Absolutely delicious French food . Super authentic and yummy. The owner mike is so accurate and always treats you like family, always feel at home at this place . Must go!!! The chicken and escargot is a mush try

Yes, the food is good but there are many other French restaurants in NYC. To say the service was indifferent is to pay a compliment. We felt like we had interrupted the staff and were bothering them just for showing up for our reservation.

We had reservations for a Friday evening, and had a lovely dinner. Several in my group had the streak frites and all raved about it, and I had a delicious truffle gnocchi. The restaurant is a tiny space, but we weren't rushed out--we lingered here for close to 3 hours (I'm sure the fact that we kept spending $$ on drinks and dessert helped) but we were never made to feel like we needed to hurry it up. The other comments about the noisiness are true, but we never had to speak above conversational tones in order to hear each other, so to me it just added to the general cheerful environment. Recommend!!

We stumbled on this little place by accident once while walking down Greenwich, what a find the place turned out to be! In my opinion arguably the best French restaurant I've been too - even better than those in Paris! The food is to die for but for me it was the atmosphere that made it. None of this posh restaurant type feel, the walls are adorned with French soccer jerseys and posters. The music is brilliant too but Vincent the barman is what made the place brilliant for us. So accomodating, funny, and happy to sit and chat with the customers. He made us feel completely at home immediately and we will definitely be back and recommending this place to all of our friends.

I had a fantastic dinner at a new French restaurant. We had the tuna tartare, steak tartare, mussels and foie gras to start and I instantly loved the mussels and the foie gras. The mussels had a rich garlicky broth, which I wish there was more of so I could dip more bread into it, while the foie gras was heart-stopping good. I was tempted to order more foie gras just for myself, which the restaurant says came from one of the owner's family recipes (thumbs up). The tartares were good, but the mussels and the foie gras were really so very good that I remember how both dishes taste like. For dinner, we had the steaks and the chicken. The steaks were good but needed something, a kick of sorts, to allow it to compete with the other dishes they were serving. The chicken was brilliant. The skin was perfect, the truffle butter was evident, the meat was tender. I am going back for this. For dessert, we had the strawberry tart and the chocolate crepe. I'm partial to anything with chocolate so the crepe was my pick. Brilliant little place. If you want very good French food without the obscene prices the more established places charge, Le Baratin does not disappoint.

We've eaten here before and the food is good, but the noise level is ridiculous. The restaurant is small and the music was blaring. We asked the waiter to turn the music down and he lowered it a bit, but it made no difference. My husband still had to scream for me to hear him across a table for two. We won't return.

We've been there with a big group. Service very helpfull and good food ! A little part of France in NYC !!!! Nice spot

If you're looking for a very local, non-touristy, authentic french bistro then look no further. My go to french restaurant in the neighborhood was starting to disappoint, and then another I liked on W 14th closed, and I ended up finding this place through OpenTable. When we went in, the first thing I noticed was the GREAT decor. No white tablecloths. Instead, french flags, soccer jerseys, etc. Music was playing, but not too loud, so you could have a conversation. It was a casual feel. Second thing I noticed was all the waiters speaking French, and a majority of the customers were conversing in French at their tables. It's a very small space, so do make sure to reserve. It's open late, which I think is a plus. Prices were cheap for NYC. The Coq Au Vin was the best I'd ever tasted - better than I've had in France! I was really curious about the wine from Carcassone on their menu, but they were out of it so instead I tried the Cote du Rhone which was fantastic. I secretly wanted a second bottle, but we decided to get desert and the gents brought us champagne - free of charge. So nice. I'll definitely be back and I'm so glad to find a new french spot in the neighborhood. Tourists, if you want to experience a small quaint greenwich village restaurant and dine with locals - go here!

A medium sized group visited the much Le Baratin and overall feeling was dissapointment. Food starters were tasty and all enjoyed. Unusually for a french bistro du pain was not forthcoming and had to be asked for a few times. The mains led to dissapointment. The steak contained too much gristle, about a quarter on inedible steak was left. The muscles were very plump with the Roquefort cheese, however the dish was charred leaving the wrong aftertaste. (Maybe using a charred pan?) The restaurant is cosy but does have a lack of suitable air con so expect to be hot and sticky if it is more than half full (as it was on our visit). Wine list was compact and has a hefty different continent premium making the wines expensive for what they are. In summary, sadly dissapointed on our visit after reviews and a lot pricier than inferred by $$ with overpriced wine.

The prix fixe menu (between 5:00 - 7:30) delivers real tastes of France, at a very reasonable price, particularly for NYC. Nothing is missing except the bill in euros, and you could not do much better in France for the equivalent quality and selection. We chose the $3 supplements for escargots and pâté maison, and the bavette frites. And, the restaurant/dinner from the perspective of une Française: Restaurant français digne de son nom. Joli décor, atmosphère agréable, bonne carte, bons plats. Un regal!

I’m reluctant to review this small gastro pub because it is a hidden gem. We eat here regularly and the food is always excellent. This is a chill restaurant with genuinely top notch French food.

I wish I would have read the review right below mine as it summed up our experience to a great degree. My husband and I reserved at 6-a much earlier hour than we normally eat and found that they were entertaining a group of around 25 beginning at 7:30. The restaurant is small so the noise level at capacity is not pleasant. Their wine list is pitiful- and I work for a wine importer so I know of which I speak. They were out of the first wine I ordered and didn’t bother to offer a more expensive wine at a discount / no matter, I ordered the more expensive choice only to be told it was also unavailable. Two wines out of stock from such a small list is ridiculous. Food was good but nothing spectacular- I found the Cote du Boeuf a little pricey at $49/pp. I pass this spot every day on my way to work - too bad it wasn’t a better experience- I doubt we’ll be back.

Got a margarita and it had a hair in it . Asked the waiter to please get me a new one and he just took it and left without being apologetic or anything. Then a another waitress come over with a new one and said “ margarita extra hair” . We then waited for someone to come out to ask for the check and no one came , went in to ask to pay there and they seemed annoyed that we walked in there.

Looking for a light meal after a transatlantic flight, we came across Le Baratin, which seemed like a place that wouldn't mind if we ordered a selection of starters. What sealed the deal was hearing Le Patron speaking French with the waiters and some customers, and indeed it makes you feel as if you were in France, quite an achievement for Greenwich Avenue. In addition to our order, we were given a Baked Brie freebie, which was sensational, no other word for it. A couple of glasses of wine, and we staggered off to deal with the jet-lag. When I'm next in New York, I'll certainly return.

A small French bistro with excellent French cuisine in Greenwich Village. Our hotel is in midtown near Time Square and the cab ride was quite short. The French bistro is quite small with a bar w/ high stools in the front and about 10 small tables at the front and back. It may be too cozy for you as you can hear the conversation at the table besides you if the guests there were a bit loud (which was in our case). However, we found the atmosphere there quite good. Our server, Rossy, was very friendly and she made sure that we were okay throughout the evening. The food was AMAZING. We had Moules au safran. It was the best mussels we had in recent years. My wife ordered grilled beet and mango tartare and she loved it. The flavours of the key ingredients with the vinegrette reduction went together very well. Presentation was very good too. I ordered the Magret de Canard et Figues. It was simply delicious! My wife made sure that I wrote down the name of this restaurant so we can visit it again next time we are in NYC. Price was pretty good - $20 for a very large bucket of mussels, $7 for a bottle of Perrier, $12 for the grilled beet and mango tartare, and $33 for the steak. A charming French bistro!

Found this place by accident wandering around the village. Nice friendly bar...The first night we simply had a prosecco and a very good Shiraz. We returned the following night (late December). We booked in advance which was just as well as the place was full. Excellent food - the French onion soup the standout dish. We were last out, but felt no pressure to leave. Happy to give five stars!

Our family, married daughter, husband and my husband I have been regulars at Gusto for years. It sadly closed and we were looking for a new "regular" place. Neighbors have raved about Le Baratin. Luckily there was a table available on a lively Friday night. The noise level was fine, our waiter charming, food good and the atmosphere was most welcoming and we knew we had found our new "hangout". One hint, portions are large, good for sharing.

I love Le Baratin. I have been going there as much as I can but not as much as I'd like. I would like to go weekly. If you want a quiet meal, go early because this place fills up and gets lively. It is often full of French folks (which says a lot). Their steak tartare is awesome and I don't even like steak tartare very much. Their burger is delicious. I haven't had anything I didn't like. But I go back again and again for the sweet breads. They are mouth-watering.

Casual, cozy and very friendly place with great French foods! We stop by for some wine but ended up having dinner too.

Le Baratin occupies a Greenwich Avenue space once held by a long-lived patissetie, so French DNA must be embedded in the walls. Not sure of the genesis of the wait staff though, but they are super friendly and accommodating, perhaps too friendly as the "never touch a customer" line was crossed more than once... That said, my boeuf tartare was as good as any I've had in Paris, and the pommes frites even better I.e. the best on either side of the Atlantic in my experience. My dining companion's pork tenderloin special was totally to his satisfaction. Our shared pate app was decadent and sufficient. It was a telling treat that the next table was totally French speaking; and to hear that US Open tennis French semifinalist Richard Gasquet was a patron two nights prior. Le Baratin is a Village keeper, one hopefully with long legs and with many more visits from this writer in store.

Went for drinks. Typical French bar/bistro décor. It was quiet (it was quite late) but pretty chaotic. Good wines and beers Espresso Martini made with amaretto! But weirdly it worked. Dirty Martini was mucky and unique. But weirdly it worked Friendly owner and staff. Good banter good fun. I am looking forward to dining here - it should be an experience. I liked it.

This gem of a restaurant will remind you of your favorite neighborhood Paris restaurant. The menu is cafe sized, but he food is executed perfectly and emphasizes the classics (boeuf burgignon, coq au vin, steak tartare, moules, etc.) with nightly specials that are indeed special. The foie gras special was among the best everyone at the table had ever had. The magret de canard with fig sauce also rose high above the usual fare. The wine list, while limited, fits the food well and is reasonably priced (for NYC). Finally, but not least, is the staff who hail from France. They were helpful and attentive with true smiles on their faces.

We were a party of course arriving on a Friday evening with reservations. We were given a table by the front next to the bar We requested a table towards the rear, it was denied. We were told it was for a larger party, right after we were seated the table was given to a party of four, very upsetting. The restaurant was extremely noisy and impossible to hear. The food was good but I would not return on a weekend evening way to noisy

We had the canard and the modules as well as a delicious tarte tatin. All excellent! Good service too

I think the food was average at max. The ambience is fine. Bathroom is clean. There’s outdoor seating as well but we sat indoors

We made a reservation for five on a Sunday night, and when we arrived with six people instead it was no problem. The waitress, who was also tending bar in the small restaurant, was very helpful and friendly. The Riesling was excellent - worth the splurge for the bottle. I had the coq au vin and was not disappointed - the chicken was flavorful and juicy, and the vegetables were crisp and fresh. My dining mates had escargot and mussels, which they enjoyed. Another also had their macaroni and cheese dish with bacon. The chunks of bacon were huge and absolutely wonderful - I snuck quite a few tastes from him!

We had dinner there today with four people and it was wonderful. Service was slow-ish by American standards but was paced perfectly to enjoy a leisurely dinner with friends. An appetizer of beets and mango served tartare style was amazing and something I had never seen; dressed lightly with age balsamic vinegar. The chilled poached salmon and salad were sublime. The salmon perfectly cooked to a medium rare. Salmon tartare was very good as was the endive salad. Dinner started with an extremely tasty charcuterie plate. This was our first time there and we will definitely be back. The $20-dollar two course prix fixe is a good deal.

The atmosphere makes you feel like you're in Paris. The staff are efficient, friendly (I know the snarks will say that it can't possibly be "authentic" if the waiters are friendly, but that's nasty American propaganda). We always make us feel welcome whenever we dine there. I love taking friends there to give them a real taste of France. The fact that the owner is French and that one hears a lot of French being spoken adds to the excellent atmosphere, along with what is truly great French comfort food. Goats cheese salad, boeuf bourguignon and steak with pomme frites are all fabulous and my guests loved the coq au vin. Can't go wrong with Le Baratin (I've probably said too much, but the place is called "Le Baratin" and I am a bit of a "baratineur"

I have visited this restaurant twice on recent trips to New York, staying near to Greenwich village. This a good restaurant serving some French classics in a medium size room. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the food is great value for the money paid. On this occasion I went with the NY Strip steak and fries with peppercorn sauce, my wife went for the coq au vin. Both absolutely delicious. Generous portions and very good quality. Give it a try.

A very good French restaurant in New York! The manager and staff are very friendly and helpful, a happiness! The dishes are of very good quality (starter, dishes, desserts, cocktails...). Fast service and good atmosphere with personalized decoration! I recommend

I loved this little place. The Onion Soup, the Salmon Tartare the Salade Lyonnaise were delicious. My favorite was the melt in your mouth Baked Brie ,we actually had 2 of those. Our dinners were just as excellent,The Cordon Bleu, the Boeuf Bourguignon, the Steak Frites were all very very good. The Cabernet by the glass sinfully delicious. This is one my favorite spots from now on.

A lovely find. Cosy French bistro with French staff great atmosphere and delicious authentic food. Felt like being in Paris Service attentive but not over kill. Good Portions and a lovely traditional French menu. Highly recommend.

Second time visit, my experience remains the same: great vibe, very laid back, friendly service (which I still feel weird when I receive it from the French) with quite traditional French bistro menu. The food was just ok here. If you are looking for big portion and not too picky in refinement, this is a place for you. I had the steak frites, my order of medium came out more of a in between medium well to well done which it's unusual as normally the French tend to cook on the rare side. On the opposite, my friend's duck dish came out way much rare ... not consistent overall.

My wife and I have been longtime customers of Le Baratin since they opened almost 10 years ago. To say we love it would be an understatement. We eat all over the City, but always find our way back to LB for special occasions. The food is always delicious and the people make it a great time.

I came here with a college French professor friend for a charming dinner on August 18. Having visited France this summer, I was thrilled to find this small gem of a bistro with authentic French food, good service and a reasonable price (for French cuisine). Our waitress was delightful and flexible as we ordered from the three-course menu. There were many great options on this menu, unlike some restaurants that offer prix fixe. The appetizers included pate with a nice small salad and gherkins. I loved the moules frites. Unlike some restaurants, the fries were freshly sliced in house, golden on the outside and hot on the inside. The prix fixe desert options included a delicious molten cake with ice cream. The restaurant is small, consistent with its location in the West Village, but very charming.

How to get out of this New York pressure .... just make it in this warm restaurant where kindness is natural We ate an amazing foie gras , and a rib of beef with perfectly mastered cooking I would strongly recommend this restaurant to my friends Don't change anything.....

Food outstanding with excellent 'rapport prix qualité'. Staff competent and friendly. It feels like France. It's a loud, buzzy place that crams in its customers. We were fine with that.

This is an excellent neighborhood French Bistro! Michael welcomed us with champagne while we were waiting for our table. We stated with the Baked Brie and the Beet Salad- both were phenomenal! The Rib Eye for two was good but a bit cold... The Tart Tatin was great! It's a small place that turns into a party place around 11:00 pm. Music was excellent and contributed to the atmosphere. we will definitely be back!

Delicious steak frites, French onion soup, escargots. Lovely, small dining room, cozy and friendly. The waiters are French and there were lots of French-speaking patrons the night we ate here. Very good Bordeaux by the glass. Excellent value, high recommendation.

Don't go because I want to save this place just for me! You name it. Everything is excellent. You like escargot pick 6 or 12 delicious. Onion soup is excellent too. Pate was great. Steak tartare was prepared perfectly. The place is small with nice ambiance. Service is very good and friendly. You will have a great meal no matter what you order.

The first is, of course, Lucien, on First Ave. off Houston, but Le Baratin is right behind, with helpful French staff, the right atmosphere, and creative food that tastes great. It was a chance find, looking for dinner before a night of jazz at the Vanguard, nearby. Start off, as we did, with the pate and the goat cheese salad -- both exceptional. Then I went for the gnocchi pesto with black truffle oil and mushrooms, while my wife went for the glazed duck with fig sauce. We both loved our dishes. Wines by the glass were fine and well-priced, but wines by the the bottle were insufficiently described to merit their prices. We will definitely be back!

I went a Le baratin with a friend and I did not have the best experience. Food is ok but too expensive for what it is. Just because it's french does not mean it has to be expensive. It is very simple food. Music was very loud, I had to scream at my friend so she could hear me. The waiter took ages to take our order. We ordered starters and entrees. He served the starters, and brought us the check after we finished it...he forgot about our entrees. Then the entrees were not the one ordered... overall it was very complicate, noisy and too expensive.

Excellent service. Cozy. Everything we ordered was delicious. Staff is amazing and make you feel like home. Will definitely be back.

Surprisingly good. Well prepared. Quaint little resto in Greenwhich. Breakfast brunch selections must try👌🏻

Great atmosphere and vibe. Didn't have a reservation so they sat us outside and said if the next reservation didn't show they would move us and within 10 minutes we were inside. The onion soup bites appetizer was delicious. The sauce on the chicken cordon bleu was top notch. The steak frites was tender and cooked to perfection with a wonderful poivre sauce.

Sad to relate I haven't yet got beyond the Bouf tec pomme Frite's, with a wee salad on the side. This joint would give ALL the better known Steak Houses in the city a run for their money. Soon I shall give the Mussell's a try.

as I am afraid I won't be able to get in again! We attempted to go at 7 pm on a Friday night and were offered the only table which was at the door. We tried again on a cold and stormy Sunday night. And had the run of the place. There is no fireplace but the laughter and french spoken at the bar was all the warmth we needed. Our daughter had Le Burger Baratin which was served on a delicious brioche, small side salad and pomme frites in a cute wire basket. My husband started out with the french onion soup and I had the Salade Baratin, were delicious but made finishing our main course very difficult. Onion Soup great. Green Bean Salad ok. Avoid eating the bread offered. Good but too filling. Hubby had the Blanquette de Veau and I had the Boeuf Bourguinon. Accompanied by a glass of red we were happy as clams. We'll be back! Next time leaving room for dessert!

I found this restaurant through opentable.com. My husband and I liked the friendly staff and other fellow dinners. Mussel night was was truly enjoyed too.

This is a seriously good find! It's a small place with an amazing atmosphere. Recommended by some locals we will make it a definite 'every visit' place to eat. The food was done to perfection and the service was perfect. There is a very limited number of tables and it gives a cosy feel to the place. We were lucky to get a table as they were really busy. Good value for money and a definite must visit for anyone travelling to NYC!

Welcomed by Mike, the owner, we were pampered from the very start. We loved theirs appertiseers along with the choice of white wine by the glass. Great mains too. Bronzino and the Duck Breast. Loved it all. Thanks Bro.

I love this place. I've gone a few times and it's been spectacular every time. My mouth waters just thinking about it! They're Gnocchi dishes are out of this world! They have a Brie cheese and pastry appetizer that they drizzle honey on that is to die for. The best part about the restaurant is that it's so unassuming and quiet. It has its busy times, but for the most part it's like a family. The staff treats you like a part of their own and they always make sure you are well taken care of! I love this place.

Culled into a visit on a loire valley special, that turned out not so special. App of garlic escargot not that tasty, limited menu and wine selection. Tarragon chicken and mussels were good. So on whole an average adventure. But small and lively.

This place is small, not especially comfortable, the decor is certainly lacking if you can give it credit for having decor at all, it's on trendy Greenwich Avenue which for me is not a plus, but the food is TERRIFIC. We had grilled steak, grilled chicken, and catfish. I ever got a chance to taste the fish because the steak and the chicken were terrific. When I say terrific, I mean I ate at the Old Homestead recently and spent a fortune for a porterhouse for two and I MUCH preferred the steak here. I don't know when this place is not crowded but I would definitely go then, but DO go.

Such a cozy cute restaurant with a friendly vibe! We sat at the bar and had a cocktail and the baked Brie that was to die for! The bartender was from France and sooo nice! He made us great cocktails! I wish we had discovered this place earlier on our trip! Highly recommend!!!

Vibrant bistro in the village. Lots of great people watching. We were seated at a table in the front of the restaurant, adjacent to the bar. The host offered us a table in the back, but told us that we had to leave within a certain amount of time. We didn't get the hint. The front of the restaurant is very loud. The bar gets intermittently crowded. I spent about half the meal with a woman's butt 12 inches away from me at eye level. The service was good. The best thing that we had was a yummy bottle of Pomerol. It was spendy, but the mark up was very reasonable. The food was solidly OK. The foie gras was overcooked. The mussels were bland, but the sauce and well cooked frites made up for it. The duck, filet mignon and pasta al la vodka were very good. The steak frites were OK. Solid place- probably would have gotten another star if we took the host's advice and sat in the back.

The best tartare in the world!!! This trio of tartare is just amazing 🤩 Tasty Cuisine, Mood and Welcoming at the Top. I highly recommend!

I went here on a Thursday night, and really liked the atmosphere. Great food and a friendly staff. The burger is a must.

Came here with another family for brunch, 4 adults and 4 kids. We were late for our reservation and they still took us which was nice, but unfortunately the rest of the meal suffered from a really rude waiter. The food was slow, and when a couple who'd arrived after us got their food first, we asked to check on ours and were told "it's coming, it takes time." Fair point, but why go out of your way to make us feel bad for asking? My eggs and spinach gratin were delicious but cold in the center, and I asked for them to heat them up a little more. I can't think of another time in my life I've sent food back honestly, but it seemed like it would be so easy to fix. After 15 minutes, I asked after my food, since everyone else was finishing up, and the waiter was sarcastic again, muttering and commenting as he walked away, visibly annoyed. It was just so unnecessary and demeaning. I won't be back.

I LOVE this restaurant. It has been a local favorite for many years. The food is excellent and your host Michael is most congenial. From the frites to the Steak Tartare everything is wonderfully prepared and the portions are ample. There is also a great selection of wines. Worth a trip down to the West Village... Have been doing extensive take-out during the crisis. Food travels well and is great to have at home!

This is a French bistro. Food and prices are fine. It´s small and very noisy but at the same time cozy, The Boeuf Bourguignon was terrific.

Went for a family dinner, really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. Great option for that french feel.

We booked a table at Le Baratin simply because its menu in the window looked inviting. Dinner was wonderful and it stirred memories of similar meals at bistros in Paris and elsewhere in France. Classic dishes well prepared; a good selection of wines; a warm welcome; excellent service - it's the real deal right down to the red checkered tablecloths. It's a place that serves good food that is satisfying. Not hyper-trendy, just good. We will come back often.

We arrived early, and that was a good thing because the restaurant was empty and we could pick a table away from the AC blast. And also because later it got really crowded. The place is small, which is ok, but it was more comfortable that way. The customers, once they arrived, were all very young except for the two of us. That is not either good or bad, just put it here in case someone is interested to know. The food was very good, both the baked brie which we shared for an appetizer and the mains, steak frites and moules au safran. We'll probably be back.

We ended up here after arriving from our long flight. Our first taste of NYC! It didn't disappoint. A great little find with authentic simple and no-fuss French food.

Le Baratin is bubbling over with energy and enthusiasm. It would be very hard to not enjoy your time here. On the Saturday we were there the people watching was outstanding. I had steak and eggs. They were good, but not great.

Very cozy and friendly place, you feel like being at someone's home. Big portions. Great tartar steak. also loved the goat cheese salad.

Have been here twice. The food is so delicious, all the great french standbys and a few that are vive la difference. The service is just right - staff is personable, friendly and attentive but not at all intrusive. Atmosphere is lively but not too loud. Wine list is small but very good -- not a full bar if you care about that. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portions. Only downside is it's a little tight since it's a small restaurant. I plan to come here again and again -- my new favorite restaurant!

If you love a warm, friendly refuge and traditional French fare, this one's for you. The moment you walk in you are welcomed and you feel welcome as you leave. The staff is lovely. The wine list is modest in size and price but is perfect and the food! The steak and tuna tartare were equally great, the escargot magnificent and the mussels we fabulous. Don't miss this place. This was my first time and I know where I am going for steak tartare OFTEN!

I have been several times and always leave happy. The setting is consistently intimate and inviting and everyone really makes you feel welcome the moment you walk through the door. We had the salmon tartare (perfect for a summer day), the mussels baratin with shallots and white wine (my wife's favorite), and the steak frites (juicy and flavorful with a pepper sauce). They are a great addition to the neighborhood and we will be returning again soon.

Le Baratin is a small, warm and friendly addition to the West Village. It's totally unpretentious and serves very decent French bistro food. There's only one waiter and sometimes the bartender and someone from the kitchen pitch in but they're all extremely friendly. We had the small size of the Salad Baratin, which was actually huge and will be more delicious when tomatoes are actually in season followed by the beef bourguignon and the blanquette de veau and a tart tatin to finish. All were good with the exception of the rice that came with the veal which had a very odd consistency of hard on the outside and mushy on the inside. The tart tatin came on a caramel sauce but sadly the apples were undercooked and not really caramelized at all. These, however, are minor complaints as we enjoyed our meal and the food being ordered at nearby tables looked very good, so we'll be back for sure! They take reservations, so make one because it can get very busy.

Very friendly staff and excellent food. Must try: the baked brie, and you can never go wrong with the steak frites.

Came across this restaurant after a busy day sightseeing. NYC is quiet overwhelming when it comes to food choice but as soon as we saw the menu we knew we had chosen the right place, staff were attentive and advised on wine offering tasters, we ordered the Plat De Chef Pour Deux which was A M A Z I N G! The best we have had. Wish we had found it earlier as the breakfast menu looked to our likening too. Very good value for money being just off of 6th Avenue

Great food in this small place. A bit noisy, but they know their coq au vin and crepes. What more can one ask?

After two days in NYC with average restaurant experiences, there was nothing average about Le Baratin. I absolutely loved it and the first bite of each dish elicited a "wow," as good food should. I had the fois gras appetizer, escargot, and the canard and was in heaven. Great portions and so so flavorful! I was particularly impressed by the service - constantly attentive without realizing their presence (the definition of a good waiter in my opinion). The place is small and I'm glad we didn't get the table right by the door, but it was cozy and had a great vibe. The loud 70s/80s music was a bit of a surprise for a french restaurant, but it was fun and after a couple glasses of good wine, I was dancing in my seat ;-) Overall, a great experience and worth traveling from our Times Square hotel.

Had a wonderful dinner that ended horribly. In all of my 7 plus years as a server myself, I have never witnessed such horrific behavior from a staff. While our waitress was wonderful and gave great service, our evening ended in hell due to another staff member, Katiana, who had black hair that she wore in a high pony tail. It began when I was sitting at my table talking with my party when she came up to me and started screaming at my because she said a woman from my party was taking too long in the bathroom. And yes I do mean screaming. The woman from my party had only been in the restroom for only several minutes at this point and was on her cycle, changing her tampon. Katiana aggressively banged on the bathroom door, started yelling through the bathroom door, then when the woman from my party came out of the restroom, Katiana screamed in her face extremely loudly and aggressive. We decided to get the check and leave, when Katiana once more came up to our table, once again aggressively yelling and screaming at one of the woman from my party and calling her a "dumba**", the same woman who she had previously yelled at for the bathroom. Our server witnessing this entire situation said sorry and said that she didn't know why Katiana did that. As my entire party are servers/bartenders and have been in the industry for years, I have never seen such horrific and aggressive behavior in my entire life. And especially not over a bathroom. This place was absolute hell.

We went to this quaint eatery on Friday night to meet friends to celebrate a birthday. It's a small place seating about 24-30 maybe with a tiny bar in front with 7 stools or so. It's just beer and wine, but they have a great selection and lots of champagne too. Let's get to it. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Cozy, home feel ambiance. Dinner=unforgettable. We had steak and salmon tartare, house pate, and mussels. All really yumbles, but these mussels were the thing I didn't know I needed. Perfectly cooked, but this broth...(sighing in awe). Super! If you've got that and a deck of cards for dipping, you're all set! I could go on. Steak frites, duck, gnocchi (made in house), Cordon Bleu= yumbles, yumbles, yumbles and yumbles. Take all that with David, Mike and their staff (all French to boot!) and I hadl one of the most superb bday dinners ever, truly. Thank yous guys so much. GO!

Le Baratin is a cute neighborhood French bistro. The staff all speak French so you feel like you've been transported to Paris. They serve all of your typical French classics there like coq co vin, steak frites, moule frites etc and most of the food I've tried have all been quite tasty. The place gets busy so definitely worth making a reservation if you plan to dine during peak hours.

This is the place to go if you want excellent food and friendly atmosphere. All the menu is top quality. Whatever your choice you will not be disappointed. Special thanks to Mike the boss and his team. They make the place unforgettable.

Amazing place. The food is absolutely delicious. Ambiance and people are just really really amazing! Great and fast service.

My boyfriend and I were looking for some French food in a hole in the wall type of place, which is how we found Le Baratin. We made a reservation for 7pm and were seated immediately by the host/waiter. What caught us off guard was that he was actually French, but we appreciated it as we figured the food would be pretty authentic. Since the restaurant is small, there wasn't much room between tables, but we didn't feel cramped. It was hard deciding on what we wanted because there were so many things on the menu we liked. For appetizers, I ordered the escargot and my boyfriend had the moules marinières. Both were wonderfully delicious and the butter just melted in your mouth from the escargot. For our entrées, we had the truffle gnocchi and the beef bourguignon burger. We split both so we could taste as much as possible and both choices were excellent. Unfortunately, we were so stuffed that we couldn't order dessert, but we'll definitely be back soon. It was a great find.

By sheer luck we ate at this gem on Sunday. It reminds you of an intimate bistro in Paris. The service was wonderful. The food was so good. We had the moules marinieres, salmon in seasonal veggies, beef bourguignon, onion soup, and mousse. My husband and son-in-law both had the beef and said it definitely reminded them of Paris. The salmon was moist, tasty, and surrounded by veggies that were delicious. Not being a moules fan, I rely on others who said they were perfect. The wine was reasonably priced. This is a small place, but you didn't feel cramped. We went without reservations and we weren't rushed. We will definitely go again the next time we return to NYC.

On a busy Friday night we trekked to the village for drinks and dinner. At 7 pm it was still reasonably quiet and the lovely staff steered us in the way of wine and appetizers. All were good and before we finished sampling and yakking the small dining room was filled with youthful joie de vivre. Chicken cordon bleu with lovely mashed potatoes followed along with orders of steak frittes.. Dee-lish.... This is a fun spot with youthful French vigor that is real and savory......Bon soir

Dined late on a Friday night after seeing a movie (10:30pm) with an open table reservation and was seated immediately. Both restaurant and bar were still busy. Food was very good, particularly enjoyed the gnocchi with a truffle sauce and the poulet roti, half chicken. Service was nice and efficient. Didn't rush us through our meal and were plenty attentive. Menu and drink/wine prices were extremely reasonable. Entire restaurant and bar is small, so it gives it a very quaint feel as we often want to find when dining in Greenwich Village.

I had a great Foie Gras to start, accompanied by the best GNOCCHI of my life , with a great bottle of wine and a amazing chocolate mousse to cap my night out with my girlfriend. I will be back for sure.

Had to catch the early show at the Village Vanguard so went an early dinner. Despite the fact that the place was full of the elderly and couples with young children (due to the early hour) the food was delicious (albeit expensive). Worth it!

First visit, to check it out alone on the recommendation of a friend. Service was cordial and attentive, making it a very nice experience. The food was very, very good. The Special appetizer of the evening was pan seared foie gras and was as nice as I've ever had! Canard -duck breast- was a generous serving with a delicious sauce. House wines by the glass were fairly ordinary. I look forward to returning with others to sample some of the bottles offered.

A wonderfully crafted meal. Friendly service. Great vibe to the entire place. Friendly locals to me being from out of town, Chicago. I will revisit this restaurant everytime I visit New York. I have recommended and insisted upon it to everyone in my company. Highest compliments that I can offer to the owner of this great restaurant!

Very tasty French food with a small/quaint bistro feel. Laid back atmosphere that can get a bit loud at times, but nothing too overbearing. The escargot was delicious as well as the baked Brie. Must try the creme brûlée foie gras - very unique take on two French classics! Would definitely go back.

Cozy French bistro with good food and friendly service. We enjoyed the skate wing and the roast chicken. Menu said the chicken came with seasonal vegetables (latter a bit overcooked), but the surprise was an accompanying dish of layered potato slices. House side salad was nicely dressed and the salad with chevre especially tasty. We also couldn't resist the mac and cheese which was bubbly and very cheesy--yum! One to add to our regular list.

Oh dear! Was one of my favorite places in NYC. Good food, great ambiance and a party like atmosphere. Watch out. They often have private parties on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. They foolishly take reservations up to 8pm on those nights. They do not inform the guests that they will have to leave at 9pm. We had a reservation at 7.45pm and were told when we arrived on time that they needed the table back. They had confirmed the table with me bit never mentioned the party. Last thing I want to do is eat and drink and then be turfed out like a homeless peasant. I have eaten here 30x. I know the owner. We both support Arsenal FC. We chat every time we see eachother. I always bring out of towners here for a wonderful evening. The owner was nowhere to be seen. The manager was rude and unhelpful. I got upset. I spoke in French to him so as not to embaress him. He then claimed to know other places like Le Baratin nearby so I asked him to get me in there instead. A fair compromise. He called. He could not get us in. We ended up leaving without sitting down. We won't be back ever! So fellow customers be very weary about making a reservation Thursday night to Saturday night. Le Baratin: change your policy. Don't accept earlier reservations of you intend on treating regulars like unwanted guests. You got greedy. You tries to make money from an earlier setting instead of charging your party host for having the restaurant for the night. Shameful.

Not easy to come across a good typical french restaurant in NYC. Le baratin manages to pull it off with classic french dishes very well prepared. The Staff is helpful and there's always a joyful atmosphere here !

Have walked past this place way too many time and finally decided to stop in --so glad I did! Had the best croque Monsieur of my life. Staff and owner were super friendly and this clearly isn't heir first time at the rodeo- can't wait to come back and try the coq au vin. Welcome to the hood - Le Baratin!

My favorite French bistro in downtown nyc. If you love mussels, frites, wine and any kind of sport- this is your little heaven in NYC . Food is very good as is the overall vibe, made possible by Lori the bartender and the manager. A top spot to eat, drink, watch a game and simply enjoy. Highly recommend!

This place has really, really good food. The pâté was wonderful, and the Poulet Rôti was . . . wow. Julia Child said that you can judge a restaurant based on its roast chicken; Le Baratin is excellent. Solid service, and a really enjoyable evening.

Worse server & service Food was ok but the server who was overwhelmed with only 5 tables was rude and inefficient After seating for 20 minutes I asked if we could order another 30 minutes went by to get our 1course order which arrived without bread (steak n eggs) When I asked for some he got more annoyed At that point I decided to go get salt myself, wish I didn’t… He said I could not do that with the worse attitude and then made comments about me… Wow I did not go there to fight with a lame server I had read reviews and wanted to try … My eggs got cold, I paid my tab left zero tip and got my coffee next door 🙄 Hospitality is not their forte … obv that server needs a long break !

We have been coming here since the restaurant opened, and to say the food is sublime would be an understatement. Thee beef bourgignon, coq au vin, and steak tartar are all good. The escargot and pate are great starters, Michael, the owner, greets everyone when he's there. The only downside is that this is a small restaurant and on the last visit things were rushed.
Worst table ever
Made a reservation well in advance. We got there and our outdoor table for four was two small tables of different tables pushed together and slanting heavily towards the gutter. Couldn’t pull the chairs in. Clearly an after thought. Would have been impossible to keep a drink on the table. We had to leave.
