Got take out for lunch. The red curry was very good and the meal was very well priced. The restaurant itself was bright and clean and ther staff very friendly.

Ordered some takeout after dine-in plans elsewhere fell through and it may have worked out for the best. The Chicken Pad Thai was great, even though their “medium” spice level was definitely on the spicier side and was more like a dish that warranted a level 4+ rating than the middle ground of 3. Even with that, the flavors throughout more than outweighed the strong need for water. The Red and Yellow Curries were also very tasty, but could’ve had a thicker consistency. Both were a little too watery and thin, but not enough to ruin the rest of the dish. I’d definitely recommend ordering from them, but would do so with the disclaimer about the spice levels!

Three of us went in for an early dinner, we were greeted warmly and shown to a nice table. The happy hour specials are generously sized. All of the food was good, but not amazing. The portions are generous so we were full and had leftovers.

This place was super close to our hotel so we thought we'd give it a try. Lots of choices and server was fantastic! Food was out of this world...spicy as we wanted. LOVED IT!

The food was reasonably good, but had little favor until our server brought out the spice tray, but only after having to ask for something. That did the trick and allowed us to flavor to our taste. I knew something was different when the server did not ask us how spicy we wanted our food. Our server was the worst I’ve had in some time. I almost thought he as auditioning for the Walking Dead. Not friendly, not helpful and with little or no personality. Hope he is looking for something more his style in the workforce. I guess we will be looking for another alternative on our next visit.

Im here with my friends , Steven Ayumi Victor Bryan Sillias!!! It was awsome time food was great i ever haven!! Im so appreciate to know here and price is so reasonable!!

We were referred by our Concierge (he recommended a different one initially but we wanted one closer). We were seated right away and service was efficient. Our food was tasty but nothing special. We both enjoyed our food and finished all of it, so portion sizes were just right. We felt the prices were a little high for Thai, but it seems that's just San Diego.

I'm in San Diego every July for Comic-Con, and this has been a regular stop for me for the past two years. As any Comic-Con attendee knows, all the restaurants in or near the Gaslamp are busy during this weekend, but if you have a reservation and come a bit later in the evening, you won't have much (or any) wait. Lotus Thai offers very satisfying and tasty Thai dishes; I especially like all the stir-fry meals with tofu, and the fish offerings. The spice level and taste of the ingredients is very good, and portion size, although a little small, is just right for one person, especially if you also have an appetizer. The menu has a wide variety of choices and lots of options for vegetarians. The atmosphere is casual (a bit loud during Comic-Con), and friendly. After two years' worth of positive experiences here, I'm looking forward to returning the next time I'm in San Diego.

Well decorated Thai restaurant. All authentic except for the American music, TV, and lack of Thai writing on the menu. My yellow chicken curry was flavousim and nicely spicy, but vegetables too chunky. I ate by myself and avoided the starters as they are sized for two. Good to see other Thai people choosing to eat here, always a good sign.

Went here the other night with some friends. The place looked a little overly formal, but the cocktails were all interesting, with fruits and other ingredients that were distinctly Thai, and not the kind of thing you'd find in most places. As a vegetarian, I ordered the pad thai, and it was good, but probably too much food for me to finish. It was a little on the expensive side, but I would try it again. The appetizer veggie spring rolls were probably the tastiest thing we've had.

Located in Gaslamp district of San Diego this restaurant has good & tasty Thai food. Menu has many options from appetizers to deserts. Stir fried spicy eggplant with veggies and choo chee fish.. tilapia fillet fried and topped with red curry tasted amazing. Sticky rice with mango was very tasty however portion was very small. Service is good and restaurant is good for family and couples.

Spicy eggplant with chicken was very tasty. Kids ordered their thai favorites: chicken satay and dumplings. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Highly recommend for thai in gaslamp!

I love Thai food! Every time I am away from home I search for a Thai restaurant from D.C. to NY, FL to CA, Lotus Thai was the most memorable because of the quality, service, portion size and depth of flavor. The Tom Yum soup was spiced wonderfully and every nuance...lime, lemongrass, mushroom was present. Green curry was gastronomic treat with ample chicken served in a perfect curried coconut sauce. The vegetables with Oyster sauce was simply delicious...so many different types of vegetables, plenty of chicken with a perfectly complimentary non-overpowering sauce. No I have not been to Thailand but, this is far from an average dining experience set in a contemporary styled, California chic atmosphere. Compared to the neighborhood, the cost for dinner was outstanding! If you like Thai....this is a must stop for a great treat!

Very friendly, helpful front of house lady. Varied, reasonably priced menu. Food very tasty. Can get quite busy and noisy at weekends.

100% - Service, food and manager specials. If I were a San Diego local I would definitely be back. The next time we come back, Lotus Thai is IN THE LIST!! Absolute flavor and incredible atmosphere. Only recommendation is to make the service experience a little bit more Thai - greeting at the door and thank you with the bill. That personal touch that takes you that much further back to Thailand.

This restaurant waters down its curry dishes. They have changed owners since I have been there. I will not be going back. And who knows what else they are skimping on? The price for water down curry. Very insulting! Stay away and spend your hard-earned cash somewhere else. That might be sanitary. Smells like an unmopped floor(stale food smells from years of uncleaned build-up).

Restaurant is beautiful inside. Food was awesome, and service was great! highly recommend Drunken noodles and Tom Kha Soup. If you love spicy food, they'll make it to your taste, and they actually do an amazing job. Good place for lunch and dinner.

Our group stopped for dinner on a Sunday. Though it says Lotus Thai they have a broad range of offerings. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Service was off the chart good! Happy hour Thai 21.ounce beer was only 5.00. We had lady fingers, egg rolls and gyoza for starters all were what you would expect. We chose the chicken soup pot Tom Ka? This soup is very, very good, enough for 4 adults. We also ordered stir fried spicy egg plant with mixed seafood, really good plenty of shrimp, scallops, and calamari. We also had the Phad Thai, this was the only let down everything authentic, but lacking in flavor. Over all awesome experience try their sticky rice and mango!

Perhaps we are spoiled by excellent Thai food in our home town of Melbourne, but my husband and I found this quite mundane. We had: Chicken Pad Thai(good), Vegetarian Tom Kha (bland) and Crispy Tofu(tough and not at all what we'd imagined) - the service was efficient. Nothing was wrong with this food, it just wasn't inspiring.

I have to start with the crab fried rice, best I've ever had and the first thing I order every time! I don't eat much curry, but everyone I've gone with loves all their currys and they're reliable sources. The honey glazed duck is always perfect and their Tom Kha, the best I've had. After all that, I cannot forget the service, they're always friendly and helpful with the specials. If you leave room for dessert, it's not easy, but ask ahead of time if they jave menos. It they do, you must order their sticky rice, also the best I've ever had!

A friend recommended this place while we were in town so we had to try it while we were in the Gaslamp Quarter. I watched as the waiter brought out other people's food and got excited because everything looked delicious. We started with the Chicken Satay which was great. Then I ordered the Chicken stir fry with cashew nuts & chili paste served with white rice. It was spicy & wonderful, exactly what I wanted. My only regret is that I didn't try a soup too.

This was one of my favorite meals while we were in San Diego. They no not have a full bar but have the ability to use a rice alcohol to make very delicious and fun cocktails. My table had the edamame, drunken noodles, stir fry, and fried rice. Everything was delicious and had fresh Thai flavors. The prices were also extremely reasonable. Highly recommend.

Everything was incredible. The tom yum soup was the best I have ever had . This place is very walkable from the downtown convention center area. The server and staff were friendly . Everything I had was just fantastic!! Great prices too. I highly recommend this restaurant.

My wife and I decided to enjoy our last dinner in San Diego close to the Indigo Hotel where we were staying. We were quickly greeted and seated at a very nice table next to the window. We place our order and the food was quickly prepared. I suspect the restaurant was understaffed...once we had our food we got no further attention. Water glasses were empty and there was no hope of getting a second glass of wine. The food tasted great. I ordered a curry dish with squid. The piece of meat were beautifully cut to look like cut crystal. The pieces of squid were large and very difficult to eat discreetly. Would I return...not likely...the gaslamp district seems to have an endless selection of great restaurants.

Great food, lovely staff and quick service. Central location in gaslight district. Recommended Enjoy.

The food is as good as I remembered from my last visit. Very attentive wait staff, they are able the offer smart suggestions. The price is good. Watch the hotness level! You could easily lay ruin your dinner if I you try to be macho about it. Parking at the downtown location can be a hassle. I can offer no alternatives but to suck it up & be ready to shell out $20+ to park. Try to plan multiple things to do in this area to make the parking price sting a bit less. This will always be a go to when I come to San Diego.

Food was okay, mango lemonade was amazing. However, the service team was having their lunch at the same time and had to get up every time you wanted anything. That's not good. There's another Thai a few blocks away and we will try there next time.

My wife and I visited for Valentine's Day. I started with the Tom Kha soup. This is not to be missed. It's a coconut based Thai hot and sour soup. It's the best that I've had. We split the Lotus Platter starter - which is a variety of their most popular starters. It was excellent, but probably enough for three or four people. My wife had the "Flaming Pork Chop" which was a marinated pork filet with a brown Thai sauce. It was very good. I had the "Drunken noodles" with mixed seafood. It had calamari, shrimp, mussels, and scallops in it. The noodles were a little mushy, and the taste was a little bland. I wouldn't recommend it. We experienced very good service, and the food was good. I would recommend the soup for sure, and their appetizers. That's enough for an entire meal!

We stopped here for lunch, the food was amazing and the portions were just right. My husband and I were in Thailand this past January, I won't lie and say it was as good as Thailand but it was pretty close. Sorry I forgot to take pictures.

Title of review says it all. Food was delicious, pricing was great (this is in gaslamp as well) and portion size was awesome. Service was top notch as well. Would definitely come back again!

Had a dinner there with my colleague. We were in SD for a business trip. This restaurant is down the street from our hotel. Friendly staff, nice settings and yummy food!

Lotus Thai was great! I travel to Thailand often and find it hard to get real Thai in America. The Tom Ka soup is fantastic and I had to have the Pad Thai. It was great too. Service was good.

I like the taro spring rolls a lot! Highly recommended. However, the curries we had (yellow curry and panang curry) were just average and quite expensive compared to other Thai restaurants, but hey, it's right in downtown with nice friendly staff and decoration.

First the bad, because so much good followed. We were seated last night Tuesday the 22nd and it took 15 minutes until we were greeted at the table. This was only after one of our table of 4 stood up and walked to the kitchen to ask for a waiter to take our order. The restaurant only had 4 to 5 tables and the manager and wait staff kept passing. Maybe it was just a fluke, or maybe we were just THIRSTY for a drink. After the slow start, the food and service were amazing. I highly recommend the Tom Kha soup, the pork gyoza, and I fell in love with the Panang Curry. All excellent. It seems rare for this group of friends to take doggie bags, but each person did. The food was too good to leave behind. Lotus Thai also provides a lovely environment for conversation and bonding over drinks and appetizers with friends. Rough start, but in the end, extremely happy!

To make a long story short: I've never had worse Thai food. I've been in Thailand, of course, you cannot compare this, but Thai cuisine in othet countries may be the standard to evaluate quality provided in this restaurant. First, the atmosphere seems to be like a sports bar. The menue card looks good, so we ordered some noodles with tamarind sauce and duck, what arrived at the table was a mixture of all looking as already have been eaten. I had a typical northern Thai menue with fried noodles and crabs, nothing remembered me at Thai flavouring or seasoning. The service did his business, nothing more. The only highlight was the local craft beer we had. So at the end, a bad experience of Thai food in a sports bar atmosphere. My suggestion: try another restaurant when you want to go out for Thai eating.

I always start my dinner with soup and the duck egg noodles was superb. The duck was tender and not too rich. It came in a big bowl that's meant to be eaten as a dinner. For my real dinner I had sea bass in white wine which had steamed bokchoy and scallion served with a little bowl of brown rice. The fish was cocked perfect; tender and succulent . Needless to say I finished my fish and took the rest of the noodles in the hopes of eating it later. For one person having two dish is a little too much food but oh was is soooo good! Tip- the website is not iPhone friendly. The reservation pop-up window occupies almost the entire page and you can't see the menu!

The quality and quantity of food varies so much that I won't be going back. The first time I ate here the lunch special was delicious and the serving size was quite large. I ordered the same lunch special the second time I ate here a few weeks later, but the food was bland and the portion was about half the size of the previous time. Barely enough to fill you up. Unfortunately the waiter was not very helpful or sympathetic. The restaurant is quite dark inside and not very pleasant - the lack of atmosphere would be acceptable if the food was good, but not for the mediocre meals they served us. There are many other consistently good Thai restaurants in San Diego - no need to settle on a restaurant with such inconsistent quality.

I've had Thai food all over the world including in its native land. Lotus Thai ranks among my favorites. All the dishes we tried were delightful. Favorites are the Tom Kha soup and Choo Chee fish. The are taste explosions! The servers are very attentive and the prices are very reasonable. During a recent short stay, I managed to have dinner twice at Lotus Thai. Don't miss it-- it's unforgettable.

Very average or below average. Nice staff and ambiance but food is mushy, and not well seasoned. Been there several times because my friends like it. There are many better Asaian restaurants in town.

The Lotus is fairly high rated by Zagat and was close to our hotel so we gave it a try. The rustic decor was a nice change from the sparkly feel of many Thai spots. Outdoor tables were also a nice feature for a balmy night. The service was good and the small selection of local beers on tap was a nice bonus. The food selection was standard and quite good, but nothing memorable... Apart from the fire! Their level 5 spicy was already hot, so beware of ordering any higher!

I was having a bit of a late dinner and this place was near where I was staying. It was very inexpensive and I got more food than I could eat. There wasn't a lot of rice in my serving but I didn't need much more. I had the yellow curry and it had nice flavor. My waitress came by often to check on me, and I left in a short amount of time. Wasn't anything special, just an average Thai place.

We had takeout. Fresh Heaven Rolls (shrimp) and Lemon Grass Chicken were plenty to share for two. Chicken is wrapped around a stick of lemon grass and then cooked-delightful presentation and flavor.

On a recent trip to San Diego, we ate twice at Lotus Thai and both times the food was excellent! The Tom Kha soup was the best I've tasted - and I love to eat Thai food wherever I go. The dumplings were full-flavored and savory. I didn't have any of their drinks, but some of the cocktails I saw others drinking looked inventive and sounded wonderful. When we return to San Diego, we'll be sure to return here!

After seeking out a good Thai place in the Gaslamp Quarter (using Trip Advisor and Yelp), we walked a long way to get there and arrived just in time to have a server close the door in our faces ten minutes before closing. We hadn't noticed on their website that they close at 3pm and arrived at 2:50pm. A server met us at the door and said they were closing. No offer to arrange takeout, no apology for closing early - or us being too close to closing time to seat - just a snippy, unfriendly, "We don't need your business" kind of Goodbye greeting. Not impressed and would not go back.

I had the spicy fried rice twice. Both times was equally delicious. I’d definitely eat here again. They were eager to accommodate vegan diet.

I was extremely pleasantly surprised with my dinner at Lotus -- I figured that it wouldn't be much more than a neighborhood Thai place. Mistaken I was -- Lotus serves the best kai tom kha that I have ever had, and they also make an excellent nua nam tok (cold beef salad). Surprisingly, they also have a number of good IPAs and other beers on tap. The server will ask you how spicy you want your food, using a scale of 1 to 10 -- I ordered 7, and it was pretty darned hot (I can't imagine going for the 10, and I like my food hot). Service is a bit slow, but that simply gives you more time for the burn to develop...

Lotus Thai is a very good restaurant. The options are both traditional and transformative. The Sea Bass in white wine and crab fried rice which were both excellent. The Pad Thai was good but not extraordinary. Unfortunately, the Flaming Pork was a let down. It was dry and not as tender as I had hoped. The Drunken Noodles were great, but we ordered medium spicy and it was very spicy for us. We did do takeout and it was convenient and quick. I would definitely go back.

Are you hungry for a great Thai meal right in downtown Gaslight district, try this Lotus Thai restaurant. We dined here and had a great time. Food, drinks, atmosphere, and local clientele make this a very good spot. Market street has many restaurants, but the ambience, food, low prices, and good solid wine list make this a find. Totally enjoyable experience. Easy to get to, take an Uber, avoid any parking hassle.

We were hungry for Asian food and this as nearby. We ordered ladyfingers and dumplings. I had the chicken wonton soup which was superb. My husband had chicken stir fry with bamboo shoots, green beans, mushrooms and chillies, which was wonderful. He had sake and I had a Singha. The bill was 65$. What a deal for a fine meal. Atmosphere was great. The service was exceptional.

When we arrived, they immediately served egg drop soup that was slightly spiced! Choices on lunch menu were great. Service was great. Total amount of food served was very large. Flavors were awesome. I would go back in a heartbeat any time I am in San Diego

Don’t have too much expectation for an authentic thai food here. Busy place with average food and average service.

This is the best Thai restaurant in San Diego. Drunken noodle is our favourite. It has beautiful decor, nice service.

There are perhaps four small tables that allow you to eat outdoors on the sidewalk and take in the street cafe atmosphere. Then there are several tables indoors. The tables and seats are just adequate- it's an unappealing indoor atmosphere, but the good quality fresh and tasty food makes tolerating the clean yet worn indoors worthwhile. Service is friendly. The portions are good size and reasonably priced. I would return.

We had a lotus platter for four and it was very good, a lot and for $15 very reasonable. Then we had three different curries and a phad thai, very good!! The service was excellent, the people friendly and helpful. In Gaslamp quarter, perfect location! Special advise: Go to the visitor center, in one of the booklet is a voucher for $10! :-)

Quick summary: Everything was fresh and delicious. Well-priced wine and cocktail menu. How do you not love fining with buddha and colorful lights? We were in town for a conference, and we shared a few dishes We made a good choice. Lanna gyoza -- chicken pot stickers -- were delicious, as were the pad thai duck and a red curry dish. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. We like spicy dishes but not at a flame-thrower level, and the dishes were prepared as requested. Good drinks menu, all fairly priced. Friendly, professional service. The atmosphere combines an airy dining room and bar with colorful kitsch -- fun to be in! We'd be happy to return here the next time we're in San Diego.

Atmosphere was casual, had a good view of busy market street. Reasonable good service, the lunch specials were tasty but not spectacular. Decent beer selection, got an Alesmith X Pale Ale.

This is very tasty place and great service. Their sauces are much richer than other Thai places I have been to. If you are downtown and want Thai this is the place for to go

Walk in on Tuesday night, immediately greeted and seated. Lovely setting. Had some local craft beer for reasonless price, beef satay and stir fried Thai holy basil, medium which was pretty warm and their amazing fried bananas which I would eat every time! Great service, great food, great value. We'll go again before we leave San Diego!!

one of the thai places that i liked a lot. authentic taste. friendly staff. lots of options in the menu. The food portion is massive.

I love Thai food. This place is great! I was on vacation, and it was recommended by hotel staff. My husband and I loved it! We had spring rolls, dim sum and green curry. We will definitely go back again before flying home.

Near to our hotel at the Horton in the Gaslamp Quarter, this Thai restaurant was a real find. We went on a Wednesday which gave us a 50% reduction on the wine, a real bargain. We both had the green Thai which was fab, ample portions as well. Service very attentive. One of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to in a long time. Strongly recommend

The atmosphere is pretty nice, wasn't crazy about the location but it is in the downtown so if that's what your looking for. Great Thai, really good flavors, but the mild was still pretty spicy for me. Good curries.

I ordered pad tai with tofu, the sauce was too sweet and the tofu was rubbery. Didn’t like it The service was ok

The place only had 3 other tables when we went in for dinner, but still had to wait to get served. The waiters were busy folding napkins. We ordered the tempura shrimp appy - I have never seen tempura shrimp like that, and not in a good way. I will say that the Tom Gai soup was really good. We also had the Pad Thai (noodles chewy, sauce ok) and the yellow curry with chicken. We asked for it spicy and found it very bland. I also asked the waiter if they had any Thai music that could be placed instead of the head pounding crap they had playing. He rolled his eyes and said no... okay then! I think it would really help with the atmosphere. I did see that they had won best Thai restaurant in 2008, 2009 and 2010... it has obviously fallen short in the last 4 years. Too bad.

From my many reviews, it is evident that Thai food is one of my favorites and my husband and I usually track down the nearest Thai restaurant when traveling. This time was no different. Lotus Thai was a great place for dinner. They allow dogs (which I loved!), the wait staff was helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the green curry, it was flavorful, with just the right amount of spicy. My husband ordered some kind of chicken but he loved it as well. There are t.v.s. so if you are interested in watching the game you can. There is also a bar. It was a very nice evening out for us and we really enjoyed eating and visiting Lotus Thai.

Went to dinner with a friend and had some amazing Thai food at Lotus Thai Cuisine. The spring rolls, coconut soup (cup size is more than enough), yellow curry and drunken noodles were all most excellent! Would certainly recommend and will certainly return.

I have eaten Thai food at many large cities in the US. Have yet to visit Thailand. We ordered two curry dishes. Both of them were salty and the flavors were not very good. Service was good but the food was fair at best

Had a late supper on a game night. Service was swift, spot and the food was authentic. Try the Northern Thai Sausage

I visited this place with my entire family. The ambience is quaint, with lovely Buddha statue and pictures, the music just perfect and it offers a great street view for those interested. We did not get any alcoholic beverages but tried the jasmine tea and green tea instead - the jasmine tea was so good !! We went for the chicken satay (that came with a fabulous peanut and chilli sauce) and chicken dumplings which were so good that we ordered 2 dishes more of them ! The shrimp dumplings were melt in mouth good !!! For the main course we tried the Panang with chicken and shrimp and the musasman with veggies. The panang has a perfect kaffir lime flavour to it ‘ however I absolutely loved the musaman - the peanut based curry was so creamy that even broccoli tasted good in the curry !! The dumplings are a must eat - Do try the green papaya salad - perfect and refreshing addition to main course !! The servers were great, coupled with awesome food it was totally worth the visit !! Would love to be back !!

I judge all Thai restaurants by their green curry. This one has the PERFECT flavour, it was right up there will the best I've ever had. Make the sauce a bit thicker to stick to the chicken and veggies and it would be tied with my #1. All of the other dishes our party ordered were equally stunning in their yumminess. Be warned - their spicy scale proved to be inconsistent. One dish's "medium" had just the right kick, another one's "medium" was just about at my level of heat tolerance. The place had a very pleasant decor and the atmosphere made a great initial impression. However after a few more tables were filled it proved to be rather loud, even though the place was actually only half full. Luckily by this time we had gotten our food and were more interested in the wonderful flavours than conversation. (If Management is reading this - consider some sound-dampening features in the dining room.) Bottom line - I'd absolutely, no question, go again...just perhaps not if I wanted to have a cozy chat with my dinner partner.

I can honestly rave about the decor, ambience, cozy seating at bar, privacy at cozy tables if you prefer, curries always delicious, and the soups are great as well. The staff is always kind, but never overeager to sell. They have daily deals also. For instance, on Tuesdays they have noodle bowls bygo 1/2 off, and they also feature wine Wednesdays and happy hour specials. It is in a very walkable area of San Diego; located in the East Village. There is outside seating as well.

Great food! Great service even during comic Con! Had a great time! Good drinks for a hot day. Awesome

Our hotel concierge (Hotel Indigo) recommended the nearby Lotus Thai Cuisine restaurant (Market Street at 9th Avenue) for a true Asian dinner experience. To seal the deal she gave us a special two-for-one voucher. The restaurant was spacious, warm and inviting with high ceilings. Our waitress was friendly and helpful because we were unfamiliar with Thai food. Finally, we order the Orange Curry Tenderloin ($18) and the Chicken on Fire ($19), with brown rice, plus white wine. Our platters arrived in a timely manner and the food was delicious—but a little on the spicy side.

We were looking for a good Thai meal, however it was late so not too many dishes. I ordered a beer and the Lotus Platter. It’s a combination of crispy spring rolls, lanna gyoza, chicken satay, lady finger and krathong-thong. We especially appreciated the lady finger (shrimp). We did not finish the Krathong-thong - pastry shell with curried chicken, potatoes and a relish - not much flavor. The platter was all fried and not bad. My wife ordered the Pad Thai - Fresh thin rice noodles, stir fried in tamarind seasoning with egg, tofu, bean sprouts, scallions, and crushed peanuts. It had great big chunks of chicken which we appreciated however the sauce sweet and the noodles mushy. I realize it’s difficult to judge an entire Restaurant by two dishes, but unfortunately this was our order. My wife is Asian so we eat Thai frequently and we cook Asian dishes often. Average experience, a disappointing experience for us.

Good selection of excellent Thai food. This is a little more creative than your average Thai restaurant. They also have a good selection of drinks including wine and beer. The service was friendly, maybe just a tiny little bit too funny and a little slow at times. Still recommended.

Great food, very pleasant atmosphere, reasonably priced, highly attentive service, super clean. This place way exceeded my expectations. Be aware that IMHO medium = hot for seasoning. But the food was awesome. This is a rare find and a great value.

We absolutely love Thai so not to go would have been unheard of, although the service was excellent the starters delicious the mains Beef Panang Curry and Red Curry Chicken tasted like they had added sugar.

I am a spicy lover wife not so much. we were both very satisfied with our meals. Not only because they matched our particular tastes but portions are such that doggie bags are a must.

My first time eating Thai. The server was so helpful and I didn't feel silly with my questions. She was so informative! The food was beyond tasty. I'm vegetarian & I had a tremendous amount of choices. I highly recommend this restaurant. I can't wait t come back!

Excellent choices for all things Thai. Try the Ginger Cosmo drink during Happy Hour (from 4-6pm). Reasonable prices and lots of choices. Large portions so recommend you share a dish or 2.

I got really hungry and was craving Thai food when I remember seeing this Thai restaurant before heading to Petco Park for their Holiday Winterland event. The interior was well-designed, quaint, and warm. The employees were welcoming and courteous; I was seated right away and the waitress was constantly checking up on me. I had their Chicken Fried Rice and it was delicious; their Thai Iced Tea was bomb! It's definitely worth checking out and I'll be back for sure!

I have rarely eaten so badly in my life. a terrible meal and very expensive for this quality. the meat in my soup tasted raw and unseasoned. the pasta was not cooked and not even stirred.

Picked this Thai restaurant due to the TripAdvisor reviews and the fact it was in the Gaslamp area. Had a fantastic meal - the food was top notch and really good value considering the area. Decent portion sizes, friendly service and the option to choose how spicy you want the dishes means a top rating from me!

We were excited to try the food after reading the reviews. We ordered take out or we would have sent back everything. Pad Thai was bland and tasteless except for a weird vinegar taste. Chicken lettuce wraps also tasted like vinegar and not much else. Hard to tell if was chicken or tofu. Chicken satay was only okay. The other dishes were meh and we threw it all out and ordered pizza. It was also expensive. Don’t waste your money.

This doesn't feel like the tourist-filled places in the Gas Lamp District even though it is close by. The food is very good and the atmosphere is relaxed. The service is good, too. You can walk here from any of the big hotels just across from the conference center.

Enjoyed our lunch here and the food was not great but good, no complaints just kind of average. If I have a suggestion a Thai restaurant MAYBE shouldn't be playing 2019 kids music but something a little more in tune with this type of place. I would go here again simply saying it is just okay in my book.

I ordered medium spicy Pad Thai for takeout -- I like spicy food, but this was inedible. If I had ordered it to eat in the restaurant, I would have sent it back. Would not return.

if you visit for lunch you will have more food than you can eat for a very small amount of money. Red and green curry are spectacular. Nice atmosphere and great selections.

Great food consistently. Open late night and always on the menu for a treat. Don't miss the Mumbo Mumbo Chicken - it's the best!

Lotus thai is the right place to hit for some spicy, hot, flavorful and hearty meal on chilly evenings!! This is a beautiful restaurant with beautiful decor and many servers to make sure every person, every table gets prompt service! Usually all Thai restaurants make a perfect option to dine at for vegan/vegetarian diet and this restaurant did full justice to serving us the best, flavorful vegetarian curries and noodles! Be sure to order a bowl of edamame to begin with as they are so well seasoned that you'd keep wanting more. They have very good spring rolls as well (4/order). I would call out that their thai iced coffee is better than iced tea! For curries, you can choose if you want brown rice or white rice with it! I loved the drunken noodles with fried tofu (so crispy). We also ordered pineapple spicy fried rice (off menu item) which was great!! Everything comes in generous portions! We ordered 3 entrees between 4 people and all of us were so full and content with our dinner!

We got two lunch specials (spicy green bean with chicken and ginger delight also with chicken), which consisted of a small cup of soup, (it was the soup of the day and was wonderful with a nice kick to it) a small salad that was ok, a spring roll with dip that was nice, hot, and crispy) and 2 drinks for under $30. Service was good. Our waitress (Judy) did not hover, but was there exactly when I needed more water. Medium spice level was good for both of us, but was not overpowering. I really enjoyed the mango tea with lemon.

We enjoyed the food here, ambience was nice and space was quiet. Recommended for vegetarians. We are used to great Thai foods in the bay area so we were not amused, but it was good enough.

Me and my boyfriend were having a look for a nice restaurant for our last evening in San Diego. We just passed by this restaurant and from outside it looked enjoyable. We didn't go first in but as we didn't find anything more interesting that this restaurant we returned. We got a nice table by the window. My jacket got its own coat-track just next to our table. I order a cocktail as appetizer, name I can't remember any more but it was something with exotic fruits and it was so good! As a starter we shared a plate of Tofu French Fries. I need to admit that it was one of the best tofu plates I have ever tasted. As a main dish I ordered Drunken Noodle with chicken. The portion was so huge that I couldn't finish it. And again - so tasty! The atmosphere of this award winning restaurant and its kind service team and delicious food is absolutely worth of visiting!

We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. I had a papaya salad and a green curry. You can choose how spicy you want it to be. I wanted it to be 'hot' and it definitely was hot, far more spicy than we usually get when we ask to make it hot. Yet, both dishes were still very tasty. I will go here again during my next visit to San Diego.

As touists in San Diego we came to this area actually looking for a different Thai restaurant. The other restaurant located just a few streets away was packed, and when we went in, no one even acknowledged us, so we decided to leave. It was getting late, so fortunately we found a table at Lotus. The neighborhood is very dubious, where rows and rows of homeless sleep on the sidewalk, making it feel rather unpredectable. This restaurant was also crowded but service was good and nice crowd, so we felt lucky. The food was good, even if the pad thai wasn't prepared as we like. We enjoyed the satay and dumplings. A few days later, on our way out of town, we decided to return for a quick lunch with our group. A lunch special was offered but not everyone in our group ordered it, but opted for something off the menu (which was probably a better choice). Only as we drove out of town did I realize that they charged every member of our group for the set lunch PLUS the individiual entrees. I called t to inform them about the mistake. No apology and they sounded doubtful. I never received a reimbursement... This could be avoided by carefully checking the bill-obvioulsy, but the fact that they made all kind of requests ( email/ photo of the bill, my cc number etc.)and dragged out the process so long and DID NOT return my money in the end( becasuse I didn't want to email my cc details around) speaks about the business. Couldn't they have just used my info on the bill?

Food, drink and service was fantastic. The waiter was obviously a fan of his own workplace and chatted to us for suitable periods of time about his love of the food there. It was very busy, and they did apologise that our waits might we slighlty longer than usual - they weren't. Very reasonably priced food and drink with a good variety for my vegetarian husband.

Very happy with the food and service at Lotus Thai. The sauces with the Chicken Satay starter were very tasty.

I order take out from Lotus Thai on a regular basis and never disappointed (except once they provided only one rice for two orders). Food is always fresh and flavorful, good use of herbs and spices, and they don’t overuse the chili. Have tried all of their wok dishes and keep coming back for more. Street parking only, no parking lot, but I endure it, since it is the closest, easiest, and best Thai restaurant from my home.

We have enjoyed Thai all over the US and this place was excellent! We shared Mussaman, Drunken noodles and Green Tofu Curry, The Green Curry was by far one of the best. Would love to go back here when we are in the area. It was very good and very reasonably priced. Casual atmosphere focusing on tasty Thai authentic flavors.

Really inattentive service, and so-so cuisine. We had three different dishes which we all agreed were "not terrible." Maybe we should have had three different dishes? Lackluster option in a city with so many choices.

We ordered take out for lunch for our work crew. I wasn't feeling too good and ordered soup and some dumplings. wow was I so overjoyed and surprised. The food hit the spot. Actually helped me feel better, and was absolutely delicious. The only down side is they don't open until noon. We start work at 0630 am, and want to order earlier to eat earlier.

Having lived in Thailand for 10 years I've become somewhat of a expert in Thai cuisine and Lotus Thai hits the mark.

The restaurant had very friendly staff. Good food with generous portions and a fine selection of local draft beers.

Went there during ComicCon, so, of course the place was a zoo. I had a wonderful Lychee Martini, and the water never stopped being poured. The Dim Sum was fantastic, as was the soup, but very surprisingly, the Pad Thai was not the best. Even though they were crowded, the service was excellent. We'll go there again next year we're there for the 'Con.

We tried the chicken pad thai,Tom Ka soup, and the massaman curry. The shrimp in the Tom Ka soup were tough and overcooked and the pad thai and the curry and pad thai seemed to lack a bit in flavor. Wasn't terrible but wasn't great either.

I chose this restaurant mainly for the 15% hotel recommendations discount, and overall it was a good decision. The appetizers and food were excellent, but the happy hour drinks were a bit underwhelming. The one drawback was that the hotel discount only applies to the bill as a whole—the restaurant doesn’t allow individual discounts, even when dining as separate parties. If I knew this before we ordered, would have left and it’s worth noting. Overall, I’d give it a semi-recommend—great food, but be mindful of the discount policy.

We visited the Gaslamp District of San Diego and decided to eat some Thai food in the area. Located off Fifth Av the Main Street for dining was Market Street where we located this restaurant. I had the Lemongrass Chicken and my wife the Basil Prawns- no chilli. Unfortunately this dish had chilli. Server did not listen. Whilst the flavours were good both the chicken and prawns were overcooked. Could only give an average ranking. I'm sure the food is usually good but we attended on an off night.

Visited Lotus Restaurant for dinner after reading reviews. Although it claims to be in gas lamp district, it is a bit of walk from the main gas-lamp district. Ample seating, but the ambiance was mediocre. We Ordered Red Curry plus Stir fried bamboo-shoot and chili sauce. Red curry was good. The service was fast, but I did not enjoy the dinning out experience there. Overall, the food and service were OK. Although, there was nothing negative or disappointing about food or the restaurant itself, it did not give me that dine-out experience. Location of restaurant was not attractive either. There are options within gas-lamp district with better food and better ambiance.

This is the best place for lunch or dinner. Bring your friends, family or a date. They always are accommodating. Eat here as often as I can.

Fast service but I have had better Thai food. Would recommend if you need quick food and delivery in the Gaslamp.

I'm a big fan of Lotus Thai and am most familiar with the one in Hillcrest. The food there is consistently excellent. I was downtown the other night and decided to go to the one there. The gyoza we ordered for appetizers were very good but my main dish, Lard Nar, was just so-so. There was something about the sauce I didn't care for. I've never had this experience at the Lotus Thai in Hillcrest.

We stopped at Lotus Thai for a later dinner after a Padres game, and we were very pleased with the food. It seemed a little more authentic than most, judging by the spice level of the dishes. On my next visit, I will definitely order a lot more modestly when the server asks me my preference for spice level. Lotus also has a full bar and draft beer, which is very uncommon for Thai restaurants.

Nice atmosphere, extensive variety on menu. Very clean restaurant, personnel very attentive and profesional, draft beer available makes it a plus.

Ok, so it’s a Saturday night and no one wants to work - I get it, however the service in this place was diabolical.....more interested in watching the TV’s as opposed to providing a service. A canteen style restaurant with pictures of Spider-Man and other Marvel characters hung up over the windows - I really didn’t understand it. Ordered chicken satay starter and duck curry main. The satay came out after the main and I asked for it to be cancelled. The duck was the toughest meat I have ever eaten. At no point did the TV watching staff come to me to ask if the meal was acceptable. I left quickly.... I didn’t receive a goodbye!
Extensive Menu
I had a card for complimentary crispy spring rolls which were of course fried but the server Jair let me get the fresh heaven rolls instead which were shrimp stuffed wrapped in the rice paper with the peanut sauce, my favorite. This appetizer alone would have been a good dinner with my happy hour beer, but once again I over ordered just because everything looked so good. I had the lard nar noodle dish with beef just because it was something I hadn't had before and it was huge and piping hot. There are so many good dishes here and this really wasn't something I would have again. But it was good and so was the service. Being as I was seated on the patio I saw many people going in and out picking up food to go so this seems to be a really popular place in the neighborhood.
