Recommend for a family dinner

Overall consensus of the 4 diners in my party was a 3 rating for the food. A four rating was given because of the excellent service, cleanliness, and family-friendly atmosphere.

First Time

By M T |

This restaurant was featured on a local news channel so we decided to have lunch today. It's in an older side of San Antonio but it was worth the drive. The food was great, we had calamari to start and it was fried crispy with a lemon wedge and marinara sauce on the side. My wife had the chicken parmesan and I had the Sicilian style pizza. My wife loved her dish, she said it was perfect, she opted for the angel hair pasta instead of the traditional spaghetti. So my pizza wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I have to be honest though, our waitress brought out a slice of the Brooklyn style pizza for us to try when she brought out the calamari which wasn't fair at all. The Brooklyn style pizza is definitely better than the Sicilian style. I had her take it back and bring out a new pizza. I told her she didn't have to take the pizza off the tab though, it wasn't their fault I made a bad decision:-) The tiramisu was different but amazing! All in all, we're going back. Lunch time wasn't too busy either.

My New Favorite Old Place

By ChrisIsOnTheRoad |

I've eaten at Little Italy for years and I guess lately it had been hiding plain sight. Was in with 4 others last week and both the food and service were excellent. I've forgotten what the house cabernet was but it was modesly priced and tasted great. The bread and appetizer pizza slices before the meal were nice touches. Our group was very satisfied with our varied menu choices. Of special note were the steamed clams of all things! We have a tough time getting clams at all on any of our restaurant menus here in San Antonio. Mussels galore, clams not so much, so when I do run across them I will almost always try them. Despite Anthony Bourdain's advice (Kitchen Confidential) I tried a 1. more involved type of seafood in a 2. non-seafood restaurant on a 3. Monday night. Could have and should have gone wrong 100 different ways. I could not have been more satisfied. The clams were clean and cooked just right. We're putting Little Italy back in regular rotation!

Tuesday's Night Out

We love the pizza here. Homemade crust and we like the house special. We usually get the 14" for 2 people. Any bigger than that you will need a take home box.

OK Food, Poor Service

By Anthony A |

Searching for some Italian food on a visit to San Antonio, a friend and I decided to try Little Italy Restaurant after reading a few reviews. Because of the heavy rain, the restaurant was not crowded, and we were seated immediately. I opted for the ravioli with beef, while my friend had a chicken pasta dish. He started with the minestrone soup, which he said was at least ok, and I had a tiny salad. Then we waited....and waited....and waited. The server came over finally and apologized for the wait, since the kitchen was backed up. However, I noticed that the couple across the room who came in about ten minutes after we did got their large pizza well before we received our entrees. The server did give us extra bread and asked if we wanted anything else while we were waiting, but we declined. Finally our entrees arrived, and although the portions looked sizable, I was still hungry afterwards. Then we waited...and waited...and waited until the server finally returned to ask if we wanted dessert. We each had something (the strawberry cake was the best part of the meal), and then we waited again for the server to re-appear to give us the check. Overall, the food was nothing special - pizza seemed to be the choice of almost every table - and definitely not worth a second visit.

Birthday dinner

We're been going too Little Italy since we first moved back to San Antonio in 2003. I he up in an Italian restaurant where my Dad was the Head Chef, so I'm real critical about taste and flavor. I really like their marinara sauce. It's joints of garlic, oregano and basil are wonderful. The spaghetti and meat balls or the lasagna are always my favorite along with lots of garlic bread. The service has always been good foot us even when they're busy, which is most of the time. My wife likes the chicken Alfredo. Enjoy real old world taste.

Continued disappointment food wise contrasted to the great 1990’s.

By Bob M |

Ambience 4 Food barely a 3; Still waiting for improving food quality; this place was great in the 90’s before changing owners/mgrs; overcooked calamari rubber; dishes need more flavor/seasonings; vegan pasta dishes w/ dry, unflavored, chicken added; We try LIR once a year, hoping improvements for our great past experiences/expectations; rooting for this family business, but year by year disappointments. Service 4.9; disappointed w/not noting option of cash or debit card payment, to avoid unannounced credit card surcharge. (BTW it’s illegal for anyone to surcharge you on a debit card). I want to say we’ll try you again in a year, but it’s a “weak” maybe.

Great Pizza

By marloweb2014 |

Haven't tied much else here.. but the pizza is worth the trip there.A bit out of the way from downtown area.

Hidden Mom & Pop Italian

By Jeremy H |

This place has amazing gnocci, lasagna, and pizza. I know what you are thinking--ordering lasagna out? I tried theirs, and it has unique flavors--nothing like the frozen stuff from the supermarket. The atmosphere is a little dated (evidence of the mom & pop shop), but the food is great. My only complaint is that the wine is a bit much by the glass.

You get tiny free samples slices of pizza every visit

By UTLAWgrad |

And this is good New York style pizza. Generous portions and delicious foods overall. Try the Chicken Fra Diavolo. You get two entire chicken breasts, butterflied and cooked to perfection with some of the spiciest sauce I've ever tasted. Amazing!

Excellent Italian Food off the beaten path;

By BLOODYMARY4MEPLEASE |

Very good quality, tasty traditional Italian food. Courteous, efficient staff; Always a great experience dining at Little Italy. Enjoy!

Great food!

We came today for lunch since we were celebrating my dads birthday. Everything was excellent and our server was very good! We will definitely return again!

We went out with friends for an event downtown during the day. They recommended that we stop for dinner. We were all hungry so agreed to find a place ot eat. They highly recommended this restaurant. They are regulars here, but we had not ever tried it. They were excited to take us to their favorite Italian restaurant in San Antonio. The food was very good! It was authentic and well prepared. The portions were good and prices very reasonable. Good food with friends...what a combination! We will be returning soon.

Real New York Pizza

By stephen710 |

Many restaurants advertise New York Style pizza. This place has New York pizza like i had growing up in NY. Traditional Italian toppings. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Prices were reasonable.

Worst lasagna ever

By SummerAdventure2013 |

Worst lasagna I have had in my entire life. The past was as tough as shoe leather. Service was also very slow. Won’t be back.

This place is a great find. It's a family owned Italian place offering really great food in a cozy atmosphere. We had really friendly service and a nice meal. It didn't look like much from the outside, but we highly recommend.

Little Italy

By Ronnie M |

Great Italian food. Complimentary slice of pizza is served before meal. Service and atmosphere outstanding.

Food was delicious and service was great!

By MojoBeau12 |

We were craving some Italian food and we read the reviews for Little Italy. We decided to try it and we did not regret the choice. We were promptly seated when we arrived at the restaurant. We were quickly given a sample of their pizza. The pizza was very, very good and that is saying a lot because we are not big pizza eaters. Waiter arrived quickly and took our drink orders and quickly brought us our drinks. I ordered fettuccini and grilled chicken, my boyfriend ordered the eggplant parmesan. The fettuccini was cooked perfectly and the chicken was divine! The server checked on us through our stay, but was not intrusive. Food and service was great. I can't wait to go back. I would recommend Little Italy to anyone looking for a great Italian meal.

Nothing Ever Changes

By bobemac |

After eating here for almost 40 years they haven't changed a thing, No updates, and no new furniture. The chicken Piccata was good but the portion was sparse. The salad with Italian dressing was less than stellar. The bread was very hard and tough to eat. The small plastic butter pads were annoying. The Lasagna was very weird. It was served in a small dish, portion control again, and was mostly ground meat with almost no cheese and very little pasta. There was no layering that is typical of this pasta dish. Service was adequate but not impressive.

Great pie!

By connie e |

Only went for snack and was rewarded with a great pie. Had many assortment all good. Will definitely return to try other menu options.

LOVE THIS PLACE

By Earthtokarmen |

I like everything that I eat here - alfredo, lasagna, manicotti but the PIZZA is my favorite thing. I would have never ordered the pizza bc I like so many other things on the menu but we regularly just order pizza. The staff is always very welcoming and friendly, its a nice environment to have a meal with my honey.

I LOVE IT!

By Shea Lynn W |

I love the prices and the quantity of food you get for the price. I eat here at least 3 times a month.

A Hidden Gem

By Mike H |

Little Italy is our favorite restaurant in San Antonio and has been for more than a dozen years. Authentic Italian recipes and personal, family like service keeps bringing us back. Very reasonable pricing, lively atmosphere and plenty of free parking are pluses, as well. Be sure to get the free pizza slices as an appetizer. So good.

Family run Italian.

By Chadsaeswt |

This my wife's favorite pizza in town. Great crust and flavor. Family owned for years and still serving old school Italian. Also have a dinner theater once a month

Longtime San Antonio favorite

By Divascribe2 |

Little Italy, tucked back off West Avenue, is worth searching for because the food is great and the atmosphere is pure old-style neighborhood restaurant. When you walk in, there's a bar in front of you and the restaurant to your right. It's not fancy, but the service and food are both very good. I especially love their lasagna, both meat and spinach. As a bonus, they have a big party room at the back that sometimes hosts plays to go with your meal. Substantial wine list as well.

I was sick all next day and the day after

By Anthony A |

They use the cheapest and most mixed olive oil available, vegetables are not washed properly. Furthermore, there is absolutely nothing Italian about this restaurant. The choices of wine are mostly cheap California wines which they arrogantly sell for $13 a glass. The sauce comes out of a can and terribly acidic and unhealthy. The so-called chef is a Mexican person who should only cook Mexican food. After eating a pasta floating in some sort of oil that resembled motor oil, I was sick with cramps all day. If you care about your health stay away from that ridiculous, vulgarly decorated place. An Italian physician

Great

By Nancy D |

The food and the service are always great. I love the eggplant Parmesan and my husband always orders the chicken Parmesan. Both dishes are very delicious..

Great little secret.

Visited last night. Amazing service, great food, cozy, almost a New York feel to the atmosphere. Loved it.

An All-time Favorite

By xoSuSu |

I prefer locally owned restaurants to chains, and Little Italy has been a favorite since I moved here 20+ years ago. The decor is reminiscent of 1950s-style Italian family restaurants, with the red and white-checked tablecloths and Chianti bottles used as candlestick holders. The food is consistently wonderful, as is the service. If you are looking for trendier, regional Italian, with menu items like handcrafted Mozzarella and artfully crafted antipasto, this isn't it. This is straight-up comfort Italian: Ravioli, spaghetti with hearty meat sauce, lasagna, and some of my favorite pizza ever. Great for a date, great for families and friends.

Hidden little treasure

By HugsnotSlugs |

I've eaten here a few times on special occasions, and always enjoyed the experience. The staff is nice, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the food is yummy. I recommend trying the linguine with white clam sauce, it's one of my favorites. The desserts are also great if you still have room:)

A new favorite!

By CLITTLERIVER |

After looking for a new restaurant to try, yesterday we decided to give this place a try. It was very good, we will be going back. Our server was also very friendly.

Can't beat Little Italy for good food, good wine and good friends

By MandDwithPanache |

We've been coming to LIttle Italy since they first opened in 1983 (their longevity should tell you something about the place!). Still owned and run by the same family, and the same chef still prepares the best Italian food in the city, using the same old family recipes. Everyone is greeted like family - and when you've known the Visocaro family as long as we have - you ARE part of the family! The evening begins with a complimentary sliver of their pizza - far and away the best in the region (and when we aren't dining in, we're picking up pizza). The food is traditional family style, not fancy (unless the chef is in the mood!), and about as good as it gets. It's hard to recommend a favourite, though the braciole, cioppino and saltimbocca are all up there. The mussels and clams are always good and served in a choice of sauces over a choice of pasta. portions are generous, so go hungry and don't be afraid to ask for a doggy bag - but save room for a cannoli!

Disappointing meal

By Bill S |

Haven't been to this restaurant in a number of years and decided to again give it a try. Quaint restaurant with a sort of neighborhood family feel. It has a small bar area which is nice to get a drink while waiting to be seated. Once seated, you are brought a small slice of pizza to sample, which in our case proved to be the best part of the meal, as it went downhill from there. The waiter was relatively new, so it was somewhat understandable that he really couldn't explain some of the choices on the menu. We ordered Charcoal Chicken with Lemon Sauce, Broiled Shrimp with Rangeri Sauce, and Baked Lasagna with meat. The house salad was cold and fresh, but then the wait began. It took forever for the food to be served, and the waiter, who seemed to disappear for long stretches of time finally came and said that our food would be out shortly. About 20 minutes later it finally arrived. The shrimp dish was cold, the chicken luke warm, and the lasagna was fine. Had to send the shrimp dish back to be heated. The chicken dish was basically a bone-in leg and breast with a bread stuffing, served with a side of generic angel hair pasta with a bitter garlic flavor on top. It was not very good. The lasagna was ok, but nothing special. When the shrimp dish finally returned, it was rubbery, and looked like it was cooked in a sauce of honey mustard. The chicken and shrimp dishes were neither tasty nor visually appealing. Water glasses were never refilled. Perhaps we hit the place on a bad night, because there are many good reviews, but it was truly one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. This may be the first poor review I have ever written, but I'm being truthful. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but the food was seriously lacking on our visit. If you go, perhaps just order more of the pizza.

Best Authentic NY style pizza in San Antonio

By Stephanie R |

I have been coming to this family owned restaurant for over 20 years, it has the best pizza in San Antonio, the other dishes are good as well. The staff is friendly, the ambience is relaxing.

Great experience

By Kevin M |

Place has a real family feel to it from the greeting at the door to the good byes when you leave. The bread and little slices of pizza are very good way to start your meal. House salad was just the right size and dressing was real good. We had an eggplant dish and fettuccini Alfredo with sausage. Every thing had great flavor and the portions were generous. Service was very good not pushy and made good suggestions. You can't go wrong.

Sir, I can make anything happen.

By Travelnutforever |

What do you say about a restaurant where the waiters take command and tell you "Sir, i can make anything happen here!" I had asked for additional slivers of their appetizer which happens to be a sample of their cheese pizza for my daughter because her older brother managed to eat them all when Tony replied with a "can do" attitude. This is our favorite italian restaurant in San Antonio. Thank GOD for NYC transplants because they bring us a piece of heaven with their absolutely wonderful pizzas! In our last visit we were served by an awesome waiter name Tony.

Awful

By Jeremy H |

Canned sauce, frozen meatballs, overdone pasta, and grocery store bread. I will never eat here again.

The NY Style pizza is the BEST in San Antonio...guaranteed.

By Joseph G |

Some of the best Italian food I have had in SA. The NY Style pizza is the BEST in San Antonio...guaranteed. Take it from this New Yorker. They even do dinner theater comedies in their party room on select weekend! Last dinner theater in San Antonio.

Subpar Food

By Renee B |

Visiting San Antonio from out of state and in the mood for Italian. This one popped up with a decent rating on trip adviser. Menu looked decent. The food was at best subpar. The sauce taste like it was from a can. The salad dressing from a cheap store brand. I will say that our waitress was very friendly and nice, but the food was not good. Would never recommend or go back.

Fabulous!

By Justyn V |

Best pizza in town... Eggplant parm is the absolute best!!!! Nice family owned place... Price is average and atmosphere is great. Love it

Local Italian Favorite

By Rick-Rozzi |

One of my favorite local Italian restaurant. You won't go wrong with the House Cabernet. The wait staff are excellent and provide great service with out being pushy or trying to hurry you . Run by Brother and Sister I guess they took over for parents who may show up now and then. Usually packed on Friday and Saturday nights, so be prepared to wait, but once your seated you can take your time and enjoy

Nice Italian place

By johnburton75218 |

I ate here on a busy Friday night as part of a large wedding rehearsal group, and it was great. We were in the separate “party room” off the side of the building. We had cheese pizza for an appetizer, bread, a small salad, and then spaghetti with a large meatball and pasta Alfredo for the main course. There was a cash bar for our group, and the prices for drinks were very reasonable. There was only one server for the entire room so service wasn’t super fast but our party were there to socialize for a long time so it didn’t really matter. The waitress was very nice.

Old style -

By DR_DAN2010 |

Knowing only some of the history of Little Italy in San Antonio, I really can't think of any complaints and from the packed house - neither can anyone else. Just proving that a good product overcomes a location that is not that great and a building that looks like - well - it could use some fixing up. Old tables, old table clothes, old floors, old decorations - But that is much of the charm. So what that you may drive by the restaurant a couple times before finding it and you may give it a questioning look when you do find it; you will enjoy the attentive wait staff, lively atmosphere and quality food.

Local Favorite!

By Cindy G |

Great Italian food in a fun location! Great service - every table gets a sample of New York style pizza. Excellent menu choices!

Great older family Italian restaurant

By Bob S |

Had dinner with old friends. We lived near here 30 years ago and ate here many times back then. It's still great food, perfect service.

Good food

By mcaver0 |

The chicken marsalla was not that good, I had to send it back the flavor was too strong, however when they brought back it was delicious.

Gem of a restaurant

By Jill P |

My son and I ate dinner here after a day exploring the area. Where we live, it is hard to find good Italian food so we picked this restaurant and were not disappointed. We both felt it deserves a better rating than a 4/5. We were seated quickly. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The server and chef worked to modify my meal to accommodate my dietary needs (gluten-intolerant). The food portions were generous and tasty. I had veal saltimbocca; my son ordered the gnocchi with chicken. We have nothing but compliments for this restaurant. We will be back!

Nothing to write home about

By Tennismom01 |

The food here is nothing to write home about. The service is so slow that we had our soup and salad and waited and waited so long that the waiter tried to take our food order again when we told him we had ordered and had our soup and salads he returned with our food which I guess had been sitting under the food lamps. I guess that the customers go crazy over the place because as you are seated they bring you a sample of pizza (big deal you can get fast pizza at LC's) The salad is boring with nothing but lettuce and dressing. The bread is boring and could use some dipping sauce. I will not go back. But if you are looking for a place like Olive Garden than you will enjoy Little Italy. Good things about the place are lots of parking and the prices are fair.

The Best Italian Food West of New York City

By 228margiw |

Oh, my gosh! If you have not tried this restaurant, you don't know what you're missing! I am so grateful that the Visocaro family relocated from New York City (NYC) to San Antonio 36 years ago! They serve the BEST Italian food west of NYC! Each time I have joined friends at Little Italy, everyone praises the delicious food. Thank you, Dominick, for giving San Antonio authentic New York style Italian cuisine!

A more recent review - It's gone downhill

By DWKTexas |

We had not been there for awhile, and had an event there involving over a dozen people. After that visit, we decided we did not need to return. It seemed that the food quality had dropped a few notches, and the prices had raised more than a few notches. Many in the group were shocked that the house red wine was $12 for a small glass. They ordered it without checking the menu, I guess, and it didn't dawn on them until their checks arrived.

Little Italy provides good value!

By sdfincomic |

Had a nice lunch at Little Italy and enjoyed the restaurant week specials. The Cesar Salad was very tasty while the lasagna was just ok although it was a nice sized serving. The cheesecake and tarimaso were both good but not the best we’ve ever had. Service was very good and the ambiance made you feel like you were in Italy. The best part was the price at $15 per person.

Great Service!

By Smith S |

First time dining. Nice, cozy restaurant. Waiter was great. Very attentive. Lasagna was good. Chicken Parmesan was really good. The bread was very good. Complimentary pizza slices were tasty. I'd go back.

Fantastic pizza

By EveTexas |

Everything I've had here is great, but I return time and again for the pizza. It's a beautiful setting with several dining areas and a wonderful family staff. It's been there for 30-plus years and my only complaint is that they don't deliver!

Great pizza, disappointing service

By Ellen L |

We hadn't been to this restaurant in a couple of years. The pizza is still great. However, the service continues to be disappointing. We have always had problems finding our server when needed, and this trip was no exception. Then the server charged another table's bill to my credit card. I wasn't upset because mistakes happen and the did void the charge. However, neither the server or the manager bothered to apologize. Just another example of poor service. If we return, it will be for take-out only.

Fantastica

By kuwells |

A favorite for italianfood for several years. They provide bread and cheese pizza slices upon arrival. The food is fantastic. The chicken parm, pasta dishes, etc. - it's all good. It is sort of hidden behind the Dairy Queen and tire shop.

Totally flavorless meal

By Hilde W |

I ordered spaghetti with meat sauce with a side salad. The meat sauce was runny and had no flavor. The Italian dressing on the salad was also flavorless. Very disappointing. Will not return.

Best Italian food I've had in a long time!

By David |

I took my wife out here for lunch and it was a wonderful experience! The waiter was absolutely top notch and the food was even better. It's so nice to find a non-chain Italian restaurant with great Italian food!

Why did I wait so long?

By SanAn2nioTX |

Finally after 10 years living 4 blocks from Little Italy, my husband and I decided to try this restaurant on Valentine's Day. They start you with 2 sample pieces of pizza and some bread...VERY TASTY! I ordered the chicken parmigiana with eggplant and my husband ordered the tomato & cheese pizza. We shared the meal and the salad. It was great and wish we had visited a LOT SOONER! Will definitely return to try other entrees.

Pasta, Meat and Sauces....your choices...Great!!!

By Patrice C |

The food is still as good as it was 29 yrs. ago. The atmosphere has not changed and the waitstaff are very professional.

Consistently good

By pickupthepace |

I have been eating here for over 11 years and it is consistently good. This is a family owned and operated place, ex-New Yorkers. It is the closest thing I have found in San Antonio to a New York style neighborhood Italian joint.

A true Mom & Pop Italian Restaurant

By TravelinAmigos |

A great neighborhood place with real Italian dishes not named with made up "Italian" words!! The Egg Plant Rollatini is the best I have had a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e! A longtime Family owned & operated restaurant we have been going to almost 25 years. You sit down and they bring you this little slice of piping hot cheese pizza just to get the party started. Who else does thank?

Ugh no

By lalalala41 |

I went here on advice of a friend . The interior was clean & the staff was very friendly & nice . I ordered the spaghetti w/ meat sauce . It came w/ a house salad. The salad was decent . It seemed like the cook in the back forgot he was pouring my dressing & maybe dozed off for a minute . My salad was drenched in ranch . The spaghetti tasted like it came out of a can . It was bland & mediocre. I was excited to go here & was hoping for a better experience.

Great Mom & Pop Place

You want down home Italian with old town feel, this is your place. Even the complimentary pizza was fantastic. Price are very reasonable and you can tell this is real home cooking.

Outstanding

By JoDeb2014 |

Great food, service and prices. Friendly staff and excellent wine selection. Love this place. Food very authentic (I'm half Italian). My Mother's favorite place for Italian in San Antonio and she is from Udine, Italy.

Old and Tired

By jottowag |

Place has been here a long time, kind of like a worn out old lady. Waitresses over patronizing. Sample of pizza is thin, dough slightly under baked very average bland food. There are a lot of better Italian restaurants around San Antonio with a lot more zip and better food.

Mangiare bene!

By Monique Y |

Quaint neighborhood restaurant. Clean interior, good service, decent food - pretty standard fare. Beer & wine only. Two standouts - Ciopino soup was fresh and flavorful and the complimentary slice of cheese pizza. Thin chewy crust with an oregano infused sauce that made me homesick for homemade pizza in my hometown of Boston.

Good group of friends

I had never been before. Met a group if friends for dinner. Service was great as was the food. Made for a great evening

Brought me home!

By Traceye |

Little Italy Restaurant brought me back home to my neighborhood in Hartford, CT. The aroma of food cooking reached me in the parking lot and drew me into the restaurant. I was anxious to see the menu to see what offerings would tantalize my palate. I was in for a delightful lunch! We opted to order appetizers so we could sample more than one dish. My goodness, the clams sauteed in garlic, wine and butter were chock full of flavor and so sweet and tender - only attention to detail ensured the clams were cooked perfectly. The eggplant rolatini was prepared with a light breading, pan fried and rolled with prosciutto, cheese and served with a bright marina sauce. The clams oreganata were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Little Italy is a delight and definitely worth several trips to eat such wonderful food. Thank you for providing the best Italian food in San Antonio.

Certainly not what it once was....

By Dartgrp |

This was once our favorite 'authentic Italian' restaurant in San Antonio. Not so these days. Hadn't been there in quite a while, but were there (party of four) on a recent Friday evening....with a reservation. The hostess didn't acknowledge our reservation, but did seat us immediately. The waiter was too quick to take our order. We ordered wine, beverages and an appetizer (calamari w/marinara). The calamari arrived after our salads (chopped and whimpy) had already been served. The marinara sauce tasted like tomato sauce with Tobasco....not real marinara at all. Our entrees (chicken parmesan, chicken rollatini, shrimp linguini, and gnocchi) were edible...that's about it! We felt the waiter was rushing us. In discussion with my wife, we feel either the restaurant has cheapened the food ingredients (quality) they are using, or the chef simply needs to be replaced....maybe both. The children did enjoy their tres leches cake and cannoli deserts. On the way out, we noticed that most of the clientele seemed to be having pizza. If there is a next time for us, perhaps we will follow suit.....

Wonderful Italian!

By CLITTLERIVER |

I was in search of an Italian restaurant the last time I visited my family in San Antonio. After much research on trip advisor I decided on Little Italy, and it didn’t disappoint! We ate here again tonight. It was very busy and crowded, we were seated and served our meal in a timely manner though. We had Chicken Parmesan, steak, eggplant parm, Italian stallion, calamari, and cheese sticks. Somethings weren’t brought in the correct order, but our server was very apologetic and very friendly, they were busy and trying to do their best so we understood. We will return here in future visits!

LITTLE ITALY- OLDIE BUT GOODIE

By Nick R |

Went there with my wife for lunch,,.upon entering we were greeted and taken to a nice table...the decor is old and dated but nice and clean...our server did an excellent job...I had the Angelo's special without anchovies 10" small pizza, it was great! Toppings were fresh and delicious, crust was thin and not too crispy...i also had sweet tea which was very good, tasted more like a mix with lemon but it was so good! We had Italian Sausage parm appetizer also very good...they bring fresh baked bread to the table that was awesome...my wife had the Chicken Parm with noodles, she said it was very good, chicken was a little dry but she ate it all! We had a desert called "Italian Wedding Cake" and that was addicting like crack! we couldn't stop eating it until it was gone! Price was cheap, around $40 for everything...overall experience was excellent, we plan on returning...

Good Value for Italian in North SA

By DWKTexas |

One of our favorites for Italian. A great menu and excellent authentic Italian/Sicilian food (owners are Sicilian). Prices represent a bargain compared to most other Italian places in town. Very good atmosphere and service has always been impeccable. Excellent wine and beer selection. You won't be disappointed.

Very good, authentic Italian food!

By Lmp89 |

This place has very good food, and they even bring complimentary pizza slices to the table as an appetizer! I had the chicken parmesan which was very good, and Iove the old world charm of the place.

By jimmywilleford |

My family and friends held a baby shower for my wife and I at the Little Italy Restaurant. I must say that I am normally not one to be impressed by restaurant food easily. However, I have to say that the food at Little Italy is above and beyond anything that I could have imagined. The food is prepared from scratch which is why it takes a little longer for your order to come to you. The pepperoni and garlic pizza is to die for. It has real Italian pepperoni on it and roasted garlic and the mozzarella cheese is made fresh daily. The meatballs are the size of a tennis ball which would lead you to believe there is a lot of filler and very little meat. Well you would b so wrong in that assumption the meatballs are moist and are cooked to perfection. . Marisa, and Dominic and momma are the owners and they run the restaurant and they will take care of you if you have any problems, which I am sure you will not unless you create the problem yourself. Please go and visit this marvelous restaurant and see for yourself what Little Italy has to offer. Buenvenita.

Added Gratuity

By susieq0208 |

We ate here with 2 other couples. The food and service were good. The waiter was able to divide the check in thirds for us. My husband paid with a credit card and I left the tip in cash. I know another couple left their tip in cash, too. When I got home, I noticed that an 18% gratuity was added to the bill without telling us or highlighting it on the check. I've never been to a restaurant where the gratuity was added for only 6 people. So the waiter got a total of $19.49, just from us! Ridiculous. Just beware. Needless to say, we won't be going back because we feel the added gratuity could have been mentioned or noted in some way on the check.

Always good

Unpretentious, authentic Italian in shopping center. Wide variety of simply prepared dishes. Friendly, attentive staff. Ambiance is minimal but adequate. Only local patrons. Very reasonable pricing.

Not worth wasting your time or money

By Trip27766042537 |

The service was slow. We waited for a long time to get bread. We had to ask for that. The bread that came was hard. The salad came was cold and dressing in plastic container. The taste, temperature and this plastic container reminded me of grocery store frozen salad packet. Very unappealing. We asked for few substitutions and each of them were charged as extra. Most of the staff do not know English. Our waiter was extra rude and unpleasant. Not a pleasant experience. I do not recommend. Not value for your money.

Wonderful Family Atmosphere - Even better when the lights went out! How fun :)

By heyfroggy |

Dining by myself- I chose the bar area and just when I had finished my scrumptious dinner of shrimp in a tasty spicy marinara sauce the lights went out. It was good fun to talk to the waiters and the wonderful maitre d, who is a knock out Steve Martin. I had a blast and am anxious to return as soon as possible. Oh and the waiter Robby was a sweetie as well. The lights were out for about 20--30 minutes but they were efficient and fun, especially given the circumstances! Highly recommend!

Love this place!

By botanicalsa |

We've really enjoyed the food/people at this restaurant. They have good wait persons (Dennis is our favorite). They seem make everyone feel special. It's always a relaxing evening when we come for dinner. The food is always excellent. At least we have never (ever ) had a bad experience. The soups are wonderful, the bread warm and tasty. We love that they give everyone a little taste of their pizza before dinner too. There are always Specials on offer. We've never been disappointed in any of those either. Their pizzas are great. Their red pasta sauces are wonderful. Never too much garlic. They serve wine and beer if interested? There is an outdoor seating area for drinks if interested? The back of the restaurant holds some extra venues of theater productions on occasions. Check online for that schedule. Seating is limited.

Looking for a new place for dinner in San Antonio.

By JDLibertad |

Little Italy is a family owned and operated little slice of Italian Heaven! My wife and I were looking for a new place to have dinner close to where we were staying in San Antonio. I ask the building manager who has lived here for some time, and he said one of his favorites was Little Italy. Being lovers of Italian fare, we decided to give it a try. We were absolutely delighted with the ambiance, the service and most especially the food. Absolutely incredible! If you enjoy real Italian cuisine, then you owe it to yourself to try Little Italy!

OH MY GOSH!!!

By Gail G |

This must be the best kept secret in San Antonio! Little Italy has been here since 83' and I've lived here since 71' and never knew about this place! I'm about to fix that for you guys! You will definitely have the inside edge when you visit SA! This is Italian food like you always knew it could be. They serve you slices of their cheese pizza when you sit down. It works great! Because then you want everything on the menu! We had the Chicken Rollatini and the Baked Manicanne. My husband had the Minestrone soup and I had the salad with their house Italian dressing. The soup was beautiful and delicious. The dressing is homemade in house and is the best I 've ever had. Pasta dish was rich and flavorful with an obviously handmade marinara sauce. The meat in the sauce was savory and tender. The Chicken dish was served with a sherry white wine sauce and was stuffed with spinach and cheese with fresh broccoli and mushrooms. The serving was generous and while the food was so rich as my husband said, it was refreshing and didn't leave you in a carb coma! They also are maybe the only Italian restaurant in town that serves Canoli for dessert! They said people come here a lot a tell them they've been looking all over town for it! I can't do the sugar so I didn't try it but after the rest of the food I can only imagine (and drool!) Ok, so the service deserves it's own paragraph! Louis was our server. He knew his stuff, he was delightful and his timing was impeccable. The service team here totally have each other's back and we never had to wait for anything more than a minute or two. The tea service, plate removal and gracious pace were perfect. There is a novel bonus too! They have a dinner theatre in the banquet room every month called The Dinnerbox Series with live theatrical comedies! The meal includes salad bread and entree and the dinner and show combo is only $30! We will try this for sure! All in all an experience we intend to repeat on a regular basis! No other Italian restaurant we've eaten at here can touch this! We are confident you'll love it! Bon Apetit!

Authentic Italian meal

By Linda V |

The checkerboard tablecloths and crooner music adds a lot to the atmosphere here. We visited on a week-night and although not crowded when we got there about 5:30, it certainly was when we left a couple of hours later. The food was very good and servings are large, probably enough to share but order a full entree and take rest home for lunch tomorrow.....you'll enjoy it again! The bread they bring out with the salads is sooooo good, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, perfect to dip in your entree's marinara when no one's looking! The food was flavorful and our entrees, chicken parm and eggplant parm were served w/a salad and side of pasta w/choice of marinara or butter & garlic. The butter/garlic sauce was really good w/lots of chopped garlic in the butter. We didn't have dessert, but will try to save room next time since all the cakes in the dessert case looked fabulous! Moderately priced entrees, $10-$15 each. All in all, very enjoyable and will be back.

Great neighborhood restaurant!

A little difficult to locate. We found this restaurant to be a treasure. Food was excellent, service so friendly and accommodating. We were charmed. Large servings. All fresh. Highly recommend this as a mid-level price restaurant. Not fancy. Simply good.

GROSSLY over rated. Straight up Italian that tastes like it came out of a neighbors kitchen. Not a bad thing, but...

GROSSLY over rated. Straight up Italian that tastes like it came out of a neighbors kitchen. Not a bad thing, but definitely undeserving of the hype.

Authentic!

By TMS2014 |

This place may not look like much on the outside, but it definitely makes up for it in quality of food! Everything was wonderful and the atmosphere was charming.

Great Italian food with outstanding service

By Kelly C |

Wow!!! I read the previous review for this restaurant which for the most part were good review. However, inspite of the reviews, I still was pleasantly surprised but how absolutely awesome it was. My husband and I were seated early so we didn't have to wait. They give each guest a slice of their cheese pizza as a sample/appetizer. The dough was crisp and fresh, the sauce was awesome! The best pizza I may have ever had. Blass was our waiter and he was exceptional. I ordered the Chicken Rollitini with was in a light cream sauce with a sweet edge. It was delicious and filling. My husband ordered the Chicken a La Sorrentina which was in a lemon butter sauce. It was equally as delicious. We were very pleased and will be making the drive from Helotes Texas to this great local restaurant again in the future. When it's Italian, it will be Little Italy.

The worst meal ever

By SanAntonioEnglishman |

Four of us arrived at 8pm for dinner. The restaurant is open till 10pm. No-one greeted us at the door. We saw people at the back of the entrance area who did not look welcoming. The spaghetti was cold; the minestrone soup was just warm; the first course arrived after the second, which the waiter found funny! He could not find the wine we ordered, so brought us another one, then filled our glasses nearly to the top. It was 21 degrees outside and they had the A/C on in the restaurant, so it was very uncomfortable. I don't know what went wrong here, as the other reviewers loved this place. We had the worst meal ever in our lifetime, and we have eaten at restaurants in San Antonio and all over the world. No manager came to check on us, and nobody wished us goodnight. I would not take a chance on this place if I were you. I cannot imagine how it has survived since 1984. Never Again!

An old-fashioned family restaurant

By Divascribe2 |

Amid all the glitzy chain Italian restaurants, Little Italy stands out for its old-fashioned charm. It feels like an Italian restaurant you might visit in New York -- cozy, atmospheric and filled with heavenly aromas. I have never had a bad meal here. Their lasagna is superb, and their other pasta dishes are good as well. I've never tried their pizza but friends tell me it's good. The service is efficient. If you're looking for an authentic experience, this is the place to go.

Great New York Italian

Great menu selection at this authentic Italian place. Visited twice and everyone has been pleased. Really like the clams. Staff is attentive to your needs and have great suggestions.

Little Italy, BIG HIT!

By Susana B |

The Server Chris totally rocks, best service we've had in years...oh yeah and the food was good too! Ask him to make his "special dipping sauce"...you'll be hooked forever!

Just great food

By Maps662705 |

Best Italian food in town, best calimari anywhere. This family restaurant is always busy, with good reason. Prices are good, food is excellent. Staff and service like family. You have to eat here. Most meatballs look like golf balls, there's are softballs!! No kidding, there lasagna is almost medicinal, the place is habit forming. My only complaint is all the food I have left over!! Do yourself a favor and eat here.

Delicious seafood pasta

By allabouthappiness |

I went to Little Italy for the first time with a group of friends. Our waiter was good but I think he could be better. My friend and I had an eye on dessert but we enjoyed our conversation so much, we forgot to order and our waiter didn't ask neither. We also felt like he was kinda in a rush toward the end so we thought the restaurant was about to close but we looked at the time and there were still 30 minutes left and there were also other customers in another section of the restaurant. Anyway, food was great. We loved what we ordered. I ordered steamed clams in garlic sauce and eggplant parmigiana for appetizer and there were very delicious. I chose Frutti Di Mare pasta for an entry and it was good as well. I plan to try the linguine pasta with fresh clams next time when we go there. With dessert, of course.

75th Birthday

By Justyn V |

Celebrated my Aunts 75th birthday in private party room "The Big Apple". Had great service and food. We were able to have a DJ as well as being in our own dessert. Everything went off without a hitch. So thankful for all the help from the staff setting up serving and breaking down.

Yum

Great place to enjoy lunch or dinner. Great selection and food. We enjoyed a pizza and salads with friends.

Anniversary dinner for pick-up

By moniquecover |

We ordered from Little Italy for my parents' anniversary. We have eaten here before, and take home was just as delicious. We even felt like we got more food than when we eat in the restaurant. All good was well prepared and delicious. We had seafood pasta, special pizza, chicken parmigiana, and antipasto salad. Fantastic!

Gem of a place

By Dennis K |

This is a quaint place, a bit off the beaten path in San Antonio, but by no means hard to get to. Definitely not a touristy place, which is great. Don't let your web search confuse it with the chain Maggiano's Little Italy. It reminded me of some of the really good family-owned places I've been to (Frenchie's in Houston, Nino's in Atlanta). The food was really solid and the pizza was very good. Maybe the meat sauce had a bit too much red wine in it, but it was still very tasty. We went here late on a Friday night. The service was outstanding. Granted, we came after the evening rush, but they could have tried to rush us out close to closing time, but they did not and let us take our time. One of my daughters ordered spaghetti and the little kid's portion was a bit small for her. She was given an additional regular adult order at no additional cost. It must have been good because she ate both plates! If I lived in San Antonio, this place definitely would be on my list of places to go to regularly.

Worst meal in a long time

By Gatorday1 |

First had to listen to a loud mouth on his phone the whole meal.We were crammed at a very small table by the wine rack. Everything was cold. The eggplant appetizer was one four inch slice for $5. The salad was OK, but seemed to be bottled dressing. My Chicken Piccata was a small breast that had not been pounded, or browned. Sauce was weak and pasta was tasteless. Luke warm to start and cold half way through when I stopped. Wife's Lasagna was two layers - top and bottom. Had some terrible ground meet stuffed in a ball in between. Had definitely been cold and Microwaved, but was still cool. We never were asked how the food was. Guess they know. Had been excellent years ago. Could have gone to Luce's for about the same price and had excellent food and atmosphere.

Great Italian Restaurant

By AggieDiver86 |

Little Italy is a small sized family run Italian Restaurant with great food and good service. Our family eats here frequently and are never disappointed. Always better than the Italian restaurant chains. The menu is large for a small sized restaurant, and the choice of traditional Italian selections along with some speciality dishes are bound to please everyone (well almost everyone). Although we usually eat at the restaurant, we also order their pizza for carry-out. They make fantastic pizzas - love the crust. The restaurant atmosphere very plain, but the great food and wine at very reasonable prices make up for it.

Where Are the Straw Covered Chianti Bottles with Dripping Wax Candles?

By OmniEpicurean |

Every restaurant I can think of that graciously provides an on-the-house appetizer before dinner has remained in my active circuit of favorites and not just by reason of the freebie. I am not talking about chips and salsa here either. Could it be that there is a correlation between the offer of an amuse bouche, the desire to serve good food coupled with the talent to effect that desire, and the acute business/culinary marksmanship of the owner in targeting and retaining customers? I think maybe yes. Regardless of the reason, Little Italy's offering of a tantalizingly small slice of their delicious N.Y. style cheese pizza, either as you are standing in the foyer waiting for a table on a busy Saturday night or once you are seated for a leisurely lunch, is a devilishly clever strategy for setting a tastily baited hook and for easily reeling the diner in by the appetite. For longtime patrons, this is just an omaggio (freebie) that lends to their fealty and to the felicity of the dining experience. I can think of no other Italian Restaurant in San Antonio that elicits the same relaxed feel as a comfortable old pair of jeans like Little Italy does which only comes about with familiarity, frequency of use and age. Further, the flavors that one expects in the food here is tantamount to the seasoning of a well used flat top griddle. It took a long time to achieve the taste it now lends to the food cooked on its surface, but that hard earned, robust flavor is as unmistakable trademark. WIth that said, the ole gal can still be quite the stunner for that special evening as well. So, I think there is really no need to mention the piquant aroma and fresh seafood flavor of the buttery, seasoned breadcrumb covered, clams oreganata appetizer, the luscious depth of the parmigiano reggiano in the creamy alfredo sauce enveloping large, plump shrimp, or the cheeky punch of a rustic tomato sauced chicken parmigiana with breaded crust fried to a golden wheat hue that we had, but I will. Little Italy hails from an era of Italian restaurants with straw covered chianti bottles ensconced in dripped candle wax flickering in the subdued light atop red and white checkered table cloths. Dean Martin could be heard softly crooning "When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie" in the background over clandestine speakers. Well, Little Italy does not have the chianti bottle candles, but they do have that dimly lit room and nostalgic checkered table cloth ambiance that still makes the place special particularly as a window into the halcyon days of italian food dining when places like Paesano's on McCullough, Naples on San Pedro, Italian Gardens on W.W., White, and Joto's on Milsa flourished. Some might think the place a bit dated and in need of modernization or a face lift. For those I wish the Curse of the Pharaohs. There are more than a few customers who are exceedingly happy to have the restaurant remain in its shroud of par excellence perpetuity retaining its graceful manner in transporting one over the river of time with consistently good food for a reasonable tariff. And did I mention service. Fuggedaboudit!!

We go for the Pizza, wine and ambiance!

By Susan M |

Great thin, crispy pizza. The waitstaff is good. They always bring bread, butter and a small slice of pizza to sample while you are looking over the menu.

Hidden Gem.

By JSFoodie09 |

Went for dinner. Started with Fritto Misto, we also had eggplant Parmesan and pizza. The food was very good, great service. Would certainly recommend this Hidden Gem. I'll be back on my next trip to San Antonio.

Good service, good food

By Lollie777 |

We stopped in at little Italy for a party today. The service was super! We stayed for quite some time visiting with family and they were happy to oblige. We had the anti pasto appetizer which was really good. The food could be a little better, but was tastey. The atmosphere is very Italian and the setting was intimate. They should consider a more flavorful bread with maybe a dipping oil, etc, but it was very nice for a family gathering.

One of our favorites

By Talktoyou |

This is one of our regulars, stopping in at least twice a month. The kids love how they start you out with a slice of pizza when you sit down. The standards of lasagna, pizza, and the many chicken and veal dishes always keep us coming back. Don't ever change Little Italy!

Average italian food

By drrosenthal |

I was told this was a good authentic Italian restaurant. The main dish I had, linguini with clams was very flavorful but left me not feeling full as it was not that much compared with other Italian restaurants I have visited. I ordered my favorite dessert, a cannoli, but was sorely disappointed when it came out. I took one bite and did not take another. The filling was runny and not very flavorful. I told my waiter and he took it away and told me that he would take it off my check.

GREAT FIND IN SA

By 612daphnew |

Once you get inside you feel like you are in Italy, the outside is a little rough and if someone had not told me to try it I probably would not have had it on my radar. Tonight we tried the pizza. It was delicious and very much like the pizza we had in Italy last year. They have a nice side salad and a pretty good selection of wines. The service is very good, with the exception that they are a little slow getting wine from the bar area. They are always busy but they turn the tables quickly without rushing anyone. We are going to try one of their theatre nights soon.

Good food!

By CLITTLERIVER |

We love coming here for the food. Very good chicken parmigiana, soups, spaghetti, and calzones. The person that took us to our table and our waiter could’ve been a little friendlier. And I’m glad it wasn’t very busy when we were there because the food took awhile to come out.

Great pizza but not such great service

By Ellen L |

Little Italy is a San Antonio institution. They are particularly known for their pizza but everything is good. However, whenever we go we have slow service. Still worth the trip!

Super Server

By Fahrvergnuegte |

A popular place - judging by the large crowd of people. We had not eaten there before, went there with a group who recommended it. The food was good, I especially liked the marinated calimari salad. A heap of meat sauce boosted my spaghetti. I was also very pleased with our server. The young lady accommodated my wishes for a special red wine drink cheerfully and promptly.

Do not go here.

By Brantley B |

I give two, not one stars because they were friendly. But the food was horible. We went because the reveiws were good and we assumed how could we go wrong but man... $45 dollars wasted. The place was dated, and had water stains on the ceiling and stained/dingy table cloths. They brought out "complementary pizza" to begin. It tasted worse that little ceasars, and it was so bad me and the people at my table couldn't help but laugh. The bread was okay. But everything ordered at my table tasted like it was pored out of a can or jar.

Skip this place unless you want pizza

By Chicago99 |

The pizza is good. But, that's it. Other items are over-priced and poor quality. I ordered the italian sausage and pasta. The sausage was old and hard. I'll never go back.

Friendly atmosphere

By gilmorha |

We ate here one night on along with family and found the staff friendly and the food scrumptious with a very wide choice of meals pizza and desserts.

Diamond in the rough

By RocketmanJohnson |

My wife and I searched for a family-owned restaurant in the area. We found this little gem online. The restaurant has been open since 1983, so by no means is it updated. We were seated and promptly visited. We ordered a couple of appetizers (cheese bread and the caprese salad), the seafood soup, and the Taste of Italy pizza. The food had such deep flavor. We cannot wait to return to try more dishes.

great find

By daniel v |

I went to lunch there with two people from my office. They had a great lunch deal going on it was a salad, main meal and dessert. all the food I had was great. I look forward to going back. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Halloween treat

Our first visit here and we loved the food! Not a very fancy place but still classy and friendly and clean. The food had great taste and the service was attentive, went on Halloween nigh and it was fun to see the servers dressed up. Huge servings and better than most Italian resteraunts, we are definitely coming back!

New Year's Eve great Italian meal with friends

Horrible service

By Diana C |

We made a reservation for7pm for a party of 6 to celebrate my sons birthday. We were seated at 720 & @740 placed an order for appetizers. Our waitress never came back to take our order. At 8:10 I went to talk to the hostess about ordering our food. Our waitress finally came by around 820-830. She had another table she was waitressing on & she kept going over there to take them their drinks, then their soup/salad then get their orders. All this time we waited & waited. They should have had a manager assist her or us. I think we got our food around 9 pm. Worst service ever!!

I LOVE this place

By OhhNoo2150 |

I have been coming here since I was a kid (I'm 37...it's been open since the late 80s and the same owners) the food is delicious, they are consistent... anytime I come the food shines through. Their gnocchi is my favorite dish but you really can't go wrong. Their pizza is amazing, if you dine in they give you a small sample slice that leaves you wanting more. It's quaint and dinner is dimly lit making for a romantic ambiance, they do have some room for bigger parties, this is far and away my favorite Italian Restaurant in San Antonio.

Inconsistent Dishes

By GGDriver |

My family and I ate lunch here, and were rather disappointed in the food, although the service was good. We like Italian food, but it was awfully hard to like it here. Both my father in-law and my sister in-law ordered the veal canneloni. My father in-law said that he couldn't taste any veal in his, although my sister in-law said there was definitely some in hers. My mother in-law ordered eggplant parmigiana and said that she could hardly taste any eggplant. Also, it was not thick-cut (as it said on the menu) and the bread-crumb coating was burnt. My husband ordered the meat tortellini, which he said had a funny, almost metallic taste. I tried a couple of them, and agreed that they did have an odd flavor. I had the alfredo with chicken and fettuccini noodles. I liked the flavor of the grilled chicken and the sauce was okay. As for the other sauces, the meat sauce tasted better than the marinara, which had a lot of tomato seeds in it. The slice of cheese pizza that they brought us with the bread was very good. The bread was crusty, not bad. The dressing on the salads was very strong and acidic. We also shared some desserts. The tiramisu had the wrong consistency (too much "cake" and no marscapone) and lacked coffee flavor. I liked the cheesecake and the cannoli, but my family did not. We even tried the "zuppa inglese," which was supposed to be like an English trifle, but was more like a cake with a fruit-flavored custard. My mother in-law liked it, but the rest of us didn't really care for it. Prices were okay. Our server was very good, other staff were friendly and polite, and dishes were served promptly, but I'm not sure that we would return, even for the cheese pizza. Women's restroom looked very clean.

Eggplant Rollatini is the Best!!

By Donald V |

This has got to be one of the best kept secrets in San Antonio. The Eggplant Rollatini is the best I have ever had, Italy included! Couple that with their hot spinach appetizer and you have one wonderful Italian meal.

Name Changed to La Sorrentina--still great!

By Kinitra B |

Amazing little spot right across the street from SMU. Great food at a reasonable price and supporting the local Westside economy all in one swoop. Every single dish I've ordered has been yummy goodness from the Eggplant Parmesan to the Veal Sorrentina. Their bread is always fresh baked and homemade. This place has become a reliable goto in my restaurant repertoire. Highly recommended!

Favorite authentic Italian food in Texas!

By Flip-Looie |

Family-owned, Friendly and Fun! Really good atmosphere (even when crowded). It's both family-friendly and romantic. Great specials and a very extensive menu. You would swear there was an army of Italian grandmothers running that kitchen! First time visit? Be adventurous! Try something you've never tasted before (or order one of your personal Italian favorites to see if Little Italy measures up). You can't go wrong. Choose from an amazing collection of authentic Italian foods -- hot or cold Italian appetizers ('antepasti'); New-York-Italian-style pizzas and pasta dishes; meats (veal, beef, pork) and chicken, fish and shellfish, Italian cheeses and eggplant specialties (and even Italian vegetarian possibilities). Then end up with a luscious, creamy Italian dessert with espresso or capucchino. Wines are moderately-priced and are quite good. Could it be any better in Italy?

Long wait for ok experience

By HockeyTravelGuy |

We visited on a recent Saturday night. We were told that the wait would be 45 minutes but it was closer to an hour and a half. We understood though due to the large groups that were in that night including prom groups. We had a mediocre bottle of wine while waiting that was suggest by the bar tender (sister). Her attitude towards customers was unnecessary. The brother was doing a great job with the kids of families waiting and the prom kids by offering slices of pizza while they were waiting. Once seated our order was taken almost immediately. The salads came out just a few seconds later but were served on super heated plates that clearly had just come out of the dish washer. So the salad was hot as well. Despite this the salad was good. We then waited and waited and waited. The waiter came by to apologize for the wait for the entrees and we reminded him we hadn't been served the appetizer. As soon as we mentioned this, it took less than a minute for it to arrive. The cheese sticks are not something we would Eder again. Finally the entrees were served and they were good. The red sauce was a highlight. All in all we were there for almost three hours and had a mixed experience. We will likely return on a weekday to see if this makes a difference. I will update after we return.

REAL pizza

By Mmadd |

This is a little hole in the wall behind some other businesses. But it worth the visit. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but is a gem. Great NY Style pizza. Good sauce and right cheese:sauce ratio. Will go back.

Disappointing

By Linda E |

Dinner started with friendly prompt service, a sample slice of yummy pizza, and a lovely little super-cold fresh salad and some nice bread. Then came my entree - spaghetti and meat sauce. The very flatly tomatoey sauce tasted like it came straight from a can. The meatballs I was accidentally served were heavily bready and mealy. The meat sauce that was added on top had meatballs crumbled in it, but not cooked together so no rich meat flavor in the sauce. Very flat and plain. After I paid for my meal, I saw that they had tacked on a "procurement fee" of $.64. There was a notice that there would be a service charge for credit card charges, but this was a debit card that cost them nothing. They would not budge on removing the fee. I had quite a bit of spaghetti left and most of both meatballs, because it was not that great, so much so that I declined to take it home when they brought a container. With a plain worn atmosphere, chef boyardee spaghetti and a service fee if you use plastic to pay, I will not be returning to Little Italy.

Very Family Friendly Italian Dining

By Dave D |

Went w/friends and was impressed. Very casual...felt like what it is, a family place. They give you slices of pizza before the meal, very cool. Dawn had Eggplant Roll-a-tini, very tasty. I had a Chicken Picata, did not leave a bite on the plate. Will add this place to our list of place to re-visit.

Nice Italian restaurant

By CidoneIL |

Small family owned place, with the red and white squared table cloths and the retro fill, Ordered the lunch special (chicken caccitore that day) and it was very good, had some of my sister's spaghetti and meat balls that was not bad either and we ordered a NY style pizza to the share and it was quite good as well. Service was excellent, our waiter was tentative and available, answering all our questions and giving suggestions (first time in this place)

Great find in our neighborhood!

By smt123 |

Staying in San Antonio, we found this place on a walk in our neighborhood - it has the feel of "old Italy" and we were very pleased. We had the Veal Saltimbocca and the Charcoal Chicken in Lemon sauce - both very tasty, enough to take home for next day's lunch. Service was very good, wait staff very attentive - decor is kitchy, but delightful. It was busy, filled with families as well, which is a good sign. We will go back next week for the "dinner theatre" -- more on that later.

Always delicious.

By Sherri M |

I've been going to Little Italy for over 18 years and they still don't disappoint me. The food is excellent and the service is great. It's not a fancy spot, but the quality and tasty for the price is outstanding. I always get the linguine and clams. My husband loved the veal picatta.

This was our first visit to Little Italy so I made reservations for a table for six at 630p Saturday. When we arrived the place was packed and it was very noisy! The décor is stuck in the 70s with vinyl table cloths over red/white checked cloth tablecloths. Our table was closely situated against two walls and it was very dimly lit. Overall the restaurant needs a good general cleaning! There was no friendly greeting by the waiter and no explanation of the posted specials. When we asked questions, his answers was very curt. Little Italy menu is very expansive, so we all needed time to look it over, but the waiter was very perturb that we ask for more time and told us we better be ready to place our orders when he returned. Once we had our meals, which came to the table sporadically, our waiter never returned to see if we needed anything further. Then, without any notices, 18% gratuity was added to each of our checks for this horribly rude service! Hubby ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce ($9.99) which came with a tiny toss salad. He was greatly disappointed that a long-standing Italian restaurant served a basic staple, meat sauce, that was bitter tasting and contained hardly any meat. I ordered veal parmigiana ($19.99) which came with a side of spaghetti and a tiny side toss salad. Veal was very good. I also agreed with hubby, the spaghetti sauce was bitter. Our friends had some minor inaccuracies with their orders, but since the waiter was so rude, they just worked around it.

Great place!

Food and Service a Disappoitment

Went there as a group of 10 to celebrate a milestone birthday. Seven people got their food while three others sat waiting and waiting. Two of the three finally got their food but it was cold. One of the three gave up and cancelled his order all together. Several other people in the party said their food was cold. My wife and I both ordered a different veil dish and while warm, the veil was tough on both orders. I ordered a bottle of wine for $32 and the waiter charged me $39. When I called him on it he said that the wine I ordered wasn't available so he just brought me a different, more expensive one. It shouldn't have surprised me. He seemed to have little interest and certainly no pleasure in waiting on us, but since his 18% gratuity was included in the check, I suppose he didn't care. I would not recommend this place and everyone in my party that evening said they would not be back. I certainly won't.
