Typical Irish pub food

By Damon |

We went to McCarthy's for a weekday lunch in the middle of touring New York City. My wife is part Irish and wanted to have an Irish pub experience. We were seated quickly because we arrived after the lunch hour rush. I ordered the fish and chips while my wife ordered the beef stew which she loved. I thought the fish and chips was average. The fish was tasty but not as crunchy with the breading nor were the fries crisp on the outside and soft on the inside which is the way I like them. Service was good and the prices are typical for New York City which is to say on the moderate too expensive side. We might come back to McCarthy's in a future visit, but we will also be looking at other options.

Great brekkie at a fair price

By Darren B |

The best brekkie in town! Full Irish. Omelettes, Eggs . You name it first a full on breakfast, to get you ready for the day ahead, this place is perfect!

Nice pub!

By carolb44 |

We were looking for a place to have breakfast when we came upon the pub. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and it felt very quaint. Our waiter was from Ireland , and he was very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious and served hot. I would definitely return and highly recommend McCarthy’s pub.

Surprisingly not super touristy

By Louis F |

We did not want to eat as close to Times Square but due to time and hunger we decided to just go here. It was surprisingly not as touristy as we thought it would be and food was not half bad either.

Good and quaint

By crilu82 |

A quaint British-style pub in Time Square. Eaten well, it's worth it. We had guacamole chips, hamburger and potato chip sandwich, and sausage with mashed potatoes.

Poor

By MARIA M |

The customer service was not great. I was sitting their wings for drink quite a while. The food was very bland. The server did not explain what was on the menu.. she did not seem very happy at work as well as the other worker

McCarthys Bar

By Johnnie Daly |

Really enjoyed our visit. The food was top class, staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was so good we stayed all night even though we had only planned on staying for a short while. We’ll definitely be back… probably tomorrow 😂👍

Tourist Trap Irish Tinker Warning

By Guenevere D |

WARNING: Looks Christmassy and Instagrammable but don't be fooled: PUT NO MONEY ON THE FAUX MARBLE BAR. Went to the restroom and Irish twin thieves behind the bar snatched up $60 and wouldn't return it “as it was a tip”. Not to be trusted. Times Square Irish Tinker Alert!!!

Horrible place

By Inga O |

Horrible place. Increased prices not reflected on their menus. Website also lists the old menu prices. SVC charge or EPC charge put on credit card. No signs or anyone that tells you in advance. Ordered a rare burger, it came well done so I did not eat it. Will not go there again.

Cosy bar and great food!!

By Laura B |

We initially called in for drinks but seen the food passing us which looked good. The food is far better than standard 'pub grub'. I got the bangers and mash which were lovely and my partner had a pasta special which was pesto based. The meals were a good size, good quality and good valve for money. The bar feels cosy even though it has 2 stories. I would definitely recommend calling in! Plus, in this irish bar, the staff are actually Irish 🤣

5 stars!!

By Abie S |

i love this bar!! stopped in after work & sat at the bar. one of the best burgers in nyc & the beer is ice cold. they have another bar upstairs with an open juliet balcony- it was lovely. 10/10!!

Terrible customer service - avoid

By Shorty |

Avoid this place - disgusting customer service. We’re visiting NY from the Uk, we found them on TikTok, messaged and they seemed really friendly. We walked 20 mins this morning for breakfast, signs outside saying ‘serving breakfast from 8am daily’. Turn up and the doors were locked, waitress let herself in and completely ignored us. Door was finally opened and we stood inside for a good 10 mins. Waitress then came out and stared at me as if I had a 50inch Tv on my forehead. She then said - ‘we’re closed until 9am, we don’t have a chef!’ I questioned why it was advertised as ‘breakfast from 8am daily’ and she just replied - ‘no chef until 9am!’. Very rude waitress who couldn’t really give an explanation and ultimately couldn’t be bothered for us. Won’t be returning

Best bar for service and atmosphere a

By David Ashley J |

Popped here in December then decided to return back to New York in Feb and here was my local each evening. What a great Irish bar, firstly walking into the bar I was greeted with a friendly and welcoming staff member. Each night was awesome, the food there is out of this world! I had most things on the menu and it was so good, all of it! Massive compliments to the chef. atmosphere was amazing each time - very friendly and welcoming. Staff were very friendly and service was 10/10. Dean was was my server mostly through the week at the bar area and what a great bloke! Always chatty and happy to have me there and chatted to me when he could knowing I was there alone, can’t fault the amazing service, thank you Dean you made my evenings/nights awesome and unforgettable! I’ll be back again in Dec and I’ll be 100% returning to the bar for more messy nights so get the Stella’s ready! If you’re in Times Square and want a drink or some lunch or dinner and stuck for where to go, honestly come here, you will not be disappointed!

Irish Pub Times Square

By Thomas V |

We tried this pub since we were in the area and needed to have a quick dinner before catching a train home . We were seated quickly and ordered our drinks which were a beer and glass of wine . Beer could have been colder and the wine was okay . One of my pet peeves at restaurants is that you ask for water , and they never bring it , unless you are sitting at the bar . We asked the waitress twice ,then the gentleman who brought our dinner brought us water instantly when we asked . My wife liked the salmon ; for me this is the second time within a month that I ordered the Irish beef stew , and darned if it didn’t happen again . I got a plate with four bites of beef surrounded by modest amounts of mashed potatoes , carrots and parsnips . My friend at work says you never leave hungry from an Irish pub , but I have twice in a month . It was delicious , but I wish there was more . We don’t order appetizers because everything is fried . Also I ordered a second glass of wine and got sticker shock when the bill came and they were thirteen dollars per glass . Overall , good food , small portions , nice bar

Typical Irish pub, great food

By Alessandra |

We ate at this pub on two consecutive evenings. The first evening we had onion rings and fish and chips and the second evening hamburgers with potatoes. The portions are very generous. The food is very good, the staff is friendly. The place is the typical Irish pub with really nice music. Beer costs a lot, like everywhere in NY. I advise!

A fab atmosphere.

By Kathryn R |

A great place to stop off & enjoy the atmosphere. Staff are so friendly & love a chat. Good food & nice selection of beers/lagers. We made this our regular for the week we stayed in New York!

Best pub in Times Square.

By MTK90 |

Amazing pub, staff and food. We visited every day of our 5 day trip. Staff couldn't have been better. Atmosphere was fantastic it just had a great feel about it. We thought about trying other places but don't think anything could too this place. If we get back to New York you will be our first stop. Keep up the great work.

Very well.

By iRoby61 |

Cheerful but not chaotic place characterized by a long counter with classic stools and, in parallel, tables to sit. The menu is full of traditional and original proposals that go beyond what you expect from a pub. What comes to your table is then delicious and well presented. The staff is friendly, professional and attentive to detail. The offer of beers and whiskey is remarkable. The bill is fair in the end, especially when you consider being a few meters from Time Square in Manhattan. Recommendation and will return soon. Roby

Absolutely lovely

By Dave H |

We decided to go to this pub, as we didn't want to go to tourist hit restaurant/pub. The food was so delicious the staff were very friendly.

There must better place to go !

It Doesn’t Get Better Than This

By ChaPR. |

I felt like I was transported straight to a familiar and favorite pub in Dublin. Met the owner and he’s a particularly nice guy - checks in on everyone. People have been talking and I even heard that a couple of Rockefellers have already been a few times.

Just the right mixture of efficiency and Welcome

By Helena P |

I say efficiency as we were going to a Show and met at McCarthy's beforehand ... 3 friends who hadn't seen each other for a year. We needed a meal, and quick; and were really pleased with our food choice and service. We intend to go back for a longer time to enjoy what is a really nice atmosphere with friendly staff and rather sleek layout.

Great late lunch

By 1977november |

My daughter and I visited NYC for her 18th birthday. After an early morning visiting the Statue of Liberty, we headed towards Time Square. Time got away from us and we realized we hadn't eaten lunch. We popped into McCarthys Pub because the menu looked great and the atmosphere was inviting. We were not disappointed! Our host and server Sean was so friendly & efficient. And the food!! We got only appetizers, but let me tell you, they know how to keep flavor a staple.

Nice atmosphere and good food

By John W |

This restaurant/pub has a nice atmosphere and the food selection is reasonable and at a reasonable price. I enjoyed a stuffed pork entree and my wife enjoyed a filet mignon salad. We weren't rushed, even though it was busy, and the staff was helpful and friendly.

Great Pub! Good food!

By Travel with Kels |

This was a very good, last minute stop after a show. Food was great, drinks were lovely, and they got us in quick with no wait! We were not expecting the food to be as good as it was. I got the Irish stew and it was just what I needed to warm me up!

Good pub with a good atmosphere and service

By David N |

The moment we walked into this pub we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The service was initially hard New York style but by the time we left we found them to be friendly and helpful. The beer was cold and delicious and the food was delicious

Awesome place to get a good guiness

By Leanne |

The food was great but the atmosphere was better. Live music at night. Awesome staff . Thanks for a great couple of nights on NY

Had better

By Trish M |

Staff wasn’t too friendly. Didn’t check on us , had to flag them down and ask for drinks when ours were empty. Disappointed.

Great pub

By Coo |

Wanted a late afternoon snack after walking in the city and found McCarthys pub. We had a lovely Irish waitress who was very efficient and friendly. The guys really enjoyed their Jameson stout whisky. The guacamole and chips were delish and the spinach artichoke dip was gobbled up as was the caprese salad. A good stop if you are in the area.

Be careful going in this place. They employ a thief and the manager didn’t seem to mind

By Brad |

Popped in this pub for a few drinks. Paid the bill, the waiter took the card to the machine, never gave it back. We looked everywhere and it was gone. The waiter insisted he gave it back but didn’t then he disappeared out the back and refused to come back out They took the money for the drinks off the card before it mysteriously disappeared though We’re definitely going to the police to report this.

Irish Pub In Times Square (Mccarthys)

By JOHN E |

This a great Irish pub in the heart of the theatre district. The food was awesome, Shepards pie and beef stew. The service was friendly and efficient. Many choices of beer ontap including Guiness! Give them a try. Music every evening after 10pm.

Great Pub close to Time Square

By Brandos |

While our 5 days trip one of the favorite places close to Hotel and Time Square ! Very friendly employees. Doesn't matter whether for breakfast, lunch or in the evening. Always a great place. While EURO's having breakfast and watching the Switzerland Game (09.am) or having a beer for the 3pm game another day, always a pleasure with a lot of fun. Thank you.

Great atmosphere, fantastic food!

By Kart44 |

Simply the best!! We spent 3 of our 4 nights in NY here, great food, great atmosphere, lovely people, and obviously great drink. Live music at 10pm bonus and kitchen open until 2am, unbelievable, wish we had time to try breakfast and lunch 🤣 but needed to fit in some sightseeing!!!

Delicious Food and lots of Merriment

By juliejt |

We discovered this delightful Irish pub on the second night of our visit to New York and continued to frequent the delightful venue for dinner during the remainder of our stay (seven nights). They served the most delicious French Onion Soup, my husband's favourite! He declared it the best French Onion Soup he had tasted, including that in Paris! The menu offers a wide range of tasty dishes, and the cocktails are excellent. Prices are reasonable and on a par with similar establishments. The pub was generally packed, with much laughter enhancing the atmosphere. The pub has two levels: downstairs and upstairs. We sat on both levels but, as an older couple, preferred the top one, which was quieter. The music was enjoyable, with a range of Irish songs and pop music. The servers were young Irish travellers who were courteous and efficient. Highly recommended for an entertaining - and tasty - night out.

10/10 pub

Right next to Times Square, what a great welcome from Eoin and staff. Didn't stick out like a sore thumb even though unaccompanied. The drinks were cold and the food hot, nice atmosphere. Can recommend.

Cool pub.

By Valeria Alvarenga |

We found the place by chance, leaving a show on Broadway. Nice place with excellent live music. We opted for a beef rib which was very tasty. We appreciate Ana's service, who helped us with the menu, photos and Uber call to leave. When language is an obstacle, empathetic help is very welcome.

Dinner in a Pub

By Werner W |

We visited New York during Christmas time. On the day of arrival it was planned to have dinner in a Indian Restaurant. Unfortunately our flight was late for more than three hours so we missed the arrangement. We decided to eat something in the restaurant next to the hotel we were in. The place was very busy during dinners time but we were lucky. I ordered a typical burger house style and my wife ordered a salad. Both was ok but not great. The service was friendly and mostly efficient.

Holiday visit.

By Terence B |

An absolutely lovely bar/pub in NYC. Magnificent friendly staff, lovely food, try their breakfast!, very centrally located.

Good food

By stephens473 |

Great atmosphere and beautifully decorated for the holidays. The food was amazing , real comfort food on a very cold New York evening. We had French onion soup which was amazing , bangers and mash and pie and mash , delicious and quite large portions. The only downside was we ordered 3 drinks , one arrived very quickly and the other two arrived 20 minutes later after prompting the server who was too busy chatting up female clients.Eventually he said sorry I forgot !!! Such a shame as it spoilt the evening.

Get Some Irish in Your Blood.

By Jeff K |

Beautifully decorated for Christmas, the minute you walk in you feel a bit of Irish in your blood. Great beer, broad cocktail list, but importantly great Irish food. Get the Stew, and also the Shepard’s Pie - but I bet you cannot go wrong whatever you get.

Super friendly Irish pub

By Seegal10 |

Popped in here for a drink and it was so friendly with an excellent variety of drinks. Came back to try their food menu for breakfast and it was delicious. Well portioned and freshly made …. Perfect to start the day

Christmasy decor

By ItchyFeet |

We went to New York City for Christmas and went to a different place that had good Christmas decorations each day. This is a nice pub and we had the Irish fish and chips and they were very good. The Christmas lighting and decorations wa fun too which is why we went to NYC for Christmas. Definitely would recommend for people visiting and it’s not far off the tourist path.

Mixed

Nice place, good music BUT one of the waiters is not really in his place... I ordered sweet potato fries, mistake: normal fries. I reported it, and the fries never arrived. When I asked the waiter (Steven I think...), he told me that he hadn't asked again to make the right order... In short, he was openly making fun of me. So nice place but mediocre service from a young guy who doesn't really like his job.... 10 years in the restaurant business, I have never allowed this kind of behavior to a customer... the 3 stars come only because of having met some great people that evening. Other bars nearby are much better ;)

Best Irish Pub in NYC

We stopped by McCarthy's bar in Time Square for lunch today... the place is just fantastic!! McCarthys Irish Bar , Times Square

By jasmarmary |

A beautiful newly opened Irish bar in the centre of the theatre district, only steps from Times Square. Fabulous food and drinks, the servers being super efficient. The owner, Eoin, a Clare man, was a mine of information and advice on how to make the most of our visit to New York. We will be back. We would highly recommend this friendly pub
