Le Singe Vert (the Green Monkey) has a great authentic small brasserie ambiance with very competent and classic French cuisine. Enjoyed the escargot, in classic Bourguignon style with butter and garlic and a very good skate perfectly cooked. Fresh French baguette bread to accompany the meal and excellent, caring service. Very good profiteroles for dessert. A welcome oasis in a sea of ramen and pizza joints.

I love this place. Not only do I travel to France frequently but I also used to live in this neighborhood and Le Singe Vert was my favorite haunt. The menu is totally French bistro, the tables are close together, and it's noisy. In other words, it's an authentic French restaurant. We usually get wine by the bottle and prices are reasonable. Favorite dishes: poulet frites, moules frites, steak frites, any of the salads, and pate.' When I'm back in NYC, I always head back to Le Singe Vert to make sure it's still there and to have the French experience that kept me going for a year when I was away from my home in the French West Indies.

I have eaten at this place more than once. I went this year with the same friends as before, he said he thought the place had changed hands, the sign reads le singe, and not le singe vert. in any case I've had the steak there, others ordered the salmon and the duck. all were happy with their meals. this time it was practically empty but we were there early for dinner before 7. so not so noisy. other times it's been deafening. this year I had the onion soup which I enjoyed (not so heavy in alchohol) and the roasted artichoke salad which I really enjoyed. our waiter had a thick french accent and did his job well. We enjoyed out dinner this evening and I have enjoyed it other times.......good quality, but very small place

Dependable.

Great bread, wine, seafood!

You'ld do much better at Bar 6. Service at Singe Vert was horrible. waitress ignored ny table for 20 minutes prior to ordering Steak au Poivre was fat laden and overcooked. Same dish at Bar 6 is better quality and 10 bucks cheaper.

Or Minkey, as Peter Sellers's Inspector Clouseau pronounces it. Delicious French restaurant in Chelsea, an easy walk to Greenwich Village. Definitely worth a visit.

The bistro is warm and wonderful! The staff is attentive and friendly! The vibe is low key, most patrons native...if a you are a visitor revel in the great opportunity to experience Paris ala NYC! Brunch is perfection! The escargot is to die for!

food was excellent & perfectly prepared; service was friendly and professional; restaurant is cozy with vibrant atmosphere. Add this restaurant to your list of favorites.

We chanced into this restaurant after deciding that even a gift certificate to the nearby Boqueria was not worth exposure to the literally sardine can density of its clients and the incredible noise level. What a nice change was the back part of Le Singe. My wife and I both had oysters and then skate for the main course. The skate was superb, with an unusual sauce. The oysters excellent and two different desserts of top quality. Nice French atmosphere including typical French "laissez faire" service that was not up to the quality of the food. But we would definitely go back there.

Nice service; poor food. We have been coming here for many, many years. Today we just had the first poor meal we’ve ever had here: tiny mediocre omelet, tough crust on quiche, many rotten bits on greens. This restaurant needs to pay more attention to the quality of its food. We will return, but if we hadn’t been there before , we would definitely not return.

Went here on a Saturday eve, it wasn't crowded when we got there, but filled up as the hour passed, including a large group next to us. Which made the noise level even louder and we left to go somewhere quieter. Other than that, the place is very cozy. The bread they served was hard, cold and didn't care for it. I ordered the Saumon Aux Lentilles: salmon with french lentil ragout, chipolini onions, bacon. The salmon was nicely crisp on top and cooked medium as I requested. I was hoping for more bacon, and was sad when I only got a 1 inch square of it. I enjoyed the first couple bites of the dish, then it was too much salmon and too much lentils. The portion was quite large. My date got the New York Steak Frites: NY Strip, french fries, watercress with roquefort sauce, which he seemed to enjoy. I tried the steak and it was good with the roquefort sauce, without it, it would be plain ol steak. It was a nice meal, but not remarkable enough to want to return.

Le Singe Vert has it all: Fine food, an excellent wine selection, and a wonderful cafe atmosphere. This is a place popular with the Chelsea crowd, tourist-free and laid-back,

Went there because of the reviews but was disappointed. Service was slow and the entrees were average. The Escargot however, was excellent.

Cute, neighborhood oreinted french bistro. Not huge menu but the food is very good. Escargot was excellent. Fish special was really good. Mussels were also excellent. Tasty but not over come by garlic. Really good desserts. Reasonable wine list.

We go to Le Singe Vert frequently, and we always enjoy a great meal and excellent service. There is a small but lively bar scene and the crowd is eclectic and interesting. I recommend this restaurant equally for locals and visitors.

Great food, well prepared, good wine and excellent service. Fantastic! I especially recommend the filet mignon - rare!

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Good brunch menu. Various omlettes, croque Monsieur, mussels and burgers or salads. A good Chelsea venue.

We celebrated Father's Day yesterday with a delightful brunch at Le Singe Vert. Located in the heart of Chelsea, this cozy French bistro features indoor and outdoor dining and a good selection of entrees, omelets, salads, and terrific fries. We enjoyed crepes with asparagus and shrimp, Eggs Benedict, and a salad nicoise with wonderful tuna. Service is very friendly and prompt. The food is delicious. Drinks were also good. It is lively and energetic here, made for having fun. Well worth a visit, if not several.

Family met for dinner--with a reservation. Service was good--it did take a bit long for food to begin arriving but not too long. Food was very good. Server was very good and helpful and funny as well. Nice atmosphere.

I thoroughly enjoy my meals at Le Singe Vert. At times, one, might have a flash back to eating in a very similar spot in Paris or Tours. The food is good French cuisine, and the atmosphere is generally quite intimate though I would not ® necessarily recommend it for a date or something like that as you will be sitting quite close to your neighbors.

We had a great brunch here. It was very quiet for a Saturday, and they didn't have the bottomless brunch which is still advertised on their website. However the food was very good and the cocktails were moderately priced

Our favorite French bistro in the neighborhood- delicious everything with charming and friendly service💓. Yummy for #brunch #lunch #dinner - in 📷 chilled cucumber soup with creamfraiche grilled cod 👨🏻🍳 🙌

This is my favorite restaurant in NYC to visit around the holidays. Such a warm atmosphere, beautifully decorated, it's like closing your eyes and being transferred to a tiny bistro in Paris. The food is always excellent, the service is a hit or miss, but even then I always come back.

We were looking for a local place near where we were staying. We had walked past Le Singe several times and were taken by the staff presence and apparent service. On our last night in NY we wanted to try them. Blown away is the only way we could describe it. Great welcome, great service, great food from enter to mains and dessert. We just loved Le Singe. Try them if you get the chance ..and can get in :)

One of the hallmarks of any French bistro is the fries. The fries at Le Singe Vert ("the green monkey") are no exception. Thin, crisp perfection. In fact, all the dishes are authentic French bistro -- and for a great price. The salmon was quite good, but be sure to hear the specials before ordering. They are usually outstanding.

I have noticed on this site and other ones of its ilk people bad-mouthing this superb bistro. I cannot understand why. My husband and I have been eating here for five years with some regularity (which is saying something since we no longer live in NYC) and have experienced time and again only superb food and service. We have been there when the place is packed, with small groups, with large groups, mid-week, weekend, and just recently the early evening of New Year's Eve when we were the only people in the place, and we have always eaten well and had outstanding service. For example, my husband ordered a Rusty Nail, which was not made the way he was expecting (the bartender put in a splash of lemon, which is how he is accustomed to making them). Not only did they take the drink back but before he made the drink again the bartender came over to confer with my husband about how he wanted the drink to be made, and it was made exactly that way, with a smile, an apology for inconvenience, and not a smidge of pretension. I love Le Singe Vert's food and the warmth of the wait staff, and recommend you try it because you'll never eat French food in Manhattan any place else after you have eaten at The Green Monkey. And for those of you with small children, we also recommend coming here: while they don't have a children's menu (thank goodness) they do have high quality food and will not condescendingly address your children as so many small bistros do. My daughter has been eating the mussels and oysters here since she was five and asks to come back often.

Love this place, had a wonderful dinner, but when I payed the check the waitress who barely spoke english before suddenly became fluent and questioned my tip. It was 15%, but I guess that wasn't enough for her. My dinner companions then got guilted into putting in extra cash for her tip. The service was fine, but guilting a customer into giving a bigger tip is just tacky, perhaps I was wrong to give only 15%, but isn't that the standard for standard service?

Scanning for a place for lunch we saw the awning and outdoor patio look inviting so we stepped in. Nice little layout and atmosphere in here. Wait staff all were very friendly and welcoming. They were on it when it came to refills and cleaning the table off. For lunch, the Niçoise salad was incredible! One of the better ones I’ve had. Overall I’d like to experience again for their dinner options

This place has gotten worse over the years. It used to be a good place for a french brunch. The bread wasn't fresh and we were the first people in on a Saturday morning. They forgot my salmon in my omelette. The hash potatoes were actually very good. Don't think I'll be coming back here anymore.

Good steak frites and good steak in red wine sauce. Never disappoints. Friendly staff and good ambience. Even do a sticky toffee dessert.

I've come here many times over the years. I always bring friends here. The food has always been very good and the service very friendly and efficient. The ambiance... classic french. Lovely!! I would love a good sparkling Cremant from the bordeaux region to be added to the by the glass menu. Then 5 stars!

My family and I had a very pleasurable meal last night. The food was well prepared. The service was very friendly and attentive. I would recommend.

When you dine out in Chelsea Saturday night, you expect to wait. You expect a scene. You expect waiters rushed off their feet. However if you go a little early, life is sweet! The french speaking waiter was very attentive, the truffled fries, cheese and charcuterie plates delish and the outdoor seating was perfect. Great time! Expensive? Absolutely. But welcome to New York people.

I love Le Singe Vert...or let me say...loved. For years I've come and recommended this restaurant. Every out of town guest to special event, such as tonight, I would say my husband and I would come here. However, when a huge spider passes my head and interrupts our dinner causing me to move and my husband to do the heroics and kill it before it interrupts another table, I'm upset, the manager saying , "It wasn't a roach or rat so it wasn't in my control." No apologies. No...you want a dessert on the house...or...anything except , "It wasn't a roach or rat so it wasn't in my control.". He said that more than 3 times... I really don't want... need... recommend... or will come again, not because of the spider...but because of the way we were treated. I was made to feel as if it was my fault or problem and they had no care for my feelings what so ever.

Both of our meals - the appetizer, meal, and desert - were excellent. They also provided a tall, lovely container with water so that we could help ourselves anytime, frequently checked to see how we were without really bothering us. Weather was perfect and several people ate outside. The front doors remained wide open so that we sat at the front indoors, yet felt as if we were outside, which I loved. Hubby had lamb shanks that he loved; I had a luscious, huge hamburger. We were thoroughly satisfied.

Lively vibe with delicious food. I was there with friends from the office and we had a charming server who made us welcome. The wine list was just perfect!

Came with a group of friends on a Saturday night, and it didn't disappoint. Good service, great food. The steak frites were always excellent. Best fries.

Located in a bustling area full of small restaurants, this local spot has a warm, if dimly lit, appeal, even from the street. Taken here by friends, the food was classic French bistro fare served by people who actually seemed to be French (at least in some cases). Moules frites, skate en beurre blanc, frisée salad with lardons, all the classics were represented at dinner. Though not cutting new culinary ground, it was a solid option I really enjoyed. Perhaps not worth an extensive detour, but a great choice if you're in the vicinity.

Good, well prepared food and a reasonable selection of wines. Service was perfect, just the right amount of attention without intruding. Everything arrived promptly. Noisy but fun.

Just visited this reasonably priced French bistro, which many of us consider to be the best in New York City. Their skate is just delectable - cannot say enough good things about it. The Syrah was phenomenal, and the French waiters and waitresses know their food as well as they do their wines. Always a treat to be here - and you don't blow your wallet. Not a surprise that 8 pm onwards it gets packed. Always love this place. Have been going for years. Never disappointed.

Like many NYC restaurants, this one is extremely noisy and I had to strain to be heard by my companion at dinner one recent evening (ended up with a sore throat as a result). However, the food is good so maybe go for lunch instead of dinner. Also, they are cheap with the air-conditioning and in fact have front doors across the front of the place like a sidewalk cafe that remain open so there is literally no air conditioning inside -- it was warm in there! The food is good. I started with a cold cucumber-yugurt soup that was delicately spiced and delicious -- just what you want on a warm summer night. I had the Burrata and heirloom tomato salad as my entree ($18) and it was wonderful. Fresh, juicy tomatoes and a light and lovely dressing with the creamiest burrata ever. Loved it and the combination of the two was plenty for dinner.

Food is really good, but just waiting forever for getting table..

Great authentic french food. Very tasteful. Keep in mind cash counts at this restaurant (and American Express). Reservation recommended. This is a New Yorkers only restaurant. You won´t find too many tourists at all. Also a great bar, if you only want to stop by and have a drink. Le Singe Vert est magnifique.

Onion soup lacked flavor - came out as soon as ordered. Steak was dry and lacked flavor, over salted. Service was appalling. When soup came out, more on plate that supported the bowl. When I pointed this out, they basically didn’t care, guess that is their tres chic presentation. Would not come back again - VERY disappointing.

Why is the bread not fresh? Here is a French bistro with a lovely ambiance and good food and the bread is cold/stale/not French? The food used to be better, as well. But the place has a great vibe.

A friend and I had drinks at the bar. It was a nice cozy, comfortable noise-level atmosphere with other guests also deep in their conversations. I wish we could have had dinner but it was not in the plans. The only thing I thought weird was the bartender had us use the same straws with the consequent drinks.

The have a fixed price 3 course menu (24.95) with choices of fish, chicken or steak for entrees. There is a full menu with many more choices as well but we went for the fixed price. Complimentary bread and butter came and was fresh and good. I ordered the Boston salad which came with the house dressing. Nothing else was offered. It was just Boston salad, nothing else but the dressing. The salad was very fresh and clean. Next came my steak and fries which also had more greens on the plate. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came rare. Hard to tell as the room was very dark. As I was with a group of 4 others I chose not to send it back. It had good flavor but was a bit chewy. The fries were hand cut and delicious. I had the mousse for dessert which was also very good. There is a decent wine list but don't expect to get away cheap. The portion sizes were small so don't expect a doggie bag.

I love this little gem in chelsea. I live around the corner and go weekly. The menu is great, the ambiance is similar to being in a tiny French Bistro. I bring everyone here when they visit. You can sit outside and cafe' and people watch. Very friendly staff that go above and beyond. Just go!!

This restaurant has a nice range of bistro menu offerings that are well prepared and nicely presented. The space has antique fixtures and finishes that make you feel like your in Paris. I had Provençal mussels and frites with a nice rosé! The waiters are very attentive and eager to please, and Le Singe has become one of my neighborhood favorites.

Shared a delighful afternoon extened lunch with old friends and colleagues. Have some limited experience in Parisien cafes, bistros and brasseries, in the greater Paris area and parts of Normandy. Close but no cigar to Le Singe Vert would be La Brasserie Lipp in Paris. A good deal more intimate at least in size, but equally timeworn is this160 7th Avenue establishment. Our group of seven had gathered for some Holiday cheer and 6 of us were new to the restaurant. Our host, an afficionado of French food, candidly admitted that he had patronized the bar...but not the restuarant. C'est la vie!We plunged ahead with his guidance. To reduce my entree choice to the simplest, it was an omelet with cheddar, tomatoes and bacon. Candidly, I have not had a better one on either side of the Pond or Pont Neuf for that matter. It was accompanied by a small Cesar Salad and fries. My wife had a burger. The portions were were more than ample, and the fries again especially delightful. Freshly prepared deserts followed with cappucinos and espressos to seal the repast in one's mind. I had lucked out and found a Muni Meter spot right outside so I spent the ime popping up and feeding the monster. As for my ride home north via Sixth Avenue in the rush hour, the omnipresent but largely unused bike lanes, the pestilence of pedicabs from Radio City north and the expanded idiocy of expanded bike and expanded jogger lanes on Park Drive North leave one wondering if the Mayor "16 Oz" thinks this is Paris! Bring back Ed Koch. Our air quality diminishes whil Mayor Nero fiddles with pedestrian plazas blocking main arteries, diverting traffic east and west like a secondary search lane at the Mexican border. Try going south on Ninth Avenue a bike lane on the eat curb (empty, of course) is abutted by a second concrete island against which cars are parked... mandating the poor truckdrivers trying to make a living an deliveries to double park and block the next vehicular lane. Replicate the deliveries eig made to te merchants on the west side of the Avenue and you get barely two lanes of traffic down to maybe one with left and right turn spillbacks. At ome point, I worked my way up to St. Nicholas Avene and Wst 145th Street and guess what, another bike lane. A bike tire has never touched this one since the paint dried. Hey, Mike...use your head. Mon Dieu!, at least I had a great meal. Pass the Fernet Branca to quiet the peristalsis, but not for the meal!

We sat their and ate and drank as if we were in France. Even the customers were talking in French! And needless to say the waiter. The food was just excellent! Everything just perfect as expected. If you are a French fan, this is a place you can't miss in NYC!

What can I say, great meal (venison bolognese), super wine, efficient service, reasonable bill! Would eat here anytime..... c'est bon

I needed to eat and get out of the foot traffic and ran across this gem. The service was excellent; the food great and a lovely glass of wine. I sat in the back to get away from the noise but they have nice seating cafe style on the street under a canopy.

The soups of the day are always amazing Nicoise salad was excellent! The lobster sandwich is wonderful. Good wine list too. In the warm weather sitting outside is great

We were staying fairly close by so walked to 7th Avenue and found this restaurant. There was a live 3 piece "band" playing and it was fairly busy. Bread strangely enough was disappointing. Usually french bread is so delicious but I think this was a few days old. My husband had steak and I had lamb shanks - all very good and plentiful portions. Lighting was extremely poor and we had to use the table candle to peer at the menu. Perhaps we picked a bad day when everyone there was a bit hard of hearing .... so mixed reviews.

Le Singe is (almost a bit too) dark and cozy in the evening, almost achieving a Parisian feel. The servers are all attentive, some clearly speak and/ or understand French. The menu is fairly limited, doesn't change much, with few specials. Classic dishes are well prepared. Tables for two people are small and all tables are close together. Noise level high. Decent selection of wines, at OK prices. The pour is a bit erratic, oddly.

Wonderful steak frites. Authentic French food, as I have been told by French visitors. Great outdoor seating in good weather.

Was dragged to this Chelsea gem by a friend -- and I never wanted to leave. The food is fantastic. No, the food is beyond fantastic. If non-pretentious very French food is your bag, then you'll never want to leave either! It's also shockingly modest in price, my party felt. We had great service, too. Warm and homey. I can't wait to go back on my next trip to NYC.

Lovely outdoor patio, cozy bar and comfy tables make you feel like in France. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Always checking on patrons. Food is well done, a reliable mix of French fare with good wine selection. Salmon burger was probably the best I ever had. Do try this place if you are visiting the city.

The decor reminds me of a Paris bistro with lots of brass and close tables. The night we were there the air conditioner was barely working but the friendly waiter made up for it. The menu is typical bistro style and there is a nice selection of wines by the glass.

We had a pretty good meal here the other night for four. I've always really liked this local restaurant. Service and food standards are slipping however. Our food was not bad, but it wasn't great either. It was disappointing. Service was pretty prompt, but the waiter didn't listen very well to our orders. I'm disappointed to report things have gone downhill.

used to be a favorite everyday standby. but in the past 6 months my favorite dish - hanger steak - has gone downhill.

At least that has been my experience. I used to go here for an occasional lunch when I worked in the neighborhood. The entrees are very good, as is the wine (don't attempt to order a mixed drink; it will be disappointing), the tables are small and crowded together, and the service (by French people) is somewhat spotty, They don't seem to realize how important good service is; for that reason, I more often had lunch two doors away, at Elmo--for less money.

This restaurant was a cool find. I was looking for a place to celebrate a business success. Le Singe Vert was the perfect place for me. I am a big fan of escargot and Bordeaux wines. They had both and they were excellent. The staff was professional and friendly. While I was dining, I lost an earring. When I discovered my loss an hour after leaving the restaurant, I called. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to find the missing piece and kept it for me until I was able to return two days later to pick it up.

We had dinner here and sat outside on the patio. The service and meal were fantastic. I loved the steak frites. We also had the apple tart dessert, which was amazing. Highly recommend this place.

I met a friend who lives in Chelsea here as it is one of her fave spots. We were seated outside, where there was definite subway traffic heard, but no big deal-it's NYC and things like that cannot be controlled. I found the staff and service quite good, contrary to other negative reviewers. The food and wine prices were expensive. We were up sold to a $60 Rose that my friend says she purchases locally for $14. I ordered the duck dish (medium rare, as the chef recommends according to our server). When it arrived there was not a speck of pink anywhere, so I returned it to the kitchen. Though the restaurant was not overly busy, it took so long to be presented back to me, that my dining partners had just about finished their meals. I was not going to return it a second time though it wasn't really much better. We split the thin Apple Tartin which was wonderful and for me, the highlight of the evening. As we were ending the night, I noticed the restaurant's "B" rating in the window, a bit too late it turned out. I was ill in the wee hours of the morning and am still recovering, five hours later. Sorry, very disappointing.

Quick dinner here after work the plat de jour (black sea bass) was delicious with olives, on a bed of quinoa. The ice cream soufflée topped everything off nicely! To accompany this we had wine from the Rhone Valley, go with a bottle as the per glass only makes it interesting if you stop after one. If you prefer wine served in a "european fashion" meaning the waiter not emptying half the bottle in each glass, just ask to handle the pouring yourself. I don't know if it is the waiters and restaurants pushing to consume or just lack of training...I tend to think the first since my return back here in the states....

Relatively inexpensive, Le Singe Vert serves really good French food and its wines aren't over priced. Service is excellent, and the ambience and food make this an excellent restaurant. I eat here very often and have never been disappointed.

We have been going there over the years quite often and have really grown to love it. The food is very good, service is exceptional and the ambiance is Parisian. For a taste of Paris - check it out.

My old neighborhood watering hole...almost always consistently good...fun atmosphere at night...the skate is excellent

Lovely little traditional French bistro type place. Good service and really good food. Bit confused that a French restaurant was serving feta cheese salad and lamb meatballs with mint but when in Rome I guess. Decor a little rough around the edges but didn't detract from the ambience and the cooking was quality. Would definitely recommend.

I met my first cousin and her husband here for dinner as it was close to another event they were attending. The restaurant interior was a little dark, but was cozy with a nice atmosphere. The food was ok, but not exceptional. There was a special for pumpkin soup that I tried. I found it to be a little bland, but it had good consistency and was served warm but not too hot. I had salmon for my main course. The presentation was nice and the salmon was very good, but nothing that set it apart from other restaurants, in my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would certainly recommend eating here if you are looking for a comfortable meal. If you want something more trendy or flashy, this probably isn't your place.

A busy Chelsea bistro, almost a diner with French food. This is a high volume restaurant, which to me does not mean it's great; it means it slings average French food with average or below service. If you're looking for great French food, I'd keep looking. This is pretty expensive for pretty average food and service.

I had a mixed reaction to my food. The foie gras was disappointing. My osso bucco entree was better. The restaurant has a nice small-feel atmosphere, though this makes it noisy. There appear to be a group of regulars who, at one point late in the evening, broke into song.

This is always a great, charming place for authentic French pub fare. The vibe is total bistro as is the cuisine. The food is always great & the staff very professional. I don't get here often enough, but when I do it is perfect!

I've gone to this restaurant for years and it is always a good choice for tasty, French Bistro fare, with good alcohol (wine and drinks) and authentic French decor and feel. Most of my choices have been the meat variety (order the meat special steak if they have one - the sauces are divine), but all of the choices are are fresh and tasty. The salads are also well balanced with ingredients and dressing, not some bunch of greens with a drop of oil and two drops of vinegar. I had the green lettuce salad with goat cheese on french bread toast. Then the steak frites with Peppercorn sauce. My dining partner had a mesclun salad and steak trite as well. We both shared a bottle of Pinor Noir wine (can't remember the name :( though). Don't come if you want quiet and space. It's loud but not deafening and the tables are quite close to one another. But it does make for a very pleasant experience by the time your food and liquor ordered and consumed. Side Note: I've got a special love for this place as I've gotten drinks sent to me (as an introduction for a pickup) which has rarely happened to me in other places. It also has an authentic French feel and clientele, as well as the local people from the area. All in all, great mix of food, drinks and company. What more could you want from the neighborhood bistro?

Great food and great service. in the summer they have a great outdoor space in front. I have never had a bad experience here.

Le Singe Vert is a go to spot for brunch in Chelsea. Always easy to get a table. Solid French food. Good omelettes. Croque madame. Cocktails and drinks available.

A small French brasserie nestled in Chelsea where a hotly anticipated bookmark is now turned into a review. My Quest is now my conquest. Oui. Party of two on a Friday night was entirely pack for the waiting time was over thirty minutes. We waited by the bar both sipping a Cabernet Sauvignon which were served in mammoth glasses lasting all through our meal. My friend's standard bar drink request- Long Island Ice Tea was not readily available in a somewhat classy French restaurant, despite carrying all the ingredients. Little does he know French people's daily alcohol intake is wine as part of their culture- not mixed drinks as he never traveled to Europe. Uncultured swine! For Him: Nicoise (grilled tuna steak, string beans, boiled egg, tomato, cucumber, peppers, potato, anchovies, balsamic) $18.50 For Her: Risotto Fruits De Mer (scallops and shrimp over asparagus Risotto with lobster sauce) $29.00. My Risotto was prepared perfectly with a nice subtle taste without dryness, but the scallops were somewhat salty. Nevertheless, I ate the whole thing!! Obscenely expensive but worth the forty five minute long-haul wait for good quality food that reminisce my short lived trip to Paris, France. Having previously traveled to France in my lifetime I know what to expect for the food, despite of not understanding the French language, so I am no stranger to Soupe à L'oignon or L'Onglet (French hanger steak with Frites) or baguette. Le Singe Vert's atmosphere is cozy and romantically dimly lit in a Parisian flair. Service is attentive. Outdoor seating is available, but seats do not face the street in true French fashion. In scanning the dinner menu all items in the meat department are written in French with English descriptions which I was very appealing to my heart's desire but not to the wallet. Le Singe Vert's dessert carry Crème Brûlée in conjunction with dessert port wines, Sherry as a nice compliment for a very happy ending but lack of space in my body would not allow any further intake. I would surely return for the Steak Frites or the L'Onglet Marchand De Vin (hanger steak) or Poitrine De Canard Roti Aux Pommes (duck breast). Oui. Since I am sadly unable to leave the country, France will come to New York!!

If you want a taste of life in New York, this is a fun place to people watch while eating lunch. Just like in Paris, the tables outside are tiny, but on a pretty day, it makes for a pleasant divertissement.

The waiter was friendly and wine delicious. That's about all the good things I can say. The French onion soup was tasteless, lobster ravioli undercooked, and mussels Provençal average. There are so many great places to eat in NYC - definitely skip this place.

I have been going to the restaurant for years. I take guest...friends...dates...the food is always good and they recently changed their policy and now take most major credit cards.

We had a great dinner at Le Singe Vert. The wine selection is very good and the food is typical of French Bistro. We had Filet Mignon and they were cooked perfectly and very tasty. Service is super friendly and efficient. We really liked the staff. The best surprise was on the Friday night late when the tables were moved, a DJ came in and a party came alive. Warmly recommended and will come back for sure

Nice atmosphere in this Chelsea bistro with an authentic French vibe. The service is relaxed and courteous. The food is good and this provides for a relaxed and low key experience for a quiet night out.

The place is quaint and charming. Definitely a French Bistro with some of the classic dishes such as escargot, Moules Frites on the menu, as well as some unexpected such as octopus carpaccio. The service was good and the staff was pleasant. The salads were excellent, the escargot was just a little too chewy, but tasty. For our entree's we had Moules Frites Provincial and the Salmon with spinach & lentils. Both were nicely prepared and very delicious. I would definitely go back.

Always a trusted French restaurant. The food and service are always consistent. I always like the moules frites although the steak frites is great to. My girlfriend had the duck salad which also had positive feedback. They let you try the wines before purchasing enabling you to find one you really like.

I've been coming here for years, and it has decent French food. The quality of the meals is hit and miss. The service is good, but it can be loud and crowded. It's also very expensive even for New York. I'd recommend it if you need it quick casual meal, but it's nothing to write home about.

This restaurant is an authentic French bistro. We visited for lunch while in NYC for the Big East Tournament. Our waiter was very efficient and helpful. We started with two glasses of Sancerre, escargot, and excellent bread to dip into the parsley butter sauce. I had the skate over mashed potatoes and my guest had the burger. I would have loved to come back for dinner, but we did not have time!!!

Good service, real French-appearing food. The ladies' mussels and Tuna Tartare were great; my Amish chicken a bit dry.

I have been to this restaurant several times and come here with my daughter and son-in-law recently for Fathers' Day. My daughter wanted to take me out for the day, but I had already purchased tickets for myself and my girlfriend to see a concert at the NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. So, I purchased two more tickets to the show and we all went to dinner afterwards. I have never been disappointed with a dinner at La Singe Vert and this evening was no different. We shared the mussels in a white wine garlic sauce and we thoroughly enjoyed the duck, beef tartare, and steak. Of course the pommes frites here are the reason my girlfriend lives. Only kidding of course but the place is worth a try. We enjoyed the outside dining.

I shared a very nice dinner with my friend at Le Singe Vert on a Tuesday night. Would sugget making reservations - a table in the back against the wall would be a good spot. Quite authentic Parisian feel to the place. Cozy (tables close together!), a background noise level that you can still talk over, and very good food. We enjoyed a very good brandade and a pate as appetizers. My hanger steak, served with a delicate/tasty risotto and large marrow bone, was nicely done. Mussels with house-fries were as hoped for across the table. Good sorbet for dessert. Would suggest the Sauvigon Blanc instead of the Sancere. A good neighborhood place - will be happy to return.

This is a cozy and romantic place. We made reservations kind of last minute for a Saturday night, but were able to get a table for 4. They actually accomodated us to sit at a different table then they first had put us. During dinner we had two different servers, since the first one ended his shift. They were both equally friendly and accomodating. When we asked questions about the menu, they were ready to answer or asked the kitchen for more information. The food was really good. My wife had the salmon with french lentil ragout, which was really delicious. I had the special of the night, which was a seafood risotto with shrimp and scallops. There could have been a few more shrimps (only 3), but it was pretty good. I also had the special appetized, which was a tart: Tuna and mushrooms over a pastry with a delicious sauce. I envied my friend for his dessert, the Fondant au Chocolat - amazing. This was my first visit at Le Singe Vert, and I will definetely come back here. My friends have been coming here for years.

I have been to Le Singe Vert a few times. They usually have decent food. So when I was given an OpenTable gift card, I decided to use it there. When I presented them with the electronic gift card, every worker in the restaurant had to stop by and tell me that, unfortunately, they could only honor a printed page. And the French waiter, threw up his hands and said, "But what do you want me to do?" I said, "I want you to honor the gift card just as it says right here that you will do." OpenTable tells me that there is no reason the restaurant even needed to scan it. All they needed was the number to honor it. It was their attitude that bothered me most. They couldn't even think of a way to honor the certificate. They wouldn't even try. They did offer us free cocktails. We had already had cocktails and wine. I didn't want their offerings. I wanted them to honor their gift card. If they can't do it, then they should take their restaurant off of the program. At least OpenTable was able to let me change the gift certificate to a different restaurant. I know a better French place down the street. Should have gone there anyway.

We walked over here after seeing a play at the Atlantic Theater Company around the corner on 27th in the pleasant, safe neighborhood of Chelsea. We had a table outside on the sidewalk, so we could watch the interesting people walking by. We each had a glass of delicious Malbec. My wife's trout was fresh, plentiful, and perfectly cooked. My mussels provencale were plump, juicy, and the sauce was so good we both ended up spooning it out like a soup. The bread was fresh, crunchy on the outside and springy inside. Instead of dessert we each had a rich, delicious cappuccino. Service was professional, cordial, and efficient. After our meal we went back into the kitchen and complimented the chef.

Went here with our son because it is down the block from where he lives. When we stepped in I felt as if I was in France. Interior is old and crowded with a romantic ambiance. I had the roasted duck breast, one of the best I've ever had. My husband had the hanger steak which he said was very good. We all shared an appetizer of escargot, very hot and ok, but dipping bread into the sauce was delicious. The absolute best was our desert, Creme Brulee. The only negative was that the restaurant was very warm that night, making it uncomfortable to sit and linger over coffee. But we will return!

We came for an early Sunday dinner when parking can be found easily and there is less of a crowd. Typical bistro ambience with attentive service. My only qualm is that the lighting in the restaurant makes it difficult to read the menu. The daylight filtering into the restaurant was not helping as the overall restaurant was just plain dark. If it was to create the mood, then you can decide yourself.....The tables are close together so come early enough so that you won't feel crowded and can be heard above the din. The steak tartare here is excellent. Filling and the side of fries was well prepared and presented. The bill at the end can set you back so be prepared for the sticker shock. For the four of us we easily came close to $200.00 and only one of us had wine! The food was very good so for that special occasion-go for it!

I started off with the Onion Soup ($11) which I felt was one of the worst that I have ever had. My Onion Soup had little onion flavor and I thought it did not have a pleasing taste. The cheese on top of that soup had little to no taste (perhaps due to the soup, with its cheese on top, staying under a heating fixture too long before my waiter picked it up). The Skate Fish ($28) main course that I had did not come close to the best that I have ever had.

My fiance is Belgian and I found Le Singe Vert while looking for French restaurants near our hotel (6th btw 29 & 30). Although it was a bit of a walk on a brisk night we were not disappointed. If you arrive before 7pm they have a great $35 prix fix menu. We did not arrive in time to take advantage of that but one of the entrees caught my fiance's eye and he was thrilled. Quenelles de Brochet - which was a crawfish/pike/croquette like dish. He loved this when he was home and was thrilled to find it here. I had a small bite and it was tasty but for him it was pure heaven! I decided on the CÔTE DE PORC PANÉ - breaded organic pork chop, w/ mixed greens, caramelized onions, shoestring potatoes...I wished there were a few more shoestring potatoes but the pork chop was butterflied and so tender and tasty. The breadcrumbs were not over powering and the delicate sauce on the side was a perfect addition. My only complaint was that it took over 10 minutes for them to bring my vodka drink. My fiance had just about finished his white wine by the time my drink arrived. They have plenty of staff so not really sure what happened there. We loved the restaurant—one of those little store fronts that you pass by and don't give a second look but this one was a great find for us.

Stopped by here for brunch and were able to get a spot outside so could bring our dog. Ordered the pate and escargots. Both were very good.

I have found this neighborhood bistro extremely enjoyable with every visit. The food is always fantastic, wait staff pleasant and crowd delightful. The steak frites are fabulous - added bonus for really great fries, but the skate is dynamite. Also great for a Sunday brunch - sit outside and watch the show go by, and have some truly good dishes.

Warm, homey, friendly, with a superb and varied menu. We were 15 min early for our reservation, so stopped at the bar, and while the bartender was happy to provide whatever we wanted, he also made some terrific suggestions (St. Germain & champagne). I heard him offering tastes of several red wines to another patron who was unsure. Throughout the night, service was prompt but never rushed--in fact, once we'd finished our meals (steak frites; saffron moules frites; sauteed octopus; canard roti a la orange), dessert (apple tart), and espresso, our waiter seemed to make a point of backing off. How often does a restaurant this busy let you digest and relax? We had to ask the man filling and refilling our water to ask our waiter for the check, which arrived in seconds. We'll definitely make this a regular stop whenever we visit NYC.

had a fabulous pre-theater meal, loved the salad nicoise, the chocolate fondant, the service, and the atmosphere -- a little bit of Paris in Chelsea.

It's Paris without a passport. Fix price lunch at under $20 in NYC...what could be wrong? Service was top Shelf. Bar great drinks. A real find.

I went there twice for lunch, food was very good, sat at bar, had a couple of Petra drafts. Reminded me of Paris when squinting. I was able to practice my French as well, a bonus! Good friendly service in busy Chelsea. I will be going there for other meals next time, and I suggest you do too, if you are in the area. They also have cabaret some evenings, in a French vein, of course. Allez!

Le singe vert is a nice cozy, frenchy, neighborhood bistro. Great wines, delicious charcuterie and cheese to enjoy at the bar for an after work drink. Also, I went for full dinner this week at Singe Vert. I had the artichoke salad, an amazing steak tartare, a delicious chef's fish special "red snapper with heirloom tomatoes and snap peas" and paired with great Blanc des Blancs, Malbec and Sancerre respectively; all recommended by the highlight of the night: our server Michael. Great French accented atmosphere! A jewel in Chelsea.

Endive salad special sounded great but we did not taste the blue cheese or pears that were promised and it is too dark to see them so we assumed they were not there. Trout was overcooked, scallops in bechamel - the sauce ruined great scallops, rabbit stew was ok. Onion soup was excellent. Beer was expensive as was the wine, so much so that two wine lovers passed on ordering wine. Waiters were very attentive. Most expensive meal in New York trip and it rated last of 4. Lots of better restaurants to choose from.

If Le Coucou is the new haute hangout for the BCBG set, for the past generation Le Singe has been the perfect rest stop for the flâneurs among us. With six sidewalk tables under its red awning, sippers and nibblers can comfortably watch the 7th Avenue parade go by in a place whose interior seems totally unaware of its Chelsea neighbors---although I suspect they all know, love and frequent the place! Just inside the door is a small b&w photo of Papa Hemingway. I have no idea why the photo is there, or if he actually went there, but he should have. Le Singe Vert is the kind of place he wrote about and that we all carry around somewhere in the backpacks of our memories. But you don’t need anyone’s endorsement to realize this is nostalgia center for all your fantasy bistro comforts. Haute it is not, bien dans sa peau is its zone. For a walk-in weekday late lunch, I pretty much had the place to myself and ran the menu of all my favorites. Starting with a perfect French 75, I went to a glass of very serviceable Corbieres with the cassoulet ($27) finishing with a dose of a middle-aged calvados (C. Drouin, my favorite)…just to keep the thin apple tart company. But you can get steak or moules frites, a croque-monsieur, and of course escargots. Or why not an omelet? Happily, skate wing seems to be a staple. And just like the food menu, the brief carte du vins is easy and nostalgic featuring Muscadet, Sancerre, Cahors and Chinon at the ready. Bottle prices range from $44-90. A three course prix-fixe lunch at $21 seemed like the deal to steal. Bistro décor completes the effect: lace curtains, a couple of fans, traditional mirrors to make the room look bigger, and de rigueur broken checkerboard linoleum tiles on the floor. Fresh flowers rule. Back to Hemingway, there are certainly enough Pernod bottles and gear around to have satisfied even his prodigious thirst. Absinthe binging is the reference for the restaurant’s name, the green monkey being one hallucinatory vision associated with the legendary spirit. Mercifully, no monkeys figure in the décor and none joined me for this very pleasurable lunch. But who knows…the bar is calling me for next time!

My first time at this restaurant, and I would love to go back. The branzino entree, order from their specials, was outstanding, cooked and served with spinach and lobster risotto. Good sized portion, but not overwhelming. Fairly priced. The frites, ordered a la carte, were also outstanding. The bread was great. The service was attentive and not overbearing.

It's comfortable, it's fun, it's very New York and very French. I love it. Food is fine, drinks always come amiably from the bartenders and waiters are sweet and helpful. Le Singe is a gem, truly. The crowd is laid back and the atmosphere is welcoming. Alone or with others, never a problem. But please don't go--don't want great places like this changed by too much traffic.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Nice selection of wine and drinks. The pâté campagne appetizer was very nice. The mussels Provençales were quite enjoyable and the frites were delicious. The service was great. Well worth the visit!

What a cool local spot to have some wonderful food, drinks and meet interesting locals. I try to stop as often as I can when traveling to NYC

This was our second visit to this wonderful spot. If you did not know you were looking at Seventh Avenue you would think you were in Paris. Lovely, sunny day with sidewalk tables and doors opened. Our waitress was French, the lady behind the bar was French and two of the customers were French. Two of us had the omlette with fries and small salad. We ordered more fries just because they were so good. Would love to go back for dinner sometime.

Stopped in for lunch the day after Snowzilla and enjoyed a warm welcome, impeccable service and lovely food. Had a chicken cobb-type salad, which was fresh and tasty.

We go here every time we’re in New York. Paris without crossing the Pond. We start with les escargots, enjoy a good salad, and always have skatewing! Sublime. Try Lillet on ice with a twist of lemon as an aperitif. Wines are good and generally affordable ( for NYC).

I remember nothing from this meal, honestly. It has that bland French bistro decor that is everywhere, the waiters are young and unknowledgeable, the food was unremarkable, and the wine was overpriced. Meh.

We stumbled into this kind of apprehensively for brunch. Other than the tables being very crowded together, we were delighted. The food was better than expected and very reasonably priced. The wait staff got out orders correct(which shouldnt be noteworthy but lets face it- it is) and did not rush us at all when we finished our meal and there were people starting to accumulate in the bar waiting for tables. All in all a very good brunch.

The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. I’ve added it to my list of places to return to when I go back to NYC. It’s cozy feel and quaint atmosphere was enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Great food! Great service and I loved this place. It's loud and cozy. Great wine and great food and service was excellant!

I have been going to this place for years and generally enjoy my meals there. Just yesterday I noticed that the portion of meat was tiny even by European standards but I don’t know if that was an exception or the new normal. The fries are great and wine selection by the glass is also good. The name has. Hanged so I’m assuming the ownership has as well. I personally enjoy the skat exist though the preparation of that has changed somewhat. All in all it’s a charming neighborhood spot worth a try.

This place was a couple of blocks from our hotel and we stumbled upon it looking for another restaurant that had been recommended to us. Classic French bistro type meals at a reasonable price for NYC. The food was good. The service was pleasant and fast.

We three dined here last Sunday. We loved the very French ambiance, and the warm and attentive service. I had the gazpacho and soft shell crab salad specials. Both were very good. The others had pork chops specials, which they found very pleasing. We had no dessert. We told the staff we will return when next in the neighborhood, and we surely will.

A friend took me to this wonderful bistro, LeSinge Vert. I have to say, it is one of the most authentic French Bistros around. I tried escargots for the first time. Only because the " authentic" French waiter told that they remind him of Christmas dinner back home in France. They were perfectly garlicky & buttery! Steak trite was amazing too. They also have a nice selection of Moullet Frits. You Must Try The Place!
Typical French Bistro
Decent French Bistro. Good Steak Frites. Escargot could have been better. Waiter was very pleasant. Otherwise, service was a bit spotty. Pretty terrible martini.
