tacos. Music could be a little less loud, but I guess people like it so...

We had heard that this was one of the best places for Mexican food and hard to obtain a reservation. My daughter and I made reservations on a Sunday evening several weeks in advance. It looks a bit rundown outside but once in, we were led downstairs where the bar and restaurant were located. We were squeezed in between a table of six and another table for two. There were literally three inches between our tables. When the couple next to us left, we had to move our food and beverages to the middle of the table so the rather small in stature person wouldn't knock anything over. Whenever the waiter served the table next to us, I had to lean over to the other side so he could put the dishes on the table. I could easily hear the conversations next to me but was difficult to converse with my daughter. That's one of the highlights is to have a conversation with the person who you are with. The margaritas were good. The tortilla soup was served in a cast iron crock and it was steaming hot and delicious. The cheese fundido was a good choice as well. We split the brisket and prime rib tacos and felt they were average.

We ate here with a friend and my 7 year old after the guys at Flour Shop recommended it for lunch. Great ambiance, amazing (and authentic) food, and quality service. Very accommodating when my kiddo wanted a plain-jane quesadilla and sour cream. Definitely a new favorite in the city and already recommended to friends. Eat here!

On a Soho corner sits a crowded taco shop called La Esquina, a multifaceted Mexican spot that is housed in a restored 1950's diner. Tacos with filings like sliced rib-eye, grilled mahi mahi, seared cauliflower amongst others are slung all day from the compact corner taqueria. In the downstairs brasserie there is an expanded menu....... ....Queso fundido, various ceviches and more. I zeroed in on the Sopa De Tortilla with Avocado & Chili and Steak Pepito Torta with black Beans, Jalapenos & Chimichurri. This is an underground hot spot, a bit grungy, dark, crowded and feels like you might be eating in a basement..........but people love it. It's one of NYC best spots for food and drink. A seriously cool place to eat.

The ceviche. Is. Amazing. Had an excellent dinner here as part of a bachelorette party. Imagine taco bar meets speakeasy. Very trendy. Great food. Ask for a sparkler to come out with your round of shots.

The food and the drinks in the Brasserie is so good! But don’t expect to be able to enjoy it. Hectic, to popular, noicy and a staff that rush you through the whole experience. This was our 3rd visit, and probably our last. Sorry, it’s lost it’s charm. This is the reason I only give 3 points. We were there celebrating a birthday, and I had given notice of that as I booked the table. As 3 of the tables around us got birthday-wishes, we didn’t.

This is a great experience don’t be fooled by the outside the adventure is downstairs in the cellar. Excellent food and even better cocktails. Take the Diablo

We just loved it here!! Great fun vibes, friendly staff and delicious food!! Would definitely recommend :)

Only went to the upstairs (ground level). Didn't know there was a downstairs 'secret' restaurant until i saw the bouncer making decisions on who got to go through the nondescript "employees only' door. Anyway, the Plato Julia is a plate of beans, rice, avocado and pico. Add a protein and you'r out the door for ~$15. Though i recommend you splurge and add an order of their red salsa and a side of homemade tortillas.

This Mexican restaurant was recommended by our old sitter who lives in NYC. WOW. What a cool spot. We thought we were eating in the cafe that you can see from the street corner. But after we checked in we were escorted the the dark and funky basement restaurant all lit up with lights. It was great Mexican food and a super fun setting. You definitely need a rezzy here.

This place looks fantastic, fresh ingredients and a modern spin on traditional dishes. The staff is very friendly and these guys know their tequila! It’s on the loud side (at least for late dinner) as music is « dance club » loud, making it a bit difficult to have a conversation but the ambiance is very cool if you are in a mood to party! Strangers engage easily and have been friendly every time I went there. Reserve in advance, it’s busy even late at night on Sunday. Also: Great place for parties!

This place was great. Tasty traditional food with good service and cheap by New York standards. Would highly recommend to everyone.

My boyfriend and I showed up yesterday at 1.20am, we didn’t know what time they close. Despite the other times I’ve been there, I’ve been treated very badly this time by the bouncer (I don’t know his name) to whom I KINDLY asked the reason why it was closed. If You just say that you’re closing down in half an hour and so you don’t allow anybody in anymore, I’m fine, I understand; however I don’t deserve to be answered badly if I just ask for some clarifications in a polite way. Bouncers like this are for sure not a good window for the club.

A cloak and dagger beginning to an unforgettable experience. Terrific food and mouth watering cocktails with great service

This little gem sits hidden behind an unassuming hole in the wall in bustling SOHO Go through the hole and downstairs opens into a quaint and intimate restaurant with some amazing food to test your taste buds Traditionally Mexican cuisine leaves a taste on your tongue Would totally recommend. Well priced and servings are well sized

This restaurant is great. The food is amazing, tasty with great mexican flavor. The ambient is relaxed but great at the same time. With this restaurant it isn’t just food, it’s the whole experience, from the door to the food. I’m not saying more, I don’t want to ruin the experience for you...

I was recommended this place by my wife and must say I was not disappointed. The service was very original and good. The place is very latino and special. I ordered 3 taco’s and guacamole. The best taco was the shrimp. I could have had three. Will come again and can recommend this place.

Whilst it may not look like anything special from outside, downstairs is a totally different experience. Our waiter advised on our food choices and each dish was incredible. Must-try dishes are the corn, the melted cheese with tortillas and the fish tacos. Good cocktails, and great music.

After a morning walk, we came across this restaurant. Seeing it from the outside you start to think 'where have I ended up'..... then when you enter there is a nice atmosphere and the food is really good in this restaurant. Very friendly staff and they also have live music in the evening. I advise

I searched about the best Mexican restaurant in NYC and it was this restaurant, the atmosphere was amazing I really liked the crowd and music. Unfortunately the food was too salty nothing special . It came on time the waitress was friendly but couldn’t eat the food because the amount of salt . The price was ok its not expensive

We we’re SO disappointed about literally EVERYTHING with this restaurant! 1. The food did not taste anything and the beef was chewy, my friend couldn’t even finish her tacos. 2. The service was really bad. We had to wait for our table, wait 30 min to even order drinks and when we finally got to order food, the waiter did not copy our order which led to us receiving something completely different than we thought we ordered. 3. The staff had a really bad attitude! They were RUDE, talked about us and laughed. I would NOT recommend to visit!

This restaurant is something between a Rainforest Cafe and a Chiquito’s but with very good food with, ummm, I don’t know, a dungeon theme I guess. You get to meet a guy at what look like a employés only entrance and take down somewhere, through a kitchen, into If you’ve got young teenagers they’d love it here. Not so much the 40 something year olds who think they were going to have a nice dinner. I should have read more reviews before we went, I don’t know what came over me! Food is nice but expensive for the overall experience. I would not recommend for anyone over 22. I chose that number arbitrarily but fitting with our experience. NYC has so much to offer and this is just one of those that would not be on our ‘let’s do that again!’ list. Do your homework and don’t waste your precious evening and money if this sort of restaurant isn’t for you. Best thing about this place: great cocktails!!! A couple of spicy Moscow mules were enough to keep us happy despite our initial disappointment!

So spotted this seemingly ancient-looking authentic. Mexican diner in the corner in the evening storm in our last night in NY(from Wales) and thought wld be grt for a quick bite. Lovely tacos and quesadillas and reasonablle. V genuine. Took a bit of effort to get the waitress of their adjoining restaurant to allow us to use loo! Noticed a number of young ish trendy (v similar socio demographic) people coming in and being allowed thru a net door by the lovely guy sitting at the door. Got chatting and he explained hat downstairs was a v exclusive brassiere, booked months in advance. Vv kindly said we cld have a drink down there so off we went down stairs, theu the kitchen (all a bit of a set up) into a nicely shabby chic bar and restaurant. Music bit loud tbh and was like my umba class. Asked for a couple of beers, 8 dollars each for a small can. Had to ask for a glass! Think barman still expected a tip!! A fun extra experience but seriously, I would just go and eat in the diner, far more fun!! Shame not actually owned by a real Mexican family but by a former wasp axhitect, hey ho!

I am Mexican, and to find such a place in NY was amazing for me. A cool and funky experience of Mexican culture and cuisine. Very nice hip place, great food, great atmosphere, decoration, service, drinks and food. And at fair prices. I highly recommend it. Remember to make a reservations with some days in advance.

Short Rib (bistro con quest) , Pescado & Carnitas tacos were delicious. Interesting location. Also got a small Guacamole. $22 was inexpensive and reasonable.

This restaurant came recommended to me, and it did not disappoint! When pulling up, it literally looks like you are eating at a very small diner, however, once the hostess pulled our reservation, we were lead down a couple flight of stairs, into the kitchen and on through to the restaurant. It's a super awesome dark atmosphere. Great vibe and music. Perfect spot for dinner with friends, a date night or just grabbing drinks at the bar/lounge area. Can't wait to go back again!!

16 Jun La Esquina Soho dinner. A funky, dark, cool restaurant with a quirky entrance. Music was very loud and tables were small and very tightly packed together so it felt very cramped and noisy. Service was good and the food was excellent but more of a family friendly or young persons place, I felt, than a grown up dinner & chat.

This place packs a punch! I have the burger and fries. First the fries are seasoned with Tajin!!! Mind blowing, if they are hot it's honestly the star of the meal. My friend had the steak and fries and her steak (Bis-tec) was mouthwatering! 10/10. I went back to order the fries and bist-tec tacos, well worth the time it takes to wait on the meal.

In almost mid ages environment Latino vibes are given with really (!) tasteful and spicy bites. So rather pick the tostadas then the tacos. The 🌮 were good but no special dish compared with the rest. Service I'd like to give a 6 of 5. Good approach and plenty of staff members which is something I gladly spend money to. Me glad were never more the half empty... 👍🙂

A delightfully authentic Mexican restaurant, La Esquina is very popular and renowned by both locals and tourists alike. Dining either inside the atmospheric environment or street-side outside, the flavour and tone is true Mexican. A must visit. Buen Provecho!

Had dinner here after being invited by our daughter. Once we found it, look for the corner deli, we were directed down to the basement for the experience. It is a great setting with good music and ambiance. The margaritas were taken as an appero while we waited for the rest of the party. The food and service could not be faulted with the tacos and corn cob being the star performers from an exceptional presentation of food. Very enjoyable evening

Visiting la Esquina is little bit of a secret... You reach an a kiosk (Mexican kiosk?) and you are not sure wether it's the place. Giving you reservation name to the doorman and he call the supercharger, going down to the basement passing through the kitchen, reaching a dark room. The food is good enough, although, a little bit expansive The fish to share $30 is not big enough, and good enough. All other dishes are ok. So, should you go there? I believe that once is nice to experiance the atposphee

Went here for drinks on a Thursday night and sat in the basement bar area. Definitely a fun place, but for some reason didn't blow my mind.

Was brought here by a friend who lives in NY. At first it was very curious as it looked like a street corner gran-n-go taco stand. We walked in and went to a gentleman with a clipboard and earpiece. he showed us through a door that led downstairs through the kitchen to a warm and very secretive establishment. Very "see and be seen" young crowd. My 20 year old son loved it. I can live without hipsters. Great tequila selection. A long wait for our table but once seated we were met with delicious food. Very tight tables-you get to know your neighbors without even trying. Great place to experience once. Private area that could be reserved for special occasion/meeting. Cool scene but I may have aged out!!

this is one of this e insiders secrets, that isn't quite a secret anymore , but still def not mainstream. True speakeasy style, you walk into this silver stream during car and right in front of you stands a hostess at a random hostess desk ( considering the space is only two people deep, and diner of course ) . If you're ballsy, you walk up and ask to be taken downstairs. If you look cool enough, she will. You will go through a swing door behind her, down a wood staircase, through the kitchen ( going full blast) and out into this dark cool, cavern of a bar with candelabra and candles so used , their wax rivets have dripped down the bar onto the floor. Foos is really good Mexican for a New York establishment - but it's the vibe. The vibe has lasted over a decade and it's still really cool.

Went for a mid week dinner and found this place, busy but got a table for 2 after 20 mins. There’s a trendier bar section and a seated restaurant where we were. Nothing fancy but a step up from a basic taco place. Really good chips and guacamole and then a run through various soft tacos- chicken, fish special, pork and (best) lamb. Friendly service and ok prices. Thumbs up from me!

Super cool SOHO mexican restaurant with very tasty food, very friendly and efficient service (fine dining class service!!) and really nice atmosphere and ambience. We came five persons - two adults and three teenagers - and we where all very satisfied with the entire evening!!! Highly recommendable for everyone who like to dine really good food in a cool and friendly environment!
Nice tacos
The tacos over there were really good, however, the others that we ordered weren't so tasty. We are not sure why but we will come back to double-check that as the service was good and the prices as expected.
