Stopped in at 4 pm for an early dinner. Was quickly seated in a tight space next to the staff area. Had Lasagna and Spaghetti - both were very good and the lasagna was a huge serving. Server dropped off the food and we didn't see him again until all done. By the time we were done, many tables were filled up, so be sure to call early to make a reservation - we tried calling that afternoon and they were booked up.

My 5 friends and I went here for dinner after seeing a play. The place is small but homely. The food was great, I had the braised beef and there was so much that I was able to bring some home for dinner the following night. The lentil dip with olive oil that was on the table was so good that my friend (who is Greek) told me how to make this. The fruit pie creme Brulé was out of this world. Any way the next time I go in to see a play I am definitely coming back and so are my friends.

Staying in New Yorker hotel and after a long day sight seeing want something close by. Reviews mixed but thought would give it a go and wasn’t disappointed. Good local Italian dishes with good wine selection. Dinner for two $100 which was ok.

Had a delicious dinner tonight. Gnocchi were delicious. Husband had the special black ink gnocchi with shrimp which he loved. Tried the tiramisu for dessert, also wonderful.

Very cozy place. Had such wonderful service, our water was always topped off. Food was good for price.

I celebrated my birthday here last weekend. It was an inspired choice. The atmosphere, food, wine and service was excellent. Warmly commend this restaurant.

PROS Awesome Italian food in Mid-Town, with great service and high quality wine list. Right price CONS Deserve more space because place is very good Recommended place for Italian food in Mid-Town

A great meal and a great place...please just go as authentic an Italian atmosphere as I’m sure there is in New York. A special thank you to the hosts on the day who were not aware of our booking with Fabio but still found a way to accommodate us in a busy flourishing restaurant. I’m sure they’ve let Fabio know 😂

We encountered this restaurant as it was situated near our airbnb. This is quite a small restaurant, which added to the cosy vibe of the restaurant. The staff were quite friendly and accommodating. The food here was alright, but have had better Italian food. The dishes took a while to come out as well.

Very close to Time Square hotels, this is a very good restaurant serving tried and true Italian food. The food was very tasty and servings quite large. Both the food and drinks menus were comprehensive but The service was good but a little slow when busy. The service was versatile and we were able to order meals to share or just pasta. Good value and comfortable

Stopped in after a Broadway show. They are open late. Still bustling. Ud week at 10:00. Food and service were fantastic. Coffee was delicious A wonderful topper to a gun evening.

Went to Mercato on a Saturday night. Inside has exposed brick wall and small bar. Ordered fried artichokes for the appetizer- very good. Entree was a special- beet gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce- just delightful. Gnocchi were a pretty pink and very light. Gorgonzola was subtle, not overwhelming at all. Tiramisu was delicious. A bottle of white wine with dinner was a perfect accompaniment. Service was attentive without being intrusive. A great meal and a great time

A decent choice is vegetarian options. A unique taste in both pasta dishes with a very traditional authentic Italian feel. This place even has Michelin rating.

This restaurant is tiny by today's standards. So, make reservations or show up early. Food is always good, wine is too. Desserts, well you k ow you must have that too! If you are single or like to snuggle the "bar" can handle a few people. A must on our list when we are in the city.

Never ever ever ask for the wifi password. It is way to much work for the waitress because she is terribly busy serving 3 tables. Then she gives you the wrong one, and, oh boy, don’t ask a second time...

By chance, after a careful search for an Italian restaurant, I found the market, among other things, it was also convenient to reach because it was close to our hotel. The place is very pleasant, intimate, a nice atmosphere, the food even if at New York prices (they charge) was also excellent the staff served us a lady from Puglia who was very friendly and company always with a smile unlike I presume the owner who dear grace greeted us I mean two Italians enter your restaurant at least a few nice words could also be said then for goodness' sake :-) in any case I absolutely recommend it for a real Italian dinner in New York

We happened upon this restaurant because it was around the corner from where we were staying in the Garment District, and stopped in for a late lunch. The food was very good and everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We ended up being the only patrons left in the afternoon, and we enjoyed chatting with the staff who were quite friendly.

This is the Italian restaurant we always hope to find when in New York City. The ambiance is simple with old floors and a large bar. Very authentic southern Italian food. Bread brought to the table with a bowl of lentils in oil. We shared an order of mussels. They were larger than we are used too, but had that briny taste of the sea. My husband had the pork belly nicely done. I had a wonderful lasagna. Lots of selection on the wine list. People around us seemed very satisfied with their cocktails. Desert too was very good. We split a flourless chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream. Nice coffee. Will go again. A great start to our evening at the theater. A nice little walk before sitting again.

Found this gem on TripAdvisor. Didn’t even realize it was right across from our hotel. It’s a small restaurant with authentic Italian and wonderful wine.

We’ve eaten here a couple of times. It’s a lovely restaurant with tasty food. If they put their Beet Gorgonzola Gnocchi on their permanent menu I’d be there frequently.

What a lovely place. I first visited in 2015 and then again last month. I was enchanted by this wonderful and authentic Italian joint. The food, wine and atmosphere is just superb.

Had reservations for 7.30, got there at 7.20. Brauna the hostess told us to sit at the bar until the table was ready, so we did. As we sat there I saw them set up our table, it was for 3 people and the table was ready for 3 people. A couple walks in and I saw them pointing to the table set for 3 and I saw Brauna looking at us and seeming telling the couple that that table was for us. Then suddenly, that table was changed to a setting for 2 and the couple that just walked in were seated. It was quite obvious that she decided to give the couple that just walked in the table which was previously set for my reservation. I asked her how much of a wait we had and she replied “2 min”. We waited another 20 min and I asked her again how much time for our wait and she replied “2 min” again. Another 20 min later I ask someone else that we had 7.30 reservations and it was 40 min later. Apparently Brauna doesn’t know what “2 min” is and has no respect for the customers time! Usually I don’t mind the wait, but knowing that Brauna had no respect for our reservations it did not settle well with me. My review is not with the food or the restaurant but with the hostess’s rudeness. The restaurant is small and people notice what the hostess is doing. Please keep that in mind.

We ate there while in town on business. The restaurant is fairly small (though larger than it looks from the street), very nicely decorated with a bistro feel. Everyone was very friendly, and our wait person was very professional and accomodating, even making us something not on the menu. The food was exceptional. The lasagna reminded me of the dishes in Italy. My wife had one of the evening's specials which was also excellent. There is a good selection of wines, at average prices for NYC. I almost hesitate to give it such a good recommendation because I'm afraid there won't be a table for us when we're in town next!!

Fabulous italian food and service. However was very noisy and crowded, tables very close and heard every conversation from adjoining tables....not the place for a romantic dinner.

The Mercato was a happy surprize. The night we went the restaurant was crowded so obviously popular, so it was fortunate we had a booking. Staff were attentive, polite and unpushy. The menu was not extensive, but we had a very tasty meal and left satisfied. Overall a great experience

Found this quaint little Trattoria in Hell's Kitchen, and popped in for dinner. The food was amazing, just like being in Italy. Doesn't hurt that almost everyone that works there is ITALIAN...accents and all! A little eye candy makes every meal a little more enjoyable!

This place was recommended by hotel staff and it was ok. Lovely ambiance. My steak was medium rather than medium rare. Fair price and service was fine

Excellent cozy small Italian restaurant for authentic Italian feast. Great place for small groups and couples. Limited vegetarian options.

Nice, kind and elegant Excellent and quality food. Recommended for lunches and dinners Original Italian ingredients

You must try this place if you are in the area. Get the artichokes and homemade lasagna! But love everything on the menu and have been many times.

We very much enjoyed this restaurant. The service was excellent. The pasta was homemade and extremely good! Prices were very fair

A great find in Hell's Kitchen - offering genuinely friendly service in an inviting restaurant. My seafood pasta was excellent and filling, but I still had to order the Tiramisu which I am glad I did.

Dined with family last weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by the authentic Italian food and setting. We had a range of traditional Italian main courses and each was delicious. Priced reasonably also. Good selection of wines also. A relaxed atmosphere and apart from tables being a little too close together, it was a really enjoyable dining experience. Will definitely visit when back in NYC and happy to recommend!

We (me and wife) came by this restaurant by accident, walking by. It looks super cozy and small though it has more seating inside than can be seen from the street. We came early (5:30) for dinner without reservation and managed to get a table, even though it was already getting packed and it was made clear that as from 7 there were no tables available. The service was fast and friendly. Though busy and tightly packed, the restaurant was not too noisy for a good conversation. The food: good but not more. We had salad starters (caprese, rucola) and then ravioli and pan roasted sea bream filet. I like the fish, and the tasty bedding of spinach and zucchini pure. The caprese was, surprisingly, a disappointment though. I hate when the tomato and the mozzarella is cold as if straight out by of the fridge. The ravioli was fine.

we showed up without a reservation for dinner but they sat us at the bar within 5 minutes. Drinks were fantastic, food and service were great!

Because of construction, I had to walk right up to the door to be sure it was still open. There are just a few tables but we arrived late afternoon and had the place to ourselves. This is AUTHENTIC Italian - homemade pasta, just the right amount of sauce. Quick service. We had Fettuccine ai Fungi (mushrooms) and Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci al Burro e Salvia (spinach, Ricotta, and a wonderful sage butter sauce. Do order (complimentary) bread before dinner - with delicious capers in oil. Prices were not bad. 4 stars for small portions and everything is a la carte.

I would not return - expensive and not extremely tasteful. We expected more than what we got and the staff was not overly friendly. My opinion - choose another Italian restaurant.

This trip included the third time I have had an excellent meal at Mercato. If I were to have a "go-to" restaurant in New York, this would have to be it. The ever so slightly offensive "I can't be bothered that you don't like the table in the kitchen pass-thru area" host in a white tee shirt couldn't spoil a superb experience. The salad was very large and tasty, the gnocchi was top notch. I look forward to a fourth visit on my next NY trip.

Visiting from out of town and found this beautiful hidden gem atmosphere near times square. The food was delicious and authentic and our server was friendly and made great recommendations. I'd highly recommend visiting this place.

Wanted someplace within walking distance and saw this on Tripadvisor so decided to give it a try and I'm sure glad I did. Had a wonderful meal with great service. I had a glass of rose and husband had a drink and both were very good. Husband had the lasagna and of course I tried it, very good and I must say better than mine. I had the zuppa di pesce. OMG it was perfect, perfectly cooked seafood and I'm here to say that is not easy to do but Mercato managed it perfectly. Husband had affagato for dessert and loved it. I cannot tell you how happy we were to find this great place.

The food was really good. We had gnocchi Bolognese and ravioli, A glass of wine, bottle of beer and some olives all came to about 60 dollars. The tables are quite close together and it always seems to be busy. Best to ring and make reservation. I would go back.

A superb find, thanks to TripAdvisor! Such a good Italian restaurant. The service was fantastic, as was the food, drink.amd atmosphere. The Tiramisu was outstanding; my usual gauge for a good and in this case is an excellent Italian restaurant.

My wife and I went here before catching a show on Broadway. Service (Klevis) was fast and friendly. Luckily, we had a reservation, because it is a very small place. Food was hot and tasty. I had linguine with seafood and she had fettucine with mushrooms. Price was reasonable, at $60 with a bottle of sparkling water, before tip.

We were looking for a restaurant near Madison Square Garden that served good food. We were pleasantly surprised with Mercato. The atmosphere feels family-oriented, with antiques, and on the small side. I ordered a salad and lasagna. Both items were fresh and delicious and I would recommend. The service was great and it was uncrowded.

Initially, we were seated and asked to use the QR code to access the menu, however, I feel this as a default isn't great especially considering the restaurant didn't seem to offer free internet. However upon asking, physical menus were available. The portion of salmon was very large, thick and relatively nice. Although the single accompaniment to the salmon was a side of Sautéed Chicory which there was a lot of and it was like chewing grass it was rather unpleasant.

We ate here as a group of six. Seated within 5 minutes of reservation time. Nice appetizers- try the sausages- different and delicious- wild boar ragout was flavorful and tasty. Ravioli was too. Service was efficient and timely. Fun, a bit loud but as others say, much like a trattoria in Italy

This is a great restaurant! Prompt, friendly service and amazing homemade food! Loved the quaint back room next to the wine cellar. Tight quarters but it makes it very cozy. Everything was clean! Drinks, food, dessert were all top notch! I cannot wait to go again!

I've eaten here once before about three years ago. I stumbled across it again while in town on business. It is situated on 39th, slightly off of 8th. It is a true hidden gem. I recommend making a reservation as the place it rather small, but very popular. Based on its popularity, it must have been written up locally many times. My wife and I started with appetizers, one being a special (Sea Scallops). They were delicious. Then for the entrees, my wife ordered the Lasagna and I had the Salmon. Both were perfect portions and prepared perfectly. Note: they do have two-three daily specials so if you are looking up the menu online, just know there will be some surprises awaiting you when you arrive. Service was impeccable. Next time in NY, I will definitely be going back.

Everything was wonderful about our meal...the service, the environment, the wine...but most especially the amazing food. I would highly recommend for a romantic dinner. Also, very affordable.

Excellent choice. Great food and service. Safe and clean food served hot and knowledgeable staff took all the precautions to give us a great experience.

intimate restaurant which we enjoyed twice during our weekend n NY. The service was friendly and accommodating, we enjoyed the Bruschetta and calamari, shrimp cod appetizer, fresh, alight and crisp. The Gnocchi pork ragu was our favorite, The boar pasta was good as well.

Cosy little cafe a tad on the scruffy side but food and service both good. Cafe was in Hell’s Kitchen area and near our Double Tree Hilton Hotel.

When I arrived at the restaurant they were confused about our reservation and finally reconciled with phone number. Guests who arrived after us were told we weren’t there and there was no reservation. Additionally, I asked at 5pm if they could make a reservation for my wife later on that night. They said yes. When she arrived they told her there was no reservation, told her they couldn’t seat her, and told her I must have had wrong place in my message to her. Funny since I did it from back room of their restaurant. Were very rude and dismissive. And by the way, the meal I had was fair. Not a do again. Reservation process awful.

A special casual food. Italian cuisine with a Michelin recommendation. Sabores pronunciados de uma cozinha caprichada.

I went there with my daughter which is a Foody, and I can just tell you she said, one of the best Italian Restaurants ever. Great wines, small place so make sure you do a reservation. Going back next time in NYC

Pleasant discovery in New York. Italian guys offering high-quality Apulian cuisine in the Big Apple. You will find fresh products served in the correct way. The price is right for the city. I recommend it to people from Puglia who go to New York

In a quiet street but not far from the buzz. The cold cuts board was very good and generously served, quite good for sharing. Orichietti with anchovies were a bit fad, too much breadcrumbs. Fettuccini with mushrooms were ok. Semifreddo was very good and the tiramisu was also very good, freshly made. I went back and forth between 3 and 4 stars, but the price was very reasonable considering we had a starter, main dish, dessert, coffee, beer and grappa. Service was good.

Referred by a friend and not disappointed at all! Service was excellent, very attentive, and nice. I had the Caprese salad and spaghetti with a cappuccino to end. Perfect little Gem! Highly recommend!

PURELY BY CHANCE, we gave Mercato a try - - it was early for lunch, on a frigid Monday just before Chrismtukkah and the place we had planned to try hadn't opened yet. What a stroke of LUCK. The ambience is charming in a very low-key way. The staff, headed by our server Roberta, was friendly and attentive to every need we had, and some we didn't even know we had, and the food was sublime. Pugliese-style and absolutely top notch! We enjoyed a pork dish served with a mashed fennel that was totally unique and authentic and simply out of this world. My sister, who never finishes anything on her plate, ate every last morsel. I had a lasagna that tasted like my grandmother had returned from the great beyond and made it totally from scratch - with an excellent ragu sauce and home-made noodles. We were already completely happy but opted to share a mixed-green salad (instead of dessert, although I hear the Tiramisu is world-class) - - fresh, wholesome, and a large portion, easily shared by two. And then an espresso with no bitter burned aftertaste. SMOOOOOOOOTH! A delight on all counts, but I will add that Roberta improved on an already perfect experience by her charming and friendly demeanor. A truly happy accident, and now definitely a destination for us in the future!

Mercato was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious- the tiramisu was the best my husband has had - even in Italy. The service was excellent. A total hidden gem.

Great food. Home-made pasta. Great fish dish. Great sauces. Delicious home-made desert. Pleasant service. We ate in the back room, which was quiet. The place is not fancy and upscale, but the food is wonderful. Only negative is the front room with the bar was a bit smelly and first impression walking in is the place looks a bit dated. Prices for NYC seem to be average.

Excellent true Italian food , very friendly service ; great choice also for vegetarians ; quality and simplicity

Recommended by locals as the go to place for food Italian food and they were right. Many tasty combinations and I would recommend the wild boar ragu or spaghetti pomodoro. Sizeable portions, good variety of specials and appetisers as well like burrata, Italian meats, fresh tomato and basil bruschetta and much more. Very busy early evening pre theatre but very friendly and fast service.

Lately Little Italy has become little more than a turist trap filled with fake decorations and heavy cream galore... This place is way more than just a hidden gem, it's an authentic Italian treasure and NEEDS to be appreciated by more people. Hands down the best italian food on our NY trip and possibly the best lasagna of my life(and that includes ones eaten in actual Italy). We had the ricotta filled ravioli with sage butter, beef ragout gnocchi, spaghetti di mare( Seafood pasta), and beef lasagna(life changing I swear) . For dessert we had the Tiramisu(a little heavy on the coffee flavor) and almond Semifredo. The owner mentioned the desserts were based on his nonnas recipes, and the lasagna a personal twist on his mothers recipe.

My wife and I stopped in and sat at bar. We were greeted by Giacomo who was very interesting and friendly. We had a fantastic octupus app grilled and served on a delicious puree. We then moved on to mains. Giacomo recommended the zipper de pesce which was great! My wife had the house ravioli and we both loved it. This place will replace our much beloved D'Ciro which closed,

Authentic exquisite Italian food, cozy atmosphere and excellent friendly service. We really enjoyed it!

This would be a 3.5 if that were allowed. Had such a great lunch in first day in NY we went back for dinner last night. Here’s the thing - tiny hole in the wall which is cool. Good wine list. Homemade pasta. But our service was friendlier at lunch. Husband had fish of the day and I had the pesto-type pasta and both were so good we literally cleaned our plates. Back for dinner and husband had fish soup which was good and I had lasagne which is what is impacting this rating. It was so bland. I don’t even think there was meat in it. Such a disappointment. Appetizer of sausage and potato and the Burrata both “meh”. Dessert awful. You’d be better off having an after dinner drink. I think this place is popular enough and they rely on that rep and the homemade pasta but they should make sure they are consistent. And up their lasagne game!

Excellent dinner in a restaurant that truly has something Italian (unlike many others who boast of knowing Italian cuisine without knowing anything about it...). Average prices for New York. Courteous and fast service.

I hadn't been to Mercato's in quite a while and am currently going back to especially Italian places I really like for a revisit. It has been a while for most places due to the pandemic and I would rather not go than to do takeout. I stopped by early one afternoon for a late lunch-early dinner. There was no one present in the restaurant and i wasn't sure they were opened yet. Someone came out from the back and I was seated immediately. I was given a menu and ice water and Italian bread with olive oil with lentils made there was to the table. The bread was delicious. I began to look over the menu and I gave my drink order at that time-I got an Aperol spritz, They had the option to use the contactless menu but I do not have an Iphone. i opted for the trenette pasta noodles with pesto and pine nuts. After having a couple of pieces of Italian bread with olive oil, my food arrived. It was a healthy portion and was delicious. I then decided what to get next-I am not really a dessert person but decided on a double espresso which finished the meal off nicely. It is a small restaurant with a garden out back which is great when the weather is nice for dining al fresco. The staff is attentive and it is reasonably price. It has a Michelin star and is worth a visit.

Took a chance and managed to get a table at this small but popular restaurant, staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. Great atmosphere and well priced for good wholesome Italian food and wine, would highly recommend

We ate in this Italian trattoria on New Year's Eve and two days later always for dinner, it was suggested by an Italian living in New York and I must say that the suggestion was more than valid, you eat some Italian dishes cooked well, the environment recreates a 90s trattoria, the staff, not everything speaks Italian, is helpful and friendly. I suggest it for an Italian dinner.

It was one of our best meals in New York. A quaint family restaurant with friendly staff and real homemade food. We had the mushroom Lasagne excellent and a delicious salad...freshly made. We will be back.

Fantastic food and wonderful service. My daughter and I have been talking about the pesto she had for days! The location was very convenient to our hotel but I think we will seek out this place for our next trip even if we aren't staying close by.

We had dinner 5 times in this restaurant and tried almost 70% of the dishes on the menu. It was a unique discovery since the quality is high and the prices are competitive by New York standards. Apulian, Sardinian, Sicilian dishes cooked really well and then a very good espresso. I always recommend booking in advance. I thank the staff who accompanied us in these days in particular Saverio, Roberta, Stefania, guys with whom we also exchanged ideas, information, hopes on the life of those like me who left their homeland to follow a dream abroad.

We wanted somewhere that had good comfort Italian and this place fits that perfectly. We had the buffalo mozzarella appetizer special and the lasagna... all was delicious. Recommend!!!!

Three of us enjoyed dining across from the kitchen at a small table. The place is small, intimate and sort of cozy but very comfortable. Service was fast, efficient and non-intrusive. Our meals were excellent as was the bread and a terrific bottle of a bold, fruity red wine (The susumaniello varietal). The menu was pretty new to most of us and by no means a standard American-Italian fare--but better. An easy walk from many Times Square area motels.

My husband and I stumbled on Mercato, while looking for lunch. Each course was better than the next. We started off with a superb buffalo mozzarella with plum tomatoes, prosciutto and basil. The appetizer literally knocked our socks off as it was mouthwatering. Then I had the spaghetti and my husband had the rigatoni and ricotta salata. We finished off our meal with a dessert special; ricotta covered in dark chocolate. Everything was absolutely amazing!

This is actually the second time I've been here and both times the atmosphere and food were excellent. A bit off the beaten path, especially for theater, but worth the walk. This cozy locale but with plenty of room offers delicious, well-portioned appetizers and entrees. The grilled octopus and meatball apps are excellent. Both the pesto and ravioli entrees were Delish!

Excellent food. Real Italian eatery. Food was fresh and delightful and the dessert were amazing. The employees were very attentive and courteous. Awesome atmosphere.

This restaurant was recommended to me and my coworkers by the hotel we were staying at nearby. We were seated near the kitchen which was ok, but what was not ok was that the off-duty staff/boyfriends/hangers-on were also seated nearby free of charge. We were treated to the backroom gossip and unprofessionalism you would expect of a work lounge area, but charged full cost on the menu. To make it worse, the off-duty staff was making fun of our group as we were trying to enjoy our dinner. I won't even bother to comment on the food, since it doesn't matter what you eat in that terrible and unwelcoming environment. Do yourself a favour and spend your time and money somewhere else.

We went to this restaurant on a freezing cold evening and had a wonderful experience. The food was among the best Italian food I have ever had - even during my many trips to Italy. I had a gnocchi and ragu sauce (beef and pork) which was so good that had I been alone I would have licked the bowl clean. The restaurant is dark and beautiful and cozy and the perfect place to be on a cold NYC night. The service was incredibly attentive and I couldn't have been happier there. The prices are extremely good especially in NYC and the portions were perfect! Don't miss this gem of a restaurant!

Wanted some real good Italian food and this place did not disappoint at all. The lasagna and fettuccine was phenomenal. The only “bad” thing was the table sits low if you are on the bench in the back dining.

Cozy place, friendly staff, Giacomo and Roberta super, they make you feel like you're at home. Good first courses feel like being in Puglia

Wonderful food, with vegetarian options. It's a tightly packed, small dinning room, and not a place for quiet conversation. The dishes were so fresh and tasty. A lovely evening wth friends.

This is probably the least corporate feeling restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. Very tiny place but we were able to get a table for 6 before the dinner crowd showed up. The pasta is homemade and the dishes were pretty unique. Service was satisfactory and we weren’t rushed out of the place. I got the feeling that it caters to a local crowd. This is a “red sauce” Italian place.

Food was delish and authentic, service friendly and overall a very cosy, intimate dining experience.

Conveniently located very close to Port Authority, a few blocks from Penn Station, and also close to quite a number of hotels. The place is small. Food is good. I especially liked the fried artichoke appetizer.

I was looking for a place close to Madison Square Garden and glad I picked this little tucked away restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen! I felt like I was in Italy with the decor and size of the place! We ordered the rucola salad which was so yummy!! The entrees , spaghetti with fresh tomato sauce and NY steak were the perfect choices! They were cooked perfectly and we didn’t feel too full! They make a great aperol spritz too and for dessert yummy gelato! I will definitely go back since it made me feel like I was in Italy for a moment! Great food, wonderful service and great ambiance!!

Absolutely delicious Italian food in a cozy and romantic ambiance. Perfect place to spend Valentine’s Day (and they gave us a rose when we walked in!). The gnocchi al ragu was amazing, as was the spaghetti.

I was visiting from Scotland and met up with some American friends. One of them asked the receptionist in our hotel where was a nice place to have lunch ! She suggested here so we walked round and they were quiet when we went in, so we got the table for 5. My husband had just been through a stomach op where he had two thirds of his stomach removed so he can only eat small portions! One of the American friends asked if my husband could have half a portion, to which she was answered in seconds NO ! The food and drinks were delicious, no problems there , they brought the bill $180 so I was paying and decided on $30 , but I did not have a $10 note or change so I left $240 with the bill. He took it away and to my disgust he shouted from the bar, DO YOU REQUIRE CHANGE? ?????? How rude ! So I was not having a scene in front of my friends so I said no !!!! In the UK we leave what we like if the food and service are good ! We do not have these little notes at the bottom of the bill saying 20% for this, 15% for this and so on, we leave what we like !!! I believe they deserve the above score as they were rude on both occasions ! Not overly friends especially to visitors !

Hidden away in a back street (you would easily walk by); imo this place is well worth seeking out. We read mixed reviews, but were staying nearby so decided to give it a go ~ so pleased we did! The food is really good, the staff attentive (without being in your face). The price was less than we paid on Times Square & the food so much better. If you’re thinking of booking ~ stop thinking & book! I hope you enjoy like we did x

Excellent meal and attentive staff. Great ambience. We had bruschetta to start and pasta with wild boar ragu and lasagne. It was all delicious and the bread with the lentil dip provided at the start was also delicious.

What I like the most about Mercato is that they have a wide selection of menu items from Apulia, the region of southern Italy that my grandparents came from. What I don't like is that I now have to pay New York City prices for food that I used to eat with my grandparents every day, lol. Seriously the food is excellent, not your standard Italian restaurant fare. My personal favorite is the orecchiete with anchovies and broccoli rabe. Portions are generous. If I close my eyes I'm sitting in my nonna's kitchen..............If you want real Italian food come here. Their wine list also compliments the food perfectly.

We mostly liked the food. I am Italian, and this is authentic Italian food. Service has been nice all along, until the point in which they basically "kicked" (figuratively) us out having ordered a glass of wine 5 minutes before closing time...

A family friendly restaurant that features authentic, excellent Italian food. We had great service, waited a bit to be seated - despite reservation, but truly enjoyed the ambiance adn the food. Highlyh recommend.

We popped in on our last night in New York having tried a few places in the area and were very pleasantly surprised. Great, friendly, attentive service and superb food at not-insane prices. We were with a teenager and a slightly noisy autistic 7 year old (aka our children) and we still managed to enjoy our meals. My wife had the wild boar ragu which she said was the best bolognese-style sauce she’d ever had. Whilst technically incorrect (as it wasn’t as good as the one I make at home), this is high praise. So if you ever find yourself in this slightly dodgy corner of Hell’s Kitchen, definitely pop in and give it a try.

We went to this restaurant yesterday with my father, my sister, my niece and my 3 year old daughter. The quality of the food is good as are the service and prices in general. What doesn't allow me to give a higher rating was the fact that we took a plate of pasta with broccoli and a plain pasta for the 3 year old girl which we were charged $18 each...when we pointed out that we had been charged as much for the plain pasta as a seasoned pasta, we were told that that was the price of the least expensive pasta dish they had and they couldn't do anything else... it's not for a few more dollars on the bill but a question of principle.

We flew into town on a Friday & were staying in Midtown. Plugged in a restaurant search on Yelp & found Mercato. Called to see if we needed a reservation & were able to get 4 ppl in for 8pm reservation. Glad we did. It was packed! We were promptly seated in backroom, luckily away from front door. All 4 of us had fabulous meals - sea bass special, lasagna (some of the best we've ever had), spaghetti & ravioli. Staff was attentive, prompt & courteous. Location was small, but definitely charming. Our exchange student with us said it definitely reminded her of a genuine Italian restaurant. We'd definitely recommend.

Excellent Italian cuisine restaurant. Tasty homemade pasta in a characteristic and welcoming place. Quick and kind service. To try

I went here last Thursday with two friends. What a horrible place....We made a 7:30 reservation but were told to wait outside (in the rain) -- that our table wasn't ready. It's fine to wait a little while, but after an hour and still no table it was clear that the restaurant is beyond poorly run. When we finally were called inside NO apology for us having to wait and forgot any kind of compensation for us waiting for so long...then a somewhat rude and inattentive wait staff followed for the meal. After dinner we asked our waitress to send the manager over. We wanted to make him aware that we had to wait so long...and told him we were surprised there was no glass of wine on the house for our troubles, or even an apology. He then went on a rant about too bad that we had to wait and brought up that he had to wait for 2 hours for "Ippudo" once...it was super unprofessional and awkward. He ended the rant by saying, "fine. I will give you $8.00. Will that make up for it." We asked about the $8.00 and he said for the dessert...no way are you getting a glass of wine or anything else," and he slammed away. We didn't see him again and all got up silent and pretty shocked...and to top it all off...as if the terrible service wasn't enough, on the wall right next to us -- a HUGE roach crawling around....(photos below) I told the manager about it on the way out and he just snarled at us. How miserable.... With so many great, inexpensive restaurants in NYC -- there is absolutely no reason to ever go to this place. Ever.

Very nice welcome, refined Italian cuisine, general atmosphere ++ price a little above average restaurants , however I highly recommend the price is in line with the meal

We so enjoyed our meal at Mercato. The portions were generous and the meat and cheese board was delicious and a terrific value compared to other manhattan restaurants. The caponata was as if my italian mother made it. Delicioso!

Overall a disappointing experience. Waitress was terrible as she was very inattentive and disinterested in providing good service. Food was just average - we’ve had far better. Smaller restaurant so if seated by kitchen, it can very noisy. The excellent reviews shown on Trip Advisor did not match up to our expectations

I had the meatballs and were amazing. Great cozy restaurant with rustic decor. Service was very good too.

Close to our hotel and had quite a few customers eating but it hadn’t come top of the list when we searched. so we went to the one that did. That was completely empty and looked clinical. So returned here and we were really pleased that we did. Great Italian staff with lots to say about the food and made great recommendations. Very traditional Italian food, fresh pasta and really tasty. Bread and lentils in olives were included while we had drinks and chose our meals. Similar prices as others in the area and there are a lot of Italian restaurants round and about. We would definitely recommend this one. It looks small from the street but there is another larger area at the rear.

was recommended by a friend had great meal, simple and very authentic Italian food, wonderful service

Friendly, warm and tasty experience! It’s not look like a good Restaurant from outside. When you walk in, you can feel warm Italian feeling. List was good and waiter told us that list have never changed after opening. You need to try it!

Was looking for a spot to meet my friend while she was in town for work. This place fit the bill. It's a typically small NYC spot with a hint of a romantic ambiance that was a bit lost on us. We started with the Tagliere Pugliese and Impepata di Cozze which were both delicious. Entrees, my friend went with the Frutti de Mare over Linguine while I went with the Orata con Spinaci e Crema di Zucchine. Both entrees were well seasoned and tasted very fresh. The pasta on my friend's dish seemed to be homemade or it was a really good impostor! If you're in the area, pop in!

It was a wonderful experience. We stumbled by chance at this little restaurant and were very happy with the meal and service! Their complimentary capers with lentils and olive oil were exceptionally tasty! The eggplant ratatouille were delicious as well as lasagna and steak! Staff was very attentive, even wiped the table between the courses! Lovely atmosphere! Would recommend the place to any Italian cuisine lover!

Lovely authentic Italian. Very good food. I got the salmon and it was delicious. My niece got the fettuccine with wild mushrooms. She loved it.

We booked this restaurant largely on the basis of it having fresh-made pasta. One of us got an autumn-themed ravioli, while the other got the lasagna. Entrees come with complimentary bread. The ravioli stood out due to its fresh texture, along with its savory. The lasagna, however, was fine, yet unremarkable. The place is cozy, and we sat in the back room near the wine cellar, where it was quite dark.

The homemade pasta is awesome. Good service. Friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. Abundant selections on menu.

Great option on 39th Street, between 8th. And 9a. Avenues. Very varied menu, with delicious starters and main dishes. Unlike other restaurants in NY, you can see the care in the assembly and presentation of the dishes. Highlight for the drinks, which are very well made and at affordable prices. The service is friendly and attentive, which is also a rarity in the city.

We just came back from a Valentine’s Day dinner that was... disheartening. We skipped the special menu for the most part (more on that in a moment) and stuck to basics. The meatball appetizer was adequate at best with a funky taste in the middle of each one. The pesto spaghetti was very strong on the nuts that are mixed into the dish, but it otherwise seemed to lack flavor. The lasagna was the biggest disappointment. Just seemed like generic beef, cheese, pasta and sauce slapped together. Soggy and nothing special about it. We had the special heart-shaped chocolate cake from the Valentine’s menu, but while not stale, it tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator or freezer for well over 24 hours. The “mocktail” we ordered was way too sweet, like something you’d give a child. The restaurant itself is in a lovely space off 9th Avenue and the wait staff did a fine job on a busy, important night. We would come back if there was a major overhaul in the food. Time to bring in (or replace) an executive chef.

Excellent Food and wonderful staff. Marco and Diego were exceptional! All of our needs were met. I had the Lasagna Tradizionale, it was delicious and a large potion. Small, but cozy atmosphere, excellent wine selection. You won't be disappointed!

Recommended to us by a local Italian, this was a real find. Traditional Italian trattoria with authentic, well cooked food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I only wish we had been more hungry!

Trip Advisor found me this place and since it’s actually across the road from my hotel with good reviews, decided to go. Service was prompt and polite. Ambiance in restaurant was lovely. We chose a simple salad to start and both followed with linguine alla pescatore. A favourite dish which I can safely say was the best I’ve had. Lovely fresh seafood flavours and plenty of it.

Fun atmosphere, and the best lasagna my co worker said he ever had. I had salmon which was so-so, but the wine and old country feel made up for it. Packed and loud.

You pay top dollar for f’ing nothing No taste, no value I’m still hungry af -starving Marvin Wheres the Donaldz at?

We were seated promptly for our reservation and served bread and oil with lentils which was a delicious change to the usual bread and oil. It is a cozy restaurant with small tables for two that are difficult to fit all of the drinks and food on together. Tables are also very close to each other so not conducive to private conversations. The atmosphere is lively with laughter and conversation and everyone seeming to have a good time. The food more than makes up for the uncomfortable seating arrangements. The pasta was fresh and delicious with tasty sauces and good portions. We loved the spinach and ricotta filled ravioli in sage butter sauce and the wild mushroom fettuccini. It was a memorable meal for all the right reasons. We would return and happily recommend.

We had dinner on New Year's Eve and a couple of nights later, well prepared Italian style cuisine, good pasta, some of the staff speaks Italian, the place leads back to an 80s trattoria.

My friends and I were walking back from the Highline and needed a place to eat. I realized that this restaurant was only a couple of blocks away. I hoped that we could get a table, even though we didn't have a reservation. The gentleman at the front door was gracias enough to squeeze us in. The atmosphere was relaxed, the wait staff was quick and efficient and the food was great. I had a pasta dish that was just what I needed after walking around the city all day. So if you need a moderately priced Italian restaurant that has great food in midtown, this is the place!

False Italian , South American managers and cooks . Not bad pasta .... simply tasteless and had to be wild boar sauce , for $30.00 then much better Meatball shop , do not pretend to be what they are not . Very surprised by the enthusiastic reviews of Italians

First night in NY, found this gem of a place, as good as Italian as one could expect. Attentive service but not over the top. Rustic environment, small and cozy, looks like it would be popular, can understand why. Good selection of both food and drinks.

This modest sized restaurant has tables in the front and back rooms and some crammed in the hallway that passes the kitchen. The place can get noisy when at capacity. There is nothing in the decor that says flashy. It is a basic eatery with authentic, high quality Italian food. The menu has multiple choices and the appetizers and entrees reflect an attention to the Italian tradition. If you are up for dessert, you will find a few, but I was disappointed in the selection. This restaurant has been consistent over the years. It was totally packed on a week night so get a reservation.

Being from Chicago and Northern Italy, we considered it the best! From the appetizers to main meal, it was spectacular. Try the lasagna. So impressed, we went twice.

I have eaten here a number of times over the years. We booked a party of 8 on a Thursday night. Restaurant was packed and very noisy in the back room( don't sit there). Our server was Bruna- not pleasant or accommodating. I asked for the ravioli to be in a red sauce not sage ( which i had gotten before) and was told no. A couple of others in the party asked for accommodations, they were also told no. Not i'm sorry, just no. The issue with things opening up again is that mediocre placed can thrive. I'm done here. Too many really great places to put up with this. the entire party felt the same.

Good service, food, and vibe. Had a late reservation. However, we were able to arrive an hour earlier and they were fantastic giving us a table right away. Everyone was very nice and the service was fast and well served.

Food was amazing !!! Very busy place , rocking , stunning food, casual atmosphere. Would recommend. Downside - 20% added to the bill automatically! No choice on tip value , service was OK but a little slow. We should have had the option on what we wanted to tip and not have it auto added.

For antipasti, I ordered the Polpo e Patate (pan seared octopus with potatoes, olives & capers). It was so good, and the portion was huge. I almost couldn't eat the main course, which was the Porchetta al Finocchietto (roasted pork belly in fresh herbs). While it was very tasty, I found the meat a bit dry. The restaurant itself was charming, like a rustic Italian tavern, but some tables were placed too close to each other - the table for 6 next to me was uncomfortably close and I was worried my wine glass might get knocked over. Nevertheless, it was overall a good dining experience.

We had spaghetti pomodoro and pasta with a pesto sauce. Both were tasty and portion size was reasonable. Bruschetta was delicious. For dessert the semifreddo was outstanding. We would gladly return.

We had Lasagna, OK not a lot of meat thin layers of pasta. Pork Chop special, thickest chop I've ever had, it was o.k.

This is a quaint restaurant that totally makes you feel like you are eating in Italy, which we have been to! The food was simply fabulous and had great service as well.

Smallish cozy space. My 2nd visit here. ordered a few items to share. the orechiette with rabe isn't to be missed. Fair prices and nice service.

Was looking for somewhere close to our hotel that would cater for vegetarians and meat eaters, this was it. Small menu but lots of choice for each of us. Food delicious and evenly paced between servings. Reasonably priced for NYC and a great place for homemade authentic Italian cuisine.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this restaurant. There are so many other restaurants around it is absurd to put yourself in the situation to deal with the rudeness and unprofessional personnel, especially the 'host'. I got to the place, without a reservation, at 6:00 PM. The 'host' did not want to take a reservation from me for 6:30 PM so, I was asked to wait until the the rest of the party arrives because their policy is not to sit anybody before the party is complete (!!!!!) and, according to the 'host', they take a reservation one day in advance. So ridiculous! Meanwhile they accommodated everyone who arrived after me without a reservation. I asked to be sited and I'll order something for myself, to make sure I'll have a table before the party comes. The host refused it so I LEFT after standing for about 30 minutes because, at that point, I realized that the 'host' made me lose the interest in that tiny, dark little place of theirs. I was not even interested in their food anymore. We found a very nice place very modern and very clean a few steps away, right at the corner of 9th ave with 39 st.

Stopped by for a quick bite before a concert. We did not have a reservation. The hostess informed us that she had a available table but we could only have it for an hour. We agreed and sat down at exactly 6:15 pm. Service was mediocre at best. The food was good, especially the meat and cheese platter. Around 6:55, the hostess entered the back room where were sitting and stared at my husband and myself. We were well aware of how much time was we had left. From 6:55 to 7:10, the hostess gave us the "stare down" 5 times. The last time ,she told one of the bussers to start to clean our table. We were still finishing our drinks. The busser was actually attempting to wipe the table underneath my husband's raised arms. He was told to leave as we were not finished. There were unoccupied tables on both sides of us. I don't know why this table was so special. My husband had to lower his head and move his chair each time the server attempted to serve the corner table to our left. We left at exactly 7:15; one hour after we arrived. The hostess made us feel rushed and what could have been an enjoyable meal turned into indigestion. I was going to rate Mercato with an average as opposed to poor, but the unpleasant and rude behavior of the hostess swayed me to a poor rating. We will not be back and based upon the behavior of the hostess' behavior are hesitant to recommend it to any of our friends.

Fantastic array of pasta dishes. Reasonably priced and delicious. Linguine with seafood was a top pick. Wine list was an extensive tour of Italy.

Perfect salade nicoise with lovely dressing - also a varied menu with many appealing-sounding pasta dishes (including homemade pasta) Fairly quiet during a late lunch. I liked the fact that they didn't mind our taking our time. No complaints -- except for carelessness when it came to the bill (we were billed for another table's order, but the error was corrected promptly when we pointed it out). Otherwise a good place for a relaxing lunch in a rather hectic part of midtown Manhattan.

I was in the theater district and we stopped in for a quick dinner. The waitstaff rushed us through our meal, which really wasnt that much fun since we met up early so we could enjoy a leisurely dinner before we went to a show. That aside, the food was old school Italian, nothing too special, but not too bad either. I ordered the lasagna and it was extremely cheesy and gooey, so if you like that sort of food, this is the place for you. It’s extremely cozy and if they just let us relax we would have had a nice dinner. There are much better places in the area however so based on the lack of friendliness of the waitress, the rushing us out the door and the lackluster food, I don’t think i will be going back too soon.

I met a friend for dinner on a busy Thursday evening. It was relatively busy when I arrived, with no reservation, but I was seated and tended to patiently as I waited for about 15 mins for my friend to arrive. One she did, we took our time enjoying lots of good food and wine. We were there for 3 hours and not once did I feel like we were being rushed. The fava beans appetizer was delicious, as was the gnocchi entree. I highly recommend a visit

We ate here on Thanksgiving night, had reservations and was seated immediately. Ordered the Fettucine Al Funghi, it was a lot more funghi than fettucine (good, not great). Ordered the Spaghetti as well, just okay, pretty tomatoe-ie. Server was great and helpful.

A little off the beaten path, Mercato’s simple but deceptively sophisticated take on the cuisine of Puglia, ( the southern “heel” of the Italian boot) has made it our go-to restaurant for before and after theater visits. Perfectly prepared fish and meat staples ( a wonderful seafood soup in spicy tomato sauce is my favorite) and truly memorable pasta dishes are reasonably priced and uniformly delicious. I especially love the orecchiette with broccoli rabe and anchovies. My wife prefers the traditional lasagna with beef ragu and a friend raved about the ravioli filled with spinach a ricotta in a rich butter and sage sauce. We started with a plate of deep fried artichoke which came with shavings of pecorino salato and a light lemon dressing. And I always order a side of sautéed spinach, a garlic lover’s delight. I’m unusually too stuffed to order dessert, but I’ve tasted the tiramisu and it was predictably wonderful. All in all, Mercato is an excellent, refreshingly unpretentious dining experience and its convenient after-theater hours ( they’re open until midnight) make it a perfect midtown choice.

The homemade pasta (Fettuccine w/wild mushrooms and ravioli w sage sauce) were delicious, the octopus appetizer was perfectly cooked, the orecchiette ( I believe not house made) was undercooked (diner did not finish). Well worth the Italian dining experience. The restaurant was packed and we were prompted to leave our table as soon as we paid the bill. This left a bit of a bad taste on what was a nice dinner.

We were a group of six, everybody enjoyed their meals and appetizers. Thank you Antonio for your service. The only problem we had was the lighting at our table you could not read the menu or see what you were eating.

We found this place by reviews and we did not have a reservation but the manager found a way to get our party of three inside. The restaurant was quaint and busy. Our food was really ordinary starting with the bread seemed stale and oil not flavorful. We two had lasagnas which were burned slightly, and my sister had gnocchi. All were fine but nothing left us dazzled. The waitress suggested an alternative to the glass of wine we ordered to a”special “ wine being offered which we didn’t ask for the price . It was good, but nothing exceptional and it ended up being $20.00 a glass. So, after four glasses later we could have ordered a decent bottle,

The restaurant itself is ok, but, it is very crowded and noisy. Our waitress was trying to rush us, we asked for menus and she said to scan a barcode to bring it up on our phone. That was a disaster as I had no clue what to do as I am not that good with technology. She came back twice to ask what we wanted, All I wanted was to get a glass of wine and take my time ordering. Finally we got their house paper menu, but couldn't read it as it was too dark in there. Food was ok but not great. Will not go back again..

It’s quite small place in the heart of Manhattan on 39th Street (almost on the corner of 9th Avenue). They serve real Italian food and no pizzas. My gnocchis were excellent and desset Affogato was even better. Service was friendly and I got small glass of Sambuca for free when I mentioned that it’s my favourite. 👍

Cute italian restaurant with interesting mediterranean flavors. The place looks a little small from the outside but there's plenty of room at the back. The food was delicious and the environment warm and friendly. The portions are maybe a little small. In the end we had a tiramisu for dessert and I loved it.

Fancied an Italian and this was close to our hotel. Didn’t have a reservation but managed to get a table for the three of us. Great ambience along with great staff . Food very good and tasty.

There are good items on the menu - spinach salad, octopus. The other dishes are all in the same style, with tomato sauce. From wine card partially missing items , tables small, long service

Went there with a friend for lunch on a Saturday. The food was excellent and the service was good. Lovely ambience !

Dinner on Christmas Eve and dinner on Christmas Day!!! A piece of Italy in New York. Excellent raw materials, very collected local and very kind staff. Not least the portions are very generous..... great value considering where we are. It will become a permanent fixture when I am in NYC!

Such a refreshing change of pace for Italian food. Food was absolutely delicious. I had the fettuccine with mushrooms and my husband had the gnocchi. Service was perfect. The one downside was it was tiny and there was a large loud party near us. It was uncomfortably loud, like shrieking and high pitched laughing. We hurried to leave.

Worst dinner in New York: Italians, stay away! After touring several restaurants, trying typical American and many other ethnic food, we wanted to end the holiday with some Italian food. Had we ever done it... terrible food quality, acidic burrata more similar to yogurt, overcooked, unseasoned and watered-down pasta. And then the grand finale: what was supposed to be a baked sea bream with vegetables was presented as a fried shoe sole resting on a broth of tasteless vegetables. The waiter was not very attentive and clumsy, he brought one course 20 minutes after the others and kept passing a rag over the table while we were eating to remove the bread crumbs, which we had to ask for three times before it was brought. In short, a tragedy, in the elementary school canteen they do a lot better! The only funny thing was seeing the faces of the Americans satisfied and convinced of eating Italian food.

We were staying at a hotel on 39th street and found this place with a 5 minute walk. Certainly a low-key entrance, making it almost unnoticeable. We were seated in the back room, close to the kitchen, so I got a look at plates on the way to their tables. It's primarily an Italian restaurant, served with the typical multiple course method. We both had a salad and their lasagna, with a bottle of red wine. Dinner, dessert, and wine was $104. Service was good, seating is tight, ambiance was just right for our anniversary meal. I would repeat!

Went there based on Tripadvisor recommendation. Very nice location, excellent back room with quiet seating. The servants were transactional but friendly. The food was good. We had lasagna, boar, and rigatoni. The lasagne was fairly blend. The other dishes recommendable. We can definitely recommend the deserts - cheesecake and tiramisu. Given the fact that this was the most expensive food of our NTC week relative to the taste, we gave only three points.

A true Italian trattoria. Cozy but tight interior. Friendly Italian staff, large menu for the size of the venue but all of it is authentic Italian. They even made space for a wine cellar in their small rear dining room so you know there is serious about their Vino. Would definitely recommend it.

Very cosy and very good food and wine. I recommend that you also taste their dessert and their Grappa!

Went here for dinner, based on Trip Advisor and the Hyatt Place Hotel recommendations. Reservations recommended. Great Server-Vanessa. Food was Excellent. Homemade pasta. Please know, the dining room is small. Only a few tables for 2 and rest are for 4 persons and they will not seat a party of two at a larger table. The tables for 2 are very small. Also, if you plan to use a gift card or credit card that does not have a chip, they will not take it.

Amazing dinner! We had the pear/walnut/arugula salad and then the spinach ravioli and eggplant rigatoni. The atmosphere is authentically Italian. The hostess and waitress were friendly and attentive. Wonderful dining experience!!!

Delicious menu at midpoint price range. Friendly staff with nice ambiance. Arrived after seeing Hamilton and were hungry for a light snack. Had a range of delicious appetizers from olives to prosciutto ham served with bread. Service was good and atmosphere very enjoyable.

Sadly this reastaurant does not live up to its Michelin status. We always rely on Michelin to guide us to places with good, great or outstanding food no matter the setting. The evening began well with a warm welcome and glass of wine from a good selection of regional Italian wines. The ambiance is cosy and rustic and the anticipation was high. Delicious bread with a unique and tasty lentil, caper and olive oil dip. Unfortunately that was the high point. Staters of Burrata and Caponata came straight from the fridge so were relatively tasteless. I’m sure that if they had been at the correct temperature they would have been quite good. What followed was the special (and very expensive) braised pork shank which should have been fall of the bone, melt in the mouth, but was dry and very burnt on the bottom- almost inedible. The first dessert, a kind of millefeuille was sent back as it was stale and soggy and the replacement was a panacotta was ok. What a shame it was so bad as it has the potential to be great. Now onto the service, not friendly Italian but rushed and abrupt. A lot of money to be disappointed.

We only discovered this restaurant on the last night of our stay in NY. Close to Time Square and Bryant Park convenient to walk there the few minutes from the subway stop. Italian (Apulian) owners and also the waitress who served us. An eye on the Italians. Attentive and precise service. Aperitif offered with chickpea and lentil sauce with sliced bread. Then we had bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, various olives, orecchiette, gnocchi, tagliata and sweet and bitter. $180 including the tip. Maybe a little expensive, but in line with the prices of the area and especially very good food. We were fully satisfied
Below standard, tasteless and expensive
Based on the sticks on the door we expected a lot, but it ended up being tasteless and and disappointing. I had the special, which was a risotto with truffle. It tastes watery. My Frieda had pasta and lasagna, and also said that it was tasting less then expected. Many we where colored by having great food for the last days, but sorry, for the price we paid here this was below standard by a long shot.
