We went to the restaurant recommended by our hotel and where not disappointed we ordered chicken wings they come out dry with sauces on the side also we had fajitas which where amazing big portions I also had a bucket of bottles of Victoria beer which was a really good beer highly recommend this place if I’m New York.

Hubby and I visited this restaurant on a Saturday for a late lunch/early dinner before a concert. The place was packed at 3:00 which told me it would be great. We sat at the bar and ordered a margarita and Corona. I don't know much about tequila, but the very knowledgable server recommended a mid-price one which was smooth and potent. We ordered the small guacamole and chicken tacos to share. I wish I could add pictures, but they looked exactly like the previous poster's pics and I can tell you the guacamole was over the top delicious!! You can get it mild, medium, or hot. We ordered hot and I added extra hot sauce, because I love spicy and it wasn't really all that "hot". The 4 chicken tacos came with a side of cheese and beans which went perfectly together. The atmosphere is pleasant, service is great, and food is delicious. No complaints from me...we'll be back!

We had dinner here and have to saw was pretty disappointed, it really wasn’t as good as we have previously had, lack of taste and the service was also pretty mediocre

We tried this restaurant while we were on a 6-hour walking tour of NYC (recommended by our tour guide). My husband and I ordered the chicken tacos (3 each), and while they were tasty, there was very little chicken, and what was there consisted of tiny cut-up pieces. For the price ($28 for the 2 entrees), it just wasn't worth it. There was a side of black beans and rice, but we went away disappointed at the "chintzy" amount of meat in our tacos. The service was just "OK" -- nothing to write home about. We would definitely not return to this eatery.

This place is almost 5 starts but I took one away for a few reasons which I will touch on soon. First and foremost, the food and drinks (margaritas) are top notch. Myself and a few co-workers used go there every Friday for lunch. Never had a bad meal. Flavor on everything is a 10/10. They definitely do not pour lightly on the alcohol. Both frozen and on the rocks have a good amount of tequila. There is usually a wait for lunch (on Friday's atleast) if you don't get there right before 12pm. The reason I took away one star is because there is no buy back policy. Right now I have a receipt in front of me - there were 6 of us and we had about 4 drinks each. Mind you, this is in a matter of an hour and a half. Since we go there consistently and the servers and bartender know who we are, it would be appreciated to get a round of drinks once in awhile or maybe even a free guac. We go to the Bailey or Delmonico's or Stone Street Tavern and get a round from them. Because of this, we have not returned for lunch. Lastly, they have a table tent that advertises if you download a particular app you get your 10th margarita free... FALSE. They give you one punch per visit, not per margarita.

Went with my girlfriend for dinner during our stay in N.Y. Both service and food was great, especially the guacamole. Can really recommend it. We had chips & guacamole, chicken taco, chicken fahita, glass of wine, 2 beers and a mojito for about 90$

Bait and Switch Happy Hour Menu. We stopped in for Happy Hour, dined in the bar, ordered off the happy hour menu for 90 minutes/several times, in fact, asked the waiter for Happy Hour suggestions. When the bill came, we were charged FULL DINNER PRICES, a 100% over over Happy Hour. I was given the reason for inflated bill is that Happy Hour are only AT THE BAR, we were IN THE BAR. I asked to speak to the Manager, was directed to the front Hostess desk, Manager never showed, but the waiter did with two others and began yelling at us and pushed out the door onto the street. Gotta love NYC.

Had dinner here and enjoyed the food and service. Great Mexican food and drinks. Staff is friendly and fast. Was able to have gluten free options. The music is a little loud which makes it hard for conversation (upstairs may be quieter) but other than that,, it was great.

I recently went to Mad Dog and beans with a night out with my family. We started with the guacamole. This was the best guacamole we have ever had! A must have! We also had some fajitas and a burrito. Also very good! We did have the margaritas tower to wash all of the food down.

My buddy and I came here, honestly, not because we wanted to, but because it was the only place that had the least amount of time to wait. (You wait a long time to eat in NYC, lol) So we each just started off with some beer at the bar before our table was ready. Only Mexican beer peeps, no bud lite or other domestics. As an app, we got the hot guacomole. OH MY GOSH!!! So fresh and so good! Must try. My friend ordered the De Carne Tacos and he said that they were not the best that he has ever had but they were very good. I ordered the Tampiquena, which is a char-grilled skirt steak....whoa!! This was fantastic. It was recommended by the server and he was spot on. So if you are in FiDi...try this place out.

Myself and my daughter fancied a Mexican meal. We googled the nearest one to our hotel and we found this one. So of course we had to check TripAdvisor for reviews. We ended up picking this restaurant. We ordered our food and drinks. Our food arrived out but main arrived first. We said nothing as we were quite hungry, so we ate it. We were stuffed and hoping the waitress forget to order our appetiser (turned out she did so we said nothing). The food was gorgeous, we both ordered enchiladas which came with beans and rice, we left nothing on the plate. The staff were quiet enough but when we needed anything we’d just ask. It wasn’t busy so I thought they could have been more aware of empty plates and drink. The restaurant was clean and the price was quite reasonable. If I came back to NY I’d come to this restaurant again if I wanted Mexican.

Food was pretty good. Only criticism is that there were few vegetarian options on the menu so this place might not suit everyone

Nice place in the heart of Manhattan. Shares a large outdoor seating area with several other bars and restaurants for a very European look/feel. The wait staff provided excellent service. The guacamole is really fresh and tasty! Also had the Chicken Mole which was quite good as well. While a bit on the pricey side, you are dining in Manhattan. I would definitely come back here or to some of the adjacent restaurants as well.

Came for lunch and had the chicken burrito which was very good. Guacamole was a bit too spicy to my taste but still good. Prices were alright, and service was friendly. A little noisy and dark but it was part of the feeling of the place, I thought it was fine. Nice place overall.

I was here during the 10 days of Cinco de Mayo. The waiter was awesome, the chicken tacos tasty, and they had the best margarita I have had in a long time. Will definitely go back.

Took a colleague here and thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. They have both indoor and outdoor seating during the warmer weather. They have a excellent selection of drinks and a good Happy Hour that begins at 4:00. The menu has a great selection of appetizers from the traditional to the unique. That is the same for their entries. A very good selection of salads that can be modified with all types of meats and extras. The jalapeño guacamole dip was very good as was the carne tacos. A good spot for fun Mexican in the Financial District.

Very lively place on Saturday night for dinner. Ate upstairs which was a little quieter. Pretty slow service but appetizer was good. Waited almost 30 minutes for dinner to arrive, when it did my wife's food was wrong (peppers/onions which she is allergic to). Waiter apologized and sent it back to be remade. It took 25 minutes for hers to come back out. We shared my dinner and then split hers. They did offer 50% off her meal. Probably an isolated incident but it's not a place that is in any rush.

Was hanging out in Nyc financial district, when my boyfriend googled places to eat and bam! Mad Dog & beans appears. We were like let's go . It's just up the block and around the corner from Staten Island ferry terminal. When I say the food was delicious and price reasonable it was so satisfying that we came back the next day😁. The Mexican corn and the chimichangas wow. The mojitos weren't bad either. The staff and managers we also helpful and made for a awsome dining experience.

This is a great place for anyone wanting amazing mexican food! They are very friendly and have the best guac I've ever tried. Highly recommend to anyone in the nyc area!

We returned to Mad Dog for a dinner on the run up to Christmas. As has always been the way, the food and drink was very tasty and enjoyable. For my liking, the experienced was all a little rushed, food being served in the blink of an eye so we did not hang around

We had booked this for our first night in Manhattan. We arrived early to find fabulous music and a really lively atmosphere. Drinks were great and food fabulous. We had the guacamole and tacos - both delicious. We loved it so much we came back for a quick lunch before heading to the airport. Only downside was the meal felt rushed.

Very lively area on blocked off Stone Street. Lots of restaurants with outdoor seating. We had tasty margaritas and great guacamole. I had steak nachos. good flavor. My friend had the grilled shrimp tostadas. There were two large ones, they looked more like a taco salad. Her son had the chicken burrito. We all enjoyed our food very much! Will definitely go back. A bit of an adventure!

We spent half the weekend in the area staying at a nearby hotel and had food or drinks at half the places on the strip there and found Mad Dog and Beans to be one of the best places to grub and drink there. The atmosphere is nice, the food is good and the Tequila Menu is respectable. The salsa is more pico than salsa but tastes good, but our favorite was the Spicy Guacamole.

Only real complaint would be it’s a tad pricey, but in general it’s no worse than anything around it (if anything it’s cheap for stone street). I’ve done upstairs events, went on dates, came for brunch, came for drinks and dinner with friends, it’s a very reliable consistent good time with a great vibe. Has good guacamole and queso and great outdoor seating and vibe. The food is great across the board and my fiancé who has a dairy allergy loves the place.

The servings were fair for the price, the staff was friendly and the food was OK. It is readily apparent that for the restaurants in this little cluster "It all about the booze" They must have had nearly 30 different brands of tequila on the shelf. Upstairs dining is much quieter than down or outside, but it was by no stretch of the imagination quiet. Overall a positive experience.

We arrived in New York for a once in a life time trip before Christmas and on our first evening out decided to try this Mexican. Service was poor from the beginning ordered chips and salsa which didn't appear. Waiting 40 minutes in which time a table of 4 that came in after us had received their mains. We spoke to the manager to say we think we had been forgotten about; no offer for any more drinks etc, and still no food. Food then came after 45 mins although one of the orders was wrong! They also brought the chips and salsa out even though we said we didn't want them anymore. No one came over to ask how the meal was. We then asked for the bill and decided we weren't going to leave a tip (having spent over 4 weeks in America this year we are well aware of the expected gratuity and always leave a tip reflective of the service) on this occasion we decided not to, because of the service we received or lack of. What then happened was something neither of us were expecting and have never been spoken to so rudely, in any restaurant we have visited in the world! The waitress that served us brought the bill/cheque and asked do you need any change to which we replied no as we left the correct amount she then returned, gave a sarcastic comment and said "not sure if you are familiar with the tipping culture here in America" to which I replied "yes but we didn't receive a good service" she then said sarcastically "oh sorry about that Merry Christmas!" I was taken aback by then and couldn't believe the way I was spoken to. Then, she decided to come back to us and say how poorly she gets paid and that she works for her tips to which we then said if the service was better we would have tipped, she then went on and then told us to " just get out" (whilst she was then serving another couple that had just sat down). We couldn't believe how rude she was! We left and said thank you and she walked behind us and kept saying "just get out" we didn't want to then complain to the manager as it had already ruined our night and our first impressions of New York and we wanted to leave before we received any more abuse. We almost felt that if we had stayed any longer the short blonde haired waitress may have become physically abusive towards us. We left feeling utterly shocked and appalled by her behaviour and attitude towards paying customers!

Good food- the guacamole was really tasty. Very loud TV- too loud. Might be as superbowl Sunday when we were there. Good value. Nice setting.

The restaurant said we needed to be vaccinated to be able to eat indoors... we agreed to enjoy the outdoor seating because our friends raved about the food. Our server was Michael (but we didn't find that out until we viewed the bill). Michael was very to the point when he came to the table. I felt very uncomfortable but we ordered our drinks and appetizers. We received our drinks and one of our appetizers when Miguel (I think he was the Bus Boy) brought them out. We sat waiting but enjoying our appetizer when we realized that Michael must have forgot to place the full order. We got his attention because he was working several tables so that we could ask about the other appetizer. He said ok and walked away. He never asked if we needed anything else or were we placing an entrée order. Miguel brought out the appetizer and we asked him to please get Michael. When Michael approached the table he seemed frustrated (maybe because of the workload). We placed our order and that was the last time Michael came to our table. Whatever we needed we had to ask Miguel to please get it for us. We sat and noticed that Miguel was doing a lot of running. Running food, drinks and cleaning tables. They were all busy, but Miguel always have eye contact to see if anyone needed anything. Even when Michael was dealing with the two tables right next to ours he still didn't give eye contact or stopped to ask if everything was OK or if we needed anything. The table right next to ours complained until they left adding that they weren't leaving him a tip because he gave horrible service. When we finally stopped Jennifer and asked if she could get our check (because Michael still hadn't returned to the table) I asked Miguel for his name because we really appreciated his hard work and attentiveness. The food was good I just really couldn't enjoy it because my energy was thrown off by Michael's work ethics.

Amazing Mexican food! Great chill atmosphere and authentic flavours. Lots of options to choose from and great drink selections with friendly staff

This is a lovely restaurant and the food was really good, really large portions and very tasty. I had a Chicken Burrito, followed up with Churros & Chocolate. We had to wait ages to be sat as the place was really busy, but we did just turn up on a Sunday evening without having booked a table in advance. However, the waiting staff were great and found us a table as quickly as they could. The only thing that I found really disappointing was my drink, I ordered a Sangria which sadly was little more than a small tumbler filled with ice, a few tiny bits of fruit and a very watered down liquid that frankly didn't taste anything like Sangria. It was quite expensive too, so if like me you're used to the proper Sangria you get in Spain, you'll give this stuff a very wide berth.

We had a lovely late meal of Mexican Street Corn and Fajitas and of course the classic house margaritas. The restaurant has a fantastic vibe and our servers were really attentive.

They have indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice on a warm day. The food was tasty, with fresh ingredients, as was their signature margarita.

In Stone Street, the end nearest the park from where the ferries go to the Statue of Liberty you will find the street set up with tables from all the resturants. We eat at Mad Dog & Beans. It was great as you sit on tables with others and all end up chatting. Food abd drink was good and reasonable for central New York. Well worth having lunch there.

This restaurant is awesome If you want real Mexican food. Everyone is very polite and friendly. Our waiter Chris was amazing,he was the best. He always made sure we were taken care of. He kept coming back to make sure we didn't need anything. On another note, the Margarita was the best coconut margarita that I ever tasted in my life .. Thanks, Mad dog & our waiter, Chris.

Great Latin atmosphere! Waitstaff was courteous and speedy service. We had drinks and food was yummy. Skirt steak was cooked to perfection. Quesadilla was crispy and cheesy. We stayed for a long time. Two floors. Downstairs is loud and lively! Upstairs a little more reserved.

This was our first night in New York and it set the standard for the rest of the trip. Fast service, great quality and a really good atmosphere. We had the tacos (with chicken), the burrito bowl and shared some nachos. We were stuffed and enjoyed it all.

We loved Mad Dog and Beans! As others have said it is a bit loud, but we were lucky to get a corner table near the front of the building which was a bit quieter. We all ordered margaritas - traditional, passionfruit, and spicy and they were all great!! Our waitress was excellent and was sure to tell us not to miss the guac, so we ordered a single order to share. We easily could have eaten the large! We all agreed that this was the best guac we'd ever had. For dinner we ordered two salads and tacos and everything was great. We didn't have time to stop by back, but we really wished we did!

Booked a table last minute, only outdoor seating available, but when we arrived we could have an outdoor table which was lush. Fab atmosphere, great food and lovely margaritas. What else do you want from a Mexican restaurant?

The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food very good the value was acceptable. They just need to turn down the music, the place is very loud.

We were looking for a place close to our Financial District hotel and came across MD&B. Very cool interior and vibe. Our waitress was on point and very fun! The guac was excellent, as were our various margaritas. Highly recommend blood orange. BUT, for the price, they were rather small. Our table ordered burrito bowl, pork tacos, chicken sliders and enchiladas. All were OK, not WOW! The meat in both the sliders and tacos was dry. Realize we're in NYC, but the $170 bill (w/ tip) far exceeded both quality and quantity of our meals.

Over priced, average food (with the exception of the guacamole), horrible service - hard to mess up Mexican, but they succeed.

Fantastic hidden gem in New York! A must visit if you are in this area. We had the best guacamole and margaritas. Lovely welcoming staff and relaxed atmosphere. If we’d not had a booking to get to we’d have stayed longer. Thank you Mad Dogs for such a memorable visit and we hope to be back one day.

Fun place to eat on stone street. It is an old cobble stone street shut off to traffic with quite a few places to eat. Tables fill the street picnic family size and small tables for two. Inside seating was also available. My shrimp enchilada was average. Nice green sauce. Hubby had a huge beef burrito which he enjoyed. Pineapple margarita was yummy. Service was good.

Although it was very crowded we did not have to wait long for food. We had some good vegetarian food but we had to ask for some hot sauce (it was not at all spicy). Good marguerita's. I might come again next time I visit the city.

Picked Super Bowl Sunday which was an experience. Food was of a really high quality and waiting staff were very professional. Great restaurant. The guacamole starter was elite

I used to live in California and this is the only Mexican restaurant I've found in New York which is as good. It's New York prices, however. Steak tacos, fish tacos, fajitas... can't go wrong! Sit outside during summer on Stone street. Enjoy! Gave 4 star because of prices, a little steep for a burrito

I used to live in Manhattan about a decade ago and have always loved lower Manhattan. Since moving to St. Louis and starting a family I have longed for my days as a New Yorker. Well I finally brought my two children (ages 8 and 6) and my husband to NYC to show them the city I love. Our first night there we just walked around lower Manhattan and decided to eat at Mad Dog and Beans and it was outstanding from the service (to which my 6 year old said "was the best waiter he ever met") to the drinks, to the food (phenomenal queso fundido) to the people we met sitting next to us. Adorable outside seating if you can get it. Love, Love, Loved this place. We can't wait to return to NYC and to Mad Dog!!!

I had dinner at this restaurant last night. I have to say the atmosphere is really good and probably a great happy hour spot in the Financial District. The food was very average. I thought the best thing on the menu was the guacamole by far. I wasn’t a huge fan of my steak and chicken fajitas. I was expecting it to be a bit better. Anyway, go visit for lunch, but not a must eat restaurant when visiting NYC.

Stone street in downtown Manhattan is the place to be during lunch hour. It's a row of restaurants with different food flavors. I have been to Mad Dog for lunch with associates and really like the food and the ambience. The plaintains and guacamole appetizer is to die for. I usually go for the shrimp platter which is skewed in a bed of yellow rice with black beans. All the dishes are super as everyone in different occasions love the food and want to go back. It is one of my favorites go to places during the summer months.

In anticipation of a cruise for the next 3 weeks we went searching for a list of not-bland food. Literally bumping into the restaurant we took a chance. Serving mostly antojitos rather than meals we were quite surprised at the outcome. We had homemade guacamole of which we chose the spiciest version. It was excellent. We also had the mango salad with chicken made with a large base of mango. It was excellent. Finally we had mixed fajitas with all the usual accompaniments which was very good. Two things could have helped make it 5 stars. First better chips, and second a bit more staff.

My husband and I were in New York on a family and friends trip. Fell across this place by chance whilst looking for a meal later at night. First visit was on a Saturday night when unfortunately we seated ourselves and got such a glare and were reprimanded by the staff. No one came to serve us so we left. We decided to visit the following evening and entered by another door and we're seated immediately. Order taken and complimentary water served. My husband had a beer and our friend had a margarita which was lovely. I stuck with the water. My husband had the Mexican burger, I had the shrimp burrito. Both our meals were so tasty and filling. We were asked if everything was ok which of course it was. We returned the following evening (Monday) and the drinks and food was equally as good and the service was fine too. Portions are plentiful. Based on the English £ prices seemed a little hefty but it is New York and the £ doesn't go as far as it did. I'd recommend this place but perhaps avoid busy times as the service may not be as good!

This restaurant is in the lively Stone Street area which is a closed off road with outside seating available. This is a pretty standard Mexican restaurant which is fine if unexciting. The service was attentive and generally this is fine. However nothing that places this place above others.

In town for business and found Mad Dog & Beans near my hotel. Great food with quick service. Recommended if you are searching for Americanized Mexican Food.

Good and tasty...good service. Worth the effort...stand out from the crowd of choices when you just need something that's not another Italian restaurant.

This restaurant is on a cobblestone street not too far from battery park. Food was very good and the restaurant itself is not over crowded with tables. The service was ok, a little slow and could have been more attentive. Would eat here again based on food alone.

Food was decent. We came for lunch, there was no crowd and no wait. I had the pinapple salad and it was ok. The burrito bowl was bland. The atmosphere is awesome but the staff was so unhelpful and so unfriendly. Unbelievely rude....

This was a good choice for lunch in regards to the food. Very good chips, salsa and queso and the chicken enchiladas and quesadillas were great. It was very loud with the music so difficult to carry on a conversation.

We enjoyed our food AFTER having to ask for silverware & a side item that was ordered. The couple beside us got their drinks & appetizers after their entree. And only half of the large party behind us got served until someone got up and approached a manager. But as mentioned both of the dinners we ordered tasted great.

Stumbled upon this place as we were heading to Times Square from our hotel. Really lovely staff, scrumptious food and blood orange margarita's were to die for. Made sure we went back again.

Attended a corporate type Happy Hour event on the second floor. Basically Beers/Ritas and Apps..The food was very tasty and the service was excellent...Only problem was we could have used more space. Will definitely go back.

Stunning place and its food. His people, his music. Everything was fantastic. Nachos with meat and cheese... die! And the tacos, the fatties, their homemade desserts, their beer... everything... 10000000 x 1000000 recommended.

We love this restaurant. Really Mexican! The guacemole is excellent. Great quality and friendly service.

we ate here after our trip to statue of liberty. The Nachos and beef burrito was the best i ever had. i cant wait to come back here when im in new york.

Friendly service good drinks and decent food. Nice outside seating area and inside more quiet and quaint

Too dark, too noisy, big draft at the table. Clearly a popular place. Food was pretty decent, but a little hit or miss. Some fine, some things cold, etc. no particular reason to go here, but not bad either.

Great service, great atmosphere. The wait staff were so helpful. The margaritas lovely and that guacamole dip! A must to have as a starter. Highly recommend.

Stopped here for lunch. The drinks were good and the food even better. Our group had the Papaya shrimp, Chicken Pineapple Salad and fahittas. Everything was delicous. Prompt service and our server was very friendly.

Here in Texas, we take Mexican food (and there are many varieties) for granted. It was great to walk out of our hotel on Wall Street and find not just a Mexican restaurant, but one that would be right here at home in Texas. Only thing that didn't work was the music. Took a dozen people from work here, no reservations, and the staff were very accommodating. And the food was very good - fresh guacamole, good chips, and excellent street tacos. I would consider this as good as Mexican food gets north of the Texas border.

Mad Dog & Beans was a recommendation by a friend. After my visit, I definitely recommend it too :) We went there for a late lunch: friendly service, tasty food, cool ambience.... Make sure to have tres leche dessert after you're done with lunch/dinner.

I was brought here for my going away party for work. We spotted the margarita tower on the menu and that's how it started. A couple of hours and a few towers later, we were having a great time. Would definitely go back.

The selection of beer was good - the food was no better than OK. I had the burrito bowl - which came served with..... Tortilla wraps. Seriously. If you want tortilla - just order a normal burrito. Why they would encourage someone to choose a burrito without the wrap - and then serve them the wrap on the side is beyond me! Service was average for NY.

Great food. Very flavorful. The fresh guacamole is a must-order. It is excellent! I've had many dishes here, and I have had work functions here. Everyone leaves satisfied. Among my favorites are the steak, the pulled pork sliders, the seared tuna salad, and the fish tacos. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is super loud.

The place is really nice in the heart of New York city. The guacamole is a must. The ambiance is Mexican and the food is authentic and tasty. Prices are ok.

I had arrived and checked into my hotel and now it was dinner time. A little late for some (around 8:30) but New York is the "city that never sleeps," so I wasn't worried. I ambled around Pearl and Stone for a bit eschewing the Irish bar scene and loud party types, not wanting either. Mexican wasn't on my radar, but I spied Mad Dog & Beans, and it looked inviting. I went in and was promptly seated. I ordered the Tampiquena, a char-grilled skirt steak with a cheese enchilada and poblano rajas. Served with Mexican rice and re-fried beans. I equivocated a bit, and ordered it "medium to medium rare." Good thing I had a perceptive waitress! The steak was done to perfection! "I thought you might like it more on the rare side," she said. She was right! There was more than enough food, but as one who pretty much eats everything put in front of him, I cleaned my plates (the rice and beans are served on a separate plate). The waitress was very accommodating. I asked her to change the channel on the TV nearest me from Sunday Night Football to MLB, and she did so unhesitatingly. I walked out full and satisfied, happy to have found a place to my liking. As a postscript: Not every restaurant in New York City is a find or a gem. In my five night stay in the city, I had some very forgettable, mediocre dinners. This wasn't one of them.

Came here for lunch on our first day of vacation. Very cute atmosphere and great staff. I had the chicken quesadilla, and my partner had the burrito bowl. My meal was delicious, he said his was a bit plain, lacking flavor. The sangria was on point. So damn good. I wish i had 4 more.

I liked this place overall. Seemed mostly like a loud after work crowd. Sat in a deuce in the back (furthest away from the Pearl Street entrance). Apparently, Happy Hour only applies at the bar (which I think is really stupid since we were sitting 5ft from the bar!). Then I found out that the house margarita was $11. Seriously? The marg was good enough but the bartender used regular salt for the rim (instead of the kosher/coarser salt) which meant I had to scrape it off the glass. Our server "Megan," after bringing our drinks & taking our order announced suddenly that someone else would take over our table (unsure why) and that other person took awhile to appear... However, all of the servers/staff seemed very friendly! I ordered a shrimp burrito which I thought was great (although my stomach was a bit funny not long after we left!!) but when I asked someone to bring me extra sour cream, it took way too long. Also, the same happened when I asked for a spoon. Both eventually arrived but it seemed no one was communicating (ex "hey your spoon/extra order is en route..."). Therefore, we opted to not order anything else (we were contemplating a second round) and got the check.

Great place, server was quite knowledgeable and helped out with questions about what we should do on visit. Really good Mexican. Wish there was one back in Nashville!

Amazing Mexican restaurant. Very busy and lively, but great for our family. Food was amazing and portions were large. We could have ordered half the food we did. Highly recommended!

We were desperatly searching for a place to eat after a long day strolling the streets of New York and we were lucky enough to find this restarant on Tripadvisor. The food was marveolus, the staff helpful and friendly and the enviroment as nice as a restaurant can be. We hadn't reserved a table but the staff quickley managed to find a space for us. We'll be sure to come back if we visit New York again

Me and some friends had dinner here last night and we were not disappointed. All the food was good, above your standard mexican food. I had the beef burrito, but also tried the chilli con carne and some quesadilla. All were tasty. A good location!

Just popped by for cocktails and nachos but really fast friendly service, great atmosphere. Full of cool people, really attentive service

We stayed in the financial district and the restaurant is within waling distance. An ok Mexican restaurant with maybe already some of the dishes to American. Quick bite if you have not much time. But not for romantic dinners.

Great food and service, very popular so busy (not the place for a quiet dinner). We started our meal with guacamole and hot chips.... amazing, so even if you don't stop for dinner try the guacamole and hot chips they are immense!! We left here completely full having had fajitas and enchiladas, with a couple of cocktails. We'd definitely recommend.

Food & Service is great, atmospher, loudness of people is insane! Too loud to really savor the flavor.

I grew up in California so I know Mexican food. If you like bland food and very uninspired service this is the place for you. I had come here with my employees a couple of years ago and felt the same way, but a hostess called Rejeanne really did everything she could to accommodate us. But now, on my 2nd visit, I must warn people about this place. NO BUENO AT ALL!

Stone Street is known for many restaurants and great outdoor seating on one of the cities oldest cobblestone streets. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food then stop by Mad Dog and Beans. The guacamole from mild to hot is outstanding as is the rest of the menu.

Good Mex restaurant, food is good, prices moderate. Strange was that waitresses wanted to take my credit card "with her" inside the restaurant for authorisation due to fact we seat on the terrace...she can do that on the hand held POS or to check out immediately...the rest was really OK.

We ate at the one on 38th St. The food and frozen margarita was on point. Make sure to get the guacamole.

We ate staying in the FD area and have eaten a few burgers and drinks in Stone St, so tried the Mexican instead. We sat waiting for z long while then the waitress advised we had to scan the APP for the menu. My phone wouldn't load....eventually I caught attention. We asked x2 then someone gave us a printed menu but advised the prices are not right. We ordered 2 x drinks and asked for water as it was a hot evening. Plus some food. Alcoholic drinks arrived but no water. Starters arrived and the chicken wings were tasty. We asked for more napkins though as it was very sticky to eat. Asked for the eater again! Nope....no water was provided. Main course and the speedy you want more drinks? Running off as I again asked for water! More drinks...I really only wanted some water....! I struggled to eat the ridiculously expensive fajita as I was really wanting that water! The bill came to $123 and I'm afraid no tip as left waiting for ages, had no idea of their prices and blatantly ignored the request for water. Feeling taken advantage of as tourists....everywhere else we ate in the area had been spot on so this was an expensive disappointment. Only eat here if you use the app, are no from the UK and have your own water!

Lively crowd, great music, tasteful and um strong drinks..at a great price!!! The food was fresh and delicious.. It gets busy for a reason! Came alone..but didn't feel like it...wonderful place to hang out, eat and drink.

Nice bar, comfortable setting, good service... came here for a small business event and enjoyed some great apps... wings, pulled pork sliders, quesadillas, and pitchers of margaritas... all good!!!

I saw the reviews for this place so pre-booked prior to our trip. The food is amazing!! We loved the whole ambience of the place. The waiting staff were really friendly and helpful. The tacos, burritos and fajitas were superb. I would return when we’re in NYC again.

This is a fantastic after work drinks spot right in midtown. I am especially a fan of their 2 for 1 margarita happy hour special. The food is also quite good.

The location is super cool and the guacamole is just like from Mexico. We ordered ours medium and the chips were fresh and warm. The steak tacos were melt in your mouth good. The house margarita is so smooth that you can enjoy more than one. Can't wait to revisit this restaurant!

We had outdoor seating on Stone Street. The wait was not too long for a Friday evening. The menu has many options and the guacamole is awesome! We loved the chicken quesadillas and enchiladas. Fun spot. Great sangria.

Mexican-style restaurant with good food and fast service. Started with the Guac and had fish tacos. The guacamole was very good. The fish tacos were a bit disappointing. The fish was Mahi mahi, but had little flavor and quite small.

We were looking for a place to have dinner on a Sunday evening that wasn't a pub. Very few places in the financial district were open. Mad Dog and Beans had a crowd and it wasn't a pub. The service was non existent, it took forever to get our drinks and the food was just ok. Oddly, on a Sunday night, the place was packed. We ate, paid and left - hardly a memorable evening.

We went for my birthday dinner with friends. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere in this small restaurant in-the historic financial district of New York City.

The service was terrible! It took 35 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food, including appetizer. And then it was cold! Manager was dismissive, probably because we were tourists. Took the inedible dip off the bill, after lecturing us that it was described properly on the menu.

The food, decor and service was second to none! I loved the little bowl of guacamole! Just tucked away in the heart of the stock exchange!

Good food and drinks (margaritas), but even upstairs, it is very difficult to talk because of the lack of sound dampening.

If I could piss on stone street and mark it as my own territory I would. Abundance of good varied choices. Just like any dog playing fetch I keep coming back for more. Mad dog & beans was a new one for me. Big portion texmex went down a treat at lunchtime. Word of advice for management- get some beers on draught.

Best guacamole! They make it right in front of you! I love the steak tampiquena dinner which comes with a very delicious cheese enchilada, peppers, rice, and beans. Impressive decor and music is also a plus.

This was an unexpected find when looking for a good dinner in the Financial District. Mexican food was high standard, fresh and tasty. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was energetic. A great range of cocktails and beers to choose from. All at reasonable prices for NY.

We visited MD&B on recommendation of a close friend. The cocktails and food lived up to expectations but this is not a place in which to hold a conversation. We sat outside in a covered area but were surrounded by screaming locals. Just bad timing I guess but be aware it is a lively place!

We happened to walk by this place and decided to go in. The bar tender said they had just opened that week. I ordered a margarita and some nachos. The nachos were really good. The margarita was decent. It was kind of dead when we arrived but by the time we left, the place was full of people. We had a good time. Service was fast and attentive.

Had a great meal here. Mixed crowd with a great atmosphere. Only negative was the aircon made it uncomfortably cold!

Grilled Pineapple Margarita?! You bet! It was amazing, as was all the food. Good service, as well. Will definitely go back when in the area.

Stone Street so crowded we couldn't get through so entered back or maybe it's the front. 4 of us squeezed into the bar and downed 8 margaritas plus 2 bowls of guacamole mixture that was really good with the margaritas. We were there early and it just kept filling up more. Had to struggle getting both in and out on Saturday night October fest.

The reason for the rating was because of the food. It is amazing. They serve you chips and I had the enchiladas; which were amazing. The service is not top notch but average enough to get my order in , etc. The place was super full and the waiting time to sit down was less than 2 minutes but the wait for the food is a bit longer. I still recommend the place.

Loved the food here ... Being a vegetarian they had food options ... We had their burrito bowl and nachos .. Both were really good and the portion sizes are big. They have a fairly large seating area and the staff is friendly. The service is quick and the food is fresh. If you are in the area and craving for some Mexican food .. This is a place to visit.

We have had guacamole all around the US and this rates with some of the best. Freshly made and served with tasty chips. I had the chicken "chimis" that we the perfect size after eating so many chips and guacamole.

Lots of alfresco space at this yummy Mexican cantina. There were a few different vegetarian options on their brunch menu, which included coffee and a drink(ie: frozen margarita or orange juice or Bloody Mary). Service wasn’t great, a bit slow and not overly attentive. Lost a point for that but otherwise could recommend.

This was our third visit to NYC. We take the subway just to eat here! Spring - Fall you can eat outside and enjoy the liveliness of New York like a local. We have a family of five and have enjoyed a mix of everything on the menu and loved it all. The guac and chips are the best we have ever had. It is in walking distance to the free Staten Island Ferry and views of Lady Liberty, as well as Freedom Tower and WTC memorial.

Gave this place a third chance, similar results again. The first time was a Friday. Their excuse? we are too busy! Soooo they didn't expect to be very busy on a Friday eve in the financial district? Same thing on a Wednesday and today for 5 de Mayo... who would think to go to a Mexican place for 5 de Mayo? apparently everybody except them. 1 1/2 hours for lunch! Want to add injury? they pre-charge 20% tip and we were not a group! (just 5) Food was poor in quality, amounts, and part of my food was almost raw. Nunca mas amigos!

Good margaritas, good chips and queso, good chimichanga, good service. I was very happy with my visit and will definitely come again when I make it back to NY

I had to wait around 20 minutes for a table, which was fine. I got chicken fajitas and the cheese/chorizo dip. The dip was basically a blob of half-melted cheese. It tasted pretty good but was very heavy. The chicken fajitas were also very average. The seasoning was very lemon/lime-ey, and somehow needed salt. All of this with a soda was around $50 after tax and considering that my whole family can eat for around that at most of the Mexican places we go to, kind of put a damper on the experience as well. Service was good. Very attentive waitress who thanked me for waiting for a table and coming in. But I don't think it will be enough to bring me back.

Food is fabulous, portions are more than ample, staff extremely helpful and an all round great place to eat

Tucked away in an alley, offering Mexican fare at typical New York prices, prices from $14 and up. Service is good though getting your bill when it's busy can be slow. Food is good- however chili was too salty, had to send back, and the tacos were mini- tacos. Beers are $7. Overall I've been to better Mexican restaurants. Seating inside and outside.

We went for some late night munchies and were totally stuffed when we finished. It's so nice to sit outside and enjoy everything. The servers were very busy but we were taken good care of. Definitely recommend!

Went here for solo dinner one evening, it was pretty busy (6.30pm) and I opted to sit at a table downstairs. The atmosphere was good - very loud music, low lighting etc. Which was fine for me, but not sure how I could have a conversation with someone across the table- the waiter struggled to hear me! If I was in a group I would opt for somewhere quieter to sit. Food was great, individually dressed nachos (little odd but lovely) and pulled pork tacos which were great. Big portions and good value too. The red sangria was excellent too.

Bartender Madeline or whatever her name is. gave us really bad customer service , we had order a guac & chips while we sat at the bar for drinks. Waited almost an hour till we closed the tab and payed then we noticed she charged us for the guac and chips we never got. She started yelling at us in front of all customers because we didn’t tip her … but why should we ? If she didn’t bother to come check on us or check if we got our guacamole and chips .. very unprofessional! She denied her service when she’s on her shifts so that says a lot from her , it’s kinda embarrassing to see that Mad Dog has bartenders who like that

This was a repeat visit after some good, and mediocre experiences here in the past. This time, it was positive. We had not booked and there was a 15 min or so wait for a table, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. Dinner was very good, not overly authentic true Mexican, but tasty and fresh. A word of warning, on every occasion we have been, the place is bustling and quite boisterous, so do not go it you are looking for a quite meal!

My friends and I love mad dogs and love to hang out there for lunch and sometimes after work. We just love the guacamole and chips with extra peppers and love the food.

Called in here to try something different, and it certainly was that! The outside of this restaurant is all decked out in very colourful lights, but that's nothing to what you see on the inside. It was extremely colourful, with lovely multi coloured crockery on the tables. We were early enough so we can't judge the atmosphere as there was nobody else there when we arrived. We were seated at high stools and tables towards the front of the restaurant. I see from other reviewers that there is also seating upstairs. A huge bowl of tortilla chips with accompanying dips was brought to our table. We ordered Shrimp Alambre and a Chicken Torta for our meal. I have to admit, when I saw the Refried Beans on the plate I was really taken aback. They are black, in a black sauce, and looked like something you would sandwich bricks together with if you were building a house! I ate the rest of the meal, but I did struggle with it due to the Refried Beans. It was an experience to be in a very different type restaurant but I wouldn’t be in a hurry back.

I popped in here with my friend when Iw as visiting and this place is packed. We didn't have to wait long to grab a table outside but they are shared so some people are more fun to sit next to than others lol. This is probably always the case in communal settings. The food comes out quick everything we had tasted nice and the servers are constantly running around grabbing drinks etc. It's a fun little spot to hit on a Friday night.

I went with a colleague and we ordered chicken wings and some tacos.. Loved the food. On sitting we were served nachos.. Which I thought came free but later we were told that the nachos arrived on our table by mistake.. They didn't charge us for that 😊 nice of them. If you are planning for a casual drinks and dinner or lunch .. This is a good place.: recommended for friends families colleagues but not for serious office meeting.

The waitress went out of her way to find us a table for 4 which was difficult as the restaurant was packed. The music was quite loud but bearable but the groups of people shouting over the music were unbearable. Margaritas are excellent and the food was good but not excellent. Desserts were buy one and get one free and they were great value for money. Would not rush back because of the noise.

Vibrant atmosphere. Lots of people having a good time. Really Good guacamole. Service is noticeably slow. Food is average other than the guacamole. 3 stars is a bit light but it isn’t 4. So 3.5.

Ordered food to go from here on our first night in NYC based on a friend’s recommendation. It was a bit of a wait for the food but it was worth it! Gorgeous food and fresh Margaritas. The black beans and rice that come with each dish were especially delicious. Restaurant was busy every night and had a good atmosphere.

Cons: service was terrible! Only one hostess had any sense of service and hospitality, the rest were in some kind of zone that left us begging for napkins, cutlery, and basic tools to eat our meals (nevermind constant reminders for forgotten menu items and refills..) Pros: cool environment and great food!

We ate here after finding the restaurant on google and we are so glad we did! if you eat here you have to order the guacamole it is delicious!! We also ordered a side of fries which came with a smoky mayonnaise, yummy!!

I visited Mad Fos & Beans with my office colleagues and the food is awesome. You can find lot of mexican varities here.

After a long, hot day of sightseeing, we stopped here for drinks (Sangria, yum!) and had some nachos. We love the outdoor dining on Stone Street and being that we were in Battery Park, it was a perfect place to stop on our walk back to our hotel. Being that it was Friday mid-afternoon, it was pretty busy, so we were seated at a table that would seat 2 comfortably, but was set-up for 4 and "divided" with these little bench-seat dividers. So, it was no surprise when they seated another couple at our table...however, I couldn't help but feel a bit claustrophobic, which is not something that typically bothers me. Honestly, we might have stayed for dinner had it not felt so tight at the table.

Overall service is average but the guacamole and margarita were really good . The place is very busy , noisy and not quite a place to chat. The the other food /mains were OK. only,

Called in whilst staying on Wall Street. excellent fajitas, too much to finish. Buzzing atmosphere and very friendly staff. Highly recommended

Great place to hang with friends after work. The food was amazing. I had the chicken tacos and chicken quesadillas with mango margaritas as well as their guacamole (the guac os huge). The service was fast and it was very busy. The wait can be long especially on the weekends but worth the wait.

We had a amazing time here at mad dog the food was outstanding service was quick prices was reasonable and cocktails was outstanding loved every minute here cheers

We was a party of three and went for dinner and the sat us in a tinny table for two when our food came there was no room so with the plates on hands moved another table to us no very friendly way and the food was absolutely disgusting we ordered chicken and beef fajitas meet hard as rock and chicken was like cooked 3 days before! We spend $100.00 and left all the food basically we only eat the tortillas

Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday night with a few friends at around 6, and the place wasn't too packed. At the time, I was on a no-carb diet, but there weren't really any no-carb items on the menu. I went with the burrito bowl, but told them no rice. They really took care of me because they gave me a lot of extra steak instead (no extra charge), and I left feeling stuffed. Plus, it was pretty good. Now that I'm back on carbs (who was I kidding?), I wouldn't mind trying out some of their other menu items. The only thing that stinks is that they don't have any happy hour specials, so Mad Dog & Beans: if you're reading this, please get on that!

Classic, good Mexican cuisine generously served by smiling personal. Spanish speaking clients is a proof of quality! The place to lunch when working or shopping in the center of NYC.

We love the food (the fajitas are so good) and margaritas (strong!) here, good value for a great meal. However - I find the staff are often disorganised and abrupt. It's a busy place in the evenings but the least I'd expect is a helpful rather than surly response. Basically put, the kitchen and bar carries this place, from my recent experiences.

Food pretty OK, music a bit loud. We had a good dinner experience with friends. The street - stone street - is a must see, but for culinary highlights you should go somewhere else. Nice weather, a beer, friends and then it is perfect.

Good mexican food on the pricier side for what it is. The location close to battery park is good and the steak tampiquana was actually very good.

I came in for Happy Hour. It was amazing! The food and margaritas were delicious. The bartenders were very friendly and outgoing. I am from Connecticut but will definitely be back!

We stopped for lunch. We ordered margaritas and chips and salsa and got three varieties of salsas. Then we closed out our bar tab and had lunch. Although you pay for the chips, they refill the chips. I had the corn tacos. I thought that was going to be too much for me to eat, but they were cute little ones and were perfect. We loved it.

Loud place with an up and down seating areas. Guacamole was great and could have been a bit more spicy since that's the way I ordered it. Food was ok, not great.

If you want to eat special mexican food, you can go Mad Dog & Beans and enjoy! Specially me and my friend like quesadillas (with cheese).

My new local go to place in the city!!! Loved it! The mexican nachos were just delicious!!! and loved the margarita they serve here. Customer service is amaaaazing!!

Stumbled upon this place one evening and it was just what we needed. After a long day of shopping, on our way back to the hotel we noticed a street lined with restaurants and outdoor seating. Although it was busy and the soccer game was on, we were seated right away. We weren't extremely hungry so we just ordered apps and a beer. Service was great and the food came out right away. The guacamole was on point, probably the best I've ever had. For that reason alone, I will go back to this place. The outdoor seating and the ambiance of this place was cool. Great find!!

All I can really say is the service was great food was great drinks we’re awesome !! Place was nice and dark very laid back setting, would certainly say try the Queso fundido omg super delicious also vegan and vegetarian options are available.

This bar is really cool inside! We just stopped in for appetizers and drinks..The strawberry & pineapple margaritas were very good! Loved the chips & guacamole <3

Regardless of how busy, staff is tentative. The drinks are phenomenal and the food quality is great and portion size is perfect. The inside of the restaurant is cute, but you also have the option of being outside and enjoying the atmosphere of stone street. Its the go to at stone street for us!

Found this place near hotel while wandering around. There were people sitting on outside tables eating big bowls of guacamole. We had to stop and try it ourselves. They can make it mild, medium or spicy. It was so good. I had the shrimp quesadilla and my daughter had a vegetarian burrito. Both excellent. Only wish they had one in my hometown!

Being a Texan it is hard for me to enjoy margaritas anywhere outside Texas. That being said, I have downed my fair share of margaritas here. We started coming here after work in 2008 when we worked on Wall Street and the tradition remains!

Cozy and warm restaurant / bar with great food. The guacamole is excellent, with fresh homemade tortilla chips. The enchiladas pollo mole was very good and authentic. Great selection of tequila and beer. At Christmas it is all done up with hundreds of lights making it very festive! The tables and chairs are sturdy wood and comfortable. Loved that this place was on historic Stone st, great vibe.

I visited this place on my lunch break and afterwork with co-workers...the frozen mango margarita is great!!! The food is filing and taste good. Happy hours drinks are $5...there's both outdoor and indoor seating ...nice place to visit for drinks with friends

Recommended this location by the Staten Island Ferry crew. Had a great meal and the atmosphere around the whole area is fab. We ate at lunch time but I think it would be even better in the evening.

Very fresh, excellent meal. We all enjoyed our lunches and we are a hard to please group. I would definitely return to this restaurant when I next visit NYC.

I settled on Mad Dig and Beans from the several restaurants lining Stone Street. Since it had just rained I grabbed a table inside. I ordered. the obligatory chips and salsa. The salsa was great, all fresh ingredients and chunky. I also had the steak tacos. The corn tortillas were homemade and coupled with the well seasoned steak was tasty. The refried black beans were a pleasant surprise as they were light and flavorful. The service was OK, but seemed to be hurrying me a bit as the bus boy picked up my dish when I was still contemplating if I was actually finished. Oh well he saved me a few calories.

Walking by and stopped in for lunch. Pleasantly surprised! Had the shrimp tacos and chips and salsa. Shrimp tacos were very good. Could taste some cactus and I believe crisped cabbage or seaweed. Salsas were excellent and show respect to the spicy salsa! Great food, good atmosphere.

I have been here countless times for business lunches over several years. I like this place because it is consistent. The food is good and service is usually good too. Guacamole is appetizer of choice. The Tempiquana steak dish is outstanding. Fajitas, Chicken torta sandwich good. The burger is a stand out and if you like rare they actually cook it perfectly which is unusual these days. Cannot speak to the margaritas as we don't drink them. Beer selection is adequate with Modello Negra a favorite of one of my business friends so that's good. Today the waiter made a point of telling us that soda refills are not free. We are all on business and expense accounts so not much concern for me but a few of the guys with us made a point of griping about that as petty and cheesy. I'm just throwing that out there so that management sees that some people have strong feelings about that. I know that tourists that come to NYC are really concerned with that also for some reason. I see that in many reviews. Not a big deal to me as I only have one or two sodas at lunch anyway. If you like flan I guess its OK - not huge size. Some folks have had other deserts there but not rave reviews on any of them actually. I don't eat desert so not an issue for me. If you are in the area and want Mexican this is a good place. I would not go out of my way to journey here.

LOVE the location of this place, all of the restaurants along Stone Street share tables & chairs out on the pedestrian only street. We ended up eating inside due to the weather, we were seated quickly and had drinks and apps quickly too. Menu is mostly what you would expect with a few twists (I had a salad with avacado & grilled pineapple, it was delicious!) On the pricey side, but nothing in NYC comes cheap!

Amazing guacamole app and taco bowl! Outdoor seating was a very cool concept. The service was awfully slow but our waitress was lovely and the food was well worth it.
Horrible Service
Made a reservation months in advance to come with a large group for my bachelorette party. We got there 15 minutes early and table was not ready, at the time of our reservation table still wasn't ready. We were told they "overbooked" and "didn't know when we will be able to sit" - really put my bachelorette party to a very poor start. Had to wait 30 minutes and pester the host multiple times before finally being seated. Nothing was done to rectify the situation, not even a round of drinks. Obviously this establishment doesn't care much about the customer. The food was also very slow to come out and mediocre at best. Disappointing experience all around.
