Charming Authentic Parisian Cafe

By Sirois A |

You rarely find authentic French Cafe in New York and they are often overrated. Not Le Moulin à Cafe. Maybe because it is next to le Lycée Français and has a good student menu, but everything is nice and authentic. Not pretentious. Just nice. Nice experience. There are very few of these cafes left in Manhattan, that has gone Starbuck and Duncan Donuts wall-to-wall. Very nice experience

Warm and good

By F.L |

It's fast, very good and cosy. Croque Monsieur first rate, chicken crepe, excellent, both served with a yummy salad. The chardonnay is good, you can get things served from the counter or go further in and get pampered. For a quick tasty lunch, on York, number one.

Paris in New York City

By robcurtross |

My companion and I have become regulars here. The staff is very friendly, and the nearby lycee attracts many French moms at certain times of the day. They add to the Parisian atmosphere. The croissants are made daily on premises and have that wonderful buttery taste you rarely find in the United States. The food is invariably very well prepared, the premises are very clean, including the men's room, and normally service is prompt and very friendly. This is very much a small corner of Paris on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Beautiful Upper East Side French café

By Dawn L |

Lovely little bakery/restaurant. We ate from the breakfast menu--the spinach and cheese crèpe, ham and cheese croissant, and omelettes were wonderful! Great latté and coffee selections. Nice, clean bathrooms.

Surprise Gem

By Stanley Y |

We were visiting my wife's son for his birthday. Spent the night before at Del Frisco's and were looking for a brunch place before the drive back to DC. This place was 4 blocks from his apartment and he had been there before with his girlfriend. So we met his sister and her husband for brunch. Parking is dear so be warned but a couple block walk from the subway. I was very surprised how wonderfully it was a bright French Country atmosphere on a rainy day. Wait staff was attentive. The six of us shared two orders of eggs Benedict, two different quiche's, and two different Crepes. Everything was excellent. Some dishes came with fries and greens or just greens. Very well priced. If I lived nearby I would come for Brunch every weekend. There is a take out and baked sweets section when you walk in I had not tried but will the next time we visit.

Delicious

By Jayson C |

This place is as advertised! It has a very good ambiance with excellent service! The food was great (eggs benedict) and the coffee (Cafe au lait) was amazing (best I've had in a very long time).

Laid back and yummy

By Sara O |

We went for brunch and had a lovely time. Not too many tables but not overly crowded. The food was good and sweets even better!

Serves my favorite tea

By Idonotcook |

It is a small simple but pretty cafe closed at night. When you see if from the outside you just want to come in! It is one of the few places to eat on York Avenue, far from the crowd. What I love: it serves my favorite tea which is not usually served in cafes around the world: verbena. I will come back and try their brunch.

Best French Cafe Food

By hawaiiansurf8 |

We ate breakfast one day and got take out dessert and croissants another day while staying in NYC. The food is fresh delightfully prepared and delicious. We had omelettes, and quiche. Best authentic french fires, great coffee, quiche was crisp crust and creamy inside. The omelettes were huge. Toppings great. They have the best croissants this side of Paris. Highly recommend this casual French cafe.

Great find on the UES

Charming location - a bit of France on the Upper East Side. Great coffees and teas, french pastries, and food prepared in the French manner. Bakery and small market area sells French items.

Great brunch option

By Bat120 |

Had a lovely brunch here - laid back atmosphere but attentive service. Good choice of brunch options including a very tasty burger and delicious eggs Benedict which wasn't drowned in too much hollandsise. Will go again!

A friend recommended it and it was great from the music and the ambience. Good service and good food

My preffered breakfast place in Upper East Side.

By rodrigo otavio ... a |

My preffered breakfast place in Upper East Side. Not crowd, but a calm ambiance, many nice hand made paper work decorative stuff like kindergarden paper work. Excelent coffe and yogurts and other good options. Escape from pick a bagel, le pain quotidian or starbucks, that seems to hurry everyone. Only critic: they could open at 7:00 instead of 08:00 a.m.

Kid Friendly, delicious brunch

By 592alanac |

We went last weekend with our 17-month old and a friend. My husband had the pain perdu (it was delicious) and I had the grilled shrimp salad (also delicious.) The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful when the first high chair turned out to have a broken strap. I also had a bellini, very tasty. We got a great seat by the fireplace. The decor was adorable. In addition, they sell fresh pastries as well as cookies/treats to take home. I would recommend this brunch spot.

A delightful habit

By robcurtross |

My one time Parisian companion and I have made this a biweekly stop on Sunday afternoons. Service is prompt and always very friendly. The French specialties are excellent, and taste very much to me like the similar food we had in cafés in Paris two weeks ago. They also stock a very interesting range of French packaged foods, all of the highest quality.

Pretentious Frenchy cafe

By Gustave D |

Use to be a place called Cabin Fever.... Opened up a few years ago and I think they are associated with the French School between York Ave and East End. The coffee is fantastic and they make a mean espresso and cappuccino. Students hang out at the cafe to speak French to each other.... It's Yorkville and quite pretentious.... Also the pastries are to die for!!!

A bit of Paris

By robcurtross |

The owners are French, my companion is French, and we both love this place, truly a strong feeling of a Parisian Café. Great service, delicious food, a very pretty setting. One star off: wine by the glass, even two or three bucks more, would boost my rating.

Excellent addition to the neighborhood

By Schipa |

Lovely place to drop in. Decent coffee, excellent pastries, and some fabulous sandwiches. The staff is charming and mostly French speaking. They also sell a few French products. One could almost feel that one was in a Paris cafe except for the fact that recently it seems to have been discovered by the laptop crowd and is starting to have the look and feel of a Starbucks. Too bad. Maybe they should dispense with the free wifi.

Every Neighborhood Needs a La Moulin

By PSGumby |

Love this place. Their morning pastries are superb croissants, chocolate croissants, etc. They are light and flakey. Lunch or brunch is excellent. Great selection of salads, crepes, sandwiches. Their fries are among the best in the city. They have a really good burger. At brunch their French Toast (pan perdue) is also good. In fact, over the last few years I have had almost everything on the menu and have liked them all. Pastries are perfect - not too sweet and macarons are as good as they get. It is very homey and friendly. No reservations.

SSSHHH This Should Be a Secret

By HillaryNewYork |

If too many people realize what a great place this is for breakfast, brunch or lunch we will not be able to get in anymore. Absolutely delicious omelets, cuoisants,( wrong spelling sorry) great salad, french fries, pastries, fresh orange juice, french toast, and I could go on and on! what a gem for the neighborhood! YUM!!

A Gem!

By Matin4 |

While staying with a cousin on the Upper East Side in Manhattan we went to Le Moulin for breakfast two mornings in a row. The egg salad and the salmon brioche a must try. Freshly squeezed orange juice, croissants with cheese, macaroons and other baked goodies a treat. The staff is very friendly. The chef went out of her way making us croissants with cream cheese.

Amazing brunch

By Aseem A |

Had the famous crepe and burger was nothing but perfection. One of Upper east side best brunch places!

A soupçon of Paris

By robcurtross |

My Parisian companion calls this very authentic, simple, fresh and excellent quality food. The owner, Yanne, is charming, attentive to detail and very accommodating and flexible. The macaroons are made in Paris and flown in every single day. During the weekdays, it is very popular with young French mothers and their kids. The lycee is right across the street.

Lovely pastries i can never forget

By richpranantyo |

I love everything about this place, the atmosphere is just lovely and what they serve is just heavenly, My favorite would be their apple turnover in which the apple filling is just beautiful and not overly sweet and the pastry is just perfect... i also love their creme brulee which is rich, with lots of vanilla and the caramel on top is just perfect. They have lovely onion tart as well which is perfect for a light meal. on the savory side i love the salmon brioche. Around Christmas i tried their bouche de noel which is so lovely. I am looking forward to have another chance to visit this lovely place

Had an excellent meal and service. Ambiance was also great! Meal was delicious. Excellent wine choices.

Perfect French breakfast on the Upper East Side

By AMAPhD |

Excellent cappuccino and breakfast pastries. Friendly staff and free wi-fi (ask for the password). Now that Payard has closed on Lexington, this is my favorite breakfast place on the UES.

Authentic Parisian Cafe

By Spencer M |

Speaking as someone who lived in Europe and has traveled there multiple times, I highly recommend Le Moulin a Cafe. Their croque madame was one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly golden brown with just the right amount of cheese. Really solid coffee as well.

Lovely spot for coffee, breakfast or a light lunch!

By Traveltroel |

For a welcome change of pace from the many chain 'coffee shops' and eateries, this was a find for us. We were staying in the city for a few days and, after having found this, made it our breakfast spot for 2 of the 3 days. We also enjoyed lunch here the last day. Both counter and table service were good and friendly and the offerings include a choice of deliceous breakfast pastries, good coffee and a selection of nice breakfast and lunch entrees. Nice ambiance as well. All in all recommended.

Paris in NY

By AnAnthropologist |

Although this is only a few blocks from our co-op, we never knew about this cafe but when we learned of it, we stopped in for breakfast. My spinach croissant was delicious and the espresso was good as well. My husband enjoyed his pain au chocolate and cafe creme. In addition to being a bakery and cafe, French products are sold including my favorite Michoko caramels covered in dark chocolate that I bring home from trips to France having never seen them in the US. Only negative was that all of the bottled waters were warm but the proprietor offered ice.

Wonderful brunch spot!

By SkyandMarvo |

A beautiful bistro with delicious omelette a and great coffee. The salad that came with the omelette was fresh and tasty. The fries were not very good, a bit greasy, but I didn't eat them so next time I go I'll order all salad and skip the fries. Otherwise it's a 5 star!

Always improves

By Marina |

We discovered this place in 2017 from great food experience and Chef Baccarat always delivered from his great cooking skills to our table. We tried all of the menu and must say that our preferred stayed crepes, steak, croque monsieur, eggs Benedict, lentil and veggies soup, grilled tuna, petite baguette with sausage and pate, dark bread and salmon sandwich and little brioche sandwiches. Coffee is always nice- well balanced La Colombe, that is never too bitter and never tooacidly, but has great aroma and round taste, even if as latte. The most important thing is that the owner is always in, he runs the shop, serves customers, looks after menu and listens to suggestions. Maybe that is why this place is so popular among UES gourmets. Recently added new management and stuff- better time efficient service, polite attitude and helpfulness of the stuff. They now serve dinners, that are as well food quality as their day menu . Though is a relaxed walk in, for larger groups and celebrations, I would suggest to call them ahead to reserve your spot. The place is always full.

Poor customer service. Extremely rude and unprofessional staff.

By Dali E |

This was my first time visiting this place. I ordered an extra hot large cappuccino and was served with a small cup. When I requested a large cappuccino as per my order they simply poured coffee from a small cup to a large cup. I expressed my dissatisfaction and instead of receiving an apology I was told by their manager and serving staff that If don't like there service I can take my business to somewhere else. I asked for refund and left this place as I felt very disrespected and insulted.

Excellent quality. Nice breakfast spot!

By TangoNY |

Excellent quality. Real French restaurant and a very good breakfast place. I ordered Provencale Quice and it was excellent. Lemonade was good as well. The cafe also sells a lot of French made groceries and little candies. Happy to recommend his place!

Reminds a Parisian of Paris

By robcurtross |

This is a very pretty French bistro with tables are around. And the back room complete with fireplace and a dozen additional tables. Very friendly service. Food is good to very good and at times outstanding. Average visits twice a month for three years and never had a bad experience.

Très Bien! Friendly w/ Great Coffee, Pastries

By BR938 |

Love this place for dashing in for coffee and croissants. They have table service too. I’m always happy with this place. An omelette is served with greens and French fries. Sensationnel.

Excellent for light fare and take out

By robcurtross |

This is a mecca of great French café food -- omelets, breads, salads, soups, and much else. A good assortment of French condiments and other specialties, with a pretty serving counter surrounded by a few tables, and a very pretty back room with more tables and a working fireplace. A gem on the Upper East Side. We discovered the café two years ago when we made a mistake and watched the Marathon from the east side of the street -- we were unable to get back home for a couple of hours and explored new places to get out of the cold. This fit the bill beautifully, and we have gone back at least once a month ever since, with never a bad meal or unpleasant experience.

Ver y nice place; poor staff

By Traveller-Cbm |

The staff at this place are very inattentive, they do not now how to serve neither they have the will. Very disappointing that such a nice place has a very unfriendly staff.

Good Food

By sbenedetti16 |

Delicious food and great atmosphere. A little pricey but definitely a great place to have brunch! Overall I recommend.

Great croque madame

By robcurtross |

We greatly enjoyed this authentic French bistro today. My companions quiche was also excellent. Cleanliness is very good, service was fast and friendly, and we enjoyed the Parisian feel of the place.

Nice lay out of tables outdoors

By Trail732875 |

I have been coming fairly frequently for lunch and find that the quality of the food is not very consistent but better during the week than on week-ends. On the whole the salads are good; the crepes on the other hand seem to have been made well in advance and are soggy and very disappointing. The service is good; desserts would be improved if at room temperature.

Very European!

By cyndi011 |

Everything about this café makes you feel like you are in Paris or at least Europe. They have excellent coffee and fresh juices. The pastries are beautiful and unbelievably delicious. There were quite a few customers seated around us who were speaking French which added to the wonderful atmosphere.

A real French cafe on the Upper East Side

By PSGumby |

This is the perfect spot to meet friends for a true French breakfast or lunch. Pastries are terrific. Their croissant is among the best in the city. Coffee is fresh and delicious. Lunch has a great selection of salads sandwiches and entrees. I have never had anything here which I don't like and I eat here once or twice a week. Service is sometimes a little harried, but the place is so nice and friendly that it is barely noticeable when service is slow, which is not often. They are always welcoming and nice. It is worth the trip to get here.

Caffe and a croissant

By Judith484 |

I came here twice. Love the vibe. French music and food. Lean and friendly staff. Coffee is delicious. They have quiche, sandwiches and pastries. Nice room in the back for meetings or little gatherings. They also carry an assortment of packaged French items.

So excellent

By Fred A |

Very charming place for breakfast and brunch, delicious croissants and pastries, we felt like in Paris... Very welcoming staff, magnificent atmosphere. Thank you all for this great moment "au Moulin"...

A delightful lunch!

By LadiesVoices |

A delightful lunch! Our server was Alberto, he was first class. We will definitely be back, a special jewel on the Upper East Side.

Great authentic little French place

By invertpaleo |

Everything here is really delicious. It is not a big place, but food and drinks are high-quality. Authentic French sensibility. Check it out!

Excellent French bistro

By robcurtross |

We are regulars at Le Moulin café on York Avenue, and enjoyed an excellent lunch yesterday – a Croque Monsieur for my wife and an excellent split pea soup for me. The croissants were two of the very best either of us have ever had, and she an ex-pat from Paris. Pretty decorations for Easter; prompt and very friendly service; and very good cleanliness. Because of the French school nearby, you can hear lots of French being spoken by all age groups.

Tres magnifique - charming cafe restaurant

By rositagamboa |

I so enjoy the charming ambiance of Le Moulin and the food is delicious! I wish it was not so far from my hood Gramercy Park or I would go to Le Moulin rather often. This is terrific place for enjoying a coffee with pastries and/or a good meal with quality french cuisine. Highly recommend -Bon Appetite !!

Great breakfast spot.

By jadon06 |

One of best breakfast spots on upper east side. Very quaint interior and food is excellent and much better than diners and other restaurants at same price. French bistro type menu with great omelets and French toast. Only downside is no refills on coffee as coffee is better than average.

A bit of Paris in Manhattan

By aliceann1 |

So glad that the Bagel Shop across the street was crowded, because this was an absolute treat for brunch! Don't get me wrong--a New York bagel with a shmear is great but our experience at Le Moulin a Cafe was really unique. It's a very cozy venue and the service was very good. Food was authentic (authentique?) and there is a large and varied menu. Coffee and pastries were excellent and luckily, there is a small market for "take-out" if you want to extend the experience and enjoy something at home.

Best croissant

By WhitsEnd2014 |

This is consistently the best croissant I get in the city. $2.75 including tax. I'm a simple girl. They also have chocolate croissants, almond croissants, apple turnovers, etc. All the proper basics. They have a limited menu for breakfast and lunch, and they close early. They NEVER sell yesterdays pastries today. I HATE when places do that!! They bake in small batches and have fresh pastries throughout the morning. This is located right next to the French School and is overrun with French folks in the hours right around the start of the schoolday. It is very quiet in the summer, and the perfect time to get your favorites! A great neighborhood spot.

lovely atmosphere, casual Paris in NYC, great service and food

By Randye F |

What a lovely blend of French cafe, American ease. The menu offers variety, the food is very good and it is a treat to be there. I am a frequent lunch visitor and always leave relaxed and well fed. A treat.!

not a good experience

By Sam M |

too expensive and their food is not that great, had coffee their and brunch multiple times and I am not impressed, but the decoration of the place is nice.

Would not recommend

By Galina M |

Visited with a friend. We had tuna which was the most expensive item on the menu and got half portion for $26. Unfriendly manager.

Excellent Cafe

By Joseph C |

Delightful small cafe on York Avenue on the upper east side serves fresh salads, soups, crepes and much more, at reasonable prices. Like an authentic European cafe both eat in and take out are options. Additionally it serves really good french pastry. I enjoyed an absolutely delicious and authentic Gateau St Honore. We ate in and our service was first rate. Wish they would open in Chicago.

Great place for brunch

By Macy |

Nice outdoor seating area!! Wonderful breakfast and brunch place. A lot of good choices on the menu. The omelette is customizable which is very accomodating for vegetarians.
