Located in the Gramercy Hotel, this is a happening destination. We were a party of six and all enjoyed their meals immensely. The salads were most delicious and the grilled chicken was probably the best I ever had in all of New York city my only comment is that the service was unacceptably slow. It's took us over 2 1/2 hours to complete our meal. The waiter was not attentive . This could be a result of the restaurants policy which includes the tip in the price of the meal. This is a non-tipping restaurant and even the coach check person would not accept A gratuity. My highest compliment, we will return for dinner.

I’m a big Danny Myers fan and find this restaurant to be an Oasis in the city. It’s low key vibe is welcome for buinsss gatherings and getting together with friends. Its also comfortable for the solo Traveller. I find the food to be delicious- breakfast through dinner. In addition to guests staying at Gramercy Park Hotel you sense people from the neighborhood coming in for a coffee or Happy Hour. Not many hotel bars have a Happy Hour and this is a nice way to entertain without breaking the bank.

The last time we were in NYC we ate here and loved this restaurant so we decided to return. We made sure to make reservations and were seated immediately. The staff were welcoming and the decor still looked just as nice as the last time we were there a few years ago. Everything we ordered was delicious. We look forward to the next time.

Went here to have dinner with friends who live in the city. Ambiance is really nice, service was great. Food was good although all our pasta’s were very al dente, next time I would ask them to cook it a bit longer. I was positively surprised by the price. My friend told me they incorporate tip in the pricing and being european myself (tipping only in relation to service) that was nice.

Was excited to try another USHG restaurant on our visit to NYC. Our reservation was at their "wine bar" which I would not do again. Not an interesting vantage point and did not add to the dining experience. The evening was spent watching the wine staff open and decant and pour very generous tastes of each wine for themselves to drink and they had no interaction with the customers seated at the wine bar but they had a lot of interaction amongst themselves. Our waiter was actually very new and he gets an A for effort, but it was obvious he had not had much training yet. Our food was quite good. We had two salads, two pastas and a special entree. A classic example of why included gratuity can work to a disadvantage...as a customer you expect very good service and when the experience falls short it leaves a bad taste in your mouth despite the food being good.

I loved this place. Came on the recommendation of a friend for the cinnamon rolls (which were very good—fluffy, glazed perfection, but ultimately not very unique unfortunately). Had the cotechino (house-made sausage, fried egg, biscuit), and it was superb. Everything was made just right and with just the perfect flavor profile all together. Surprisingly, the side salad that came with the brunch was to die for, and it was so simple! They make a great almond milk cappuccino. I appreciate that they had milk alternatives, which you can’t always get at restaurants. Additionally, the service was impeccable. The waiter was attentive but not pushy, and always magically appeared when needed. I’d also like to add that I think this was a great place to dine alone, as they have a few good alcoves, high tops, and a good amount of bar space. Didn’t feel weird at all, and living in NYC I’m always on the hunt for a solid solo spot. I would 100% return.

It is rare that I use the word “flawless” when it comes to a visit to a restaurant. Our meal at Maialino was flawless, perfect, outstanding and every other superlative you can imagine, from the minute we arrived until we departed almost three hours later. Immediately upon seating, the server approached and asked if we wanted water and offered the food and drink menus. We ordered a couple of orders of the Prosciutto e Mozzarella for the table, which included several slices of prosciutto and a half-ball of buffalo mozzarella. The sliced meat was soft and delicious with just a hint of saltiness and the cheese was almost burrata in texture with a soft crust and creamy interior. We followed the first shared dish with the Insalata, mixed greens, anchovies, pecorino cheese and topped with breadcrumb s ($18). This was fantastic, perfectly dressed with fresh flavors and the crunch of the breadcrumbs was a nice added feature. The server described the special and it was right up my alley. It was 28-Day dry aged duck breast atop chicken and duck liver mousse, blueberries and rhubarb. It was incredible. The duck breast was served medium, with a deep rich flavor, complemented by the richness of the mousse and lighted by the blueberries. I really liked this dish. My wife ordered the Pollo alla Diavola, a half of a chicken, bathed in a vinegary sauce of black pepper and pickled chili. The chicken was perfect, moist inside with perfect skin from a large weight that kept the chicken fully engaged on the flat-top. This is one of the best dishes and one of the best chickens I have ever eaten. For dessert we enjoyed the Assorted Cookies, while I was able to sneak a few bites of the Tiramisu. The latter was absolutely delicious, with perfect balance of the ingredients. Overall, our meal at Maialino was flawless, perfect in every aspect of the dining experience.

Attracted to this restaurant because of dinner menu, but came for brunch instead. If you are not a meat-eater and/or don’t want to gorge on bread or pastries, stay away. I picked poached eggs with sunchokes and butternut squash. This came with a “side”, but they were either meat or something that didn’t go with what I’d chosen. I asked if I could have the ricotta bruschetta (same price as the offered side), but the kitchen refused. Very high prices for lack of accommodation, such as is routinely found in Boulud restaurants. Think we’ll just stick with those in the future.

Spent an entirely seamless evening with my wife enjoying the wine, delicious Arctic Char and deserts. The staff was overly attentive, the service excellent and the ambience warm and inviting.Did I mention a great crowd as well.

Really enjoyed our dinner here with colleagues. While the service was a little slow it was made better by good conversation and really high quality food.

When we are in New York we always stop at Maialino. We are Italians, lovers of Roman cuisine. Here you can find good quality dishes, from appetizers to pasta, meat and cheese. The place is nice even if a little noisy. Prices maybe a bit too high. However recommended.

Danny Meyer's restaurants typically get heaped praise sometimes when the reality doesn't match the hype, but this was not the case at Maialino, where the authenticity, knowledge, service and quality were tops. While we are food industry types, the staff did not know this and the attention to detail, gracious hospitality and excellent food and beverage were enviable. I have spent more in this town and got far less. Also the view of Gramercy Park from the windows, especially with the cherry blossoms, was stellar.

I visited this restaurant before going to the opera. We wanted a table from the fine dining section - they were all untaken. The restaurant insisted, that it is not possible to get a table, because they are fully booked. What a scam - all tables were empty; instead of offering us a fine dining table for a limited time, they insisted to sit us at a regular table - of course still fine but not what we wanted. That was very unprofessional for a restaurant in that quality and happens only if you have unqualified and young personal, that are there just to be cool instead of serving the customer. We accepted the table and the food, and were suprised of the quality of the food - unfortunately the food was cold too; but the taste was of a quality I have not had before - we ate a duck filet and a chicken; both were just great. So to sum it up: just the food - it receives 5 out of 5, the lady at the desk assigning the table 0 out of 5 for being rude and not understanding. The service 5 out of 5. If they fix their service problems, a must place to go!

I went here with my family . We were a big group . In order to order a la carte we reserved 2 tables under a different name . The food was unique and excellent . I order pasta amatriciana everywhere in the world I go . It wasn't on the lunch menu but was available upon request. Maialino's amatriciana was delicious . I also ordered the suckling pig pasta which was again excellent . I tried the Cacio y Pepe , twas okay.

Of course, the iconic GP Hotel is the perfect location for this restaurant. The menu was extensive and my pasta alla Gricia and redfish were absolutely amazing! The wine list was also one of the most extensive I've ever seen---to the point that I have printed it out and will be using as my own checklist. The atmosphere was perfect for a gathering with friends and I know that I will dine here again.

We dined at Maialino with friends and really enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent and the service was spot on.

We really loved this restaurant , for a romantic lunch with my wife. Views of Gramercy Park. Staff with knowledge and very friendly. Relaxing environment. Food is superb. We will return.

We tried this place because we love gramercy tavern but had our 10 month old baby with us- so needed something more casual. Bread and olive oil were excellent. Coffee is wonderful. Pastas good but a tiny bit salty (and I love salt). Staff was very accommodating to our baby!

Went for dinner on a Friday night, sat in the front room. Extremely noisy. Service was terrible. After the waitress took our order we had to track her down an hour later to ask about our dinner. Overpriced entrees weren't delivered as described. Salad was soggy. Pastas bland. Save your money!

Fantastic restaurant which is part of the Gramercy Park Hotel. The atmosphere is perfect and the food was on the money. We started with some local cured meats and cheeses which were a great mix. The recommendations from the waiter were excellent. We tried the Maialino al Forno which would be an ideal table dish. The pastas, meats and chocolate Sunday dessert were lovely. The sommeliers are very knowledgeable and will ensure you have wines to compliment your meals. We will be back next time we are in Manhattan. If you aren’t dining out with your kids the bar next doors looks great for late night drinks.

We were looking for an Italian place to have dinner and we've found Maialino, the attendance is excellent and the food just perfect, it worth the price.

I was in Manhattan for work and we chose Maialino for dinner with colleagues. The restaurant was packed with a really buzzy New York atmosphere - loud! Our waiter was very attentive and I had a couple of glasses of rose which were delicious. I ordered the Bucatini all’Amatriciana which was labelled as spicy. However it was far too spicy for me!! It’s a shame as it ruined the taste, but as they did clearly highlight the spice, I didn’t complain. If I go back, I’ll have something more bland!

Was so wanting to like this place, based upon the Danny Meyer imprimatur, but I found that the name alone did not raise the standard of the brunch we had here. The Good: Friendly, pleasant service. Cute place, but noisy. Convenient walk from the oh-so-private Gramercy Park environs. The Bad: Lukewarm scrambled eggs( the special!), specious omelette that may have been microwaved - something I suspected at the Danny Meyer sibling at the Union Square Cafe - and not all that great anyway. Small portions, no bread, coffee extra. The Ugly: Well, nothing, really. However, Danny Meyer should not rest on his laurels and check his kitchens more frequently. For the $80.00 for two brunch, mimosas extra, it does not deliver. The Rest: manager comped a Mimosa to make up for lukewarm eggs - still, not enough to warrant a return from the fussy foodies that we are:) I will say, the Modern at MOMA DOES deliver, and I will check out the food there again, just to restore my faith in Danny..

we ate here for brunch and dinner and would absolutely come back. It is a hidden gem in the city. Tips are priced in, which is nice, and there is plenty of great options on the menu for everyone.

Incredible dinner with superb food. The cheese plate was a great starter to enjjoy with wonderful flavors. My husband had suckling pig and potatoes. I cannot even describe it other than spectacular. Also it was a huge portion. I had the buccatini and it was a perfect portion size and delicious. Too full to have any dessert though. It is on the expensive end but gratuity is built into the price so you do not have to add tip which I like and the service is outstanding.

The lunch we had here today was not up to expectations. The food was good, but certainly not great. The salumi appetizer and caprese salad were nothing to get excited about. The fettuccini bolognese was quite good, but not worth $36. Black bass was good, but not nearly as good as the black bass I had earlier in the week at Gramercy Tavern. The service was inattentive and the waiter seemed to have trouble answering my questions about menu items. It was expensive and certainly not worth the money. I won't be back.

the place is nice and the food is OK. to say the truth, a little below our expectations. for example, we ordered carbonara pasta which ended up to be cacao e peppe pasta, with too much pepper that the taste was only pepper. A special thanks to the somelier that advises you properly about italian wines. The service is good, but not great. good to go, but needs improvement to stay at a good level of quality/service such as the Gramercy Park Hotel.

We had a family brunch at Maialino. If you're expecting a "normal" brunch menu, you're going to be disappointed. There are no omelets, French toast, or waffles, and the only pancakes are made with ricotta cheese. The egg dishes are soft scrambled, so if you don't like it loose you better let them know. We had a variety of dishes, and no one was raving. Beware of the calorie-laden ricotta pancakes: you probably won't feel like eating the rest of the day. It's also rather expensive.

About 16 business colleagues had dinner in the room at the back, set off from the noisy main area. It was spacious. We could hear each other. We bantered across the room. Service was most attentive and the presentation of food and drink was well choreographed. It helped that the organiser who picked the menu for the evening is a frequent diner at the restaurant. Every item was memorable. We savoured every morsel from appetizer to dessert. The Cacio e Pepe stood out the most for me and it will be the one that draws me back. Once, a generous benefactor gave my family $1000 to spend on a wonderful dinner. I’m thinking this restaurant would be a candidate for such a treat.

I treated my boyfriend to a BDay dinner and the restaurant was excellent. Food, service and decor, loved it all. We had a lovely table in the back, very cozy. Make your res. way in advance, meaning 30 days, the place gets booked up early. Hit the Rose Bar b4 or after, nice evening all around.

Great service! Great Wine! Great food! The only disappointment is that their chef in charge of their tasting menu has moved on. No more tasting menu here. However, help yourself to a taste of what's left and you won't be disappointed. Absolutely fabulous!

Maialino got off to a rather rocky start, but I must say it finished with a flourish. But more on this later. To start off - and this is important to note - the prices at this restaurant are inclusive of the gratuity. That’s right - for those of you living in Europe, this is one of the only restaurants I have come across State-side in which tipping is not allowed. I had thought the prices looked over the top for food (for example pasta as main $35-$40??), and the restaurant had a wine list that was extensive but had limited selections under $100/bottle. But make sure you factor in the “no gratuity” policy before judging, even though the value proposition still is not great. Welcome to NYC! The ambience is wonderful at Maialino - it really feels like you are in Tuscany in a nice cosy environment. We all had pasta as a main, which was wonderful with the exception of the pasta with butter and pepper which was slightly dry. So back to the issues. Firstly, we were finally seated about 25 minutes after our reservation time, not a good start. And secondly, our (very good) shared starters showed up before our wine, which I consider a real faux pas for fine dining. The manager, servers and sommelier went to extremes to make up for these issues, and in fact did (to their credit), but the dinner did have a couple of awkward and annoying moments which I presume given the restaurant’s reputation is out of character. I will try again.

We were staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel, and showed up late without a reservation hoping for a quick dinner. We were initially discouraged, but the managed to find a table for us. On past visits the service and food have been outstanding, on this last one, not so much. Maybe it was late? Maybe they were tired? Not sure. In any case, the food is Danny Meyers interpretation of Roman. They are very attentive to food allergies (gluten in this case) and have all sorts of substitutions for bread/ pasta which are delicious. Their wine list is terrific, and well priced, obviously with the biggest emphasis on Italian bottles. They even had our favorite wine, which isn't always easy to find in the States. I am giving Maialino the benefit of the doubt for this last visit. The food was very good, but the service a bit off. In the past it has always been outstanding- so we will try it again.

My daughter picked this restaurant as she had returned from studying abroad in Rome and wanted authentic, Roman crafted cuisine. We were not disappointed. We started with the prosciutto and mozzarella which was so tender and fresh. I had the fettuccine bolonese with the cured pork, very flavorful. Our dessert choice was the torte della nonna which is a lemons custard with pine nuts. Amazing with a cup of cappuccino. We will definitely go back again. The only negative was our server who was clearly busy and not attentive to water needs and other minor details, thus the 4 rating instead of 5.

Overpriced, NOT at all Italian, too slow, not nice service, BAD wine by glasses. Really got so angry at this place that don’t even want to explain more.

We had a wonderful lunch at Maialino. Although the food was excellent and a great prix fixe, our server was outstanding. Very attentive and anticipated our needs. Quite professional for a young man. Wine was very good as well. Beautiful location across from Gramercy Park.

Last year Maialino did deserve the best rating. But time has passed and not for the best. Food was then exceptionnal but is now average. The foccacia did not taste as a fresh bake of the day. The menu proposes mozzarella with white pizza but the plate comes with focaccia and not white pizza ! The roasted pig is still tasty and crispy. A really nice dish. Pastas are good but not more than that. Food is expensive , wines are extremely expensive for the value. The place is quite noisy. Disappointment ...

I’ll add my voice to the chorus of those singing Maialino’s praise. This is a unique and still authentic take on Italian/Roman cuisine. We began with the Crostoni, then the roast suckling pig, a side of roasted squash, and we finished with theTiramisu and the Affogatto. Each delicious and beautifully presented. The wine list presents rare and delectable varietals. The staff was attentive and courteous. The interior design is contemporary and welcoming.

This is a place I have always wanted to try for breakfast. Today I had some free time so I decided to treat myself to some breakfast. It was a big disappointment, the service was extremely slow and my server was not customer focused. When I asked the server for my fried eggs to be cooked over medium she let out a deep sigh. I was expecting excellent service as this restaurant is part of a luxury hotel, however the service was really poor. The cappuccino I ordered was good. After waiting 30 minutes for my pork and eggs, I asked for the check, paid and left.....without eating a thing. The restaurant had about 6 tables occupied and most looked like they had already eaten. It is unacceptable to wait half an hour for a simple breakfast dish. I will not visit this restaurant again.

Rustic Roman trattoria. My Bombolotti alla Gricia pasta, Black Pepper, Guanciale and Pecorino was simple fresh and out of this world!

Great atmosphere, sat at the counter and had a chat with our knowledgeable waiter who knew straight away what to offer us from the ‘off the menu’ dishes. Excellent wine selection although expensive for us Europeans. Nonetheless great evening, tasty food, professional service and fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended

We went to Maialino expecting Danny Meyer's standard excellent service but were disappointed. Note that if you get to the restaurant when it opens for dinner at 5:30, there's a huge queue, as they try and decide where to seat everyone. The 10 minute wait surprised since the restaurant calls to confirm your reservation, you'd think they'd have already planned where to seat you. Anyway, we had a pleasant start with a bottle of wine, and asked for the cheese assortment to complement it. We started to pick out the cheeses, and the waiter said, "no, the chef picks out the cheeses", and but when he returned he just put the cheese assortment on the table without a word as to what they were and walked away. We snagged a nearby hostess who then called him over, and he had to head back into the kitchen to figure it out... And it was like that the rest of the night - we had to practically tackle someone to get a second bottle of wine. The room is attractive and light, and the food was good - but not memorable, unless you like suckling pig, so I don't think we're heading back...

I love this casual restaurant right next to the wonderful Gramercy Park Hotel and of course the real park. Feels like a little trattoria, and I love that they focus on region of Friuli. That area of Italy is the north eastern area and borders on Slovenia and Croatia. The restaurant name means Little Pig. They have a high concentration of "pig"on their menu, but all of it is delicious. My daughter and I were in NYC for a couple of days and came to Maialino. We had to try their famous Pig Face appetizer. Yes, it looked scary. but it was incredible, with perfectly cooked meat and skin. All our other items were also perfect, and they have a nice selection of side dishes"contorni". I also enjoyed their broad wine by the class selection.

On a girl's trip last week to NYC, the four of us headed to brunch. We initially had planned a dinner here, but couldn't get a reservation so we settled for brunch. In the Gramercy Hotel, which is beautiful so the décor is country comfortable. Great lively atmosphere and attentive staff. It's a no tipping restaurant so I wasn't sure what to expect. The menu has lots of great selections with plenty of Italian flair, and you can't go wrong with any of the egg dishes, we each tried one of those. But my favorite were the ricotta pancakes which we shared but I could have gladly eaten the whole stack myself. Charming place, great food, a bit pricey ( one sausage serving is one sausage for $8) but then again it's NY. On breakfast I like a little bigger portions since the food costs are lower, so could have been a bit larger servings. But so good that I'd like to try them for dinner on maybe another trip.

This is a "hospitality included" spot by Danny Meyer located in the Gramercy Park Hotel. Entry was through the hotel lobby. On entry there is a coat room. Restrooms are near the kitchen about midway through the dining room. A sign is posted. Seating is at the bar, booths or tables. There are a couple dining rooms. We were seated at a large round table because there were five of us. We ordered drinks and took our time with the menu. They offer a full bar and a good wine selection. I ordered coffee and others got cocktails and the verde, a fruit and vegetable juice concoction. One in the group got the three course meal, the rest chose al a carte. We got two appetizers to share at the table. The artichokes, fried, were wonderful! It was a full plate and easy to share. We also shared the radicchio salad. It was a generous portion. For mains we had Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe, spaghetti, the pasta with clams, and the malfatti. We all thought the pasta dishes were exceptional. My malfatti was so very good. The pork was delicious and the pasta was done perfectly. The sauce on the dish was just perfect. The arugula was raw and arranged around the outer edge of the dish. We all did a little sharing of the pastas. We had two desserts; the nonna's tart and tiramisu. Now, I love tiramisu but the tart was the clear winner. Yes, service was a bit slow and the used dishes stayed on the table a bit longer than desired. And my coffee cup was empty a couple times; I requested a refill. But the food was exceptional. The price was what we expected.

This place is set up like your typical European bierstube, unpretentious and with very tight spaces (tiny tables with minimum space around them) plus a high-chair counter for about 10 people and a bar. The dissonance comes from the fact that the restaurant serves mainly Italian cuisine. The choice of beer is not extensive, but provides a good variety. Paying $22 for a beer doesn't sit well with the bierstube style, though. The food choices are also decent. The service was good. All in all, if you don't care much about money, you can have a decent meal or a great night out here.

Very disappointing experience. The place tries to position itself as authentic Italian cuisine, however it can’t get the most basic dish in spaghetti carbonara right. The plate came out too peppery the first time and well undercooked the second time which for a $30 plate of pasta is unacceptable. The service is quite slow which is surprising given the number of staff employed.

This is a fine dining restaurant just off Gramercy Park on the Gramercy Park Hotel. It is part of the Union Square Hospitality Group led by Danny Meyer. The menu features classic Italian food inspired by Roman dishes. Most recent visit was for lunch. ( I have been here about 8 times.) The food was delicious. I had the burrata which was served with tough chewy bread and the mezzeluna pasta with peas. With a glass of Prosecco. The service was indifferent. One of Danny Meyer's standards is to always know the primary at the table. The server could have cared less and gave the bill to my guest, not me. Embarrassing. Getting drinks too way too long. Staff needs some inspiration.

We went to this restaurant during New York's Restaurant Week so cannot comment on typical price of a meal but can mention w/o hesitation or qualification that the atmosphere and food were excellent. Even before you enter the hotel, the block is charming and Gramercy Park is right across the street. It's all good.

5 of us went here for Sunday brunch last week. Thankfully, we were able to get reservations. The place was packed from 9:30am-11:15am with no end in sight. The waiter tried to be attentive and provide good service, but he just couldn't get it together. I'm sure he was inundated with customers and maybe they should have more help during these intensely busy times. The food was outrageously delicious and worth the wait!! We started off with several of their infamous toffee glazed brioche buns. They were scrumptious! I've heard that they run out of these, so you might want to order some as soon as you're seated. The Cacio e Pepe (soft scrambled egg) was good portion and severed with flat bread, quite tasty. The true stars of breakfast were the Contadino (poached eggs with a hash) and the ricotta pancakes! WOW!! The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and the hash with butternut squash was the perfect side to have with the eggs. The ricotta pancakes were the best I've ever had!! The pancakes were so rich and creamy, they almost didn't need syrup. The sides of bacon were good, as was the side of sausage links, but the main dishes stole the show!! Absolutely worth the wait for the food and definitely worth making reservations!!

We booked well in advance on the advice of some friends and were a bit nervous given some of the recent reviews. We can assure you that the restaurant was even better than we had been advised. Firstly, the service was absolutely top notch. Our waiter (sorry I cannot remember his name but he is an aspiring conductor and piano player) was excellent. He gave good and honest advice, checked in frequently but not too often and was engaged in his job. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and never waited for drinks, wine or food. Everything came promptly. The food quality was excellent and varied. Definitely some interesting options and we recommend something pig related if you do fine here. We highly recommend and will return the next time we visit NYC!

The food was excellent and the service top quality. Only downside was the 30 minute wait for our 8:45 pm reservation.

Our first time at this great Italian restaurant and it surely did not disappoint. From the food to the service, everything was fantastic. Maialino is a super casual place, even though it has table cloths, most were dressed in jeans. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and had a wonderful server named Stevie who was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. In addition the manager Mary, and sommelier Ben, were polite and helpful. Now on to the food. Everything was excellent. Starting with Cacio e Pepe that had just the right amount of cheese and pepper, nothing was overpowering. And then on to the malfatti with the most tender sucking pig and arugula, possibly with a hint of lemon was delicious and making my mouth water as I write. For entrees, after seeing so many suckling pig with roasted potatoes go out, we had to try it. INCREDIBLE, with the most crispy skin on the entire top. Also the half chicken, was super moist and melted in your mouth. We will definitely be back!!!

I recently visited this restaurant based on the reviews. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Location - the location is great, centrally located in Manhattan Atmosphere - is very nice, comfortable, it has a good vibe. But soon you realize it’s very loud. Uncomfortably loud. I looked around at other tables. Couples are hunched over their meals and their tables yelling at each other to be heard. No one is just talking. It’s actually easier to hear the table beside you than your own table. Everyone is yelling. It did not make for an enjoyable experience. Menu - has a good selection of Italian favorites. The food is very tasty. Prices - Prices are expensive. I’ve eaten in many other cities and enjoyed comparable food at far better prices. $40+ (or US$35) for a plate of pasta?! C’mon... And don’t get me started on the wine. It’s very hard to find a GLASS of wine for less than $40. Yes that’s $40. (US$30) the wine I enjoyed was tasty but definitely over-priced. And while management may respond that the tip is included in the price of the menu items, which is unconventional, the prices are such that the meal is still expensive for what you get. Bottom Line: it is a nice restaurant, the food is tasty. The prices are very high for what you get and the alcohol is basically a Rip-off. When you add the noise factor I would not consider returning. Thanks for reading! If you found this helpful please say so below.

Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful service, easy to have a delicious meal with attentive service, and the food oh so good. the Tonnarelli a Cacio e Pepe was excellent just like in Rome, Italy and the Malfatti dish was so good I could have had another. this is a restaurant that others should be judged by. It is just great food for a reasonable price.

I had researched this restaurant before going, mainly because it was a short walk from where I was staying. I have been back several times for both brunch and dinner. I tend to get the same set up each time I go. You know, if it ain't broken, don't fix it! I order salad, then pasta (normally black pepper pasta), and end with a meat dish, e,g. roast pork, roast lamb or rib of beef. The food has never disappointed. Service is great, and atmosphere seems friendly and busy. I shall return many more times.

We had a party is six and enjoyed the Burrata, Polpo, Crudo, Bombolotti and the Mezzaluna. The wine was amazing and remember this is a non-tipping restaurant. The only disappointment was that the wait staff seems a bit preoccupied. We have dined here before and will again.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Indifferent service, the waitress clearly had no idea what was on the menu. Despite stating a specific dairy allergy my friend was served a pasta covered in Parmesan. The manageress was apologetic but really didn’t seem too concerned ....she said she had spoken to the chef, but to be fair to the chef I doubt it was his fault. Don’t the service staff check the food they deliver to a table? When wine was ordered at the bar before the meal the staff clearly had no idea how to handle a bottle of wine....which was warm and unpleasant.....granted they then offered to chill it! Well of course!! It was supposed to be chilled!! Service was slow but the bill arrived promptly at the end! All in all, not worthy of a second visit. One of my friends previously entertained here at a cost of over $8,000 in a private room. Unfortunately I checked too late....he wouldn’t go back. Overpriced and so many better options in NYC.

The headline dish - the Maialino - is why many go here and our local friend has had it before. I opted for the Salmerino and my wife had the Vongole. All were good. Remember the prices all "inclusive" - so no tipping meaning that $80 bottle of wine is just that...ditto the food. Service was good and not pretencious.

Food and Service were really outstanding overall. The only minor issue with the food was that the afagato dessert where the espresso served on top was cold instead of being hot. The atmosphere was very nice but somewhat too noisy for us. The men's bathroom was odd and uncomfortable in that when opening the sliding barn door to enter the entire bathroom is exposed to people in the hallway.

Beautiful location and great service. They have so many people working here to serve and a sommelier which is nice. Unfortunately, there were foods salted and spiced way too much for me. Potatoes were way too salty, baby squash had too much vinegar to the point I couldn’t eat them. A lot of garlic on the green beans. We all had a pasta as a first course and they have GF pasta. Also, served GF bread which is unusual so this was very nice. Then we had the Maialino al FornoSlow-Roasted Suckling Pig & Rosemary Potatoes which is served for two or four. When they brought it to the table I hoped they would help us cut it so we could share it. They didn’t offer and it was hard to cut but our daughter dove in so we didn’t ask. I am sure they would have been happy to help but I expected them to at least offer. Desserts were not very GF friendly but hey have gelato and sorbet which works.

I met a college friend for drinks at the bar. Loved the atmosphere: classy with a professional crowd but also casual and warm. As a relative neophyte to Italian wines which made up most of the wine list, I described what I was looking for in a wine to the bartender. He nodded his head and came back with a taste of something I hadn’t noticed on the menu and likely would not have ordered but absolutely loved. Lots of points for listening and understanding his high-maintenance audience and bonus points to the restaurant for putting a wine on the menu specifically to support the victims of the recent fires in Northern California (Anthill Farms - they make great Pinot Noir and I had no idea they made Dolcetto before my experience at Maialino).

I do not even know where to begin. Everything went wrong from the moment we walked in to the restaurant. We arrived around 5:20pm for a 5:30pm reservation. The hostess said that we cannot be seated until 5:30pm, so she took our coats and suggested we get a drink at the bar. My brother ordered two old fashioned cocktails at the bar and it was $50. Outrageous even for New York City. My father went to the bathroom while we were waiting at the restaurant and was surprised to see that not only was the faucet broken but there was no soap in the bathroom. He mentioned it to a kitchen employee who was also in the bathroom at the time and this employee did not apologize but said "oh yeah it's been like that for weeks". My father then went up to the host stand to let them know about the soap, and she told him that employees do not use that bathroom and that there is another bathroom in the lobby he should use. No apology at all. He then let her know that as he was walking in to that bathroom, that an employee was walking out of it, so employees obviously used this bathroom. The lady at the host stand then again did not apologize but began to act extremely defensive and kept repeating that employees aren't supposed to use that bathroom and that then continued to make her case worse by saying that the staff new the sink was broken but they were waiting for someone to be able to come out and fix it. Don't you think that this bathroom should have been closed? It is a health code violation to have employees using a bathroom with a broken sink and no soap. I have worked in the hospitality industry for close to ten years and I currently work at a luxury resort hotel and all I have to say was that if a team member at our restaurant in our hotel was caught dead speaking to a guest in the manner that this woman was speaking to my father it would be cause for immediate dismissal. The customer is always right. She was arguing with my father and it was quite embarrassing. To top it off, after we were finally sat down at our table around 5:45 or so, it came to quite the surprise to us that the prices were higher at the restaurant than they were online. The pasta portions were just small appetizer portions and if you wanted to get an actual entree portion it was $10 more. Yes this is quite normal in New York, but this should be stated on the menu online. The suckling pig was also twice the price than it said on the online menu if you wanted enough to actually share with four people. Even then it was not as much food as you would expect for $110. What was even more shocking was the wine list. Having lived in Manhattan for a year, I was not expecting anything cheap, but this was the most insanely overpriced wine list I have ever seen. My father is very knowledgeable about wine and spent 15 minutes flipping through the wine list absolutely shocked at how expensive the bottles were even for a very cheap bottle of wine. There were less than 10 bottles under $100 and all of these bottles were complete crap. In the end, we ended up forgoing the bottle of wine all together because of how much of a rip off every single bottle was. Our waitress was clearly taken aback by us handing her back the wine list and saying we were going to stick with water because she was extremely rude to us the entire time. The service at dinner was extremely sub par. For a restaurant that has so many raving reviews and prides themselves on their stellar service and food, I was absolutely disappointing. The waitress as well as the entire staff treated us like we were less than worthy to be dining at this restaurant and we felt very uncomfortable the entire meal. For the amount of money that your guests are spending to dine at this restaurant, we were expecting top notch service but instead we got a waitress who couldn't even be bothered to refill our waters or ask us how we were enjoying our food (which was actually very delicious - the only good thing about the entire experience). In addition to the poor service at the restaurant, the service at the hotel itself was very disappointing as well. I went into the hotel to use the bathroom since the one at the restaurant was not usable, and could not find it. I walked up to the front desk and the man at the front desk was not only leaned over against the desk (which having worked as a front desk manager at two luxury hotels in the past I can tell you is an absolute no-no) but he was extremely rude to me when I asked him where the bathroom was. He looked at me with an annoyed look on his face and said "right in front of you". Excuse me?? Right in front of me was a hallway with an elevator and multiple doors off of it. The proper thing to do at a luxury hotel is to walk the guest to where they need to go and if that is not possible to politely explain. Overall, I have never been more disappointed with a restaurant before in my entire lifetime. What was supposed to be a special holiday dinner together with my family who not able to see each other often due to living on opposite ends of the country turned into an absolute mess. The overall experience put my entire family in a bad mood and what was a fun day spent in New York City turned into us arguing at the dinner table about how we should have picked a different restaurant. So thank you to Maialino for ruining our family dinner. My advice? Do not ever go to this restaurant if you care about getting your money's worth or receiving great service.

I've had one the most tasty pasta all'amatriciana ever, and it was a great surprise. The place is nice but in the average. Service was nice and the dinner was a pleasure.

Met with friends for a meal in Milano Italian restaurant, before the meal we had a drink in the Rose Bar. Drinks very very expensive. G&T $20. Same for cocktails. Very noisy re music very loud. Decor a mix of pictures of ‘celebrities’ e.g naked Eminem yes really! The meal was good, not great the bill not so good, can’t understand why everything so expensive, as the food wasn’t Michelin star. The best thing was the staff they were, well trained and brilliant. Otherwise l wouldn’t touch the place with a long broom handle

I've been wanting to dine here for some time, but somehow hadn't gotten there even though I live and work very close by. Finally made it there with my wife and son on Saturday for a pre-father's day dinner, and now I'm kicking myself for the last decade of deprivation! First, I will say that I was a little perturbed that they tried to cram three of us at a table clearly meant for two -- and which was squeezed at an angle next to a pole -- they clearly stuck a table in the last available space on the floor. This isn't atypical in NYC, especially when you have a teen in tow, even though my son has dined all over the world and has a palate more sophisticated than most adults. Honestly -- I'd been looking forward to dining here so much, that the thought of not being able to enjoy it because we all couldn't fit our legs under the (I'm 6 foot tall) without kicking each other all night was just a disappointment, especially in such a fine dining establishment. So, I decided to politely but firmly express my disappointment. Normally that doesn't earn you much, but here it did. I was pleasantly surprised and very grateful to be moved to a table where we could better relax and actually have room on the table for sharing plates etc. That was great. The service, the food and the ambiance all lived up to expectations. We had a few orders of crudo and uova to begin. The crudo (fluke) was perfect -- as was the uova -- which was beautifully presented over asparagus, and topped with bottarga. My wife and I ordered a small portion of the Messalina| pasta as a middle course, delicate pillows filled with Ricotta, Pine Nut, Spring Peas, and finished with lemony butter. Awesome. Nicest of all was that they sent out a complimentary order of the cavatelli, which had morels, lemon and pecorino. Really terrific. We concluded with the Arctic Char (wife), the Roasted Duck Breast (son) and the Pollo alla Diavola| (me). All delicious. With one of our favorite wines (an Edi Kante Chardonnay) to complete the treat. (They have a superb wine list btw) As I mentioned earlier, the service was terrific. I much appreciated being moved, and it made for a much more enjoyable evening. Our waitress was superb, the sommelier and the staff were excellent. On our way in I saw they had a plate displayed from my favorite restaurant in Rome -- Checchino, where I've probably dined about 20 times. That was a good sign as I've always felt at home there And thanks to the great staff at Maialino for making us feel just as much at home there too.

Great environment - could be anywhere in Italy or elsewhere in Europe. . Cool waiter - from Argentina . Great appetizer - prosciutto & pea pods. Wines by the glass O K except for the prices.

Lobster spaghetti and salad both are perfect, we just spend some time in New York, luckily have this great dinner

My wife and I took two nieces to dinner to celebrate one of their birthdays. We knew that Maialino would be special for them but had no idea how delicious the food and how professional the service. The opening grilled Octopus was super tender, while the entrees that ranged from Pasta to rabbit were culinary delights. Our waiter recommended the tiramisu for a shared dessert and it didn’t disappoint. The Wine list is extensive and expensive but does cover the varietals and wine regions of Italy in great depth. Truly a wonderful and relaxing dining experience. One caveat: dine in the glamorous back dining room, rather than the bar, which is very noisy and cramped.

Had a wonderful dinner Christmas Eve -- a time when obviously none of the servers or staff wanted to be there, they never let it show and the service was extraordinary, especially given how crowded they were. We were an hour early for our reservation and they seamlessly worked us in. The cocktails were perfect (my wife remarked it was the best gimlet she's ever had) and the wine recommendation (not a particularly expensive bottle) on point. Pastas were spectacular -- the cacio pepe and a special of spaghetti with lobster. And the suckling pig was done perfectly. The atmosphere at the GPH is great and we never felt rushed despite the crush of people they were dealing with. It is expensive, but to us was worth every penny -- especially the pastas.

This is a wonderful place for high end drinks and snacks. There is a casual bar upfront which has unreserved seats. We had drinks, a cheese plate, and olives. By no means cheap, it is a lovely place for conversation and drinks. Right on Gramercy Park!

We booked for brunch but looked at the menu and wanted their pasta. We arrived at 11 and they don’t serve pasta until noon. Joe, our server was most accommodating. We nursed some apps and then had one dish with suckling pig and another with clams. Both were fantastic. Wine pairing was spot on, again at Joe’s suggestion.

Back to Maialino after long time. Lovely dinner with friends Nice atmosphere, very good service. However, we could not get reservations at 7/730 . According to the person answering the phone, the only opening was at 5.30 we accepted. ( at 730 the Restaurant was half empty) Food was excellent in particular Pasta alla Gricia dish not to popular around Town. But everything was Very good. Also very sold wine list. Except for the reservation mystery. E fun evening.

We were very disappointed in the service. We sat at the bar to have drinks and apps and it seemed like the two bartenders were doing us a favor by attending to us. I also noticed that there was some tension between these two employees. The female seemed to be annoyed that the male bartender didn’t take care of us. He was spending all his time chatting with a party of three next to us. We know that Danny Meyer has switched compensation for employees to a salary-based system, and we couldn’t help but wonder if this is why these two really didn’t go out of their way to be hospitable. My husband was particularly disappointed because he works in the industry as a restaurant manager in a fine dining establishment in New Haven, CT (where Danny has dined) so he really expected more. He quotes Danny Meyer all the time when training staff! It was a big let down for him. As far as the food was concerned, the trippa was good, but we didn’t care for the what appeared to be a deconstructed pizza: a ball of burrata, some cold bread, and two lonely anchovies on top of the cheese. Really?

My husband and I were looking for a place to go to for our anniversay and to appease my desire for suckling pig settled on Maialino. The fact that it's owned by a renowned chef made it even more appealing especially since my husband works in the industry. The evening started off great we were warmly welcomed with a glass of champagne and since our table was not yet ready we sat at the bar. After being led to our table my husband settled on the Spaghetti Vongole and I had the Malfatti. I wasn't overly impressed with my dish but my husband was absolutely fuming after the first mouthful of his. He compared it to flavorless spaghetti in dirty bath water..he complained to our waiter about the lack of taste and salt and a few minutes later we were approached by the floor manager who profusely apologized and assured us that it would be taken off the bill. We then had the suckling pig entree which was a tad better but was still lacking the wow factor that I was expecting. It ended with the waiter forgetting to bring back our 'doggie bag' and a $170 bill for three drinks, one entree and one pasta dish. The bill wouldn't have been so galling if the food was up to par!

I was there with my buddies for a brunch. Good service and good food. Cotechino was excellent. Will go back for their pasta for sure

On the way to a friend’s, we decided to stop by for breakfast. We noticed prices were well above NYC average, but were happy to go ahead due to the reputation of the hotel and appearance of the restaurant. Being fairly hungry, I decided on the brioche with salmon, capers, cream cheese and coffee. I asked for raw onions and tomato to be added; after a while the waiter returned to say the kitchen had only pickled onions and no tomato (?). The brioche arrived in no hurry; it was minuscule, smallest ever—3-4 inches in diameter — and not at all fresh; there was a very thin smear of watery cream cheese and perhaps 8-10 tiny capers, and six tiny slices of salmon, and maybe two of a half teaspoon of thinly sliced pickled onion. The coffee was lukewarm at best, and unremarkable in any way. The second cup, following specific request, came eventually without apology, much warmer but not hot. My wife’s pastry was better but nothing special; there was a 3.50 unforetold additional charge for the butter and jam that accompanied the included croissant, which appeared tacky. The server was courteous but obviously not very experienced; the rover was solicitous. I did not make a fuss. The ambience is nice, white table cloth and all, but more attention to fundamentals in a restaurant of this ilk will hopefully result in a better experience for some who follow.

Wonderful food, a little bit more expensive than surrounding excellent restaurants but a little bit better as well.

Ive been here several times and have not been disappointed, but i took my IFS for her first visit and it was extraordinary. The staff are classically well trained in the Danny Meyer tradition. Great service, friendly and attentive to your every need. Phenomenal Italian wine list with great selections from $50 and up...and up! Their wine program is second to none. We shared the prosciutto and mozzarella - the meat was nutty and salty, moist and bursting its flavor. I had the spaghetti carbonara which was pale licking(ok, i used bread) delicious. My wife had he Casio e pepe, perfectly done. I had the signature dish, Maialino Il forno. Not only delicious, but Fred Flintstone sized! I laughed hen our waitress offered us dessert - we were so stuffed

We had a couple of nights at Gramercy Park Hotel, so Maialino was an obvious choice for a fancy meal. I'll confess to having spent quite a while on-line drooling over the excellent (Italian dominant) wine list, so having selected a fine Barbaresco from my birth year, the food was always going to be secondary. Yes, I am a wine nerd! Maialino is a fine restaurant, treading a path between up-scale dining and rustic Italian. The food was very good, although for me to have given the full five stars I would have wanted something so very memorable that I would try (and fail) to recreate it when I got home. So let's say 4.5 stars - really good food, perhaps just shy of a "wow" factor. The staff were excellent, as you would expect in such an establishment. A note on price... There are many TripAdvisor reviews which berate a classy restaurant for charging high prices, to which I would say that you know up front what you are letting yourself in for - if you want cheap food it's out there. Maialino was expensive, and for this Brit the exchange rate didn't help, but I certainly feel I got a very good meal here.

The service is impeccable, the food is totally out of this world, the atmosphere is busy and the restaurant is always packed be sure to make a reservation. When you arrive you are greeted warmly, the waiter pays full attention when you order and the service is highly efficient.

Ate here twice during my stay and loved it. Food is delicious. First time had Louie as a waiter and he took incredible care of us. He suggested good items and he was right. The sommelier gentlemen couldn’t have done a better job picking out our wine and like a class act it wasn’t expensive. Second time came and sat at the bar and they seem to need some help. They act like you’re bothering them when you ask for simple things like a glass of water. I will definitely be back but not at the bar! Bucatini and half chicken is delicious. I warn you this place is not cheap. $40 for pasta is outrageous. The only positive is the gratuity is included. Packed and fun crowd.

Such a disappointment, was the regular chef on vacation? That can’t be it unless he/she took the bartender too. I started with a Moscow Mule which is something of a bar basic now-but it was awful. I think they forgot the ginger beer. We shared a cheese plate-nothing special but certainly nothing to judge a restaurant on. Then we shared a pasta- cacio e pepe-we both love it, it’s an easy share. The flavor was good+ but the cook decided to forgo the al dente method and made it floppy noodle style. We didn’t finish. We shared an heirloom tomato salad with stone fruit. That was the best dish-great ingredients, I’d have preferred less dressing. Then we shared the Atlantic Char along with a corn side with okra. Inedible for the salt. I’m sensitive to salt but my date is not and he too couldn’t eat it. To their credit, they didn’t charge us and gave us complimentary cookies to go (they too were terrible!) but given the price I felt compelled to leave this review. Another note: check the menu, a lot of pork, not much vegetarian at all. There are so many great restaurants to enjoy in NYC! Skip this one.

Mailalino is located in the elegant Gramercy Park Hotel and overlooks the Gramercy park. The bar area is stylish. The dining area is nice and casual with blue and white checkered table clothes. The service is attentive and knowledgeable We had chicken heart skewers, Malfatti with braised suckling pig and arugula, Bombolotti with black pepper, pecorino, guanciale and fava beans, and olive oil cake. Everything was delicious. The chicken hearts were thin and tender. The cake was moist and flavorful. But the Malfatti was hands down the best.

Although GOOD service is included, no one seems to try to do anything special to guarantee GREAT service. When I sat at the bar to await my companion, the first words after seven minutes from the bartender were just a minute. With a dismissal wave of his hand. Then, when we asked if we could order appetizers and drinks and see the size before placing all order for pasta and then second courses, our waiter said no. “Here we take all orders or don’t put anything into the kitchen because everything has to be exquisitely time.d“ It was a wonderfully coordinated, sterile, computer, robotic like manipulation of food. Every time someone comes to the table with a plate, everyone looks at the table like not understanding where dishes could possibly fit onto the table. The dishes are oversized with such small tables. For example, a few Brussel sprouts on a large flat plate could easily fit into a smaller bowl. Squash came souped in oil. Our champagne came in wine glasses— no flutes! No bubbles! Sadness! The place is packed because it’s new and the food is adequate but hardly genuinely authentic. Cacio e Pepe for example had a soupy sauce that left liquid in the plate, a telltale sign of an un authentic dish for this recipe. And we had 2. The golden rule of customer service is to make everyone feel welcome, regardless how busy and establishment is. Just welcome, recognize, and noticed. Not served immediately – this is too much to ask. I probably won’t return.

Food is pretty tasty. Multiple bars flank the lobby and have a good vibe. Lose the inefficient and rude cost check woman. She sets the wrong mood. So nasty!

We ate dinner recently at Maialino and mostly enjoyed it (prefer it for brunch and the Ricotta Pancakes), but enjoyed the Pork Ragu pasta. The best dish was the sweet potato listed on the fourth course—so good. However, much of the meal was fine but nothing special. I’d likely come back and stick with brunch.

We first really enjoyed the space and the service. It has a nice warming feeling. The waiter was also very nice. Then the pasta came lukewarm so we sent it back to the kitchen and it came back lukewarm a second time. We decided not to send it again. What we did not appreciate is that the service became different from the time we sent back the dish. Instead of making up it was almost as if we were in the wrong for sending back a lukewarm dish. It made us feel uncomfortable for the rest of the meal. The quality of the pasta was just fine. I did not like the cappuccino which came more like black coffee with a bit of milk. They did not charge us for the cold pasta which was a good gesture and appreciated.

Maialino is always. I've been going for brunch, lunch and dinner over the course of the past 6 years. The vibe is very lovely, with a great bar and dining area. The food is good; they have great fish and pasta choices. The cheese and meat choices for a starter are also excellent. Great wine list and great service.

Love this place a favorite of ours the chicken is great as well as the salmon. Prices are reasonable for NYC and the atmosphere is lively and happy. Decor is beautiful

It’s absurd to try to get a table but we finally got 2 seats at a communal table. The food is great good but expensive for the portion size. The inclusion of the tip in the bill is obnoxious And is probably why 3 tiny pieces of octopus costs 24 dollars. It’s very loud so if you want to have a conversation... forget it ...

The food is excellent. The atmosphere is lively. The decor is contemporary and warm at the same time. It is classy without being stuffy. The signature Roast Suckling Pig is well prepared but not for everybody. You have to like crackling pork skin and juicy pork meat with thick layers of fat in between. I had it once as a main course and a second time as part of the sauce for pasta called Malfatti. The latter was amazing. The only shortcoming was the service. The hostess did not have the experience required for this level of restaurant, and the drinks we ordered while we were waiting took forever to be served. The first table we were given was unsatisfactory. Once they found us a suitable table, everything went well. I would have given this a 5 if it were not for the weak start to our evening. In the end, this is an excellent NY experience with very good, higher end Italian food and a good atmosphere. It is well worth the visit.

The only good thing to say - the atmosphere. Food: awful! Not Italian at all! Not even close! Pasta drowning in the cheese sauce, drowning! You can only feel the salt in that cheese! Wine: disgusting! What they offer by glass is the cheapest ever wine that in Italy is sold by pints and costs 2 euros! Traditional SEAFOOD dish contained one small piece of white fish and a couple of shrimps, - that's it! Plus to that - overpriced... Will never come back and don't recommend to anyone...

I've been a few years ago in this Restaurant and I went back recently. the food is very good, the lunch menu doesn't offer a large choice for primi piatti, but it's possible to ask for small variations. I asked for fettuccine with tomato and grana padano: I 'd have rather preferred to have Parmigiano Reggiano shaved at the table right in front of me.

I took my 3 adult kids here last night. We’ve been to many Danny Meyer restaurants so we were all excited to try this one. First, the prices don’t align with the level of service. We waited so long for our first cocktails. Our waiter wanted to move us with appetizers and dinner bit we had yet to set eyes on our first our drinks ordered well before ?? No pace - and then once they arrived - they weren’t that good. I had a dippy little martini in a luke warm glass - aren’t martinis supposed to be chilled? Painful to swallow at 20 bucks. Our pasta dishes were lukewarm and meh. No one stopped by to add cheese. Most of us still like to add cheese unless chef thinks it’s too perfect as is?? By the time our dinners arrived the restaurant was hopping and it looked like our poor waiter was covering half the room. I think he was in a full sweat. There was no one to clear our long finished plates of food - gross to look at - but also a cringer at the prices you charge. Is this how you save expenses now that you supposedly pay wait staff a living wage? If so, go back to the old ways for everyones sake. Wish I could have my $395 back!

From the Bread basket to the Dolce , each course was well prepared and delisioso!!! I promise you will eat well and be more than satisfied. The service was pleasant, yet our server seemed a bit overwhelmed, it seemed his station had too many tables...as a result there was a issue with the bill that was immediately and professionally addressed. Looking forward to the next visit.

What a lovely evening. It's funny, because at our hotel, I was telling my husband about this restaurant and the reservations we had for here that night, and he was reluctant to agree with me that it was a good idea to go here. He complained and complained, and I was starting to wonder myself if it was worth it. "Why are we going to an expensive Italian restaurant? Italian shouldn't be expensive!" etc Oh, it was so worth it. I got to say "I told you so" over and over again. LOL I am not an interesting eater, so I ordered the cacio e pepe. But I had never had it, always wanted to try it, and had heard so many good things about this place, so I picked it for my first place to eat it. It was delicious. Though if you are a more adventurous eater than I am, you might want to try something else. My husband had a black bass stew with clams and crab in a tomato broth, with plenty of crusty, delicious bread to soak up the broth, and he said it was one of the best meals he's ever eaten in his life. And the service was absolutely amazing. It was such a fun, classy dinner experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's hard for me sometimes to write an amazing review for a restaurant because of my limited eating, but I liked my basic dish a lot, and I watched my husband fall in love with his. And I'm the writer here, so you will all have to take my word for it! You should definitely go here.

Maialino (vicino) is a version of the original Maialino in the Gramercy Park Hotel. Lovely Italian Roman food. Great service in the Danny Meyer tradition. Menu is small, but each dish was filled with flavor. Location is on 30th street just off Fifth Ave. Easy walk from MSG or Midtown. Bus and train options. Mid priced around $100 per person.

Lovely restaurant and very food food but for the $$, they need better service (tip included, which may be the reason)! Also, the size of my martini was TINY. Needs to improve to get more stars from me.

I am a fan of Danny Myers as one of the best restaurateur. His Gramercy Tavern, Modern and even Shack Shack continue to remain on my top list. His introduction of NO TIP is a welcome sign and Mr. Myers should be commended for it. Danny Myers Maialino did not live up to my expectations. May be I expect too much from his restaurants. I ordered Salumi Misti as an appetizer. For $ 22, it had a sparse serving of prosciutto and Salami. It was served with exceptionally good quality olives but no bread. The fettuccine with bolognese sauce( $ 32) was drowned in heavy cream dominating all other flavours. All in all, Maialino disappointed me compared with Babbo or Lupa. Yes, I will revisit Gramercy Tavern this week end. One of my favourites in NYC. Cheers Suresh Chawla Toronto, Canada

I had a wonderful lunch at Maialino. It was already after their last call for lunch and I felt a little disappointed that we had to choose from a limited menu. So I hesitated and almost left. Staying was the best decision! The restaurant is pleasant, with a comfortable, homey feeling. It is located at the Gramercy Park Hotel. The hostess and the server were very nice. We chose simple dishes, and they were perfect in their simplicity. We shared a Salumi Misti (Finocchiona, Prosciutto di Parma, Salami Etna & Olives). Each product was very thinly sliced, exquisite!. We also shared a salad (Insalata: Mixed Greens, Anchovy, Pecorino & Breadcrumb), which was marvelous, every leaf covered with the tangy dressing. Afterwards we had bucatini and fettuccini, very well prepared. For dessert we shared a Chocolate Almond Sundae Chocolate & Torrone Gelato, Roasted Almonds, Fudge Brownie, Amaretto Cream, Warm Chocolate Sauce. We cleaned our plates! Our server was nice and friendly, and took care of each of the details we preferred. If you are in this area do not miss this restaurant.

I have eaten here a few times over the years and I have to say, this time we were not blown away. Shout out to the contorni offering of mushrooms- Pasta- just tasted bland and kind of blah. We ordered a starter of fried artichokes and vegetables. We assumed incorrectly they were either lightly battered or not at all. A sad, heaping plate of gummy dough appeared. The batter so thick we tried to dig a few veggies out and honestly only found tiny pieces. So back that went and they were nice about it. Service was SLOW. While I appreciate them not whisking your plate away in mid spaghetti twirl, there is no need to wait 45 minutes for some boiled starch to get fired up in the kitchen. The place was fairly empty on a Thursday. We went for a dessert plate of cookies and they were truly underwhelming. Dry and looked like they had seen better days on Arthur Avenue. Wish I had better things to say- but for the prices- they should shine.

Danny Meyer restaurants are known for their hospitality, but Maialino this evening was OH WOW!!!! Maialino is one of our favorite “go-to” neighborhood restaurants. I must have been there a total of 50 times since I bought an apartment as my secondary residence in Gramercy. It is consistently good. But for some reason, probably because when we arrived the restaurant was not at all busy, this time we really got the royal treatment. Generally as a walk-in with no reservation, we are seated in the café/bar side, which is perfectly fine. But this time we were glad to be seated in the main dining room just to mix it up a bit! Upon entering we were greeted warmly and thanked for coming in. Hazel asked if we wanted to check our coats. She did that with warmth and grace. She had such a pleasant demeanor ! We were soon whisked in to the main dining room. I recognized Yalena, the dining room manager from a distance who rushed over toward our table. She insisted on pourOmg is each a glass of Rose champagne to ring in the New Year. We are not big champagne drinkers but her choice was absolutely delicious. So much so I had another glass with my meal! We talked at length about foreign languages and discovered that she and I had a lot in common and spoke many of the same ones. There was a real connection there. Yalena has a very special gift. She really knows how to connect with others and make them feel special. Her position as Dining Room Manager is an excellent “ FIT” for this very young lady! She poured us a glass of bubbly rose, and soon after, a very attentive James arrived with the cocktails we had ordered previously. Soon after Yalena returned with a beautiful dish of warm lightly fried carciofini. Molto Delizioso!!! The rest of the event went like clockwork. James did not miss an opportunity to inquire about our experience and make sure everything was to our liking. He was at our beck and call and was more than attentive! On our way out, Elizabeth rushed to get our coats without being asked. She was lovely personable and warm. Yet another great and memorable evening at our “go-to” MAIALINO! We are so fortunate!

After our wonderful lunch at the Union Square Cafe (same owner) we had a reservation for Maialino.. we were full expectation, but were sorely disappointed in this restaurant which is supposed to be "top of the line".. It was extremely busy, the tables too near each other, noisy, the waiting staff not up to par, it took 20 minutes before we got any attention apart from being shown our table, the prices on the wine list were absurdly high for the quality that they offered, and it was disappointing that they only had one vino nobile on the list, the appetizer my husband had chosen, was actually quite disgusting, he sent it back! Bad choice to choose the chicken liver pate.. His Oxtail was served in a bowl instead of on a plate which made it difficult to get to the meat and the sauce, since the big bones were constantly in the way... Unfortunately the waiting staff was rather arrogant about our complaints, in a like "how dare you complain" sort of way. Needless to say we will not go back to this restaurant.

We went to this very well reviewed restaurant for brunch and were seriously disappointed. I most say the bread and pastries were great, even the gluten free bread was good, but everything else was substandard. The egg white frittata was dry and bland, the cacio pepe pasta was tasteless and the bolognese was just ok. I don’t know if they were just having an off day , but at this price point it is unacceptable. The service was nice.

We had a great dinner here. My wife said the flavor of her pasta dish was about the best she has ever had. My braised suckling pig was outstanding. The zucchini side order had a tasty mix of flavors. Recommend all three dishes. Service was excellent. Wine list pricey.

Three friends and I stopped into Maialino to sit at the bar just for drinks. We wound up at a high top in the bar area. We're all craft cocktail lovers so we immediately went to the cocktail selection on the menu. Then I noticed that there was a cabinet with open bottles of wine being kept cool and connected and thought this is serious, maybe we should order a bottle of wine. The waiter brought the wine list but we couldn't make heads or tails of it -- the waiter then very snootily (so very UN Danny Meyer like) told us the wines weren't separated by reds and whites, but rather by regions. I drink a lot of wine but I know what I like by grapes mostly, not regions. So frustrated, especially with the waiter, we handed back the wine list. He didn't get the message and remained unhelpful. I then said I really like falanghina. He didn't offer the location of the grape, so I gave up not know if it was on the menu or if it was, where it would be located. I had no intention of popping probably over $100 for a bottle of something the waiter was completely ignorant about and snooty on top of that. However, we all ordered cocktails and they were great. I love rum and had a rum negroni. I was facing the bar and saw the bartender take my drink and put it to the side. He made another one. I don't know what he didn't like about it, but that's the sign of a really good bartender - someone who cares enough about the drink to make it over even when the customer is not watching you make it. Still watching, I next saw our lovely (not) waiter take a straw and use it move some of one cocktail into another cocktail glass to even out the amount of cocktail in each glass (both glasses held the same cocktail). I mean this was ludicrous (he was not using his mouth, just his fingers on top to move small amounts). The levels of cocktail weren't that uneven that anyone would notice. But we did notice the waiter being a jerk. So, warnings to alcohol lovers -- know your grapes if you intend to drink here. Notice to Danny Meyer, I love you and all your restaurants and have been eating in them for decades, but please make the wine menu palatable to those of us who appreciate a good bottle but don't have the geographer. And fire that waiter!

We ended up in Maialino because it’s physically in the same building as our hotel. And after an 8.5 hour drive we had no batteries left for wandering out. What a good choice. The physical space is ok—nothing memorable. But the food—that is definitely memorable! The caprese starter was probably the best we’ve ever had anywhere. Including Italy. We each tried a pasta entree and each was marvelous. Unique takes on typical dishes. We shared their tiramisu for dessert, and again perhaps the best we’ve had anywhere. Including again Italy. The wine list is lavish, but the “table” wines are great in their own right. Service was attentive without being pushy; spot on. If you want an Italian meal that will delight, you cannot go wrong.

Back to this lovely establishment next to Gramercy Park - and no disappointment at all. Very pleasant and helpful staff, good menu and food and lovely wine list.

We tried the salad which was good; three pasta dishes which were average, the lamb which was disappointing and the chicken which was reasonably good. We won’t be coming back.

Carlos!! Ask for him! He was a wonderful server that was kind, patient, and attentive. Food was great! I would give it 5 stars but it's just too pricey- possibly because of the tips being included at DM restaurants now... but thank you Carlos- we will come back!

The food was fantastic but the servings are exceptionally small. I may suggest lunch or appetizers but unless you have unlimited funds to spend. I felt the portions were more tapas that were excessively overpriced. The atmosphere is beautiful but not worth it.

The restaurant is cute, stylish, authentic and the food os fantastic. The service is great and while it is more fine dining with the price tag, its like fine dining in Italy, relaxed and not pretentious. Brunch here is also great the the coffee is probably my fav in the city.

What a disgraceful way to ruin an absolutely wonderful restaurant and its long standing reputation - let me explain. My brother and I have been going to Maialino's since the week it opened years ago - in our book and that of other it was an incredible hit. My brother lives across the street in Gramercy Park and we'd often chat with Denny when he'd walk around the restaurant to say hello. We knew all the managers, sommeliers even favorite staff. No longer, it clearly is in a downhill slide. Last month five of us went there for lunch on a Saturday. Restaurant was very busy and the front greeters seemed to be in a panic. We were seated at a round table near the window except the table cloth had bread crumbs etc still on it. We realized right away something was wrong as the server came to say hello and disappeared for 15 minutes. We ordered a cocktail and when my wife's white wine arrived a different server served it by "throwing" it out of the side of the small pitcher thereby causing the glass to sway which I stopped before it tumbled over. From there it was downhill - over half and hour to order after sitting for quite a while, bottle of wine took another half an hour to arrive. two of the five entrees were ice cold - the Ciaco e Pepe scrambled eggs a former favorite, was a disaster. Anyway it is no longer the quality, professional restaurant it used to be. Perhaps now that the service staff automatically get their 18% tip whether they are focused or not, care or not, sloppy or not it truly shows. So, simply because I always hate to see best of breed restaurants fail I would ask a simply question: Where is Denny Meyer? and does he care.Perhaps your Restaurant Management Group should go in and clean house, reinvent your once prized formula. Sorry for such a terrible review - but folks need to know that it is no longer worth the high price and embedded service fees. None of us will be going back.

Had a fun evening with friends but rarely saw our server. The sommelier was terrific with the paired wines and tasting menu but the regular server never came. The food was fine but not amazing. We actually had to go ask for our bill at the end of our meal. It was a nice evening but because of the company, not the restaurant experience.

People really rave about this Italian restaurant as one of the best in the city but I was slightly underwhelmed by both the atmosphere and the food, especially the pig head which is their delicacy. Service was very good.

Atmosphere-Food-Service...all 10's! That's what makes a fabulous restaurant. We sat in the section farthest to the back for date night. (there's a much more noisy bar scene up in the front.) The prosciutto and pecorino starters were fabulous. If you like Pork, the Maialino al Forno is a must! We loved the duck ragu pasta as well. A HUGE PLUS is that you don't have to tip. Sure wish ALL restaurants in this country incorporated this!!!

I love going to Maialino for brunch. The toffee buns are a must. I usually have the French press coffee as well, but it wasn’t available this time. They had a new egg dish that I tried and I loved it - it was their classic cacio e pepe eggs with pork in it. They can accommodate pretty big parties and I’ve never had a long wait when I didn’t have a reservation. I love the decor and the waitstaff is pleasant. It’s also a no tipping restaurant - it’s included in the price, so there’s no need to leave gratuity.

This is my second time to this spot and I loved the Carbonara. The suckling pig is also amazing and I wish we ordered it for the table to share. The smell as it drifts by is enticing.

The no-tipping policy makes the prices seem even higher but their really just in the ballpark. Terrific service, great menu choices, good sized portions, and the food is excellent. With a bunch of guy and we brought wine and corkage was reasonable - at least we thought so. Nice room too. It's worth a visit. And a repeat one too in my case.

Beautiful location. First rate service. Superb wine list. And the food! The food is just extraordinary. A great menu for an Italian restaurant in Italy. That on itself makes it a very unique restaurant not only in New York but also in the United States. Be ready to experience some truly great food. Take your time to enjoy it and make your reservations way ahead of time.

I was recommended to Maialino by a young friend who used to live in NYC. I live in SF where we KNOW Italian - but this was to truly die for......We started with a split order of the brussel sprouts - they were delicate and perfectly cooked and was for us the perfect first course. We both had pasta dishes - my friend had pasta with clams - I had the tortelli with pumpkin - the mix of balsamic with brown sage butter was perfection. We were celebrating my friend's birthday. What I loved is that they asked us what we wanted for dessert (cookies) and when they brought the plate it had "Happy Birthday" in chocolate and of course the requisite candle. There was simply nothing wrong with this place. One cool thing - it's a tipless restaurant - all inclusive in the prices. What we spent was identical to what I think we would have paid if we were to add a tip!

By far my favorite restaurant in NYC, cannot wait for the next time..... From the Negroni at the bar while waiting for my table to the beautifully prepared pasta appetizers to the divine roasted pig. this is a true Roman food experience. Amazing wine list and impeccable service.....

As mentioned in previous reviews, the service and wine list are outstanding. The malfatti pasta with the suckling pig bits was to die for, many appetizers were interesting, yummy desserts but I was very disappointed in the signature roasted suckling pig. It was very dry. Never mind, there are many other good choices. We ordered a flight of grappas which uncovered a new favorite. Maialino is still a delicious choice for dinner and the back of the restaurant is quiet enough for conversation.

What an amazing dining experience. We entered the restaurant without a reservation because they were full, but asked if they could fit in a party of two. They did, thank goodness. It turned out to be our new favorite restaurant in NYC. Our wait staff, Carlos, was wonderful. He made excellent recommendations ...and now I will make them for you. The fish stew(octopus) was excellent, as was the suckling pig and carrot salad. The tiramisu, however, was the best in the world ever anywhere - hands down, bar none!! Matter of fact, everyone should just go straight for the tiramisu ...and have two!! Also, ask for Carlos, because his southern charm in NYC cannot be beat!

This place is amazing! Have had many amazing meals here over the years. The food has always been delicious, the service impeccable and wine/cocktails good too. I'd like to give a special shout out to Julia Roselin and Ingrid Baptiste for their awesome hospitality.

If I could give 4 1/2 stars, I would. Everything was quite good-- service, pace, food -- but I had to send my poached eggs with sunchokes back because the sunchokes were cold. They immediately took care of it and my meal was much warmer when it reappeared. My friends had the egg white frittata and the soft scrambled eggs, which they loved and were perfectly cooked. We also got the toffee brioche, pistachio roll and banana loaf, which we were great. The brioche was a bit expensive for what you got -- it was quite small -- but the banana loaf is quite large. We also got the Spritzone classico - which is a great deal when you have 4 people (or even 3) and the flavor was really nice. I am looking forward to going again and trying some of the other dishes.

We celebrated a birthday here recently in the private dining room. First, the atmosphere is cozy and energetic at the same time. The staff are friendly and eager to serve and they serve you well. The bar has a wide selection of cocktails and wines. The food is presented elegantly and is delicious!

We have been here many times before, usually once every 2-3 months. Being an Union Sq Group restaurants, the service quality has always been professional and dependable. Just came here 2 nights ago. The restaurant accomodated my request for a certain type of table (thank you!). I was seated before my wife joined me. Ordered a glass of bubbly. The server poured it so fast the bubbles was still foaming when she walked away. She didn't offer me to taste a little first, which is normally the case in any Danny Meyer restaurants. When the bubbles settled I saw that it was a glass that may been half filled. While trying to flag down the server (or anyone), my wife called and I was distracted and took a sip from the glass. I shouldn't have done that so I did not enquire if the portion had gotten smaller. Our engagement with the sommolier was good; she was personable, knowledgeable, pleasant. My wife and I ordered a pasta dish each before the main course. We were promptly given a small plate each, to which I asked why and the server didn't realize we wanted our own order. No big deal. Our Sea Bass for 2 was delicious!!! My wife couldn't finish her portion so we asked the server to pack it up. She never came back with our leftovers. While taking orders for desert, she also did not ask if we wanted any after dinner drinks or coffee/tea. I had gotten leftovers from Maialino from previous visits (where they bring it in a small shopping bag). But this time it never happened and both my wife and I also forgot about it. We wondered if it was ever packed up. We were very surprise to have gotten such level of service at Maialino. We would come back for the food, and will be weary of the service.

Restaurant was packed so service was hit and miss. Surprised by prices - the entree size ragu pasta was quite small for $32 but consider $48 to be excessive for larger serve of bolognese pasta. We had prosciutto and mozzarella for starters and it was nice enough- nothing else on the plate though. We then ordered ragu bolognese which was very nice but, as indicated, hardly worth the price. We've been here before and prices seem to have risen a bit. Have to praise the tiramisu though as it was sensational! Gelato and sorbet didn't hit the mark for me. Overall, a tad disappointing and quite pricey. 'Gratuity included' scenario is good marketing but...

It’s a nice restaurant in a nice hotel. Lovely team the quality of food is real Italian if u are into Italian cuisine. The the wine selection is great, slow service but acceptable still..

My wife and I visited for dinner with my son and his wife and our 2 1/2 year old grandson. We were celebrating my birthday. We have been to Maialino before and this was another chance to experience the excellent Maialan Forno (Slow roasted suckling pig & rosemary potatoes), which my wife and I shared. My son, had the Malfatti (braised suckling pig and arugula) pasta, and my daughter in law had spaghetti carbonnara (black pepper, guanciali and egg. ALL were excellently prepared and very tasteful. We kept our grandson happy and quiet (for a 2 year old) with spaghetti with butter and cheese topping. For desert my wife ordered Tiramisu. My son and I ordered the Apple Crumb Crostata (brown sugar bourbon gelato) and my daughter in law had the assorted cookies. A comment about the Tiramisu. The presentation didn't include the traditional lady fingers and the coffee flavor wasn't there - a poor imitation of the traditional Taramisu - sadly disappointing for a restaurant of this quality and price point. Overall, our server Fiona was excellent as was everyone who served us.

I've been to many Danny Meyer restaurants over many years. I hadn't been to Maialino in at least a year, and so was excited to be out of the house for an "adult" dinner without my 4 year old. While I am happy to report that the food at Maialino was as tasty as ever, the service was unacceptably indifferent and almost forgetful. After taking our orders, and pouring our wine, we never saw the server again until we reminded him that our pasta course, and then our main course hadn't been served after an uncomfortably long time between courses. No other staff ever stopped by to ask if we needed anything. We had to ask for the most routine aspects of food service, almost as if the waiter forgot that he had to actually bring us the food from the kitchen. We ordered ice cream and espresso for dessert. We finished the ice cream and the server appeared, to ask if we still wanted our espresso. We declined. Because gratuities are included in the increased pricing at Danny Meyer restaurants, there was no opportunity to express our thanks or in this case, disappointment with the service. I had a similarly disappointing experience at the relocated Union Square Cafe last year. So much for having written a book on hospitality. Union Square Hospitality Group has lost its way.

Maialino on Gramercy Park is informal, lively and with excellent food. We did the brunch - eggs, pasta - the Cacio Pepe is fabulous as is the Carbonara. Tiramisu was huge. Excellent service. A treat.

Stopped in here during a quick trip into the city to meet up with a friend. It's a great place to go and have a few drinks. We also ordered a few plates to share. Food and wine were all great. The restaurant is in the beautiful Gramercy Park Hotel, and makes for a very special place to grab a drink or have a meal. It's reasonably expensive but nice enough to justify the price. Highly recommend.

Amazing taste experience that just tops it all! Rather than select from the menu, we ask the chef, Jason Pfeifer to send a 5-course meal for the entire table. NEVER a disappointment - not one course, not ever. Always something fresh and delightful. One of the best restaurants in NYC and that says a lot! We are return offenders :) even went there for New Years Eve.

Enjoyed our brekky so much we returned for another the morning after! Service was very good, waiter and kitchen accomodated all my dietary needs. Nice ambiance inside and out! Will return!

Not sure if it was because Maialino was not busy as it was a Saturday night in the city on Labor Day week end, but we had the best time and the best meal at our neighborhood Gramercy go-to- restaurant !!! We were warmly greeted by the Maitre D, Meredith who generously offered to help me get reservations in the future. We then had the best server. Daniel was helpful, attentive, kind, personable and efficient. Daniel made perfect wine recommendations, and clearly knew what hospitality was about. He divided two of our courses on different plates when I told him we would be sharing, without my even asking. He took great care in every aspect of our meal and was on point throughout the entire evening. The INSALATA, salad with anchovies and breadcrumbs was fantastic as was the tonnarelli cacio e pepe and the orata. My husband enjoyed the chili flavored chicken which was really very tasty and cooked to perfection. All in all a perfect evening. Thank you to Daniel, to Meredith and to Chef for a great time!

The scrambled eggs with Pecorino and black pepper is melt in your mouth delicious. The Ricotta Pancakes are light, fluffy, and divine. I have been here twice and loved the food. The food is subtle, delectable, and also moreish. Love this place.

The restaurant lacks vibrantly saturated character, evident within the rest of the hotel. The service is superbly slow and timid…as if unsure of its function. The food is why you go to Maialino; as the restaurant aesthetic is blurred in visitors minds, as ‘another’ New York eatery. Maialino’s has a Prix-Fixe menu for $48, which is quite a bargain considering their considerably quality and quantity-laden offerings. I had the choice of any Antipasto, Main dish, and an option of 3 different desserts. I began with Burrata, with toasted Filone & Olio Freso. My main Penne Doppla Rigatura pasta dish was incredible. The tart taste if the cheese, contributed to the extensive taste experience. It’s filling, and worth every cent and carb-loaded mouthful.

Very nice venue, casually elegant and comfortably welcoming. Non tipping restaurant. Service is ok. The quality of the ingredients is good and, overall, the food is average. There's nothing authentic italian on the menu, apart from some words of the ingredients, not even revised Italian to be honest. Way overpriced for what the menu offers, including the wines (nice selection but definitely pricier than other places). In the end, if you like a nice restaurant to casually impress someone, go to Maialino, otherwise, if you want to eat good and authentic Italian food go somewhere else.

The Maialino is a fantastic Italian restaurant that offers weekdays a fabulous breakfast and on weekends a great brunch. We stayed at the Gramercy Park Hotel so naturally we tried the Maialino Restaurant for breakfast. Service was great and the breakfast fabulous. Small choices but different than to regular breakfast places. All food dishes were delicious. Totally recommend this breakfast place. Good thing gratuity is already included in the prices and clearly marked on the menu.

Maialino has always impressed us, and we selected it for my parents 50th anniversary meal when they visited nyc. Pasta is always perfect, but everything we tried was excellent. My favourite salad ever is here and I had to order a second one as everyone liked it so much. It’s not inexpensive but worth it. Service is very good. My only gripe is that it was cold with ac blowing on us and my mom and I had to keep our jackets on.

Our party of 7 really enjoyed our Sunday brunch at Maialino. The reception and reservation team were a delight to work with and deserve a special shout out for their patience in dealing with my ever-changing party size. It's a fairly large space with lots of tables available for groups of 6 or more. Decor is what? Urban farmhouse/industrial chic? Something like that... anyway it's comfortable with an easygoing elegance, nothing overly fussy. The food is very good and we started with a pastry basket for the table. HIghly recommend the cinnamon bun if you have to choose just one. I loved my soft scrambled eggs carbonara but the real star of the brunch choices was the ricotta pancakes served with jam and a maple syrup - mains like these also come with sides including a very nice seasonal fruit, a savory chicken sausage and a hefty pancetta. I thought our service was very good, attentive without being overbearing. Staff was informative and professional. Water and coffee refills were monitored carefully and the runners always made sure to check with the guest before whisking their plate away. With very light alcohol consumption, I would estimate about $40-50 per person at brunch.

A great spot for any meal but know it is going to take some time for it all to happen. This is not a bad thing, but be prepared. Food is great and there is great people watching here (local celebs). Their scrambled eggs in the am are the best.

One of the reasons we decided to stay at the Gramercy Park Hotel was because we really wanted to have dinner here on our first night in New York! We had a reservation for 7:30 PM and just walked through the hotel lobby over to the restaurant’s entrance. We saw a lot of this very cool restaurant as we were seated in the back room beside a window. The server was very friendly and helpful. When I asked him for a cocktail suggestion, he told me about the seasonal “Painkiller” which I tried and really enjoyed. My husband and I split a radicchio salad. He ordered a burrata and I tried the smaller size fettuccini alla Bolognese which had one of the best sauces I’ve ever tasted!

Was excited to visit Maialino after not dining there for several years. This was at a new location. Remembered many enjoyable years at the Gramercy Park Hotel. However, this new location and ambiance doesn’t quite match in the menu selection, level of service or special surroundings we enjoyed before. Although glad we visited, it’s time to move on…sadly.

Good food and spectacular italian wine list. We come here every time we are in NYC. Friendly staff and nice design. A little bit pricey.

We went to the Colonial Zone with friends and visited the Italian restaurant Maialino, which we arrived at on recommendation. The chef came out to the room and offered us a special pasta with onion-based meat (I don't remember the name), just spectacular! We also tried some truffle meat taquitos, everything was excellent. The chef, Italian and very friendly, made the experience even better. We all came out super happy. It's a new restaurant and certainly a place to come back.

Let me start by saying in the past We have loved all of Danny Mayer’s restaurants. The staff is lovely and the setting is beautifully executed. Our experience tonight was just inexplicable. We arrived early because we were taking people for a business dinner. I purposefully had asked for a window table so we could hear. We arrived 15 minutes early. We waited for 45 minutes because the people at the table were slow to leave. They paid their bill and still did not leave. The staff refused to say anything. We were shown to a booth which was uncomfortable. We moved to a table in the back that was so loud we couldn’t hear the waiter. I am really angry that after all this no one offered us the window table but it was given to some other party. We suffered through a two hour meal with the noisiest people on either side of us. To add insult to injury the one dish we looked forward to ordering was sold out by the time we were seated . You have to be kidding. I had a salad which was very difficult to eat in company because the leaves were so big- strike one. My husband warned the waiter that he would return his duck if it wasn’t well cooked . He returned his flash fried raw duck. Strike two.We were not offered a drink , a dessert , not one consideration so we ordered a plate of cookies for dessert which had been thrown onto a plate. The bill arrived and for 400 dollars I had the pleasure of treating my friends to one of the most embarrassing and stressful meals I have ever had in New York. Strike three.Too bad. My husband is a U of C alumni and likes to support Danny Mayer. We were all regretting not going to shake shack or better yet La Bernadin. I have a feeling this is a neighborhood watering hole. Well the good news is I will never wait for a table I reserved again for the meal that wasn’t available. Not for me. Certainly not worth the trip downtown.

I have been to this restaurant a few times and have always had great experiences, but my most recent visit didn’t provide the same great experience. My food was great, but it was so slow! Our waiter was waiting on far too many people, causing him to be over-whelmed, and forget about us. It took him about 30 minutes to take our dinner orders, and even longer for the food to actually come. Our appetizers arrived about 45 minutes-1 hour after we ordered them. Our entrees arrived about 30 minutes after we finished our appetizers. Our appetizers were decent, but nothing special. We ordered tomatoes and Mozzarella and fried vegetables. My entree was amazing though! I had the Bolognese pasta and loved it! The drinks were also amazing! We got Preseco and red wine which were both great! Since it was my birthday they sent me free drinks which was very nice of them. They initially charged us for the drinks they sent, but once we said something to them about it they took them off the bill. Tip is included in the bill which I think makes the service worse since servers know they will be getting a tip no matter what. The also sent us free desserts which was kind of them. I really enjoyed my entree and drinks, but the long waits were super annoying. I will probably come back, but if the slow service continues I won’t come back. This restaurant is quite pricey, so I except to have a great experience. Upscale restaurants like this one are usually slow, but it seemed unreasonably slow when we went.

We ate as a group of 7, it took s little time to order our drinks and starters which was a little frustrating. The waiting staff however were lovely, knowledgable and diligent. We shared entrees which were fine but not great. My main was Maialino al Forno it sounded great, slow roast suckling pig with rosemary potatoes. The suckling pig was very generous in size (massive) and had crackling but the other parts of the meat were super well done, rather than falling off the bone it was pretty well done. Rosemary potatoes were fine but meat was served with a thin tomatoe based sauce in a pool on the plate, not sure why as made potatoes soggy and did not add to dish, I think this could do with some refining!

I was with a party of 12 in their comfortable private room. Te pre-ordered menu was served family style. All of the courses were excellent, as was the wine. The restaurant itself seemed crowded and noisy.

I have always liked this place: good service, good atmosphere, great food... until this time. I went there for lunch. From the start things the host and the waiting staff seemed overwhelmed. Service was slow and more importantly the food, which is used to love was ... average. My friend had the trout filet (it looked like deep-fried and she described it as “OK”). I had the pasta carbonara. Put it this way, possibly the worst carbonara I have ever had. The serving was very small (main dish to be clear) and the pasta so salty I could barely eat them. I had a glass of white wine which was fine, again the serving was so small it looked like someone had taken a few sips before serving it! This was disappointing. I like the place, it’s location and the service staff, but the food has taken a toll; hopefully temporarily.

Monday evening walked in for dinner without a reservation and got a good table by the window in the back part of the dining room. We felt this was good for conversation as it was away from the bar and the larger areas of the dining room. All our dishes were well prepared, with the sauce for the red fish, light and buttery, and the pasta with blood sausage ragu being the highlights. Our server was very pleasant and had good insights on all the dishes. Not looking for a big meal the "primi" size pasta was enough for an entree. We did have starters, the bread with beans in olive oil was excellent. Topped it off with tiramisu that was really light and creamy. Over all a good experience on our first visit.

We stayed at the Gramercy Park Hotel so went here for breakfast. I had a cappuccino - best since Rome! Also the poached eggs on a grilled corn hash and hubby had granola and we shared a fruit bowl. All was very fresh and very delicious. Only gave a 4 star because the initial service was indifferent at best. One waiter saved the day about midway into our experience. Most of the staff acts like they would rather be somewhere else. So far this has been the rule rather than the exception at these restaurants that do not allow tipping. I guess they get paid anyway so no need to try......

This restaurant was recommended by a foodie friend when he found out that I love Roman Italian food. We booked lunch on a Sunday but for past noon when they recommence selling pasta dishes. And I am so glad we did. The restaurant is in the Grammercy Hotel which gives it a weird mix of patrons. but the food was sensational. We ordered quite a few things and I must confess that we finished the lot. From a burrata starter to cacio e pepe to chicken scallopini, this meal was ridiculously good. I loved every morsel on my plate and would have gladly eaten the whole lot again. The blueberry corn dessert was out of this world, too. It's a no tipping restaurant which may explain why the price seems high to some people, but for me, it just meant pleasant servers, nothing over the top, and quality food that made my whole day. I really can't recommend it enough.

We visited on a Sunday evening for an early 5:30 reservation. We are emphasizing this in case the chef and kitchen staff are compromised on a Sunday. We began with their signature pasta with suckling pig. The entree was unacceptable because the pork had been microwaved so much that it was very tough. Suckling pig pork normally is tender and basically falls off the bone if current. Our next course, the Carbonara, was so very very salty that we sent it back; collected the bill and departed the restaurant. We picked this restaurant because of it's favorable rating. Based on our personal experience we would caution that the reviews are generous in praise. Perhaps we just hit this place on a night when the kitchen crew was compromised. A completely unacceptable meal presentation !!! Our server, JB, was very attentive and professional in her service.

Our meal at Maialino was the kind of food that you would wish to eat day after day, but tasted so divinely that you wouldn’t want to spoil the specialness of it. It was THAT GOOD. Did not sample everyone’s selection at the table, but my husband’s blueberry ricotta pancakes were exquisite… Almost as good as the summer angolotti pasta that I ordered. Kicking myself that I did not take note of the stuffing… It was savory with a bit of sweetness… Ricotta and some squash and maybe sun-dried tomatoes as I recall. The service was lovely as well. Our young waiter was gracious and whip-smart. Thanks to all.

Fantastic food and service - 3 course lunch prix fix is phenomenal value. Will be back soon as I can !

We made our reservation a month ahead of time and assumed it would be a great experience. We were wrong. The food was unremarkable to bad (case in point, the Amatriciana was the second worst I've ever had), there was a lack of attention to detail - the salad arrived with no dressing; service was not great, flagging down our server was an athletic feat. Our wine had past its prime (although the manager came over and handled that nicely and confirmed that, indeed, it had past it's peak and was off). It was also very loud and expensive. I won't be back.

Only had a small meal here but must say the service was fantastic. Definitely made me want to come back!

Were staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel and made the mistake of having breakfast here. Writing this so others don't make the mistake. The food was very rich and overdone for breakfast and Very, very expensive. We were taken to a table in the very back room and hoped to eat and be on our way. This is not the place to grab a bite. The next day we realized that there are lots of breakfast places within a short walk of the hotel and did not return.

Just did lunch with the family. Fresh ingredients make each dish sing; from the bread, focaccia that come out with quality EVOO, every plate exudes quality. Spectacular burrata as well as an exquisite fig & ricotta crostini. The pasta dishes; bucatini amatriciana with guanciale, tonarelli cacio e pepe & maltagliati with suckling pig....all top notch. My son has the porchetta panini and we finished with a chocolate almond sundae was outstanding! Of course espressos & hot chocolate on a cold day hit the spot too. Also, it’s a no tip establishment so the price includes gratuities. Enjoy!
Extraordinary food
I was so impressed by this restaurant. Old friends made the reservation and I had no expectations. We ate family style and everything was superb. Between five of us we had 2 salads a couple of appetizers, 2 pastas and a larger order of the Maialino (suckling pig). Considering the name of the restaurant, it was no surprise that the eponymous dish was the standout, but everything was basically the equal. I LOVED the artichokes. The pastas were all amazing. There was a generous amount of pig left over, they said it served 3-4, but I'd say 6 easily. ALSO THE BREAD! (I live in California, where we just don't get bread that good very often) My only negative thought is that this is a big and loud restaurant, not great for talking across a table
