My first visit was a couple of weeks ago for breakfast. The omelet was superb -- soft and fluffy and filled with scrumptious mushrooms. I really liked the ambience too with the wide wooden floorboards, brick wall, wooden bar and railings, and neat lamps. My second visit occurred this weekend for dinner. The food was equally fine. Moreover, notwithstanding the presence of two large groups, there was ample seating available and the service was outstanding. The place is cozy, but there were six or eight persons busily moving about, watching over tables, bringing plates, clearing plates, and generally doing what well-trained waiters do to make a meal a very pleasant experience. Bravo to the persons in the kitchen too. An overall wonderful time.

Excellent! We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday after walking the high line. We ate outside, which was lovely. Grilled salmon with fennel was perfect as was the lasagna. Service was friendly and prompt.

This open air restaurant in the village is a great spot for a summertime lunch. Their pizza is very tasty and the crust is perfect. Everyone enjoyed their main course and they have a good selection of Italian wines. The service was good and the atmosphere was airy and fun.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. I had a grilled calamari salad, which was delicious, and he had a seared tuna salad. We were very pleased with both of our lunches. The service was friendly, and we liked the reclaimed artifacts inside.

The food at this vibrant, lively restaurant is terrific and the menu interesting (my polenta and sausage appetizer was great). It is not the right setting for a business dinner because it can be loud (and cash only) but works very well for a group of friends getting together.

In a charming neighborhood, Malaparte is the perfect dinner spot. Pizza is delicious, pasta as well, and you have some good wine choices that are not too pricey. Staff is attentive, and it still has the quaint charm of only taking reservations on the phone.

Cute, casual, and great italian places. Reasonably priced, with the possibility to sit outside during the summer ! Also a good option for weekend brunch.

I'll start off by saying that the food was pretty good and the waiters were nice. I got the meat bolognese and would recommend it. The atmosphere was lovely, very cozy and the tables weren't crammed together. That being said, we made a reservation for 6 (and even called twice to make sure) and when we got there they had completely just not put it through, didn't apologize, and the manager/person who handles those was rude about it. Can't give a place four or five stars with that kind of attitude.

Feels like a family business and runs like one too. Very efficient service, friendly and the food is the hero, just the way it should be. No fuss. They've got an ATM inside too, for good reason. They only accept cash.

This was our second time at this restaurant and we loved it! The place is very cozy and intime. The service was incredible and friendly:) specially Galeb--he treated us wonderfully well. The food is authentic Italian and it is delicious. We recommend the spaghetti alla carbonara and the apple strudel, but I believe that all the dishes are excellent. We can't wait to return on our next trip to NYC

My experience was great! The food was really good..... and I live in Italy! The pizza with porcini and truffles was amazing! All of us ordered different dishes and I tried the "branzino" and the "tagliata" they were all excellent! The Italians who are running the restaurant are very kind and not snobbish like other places I went to. I would definitively go back!

Stumbled upon this little place by accident after a tiring morning that hadn’t gone to plan. Had given up hope of good food and found it in desperation. But the food was AMAZING. Truffle and mushroom pizza and fennel and rocket salad. Plus pasta pesto for fussy 10 year old. Could have been any more tasty or fresh.

I have had the pleasure of eating here a couple of times now. It is one of those restaurants that never disappoints you. The outside sitting area is very romantic and quite. The service is perfect. Every time i go i always order the spinach/artichoke lasagna, it is simply amazing!!! Today, from the specials i had the portobello truffle pasta which was delicious. Always remember that is a cash only restaurant, but they also have an atm inside.

Tasty food , attentive fast service unique decoration and reasonable prices . If you like Italian food make sure you visit there !!

Came here with a toddler for dinner. Best thing was the super friendly service by real Italians, extremely conscious of and patient with our child. Food was not bad also....not quite like mamma used to make but approaching. Portions healthy, ambience rustically pleasant.

I'm very surprised by some of the negative comments. I loved this restaurant. It is authentic Italian - rare in nyc. The quality of the food was outstanding and the service quick and efficient. It's noisy and chaotic (just like Italy!) and that's it's charm.

We found this restaurant after walking the highline. The waiters were friendly and paid attention to our dietary issues- no dairy. We had a special pizza with no cheese and with incredible porcini mushrooms and artichoke hearts. The calamari and salad was great. It was one of our best meals in NYC.

My wife's favourite restaurant on our New York visit. No formality, close to other diners but great atmosphere and excellent bistro type food and friendly service. See NY as the local s see it.

We went to the Rolling Stones Exhibitionism down in the West Village near the Hudson. Walking the neighborhood is another NYC awakening. Local. Residential. Westbeth Arts Community. Malaparte. Not a lot of folks there for lunch, so we had full attention of bartender, server and conversationalist Dominio. We also met restaurant owner and designer who chatted about the history and artistic development of the space. Brick. Repurposed crown moulding sparsely placed as back bar, wine racks and artistic focus. Unique angles and corners all around. Warm. Inviting. Reservations are hand-scribed in a large, well-worn ledger on the bar. The menu is direct and focused. Honest. I had Spaghetti all Chitarra. Fresh. Hand-made pasta. Simple. My wife had Sloppy Giovanni ... fun, flavorful, filling. A selection of Italian wines from many regions of the country....not an impressive selection but certainly serves to satisfy the experience. Get off the beaten path and head down to the River. These guys are for real.

We all had a fabulous dinner. Cozy and quaint ambiance and wait staff were perfect. Excellent wine list too. We stopped in after walking the High Line. A little out of the way but worth the walk. They get busy so make sure to reserve in advance.

Very nice pasta!! A must!! We went there with the family and it was incredible. The place is small though, so you'll have to book a table in advance.

We had an enjoyable night here - good meals, friendly service in that charming Italian way, and located in an interesting neighbourhood. In terms of ambience, it is simply furnished and very noisy and bustling inside. We moved to an outside table which was lovely on a summer's night and you could be heard without shouting. Very reasonably priced; you can see why it is always busy.

No booking unless you are a group of 8plus. Cash only. There is a cash machine in the restaurant. Delicious generous sized portion of grilled calamari. Can recommend a delicious spaghetti carbonara, a fish special pasta ( might have been just one day ) and rigatoni porcini dish. All fresh. Good place. Good value. 3rd visit and a favourite for taste and value. Great area to wander through.

This is a local secret and hidden in the streets of the West Village. The fresh pasta, pizza, fish, desserts - every thing is delicious and makes you feel like you are actually in Italy. The truffle pizza is a highlight. Just note - as other reviewers say - it is always busy around dinner time (because the food is so good) and the restaurant is small, so go early if you want a guaranteed table.

Great Italian food in the west village. The pasta is homemade. The prices are very reasonable ($15ish for dinner). The restaurant is cash only as a heads up. Really fun atmosphere!

A great experience. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed eating there. Lovely, tasty food served by down to earth friendly staff. Perfect.

Malaparte [definitely] has –the most numerous- and terrific Mussels in a light, marinara sauce (just waiting to be soaked up) with their rustic, Panini slices. Their fantastic (personal-size) pizzas have several toppings of choice. We opted for the –traditional- Margarita (Mozzarella & Tomato Sauce) and the Prosciutto, Cheese and Arugula: great! The spaghetti with pesto was maybe “too pesto-y” but well served and tasty. The atmosphere is like a family hang-out: small, intimate and they also have a curb-side seating area. Their red, Italian wine is the drink of choice for this type of meal and for dessert: the Tiramisu. The service is excellent: vibrant young waiters just wanting to please you, and even though the [Cash-Only] sign always hits me in the face as I approach a restaurant (let’s face it, even a McDonalds is “plastic-friendly”), the prices fit the pocket.

Enjoyable experience. Great service and good food. We had not booked but were made very welcome. As a previous reviewer advised, one couple had a shared pizza to which a salad was added. Desserts delicious, Would recommend.

But ask them to serve on greens not beans!! The lasagne is to die for. Been here twice and will definitely go back.

Great pizza, the pasta dishes were very good. We could not stop eating the pasta, they were all so yummy. Wine selection was nice and a good value. Recommend this place for a party for two or a group.

After seeing a show on broadway we took a taxi to get away from the busy streets to the West Village. We stumbled upon this cozy and cool spot, it was late but we had no problem getting served, we had a nice bottle of wine and a fabulous pizza. Overall the experience was a great end to an already great night! I would highly recommend this place!

The pizza here was bland, no sauce, cheese falling off, grease or oil dripping down my arm. If they can’t do better than this, don’t serve pizza at all. My friend and I each had a different pizza and we both agreed - #fail. There are too many good Italian spots in NY to waste time here. Only ate here because we wanted to be near the Whitney and literally every other place in the area was booked (which says it all right there),

Malaparte, located at 753 Washington Street at Bethune is a cozy and comfortable neighborhood restaurant we discovered by accident walking along the park. Everything in the place is simple and comfortable. The wait staff all come from Italy. The food is fresh and cooked with care. The restaurant has a definite rustic feel to it without being peasanty. We ate a Sunday brunch and then a dinner meal during the week. The place only takes cash, but there is an ATM inside. The menu is not overly ambitious but it is excellent. For brunch we had three entrees--Lasagna Bolognese, Spaghetti Carbonara, and a special of ravioli, We also had Tiramisu for dessert. The Tiramisu is arguably the BEST in NEW YORK CITY. With an Oreo crust and lightness it is heavenly. We ate it twice. A great signature dessert for this restaurant. On our second visit, we had the special of mixed seafood cooked in parchment. Wow. Great meal. The prices are reasonable. I believe for three people we spent between 75 and 100 dollars--but that was for three entrees and three desserts. The other dessert that was really good was the apple strudel. The restaurant is open from 1730 to midnight Monday through Friday. Brunch on Sat and Sun is from 1200 to 1600. On our next trip to NYC we will definitely come back. This was a great, surprising find. Very definitely we felt that the food and service was great value for money.

I lived in New York for 11 years but only found Malaparte three years ago when visiting for Thanksgiving, and really wish I'd known about it earlier. We were staying at The Jane Hotel and needed to find somewhere close one evening as it was dumping down with rain. Malaparte was full but they squeezed us in at a table by the door, which wasn't the warmest place but that was quickly forgotten as we tasted the food; we had found a new favourite. The olive oil with crusty bread that they serve is perfect, as good as any I've had in Italy. All the meals are great, the pizzas and pastas are standouts. Excellent, reasonably priced wine list, love the primitivo wine. The service has always been friendly and efficient. It's now become a tradition that we round off each trip to New York by eating at Malaparte before heading for the airport. Highly recommended, just wish I could visit more often.

Are an early dinner here on a Wednesday night and the place was packed—like the good times of pre-pandemic! Loved the warm vibes and also just seeing people out and about again. A very reasonably priced wine list with lots of options to choose from. Started with a burrata to share and then each of us ordered a pasta dish which were ample portions of fresh goodness. Definitely really good food at a reasonable price—not always an easy thing ti find especially in that neighborhood. It’s not piles of food, but nobody’s leaving hungry for sure! Dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake (yeah, it’s really good) and the chocolate mousse. Wouldn’t recommend for a date or when you want to be romantic—but perfect for any time you want solid Italian food for a nice dinner between friends.

Wow, wow, wow. Is all I can say about this amazing Italian restaurant. It's a very small intimate restaurant that makes you feel as if you have some how time traveled to Italy to have lunch. The food was so fresh and tasty. Home made pasta, fresh salads with the perfect amount of everything. My sisters and I were never rushed and our waiter was never to far way. I'm not going to lie but having a very handsome waiter from Rome added to our dinning experience.

Nice place to eat, great location (we sat outside). Food was very good (we had the rootbeet salad and pizza) and staff very friendly. Except for the doorlady who made (implicitly and explicitly) sure that we rushed through dinner and coffee so she could reissue the table to other people. Just over an hour in and out (including starters and coffee afterwards).

Great food, we ordered pizza and carbonara it was really tasty perfectly cooked- price was very fair.

Stopped into this restaurant before a night out in the city. Lively atmosphere and friendly staff. Limited but superb menu. Bronzino was very well done.

Italian waiters, authentic Italian food that tasted great, reasonable prices, and a good wine list. Nothing fancy, but just great affordable food

Food is quite yummy. I love squid and this was very tasty on some greens. Pizza really good though I’m not a fan of white pizza so will order red one next time. Service is a bit rough around the edges ie they won’t pour beer to your cup. And servers may seem rude but I’m thinking it could be the culture but I might be mistaken. Just don’t expect smiles. It’s a very small place with limited seating so avoid prime hours. I left around prime time at around 7p which is perfect. Would make sense to come weekdays as well. Dining during weekends and you’re fighting with crowds which even in post pandemic times, I like to avoid.

My husband & I went here after reading lots of great reviews. The place itself is cute, in lovely location - it seemed very promising. We had the burrata and arugula which was fine. Then we ordered the seafood pasta special, which the server recommended. It was super gross, overlooked noodles drenched in tomato sauce with chewy squid and mussels that make you fear for your life. I tried a mussel and singled to my husband that I didn't think it was safe to eat. We should have sent it back but we were too embarrassed.

Great Service. Take Out Quality Pasta. Would not come back but the service was excellent and the location is great and a nice area to walk in.

We always stay now at The Jane when we come to New York to go to the Met, and the last time we visited, they recommended this restaurant...we got in late, it was almost 10 after a long day dealing with airports and I was starving! What a wonderful find. We returned again on our last night. Because it was our second visit we were welcomed like old friends. The food was superb, the atmosphere, even when packed, was just so inviting. Our second visit we were able to sit outside and it seemed that everyone, staff, other patrons, even those walking past with their dogs were friendly. Wine, bread, pasta, salad- no complaint with any of it. I can't wait to go back again... They don't take credit card, so carry cash if you can, otherwise there is an ATM at the back of the restaurant...

We have been here with friends and that night started to heavy rain. Menu is good even if it has not too much choice. Service has been OK until it started to rain and we started to get wet. We ask a new table and they moved us on another outside table even though there were table available inside...

I don't get it... Out of the thousands of Italian restaurants in Nyc, customers pick your restaurant to visit and the staff is aloof and rude, often talking amongst themselves. Food is good with a limited menu, but the obnoxious service makes it an uncomfortable evening. Constantly having to wave down the waiter, he forgets to bring things, talk about you in Italian to other servers, just so rude!!! Go somewhere they'll appreciate your being a customer! Really awful service!!!

Had a very late lunch here - almost 4:00 and we had to leave by 6, so we would not pose a challenge to the dinner crowd. The place was empty but the Hostess looked appauled when I said we had no reservation. It was clear all her reservations were for 6, but she still looked miffed that we dared to walk in. I have a baby and requested a simple pasta and vegetable dish for him and this also was met with shock and an assertion that "we don't play around with our recipies". I made clear that we would not danage their artistic integrity, but baby needed something simple and she stormed off. The food was OK but despite being a small place with few dinners, getting the wait staff to attend to us was challenging. To top it all off, they do not accept credit cards - for no apparent reason. Its 2013 folks - get with the program! Not to be repeated.

This is a low key West Village spot that specializes in Italian food. The tables spill out on the sidewalk which was nice for a warm night. The waiter suggested I try the spaghetti alla carbonara and it was a good choice. Wine prices are reasonable. The menu in the restaurant has more selections than the online one, even accounting for the specials. Bring cash - they do not take credit cards.

So, we have been coming here many many times. But, I have to say, the service is just beyond miserable. The Italian waiters have a sense of entitlement that is unprecedented in this industry. We have also been overcharged (7 more beers that we didn't drink with a mandatory 20 percent tip). The Spanish waiter, quite frankly, is the only that I wouldn't fire. Here's a pic to the most aggressive of them all.

After walking The High Line in New York, we were looking for somewhere cool and reasonably quiet for a quick lunch. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Our food was delivered quickly - very fresh frittata and salad with a delicious dressing. It's a great little place and I'd love to go back!

This is a place full of warmth and passion in the heart of the west village neighbourhood. All staff are Italian and express a passionate energy throughout the place. We loved all starters (calamari, various salads) and their fish dishes. The only thing we didn't love was the Tagliata steak.

While in Chelsea, stopped by for an unplanned lunch and was captivated by perfectly executed Italian food. The truffle pizza was the best I've had, and I've had many with exposure to many of Italy's great restaurants. So nice to know that this level of quality is available near The Whitney, smack between upscale boutiques and architecturally-interesting brownstones. It's a great New York neighborhood, and this restaurant has all the intimacy, originality and flavor of a fine Roman trattoria.

Stopped by one day while walking the "Highline" everything was on point. Nice staff and friendly service. A little tight quarters, but the good food makes up for it... Give it a try !

Went there in a party of five and glad we could reserve (need a party of four I think) because the place was packed by 7pm on a week night. The staff were great - friendly and efficient. The place is casual, noisy and bustling. The food was very good, from appetizers to main courses. The location is good because it is not on a main thoroughfare, at least by downtown standards. Medium priced for the Village. A nice all around experience.

Small Italian restaurant-trattoria on Washington street in the West Village with rustic and charming atmosphere, friendly and excellent service and good Italian food They offer daily specials with very nice menu of rustic and delicious pizzas, pasta and Italian entrees, and good wine. Their best dish, Grilled Sardines. Unfortunately, they don't offer Sardines every day. Their service is vey good and is an excellent place to dine with friends and family. I never had a bad meal here!!! Once you become a local and tried all their dishes, go for the daily specials and keep going! Unless you go early be prepared to wait!! It's an excellent choice for early dinner on any day or late meal! I highly recommend it!

Stopped in for a late dinner after work on a Monday and despite it being super busy we were seated immediately. Like any NYC restaurant it's a smaller place with close tables but we didn't feel packed in like sardines. Efficient wait staff although not overly friendly (some more than others). I had the porcini pasta with truffle oil which was super fresh and really good. My husband had one of the daily specials; a pasta with salmon which was also very good. Both of our pasta dishes were around $17 and after a glass of wine for me and a beer for the hubby our bill was $50- not bad for a great dinner. Service was also fast but not rushed. Cash only is not uncommon so wasn't a problem for us. I'm sure we will return as we had a nice experience and it's close to where I work.

Family went to The Rolling Stones exhibit and then dinner. We started with grilled calamari salad, tuna and avocado and polenta with wild mushrooms. For main menu we had lasagna, grilled swordfish and spaghetti with clams. Top it off with some good Barlo. Great food, but service was a little slow. The place is small and can get crowded.

We parked our car across the street for a couple of days, taking advantage of free street parking. Noticing that Malaparte was written up in the Michelin guide we gave it a try, and had delicious porcini and truffle oil infused pizza and paparadelle with a pork ragu. We ordered a half bottle of wine and were pleased at the very generously-filled carafe.

My husband and I had an early Saturday dinner that was exceptional. The fennel and pears salads were tasty and fresh, mixed well with the right proportions of ingredients. The pesto rigatoni was al dente with the right amount of pesto. It was very filling. The lasagna was tasty but could have been a tad larger. The two chocolate desserts - mousse and flourless cake were delicious. Prices are reasonable for the high quality and charming atmosphere.

Hidden gem in Grenwich village, had worked up an apetite walking the high line. Restaurants just by it were expensive but a few streets down was this lovely restaurant. The food was great and authentic, great friendly service and if you love italian food this is the place to go to.

We wandered into Malaparte for dinner and came out with huge smiles on our faces. I felt like I was in Florence, IT - it is so authentic. The prices are extremely reasonable and everything we ordered was delicious. They do not take credit cards but have an ATM in the back of the restaurant. The good news is that your dinner won't be very expensive so paying cash is not hard. Highly recommend!

I cannot believe any restaurant in NYC can be this bad and still be in business. Horrible service throughout the meal. Wrong drinks delivered, food was cold (they forgot the tomato on the pizza so they threw it on afterwards), and our requests to fix the problems went unanswered. Our waiter was more interested in hitting on the girls at the bar, and was rude to boot. And to top it off, the bill was wrong, they charged us for drinks we didn't order (intentional????).

I came to the restaurant with moderate expectations, hoping I would enjoy the food. I was completely amazed - the pasta and other dishes are fresh, the prices are really cheap considering what you are getting. It was SO good we went back two nights later and had another meal. The restaurant is bustling and quite romantic, I was there with my Mom but it still felt great. Try the calamari and the truffle mushroom pizza.

Been to the sister restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. Found this one to be just as good. Tasty succulent squid, great homemade pasta with porcini and a large flattened out bread pork chop. 3 of us attacked the delicious Tiramisu. Carafe wine is very drinkable. Cash only. Prices very good.

Had a late dinner here during a quick trip the city. Lots of variety on the menu, reasonably priced and great/quick service. The food was great, and simple. Ambience is lovely, we were dressed casually and fit right in.

I am very surprised by the good reviews for this restaurant, but I cannot in good faith agree with them. We sat for a late lunch in a nearly empty restaurant and were brusquely informed that we had five minutes to choose between the lunch and dinner menus. (We were given the choice of only 3 tables, when there was only ONE other party seated.) My boyfriend wanted to order from the lunch menu, but I preferred something from the dinner menu, so we asked if he could order now, and then place my order in five minutes. Our server was very difficult to understand but said yes, tho he looked very displeased about it. My boyfriend's order was placed and we sat waiting in the very empty restaurant while the evening wait staff filtered in, joking around, nibbling food in the corner, and two of them were even making out behind the bar. (I couldn't make this stuff up.) My boyfriend's food was served and I hadn't even been given the chance to order. When we asked, the server said he thought we were sharing the lunch, and after that would share a dinner. I was so frustrated at this point that I ended up sharing the lunch and a big glass of wine just to get out of there. The salad was so bland — I make better salads at home. The soup was way too salty but otherwise flavorless. I just wanted to leave, and couldn't get out of there fast enough. The menu we saw at the door outside was never offered to us. I would not go back here and would never recommend it.

We happened upon this place when our first choice wasn't available down the street. We're so glad we did. This tiny place packs a huge punch. Great italian food with stellar prices. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was flavourful, good portions and felt authentic. Between my husband and I we had: -- mint-grapefruit-arugula salad -- fresh and light -- carrot ginger soup (soup of the day) -- was rich even though it wasn't prepared with a cream-base. It was indulgent but still light. The portion was huge, enough for two people to share -- artichoke-spinach lasagna -- rich and -- brocolli and ricotta ravioli -- nice balance of savoury with the butter-sage sauce which was slightly sweet -- the complimentary bread basket with olive oil was nice. Bread was fresh and the olive oil had a nice fruity kick The restaurant is small so it got quite loud but it still had great ambiance and a rustic decor. The restaurant seemed to be filled with mostly locals so that's always a good sign of a good place.

Nice ambience, good service and good italian food pretty close to the original stuff We had a decent Nero d'Avola, polenta as appetizer and a very good tagliata steak I tried a bit of the pasta a friend of mine orderednabd it was good too. There was no room for dessert but the list was yummy Definitely going back once again in NY

This is what all good italian restaurants should be. The ingredients are fresh, high quality and the food is exceptional. The owners care for what they serve and your enjoyment and, in addition, it is not too noisy. It is unpretentious but great. Highly recommended if you want to discover why Italian food is so good.

Fun restaurant, lots of energy. Tables a bit tight. Most of us had the pizzas which were good and sized for 2 to share. They have outside seating but was a bit too chilly for us.

This is where we spend our first evening with friends in New York. We really liked the atmosphere and the food was good. We would recommend the calamari salad and the amazing meat (I cannot remember the name). Wine was ok and service very nice.

Comfortable low key popular Village eatery, now frequented by the influx of Whitney and Hi Line visitors...more challenging for locals to find a table without a reservation...however...the food merits the energy...would be a worthy Pizzeria in Firenze or elsewhere...wood fired pizza. rich flavored pasta. good wine list. and comfortable brick & old timber ambience. Totally professional staff, just abit tight in seating. I probably shouldn't be given this information out as it makes it yet more challenging to get a table at this popular place.

Pizza is beyond…I had branzino on another occasions and it was delicious. Lasagna is also very good. Feel like you can’t go wrong w anything that you order at this place. Casual atmosphere and cozy for dinner w friends. Will definitely come back

Good honest italian food. Nothing fancy and well priced. Hits the mark and good atmosphere and seating. Also good for outdoor seating and summer evenings (front opens up fully). Recommended.

Lovely food, not expensive given the location, friendly staff. Sat at the bar to eat and got chatting to my very friendly neighbour. It's very popular - people were queuing out of the door.

Being Italian I rarely go to Italian restaurants. But I came here with a friend who recommended it and was impressed. Small menu but excellent food!

I made a reservation one week before the date we were expecting to eat at this restaurant. We live in the neighborhood and have eaten here on several times and we know it can get busy. I confirmed the reservation today and was told every thing would be fine. We arrived at the time of our reservation (actually about five minutes late) and we were told it would be about ten or fifteen minutes before our table was ready, but we could wait at the bar. There were no seats at the bar and very little room for us to stand. The hostess did suggest that we could wait outside. Now considering it was about 5 degrees above zero with the wind chill, this did not seem like a good option. We waited about five minutes and I asked again how long it would be. We were told again that it would be ten to fifteen minutes. Our group decided to leave for another restaurant - which seated us immediately. I told the hostess that they should not take reservations that they could not honor. Her reply "we can honor your reservation it will only take another ten or fifteen minutes." If you can put up with this type of service, then you might enjoy this place.

A very pleasant atmospheric place, completely full on a tuesday night. Service was good. Prices are reasonable. We ordered the finocchio salad which was fantastic, some chianti that was very pleasant but made the mistake of ordering two of the pizzas on the menu and could only eat a small portion each. The pizzas were like from some completely other category, drowned in bland cheese (you can practically feel your arteries clogging) so the few other ingrediences, artichoke on one and mushrooms and truffle oil on the other are utterly lost. These are the least "Italian" pizzas I have ever tasted.....I guess the pasta must be better....

A early dinner after a day of shopping. Calamari, Apple salad, Lasagna and Tiramisu was a wonderful meal. Excellent wait staff. A true authentic Italian family run restaurant. Will definitely visit again.

A nice place all in all but one complaint: the porcini pizza I ordered didn't have any porcini on it! I mentioned this to the server and he apologized. I assume that the would have had the chef come out to correct me if in fact there was porcini on the pizza. I know what frozen or fresh porchini would look like on a pizza and the mushrooms on this were gilled mushrooms; probably shitake. A nice taste but not porcini. I asked for no truffle oil an the pizza was still truffled. How about a bit of honesty instead of assuming that the customers don't know porcini from shinola! Otherwise, a nice, friendly, neighborhood place. This was my first time there and I will return but will definitely avoid anything mentioning porcini. There were several different dishes that claimed to use porcini so careful!

The food is amazing. Came here with my mother and we both really enjoyed our meal. The staff is very knowledgeable and help us pick the perfect amount of food. Will return soon!

I wasn't served because I was told that the kitchen was closed. Time was 4:15 pm on Sunday 9/25, while the website of the restaurant clearly specifies that brunch is until 5 pm during the weekend. Please update your website if the information there is not correct

Came by for late dinner with some friends one Friday night. The restaurant seems to stay pretty packed all night but we were able to grab a table. Wine is cheap. Food is cheap and delicious. My recommendation is just order a bunch of food, more to taste, share everything, and add a couple of bottles of wine for good measure. Atmosphere is warm Italian and romantic. Good for a date. Service is great! Highly recommend.

Hidden gem you have to try. It’s a lovely, atmospheric spot and we were seated immediately on a Saturday night. We ordered mushroom spaghetti and carbonara - both some of the best Italian we’ve ever had. The pasta was fresh and taste was superb. Also, the service was amazing - waiters were busy and a bit businesslike but we got our food 6 minutes after we ordered. Very affordable for a delicious meal.

This was our 4th time to Malaparte, and as usual, no disappointments. Food is fresh, service is great and the value is unheard-of. Where else can you eat for 2 in Manhattan, especially the Meatpacking district, for $70 w/tip? ??

My girlfriend and I were walking around after dinner looking for a bar to have a glass of wine. It was snowing and beautiful outside. We had passed this bar once and thought it looked cool so we wanted to try . There were no seats at the bar but the manager said we could sit on one of the tables if we wanted. It was perfect. Great atmosphere and great vibe. Looked more like a local crowed. Very relaxed. Will go back for sure.

Mala parte is a Mediterranean restaurant located near the Meatpacking district of NYC within walking distance to another great attraction the High line. We ended having a wonderful Italian/Mediterranean dinner there after walking the entire HL. The menu is short and hey offer nightly specials which was a plus for us. We were able to try their pizzas( one had arugula on top) and grilled sardines which were absolutely delicious. They have a nice choice of wines and cocktails. I recommend you make reservations, the place is always packed and has high demand. I always go back just for the Sardines!

This is what real Italian food is all about! An island of excellent food and fun-dinning in the sea of trendy-but-not-so-brilliant restaurants of NYC. So glad I found this place, fine cooking, superb flavours, great atmosphere (just a tad noisy inside), faultless service, and a tempting menu. The grilled calamari is as good as the one in the fish market of Gaeta and the tuna & avocado salad simply divine. The ravioli PERFECT! Will go again as soon as possible...

Italian restaurant with lovely people, simple (in a good way) and tasteful food and laid back atmosphere. Good wine list and welcoming to kids! Would recommend going for a pasta (with mushroom!).

Cozy spot with a cool vibe, this Italian has a very friendly staff and great dishes. The wine selection is pretty satisfactory as well

A true foodie's paradise. The restaurant must sit 20 ppl. The decor is charming, without being over the top. The food... the food... just amazing! The selection of wine also perfectly matched. My advice is sit at the bar and have a chat with the bartender as you enjoy the evening.

Hard to spot at night. Fast service with accommodating staff. Fish of the day and homemade pasta were superb.

It has been several years since I ate here and last night confirmed why. The noise level was so loud that you literally could only talk to the person right next to you. I tried having a conversation with the individual across from me, but I practically had to shout to get my message across to him. The place looks cozy and very inviting, but be warned it is not a good place to have a conversation and catch up with friends. The food was ok but not as good as in the past. Two of us ordered polenta and it was the strangest polenta I have ever had. A meat ragu was totally covering the dish and frankly it did not taste that good with the polenta. The other appetizers looked fine and everyone else was happy with them. I had a basic pasta of tomato, basil and cheese - I would not recommend it and frankly I left a good portion on my plate. I have to say that most of our party thought the food was fine, but there were several of us that felt that things here were just not as good as it had been in the past. I do go to Malaparte, which is owned by the same people who own Malatesta and I think that is a much better restaurant.

This is a legit little "neighborhood" Italian spot that has a eclectic crowd. Many outside diners had a dog sleeping under the table. Ambiance is relaxed and comfortable. Food is wonderful -- about the best pesto and rigatoni I have ever had (and I eat this dish a lot). Fish dishes for me and my guest were fresh and tasty. Good and reasonably priced wine list. All in all, I WISH there were a place like this on the Upper West Side. Another popular Italian is in the next block up that caters to a far younger and lively crowd (been there) but the food at Malaparte is superior and the dining experience is far more chill and relaxing.

We were walking from the High Line and just ran into this restaurant on the corner of Washington & Bethune St. Everyone enjoyed their pasta and salads. I have to say the pizza at the next table looked amazing. I real local Italian restaurant.

If you find yourself in the West Village and are looking for s casual and charming Italian meal prepared and served by a kitchen and staff who are actually from Italy, I recommend Malaparte. Having passed this sweet little corner trattoria several times, my husband and I finally had a chance to stop in. Without reservations we were told we had a 20 minute wait, we were seated in 15. The restaurant was bustling on a Friday night w/smartly dressed locals, mostly young and quite apparently knowing of good food. I had a tuna dish, my husband a pizza, both were excellent. We cannot wait to go back, I will be taking my Neopolitan mother whom I know will appreciate not only the food but also conversing in Italian w/the staff. A little neighborhood gem!

We couldn't stay away! Delicious food and wonderfully friendly people. We didn't have reservations, they were busy but squeezed us in. Fennel salad followed by fabulous pesto...a bottle of chianti to wash it down

The food was great, the service was attentive, but the room was SOOO loud. We had an early reservation (5:30), and were seated at one of two small tables in the center of the room. Even with the restaurant only 75% full (being early), the noise was so loud it was impossible for the two of us to have a conversation. We both enjoyed our pastas (Ragu and carbonara) as well as the calamari starter, but it would have been a much more enjoyable experience with some sound proofing in the room.

We went in for coffee on a cold afternoon, but we were hungry and would have been interested in eating. Instead, we were almost shunned. The staff treated us like a burden- arguing among themselves and barely acknowledging us. We left and won't be back.

Nothing too different or special. Food was good - pricing was reasonable. Wait staff was nice but kind of discombobulated. Not really my favorite menu selections.

Malaparte serves great food -- fresh, light, comforting. It's reminiscent of good things in the past, without being old-fashioned. Loved the salad, followed by panino. either one would have been enough for a light lunch, but i was feeling empty. I was filled! Also, at lunch during the weekday, the restaurant was quiet -- loved it!

My boyfriend and I decided to eat here because it was highly recommended. Unfortunately, we were less than happy with our meals. I ordered the lasagna bolognaise and my boyfriend ordered the breaded pork chop. On a positive note, the food arrived rather quickly and our cabernet was delicious. However, a good portion of my lasagna was inedible because it was as stiff as cardboard. My boyfriend's pork chop was quite dry. We won't be coming back.

We had a group lunch in this restaurant in New York. Great food and brisk and prof service.Iconic Italian food with the New York flair. I had a chat with the owner and manager, who I thought was willing to chat about the history of this restaurant and he certainly has a passion for the food and service.

Came here with a group of 6. We split the Calamari and mussels for the appetizers. Both were great, however I loved the mussels! We all had some form of homemade pasta and really enjoyed them all. For dessert we split the Tiramisu, apple strudel, and chocolate mousse. Great place for dinner with friends or family!

Great food, service could be better. Pesto and carbonara were both delicious. The burrata special was also very good. Service wasn't the best but wasn't terrible.

After a walk on the High Line we wandered down Washington Street and found Malaparte. Lovely staff, excellent food and good wine. Great start to our New York culinary experience!

Inside the restaurant is quite tight and loud. We were a table of 6 and it was a challenge to have a conversation. Two people in the group were late due to a late bus, we could not order any food until they arrived. We ordered 2 appetizers. One was burrata on arugula with prosciutto--it was undressed arugula and the plain burratta with 2 slices of prosciutto. Without a bite of prosciutto, it was flavorless. The other app was a seared tuna. It was mostly super over cooked (a few pieces halfway cooked through) and chewy. Definitely not seared. The pizza was large enough for a meal. The other pastas were small and would be better as part of a meal. The gnocchi were well prepared, but the marinara was a bit salty. The raviola came out totally cold. My daughter asked to just have it heated a little. She seemed to get the same plate (totally fine), but with less ravioli. Of the 6 of us, none of us liked our dishes well enough to want to return. If you are particularly careful about COVID safety, the staff were not wearing masks.

We loved this place! Little place with a great vibe. Wait staff was knowledgeable. The wine was great, and not overly expensive.

The fish dishes are truly authentic. I loved the Insalata di Mare, the Grilled Branzino , the Tuna salad! Also enjoyed the Polenta with porcini mushroom. Last time I went we were 5 people and everybody loved the pizzas with very special toppings like artichokes and coppa, or porcini mushrooms and truffle. I also ahd great Spaghetti with Clams. Decor is great, crowd west village and meat packing is very mixed and the staff is extremely nice, professional and entirely Italian!! Believe it or not!!

Loved our meal and the environment. Pizzas are large and yummy. Ask for hot oil. We sat outside. Staff was very friendlyl and helpful.

Visited on a Friday night, with a booking. The food was good, but fairly standard Italian and not outstanding. The appetizers were the best part; a seared tuna salad with sesame was the best bite, and an arugula salad had nice zing. The entree pastas were average -- a pork ragu had tiny bits of meat and no distinct pork taste; a mushroom pasta was good, but not special. Service was not great. The restaurant was incredibly busy and also incredibly loud. Staff were going through the motions, slapping food on the table and not saying much. Getting a second beverage required flagging someone down. And, most annoyingly, the hostess cycled the restaurant constantly, clearly sending signals she wanted to clear tables ASAP. This made the meal feel rushed and brought the neighborhood hospital level to basically zero. Much better spots in the West Village than this one, at least for a Friday night.

We ate here after walking High Line. Very nice place to sit outside and eat. If you like cheese - order pizza! ;-) They make an excellent pasta/pesto ($16). Can recommend the calamari too.

As we approached we could see the restaurant was busy. Slightly tentative about successfully getting served we entered Malaparte. Immediately we were greater warmly, made to feel we mattered. It was too busy for a table so the waitress offered the option of waiting at the bar, or eating at the bar. Hungry, we decided to eat at the bar. Maybe the tables are more comfortable. Maybe. However, the girl at the bar made us so welcome, was so warm and friendly it did not matter. So, the situation. The service. Exemplary. What about the food? Malaparte is all about Italian food done simply, done well. I can safely say I have never had better lasagne. My wife's striped bass was equally good. And the price? Very reasonable. For cooking to that standard. For attentive, friendly staff. For an overall experience I want to repeat. Malaparte ticked all the boxes.

Good food, pasta was nice and good not to a bigger plate, nice Table d'Hôte also. Waiters were friendly and efficiantly. I like the Spaghetti a la Carbonara.

While visiting from Maine, our friends joined us for an early dinner at Malaparte. It was a beautiful spring day, and we had just ventured through the nearby High-Line. Our party of 4 sat just inside the restaurant, but the front doors were open, giving us that sidewalk bistro feel. We enjoyed several glasses of wine, along with personal pizzas and homemade pasta dishes. All were well-prepared and quite tasty. We finished with cappaccino and tiramisu. Our server was lovely as well, making our experience totally enjoyable. I would recommend Malaparte to any one looking for a delicious yet reasonably priced Italian meal in the West Village.

I recently visited Malaparte for the fifth time since its opening, and I continue to be impressed and delighted by this place. All of the elements--food, service, environment--are perfect. The dimly lit restaurant is cozy and friendly, almost as if you're dining in a friend's kitchen on the Italian countryside. The wine and dinner menus offer a nice variety, yet are concise enough so that every selection is a good one, and no one dish is a forgotten "least favorite." And, the waiters are actually Italian.

We discovered this restaurant while staying in the area. The food is simple and delicious, with a great wine list.

Fantastic freshly made rustic italian food done in a modern way. Excellent staff who were all really passionate about the food. The squid was possibly the best i have every eaten: the combination of very fresh ingredients and a lovely light touch in the kitchen. Definitely worth booking unless you love to queue, was obviously very popular with locals. Note that it is cash only (and check out the wonderful old cash register), as well as being pretty hectic & loud.

Such a great restaurant, relaxing, quaint with excellent service and great food. I recommend eating outside on the quiet tree lined quintessential West Village sidewalk. We started with the Burrata, so delicious, and then had the Lasagna Bolognese and Costata di Maiale alla Milanese both were excellent. The wines are very good as well. I highly recommend Malaparte!!

A solo traveller, I went here on recommendation of a NY resident. Great tasty no nonsense food and wine. Relaxed vibe, ate at a pavement table. Loved the friendliness of my local fellow dinners and the eclectic music. The service was outstandingly friendly and attentive and even gave me a complimentary glass of red and a final coffee when my wine choice was temporarily forgotten. A genuine neighbourhood restaurant that I would recommend to you without reservation . They deserve their success. Thanks Malaparte.
It is not bad at all, it is good!
This little restaurant at Washington Street in West Village is worth a visit. You should book a table because after 8 pm more and more people arrive. The seating is limited however you can also eat outside. We did like the pork, the pizza and the spagetti we had. At the dessert we found that the crême caramel was not the biggest in the world and the tiramisou could be a bit softer. The service was fast and the waiters were alert. You cannot pay with a credit card so bring cash.
