After 8 hours of flying and with jet lag we stumbled on the Malibu Diner, one of the best 24 hour eateries in NY. We were warmly welcomed by friendly staff. We both had bacon, eggs and potatoes with OJ and as much coffee as we could drink. All for 20 bucks. Great value, especially at 6am. Thanks!

Good breakfast and great people 👍🏻 food very tasty and well prepared. Open 24/7 for breakfast lunch brunch and dinner

Great service, friendly people and a nice family diner. But the food was mediocre. The omelette was mostly cheese (too much) and my toast was burnt. My son’s chicken and waffle was just ok. Great orange juice not very good coffee (milk no cream). Would not go again.

The place is nice, althought a little bit outdated decorated. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The food is ok and quick served. The 3 star rating is because we were very disapointed of adding automatically the tip of 22% to the bill. We prefer to decide by ourselves about the tip according to the service we recieve.

Big servings and good but More expensive than we were expecting for just a burger. But I guess that is NYC for you!

Good food in a relaxing atmosphere with good service. Has the Ruben, was very good. Daughter had the veggie burger, she was very happy with it.

We ate here twice and enjoyed both meals. Service was quick, food was tasty, and coffee was hot and constantly refilled. The prices were a little high, but, hey, it's NYC so we weren't surprised. They had outside seating and spacious inside booths. Checked for vaccination status.

I'm offering three stars here, since our breakfast for two was "average". There was nothing wonderful to rave about, and nothing big to complain about. As others mentioned, the prices are high. This is the post-Covid/ NYC era, so I guess it was to be expected. We ordered the basic breakfast (two eggs each, toast and home fries, no beverage) and the bill was over $34 without tip included. Service was good, eggs were cooked as ordered, home fries were nice tasting but served lukewarm. We had the option to eat outside, so we decided to do so. It was lovely. If in the neighborhood again, I would dine here again, but without high expectations.

Extremely friendly staff and good food. Had the avocado toast with a poached egg. Nice typical NYC diner. Went mid morning on our way out to walk the city. Would recommend for a good morning breakfast. Standard menu with a few surprises.

Fantastic and authentic experience. It seems to be a place where the locals also come and enjoy breakfast We got a little different and shared a little. And this is not the last time we get there on our trip to NY

Haven't been there in a while. Stopped by when in the area last week. As before, nice people and good food. My steak was perfectly done but over-salted. Clearly it's a neighborhood favorite with lots of regulars. One thing: I asked which cake was fresh, and the waiter stated that they all were. Ordered the carrot cake and although not stale, it was the thickest texture and least moist of any I've ever had. Lots of too-sweet frosting that was much too hard, probably over-stabilized with gelatin. Almost sent it back, but decided that I really should have gone up and looked at it myself. (On the way out, I saw that all the cakes were pre-sliced and the sides wrapped with waxed paper.) The espresso was good, but the $5.50 price seemed high for a diner.

My mother, my son, and I were in New York on a Saturday to watch my sister run the marathon the next day. We met up with my sister, found Malibu Diner, and decided to try it out for lunch. The service was not exactly prompt, but it wasn't terrible either. They have an extensive menu that almost offers too many choices. When the food came, we noticed that no one's order had been filled exactly right. I ordered souvlaki, which was supposed to come with a pita but did not. My mom got a sandwich that was not quite what she had requested. The side my son requested had been substituted with another. All of this was odd, but it only slightly diminished the experience. The food was good, so I am willing to give the restaurant another shot the next time I am in New York.

We were in NYC for the film festival at Cinepolis Chelsea and needed somewhere close. This was within walking distance and reminded me of a traditional diner. There was a good selection to choose from and the Gyro and Cheesecake comes highly recommended.

This is true NYC Diner and comes highly recomended , so avoid all the tourist diner traps across times square etc The steak and eggs was exceptional for the money and the porridge was equally outdtanding . We also enjoyed the lemon merangue and wow. go to new york and check out malibu for a down to earth , yet brilliant ,diner experience

When in New York we always come here for a meal. It is a traditional diner with a great busy feel with staff always in conversation. The food is good and plentiful portions which we always struggle to finish. The cakes all look amazing too. It never disappoints!

We were walking from Midtown to downtown and looking for somewhere to have breakfast so we just came across this diner. We are so glad we did. The service and food was just brilliant and really wonderful value for money. My wife had a vegetarian omelette which she said was beautiful and I had eggs and bacon which i thoroughly enjoyed. So if you are looking for somewhere for a great breakfast I strongly recommend the Malibu Diner

Classic US diner experience, staff are friendly, wide range of food choices, good size portions, good value, would visit again.

We found this diner on TripAdvisor. It is a fabulous authentic American Diner. No fuss, no frills but great food and good service. The portions are huge. The place was full of locals when we were there. It is a proper old school diner - we would definitely recommend it.

Read about this on TripAdvisor. Sounded good. It was okay. Breakfast was enjoyable. Service was satisfactory. I would have appreciated the offer of a refill of my coffee but nobody offered.

A quiet, good service from the waiter and delicious cakes, but unfortunately I got uncomfortable cause they didn’t say anything about the minimum payment with card is 10 dollars and mine was just $5,70 so I’d need to use their ATM which is $2,09 more and pay cash.

I can only attest to how great breakfast is because we didn't try the Malibu for any other meals. But once we discovered it for breakfast, it became the go-to spot. We were staying at a hotel in the Fashion District and the Malibu was just a couple of blocks away. It's very clean, nice and bright, and there was never a wait for a table, even though it was always quite busy. The menu offers plenty of selection (not just for breakfast) and the portions are ample. I tried the French toast, an omelette and the eggs Benedict. They were all delicious with plenty of fresh ingredients. We were always very full when we left, but that didn't stop us from drooling over all the beautiful desserts on display. The service was friendly and efficient. The whole experience hit the spot again and again.

We had a dinner and a breakfast here. Excellent food, generous servings and proper, unpretentious friendly service. Full of locals which says it all. Highly recommended.

Wife went here for breakfast as we just wanted a regular American breakfast , nothing fancy. We were pleasantly surprised. Its what you expect from a diner, basic food cooked right. Which it delivers. I had the turkey sausage omelette with breakfast potatoes which was good and was what i expected. Wife had the grilled chicken omelette which was good. The surprise came we we got the side of turkey sausage. The were huge about the size of a hot dog. Yet they were very good. Turns out all their breakfast sausages are that size. Would highly recommend this place if you want a nice meal with out the wait. Food quality was good, service was quick.

We got a great tip from a gentleman for breakfast. Did not disappoint. So squeaky clean and food was just what u expect at a Diner. Big meals, great taste and good $. Service was so fast and friendly. Super great recommendation.

The wait staff was excellent, but both my Greek Benedict was only fair with yesterday’s potatoes and my husband’s sausage biscuit lacking sausage but plenty of potatoes. They had good coffee and orange juice.

We had breakfast at The Malibu Diner. While not cheap, the food is plentiful. We had coffee, fresh fruit, toast, 3 egg omelette of choice, fresh squeezed orange juice and hash browns. A lot of food and made well. Great breakfast that kept us going all day.

Very reasonably priced for NYC; breakfast price included coffee and juice. We enjoyed a variety of egg dishes and home fries, huge portions and delicious! If we had room, we could have had some of the pastries as well!

Very good place good service and food fast service . We were in NYC for a business trip very satisfying

I left my hotel near the Flatiron building looking for breakfast. I literally stumbled on the Malibu. What a fantastic breakfast! The diner was clean, and the staff (wait staff and everyone else there) were so nice and accommodating. I ordered a spinach-mushroom omelet and it was excellent. Great coffee, too! I will come back if I'm ever staying in Chelsea again.

The food was fresh and service excellent. We Visited here because of its 24hr operations. Our times had not adjusted and we were hungry at 10:30pm local. The food was fresh, prices reasonable and menu varied. The staff was super friendly and helpful so much so that we revisited daily for breakfast 3 days in a row,

Had breakfast in here and it was really nice. The service was lovely and friendly - no complaints. Would recommend

Challah French Toast might have been good if the butter and syrup had been delivered when the toast arrived to the table. Once they arrived, the butter didn't even melt on the toast. Likewise to the Belgian waffle, which was completely cold by the time the butter and syrup arrived. Bacon was decent.

. One dish was not to the liking of the diner and it was replaaced without fuss.nor bother. Typical diner food plenty aand well presented. All good and fine. However, when the bill arrived we were all surprised to see that the cred it card charge to the business was charged to us! Quite surorised. Now, apart from the cost of the meaj is added 18pct tax,tip and now credit card wnhich omakes eating out more expensive.

Having moved away 10 yrs ago from NY there are certain things no where else can compete. One is the NY diner. Found The Malibu Diner on Trip Advisor and so glad I did. Stayed at The Hilton on 26th St so it was so convenient. Had a classic lunch of a patty melt, french fries and drink. Service was efficient and prompt. Would love to try breakfast. Excellent find.

We had breakfast here. The food was good. I had French toast ($13 + $3.25 for real maple syrup + maybe an egg surcharge). It was good. The pancakes were also good ($13 + $3.25 for real maple syrup). The place is roomy. It's open 24 hours. The service is average. Coffee is basic brewed ($3.50). Typical NYC diner.

Good food good service and great location. It caters to the locals so there is a welcoming feel. Good for breakfast and late night meals as well.

We come here for the lunch and we stay surprised we cannot believe that that kind of food we can find anywhere here in Manhattan I recommended this restaurant for people who know to eat The service was unbelievable and is near everywhere here in Manhattan

My wife and I were had breakfast here twice during our recent weekend stay. The food is great, the service quick, but for some reason, the wait staff doesn't understand the importance of getting caffeine addicted patrons a fast cup of coffee. Both days we were rescued by the bus boy (sorry I didn't get his name, but he's excellent.) Try to avoid sitting in the back of the restaurant---that's where they put the screaming kids! Overall, food is super. My wife had scrambled eggs one day, a cheese omelette the next. Both very good. Ask for butter melted on your bagel---it's delicious. By the way, the wait staff is stingy with jelly---don't let them leave the table without giving you enough. 2 bathrooms, and they are very clean. On your way out, talk to George the waiter with the bow tie. He knows more about baseball than anyone I know. The hostess says he knows more about everything than anyone else. Expect to see some blind patrons with guide dogs in the restaurant. There's a home for the blind on 23rd street. That's why I love the Malibu!

Called in by chance and we experienced the classic NY diner, what a great experience. Food was good and served with humour and enthusiasm. Highly recommended.

Found this diner close to our hotel so it became our groups breakfast spot. Big menu, endless coffee, great food all at reasonable price. Looks small from the window but step inside and it goes way back ... so tables were always available for us!

Christmas dinner with grandchildren..... A TASTELESS EXPENSIVE NIGHTMARE. I SHARED with neighbors and their response was...YOU ONLY EAT BREAKFAST THERE!

Classic diner. Casual, clean and simple. We enjoyed eggs, Virginia ham steak and a marvelous egg & turkey sausage on a Kaiser roll. The juice is fresh squeezed, but very small glasses. The service was good. Enjoy.

We are always hungry when leaving our Broadway shows at 11pm and for some reason there aren’t a lot of late night choices! This is your average diner with tons of menu choices. I had a panini which was pretty basic. My daughter had a German omelet which was really good. Portions are huge and service friendly. The desserts they had in a display case looked good.

Hey I'm an Air Force veteran, having served over 25 years in the military. I called this restaurant on today (6/15/2022), to discuss the condition and improper placement of the United States flag. The person that answered the phone was very rude and wouldn't address my concerns. I asked that you not support this establishment until they place the United States flag in it's proper position. No flag should be to the right of the American Flag, or larger than the American Flag. Chief Master Sergeant Knowlton

Real dinner experience , good value breakfast , corn beef hash , with eggs , toast coffee , orange juice. Good portions , nice way to start the day in midtown

Very good breakfast and moderate prices! We visited it two times! Service is very quick and attentive! Highly recommended!

We ate in this establishment on Monday 19th march, the food and service was amazing special thanks to Pedro our server and Yanis who was a perfect gentleman well done Malibu !

It's a real NYC diner. Breakfast was fast, perfectly cooked and generous omelettes with coffee flowing whenever you needed. No one leaves this place hungry. Bacon! It you want a low key, real diner in NYC you'll love this place.

A good place if you are hungry! After much walking we were starving and came across this place. We ordered good, basic comfort food (burgers, fries, shakes) and were pleasantly satisfied. This isn't the kind of place that's worth going out of your way for, but if you are nearby and hungry, check it out.

We had breakfast. Nice traditional diner in lower Manhattan. Good service. Good choice of breakfast items. Moderate prices and friendly service

When in New York we always come here for a meal. After 3 years we managed to get back and it is as great as ever. It is a traditional diner with a great busy feel with staff always in conversation. The food is good and plentiful portions which we always struggle to finish. The cakes all look amazing too. It never disappoints!

Finally got to the Malibu and am so pleased with the food and people. We went for dinner and were not disappointed. Great portions, great prices. We'll be back when we visit next year!

I grew up in diners so I’m a diner snob and unfortunately a lot of the great NYC ones have been replaced, but Malibu Diner remains! This 24 hour gem in the heart of Chelsea is good any time of day for anything. I prefer to sit at the counter when I come solo, and there is always a spot. A lot of regulars and the food is always solid. Want eggs at 11pm, no problem! Craving a chicken Caesar salad at 7am, they’ve got you covered. If you want a quick bite stop in, if you’re visiting NYC and want a true New York City diner experience then Malibu Diner is your place, better than any of the faux-diners you’ll find around Times Square and one of the best in the 5 boroughs.

NOT RECOMMENDED - TRY DOMINOES PIZZA ACROSS THE STREET. Went late. They were open, unfortunately. Had read "good" reviews. Have to wonder if these were fake! Saw others from hotel there so went in. Ordered pasta, chicken quesadila, chicken fingers/fries and pina colada. Drink was horrible. Food was tasteless, left most of it. Bill over $100. Back at hotel. Severe stomach pains. Please do yourself a favor and eat elsewhere.

Perfect spot when a grey and cold day made breakfast for dinner a cozy idea; my dining companion was totally unimpressed with the meatloaf. Fast service, full bar, old-school decor.

Great breakfast and service. Had omelets and bagel sandwiches. Nothing fancy, just a cheap good diner.

I always make a point of going here when I'm in NYC, especially for breakfast. Not too pricey for a decent feed. The staff are very welcoming and can't do enough to help. Whether you want coffee and a Danish, or a proper meal, this place is great with fast service and decent food.

Nice little downtown diner. It has a big capacity, so was easy to find a seat out of the rain for breakfast. The service was good, albeit somewhat monotone and the food was okay, albeit slightly dry and plain. Absolutely fine for a breakfast diner and the sign says it’s 24 hours, so if ever stuck, it’s a place to go!

Stopped in for a late night dinner/snack. Waiter was friendly. Burger was nothing special for $13. One of our group had some sandwich with "planks" of sausage. He found them much too salty. Others had milkshakes and/or apple pie. Milkshakes got high marks. The pie - not so much...

In the U.K. we'd call the Malibu a greasy spoon, in the U.S. they are diners, and this is a good, old school, example. When I first visited New York in the early 1990s there were many diners, however, they seem to be a vanishing site on the streets of Manhattan these days. I went to Malibu for breakfast three times on my recent visit as I was staying across the road at the Hotel Chelsea, I had omelette each time and it was fine; nothing special, but, fine. The service was pleasant, attentive and the food arrived swiftly on my table. My only real issue was that I found it very expensive for what it was; $15.95 for an omelette plus 22% service added. This is pricy for us Brits even without Prime Minister Truss' Kamikaze economic policies. Call me old fashioned, but I feel this type of establishment and this type of food should be better value for money. I would like to add that I had the absolute pleasure of meeting George on one of my visits to Malibu - George should be Landmarked! He is just simply New York! And so, to sum up, food pricey but George, priceless.

Great little place - not very big, but appeared to be very popular. Great chocolate chip cannoli and egg cream - so New York!! Loved it!!

Forget the over priced Midtown tourist diners, get a slice of authenticity at Malibu. It has a nice retro vibe without feeling contrived in any way. The breakfast menu has a good range of all the usual favourites, with most options including a hot drink, juice and toast. Our food was well very cooked in generous portions, I particularly enjoyed the corned beef hash meal. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and service was prompt. The meal was very good value, and a great way to start a busy day well fueled.

Nice and friendly staff and good food. The portions are definitely generous and very reasonably priced. Recommended.

Food was average. Service was average. It was not crowded which speaks volume of the place. It was only a respite from the cold winter outside.

Very good dinner which was next to our hotel. We ate out almost every evening. It’s very good and very filling. The service is top notch and the menu is varied (hamburger, pasta and other dishes) The staff is attentive and very kind. It's open all the time so you can eat even if you arrive late after the flight. I recommend !!!

This diner is fairly basic with booths and tables. We ordered pancakes which were nice but presented with corn syrup, when we asked we were told maple syrup was extra. The coffee was on the weak side and rather tasteless and the staff spent alot of time chatting amongst themselves.

Excellent wholesome simple food, all tastes covered Substantial European as well as American fare US portions Fresh juice Well priced

We decided to eat here because of the good reviews but left disappointed. Maybe we should have ordered lunch instead of breakfast. I ordered over Medium eggs which were over done, the bacon was so thin that it busted in pieces in your hand. The waffle was given to us with no butter and was cold. It was tasty but not worth $15.00. The orange juice is "supposedly" 100% fresh squeezed but it sure didnt taste like it. Taste like watered down Tropicana OJ with pulp. Our waitress took our order, brought our food and forgot about us. We had to call other waiters over to our table if we needed something. It took 20 minutes to get our check which was extremely frustrating. Im so mad that I wasted my money on this place. Never again.

I always try to make it here at least once when I visit NYC. The service is very friendly and fast, and the food tasty and attractive. I was here on a Sunday at 5 pm and the place was jumping, but service was attentive and the food piping hot. I wish I lived nearby and could come here every day. So many menu choices.

Good breakfast with fresh juice, organic choises and friendly staff. Wish I would have known about it sooner in my trip to eat out more often.

We came here twice for breakfast during our stay in New York. Friendly service and good food. You'll be served quickly. The portions are generous. Both tourists and local people pass through here. Highly recommended!

This is a great neighborhood diner to get an excellent breakfast. This has become our go to location when we visit NYC and stay in this area of the city. It’s a good home cooked breakfast.

Large menu, small on listening. Asked for potatoes well done and he said it would take longer. We said fine. Enjoyed my brunch cocktail while we waited. The potatoes come out close to raw and he said it would take 20 minutes as they’d have to start from scratch - what?!?! Zero sausage in the Country omelette too! Those are just two examples of why we’re never coming back! Prices are high, food is so-so, but at least the bathrooms were clean!

We try couple of times this restaurant and the food is simply delicious you can try even the fish burger and he’s very nice The stuff is so so polite the hill also nice espresso and desserts If you’re around you must tried this place

Great diner...waffles and pancakes are amazing. Staff were friendly..Great breakfast to start the day

HUGE menu, which we'd expect from an NYC diner. Order was taken quickly and the food arrived quickly as well. Portions were huge--fettucine alfredo was sufficiently buttery and probably super bad for you (which is exactly what I wanted), and open-faced turkey sandwich was too big even for my husband to finish, and that's saying something. Nice people, too. Would definitely return the next time we're in NYC.

Great food, lemon meringue pie was amazing. Lovely staff, with great banter and a brilliant atmosphere.

Typical Diner with all typical american dishes. Food Is really really good. Service Is quick and attentive. Price is ok for the area.

Typical New York diner food but either prices have risen a lot over the pandemic since my last visit or this is expensive - $60-70 for breakfast for two. plus on my second visit the staff awarded themselves a tip and added 3% credit card charge.

Without words... the place is amazing and the food too. The employees are very very nice. You have to try it!

Cheerful service and large menu for after midnight following music ata Chelsea tavern. Real nourishing food.

Went for breakfast/brunch and thought that the food was great. Not too expensive which was refreshing, really good, quick service and the wait staff were very friendly. The hungry man is a really nice dish they do! I can see the reviews of the decor which I can see but, it’s open 24 hours, she would they renovate! It’s classic American diner and doesn’t NEED and work doing to it! It’s huge as well, loads of seating

Decent breakfast food at a high price point. $20 Western Omelette was bland and coffee was weak. Good diner atmosphere and staff is very nice.

Open 24 hours a day, it is a typically American place. Friendly staff and honest food. Online price. What is striking is the furnishings with a large counter and sofas for the tables. Large and complete menu. It may not be the best restaurant in NY but a change can be made.

Highly recommend this diner. Excellent service. Delicious food served promptly. Will eat here again!!!!

Serves breakfast. lunch and dinner 24/7. A classic diner. For a diner establishment, simply to perfection, good and honest nourishment. I love to go there for a quick bite when in the neighborhood.

Decided to try Malibu Diner based on Trip Advisor recommendations, glad I did as it was great. First fade had full breakfast and loved it, great sausages, eggs potatoes etc. Next day tried the pancakes, they were really good, 3 large pancakes with syrup, yummy, with endless coffee and iced water. Friendly staff, really good vibe, speedy yet not hurried, if your staying in that area don’t hesitate to check it out on day 1 so you can return.

Looking for late night dessert in the city that never sleeps we stumbled upon the Malibu 24 hr. Clean and having a full diner menu. The selection was typical and the pie we ordered was probably frozen . If you want basic fare- burger fries, sandwiches you probably won’t be disappointed .

What a nice experience. A cute, cozy, classic diner with fantastic service, nice staff, great food and very reasonable. It is not surprising that they are rated so highly. They really seem to have their process down and they obviously have pride in what they do. The French Toast was great, the breakfast sandwich was a good size and delicious, and the pancakes were also great. If you're looking for a nice breakfast experience at a reasonable price, I highly recommend coming here.

My husband and I were visiting for the weekend and passed by the restaurant several times. We enjoy going to local restaurants which are truly enjoyed by locals. We were greeted immediately by George, who sat us, and who engaged in conversation back and forth while waiting for our food. That was an added plus to the overall experience. There is nothing fancy here, but the food was good and cooked to order. There were also many locals, which is a positive. I like crisp bacon and very well done pancakes, which is hard to get in most places. My pancakes were cooked exactly the way I asked. We met family at a trendy restaurant several blocks away after finishing breakfast here. I am so glad we ate at the Malibu diner. I would not have traded the experience nor the food. This was a good find!

During our stay we went to dinner several times in this restaurant. The menu is very varied but the dishes are all good and hearty. The cocktails are excellent and the staff is very nice. I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity!

Great place for a traditional breakfast. We were visiting NY as European tourists and loved that place that is very typical US. Breakfast is great and generous, pancakes are delicious!

First evening in NY, stayed closeby at Motto / Hilton. Arrived late. Sadly this place was neary. Menu has dozens of items. That should have been a red flag, jack of all trades. Food was bland. VERY OVERPRICED. That night was up sick with stomach pains. Please do yourself a favor and dont eat here.

Visited a couple of times whilst in NYC. Food was very good and fast, enjoyed the philly cheese steak and burgers. Staff are friendly and efficient and although decor is dated it gives the place a certain charm. Would thoroughly recommend.

Very good and typical NYC diner with plenty of breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night options. Service was good and they accommodated special requests. Average prices for NYC and the type of restaurant, with decent portion sizes. There are certainly a multitude of dining choices in every NYC neighborhood, but this is a good one if you want a diner in Chelsea/Mid-town area.

Had food here twice cannot complain at all about the food, plentiful and delicious. Don't understand why on first visit gratuity was not included (we did leave a tip of probably more than 20%) but on the second visit it was included automatically (I have to point out that we were told) they should tell their staff to either include on all bills or leave it to customer discretion. That was the only thing I didn't like it seemed as if the server was telling us that we were happy with the service (which we were but that wasn't the point). Because it wasn't included the first time we went it just seemed money grabbing if you know what I mean. The gentleman who was serving us drinks was really good making sure we didn't want for anything.

We are here twice during a 4 day stay at Chelsea Savoy. Restaurant is open 24 hours and the menu selection is vast. Service was prompt and friendly...pricing was reasonable for NYC levels...

At first glace, prices seem high, but then reading the fine print, the plates included a juice, coffee or tea, and a bread. The servings were very generous. The waiter seemed a little slow to come over - only because he was very busy. but once he had our 4 orders, the food came out fast and hot. I would go again.

We had breakfast and it was just mediocre. The environment was worn down, I don't get the good reviews for this place, there are far nicer choices in the area.

Excellent food and service. Very high level of cleanliness. I had corn beef hash, patatos, 2 eggs, toast, juice, water and coffeee for under $10.

Went here for a breakfast as it was close to the hotel and got the full on US diner experience, good honest filling food with friendly service in a clean bright room. I had the med omelette while the GF had eggs benedict , very tasty and in such large portions we didnt need to eat again until mid afternoon.

Good, friendly and clean diner experience with decent food and reasonable prices. We ordered numerous breakfast items from the menu and enjoyed all of them. Service is fast and polite, and you'll do well to find a better old style diner anywhere in Manhattan

Visited Malibu Diner the first time in 2015 for breakfast . We nearly missed it because it does not look much from the outside. When we got inside the place simply opened up and we thought it was one of the best diners in Manhattan. Came back in 2023 (for breakfast) and found it to be just as wonderful as we remembered it. The staff is very friendly, the food is great (gives you that diner experience, and there is lots of it). An absolute must when you are in Manhattan.

I don’t live in NYC but travel there almost every month for business. Have been a loyal Malibu customer for many years now, partly because I really like the Diner atmosphere and of course because of their mostly great food. Be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a late night snack. Portions are always well sized. Staff is mostly friendly, at least the Latino guys; one guy (older, bald, typical unfriendly NYC style), is a real pain I.T.A. who sometimes makes me think of not coming back, but -weighing out the options- I just endure him.

First time visit during a business trip. Great experience. The manager was very friendly, very attentive, accommodated our party of 12. They have a large menu, offer things like breakfast items for dinner, dinner items for breakfast. They have very reasonable prices and a lot of non-alcoholic beverage choices.

Nice classical diner, friendly staff, good food in a familiar surrounding. Nothing upscale but good food and generous portions. I was here for breakfast and my day started very well: any sort of eggs but also burger. Give it a try you wan’t regret it.

Went for breakfast. No gluten free options. Had to order a la carte so it sent the prices through the roof. Just not a great value for the price.

This restaurant was on the block where we were staying (Townhouse Inn of Chelsea). We went here based on the TA reviews. TBH - it wasn't great. The menu is huge, yes. The prices are maybe a bit lower than some places in Manhattan - but the quality of food is much lower. I left most of my meal behind - so did my wife. The service was good - our waitress very friendly as were the rest of the staff. But the food just didn't make up for it. Wouldn't return.

Needed some protein after working out at the Peloton Studio across the street and the Two Egg Breakfast with Meat is spot on!! They also have the biggest corn muffins. If you want a simple breakfast, this is the spot!!

Great food and service. We were looking for breakfast near our hotel. This fit the bill and was close to the subway for our next stop.

This is a great diner. The service is superb. We sat at the counter where an elderly gentleman served us. He was friendly, very attentive, and I loved listening to his New York accent. The food here is really good, and you get a lot of it! Good prices too. I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to anyone.

The people who work here are happy and friendly; yes even in stress filled midtown NYC. The menu is expansive with a Greek tilt. Very nicely decorated rooms with many booths and a long counter. The food is very good quality and plentiful. The actuality is better than the exterior / Street front to this place. Try it and you will like it. NYC prices.

solid food, clean, quick, pleasant service help, portions very generous, good location, very reasonably prices

During a four day visit to New York we called into the Malibu Diner for breakfast on a Sunday Morning. The breakfast was really good. We both got omelette that were really tasty and a large helping. The diner is very well decorated and very clean. The gentleman behind the counter was so friendly taking time to chat and was interested in our trip. Overall a good experience.

The service itself was good, very efficient and friendly, however the food was a let down, it was mediocre and the prices were expensive for what it was, there is definitely better elsewhere

When my wife and I met, she had not experienced a NY diner. It's been my pleasure over the years to introduce her to the joy that is a great diner. Malibu Diner hits all the right notes, and has become our go to breakfast spot in Chelsea, now our favorite neighborhood.

Went to eat lunch with my mom, we entered a nice diner, family environment, very clean, fresh food, very tasty dishes, I chose eggs Benedict and Oreo cake. Definitely will come back again and Highly recommended.

The service may have been inattentive, but the food made up for it. Large portions that make the price you pay worth it, and everything we tried was above average. Convenient location to many tourist and local attractions. (oh, and go for the fries over hashbrowns, definitely!)

Really nice breakfast selection. Friendly staff. Booths to sit at. Reasonably priced. But eggs very very very runny and food a bit greasy.

Stayed in a hotel round the corner from here. Wanted a proper NY diner and this is it. Open 24/7. Went twice for breakfast - great! Also very clean with efficient NY. service. Highly recommended.

Your typical diner ... varied menu, reasonably fast service, decent portions. Has some decent daily specials. Good place to go if hungry.

We discovered the Malibu diner with 3 days left of our trip and ate breakfast here for our last 3 days. Great place, friendly staff.

Great diner type food, and the personnel is quick and kind. Just sit down and eat whatever is in the menu!

We first was recommended the 24 hr dinner by hotel front desk after arriving in NY at 10pm Friday night from traveling for nearly 24 hrs. The family headed off to the diner and didn't disappoint . All staff very friendly and service fast, we had a BLT and Philly Cheese sandwich and this was enough for four of us. Price was very reasonable. We ordered takeaway next night for dinner and had another BLT and spaghetti with meat sauce and a slice of lemon meringue once again between four, all very good, pie was not as sweet or lemony as some people would like but for the size was enough. Would recommend.

Amazing place , fabulous people, great food, you can’t go wrong if you dine here. Thank you for looking after us from the two English ladies (one with pink hair) lol x

Excellent bagels, delicious coffee, great service, especially clean venue. Got everything right on our order on a busy Sunday morning. The cakes and pies looked amazing - next time!

Typical average diner, in need of modernisation. Food and coffee was fine, nothing stood out that I’d rush back for

Our hotel recommended Malibu Diner for brunch as it was close by. What we found was a classic New York diner serving very good diner food. We also found very friendly service that helped us with our ordering and who checked on us throughout our meal which makes for a nice experience. We even tried one of their homemade desserts which was very good. Our meal was not cheap but we felt in line with "normal" New York City pricing which is always a bit pricey. We would eat here again...

Classic diner, everything available on the menu. Not the cheapest in NYC. We had the gyros (would have preferred real meat rather than a kebab meat) and mousaka (ok). The food was okay, nothing special, probably a little expensive for what it was. However, the chicken rice soup (came with the the mousaka) was clearly house made, and was delicious, just like my mother's chicken broth. The pittas were lovely (came with the gyros). The Greek salad was fresh and good (came with both). We left full having just had mains. The service was quick.

This is a classic diner that had everything we wanted for a breakfast stop. The corn beef hash was very good, their sausage was not your typical links, it was much better. The service was very friendly, organized and fast. Just a solid good place to go for a diner breakfast. We really liked the place.

Good, friendly service. Fresh, tasty breakfast. Basic breakfast menu. Lots of regulars. Flexible on mixing and matching.

Great place To eat stopped by and the menu is extensive and the bakery items made in site make you want to drool. Had a chef salad and it was fantastic my wife had the French onion soup and she thought it was very good.

We walked down from 38th to try this diner as the reviews made it sound so good. It was well worth seeking out and at least the walk back helped to burn off some of the calories. Great service with a smile and a nice diner atmosphere. Loads of menu choice and good advice from our waitress when we were initially tempted to over order. The eggs benedict were really good and the hungry man breakfast was a feast! The potato side was really good with onions and peppers making it so much better than you average hash brown side. Great service, great food, would highly recommend.

What a great place. This diner is so efficiently ran, attentive service, with a huge menu. Try the cherry pie, your mouth will love you for it.

Perfect American Diner with the best pancakes ever. It was great to experience this place for locals. We all ordered the pancakes and bacon with syrup. Great fuel for walking 25,000 steps 👍 great service good food and great people would definitely return. Thanks Malibu awesome breakfast 🥞

My wife scheduled a class at the Peloton studio in Chelsea so I decided to have some breakfast while she was there and the Malibu was across the street. I gave it higher marks because of the atmosphere and staff more than anything. The omelet was good, nothing extraordinary but the staff was really good, the restaurant was clean and I swear the bathroom was the nicest one i have ever seen in a NYC restaurant other than fine dining.

Found the Malibu diner by accident as we were strolling NYC looking for somewhere to have brunch. Staff are so so friendly, really made us feel welcome. My brother had the eggs Benedict, my mum had poached eggs with sausages and I had pancakes with bacon. All 3 dishes were perfect. Prices are really good and the diner atmosphere was very homely. Hopefully we have chance to return before flying home to England!

It is a diner. A typical NYC diner. Not spectacular but more than adequate. Good pickles...at least to my taste. Prices are reasonable for the neighborhood.

Nothing super special about this place, but the service is really good, the breakfast selections are many, and a good tasting traditional American breakfast. If you want a nice place to stop for breakfast, this is it.

Just enjoyed the Penbe Malibu, which is pasta with sausage, broccali and shiitake mushrooms in a garlic and oil sauce. The portion was generous and filling. The menu offered added chicken or shrimp, but the waitress said the regular version was big enough. It was delicious and came with soup or salad for less than $20. I felt rushed when the pasta arrived before I had finished the salad, but the waitress didnt hurry me after. I stayed for good decaf coffee. The place needs renovations and flies zoomed around my bread basket, but, otherwise, my dinner was ok .

A huge menu and one of the few diners in Chelsea. This place will do the job but nothing special. Good fries.

We went here looking to a good breakfast and had biscuits and gravy, a traditional eggs Benedict, and bacon and eggs with coffee. The coffee was just ok and the food was fine, but a bit pricey for what it is. The restaurant was clean and staff were friendly.

24/7 diner like in the cinema. Typical diner with long counter and seating niches, great atmosphere and guests from the neighborhood. Visit on Dec. 12 coffee was not even on the bill at first, then Green Omelette and Corned Beef Skillet. Totally delicious omelet with all kinds of greens (spinach, broccoli etc.) , Skillet a cracker. The potatoes were a bit boiled but delicious. That's as typical American breakfast as it gets in here. Gerardo was a great service. Prices really moderate for NY, $51 without tip.

George and his team are brilliant. Great atmosphere, food and service - typical American diner👍 Totally recommend

I only found this place two days before leaving New York even though it was almost in sight of my hotel. I had breakfast there twice and dinner once. Food was not fancy but was cooked to perfection. They don't skimp on the serving size. If you are staying in Chelsea, this is a very good dinning option for the traveller on a budget. The photo on this page was coincidently taken from the booth we sat in.

Was in NYC and needed breakfast and settled on the Malibu Diner. What a great choice. We n sooner sat down and the waitress was taking our drink orders and providing menus etc. Every member of the staff stopped to say good morning and asked if we needed anything. Food was ordered and delivered quickly despite a good size group and the local everyday business. There was a variety of breakfast from French toast to omelets to just eggs. All was delicious, waitress routinely checked on us and cleaned dishes as needed to make space on table. Just a fabulous way to start our day.

The hotel receptionist suggested this place to eat, the food was disappointing. The staff weren't particularly friendly, and this meal out in my first Diner was a big disappointment.

Great value, friendly fast service. Big portions and really tasty. A great destination when you’re on vacation.

Outstanding late night breakfast that hit the spot and great service! Would go back and highly recommend.

For at least 10 years I've walked right by it and never gone in because there's so many places to eat in Chelsea. Last week I had a craving for a Reuben so I decided to try it. It's a straightforward coffee shop with an updated interior (nothing to do with Malibu, by the way). The menu is extensive, so it's a good choice if everyone in your group wants something different, and very suitable for families. My best friend is a vegetarian and I am happy to say that she would have a good choice there as well. The manager greets you when you come in and says "Thank you!' when you leave. The service was polite and helpful but oddly not very attentive. The Reuben, french fries and coleslaw were really good. Even though I am a big eater, I only managed half of it and took the rest away. The ladies' room was spotless. On the way out I peered into the kitchen and it was admirably clean as well, and appeared to have been recently upgraded. By the way, they accept American Express.

Feeding all blind people from the care center next door.Couldnt recommend it any more highly .try pancakes, eggs, anything you can fancy. Very clean huge portions located at 21st street and 7th , Great place to start the day .

The breakfast menu is extensive and full of great diner options. The pancakes/waffles had a great buttermilk tang and the bacon was perfectly cooked. One quick inexpensive choice can be from the list of breakfast sandwiches.

We ate here for breakfast 3 times on our recent trip. The service was efficient and friendly and the food very nice. Good value and very convenient for the 23rd st 1 train subway station. Would definitely visit next time we're in the city.

The portions are generous but the taste is not the most delicious. The service was good from the waiters and they speak Spanish. We ordered Chicken Marsala and the chicken was very delicious but the pasta had no flavor. Still, it is a good option when you are already very hungry.

Found this diner not too far from the hotel what a gem of a place breakfast was awesome very fresh food and large portions i think we managed to try quite a lot of the menu the pancakes with fresh fruit are to die for as are the waffles cooked breakfast was ok but an odd way of serving food with everything coming on seperate plates and all at once instead of putting poached eggs on buttered toast it is served on the side in a little bowl with water in it although I have to say the eggs were perfectly poached scrambled eggs came up more like an omelette but again delicious the only thing I didn't like was the potatoes were virtually cold which seems to be the norm in other diners as well We did go once for dinner in the evening and I wish we could have gone more often it was delicious and enormous portions and the bonus was they were all such lovely people nothing too much trouble.

Ate here twice, dinner and lunch. Great food, good price, great attentive quick service and good atmosphere. Thank you.

We were three persons and we liked the place. We went to have dinner one day and also to have breakfast another day. Food is good, nothing special but well done and fast. Dishes are plentiful and the attention is nice. For breakfast, we had croissants and they were nice. It's a good place to go.

Service at the Malibu is fast and friendly.Food id typical diner fare. Not super gourmet, but very enjoyable. The prices are reasonable.

I was so happy to find this great diner right around the corner from the hotel we were staying at. We ended up eating here for breakfast and dinner on our last full day in NYC. The food at both meals was fantastic. They have a big extensive menu, the staff were super friendly and attentive, and it's very clean and comfortable. The toughest part was narrowing down what to order. We'd love to come back on our next stay in the city.

I went there jetlagged when I woke up in the middle of the night. It has the authentic American diner wibe, Nice people and good food - All good

If you want to have a real American breakfast (the one you have seen in movies) and a menu where is lot to choose from go to Malibu Diner. This diner was quite close to our hotel and we tried it once and ordered quite a lot. But you can eat much lighter there too. A good restaurant in its own genre. Food was nicely done. Service was nice. We also tried it for late night snack. Cost of breakfast or three persons with tips USD 125.

I love diners, but did not like this one. Tossed salad wine fine but cheap Sysco dressing. The Chicken Scampi came out entirely different than the menu described. Service was fine. A diner should be lively with great classic food. This one was not. I will try a different one next time.

Our hotel recommended Malibu Diner for breakfast. The diner décor looks like an old-time type diner and in fact, has been in business for 50 years. The servers were all nice and efficient and the manager came over and talked to us for a short time and he was very friendly and great to talk to. The food was very good and the portion size was very good. I would eat here again.

This is my favorite breakfast place in NYC. The food is great no matter the meal, but I prefer breakfast. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. The prices are great for the portions.
Gorgeous breakfast
Had a lovely breakfast, kids loved their very first American breakfast and we are returning for our 2nd visit this morning. They wanted to have every meal there but we wanted to try other establishments!
