We were a group of 10 in for a prix fix menu tasting. If money isn't a factor for you - then this place was the bomb! Everything was delicious, hot and right on trend. The menu changes daily and we left it up to the restaurant to pick our courses. They were great in accommodating 2 allergies in the group as well. They have a great drink package that was very reasonable that I would suggest asking about! Only downside was when trying to settle the bill. We wanted to pay separately - and this was obviously a big inconvenience for the staff...I even calculated the cost per person for them, organized the credit cards and/or cash of each guest and had the whole thing taken care of quite quickly (we were also the last people in the restaurant as we had a 9pm reso so this didn't hold up any other customers). Regardless, I could have passed on the attitude, but we didn't let it spoil the great meal and even better company!

When visiting Williamsburg we always have a drink at Marlow & Sons! It's just next to the Diner restaurant and the little shop in front of the bar/restaurant is adding to the charm of this unique place.

We happened into this place by process of illumination on a Monday night. My daughter and loved the vibe and the other patrons. Small, quaint & friendly. Our waiter gave us great recommendations and explained the menu in delicious detail! So well that we by far over ordered and was not able to eat much of our entrees. But they were delicious! We should have stopped with the white pizza!! It was beyond description good & plenty to share. The aioli the fresh bread rested on was better than any I have ever had! What a great neighborhood café!

For amazing food - usually southern style this is the place. You'll be dining elbow to elbow with some of the leading rock stars and Hollywood stars who happen to be in New York. But the attention is mostly on the food which is very serious and very good.

Farm to Table restaurant, easy walk from the first M Train Brooklyn stop (Just down from Peter Lugar's). Informal farm like tables. Bubbly enthusiastic waitress). Started with the Morel toast Appetizer, delicious, mains included Soft Shell crabs (Not quite New Orleans standard, but nicely done) and Lamb meatballs. Side order of the "Crispy Rice" is worth sharing for the table. Also added a Spinach salad which was fine but nothing extraordinary. But overall a very nice experience from the bartender through the waitress. Nice option if you want to try something outside of Manhattan.

We arrived on a drizzly night for what seemed a very early dinner (6 pm) to find Marlowe and sons already half full, and why not - it's a cool rustic space with a mix of shared and individual (squashed) tables, great beers and cocktails and an interesting French-driven wine list. And that is before you start on the food. We were greeted by delightful waitstaff who knew the menu well, and delivered drinks almost as they were requested. The menu is brief, beginning with a number of shared plates/appetisers followed by three main dishes. So often this means scrounging around for something, anything, that you feel like eating, but fear not - every item on this list is carefully sourced, thoughtfully prepared and Hallelujah! Properly seasoned. The oysters are freshly shucked, needing little but their own liquor and a squeeze of lemon, although the sourdough and butter with sea salt didn't detract..a decent slice of potato tortilla was fine, but the watercress and bean salad was lifted to great heights by warm croutons and dill. Brick chicken with smokey sweet potato was possibly the best chicken dish ever eaten by those at the table (poulet de Bresse not excluded). A striped sea-bass paired with wilted greens and pumpkin purée with a sauce bordelaise had a deep rich flavour not hinted at in its description. This is such smart cooking. Yes it is hipster, in the nicest most inclusive way. And yes it is dark and a little cramped, but it is worth every minute longer that you stay to eat their down-home ice cream flavours (toasted milk or cinnamon spice? Cocoa nib or apple sorbet?) with perhaps another glass. What a great spot - lucky Brooklyn and lucky NYC.

It was a rare insanely warm day after a brutal winter. The sun is out and my friend crash my space and never really stayed in williamsburg. So I wanted to show him my favorite spot. Marlow and Son. One of the many great things Andrew Turlow created. We had a great brunch. It was a bit more pricey. Yet I understand the area is changing. So if people are willing to fork it why not? I still enjoyed my dish. The only thing my hot chocolate didn't have enough chocolate in it I had to send it back twice to add more chocolate. I'mean a real chocolate lover for the chocolate to be from Mast brothers, they should know the appropriate measure to make a real hot chocolate. They even charge me an extra fee. Which I didn't really agree with. Yet after I got the proper scoopso of chocolate it tasted more than just almond milk with a subtle taste. Even my friend agreed.

Andrew Tarlow, the owner of Marlow & Sons, Diner, Romans, Reynards and Achilles Heel, has a true vision when it comes to creating amazing Brooklyn dining experiences. His flawless attention to detail in food sourcing, emphasis on local fare, and happy employee philosophy typify Brooklyn fine dining. The dishes are simple, delicious, yet unpretentious as is the staff and vibe. Highly recommended for first timers to Brooklyn and a great spot to visit after a long walk back to Brooklyn over the Williamsburg bridge. Also, they have one of the best breakfast sandwiches known to man!

I left my wallet there a few months ago. It fell behind the bench where i was sitting against the wall. I went back the next day to ask about the wallet and nothing! So i cancelled everything and went on with my life. THEN 1 month later i get a call form the park slope food co-op saying that someone called THEM to tell them they had my wallet!?? which was very very weird since my co-op card is burried deep in my wallet and my ID is front and center and prominent. I am easily found when you google my name. I am a photographer and my contact info is right on my website. I asked the manager at marlow when he called if my $ was still there and he said"i dont know" which is VERY strange. because for him to have found my co-op card he HAD to have gone thru my entire wallet. So i show up the next day and sure enough the $250 i had in my wallet is missing. OH BUT THE BEST PART was when i asked the manager oh wow "did you JUST find my wallet" and he said no it has been sitting here for awhile?!?! Ok so apparently the staff at marlow does not think it is a big deal to not return customers wallets...whatever! so i complain and they give me a gift certificate. when i went the next week for lunch there was a huge curly hair in my food, barf...i started to feel this place is just doomed, cursed. I happened to be sitting in front and overheard the 2 managers speaking and i introduce myself at first they were super friendly and when i tell them my story about the wallet they clam up and get very cold! and rude. they said it is not their job to return lost wallets. I mean i can understand that if it is like a mcdonalds or someting but this place charges $6 for like 5 olives. It was honestly hysterical to see this moron JUSTIFY his resturaunts and employees actions in basically stealing my $ and holding onto my wallet for a month! anyway i got back a month later with some friends to redeem my gift certificate and we had a HUGE feast! we told them we do not want to go over the $150 mark so let us know when things start adding up. anyway the bill comes out to like over $200 but the waiter tells us we have a $50 credit...i tried to tell him he was wrong but he just did not have the brain capacity to understand the diffrence so we left with our booty! moral of the story Marlow can eat a d%$#@

They have oysters fresh every day, which isn't that big a deal now, but sure was when they started. Do you want to meet the farmer that raise the pig you are going to eat for dinner? Okay. How about the cheesemaker who created that creamy snack you took too long to eat because you couldn't stop talking about it? Oh wait, do you love listening to great music while drinking cocktails made by the nicest bartenders in button up shirts around? Great. I'll see you at Marlow.

I can spend a whole day in there!

In Williamsburg where everything is "local" and "organic", it doesn't necessarily mean it's good. But this restaurant proves worthy of every "yammmm" adjective I know. We had oysters to start, all super fresh and delicious, then the porgy and the duck breast. Amazing brussel sprots on the sides. Everything on the plate shines from great produce quality. And the home made buttermilk ice cream to finish of the perfect dinner was just to die for! They don't take reservations, so calculate 30 minutes with an aperetif at the bar while you wait.

I had the lobster/scallop fettucine which was spicy and practically perfect in every way. My spouse, friends and I split the chocolate caramel tart, topped with sea salt and O.M.G. I can't really describe it any other way but to say it's the best dessert I've ever tasted. The only off-putting thing about this place was that at 9:30 p.m. on a Saturday night it was so crowded we couldn't even stand. We were forced outside into the cold with our drinks to wait 90 minutes for a table. I imagine this is what most of NYC restaurants are like on a Saturday night, but it's a shame the place has to be so small for so much deliciousness that lurks within.

Food is tasty diner style, not cheap. I enjoy sitting there on a cold day and look outside. one of those spots that has the old school charm mixed in with new era diy style.

good food but wasn't worth the car ride from Park Slope. If you get there before noon, order at the counter. Table service starts at lunch. Full of young artists and supermodel types. Left to wonder how they ate the food and stayed so thin... food and coffee was really good. It was filling and perfectly cooked. recommend to friend if they had something to do in the area.

I have been going to Marlow and Sons for 4? 5 ? years. Tonight I had one of the worst meals I have ever had in New York City, sadly, the restaurant has run its course. Poor service, loud and bad music, really poor food. How sad, it was always my favorite place and also where I brought every out of town guest. It used to be a very special place, now it is run of the mill or worse. And thanks for the soup instead of the crostini I ordered, bravo.

We had a lovely breakfast (eggs and rye Bread) at Marlow and Sons. Unfortunately we got to sit in the back of room, which was a little to dark / quiet for us. But really good service and breakfast (they make really good coffee and cake)

We'd heard great things about this place and weren't disappointed when we went for breakfast. We had "Biscuit with scrambled egg, cheese and bacon" (for non locals the "biscuit is a bit like a scone but is quite delicious and works really well). The coffee was top notch and the service warm and friendly. What's not to like?

Home cooking if you grew up in North Carolina. Or somewhere in the South. But now fried chicken and grits. More Unusual combinations of first quality food with a bit of attitude. Good attitude. Nothing low calorie, no skim anything. Just good full bodied eats.

We had breakfast here three times during our recent stay in Williamsburg as it was within walking distance from the apartment where we were staying. First of all, the staff at this place is genuinely friendly, which I always find a major plus. The place looks and feels very cool as well, without being too much of a hipster's spot. I didn't care very much for their croissants (chocolate and almond), but all the rest of the food was just heaven: yoghurt with granola and fresh fruit, bread pudding, scones with rhubarb and vanilla, poached eggs. It was also one of the few places were I managed to get a decent green tea. We'll be back!

This is a welcoming, warm space. The back room has a long bar, wood paneling, and some communal seating - it was perfect on the blustery day I ate there. The cocktail I ordered was well executed. Service was casual and friendly. So relieved to not have pretentious service at a good place. The menu was limited, but the dishes were fresh and well prepared. The pozole and the whitefish salad on a bagel both hit the spot. Simple, but oh so good. A place that seems easy to become a regular in.

This is my local coffee shop, and there is very little wrong with it. Although being a little over priced, I still find myself going back day after day. They have tables outside that are always filled with locals and on the weekends, its very popular for people to travel to come here for brunch. The biscuit and egg sandwich is by far the best thing they have on the menu and the pastries are all to die for! Also, it is a good place to come for happy hour after work and for light bites.

I've been going to Marlow's for a few years and am always impressed by the quality of their food. It's a perfect spot for a date or a group of good friends. Highly recommended.

The chicken, which I understand is their signature dish was good. Crispy skin and moist meat. But...it was just chicken. My sisters duck leg was also good although she didn't like the sauce...some flavor that was "off". I see why it is a popular spot. The vibe was good, a lot of people in a very small space? Looked like a lot of locals and friends getting together. We made a reservation and were seated after a few minutes. Our table was the smallest table I have ever seen for two. It was no bigger than a TV tray so it was a little uncomfortable trying to have a glass of wine, goblet of water and a dinner plate....not room enough. We got an appetizer and a entree each and shared a bottle of wine. Total bill was around $145. Menu choices were few. All in all I can't recommend this restaurant.

De take away coffee was very nice! We took it almost every morning. So we dicided to go for diner here aswell. But that was very dissapointed. The vegetarians among us got just a plate with vegetables, Some things still a bit raw. One of the meatdishes was burned black. Although we did'nt have to pay for two meals it was still to expensive for what we've got. I 've read in different reviews the breakfast and lunch were oké, so we sould have done that instead diner, i suppose.

great original food. great service. impeccable timing. speechless. this is the place you come when you are not worried about how mch it costs. come in and get what you want. sometimes it costs to be the boss!

I ate here with my sister on our annual New York trip. We had researched where we would go for dinners well before we made the trip. The reviews on Marlowe and Sons convinced us to put them on our list. We loved the ambiance. It is a happening place with lots of locals. We didn't have a reservation, and they found us a seat within 10 minutes. As in most NY restaurants, the seating was very tight and the table was small. The noise level was manageable. We could talk without yelling. We started out with raw oysters. I chose 4 different varieties. They were $3.75 apiece. I found them fresh, and wonderfully tasty. The mignonette sauce they served with them was just right. My sister ordered a crostini with smoked and pickled fish on it. She didn't care for the taste, but I loved it. There was so much going on in my mouth it was hard to pay attention to conversation. For entrees we had the brick chicken, and the duck leg. The chicken is an example of a simple dish done perfectly. The skin was crispy and the meat juicy. The duck was cooked perfectly, but I didn't care for the sauce they used, but my sister loved it. So, it was just a matter of personal taste, as was the crostini. The service was good and unpretentious. The prices are reasonable by NY standards. I would recommend that you try it.

Atmosphere is perfect to dine and sip for hours- Food was prepared perfectly from the soup to the whole fish- Most ingredients organic, localized, and you can taste the love with which the food is made. Tucked away under the Willamsburg Bridge with an old tavern feel.

I love this place. not only because it's convenient (I live across the street) but because of the exquisite pastries, the european sundries in the front shop and the lovely backroom where they have amazing meats, cheese, wine and raw bar.

Fresh coffee, egg sandwich, and bagel. All done to perfection. Marlowe & and Sons is the place to start your day in Williamsburg.

This place seems to do everything - breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, eat in or take out, sit in or sit out (according to weather), coffee and a pastry, or just the bar in the evening. It attracts a very hip crowd of locals, and you will probably have to wait for a table - try to time your arrival and eating strategically. The staff are young, casual, friendly and helpful. The oysters are excellent, burgers are good according to my sons, and I can vouch for the Bloody Mary! The location is down towards the river near the Williamsburg Bridge. It's not the cheapest place around, but if you want some atmosphere, a bit of buzz, and good food and drinks, this is the place.

Menu Catapult .

Good reviews have guided us here and we were rewarded with a very pleasant atmosphere, broad selection of beers, friendly staff and tasty food (a bit on the spice side). Nevertheless there was a disappointing but. When the chocolate caramel desert kicked our pallets the need for an espresso emerged in great force. Unfortunately and very disappointing this was not possible cause the coffee machine was turned off ( which resto that respect itself does that?!).

We had heard so many raves about this place that we were very surprised to find the food was not really very good at sticker-shock prices. A tempura battered vegetable starter was pretty tasteless and both the pork cutlet and bluefish entrees were tough (overcooked). Service was very friendly and the wine was delicious but alas, we won't be back.

Sat outside on a beautiful Friday evening. Great Williamsburg eatery, a classic on the neighborhood. Menu is small but all our dishes were expertly created and were very delicious. Definitely a place not to miss.

We stayed right around the corner from Marlow and Sons and we kept cooming back for breakfast. It's a really cozy place, the food is good and they serve a damn good coffee.

I went there one time and will certainly be back here the first time I'm back in Williamsburg. Service, food, atmosphere and crowd there, all was perfect.

Excellent food in the nabe... a little crowded sometimes, but yummy stuff. I reccomend the brick chicken... mmm.

On a recent evening, a group of friends without reservations opted for a bar seat rather than a table. As cocktails were being swiftly prepared by the excellent bartender, the night grew longer as small plates of the excellent food were delivered. The white bread and the oysters were especially good.

Stumbled upon this while walking around Brooklyn in the summer heat. It was like a little oasis in the desert. Small tavern-style restaurant with a straight to the point menu which changes daily. The duck liver pate was awesome and oysters were super fresh. The brick chicken was so good, crisp skin and tender meat although it was a little uncooked in the middle. The staff gave us a pie on the house which we demolished in no time. I would return again and recommend this fantastic place to anyone.

This place was recommended to us by a few people and it did not disappoint. The cocktails, wine, food and dessert were all incredible quality. The vibe was amazing and the staff were chill and helpful!

Marlow & Sons is a small, country French space behind a provisions shop on Broadway, in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood. Come early and tuck yourself into a corner in this dark wood, beadboard, hewn wood bench and marble topped bistro table haven. There's a full bar and a modest menu with nothing but delicious things on it. The poached eggs with cauliflower and parmesan are hearty without being overly carbohydrate. Served in a warm bowl, there are two nicely poached egg atop a little spread of polenta and accompanied by roasted cauliflower and broccolini with sautéed spinach and escarole thrown in for an earthy, robust flavor. I also recommend the sausage, which is maple delicious. The biscuit, served with your choice of egg, ham, bacon or sausage is worthy of any southern bakery but dressed up for the northeast. The price is reasonable for the quality of food and the atmosphere. My only complaint is that the coffee was a bit weak and yet bitter, lacking the dark, smooth, quality that is found in most local coffee houses. The service was friendly, welcoming and competent without being overbearing. This is a will-return spot for me.

Had our table in less time than expected. Excellent service. Delicious food. We never miss the chicken under a brick.

Having been here for coffee a number of times, headed back finally for dinner. We were underwhelmed (sadly) Highlights were the starters and puddings. Mains left a lot to be desired. Wine choices massively overpriced and of low quality (house wines) Staff were on the whole fairly miserable with one notable exception - he really stood out against the bland backdrop of his colleagues (and the fish). Makes you realise that London dining scene is really rather good! Will stick to coffee, tea and cakes at Marlow & Sons from now on.

Food is always great here. Last night they had a ‘spicy fried chicken’ special. It was delicious. Also started with chicken liver pate which is always good here. Great ambiance in this place and a bar with super good drinks.

This place needs to get over itself. A charming environment with lousy, aloof, misleading front staff. Do you need reservations or not? I think it depends on how you look. What a bummer of a wannabe hipster bar

Went for lunch. It's counter service with food brought to table. Liver pate, Potato tortilla (not sure why it's called that, it's like a cake) and salami's were delicious. Oysters were tasty but small.

Being early risers (jetlag will do that) we came across M&S early morning. We ordered coffee (latte) which were excellent and some breakfast. Both croissant and pain of chocolat were fantastic but the pumpernickel bagel with scrambled eggs stands out. Probably the best bagel I've ever had, and I love bagels. My friend ordered the brioche with sausage and eggs, which was also a treat. Combined with great atmosphere and a wide selection of other products, I'd highly recommend it...

nice wee place. cool inside - not beside very much. ignore the outside. food was a bit meh and fairly overpriced. limited options for vegetarians.

I’m starting out with four stars, but if I tried it a couple more times, it might rate five. I’m working with limited info. This is essentially a sandwich and coffee shop. It’s the other half of the Marlow business, called Marlow & Daughters, which is essentially a butcher and bread shop. Based on the sign that says sandwich arrive around 11, sometimes 12, I assume the sandwiches are made at the other shop and walked the few hundred feet to the next shop. They don’t appear to be warmed or prepped after delivery, which was a bit of a bummer. That being said, I had the Scuttlebutt, which consists of eggs, pickles, olives, capers, herbs, feta, and pimento mayo. I am not an olive fan, but could not taste them and didn’t see them. So either they weren’t there or I didn’t notice. The sandwich was quite good. Ingredients fresh, flavors were great. Bread was crunchy. I had debated the ham and cheese, but the fact it was a cold sandwich and not toasted on side made me go for the Scuttlebutt. The staff was helpful and gave me their recommendations. The outdoor seating area is super nice with plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. Low key.

The perfect start to a long winter's day! We kept it simple and all three of us ordered the bacon egg and cheese on a homemade biscuit- and we spent the rest of our holiday vacation trying to duplicate it at home. I don't even know what kind of cheese it was but it was perfect. The biscuit was warm and crumbly and messy, and I was happy to make an adventure out of it. I almost ordered a second, but we decided to have a few of their breakfast cocktails instead. They have another shop up the road, Marlow & Daughters, selling fresh fruit and vegetables. They were selling tote bags with their logo on them, and right about now I am kicking myself for not grabbing one! I will be back.

We finally crossed over to Brooklyn to try this spot out. We had dinner here with 3 other friends. It's not a big restaurant and I would suggest you go early as it fills up quickly. The food was well prepared, the oysters (for appetizers) we Delicious, and the main course was well presented and tasty. I was expecting more of a beef/pork selection recognizing the butcher shop next door supplies the main ingredients for the menu. The menu's main course was a selection of three dishes (Chicken, fish, duck). All in all it was a good experience.

The food is good, but stay away from this place if you want to have a good time for a weekend brunch. The hostess was simply disrespectful from the very beginning. The kind that welcomes you as if you were bothering and throws you out in an even worse manner. We hadn’t even finished our coffees (nor had received the bill) and the hostess barked at us asking us to leave, because she wanted the table free. We had not been there for more than 45min and hadn’t finished our drinks. The hostess then asked our very nice server to “get rid of them as quickly as possible”. It’s a disgrace for a place that wants to rival amongst the top restaurant and brunches in Williamsburg. The food is good but it’s no excuse to treat any client like a piece of raw meat that you want to get rid of. This is a “no tipping”’policy restaurant and it’s clearly not doing the program any favors. They’re taking advantage of this great policy and label to lower their standards and allow such behaviors by their staff. Shameful.

i love the concept of marlow & sons

A friend and I were staying nearby so we decided to try Marlow & Sons for breakfast. Food was DELISH...especially the breakfast biscuit! Coffee was terrific as well. On a nice day, there a several tables outside to enjoy the weather. Highly recommend!

We'd read about this place in London before we came - no reservations to we ventured there with high expectations - and more than fully meet and exceeded! We were there about 8.30pm / Wednesday - and packed to the rafters when we arrived Filled with locals and greta mixed crowd - cocktails at the bar while we waited. Table arrived about about 30 minutes - well within expectations - and the vibe and friendliness of all the staff made this a very very great place to be and were in no rush. Menu all verbal - no prices mentioned - but you know what you're expecting to pay so no panic - brilliant food, staff, service. Made you feel like you'd discovered the In-Crowd, and you were made to feel part of it - and vert welcome. Loved it - and we'll be back!

I never thought I'd find good biscuits outside of the south, but they exist at Marlow and Sons! When in town, I stop by nearly every morning for a biscuit or some other completely yummy pastry (the chocolate Mexican cookies are to die for) and a cafe latte. Marlow and Sons has a great laid back atmosphere and friendly staff. Already looking forward to my next trip back!

OMG what a way to start a day. With a slightly sore head from the night before, we headed to M&S and weren't disappointed: such breakfast delights soon put our worries to one side and we dove into to culinary delights - and it was breakfast. I could have ensconced myself in the corner and stayed all day.....

peter lugers overrated just make the detour to marlow and sons for a more interesting menu.better atmosphere, and much better steak

Cozy little restaurant with great food and very good service. Like most things in Brooklyn, the external view of the restaurant gives you no real indication of the quality of the food and the friendliness of the place. We had breakfast there and I would highly recommend it for their breakfasts. Generous portions and really well done - very tasty.

A simple unpretentious dining spot with absolutely delicious food. They make the ordinary very special. It is not worth a drive and really only for neighborhood dining as it is devoid of ambiance.

We were waiting for a table at Diner next door, so we were advised to go to Marlow & Sons for drinks while waiting. Diner was at capacity. Not a very big menu but they do things really well, and good wine options.

Small bar and restaurant but good food and service. I tried the potato tortilla and the lettuce radish salad. Very limited menu, check their website to be sure their is something you like. The potato tortilla was interesting but served cold like in Spain (I think). it is like a potato quiche. Lettuce and radish salad was great. Nice spot but limited menu. Would return if there were items I liked on the changing menu.

Stopped in on spec after walking around Williamsburg and due to the promise of oysters and it worked out incredibly. Did not expect 6 good oysters for $17 and the beef tartare on toast was even better. Limited range of food and only 3 draught beers but they do everything very well.

Slightly alternative but not overly so. Service very good, as was food. Lib v that it is a non gratuity place so that is built in to the cost. Wouldn't the world be so much simpler if that was standard so we know the cost, don't need to guess what is fair to tip and we simply choose to go back or not.

Unpretentious with delicious food - a winning combo! Portions were not large - they were just right for tasting and sharing a little. Although one in our party loved his meal so much it was gone before we could taste it! We went for the brick chicken and were disappointed that it was not on the menu the night we were there. We had a few different oysters - cannot remember which ones, but they were all great. Our one non-oyster eater ordered the olives which were plentiful and served warm. In fact it was such a generous portion that we shared it with the table next to us! The food was local and seasonal - loved that fresh corn and peaches which are perfect right now were represented. Their duck, lamb and fish were all nicely done. Well worth a visit.

We were four people and were super lucky that they had a table available when we arrived. We ordered the Baked Chicken, Arctic Char, Pork Steak, Pate and a Salad. The chicken was so succulent and juicy, exactly what I was looking for, the arctic char perfectly cooked and divine, the pork steak was served with an egg on top and happily devoured. The pate was smooth as silk and a gigantic portion, it's a meal in itself. We had a lovely waitress, she was friendly, attentive and had some great suggestions for us. Absolutely worth every penny and definitely on the re-visit list!

Just arrived in Brooklyn we had to eat and entered this "small" restaurant and it appeared "bigger" than expected. Not is size but in taste: we had a few starters to share: carrots, a soup with a bite, two more and one main: a nice sea bass. We were impressed with the presentation, the freshness and the combination of the different tastes. Deserts: chocolate and lemon cheese cake: perfect! We loved the place. In addition: wine by the glass.

Nice, cozy, unformal place serving a variety of delicious dishes - we were four persons and ordered a bunch of dishes for sharing, nice :-) - Actually the waiter stopped us before ordering too much, which is pretty cool, like she´d rather have satisfied customers than making ekstra money... We drank a bottle of amazing Vouvray, 2004 - 11 years old - fantastic, highly recommended!

Awesome cafe next to its more illustrious neighbour "Diner". Went there a few times for coffee and breakfast. Great organic food that tastes really fresh. Doubles as a quiet bar in the evening.... Good for watching the world go by!

The bartender was definitely generous with the amount of alcohol in our cocktails! They were really good. She also suggested white wine that was amazing with (really fresh). But it was pizza bianca that was absolutely yummy!! Totally recommended!! The staff members were very friendly and welcoming - the interior very trendy, hipster-y! The restroom a little dark and maybe not the cleanest, but still acceptable.

love the fennel salad with prosciutto, meats and cheeses and their paninis. really tasty and cute interiors

Love this place for everything! The staff is super friendly and nice. The food is always good! They change their specials daily and they have delicious oysters! The place itself has a great atmosphere, it's very cozy and when it's dark they use candles instead of electricity, which adds up to the charm of this restaurant.

We had been to this restaurant once before. As a visitor, you have to make a special trip on the subway to get there. the food is excellent as are the bloody marys, Service on this visit was lacking, but I am sure we will go back.

Went with my daughter and her boyfriend last time I was in Brooklyn. Great atmosphere, excellent friendly service and not going to break the bank either. If you are in the area, try it out. The only problem we had was the breakfast menu times were ambiguous and even the staff and manager were unsure as to when the hours were. Having such a small complaint is minuscule. Go and enjoy early and late.

Really cosy little place with delicious food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all great - we tried all three on different day. Very interesting ingredient combinations. We also enjoyed the informality. Very loud music in the evenings - and there is almost no light. We read the menu with the help of our cellphones! It is not a cheap option but very much worth the extra dollars.

Amazing food. Impeccable service. Would recommend to anyone willing to spend money for an amazing experience. Fresh ingredients and lovely staff.

Lovely breakfast (great granola!), delicious coffee, cute outdoor seating, kinda weirdly behaving staff, but if looked it from the experience point of view: it just adds to the character of this place. Would like to return when its bad weather to also test the waters inside -w hich equally looked attractive with its rustic wooden furniture and bohemian style.

I love the quaint feel of the restaurant. It was very cozy. The staff was amazing and made you feel right at home. The food was incredible. Everything we tried was amazing! I wanted to go back.

We traveled across the bridge to join friends for dinner while we were staying in Manhattan. This meal surpassed any of the other meals we had. Cozy yet comfortable, quirky in a good way. The meal was creative and bright. Tons of fresh vegetables and interesting flavors. Comfort food with a twist. Loved every morsel!

loved the food, waitress was super attentive and gratuity free = such a nice break after the heavy burden of extreme tipping in the usa

One of the place in williamsburg that manage to connect a "cool" environment with good quality food, wine and service. waiter are super competent and nice.

I had a realy good experience at this restaurant in Williamsburg. Despite the fact is located under a flyover, its premises are realy cool. We were sat inside on a not very confortable stools, but I think that was part of its laid back character. The lighting was quite dark somewhat creating a bit of a bar athmosphere along with the slightly loud music. The food was delicious. My oysters starter were well delivered and my main dish was mouth watering. Adding up to the good experience, the service was good and friendly.

My fiancé and I dined for a late lunch on a quiet afternoon. We were impressed with the quality of food. We had the poached eggs and ham sandwich. Menu items were a bit pricey but quality was great so we had no complaints. On a side note, lovely clean bathroom.

From ambiance to food, this is now tied for best restaurant in Brooklyn in my estimation.

Whilst on holiday in NYC my wife Nic and I got married. On the wedding day we turned up to Marlow and Sons without a reservation (having had a tasty beer the night before we had been hugely impressed by the laid back ambience of Marlow and Sons). Although on our arrival the back room was clearly full, we were 'squeezed in' to a perfect table for two, next to the bar. We were impeccably welcomed by all of the staff, and told continuously 'you are making us feel extremely underdressed.' The food, beers and cocktails were delicious, and we were made feel extremely welcome and comfortable, even though we stuck out like two sore thumbs in our wedding gear! All of the staff's kind hospitality and the atmosphere of the place made our special occasion perfect. We cannot recommend Marlow and Sons enough. To top it all off they wouldn't let us pay for the bill!

This is a little gem of a restaurant. It's owned and staffed by people who care about their products; great service and very, very good food. Be warned you may only have a selection of 5 appetizers and 3 entrees. But all are done excellently. Reservations are a good idea as the place is usually crammed full of young locals. A lot of whom seem to be regulars who know each other as well as the staff. They make their own bread and it must be among the very best in New York. Our table of 4 went through 4 baskets slathered with butter. I had the beef tartare and it was wonderfully spiced with mint and chili. It is hands down the best version I've ever had. The raw oysters were sparklingly fresh. The chicken liver pate was a table hit. The Brick Chicken was nicely done, but paled next to the tartare. Service was excellent throughout. If you find yourself in Brooklyn try to make time for Marlow and Sons. Take friends and have a great conversation night out.

Everything we had on the menu was prepared perfectly. We even ordered a basic chicken dish that was superb.

I had the poached eggs with served over chick peas. So delicious! My wife had the smoked white fish spread on a toasted bagel that was amazing. Our two year olds had panoteca (cooked sugar bread over nutella) but they were hooked on the pain au chocolat. This is a small, relaxed place, so if want noise, go somewhere else. They also serve lunch and dinner. On Fridays and Saturdays they have a midnight bar menu of oysters and lobster. Go!

Headed in for breakfast before we went out for the day and was not disappointed. GF had frittata and I chose the biscuits with eggs cheese and bacon - both really good. Excellent service too, and cute little back room away from the slightly mad take out section!

Went with friends for dinner and the service was very friendly and helpful. The food and portions of them were small for the cost. One of my friends got the brick chicken. It was two whole chicken legs grilled with a brick on top. It was $29. That's a little pricey. The pork with a few carrots was also small and $28. Although, the portions were small, the food was prepared well and tasted good. It's nice that the menu changes daily, but there were only three entrees on the menu. Fish, chicken and pork. I think they could use one or two more entrees so customers could have more of a choice. The group of us also thought the best deal was the mixed small plates, (I think only served on Monday nights) for $34. They tell you what it is. Great to share.

My family and I shared a meal with friends in this treasure of a restaurant in Brooklyn. The food was to die for - and we ate Everything on the menu, from soup to nuts! The offerings were innovative and delicious, and the Chef even came out to greet us. The rest of the staff functioned like a well-oiled machine, keeping us fed and happy for the entire meal. Prices are reasonable, and the restaurant includes a bar area and store/bakery. They have their own farm and butcher shop that provides all their meat (Marlow & Daughters), ensuring extremely high quality products. If you want a really great meal and a good experience for your money, check out this restaurant!

On a recent trip to New York, we ate twice at Marlow and sons. It is an old diner and has the character and feel of such. They do not have a printed menu so listen carefully. We had lunch one day--and I will say that their hamburger was awesome and I am not a big beef eater. They let me substitute a kale salad for the french fries and that was very kind of them. The salad however was salty --but then I do not add much salt when i cook so this may be a personal taste thing. Service was quick and attentive. My son had the fritata and it was also delicious. We were pleased enough with lunch that several days later (after my other son had joined us) that we returned for dinner-- We were seated right away but service was very slow--we waited for over an hour after we ordered. My sons got the steak for two--1.5 pounds and I ordered the pork chop. The steak come with baked potatoe with lobster and my son is allergic to lobster--they would only substitue the potatoe with french fries even though they had sweet potato with another dish and this is what my son would have preferred and they ended up with just spinach and steak--my pork was only luke warm when it was served. It was supposed to come with sauerkraut--but it was really red cabbage with some mild sweet and sour treatment. The gentlemen at the next table was from Belgium and had also ordered the pork and we both were disappointed with the red cabbage saurkraut . The other folks at that table said the trout and the duck breast were wonderful and they were served very quickly and they were leaving as we were served though and the table next to us had two tables come and go while we waiting. I am not sure if this was due to the steak order or not but it was order medium rare so I would not think this was the case. The cocktail selection was excellent and the cold snap was refreshing. They have a nice selection of beers but were out of the first beer one son ordered. They have several nice wines. I would definitely go back to Marlow and sons--the menu is varied and fresh.

Great experience all-around, service, atmosphere and the food was phenomenal!! Much better local farm fare than many of the imitators jumping on the slow-food local bandwagon.

Don’t be put off by the outside. A great little restaurant with an unusual menu. Great oysters ! Staff friendly and made some great recommendations

Lowered lights, cozy tables, excellent food. The people I dined with had dietary restrictions that were no problem for this small menu. All the gluten and dairy I ate was amazing too. Only negative was that the desserts seemed uninteresting, therefore I looked elsewhere.

While neighbor Diner gets Zagat's top rating, Marlow is right with it sharing the same kitchen. The menu changes daily with creative concoctions. We had striped bass -- perfectly cooked -- on a bed of vegetables that featured marinated cannelloni beans. We sat outside on the sidewalk "garden". (Potted plants strategically placed give the artistic impression of a garden. Brief but interesting wine list offered a Loire Sauvignon blanc to match the bass. Ginger ice cream with real espresso capped my evening while one companion had the chocolate-caramel torte.

Have been a fan of them for awhile. The food is simple but really well thought out. Earlier in the day I like to go with their house smoked lox or soft boiled eggs with a scone. Afternoons to me it's all about the salami sandwich.

We showed up early without a reservation & were given a great table. Although we just had appetizers and drinks our server could not have been more gracious. Great people watching. The fried butternut squash was different & delicious. Wonderful people watching!

I'd heard a lot about Marlow & Sons from friends. And having tried Diner a few months back we decided to grab a seat outside for a light dinner. Started with some oysters that were solid, especially the wellfleets. The crispy rice was awesome. The mixed lettuce salad was good and a large portion. The blue fish was very interesting. Overall an enjoyable meal.

My old breakfast place... It is so cute!
Special neighborhood Feel
Oh my the service attention was so amazing! Knowledge of wine, cocktails, beer, and locally sourced fresh food was exceptional. Cozy, but not crowded, informative, and perfect timing. Our local hosts told us about this place, and oh my what a find. Food was delicious creative but not pretentious. Brilliant.
