Poor food

By jimmy c |

Worst steak pie I have ever had wife had chicken wings terrible fatty under cooked . My favourite dish is steak pie and you do not put carrots, peas and potatoes in when cooking you have them on side and it's puff pastry you use not short crust will never return. Maybe chef should visit Scotland to see how to cook proper steak pie luck for us they where out of scotch eggs can only imagine what we would have received.

Scrumptious Cottage Pie

By nxactly |

I had the Cottage Pie. It was scrumptious!!! Makenzie was so attentive and made sure I had everything I needed and FAST! And Victor, the manager also checked in a couple of times and I had to tell him how awesome it was. Will definitely be back. Tomorrow night! It's karaoke night! You should check this place out! Not to mention the prices are LOW when compared to nearby restaurants. Everyone should hit this place up before going home.

Corner of the Riverwalk

By LVSquared |

Wandered in for some scotch eggs and live music...the live music didn't disappoint. Overcooked chicken paired with an excellent waffle was a split. We probably won't return...

Fun riverwalk hangout

By hippechikk |

Fun place to watch a game. Good food and good service. Get the cottage pie or the scotch eggs! Say hello to Nicole :)

UK in Texas

By John M B |

A fantastic setting on the Riverwalk. The greeting was warm and welcoming and the choice of beer and food extensive. The wait staff were very good with lots of patience as we deliberated on our order. The food reflected the food of the UK and was very well presented.

good address for a drink or two

By Roger W |

Mad Dogs is nicely located on the River Walk and also offers some seating at it. It's not really a British pub in my opinion, it's already pretty Americanized. The atmosphere was pleasant so far and the staff was friendly and attentive. We came here twice and always had a good time. Price certainly more in the upper frame.

Great time at Maddogs!

By BrianJ330 |

I took some of my coworkers to Maddogs for a few drinks. We only planned on staying an hour or so, but the karaoke was so entertaining. We ended up staying all night. Our waitress Stacy did a great job taking care of us, very attentive. The manager Eva also came and talk to us a few times. Super fun and friendly staff, keep it up!

FRUIT FLIES ?!

By Amy C |

We were waiting for our hotel room to become available and decided to go in for a coupled drinks. Sat at the bar in front of the beer spouts and i don't know how the girls working there were even able to get a glass of beer without fruit flies EVERYWHERE! It was really disgusting! We even moved down away from the spouts and it was just as bad. Despite the lack of cleanliness the bartenders were good and prompt (probably because nobody else was in there - should have realized that when we entered huh) I'm just gonna say if that was what you could see then i can't imagine what it was like behind the bar where we can't see ... That Bar rescue show would have a field day in here!

Great Pub on The Riverwalk!

By rzahm |

While visiting the Riverwalk in San Antonio we decided to have a drink. We stopped at Mad Dogs British Pub and sat outside. The weather was perfect and this location feels comfortable outside. We ordered our beers and decided to try the Scotch Eggs, wow. Highly recommend. We had a few drinks, met some great people and then saw the bats emerge from under the bridge (it's a thing in San Antonio). It was a perfect stop on our visit.

Large Portions. Cold Beer

By Driver88 |

Ordered 2 fish and chips. Fish pieces were some of the largest we have ever received. Served piping hot. Beer was cold. Very good service.

Lots of fun except for one rude waitress.

By Hector G |

Our first day at Riverwalk and we decided to stop in and have a drink.Melissa our waitress was amazing, she was so attentive and friendly, I can’t say enough good things about her.The entire staff from the hostess who seated us to the gentleman at the door where all very friendly and made our experience there awesome. We ended up staying because we enjoyed the live music and service so much. The following night we were returning to our hotel and decided to stop in again to have one last drink for the night, this time our waitress was not so nice, we were seated outside and she seemed annoyed by us asking what the drink specials were that night, she was so rude and obnoxious that we decided to leave, another employee Lorelei noticed we were not happy and turned us around with her great attitude so we asked to be moved to another table. My advice ..stay away from the waitress with the really short red hair that works the patio area, rest of the staff are 10/10!!

Almost non alcoholic

By sven1945 |

The staff was friendly and helpful The drinks were very weak the caesar salad was fresh and the chicken was good but the caesar dressing was less than impressive Maybe get a burger and beer the can’t water those down

So much fun

By M. Vaughn |

We came in with a birthday party group of 12 to watch the Astros play! They won the pennant that night! We had so much fun. The staff was great. Food and drinks were good. Paid a bit more for the drinks than I thought we should've but oh well THE ASTROS WON THE PENNANT THAT NIGHT!!!! WOO HOO.

Credit Card Fee! - July 2024

By Kitman |

Cruising the Riverwalk one night, I decided to give this place a try. It was fairly busy for a weekday evening. But I pulled up a stool at the bar. The bartender was quick to serve and also gave me a menu to look over. I wasn't really hungry but definitely saw a few items on the menu that I wouldn't have minded trying. I just stayed with my Smithwick red ale as I watched a semi-final European Cup soccer match on one of their many screen. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. But it seems like everywhere I go, if there's a British pub, it's busy! Guess us Yankees like them. FYI: this place charges a 3% credit card fee if you charge it. I’ve now seen both flat fees and percentage charges if you use a credit card. I definitely don’t agree with this “new” charge I’ve experienced at a few places. There is no parking that I know of. You have to find a spot on the street or use one of the public lots if you're not staying at one of the riverwalk hotels. Midweek and in the evening, it was a flat rate $8. But during the busier times, that would have only covered a couple hours of parking.

Not for senior citizens, I surmise.

By DaDa |

We were carded at the entryway -- an unusual thing for folks well over 60. We were told, upon completion of the entry protocol, that we could sit anywhere. Two circuits of the interior revealed nowhere to sit (at bar or tables). Most of the clientele were standing. There was one table free -- a table in the remote corner of the restaurant that would have seated about ten. We chose two of the chairs, assuming that others could occupy other seats with plenty of room for social distancing (which was, in fact, not being practiced elsewhere throughout the space). After 10 minutes and no one to take our order, we were approached by a staff member explaining that we couldn't sit there. Of course, we were told we could sit anywhere -- a contradiction, therefore! No sign saying "reserved" was posted on the table. There was nowhere else to sit. It was a noisy rambunctious place with ample rudeness to satisfy every need for such.

WILL GO BACK!!!!!!!!

By Stewie R |

the food, the servers (especially Lovely Berto behind the outside bar) as well as the interior were immaculate! we will definitely be going back :)

Sexy Ricky - thank you

By Martlem M |

Ricky you rocked and it was a blast! Until next time! Your manager should give your a raise! 😊 This is a must see in San Antonio

Will Return

By 808imiloa |

Consistently good food. Went there for lunch one day, fish & chips was enormous, generous portion and the lunch beer special ice cold. Was so good returned the next day for the bangers and mash, equally great and generous and of course another ice cold beer. Reasonably priced, and authentic pub atmosphere. Especially impressed whenever a supervisor hustles and helps bus tables when busy. I will definitely return because I support an establishment who supports the military with a discount. And did I mention the great food.

Great place to stop on the River Walk.

By tgmar |

Just stopped in for a quick beer during the heat of the afternoon, nice atmosphere, had great service from Lorelei, very friendly and courteous, would go back again.

First visit to Mad Dog

By Scott D |

We stopped there for lunch. It was busy, but we got right in to a table. Our server, Adrian, was there in maybe a minute to take our drink order. He also, was kind and helpful with recommendations. When the food arrived - which was very timely- it was delicious. The atmosphere was comfortable, lots of people gathering and having a good time. I definitely recommend this restaurant. And you can enjoy the walk along the river to and from your meal!

Great pub on the riverwalk

By missouritraveler76 |

This pub is spot on authentic. We have been to the UK twice and this place would fit right in anywhere. And the fish and chips was outstanding.

Dinner

By Clea H |

Menu choice was limited and food very disappointing. Sausages were so overcooked it was difficult to cut through them. The meat in the pie was tough and chewy.

Limited menu, Loud music

By Ninjagimp |

We stopped in for lunch. The restaurant offers seating inside and out. The area is pleasant, clean, and on the Riverwalk. However, on the day of our visit, the kitchen was unable to serve anything fried -- so, the menu was limited. The food that was served was good. The "background" music was too loud and hampered conversation with my companions.

Average food, meh atmosphere, meh service

By Webproze |

I sat at the bar, so this may be different than table service. However, I was walking by, looking for a place to have dinner. I saw this place and thought "Well, the Brits aren't exactly known for their cuisine", but I saw scotch eggs and they had me. I ordered the scotch eggs and they were pretty good. Probably a 4/5, which is better than I've had in a lot of places. The BLT was average..nothing great, nothing terrible. The beer was cold, but word of advice: Stay away from Rodeo Clown DIPA. Blech. Not Mad Dog's fault, of course. But the server was busy texting or looking at her phone or whatever. Didn't really pay attention to the folks at the bar, as she was the only one bartending so she had to take care of the waitresses. I had to flag her down for a glass of water, never got silverware or a napkin, so I just grabbed a bunch from the cocktail napkin stack. The fries were cold and not good. Had I to do it over again, I probably would have kept walking down the Riverwalk.

Consistent year over year

By Alexandra A |

Always great pub food. Cottage pie and fish n chips are great. Real proper beans.. if your British you will get it

Chill place

By JK |

Very relaxing, comfortable British pub - with casual eats of beer and appetizers. Cute atmosphere - has a British phone booth and a mini cooper inside

The Fish & Chips Have Changed

By Eyes of TX |

No longer the same Fish & Chips I was used to when I lived here. It's probably been at least two years since I last visited Mad Dogs and being born in England (Half British/Half American), I used to enthusiastically recommend Mad Dogs to friends. The go to meal has always been a Scotch Egg starter, Union Jack Margarita, and Fish and Chips. The eggs and margs are still very good but the new fish and chips are a long fall from "World Famous" and I'll be on the hunt for a new fish and chip fix in San Antonio. The current iteration isn't bad, but it's just average, nothing special. While it was a disappointment for me as I remember their previous version that WAS World Famous, I'll probably opt for some more traditional Tex-Mex on return visits to the Riverwalk. If you do bring back the old Fish and Chips, market the return and I'll happily be back (and bring friends).

Great Pub

By MikeD166 |

Great find on the Riverwalk, I always explore places in the area online, menus, reviews. With so many places to choose from this one felt right. Felt comfortable like at the pubs in the UK. We went twice, a group of 6. They took great care of us both nights with a smile, first Brenda then McKenzie. On busy nights they were right there for all our needs, drinks and food service. Everyone liked their food, great menu, that's why we went twice, it's not easy for 6 of us to agree on a place twice. Got the Scotch eggs both times :). Great atmosphere, music every night. I went there for a goodbye Guinness the next morning and had a chat with the manager, great guy. We'll definitely be back next time we're in San Antonio. Thanks!

Amazing bartending

By Susie Abet |

First time in the river walk and Esteban, aka Xbox, made it an awesome experience. Would definitely come back to this restaurant. First time having an Irish car bomb, It’s now my new drink! Amazing bartender!!!!!!!👌😁was going to only have a drink and leave but decided to stay until closing! So much fun.

Overall great atmosphere!

By joseph erickson |

Great service, tasty drinks, cute waitresses and good music! Overall great atmosphere! Friendly staff with a variety of drinks. We highly recommend the bar. Shoutout to Emorie and Crystal- thanks for a good time!

The server was rude right

By Dusty |

The server was rude right off the bat when we got seated. Rolled her eyes the entire time we was There like she didn’t want to be at work. Wont be coming back make sure you get some people that want to work.

Too many options to go here

By Barryj333 |

Really just a disappointment. Drinks were ok but, as the food, way overpriced. Food was cool and only mediocre. Our one on our trip everyone agreed to be less than satisfactory. Find another place to spend your money with.

Great spot for a beer and a shot.

By Blake F |

Great service from Sharon. Good pit stop along the riverwalk... Good daily specials. The chips and curry sauce was good.

Excellent visit

By C W |

We frequented this bar several times over the week we stayed in San Antonio. We found the wait staff to be very friendly and service was great. They have a great selection of alcohol and a variety of beer. The menu here is what you'd expect from a pub. We found the food to be very good with ample servings.

Ok Pub! Confusing ‘uniforms’!

By Aberdeen567 |

Visited while staying on the riverwalk. Bar itself was fine, good selection of drinks and food. Wait staff did a great job. We did feel sorry for the poor female wait staff being made to wear ‘uniforms’ mini kilts which barely covered their butts. Really don’t see the need for this? Male waiters had full length kilts. Why are we treating female staff in this way in 2020 🙄

Has nothing to do with dogs, madness, etc

By Experience180531 |

Sure, they fly a commercialized version of the Union Jack, serve beer...after that, it is a place for beer. Three cans of Coors Light and replaying "Strawberry Fields" by the Beatles in your living room at home is about the same and a lot less expensive.

Turned out to be our fav place

By melissasw304 |

We were there 4 out of the 5 days we were in San Antonio. They have Smithwicks on tap (hubby's fav), the staff is friendly, the food is delish. We will def go back if we're ever in San Antonio. We liked it so much we even bought Tshirts!

Great spot to enjoy the views

By Wandering Lovebirds |

We had a fantastic stop at Mad Dogs British Pub during our Riverwalk stroll. The patio seating right on the water offered great views and prime people-watching — perfect for unwinding before our flight. Live 90s rock music added such a fun atmosphere (Tom Petty and Stone Temple Pilots were highlights!). Service was wonderful; our waitress, Yella, was friendly, efficient, and charming. We tried the famous fish & chips, substituting mashed potatoes for fries. The potatoes were chunky and mild, but the fish itself was excellent — beautifully crispy on the outside and perfectly flaky inside. One large piece was more than enough for the two of us to share. A great stop along the Riverwalk with solid food and a lively vibe. We’d absolutely return.

GREAT!

By Nicole R |

We went for a sister wknd and had a blast! We stopped at on the bend and Jessica Medrano was our server! She was great! Helped us pick from the tasty drink and food menu! Was super helpful and patient! Great place! Great service! Great drink and food!

FUN

By Paul B |

Visited Mad Dogs a couple of times during our stay in the area. Esteban our bartender was GREAT. He was engaging, funny and provided us information on the area. We enjoyed our visit we came back a couple of days later just to visit Mad Dogs.

Worth the Price

By Karen M |

We were there during Fiesta and, truthfully, were tired of Mexican food, so we found this Pub and were pleasantly surprised. The menu was very British, but varied enough that most people would find something to eat. The Shepherd's Pie was excellent and came with a choice of beans or peas. The fish with chips was so big, my husband couldn't finish it. Finished plates, etc, were cleared immediately. BUT--above all- we had a FABULOUS server--Chris. He in his kilt, loving his job. He made sure we had everything and if we needed anything, it was there under 2 minutes. The band was so much fun that even the staff had fun with it. Being in an environment, where everyone was encouraged to "let down their hair" and enjoy themselves, is something we haven't seen in this country in 2 years. It was the most fun we've had in awhile and just wish we would've had more people with us. Thank you for the band, allowing the staff to encourage us to join in with the band and for not having only Mexican food!! :)

Family visit to San Antonio.

By Megans |

The service was great, we sat on the patio and it was a little noisy from the restaurant and the live music. Food was great we had the chicken tenders, flat bread, and fries. We had daiquiris both alcoholic and non alcoholic and they were great. We give it a 4 star because the beer on tap wasn’t super cold like it should have been it was lukewarm.

Ask for Ricky!

By Heidi S |

Food was great and our waiter was even better! I definitely recommend. Fun place! Great place to go with friends.

A fun lunch

By kirk v |

The food was really good and my waitress Stacie did an amazing job helping us with everything we needed.

Find somewhere else

By Ygetaway Travel |

Food was gross. Everything was either over cooked or just bland and tasteless. Beer was warm and very overpriced. The staff was inattentive and when absent for a long time. Everything was dirty and few clean tables.

Not the best option on Riverwalk, but not the worse either

By Brian S |

Had supper here, more like a Hooters place with waitresses skimpily clad in British attire I guess, food was just ok. . Scotch eggs was good and caesar side salad was fine Theres a whole host of better restaurants along the walkway however

Very good chicken strips

By Mountainman827 |

Very good chicken strips and greasy fish n chips. Have only had better chicken strips at 1 other place. Sadly their specialty fish and chips were greasy and had a lot of breading. Ate a lot of fish and chips in Ireland this was not near as good. Fun atmosphere good musician and service.

Average

By Hovitez1979 |

This was basically pub grub with lots of fat and salt. The portions were decent. The food was heavy. When the waitress bent over you could see what they had had for breakfast.

noisy dinner

By robertj627 |

Usually enjoy a good pub. Had the Longhorn and ale Pie. The food wasn’t bad , the noise level was deafening, way too loud. They also could use some instruction on how to pour a pint of Guiness. It needs time to settle when poured properly.

Best burger ever!

By Asherboy18 |

My husband & I stopped here during our visit to San Antonio,TX. Mad Dogs British Pub is located on the beautiful River Walk. My husband & I both ordered the Braveheart burger. It was so good - juicy w/candied bacon & fried egg. Best burger I have ever had. Our server Leah was fantastic as well. Great experience!

Great fish and chips

By Arnold S |

We stopped at MadDog's British Pub for dinner. It was quite busy and we were seated near the steps of the Riverwalk. We later requested a better table and ordered the fish and chips. The order of fish wa huge with lightly breaded fish and tasty fries. Some of the best deep fried cod I have ever eaten and a massive amount of meat; almost more than I could eat at one time. The pub also provided music, although the musician crucified the music. However, lucky for us he took a 45 minute break so we could eat our meal without listening to him trash some very good songs. Recommend the food but skip the music if possible.

Worst experience ever! Rude inattentive service

By Ambertea |

My husband (who is English) and I were in San Antonio for the weekend and were wandering around the riverwalk when we decided to stop into Mad Dogs for a quick drink. For those who are expecting something similar to an actual English Pub, it is pretty apparent from the TGIF versions of British tat that they are marketing to a different crowd. That being said we still found it “cute” and thought there would be some decent beers on tap. I will start by saying that we arrived about 3pm on a Sat. afternoon and although they were well staffed there were only about 10 other customers in the bar. We were initially sat outside but then decided we would like to move inside so we could see the decor. I asked a waitress who passed by if she could take us in and I swear it was if it was the greatest inconvenience that had happened in her life. She actually scowled! I should have known better than to stay at that point but the waitress who greeted us was pleasant. She gave us a couple of drink menus but we didn’t see her again for so long that we were starting to leave when she returned. Not wanting to complain as we were trying to have a fun day, we just ordered and let it go. Our order consisted of one tap beer and a cosmo, no food, no intricate drinks, after 15 mins of waiting we left. I watched the bartender at the back chat with a couple the whole time and the bar by the front door had a group of employees congregating at the end. Absolutely worst service I have had in years.

If I could give this a “0” I would

By MidwestTraveler |

Not a good experience. Several patrons in the restaurant had margarita containers from the place down the road. The margarita container had the Mad Dogs logo on it. We decided to go grab a margarita from the place down the road With the Mad dogs logo as they were very good margaritas. We had already ordered food and when we came in with the margaritas from outside, again, which other patrons were drinking, we were asked to leave. My issue with this is twofold. Don’t allow something friends that have outside beverages in your restaurant, and also, don’t put your logo on a container but yet not allow it in your establishment.

Great Fun!

By daggar |

Love this place. From the tables perched on the river walk to the great people who work here, this is the place. It’s definitely a pub, and they seem to always field a crowd having a big time. Food and drinks are a hit. If you are lucky, you will score a table in Ally’s section!

scotch eggs

By TheTexasFoodie |

We enjoyed a second visit and loved our scotch eggs and coconut and curry shrimp salad. We tried and loved a local brew from Fredericksburg....Altstadt….really good beer. This was a great tip from Steven, our server….great food and service.

Great Lunch

By Comfortable |

Friendly staff, we had a group of 6, cold beers good food, really enjoyed it. I would go back. Good burgers, Fish &Chips and Salads

Relaxing by the Riverwalk

By csbyrd18 |

We had a great time at Mad Dogs! This was just a nice place to hang out on the patio overlooking the Riverwalk. Live music on Saturday and we went back and there was karaoke the next day. Sharon was an excellent waitress and took good care of us while we was there. Can’t wait to go back!

Discrimination

By Em C |

We have been there in the past, this time we were visiting with my niece who came for vacation to USA, and while they had many tables outside, when we asked for a table they just guide us at the end of the restaurant, when we asked why we couldn’t seat outside, they didn’t give us any reason, the staff was very rude and ill advice to go somewhere else to spend your money and have fun.

Amazing

By Melissa C |

Esteban & Krystal made my first time in the river walk an amazing time. Best bartender EVER!! Definitely coming back to this place.

Fun Times

By Stephanie |

What a fun atmosphere. The bartenders and wait staff were very friendly, the food was delicious and the drinks were just right. The decor is fun too.

A burger unlike any I've tried before

By ProfitMax Chemical |

The Boozy Bourbon Bacon Burger from Mad Dogs British Pub at the San Antonio River Walk was definitely a burger unlike any I've tried before. Containing 2 patties, loads of bacon, and a fried egg made my taste buds feel an array of textures. The special touch for me to the burger was the bacon jam, which added a sweet and savory touch to it. I recommend eating it with two hands at all times, because it may or may not slip from your grip. Overall, a good experience.

Enjoy a cocktail & live music

By mikesesq |

The drinks were excellent, and the servers friendly at this excellent bar on the River Walk. Pub food is also available. The female manager was particularly helpful in ordering some late night food form a sister bar, and having it delivered! An added bonus was live music in the evening. Really enjoyed this unpretentious place. Highly recommended!

Mad dogs

By Marin |

First time in San Antonio visiting from Idaho. Fish n chips was great! Love the cottage pie. Leslie was our server, was sweet and very attentive will be back to visit soon.

River Walk location

By Kari J |

Fun place on the river with indoor & outdoor seating. They had games on, live music and more. The food was good “I had the burger” drinks were good “margarita” and prices were reasonable for being on the River Walk.

Mediocre Food doesn't trump crap service

By Psteph15 |

I can't even begin to accurately describe the crappy, inattentive service at this establishment. We sat at our table for 13 minutes before anyone even took our drink order. I would be a little forgiving had the place been busy, but it was dead. I even saw another customer who was seated well after us helped before we were. Perhaps it was only our server, Lexy, but it was hands down the worst service I've ever received. It was my hope that the food would be great, and would make me forget about the horrendous service. It wasn't. My fish and chips was mediocre, at best, with french fries that seemed stale, and like everything else about Mad Dogs, left a lot to be desired. Mad Dogs seems to me to be a simple gimic restaurant. Waitresses that are young, and wearing short skirts. Sadly, it's not a gimic capable of overcoming horrible service, and average food. I recommend skipping this place

Riverwalk tour and a drink

By apioantunes |

Whenever in San Antonio for a riverwalk, try this lovely pub ! Inside a very typical engligh pub.Even in a cold weather, you can seat outside ( good heating ). and order a pint of Guinness and a scottish egg! Simply enjoy it and let the time go ! Reasonably priced !

HORRIBLE

By Amy J |

ordered a blt and a side salad. salad was warm, and my sandwich had ONE piece of bacon on it and i was given the heel of the bread loaf for my sandwich. Mentioned it to the waitress who told me it was more of a bar and not a restaurant and did not care at all about our unsatisfaction

Great Fish and Chips

By lilwhite86 |

This place does great Fish and Chips and the Union Jack Margaritas are good too!!! I wouldn’t recommend the Lamb Shank as it was quite Fatty!! My Dad had the bangers and mash he gave it a thumbs up!!! Service and Entertainment 10/10 too!!

Just right

By tshaw34 |

Stopped in after a long day of walking, shopping, sight-seeing. Victoria was bad ass on the spot with every request. Everything delivered on time and managed to hit some great pricing.

Perfect meal and just what we wanted

By HelenP1963 |

Strolled on to the river walk from the Alamo and found this wonderful British pub..... yes we are British. Got the best table overlooking the river walk which was perfect for people watching. Menu had a great choice and we really struggled to decide. I went for fish and chips because they were apparently based on where my family in England live......The fish and batter was super......... one large piece of cod which is very English. They even brought the malt vinegar.......... all it needed was mushy peas to make it perfect but coleslaw was just as good. Hubby ordered steak and ale pie........ WARNING....... this pie had real chunks of steak in it.... puff pastry was light and puffy. He totally loved it. Other items on the menu were very tempting ..... including cottage pie, scotch egg and lamb shank. Service was quick and efficient. Prices very reasonable. Looking inside the pub had lots of English things in it to make it cute! Would certainly come again

Excellent lunch on the riverwalk

By rmksmk |

We stopped in for lunch, looking forward to a corned beef sandwich. The reuben was delicious. My husband and I shared it. Since he doesn’t care for sauerkraut, I asked for it on the side and they easily accommodated my request. Fries came as the side and they were hot and crispy. We each had a Smithwicks draft. Overall a very tasty lunch with a great view of three riverwalk.

Pub Atmosphere with Good Food and Beer

By AmericanKot |

Popular spot on the Riverwalk with British pub atmosphere. Good fish and chips and baked meat pie. Wonderful bread pudding desert. Fast service from cute waitresses. Large selection of beers, but beware of “large beer in souvenir glass.” It is very expensive.

Not impressed - my take-out took an hour with me waiting for it at counter

By Cheryle H |

All I wanted was a desert for some take out. I walked in and was told to order at the bar. I told the person behind the counter what I wanted (Cheesecake) and proceeded to wait for an hour. No kidding, I had to ask 3 times if my order happened then when I would get my order. Really noone seemed to care. Even the 3 guys at the bar asked me what I was waiting for and said "that must be some great cheesecake" I said I have no idea, I just wanted some cheesecake and I was tired of walking all over the riverwalk to find a sweet treat. I am not sure why I just did not walk out. Stuburn I guess. Finally around an hour or more someone shows up with my to go cheesecake. She did not even know I had not paid for it. Probally thaught I was crazy I waited that long. I was honest and asked how much, she ended up giving me a few dollars off, which honeslty should of been more then that off after that wait. Even the guys at the bar said they would of just left with it. I was disappointed anyway. That cheesecake was average and it was not very big. You would think a $10 cheesecake would of at least be impressive. It was just a dissapointment on top of really bad service.

I am a Brit living in the

By Tom B |

I am a Brit living in the USA for 4 years now - this is probably the worst ‘British’ pub I’ve had the misfortune to visit. Burnt scotch eggs (how?) and a $12 glass of red in a tiny glass that was watered down with vinegar... Not impressive, praying on location in a tourist spot!

Thief

By theresa l |

They stole my money. They charged my card more than the receipt (that I signed. My bill was 95.00 they tried charging 109.00 the card was declined. I called the company while at the table and the company said that it was declined because the amount that was requested was more than what was on the card. So, when I questioned it the waitress (Hailey) was adamant that all was charged was 95.00. Then I told her to charge 80.00. She came back with a receipt with 80.00. Someone else used their credit card for the balance. We gave a cash tip. The next day I checked my balance and they charged 92.00 which was not the total I signed for. I tried calling the manager and district manager several times and neither one of them has called me back. So, please be careful when paying with a gift card. They stole 12.00 from me.

Fairly Decent

By kskdmad |

I really wanted to L.O.V.E. this place (lived in London for 3 years, super into British food/beer) and while it was good, it wasn't the complete home-run I was hoping for. Our waiter (Steven) was friendly but sometimes wandered off/got distracted (mostly by the other waitresses). Our food came before the appetizers, we needed to ask someone else for utensils, check was wrong, etc. For the food, order 2 orders of candied bacon when you first sit down. It's amazing. The fish in the fish and chips was excellent, but the chips were not "British" chips...just potato wedges, slightly dry. The bangers and mash were good, though a tiny bit underseasoned. The seats at the edge of the patio give good shade and people watching opportunities overlooking the River Walk.

Brother and I visiting San Antonio

By Glyn B |

My brother and I did some research for a pub in San Antonio and decided to go to this one. It is reminiscent of an British pub, and has a lot of memorabilia around. The waitress and waiters wear kilts, which does seem odd but suspect it is a theme. We visited twice and the second visit wasn't as nice as were given a food menu on arrival but advised about 10 minutes later that there was no food available. Rather annoying. The first visit was excellent and the food was glorious with friendly staff. There is a themed booth dedicated to the RAF which I felt was an excellent addition.

Delicious Dining Along the River

Between the live music, al fresco dining, wonderful service, & delicious food, this place an all around great visit. I would highly recommend a visit!

Super service

By Resort06058604146 |

I write this review because of the service that Brandon gave to me and my wife while we were visiting the San Antonio Riverwalk. We are 78 years old, and were struggling in the heat, Brandon noticed us and offer us a table to relax and have a cool drink. We caught our breathe and moved on after this wonderful act of kindness. Later the evening we went back with the intent of having our dinner. Brandon came out and down the stairs to the walkway remembering us from earlier. I told him that we wanted to have dinner but because my wife is using a walker we could not make it up to eat inside. Brandon said not to worry that he would take us up a a lift that was off in the corner of the building. He, then set our table, with a view of the walk below. What we ordered was delicious. While we ate we observed the other things that Brandon was doing to please the customers. He fixed a wobbling table instantly as the customers continued to have their meal, then spruced up pictures making sure they were well polished. Helped us get back down to ground level. The point is that this lad is a people person, craves helping people, and makes people want to come back to Mad Dog, which has excellent food at reasonable prices and is definitely an enjoyable place to spend time because they do the extra personal step of caring.

San Antonio Anniversary Trip

By Juan |

We stopped by because the staff at the door was so friendly and invited in. We were on a mission to have a little Sunday Funday before leaving back to Houston, TX. Our bartender Esteban was super friendly and laid back he informed us of specials and specialties. He constantly checked on us and I appreciate him sharing his stories with us. We have headed to the market afterward so I asked him for a recommendation on where to get a michelada. His face lit up and he asked us to give his blend a try. I have to recommend his micheladas. They are literally the best I have ever tasted.I recommend any one to visit and create your own memories. Dont forget to ask for Estebans Miche Mix, its the best.

Party time

We had the privilege to visiting Mad Dogs Riverwalk on Thursday February 27, 2020!!! We had so much fun , we decided to visit again on Saturday evening!!! Our servers, Brittany and Ricky kept us entertained and laughing!!! Food and drinks were a bonus as well, as they tasted delicious!!!

Horrible service- good Scotch eggs

By Jilly070 |

Elva was our server and not a very attentive one. My husband and I spent our first night in town on the Riverwalk and stumbled upon this place as we were walking along about 7:45pm. It was a bit chilly out, and they had outdoor seating with big outdoor space heaters, and blankets people had wrapped themselves in. We skipped the blankets that were on the back of the chairs, and were comfortable just being by the space heaters. We sat for a long time with no service, so my husband went inside to the bar to get us a beer. That happened one more time in the meal because we sat dry for awhile and couldn’t find our server anywhere. It was frustrating throughout the meal because we needed additional water and tarter sauce as well, but couldn’t find her. We shared Scottish Eggs (there were 2 cut in half) which were pretty good- and also an order of fish and chips which was not good at all. The fish was so greasy the bottom was dripping in it, so we did our best to pick through it, and the fries were super bland. If it wasn’t for the Scottish Eggs, I would score them with a one star. Not recommended.

Best Karaoke Night!!!

By Whitney Rutz Gutierrez |

Last night was my husband and I's second time ever on the river walk. We were only in town for one night, and walked around looking for a fun bar after dinner. Somewhere that stays opened until 2am. We are SO GLAD we found Mad Dogs! To be honest, we picked it because of the logo - as we have an English bulldog at home. They do karaoke every Monday night with these extremely fun and talented ladies named Kimbo and Ligaya, and to say we had a blast is an understatement. These ladies put on the funnest karaoke show we've ever watched/experienced, and my husband and I both sang a couple songs! It wasn't just your average karaoke; It was like a whole fun and hilarious show. Everyone who stayed late into the night with us ended up all making friends because of Kimbo and Ligaya, we danced and sang the night away. Their margs were $4 which was cool too! Nice staff and waitresses. Bar environment was neat and nice, just what we were looking for. Seriously recommend Monday night karaoke with these ladies at Mad Dogs, you won't regret it!!!! (Kimbo recorded me singing because I made my husband promise not to, but now I'm glad she did for the memories lol).

Great time!

Had an awesome night at Mad Dogs with my friends! Stacie, our server was incredibly nice friendly! Thanks!

Great lunch

By kenm2711 |

It was very hot in San Antonio and I was looking for a cool place that didn't look like a tourist trap on the Riverwalk. They had a great lunch special with a cold beer. The service was very good, as was the food.

Fish and chips

By melissa s |

The food was good English fare with plenty of it. The staff was friendly. Drinks were excellent and the atmosphere was fun.

Good place to grab a bite!

By eatssleepsaway |

Pretty decent place. Server was indifferent but efficient. Food was good, we ordered the Scotch eggs and the fish and chips. The Scotch eggs were a tad over cooked and served with honey mustard dressing, which seemed like an odd sauce for them, they were just ok, 7/10. The fish and chips were excellent 10/10! Very large piece of perfectly battered (dipped?) fish and good fries. One thing that I did not like was the waitress did not give us an itemized bill but just told us what our total was (gave us one after we paid and asked for it). Never had a server in any restaurant do that before. The restaurant charged us $1.27 for using a credit card without even first asking what payment method we were using, which is also not cool. Overall would recommend, and we enjoyed the food.

Very rude staff, expected better!

By The Red Baron |

We were walking along the riverwalk and noticed the menu for this place. My partner is gluten free and so I asked the first person standing at the front was there anything on the menu that was gluten free, he just shrugged his shoulders and called over the two kilted girls (who seemed more preoccupied chatting to each other and stroking their hair). I asked 'hi, do you have anything on the menu that is gluten free please?'...her remark 'we dont do gluten free!', I smiled and said 'I see you have salads, surely they are gluten free?'. To which she flipped! hands on her hips barking and starting insinuating I was being aggressive!! 'we don't do gluten free ok!'. Frankly, we were disgusted and shocked by this outburst and walked off. The staff clearly need better training on a) their menu and b) their general customer service. I feel I have to write this review as I was really disappointing at this outburst, absolutely everyone I have met in San Antonio has been wonderful and to be met with this flare up from a seemingly innocuous request was most unsettling. I do hope she gets better training and can dial back her anger issues, and maybe rethink a job in the service sector.

Maybe next time

By OBH |

A view of the River Walk makes this British Pub stand above most. The appetizer of pork cracklings with dipping sauce is a must have. We shared the fish and chips (priced at about $20) was not spectacular. The fries were average at best and although the fried cod was plentiful, it lacked flavor and heat. The flesh of the fish was somewhat flakey and the skin wasn’t fried crisp enough. The service was just okay, not exceptional and not poor.

What a fantastic night

By jssc21 |

We went for dinner which was really good and stayed for the karaoke with kimbo and ligaya. We are not really into karaokes but this pair of ladies are absolute amazing. The full night was fantastic and we laughed the full time. Their voices are brilliant but it’s the natural banter between was superb We would recommend to anyone to go and see them it’s more than worth your while, Well done

Nice Cold Beer!

By drummerhill |

Tried Mad Dog’s British Pub for dinner. Very friendly staff. Food is was a little disappointing (shrimp tacos with very few shrimp & the rueben with lots of sauerkraut and little meat). Busy fun place with live music.

Great place and friendly staff!

By Adam S |

I really enjoyed my short visit at this bar. They were very nice and made me feel at home despite Covid. Great music and cool atmosphere on the river. Highly recommend!

Greasy and overrated ....

By 891travelling891 |

To go service: Fish and chips were expensive, overrated with mostly crunchy greasy batter! Drink was ridiculously overpriced. Bar servers are not friendly and does not give you the time of the day - a simple request for an extra plate took forever!!!!

Nicole

By Alyssa C |

Nicole the bartender was very friendly and told me about the lunch special. Tried the fish and chips and it’s delicious. A lot of food for $15 and the Union margarita is amazing!!!

Very nice pub, Welcoming to the top, we had a great lunch for 56 bucks at 2, little extra , small concert during the meal , I recommend

Great food and service!

By tikafaith |

While everywhere seemed to be packed, we were able to get in to mad dogs right away. I looked at reviews and saw some recent negative ones. I will tell you that our service was outstanding, and to my knowledge there was only one waitress that we saw on staff. She was fantastic. I didn’t catch her name but she was there on a Monday (3/22/21) around noon. She deserves a high five. Food was quick and great. Hubs liked the fish n chips and I had the cottage pie. Will return!!

Bad Atmosphere - rude staff member - average or below food quality

By Lin |

I had a great server Sean, polite and attentive. Food was average at best. One of the other servers approached the table and started tried to move the umbrella we had shielding the sun to her table to attract guest to sit in her section and the table was empty! She was quite rude! After stopping her, she left the umbrella 4 feet away from the table and left. The kind gentlemen in the next table, came over and pulled it back to cover our table. The uniform skirts for one or two of the employees were way too small and unpleasant showing too much of their behind with heavier set bodies making it a distasteful environment. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere!

This a nice Piano Bar with informal British food

By Julio L |

Nice place to hace fun or informal dinner with friends while listening Piano requests. There are several beer brands and good fish chips.

Best dog friendly bar I’ve been in a long time

By Chris Knipping |

Staff was fantastic to us and my dogs. We had so much fun hanging out. The food was good, service great, atmosphere top notch great place to celebrate Xmas

Simply Amazing!

By Benjamin H |

While looking for a restaurant on the Riverwalk that didn't have an insanely long wait, we stumbled across this Pub and decided to try it out. We were very surprised by the quality of the food/drinks and the atmosphere was electric! We started with the Spinach and Artichoke dip as an appetizer and were not disappointed. My girlfriend tried the Bangers and Mash entree and they are to die for! I chose a Texas burger (exact name is eluding me) that had chili on it and it was also delicious! We tried several drinks - Old Fashioned, Apple Mule, a few beers, but the highlight of the drink selection we tried was the Cucumber Martini. Absolutely amazing! We went on a Friday night and they also had live music with a couple guys doing cover songs and performing them very well. All in all, I would definitely recommend Mad Dogs to anyone I know visiting San Antonio!

Love the place

By Travis |

Very friendly staff and the drinks were all good we received. Loved that you could smoke outside patio. We went back everyday for good drinks

So many other better places

By Joel F |

The only time I have been on the river walk and felt ignored and not taken care of when I sat down to eat down here. When questioned why I was over charged for a kids drink and fries they blamed me when right on the menu it said it was included. Never got refills on beverages til after we were done eating. Will not go back so many other places with better customer service and better food.

Wonderful waitress, Fun music, Very Happy Hour

By sjd28562 |

Our server, Jessica, is a not only a fantastic waitress, but such a wonderful person. We went back twice were were lucky enough to get her table again. Hard worker and dedicated to her job. The happy hour was great, we had a perfect location next to our hotel, the small jazz ensemble was perfect...And The $5 margaritas are delicious, after walking the Riverwalk on a hot day!

Great service. Dedication to customers

By Debra S |

We enjoyed a very happy fourth if July at Mad Dogs. Jade was our server a such a joy to have as we had bad experiences on the river wal earlier in the week. Jade was so attentive and personable that wevayayed for hours. This was the best experience we had on our trip so far. Thank you for supporting Jade on her on her profession and future goals.

We had a great time, great beer, and service, I would recommend it if you’re in the area! Myriah was a great server too!

River Walk Bar and Restaurant

By Ramon Torres |

After River Walk ride, looking for a different place, we found it. Lot of TV for see games, Waiter so nice, but in the Reception, an Angry guy! In a bad mood call the Waitress, speaking loud. But we had a good time, cold beers, Nice Burgers, Chicken wings and more! Just put this guy in the Kitchen, Mad Dogs was the best!

Bad service and water down super expensive drinks

By Mr and Mrs LDG |

Good to be there if you have a lot of patience and/or time to be served. When you are finally served be prepared to have one of the most water down expensive drinks of your life. I do not recommend this place.

Don't get Guinness

The worst pour of Guinness I ever saw. Stop with the straight pour and in my hands within 30 seconds!!!

🤩🤩

By Connie D |

Came to San Antonio for an anniversary trip and ended up getting a table after hearing a band playing here from across the Riverwalk. We have not had this great of a night out in….. maybe EVER. From the lady and guy outside checking ID’s, to our waitress (Clarissa), to the food, to the band, to one of the guys behind the bar to the karaoke/entertainment QUEENS Ms Kimbo and her BFF!!!!! It was legit perfect! They were busy with Fiesta yet still served up top notch, quick, friendly service. We are from Louisiana but felt like a regular here on our first visit with how welcoming and friendly everyone was. I had the CHEF’S CHIPS OF THE DAY which were the Bangers. Oh👏🏼My👏🏼Gawd👏🏼🤤. Fries with delicious brown gravy, caramelized onions and sausage. It was literally still good cold later on.

Unique for Texas

By Depplep |

We love anything British so we stopped in for a few beers. Nice pub atmosphere and great view of River Walk. We only had beers so can't comment on the food. Service slow, but all service on River Walk is slow. My favorite thing about this bar is they play a lot of Rolling Stones and momstly the older songs.

Ripoffs/scams

By Jacob L |

Beware! Ordered two 12 ounce mango margaritas at $10 each… got a bill for $50! When asked the waiter about this, they told me that the plastic glasses that came with the drinks were $10 each… that price wasn’t on the menu and I never asked for that either…. This place is a rip off and they will scam you blind.. I will never visit this place again.

Tacos and Margaritas Crawl

By Pauline H |

Registered for this event, and, NOT what I expected at all, as the starting point. There was ONE stall available in the women's restroom, the majority of the Q codes didn't work, and apparently, if you weren't there AT 2, you didn't get to make tacos, instead, at each bar, you purchase it. Had fun, but quite disappointed in the lack of details and software issues

Ally Rocks

By Keith M |

Fabulous service. Our waitress Ally was super friendly and attentive Great place for sports and only place on river to enjoy a smoke

Ridiculous door policy

By Scroby99 |

Couldn’t actually get through the door. It’s a Monday night, it’s quiet. They have a ridiculous door policy where they ID everyone. The only bar on the San Antonio Riverwalk that ID’s everyone. I am 60 next year, my wife is 56….yet, they still want ID. So, we went in the bar next door, nice jazz band on (the bar/restaurant is called ‘on the bend). Here they serve people, maybe they like the custom ..the money that comes with serving people. From here, we can see the ridiculousness and randomness of ‘The Mad dog’. Guess What, they don’t ID everyone, just some. When the doorman feels like it.

Bar food?

By Thomas |

My lady said don’t eat at a bar but I talked her into it. What a mistake. The nachos were yucky. The Mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes were cold. The shrimp was veiny. Drinks were fine. My mistake to try and eat there. Manager was nice and credit most of our bill.

So Amazing and had the best waitress ever!

By Mikey Erin |

My fiancé and I went there and had the best time. Our waitress was Stacy and she was absolutely amazing we will definitely go back just to see her she ya the beeesssttttt! Ask for Stacy when you go!

Great Service Beautiful Servers!

By Layla |

Finally got around to writing a review. Heard about the fun that is had here on Friday nights, my husband and I decided to get drinks and an appetizer for the fun our server Monique was very friendly, beautiful soul, very attentive, and helped us out a bunch with her recommendation on scotch eggs. Which is defiantly a must. Ask for Monique when you visit you won’t be disappointed. Overall drinks were amazing food was Amazing will defiantly be visiting again.

Felt like I was in London

By Sperryman587 |

First time eating at this establishment or any pub type atmosphere. Service was pretty good, food came out quick. We sat along the Riverwalk and had a great view! I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. Only comes with one fish, but it was HUGE! The chips portion were very minimal for the size of the plate. Hubby ordered a Ruben and it was slightly disappointing in comparison to others he’s had. He said it was a good sandwich, but not a good Ruben. It lacked in authentic Ruben flavor, meat, & sauerkraut. The girls had a cheese pizza the dough was soft and the cheese was good! Cool little spot, would come back. Decor was nice!

Good

By dfb260 |

Excellent fish and chips. Indoor and outdoor dining available. Good service. Lots of options, if you want alcoholic drinks. Use caution on the steps everywhere in this area!

Looking for something other than Tex-Mex

By Hernando E |

The restaurant is conveniently located on the San Antonio Riverwalk. They have a friendly and energetic employee whose role appears to be attracting customers. The outdoor seating is a floor above the river itself, which was nice. The server was reasonably friendly and attentive (though less so than the employee at the restaurant's entrance). The food was good; the portion sizes and prices were about what we expected for the area. Overall a good experience.

Mad Dog Sports Pub

By Jason D |

Sad because this place has a lot of potential. Starts with management. Just walked in to see if Monday night game was on with all blackout issues depending on provider. Jeremy looks at me and points and says what does it look like. I’m getting it up. Several of the servers were great and they weren’t short on staff but clearly no organization. Several girls running around and no direction. Five different people to our table in five minutes. We be says the thing I want to order isn’t available. Next says it is. Then comes back and apologizes said no it’s not. Not their fault just poor communication. Food was solid across the board like 7/10. Ambiance good for sports bar. Out of multiple items on the menu. Out of about 18-24 beers on tap literally over 50% were out and not available.

Great British pub in Texas

By 2911carl |

Saw this pub whilst walking around the riverside, called in for a quick pint which ended up being 4 pints, really cant fault this bar, great service, great band and lovely atmosphere

Terrible Place

By Andrew H |

Went and sat down for Karaoke, the drunk DJ instantly started making fun of us and calling my wife a Karen, then started dropping the F bomb every few words. Not a great way to treat new customers, will never come back and I will tell anyone I know coming to the Riverwalk to stay away.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME

By jeannie_bear1 |

Mad Dogs was by far the WORST place I have ever eaten in my entire life. Went to watch Sunday night football when on vacation and since they are a “British Pub”, ordered the fish & chips, my husband ordered the Der Texener. Both meals were disgusting! We were starving and still could not eat even one third of our meals. Not to mention, they were out of Michelob Ultra bottles and their 12 oz draft beers were $7 each and warm. What little bit of food we were able to eat made me immediately so sick we had to go back to our hotel for the night. With so many places to dine on the Riverwalk, do not eat here! We are not people that complain, but this food was so bad and so pricey, I feel obligated to warn others. Our night was ruined because the food was that bad. I’m in bed feeling nauseous as I write this.

Great Setting...Bad Food Experience and Service

By wetravelalot007 |

We were wanting one last great experience on the Riverwalk before we departed San Antonio on a Sunday afternoon. We found this place as we walked the Riverwalk one last time. It was open as we were there just before noon. We spoke with the greeter and she told us to sit anywhere we liked. We sat down right alongside the river at a table with a familiar but amazing view. This place offers atmosphere plus. Our server was slow to respond to our seating but we had an amazing view so no worries. Unfortuantely our service remained slow and unresponsive throughout our visit here. Our food was unfortunate as well. We ordered the Margarita flatbread and the "World Famous Fish and Chips". The flatbread was decent not memorable but not an awful offering. The 'World Famous Fish and Chips" were anything but worthy of its title. It seemed as thought the fry cook was having a bad day. Our ordered arrived with brown fries and a fish fillet that had the consistency of jerky. Both were way over cooked. We would have given them a chance to rectify this poor offering but our server did not come back to check on us. Needless to say we were not impressed by the food offerings. Our ratings for this place would be as follows: Food 2 stars (more for the flatbread bringing up the fish and chips) Service 2 stars (not attentive) Atmosphere 5 stars (you cannot beat the theme setting or the riverwalk surroundings) Renown 3 stars Value 3 stars (this is tought to grade, great atmosphere but bad food) Romantic Appeal 4 stars (again tough to rate love the atmosphere but not the food) Average stars 3.2 This would be a great place to have a drink. Who knows if we would have had a different fry cook and server we very well could be rating it differently. You cannot beat the setting but we would not try the food here again.

They Lost My Leftovers From Another Restaurant

By Julian R |

As I walked into the restaurant on 12/31 11pm the guy in the front made me keep my leftovers from another restaurant in the front stool in the river part of the restaurant. When it was time to leave my leftovers were gone. Don’t make me leave my leftovers if you can’t keep it safe. The rude guy in the front didn’t even apologize for losing our bag with leftover food from another restaurant. The guy didn’t even apologize when he was the one who made us leave the food.

Tuesday night at the Mad Dogs

By Happiness761767 |

The steak @ ale pie was good- but not much food for $18.00 At best there was 1/2 c of stew inside the pastry puff. Jade did a good job. Our hostess was pleasant- but she needed a bit more fabric to her uniform- if she had bent over- we would have seen it all-and needed to pull up her shirt.

Stopped for drinks and snack

By 12345MN |

Ordered Jameson and Gingers and scotch eggs. The drinks were served in short glasses at $9 apiece. Tasty but a couple of sips and we were out. We always compare scotch eggs to Brit’s in Minneapolis, and these didn’t equal. Outside sausage was too crispy and tasteless. Service by Steve was excellent and energetic. Nice view of the Riverwalk from our outside table. The live music was very good - just the right amount of background entertainment.

Not that English/Scottish

By William S |

Stopped in for lunch with my wife - we both grew up in England so were curious to taste some good regional English dishes. We sat at the bar, looked over the menu and found only a couple of entrees with English names but what were really nothing very authentic. We bought 1 round offrinks, tried a few appetizers and left (full menu not available because of a kitchen fire which was not mentioned on the write ups we read before going there). Prices appeared above average for the fare.

Loved the fish and chips

By Ed B |

This is my first visit here and I loved it. I went with a friend and we shared the artichoke spinach dip that was good. He ordered the Cobb salad and I got the fish and chips. I would highly recommend the fish and chips. We got the Irish coffee cheesecake for dessert and it was excellent. Service was extremely friendly and took great care of us. Luckily we came on a Monday night around 645 so it wasn’t very crowded. On a crowded weekend this place would probably have a long wait list. When we went there were even some empty tables. So go mid week if you don’t like to wait.

Nice British pub but a bit pricey.

By Justin F |

Wife and I decided to stop here while on the River walk. The scotch eggs were delicious and I am a fan of fish & chips so wanted to try theirs. I was a bit disheartened with it as it’s one large piece of fish and the breading was too thick for my liking. Overall we’d go back and try some other dishes and get the scotch eggs again!

Must Visit

By KendraA |

I'm a travel agent and I would definitely recommend this place to my clients. The food is excellent and we had wonderful service. Our server Ricky was very attentive and lots of fun. If you want a fun environment to relax this is the spot.

Good Eats

By Helen C |

My husband had lamb shank for the first time and said it was delicious. They are also known for fish and chips and that is what I got. Did not disappoint. Was very good! The place was crowded on Saturday night, but the service and food coming out was fast. Will revisit again.

Enough shopping already, lets sit, eat, and drink.... so we did!

By bjlinWI |

Spent most of the day visiting shops and pubs on the "Riverwalk". We needed to sit get a light meal and some drinks. Well we got that plus live music! All was very good. Nice atmosphere, we sat outside. We had the Artichoke Spinach dip and the Dogs Bollocks Nachos plus a couple of Hopadillo pints. A good time by all

Poor staff! People did not

By Jochen L |

Poor staff! People did not let us in becse we seemed drunk! They missed to have the ambassador and his wife + friends in there and felt cool about it :-) funny but stupid staff !

Great bar!

By Vork Travel |

We only got drinks here, but the service was really good. They also had live music which we really enjoy. I liked the vibe here, and their bathrooms were the cleanest on the river walk that we experienced.

Real Fish and Chips

By vaughanm1976 |

Stopped in for lunch while in town on business. Great outdoor seating where I could watch the River Walk. Great service. Had the fish and chips and they were the most authentic to the real UK experience I have had in the U.S.

Drinks were great - food so/so

By Kathi W |

We came for a late night drink and decided to eat as well. The BLT was average. the veggie flatbread was pretty good.

Nice spot along Riverwalk

By lounx801 |

Nice place to stop in for a bite to eat along the Riverwalk. Irish themed Restaurant complete with "Kilted" servers. Food was served quickly and hot. Nothing really exceptional as to quality but was tasty and the beer was cold.\!

Vegan Steak & Ale Pie

By Alan O |

Absolutely ridiculous....advertised as 'Chunks".of steak...mine ...not one chunk, or scrap of steak...just veg in a beef gravy...when I brought it to the servers attention, Mangers response (who didnt have the courtesy to cone by)..was .."That's it, it's a lucky draw".. said she would take it off the bull, but came back with a non itemized bill for $44. Bucks for 2 drinks...ya...and actually table was dirty, staff were distracted...junk in total...lots of really good restaurants on the river walk avoid this one!!

horrible

By Jeff B |

We arrived at Mad Dogs shortly after they opened. We were seated immediately and our drink order taken. Ten minutes later we received our drinks and our order was taken. Twenty minutes later the server came back to tell us that they were out of fish for a fish sandwich. Mind you we were some of the first customers of the day. The server did not offer any options or a menu for the person to find another option. They did remember a Rueben sandwich and ordered it. Half an hour later the food was brought out and my hamburger resembled a hockey puck on a black burnt bun. Two other sandwiches were served on equally burnt bread and the fourth was the Rueben. It was the only edible meal of four. We asked for the manager and his response was ambivalent. Fortunately we were only asked to pay for the one meal eaten. We will never be back.

They are a rip-off, very tourist trap type of place.

By The Law Man |

Other Irish pubs and British pubs with more reasonable pricing and very good food selection that is more authentic . Strongly suggest you try somewhere else.

Fun Spot

By Selmman |

I went with my friends to have a good time and watch the game. I was really fun and our server Sharon was on point with the service.

World famous fish and chips

By Tyson C |

We had the world famous fish and chips and the margarita flat bread. Both were ok. The spot is perfect for the garden walk. Plenty of drunks fools around and live music when we were there. Drinks are reasonable.

Great fun place on the river walk. Great beers and mixed drinks, great food and atmosphere, the waitress was friendly and even the cook came out and gave our little dog a piece of bacon. I always go here when I am in SA.

Nice place in the Riverwalk

Decent pub on the Riverwalk…wish they would have had a larger selection of draft. The guys wear kilts. Friendly staff, great location.

simply o.k.

We were on the River Walk and saw that Mad Dog's had Karaoke. We asked the host how often they had Karaoke and he said every night at nine, so we told him we'd be back the text night (Thursday). Thursday night about 10pm we head down there and no Karaoke, they had a live band. :( But we did stay. The band was good. Had some drinks and food, both were good. Service was o.k. a little absent minded. Didn't love the waitresses' uniforms. I haven't been to many pubs in England but the couple I have been too, the waitresses didn't dress like Hooters wannabes. (Which is what I would call the uniforms at Mad Dogs.) Overall - o.k.

Do not come here. The most ridiculous experience of my adult life.

By Amy C |

This is the most absurd thing I have ever experienced at a bar in my entire life. I was in town visiting this bar from New Orleans with my husband and our best friend. We were at establishment for over 2 hours and ordered food and alcohol. We were asked to close out our initial tab because our server was closing out and a new server stepped in. With our new server we placed our second round of drinks and the server told us our friend was “cut off because security said he looked drunk”. We had been quietly sitting at our table, drinking, eating and catching up. We asked the server to close us out and I asked to speak with the manager, as I was very confused by the accusation. The manager, Eva, came over and said “you’re allowed to stay but your friend is cut off”. I asked why, as we had simply been sitting and chatting. She said “his eyes are glossy”. I clarified with her that someone who had not previously interacted with us on any level at all was able to make a judgment call on someone’s level of intoxication and she “yes”. My husband, who had more to drink than anyone else at the table, and admitted that information to the server and manager was totally disregarded. Again, I’m from New Orleans. I have no problem taking ownership in regards to my drinking or behavior. We are three adults, at a table, eating drinking and chatting, who paid our first tab with a 30% tip and were accused of something that is absolutely the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard from someones mouth in my entire life. We love San Antonio as a weekend getaway and I will never step foot in this establishment ever again. I have never been this insulted in my entire life (I’ve literally traveled the entire world. This statement is just for reference).

Efficient friendly service

The staff were great, location too. Enjoyed a cold beer and a sandwich whilst watching the world go by. Very efficient staff. They were very helpful

Service was good. But amenities bad.

We was watching TV in the sports bar area and the manager switched channels without consulting patrons. Two TVs side by side with same.

RUDE Service. Horrible food!

By LeAnn N |

We had the rudest servicer I have ever had in my life. There were six adults in our party. One of us is legally deaf (cochlear implant so visible for server to see and know). This particular person motioned to the server that he was legally deaf and that his wife would be interpreting for him. The server continued to try to talk to this man and then upon returning to our table had the audacity to call this gentleman "the grumpy one". This server proceeded to tell us that he had been told once that he was similar to wait staff at Dick's Last Resort. If you have never been, it is a night club where the wait staff is paid to be flippant and a little on the rude side. If we were in the mood and had wanted that, we would have gone there. But we didn't! So don't brag that you are rude when you're being paid to be helpful and kind. As if this wasn't enough, he forgot to bring one person's drink and another person's meal. And the food was anywhere from average to terrible. The Chicken Bacon Swiss in particular was awful. The chicken was so tough and dry it could not even be cut with the table knife.

Fantastic service!

Lorelei went above and beyond to make me feel welcome, comfortable and full of beer and food. I was never left wondering where she was, always stopped by my table. Very genuine and her smile is contagious :)

Spent two days in Mad Dogs

By Tracey H |

Great place for beer, good food and a great cheer! Place was clean and tidy like we remembered it back in 2017! As we were visiting the RW thought we would revisit some old haunts. The only one that stood out from the crowd was Mad Dogs! Excellent and had to come back again whilst in SA. Thank you for the great beer, food and wonderful hospitality - back to the UK we go. Cheerio and see you again.

Ally is awesome!!

By Dvporter |

We actually come downtown quite a lot, usually the servers just don’t care. Ally has a ton of personality is interested in us and all-around awesome! Love MadDogs and we will definitely come back again and ask for Ally!

Cute British themed pub

Went for lunch. Were promptly seated and drink orders taken. The food and service were good although I felt the prices a little high.

Beware of angry Bartenders

By Benjamin M |

After an initially disappointing lunch, my wife and I decided to give this place another chance for late night drinks but we shocked at how poorly we were treated. The 19 year old bartender charged my credit card twice and proceed to assault me by throwing a pen at my face when I called her out on it. Long story short, we ended up calling the police because several of the patrons then followed us outside and threatened us. This place is not safe. Avoid if at all possible.

Subpar pub food

Not great. Overly oily fries. Chicken tenders tasted like fish. Had better fish before. Overall not worth the price. Would not recommend.

Lots of better choices

We were seated immediately at a table that was not big enough to hold our food. Our server was training another server, but not sure our server had been trained. We ordered an appetizer expecting it to come out before our meal, all food arrived at the same time. When we were finished, they never cleared any of the dishes. It just was not a great experience. I could go on, but this is probably enough.

Very good fish

By Heather K |

I ate here for a late lunch with my family on the Riverwalk. 3 out of the four had the fish and chips and my grandmother had the fish sandwich. Every meal was absolutely huge. I thought it was a bit pricey when looking at the menu but then when we got the food I realized the price was good for the portion size. The food is very good. I would return here if I wanted fish and chips in San Antonio. The staff were great as well.
