I can say everything was nice and A class The please was elegant The food was tasty Just the coffee was not as what I expected

If you just want a takeaway pastry, go to the right, if you want to eat in the beautifully decorated restaurant, go to the left. We went there for breakfast because we wanted to enjoy some good coffee and had heard about the delicious pastries. The dishes aren't cheap, like everywhere else in NY, but they are large and very tasty. The service was also very nice and we really enjoyed our stay.

Worth a visit to try the viral pastries. Go early in the morning as there was no line at 9.30am! Great service and mouthwatering selection of pastries and sweet treats! Must do NYC

Good cakes in a cozy pastry shop, assortment for all tastes and even some savory dishes. How bad is the high price for the type of product.

The Lafayette Cafe & Bakery is an upscale diner and bakery was a decent salad selection for lunch. I had the tuna & anchovy salad followed by creme burlee, both were good (if expensive, even for Manhattan). Service was reasonably prompt given the lunchtime rush.

The main reason we went to this restaurant were their famous croissants. Once we came just to have those and the line was absolutely insane, around the block. There is no way I would be in line like that for food. So we happened to be in the neighborhood early in the morning and decided to have breakfast in the restaurant. Mind that the bakery is separate and they won’t serve you croissants in the restaurant. So bought them in the bakery and took them to the table. They are the best croissants in NYC for sure. Very delicate and porous . And chocolate croissants is actually filled with chocolate, not with chocolate whipped cream like everywhere else. Live them . The rest of the food that we ordered were ok. Pricey , yes

I have a weakness for a classic, authentic and upscale (sorry, if this sounds snobbish) French bistro. Unfortunately, they are harder to find, even in Manhattan. Lafayette fills all the marks, including food and service. I love the room which is a great replica of a grand bistro on the Left Bank. Service was warm, but efficient and never intrusive. We started with cocktails and even if you do not imbibe there are three cocktails without alcohol (I hate the moniker "mocktails") which gives the nondrinker access to the festivities and feeling of inclusion. For starters, we had beautifully shucked and pristinely fresh oysters, a slightly untraditional, but nonetheless delicious steak tartare, a beautifully presented frizee salad and asparagus with sauce maltaise. The prime NY strip is a wonderfully tender piece of beef for a strip. Be sure you know it comes with an au poivre sauce (excellent) which you can ask for on the side and comes sliced (which I do not like). Nonetheless, I was happy to be afforded a healthy slab from my wife's plate. The Arctic Char, halibut and the burger all met the highest bistro standards. Additional frites should be ordered for "the table". For dessert head for the profiterole, the mille-feuille or the pot de creme. Good wine list, but be prepared to loosen up your wallet. If French bistros are your thing and even if they aren't head here for a delightful evening and fine food. I love this place!

We came here for a late lunch, I knew nothing about it but my daughter did. Ok, this was the best meal during our NYC trip and who would have thought? We had lunch on the sidewalk. I ordered the duck bolognese, the waiter warned me it's made of the giblets, etc. Sure, why not. OMG, as a certified pastaholic, this might be the best pasta I've had outside of Italy ( until a few days later elsewhere). Kind of like thanksgiving only Italian and duck, not turkey. Will have to return some day and have it again. The rest of the table had fish dishes which were perfectly cooked/prepared. Then came the desserts: orange blossome creme ( unreal) and eclairs, equally delicious. What a wonderful find/surprise.

Come to drip the famous rolls. Excellent and hearty! Award correct. Friendly staff, a few tables outside to settle in. Very nice setting

We celebrated my son's wedding reception dinner. The food was good especially the sea food offerings.

We went here especially for the pistachio croissant and were not disappointed. This one was fantastic. The prices were not cheap, but well worth the trip.

Great service, they certainly know what they are doing from seating to recommendations to quality of food. We had pancakes, house cured bacon and sausage and an omelette between the two of us. Excellent cappuccino and coffee....lots of other choices on the menu and a pastry shop in house as well. You pay for this of course but it didn't break the bank. The decor and atmosphere is classic and warm. I would highly recommend.

I went to Lafayette two nights in a row to celebrate two important birthdays... my Mom's and a dear friend. The food was delicious and the outside atmosphere is lovely and inviting. If you want 10.0 nicoise spaghetti, fondue, chocolate mouse and more, come to Lafayette. What is most remarkable is the incredible staff.... from the host, to the waiters, bussers, manager and somm. They were happy to be there, positive, overly hospitable and utmost professional. The waiters wetter knowledgeable about the food and wine and were there to be sure we had a great time. An amazing dining experience all around. I've enjoyed Lafayette many times for brunch and dinner and will continue to have this spot on the top of my list! Well done!

The breakfast was good but not special. Not good value for the money. The service was not very polite, in addition the bakery is separate so for bakery products we had to cue and bring to our table (it doesn’t have sense to me)

Excellent dinner at reasonable prices. Great selection of French wines at reasonable prices. Will definitely return.

The cafe looks amazing, really classy, inside is a little bakery to order to go, we ordered the viral pistachio and the chocolate round croissants. The topping was amazing on both, but the inside was different and not as nice, more like a floored custard, the actual croissant was delicious, overall good but not great

To start We had the beets with walnuts and also the beef tartare. Followed by steak and chips and duck bolognese. We were not disappointed ..and we would definitely eat here again.

Product to discover but accessed to review. We took ny rolls passion and pistachio (11$50 piece without tips) The 2 very good but the staff is unpleasant and expeditious.

A friend reserved a table of 6 for us at 1:30pm. Def the way to go. We stayed for 2hours and 15 mins, did not feel rushed. Delicious jambon cru baguette and good fries too! Little pricy, but NYC always is. Great atmosphere and nice bathrooms. Always refilled my water. Will come back!

Fantastic place, great food, great service 👍 I recommend the oysters, one of the best I have never tested. The bread and butter is super good too.

Large place, high ceiling, nicely decorated, chef's restaurant and bakery.High quality fresh products and fresh variety of breads. Very good service.

I loved the pistachio croissant. I had read about it and it is delicious. Coffee too. The price didn't scare me because I had previously read how much things cost there.

Stumbled upon this doing Holiday shopping, and with the snow starting to fall, what better way to stay warm than with French Onion Soup. This is unique as it contains beef shank!! Great service.

We came to NYC for an engagement weekend for my son. He made reservations for brunch because of the delicious French pastries. (my favorite) It is very hard to get great Parisian quality pastries in the US... and Lafayette hit that mark! They were deliciousness! Flaky, soft, and crispy.... on outside! The butter and jam were exceptional also! We were pleasantly surprised and loved the restaurant. Our server, Kate, was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Once she heard that we were there for an engagement, she gushed over the diamond ring, popped open a bottle of prosecco for a toast, and brought out a celebratory flaming cake with ice cream samples. It was a lovely brunch and set the mood of the weekend! The decor was perfect. I do wish we could have ordered some pastries to go instead of having to stand in the long line to purchase. Overall, a perfect restaurant. Will definitely be returning when we visit NYC again!

We have made Lafayette a must for brunch on our last few trips to NYC. Upon arrive you will find a perfectly appointed French Bistro. The menu is not large but has good variety. The pastries are beautiful and taste just as good. The pastry basket is a must for parties of 4 and more. Great to share. Because it was just my daughter and me this time,we opted for pastry from the a la carte section. Perfectly dressed salad, and creamy scrambled eggs were our choices. Past visits have included amazing french toast, omlettes and smoked salmon. Make a reservation. You will not be disappointed.

Most of the dishes were disappointing. The salads were fair. The bagel was not so good. The iced coffee average. I really liked the lemon pancakes with berries and the place is beautiful. The pastries look great.

My best friend and I had brunch at Lafayette on a Saturday morning. It had been on my list of things to do for quite awhile and whilst there were some issues it didn’t disappoint. I ordered the granola and croissant in my friend had a hot breakfast. I had wanted to order one of their famous round croissants however the bakery is separate from the restaurant and there is only a limited patisserie option within the restaurant which is disappointing. The waitress also got my friends order completely wrong and whilst they resolved this by subsequently providing her with the correct order, it did mean that we waited around 45 minutes for breakfast. They resolve this by not charging us for him at all, which was appreciated.

Don't waste your time or money (depending on the location of your lodging), lots of advertising and very little delivery! We arrived and we could not order a coffee with a candy from the confectionery because the tables were only for those who would consume a brunch. So as my nora (influenced by the influencers of Tik Tok) wanted to try the candy, we accepted to take an espresso standing! On a micro counter, my husband wanted a sandwich but it would take 20 minutes to get ready! So we opted for an egg sandwich, which came the most disgusting thing anyone can imagine! Like they hit everything and came a square like a jelly inside the bread! Oh, bad! To receive a star I take into account the decoration and the artificial beauty of the candy. No cordial attention from the reception and no attention from the counter! Go to a starbucks you will feed well with nice service!

This place is so well rounded that I would comfortably recommend it for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Breakfast can easily be quick and to go or stay and enjoy. Dinner offers a nice menu variety for all palates and the cocktails are perfect. I would recommend this for groups, couples and even solo. It never disappoints.

Opportunity presented itself last night and we walked into Lafayette unannounced. A very pleasant front desk -check. Service was a bit slow, but given the 9pm hour and the full capacity on the ouside deck, it may be tollerated. The menu is somewhat limited which is explained in the web pages of the place as a homage to certain regions of France - ok, I guess. A glass of Rose Chataux Pradeaux is $19? Hm. This wine is a 30 dollar bottle that the restaurant sell for 76 or something along those lines. Serious? Please understand, this is a very nice, pleasant wine, but give me a break! Goat Cheese Agnolotti were not bad, but does not justify 29 dollars for 6 pieces. Oxtail Bourguignon Ravioli order was mixed up with something else and had to be sent back. The Oxtail came late. A bit on a heavy side and yet again, 31 dollars for a portion I could easily just inhale. Home grown bread was also good but not good enuf. The butter that came with the bread was very creamy and slightly salted. Nice. We opted for a light desert and split the 3 scoop ice cream, three flavors. Only one the Toasted Almond is worth mentioning. Good place to hang with friends, provided you agree with the current pricing and dish quality.

Ate lunch here after being referred by a restaurateur from another restaurant, and she was correct - we were not disappointed. I had the Nicoise Salad, which was unusual and delicious. The salad had both canned tuna and fresh seared tuna, along with green and white beans, potato, quail eggs, and fresh greens with a lovely dressing. My husband ordered the ground beef tartare. It was seasoned beautifully and served with nice bread slices toasted. The food was great and the restaurant enjoyable. We will definitely go there again... probably on this trip. The menu has on it many of our favorite French foods done well- reason enough to go back.

Refined but easy atmosphere - not stuffy . Delicious food . Prompt and friendly service. Chris was particularly good - an aspiring writer . Convenient location

The place is ok - the brunch menu is kind of very simple and wouldn’t say is amazing, but not horrible at the same time. Service is ok - wasn’t really a busy time but nevertheless would take you awhile to get attention. Big plus is space and amount of big tables that could fit 6-8 people and more. Overall 4 is well deserved

Solo for the weekend, and wandering around NoHo (to be honest, I missed my subway stop), and stumbled upon the Cafe. What a wonderful surprise!! I sat at the bar, enjoyed a Trois Bien cocktail and ordered the Ricotta Angolotti entree - it was phenomenal! The flavors were multi-layered, and played wonderfully together - rich yet light sauce, olives with squash, just an incredibly well constructed dish. The bartender paired it with a Vouvray / Chanin Blanc that was delightful. What a treat - excellent kitchen, superb staff - I’ll be back. Mangia!

Lafayette is a traditional spot in the West Village and fine for a casual brunch. The food is as expected—good but nothing outstanding. Our experience was dampened by the waitress’s poor attitude toward our large table, which made the meal less enjoyable than it could have been.

A few months ago, in Barcelona, everybody started talking about a local bakery that sells the new trending pastry in NYC: a round croissant filled with pistachio. I have never had the opportunity to try it out and, to be honest, that does not sound too appealing to me: in my opinion, a croissant must be shaped like a 🌙 and, most of all, it must be plain! (or it’s a cornetto…) But again, when we arrived in NYC, we didn't know anything about the city anymore, so we checked on the Internet. I looked for salty food and my wife looked for sweets (well, I did look for ice creams and doughnuts myself, to be fair) and she found Lafayette, the original “inventor” of this round pastry (they call it Suprême, btw, but it’s… a croissant). First, we had to queue (under the rain!) for about 20 minutes to get inside just to order to go... While we were queuing, we could see through the Windows all the "content creators" inside showing a camera how much they were enjoying their Suprême: sad. Once inside, I was amazed by... the darkness of the venue. I couldn't even see what I was ordering. Honestly, I knew what I was coming for, otherwise, I couldn't have known what to order... they don't want us to see what we eat? That's a shame because, when I got used to the darkness, I could guess that the venue actually looked very nice. I sincerely don't know why they don't turn the light on. So the clerk at the counter told us about the 4 flavors available that day and we picked pistachio and the seasonal: Suprême de Noël. I must say that the pistachio Suprême was very good, at least the half where there was cream. The other half was just like a regular croissant, a good one but nothing from another world either. The Suprême de Noël was not that good, the cream was too thick, I guess to make it seem like an actual "bûche" but that didn't fit the Suprême so much. Don't get me wrong, it was not bad, but for $10 a piece and a 20-minute rainy line, I expected way more. I would trade this for a good croissant or a pistachio cornetto anytime. Quality & taste: 7/10 Quantities: 9/10 Atmosphere: 5/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 2/10 Service: 1/10 How I felt afterwards: 3/10

We were celebrating an engagement. Much fun when the cake with sparklers were brought to the table! The food was superb. The service excellent. This restaurant is truly a gem! The outdoor seating is lovely. The indoor seating is gorgeous especially in the evenings. I miss the bakery!

Lafayette boasts the best pistachio-filled croissant in all of NYC. A culinary gem where each flaky bite is a delightful journey into pistachio perfection. Don't miss out on this exceptional pastry experience.

I stopped in the bakery to get a morning pastry. As I was paying, I asked for a cup of water (to accompany my purchase) and they told me that you can only buy water and refused to give me a cup of tap water.

We saw the Supreme's appointment by Tik Tok. At first, we thought it wasn't too much. We put as point of interest, but without great expectations to go. On a very cold day, with a fine garoa, we passed and saw that we were close and decided to give a chance. We didn't regret it. We stayed in line waiting for the fork to leave. Out at a certain time, a number of supremes and you can wait in queue without guaranteeing one. We ordered 2, despite the size, being one of pistachio and another of Christmas buche (remembered something with cinnamon) Sweet pasta, well foliated, with generous filling, creamy and sweet in measure (not very sweet and unpleasant) It was very worth it, including staying in line in the cold December! I recommend the experience, even more accompanied by a very hot coffee. Every time I go to New York I go Lafayette. Starting with the service, the food, the atmosphere... all amazing. The lunch menu always have a difference taste to know A place not to be missed

Food okay, staff including manager absolutely sucks. Nasty and disinterested. They have a croissant nazi to ensure as a paying customer (3 of us over 500 for lunch) you aren’t allowed to order the specialty bakery croissants that tourists are queueing up for. They apparently aren’t on menu and you can’t just go and pay. The manager told us they don’t put them on menu for the people that actually make reservations and dine there because they have been called ‘elitist’ and want to prevent people from making reservations to eat the croissants. This was the most moronic discussion have ever had. As a local will just not be gong back ever so I think it’s a very stupid business decision. Didnt do anything for us to address/make it right.

Cant believe its not more highly rated. Absolutely beautiful setting and ambiance. Really magnificent. Service was excellent and the menu was nice (especially the breads and pastries-got a basket and two bags to go) On a lovely day, I couldn’t imagine anything better.

Grabbed a late and light dinner here recently. We were looking for a last minute reservation on a Sunday and snagged a table outside. Large space, easy for groups. Food is good but not amazing. Solid. Nice decor.

I was working in the area and not familiar with what establishments were around. I walked a block or two and this café came into sight. I went in and ordered a ham and cheese omelet on a roll. I watched as they prepared my eggs. Delivered my hot sandwich to me and off I went to the cashier who prepared my coffee. An area with chairs and tables available to dine in if you don't want to take it to go. Looks like a great place for breakfast or lunch. I'll be back when in the area.

The menu was very good. Our table had croissants, the lemon pancakes, eggs were fabulous as well as the pommes de rotisserie. They were Amazing!! The staff all see to your table so you are not left waiting for refills, etc.

Had never been but was looking for a place near the Public theater and it was recommended by one of their staff. First impression was fine but when it came time to order it was all downhill. The service was extremely slow and spotty considering that it wasn’t particularly crowded and we did say we had theater tickets. Prices were a bit steep for what we ordered and when our entree didn’t arrive and we asked for the bill it was presented in full. I will say that the manager was very gracious when I explained the problem. Will not return

Had a "victory" lunch here after giving our first presentation at nearby NYU and was so happy to have found this beautiful bistro. It was like being in Paris only better! Wait staff was wonderful, food was sensational! Their "chicken salad" was just freaking crazy awesome good! It was rotisserie chicken, cut (bone still on) on top of lettuce on a little bed of yogurt and softened nuts. We could not stop eating it! They made a great croque monsieur with delectable bechamel sauce. Many beautiful desserts to choose from as well. Will definitely be going back. Caution: lunch was around $140 with the above, two desserts, a flat water, two coffees and the escargot! Definitely a victor celebration place! P.S. we did buy a few popyseed scones to bring back home with us and they were surprisingly bland so maybe stick to one of their other desserts.

Whether you're here in summer at the outdoor street terrace, or having some hearty French comfort foot on a chilly winter's day, Lafayette never disappoints. The food is consistently good and always satisfying. Also, love the private room downstairs. And they have canelés, one of the few places in NYC to find these delicacies. The seafood plateau is excellent as are the fresh pastas and roast chicken. Tables are a little tight, but this comes with bistro ambiance.

Lovely restaurant which we visited before we saw Blue Man Group. We had limited time so three of us had entrees and one just had dessert. All were amazing and service was wonderful. Would like to go back for another meal when we aren’t so rushed.

I ate at Lafayette Grand Cafe when it first opened and enjoyed it very much. I took my sister there October 27 for her birthday and was very disappointed. The sommelier recommended a delicious Raimbault from Sancerre. The meat entrees were repetitive and lacked Gallic culinary imagination. There wasn't even a lamb choice. The onion soup lacked taste and body. The six little neck clams were chilled properly but gritty and sub-standard size. The tuna tartare nicoise was not chilled, tasteless and the portion under par. The strip steak portion was also under par and took effort to cut. The remaining three quarters of the plate were filled with tasteless, soft pommes frites. Less potatoes and a vegetable would be better menu planning. The bass bouillabaisse was in a tasty sauce but the fish fillet lacked freshness. The dessert menu was less than inspired. This was not a "Grand" celebration.

We visited after an early evening show - three adults, a teenager and a seven year old, and felt very welcome. The youngsters were pleased to get the food they ordered (rare steak!) without any queries, and they were beautifully cooked. My duck, duck, duck pasta was okay but my husband loved his onion soup and scallops. Service was good and fast and, as we were in Central New York, the high prices were unavoidable. Smart and noisy which many are very happy with.

Not worth the detour to New York to taste this supreme pain au chocolat!!! Apart from the puff pastry which was excellent the filling was too imposing and even cloying perhaps a praline could have brought roundness to the dessert. No French manners!!!! Without a reservation for brunch you have to enjoy your pastries and your cappuccino standing near the cash register so you are constantly jostled at each checkout. Everything is written in French but no staff speaks French. Don't expect a hello from them because the only goal is for you to leave quickly and of course if you have a pressing desire to go to the toilet without reservation you don't have access. So it’s not an “infinitely sweet” experience. What a disappointment!!!

Every time I am in NYC....this warm and sweet spot is to be visited....Warm cider smell was a thanksgiving and christmas signal....makes you feel.the joy....just go....

We sat outside and were lucky enough to have great weather for a candelit meal. Service was excellent. Food great and the inside looked lively and fun. Would definitely go back.

I had bad luck. When I went to try the special croissants they were sold out. If you really want to try these pistachio croissants, you must be there 30 minutes before the opining and 30 minutes before the “remaking” of the croissant at 12 (I think they do that at 12) These are so famous that they are sold out in 1 hour. Now, I had the bad luck to be there when the croissants were sold out BUT I tried the best option to eat there if the croissant is gone. I tried the CHOCOLATE BABKA. just try it. It is reeeeeally good. It’s like a mix of cake and brownie with a top of croissant dough. It is amazing. Also it has a little bit of salt. That detail is amazing. CHOCOLATE BABKA IS THE BEAT OPTION after the croissant

Went to this Delicious French Restaurant for lunch! Service was seriously excellent. Waiter most knowledgeable and professional. Food was just perfect. Atmosphere cheery and bright and quiet and lovely. Somebody knows how to cook here and they served my favorite French hard cider. Can’t wait to go back. Thank you !!!

Very trendy bakery in NY, but (I don't know why, but the "but" fits) extremely classic, complete with important table linens and professional service... not that it's a problem, on the contrary, but I was expecting something different , considered the "trend"... Having said that, we had a classic breakfast, Italian (or French, as you prefer): cappuccino and large basket of croissants, bread and jam. Well... nothing to say... the "trend" lies in the great quality, as well as in the very generous size of the croissants: a high level breakfast! All in all, an acceptable price: truly remarkable, not very original, but remarkable.

Perfect place for a Sunday Brunch. Very good brunch selection: from Salmon and eggs Benedict to Croque Madame with eggs and ham up to Burger brisket. Friendly atmosphere and excellent service. Feel like a New Yorker on a Sunday 👍

This classic French bistro is magnificent on every level. Stylish atmosphere, great linens and tableware, perfect bread, delicious food and impeccable service that defies the stereotype of the snooty French server. The 3-course prix fixe lunch menu is a fantastic deal that will leave you happy and satisfied for the entire day. And no one does a bistro steak à point better than this!!

Absolutely would not return this is false advertising. I came for breakfast. Terrible service with a very bad attitude. The food is low quality for the price, the coffee too expensive for flavor, quality and quantity. Be careful this is just a name. I didn't try the pastries after the breakfast experience, I didn't want to continue spending my money, there being so many places of excellent quality and very good service. The truth is that the waiters lack training in customer service and being more gentle. I don't recommend this place at all

We went fancy that day. You know it's gonna be good when the chefs speak French Our flight arrived early so we had to get a good breakfast. Lafayette was a delight. It's undoubtedly our splurge for the day. Had to try the pistachio supreme pastry, too. We were fortunate they had plenty as I heard these usually sell out quickly. Food was top notch, and so was the service. We were there at a good time as there wasn't any line on a Friday brunch period.

Perfect evening dining outside, despite the unavoidable street noise. We’ve been several times and thrilled to see the highest level of service, amazing food and charming ambiance continue. We started with 6 very good and we’ll prepared oysters and huge succulent shrimp with drinks and a bottle of crisp rose and moved on to an eclectic table of burgers, chicken, striped bass and moules frites and a lovely bottle of red. We also ordered two servings of the bread with the creamiest salted butter. We ended with Mille fieulle, lemon sorbet (comes with the most delicious butter cookie!) and the profiteroles. Everything was great but I’d say the standouts were the frites, that came with the burgers and the mussels, and the burgers, themselves. They surprised my husband with a fun birthday ‘cake’ with a shooting candle for his birthday. Our server was particularly friendly and made the whole experience even better. It’s worth the money for a special evening.

We have been living in NYC for a long time and can get set in our ways for where we like to go out to eat. I am so glad we tried Lafayette for the first time because I know we’ll be going back. The service was friendly but not pushy in the least, and they gave us plenty of time to enjoy our pre-dinner drinks and then our meal. The food was out of this world. I had the Moroccan-spiced duck dish and relished each and every bite. I could not get enough of the sauce which was very flavorful without overwhelming the dish at all. Another in our party had the brisket beef burger which looked juicy and delectable, and one more had the oxbow tail ravioli - a rich new take on a classic dish. Dessert was a mousse/ice cream coupe that had just the right combination of sweetness and flavors, again without being too much. All in all, we could not have been more pleased and I can’t wait to go back. If you’re visiting NYC, this restaurant is very near the Public Theater so would make a great pre-theater spot and you’re bound to have a great night out in the big city!

Thankful we were accommodated with a table for four last minute (without a reservation) on a Friday night before the NYC Marathon. What were we thinking??? What an amazing evening. From the crispy Foie Gras and Beet Salad Apps to the incredible entrees: Butternut Squash Ravioli, Seared Scallops and more... The lively, jovial and festive vibe combined with the simply superb dining experience has me wanting to go back for my birthday!!!! p.s. The staff were above and beyond gracious and accommodating when we experienced a few mishaps. Thank you! Be well always, Lipstick Warriors 💋

We ate as a family of 4 on Sunday midday having booked. (they messaged twice to ask for confirmation, but we still had to wait a short while). Ate a mixture of grilled tuna salad, kale salad, endive salad and shakushka; all around $25-30 which seems a lot for greens, but that's just New York I suppose. But all were very fresh, looked good and tasted good. Cold brew coffee was powerful too.

Came here for Thanksgiving and so glad that we did! Almost everything was spot on on. They did a great job with turkey, and we also tried the duck and the Artic char. All were very tasty. Oh, also tried the French onion soup and it was wonderful! The sauteed Foie Gras was done up in a very seasonal way, with maple syrup as the sweet accompaniment. Only thing I didn't like was that it was room temperature, as if it was made in advance and sitting around. They very busy, but smooth with the service. It was a tad noisy and somewhat cramped, but overall a nice place. Very good value to, large portion sizes. Would like to come back for a "normal" dinner sometime.

Brunch here was a tray and I can’t imagine how it could have been better. Our corner table indoors was lovely for 4. The menu offered so many choices for everyone - including the non-meat eater who loved the Smoked Salmon Benedict on a bed of frisée with toasted Brioche on the side. The oatmeal was stunning as was the fruit plate. House Coffee was great and our server never let our cups go empty. Service was PERFECT! Everything was impressive and I haven’t even started on the pastries. I will definitely go back and recommend to everyone.

I had brunch here and ate outside. I've been a few times and have not eaten indoors, though it looks beautiful. The brunch options were wonderful and the coffee excellent. I highly recommend the lemon blueberry pancakes and bacon maison.

Excellent stop throughout the afternoon to rest. We tried their excellent pistachio croissant and some coffees. On my next visit I would like to try the food..I will be back!

Went here for brunch with a friend. I loved the setting and interieur, the atmosphere is super relaxed, very French. The service is very alert and super quick in taking orders. When it comes to the food I can confirm it’s absoluetly tasty and wonderful. From the bakery to eggs benedict- we enjoyed every single bite! Coffee was good too, very good almond milk!

Went here for the first time today and absolutely loved it! The service was amazing and the staff were super friendly. The salmon gravalax eggs benedict was delicious. If I didn’t live in the UK I’d definitely be coming back. 100% recommend

My husband and I were hungry but it wasn't quite dinner time as we found ourselves in front of this French restaurant. We were warmly received, the place was already packed, and we chose from a smaller menu which offered just enough for us. I had a beet salad and a side of French fries (a huge side, I have to say). My husband had a soup a l'ognion. All was delicious and the French fries were amazing. We had a comfortable table, facing the inside of the restaurant. I felt like I was in France. Loved it. Highly recommend!

We loved this restaurant. It had a great menu. The food was delicious. We had the escargot and the beet salad for appetizers. Both were very tasty. Also, we had the aged dried sirloin which was so good. Done just right, medium rare. The wait staff was wonderful. They were very attentive and even folded your napkin when you left to go to the restroom. It was a wonderful experience and we would definitely go back there again.

We had a wonderful experience at Lafayette, starting with the service, the cocktails, dinner and dessert. The decor and ambience takes you to France where you can enjoy French cooking at it's best in NYC. Because the menu contains seasonal items I will not enumerate specific items we enjoyed and you will also. Try Lafayette Grand Cafe and enjoy Bon Appetit!!

I would give four stars But. We sat outside on a hot and sunny day that was beautiful. The service we received from our main server was awful. He never looked at us while speaking, he never offered to tell us anything other than what we asked about. He never came back to ask us if the food was to our liking or if we wanted anything else at any point really neither of the people walking around us did. We had to stop someone to ask for more to drink. Mind you our main server was just walking back and fourth behind us. Lastly you can’t order from the bakery YOU MUST STAND ONLINE OUTSIDE the restursnt even though you’re dinning in. This is truly awful. I don’t think I’m asking too much a nicer server and not having to stand out side after just eating in the restursnt for something from the bakery. I’m sure many people love it here for the bakery and ambience. But I’ll have to think about. 7-15-2023

Service was horrible. Spilled food. Didn’t ask about coffee refills when visiting the table - even when we asked, and called out as he walked away. Had to ask for saucers (ie “plates?”) repeatedly. (We shouldnt even have to had to ask. It was obvious we needed them.) Worst was i told in advance there was a birthday and the concierge confirmed they knew. As the meal ended, I asked the server if there were desserts available (hint hint) and the server said “no” as he walked away from our table returning with the check. I heard “happy birthday” sung to others and saw the server carrying a “cake” to another table. ? We came all the way from Pennsylvania just to have a birthday brunch with our loved one. Disappointed Wow.

We booked this restaurant as we had an early curtain at the nearby Public Theater. And we are glad we did - we told our server Katy that we were in a hurry and she took care of quickly and we made our show with plenty of time to spare. The mustard beurre blanc sauce that came with the salmon was so delicious! The brisket burger was also absolutely fabulous! We can't wait for our next visit!

The croissant is bad, tasteless. There is no place for everyone to sit and they hold people in line outside the establishment on purpose. It's not worth the price nor is it tasty. It's only used to take a photo of the croissant for Instagram...

Had dinner at Lafayette last night. Very good service. The food was outstanding. Highly recommend. Lovey interior.

I can’t a visit to this place every time I come to the City. The brunch on Sunday morning is not to be missed. The service is wonderful and the taste incredible. Don’t forget to take bread home!

Was there for brunch. Very busy and reservation recommended. Enjoyed the meal with an excellent rose wine suggested by the waiter. Our group ordered eggs, a burger and pancakes and each dish was above par. Service was also good.

We loved the expansive dining area, attentive staff and most of all the delicious food! My evening meal included a starter and a main that were quite simply among the best food I have tasted in a restaurant. Both the baby beet salad and oxtail ravioli tasted exquisite and melted in the mouth. Great buzzy atmosphere, lovely staff. It was our birthday and we got sparklers and birthday macaroons with our coffee! I would say it is informal but still a place to dress up for - so half way between mid-range and fine dining.

Lafayette offers exceptional service, food, and ambiance. She loves the risotto and the frisee salad. I love the steak and the french onion soup. But we both love the fries! Cannot go wrong.

What a breakfast! A little pricey, but well worth it. We got the basket of pastries and 2 of us got the French omelet, one got the lemon pancakes with fresh berries and one got the scramble with truffle. All were delicious! Ands the coffee was outstanding!

Restsurant is quite large and located on a busy street. The noise level is a bit high and you want to be near a window to view the scene around . Found that their oxtail ravioli was wonderful. Service is a bit confusing but effective. It was enjoyable but at a higher price point. Than I think it deserved. Very serviceable however.

Total BS and an example of a business that thinks about themselves first and the customers second. Made a reservation and they made us go outside…. no mention of that possibility when we made the reservation on OpenTable. And it’s freezing outside. The only reason we stayed is because my family didn’t want to go somewhere else. Hope the food is good. I promise I will never come back. Your loss, Lafayette.

We dined in February 2021 for my birthday. The plus - it was lovely to be able to celebrate my big birthday dining out with my family of four. Lovely service. The not so good - hugely overpriced for the type of food, the hot apple cider was hot too sweet apple juice served in copper cups that burnt your mouth. The extra $100 added to the bill for the greenhouse was a nasty surprise on top of the set $150 per head dinner plus tax plus tip. A smidge under $1000 dollars for dinner for two adults and two teenage children with not more than four drinks!

We had two terrible dishes - the fondue and steak tartare. After we told the waiter the potatoes in the fondue were cold, the manager came over and offered to treat us to a side order of warm potatoes. we thanked her and declined. She then offered more wine, which we accepted. It never came.

We perennially reserve for 8-10 people for dinner so this definitely poses a service challenge. It is met professionally every time with the finest level of customer care and attention. Every culinary taste---vegetarians, pescatarians, etc.--- is met with their variety of menu offerings and the chef is first-rate. A variety of menu choices and quality service make it a great place for holiday meals. Not to be missed!

Lafayette is large but with high ceilings do it isn’t noisy. Sunday late brunch was delicious- we all had salads and the burger- not to be missed! A Roman candle appeared as a birthday celebration. Wonderful servers, prompt service.

We had dinner at Lafayette recently for an amazing musical event. We enjoyed everything but about it, but especially the wonderful service, especially the welcome and friendly, gracious attention of Stella. I'm not sure what her job at the restaurant is, but she went way beyond the call of duty. In all it was a fabulous event! Dinner was delicious too!

Every time I eat here I can't wait to come back again. Not only is the food delicious but the service is always warm, friendly and very accommodating. I generally eat here at off hours, early Sunday dinners. All their dishes are wonderful but you can't beat their bread, burgers, fries and wines by the glass. Don't forget to buy a loaf of their bread in the bakery at the restaurant.

This is a great french bistro that was booked by the concierge at the hotel we were staying. It's a casual dinner menu, that has something for everyone. The beef tartare and east coast oysters were delicious! I also recommend the dry aged duck it's a pretty nice portion that was cooked perfectly! Do get the black forest profiterole and strawberry mille-feuille! So yummy!!! Bon Apetit!

as regular Public theatre goers we are regulars at Lafayette! love the menu and how nuanced the food is. Oysters, yes! Gem lettuce salad! recommend sharing.. New item on menu was delicious Arctic char with lentils ++ Option to have anything from their amazing bakery and recommend their signature cookies, terrific service, lovely wine list and just a great vibe. PS: fabulous bread

Friendly, on point and great oysters, visited the spot whilst on business and very much enjoyed the experience, the barman was very friendly to allow me to sample the wines before deciding, the waiter was very polite and made some good recommendations, will be back soon.

I hadn't been back to Lafayette in a few years so I was particularly pleased to see that they had kept up their high standards. There is no longer a bakery or Cafe due to Covid, but there are the standard bistro dishes, the Rotisserie Chicken Provençale, fingerling potatoes, jus naturel, the Burger, Onion Soup, Escargot, among other standard dishes. All good, all flavorful, and all well prepared. Service is good too. Wine by the glass is reasonable. Some good wines for $15 a glass. Nice atmosphere. a crowd pleaser.

Unless you are prepared to spend $100 per person, do not eat here. You might get by with less, but if you expect to eat at an upscale NYC restaurant, just pay the money and enjoy the experience. Here, you get what you pay for. I had French Onion sour ($22) plus Halibut ($45), plus wine and bread. The $6 for bread and butter is the best $6 you'll ever spend in a restaurant. I think the clientele was mostly locals, except for one table of Navy officers in for Fleet Week. Location is off the beaten path, a couple of blocks east of NYU.

The food at Lafatyette is delicious and the ambiance is classy and sophisticated. The staff are friendly and efficient. I am looking forward to visiting Lafayette again!

Great food. 100% French. Great wine, thanks Chris for your wine selections. Service was just right, attentive and professional but no snobbery. We have eaten here before and it will always be on the list of restaurants to return to whenever we are in town.

Today a friend and I stopped by for coffee and dessert. I was eager to try the chocolate, coconut, banana, croissant and the butterscotch/coffee éclair. And for the record, neither pastry disappointed me. As a matter of fact, they will be my go pasty items upon my next visit. I would also recommend the macaroons because you will have the opportunity to try flavors that you wouldn't ordinarily see, flavors such as, birthday cake, vanilla rhum and" the Lafayette". We will definitely return for a sit down dinner. I'm confident that it will be equally rewarding.

They invented the new york roll and what do you do you don't try it on? Honestly it did not leave me speechless and I would not return, the tastes were 3, triple chocolate, peach and pistachio. I took the pistachio one but I found it a bit off, in Italy I ate pistachio creams much better. For $11 and 70 taxes included I expected better. L 'environment is very nice and the staff is friendly.

We queued for the bakery after seeing the croissants on TikTok, along with most of the other people in the queue!! It didn’t take too long to get in, around 20 minutes, we had a pistachio and an eggnog croissant and they were delicious!! I couldn’t manage all the filling but it was delicious!

The place itself is gorgeous but intimate in feel despite being very large. Its a bit pretentious in its "Frenchness" but that is part of its charm. Just don't take it too seriously. Well worth the pretentiousness and pricey offerings. Our waiter was exceptionally attentive and the service was really perfect, absolutely present yet unobtrusive. I was there with my wife and daughter and we all went simple with burgers. We started with the 7 cheese course. We were all starving as we were having a very late lunch. This was an outstanding choice as all 7 cheeses were excellent with a fabulous Brillat-Savarin as the best with their super crusty raisin bread that was so good we took some home with us. In the middle of the burger preparation we changed to no bun/no fries/salad please and no bun but fries for another and bun and fries for the last. No problem and all came perfectly cooked, two medium and one medium rare and they were perfect. I asked for mayo on the side but ate my bunless burger without touching a condiment! It was so juicy and perfectly balanced with Comte cheese, onions grilled with a bit of toothsomeness remaining, pepper and brisket blend of ground beef with a perfect char on the outside and rosy pink all the way through. Tiny gherkins on the side. I love burgers and have them a lot as they are everywhere now but rarely am I so impressed that I can say this was Miles better than my own organic grass fed burgers with a supremely careful balance of all elements. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BURGER EVER! WE ALL AGREED. We had dessert as well. Some pink, round confection that was forgettable but the hazelnut and chocolate cake was perfect. Great meal that we strolled onto without a reservation but were graciously accommodated by the excellent staff.

Matinee was over at 3. Where to dine in area at this odd hour? Apres Midi menu is served at Lafayette. Delicious burger. Tables far enough away from each other so noise level was ok

While I don't give credit to the restaurant for the weather, the outdoor seating on a pleasantly warm spring morning certainly enhanced the experience. Service was prompt and professional. The brunch menu features both healthy, calorie-conscious choices (yogurt, fresh fruit, etc.) and decadent, yummy choices that will force you to spend hours in the gym to make up for it (pancakes, french toast with ice cream, etc.). I went the middle road with an omelette that featured some really delicious tomatoes. The latte was smooth and with good body and I could not resist the temptation to munch down an almond croissant. Best I have had in a long time. This place has character, style and commensurate prices. I will be back for more next time in NYC.

We were pass-Byers and thought we’d have tea and give our tiresome legs a rest. The place is beautiful, clean and reasonably priced. The teas were great. However, they fell below par on hospitality. Given that the restaurant’s concept is french I would have expected a table service than a self service for tea/coffees. They didn’t even have trays to carry the patisserie to the table so I had to make 3 trips. The servers didn’t offer to assist either. The macaroon’s texture wasn’t good but tasted well. The ferra-Roche chocolate was good and had an authentic taste. This restaurant can do better if they provide a better service and perhaps improve on the classic french sweet, macaroon!

Our family had a lovely, delicious, festive Christmas Eve feast at Lafayette. Starting with the bread and cheese selection, all of the salads (my faves were the endive salad and the beet salad), the entrees were delicious, and the dessert! Mousse au Chocolat, fabulous. All the staff was super friendly, the timing of the service was impeccable. Thank you for a lovely and memorable Christmas!

We were celebrating our Mother's Birthday and Mother's day and decided on Lafayette for dinner. The restaurant is a beautiful setting and perfect for larger parties of 6 or more. Plenty of seating, the atmosphere was vibrant, and the food was the star of the show. Highly suggest getting the Escargot appetizer and Duck for dinner. Could not get enough of it, that I finished my wife's plate too!

Prior to a Saturday 1 PM performance at the Public Theatre, at the recommendation of both my daughter who has eaten here on several occasions and the Public Theatre, my wife and I stopped for a quick lunch. Without a reservation, we had the option of sitting either across from the bar or at the bar and chose the bar. Service from Antonio was superb and our brunch selections excellent. My wife had the croque madame and I had the benedict which had an enormous amount of gravlax included. My wife’s selection came with delicious thin French fries that we shared and still didn’t get to finish due to the large size portion. Although the prices did initially seem to be on the high side, the food quality and portion size made the cost well worthwhile.

This is our second time here. I think I liked it even more. The menu is French with a good bit of variety. This is just an awesome place for brunch. It gets busy so book in advance.

Landed for lunch, very large cozy room in style. Let’s start with excellent butter to spread on an equally excellent artisan bread. I order an onion soup, it's a French bakery and restaurant, I get the single soup bowl (enough for two people of medium appetite) with a really good soup. Meat broth, meat onions croutons and cheese as a rule commands! I did not eat anything else, but on the way out I bought a choice of brioche made from their oven also delicious. Price cheaper than I expected

Love the ambiance, the wait staff was fantastic and our brunch kept us going all day. Can't wait to return to NYC and go back. This restaurant will be a nice brunch tradition for us.

Traditional french fare. Was a good deal for restaurant week otherwise seems pretty pricey. $17 for 1 sample of cheese is a bit deep.

I have been here several times, as it is just down the block from my office. Each time has been for a business lunch. I likely would not go here for a lunch on my own just because it is expensive($28 for a chicken leg over salad, $24 for a burger, etc.). That being said, everything I've eaten there has been delicious. They have a lot of excellent pasta and seafood dishes. The risotto basquaise is my absolute favorite. The black macaroni is great too. Not to mention the fabulous bakery. Sometimes we'll just pop in for a jumbo chocolate chip cookie. To summarize, excellent for a business lunch or for wealthier folk, but could find better prices for the more basic lunch items elsewhere.

My son took his girlfriend to NYC for the weekend to propose to her. I was in the City on business and took them to Lafayette for breakfast on Saturday morning to celebrate their engagement. The cafe is very popular for Saturday morning breakfast so be sure to book a reservation ahead of time. Service is very good, always polite, but very efficient. And...the food is even better. We had the Granola Madison w/ yogurt & mixed berries, the lemon pancakes with fresh berries, and the soft scrambled eggs w/ leeks & truffle shavings. Garlic sausage, cappuccinos and blood orange & grapefruit juice. Breakfast at Lafayette is Awesome and highly recommended for a lazy Saturday morning! Cost is about $36.00 per person. Enjoy!

The atmosphere is great - exactly what you would want from a French restaurant, but sadly the food does not match. I got the chicken salad, and was very average. The atmosphere is very fun, but the food is just average.

My husband and I have always loved Laconda Verde and we have never had a bad experience at Lafayette either. I would go so far as to say that Lafayette has replaced Balthazar as one of my favorite go to places for an exceptional cafe/bakery meal. Breakfast/lunch/dinner. It's all delicious.

Nice atmosphere but inconsistent quality for that price level. Had the spagetti nicoise with fresh tuna which could have been delicious if it had not been so extremely salty.

Perfect weather; table outdoors; good company; food was okay. I would not call it good but more than adequate to round out our lunch. I had a medium rare brisket burger that came out well done, and a beet salad that looked and tasted like canned beets. We were 5 people and had a great time. The atmosphere made up for the food and I would go back. Prices high for the quality.....

The frisée salad and spaghetti nicoise alone are worth the trip. Both were delicious but the spaghetti nicoise ranks as one of the best pasta dishes I have had in years. Perfect combination of flavors! My wife and our friend had the cauliflower risotto and both liked it very much, though beware it is very cheesy. We also had the Brussels sprouts, which were good, not great. My five star ranking is largely for the spaghetti nicoise, with the frisée salad a strong second.

$30 for an omelette and a coffee - should be better, more flavoursome and generally more befitting of the reputation of this place. Somewhat mediocre.

It was a nice place however the staff were not friendly and accommodating at all. The food was fresh and tasty. It was an OK restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic! I wrote a lengthy review I accidentally failed to post. As I don’t want to rewrite the point was the breakfast was top shelf, dessert was not too sweet (yeah!), eggs fluffy and flavorful, fingerling potatoes crunchy on outside and soft inside with perfect seasoning. Service was absolutely top shelf. Attentive, friendly, and absolutely fantastic! This place isn’t cheap but the food and atmosphere is top shelf! Definitely a worthy stop! Very nice French atmosphere. I even heard French being spoken.

Nicely done menu with easily prepared dishes but well done. Lots of salads and French themed dishes nicely prepared. Service is generally efficient cuebtbsndboricescsre comparable furvtge srea. They are nine for rich desserts with great chocolate or pistachio crepe. Decent fairly priced wines.

It was Saturday morning and we were hungry for a good eat Lafayette caffe and bakery was a good choice. We liked this French place. We made a phone reservation and a nice table was waiting for us. The waiters were very polite and treated us well. We ordered three breakfasts based on omlets and salads and 3coffes that were very good too. On the side we got toasted bred and butter and marmalade. Mmm. To make a long story short, everything we got was nice elegant and tasty but the price......22 dollars for an omlet and five for a coffe it’s not cheap in Manhattan , so prepare your wallets and be ready to pay for a good breakfast.

Great French Café ! Perfect spot for a breakfast or afternoon snack. & those pain au chocolat are the best in the city, just the right amount of crunch & chocolate. There is also a lovely brunch scene, but always loud so be prepared. Truth be told, I went for the bread from Poilâne, they had a pop up, but sold out & did not know when more would arrive. More media hype then customer experience. Was able to find the new Poilâne Bread book @thestrand, which I love, nicely done Apollonia ! michele

I would leave zero stars if I could. Lafayette restaurant was a wonderful restaurant before Covid-19. New Team and New Manager = The place is horrible. The service is mediocre for the price and to make it even worse it is not even respect the clients. Hostess stand was rude.New Manager was rude. Come here if you want attitude. Don’t spend your money there. HORRIBLE PLACE. Avoid at all costs.

A classic cafe serving delicacies rich in classic flavours and also offers lunch and dinner services. Visited today for tea and was very impressed with the ferrero roche cake which was tasty! The pricing was reasonable compared with the tastes on offer and would recommend a visit.

We were lucky enough to get reservations for a Saturday night, party of 4. Reservations are definitely needed here! The place was alive by 7pm and there was no slowing down. Our table was okay, but lacked any serious leg room. That's the only thing I would have liked different. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was scrumptious!! We had the gem lettuce salad, cheese plate and tuna tartar for appetizers. The gem lettuce salad was a perfect sized portion for sharing between 4 people. The cheese platter had just enough for us to each get a taste of the cheeses, chutney & bread. The tuna tartar was beautifully presented, tasted fresh, was chopped to a perfect consistency and was plenty for sharing between 4 people. The roasted duck dinner was the tastiest we have ever had and was a generous sized portion! The oxtail ravioli was scrumptious. The scallops were cooked to perfection and served with a delicious sauce that made the dish out of this world! The duck pasta dish had a wonderful taste and presentation. The desserts of blueberry clafoutis and chocolate mille-feuille made us all wish we had left a little more room to polish off these delicious endings to a wonderful meal! One observation for next time, they celebrate birthdays by bringing out narrow, yet 3-tier "cakes" topped off with a large sparkler. What a fabulous way the celebrate!!

Lafayette is a chic French bakery with small tables and takeout, a fine dining restaurant, and an event space downstairs. It is run by John MacDonald who runs a number of NYC places including Lure Fish bar and boutique hotels. Location is on Lafayette Street and East 3rd. Short walk from Astor Place or Bleecker Street train stations. Menu is classic French bistro food. Food is tasty. If in the neighborhood, please check it out. I ate the L'Italien sandwich and my guest had the Strip Steak with frites.

Only a takeout review unfortunately, but what we ordered was excellent - blueberry croissant, brownies and cookies all thoroughly recommended. Prices a little steep, but to be expected.

Walking passed on our way from NYU to do some shopping south of there and decided to stop in for lunch. Fun stop with lovely atmosphere and food. Service was quick and the food was good. My daughters each had a croque madame which came with a huge helping of delicious match stick french fries. I had a lovely frisee salad (where a poached egg coated the bitter greens and made a perfect balance of textures, temperatures and tastes). Beautiful display of pastries which we will have to try on our next visit.

Great pre-theater dinner at Lafayette. The frisée salad had a wonderful mustard dressing with lardons (bacon). The rotisserie chicken was flavorful, moist, and tender. Absolute perfection. At my request, they substituted baby Brussels sprouts for potatoes with a small upcharge. My husband’s Bistro steak was cooked at the perfect temperature and he substituted grilled cauliflower for his potatoes. Both dishes served with amazing sauces with mushrooms. Cocktails and wine also excellent. Ryan, our Server, was the star of the show. Gracious, knowledgeable, delightful. Yet another stellar experience at Lafayette.

Lafayette is one of my fave restaurants in NYC. It is a challenge to go wrong with anything on the menu. However, the new trending pastry bka the Suprême is so so. I love croissants. But this spin on the traditional form is not my new go to by any means. The exterior is flaky but also too crispy. The center is fluffy but the filling is underwhelming. I tried the Pain au chocolat Suprême. There was a chocolate topping on the outside and almost a chocolate pudding or mousse like filling inside. The outside chocolate was better, it was more like a ganache. I went so far as to hear it up to bring it back to its prime state of production. Nothing helped. I do not see what the fuss is about. The cinna-cruffin was okay but I will not be buying any more. It’s is essentially a croissant posing as a muffin. I must have missed the muffin part. Only the shape and form lend itself to that characteristic. It barely did justice as a croissant. I’ll stick to the bakery classics from now on lol. But enjoy!

Living on its reputation, I think. I did not like this place. Everything was sloppy. Diffident service . Onion soup spilling everywhere. Really?

Really cool place and amazing pastries. We had brunch with friends and it was a closed event. Great service, super nice decor.

This place was really busy and had a great atmosphere on a Saturday. It is a dog friendly so a number of people had their dogs with them. The service was very good and the brunch was really tasty. Even though it was busy the atmosphere was unhurried and leisurely.

All delicious and of great quality. From the coffee, the bread... the Benedictine hollows... the simply perfect potatoes. You notice when a place has quality by the taste of its dishes. The waiters GOOD! Super friendly recommended things and super earrings from us. GREAT PLACE!

My friend and I were traveling America for the month and stayed in Manhattan Newyork. We were initially so disappointed with the cafes and breakfast eateries. Hungry for a good pancake breakfast and fresh non bitter coffee we walked past this and said we would try it. Absolutely amazing! Expensive but very worth while visiting. Nice inside but we chose to eat outside as it was a lovely day. Freshly cooked and nice fresh berries that tasted like fruit! Coffee refilled regularly. I’ll definitely be back!

Highly recommended for a lazy Sunday brunch, the food is great and the service we received from Chris is one of the best we have experienced in NYC.

We loved. Bright and sunny. Cheerful staff. Good service. Broad menu and great food. Each of the four of us had different entrees and we were all quite pleased. Delightful

We did the New Year’s Eve pre-fix in our own personal cabin outside. It was exactly what we wanted for New Years! The portions were very generous and delicious such a rare combination in New York City. The staff was completely attentive and we so appreciated working hard especially with everything going on. The Village houses were exactly what we wanted to have a nice time and be safe. Will tell all of our friends!

We used to come here every few months, with friends or as a couple. The last few visits it has really slipped down in quality and it's a shame. It is not cheap and it is not quick. You go here for a relaxed Sunday brunch and with a drink, you can easily spend $35 per person. The food on our last visit was even saltier than the previous time, when it was too much. Apparently, the kitchen is using salt instead of caring about quality. The "special" burger was almost inedible it was so salty, and it wasn't a sizable burger. It was tiny compared to the roll it was served on. The French Fries were saltier than at any fast-food joint I've stopped at on the highway. My wife had a salad, and it was served wet, without being drained after rinsing. Really sloppy of the kitchen to send it out like that. We will think very hard before returning. There are so many other options in NYC.

Beautiful classic bistro and caffe. Dishes are classic French dry tasty and tastefully served. Highly recommended for a classic tasty meal.

We ventured out for a pre-fixe Dec 30 dinner in "Le Village." Our private "chalet" was festive, charming and cozy, and the service excellent. Food was excellent. We were disappointed that they had run out of the short ribs we had pre-ordered, but the replacement NY Strip steak au poivre was fantastic. Leftovers for lunch were even yummier.

We stopped in on a whim before a show at Joe's Pub. Sat at the bar. Bartender was great- We ate oysters and clams to start. Then the duck for the main course- It was one of the best duck dishes we ever had. Will go back when we in the city again-

20/10 Wow! Excelent service since entering the restaurant. Cocktails and food were amazing! Onion soup was the best i’ved ever had! Don’t forget to get some pastries at the end👌🏼😋. Cesar from Colombia is AMAZING! Thank you. Will come back very soon!🙂

Be sure to start off you visit to this charming French restaurant by ordering the boulangerie basket for an awesome assortment of their fresh baked items. You may be tempted to just get this and nothing else but you would be cheating yourself (and also eating way too many carbs). The omelette, soft scramble, and bacon were thoroughly enjoyed at our table. I would have gotten the lemon pancakes with blueberries if I had room. Miguel and the rest of the wait staff were excellent.

Beautiful space, a little bit crowded. Food is amazing. A little bit overpriced and staff could be a little bit more friendly.

Stopped in for a drink with friends at the outdoor patio before heading to our dinner in the Village. It’s not inexpensive ($15-20/drink) but it’s a great place to people watch (both at the tables and passing by). Service and drinks are fantastic, as is the food. Current COVID rule requires purchase of at least one food item for the table, although they didn’t force this. We had an amazing 5 humongous cold shrimp cocktail with two sauces as a nibble. Highly recommend!!! My apperol cocktail with grapefruit juice and Hendricks gin was perfect! The food is great here, too!

We went around Midday on a Monday and joined a queue for the bakery. This place was on our list of famous places to try on our recent visit to New York. The most popular item here is the "supreme" which is a circular croissant that is filled with cream. By the time we got to the front of the queue only 1 of these remained so we bought it (the chocolate one). We had also wanted to try the pistachio one but unfortunately this was sold out. They have timed drops of the supreme (midday and 4pm I believe) so that tells you how popular they are! We also had a maple donut thing which was large and tasty. Overall, whilst we enjoyed the supreme - we're not sure it's worth the queuing and the price. Worth trying once at least though.

Delicious croissants from their bakery. Brunch was good and coffee was super. Not the cheapest but a lovely treat!

Birthday lunch following SJP around her best establishment in the west village of New York. We arrived early and sat inside which was perfect. Very attentive staff all round and food was delicious. Before we left a surprise birthday cake was bought out, a very nice touch. Thanks to all the staff

I recently ate here to celebrate my daughters birthday. It was a pleasant experience. There is both inside and outside seating, we chose inside. There is a nice selection of appetizers as well as entrees. Our waiter was very helpful and guided us to a wine that would compliment our individual meals. The portions were adequate and beautifully presented. We shared oysters as an appetizer and the entrees included two different pasta dishes, steak and fish. We also shared sugar snap peas with bacon and onions. Desserts were delicious which we shared. They even brought a candled cake to celebrate the birthday girl.

Wonderful French restaurant- great food and service. Bright, welcoming atmosphere. You can’t miss this one!

The beautiful pistachio croissant roll is a work of art and pretty big - sharing may be the way to go. The bakery and cafe are separate and there is often a queue out the door for the bakery as everyone is after the arty croissants so be prepared to be patient. The pistachio flavor was recommended and it met expectations.

We got the maple glazed donut and the raspberry anise tart and they were both delicious. My fiancé also got an egg and cheese sandwich. The only negative was it was supposed to have bacon on it and Rieu forgot. We got it to go in their front cafe.

Great place we popped in for brunch and enjoyed the frittata, soft scramble and the lemon pancakes. The also had an amazing selection of juices and coffees.

The Lafayette Grand Café and Bakery offers some great treats. We went there especially for the chocolate supreme, but there is no way around the Cinna-Cruffin and the Blueberry Buttermilk Muffin .... and that was good (o; Very delicious!!!

Went here for Sunday brunch. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. We hadn't heard the suprême croissant hype, so we were confused about the enormous queue outside the bakery. The waiter was extraordinarily pretentious but the service was professional and efficient. We had the omelet with a little salad, pommes frites, lemon ricotta pancakes with berries, and bacon. Everything was tasty but unremarkable. The pastries looked lovely. The atmosphere was elegant. A nice place for brunch if you're in the area.

Once we got past the three no can do’s we finally were able to enjoy a very nice lunch. We made reservations at 11:30 but arrived at 11:15. We were told we couldn’t sit, despite the majority of tables being open. They were finishing breakfast service and told us to stand at the cafe or bar. If you want anything from the bakery you can’t order from your waiter. You must go to the bakery, order and pay there. Even tho it was now 11:55 when one of us went to the bakery to get some croissants they wouldn’t let us buy the round croissant daily special. Wouldn’t be fair to the people in line. I get that. But there were only 6 people in line and they were all one family. Too many rules that are very inconvenient for the customer. Moving onward, our waiter was extremely nice and helpful. Our lunches, frisées salad, burger, and omelette were amazing. Please note, they re also famous for their eggs, but you are not able to order for example scrambled eggs for lunch. Only breakfast Just another comment. We did get the round croissants and carried them around in a to go box all day in the city. We were approached multiple times by people saying that they were jealous we had that box. Happy not to be mugged, and breakfast the next day was delicious.

I had heard rave reviews of the croissants and decided to take a chance on the restaurant. Well so glad that we dined here as the food was AMAZING. We had the quiche and bacon and egg sandwich. These weren’t just regular items - truly the best I’ve had. The eggs were cooked unlike any other and the bacon was delicious. We had a side of the potatoes and to go we bought a raspberry danish and cinnamon cruffin - we missed the timing of the croissants but the items we had were so good.

Excellent place we’ve been to twice. Great food and service. Lots of choice on the menu. Classy place in nice, safe location.
Fench dinner
Delicious French food. Walking inside is almost walking into a French cafe with beautiful high ceilings and big glass windows. The food is delicious just enough to eat. nice menu and good selection. The wait staff is very professional. The bar is beautiful and very crowded. Make sure you make a reservation to have dinner.
