My family and I went here late night to dinner on our final night of vacation in New York. The waiter was phenomenal and had great dinner & wine recommendations. The atmosphere was lovely- quaint, cozy & candlelit. By far my favorite restaurant we visited!

We happened upon this restaurant and couldn't have been happier. Really tasty pizza -high expectations for a pesto pizza and they crushed it! Very nice server and a really cool gazebo for lunch on a rainy day. My wife, daughter and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Very good lasagna, nice atmosphere, fair prices for NY. We came here after reading the comments on TripAdvisor and we do not regret our choice. Fast and courteous service

was on macdougal looking for a cup of coffee and a quick bite to eat...naturally gravitated to the well know cafe reggio....long wait to get in and did not want to be bothered with that so asked where can we go nearby and la lanterna was recommended........so happy we were steered in that direction. our service was FANTASTIC ...warm friendly, and immediate....just a really nice vibe....the owner Marisa could not have been nicer and has a real old school approach to treating customers .... we look forward to going back and going there often...coffee and gelato were good and the pizzas that were coming out of the oven were the real deal...nice and thin .....next time will ask to sit in the sunlight enclosed garden ... a very nice touch....downstairs offers a bar and smaller space with music after 6pm....going to make this my go to place on macdougal

Definitely worth a visit if you have time. Out the back has a nice atmosphere with excellent food and service.

This place is one of my favorites in all of New York- amazing atmosphere, especially in the garden, and great, affordable Italian food. The wine list is extensive, pesto pizza is amazing, almost as good the real deal (and I lived in Italy for two years). Great place for a date or intimate dinner.

A nice atmosphere with a fairly robust menu of Italian classics. The lasagna flight was a unique experience and tasty! Made a reservation, but for an early dinner, it didn't seem like a necessity. Would recommend this restaurant!

One of the nicest pizzas I've ever had. It's got a great buzzing atmosphere. Would definately recommend.

Had a really tasty thin pizza and salad between 2 of us. Plenty of food and prices reasonable for new York.

We came here for New Years and had a wonderful 5 course meal on New Years. Our server was absolutely wonderful and made our night very enjoyable. It's quite a small space and likely even more so since it was NYE. We weren't in the same room as the Jazz but it was nice to listen to. There's a beautiful indoor garden upstairs that we didn't sit in but will hopefully go back to try out. Good place to celebrate New Years in an intimate setting. They even passed out necklaces, and things to make noise for the countdown. It was lovely.

This place is great! The food was far better than I anticipated. It's a little on the small side but the wait staff is fantastic and the food is reasonably priced. Great for families.

What an amazing find!! Thank you to Vittorio and his staff for our amazing dinner with our students before we returned to Australia. The pizzas were so delicious, the tiramisu one of the best we have had. Our drama students said this was their fave meal. We will definitely be back on our next tour. 10/10 please everyone go if you get the chance. A cool little jazz bar is also part of the restaurant.

What a great find on Washington Square. We made a reservation so we could sit up front where it is a little quieter. We had pizza and lasagna with bolognese sauce. It was very good. House wine was a Bogle Merlot. Great dinner. They have a larger dining room in the back but it is loud in there. A jazz bar is on the lower level. Great place to eat! We will go back!!

Came to this restaurant on the recommendation of a Tissot salesman (!) and we were not disappointed. Stopped in for lunch on a rainy New York day and had an awesome pizza and minestrone soup. Would have loved to go back for dinner!

Lasagna and pizza is their speciality - particularly lasagna. We had their Flights of Lasagna, essentially a sampler of four different types. Food was very good, excellent service. It's an old dark place with lots of small dinning rooms and bars -- love the atmosphere. $200 for four people with wine. It was fun spot for friends to meet up for dinner. I will go back.

My daughter attends school in NYC & took us here for lunch. I was very surprised at the extensive menu & wine list. We had appetizers, garlic bread with olive oil (baked fresh there) - pizza, minestrone, Caesar salad (with lots on anchovies on the side) and the Cannoli for dessert. YUM! Located close to NYU.

We came here because a friend recommended it. Service was very good. The four of us ordered two lasagnas and a pizza between us. It was enough for us. Seating was a little tight. It was hard for our old eyes to read the menu because the lighting is rather low, but the server gave us great recommendations. Food was very good.

Such a lovely little gem tucked into the Village just off of Washington Square. This cafe has the most delightful desserts and their coffee is some of the best I have ever experienced. Hot or Iced! Be sure to venture to the very back of this establishment. You will find the most adorable atrium cafe setting. Each time I am in NYC I strive to return to this location for its service, tranquility of setting, and the treats to found within.

The food is delicious and atmosphere cosy, but the timings need some work. Our starters had only been on the table for 5 minutes before we had to scrape the remainder onto a side plate as the mains were ready. The bottle of wine we’d ordered then didn’t come out until we were 3/4 of the way through the main. All in all a fairly rushed disorganized experience.

An excellent old school Italian restaurant in the heart of Greenwich Village, just off Washington Square Park.

I met my wife here for the first time. Met here on our first date, and the rest is history. Great food, great service!

Such a great and cozy place for date night. Great food with amazing deserts. I go back every time in NYC!

Amazing Italian menu done superbly. European style dishes with amazing taste. Came back for the four cheese lasagna with truffle (Always impeccable). Enjoyed a cold soup prior, which was a delight. This place is certainly a staple in my restaurant list. Go and enjoy.

We love the bar upstairs for a pizza and bottle of wine before the show at the Blue Note. If you're going in the winter you'll want to snag a table by the fire for sure. Nothing is more fun than sitting by their big fire and watching the snow come down. I haven't eaten downstairs but it smells like Italian heaven.

This place was such a treat! From the amazing wine list, excellent service and amazing pizza. We enjoyed several bottles of Italian Red and Bruschetta. The pizza was amazing. Highly recommended!!

I was looking for good lasagna in new york and I visited this restaurant, unfortunately it was very bad and overcooked! I told to the manager and he did 50% discount ,I appreciate

This Italian is a gem. Within the restaurant, there is an outside terrace where you can sit cozy and very nicely. The lasagna is great but the wine even better. Waiters are very nice. We had cheesecake for dessert which was also really nice!

Excellent for a casual night out if you love hearty, homemade Italian food. Great for pizzas, calzones, and lasagnas, in fact the restaurant seems to make a specialty of lasagnas and we enjoyed every one in the flights. Service is a true gem, all servers were pleasant and prompt, and even though the restaurant was packed we did not feel rushed or pushed. Would definitely visit again if we are in the area!

Visited with my wife early September and was not disappointed. We both had bruschetta which was excellent then both had the lasagne which was equally good. Unfortunately it was busy so we couldn't get a seat in the garden but this didn't spoil our experience.

Not being from the area we had reservations and dinner at a nearby place that was supposed to be the place to go to, had a michelin star....man do I wish we would have had dinner here instead. The atmosphere was just so cute. We just stumbled upon this place as we were walking around and decided to go in and have a drink as it was our last night in NYC. We really just enjoyed being here. The food looked and smelled great (even though we just ate). The service was good too. Tammer was very nice and offered great hospitality. I can't wait until we return to NYC so we can actually have dinner here.

Came here with a group of coworkers for dinner. There were 7 of us, and we were seated on the back patio around two fairly small cafe tables pushed together. We were worried we'd be a bit cramped but it really wasn't a problem at all. Our server was wonderful and gave us some wine suggestions to start our meal. Many of us ordered pizzas and they were EXCELLENT (at least the three that I had bites of were excellent). Downstairs (where the restroom was) had live jazz performers, and it felt incredibly cozy and romantic. At the end of the evening, we were treated to free dessert shots by our server. Really wonderful epxerience all around!

This has been on my list of must try places, so, for my birthday I made that happen! We booked a table for 8 downstairs (I wanted the garden, but, not as equipped for big parties) plus, it was a few weeks before Christmas and crazy.) made my reservation over the phone and the host couldn’t have been more helpful. Managed to squeeze us in at a rather late notice. We were seated downstairs (there are a few tables in the front followed by the bar and then the garden area (which is ADORABLE and so cozy.) the whole place has a right NYC feel to it and the place was bustling! Downstairs is crowded, but more in comfortable closeness than inconvenient. However, the noise level was a bit more than usual, don’t not recommended if you want an incredibly quiet dinner. Low ceilings as well which can make it feel a little claustrophobic, but again, I love the crowded NYC feel. Ordered a few bottles of wine (had a valpolicella that was outstanding...see picture below) as well as a Merlot, but we didn’t order multiple bottles of that.) Started with some bruschetta, which was outstanding and quite large in portions. Perfect for sharing, and delicious to boot. We ordered a bunch of pizzas (their pesto was amazing and I believe we ordered about three :) which were perfect for sharing, as well as a calzone that was delicious. Following the meal our server sent us some chocolate birthday shots that were delightful. Server was lovely, although I think a bit overwhelmed. Forgot a few things, but was sincerely apologetic, and we were in no rush so no bother. Made some great recommendations and was quite funny, really helped make the night enjoyable. Definitely recommended, and a great date or special occasion spot!

Found a recommendation for this place on reddit. So, we tried it. We were certainly not disappointed. The food was amazing - get the lasagna flight! The service was quick and attentive.

Seriously AMAZING food!!! The lasagna was the best I have ever had! The service was equally as good!! Can’t wait to go back to have dinner in the beautiful patio area :)

My wife and were in New York for the weekend celebrating her birthday. We had dinner at La Lanterna Saturday night. The ambiance, food and service were all stellar. The decor dim and is like an inside garden with hanging lanterns. It was a little cold at times but not too bad. We started with a cheese assortment that came with focaccia chips, a bowl of potato leek soup and salad....all of which were excellent! For dinner, I had a pizza with mushrooms, garlic and hot sausage. It was one of the best pizzas I’ve had. The dough was crispy and tasty and the toppings were excellent. My wife had the lasagna which she loved. The dinner came with complimentary homemade chocolate grappa. Delicious! Lastly, the service was very good. We were saved by an Italian woman who was very nice, friendly and attentive. I would definitely return here again!

One of the best restaurants in the neighborhood, the pizza was so delicious and the salads too. The ambiance is so magical, with lanterns all over the place! We will surely come back! :-)

Order a salad, add "chicken" to it and await a plate of soggy arugula swimming in way too much olive oil, topped with, I kid you not, watery, sliced chicken from Wegman's (or maybe, Gristedes).

This is a great restaurant. Friendly staff, an enjoyable casual atmosphere and excellet authentic Italian food. The Lagagna was a highlight, but the seriously moist tiramisu came a close second. My only regret is that as this was my last night in New York I couldn't visit it again..... next time

The lasagna is delicious!! Came here after going to the comedy club with my friend. The atmosphere was also very nice! They seated the both of us immediately. Definitely worth the try.

On a recent weekend in NYC, our small group of two couples visited this restaurant with the expectation it would live up to claims made on its website. While the atmosphere might be considered "romantic", there are other spots in town that do it better. In spite of the good service and pleasant wait staff, the products from the kitchen leave a little to be desired. The pizza was burned. The entrees were "bland" lacking any excitement to the Italian cuisine. The saving grace was the custard dessert. It was very good. Having said all this, we are undecided as to whether we would re-visit this cafe. Perhaps only for cocktails.

Visited La Lanterna on Valentine's Day reasonably early without a booking and luckily managed to get a table as it was first class! Even though the staff were very busy trying to deal with the phone calls coming in for the valentines rush they all had time to spend talking to us and recommending cocktails and certain dishes! The restaurant itself was very homely with lovely decor, relaxing music and a big fire to make for a very cosy setting! Have another week in New York and will most likely visit again! Girl with the braided hair was particularly lovely and showed a real interest in what we had to say!

I have been coming here since 1993 when I lived in the neighborhood. I try to update my reviews every few years. The elderly Italian couple who ran it then have Ling since retired--and it shows in the decline in the quality of the food. But, when I hear Billy Joel's "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant," this is the place I think of. The ambiance alone makes it one of my too restaurant picks in NYC. Cozy and warm in Winter; an inviting sunroom in spring/summer. And they still have live jazz on weekends. Just steer clear of the lasagna, which they really push. Pizzas are OK, but the crust is not as good as it used to be. The bread with the cheese plate is amazing, and I am partial to the panini. Good wine selection at a reasonable price for NYC. Great coffee menu. Still love it even if it isn't perfect! (And the wait staff can be indifferent at times. Sometimes you just have to demand attention!)

Charm with all the authentic tastes of Italy. This little gem is a treasure, one that is worth the wait, which wasn’t that bad at all, for a Saturday night. Give La Lanterna di Vittorio a try.

After a warm and busy afternoon, we stopped by La Lanterna for cool beverages and shared sweets. So glad we did. We were seated on the rear patio, a charming greenhouse-like space. Iced cappuccino, iced cocoa (unsweetened) and shared cannoli and a delicious fruit torte. It was a truly relaxing and refreshing interlude. The staff was wonderful and encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted.

Very good lasagna, with different flavors, some even very alternative like Lasagna cheese and pepper and fast service. The only problem is that, when the waiter handed me the plate to serve it, did not warn me that it was very hot and, this hurt for a moment in my finger, but the Recommendation

We enjoyed La Lanterna so much on our first visit that we returned for our final evening in New York. The cocktails were excellent and the pizzas were extremely tasty. With a lovely ambience and good service this was the best restaurant we experienced during our New York visit. Thank you very much Vittorio. If we get back to New York we will definitely return!

Very good Italian food that doesn't try to set the world alight. Pizzas are delicious and well-priced for this area of NYC. The decor is genuinely old with some interesting 19th century features. The house itself has a very interesting history - a stopping point for the underground railroad and a fin de siècle lesbian club called Eve's place. Jazz every night in the basement bar and a nice if slightly noisy covered garden area at the rear. Heartily recommend and from experience know that this lovely restaurant stands out in this part of Manhattan.

We stumbled across this cute little Italian restaurant. The atmosphere, food and service were great! We especially enjoyed our server, Andrea. She was friendly and very good. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it!

We stumbled upon this little gem buy accident but thank goodness we did! Great staff who were friendly and attentive made our dinner a delight. Extensive pizza menu leaving you spoilt for choice which delivered on the taste. Great atmosphere great for couples or friends. I wouldn't say family friendly as it's quite dark, but we loved the decor and feel as it had great character. Worth a visit and would highly recommend.

My friend took me here for his favorite dessert. The tiramisu was delicious. He had the chocolate mousse but mine was way better! The place is very cute.

We stumbled upon this gem after visiting Washington Square. Great salads and very well custom-made pizzas. Warning: their desserts are to die for! Great atmosphere. Side note: staff very honest!

I would never.say never believed.to eat such a good lasagna. Each of us had a different lasagna and they were all 10 and praise. So too cannolo.il tiramisu and cream caramel. A corner of Italy in New York in Greenwich village! Nicoletta Montecatini T. - Tuscany

I discovered this gem after seeing an off Broadway play down the block. I asked to sit in the garden, which I recommend. The glass roof makes it suitable year round. The wrought iron tables and chairs, ocre painted walls and bubbling fountain transport you to an Italian patio. The menu offers lasagna, pizza, panini, salads and desserts. I ordered the pizza with wild mushrooms, garlic and red pepper. It was big enough to share. My Bellini was disappointing, though. The Prosecco was flat. The cappuccino was foamy and good; try it with whipped cream. I'll be back.

Nice decor, warm and cozy in the heart of Greenwich Village. Exquisite lasagna and great desserts. The service depends on the waitress.

Went for lunch to the interior garden. Beautiful atmosphere. Great pizza and coffee. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.

My husband and visited New York twice, and came here 3 times haha. our first trip we returned on our last day, because we wanted it again so badly! The back patio is so amazing, and romantic. The waterfall, the lighting. It is all so perfect. We had pizza, and cocktails. I love the Margherita pizza, and the Manzo Carpacci. Simply delicious. My husband truly enjoyed the Pizza Con Speck. Service was great, very friendly and efficient. We have sent many of our friends here during their NY visits, and they have all come back raving over La Lanterna. This is a do not miss if you are in NY! Bonus, in the sprign, summer, early fall: it is a few steps over to washinton square park where we found street musicians, skateboarders etc.

Stumbled across this gem after a day's sightseeing. What a lovely place! Friendly staff and the food (and drink) was amazing. We both had delicious pizzas and a great chat with Vittorio himself, putting the world to rights! Found there was a jazz bar downstairs just as we were about to leave which was a shame as we'd have probably gone down there for a drink. Definitely one to go on the list of great finds! Thank you Vittorio and co for your great company ... and the tiramisu!

We were 4 people . We had pizza pasta salads and Wine. Atmosphere was beautiful and we all loved our food. The service was excellent and the owner visited our table often. Very attentive. We will definitely go back.

We visited this restaurant because we saw in some reviews from the past that in the evenings they played live jazz and could be entered with minors, and I read in the reviews that the food was rich. We went on a Friday between 6:30pm and 8pm, we had no reservation but we found table I think because we went early, but when we left it was all busy. At least in the time I was and being Friday there was no live jazz, but the food experience was very rich. We ate lasagna and it was delicious, the one that stood out over the others was one that had peperoni and shrimp, yumi, yumi. We had a winery that was very delicious and priced correctly. Overall the food of the 3 we were, including two cocktails, a glass of wine and the 3 ate dessert the bill was 130US which is a very correct value for the quality of food and service. We were attended by a waiter named Marck who took care that we felt with very good service. If I went back to New York, I'd like to eat the peperoni lasagne with shrimp again.

The atmosphere was very cute and the food was fresh and delicious. Our waiter was amazing and was able to recommend some great dishes that we enjoyed, and was very attentive.

We were drawn to this restaurant based on the late night hours. Truth is, after 1 AM only pizza is an option. Other customers were rudely cut off from ordering alcohol drinks after 130. And the entire time we were there, the waitresses and staff were cleaning to get out by 2 AM. We were extremely rushed, and we felt like we were an inconvenience on being there. Had to request water refill, napkins, things like that. Because our waitress was only focused on refilling salt-and-pepper for the next day. She acted like she was mad we were there. Pizza was good, price for food was good.

We found this spot while waiting to see a show and it was our best find in New York for Italian food and ambiance. Worth the wait to sit out on the patio with the laterns.

We visited this restaurant after reading good reviews and we were not disappointed. We did visit mid-week but didn’t book a table in advance, however this wasn’t a problem and we were offered our choice of tables. We chose to sit in the covered garden area which was really cosy and welcoming. The food was very good and the waiting staff were accommodating, frequently filling our water glasses. If we’re ever back in the city we’ll definitely return.

La lanterns di Vittorio is nice place . A great spot for pizzas and desserts We ordered: 1. Pizza con Prosciutto Arrositto 2.Carpacci Bresaola 3. Raspberry cheese cake 4. Tiramisu. 5. Cappuccino 6. Cocktails . Food are fresh and tasty. Prices are pretty reasonable for the this area. Place is very charming , but the tables are a bit small. At the next table sat a guy and a girl. She spoke very loudly. Of course, this was not the restaurant’s fault, but listening to her moronic conversation was unbearable. Staff are so friendly , but service is little slow. Overall, I would like to come back and try other dishes from the menu.

Part three of our venture we went to La Lanterna Di Vittorio The food was excellent with the Lasagna being the key and really good. The inside is like a outdoor courtyard but indoors. Really nice setting. Service was very good.

There’s never a bad time to go here. After a nice anniversary dinner we wanted some more of the village and grabbed a hot coffee mix and some desert. Make sure to stroll along Washington Square Park and take in the Village/NYU vibe. Tight quarters, great service. Every time is a good time to go

Lots of different seating areas from a sunny terrace to a cozy dark basement. Live music in the bar at night. Menu is limited but the food is delicious. Lasagnas are good, and the calzones are huge. Bruschetta is tasty. Bottles of wine from $30. Service is uninspired but adequate.

The Quin Hotel got us a table for 2 in the restaurants back garden. The service was great and the food was amazing. For an Italian guy, Italian restaurants are a hit and miss for me but this one was definitely a HIT. Food was so tasty and fresh and really a great place to eat. Special thank you La Lanterna for those homemade Chocolate Grappa offerings. One of the BEST things we’d ever tasted. Grazie !!!

My first visit to La Lanterna: Sat at table in their rear garden (covered atrium) and had a terrific meal, a "flight" of lasagna, four flavors served in individual ramekins. Good red wine, perfect service. Only minus was paper napkins. Real food demands real, cloth napkins.

Sit outside in the all-season garden - was nice and cool on a hot summer day, and the food was great. I had a lasagna that was really good - lots of cheese and a big portion; the waitress even got the cook to 'make' me some garlic bread even though it didn't come with my meal. A great stop while in Greenwich Village or a very short walk from Washington Square Park

Cheap and cheerful Italian in Greenwich Village a good choice if you’re going to the nearby Comedy Cellar or Blue Note. Basically pizzas or lasagne - the latter available As a ‘flight’ ie four quarters of different lasagne. They were all decent. The wine by the glass was nothing special but we liked the ‘greenhouse’ area at the back. Very busy but not too noisy.

Compared to what we are used, this place was packed and loud! However, it was worth every second! The pizza was fantastic and the dessert to die for! Ask to sit in the garden-- it is a magical view! I would highly recommend!

I went there because it said it had an 'outdoor' area and had great reviews, after a long week of work, making time for a small dinner break in my very busy schedule. After I was done with dinner in a very loud constricted room, I asked to be moved upstairs as they sat 2 large super noisy groups and had started a loud unpleasant music. I just stopped being able to tolerate it (it wasn't even about enjoying anymore). As we ordered dessert (should never had), I asked the waiter if he could move us upstairs so we could at least enjoy that. The waiter said there was no space upstairs and that people were lining up outside. I went upstairs and there were 3 empty tables and absolutely no line. It was quite late and the whole restaurants was getting emptied anyway so I asked the waiter why he lied to me. He said the manager had told him to do so (like he couldn't care less that I caught the lie - not even sure what he could have done anyway). I couldn't even cut the tip because it wasn't the waiter's fault that their manager was creating that kind of culture. But just so you know.....

My mom and I were touring (wandering was really more like it!) Greenwich Village and enjoying the beautiful homes and the NYU campus when we stopped for a late lunch/early dinner. The restaurant was charming! The food was delicious, as was the wine! We chose to sit up front by the window and watch the world go by, but next time I may want to sit "outside" in their fantastic greenhouse dining area. Our server was a little "curt" at first, but she warmed up quickly as we chatted with her and she loved hearing it was my mom's first-ever visit to NYC. This is a great local place to visit and I highly recommend it!

My husband and I have been going to Vittorio's for 36 years. It gets better and better. The desserts are always fresh and delicious. I had the caramel custard and my husband had the pecan pie. Both to die for. We remember when Henry the cat used to join us by the fireplace downstairs during our visits. This is a must place to stop in The Village!!!

I'm on a business trip so dining alone but felt really comfortable here...staff very gracious and food is delicious. Love the cozy atmosphere and patio too.

Took my family here after a day of shopping in NYC. Got ripped off at the Chalk Point Kitchen for lunch so was hoping for a better value here. Got it. Staff was great. Food delicious. Fun atmosphere. All in all very worth while.

A cozy place to sit with friends, listen to live music and have a bite of delicious pizza, Hot Spiced Apple Cider and an array of desserts.

Dropped in for a quick meal ahead of a theatre outing. This is a busy place, but the staff were efficient in taking food and drink orders, and delivery was prompt. Usual Italian fare with a heavy emphasis on pizza. Good drinks list, especially the Gin list. Nice to get complimentary limoncello to finish what was a satisfying meal.

From the outside it looks like a small little cafe but it is not. Inside they have a really really nice sitting which feels sort of like you are in an indoor garden. It was really lovely. The food was great, as well as the service. We took so long to choose what to order (there were many many great options) but the staff was very patient. The location is quiet nice too.

Looked for quaint spot near Washington Square Park for lunch and found the restaurant with garden seating. Food and service was great! Certainly recommend.

This 2 floor cozy restaurant was chock full and for good reason. The food was amazingly good. They specialize in lasagna and offer it baked in various ways including “a flight of lasagna” . I had the 4 cheese which was the best I’ve ever had. I keep thinking about how good it tasted and hope to return.

Had a nice lunch on the beautiful garden patio. Pretty basic- espresso, pizza and wine. Everything was delicious and service was good. I love garden patio restaurants!

I went there for lunch with my family, niece and nephew. Lovely ambiance, but small. Very small table space. Food was out standing in taste and quantity. A bit pricey, but may be okay for New York standards. Bread and pizza quality was very good. The tiramisu was one of the best that I have eaten. They dont have any pastas except for lasagna.

I've never been to Italy, but I think this is what it would feel like. My boyfriend found this place and though it is small, it wraps you in Italian decor. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere is calming, and I would recommend this place to anyone.

We ordered lasagna and pizza, the pizza was ok (nothing special I would say) but the lasagna was really good! Pecan pie was good as well

Before going to a music bar in the neighborhood we landed in this typical Italian restaurant. We had a great pizza. Really a delight. Great food and nice people.

We heard about the great Lasagna flights from our adult daughter and friend who visited in the Spring. What we didn't capture was how jammed into the place we would be, what a Zoo upstairs! Would not go back for free food in that atmosphere. Doesn't anyone want to tell the emperor they have no clothes? The bathroom across from the food delivery...really NYC! No where for someone to wait if it's occupied without standing in the waiters food transport zone. Music (not live) being blasted so you can't even have a conversation with your dinner partner. I Tkid you not the tables upstairs we had couples to each side of us with less than 6" between the tables either way and your bumping shoulders with them. You might wonder how they are even getting a 3 from me...well the waiter was very attentive, quick with keeping drinks filled, and the food was good and reasonably priced for NYC.

Nice lunch in the atrium. The service was good and the food came quickly. The food was tasty and the staff was friendly. This is near NYU and has a nice college feel.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a magic veranda The pizza are delicious We went twice and ordered different pizza. The lasagna are bit too greasy for my taste Excellent cappuccino Excellent service.

Sunday night, start with dinner in the rear terrace, then head down into the cave for dessert and fabulous live jazz. Limited menu, good wine selection, slow service.

We ordered a caprese salad for $13 and all that came out was 3 thin slices of tomato, 3 small pieces of mozzarella and 2 tiny basil leaves. My friend ordered the turkey salad and it was just leaves, not worth your money. Drinks were expensive at $14 a cocktail. Service was below average. If the server’s wage didn’t depend on tip, I wouldn’t have even left one. Also, the place was super dark, everyone was using their phone to read the menu.

Wow! It's cosy, atmospheric and romantic! Service was impeccable and the ambience caused by the candles created a beautiful vibe. Food was very tasty!

This place looks like a restaurant from an Italian movie. Th food is very good and the price is affordable ( especially for New York ). The service is good and the ambience is cozy and intimate.

If you are looking for a nice meal in the West Village, look no further than La Lanterna di Vittorio. This place is so cute, complete with a heated back garden and the atmosphere is perfect for any and all occasions. The menu is extensive, but the pizza is not to be missed. I had pizza with pesto, goat cheese, and pine nuts and it was fantastic! Each pizza is an original artistic creation and you can't go wrong with any of the options on the menu. Overall, this place is reasonably priced and good for both lunch and dinner. Love coming here and can't wait to go back!

We came hungry and tired, we went to see the Recommendation in the Guide to Restaurants near Washington Square. The small and very cozy place, with an indoor dining room, a very well placed backyard and even some very romantic tables for 2 on the sidewalk (those ideal for the night). The very varied menu, lasagna, pizzas and salads we ordered were delicious. Very good service, very attentive and helpful. Magdalene was very attentive to our table and our order. All wonderful. We will definitely repeat!

Good option near Washington Square. Typical Italian restaurant. Lasagnas are the specialty. the menu is basically pasta

When I think of NYC, I think of this place. It's a posh, intimate Italian cafe nestled in the middle of historic MacDougal open late, very late — perfect for music lovers just getting out of shows nearby. I fell in love with the warm, intimate ambience and the European cafe menu. Wished I could've gone back a few more times. After a rousing Mike Stern show at the 55 Bar, we wound down the night with cups of hot unsweetened cocoa with whipped cream (fancy sugar's on the table) and a heavenly slice of chocolate mud cake (not pie), which a few locals recommended. They also recommended the Nutella pizza. I could've sat there all night. If I'm ever in NYC again, I'm going to set up shop there.

It's a very romantic place with a decent menu and wine selection. The patio is definitely the high point with a beautiful set up.

Nice bar in Greenwich (I think), lots of character, some good beers and great service. We weren’t there that long, just enough time to have a frozen frapachino

We stumbled upon this restaurant and it was a great find. Everything was delicious from the cocktails, appetizers, salads to dinner. We also forgot our credit card and didn't realize until the next evening. They had it safe and sound. We will return on our next trip for sure.

Very nice atmosphere also when seated outside, good food made with fresh ingredients. Simple Italian dishes that do not disappoint. Overall a good value for money.

I had the cheese lasagna and it was just fine. Main takeaway about this experience was the very very rude waiter, only because we asked for a separate receipt for the wine (work dinner).

awesome venue, service is great. good food. the ambiance is romantic but I went with family and friends and we had a wonderful time. They also have a jazz band downstairs and a garden that is open all year round as it is enclosed

The pizza crust tasted amazing and so did the Tiramisu. Our waitress was quite witty and super polite. The Wintergarten type guest room gave the perfect ambience for our lunch.

I was intrigued when I found this place on Trip Advisor. Great ratings and unique menu. They press their own oil from peppers which we used to dip the the bottomless bread bowl. We had a large group so we ordered many items which we shared. The Pesto Pizza and Pesto Lasagna are certainly worthy of note. Cappuccino and tiramisu capped off a great meal. Tammer was our server and he was excellent.

We were visiting from California & it was a snow day so we wanted a place where we could enjoy a nice leisurely lunch by a fire with a bottle of wine & watch it snow. This place was perfect! The food is amazing with a fantastic wine list. We enjoyed pizza & lasagna & 2 bottles of wine, sat by the window & watched it snow while gazing at the fire place. It was the perfect afternoon & one of our favorites days in NYC.

Wonderful service and the authentic Italian food will remind you of your or one of your friends Italian mother's. We arrived without a reservation on a Saturday evening in summer and received a warm welcome and a table downstairs. It's a little dark for older eyes to read the menu down there but the staff were helpful and made recommendations. A couple of pizzas and a lasagna arrived without delay. They were delicious and the portions generous even for the very hungry. A great wine list - offered by the glass and a good range of beers rounded out the enjoyment. Reasonable prices. Great food. Excellent service.

We sat in the covered atrium in the back and had drinks. It was so cozy. Next time we'll come back to eat - the food looked really good.

I've been here many times since 1985, 8 years after La Lanterna di Vittorio opened up. Initially it was a cafe, with delicious coffees and desserts. In later years, it became an Italian restaurant and now, their specialties include various pizzas and lasagnas. My husband and I came here last night for dinner, with a reservation prior to a performance at the Blue Note Jazz Club, less than 2 blocks away, We opted for dinner here, for more selections + better food and it was a good choice. Our waitress Gaby, was very friendly and went over their specialities of lasagnas and pizzas, We decided to share the arugula salad which was delicately dressed with lemon juice and shaved parmigiana reggiano cheese and the gorgonzola and walnut personal pizza - 12" of pure yum, enough for the two of us. We topped off our dinner by sharing the bread pudding. La Lanterna has an amazing menu of home made desserts. Love coming here anytime - for dessert, for lunch, for dinner. A staple in the village. Highly recommend!

Wonderful place. So romantic that you will come back as myself for the las 20 years...best in class cakes and sweets plus pizzas and paninis. Do not miss the cappuccino. And enjoy the garden! Superb service and at night you can enjoy live Jazz in the bar in the basement. Do not miss it!

I absolutely love this place. The ambience is delightful and the food is delicious. We always have great service and a great time. I look forward to my next visit. This place never disappoints.

My husband and I visited La Lanterna di Vittorio this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. It was wonderful! We sat in their indoor garden which is a few steps down when you enter the restaurant. Really neat with lanterns and a romantic yet chill ambiance. The lasagna was delicious! I didn’t have the potato leek soup but my husband was very impressed with it. Great options for cheese samples too. We arrived around 6:15 on a Saturday and were fortunate enough to be seated right away as there was only one table left in the garden section. Adjacent to the restaurant is their jazz lounge which we had hoped to try but we were too busy enjoying our dinner and the show had already started. Restaurant is tucked into a cozy section of the Village. Would definitely recommend for a romantic date night or dinner with friends.

So glad we found this restaurant for our evening meal for our elopement. Food was delicious & the service was warm and friendly and they made a real effort to make it special for us. Tammer was our waiter and he was great. We sat in the garden area and it was lovely, not to hot or cold etc. Will definitely be going back there when we return to NYC one day.

My friend, who lives in Greenwich Village, introduced me to this cozy taverna tucked away on McDougall St. We were ushered to a quiet table on a terrace in the backyard by Agnes, our waiter. Friendly and charming, she introduced us to the featured dish here: Lasagna. There are perhaps a dozen varieties on offer and we settled on sharing from a tasting menu featuring this quintessential Italian dish. The food was a revelation, we drank Sangiovese to wash it down, and cannoli and cappuccino for dessert. The service and ambiance were magical. My companion and I had a luncheon that we are not likely to forget. Thank you Agnes for taking such good care of us.

We ate at this restaurant three times during our week stay in NYC. The food is authentic Italian. The tiramisu is made fresh every morning and the pesto lasagna is INCREDIBLE!! My Hubby liked the lasagna with meat. Everything was fresh and the cheese melted in your mouth. La Lanterna has a beautiful covered patio with vines, brick and lovely lanterns. The prices were reasonable and we LOVED Tameron, our server. He was very kind and personable. We wish this restaurant was in The Springs since we'd be regulars!

Very friendly restaurant. Very lively. Lots of NYU students and families. A bit noisy so difficult talking. We ordered two pizzas and both were delicious. I will definitely go again when I am in the neighborhood.

Being from an Italian family, I am considerably picky as I do have high standards when it comes to Italian food. La Lanterna di Vittorio exceeded my expectations!!! Incredibly delicious food and wine, while the service was also attentive and fast. I will definitely be back to dine here!

Came here with a friend to have lunch. We are two height-weight proportional men in their 40s and 50s. We each had a drink (mine was Americano) and shared a pizza (6 slices) and we struggled to finish the food. The pizza we ordered was the prosciutto pizza and it is absolutely delicious. My coffee was very enjoyable too. I also really love the ambiance. My friend and I sat next to a fireplace on a cold winter day. There also is a patio-like place (in door but with gorgeous sun light) that one can dine in and also stay warm. The only thing that I have to say (and it is not major) is during the time of our visit, there seems to be some problem with the men's room downstairs and the staff was not very communicative (as they were too busy handling the mishap) and caused some confusion. I still will come back and I think the problem with the men's room is an isolated event.

This restaurant is great! Staff is nice and the food is wonderful. Hard to decide what to order because everything looked so good! We got the quiche and a calzone. The calzone is literally the size of a dinner plate... come hungry!

This place is welcoming and has a nice garden room. Unfortunately our waiter was rude initially. Once he realized it may affect his tips his demeanour changed. Our food was good. I’d give it a second try.

Perfecto.... meals as it should be and service very good and restaurant inside as in Italia... so, if you want to have in a excellent restaurant, this is the place to be

Passable Italian joint if crushing Sat night crowds don't phase you. Food was fine, but more of a convenient, inexpensive standby than anything else.

Family of 5 went tonight for dinner, we were seated right away and between all of us tried 2 different lasagnas 2 different pizzas and a calzone, we all tasted eachothers and everything was delicious. I would definitely go back!!

Just a mere steps away from Washington Square Park and NYU, this Italian café is my absolute favorite. The pizza and paninis are superb. Add in a couple of drinks and dessert...you've got yourself a perfect meal. It's a cozy spot, and the year-round garden is beautiful. Great service!

Our family of four enjoyed our pizza at La Lanterna. We had great service and loved the garden setting.

La Lanterna is a fantastic restaurant with a wonderful ambience, serving the best lasagna in the city. My girlfriend and I have been here 4 anniversary dinners in a row (as well as several other instances with friends and family) and plan to return for years to come. Pro tip: the pesto lasagna rivals the classic for best thing on the menu...

Went here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. We were seated near the front of the restaurant at first but there was a lot of people walking by us so we moved down to the garden area which was really beautiful. Great for a romantic night out that isn't too pricy. Server was really nice and the pesto lasagna was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place.

What a great find! Haven't had better NY style well done crust pizzas! A quaint little place with romantic seating at the back of the restaurant. Attentive staff and owner who took personal interest in service and quality check. Had an awesome desert the apple pie with vanilla ice cream, ice tea, carpaccio, salad and the Pizza all Hit the T!

We were looking for a place to grab dinner before the show at The Blue Note when La Lanterna di Vittorio popped up. We couldn't have been more pleased. We sat upstairs by one of two fire places and enjoyed pizza. Unfortunately we couldn't linger over dinner but we did see the outside garden and downstairs. The desserts looked amazing and the aroma was right out of your grandma's kitchen. Our server was delightful and helped us checkout quickly so we'd make the show. This is one place I'll put on my recommendation list and will also be going back...maybe tonight!

Overall experience disappointing. Ok food but nothing special, surly service, tables much too close together. Loud and very lively if that’s what you’re after but not for us.

We we're recommended this restaurant by a friend of ours who works in the UK but is from new York. We we're so happy to find this little gem, the place was beautiful and the staff so friendly you could just sit and talk to them like there your old friend. The coffee was very good and the food outstanding. I wish we had a place like this back home. It's a fantastic place, with heard outside dinning in the back. Very romantic for couples.

Located in Greenwich village-this simple Italian was wonderful and cosy. Very atmospheric and bustling with several small dark candle lit rooms. We had a variety of dishes including lasagne, pizza and beet/rocket goats cheese salad - all tasty. The rose wine was delicious and chilled. A perfect start to our holiday.

Nice cozy atmosphere. Waitress was friendly. Food was good. Several selections of pizzas and sandwiches. Noise level was adequate for tableside conversation. Only downside was I was hungry for some sort of pasta, but alas, they did not have any. Only pasta type item was a lasagna. I was more in the mood for a fettuccine or spaghetti.

The lasagna was great and was served piping hot. Very tasty. My son had the turkey panini and although he wished there was more turkey on the sandwich he thought it was very good. The ambiance was also worth the trip.

We came for lunch. It was very cold outside, but the glass covered atrium garden offered a light and warm atmosphere. The menu has lots of options. We went for pizza and lasagne. The pizza con speck and the arrabiata and the two lasagnas were outstanding. Really excellent, and also quite large. The service was friendly and efficient. The only spot on this performance was the drinks. I would have welcomed a larger beer selection. Also, the glad if Malbec I ended up ordering was not terrific.

Had the margherita pizza and it was very classic and Italian. Also tried the pesto lasagna and it was very cheesy and flavorful. Had a raspberry cheesecake that was heavenly and a chocolate pie that was really chocolaty. The Minestrone Soup is one of the best I've had.The food it a little over priced but the ambiance is overall really nice, whether it be the garden, or the basement (they have live music.) It's best to have reservations.

Lasagna from heaven, and perfect pizzas. Very nice atmosphere, free from loud, disturbing music. Nice and swift service, and reasonably priced food. The back garden is very nice, especially in the evening i guess.

Had an early meal before attending the comedy cellar close by. Family of four, three had delicious pizzas and the other a Quattro formagi lasagna. Wines were very good and reasonably priced and the owner Vittorio very kindly gave us a glass of limoncello to finish our meal. Lovely ambiance and very good genuine Italian food.

4/1/17..Put this on your list of Dinner spots! The garden area in the back is quite cozy love the deco very nice. Very kind waitress and the manager walked around and greeted people. I had the Calzone with lamb sausage, my partner had the margarita Pizza with wild mushrooms and my sister/ niece also had the margarita Pizza......I would came back again

I can safely say La Lanterna is never a bad decision. Whether you want a full meal, a little snack or just to chill and listen to jazz La Lanterna will welcome you and send you do a different place in the most positive of terms. I’ve gone to La Lanterna since I was little and it’s food, service and tone never disappoint. The pizza is simple and classic in taste yet constructed different from any other. The salads leave you wanting more with their fresh and light flavors. And the pasta is thick and filling in combination with the other flavors as pasta in your dreams is. And do not even get me started on the deserts. It is perfect for any big event or just a family outing. And I personally recommend the mixed greens salad every chance you get to dine with them because it is absolutely everything a salad should be, while incredibly simple. Whenever and in whatever terms you go, La Lanterna will leave you in a good state of mind, and wanting more.

The lasagna was definitely not as great as in Italy, but good. The price was very nice for the quality of food. The pizza's looked fantastic and huge, so I would advice to take one of those. Service was very friendly, with free water getting refilled continuously. Tiramisu was good as well - not spectacular, but you are in NY and not Rome. Did not have to wait long for food. Would come back! Very happy about the personnel. They sing (very badly) for birthdays but the effort is nice!

We visited La Lanterna di Vittoro the first weekend of Dec and were disappointed with the service and food, our wait person was a young lady the didn't know anything about the food, Restaurant was packed and were accommodated at patio which had a good ambient, me and my wife ordered lasagna and food was just below average. the waitress didn't come back and probably past close to 30 mins to check on us, This is a restaurant that wont come back

Amazing service and prices. I would go here for every meal! The staff are spectacular and the food is to due for. A cozy place interior you can snuggle up for a romantic dinner in. And a hidden gem out back with their "Winter Garden."

No matter how trendy Manhattan gets, there are places that have been there for decades, and those are the places that give each neighborhood character and make them different from anyplace else in America! This places is a gem, full of patrons from all over the world, and Italians who know the real thing, too!

Had the lasagna bolognese and it was authentic Italian. Absolutely delicious! Perfect portion and our chocolate dessert was the tasty ending to a great meal.

We ate in the very pretty heated garden. Pizzas were good although my caprese salad was a bit underwhelming.Service friendly and efficient. Very popular and deservedly so. Close to NYU and Washington Square.

Excellent place, best pizza i've had outside of Italy. Super friendly straff, especially our waitress Sharia!

We visited for coffee, soft drinks and deserts. Everything was nice as well as their friendly service. We propose it and try to visit it again.

This restaurant is run by Italians and is visited by a lot of Italians too. Understandable, for the kitchen is 4-star! Try the lasagne with four cheeses, a non-meat day extra! Out back there is a garden, roofed and with AC, giving you that Italian feeling that makes your meal taste even better. An absolute must!!

I reserved a table in “the garden.” It’s actually a kind of backyard greenhouse without the green. It was extremely noisy like an echo chamber and only half full. It must be deafening when filled to capacity. My wife and I couldn’t communicate due to the noise. We changed to a lovely window seat up front. We had a tasty green salad with smoked duck. It was excellent. My main dish was the sausage and broccoli rabe lasagna. I chose this because it’s cooked with homemade pasta. This dish was submerged in gobs of melted cheese, so much so that I could hardly taste the sausage, pasta and broccoli rabe. Not good. I left half of it. My wife had a panino with salami and Gorgonzola on ciabatta roll. She liked it. Overall this was a mediocre experience and, with all the restaurant choices in this area, I would not return.

Three friends and I came in with a 6 pm reservation for a Friday night. (They accept ressos for 4 people or more, but you just have to call them). It seemed pretty busy by then already, but our food still came out relatively quickly. We decided to just order a bunch of things and share: 3-cheese course ($15) - choose any three cheese from the list. We went with the brie, stracchino, and mozzarella di bufala. All were great. You really can't go wrong with a cheese plate Mesclun Con Anatra Affumicata ($14.50) - warm smoked duck breast with mixed greens in a lemon mustard dressing. This was a nice way to start the meal. I was afraid the smoked duck would be too salty, but it was perfect. The lemon mustard dressing was nice and light - not too mustardy. Even my friend, who doesn't like mustard, said it was good Pizza con Prosciutto Arrostito ($16) - pizza topped with tomato sauce, ham, mozzarella, basil & EVOO. This was nice and thin (not overly thin) and was the perfect size for four people (one slice each) Lasagna al Pesto ($15.50) - homemade pasta layered with pesto sauce, bechamel & parmigiano cheese. This was definitely the star of the show. I had never even heard of pesto replacing tomato sauce for lasagna before, so it was a welcomed twist to a classic. It would be pretty heavy for one person, so I'm really glad that we decided to do family-style with all the dishes We also ordered a bottle of wine, and our total for everything came out to $40 pp. With all that food, I don't think you'd find a better price for the quality elsewhere. Our waiter wasn't that friendly, but then again, I'm not really that friendly either, so it's not a deal-breaker for me. At least he was attentive. Can't wait to come back!

I visited this amazing venue based on a recommendation. Our party of 4 was seated in the basement area near an inviting fireplace. From our seats we could hear the live Jazz music coming from a nearby room. The seating is close, but not so much so that your neighbor shares in your conversation. The food was outstanding! I had the Bolognese lasagna. Awesome meal. Others at the table enjoyed the Pesto lasagna. We had a super bottle of reasonably priced wine, which our waiter, Sergio, suggested. Might I suggest you ask to be seated in his section. What a pleasant experience. The food was reasonably priced.

The servers were extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming so it overtook the whole experience. Simple things like 'enjoy your meal ' or 'how is your food' were never asked and when I finished main course I was left alone. No one asked if I wanted coffee or desert. I was so taken back by the service I have never experienced such coldness.

We found this place because we were going to a show in comedy cellar. It was good Italian experience. Very good food in a dark but romantic atmosphere with warm and fast service. recommend the pizzas and especially the dolce lyce Gelato!

My wife and I fancied some decent Italian and we certainly got that here. We shared grilled sardines and a salad followed by a lasagne and prawns in with pasta. The wine choice is good. We were in the covered back garden area. It was noisy although to be fair, there was a group of 16 year olds celebrating a 16th birthday.

A lovely restaurant in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, serving Italian food. We opted for pizza and the mushroom lasagne, both of which were simply delicious. And our waiter was super friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.

We ate well. They say it's the best lasagna in NY. It's actually not bad, although don't expect it to be the best you've ever eaten. The pizza is very good. The place is cute, although very dark (you literally eat by candlelight). They have affordable wine for NY.

We found this restaurant through TripAdvisor (top ten in Greenwich) and it didn't disappoint. It was a very romantic setting with dark lighting and candles and some great red wine! The team were really friendly and very efficient and even though it was busy and we didn't book (you can't I dont think) we were seated really quickly. We both went for pizza and it was delicious. We also discovered the jazz club downstairs which sounded great (we didn't go in there unfortunately) Amazing and unique!

Ate here twice this week. Pizzas are fabulous. Crispy and grilled. Caprese salad was delicious. Service is fast and friendly. This is a great place to take a date. Romantic.

We ate here in advance of the Monday night magic show nearby. What a great surprise upon entering as the place was packed and buzzing. It was a bit of a tight squeeze but we didn't care. We had the most pleasant and helpful waiter, who brought delicious pizza and pasta. Limited menu but delicious and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Tripadvisor reviews suggested that this Italian bistro in Greenwich Village was worth a try. They weren’t wrong. It is reasonably priced and the food that we ordered, lasagne, was excellent as were the wine and beer. The staff were friendly and as they weren’t rushed off their feet quite chatty. If I make it back to NYC I shall surely return to La Lanterna.

We both got the three cheese lasagna, which was really good but too much cheese which I never thought I'd say. I got the caramel custard for dessert which was ok. We also got the dulce de leche gelato which was amazing. The service was attentive altho not friendly, which seems to be the norm for NYC.

Romantic restaurant with a European feel. Cozy area in front of the fireplace. Good food and desserts. Stopped in before a comedy show and were not disappointed.
Lively and Energetic
Our visit to La Lanterna di Vittoria on a Satuirday night was very enjoyable. The establishment was full and buzzing but the staff seemed very capable of handling. In particular, we appreciated the Manager showing us a couple of options for tables, which was highly unusual but welcomed. We chose downstairs as it is a little quieter than the courtyard (which looked great). The pizza was delicious. This is a busy area and there are a number of choices but La Lanterna is clearly very popular.
