had lasagna, wine and it was great, not too far from out hotel, corner spot great views of the busy city .

We had a lovely dinner under heating on the curbside. The service was friendly and the Cesar Salad and lasagna was amazing.

Four of us had a nice meal here, but we were super crammed in at a small table. Even by NY standards, seating was tight. Places was packed and service was understandably slow. Food was very good, but it's not a good place to have a relaxing dinner or try to have a conversation because it's very busy and loud.

I love this family owned, female owned business. We enjoyed our meal, Eggplant parm was amazing, homemade bread and delicious house red wine from Italy. Highly recommend. We sat out front to enjoy the city vibes and people watch

If you’re a tourist - this place will drive you mad!! Food was plain and nothing special despite restaurant being recommended by a local. It doesn’t know if it’s a restaurant or bar as locals sit at the bar having noisy and animated discussions whilst you are adjacent trying to have a nice quiet meal!! All that aside and as mentioned in other reviews the bill is where I got really annoyed! The waitress “told us” she had added the tip in advance…25%!! No choice, no discussion, no decision for the customer!! In addition they also added 3.5% as we paid by credit card…the only place this happened whilst in NYC…quite simply outrageous!! Hell’s Kitchen has a multitude of restaurants which are nicer and cheaper and don’t take you for a ride…I’d suggest visiting them!!

I really wanted to like this place more than I did since it came highly recommended by a friend who comes here every-time they are in NYC. They were able to accommodate us when we showed up about 30 minutes early for our reservation which was great because our girls were hungry! Everyone was pleasant front he hostess to the wait staff. One hostess even brought a pen and paper over to my youngest daughter so she could draw when she started to get antsy. And we were grateful! Now for the food. First, the pizza is terrific! My youngest got the cheese pizza and it was very tasty. Not with perfectly melty cheese. The chicken Marsala was also really good. My friend had raved about to, saying it tastes like candy... and it does have a sweetness, but it wa s just okay to me. Of course, I am not usually one to order Chicken Marsala. In this instance, I only did it because she raved so much about it. My oldest also ordered it but she didn't like it so thank goodness for the extra pizza!! The garlic bread was really heavy on the pesto and did not have a good flavor. My husband ordered the Penne con Pollo. The chicken was dry and the sauce was almost non-existent so he was not a fan. He also ordered a Naples Negroni and the gin pour was so heavy it was hard to enjoy. The atmosphere and ambiance were all good and they had live music which was nice. We will probably give it another try in the future. Just maybe different menu options. The people and the environment were too pleasant to not give it a second chance :)

Going to NYC to see Chicago (great show) and we found this restaurant was in walking distance to theater and looked good. When we arrived, Connie greeted us and made us feel like we had been there numerous times. Our cocktails were outstanding...probably the best Manhattan I have had in 10 years!! Appetizers Fried Calamari, Zucchini and Shrimp Cocktail all delicious. There were 6 of us and we all had different meals from Gnocchi, Lasagna, Fettuccini Alfredo, Penne Vodka and Veal Parm. Every meal was outstanding. We highly recommend and will go back on our next trip to NYC!!

This is a hidden gem not far from times square, about 2 blocks away. Portions are huge, and food is amazing! The atmosphere is very cozy and romantic. If you do not like sitting close to people, you might not enjoy this place. If you are looking for a romantic date night, this place is it!

True authentic Italian food in a nice tiny restaurant open to the street Best vongole on linguine, not too oily Sale for veal scalopini White house wine pretty good

We had a pre theatre meal in here and the food was excellent. Equaled only by the superb service. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had a wonderful pre-theater meal here, along with fun tasty cocktails. Quick service, large portions and all of our food was really good. Would absolutely come here again!

We had researched this restaurant & read many reviews. When we got there we found the wine list to be totally different to the one on the website. The prices were almost double when we showed the owner she said they were out of date. My question is why hasn’t it been updated. Admission of guilt was when we were given complimentary sweets. The food was good not great & servings too large.

On our first night in New York for our honeymoon we were wanting a delicious Italian meal. We ended up at Mama Mia. We were encouraged to come in by a lovely lady and we found the staff very nice. However the food was mediocre unfortunately. The owner passed our table around 12 times and at one point virtually stood over our table scrutinising the staff. The owner did not once acknowledge us or even smile which I found incredibly rude.

While visiting the city, a local suggested we try this restaurant. We're so glad we did! Everything was fresh and delicious. We ate a bit early at 6:00 to avoid heavy crowds, as it's not a huge place. Staff was very nice and attentive. We would definitely eat here again.

We discovered this little jewel in a trip to NYC 11 years ago and couldn’t wait to return for the spaghetti and meat balls. Thankfully the spaghetti was just as good as before! Perfectly seasoned with two large meatballs, a real treat. My wife and I split a salad and tiramisu, and we split a bottle of wine with our friends. Only negative I can come up with is not about the food or service (which were outstanding), but the dim lighting. We needed our phone flashlight to read the menu. But I can look over that for the wonderful food!

Firstly, we were sat near two doors for the restrooms, which we got full view of each time someone went in or came out - there were tables right next to the doors which I'm very glad we weren't sat at. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was lovely. Sadly the service was pretty slow, and also pretty expensive - with gratuity being added on, and then being asked to leave a tip on the card machine - be prepared!

Good atmosphere in the restaurant. There was someone playing music outside and there was a wonderful buzz of life. The food was nothing special. We had pasta with mushrooms and chicken and pasta with meatballs. Both lacked flavor and did not appear to be fresh ingredients.

The service was unprofessional and the food did not meet expectations. Overall, a bad experience. We will not return and I do not recommend it.

We have been going to Mama Mia for years, and our experience recently was so horrible, we will never return. We arrived at 5:45 for our reservation, and no tables were available. We explained our reservation time was to allow us to make a 7:30 curtain time. Restaurants in New York are used to this and accommodate. Not this time. We were not seated until after 6. Drinks took another 15 minutes and soup and salad appeared at 6:30. We reminded them numerous times that we had a showtime. It almost seemed they were delaying on purpose while falsely saying sorry. Our entrees arrived at 7 which of course was too late. I retutned mine, and my daughter and husband had theirs boxed not to be eaten until 11 when we arrived home. At no time was there any compensation or attemp to improve our experience. The end of our visits to a restaurant we used to love.

Warm welcome and prompt service. Food was delicious although could have been a little hotter. Overall a good choice and we would recommend.

This restaurant is a good option for a pre-theater meal steps away from some of the biggest Broadway shows. The fare is mainly Italian but their New York strip steak also does not disappoint. Big cocktail selection. Reservation is strongly recommended.

Absolutely disgusting staff and management were engaged with a man who was discussing gay sexual acts at the bar and whilst we were having our meal at no point did the staff address or try to disengage They were happy chatting about prono acts We won’t be back actually felt sick more about the graphic details

For Europeans their food echos south Italy, but it is not at all the same. More like supermarkt tv dinner quality. And we do not want to be mean. We had string beans in a nice marinara style tomato sauce, beans seemed overcooked or even canned. Not sure. We choose pastas as mains and had one special: Sicilian baked with eggplant >> did not seem oven baked but micro waved. The other dish was penne con pollo, this had a weird taste relating to the oil used. Portions were huge, Pasta was overcooked and not at all ‘al dente’. Chianti wine a bit rough. Not sure if the cook was even Italian or from Italian descent. Staff was very friendly, even to us ‘tourists’.

Nothing enjoyed about this place. Eggplant Parmigiano was bland and lacking any garlic or herbs. The pasta in all our dishes did not taste fresh. Our waitress's banter could be classed as racist. We all regretted choosing to it here. The worst meal in our otherwise brilliant week in NYC.

We came here after a show on a Sunday night and it was absolutely amazing. The restaurant was quiet and intimate and the food was delicious. Definitely a place I will recommend to everyone and visit every time I’m in New York!

House dressing on saled was fantastic and highlight of the meal. Pizza was good. Nice place for lunch.

Excellent brunch deal on Sunday. Food was great. Nice service and atmosphere. Got the goat cheese salad. My friend got the chicken and apple salad pileed high with chicken. The fettucine Alfredo awas amazing. Great Bloody Mary, Bellini. Highly recommend.

Book in advance as it gets very busy. Mozzarella Sticks, Fried Ravioli and Garlic Bread were delicious. Pesto Pasta was fab- wish there was more! And all the meals were very presentable. Would recommend for an escape from the American cuisine.

Popped in for a 7PM dinner and really enjoyed it. We have the penne pasta with chicken in vodka sauce and also a linguine with garlic/olive oil. Both dishes could have required a little more spice to it, but certainly wouldn't keep me from returning. The garlic bread was excellent. And when my initial glass of wine was terrible, they replaced it no issues. I'd go back.

We had a lovely meal. I had the linguine with clams-very good. They have a good wine list and a friendly staff. Enjoy!

Last day, family lunch. Kids want burgers, I don’t... We found Mama Mia which has the best of all worlds. The best homemade fries I’ve had in a long time too... Really nice place.

Delicious dinner! We were a party of 7 for dinner on a fall Saturday evening - service was very welcoming and efficient. Had a table next to the window. Comfortable. Spaghetti and meatballs were delicious. A shrimp and pasta dish had the biggest shrimp ever. We were welcomed by the owner who was so grateful to be serving guests again indoors. Restrooms were very clean. Intimate neighborhood place. Highly recommend.

Well nothing good can be said about this restaurant ... overpriced ,tasteless ,greasy microwaved . Don't waste your money you will be so disappointed . Only good thing apart from leaving was the waiter was pleasent

We went for a farewell dinner to our trip, the place is beautiful and romantic for dinner. Great service, reasonable food, good but not to be missed. But it was still worth it, it was a very pleasant night.

They jump on us from the entrance, dark / hushed atmosphere Correct map But it remains expensive for simple Italian cuisine and little sought after. For the same price, there are best restaurants

My husband and I were in NYC for a few days for the first time and last night we weren’t sure of where to go for dinner so we walked around Hells Kitchen and found Mama Mia’s. As soon as we walked in we knew we were staying, it smelled so good! So we sat at the bar and met Raphael the bartender who was so awesome! He took great care of us and all of the other patrons at the bar. We both had the Fruitti de Mare which was outstanding. We met Mama who was a sweetie and also Connie (we share the same name) and had a few laughs with her. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back next time we’re in the city!

We had reservations for 4:30, earlier than a usual dinner, but we had theatre tickets for 7:00 and were trying to beat the crowd. Our female waiter was immediately asking for our order and rushing us. When we got our food we were offered grated cheese, and had to wait and re-ask to get it. The food was Typical, nothing special. We ordered coffee and dessert and after 20 minutes ask again and canceled our dessert. We finally got our coffee with the check. The waiter was terrible. Someone should tell her to smile and be friendly. With so many restaurants in NYC we will definitely not be going back!

After as many years in business as this restaurant they must be doing something right. It has a nice corner location. Pleasant outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Cute dining room. And great history in the neighborhood. The service was slow. I did not mind this. I was watching the world go by on the sidewalk. This could be a concern for some diners. I suspect my pasta entree was microwaved. It tasted fine. But just fine. Nothing overwhelming. It didn't taste like fresh made pasta. Or even as good as an Annie's microwave pasta bowl. But it was fine. I skipped dessert because the desserts being served around me looked store bought, not fresh. I may be entirely off base here. If they have an outdoor table, and you'd like a nice glass of wine and some food and you are in no rush. Come here. Keep keep expectations low.

We were so lucky on a Friday night to sit outside and people watch while enjoying a fabulous meal! The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. All our food was excellent, timely, and hot! We met a few of the family members who own this restaurant and they were fantastic!! Highly recommend this place!

We asked a local for a recommendation near our show, and we got this one, only based on location (we did not know that). Nothing was good. 1) when it comes to ambiance, it was very crammed, even for NY standards; they put tables where they shouldn’t to cram it even more, and the whole back room had a front row seat to the bathroom. 2) The service was terrible; our food took forever; 1 hour after seating our food was not there, waitress said it’s coming, it’s coming, until I made her go look. She dissapeared for about 10 minutes and finally appeared with our pastas, which, leads me to 3) they were tasteless. They could not even salt their food right! We could not eat it, but we paid for it, with the 3.5% up charge for using a credit card. Who does that anymore???? Redeeming quality?? If I had to come up with one, I had a decent glass of wine…

We wandered over late in the evening after a night cruise. After wandering past lots of restaurants, we stumbled in here, tired and chilled. Everything was absolutely perfect! We had calamari and mushroom ravioli and they were both transcendent. The wine the server recommended was perfect. Then we tried the tiramisu. I could have eaten that forever. Best meal ever. Service was great. Atmosphere was wonderful. Food was perfect. I wish I lived in NYC so I could eat here every night.

We stumbled upon this place by accident on our most recent trip to New York and it will be top of the list on our next visit. Absolutely stunning 10/10 both the food and the staff. Our server Thiago was an absolute ledge and tweaked our food to how we like it with no complaints. Got right involved in the banter too! Can’t wait to go back and tell others to go visit. Cheers

We were shown to our table for 4 in the back room. The temperature was comfortably cool but being a smaller room the one other occupied table of 4 was so loud I got a headache. We told the hostess and we were immediately moved to the front room which was more occupied and quieter. appetizer personal pizza was a delicious start for four of us. My pasta vongole with white sauce was excellent and had many PEI whole clams. Three others in party enjoyed their various dishes as well. Waitstaff was very helpful in getting us served so we could make our show on time. I would definitely return.

We live in Hells Kitchen where there are many restaurants to choose from. One of our favorites is Mama Mia in Midtown 44th and 9th avenue. The food is very tasty, the menu has a great selection and the portions are big enough to share. The service was excellent thanks to Timea. She has an awesome personality and she knows how to maintain a clientele. Thanks to Timea we had a memorable time. We will definitely come back, order from this restaurant. We loved the pizza, chicken parm and spaghetti meatballs. I highly recommend it and ask for Timea.

Food was very nice tasty , I thought it was a little pricey for what we had ! Beware that you check your bill as they put the tip on the bill ! And therefore you put a extra tip on top ! Luckily for us we noticed

As you likely know, there are a lot of Italian restaurants in Hell's Kitchen. Mama Mia has the benefit of tables outside on the sidewalk during the pleasant months of weather. We were seated inside. The noise level was very high. But this simply meant that people were enjoying themselves. The menu is fairly typical of most Italian venues in the neighbourhood. Likewise the decor. We settled on a caesar salad, mushroom ravioli and baked penne with eggplant. While the pasta dishes were satisfying I would advise to avoid the caesar at all cost. It was very pedestrian and it seemed that the croutons came out of a box and not prepared by the kitchen. Service throughout by Tiago was very pleasant. He made it an enjoyable evening. He did not rush us and treated us kindly. So, Mama Mia will fulfill your food appetite just don't expect any wow moments. But they've probably being doing what they do for many years and who am I to complain ?

My wife and I were strolling around exploring Hells Kitchen on our visit from the UK, when she said I want to eat here the food smells great! Even without a reservation, they were able to seat us. Good choices on the menu and we decided to share some calamari as an appetiser. Being used to UK size portions we expected a few pieces each what we got was a large pile of tender squid in a crisp coating that would have served four over here. For my entree, I had meatballs and spaghetti and my other half had pasta Alfredo with chicken. My meatballs were juicy and tasty with a good size portion of spaghetti, I absolutely loved it. My wife's meal was delicious (I had a taste) rich and creamy. Again large portions and neither of us could finish our plates so we missed out on dessert. Nice chilled atmosphere and great food. If we return to New York in the future, we will definitely be returning.

Family of five with no reservation. Staff accommodating to all requests. Good food and convenient location. Would eat here again.

We had just arrived in Manhattan and our shuttle driver had to go around the block after missing our hotel when we spotted this quaint restaurant; so we took a walk to eat there, and we’re not disappointed. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the price was right.

In town for business. Slipped in and was not disappointed at all! Had the chicken and mushroom with Sangiovese IT WAS AMAZING. Great service, fast, and friendly. Only complaint was children next to me were very loud. Not the fault of the restaurant! Highly recommend.

Walked in on our way home - had been there once before a few years ago and remember it being mediocre. Pizza was microwaved; penne all vodka was actually very good. From our English accents they must have thought we were tourists (we live in Manhattan) so they tried the old double-tip scam on the bill. Lucky I spotted it but I bet they make a good profit from unsuspecting tourists that don't notice. I raised it with the server and her 'apology' was so lame that it must be a regular tactic of theirs. I've attached a copy of my check. I'd never go anywhere again that tries this on, however goos it is. Disappointing, immoral, but probably not illegal...

Food was good. Huge menu with lots of choices. Cozy atmosphere but it was kind of crowded / not a lot of room to maneuver. Recommend the Pasta Del Giornio - it was delicious.

For our last night in New York we looked for a nice family run italian restaurant to cap our holiday off. Anna and her staff in hells kitchen, could not have treated us better. No request was too much. Cant thank you enough. This was a perfect final meal for a perfect holiday. Thank you.

Good pre-theatre dinner. Ordered the spaghetti and the manicotti. Generous portions. Friendly and attentive service. Atmosphere conducive for conversation. Moderately priced. Will definitely eat here again.

The Manicotti was the best we have had. The duet band created a very nice ambiance for the evening. We learned the couple are there on Friday and Saturday evenings. The Tiramisu was light and wonderful. We will certainly visit again soon. The service slowed as the restaurant filled. We were there to enjoy the evening and were in no hurry.

Great place with very friendly and fast service. The customer service was excellent and the food was delicious!

Ate here with my wife before show. Tables were VERY close together and even though proof of vaccine was scrutinized, this was a little too close for comfort. We were near the door, and with that came blasts of cold air as the door opened. They were clearly short-staffed like lots of places, but they did their best to compensate. Food was fine, nothing special but decent.

This restaurant is near Times Square but has more of a neighborhood vibe. Many people coming in hugged & kissed “Mama. “ She even introduced herself to us & told us she is one of the chefs. My husband enjoyed the spaghetti & huge meatballs which made us think of the ones his family made. I had the Chicken 44 which was penne with chicken slices, mushrooms, spinach, garlic, goat cheese & olive oil. I loved it & will try making it at home. The half carafe of Montepulciano was also very good.

No big surprises on the menu but quite a few choices; prices are reasonable; service was pleasant but not especially prompt in delivering the food once ordered. The food was somewhere between good and very good (but not what I would consider "excellent"). Best part might be its location if you are looking for a place convenient to most of the theaters in the Broadway area.

Nice, quiet restaurant that we ate at prior to a 7 pm curtain. As with every restaurant we tried, the staff was very attentive and served us quickly. Good, hot, ample food portions. Seemed like there was a lively bar crowd in the rear of the restaurant.

When in NYC this place is a must to visit. The food is exquisite, the staff very attentive & the ambience fantastic. I highly recommend the seafood ravioli - amazing.

We stopped by after entertainment for a late dinner. I was not particularly hungry and just had the home made meatball appetizer. Fabulous. i only wish I was hungrier so I could have ordered more. Others at the table were equally happy with their meals. The other couple inadvertently ordered the wrong wine, or at least not what they intended. They were surprised when the waiter brought them a couple glasses of white. He immediately offered to replace it. They explained that it was their mistake and they would drink it. He wouldn't hear of it and insisted on bringing them what they thought they ordered. Overall this was a real fine dinner. The staff was great, the atmosphere just right and the food was great as well as being a great value.

Very good food and good service, we will come again, next time we come to New York. 🍕🍝🍤🍷🇩🇰🇺🇸🇩🇰

Lovely evening with live jazz. I had linguine with clams and marinara and my partner Kev had chicken in Marsala over penne- both delicious. The owner is friendly and welcoming and the whole experience was great - we’ll definitely be back.

Excellent!!!! Someone recommended to us to go there and we are glad we did. The lasagna was magnificent and the Sangria was amazing.

They gave us a more expensive bottle of wine than we asked for so when bill came we asked them to change it. At first owner tried to negotiate and go mid range saying it was our error and split the difference, we said no and the she came back and lied to us about how much it cost her (Google search showed it was at least half of what she told,us) and then she said she would charge her employee for the error which was $27? Now if she lied to us that is despicable if she actually charged her employee the no one should ever go to that restaurant from any review site. Family business but if that is the way they act then I’d encourage you to skip this one and go somewhere else. Food average but staff not very attentive. You can find better.

The food was ok...On par with what you would find in any pseudo Italian restaurant in NYC. The catch however comes with the bill. As pointed out by other reviews, a 20% automatic gratuity is applied to the bill (even for small parties). In our next trip to NYC we will bring our business elsewhere...If you're looking for a place to eat, 46th Restaurant Row is only two blocks away.

If visiting New York this is a must, lovely authentic Italian restaurant food was a high standard as was the service, I would advise to pre book as it gets very busy

We ate here before a show and could not have been happier! The restaurant is small, but what isn't in NYC. The food was amazing, authentic, and our server was kind enough to take time to suggest other attractions to visit in the city even though she was busy with other tables. Favorite restaurant of our trip by far.

We chose this restaurant for dinner because it was a short walk from hotel and because it had good reviews. Prices were also very reasonable. Also, earlier in the day a very nice young woman came out as we passed to explain lunch options. It was very busy, server was very pleasant. Everything else was kind of fair. I guess you get what you pay for. Bread with butter on table ok. A chain like Carrabas does bread and dipping oil so much better. Calimari ok. Marsala overly sweet. Francese good. I like very lemony and it was. Overall, no need to go back. Anywhere America Italian.

Mama Mia is absolutely my favourite restaurant in Hells Kitchen. It's one place I have to go to everytime I'm in New York! The service, food, and atmosphere is fantastic each and every time! My favourite thing to order is the Chicken Parm, it's the best I've ever had! The Caesar salad, and bruschetta is amazing too. You will not be disappointed with whatever you may order. Got to meet the owner Connie after all these years of coming here (my parents have been coming here for the last 15-20 years), and it's our favourite place to go for dinner! See you next time!

It can be embarrassing to be caught mmming by a server. But looking at other tables...I was hardly alone. Prior to returning to this restaurant, I had to deeply question my motive, after all I’d run Central Park’s perimeter almost every day, so why should I backslide on my hard earned new year’s weight loss? Simple-taste! the food is healthy, it’s good, wand served with pride, plus you get the ambiance of this history-laden Hell’s Kitchen fixture told to you by the matriarch herself, and one of her twin daughters . Whether you’re a local, need a nearby place to eat after a show, or want to cap your vacation with a great memory, treat yourself to your own private special occasion and eat here!

Came across this restaurant as we stayed in hotel nearby , food was tasteful and portions of good size , staff were very friendly and professional, restaurant had a nice ambience for dinner

Came here on a weekend evening with no reservation expecting to be told there would be a wait... there was a table ready. Good food, reasonable prices. Good service.

After a play a friend & I decided to give Mama Mia a try. Neither of us had been there but the restaurant has been around for decades, which I thought said a lot. A few other reviews I saw made me hesitate because they mentioned service issues. However we were fairly early (4:30) & there were a number of empty tables. The service was good but I can’t say our server was right on top of everything. We were in no hurry anyway. Both of us really liked our selections. My friend had a shrimp dish in some sort of light sauce and I had the eggplant parmigiana. I enjoyed the red sauce; it was thicker the way I prefer and had a good flavor. The pasta was done a bit al debate the way we preferred also. I think if the place isn’t packed and you can spare a little time that you’ll get a good meal here in a classic old style NYC restaurant.

We arrived at around 2.30 and the restaurant only had a few diners, so we were quickly served and seated. My wife ordered a Chicken Caesar salad and I opted for the lasagna, I had two local Bud beers and my wife one glass of Prosecco. My lasagna was excellent...rich tomato taste with a good amount of meat, the salad looked great and I’m told tasted good as well So all in all a great experience...however beware of NYC pricing the bill inc tax and tip was a wee bit short of $90. I’ve been here a week and boy NY ain’t cheap!

My wife and I were in town for a broadway show and decided to eat here before the show. We were not disappointed. The staff was very nice and service was good. The food was excellent. We definitely want to go back!

This was seriously the most AMAZING experience in a restaurant ever!!!! Not only was the food AMAZING but the family is as well!!!!! Connie and Cristina are soooooo sweet and Mama Mia is the sweetest lady ever! They really make you feel welcome and by the time you are finished you feel as though you are part of the family! Thank you again for welcoming us and creating a new memory!!!

My sister took my friend and I here while we were visiting the city and craving carbs. It did not disappoint! The restaurant was very laid back and had great decor. I had the mushroom ravioli with goat cheese and it was to die for! Will definitely return in the future.

Our food was delicious! Spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna and chicken eggplant rollatini. The food came out piping hot so much steam coming off the plates. This is definitely authentic Italian food. Bread was also fresh, and service was good. On the 4th of July at 5 pm , not too busy. Which was great!

I stopped in, and had Chicken Eggplant Rollatini Parmigiana. It was delicious! They have indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was very nice. I can't wait to go back. If, you're looking for some freshly, made-to-order Italian food. This is the place. Enjoy!

Very satisfying meal for our group of 5. The meatballs were huge! Pasta was nicely done and service was attentive.

Mama Mia's is easy and delicious! Family owned and operated, you know they care. Easy to find, right on the corner of 44th and 9th, it is a great place for dinner before or after a show.

This ia a god spot for pre or post theater. The food is good and generous. The location is convenient to jazz clubs and theaters. I had the lasagna - very good!

We had a reservation which was held. It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived. The food was tasty, the menu diverse. I was pleased that the restaurant was small as opposed to a big chain restaurant. The only reason that I didn't give a 5 star review was there was only one waitress and she took orders for all the tables, meaning that service was slow.

A family of four with all different food tastes. The pizza was soggy and doughy, dripping with grease. Chicken masala was simply inedible; we were told it would be slightly sweeter due to the white wine, but it may as well have been a desert. Spaghetti and meatballs were simply bland, the sauce just from a packet. No flavour at all. The cannoli was similar, simply lacking in flavour. Waiter was nice enough but would definitely not ever be returning. Very dark and dim setting. The meals were expensive enough as it is! More than we had been paying previous nights elsewhere, on top of that an automatic service charge of 20% was added!!! Although we usually do tip like the norm in New York, we as a family thought this was disgraceful. Especially where this was not made clear. Being the food was nice, it would’ve not been an issue. Would advise to stay away from this place!

This restaurang has fairly good food but are a little bit to expensive compared with other restaurangs in the same area.

We popped in for a drink and a warm up early evening. Friendly staff, no pressure to eat, nice atmosphere.

Decor is quite tired and possibly original feature. Service was fairly prompt and unremarkable. We had Lasagna and Spaghetti & Meatballs (Mama’s Way). Expecting a collection of golf-ball sized meatballs, I was somewhat surprised when two baseball sized meatballs were delivered. Spaghetti was liberally doused in bland tomato sauce. Similarly, my wife’s Lasagna (ground beef and ricotta) had a bland tomato sauce. There are other Italian restaurants, nearby, that offer more tasty alternatives.

Seriously avoid at all costs there are plenty of other places to eat around Hells Kitchen. They lost our order about 3 times and had to wait over an hour for our meal to arrive. Food is nothing special. Wait staff are like lost sheep and a swirl of confusion and chaos. They even were on the cusp on running out of food at like 8pm on a sat night.

We always dine here when we are in town. Family owned, amazing fresh homemade Italian food. It is a special place, with a wonderful, intimate atmosphere! We are never disappointed.

Generally OK. They tried charging us $74 dollars for a $47 bottle of wine and didn't deal with it well. Very expensive, as are most places in the area though

Excellent food. Good atmosphere and friendliness but unreported charges on the account. Left bitter taste in the food

Found this hidden gem on 9th street in Manhattan. I was greeted at the door and given a lovely table at he restaurant. The staff and service excellent but the food a amazing. We had fresh mussels for a appetizer and the red sauce it came with and incredible. So fresh and garlicky. Homemade ingredients made by the mama in the kitchen. The pasta dishes were a work of art with unusual ingredients you don’t see in other Italian restaurants. Found the prices to be average but worth every penny. I’ll be back on my next visit to NYC.

Opening in 1971 this warm and welcoming restaurant Is a wonder to enjoy. Fresh sauces, salads, and savory specials define a kitchen steeped in tradition. No finer spaghetti and meatballs exist in Manhattan. Lessons in service and ambiance have carried through for nearly 50 years. Highly Recommend!

Late afternoon lunch prior to an early evening play. A terrific Chicken Caesar Salad washed down with a nice glass of Prosecco. Partner said he thoroughly enjoyed the Veggie 44 - loads of artichokes. We go to NYC regularly for plays and will definitely be back.

Bene, Grazia! Delicious chicken & vegetable soup, Vodka Penne w/Chicken main course, and Tiramisu (the latter was absolutely to die for). Great traditional atmosphere & ambience and delightfully friendly service by Irene (from Romania)!

We visited this restaurant last Saturday evening, first impressions were good, it was lovely and inviting, we were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant and seated, the lighting was extremely poor and we had to put our phones on to be able to read the menus!! Our drinks our was taken, 5 alcoholic drinks and one Diet Coke, when they arrived the Diet Coke was in fact a regular coke, when we pointed this out, we were told it's sweeter because it comes out the pump and not a bottle, what nonsense, it was sweeter because it was the wrong drink, being a diabetic I know the difference. It was eventually changed but they didn't like being told they were wrong. Dinner was served, and the waiter managed to spill all the sauce from my seafood spaghetti all over me and my new Gucci scarf, not impressed, the owner took it away to wipe it, but when it came back it still stunk of fish.... so couldn't wear that for the rest of the trip, but what annoyed me was there was no really apology or even sent over a drink as a goodwill gesture. However the food was very nice, we all enjoyed what we'd ordered, but it was also a little pricey I think.

Had a 6 o’clock reservation and arrived early. Stood on top of customers who were eating while waiting for 45 minutes till seated. We ordered right away and waited for over 35 minutes till we got the food. The food was mediocore. We did not get the food till 7:15 and had to rush to get to the theater on time. There are too many good restaurants to settle on this one.

Great food, expensive but then all restaurants are in New York. Lovely warm bread served and I had a tasty lasagna.

Limoncello! Christina was like being served by my sister. Food was like my grandma's. Seafood special was loaded and my wife loved the Shrimp Oreganata. We had a great day at the (scottish) Tartan Day parade and on the way thee we smelled this place. We stopped on the way home and loved it. We will be back.

Do not go here. We ordered the veal Parm special and they charged us $40 for it. For a veal parm that would not only be absurd at an expensive restaurant but in this case, there was barely any veal to it. Prime example of a tourist trap in the theater district. Last time I got sick after eating here, and this time we got taken advantage of with a ridiculously priced meal. Even the waiter agreed with us.

First time here. Quickly sat, served and fed. Servers were great and so was the food. Great location and ambiance. Would visit again!

Small restaurant, very comfortable, with an excellent menu, lots of seafood, the food is fresh and the service was very good and the servers were pleasant, the prices are quite reasonable

My girlfriend and I were in for dinner on our last night of the holiday. Our sides came out far too early, they were frozen by the time the main came out. My girlfriends food was cold, had to be sent back. The man was really not happy about this. He snatched my girlfriends plate away from her. We asked to pay a 10% tip, instead of 20%, and they were fuming about this. The waiter chased us out shouting sarcastic words as we left. Absolutely childish. If it was worth a 20% tip, we would pay it no problem, but with the man being ignorant, there was no chance.

A local couple recommended this restaurant. It was delicious. We had the fettuccine alfredo and the fettuccine champignon and a margharita pizza. All were very good. The service was quick. Medium priced

We dropped in around 5:30 and were seated promptly. We were just ahead of a rush that saw the place fill up in about 30 minutes. Our server was polite and nice. The menu selection is standard North American Italian favorites. We had the Chicken Parm, Chicken Marsala, and Spaghetti and Meatballs. All were ok but we've had better. Service was ok. The place is near Times Square and some theaters so it is convenient. Not a hidden gem or anything but filling. They charge a 3% credit card surcharge.

Visited here on a Sunday afternoon at about 2/3pm on my first day in New York. Despite being very busy they welcomed me as a walk-in as one person, even though they get walk ins regularly and could have easily seated 2 people at my table. I had a relaxing meal, didn’t feel rushed and had time to sit, digest and finish my drink once my meal had finished. I had spaghetti meatballs which was delicious and very filling. I also enjoyed the family story behind the restaurant, explained in the menu. The staff all were friendly and smiling and clearly work hard running around cleaning up tables etc, they never stop moving. Lovely food, close to Broadway and away from all the noisy big chaotic places.

We were visiting New York in September, 2019 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We went to Mama Mia’s for our anniversary dinner. The service was excellent, and the food was scrumptious! We had the pleasure of meeting Mama, who told us that the restaurant has been up and running for 48 years!

If you want great Italian food at a decent New York price this is the place to go. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the atmosphere perfect. It’s a great place to go before or after a show and we liked it so much we went two nights in a row. Our server, Cristina, was delightful and engaging. We were very happy with our meals both nights.

This family owned gem just celebrated 48 years! The owner - Mama - is 84 years young & still runs the place! Although we did not have the pleasure of meeting her, we heard she comes around quite often. Last Sunday my boss, myself & three coworkers had the pleasure of capping off our trade show weekend with a great Italian dinner experience! We enjoyed 4 hours in a very friendly atmosphere in this cute, cozy restaurant managed by Mama’s daughter, Connie. We loved her!!! She’s charming, welcoming and even had some wonderful words of wisdom! Our dining experience began with very tasty appetizers: Calamari & fried mozzarella. We polished them off in a hurry! Suzanne & I both ordered an incredible seafood pasta, but I had mine over fresh veggies. Very pleasing to the pallet! I do not remember what the other 3 ordered, but they raved about each dish! If you are in town, around Times Square looking for an authentic, Italian restaurant - Mama Mia’s is your must go to!!!

Was there last Saturday night. Had a reservation but - consistent with other comments - the place was busy and I would have had to wait - also heard other diners were having difficulty in getting food. Host offered the bar. Bartender was great - kept things moving, food and drink coming and managed to juggle everything amazingly well. Food was really very good.

Food was more than OK. Had to ask 3 X for a refill of drinks. Automatic gratuity of 25% and then an unannounced extra 3.5% for using a credit card. In sum, not worth the stop, plenty of other restaurants to discover in the area.

Prices are very reasonable for NYC. Large portions so you could easily share. Make a reservation because it gets crowded.

my friend and i asked our hotel where a great place to have italian food was and this restaurant was less then a block away from where we were staying. our waiter was delightful and funny. pur food was superb. the chicken francese i ordered was so flavorful and delicious. it was just enough to fill me up. the place is very clean and well maintained and has a bit of class to it. i would go again on the next visit.

Average food and service, but not at all worth the money. Had to wait a while for the food and a long time for the bill. The service was nothing special, and yet they added 20% tip to the bill by default. They also charge a 3.5% fee for using a credit card

I rated this a 5 because the food was excellent and once our lost order was found the service was excellent as well. A great organic greens salad, very good spaghetti and meatballs and a truly superb branzino fish dish.

Gorgeous food, great wine. Great staff. We sat down next to a really loud group of friends (having fun, how dare they?!) asked to move & we were offered another table straight away with no fuss. Our meals were all really tasty & beautifully cooked. Will definitely go back if we’re here again 🇺🇸

On entry the menus are just throw all over a sofa by the door. I should've seen this as a sign and turned tail. In a half empty restaurant, we were seated by the toilets where it was clear we'd get jostled by people opening doors. I asked to move. The surly waiter said he'd have to ask. Five minutes later we were moved elsewhere (other subsequent guests were asked where they'd like to sit) We were served free bread which was cold and stale. We chose to share a starter of mozzarella garlic bread which was okay but had no cheese. The mains took over an hour to come. I get each dish is likely cooked to order but seriously? They were tasty but we've had better quality and value elsewhere. In fact I could cook better myself at home! We left $200 poorer with an enforced 20% tip. Would not recommend.

This is our go-to brunch; we have been here countless times. Ask for Timea who treats you right. The little chocolate and corn muffins are a tasty starter. I love the eggs sardou (poached eggs, artichoke hearts, spinach), but the burger, pasta (choice of pasta and sauces), and omelettes are all good. Special brunch drinks are low priced (I like the prosecco). End with coffee included. Lunches are well prepared but standard sandwiches and pastas. Dinner is excellent Italian fare. Just right for pretheater.

So good! The family that owns this restaurant are so kind and generous. I've eaten here a few times now and each time, they have not steered me wrong. I always ask, "What's great on the menu today" and each time, it has been fantastic. The meatballs are amazing... that was what I was told was fantastic and they were. I would not come here in a large group - it's a smaller family run business with excellent service. Please go and know you are supporting a local family from Hell's Kitchen.

I waited until the last minute to look for reservations for 5, before a show on Saturday Dec29. Everything showed booked online, but I called Mama Mia and they said they could squeeze us in at 5:30, perfect for an 8 pm show. We wanted authentic Italian with a varied menu that would please 5, and we were not disappointed. We had drinks at the bar while our table was being set, ample glasses of wine and my husband had a fireball Manhattan that he was really pleased with. Dinner started with the typical Italian bread and olive oil, we ordered calamari and Mamas meatballs for the table. Calamari was fresh and lightly crispy, meatballs were to die for, although the appetizer is only 2 balls, so we fought over bites between the 5 of us. Four of us ordered pasta dishes and one had pizza. All of the pastas came out literally steaming hot, and were absolutely delicious. I had the fettuccine with mushrooms, the cream sauce was excellent, slightly sweet and very creamy. My family raved about the penne vodka and the chicken parmigiana too. My husbands pizza was thin crust, fresh toppings, very close to pizza we had on the Italian coast. We topped it off with tiramisu and chocolate pie. The service was impeccable, everyone was so friendly, attentive and refilling our wine glasses! And we were done in time to walk to the theater at 7:30. I would highly recommend Mama Mia’s if you are looking for authentic home style Italian food and a “feel like family” service and atmosphere. We will go again when in NYC.

When we arrived and were seated, we then waited for 20 minutes for someone to come and take our drinks order. We then placed an order for food, and then told it would be another 30 minutes before it would be ready!! This was for a portion of Lasagne, not anything too difficult. We were later asked if we wanted dessert. I ordered a coffee, and my friend ordered a specialty coffee. My friend received her order, but I never received my coffee!! When we asked for the bill, they had the nerve to put a 20% service charge on it and then also requested a tip. We did not receive a good service at all, in fact very very poor. Needless to say we did not leave an additional tip. The restaurant was too crowded and so dark that we had to use the torch on our mobile phones to read the menu. We would NOT recommend this restaurant at all. Very disappointed as we had planned a nice meal for the last night of our holiday.

Warming place for a tasty dinner. You can find everything from the Italian kitchen with some specials.

Found another excellent Italian spot close to our hotel. Great food and great service. One of the owners (a group of daughters of the founder) waited on us. Very friendly with stories.

The best pizza we had in New York, great Italian pasta. Very careful about intolerances. Professional and very friendly staff. Clean.

The restaurant was very handy for our hotel but I'm afraid thats the best thing I can say about it .The seats were so cramped in. I was sat what felt like a thorofare. Every time a waiter or customer passed they banged my chair! The noise in there was awful with everybody being cramped in! if you want a peaceful meal you wont get it there! The food was very mediocre. Then came the bill with high service charge and extra charge because we were using a credit card. WE weren't happy. The waiter said the extra costs were because of covid they were making up for it!! Well I about lost the plot. He was most uncooperative. So in the end I think because we were making a point and he didn't want others to hear our complaint he cancelled the credit card bill and we paid cash minus the tip( I certainly wasn't leaving a tip after the waiters attitude and remarks ) and credt card charges and walked out..

Unplanned visit and well worth it. Greeted by a friendly host. Wait staff was very knowledgeable and patient. Gluten free pasta was perfect. My partner had the mussels with spaghetti and loved it. Portions are pretty large and came steaming hot! (Yay!).

We had the new year dinner at Mama Mia, it was simple but delicious. Gnocchi Marinara and Pasta del Giorno with a good red wine, the service was nice and on time. Playing for the occasion good 80s disco music, we went with some friends and we enjoyed our dinner. We didn't book a table, and we were surprised by the warm atmosphere.

We went to Mama Mia's on Saturday, January 25, 2020 for dinner after attending a showing of the Phantom of The Opera at the Majestic Theatre down the street. We were so impressed with the quality of the food as well as the size of the portions. The staff was so accommodating and very friendly. We live in Canada and this trip was a last minute road trip so we picked this restaurant based on other reviews and we were not disappointed. We ordered the Lasagne and the Chicken Marsala and both came with more than enough food for dinner and then some. The lasagne tasted homemade, the sauce was fantastic! If you are in the neighbourhood and want a really good Italian meal, you have to try this place out. The owner even came over and spoke with us at the end of our meal and gave us the history of when her parents first opened the restaurant and how she now runs it and her daughter is currently a waitress there. A real Family restaraunt. There is no doubt why this place has been around for over 40 years!

The food was okay. Whilst the service was good they took the butter away, did not offer to get another drink, and added a automatic gratuity to the bill.

Pleasant atmosphere, ordinary Italian pasta menu with few surprises or innovations. Food was nevertheless decent. But service was attentive and superlative. My companion dropped a tiny bit of tomato sauce on her blouse and as she dabbed at it with a napkin she wet in her water glass, our waiter miraculously appeared with a glass of club soda. I was amazed, having NEVER had that experience in ANY restaurant of any level or quality. Kudos to the wait staff all around. Would definitely consider returning.

Thanks to the concierge at our hotel for recommending this restaurant and making our reservation. She lives in the neighborhood, knows the owners and eats there herself so she could honestly recommend it. I wish we had solicited her input on other restaurants we ate at before we talked with her. We had the best meal we had the entire time we were in NY. We had eaten at other Italian restaurants during our stay that got excellent reviews on various websites but they were below par compared to Mama Mia. What a great place to celebrate a birthday with tasty tiramisu prior to seeing a musical. This place was in walking distance of the theater which also made it convenient. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. A family owned restaurant is always the best place and so worth returning to eat again!

We visited Mama Mia the day after Christmas for a family dinner prior to going to the theater. We were met at the front door by the very sweet hostess Deborah. She directed us to the bar and we had an opportunity to meet Mama herself. Mama was watching the door and all of the tables and making sure that things ran smoothly. Tables are close together as they are everywhere in NYC. Our waiter (did not get his name) was extremely professional and prompt. We enjoyed the house wine - we did carafes of both the white and red. The pasta was delicious - my husband had the seafood special pasta and the red sauce and seafood were cooked perfectly. The meatballs were very good - not dry at all, sauce was lovely. The only thing I could possibly change is for olive oil and herbs to go with the bread instead of just butter on the table. This is a small restaurant that really seems to pride itself on serving food that is local comfort food. It is not pretentious, it is good food and solid service. We will happily return.

We were walking around NYC looking for a dinner spot. We came upon this restaurant and what a great surprise. The staff is lovely and are very willing to make recommendations. Some of these recipes are generations old and delicious! This will be a place to revisit when we are in NYC

I have eaten at Mama Mia multiple times during my visits to NYC. Great food, excellent service and generous portions. Staff is always friendly and helpful -- even when the restaurant is extremely busy. Great choice.

After a first flawless visit, with our companions vacation coming to and end we decided to revisit this restaurant as we had had an enjoyable experience. 4 nights later we went back with expectations of a similar experience. That did not happen. The young water came out and poured tepid tap water into our glasses, no ice so it was undrinkable. We placed our orders explaining although we were two couples dining together to have separate checks, this wasn’t a problem the first night. Orders taken we sat back and waited. Our friends appetisers arrived first minutes passed no sign of ours. When chased up with the waitress out came our appetiser, the other couple already having finished theirs. We were still missing one of the first courses and when speaking to staff, phrases like”it’s on its way” and some time later again “ It will be along shortly”. Finally the missing entré arrived and we could eat it. No apologies for the delay. The main course arrived no issues there. The check was asked for and an automatic 20% gratuity was added. When questioned about this the staff including the manager couldn’t or wouldn’t see the point we were making. We told them to reduce the gratuity to 10% a new bill arrived amended so we paid the bill in cash. Upon leaving the premises we were accosted by the manager, clearly shaking with rage and thrust the remaining gratuity back in our hands and waived us away. We won’t be back.

This family restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen delivers! Ohhhh Mama Mia, great Italian dishes and wonderful service. You might even catch “Mama” singing in the back of the restaurant. Our go to dish is eggplant Parmesan with ziti pasta and pesto sauce. What a treat.

We got a reservation for 8pm online through through yelp it was fast and we received a verification/ reminder text it was seamless. When we arrived the place it was packed. Typical New York restaurant small space trying to put as many tables and chairs in there as possible. It was difficult for the people working there and the patrons to navigate the tight confined area. We both ordered the spaghetti with meatballs the meal was good and the service was great. The only thing I did not like about the experience was the small cramped table setups. I get it they were busy and business is about making money, but the experience is what brings people back. We were seated so close to someone that we heard there entire conversation. The noise level from all around was very high at times.

6 of us looking forward to eating outside before theater. Excellent location. We seated at outside canopy on 44th Street. Noticed a pee like smell. At first we thought it was an odor from humans. We told our host that we wanted to be reseated. She replied that the smell was rat piss from beneath the sidewalk and that other patrons had also complained. She graciously tried to find an alternative place for us to sit, but nothing available on a busy Saturday night. Food quite good, service average to good, but the smell was overwhelming.

Food here is a little pricy but quite good. The arrabatta is quite spicy. Spinach and cheese ravioli are great as well. No kids menu but will do 1/2 portion on some of the pasta dishes if you ask.

We try to visit every time we are in town. Delicious food and fabulous service! Timea is awesome and makes great recommendations. Egg- plant parm, lasagna and manicotti are awesome as well as the chocolate cake and mango sorbet which is served in a frozen mango. Those dishes plus a couple of non-alcoholic drinks cost us $90 plus tip. Very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. It was Friday so we did make a reservation since we had show tix.

We absolutely loved Mama Mia! This is a great family-owned spot close to the hustle of Times Square but that makes you feel like you've stepped into a small neighborhood spot. Mama was even there to greet us! My mom and I took my nephew here on a Friday night in October and enjoyed a couple different pastas and a pizza for the kiddo. The food was excellent, service was prompt and the atmosphere was great. Quiet, but we felt like we were able to talk at a normal level, hear the music and not feel like everyone was listening to our conversations. This is just an excellent option when you're in the Times Square / Midtown area and looking for something that isn't a chain or tourist trap. We'll definitely be back!

They pretend to be an Italian restaurant but the cook learned to cook in the forest! Of Italian cuisine not even the shadow!! Forget it go to MC

We were on holiday from UK and our hotel was located a 5 min walk away so after reading the reviews we decided to give it a go and see if they could squeeze us in at short notice (5) and glad we did! A lovely friendly welcome from all of the staff together with a great feel to the place. It was half full when we arrived and by the time of us receiving our food the place was completely full. Nice, traditional well made and presented Italian food was served at a reasonable price considering the location being at the heart of NYC. We had absolutely no complaints at all re' the food, service, price etc and would 100% return again if/when we are in town, would definitely recommend.

Our party of 6 visited this fantastic restaurant for dinner. All the food was great and they catered particularly well for a vegan member of our group. The staff were friendly and kind; they explained how the restaurant had been in the family for 48 Years and the daughter of the original owners was in the restaurant to talk so us. Overall a fantastic evening.

This was our first time and we will be back. The staff was attentive and very friendly. We had the garlic bread, eggplant rollitini appetizer, chicken parm and penne vodka. The rollitini was so delicious and perfect for two people to share. Their garlic bread was outstanding and homemade. Then came the meal… when my daughter tasted the penne vodka she had literal tears in her eyes because it was so good! The chicken parm was very good but the penne vodka was the absolute winner of the day; probably the best we’ve ever had and we love vodka sauce! We will absolutely be back.

Really fancied Italian food and found this place. Reviews were mixed but I know everyone has their own opinions. We ordered 2 dishes off the specials at $38 each steak and the seafood combination, these were delicious! Another party member had pepperoni pizza and another had meatballs, all the food was hot and tasty! Service was great! Recommend!!

We visited Mama Mia 44 on a Saturday night. We were a large group and had a show to go to afterwards. We were smart enough to leave plenty of time because they seated us well over 30 minutes late. Well, they made up for it by clearing the appetizer plates before everyone was done eating them! The bus boy actually took a plate of food away without asking! Then we actually waited a good while for our entrees. We looked at each other like, huh?? The entrees were so below NYC italian food standards. The chicken parm was flat and tasteless. The chicken tasted old. The chicken marsala was awful. The Gnocchi was awful. People who tasted it said "how can you mess up gnocchi?" People sort of like the veal parm special. Perhaps that was made fresh. The prices are more than fair for nyc, but over priced for the meal we had. I guess tourists who go here for a show like it because they are not from nyc.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here. The cocktails, food and service were excellent. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and answered all of our questions. We would definitely recommend and would return if we have the opportunity.

We stopped in here for some authentic Italian and we were not disappointed. The menu was loaded with options and a great cocktail and wine list. We enjoyed two great meals and several beverages. We recommend this spot while in NYC.

Absolutely the WORST meal one can have in NYC. First red flag is that both bathroom doors open right into the small back dining room with no barrier curtain. Disgusting. 2 out of 3 cocktails were brought together. We had to wait while bar tender prepared another table’s cocktails before the 3rd drink arrived about 10 minutes later with no apology. Waiter then accidentally partially spilled my martini and I had to ask the brusque, inattentive hostess for another after waiting to see if would happen automatically. My fish was overcooked at $39. Second red flag: no prices listed for specials. With so many excellent restaurants in the neighborhood this one was a total disappointment. Don’t waste your time.

Back in the 70's I used to go to this restaurant for a homemade Italian meal. Back then it was a hole in the wall place actors on a tight budget would visit. We would ask Mamma what she recommended and, without fail, I'd be transported back to my own Nona's Italian kitchen. I've been living on the other coast but had the opportunity to revisit the restaurant over the past few years when in NYC. Now it's a lovely whtie tablecloth place (very reasonably priced). Sadly, Mamma has recently passed but the food is still as good as remembered. And the service is the kind you expect from a fine family run restaurant. It's still in the family. Condolences for the loss of Mamma but thank you for carrying on her legacy. Perfect location if you're going to the theatre and not a tourist trap.

Had dinner here on a Friday night with a friend and would definitely recommend. Our server was friendly and attentive and the food was great.

Starter was absolutely beautiful however the waiter took our starters away before we even had time to finish them. The mains were inedible, no flavour and no thickness or consistency to the sauces; just watery tinned tomatoes. When the bill came it was very expensive at $85 considering we didnt even have any alcohol and the food was so bad. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip. All other italian restaurants in the area were fully booked; it's not surprising this was the only place available. This is not an authentic italian restaurant, I came away very disappointed.

So So. The food was ok, but the service was terrible. This place is tying to be fine dining with a quick service feel. The waiter obviously forgot about us and came to present the check when our food hadn't arrived yet. He was like, "so sorry, let me check on your food" Food was ok, but definitely an NYC need you in and out kind of vibe!

Our reservation (6 of us) was ready when we arrived. There was an issue with a drink that remedied promptly and professionally. Everyone’s dinner was excellent. Appetizers were very good and nice portions for sharing. A busy place but not frenetic. An extremely pleasant experience. We’d go back on a future visit to the city. It was my birthday so I didn’t take pictures of plates but nade certain there smiles all around - even a 7 & 4 year old!! A great evening. Staff could not have been nicer. Attenntive but not intrusive.

Just because they are asking for vaccination status at the door DOES NOT make them COVID-19-safe dining place. While we were greated by the hostess who wore a mask, once we were seated we realized almost none of the staff was wearing masks or doing so appropriately. Since we had an unvaccinated child with us, we got uncomfortable and asked if we can get a server who wears a mask while at our table. (Hindsight, I wish I just walked out instead.) The initial server (an older lady, don't know her name) kept going to the hostess making comments and throwing looks at our table for the whole time we were there. As if on purpose, then both the busser (with mask under his beard) and another server (without a mask) came to our table as well, just to prove whatever point they were trying to make. Just to make it clear, our new server DID wear a mask and he was considerate enough to save his comments about our choice to ask for our server to wear a mask or at least not announce them publicly, knowing we can hear them, like everyone else did. The food was okay (not really outstanding or anything), but not closely enough to balance for our horrible experience with the rudeness of everyone except our server. PS: It appeared that people have forgotten COVID spreads among vaccinated individuals too, and many people have chosen to try going out based on the belief our food will be handled safely. Not wearing a mask during a pandemic is not handling anything safely.... If we don't want to be closing everything again, we have to continue being responsible until safe otherwise. Being rude to customers who are asking for 1h of your time to finally enjoy a dinner out ,when they have taken every single precaution to be careful otherwise , isTERRIBLE customer service, coming from someone with a hospitality management degree and experience supervising. Humanity has failed for over a year to show kindness to those who have been struggling the most with the pandemic and today was just the icing of the cake.

Food was good, service was pretty good. The only thing that pissed me off was a unannounced mandatory 20% gratuity on a 2 person party. That was out of line

This is by far the worst restaurant experience we have ever had. We had a reservation but had to wait. Then they acted annoyed that we were standing inside waiting and asked us to stand outside in the cold. No! It took 40 minutes to get a cheese pizza for my child and the rest of us all had our food. The food was awful (we even saw a cook come in with a box of noodles and a jar of sauce!). The owner is the rudest person I have a come across in a long time. This place must only make it because of tourists. Locals wouldn’t return to such a horrible experience. Don’t waste your time or money. The original owners would be disgusted to see how this place is now being run.

Loved this Italian restaurant. Food was amazing. Well worth a visit if you are in New York. You will not be disappointed. 🇺🇸🗽❤️

It was around 6p on a Sunday evening and I figured wrongly that most of the restaurants would be empty and theater patrons would be making their way home. I decided to stop in at Mama Mia 44 SW for a bite to eat. The place was packed and I waited for about 15 minutes for a table only to be seated at a round table for 3 as you walk in. It was extremely busy and it took a while for my order to be taken and for my food to arrive. I had already looked over the menu outside the restaurant and decided to order the chicken marsala and a glass of the house red. It is a large space with ample tables in front, a corridor lined with tables on one side and more seating in the back. My food arrived and it was very good. Service was not as efficient as it had been in the past but this could be attributed to the fact that they were so busy. I have been here at other times and the service was excellent. I opted out of dessert but did get a double espresso. I would recommend and return but either with a reservation or on a Monday-a non theater day,

My partner and I went in for dinner one night of our holiday. Food was cold and the service was atrocious. The man in the restaurant, guessing the manager/owner is the rudest person we have ever came across. I’d recommend anybody to avoid this place like the plague.

If i could give this place 0 i would. After an hour of being there without being waited on I decided to leave. It was my birthday and my friend wanted to share with the manager our experience and he was so dismissive and rude. He offered to comp a bottle of champagne which we denied because he didn’t even seem truly apologetic, just like he wanted to shut us up. After we denied he basically said oh well so sorry and walked away. They prioritize a specific demographic of client and it’s clear.
Good food, but poor service
We went for dinner last week. We didn't have a reservation, but it wasn't full so we got a table. Very friendly lady showed us our table and gave us menus, but that's where the good service stopped. We were in the corridor part of the restaurant. Lots of staff passed us, but we had to ask for drinks. Then they got one of our drinks wrong (out of 2!). It was another 15 min and we had to ask for our food order to be taken. We had the courgette starter to share. While the courgettes were a bit bland, the sauce was very tasty. I had the mushroom & chicken pasta, which was delicious! My husband's pasta was delicious too. Desserts were also lovely, but again we had to ask for the dessert menu. And we weren't in a rush, but were left quite a while. The owner kept passing by our table and didn't even acknowledge us even with just a smile. Also, be aware that they automatically add the gratuity on to the bill at 18%. I disagree with this as good service should be rewarded, not poor service. Luckily the food made up for the service, which is why I gave it a Very Good rating overall.
