Amazing food, even better Staff

By Daniel C |

Beautifully crafted dishes that were jumping with flavour, as soon as we stepped in we were greeted with welcoming hospitality. We tried 2 of their special dishes and shared an appetiser and it was divine. We made the trip from Ireland and it was our last night eating in New York and it was worth every penny, definitely visiting again!

Terrible Food and Violated our ethical beliefs

By SK |

Extremely disappointing experience. My wife is a strict vegetarian for an Ethical reason and repeatedly asked for vegetarian noodles with tofu, yet they served her chicken. She unknowingly ate it, which violated her ethical beliefs and made her sick. They took the wrong dish back, and we had to wait another 30–40 minutes after already waiting an hour. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best — bland curry with poorly cooked beef. This restaurant showed a serious lack of care and respect for dietary preferences. I will not be returning.

Best Thai in the neighborhood and 9th Ave is known for good Thai!

By 4alexnyc |

Wow, really good, authentic Thai food. The crying tiger is the best dish but we haven't had any dish we haven't liked. It gets crowded so expect to wait if your going at prime time

YumYum @ LumLum

Smells wonderful walking in. Cocktails wonderful drinking. Food wonderful eating. Natives abound. What more can one ask? Def order the Bangkok Sun Kissed and PATTAYA BEACH cocktails. also Pad See Ew.

A Wonderful Addition

In a neighborhood rife with Thai restaurants, I am still happy to see another one when it is as good as Lum Lum (meaning yum yum, not to be confused with Yum Yum, the Thai restaurant just three blocks away), and when it replaces the tired Pam Real Thai. We started with a green papaya salad that had thinly sliced papaya with a strong sauce that was not too spicy (not easy). Then a deep fried pork belly with a tamarind dipping sauce would convert those who don’t like pork belly. Finally we shared a whole steamed fish with lemon-vinegar sauce. It was a strong fish well tempered by the sauce. The service was friendly, helpful, and efficient, the waitstaff all in cute tropical shirts. The tables were rather closely placed, but the airy décor made us feel less cramped. The young Asian crowd has discovered this place, so be prepared to wait.

Really yummy food

We had not booked, but they were able to accommodate us at the bar. Good service from the staff Menu is via a QR code We had a cocktail each and watched the bar tender first hand make it in front of us Food was very good quality and tasty

Delicious! Tight squeeze but worth it.

The steak and duck were standouts, but we enjoyed almost all the dishes. The non-alcoholic drinks were also good. We did not have a reservation and showed up at 5:30 PM on a weeknight, and we got the last free table. Guests after us had to wait for a table. I'm glad the place is popular, but keep that in mind. Recommendation to the restaurant (and to those reserving): the table by the entrance is too small for three people. It could be upgraded from a circle to a square without impacting the other tables around it.

Authentic Thai food - very tasty and reasonably priced

Amazing authentic Thai food . Friendly service , very clean . Very tasty fresh food . Beautiful presentation . Would 100% recommend. This place was recommended to us by a New Yorker we met in a bar .

Wonderful charming tasty restaurant

By OLenany |

It’s a small restaurant but really, really tasty with great service. Very cozy and welcoming. The service was very fast and people working there are very kind and efficient. I ordered mild drunken noodles , and they were quite spice for me, so they very nice and took it with no problem to redo them . The portions are quite big and filling. The main courses were very tasty, full of flavour, perfectly cooked, not under , not over. So overall great experience, highly recommend. The prices are good as well.

awful experience and very poor quality food and managment

By Endrius |

Horrible service, very poor service and worst food. Everything overkooked and brought all at the same time, so by the time you eat the last dish, that's cold. Bad bad bad I left zero tip and more than half of the food on the plate. Nobody asked me why I did not left any tip. Maybe they know how bad they are.

Great Food, but not great service, and atmosphere

By Piboon T. |

LumLum 3 Star To summarize, - Food: 50/ 60 - Atmosphere: 10/ 20 - Service: 5/ 20 - Food: We had grilled cuttlefish, served with spicy lime sauce. it was very fresh, the sourness of the lime juice mixed with a mild spicy enriched the chewy cuttlefish. Great! Main courses; Squid Ink fried rice, and Crying Tiger. I ordered this Squid Ink fried rice because I wanted to compare between Spanish style and Thai style. Both were great! Crying Tiger beef meat was sticky and juicy. Accommodated with a sweet & spicy sauce, of it's very savory. A mountain of fried garlic intertwined with a butter smell made this dish special. Plus when you knocked a yolk and mixed it with fried rice. It's irresistible. - Atmosphere: LumLum was very busy on weekend. and my table was right at the corner and they had my back seat push all the time when they walked passed. This was very annoying. The music was ok. Bamboo deco wasn't the best of the world, but surely it wasn't bad. - Service: I have to say if they wanted us to go back, the service has to be improved. I finished my fried rice but my partner's dish hadn't even arrived yet and the server came took my plate and asked me, How's everything? I believed he thought she finished her dish already which made me speechless. Overall, LumLum was an ok restaurant; If we talk only about food, I will say LumLum was great! But this is a restaurant, so there are other elements to consider. The portion was a bit small but acceptable. Not too expensive but it can be a bit larger. However, besides that they need improvement. I hope to come back here again to see if they listen to me or not. Thank you.

Good food and splendid service

We had a reunion with NY relatives over lunch. We shared many of their specialties and enjoyed the good food and service.

Best Thai Ever

By rtimhunt |

Had lunch here yesterday, very impressive. Best Pad Thai I ever had. Friendly and efficient, charming decor, not a thing out of place.

Delicious Thai restaurant, a bit expensive

By kelly |

Very busy place that’s in midtown. The servers were friendly, but they were still very attentive. We ordered papaya salad, crying tiger, drunken noodles and crab fried rice. Our favorite was the crying tiger as the other dishes were delicious but expected. The drinks were also really great. The only thing is the restaurant is a little more on the pricier side.

Terrible Service

By M A |

I’ve been to LumLum twice before and had a good experience both times, which is why I chose it for my husband’s birthday celebration—he loves Thai food. Unfortunately, this visit was so appallingly bad that I’ll never return. The staff seemed far more concerned with turning over tables quickly than providing any semblance of decent service. Waiters rushed to pour water, jamming their arms between us and splashing water onto the table in the process. When my husband’s drink arrived, it was filled to the brim, spilling down the waiter’s hand and leaving a puddle on the table, which the waiter ignored entirely. I had to get up and fetch napkins myself. They cleared our plates without asking if we were done, and the final straw was when they dropped the bill while I still had 3/4 of my cocktail left, holding the credit card machine in my face and loudly asking if I’d be paying with ApplePay. The entire experience was rude, sloppy, and disrespectful. If I could give negative stars for the service, I absolutely would.

Great Food with Friends

Food was excellent with a diverse menu ranging from traditional dishes to unique ones. Service was friendly and outstanding. Highly recommend!

Only OK

The restroom is so dark I may or may not have left my hat there. I couldn’t tell. The place is small. My papaya salad was nothing to write one about. I would probably go to another Thai place nearby next time.

Brand new Thai in Hell's Kitchen really hits the spot

By EANYC |

Having read on the internet that this new Thai restaurant already had 35 reviews on Google, all 5's, we made a reservation and ventured there. We were not at all disappointed. Two sisters own and run the restaurant and they are welcoming, warm, professional, the best hosts. It is a small and pretty place with a few tables by the window facing West 49th Street and a few more in a well-appointed comfortable dining room. There were four of us and we shared quite a few plates which I recommend in the special area below. Everything was very tasty and well-presented. In a part of the city where Thai restaurants are everywhere, the sisters that run the restaurant make all the difference. I am delighted to have added the restaurant on the TripAdvisor site and to write the first review. I wish them success because they certainly deserve it! Very highly recommended.

New Authentic Thai Restaurant

LumLum is in Midtown Manhattan which is not too far from my place . I give them a shot to try for lunch , even though they don't have the lunch menu . I try their Tom Ka coconut soup with chicken , I had to admit it is Taste like in Thailand , the texture of the broth and smell of the lemongrass is yummy . For entree I try Pad See EW shrimps , it is the best Pad See Ew I ever have , the smoky of the wok is just so right for my taste. loved it recommend it

Excellent!

Very decent and correctly priced Thai food. Super fast, super yummy. Only one downside, but it seems to be same everywhere we go: kinda small and noisy. Could Also be viewed as bustling and cosy…

Excellent food. Great price

Food was outstanding and great price. It’s crowded and not fancy but we would definitely go back. Great tastes and presentation. Really special

PROBABLY THE BEST THAI FOOD EVER.

We chose Lum Lum as a pre theatre supper restaurant and were delighted. The shrimp starter, shrimp Pad Thai and shrimp dry spice curry were all absolutely amazing. Great food and lovely service. A memorable time.

Overpriced and mediocre

By Melanie T |

Our party of four had ressos for 6 pm on a Friday and we all got there on time. There are two lines. One side is for people who have reservations and the other side is walk in. We had to wait 45 minutes even with a reservation. Meanwhile, they kept seating a lot of the walk-ins. Maybe because they were a smaller group? Either way, it totally defeats the purpose of us having made a reservation. I had to catch a show at 8 so we told them to just bring everything out as it was ready, so at least they got the food out to us pretty quickly. We ordered a bunch of things to share. We had the pad Thai, crab fried rice, squid ink fried rice, and the crying tiger. The pad Thai was pretty good. I really liked the scrambled egg drizzle on top. It was a nice presentation. The two fried rices were pretty basic. There wasn't much crab in the fried rice, and the squid ink just tasted like regular rice (but the variety of sauces did help a little). The crying tiger was a little chewy. It is cooked to a rare, which I don't mind but I think it was too rare for everyone else at my table. Overall, I think the food is over priced for its quality. This is hell's kitchen. There are plenty of Thai places that are less expensive and where you don't have to wait 45 minutes to be seated. They do seem to have some pretty unique dishes though - ones you wouldn't typically find at most standard Thai restaurants. Too bad most of my dining group that night does not eat raw food because there were some raw dishes I would have loved to try. However, I don't think it's enough to draw me back for a second visit.

Lovely food would highly recommend

Great atmosphere and tasty thai

By Natalie K |

Lumlum is such a cute date spot!! Food comes out quickly and it's packed with flavor. Also, don't skip the Mai Tai!! Definitely a must if you're in the area and craving Thai.

Great quick meal

By Joy |

The atmosphere was so cute and welcoming. The service was so efficient, we were in and out of there in 45 minutes. Our food was very good and the portions were filling! Close to broadway, this restaurant is the perfect quick and delicious meal before a show!

The flavors are too extreme - too spicy and too salty

By phdtravel |

This place is often full and even charges for reservations. If only it were deserving. My food was over seasoned too salty and too spicy. The woo sen with seafood was too salty. The tiger steak had very salty rice. The fried fish was too spicy to eat. Actually had a tummy ache that evening from that. The tom kah gai tasted off. All the flavors are too extreme. It is not like that in Thailand. Don’t eat here. It’s just the hype and herd mentality that makes people come here.

Bad restaurant ever

By Theodore |

OMG, this is the worst place I ever been in my life. The waiters are so rude, the worst ever. They also give the order whatever they want. They didn’t even know the name od the drinks we ordered. The food is so bad, servise so bad ever.

Trendy place (and yes, you pay the trendyness)

By Jan R |

Clearly the place to be, LumLum is a cool chill place with beachy vibes. The service was top, very friendly and down to earth. The food was great however overpriced. But hey, the place was crowded, so...

Asian!

By ElGustaio |

We enjoyed a good Asian dinner and cocktails (drinks). This little place was full of people which clearly indicates that it is good. It's a good choice to come back.

Cool new Thai spot in NYC but expensive

By Kieran |

Really enjoyed our experience in lumlum. Cool Asian beach vibes inside with the decor, music & the shirts the staff all wear. Food and cocktails were fantastic but at $75 per person for a starter main and drink it isn’t cheap. I’ll be back and will recommend to others but beware it’s more expensive than it looks.
