Incredibly rude experience

By frederick b |

Cut my finger on a nail sticking out on my chair. They ignored me until I finally got to to ask for a bandaid. Hostess came back 10 minutes later and slapped a bandaid on the table and kept on walking. No apology. No concern. Wouldn't eat there again for free! PS this o cured o er a year ago. My previous review was deleted.

The service was spot on snd the food was even better. Tasty Turkish delights well made snd spiraling to the eye was highest ratings gur us, They do not have decaffeinated chicken fee was the only drawback but pluses were many. Open only for dinner it suited our Early bird temperament. Try it snd find out nice it could be fir you as well.

Beware

By Joejacobs2014 |

We set a reservation for 8 which included 4 children under 12 years of age, 5 to 12, and 4 adults. This dinner was to congratulate our grandchildren on school graduation as well as a 12th birthday. One week after the reservation was created and 2 days prior to the dinner they called us to inform us of a $75 minimum for 8 people on Friday nights including. We could not work out a middle ground. They were unforgiving!!!

Dinner

We had dinner last night with friends at Leyla’s. Going for Turkish food for me is always a treat but this was even more so. The handmade pide was exceptional as was the eggplant caviar. I had a favorite- monti as my main curse but this was a bit different. It was made with eggplant and all vegetarian. Melted in my mouth. We finished with Turk kahve - Turkish coffee and baklava. Just outstanding. Bravo, Leyla! The Turkish white wine was also fabulous. Çok güzel olmuş 😋

Very Beautiful & Food is Okay

By haknyc |

Leyla is a new Turkish restaurant on the Upper West Side of NYC. We went for dinner with friends on a Sunday night. There are many tasty appetizers like the Greek Salad, Fava Bean Bruschetta and Vegetarian Pide. It was enough to share among 5 people. We also shared 4 main dishes which were Freekeh Risotto, Lamb Burger and Falafel and Parmesan Encrusted Chicken. The risotto was strange, the burger was okay, the falafel was not great and the chicken was fine. When we go back (and we WILL go back) we will order more appetizers. The staff is incredibly nice and knowledgeable about the menu.

A new mediterranean star on the ups nyc

This a spanking new beautiful venue. The staff is warm and welcoming. The servers are knowledgeable and helpful. The cocktails are innovative and the wines good and reasonably priced. The food is excellent. Among our favorites were Eggplant Caviar,Zucchini fritters and Branzino.Georg was a fabulous server

Wonderful food is perfect proportions, served on gorgeous plates.

The food, ambience, and drinks are amazing! The risotto was some of the best I've ever eaten. The special ice cream is "to die for." Dinner was our only quiet, peaceful meal in Manhattan over a 5-day period. The service was the only thing we found curiously lacking. We had a 5 p.m. reservation and arrived 5 minutes before. We were forbidden to enter and sit at the bar. We were discouraged from sitting at their outside table. And I was clearly limping, with a cane. Our waitress announced that she had a headache and frequently disappeared for long stretches, but was quite pleasant and conversational. Still go for the food and ambience. The tiny garden out back looked just wonderful, as well. It is probably a risk if you are a celiac.

Still excellent!

One year later and the food was still excellent. Great ambience at a cozy location in the Upper West Side. Highly recommended and would return.

Welcoming, pleasant atmosphere where we had great food, service and a delightful evening of easy conversation. We very very pleased with the wine selection that accompanied out lovely dinner. Also, we found it a delight to be at a restaurant where we could easily hear each other. Service was polite, knowledgeable offering insight into our dinner options.

I went here for a company party. The food was uniformly excellent. Service was attentive. Even the desserts were great.

Neighborhood Gem

By M. Page |

We moved into the neighborhood last September and have had consistently wonderful meals at Leyla ever since. Take out or dine in, the food is wonderful and the staff is very friendly. We had one of our best meals ever over Valentine's Weekend this year with their prixe-fix menu. Definitely recommend adding Leyla to your list if you're looking for restaurants on the UWS!

Best Upper West Side Restaurant by a Mile

By Ann |

Hands down the best restaurant on the Upper West Side by far. Some of the best food I have eaten in Manhattan, period. Incredibly busy and packed for a reason. I cannot believe how incredible the food tastes. I'm eating there twice a week now it is so amazing. I am now addicted.

A great addition to the UWS

By PrinceConsort |

This is a delightful restaurant. Cozy, quite pretty, quite buzzy, with a reasonable noise level. We were there on a weeknight on the late side...about 9:30...and while the place was almost completely full, they found a table for us even though we did not have a reservation. The food was excellent. I had the fava bean bruschetta and Manti, and my wife had a greek salad and a quinoa hummus salad. All were excellent, but be warned...the salads are enough for two people. They have a small but OK selection of beers and quite a large wine list. The service was impeccable, and everyone was very friendly. The owner/host was very welcoming and checked on us several times to make sure we were happy with everything. The kitchen closes at 10:00pm, but we ordered quickly and did not feel at all rushed at the end of our meal. Prices were relatively modest. If you like Turkish food, and we do, this place is hard to beat. It is clearly one of the best restaurants in the neighborhood.

Terrible service

By Seaside17541049544 |

Terrible experience. Was seated in the sidewalk cafe. Had a rat that caused us extreme emotional distress. Asked for discount and owner told us “this is New York.” Added 20% gratuity to our bill even though we were a party of six. Absolutely abominable

Excellent, we will frequent Layla.

Food, ambiance, staff and decor all outstanding. Chef Memet has created menu of Turkish dished that make this restaurant a must for diners looking for some special.

Splendid Experience to Start 2024

By Alan F |

On New Year's day, my husband and I went to dinner at Leyla for a splendid meal, attentive, professional service, and Turkish music background at a comfortable sound level. It was a delightful experience and made us feel the year was definitely starting right. We had pide with short ribs and cheese, zucchini and shredded asparagus salad, charred octopus, chicken Tarator, raspberry rice pudding, and pistachio baklava with iconic Turkish tea. We can't say which course was the best because all were great, flavorful and with just the right amount of spice. WE plan to go back and take guests.

Nothing Wrong, But Nothing Great Either

By 454Carol |

The Turkish menu is interesting enough but the food is bland. All is ho-hum, including the service. The noise level is loud, and all-in-all it is not worth going to this restaurant.

Fabulous night of Turkish food

By RoadtripMommy |

Leyla was closed to our hotel and we decided to eat there on our last night before our departure. We ordered the Vegetarian Pide, the Vegetarian Manti, Quinoa salad and an order of Falafel. Everything was so delicious!! We wished we had more people so we can try more food. We originally booked for outdoor dining but the weather got cold and they were able to accommodate us inside. The service was great and we will definitely go again if we are every in NYC!

What a lovely little spot

By BarryNYC |

My wife and I went here for dinner (a "significant" birthday for her), and enjoyed it very much. Everything we ate and drank was prepared beautifully and with great care as to flavors. Our server was friendly and helpful. Plus the restaurant noticed the mention of the birthday on our reservation and found a simple but sweet way to mark the occasion. We will definitely be back to this neighborhood gem!

Unusual and outstanding

By KARENSK_12 |

Basically Turkish fare but not the run of the mill - dishes are delicious, well prepared and unusual. The service was outstanding

Wow! Wish they were closer to my home

From the minute you enter Leyla’s, it is as if you were a long standing customer. The warm, personalized greeting sets the tone for the entire meal. Examining the menu creates an awful conundrum. There are so many terrific choices that it became difficult to decide what to order. Good guidance from our server was greatly appreciated. We ordered our entire meal and our server tended to the timing, so that we could savor each dish on it’s own. Most of our dishes were tapas which enabled us to try more items. The zucchini fritters and the cheese flat bread were two of the standouts.. I could enjoy eating either of these on a regular basis. The eggplant caviar was perfectly seasoned (I never imagined eggplant could be so good). The baklava dessert plate was not to be believed. It was unlike I have ever tasted before- a perfect blending of flavors and textures that left you craving more (but a totally full stomach said otherwise). Each staff member checked in to see if things were going well- they could not have been better. I can’t wait to return to NYC to eat here again.

Some of the best food we have eaten in New York, or anywhere

By PukkaWorld |

Some of the best food we have eaten in New York or anywhere in the world for that matter. The combination of the freshest produce with perfectly balanced ingredients in imaginative cuisine is just incredible. We have eaten here many times since discovering it a few months back and have tried a good part of the menu and can testify to the high quality and consistency of their food. The staff are very personable and completely proffessional, some of the best service we've ever had. Whether you eat on their delightful front street terrace or in the beautiful interior or their magical little backyard you can't go wrong. The prices are incredibly reasonable, particularly for such high quality cuisine. They have a good wine list that compliments the food and imaginative, original cocktails. Highly recommend!

WELL BEYOND TURKISH DELIGHT!

By YYZ2HHH |

Leyla is a Turkish restaurant hidden in plain sight on a residential Manhattan street. We had appetizers, main courses and desserts. Each and every dish was uniquely eye-appealing and delicious. It may be a bit difficult to secure a reservation but keep trying.

Unique food and pleasant atmosphere for a couples night out

By Pinot09 |

Great cocktails and food in a very nice setting. Service was very slow but extremely pleasant. The octopus was excellent. We sat inside but the rear garden area looked very inviting.

Good intimate turkish

Menue is quite limited but interesting. We had meze which was mostly satisfactory. Service was nice but somewhat slow. Not all hot dishes arrived warm. 2-3 were actually almost cold. But altogether-good experience.

Delicious food and great atmosphere

By Caroline S |

We waited until the last minute to make reservations for dinner before a show in Lincoln Center., which found us a ten-minute walk away at this little gem. Zucchini salad and manti were outstanding. Flavor explosion! Our server recommended both along with excellent wine choices. Can’t wait to go back!

Disappointing

By vanholt |

We returned this week after a good dinner last year this time. We forgave the hour long wait then; the food and libations were good. On this return visit, we were seated immediately but then forgotten. We had to wave down a waiter, who was distracted throughout. Service was poor on a weeknight. The food was so uninteresting this time. Unfortunately this restaurant comes off my top choices.

Great Food Super atmosphere

By Toby R |

Very nice and comfortable atmosphere. Incredible polite waitresses and waiters We enjoyed the food so much. The portions are more then enough and very delicious. Would recommend to anybody visiting NYC to check it out. It’s pricey but definitely worth the visit if you fancy a nice atmosphere and good food.

Good food, unique Turkish menu

By Larry W |

This was a rustic Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant that was very good, although I must admit that I wasn’t crazy about my main course. (My fault.) Our appetizers were good; falafel, zucchini fritters, and more, which balanced great ingredients with thoughtful seasonings. We polished off 3-4 different “small plates” of these before our main courses arrived. For my entrée, I had the “eriste,” which was a mixture of pasta, lamb, sumac, cumin in a brown yogurt sauce. I know it was good, but it didn’t really tweak my personal tastes, and I didn’t finish my full course. I also felt the same way about my dessert, which was a pistachio mash with honey and homemade ice cream. I know it was good, but just not my taste. The service was very good, and the place is beautiful inside. To summarize, this is a very good restaurant that puts great food on the table, but it just wasn’t “me.” I would go back with other people, but I probably would not go back if by myself. I would gladly recommend this place though, as I know it is my own tastes that limited my enjoyment. It is a very nice place.

Great Turkish food

Good Turkish food, great little place. Liked the decor, the garden in back. The staff was very attentive and sweet. Went brunch and want to go back for dinner. Loved it!

Worse than fast food

By chai |

This establishment deserves zero stars. It's environment pretty but the food it all pre made. It is basically a glorified fast food place, and fast food places do it better. First, my husband and son got the 3 cheese flatbread, it was good but nothing special. I got the crudo which tasted like it had been marinated for a week. the fish was mushy and mealy, not to mention they served it like slop next to a pile of undressed tough arugula . When it came time to order the main course. I mentioned that I have a dairy allergy. They literally could not accommodate. Rice is made in the morning with butter. Apparently they could not make more rice. Also, removing eliminating cheese from a "made to order " flatbread bas impossible. They could not figure out how to add or take away ingredients...... even Domino's and Pizza Hut can handle such complexity. Nothing is made to order. This is basically a bad Mediterranean Qdoba. The manager, CeCe, was unprofessional, rude, and incapable. She acted like she was doing me a favor by telling me only thing she could offer me was salad. The UWS is teaming with amazing places to eat.
