Food came quick and tasted great. Good for families with younger kids in the Times Square area to get cheap eats that'll satisfy grill cheese appetites. Really enjoyed the chicken club!

Enough said above. Always wanted to try a place like this out and glad we did! What more does a man want than a grilled cheese

After quite the experience trying to get to our hotel during the Pride Parade 2015, we were very hungry and happened upon this place close to our hotel for a late lunch. Every sandwich our party ordered was great - the staff was friendly and the meal was affordable for a quick late lunch. Super clean and the Wisco sandwich was great and the tater tots were gone in a NYC minute :) Would definitely stop again if in NYC for another quick lunch bite. Great for families as the kids loved the grilled cheese choices!

This is a good place to go for comfort food. They have several different types of grilled cheese. My favorite is the classic with tomato, onions, and bacon. The tater tots are good. I liked the lemonade better when it was fountain not bottle.

Was getting ready to go get some NY Pizza and the ladies at the Ingots store recommended this place. Their recommendation was "any sandwich, tater tots and the Nutella shake". All 4 of us got different sandwiches and they were good, but in a city full of great bread the bread could've been better. Otherwise the sandwiches were really good. But the toys and shakes were excellent. If in need for an afternoon snack this would be a great place.

Was looking for a quick bite to eat while wandering around the Big Apple and was surprised by a good place that served grilled cheese sandwiches. The servings were proportionate and had good flavor. They were generous with the cheese and we had the Philly Cheese Steak as well as the best selling Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a side of their ultra delicious tots (must try!). This establishment has a few spots in NYC and would definitely recommend to give it a try.

If this is what you’re in the mood for, then this should be your stop. Yummy, gourmet-like, grilled cheese sandwiches (ya they have salads, and chicken tenders, etc) but I highly recommend the Nutella shake and any of the grilled cheese sandwiches (forget about counting calories. Walk them off later!) so yummy...

Ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and loaded tots. The tots were awesome, but the sandwich was just ok. The chicken was good, but the crust on the bread was so hard, I couldn't even bite into it.

Restaurant good and cheap for midtown. Food very fresh, fast service and Tater Tots. Staff very friendly but just wish more seats

I was visiting family in NYC and we were looking for a bite to eat for dinner before going to a museum. We stumbled across this place. The menu was interesting, so we ordered up. I had the hamburger melt, which was delicious. Instead of fries, they have tater tots, so we got the ones with cheese. Yummy. My daughter had a chicken salad, which was also very good. I would definitely eat here again.

Counter service. Sometimes there are lots of customers and you might find it difficult to score a seat at one of the tables; people share seating at picnic tables. There are many interations of grilled cheese along with the standard classic. Patty melt was great. Red cabbage slaw is a nice counterpoint to the richness of the grilled cheese sandwiches. Loaded tater tots are nowhere near the frozen things that most of us know. These tater tots are moist and not greasy. The loaded tots have cheese and jalapeño slices -- more than enough to share with your group. The grilled cheese with truffle oil was too salty. The restaurant is very clean.

As someone with a gluten allergy, I don't usually get the opportunity to eat this kind of comfort food. What a treat! Don't worry, regular bread is obviously available as well. I had the 3-cheese melt. Heavenly.

I went back to this place twice and had the grilled chicken sandwich ...it was that good. I am still salivating ...great value as well. Service was just ok.

Myself and my wife were on a bit of a foodie honeymoon and we definitely needed to check out this little hipster dot of heaven nestled on 26th street. The highlight was absolutely the milkshake - we both had strawberry and they surpassed even the mightiest MacDonalds efforts. I had Turkey pesto with grilled cheese and tomatoes, whilst she went for the grilled cheese and truffle. We both also had the tomato soup and shared cheesy tots and it was INCREDIBLE, so good we went back again! Be prepared to wade through the hipster scene though, the first time it was utterly packed (admittedly it was around lunchtime) and you would need a chainsaw to see through the carefully combed beards, even the second round whilst less rammed there was still no seating available.

Stopped in after arriving from Chicago on the way to the MoMA. I'd checked it out before going and it looked like a good lunch spot. We were not disappointed. We split a sandwich and salad; there's a wide variety to choose from. The sandwich was excellent, a melted cheese concoction that hit the spot. Highly recommended.

Terrific patty melt and tots before seeing a show at the Roundabout. Great, clean location and very yummy food.

Just an ok experience. Got the original grilled cheese and cheesy tots. The break was a little too crunchy for my liking, but the cheese had good flavor. The house tots were much better than the cheesy tots, because the tots got soggy.

As if 6 hours on a bus wasn't enough, it was also pouring once we got to NY so my friend and I wanted something fast but comforting to eat. Yelp pointed me to Melt Shop and it did not disappoint. Quite the opposite. This would be a perfect alternative to my Panera lunches. Inside it was very spacious for a NY sandwich spot and the yellow/ white walls/ furniture with the slightly dimmed lights made us feel very warm and cozy despite the mainly industrial look. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The menu has a good variety of sandwiches and salads, as well as different types of tater tots. I ended up getting the Grilled Chicken sandwich with regular tots. The chicken was grilled perfectly, it was soft and juicy and the roasted tomatoes on the sandwich gave it just the right kick! The tater tots were pretty good, but nothing special. Overall a great place to grab a quick and tasty bite to eat!

Average food. Loud inside. Grilled chicken on the chicken sand which only covered half of the roll. Cannot ask for burger doneness all Burgers all cooked well done. Shakes come from what looks like soft serve machine and mix in to make flavors. Burger was good but not spectacular. Order kiosk gives option of 15 22 or 25% tip. This is fast food you order on kiosk and get your own food straw and napkins. No option for other amount. They cook and call your name.

The grilled cheese with maple bacon had 2 types of cheese and hit the spot for me. The tater tots were the perfect side item. My son gives you the hand-crafted milkshake 2 thumbs up. In comparison to other NYC dining experiences, this one was easiest on my wallet.

I brought my daughter here for a quick dinner in December. We froze since the double doors don’t do enough to block out the wind! Many chairs are broken so I’d advise you to carry out your food. Actually food (ex, gluten-free grilled cheese, tomato soup) is good.

Stopped by for a quick lunch. My wife and I both ordered the Wisco and shared an order of cheesy tots. It was a good sandwich and the tots were good as well. This is a good stop for a quick lunch that isn't terribly expensive.

We were here for a quick, lite dinner. We were welcomed by friendly staff and a clean establishment. The menu was simple and easy to navigate and there was plenty of room to sit and relax. The decor had a nice vibe. We ordered the burger melt, side tomato soup, side salad, "the tots" and the Mexican chocolate shake. The burger melt was awesome, great flavour with a nice golden brown crust. They had a few slices of pickle in it, which gave it great flavour. The Mexican chocolate shake had a little hint of cinnamon which was a nice touch, the soup was ok and the tot's were the commercial ones you can get at Taco Bell. The salad was fresh and the dressing was quite tasty actually. They have all the melts available on gluten free bread if requested. Thanks for that! We would go back, it was very friendly and we felt very welcomed.

I was in the area and looking for a fast lunch. Melt had gotten strong reviews, so I gave it a try. I'm happy with my choice, though I think 4 stars is a little strong (my 3 stars probably a little low -- I give a 3.5 stars). I had a grilled cheese and tater tots. Both were good. But they are also pretty standard for what you can do in your house. There was nothing special about them. It was average, worth eating at, but not a destination. It was good fast-food (which makes it better than most of the options).

This place does a range of grilled cheese sandwiches. The best bit is hey have gluten free bread, most of the fillings can be done on gluten free bread bar one or two. There is still however a great choice The sandwiches are covered on trays whilst grilled so are free from cross contamination. They taste great and the place is a nice central location. There are few seats so you can eat in Best advice is if you want lunch go just before 12. After that it's peak time for surrounding businesses and there can be a big que. What more do you need it's grilled cheese and it can be done gluten free

Chronic gluten freeness at this spot, be sure to check if out if your in the area, and especially if your staying at the Sheraton Hotel Times Square. Hit Gluten Free on Yelp and this place popped up during the blizzard and I hopped right in and got so many things. The cheese tots were my favorite, but the melt in your mouth meltshop sandwiches + being gluten free are nothing but amazing goodness in your mouth. This place is gluten free approved and you guys need to come to Texas and open up a few please, thank you.

Needed quick lunch while on business calls in the city. I beat the rush at 11:50am. After 12pm there was a line and wait for tables to open. The sandwich was tasty and so were the "tots". Great selection of grilled cheese sandwiches. Next time I will try the buffalo chicken grilled cheese!

Food looks great but we only came for dessert. Shakes. Picture is of a Black and White. Nutella is also a favorite. Shakes are hand spun. Even in winter...milkshakes. Yes.

This looks like your run of the mill fast food restaurant but then you bite into the tastiest grilled cheese just like your mom used to make. The seating is anything but comfortable but the sandwich is worth it. We went here after a Broadway show and it was not crowded at all.

Delicious and simple cheese grill done really well. Had the classic cheese and it was spot on. Worth a visit.

I love the atmosphere of the place. The yellow, black, and white coloration paired with the subway tile and art makes this place a trendy, unique stop to eat in Midtown. Picnic tables in house for dining or you can take your cheesy sandwich and tots to go. My friend and I stopped by for a mid-afternoon tater tot snack. We were glad we did! The price was reasonable and the tater tots were hot, fresh, and generously covered in garlic-parmesan goodness.

We found this place due to Yelp reviews. We were excited to see the choices when we walked in. The food is simple but comforting. We had the fried chicken grilled cheese, the buffalo blue grilled cheese and the truffle grilled cheese. All were very tasty. We had sides of the cheesy toys and the Parmesan tots. Both tasted great. The employees were also super polite and friendly. This place hit the spot after a lot of walking on a cool April day.

A good spot to enjoy a delicious Honey Mac and Cheese along with some loaded fries. The service is quick, and the staff is very friendly!

We had a big lunch one day and just fancied a snack instead of dinner so we were delighted to stumble upon this place. We just had the classic and while it didn't look huge we both had problems finishing it but we managed to as it was so good.

The ambiance is good. Well created space to relax and enjoy a quick bite. The vegan sandwich didn't go down 😐. The cheezy tots was good .

My friends and I headed here for a quick lunch break during our shopping day in Time Square. There were only a few sandwich options, most grilled cheese variations. I kind of just wanted a regular grilled cheese but ended up with the 3 Cheese Sandwich and a side of Cheesy Tots. The sourdough bread was delicious, but I wasn't a big fan of the cheese and tomato combination, though that is probably largely due to me being a picky eater. The cheesy tots were absolutely delicious, though. This is a very nice place for food if you don't want to do the whole fancy restaurant thing but don't want to go to a trashy place.

Good for lunch, quick service. But the food is very heavy on the stomach. It's a one time pass for me.

They offer a variety of toasted sandwiches which are tasty although as others have said perhaps not too healthy! Having said that ours were great and with options of gluten free bread although they are not guaranteed as Coeliac friendly. Great tater tots to go with your sandwich.

Filled the spot for that late night snack. Had the classic with tomato, onion and bacon. Although, wondered why you don't have a tuna melt?

Granted, we were starving when we went but we loved it. Already planning another trip to the city and we are making sure that we stop here while visiting. Great food, friendly staff and cute atmosphere. Yum!

We stopped here to eat after seeing a show on Broadway. They have the BEST grilled cheese ever. we had a classic grilled cheese with American and cheddar cheeses for $5.50, a Truffle Melt with Muenster, Arugula, Black Pepper & Truffle Oil for $7.50. These are SOOOOO delicious! The bread is nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The cheese is perfectly smooth and creamy. We also had tots with truffle oil and Parmesan cheese for just $3,40!!! Just Wow!!. They also have super delicious milk shakes for $5,29. We had a chocolate and a Nutella. These are a nice size and very delicious. Even though the prices are cheap, the ingredients are high quality. This is located just one block east of Broadway on 50th St and 3 short blocks north of Times Square. So if you are going to see a show or just enjoying the sites of Times Square, this is the perfect place to eat. The food is delicious and the prices are low. hey also offer chicken tenders and salads. By subway, take the red line 1 train to the 50th St Broadway stop. You order at the counter, pay, and then pick up your food at the counter. There are plenty of tables and seats. Staff is fast and friendly. If you are visiting the US from another country, you have to try a grilled cheese, tater tots and a milk shake. These are traditional American foods. T

Loved this little spot for lunch! Good location, close to theater's. Nice variety on the menu. You can find something healthy here, or not!

I wish we had seen this place earlier. The food was really good and they did gluten free bread. You can have the tater tots aswell if your gluten free. Was a really nice change to burgers and pizza. Would definitely visit again.

We happened on this little shop just walking by and stopped in for lunch. We ordered the burger melt and were amazed at how good it was. Even the bread was excellent, and I usually throw that away. If yo order that, get a fork. It's messy, and you won't want to waste any of the cheeses. Plus, they had Diet Dr. Pepper, which is rare in the North and a life necessity for some Southerners.

The location is actually 877 8th Avenue. I have actually been to this location twice in the past month as this location is near my job. The first time I ordered the Classic - American cheese on white bread, added grilled chicken and ordered a side of Parmesan tots. The food was delicious. The tots were the best part. The worst part was the price. Adding the grilled chicken and getting the tots, I ended up spending 12-13 dollars for lunch. My second visit, I ordered the Maple Bacon, with a side of Parmesan tots. Again, the food was delicious, with the tots being the best part. Slightly cheaper at 10.50 for lunch. Overall, the food is great, the service is good, but even for the city, the prices are a little on the high side. If cheaper, I would definitely eat here more often.

There is no such thing as a bad grilled cheese. Melt, however, takes the grilled cheese sandwich, and the lowly tater tot, and elevates them to a new level. I had a fancy grilled cheese sandwich with arugla and roasted red something (can't remember if it was peppers or tomatoes but they were delicious). Amazing. The tater tots had parmesan cheese on them (I wasn't brave enough to smother my tots with other cheeses and toppings). For a quick, reasonable meal that is satisfying and makes you happy, visit Melt. I know there are great restaurants in NYC. Sometimes you just need a great grilled cheese sandwich and Melt delivers.

We visited the Melt Shop for lunch upon arriving in NY for a family trip. They were super friendly and accommodating of our group of 7 (mom in wheelchair). The food was awesome, definitely comforting, and it hit the spot after a long travel morning. The restaurant was very clean, and our food came out fast. And they serve beer! Highly recommend.

My daughter and I went there before a Monday night show. Quick comfort food. I had the three cheese grilled cheese and it was excellent. Not a place to count calories. We got to sit by the window and it was perfect for people watching while I sipped on my beer and talked with my daughter until it was time to head out for the show.. This was a little relief from the expensive dinners we enjoyed elsewhere.

Obviously, where the locals eat, which is always good. Burgers cooked fresh. Nothing special for fast food take out. Prices reflect NY. But food was great

This is one of those restaurants we stumbled into. We were waiting for our show at Radio City and needed a quick bite. We started walking, saw this place and walked in and I am sure glad we did. I ordered the 3-cheese and my wife ordered the maple bacon. Both were excellent. However, the star of the show was the Nutella Fluff shake. This is a shake worthy of two of the best sweet ingredients. It was just the right thickness, just the right sweetness and just the right size. I am getting hungry for that meal as I am writing this. So tasty!

Delicious burgers and tasty food! Not fine dining but tasty for a quick bite. Very casual. Gave 4 instead of 5 as the bathroom is absolutely manky. Only one to share it was was awful. But food was lovely!!

We really enjoyed our meals here. Hearty, toasted sandwiches with some of the best Gluten-Free bread I have ever tasted. Staff have great awareness, including of the dedicated fryer for the tots. Milkshakes to boot!

I had an hour to kill before seeing a play nearby and just happened to be walking by and was attracted by the clean decor and liked the menu. Tried the fried chicken melt...really quite yummy and the chicken was tender on the inside...crispy on the outside...just didn't get a lot of cheese taste in it...but all in all very good. Also tried the shop tots which were crisp, tasty and not even a little greasy...cudos. Had a filling meal, checked my emails, relaxed and enjoyed a very good meal...at a very reasonable price. Definitely will go again next time I'm in town.

Solid food, nice veg & vegan options, not on the pricey side. Good place, would visit again. I had a vegan sandwich and my folks some sort of smashed burger and tater tots with a shake. Service was real fast and we didn't have to wait long for our food to be done (it wasn't crazy busy though)

Great staff. Girl with the nose ring (didn't get her name) had a great conversation with me about the merits of their Nutella shakes. It's all about cheese here, and the soda machine was awesome

My wife and I stopped and ate here before going to Radio City Music Hall for the Rockettes Christmas spectacular. We were short of time but found this gem right down the street from radio city. Menu is small but the grilled cheese and patty melts are were excellent. Great comfort food. Tater tots with cheese and jalapeños was a great addition to the meal. Enjoy!!!

Although all the sandwiches we've tried were awesome, and the loaded tater tots were great, too, I went back because of the chocolate milkshake, the best I've had in NYC. Thanks! :)

The best grilled head I've ever had. I got the fried chicken one and it was so juicy and tender with the cheese and sauces mixed in so eloquently for a flavour burst on your pallet. 100% check this place out for a meal or an after theatre snack!

I went here because it is one of the best places in the city!! I had a thing I needed to go to and I needed dinner after so I went here!! I got the most amazing maple bacon grilled cheese which was the greatest!! I think everything they have here is so good!! That is why you all should come here!!

This is a great place to get an excellent grilled cheese sandwich. I had the bacon and cheese and it was excellent. The sandwiches are made with high quality ingredients and they do not skimp. The atmosphere is fast food, but it is fun and crowded with locals.

We just happened to be walked past here at lunch time. We decided to grab a cheese sandwich and some tater tots. Very nice food and atmosphere.

This place is probably some place you would return to over and over. The grilled cheese sandwhiches are great - you can vary it with your choice of what's inside. they are great for lunch. The tater totes are a nice companion. Also the service is fast and you'll be licking your fingers when your done.

I was looking forward to a quick bite after seeing great reviews. Warm and friendly service from the entire team. I opted for the American grilled cheese and cheesy tots. I had my order to go. The tots were quite good, the grilled cheese OK, I think it was the cheese itself. However I would go back to try something else.

I had the maple bacon sandwich and shop tots and it was delicious! The sandwich was toasted and infused with maple syrup and had bacon and melted cheese. The tater tots were dusted with parmesan and other seasonings. With a drink, I think it cost about $11. The only negative thing was that it closed at 9 pm. I would have gone back the next night if they were open later.

Great for a quick lunch with kids before show. Truffles grilled cheese was amazing. Kids loved tots.

the food was decent, the customer service was very good, the food was served quickly even though depending on what you get it was made right then. I did not try the milkshake but we would go there again if we want decent food quickly.

Get ready for a crunchy buttery grill. The Wisco was tasty with it's cheesy bacon, and the sandwich is large. Got the tasty Parmesan tots, two fed four adult appetites. An unexpected favorite was the shakes, some of the best our shake connoisseurs have had. Try the Nutella, and again, share, it's a lot for one person. Convenient before a theater matinee.

Grilled cheese - what could be wrong with that on a cold winter day! We had two different ones with tatter tots and truffle mayo. Great idea, great concept. It is fast food but the place was clean and efficient.

Melted Cheese and Fried Chicken in hot sandwich! Need I say more? Amazing! Try to get there just before the lunchtime rush – otherwise you may have difficulty sitting down since seats are limited. Good for a quick bite to eat!

This place has a great concept, and cool atmosphere. If calories and some grease aren't your thing, then skip it. I loved the loaded tots and buffalo sandwich on sourdough. I was so full though I couldn't eat dinner, which was fine. Very good value and quick. I'll be back.

I have been here in this restaurant before 10 years ago and here iam back to it same taste delicious specially beef burger toast sandwiches highly recommend.

Great food for on the go, we jumped in when we were on the go in the city. Great food, great grilled cheese!!!

Super good ! The chicken is great I have rarely eaten such good fast food You won't be disappointed coming here Excellent really I recommend

What's not to love? A cheese melt with chicken and sundried tomatoes and a side of tater tots with parmesan. Happy times.

Great grilled cheese and buffalo parm chicken tenders. Service was very friendly. After having a bit of trouble with our order, we were offered a free drink, which we loved.

We were recommended this place by someone who used to live in NYC. We got a grilled cheese, chicken tenders, and shakes. The grilled cheese was absolute perfection, melty but crispy. The shakes were creamy and just delicious. Service was good too.

The fried chicken sandwich is out of this world- tasty and not to heavy. Good with a side of tater tots.

Being on a gluten free diet, I marked some places in Manhattan to eat while walking across the city. This place was an excellent stop when me and my wife were starving after a long journey. Gluten free sandwiches ? Oh, yeah ! It's not gourmet, obviously, but a tasty fast food always appreciated when you can not take a wheat full pizza.

...just my tastebuds talking ...they make terrific grilled cheese sandwiches here! Pretty good selection too (about a dozen different GCSs on teh menu). Slightly pricey. Service is a little slow, but understandingly so. Set-up for takeaway (and phone/eMailed orders). IF its a nice day you can sit out in the plaza of the Citibank Center ...if not there's an indoor courtyard with decent WiFi.

My friend took me to this store and it was good. lunch lines were insane but I guess the quality of the food brings that with it. Wouldn't mind coming back. I enjoyed it the chicken with tomato sandwich.

Amazing Cheese melt and tater tots. This place is worth a visit. Best grilled cheese we had in a long time. Friendly and polite staff and a top class sandwich. Tater tots are good too. Give it a go guys it hits the spot on a cold winter day

We're leaving back home soon, so needed to find place within walking distance of hotel. Found it online with good reviews. We were very happy with our choice. I had the original grilled cheese, gooey and delish with a tasty tomatoe soup on the side. My hubby had the fried chicken with cheese, and it was tasty too. The tots were perfect. We were there for lunch, but it was not busy at all, didn't have to wait long. Prices were nyc prizes,as expected. Quick sandwich spot, casual look.

These are good comfort food sandwiches, but you may need a nap after eating here. Not for the kale salad crowd, but good solid food for an occasional lunch. I personally couldn’t eat this too often, but love it when I do.

I wasn't really hungry but felt like I needed a little something so stopped in here for tomato soup. It was pretty much like soup out of a can - no crackers, croutons, spices, nada.

This place is far from healthy, but omg, the food is delicious, tasty, hot and divine. This place is an absolute must. i would come here again and again.

The shop was super busy when I came in for lunch on a Tuesday but the line moves quickly. I had the Wisco which is sharp cheddar, brick spread, bacon and tomato on white bread and an order of their shop tots (regular tater tots). Despite the busy atmosphere I got my food in record time and it was made to perfection. The bread had just the right amount of toast and it was the right amount of cheese because it didn't make a mess and get all soft on me. It was a tad on the salty side but not so much so that you can't enjoy the ooey goodness. I will be back for more!

It was a nice surprise to come across this restaurant. The burger melt with cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the Parmesan tater tots. This location has the nicest employees and delicious food.

I had a Grilled Chicken and it was straight up the best toastie I've ever had. The truffle mayo is outta this world, it was awesome. I don't even like cheese that's stronger than Swiss but thankfully they have a helpful scale to let you know how strong they all are.

Came to NYC to try out loads of food. That’s basically how we found this place - Instagram pictures!!! Make sure you try the grilled cheese, the tater tots and the milkshakes. All great See you next year

This chain has been popping up and I finally took the chance. Grilled sandwiches with tons of cheese; a savory and calorie-large delight. Short wait for food made to order, priced for midtown and a good example of American indulgence. Liked but didn't love my three cheese grilled & root beer float; overall impression is that it's a fun place to visit but won't have regulars unless they have an extemely high metabolism.

We fell into this place after our first choice didn't pan out as planned. After a quick check on yelp, we were in! It wasn't crowded, was well-priced, and the servers were nice. The sandwich was melted to perfection and the shop tots were perfectly crispy.

Decided to grab a quick bite and read the reviews which were positive. It's a clean, modern layout and the sandwiches were really good. I had the fried chicken with the combo tots. Both were delicious. The bread was crispy and the sauce they put on it was unique but good. I would come back here again.

Stopped here for the gluten free options for my Celiac friend. Best tater tots I have ever had! I didn't know tater tots could be so amazing! I basically had a grilled chicken grilled cheese - it was pretty good. The food is very heavy and I was full for hours!

I'm a New York City tour guide always on the look out for a lunch spot in midtown Manhattan. I was walking crosstown on W 50th St between 6th and 7th Avenue on Memorial Day weekend. I saw the Melt Shop on the north side of W 50th St across the street from the Barclays Building. The restaurant is open. Tall ceilings and 4" x 4" white tile evocative of a cross between a high end kitchen and a subway station. Brightly painted yellow picnic tables are full of hungry New Yorkers and tourists. I tried the Award Winner grilled cheese sandwich. It's the most expensive grilled cheese sandwich on their menu. It had bacon and cranberries which intrigued me. Maybe I was expecting more sugar in the cranberries and was disappointed by the au natural cranberry sauce. Likewise, I wanted more salt in the side order of slaw. I wasn't in a healthy mood for lunch that day. Sugar and salt I realized is what I wanted and the Melt Shop didn't deliver. Lunch was $13.00. Next door s a rundown fast food franchise that has two Nathan's hot dogs with sauerkraut, mustard, and ketchup for $6.00 and two Tim Horton's doughnuts with selections like vanilla dip with sprinkles and chocolate Bavarian creme for $2.00. Salt and sugar. That is what I was craving. So maybe I'm being a bit hard on Melt Shop because the staff was cheerful and very efficient. It depends what you are after. Both options are right next to each other.

Very much enjoyed lunch here. Split the 3 Cheese and the Truffle Grilled Cheese with my husband, and we couldn't decide which was tastier. They were perfectly grilled, and despite the lunch rush, were prepared fairly quickly. Tater tots were just OK, but maybe we were full from the sandwich. Nutella shake was all we hoped!

This is my daughter's favorite spot to grab a quick bite in New York. It's centrally located in midtown, very quick, great food and reasonably priced. Be sure to get the tots!

THe grilled cheese sandwiches here are truly gourmet, grown up food... Delicious! ANd the iced teas that are bottled for sale there are superb too. Great spot for a great lunch and get an extra tea to go!

Saw reviews about this place and decided to try it since it was close to my hotel. Glad I did. Best grilled cheese sandwich I ever ate. Service was quick too! My daughter bought a sandwich from a competitor down the block but took half of my sandwich instead after trying a bite. Will definitely eat there again!

If you have a craving for melted cheese then come here! All of your cheesy desires! And the biggest dill pickle known to man. Amen.

Delighted with the service - speed and friendliness - and my truffle melt sandwich was amazing, not least because of the phenomenal gluten free bread. Amazing to find such a gem in the centre of NY.

I ate here several years ago when the menu was mostly grilled cheese-based. They’ve now eliminated most of the grilled cheese options and added a bunch of cheesy chicken sandwich, Mac & cheese, and burger options. I had the mike’s hot honey bun and loaded tots. The sandwich was tasty, though a total sticky mess to eat. I loved loaded tots, though I would prefer the option to have jalapeños instead of cherry peppers. There were lots of good options on the menu so I’ll have to try something else next time.

A very busy day in New York did not phase the staff at this restaurant. We ordered take out (and I was a little nervous about how well grilled cheese would hold up on the walk to where we ate). Not to worry. Three cheese was delicious. Bread had been toasted perfectly and stayed crisp. The place was packed and yet the staff was friendly and super-efficient. Would love to return.

I thought that I could make a pretty good grilled cheese. But then my friends took me here for my birthday. What can I say? Amazed. Gob-smacked. Astounded. Surprised. I now can say that I've really had a "real" grilled cheese sandwich... and so should you!

Grilled cheese, tots, and tomato soup were all delicious. They were all simple, but good. The restaurant was busy and we were lucky to grab a seat. It seemed like a local spot and one for tourists too. It was expensive like everything in NYC.

We ran into this place as we were walking down the street. It wasn't crowded and the prices were reasonable. My husband had the grilled cheese and said it was amazing. I was excited they offered gluten-free bread! I got the turkey melt and it was amazing as well. Our server, London was pretty amazing too and very helpful!

Daughter was hungry and cold and not in the mood to wait in line so we looked up what was close and came here. Very happy with our melts, tater tots, soups, and drinks. Hit the spot without breaking the bank. Great comfort food!

Came here recently before watching The Book of Mormon. Who doesn't love grilled cheese sandwiches, right? I ordered the fried chicken and my sister the buffalo blue (it was way too salty). I like the crunch of the bread and the crispy chicken skin. Tried the shop tots, it came sprinkled with parmesan cheese, which I think wasn't necessary because I couldn't taste it Maybe that's the justification for charging $3 for it. For drinks, I tried the nutella shake. Not bad but a bit pricey at nearly $5. And to round it out, also ordered a tomato soup, it had a marinara aftertaste. I'm not sure that I would come back. The meal was quite pricey and ok but not for what it costs. I guess I'm not an artisanal grilled cheese fan.

My husband and I stopped in on a cool December afternoon. The resturant is spacious, and we didn't have to wait for a table. It is an order at the counter and pick up when ready type place. They have a variety of selections from basic cheddar grilled cheese, grilled chicken, burgers, salads, tater tots slaw, & chips. A nice shake for dessert. Healthy drink options, but no sodas when we were there. I loved my grilled cheese and bacon. The cheddar taste was nice & the bacon crispy as requested. My husbands chicken was awesome. They also serve soup, but we did not get any. For a quick lunch, dinner or snack to get you buy until your next meal, this is the place to go. We didn't feel stuffed, but satisfied.

Breakfast was great - two eggs with melted cheese on a Brioche bread for $3.99. Very tasty. What more can I say?

Good sandwiches, tater tots and fries. Also lots of gluten free options. Nice little place to get food not far from Central Park.

I got the patty melt and the grilled chicken for someone else. They were both very good. The sauces the add are amazing. It was packed on a Saturday Night but it's proximity to Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and Times Square made it a perfect spot to grab dinner!

The fried chicken sandwich was better than expected--nice, thick, juicy chicken breast--and this put the Melt Shop a cut above the average fast food joint but there were not enough seats. We also ordered the tater tots just to find out why people were raving about them. We still don't know why.

Perfectly melted sandwich with lots of filling. The tater tots smothered in cheese just add to it all. Great little spot for a quick bite and well priced too.

On business, coming down with a cold in a hotel sucks. Sometimes you just need comfort food to make you feel better. Grilled cheese from the Melt Shop did the trick. Didn't cure my cold, but made me feel better for having had it.

I had the grilled cheese with bacon. It was delicious. The shop tater tots are yummy and seasoned well. The Arnold Palmer was fresh and good. There was a long line at lunch so be prepared to wait.

This is a good option for a very quick bite at a decent price. The grilled cheese was pretty standard. The cheesy tots were disappointing. We were expecting melted cheese, but instead received soggy tots in a plastic-y cheese sauce - just not my style. The milkshake was good and the dining area was clean.

Don't eat here for your health, but because you are hungry and want a fancy grilled cheese (with other stuff in it) sandwich. Limited seating; many people get it to go. There is a nice public outside courtyard right across the street behind Barclays, which is a good place to eat in nice weather.

Remember the old 80's commercial with the line "Where's the beef?" With the melt shop, the level of cheesiness is significantly lacking. If you are claiming to be a melted cheese shop, the last thing you should skimp on is the CHEESE. My wife and I ordered Fried Chicken and Buffalo Blue chicken sandwiches. Each of the sandwiches came with a generous fried chicken breast, the sour dough bread was grilled nicely (maybe a little much butter). We found little or no evidence of cheese and the indicated spreads. (Or the small amount that was added undetected by our palettes). We also god the cheesy tots. Again, it looked like they sprinkled a little parasailing cheese on top. I would certainly never call it "smothered in melted cheese". We also got few shakes that were pretty good. Sorry, probably my first and last visit only worthy of 2 stars.

My husband and I shared the Wisco which consists of different cheeses + bacon and with it we ordered tater tots. They sprinkle parmesan cheese over the top of the tots it was de-LISH! They serve Coke products and offer free refills so that's a big plus. Cannot wait to go back the next time we are in NYC! Stay Cheesy!

I haven't had a sandwich at Melt Shop in years and I was craving grilled cheese. It was empty except for one diner when I arrived after 4 pm. I ordered the buffalo chicken melt and it was good, not great. This was overpriced because I could barely taste the cheese. Where was it? Where's the ooey gooeyness? The chicken was pretty food and the bread well toasted. Nothing I couldn't make myself. I won't be coming back. Staff was polite.

Stopped in for a quick bite. They do not mess around with the grilled cheese! Cheesy goodness on many levels! And the tater tots - eat those too! But make sure you have a shake - we did Nutella. Amazing! The staff and service was so-so but the food made up for it!

Great burgers - ideal for recovering from our jet lag! Great to see there was a gluten free bread option so our gluten intolerant diner didn’t miss out.

I had a Buffalo Blue Sandwich. It was spectacular. It had fried chicken with blue cheese and buffalo wing sauce. My friends had a 3 cheese sandwich (Gruyere, Havarti, and Goat with tomatoes) and a Melt Burger. I also ordered a nutella milkshake which was awesome.

We were walking around NYC looking for some "cheaper" quick eats and stopped in this place. We are glad we did. Nice choice of burgers/ grilled cheese/ tots, etc. They had a small selection of wine and beer (which was a nice bonus).

We went to the branch in W 50th Street before a Saturday matinee. Nice seating, bright and airy and not crowded. Grilled chicken sandwiches were fantastic. The bread is grainy and delicious.

I chose the classic melt (american and wisconsin cheddar on white) with the addition of fried chicken breast. The chicken was battered evenly and the meat was juicy. I really enjoyed this sandwich. I also had a side of shop tots which I thought were going to be glorified tater tots but they were so much better. The tops were fresh and covered with grated parmesan. Very very good!!

I'd like to consider myself the queen of all things cheese. Needless to say when I even saw the name of this place I was all in! My friends and I are all cheese lovers so naturally we knew this was the place for lunch. Two of my friends are vegetarians and both found options easily which was nice. My other friend got the chicken sandwich and I got the burger melt. All four of us were drooling over our meals. If you are obsessed with all things cheese like I am, this is the place for you. I promise you will not be disappointed!

I was super excited after seeing the website for this place, and it's a really cool vibe inside. I like the colors, and how fun and modern the place is. Also, the food is outstanding. I highly recommend the melts here, and the tater tots were great too! This is for sure a place I will visit again.

A grilled cheese specialty shop, this restaurant was both unique and a fun departure from common fast food. Note: Gluten allergies should skip it. Although Meltshop sells gluten free bread, the cheese is not. Only an alert manager kept me out of trouble during our visit to New York. My son thoroughly enjoyed his sandwich, which was grilled to buttery perfection. After this, hit a salad bar for dinner.

The mix of flavors between the maple, bacon and the three different cheeses was so good. I loved every bite of this meal. They have several other combinations that I'm sure are as good as the one I ordered. Would definitely go again when I visit NYC.

Had the buffalo blue, and three cheese sandwich, and an order of loaded tots. The goat cheese on the three cheese was creamy and flavorful, and the loaded tots were out of this world. Very friendly staff as well!

Heading back to hotel and we need to grab dinner when I see this place. Pop my head in to look at the menu and it looks good. We ordered a burger, steak and maple bacon sandwich, along with the tater tots. We all were very happy with our food. I had the steak sandwich that came with fried onions and a sherry vinaigrette that added a nice flavor to the grilled sandwich. Two days later we are in the neighborhood and stop to eat here again. Good food with good prices.

We ordered a couple of three cheese melts with tomato soup and a fried chicken melt. The soup was not good - tasted like canned stuff. The three cheese was not well thought out at all - they definitely need to pick a better goats cheese - it didn't melt at all. The sun dried tomatoes didn't add anything to the party either. They could do with taking a leaf out of Meltkraft's book - that place really know what they are doing. Our companion who had the fried chicken enjoyed his though, so perhaps that one is a decent sandwich. One happy customer, two disappointed ones.

The food was good but if your looking to bring the family out for a sit down you are going to have a hard time at this location. The staff was very friendly and the food was really good

The service here was decent. You order at the counter pick up food in the back. Gal at the register was nice. The food was pretty greasy. My burger bun was sopped with grease. The chicken fingers were a little overcooked. Wouldn't go again.

I went to this restaurant basically on a whim. Talk about delish. Food was hot and smelled so good. Staff was very nice and cooked everything perfect. Found a new place to eat when I am in NYC.

Everything had high quality ingredients and we were particularly impressed by the thick, barely processed chicken breast. Loaded tots are amazing and the fiery chicken salad is a huge portion. I would recommend getting a side of chicken for extra protein and splitting the salad.

Had a group of about 7 people while in the Rockefeller Center area. Wanted something for everyone, that wasn't too expensive and also fairly quick. I have heard and wanted to go to the Melt Shop (Various locations) for a while now but just never made it there. I saw that there was a location on 50th between 6th and 7th, not too far from where were. Went there on a Saturday night about 7PM and there were a few people there but there was more than enough seating there for our 7. Picnic-typebenches along one wall and typical fast-food type tables along the other wall as well as a ledge with about 3 barstools facing the storefront window. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Prices were fair for the food. Sandwiches ranged from plain grilled cheese to chicken/cheese/bacon sandwiches and ranged from $6 to about $9. Sides included tots amongst other items for $3-$5. They also had fountain drinks, a few bottled options and beer. I would average for a sandwich, drink and side, about $12-15 per person. Fountain machine is near the seating area, so you can re-fill to your hearts desire. Next to the fountain machine was a large service table with napkins, straws, mayo, mustard, sriracha and other condiments. Everything was fresh and delicious, everyone agreed. I would definitely return soon to sample more things.

If you like grilled cheese, this is the place for you. Great sandwiches on sour dough bread. Grilled chicken, hamburgers on grilled bread. Tater Tots are a good side dish. Not very expensive, very fulling. In the area of the theaters, go before the matinees. I would go back again.

Head to the Melt Shop if you're looking for a guilty pleasure meal. The menu is full of various grilled cheese (and meaty) sandwiches, tater tots, and milkshakes. My meal was warm, comforting deliciousness and hit the spot on a chilly evening.

Great atmosphere and trendy spot to have lunch, dinner or a snack. Great toasted sandwiches. I had the fried chicken with a side of a dill pickle. Everything is freshly prepared and cooked fresh. Well worth the visit 😳

We went to this place the days after Christmas and it was awesome. It was near closing time so was not as packed. Their grilled cheese with tomato soup was excellent! Hamburgers and buffalo sandwiches good too! Dont pass it up.

This location, on the north side of 50th between 6th and 7th is currently closed for renovation. It’s a good stop for a quick bite. Good grilled cheese. Looking forward to seeing the new space.

After a long walk to the NY Natural History Museum and back, this place was our refueling stop. A somewhat deserted store where we got delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and a really good milkshake too. Not all that expensive and we did mean to go back all week but never got around to it. Service was only fair and the place lacked atmosphere but it was perfectly decent for a snack

The maple bacon toastie was possibly the best thing to happen my life ever. Words can never explain it. The buffalo chicken toastie wasn't amazing but still good, and the tater tots were just fine. Go for the maple bacon and bring me back some!!

We came here for lunch, had classic American, 3 cheese and cheesy tots between three of us. Service was great and the food was ready quickly. My 3 cheese was really tasty, my son enjoyed his classic grilled cheese and the cheesy tots were lovely. Refills of fountain soda. Good prices too!

My daughter and I stopped in before seeing a matinee on Broadway. They were quick and my vegetarian grilled cheese was quite yummy. I wasn’t a fan of the tots. I understand that everyone offers fries and I’m sure they are trying to keep it cool. Personally, not a fan but yummy grilled cheese none-the-less. It’s worth a pop in.

Trendy, hipster grilled cheeses. This is as accurate a description as I can provide for this place. Milkshakes were great. Tater tot's were average. A little warm inside, so be prepared to take off your jacket.

Seriously the best thing we had in NYC. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was delicious. Love love love!

Stopped by chance. The choices looked appealing, the end result not so much. It was good to have something different but food was overpriced and looked like something you could whip up at home. Would not go back, too many other better choices.

We met a friend here for a quick bite before seeing the Rockette's Christmas Spectacular - I ordered the Maple Bacon grilled cheese and it was fantastic... it has aged cheddar, brick spread and maple glazed bacon. I'm not sure what the brick spread is, but it "makes" the sandwich. I could have eaten a second one if I had had the time! My Husband had the fried chicken sandwich, which included pepper jack cheese, melt sauce and purple slaw... he thought it was great. Will definitely return next time we're in town.

I always look forward to going to Melt Shop every time I go to New York. The food is always great and the staff helpful. Can’t wait to go back.

The cheesy tots were really good. Nice and crispy and not greasy. The grilled cheese, on the other hand, was super greasy. I could only eat half of the maple bacon. I also had a Nutella shake. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it was too Nutella-y. My husband said his burger was good, and reminded him of the ones at Shake Shack. I think I’d skip this one next time.

My husband and I each had a classic cheese sandwich and a tator tot ... The food was good and the place was clean a quick .

My teenage daughter has traveled with me all over the country. She rates grilled cheese sandwiches for fun. She rated this one #1 9 months ago. Returned to NY this week, still on top. It's saying a lot!
Great sandwiches
The sandwiches were great and fast. The fried chicken sandwich had a lot of slaw and was good. The burger melt had a lot of meat. The buffalo blue was excellent. I highly recommend for a quick but high quality meal.
