Disappointing!

By Harvey M |

If you are going to this restaurant for the first time, there is something important that you should know. The restaurant's street entrance is part of a LONG building that houses two restaurants, with different ownership, Left Bank is the one at the corner. If you read the reviews here on TripAdvisor, some of them will tell you enthusiastically about a certain dish that they loved. Since the menu changes often here, I don't think that you should go to the restaurant expecting to find that dish on the menu, it is best to call first and find out whether it is still on the menu. I don't like spicy food, so I did not care for the appetizer of sautéed calamari with chickpeas and harissa. My main course of whole brook trout with lentils was just okay, I have had much better elsewhere. The service was attentive and efficient. The restaurant has a low ceiling, so occasionally the conversational noise level is high. I have submitted a photo of the restaurant.

Super tasty Italian

By Michael M |

I can't say much more than this. Super tasty italian food. Pasta sublime. Cauliflower and leek soup a flavour sensation matched with a beautiful french red. Maple syrup tart with creme fraiche. To top it off this place is sooooo cheap!! Friendly and efficient staff made the night in here truly memorable for a well weary traveller.

Comfortable neighborhood spot

By renalrully |

I appreciate having Left Bank in my neighborhood. Consistent, friendly, good food, nice spot, very convenient.

Charming.....nice atmosphere on the corner

By MJames88 |

Great place we found for dinner. Quaint bar and nice dining area with open windows and view to the street. Reasonable prices on food and wine with nice bistro selections. Locally obtained produce and ingredients for the food. Staff was very friendly and gracious to have us there. I would definitely go back based on the hospitality, cleanliness, and quality.

Great aperitivo in Greenwich

By Agrodolce12 |

Modern sophisticated bar restaurant in the Greenwich area. The bar restaurant is divided in two parts: the bar and the real restaurant...but actually you can have a great dinner at the bar. The atmosphere is cool, friendly. There is a good choice of wines and cocktails, and food is excellent: we had a tartare and it was simply delicious. A great place for a first date or a romantic dinner. Service is good, they take care of their customers.

Ho hum...still waiting!

By EastCoastMomNY |

Had brunch there recently. Menu is limited but sufficient choices. Food was good, not great. Service was awful. There was 1 waiter for the room we were in and he spent his time chatting at a table rather than actually providing any level of service. This happened over the course of our meal, couldn't get salt, a spoon for our soup or even the check in order to get out of there!

Cozy, Unpretentious, Authentic Bistro in West Village

By lbpj3012 |

Really nice vibe at Left Bank. The food is excellent and prices very fair. We took advantage of the Happy hour special of one appetizer and pone pasta dish. Both choices were excellent. We also took advantage of free corkage on Sundays and Mondays. Really nice to have a great bottle of Barolo to accompany the papardelle bolognese. We have been to Left Bank 5 times and will return many more times, for sure. The only negative we had was the music. The choice of an hour of Motown was strange. I listened to so much Motown decades ago that I'm sick of it. How about some Diana Krall? She just came out with a delightful album of standards with tony Bennett. That, and millions of other contemporary ideas - jazz, too -, would be better than Motown for background music. Notwithstanding that complaint, it's a really good restaurant operating under the radar and we will return many times. Peter J Woodbury CT

Pleasant restaurant, not so special

By Randi R |

Five of us had dinner at Left Bank a few nights ago. The restaurant is beautiful and the menu was ok, nothing special. The service was good, the food was good enough.

Left Bank gets it Right

By Marshall P |

This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. The staff is knowledgable, and the menu is seasonal. The Mixology at this place is top notch. I don't usually eat pasta, but the first time me and my lady friend went. She got the pasta, and I was finally able to turn the tides and eat all of her food instead of the other way around. The revenge eating of her food might of made the pasta taste even sweeter.

Ohhh Sooo Tasty!

By D_E_GlobeAdventures |

Valentine's night dinner with the wife was a success! Left Bank is everything you've heard, and then-some. Food, service, ambiance and location were all excellent. Convenient parking garage right across the street. Can't wait to go back. I had the Mongolian Dumpling for appetizer and the braised short rib for my main course. Their Dulce de Leche eclair is to die for!

Noisy, hot, so-so food, good service

By Paul B |

The noise level was deafening; the A/C in our area was not working which was not a new occurrence ... Jam-packed and sweltering hot; food was nothing to write home about: oysters were miniscule and over-priced but tasty; Steak tartare a la Left Bank: none of what makes it tartare: no egg yolk, no capers, no scallions but the kimchee-like stuff on the side was interesting; the beef was stringy and tough like fresh (not aged) beef; the menu said the soft shells were 'fried' and, my mistake, I assumed that meant sautéed, but they we're deep fried (almost like tempura) and lacking in flavor. The bright spots were (1) the trout which as tasty (2) our server was good and (3) the wine list which was reasonable. On the whole, we wouldn't rush back anytime soon. However, given that the place was packed, a lot of people must like it.

Fantastic Food Outstanding Service!!

By Christina O |

From the moment we walked through the door we were treated like royalty!! We all thought the food was amazing and freshly prepared with care. My 12 year old told the chef/owner it was the best gnocchi he ever ate! The borscht was superb as was the house made pork sausage and pork chop. My boys both loved the maple syrup pie and the gelato (of course). The co/owner Micheline was a wonderful host perfectly attentive, the service from the rest of the staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and professional. We cannot wait to go back to NY and eat at Left Bank again. Five stars from our family!!!!!

THE PASTA MADE UP FOR EVERYTHING

By Camille D |

If it weren't for the pasta I would've given this restaurant 4 stars. We were seated about 20 minutes late (but the staff was *very* nice about it) and the place is quite crowded (not ideal for a low key romantic date). But when I ordered the bolognese and took that first bite...I dropped my fork on my napkin and couldn't open my eyes for 30 seconds. It was: SO . GOOD . Something in the spices? Or the fact that they blend pork and beef? Or the creaminess of it? I don't know, but my stomach just growled thinking about it again. My bf got the chicken, which was good too.

Delicious food

By caztravels |

Went here last night and really enjoyed the paperadelle with ragu. My date had the bass which looked nice as well. My only complaint is that our food came out very quickly and we were served our check immediately after our plates were cleared. It was the fastest dinner I've ever had and we didn't necessarily want to get out of there so fast. If they had slowed down And not rushed us, I would have rated it higher.

Great food, service and ambiance

By Catriona S |

Left Bank isn't too showy with it's decor but the ambiance is still really lovely. The food was excellent--the calamari with harissa and chick peas is especially really good. They also do a wonderful sidecar cocktail (with sugar on the rim which is a nice touch). Their maple syrup is also delicious! I should also say the prices are reasonable--not too expensive for really great food! Service was really nice, our waiter was funny and friendly. Decent wine list as well. Would definitely go again!

Excellent pasta

By tmiller461 |

Nice atmosphere and good service. The pasta was excellent! My friend had gnocchi and loved it. I had the cacio e pepe, it was delicious! In a quiet neighborhood.

Amazing food and service, my new favorite place to dine!!

By cella79 |

My husband and I tried Left Bank last spring and we are addicted!! The food and service is amazing! The staff is so friendly and great at recommending dishes. The lamb tartar and maple syurp pie a must!! Would defenitly recommend Left Bank to everyone!

Favorite neighborhood bistro

By lotsofkurls |

We love Left Bank. The staff is wonderful. Menu selections and wine pairings have always been on target. This restaurant is perfect for a first date or celebration. The noise level is a non-issue....you can hear yourself speak without shouting. Kudos to Chef Laurence and his amazing staff!

Charming and very good!

By Bi-coaster |

Love the vibe at this West Village restaurant. The menu is short, but everything is carefully prepared. The endive Caesar salad is a winner and the roast chicken is always good. Service is friendly and efficient. Can be noisy if you hit a popular time.

No Chicken

By Max D |

They supposed to have good rotisserie chicken but you can only get that for take out. That makes zero sense. The chicken sandwich is good but not the same as half or whole chicken with drumsticks. When I did get chicken for take out, are they going to prevent me from eating it there while I have a beer? I didn’t try but the chicken I got was dry and not juicy. It’s well seasoned just not well cooked. Service is really slow.

Wonderful place

By Brad465 |

Went there twice on a recent visit to New York. A very relaxed, comfortable vibe, and really high quality, simple ingredients treated well - the result is truly excellent meals. Also the wine list is excellent. The service is not 'silver', which would not suit the relaxed atmosphere, but it is very welcoming and the waiters were very informed about the menu.

Magical evening!

By East-mt |

Back in Manhattan for the first time in over a year, we decided to walk around Greenwich Village until we saw a place that looked interesting. When we stopped at Left bank the very kind hostess said we could have a spot outside, but only for 1.5 hours after we turned down an inside table (my boyfriend and I remain a little anxious even after being double vaccinated). The night was actually magical. Perfect place (their temporary outdoor patio was quite nice), the service was perfect, the small menu was ideal for us and the food was yummy (don’t miss the maple syrup pie...actually don’t miss anything on the menu). At one point a 5 piece brass band happened by (we both winced when we first saw them as we were expecting them to want our attention for a long time) and played two wonderful and abbreviated songs. At about 1:25 minutes into dinner we noticed the other group that had reserved our table must have been accommodated elsewhere as we were never rushed or made to feel anything other than an important table! What a fun re-introduction into dinner in Manhattan.

Great place to eat!

By redlazr |

We loved the atmosphere along with the wonderful food! Great appetizers and excellent wine list. The roast chicken was fantastic. Our server was excellent. We will revisit this restaurant on our next trip to New York.

Great place

By BakerNomi |

We've been here 4 or 5 times in the past few months, and every meal has been great. The food is well cooked, the drinks are excellent, the service is friendly and efficient. Very enjoyable. We're going to make this our default restaurant.

Excellent Food, Fantastic Staff..Awesome!

By Bea J |

Everybody was very friendly and welcoming! Great staff all around! The bartender was amazing. The food was fantastic everything was perfect. Would go back in a heartbeat. I hope that we can all go back in the summer!!

This is great dining and it is at extremely reasonable prices

By R Victor B |

Left Bank, which opened this past summer, has been on a steady trajectory to excellence. The food gets better and better, and it is interesting, to boot. At the same time prices have remained more than reasonable. The ambiance has also been improving with a newer, cozier atmosphere. Service is excellent, with knowledgeable waitstaff, and the owner chef and owner hostess always there.

Wine at the Left Bank

By Cocktailess |

I always try to get in a quick wine at the Left Bank in the West Village when visiting New York. The place is in a lovely quiet neighbourhood opposite a working car lot which is just peaceful to look out onto while chatting with friends. They do a great happy hour wine offer with a great selection of wines. The service is always spot on and attentive. I am aware that the Left Bank also do food on an evening and they seemed to have a steady stream of customers but I haven't tried it here yet - maybe next time. Would recommend for drinks though!

Perfect West Village spot....

By CTSimon |

Have now been twice in the last 4 weeks. Ambience was fantastic and waiter was polite and well informed about the menu (which had some new dishes). Our appetizers were perfect combination of taste and size (octopus was delicious...not sure if borscht or homemade sausage was more of a pleasant surprise). Main courses among our party were varied Mediterranean dishes. I ordered the pork chop, which I had seen someone else eat on my previous visit and was thrilled w/ it. My wife had squid that was accompanied by some beans and was similary fantastic. Pasta was delicious again (hope they bring back the roasted goat pasta dish I had on my previous visit). Perfect for couples and dates, with friendly not crowded bar to start the evening at.

Delicious good deal with great staff

By Timothy5 |

We finally found a place to park our uHaul truck and as we came out of the garage here was this place offering great meal and drink deals for happy hour from 5 to 7. Seemed like just what we needed. Attentive and thoughtful service and great food.

great food in a relaxing atmosphere, fun evening for all

By Susan K |

The pasta's are incredible, like you could only get in Italy ! Everyone at my table had different issues, some would only eat gluten free, some want meat, others had fish, and no matter what anybody had , it was all delicious. the staff is friendly and knowlegeable, and the service is friendly and not intimidating. Seems like new and regular customers are all treated well. There is a smallish menu, but something for everyone. Salads are also superb, and inventive. Wine list is good, and the deserts are fabulous, though limited. Maple syrup pie is a staple, and there are new things all the time. They are about to add brunch, and i can't wait to try that.

an enchanting evening

By ralphdel1 |

Dined here early to accommodate a theatre date. We were the only diners upon entry, but the restaurant began to fill as the evening progressed. Our meal was delightful-the waiter recommended the roast chicken and it was everything and more than represented. We were drawn to Left Bank by a Blackboard Eats promotion, but this place is worth the visit regardless of any discount.

Wonderful owners/chef, great food and a 'must have' the desert!!

By 99Sue |

My husband & I were late getting to our reservations but phoned to let them know. We ended up speaking to Micheline, one of the owners (not realizing it) and instead of getting attitude about being late, when we arrived we got one of the most romantic tables in the restaurant! The food and service was fantastic (recommended a great California wine that we loved). One of the BEST offerings on the menu is the maple syrup pie, creme fraiche desert (we usually share one desert). It is DELICIOUS!! We told the waiter we loved it and he brought us another piece. We spoke to Chef Laurence Edelman and Micheline (owners) at the end of the evening...such approachable, great people. We had a great time and despite so many restaurants to choose from in NYC, we will be going back there...at the very least for that wonderful desert.

Wonderful food, attentive service

By Corinne B |

My husband and I enjoyed dinner here. We started with the shaved Brussels sprouts (appetizer menu) and cauliflower (sides menu), which we shared. Both were excellent. Then we split the tagliatelle, which was also delicious. Nice atmosphere, attentive service, good wine list.

Excellent Food - Great Vibe

By SanFranciscoGuy634 |

Left Bank is a bit off the beaten track in the West Village. It appears to cater largely to locals. We think it's terrific. It's not jammed, so it's relaxing and almost pub-like without being a pub. Excellent and creative cooking - very seasonal. Outstanding bar. Good service. Warmly welcoming. We go often.

Stylish place with great food!

By Bi-coaster |

With its small bar, corner location with lots of glass and polished wood tables and some banquette seating, Left Bank has more style than most small restaurants of its ilk. And the food delivers at a high level as well. My endive salad with tuna was tasty and somewhat different and the roast chicken on a bed of spinach was sublime. A very generous portion and beautifully prepared and presented. My husband very much enjoyed his shaved Brussels sprouts salad and the pasta with lemon and ramps. Nice variety of wines by the glass too. Service was attentive, but not intrusive.

Sophisticated cuisine, wonderful favors

By janeaustinNY |

Left Bank is relatively new to the West Village. It has a modest menu of well-balanced choices. Three of us dined together and made an effort to sample a variety of offerings. The beet salad and artichoke salads were generous and tasty. The beet salad offered both yellow and red beets sprinkled throughout. The artichoke hearts were well hidden at the base of the plate which was filled with many interesting flavors. The sausage, buratta, and roasted tomatoes plate was simply succulent and probably the winner of the three appetizers. The paccheri pasta with pork and beef ragu was well seasoned and delicious although the price for the pasta seems steep when compared with other restaurants nearby in the Village with equally good food. The split iron chicken was flavorful with a delightful orzo with asparagus, and peas. The sea bass was generous in portion size and well prepared. An enticing offering is their 5pm to 7Pm $20 dinner which includes an appetizer and a main course, choices of which were mainly pasta. But a great deal if you want to eat early. They also have a happy hour. The normal wine list is very expensive although we had a reasonable bottle of Sicilian white, Grillo, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Of note, the chef's cooking has just been recognized by Slow Food, acknowledging the use of local and very fresh ingredients and his mastery with them.

Always Great!

By Richard N |

About six months ago we went for cocktails and dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We went back recently and it was just as enjoyable. Good service, good cocktails, good food and a good atmosphere, what more could you wish for?

Just Right For Village Dining

By LoveToTraval |

Left Bank feels like the Greenwich Village neighborhood, with its glass facade and sleek wood interior. Our service was very good, attentive, friendly, but not intrusive. The menu is creative, which is essential for New York, in my opinion. Overall, a very nice evening.

Nice atmosphere and cocktails, food was salty/lacking, service inconsistent

By NYCworldtraveler2 |

Went here for dinner with friends recently. After a poor start from a service perspective, we began with cocktails. Although their cocktails are small in size and average around $15 each (!), they were tasty. But that was the best thing about our dinner. The shaved Brussels Sprouts appetizer with grated cheese was overly salty and not very good. Serious letdown for this Brussels sprouts lover. The papardelle with pork/veal ragout was also on the salty side. Not sure why the heavy handed salt. Everything was à la carte so order side dishes if you need more food. The desserts were average - so average I don't even remember what they were. Overall I wanted this to be a good experience, but such was not to be. Sadly, I probably would only visit again for drinks in this charming Greenwich village location.

Restaurant Week visit... bit of a disappointment...

By Kimberley F |

I went for a weekday dinner during Restaurant Week, having looked up several options during my short stay in NYC. I picked Left Bank because the menu looked great, and vegetarian friendly. I ordered an heirloom tomato salad, a farfalle with mushroom ragu and a maple syrup pie for dessert. The waiter suggested the wine pairing, which I opted for. After I was settled and had ordered, the service just went downhill from there. Several waiters tended to my table but there was little consistency with the service. I was missing cutlery, and one of my wines did not arrive with the dish that it was 'paired' with. (I eventually gave up waiting and just settled the bill and left.) The tomato salad was average, and the rest of the meal was alright, but I didn't feel that it matched the price for the meal. There are many others out there that exceed the standard of both the food and the service...

Date Night Gem

By Brittany D |

I've been to Left Bank quite a few times and I've never been disappointed. We stumbled onto this place very randomly while driving around for a new dinner spot. The decor is beautiful A kind of a rustic, old school Italian type of vibe. There's definitely a romantic ambiance to it, perfect for a date night (not like a gross Tinder date night, but I mean with someone you actually value and love and enjoy spending time with). The blue lump crab cake appetizer is so insanely flavorful and cooked to perfection. The parmesan fries side served with garlic aioli is so incredibly good. But....my friends...the gnocchi...To. Die. For. It's the dish that keeps us coming back. It's made from scratch in-house and is just so fluffy, flavorful, and satisfying. Do not leave there without trying it. The service is always super pleasant and attentive, but never pushy. You will never feel rushed. Staff is always knowledgeable about the food and wine menu. I highly recommend their montepulciano (I think I spelled that right). Find this place, take a seat, get comfortable and enjoy.

A bit disappointing

By pjrackoff |

Upside - great ambiance Great burger Pretty average fish Cold Coffee Waitress w attitude - often changes everything 😞

Just turned the corner and there it was!

By Brooke C |

I went to Chelsea to go and hang out at the Spotted Pig. With a 45 minute wait time and no where to sit, I decided to walk down the street and I happened upon the Left Bank. It was nice, quiet and very roomy. I had the lamb shank and the other person I was with had the Spaghetti Carbonara... I recommend both!

New Year's Eve Dinner

By Joshua S |

Checked this place out online for NYE dinner. We made reservations for five people and the first table where they sat us was not in a good spot (tight and close to the bar and kitchen entrance.) We politely asked to be moved and they accommodated us. Very professional. Food was creative and very good. Two people ordered steak and that was fine. One ordered goat (my son loved it), my wife ordered the gnocchi (she really liked it) and I ordered the monkfish (also good). The apps (pork belly and soup) were all good, as were the complimentary snacks (salami, chicken liver and manchego). Wines were great, too. Good spot in the village. Would recommend and looking forward to trying the full menu down the road.

Very comfortable

Sweet place in the west village. Not too old. Food was very good as was the service. Good menu. Nice bar to chill at while waiting for friends.

Perfect New York Dining

By bsbernstein |

As a New Yorker, it's always nice to find a place that lives up to the reputation of what good New York dining is supposed to be about. This place hits the nail on the head. Fresh, locally-sourced food builds on traditional American fare and does something special with it. And for the right price. This is on of the better value-for-money restaurants downtown.

your perfect local joint !

By KyleWV |

Not only the food is always delicious, the staff would always make you feel like home. Seasonal menu with seasonal ingredients gives a neighbor like me never gets bored. Highly recommend !!!

Lovely food and ambiance!

By Julia M |

My boyfriend and I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Left Bank and really enjoyed it! The Flat Iron Chicken is secind to none. It's a huge portion easily shareable. We started with the brussels sprouts with hazelnuts - delicious! The service was also excellent. Thanks. We will be back!

Nice ambience

By Dora C |

The restaurant is in a lovely spot in the West Village and it's lovely inside. Food was very good but I found it very pricey for a few appetizers but then again we did drink a lot! The only thing that bugged me is that the waitress gave us the bill before we asked for it. It's obvious she wanted us out.

Delicious food in West Village

By MICHAEL ASHWORTH |

Suprisingly delicious food given the ever changing menu style at this place over the last few year. We had the swordfish and the steak after starters on kale ceasar and Mongolian dumplings. Wine by the carafe at decent prices. Great service but not overwhelming made it a pleasant experience all round. Doesn't seem busy so drop by any time and enjoy.

Pre Fixe - Perfecto

By jbgshrink |

I knew nothing about this place although I live in the immediate neighborhood but went there with a friend who suggested that we try their early pre fixe. What a find this turned out to be ! Their two course pre fixe is available between 5 and 7 for $20. and when we arrived around 6 the place was empty (but not for long). The space is pleasant with light wooden floors and tables which are not on top of one another. Our waitress was charming and helpful but not intrusive. We began with a $6. cocktail. I had a great drink with vodka and ginger. We then looked at the menu which was comprised of a substantial number of wonderful sounding appetizers. The entrees were mostly creative pastas. I ordered the onion soup first. It was a very large bowl of deep flavored onions and broth with several thick slices of bread topped with gruyere cheese. It was great. I didn't finish all of the bread as I knew that it would make me too full for the following course. My friend had the roasted beet salad which she really enjoyed. I then had the Capricci pasta which is a cork screw pasta (cooked perfectly) in a sauce of arugula pesto and guanciale (bits of pork belly) topped with just a little grated cheese. What perfection. I would order it again in a flash. The Paccheri, which is a pork and beef ragu was apparently also a winner. We then shared a slice of carrot cake for dessert. The portion was generous and it also didn't disappoint. The cake was dense filled with raisins and pineapple and had a marvelous cream cheese frosting. We both agreed that the Left Bank was a real find and that we would happily return. The dishes were made with fresh ingredients and with care. By the time we left the restaurant was 3/4 full and buzzing and everyone undoubtedly was enjoying their dinners.

A pretty, clamorous restaurant, with a high food concept, but....

By Suzanne S |

We've been to the Left Bank twice. Once at 5:30 PM which was fine, quiet and the chicken was excellent moist, memorable as were the vegetable and the rest. So we made a reservation with friends for 8PM a few weeks later. A big mistake. The place was filled to capacity. We were told there had been several "tardy parties" as it was raining and cold, and that we'd have to wait for our table. The tiny bar there was already packed, so we had to stand in a clump and wait for 35 minutes. Finally our table was cleared, but seating is so tight you can barely get to your table, nor pull out your chair to sit down. Once seated we waited another 10 minutes for a waiter to come, he came took our drink orders, gave us menus, returned 15 minutes later with our drinks, and to take our order. After another ten minutes we asked a bus boy for some bread. Finally after another 25 minutes the food arrived. The chicken dish I had remembered so fondly was not what I received,What I go was rubbery an tasteless, like it had been microwaved. And what was worse, our guests who'd ordered the steak couldn't eat it, it was so tough and stringy and salty. One sent hers back, her husband struggled through the meat. My husband lucked out, his trout was good. Then we waited for dessert. The Maple Syrup Pie, sounds lush and fabulous, but was (after 15 minutes of waiting) a thin 11/2 inch sliver of ok tasting pie. The first waiter was well mannered, by the end of the meal we were in the hands of a waiter who clearly thought he was destined for finer things and his disdain for us, our questions and his job were palpable. Any restaurant can have a bad night, and our first early dinner experience there was good, but I doubt we'd be returning here.

Attractive Space, Attractive Drinks, Attentive Service

By Skolenator |

Alas, the food was somewhat less impressive. I had the Restaurant Week menu, and found both the soup and the main dish (chicken) to be WAY too salty. Desserts were good enough. I would come back for drinks, but would probably choose to dine elsewhere, afterwards.

perfect date night

By PDXStocks |

We felt so lucky to find this restaurant. I searched for various restaurants and decided we would give this a try. It was perfect. Chicken was perfectly cook and prepared. Salads and appetizers were spot on. We even had grandma's Maple Syrup pie which was sublime, granted a sugar fest, but so delicious. We can't wait to come back to NYC and wander down to the Village to visit this restaurant. It's cozy, romantic and the food was amazing.

Great brunch in lovely atmosphere.

By Susan S |

It was for brunch on a Saturday. We were a large group and the place accommodated us well with a long table. Service was low key but that is what this group wanted. I had eggs Benedict thing with smoked salmon and smoked fish--all on two potato pancakes. I ate every morsel. Everyone else at the table seemed to be happy with their choices too.

Fantastic Food and Great Ambience

By Amanda P |

We visited this restaurant during a holiday in New York and it was a great way to start a holiday! We visited on a weekday night and though we had not booked, as we were en route to another restaurant, we spied this one and since it looked inviting, we entered. They were able to accommodate us and were very hospitable indeed. The place was a quite dim and we had trouble reading the menus, but were not frustrated by it, since the ambiance was so pleasant. We ordered a selection of vegatarian and non vegatarian and evrything was delicious. Tough we did not order any desserts, I'm sure they would have been very good as well. The service was very good, though a little slow at times, but evry request was dealt with, with a smile. In fact they gave us a glass of wine we had not ordered and then left it for us at the table and did not charge us for it!!! Definitely a reason to go back. I think that this restaurant works well for an intimate dinner, a special occasion and just a get together with friends - which is why we were there... it works on many levels.

Great small place with wonderful food!

By Bi-coaster |

This has become one of our favorite West Village restaurants! Their winter Caesar salad (endive and kohlrabi with an anchovy dressing) is tasty and most satisfying and the tagliatelle with a beef and pork rage perfect comfort food for this cold weather. The sauce has no tomato in it which was a bit of a surprise, but, oh, it hit the spot. And the roast chicken with greens is a regular on their menu and a favorite choice of ours. Host is a very pleasant gentleman and the wait staff are helpful and efficient.

Excellent food & cocktails

Spent a very enjoyable evening here with my sister. Loved the atmosphere & decor. The food was excellent, lovely cocktails, service attentive but discreet. Will definitely return when back in New York!

The 4 of us had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant last Wednesday; we were warmly greeted at the door and shown a lovely table. Quite the menu and amazing food!

Good modern American

By IamZozo |

We arrived after watching a play in the fringe festival. Nice place with nice food. The Fricasse was excellent even if it is not clear how does it relate to the Tunisian one. The Gnocchi was very good and better than the chicken

Happy hour : well worth a visit

By downunder2207 |

Went to happy hour 4-7 pm 2 courses $20 plus wine $5 and beer $2. Good food , good service. They have a nice bar to sit at as well.

Good service, good and inventive food

By FNANY |

Dinner was a great surprised. The place is a good local restaurant with a great mix of clients from large groups to couples and friends. The service is welcoming and professional. They truly seem pleased to have you as customers. The menu is diverse and includes fares for vegetarian (great pasta), meat lovers (their burger with caramelized onion is a must). Loved their a fredo ice cream with an espresso on top. Will go back.

A great neighborhood , quiet place!

By BONNIE B |

I love this place. It is quiet...YES there is a quiet restaurant in this noisy city! The food is good. I had a delicious, juicy hamburger and good glass of Happy Hour wine which was very satisfying. The wait staff are accommodating and friendly. GREAT PLACE! A good neighborhood feeling.

Cozy Bistro

By jupiterman3000 |

Wonderful dinner experience with good service and satisfying meals. The split chicken au jus entree was the perfect comfort food without feeling too heavy. The onion soup starter was amazing. Good wine selections. Flourless chocolate cake dessert did not meet expectations by not having the "fresh out of the oven" taste. Will want to visit again.

Brilliant friendly service and best Gnocchi dish ever.

I’d just arrived from England and I visited with my friend - who had joined me from Canada. We decided to have a drink at Left Bank and saw the special menu. The Special menu was like a Happy Hour Menu with different bundles of food and drink offers. I selected the Gnocchi and wine for $20 or $25 . The Gnocchi was delicious with generous portions. The waiter was really knowledgable about the menu and wines. It was late September and we sat at an out side table.

Modest French Restaurant in West Village

By Dr_J_F_M |

This now popular, casual bistrot is noisy and bustling. The food is only so-so, and not especially French...risotto, ravioli, Polish sausages, etc. Brussels sprouts salad was abundant, but dry and tough, while the beet salad was abundant and tastier. The main courses of chicken, sausages or risotto were only average.

EXCELLENT MEAL!

By alexandra s |

I came here with my husband and brother and sister in law on Friday and we had an amazing meal. We had a reservation and were seated right away by the hostess (sometimes in NYC restaurants they still make you wait even if you have a reservation). Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menu. I ordered the trout and the Brussel sprouts. Both were delicious however they were a bit heavy on the salt on the Brussel sprouts – I’d still recommend them however. The dessert we had was absolutely amazing – we had the bread pudding and the pumpkin pie – both incredibly memorable. Keep in mind that it can get pretty pricey. It ended up being $100pp for us – granted we ordered several drinks and many oysters. It’s a cozy restaurant and I will be back!

Smart trendy village restaurant. Formal but not stuffy

By roggy2016 |

This popular restaurant prides itself on well presented good food and more traditional fare than many trendy places in NY. Not as 'packed in' as many bistros in the area and with attentive and un-rushed service it made for a pleasant evening. Although eating out in NY is expensive this was value for money and needed booking in advance.

Major disappointment

By Frenchaucoeur |

Our dinner at the Left Bank was a major disappointment--and overpriced. The trout was heavily salted, and the steak was extremely tough to the point of being hard to eat. The apple crumble dessert was mostly sweetened crumbs, with not much apple and little apple taste. A $60 bottle of Moulin a Vent was bitter and unappealing--and the espresso was literally undrinkable, it too was so bitter. There was no bread and no amuse-bouche. The noise level was appalling. I know noisy is trendy, but this was just awful--all four of us left with headaches. The dining room is small and all hard surfaces, and we drowned in the din. Service was ok and friendly, but it couldn't compensate for a meal that none of us will want to replicate.

A hidden gem in the West Village

Had a work dinner at this lovely spot in the event dining room (which has its own bathroom!). Food was delicious. Brussel sprout salad, steak frites (very large cut of beef) and maple syrup pie. Quaint ambiance. If you are in this area make a point of stopping!

I liked it !

By IHATERASELIK |

We pre-booked this restaurant prior to arriving for a weekend stay in NYC. Unfortunately we arrived in NYC very late in the afternoon and were dog tired from the flight, so we did not give the restaurant our best attention. However, they did give us their best attention. The service was very attentive, all questons about the menu were explained in detail, even though we were half asleep! The quality of the food was very good, but alas we could not enjoy a desert, our beds were calling, and we left after our mains. The only minor complaint I would have about Left Bank is the lack of lighting. It is very difficult to read the menu in the candle light, and we were not the only ones having this problem. Various people could be seen using the table candle and even the torch app off their i-phones to allow them to read the menu. That said, I would return, which is always a good sign of a decent restaurant.

surprising good food that the menu does not do justuce to in terms of explaining

By chrisdane |

I was set for a disappointment as we wandered into the restaurant and when the menu arrived none of the food appealed to me based on the menu. Boy was I surprised...All six of our entrees were excellent....what a very pleasant surprise... They just need to do a better job of explaining the food on the menu (think: marketing)

Rising Star in Greenwich

By AndrewCharles11 |

The Left Bank is probably one of the best new restaurants in Greenwich Village. I have been there twice on two different trips and each time the dinner was excellent, prepared with a wonderful selection of fresh ingredients. The menu is not expansive but covers each of the food groups. The dinner had healthy portion sizes with nice presentation. The decor is simple and spacious. Loved the natural light (it's located on a corner) What I liked the best was that it was a relaxing, casual evening with the friendliest restaurant staff in the city. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a quiet evening in a friendly place with great food.

I wish I had more thumbs to hold up!

Went for an early dinner on a Wednesday evening. I knew that the menu is always changing because Chef Edelman will only serve fresh, seasonal ingredients. That's one of the reasons I wanted to eat here. I was not disappointed. For an appetizer, I had oysters, both East & West Coast varieties. The plump morsels were shucked perfectly and had that ocean brininess that I love. I was fortunate to be there one of the few weeks that Soft Shell Crabs were available. They were melt-in-your-mouth tender and seasoned to perfection, served with a delicious ragu of tomatoes and peppers. I could have eaten a bowl of the ragu and been happy! My friend had the calamari, which is one of her favorites at Left Bank. I took her word for how wonderful they were, as I am not a fan of calamari anyway or anywhere! For dessert our group shared 3 items from the dessert menu, the Tiramisu, Maple Pie and Cheesecake with Berries. All were wonderful. The Tiramisu was the lightest and creamiest I have ever tasted. The cheesecake was also perfectly creamy and combined with the berries macerated in Marsala, just sweet enough to satisfy. The Maple Pie was interesting. It's quite sweet and you definitely know it's made with Maple Syrup, so it only takes a few bites to fill your sweet tooth. If you want to try it, plan on sharing it. When I go back, I will skip the Maple Pie. I've heard great things about the homemade pasta, so next time Pasta will definitely be one of the dishes I order. Service was very friendly, efficient and seamless. When the place fills up, it can be a little noisy, but all around you will hear people having a great time. I'm not sure why some people thought it was a little pricey. I felt that the prices were reasonable for the quality of the ingredients and the size of the portions. Look at the menu online before you go. Paying in the $20-$28 dollar range for a delicious, fresh, regionally sourced entree is pretty standard at a quality restaurant. Plus, they offer an Early Bird menu for $25 that gives you an Appetizer and Pasta Entree. That's quite a deal! Give Left Bank a try. I feel pretty sure you will have a wonderful meal and fun experience.

Never again. Complete lack of compassion, empathy, and basic customer service

By lovebeachsurf |

Never again. For someone who purports to care about sustainable dining, Micheline Gaulin, the owner, showed a complete lack of compassion, empathy, listening skills, and basic customer service during my last visit. Micheline threatened to throw out my party, including a guest in a wheelchair due to a recent surgery, for simply asking about our table a 3rd time on a rainy Friday night in December. As a resident of the neighborhood, I was hopeful of making Left Bank a standby – I decided to invite a bunch of my friends for drinks and bites there. I made the reservation with the manager, in person, and told him specifically that people would be trickling in between 630-9pm. I then called and double-checked with Colleen, their reservation manager, to confirm. When I arrived at 630pm, I noticed that the table we reserved was occupied. I told the manager it was ok since my guests hadn't gotten there yet. But when they had by 730pm, I went up this new woman in front, Micheline Gaulin, and asked about the table. She was very rude and told me I needed to wait and since my reservation was at 630pm and my party hadn’t “completed.” I said fine, but the reason we’re not complete is that my friend just had hip surgery and due to the rain, she couldn’t crutch here, but needs to be wheel-chaired- which takes longer. Before I could finish explaining the situation, she rudely cut me off and said to wait until 8pm. My friend, arrived a little before 8, in a wheelchair, carrying crutches, with her husband, who had carefully wheeled her over from their apartment. At 8:15pm, after my friend had been standing with her crutches, which by doctors orders she shouldn’t do for too long, I went back to Micheline to ask about our table. This time she cut me off again and starting accusing me of asking her other patrons to leave “Don’t you dare ask my customers to leave!” “What?” I asked, confused. “What are you talking about?” Then she said, “Leave this restaurant with your party.” I looked at her dumbfounded. I asked "You’re asking my party of 10, with a woman, in a wheelchair, to leave in this pouring rain?" She said "Yes." Finally the husband, who was watching this in disbelief, says, “We’re only trying to get my wife, who just had surgery a seat. She simply can't stand for too long.” Needless to say, my whole party was extremely disappointed at the service, the lack of compassion or even awareness of a person who was at the time disabled. None of us, whom all were residents of the neighborhood, will ever be dining here again. There is simply no heart at this establishment.

Exceptional night

By thibaut a |

Since I have discovered Left Bank last year it became very quickly one of my favorite spot in New York city for both wine by the bar and dinning experience. If you come early you will meet with some spectacular people by the bar and the staff will make you feel welcome. The wine selection is great and the cocktails are declisious. If you are coming at dinner time the chef will prepare for you some delicious dishes. If you are coming after dinner the ambiance will be as wonderful with great drinks and people. As you can imagine I love to come over there at all time of the night (from happy hours to dinner to after dinner) and i always have a wonderful time. All my friends and clients who came to this phenomenal restaurant are all coming back and introduce it to their friends and clients. I love this place

Gets better and better

By deepoceansw1 |

The owner/chef Laurence has created a real classic - and he's always monitoring the detail. Someone spends a LOT of time lighting candles, so you have an atmosphere that is romantic and special. The food is excellent. The staff are sharp, and really efficient. The tables are well-spaced (so you're not having dinner with people 2 inches away). The bar staff make imaginative cocktails. The outside has really beautiful flowers, and above all, this is a place that is really cared about. It's not cheap, nor is it stupidly expensive. They seem to have a number of regulars, and look after them well. I can't recommend it enough.

A Neighborhood Gem

By susannamacomb |

We just came from yet another enjoyable meal at Left Bank in the West Village. We go regularly and always leave happy with the entire experience. This is a French American bistro with THE best burger EVER ---- far better than the nearby famous Spotted Pig’s burger. We love the creamy polenta in chicken jus with parmesan (really yum!), and often order the daily specials. The salads are great. The happy hour between 5-7 with FRESH oysters and wine can’t be beat both for value and quality. For dessert I love the affogato and tiramisu. The atmosphere is lovely, elegant, warm---yet laid back ---not pretentious in any way. I always like the music. The chef and part owner, Lawrence, is really on top of things, and is the nicest guy. He cares and goes out of his way to reach out to customers. In fact, the entire wait staff is attentive and hospitable. This place is well run, period. Go, you won’t regret it.

Sophisticated choices in Greenwich Village

By harobed1a |

Pleasing range of choices satisfied three very different diners in a quiet, intimate atmosphere. Prices are on the high side, but not out of line with the neighborhood. Service was excellent.

Great place...great staff

By AndrewCharles11 |

Really enjoyed the staff, food and ambience. Not pretentious at all.Focusing on fresh ingredients. Little hard to find on my first trip...but easier when went back again.

Well prepared, fresh ingredients. Quiet!

Limited farm fresh French. Ate outside for birthday dinner. Great service, good wine, not rushed. Quiet as ate outside. We had roasted chicken- very social. Trout was meaty and sauced well. Try Brussel sprouts salad. Excellent, fresh.

Neighborhood Gem

By K1mM1ller |

This is my neighborhood go-to. The food is always spot on, so I never hesitate to recommend it when we have friends in town visiting. The menu changes seasonally and the wine list is constantly updated as well. Prices are very reasonable and I love the ambiance--particularly when you go on a less crowded night. My husband and I often go on Sunday nights as it's BYO/no corkage. We've also been in for brunch and had good experiences as well. The brunch menu is interesting, with more options than your typical omelet or pancakes. My only negative is that service can be a tad slow at times, but regardless it's always super friendly. The woman that is often the hostess on the weekends has got to be the nicest woman in Manhattan!

Excellent dinner and service

By JimmyJazz99 |

My friend and I went here prime time on a Friday night and, given its high Zagat rating, we were surprised that we had no trouble getting a table. The food was excellent. We ordered three things. The Brussel sprouts were not whole but shaved and served with a nice dressing and crunchy things (either nuts or dried chick peas). I never had sprouts this way and loved the flavor. My friend enjoyed her kale salad. I ordered the orecchiette with chicken, a combination I never saw before, and it was spectacular. The pasta was quite large and seemed homemade. The shaved/grated Parmesan on top was flavorful. All together one of the best pastas I’ve had. It was a large portion, too, but I was sure to eat every bite. Service was also great: efficient and pleasant without being overbearing. Our waiter recommended a cocktail from the menu (with tequila and grapefruit juice) and I really liked it. Expertly made. In sum, I’d highly recommend this restaurant which is on a nice corner in the West Village.

Comfortable and delicious

By hopfrog |

I went with a friend. The staff was very friendly (well, except at the bar, when I arrived early, and it took 10 minutes for the bartender, 2-3 feet away, to acknowledge my presence, even with a glance). We got a comfortable corner seat, and we liked the fact that several families were soon seated nearby -- apparently regulars, always a good sign. The place got pleasantly full, but never got noisy; we were able to chat throughout without having to raise our voices. For appetizers, we got the oysters and the steak tartare. The steak tartare was unadorned -- no capers, onions, egg yolk, etc. -- which led my companion to compare it to the Lebanese kibbe naya, a favorite, it happens, of hers as well as mine. Then we got the monk fish and the chicken. I thought both were excellent, and the chicken was especially wonderful. The menu is small, and the appetizers are more varied than the mains. We tried all four white wines that were available by the glass. This was a bit of a departure, since both of us usually go for reds. None was anything to write home about, but none was bad either. We had the simplest dessert, ice cream with espresso on it, which was fine, and I had an espresso as well, which was very good. In summary, we'd go back; The Left Bank is just what a Greenwich-Village restaurant is supposed to be: warm, informal, comfortable, and delicious.

Really good atmosphere in this cool and stylish eaterie.

By 415John |

Left Bank is a great place to meet with friends and enjoy a leisurely meal. We had to wait around for 20 minutes before our table came free but it was worth the wait. I had one of two chicken dishes which were well prepared and a bit different. The desserts were truly irresistible. The wine list was interesting but pricey. Overall, a lovely evening in a restaurant of great charm.

Surprised

The early bird drink specials, pate, and atmosphere was awesome. Classy, professional, and awesome staff made you feel welcome and it wasn't pretentious. The brussel sprouts and pate were great. It was my first time there and enjoyed it.

Cute Cosy Bar in the Village

By Cocktailess |

Came to the Left Bank for a couple of glasses of Red Wine on a cold night. We were worried we might not be able to get in as they do serve food as well but we were welcomed here with open arms. The place is candlelit and has a nice cosy vibe with great music playing. The wine list is very extensive and there are plenty of seats, counters to sit, enjoy the wine and watch the people go by - which is exactly what we did!

Good Restaurant Choice in Greenwich Village

By psr707070 |

Left Bank has the right combination of a wide variety of food choices, well prepared dishes and great service. We dined as a group of five people and everyone enjoyed their dinners. My dish was pasta with ricotta cheese and was delicious and well seasoned. The wine choices are extensive and the bread brought to our table was hot and tasty. The restaurant is near Bleeker St. But it's a little hard to find- but it's definitely worth finding and dining there.

Love it!

By Lauren S |

I'm going to admit that we tried this place for dinner when we were in NYC for only a couple of nights on the recommendation that Zach Bragg had his birthday their. Judge at will, it was totally the right the decision. The location is on a gorgeous west village corner, the ambience delightful, the food delicious and the service top notch. It isn't cheap, as you would expect for all of the above, but worth every cent. It allowed us to feel momentarily like New Yorkers who know what we were doing! To top it all off, I left a feedback card expressing my delight and subsequently got an email from the chef/ co-owner to say thanks for coming. I'm going to choose to believe it was actually from him (who has the time?!?) as quite frankly it was a lovely touch. Go, you won't regret I!

A Cold Night in the Village

By R_NYUSA |

Hoping to find a nice warm restaurant on a cold night, the only heat seem to be from the candle on the table which kept my scarf on all night. A noisy and tight seating did not provide for easy conversation with friends. The food was healthy, but little taste and the portion size left me hungry. The wait staff seemed to keep each other busy rather than spending time paying attention to the tables. Heard good things which is why this was one of the more disappointing restaurants downtown. Did not stick around for dessert.

Fantastic

Loved the food and the atmosphere. Waitress knew the menu and the wine, great help and not intrusive. The food was excellent. Best meal I’ve had after being in New York and Connecticut for 10 days.

epitome of west village dining

phenomenal menu. chic decor. quality service. engaging atmosphere. and, one more time, a phenomenal menu.

Delightfully delicious!

By Dartravelgirl |

Our niece lives down the street from Left Bank. While visiting her, we decided on this restaurant because of the close proximity to her apartment. So glad we decided to eat here. The menu changes weekly and the menu is not extensive but has nice selection. I had the pork chops. I typically do not order pork chops when dining out as usually they are dry. Not at Left Bank. Delightfully Delicious! Left Bank is worth a visit.

Nice balancing act

By Kejoki |

We've been here half a dozen times. The pricing is mid to high for some of the items, but they are always well prepared and well executed. I don't think we've had a single dud for their menu. I do appreciate that the menu is simple and doesn't have a million items on it, but the menus tend to be a little "meat heavy", which may be a problem for parties with vegetarians and vegans.

Party of 18

By BillGinsburg |

An old friend had a birthday party there for a group of 18 people. In that 18 people there were at least 12 "foodies" and several people who could cook for a living. We their pasta, steak, fish, dumplings, and several other things. Each one was better than the one before and it didn't matter where your started. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. I would call there prices moderate. Folks, this is lower Manhattan and GOOD. Can't expect a give away.
