Incredible Cuban restaurant!

By asd24 |

An incredible Cuban restaurant right next to Rockefeller Center. Fast service and incredible food at a reasonable price.

Great lil Cuban shop - amazing coffee!!!!!!

A place for locals that welcomes polite tourists. Stayed at muse hotel next door and had very strong cafe con leche here every morning. So so hood!!!! Tried Cuban sandwich... Good too.

Authentic, local gem of a place

By DEREK D |

Wow! Everything about this place was incredible. It's a dive...let's get that out of the way. But in the best possible way...no tourist trap here. It is full-on authentic Cuban food, which my wife and I love, served with love. The staff is great! We had the Cuban sandwich and the pepper steak along with the rice and beans side and some fried plaintains. It was under $25 for all of that and one of the best meals we had during our 4 day stay. Go here!

Cuba in the heart and in the mouth

By Arrozglutinoso |

Cuba in the heart and in the mouth Small restaurant a little overwhelming, with a super friendly staff and a delicious meal. The food is already prepared and is simply served to take away or to eat there. Delicious tostones, white and yellow rice, pork roast, chicken, hot sauce. And all at low prices. Enjoy Caribbean food!

Delicious

Have seen this place and want to try a real cuban meal. You won't be disappointed. Very friendly staff, the food very delicious. Steak sanwich is a must....omg juicy fresh.

Friendly restaurant with good Cuban food.

By James M |

We ate there for breakfast and took out two lunches (even though there was sufficient seats). All were reasonably priced and delicious. The food seems authentic and delicious. The cooks and servers were helpful and friendly. It is well located near Times Square.

This food!

By ynka88 |

The food here has made me so so so happy! The Cuban Sandwich comes from heaven - WOW, THIS is the definition of soulfood! I ate here for breakfast with my son and actually wanted to come back the next day for more, this time for lunch, just before going to the airport - I wad so sad that we couldn't make it, but we will definitely remember this place and come back when we visit NYC again. Go eat here, please! The food is awesome, service amazing, extremely fair prices. Thank you!

Good and Inexpensive breakfast

We grabbed breakfast here based on a tip by a NYC tour hawker. He was right. It was good food and at a VERY reasonable price!!

The definition of the word “tasty”

By Rob |

Chosen from a guide book, the decision to go to Margon was one of the best we made during our 5 day city break from the UK. Being honest, having sat down at a table it wasn’t obvious how we should order and if we were typical UK nervous ninnies and not fairly seasoned travelers we might have sat there for a while in this bustling “local” eatery (if just off Times Square can be called local). However, stepping up to the counter and asking for guidance paid dividends and the lady serving could not have been more helpful. Between us we had rice, beans, baked chicken and plantains and a Cuban sandwich the guidebook had justly recommended. We ate at various other good but far more costly establishments during our visit but Margon hit the spot. Thank you

Good Wholesome Cuban Food

By Stuie72 |

We read a good review of this restaurant in Lonely Planet as "Obscenely Good". This is very accurate. The food is tasty yet simple. I have Prawn Cerviche in Margon sauce. Excellent. Steak and onions, were melt in the mouth perfect and the fish fell off the bone. The side of rice, black beans and plantain was amazing. All very reasonably priced.

Delicious Cuban sandwich.

By colin d |

Stopped for lunch at this really friendly Cuban cafe. We ordered two Cuban sandwiches with a couple of beers, absolutely brilliant. The lady owner was so friendly, took our order, brought the food over to our table with two pieces of their special chicken to try!! Thoroughly recommended.

Lunch

By Gretsch612 |

As nervous first time visitors in New York with three hours to wait until we could check in, we were finding ourselves a bit overwhelmed. This was a great choice for lunch. 1: we didn't get the subtle ways ordering worked in the US but the woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful despite being busy. 2: the food was extraordinary. Tender oxtail, savoury rice and beans balanced by sweet fried bananas. It was superb. A warm and tasty welcome to New York after the trials of JFK.

Great Little Cuban Place

By soapbxr |

My mom and I ventured into Margon because we were staying at the Super 8 at Time Square and it was close by. The casual diner-style atmosphere, hot, inexpensive food, great Cuban music over the radio, was all terrific, and the folks that worked there (and the folks who ventured in) were very friendly and kind to two Southerners looking to rest their feet and find a good, hot meal. My mom is experienced with Cuban food from her time living in Tampa, and she loved her Spanish coffee and cuban bread with cheese. I had a steak sandwhich and a Snapple tea. Our cook even gave us a free sample of some other Cuban specialty he recommended. The people here were so genuine and fun and the place is so coveniently located at 46th street right off Time Square. The price range on this little place is wrong on the summary....you can get a great breakfast for under $5 and a hot lunch for under $10. Go. You'll love it. A lot of fun.

Yum! Perfect lunch near Times Square

By Morevacationplease1 |

I was in town for a conference at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. I skipped the networking lunch and popped down 46th street for some Cuban Food. Fast, delicious, and really friendly service. Big portions of deliciousness. Thumbs up Margon!

Tremendo almuerzo en NYC

By Paolo Rimini |

In"El Margon" we found high quality delicious food and friendly people that makes this place special, real genuine domenican-cuban flavors in everything we tried, will stop there every time we will be in NYC.

OK food but wonder about cleanliness

By robcurtross |

Service here is only along a hot table -- the room is too narrow for many tables and the place does a large take out and delivery business. The few tables are mainly in the back, crowded close together, and generally pretty messy by 1:00 in the afternoon -- cleaning up would be almost impossible in such a small space. The servers are all very helpful -- crankiness comes from the regulars -- and they work hard to be sure you know what is on special each day. Servings are pretty large, but I found the food to be pretty bland and not of the high quality of other Cuban restaurants in the City. However, if you are in the Times Square area -- only a block to the west -- and in the need of some Cuban chow, this one will do fairly well. As "New York" pointed out, you can get a good slice of Manhattan life, with publicists, well-gelled bankers, and other office types wait in line with bike messengers, construction workers, and the odd intrepid tourist making their choices of cafeteria-style Latin American fare.

Masters of the Cuban sarnie

By Simon D |

Having recently watched the film Chef it is fair to say I have been rather obsessed with Cuban sandwiches over the past few weeks. Coming from the UK meant I had to satisfy this craving with home made riffs on the theme. Once in NYC I hunted down what I gathered to be he best sandwich in the city and was not disappointed. Superb bread, oozing cheese and lots of meaty meat. Just go there. Do it

Nom nom good

By travelviapurple |

This is a hole-in-the wall Cuban place in the Times Square area. I rarely give 5 stars but this place rates it. Decor is nearly nonexistent but you don’t come here for the decor you come for the amazing food. Try the Cubano sandwich. Or perhaps the Yucca with the onions. Or the pork. Or the chiccaron or the beans and rice. You just can’t go wrong. Plus, the staff are really nice. You just get a good feel from this place.

Excellent for what it is...try it you will like it.

By Chas2U |

By this I mean it is not fine dining. But the food and people are genuine! Cuban sandwiches, Cuban coffee were great to my taste! Try the black beans and rice also!

Amazing!

By abeason1 |

My mom took me here last January and then recently took my dad this year. Having grown up around Puerto rican food, this is just as good. I can't wait to take my husband next week for our anniversary trip to NYC!! Their beans and rice are to die for!

Hidden gem

By Mark K |

My wife and I tried the Cubano combo plates at the recommendation of the girl at the counter and they were excellent! The rice and beans were as tasty as can be, and the Cubans were wonderful. The girl at the counter was friendly, welcoming, helpful, and playful—and absolutely delightful. The restaurant is a little hole in the wall, and it had a small but wonderfully diverse crowd. We loved the food and our experience there.

Margon

By GoVols79 |

After visiting Rockefeller Center we were looking for a quick and unique lunch spot and Margon was a great option. The service was very friendly and our Cubano sandwiches came out quickly. The food tasted great and it was very reasonably priced. It felt like an authentic neighborhood restaurant and not a tourist trap. It was a great meal and certainly somewhere I would recommend.

Great little Cuban resto near Times Square

By Jarred A |

My wife and I stopped in on a long walk to the Empire State Building after a recommendation from Yelp. The staff here is amazing and super friendly, and the food is outstanding and truly authentic. If you're ever over on W 46th and are interested in a true taste of Cuban cuisine then you can't miss out on Margon. I highly recommend the peppered beef!

Good Authentic Cuban Food

By NJ_Visitor |

I have been here several times for lunch. It's a small place with limited seating. Usually crowded with a good menu. More authentic food than a local competitor, Sophie's Kitchen (although Sophie's has good food too).

Great place for quick inexpensive food

By 3me2 |

Great food, large quantity. Two of the people in the family had the naked chicken. It was falling off the bone tender. The fried chicken was a bit overcooked but still very good. Rice and beans very flavorful. My daughter had the steak sandwich and said it was good also.

I'm glad I found it

By Jljigi |

I was looking for authentic Cuban food near the hotel I was staying and found this one. I'm very happy I found it. Food is great (spoiler alert: servings are huge!). Loved the atmosphere. You'll find great variety of food. Coffee is great. Will definitely come back.

Fabulous little hole in...

By axterix7 |

Fabulous little hole in the wall take out spot in times square close to work. The Cuban sandwiches are yummy, fast, and easy. The buffet has a plethora to choose from and you get a lot of bang for your buck!. Lines can be long during lunch hours and not a whole lot of seating.

Fantastic food

By Matty M |

Ten out of ten, chicken cooked to perfection, friendly staff, great atmosphere & price. This was the best recommendation from travel blogger Jon Barr, thanks Margon restaurant and Jon.

Delicious

By merlav001 |

The ox stew was great, the breakfast really good. Great coffee, good prices. Friendly staff that make you feel like family.

Delicious authentic Cuban

By jrpard0 |

I love this place. Great for lunch. Red beans are excellent. All the entrees are terrific. Make me hungry just writing this review.

Like Cuban food?

By JohnDNorth |

Check out this cafeteria style hole in the wall for great beef and chicken dishes and fantastic black beans. Very much a local place in Midtown. Might be your best meal in the city.

Cubano

I took the sandwich Togo and was eating it in Times Square and people were ooing and aweing how good the sandwich looked. It was good!

Cuban sandwiches are OK...

By Adventurer59632 |

Cuban sandwiches are OK, but the best thing to get are the Wednesday special roast pork or the octopus salad.

Great Cuban Food

By jer b |

Great spot for a quick lunch, before shows, etc. The menu is very interesting in diversity. Small place with limited seating, but the food is preprepared (except for the sandwiches) and even if it is crowded, it moves along. The octopus salad contained tender bits of octopus - a generous portion and was fresh from the ocean fresh. Better than some found in higher priced restaurants. The rice and beans, combined with red or black beans was enough for two people and just like your grandmother made (if you were Cuban). Our friend chose the steak sandwich and raved about it. The king fish was fresh and delicious, but as kingfish goes, a little oily. The restaurants has daily specials which accounts for the freshness of the entrees and there is always a good selection of meat and fish. The oxtail was amazing. Clean, inexpensive for NYC and fresh. The waitstaff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Located on west 46 - steps away from the theaters and attractions of Times Square.

Great spot for quick and easy authentic Cuban

By NYNY10065 |

A hole in the wall lunch counter with an excellent Cubano sandwich, a great cafe con leche and a pretty good flan. The service was exceedingly friendly for a busy lunch counter. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. The Cubano sandwich, while a little heavy on the yellow mustard, was as close to a Miami Cubano as you'll find in New York. This place has daily specials in addition to regular items like roast chicken and rice and beans. All in all, a place worth dropping in on for your Cuban fix in NYC.

Cuban Sandwich

By Autumn M |

This is one of the better places I have found in the city for a cuban sandwich. Get there early during the week as the lunch crowd can get crazy. This place takes cash only unless you spent $20.

Good cuban food and nice atmosphere

By Ellehoj |

Food was great (cuban sandwich) and their cuban coffee is excellent. Staff very friendly and forthcoming. It has an unpretentious feel and it seemed many were returning customors. I will be next time I am in the area.

Hidden Gem

By Craig D |

While visiting NYC the Doorman at our hotel suggest this restaurant as we were looking for an off the path great eats diner. This is truly a hidden gem of a restaurant that should be on your to do list. The food is served lunchroom style but the taste is far from lunchroom fare. If Caribbean food is what you desire then Margon will satisfy your taste buds.

Great Cuban coffee

By JackieR12 |

Stop in and eat like a local near Times Square. Great Cuban food and coffee. Try the Cuban oatmeal for a breakfast treat.

Cuban dive a hidden gem!

By Francia S |

This midtown Cuban dive spot is the place to get Big Bang for your buck! Daily specials with meat of the day, rice, beans from $7-$10. Lunch line is long so get there early. Oxtail is very good, chicken was yummy. Ask for the yellow rice and get plantains with your plate. Get your food to stay or go. Say hello to Edgar and get a big smile back!

Good stuff

By touron4 |

This was great stuff. It was described to me as a "hole in the wall" and it is...but that's all part of the experience. You can go to Applebee's or McDonalds or drop $400 at some "wine bar and cafe"... But you aren't going to get a better meal then here and at a fraction of the price.

Good Cuban, great value for the City

By Donkey K |

NYC ain't cheap. It's never gonna be cheap. So, when you stumble across a place like Margon's... it's pretty easy to be excited. This little "hole-in-the-wall" has a nice little business with tasty and inexpensive Cuban food. We all ate their Cuban with a big side of beans, rice, and plantains... it was all dang good. Not too much more to say... good quality, good value... nothing mind blowing. But as far as Cuban food & NYC go... this is a very good spot. Check it out!

Looks like it’s getting some much needed refurbishment, but it tastes nice!

By David S |

We stopped in for sandwiches before seeing a Broadway show. Service was friendly though one sandwich was relatively slow to arrive. Food tasted good though the place is a bit of a mess at the moment with various bits of work ongoing and paint splashes on the tables.

Loved the Cuban!

By Kev McC. |

Visited a few weeks ago based on a Roadfood recommendation. Super-friendly staff, and the food was very generously portioned and reasonably priced. I had a Cuban, per the Stern's review, and was not disappointed. My wife had something off the buffet and said it was good. I don't recall exactly when we got there, but it wasn't that late and they were getting ready to close up. So it's probably more a lunch (or very early dinner) option. Unfortunately, I forgot to try the mango milkshake, which the Sterns also recommended - maybe next time!

Not to good.

By Toni S |

I just don't understand all of the good reviews for this place. This is the second time I have tried it. We got there at 12:00 on a Sat. I had the pork chop, rice and black beans together and pink beans. They also gave us 2 pieces of chicken. All of the meat was so dried out it stuck in our throats. The rice and beans did not have good flavor at all. This is not an isolated incident as it was the same problem the last time I came. The only thing good about this place are the prices are fantastic and you get nice portions.

One of my go-to places for lunch in the area, mainly for takeout

By hopfrog |

I work a block away and often come for lunch. People rave about the Cuban sandwiches, but oddly, I've not tried them here. Some of my favorite dishes. 1. Oxtails -- I like oxtails, and I don't think I've had better than theirs. 2. Palomilla steak -- this is made when you order; it's a thin steak fried up with onions. You order on the main chow line, then pick it up at the back window. 3. If you're in the mood for something lighter, their octopus salad is great. 4. Their shrimp salad is nearly as good. Pro Tip: I have to say it's not too pleasant to eat there, and I've always thought of it as an excellent take-out place. Service is cafeteria style. There are a number of small "pocket parks" within a block or two where you can take your dish to eat it in warm weather, and Bryant park (42nd & 6th) is walking distance as well.

Great lunch!

By James S |

I met a friend there for a quick bit to eat! I got the salmon with rice and beans, and it was SO delicious! It was fresh and the sauce was amazing. My friend got the oxtail and she really enjoyed it.

Awesome Cuban Sandwiches

By TonyGal3s |

That was the best Cuban cuisine that I've had in a while. If it wasn't for the fact that it was hotter inside the restaurant than the 90 degree outside temperature, I would have given 5 stars.

Great Place with Fair Prices!

By MisterTravel1000 |

The atmosphere is far from slick but don’t let that fool you. The staff is friendly, the food delicious, and prices are great. They’ve been around for a long time and there’s a good reason for that. So, wander in, order at the counter and take a seat. If you like Cuban food, you’ll be glad you did! And don’t forget the flan…,.

Hidden gem

By PekkR |

As a tourist you don´t notice it, if you don´t know to look for. We knew to look for it, thanks to Tripadviser reviews! Very very good coffee, the best cafe con leche we tasted during our 9 day visit to NY and Cuban sandwiches delicious, as noted here before. I agree with previous reviews and warmly recommend. As in my native language we say: Suosittelen lämpimästi!

Amazing Food & Prices

By Suzannekz |

Stopped here with my family before a show. The food was amazing...we had the roast chicken, cubano sandwich, chicken sandwich, plantains, rice & beans. The beans were the best beans I ever had. Dinner for 3 of us was $40 and we could not even finish our plates. Local, comfortable, clean, hole in the wall. Highly recommend.

Our favorite little breakfast place in NYC

By Richard G |

We love this little place which is next door to the hotel we usually use in New York, The Muse. We'll have breakfast there most mornings since you can get two eggs, potatoes and Cuban toast along with cafe con leche for maybe 5 bucks a person. The Cuban toast is Cuban bread, kind of like a sweeter version of baguette with the texture of Italian bread. They slice this crosswise, butter it and then put in in the sandwich press. Ask for it well done and its even better. Staff is super friendly, atmosphere is basic but we do love it. On our way out of town we ordered up two media noches, a Cuban specialty that means "middle of the night" as in snack. Ham, pork, swiss, pickles and mustard on Cuban bread in the sandwich press. Took it on the train going home and enjoyed a delicious lunch on the go.

Great Fast Food Cuban

By shakespeare4me |

I had the chicken which was very good. It was fall off the bone tender. Very flavorful. It's a busy place a lunch and seating is quite limited. Rice and beans were awesome!

Very tasty meals, great service

By Eva T |

We found this small like family run restaurant opposite Church of St. Mary the Virgin. When we stepped in there was very friendly feeling, people behind counter did chat with customers, laugh and had together good time. We both ordered the same - rice with black beans and fried chicken chunks (USD 16). The taste was amazing and the portions were big. To drink we had tin of soft drink and for everything we paid only USD 37 - incredible! The only disadvantage is the space as the tables with chairs are squeezed together. But I would not hesitate to have a meal or two there again when in the city.

Cheap breakfast, a few issues

By EJLH |

We were very much looking forward to trying a Cubano sandwich, alas we had arrived too early as they were not yet being served. We had one of the breakfast dishes which were good for the price although we were there during the pre work rush and those orders kept getting fulfilled first while ours got forgotten. In fairness, the lovely cook (who works sooooo hard) apologised on more than one occasion. The biggest issue for me was that when we came out of the restaurant, our clothes had taken on the most horrendous cooking smells, so much so that after an hour we decided to go back to the hotel and change.

Non existent service, greasy good

By newyorkukulele |

Went for the "best Cubano in NYC." I often eat at restaurants like this, like Tina's Cuban on W 55th. Went in for lunch at 3 pm, no greeting, no nothing, so I took a table at the rear. NO service, no nothing. I tried to flag a waiter but to no avail, then one of the guys at an adjoining table said you have to order at the counter (steam table). OK, some waiter guy said pay up front (sign said PAY HERE, NOT ORDER HERE!!!) and he 'll get me. I paid and ordered Cubano plus American coffee. He never got me. 15 min later I asked him where my lunch was and he apologized as he never put the order in. Gave me 3 pcs of cold fried chicken "on the house." Soon after my Cubano came with a CAFFE CON LECHE which this bellend said was American coffee. If this is NYC's best Cubano, I'm Superman. Greasy at best, Never goin back. They could learn from Tina's cuban or Sophie's cuban on 8th ave. Bye now

This place is good

By Gilbert Jose M |

This place is good I got rice and black beans and this chicken this bone came out easily and you know that’s good so yeah Bye👍

OMG Just eat it!!!

By Jsison84 |

This place is small but great Cuban food good people. Baked chicken, Beef Stew, Yuca and the sweet plantains are all excellent. If your in the city you gotta stop in and eat here you will not regret it.

Tastes homemade

By Cutiecheeks11 |

This place was a excellent find. Inexpensive, great portions, and great flavor. The staff was very friendly. It's small so it may be too crowded during the lunch crowd. Don't be fooled by its appearance....it's delicious!

Fast, friendly service and great food at this NYC treasure

By nip255 |

This place was both highly reviewed on TA and recommended by the staff of the hotel I was staying in, so I decided to give it a try. I walked past the tiny hole-in-the-wall twice trying to find it, and it was crowded and very warm inside. Still, the staff were smiling and cracking jokes and the service was very fast and friendly, even in the middle of the lunch rush. Took me less than 5 minutes to walk out with fresh, hot food. I had the fried chicken chunks. They are chopped up, bone-in chicken pieces fried to perfection. I have never had them this way, but I am going back for more soon. Super good! The mixed rice was above average and I don't care for plantains, so I will be ordering different sides next time. The chicken was more than worth the $10 price, which is a bargain for Times Square. Looking forward to taking my girl there when she gets into town later this week.

Margon Cuban-Latin

By ExecutiveVIP |

This is not an elegant place, however people here are very nice and their Cuban sandwich is one of the best even coming from south Florida this sandwich and their hot food it’s got all the Latin flavor you want. Excellent food and Service.

Don't miss it

By Wortho23 |

I had a very limited amount of time, so asked a foody colleague to give me a few restaurants not to miss. He mentioned Margon, and it was great. Quick, friendly and cheap. There are daily specials - don't miss the Roast Pork on Wednesdays.

Great cheap breakfast

By cruisermeg |

It doesn't look like much but my $7.00 breakfast with bacon, eggs, potatoes and Cuban coffee was fantastic! Glad I stopped in!

Great cuban sandwitch

By Vered G |

My husband loved it! Really tiny space Mamy oeople eat here Great street food Fresh and tasty. I will come here again

A Gem in Midtown

By angkor123 |

If you like Cuban food, you must eat here. Home cooked Caribbean food at a budget price served in large portions by a smiling, friendly staff. The oxtail stew is to die for as are the chicken dishes. If you're into seafood, try their scrumptious fried king fish or salmon or shrimp ceviche. Frijoles negros, platanos and yellow rice round out their main courses. They also have a large selection of tropical drinks and regional beers. Margon is consistently described as a "hole in the wall," and it is. But it's very welcoming. The food is simply unforgettable. Give it a try and find out for yourself.

Great Food at Great Prices

By Als M |

We had lunch here - managed to get a table to eat our delicious cuban sandwiches with sides of rice and beans (with an added piece of fried plantain - yummy!). What a fabulous atmosphere - watching people come and go, shouting their orders, laughing, and enjoying this great little find.

Great sandwiches, met high expectations

By Food_Snob_PA |

Solid reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp led us to Margon's, right off Times Square. A dive tucked away between a block of touristy places. Sure enough, we enjoyed perfectly prepared Cubanos and a chicken sandwich. $10 for a nice meal in nyc, I will take it.

Tasty food at an affordable price

By LeeWA |

If you like comfort, tasty home cooking then visit Margon for a mouth watering Cuban experience. The staff are lovely and the food just makes you feel good. There is a variety on offer and it's just simply irresistible You can either eat in our order a take out. Worth giving it a try. I did and I got hooked.

best breakfast!

By Brent788 |

So I had to check out this place because it was $7 for breakfast(almost unheard of in the city much less in Times Square), its a little hard to find but omg so worth it. Food was so much better than the other places I ate at(and way cheaper!). My only regret is that I waited til my last day in the city to check it out... will definitely be high on my list next trip

Best Cubano sandwich

By jamargulies |

It brought tears to my eyes. Other food very good as well. Recommend going here for a filling, delicious, yet it expensive meal in the Times Square area

Quick lunch

By travelingcoinman |

Not very big and it has been very busy both times I've been ther, but the food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. Recommend for a quick bite anytime.

Loved this place, they looked after us

By neilthetourist |

We stayed two blocks down on 44th and found this place on Youtube (Here Be Barr's guide to NY). So friendly every morning, and it was our starting point for the day. The Coffee is just what you need to get started, and better than anything in the main chain outlets in Times Square. Centrally placed, and really popular. lucky to find this, and thanks for making us feel so welcome every day!

Best Cuban Sandwich in NYC

By MMagdalena |

I have been to Margon more times then I can count and I can say hands down, they have the best cuban sandwich in NYC. The restaurant itself is small, easy to miss since it has a small storefront but I would highly suggest trying it since you wont be disappointed. The portions are large and the food savory.

could be better

By belen V |

1) Don't order thru their webpage...it goes to a third party who then calls the location with your order. So there is a big delay in processing your order. 2) their webpage "online order" menubhas discrepancies compared to their physical menu. My particular order online said it came with only 1 side. But when I saw the menu in person it says my same order comes with 2 sides. (Did not realize this until i got home) 3) the portions in my order "to-go" seemed they were packed in reverse. I ordered a main entre (roast pork) with a side a casava, and the packed my roast pork in a tiny plastic container probably used for "sides" and my cassava (which was my "side" order) in a bigger round aluminum container usually used to pack the entres! (Again did not realize until i was home) Although everyone was friendly was disappointed with the portions & that they didn't tell me i was entitled to a second "side". Was surprised that their restaurant rating was only a "B". If you are planning to order "to go"/ "pick-up" just call them directly. Also did not like that the employees were joking around with each other in Spanish about over charging a high price for a cup of ice to the customer who didn't speak Spanish.. right in front of them.

New York's Best Kept Secret

By cma6262 |

Please go and visit this wonderful little cuban restaurant. Simple, delicious food, friendly service, homey atmosphere, reasonable prices. One of my favorite restaurants in New York City.

Best Cuban Sandwich

By Doodyjazz |

If you can find this place, hidden down 46th ave. just off of Times Square, you will be able to get some great Cuban food, at very affordable prices. Look for the big Havana Central neon sign, and Margon is across the street. The Cuban sandwich is great, as well as the roasted chicken and octopus salad. There can be lines at lunch time, and seating is limited, but you can get it to go. A nice option to all the overpriced and pretentious eateries surrounding the area.

A good Cuban

By PainterRob |

I really like Cuban sandwiches, so Margon, from other reviews, looked like the place for me, especially because it is close to the hotel where I was staying. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and it is so narrow near the entrance that one has to squeeze past people sitting at a counter to get in, but it is worth it. Loud, yes and no attention to decor, but so what? The sandwich was really good. Maybe not the best that I have ever had, and a bit small considering the price, but Margon is on my list for a return visit. Get there early to avoid long lunch lines. I am giving this 4 stars only in relation to other similar establishments. Margon is not much more than a lunchcounter, but within that category it is really good. Similarly, I am rating it as more than cheap eats because I felt that the price of the sandwich versus the size boosted it more toward mid-range for this category. It is still under $10.

Amazing

By BMANC0319 |

This place is amazing. I'm so happy to see a real NY restaurant so close to the toursit traps. We had Cuban sandwhiches with yellow rice and red red beans. The people working were dancing, having fun, all while taking the utmost attention to all customers. The food was incredibly delicious. I would 100% visit again on my next time around the block.

A nice place to grab something quick, easy, and affordable that's filling! The atmosphere is super casual, kind of like a diner and the service is friendly.

Great food. Friendly service.

Don't be fooled by the minimalist decor. This restaurant knows where to focus: food & service. Walked in for a take out breakfast. Was greeted with a friendly face to usher us into the modest looking restaurant, a nice smile by the cook behind the counter as well as the cashier at collection time. Made us want to sit and stay which we did. Service was relatively fast. While we waited we were entertained by the staff singing along to the Spanish music playing on the radio. We ate a Cubano which I strongly recommend. Large sandwich well worth the $10 i am not a fan of the deli meats, usually, but this pairing with pulled pork and sauce was excellent. I definitely recommend or would go back.

i was just a copycat and had what the guy in front of me ad.

By paauilofarmer |

the line moves pretty quickly, so i didn't really get the hang of what i was supposed to do.thankfully the man inf front of me spoke fluent spanish and knew what he was goind. so i just siad what ever he's having. they threw in some extra things for me to eat, all delicious.

Genuine cuban dishes in NYC

By Ryx44 |

This hidden Cuban cuisine eatery offers a variety of dishes. It has a bit of a diner feel. My order (Palomilla Steak with Yellow Rice and Black Beans as well as a Tropical Mango Shake) was served very quickly. The Palomilla Steak was tender as well as firm to the bite, a little too greasy. The rice and black beans were solid. The Tropical Shake was very consistent and flavorful. I was pretty full afterwards and spent just over $20. Great value for the money!

Order the Cubano

By Joan H |

Delicious Cubano sandwich. There are lots of choices and sides. I went with the Cubano which is the recomended menu item at Margon. I received a chunk of chicken with it,, not sure why, but it was mighty tasty. I like funky dining locations.

Cheap cubano-dominican in Theatre district

By parisnydude99 |

Classic cubano-dominicano food. In the Bronx or Washington Heights, this place may be prices at well under $10 per meal. I usually pay about $15 to $20 with drinks + coffee. Very crowded at lunch, but definitely worth a visit - as "affordable" lunch spots on that midtown theater district area few and far between.

Best Cafe Con Leche for $1.25

By MrsFrazior |

Friendly people, pump you up Latin music and yummy food and the best $1.25 cup of coffee I've ever tasted! Right of Broadway. Don't pay $6 for a Starbuck's, make the block and give this place a try.

Friendly staff, good food, family-cafe atmosphere

By Colin G |

We had our breakfast there. The staff were all friendly & helpful, the food well cooked & tasty. The filling American breakfast platter was just $5.50. I'd recommend the eggs over-easy rather than scrambled, but both were good - tho the over-easy were perfect. Basic, but good food & great value.

Fantastic Cubano and Red Beans and Rice. Big portions. Speedy delivery to our hotel room. Definitely on the “visit again” list.

The Cubanos are fantastic!

By SteveB15 |

Ever since I saw the movie, Chef, I've been wanting to try a Cubano. I saw a review on this restaurant on another site and decided to give it a chance. It doesn't look like much, inside or outside, but I was not disappointed. The place was packed and seating is limited. I was lucky enough to be offered a table by someone who was leaving. My Cubano was fantastic and the staff is great. Dollar for dollar, this was one of the best meal values I enjoyed during my visit to NYC

Epic home cooked authentic Cuban food

By MG3 |

This was epic home cooked Cuban food. The cassava was outstanding and the goat was to die for. I had never been there so I asked the owner what to get and he walked me through it all and took care of me from start to finish. It was also pretty cheap for what you get. The decor isn’t high end or upscale but you’re not going for that. You’re there for the food. Everyone comes during their lunch breaks so you know it’s good

Cuban and good

By Gael M |

We had a really good time there. Chicken and rice with bananas for me. Great. The prices are really correct.

Buzzing little spot

By CarrieD29 |

Busy little place but really good food. Full of locals. Had the Cubano sandwich with refried beans. Delish!

Great cuban food!

By jgibsonspencer |

A hole-in-the-wall gem! The food was amazing! We had to sit outside because the place was packed with locals- always a good sign. The friendly staff even brought us our food. An absolute must visit!

Very Much enjoyed the visit

By Paul R |

Small Hole in the wall. Went there just after opening 10:30am. By 11 very busy. Food was quite tasty and authentic. Very much enjoyed the Cuban sandwich!

You won't need to eat till the next day

By Andrew K |

no wider than an office cubicle but should not be missed. you can sit down or take out and you get tasty and filling cuban food. Cuban sandwich is best I have ever had. Good soups (chicken and seafood) they have daily specials such as oxtail, tripe, seafood etc. Counter staff is terrific as well. Wish they were open for dinner.

Great place for lunch--the Cuban sandwiches are outstanding! The staff was very nice even for being such a busy spot!

Hide gem. Cheap. Good food.

By greeneyes630 |

Cuban food. Prices are reasonable. Under $20 with beer. Beans and rice 👍 Cubano sandwich was great.

NOT for breakfast.

By JimJPC |

Advertised breakfast. Stopped serving it early all week, also did not have the items advertised. No potatoes avail given a sandwich bun for bread. Staff was friendly, and obviously they’re there for the Cubans. Never got a chance all week to try them since they only serve through late lunch.

A little gem just off of Times Sq

By Christofofofof |

Found this place only thanks to Lonely Planet, this is not standard tourist fare. Instead you'll find a narrow, functional cafe with friendliness behind the counter. The menu looks to have a few standard & a rotating daily specials board. I went for the LP recommendation, Cubano sandwich, my wife went for garlic cooked Ham. Both were exceptional & accompanied by massive sides (the plantain was superb). Think the total between us was just shy of $25. Excellent value if you are looking for an alternative to the usual suspects close to Times Sq,

NYCity visit

By lalloyd |

My husband and I visited the Margon for breakfast. It is certainly a no frills place but our breakfast was very good. We both had bacon and two eggs scrambled, home fries, and Cuban bread that was toasted on a press grill and buttered on both sides. Delicious! We wanted to go for lunch but did not have the time to get back there. The two cooks were great and very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely go back! The breakfast also included coffee which was delicious! The cost was about 6.00$ per person.

Small place, small price, great food

By looncalls |

If you're looking for breakfast or lunch and you're in the Times Square area, try Margon Restaurant on W 46th St in the first block off Times Square. It is not fine dining, but the price is amazingly low and the Cuban cuisine is amazingly good. You can pick what you want to eat because you can choose it at a long counter and there are a surprising number of choices. We split an order of Chicken Fricasee and it came with roasted potatoes, black beans and rice and plantains. You can choose your sides. Even splitting the order, there was more than we could eat. The total bill was under $15 dollars! They have daily specials and I would definitely go there again.

sandwich cubano riquíssimo

By Francisco M |

That is one delicious Cuban sandwich they serve. They add pepperoni, so it is just a bit saltier than your standard cubano. Coffee is good, too, but make sure to ask them not to steam the milk too long or you will get milk that is nearly boiling. Very inexpensive. Friendly staff.

Great Latin Food & Cafe Con Leche!

By Rachel C |

Found this place on YELP - think it's a tiny, family owned business. It's so tiny we missed it walking down the street and had to turn back around. Glad we turned around because this was exactly what we were looking for breakfast. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, tostada, cafe con leche - Yum. This place was cheap for NYC in the Theater District. We definitely paid less than $20 for breakfast including the tip. We saw them making the Cuban sandwiches before we left and ended up coming back there for lunch. We ordered the Cuban Sandwich and it was really good too. They offer a lot of traditional dishes cafeteria style like arroz con gandules and pernil. They gave us a free sample of some chicken drummette which I really enjoyed too. If we would have found it earlier in our trip, I'm sure we would have eaten there again!

Good Food Cuban Style

By Vinnie P |

We stopped at Margon's for lunch since it was just around the corner from where we stayed at the Times Square Doubletree and we had heard good things about it. The lunch selection was large and the food was delicious. The roasted chicken was tender and flavorful as was the pork chop. And of course the beans and rice was great. Recommended if you are looking for a good lunch at a moderate price.

Outstanding Service and Authentic Cuban

By Anchored |

Took the whole family here over Spring Break and had an excellent experience. We love Cuban, but that means everyone in our family of six has to carefully examine the menu, contemplate the various side options and basically gum up the works. The folks at Margon never got frustrated with our endless ordering and actually seemed to delight in the piles of food we carried off. As we were eating, an older gentleman stopped by our table to see how we liked the food. After noticing one of our sons had a pile of plantains left on his plate, the gentleman --with a sweet encouraging smile-- urged him to "try try try." It was so cute that we didn't have the heart to tell the sweet man that our son was saving the best for last! The food was amazing but what really set this place apart was the warm welcoming service. Highly recommend this gem!

Excellent Cuban food

By Pouchet |

Let me endorse several other comments - this is excellent Cuban food at very affordable prices! This is a”hole in the wall”, just off Times Square, with many flavorful Cuban standards. Their yellow rice and red beans was moist and tasty. (The other combinations white rice, black beans, gandules looked as if they would have been as good.) The Cubano was good. However, next time I will ask them to hold the mayo. (Is there anywhere on the US mainland that makes a Cubano with roasted ham?) The stewed meats all looked good - we will have to try them the next time we are in NYC. All in all a terrific experience.

Love the roast pork!!

By Brandie R |

The roast pork is SOOO tender!!! I love great restaurants tucked in a corner...this is one. I would definitely eat here again when I return to NYC.

Much better than it looks

By Mark R |

Cuban dive in midtown with the most fantastic Cuban sandwiches to eat in or take away. Very lively restaurant with the staff dancing away to the background music. The sandwich was terrific, very filling and good value for money

Great Cuban Sandwich

By Michele V |

Ate here for lunch and the Cuban sandwich was delicious! A real hidden gem definitely a must try. The sandwich is made perfectly and the pickles and mustard finish it off.

Amazing place to eat!!

Wow!!! Food is absolutely amazing!! Very authentic!! It may be hard to find, but keep looking. My favorite Cuban place to eat in the city!! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!!

Hidden gem amongst Times Sq madness!

By UtterlyDelightful |

After watching the movie Chef, I craved the taste of a truly authentic Cuban sandwich. After seeing reviews of Margon on Yelp & TA I decided to take the trip up to Times Sq, and found Margon hidden away on Little Brazil Street. The service was great, so friendly and helpful with ordering (I am a complete cuban novice). I went for the sandwich combo, which came with side of rice and beans. Delicious & such good value.

Delicious food and more

By A. Robinson |

My recommendation: Make time to go there. Ok, so if you are not looking you will miss it. Literally looks like a hole in the wall, but we all know they usually have the best food and Margon is on that list. I went look for Cafe Con Leche and found and amazing lamb special and came back for the fantastic Cubano sandwich. My next tript to NYC I will make sure to go back for the oxtail. So good!!!

Seriously Good!

By Sockster |

This little hole in the wall place has some seriously good food. Their Cuban sandwich is do die for as are the maduros. Came here recently and tried their steak sandwich and that too was amazing. This is my type of place...small, local with fantastic food!

A real surprise!!

By Pendentist |

We were out in around Midtown and ran into the crowds at Rockefeller center. Looking for a place to get away from the crowds, we decided to try Margon. It may not be fancy, but que delicioso!! The plantains were wonderful, the Cuban Sandwich was flavorful and moist. It would be a regular spot if I lived in the city

Best cuban coffee

By Kristie R |

Great little menu and excellent coffee. Go there for breakfast or lunch when you want great food at cheap prices, but remember they close at 5pm!!

Excellent Cubano

By Ed M |

My friend and I lucked out finding this "whole in the wall?" in midtown. We were looking for a place to eat lunch in the Times Square area and stumbled onto this small restaurant. We both had amazing Cuban sandwiches. Cubanos are one of my favorite things in the world so I was so relieved at how good these were. We also shared rice and beans and a plate of maduros. It is a small, narrow restaurant with limited seating but we still had no trouble finding a place to sit at a busy lunchtime. It is counter service and the people behind the counter taking orders were friendly and efficient. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!

Got here late one afternoon when they were closing up. Had a Cubano and a beer. Stayed for a few more beverages and chatted with the workers and had a great time. Classic

Warm welcome and great food

By edwardlanglo |

When visiting NYC, I enjoy finding ethnic food I can't get in VT. Margon is just the place for this experience. Small, but with a lot of heart. We came for a late lunch on a Tuesday, and they had just run out of the soup I was yearning for (tripe and trotters). Lupe, the manager, told me to call on Thursday, and she would put some aside for us. I called, and it was waiting for us. Black beans, rice, and plantains for sides. It was delicious and made our day. What hospitality!!

Family place, warm, welcoming and delicious.

By Miss Savvy Travels |

I saw this restaurant come up in my TikTok when I was looking for places to eat around Times Square that are not touristy. I was also hoping to find food that was affordable and had really good portions, I feed hungry people and we do like good food! Well, let me tell you, seven of us ate lunch for $120.00 (that's absolutely insane in this area, where it can be 20-$40 a person for a meal easily) and there was food left over to eat for dinner! We met the owner. She was wonderful. I could tell that she was the owner just by the way that she was behind the counter working. Everyone in there was great, they were very attentive. We found two tables at the back where we all sat, and I had a baby sleeping in a stroller, which was not a problem. We folded up the other stroller and put it in between the tables. So yes, this is a very family, friendly establishment. I held the tables while the rest of my family went up to the counter to eat, and the woman helping them brought me over two pieces of chicken realizing that I hadn't ordered anything. I told her don't worry I'm coming to get mine after they get settled. We loved the Cuban sandwiches, we all tried different things, but their rice and beans and pernil are amazing! Service was truly great with such a welcoming family vibe.

Fantastic food, a hidden gem

By Joe1878 |

We popped in Margon for lunch and had a fantastic time. Huge portions of delicious food, served in a no nonsense, diner setting. It's brilliant. The salmon, saffron rice and red beans was as good as anything I had in New York. Well worth a visit. The staff are brilliant, excellent, friendly service.

Delicious

By Ian |

Close to Times Sqaure, but this hidden gem was only filled with locals. Excellent Cuban food. Good prices. Place fills up so grab a seat quickly!

Great Food; Extremely Reasonable

By rrp_69 |

The food was excellent and the prices were extremely reasonable. You get LOTS of food. No one finished their entire meal. Definitely will go back again on future visits.

Where suits roll up their sleeves and eat lunch

By Tambalini |

Margin is a definite must go whenever I go to the Big Apple. Lunch time is filled with locals on lunch with their sleeves rolled up and grabbing a great affordable meal. The Cubano sandwich is fresh, pressed and delicious. The soups are hearty and wholesome. The people make you feel at home and what else do you need besides great food at great prices? Enjoy!

They had me at 'Cuban Coffee'...

By goldenparadox |

Unfortunately, we never got around to eating food at Margon, but visited daily, okay twice daily, for a Cuban coffee. The Cuban coffee was authentic and delicious. Be warned though, it's VERY hot, and since there's no cardboard sleeves, it was helpful that we were wearing gloves. Although we never ate the food, it smelled and looked so good and authentically Cuban. We will definitely add it to our "must eat at list" next time we are in NYC.

yum

By Father-of-Dragons71 |

This place is certainly nothing fancy. In fact, it truly qualifies as a hole-in-the-wall joint. However, the food was delicious and fresh. It was also very reasonably priced. If atmosphere doesn't matter, check out this outstanding deal in the Times Square/Theater District area. Bonus: A clean (small) bathroom.

Twice is nice for breakfast sandwiches.

By 416warner |

A real find in midtown. If you are in the neighborhood, check out the best breakfast sandwich in Manhattan. Awesome and fresh. After two mornings, the friendly staff knew we were from out of town (out of country actually). The other breakfast dishes being ordered looked fantastic. Wish we had more time to sample some evening meals, but we will be back.

FAMILY ORIENTED AMAZING SPOT

By De'Marcus |

As a southerner it’s tough to walk to place and be greeted with a genuine smile and willingness to serve. After I found this gem, I couldn’t stop coming. The staff greets me with a smile, and even help me with my Spanish! Their energy is contagious, there’s great Spanish music playing too! You can choose to order and sit or go through the line and be on your way. It’s a cozy spot with low prices, which is PERFECT for the overpriced Times Square area. This Latin spot will get you full and you will leave happy! Will def.be back

The Place Goes Hard

By Werkbund |

Absolutely delicious, distinct, and friendly. What a fun place. Had some great food. Tried goat tail which was delicious, as was the chicken. Coming back.

Awesome food!!

By Lucy A |

Such a great little find, so much food on offer and the place being crammed, for me, meant it was a great establishment. We had the Cuban sandwich, being only in NYC for a couple of days, we wanted to try the main event. It did not disappoint! So tasty, packed with flavour, service was quick too. Should I visit NYC again, I’ll definitely be back!

The dive you were looking for!

By Dan V |

This place is well reviewed on trip advisor, and it's for good reason. I like to find the dive shops with amazing food, and Margon does not disappoint. It's counter service and very small, so know what you want when you step into the line. The Cubana was by far the best I have had. AND it's Cuban made by Cuban people. Not NYCs version of Cuban, but actual Cuban food. There is no decor to speak of, no frills, 5 tables or so with an eat in counter. The prices are reasonable for 1/2 a block off the square for sure. Just pop in and eat lunch. You'll enjoy it. It's money well spent.

Tasty.

By Tima J |

Very very tiny hard to find spot but food is very tasty. Fast service. Worth the trip if you are in mid-town.

Best kept secret, excellent & affordable Spanish food in Midtown New York city.

By richard s |

As a tourist in any city one is always seeking to find a restaurant with good food at budget. You can check yelp and be overwhelmed with countless names and unsure reviews. I have a name of very good Cuban restaurant called Margon for anyone who is looking one. The food there is simply great; freshly prepared hot delicious Spanish food and always taste good whenever you go there which reflects consistency and quality. I have occasionally been going there for over 20 years. Almost all the items on menu taste great like Media noche sandwich Cuban sandwich Roast chicken Beef stew Fried King Fish Pork Chop Palomilla Steak Tripe soup with Pig feet Oxtail Pot Roast Fried chicken Margon’s Shrimp Ceviche The physical description of the restaurant is that it is long and narrow with tables and chairs to sit, most of the time it is very crowded inside. To order food you have to stand in line in front of displayed food and pick the ones you like from the help of servers behind the counters. The Servers are really pleasant and there is a lady name Carmen who is especially very helpful. Normally i would order the Roast Chicken which is the best and it comes with either white or yellow rice; I prefer the yellow rice and they also give you a choice of beans either red or black And added fried sweet plantains to your plate. Do not forget to help yourself with free buttered Bread wrapped in white paper for you to eat. My other choice when I feel to eat healthy is Green salad topped with Avocado along with fried King fish and no rice to go. If you are happy with the server you can always leave some tips for them even though it is a self serve place. In all I consider this restaurant food more like a comfort food that your mother would serve you and would make you happy. If you in New York on vacation , please go to this restaurant find out for yourself what I just shared Name is Margon Cuban, Latin American 136 W 46th St, New York 10036 (Btwn 6th & 7th Ave) Tel: 1212-354-5013

Spring Break with our teenagers. Great authentic food, excellent customer service, from the time we walked in the door. Small, quaint and comfortable setting.

Tasty & Friendly

By Ricardo M |

Best white rice with beans I've had in the US. The Cuban sandwiches are authentic, fresh, and full of flavor. The staff will make you feel at home. The only downside I find is how early they close (5pm I believe), because I would love to go the for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Great Food! Recommended!

By jmiller64 |

Okay, this is an absolute Hidden Gem in NYC! Just go. It's right off Times Square and is easy to get to. We went here and ate while waiting to check in to our hotel, and are SO GLAD that we did! Such great food! We had Roast Chicken, and it was beautifully done! It is served in seasoned juice, and that keeps it wonderfully moist. The seasoning was excellent. It was served with black beans and rice, which my wife enjoyed very much. It is the little things that make the difference. And, they're searching to find a good, cold can of soda for me was very much appreciated! The restaurant is very simple. If you need posh surroundings, you're out of luck. This is a classic, shotgun-shaped, downstairs place. But, it is great! Grab some food, grab a table and enjoy!

Excellent

By Marilyn L |

We ate here this evening after reading good reviews and highly recommend it, very friendly, great food, big portions, reasonable prices for Times Square including beer. It’s where the locals go which is always a good thing!

A slice of Havana

By Joseph P |

I love Margon! This was one of Mayor Ed Koch's favorite places...and it's no wonder why. It's pure New York, devoid of tourists, busy, bustling, inexpensive, crowded, tiny, and making the best Cuban food in the City, including the BEST Cuban sandwiches outside of Havana!

Best Cuban's In The City!

By thedailyguru |

If you're looking for what is bar-none the best Cuban sandwich in all of NYC, look no further. Melted into tasty goodness on order, I've yet to have an even remotely less-than-fantastic sandwich. The staff are always friendly, and if the inside is packed, just head East down 46th and there are a number of places to sit and enjoy your food.

Best place to eat in Times Square

By William H |

If you blink, you will miss this hole in the wall. The steak sandwich was amazing. The Cuban coffee and tropical shakes were so delicious that we kept going back for more throughout our trip. Highly recommended.

Delicious Food

By PackerFanatic |

We found out about Margon through some reviews on the web, and walked a few blocks out of our way to get there. The food made it so worthwhile! The Cuban sandwich, steak with peppers and onions, and sides (yellow rice, black beans, and plantains) were delicious! Portion sizes were large. The place was crowded at lunch time, a testament to their good food. Prices were extremely reasonable. One server in particular was very helpful in assisting us with their ordering system. The atmosphere is rather run-down and dingy, but the food and service are awesome.

Awesome for a quick, inexpensive, delicious, and filling lunch

By JenHen2003 |

This is the type of great hole in the wall restaurant you hope to find. It was recommended to me by a receptionist while in town on business. Staff was helpful in making recommendations, letting you try things. Food was plentiful and yummy, and with a lunch special, VERY affordable. This isn't fancy; everything is served cafeteria style, but if you like finding good food and don't insist on fancy presentation or "ambience" (other than the hustle and bustle of an obviously popular local spot), then this place is for you.

Brave the queue

By Allymac7710 |

This busy little hub is little more than a canteen but it truly hit the spot for us. The place was queued out the door and it is clearly a favourite in the area. We got the Cubana special to go and it really hit the spot. Absolutely gorgeous. Meticulously made and prepared fresh. It's very reasonably priced and look after their customers with friendly, efficient service and gorgeous food. Go!

Can you say "salty"?

By hotfrog328 |

Wanted to try this because of the reviews. My wife had the roasted chicken leg which was tender and moist but salty. I had the pork chop which was very dry and extremely salty. If I had poured salt on it from the box it couldn't have gotten any worse. Staff were friendly.

Excellent!

By Paolob67 |

Staff friendly. They recognize un after 8 month, in the real time we get in. Great food, worth the price you pay. The cuban sandwich is the first item to taste.

Great Sandwiches and Staff

By RabyFamily |

Went to eat dinner at Margon's on December 27th. Need to remember that it closes at 5:00 pm. Went with the family to lunch on the 28th. The cuban sandwiches were excellent. The steak sandwich was outstanding. The staff was very friendly and I can't wait to return to try something besides a sandwich.

One of my all time favorites!

By rencar |

I get to NYC 2-3 times a year and ALWAYS make sure to visit Margon. The food is delish, and well priced, the atmosphere warm and friendly despite being very very busy. The folks who work there are so nice and in my experience always willing to be helpful when there's a question about a menu item or give a recommendation. It is tiny so it isn't a place you'll be able to sit and linger but hey you're in NYC and have lots of places to go right? That said, you won't be hurried. Very varied crowd from local business people and workers from Times Square to tourists. Small but clean single bathroom.

A must visit!!

By Bruce L |

It's at the center of Times square, off on a side street. But you smell the food from the end of the street. The line can be long but o, so worth it. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful at the same time. However, whoever serves you always gives a huge portion of food. You do not, and I mean do not leave hungry or unhappy. A must visit, I will next time in the area.

Yum!

By Shanna L |

Landed in NYC and got to the hotel starving. Happened upon this place after reading a few reviews. It was Fantastic! The service was great and the food was just simply delicious. Don't walk by! Go in!

Very good food

By 2019Asitravel |

Cuban restaurant. Close to Times Square? Sign me in. A little door leads you into this small, cramped place. You wait in line, see what is on today’s menu, order it, take your tray, pay and if you are lucky grab a seat at the table. The staff is fun and I went on by their choice picking a ox stew with rice and a coke for 15 USD. Yes the place is small, looking cheap and cramped. Yes, you take your food on plastic plates and on plastic trays. But the food is great. The meat was delicious and the sauce as well. I didn’t expect it to be this good but I was in for a great surprise as I started eating. The flavors, the spices, the mixed rice all made for a great meal before heading on to visit The Top of The Rock. Yes, I can honestly admit that I would visit this place another time because of its great food. Plus I would love to taste and sample new Cuban dishes. You can find this place at 136 W 46th St.

Surprisingly Good

By hw3itan |

South East Asians will recognise the restaurant as a 'Mamak' equivalent. Doesn't look like much but the food was gloriously amazing! This being our first Cuban food experience, we really didn't know what to get and I guess it showed on our faces because we were offered bites of free samples from various dishes from the very chilled and friendly staff there and they all tasted amazing that we got even more confused! Finally we settled on chicken and bone marrow dishes. So good and so inexpensive!

Authentic vibe, great food

By Cecilie H |

Very authentic atmosphere, and don't let the shabby looks fool you - food was amazing and prices fair. Went there for lunch on a cold February day, highly recommendable!

Deliciously perfect

By Kimberly LaMarre |

The number of locals eating here told me this would be a treat. The crunch of grilled bread, melting cheese, salty meat and tasty pickle. Just Yummo! It’s a quiet gem that all should enjoy.

Average meal at plain lunch counter

By LynnCactusWren |

My husband and I went here for lunch. We had read some on-line reviews of this restaurant that were quite positive. I suspect that the local Cuban and Caribbean community gave this restaurant a lot of positive reviews to be supportive of a restaurant serving food from home. This section of 46 Street had a sign proclaiming it Hispanic Restaurant Street, or something like that. We saw some police officers eating here, which I always take as a sign of a good local restaurant. They were smart enough to tell the server behind the counter to limit the portion size: “not too many plantains.” My husband and I were excited about trying the fried plantains. They were good. My husband ordered some kind of beef and I ordered some kind of pork. These dishes tasted average to my American palate. Also, the portions were huge! Unfortunately we could not eat it all. We were staying at a hotel and did not have a refrigerator to store leftovers. The service was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The prices are quite reasonable for such a large amount of food. The ambiance is below-average lunch counter.
