Mary O’s is internationally known for their amazing homemade scones, however they should also be internationally known for their outstanding customer service. I wanted to bring my mother in law some of Mary O’s amazing scones to her for mother’s day, when I call Mary O’s the day before mother’s day she said she was closed on Sunday but would personally come in to make scones and Irish soda bread for my mother in law. Mary is a mother herself and took the time to make a wonderful gift for my mother in law, I am truly grateful. The scones and soda bread were delicious and reminded my mother in law of her time growing up in Ireland. If you want great food and amazing service, go to Mary O’s! I am now a regular after this experience.

Friendly, family oriented, neighborhood restaurant. Feels like stepping into a pub in Ireland. Absolutely delicious shepherd’s pie and chicken pot pie, perfect portions and great prices. Relaxing and clean atmosphere, just perfect for any occasion.

If you want to experience the cozy, chill charm of an Irish pub you need to visit. My friend heard about their scones on instagram so we stopped in for dinner. The scones were hot and fresh out of the oven and were AMAZING. The food was delicious and Mary is just the most charming hostess! We felt like we were in an Irish pub in Ireland. I highly recommend Mary O’s! A don’t-miss spot when you’re in the city.

Had a great time here. The staff were a delight and got to meet Mary herself, and I gotta say- What a lovely woman! I'd highly recommend it to anyone travelling to NY

Good old fashioned bar with attentive service and warm personalities. I would go for the beer rather than the food, which is fine, but predictable.

First time staying on the LES and what a find Mary O' was. We were looking for a few drinks and wholesome food after a long day's sightseeing and that's exactly what we got. Lovely home cooked fare with a few pints had us sorted in no time. The charming owner Mary (yea really!) took time to talk to us and tell us about the locality. A traditional music session ensued for the night and the atmosphere was brilliant. So good we went back the next night and that's saying something in New York..!

The bartender chased me out of the bar when I tried to pee before my friends arrived and I ordered a drink. A bizarre experience and very unfriendly establishment

We were treated like a regular at "Cheers" our first time in. Great homemade Irish food and drinks of course.

Went to Mary O's on a Saturday evening and found great people, an amazing host and scones to die for. Mary herself is friendly, funny and by all accounts from her regulars, an incredible person. The "regulars" were warm, welcoming and fun! The best part of traveling is getting to know people who live in the area and we were able to do that here while enjoying Irish beer and scones! Will definitely go back!

Mary O'Hallaron has taken the old Irish pub and gave it a modern twist, There is traditional Irish comfort food like shepards pie, but there is also salmon, burgers, chicken dishes, vegetarian dishes, and Mary's homemade scones. The drinks are reasonably priced, and sometimes you will see Mary working the bar. Mary herself will personally see that you have the best dining experience. I had my retirement party at Mary O's, and I am panning another at Mary's in April. Don't just take my word. Go there and see why people are talking about Mary O's.

Just arrived back from NYC and had a fantastic last night with Mary and Marcie behind the bar. True Irish welcome and hospitality. The scones and Cottage pie were amazing. Thank you all again for a brilliant night.

Had the pleasure of stumbling upon this fantastic super friendly niche chic restaurant. Family friendly and excellent staff. The menu was very well thought out and gave a nice choice. The food was first class and the extremely efficient waiting staff went about their work in a very professional way. My family age from 4 to 13 and are fussy eaters but the food served was demolished and the children wanted to go back on each of our remaining stays. The proprietor is the head chef and she lets her food do the talking. 100% recommend this place suitable for young and old alike can be very intimate for couples but caters for all parties and does not disappoint. I have being each time I go to New York and will return in the very near future. I absolutely loved the food, the decor and the atmosphere.

Mary is the most adorable host, so so welcoming. We were visiting from the UK and saw her reviews on trip advisor before we went. I sent her a few emails before we arrived in NY and she replied with all my answers. So much so she recognised us on arrival as the UK group. She was so welcoming and lovely. She helped my friend out with many options of meals that were not on the menu as she was vegetarian, she couldn’t do enough for her. The shepherds pie was fantastic and the scones were amazing. I would honestly say give this place a go if you love the Irish charm and food. They even have live singers/musicians on, great place to eat and be entertained. Thanks Mary xx

What an amazing find!! Welcoming atmosphere, wonderful Irish music and Irish home cooking!!! Everything on the menu is delicious and their hot mulled apple cider is a thing of beauty! Thanks for a great time!!!

Mary O's is a gem in the lower east side. Not your typical lower East Side bar. The food is very good and the atmosphere is very inviting. You will typically see Mary tending bar or personally serving dinner. Mary is a very welcoming host and treats her customers like family. Although a bit off the beaten track on Ave A between 2nd and 3rd it is well worth the trip. Highly recommend.

Mary os was such a great place to visit..... so rich with real hospitality .... We felt so at home ...... Mary o herself made us a great irisb coffee ..... The food was so delicious and moderately portioned so we did not feel we were totally stuffed.....definitely will return and will tell any friends who visit nyc .... Thanks mary'o and all

My husband loves his Guinness and whenever we are in town, he will say, "where was that place where we had the great Guinness pour?" Then I remind him and we stop at Mary O's a couple of times while we are in town. The owner, Mary, is so accommodating, she knows her beer and can make a mean vodka martini, too! There's good Irish bar food, her crabcakes are my favorite.

We feel welcomed. Friendly (used to be wonderful session) and flexible - changes and new seevice in this crazy year. And now we can get the delicious scones shipped to us!

Mary O is an East Village legend. She runs a bar and a bake shop. During Covid, Mary sold scones from her bar to stay open, often sleeping in the bar. Bake shop features Irish scones. They are delicious. Tip: the bake shop is not open everyday and it closes when the scones run out. Be there by 11:00 AM to guarantee fresh baked, oven hot scones with butter and jam.

Great drinks and great bartender who knows how to make an awesome drink. We had just stumbled. Across this great bar

Seen advertised Trad music night every Thursday from 8-10. We are a Scottish/Irish couple and our hotel was a few blocks away, so thought we'd check it out. Music was fab but omg....the scones!!!! I wish I knew the recipe! They were literally the best scones I've ever tasted!

I've been coming to Mary O's almost every Thursday night (with a few extended breaks during the pandemic) for 8 years - and recommend anyone local or visiting do the same! Mary is true New York institution (which you can read more about on Humans of New York) with great food and drink and a welcoming safe community. And, every Thursday you can listen to (or join in!) an Irish music session from 8-10 (or later). Come for the scones or shepherds pie or Guinness - stay for the people.

This is a fantastic little Irish pub. Mary the proprietor is a fantastic host and one of the warmest human beings I’ve ever met. The food is authentic, fantastic and will exceed your expectations in every way! This is a cool place you can’t miss and will remember forever! Hint…. google “ Mary Os” for the extraordinary story of her successful survival and humanity during the pandemic!

When we were in NYC last year, we found this quant neighborhood Irish bar and really liked it. Mary O, the owner was very down to earth and put up with my brother's teasing. All in good fun but he can be annoying at times. The patrons were mostly regulars and all of them loved Mary. She told us about how her day was going and the funny things that happened at home with her kids. We felt like we were her friends. Didn't try the food there but I am sure that it is great. She lets people come in on Thurs nights (I think?) to play music in the back of the bar. It was really nice. I can't wait to go back the next time I am there.

This place is a hidden gem- A 10-12 person bar greats you across from the main door, with plenty of tables with seating to the rear of the restaurant. We stopped in to celebrate my friend's birthday and it was a perfect spot. Good music playing in the background (read- not blaring, but adding to the atmosphere) and pleasant service. We sampled some drinks (of course...) and I enjoyed a lemon cider on tap- very yummy. On to dinner - not one of us was disappointed. A couple of us devoured the chicken curry and chips- SOOOOOOO good (haven't had food like this since I'd traveled to Ireland) and the rest ordered the Shepard's pie (which they practically inhaled). Everything was piping hot, seasoned well and healthy, but not overwhelming portions. (If i had ordered an app, I would have taken some curry home...). To cap off the night, the owner found out we were celebrating a birthday and we got to enjoy some bourbon/lemon jello shots. Love this place and cannot wait to take other friends back here!

Great place...easy to get to, good food, good service, wonderful owner and nice atmosphere. There was a group of about 12 musicians playing the violin and mandolin. I don't if they are there regularly but the music so nice and not too loud where we couldn't hear each other speaking.

Very friendly pub with a perfect pint of Guinness and great food (had the fish & chips). Owner was very nice to charge my phone, but I didn’t miss it, as I was busy chatting with some of Mary O’s regulars. Will be back!

Kicking off the long weekend just right with Mary O'halloran at Mary O's! Thanks to NY1’s Roger Clark for alerting us to her scones! 😋❤️ We had an amazing traditional Irish breakfast, complete with tea and then a Guinness (or two), and then took home trays of shepherds pie and chicken pot pie to have for dinner. And more scones, of course! If you are looking for the best homemade Irish fare, look no further. Call Mary and she’ll make sure to take care of you, with personal and charming service. You will not be disappointed! I promise! 😋😋❤️❤️🍺

We entered Mary O's on a cool NYC evening and we were greeted by the warmest smile in the city. Mary is a charming as is her establishment. We enjoyed hot toddys and conversation on our visit. Can't wait to return!

What an amazing place. I even spotted a celebrity sitting in the corner. Great food, fantastic service. Great for private parties

We found Mary O's just after landing on a Sunday afternoon, we were all starving and were told that the kitchen didn't open til 4pm, we left to find somewhere else but all packed so went back to Mary O's and we said we would wait until 4, Mary done no more than to go into the kitchen & make us a load of snacks until the chef came into work!!!! Needless to say we stayed for a few jars & some good food with a great host 🍀🍀🍀

Chic, modern yet classic feel .... I was starving and u can't beat home cut fries like these to hit the spot

Great Irish pub in East Village. Food is in credible! Crab cakes and salmon were comparable in presentation and taste to more expensive restaurants.... But at half the price. Run by Irish family. Great drinks.

Mary O's hosted our family gathering for our nephew's wedding recently.....Mary O's did not disappoint! The genuine warmth from owner Mary O'halloran and her staff were apparent from the first "hello". We are so grateful to have discovered this gem in NYC. Food was amazing ....from Mary's Shepherd Pie to the Irish Soda Bread Scones to the Blackberry Cobber...all homemade and made for an unbelievable evening for this extended Irish family from Baltimore. Thank Mary O's....we will come back for more of your hospitality and your Irish Soda Bread Scones!!

On July 25,2015 we had a bridal shower there starting at 1pm for about 45 people. We has the Shepherds Pie, Quiches, Chicken Caesar Salad and veggie pasta for our buffet with breads and a menu of drinks. The staff were magnificent, friendly, professional and fun. Everyone did a great job and our bridal shower was perfect. The prices were incredibly fair for the amount of food and drinks. We were very, very happy. Mary O's is a fine establishment !
Lovely and Friendly
Loved this place so much we went on a few occassions - the food and service was great.......the staff were very friendly. They even gave me home a bottle of their own recipe hot sauce....... Would definitely reccomend it. x
