Loved the food. But the main thing here guys is the service. They make sure the customer is having a good time. Their birthday celebration is very fun as well.

As many people have stated below, the food is very average and you can get much more authentic Indian food in NY, BUT, the atmosphere and service is worth it! This is not a place for people who don't like to get their neighbor and have a fear of tiny places. You will bump elbows with everyone. All part of the charm. Also, it is BYOB, so be sure to get your beer and wine before going. I had a total blast!!

So much I could say about this place, but where to start! So, first, the decor, oh my! It is the first thing you notice & it has got some character! wow! make sure to duck! And the food; Not only is the food excellent, but all the staff are so very welcoming and friendly. all of them. Last, if you love indian food and are celebrating your birthday, please go here, you'll thank me later, as they do a really loud indian song with flashing lights and the whole nine yards. It's great.

absolutely friendly service, amazing food and unforgetable ambiance and decor. You cannot miss Milon, one of my favorites restaurants in NY. the food is really excellent and the prices aboslutely affordable. My friends from Milon are the best! Be careful!!: when you arrive, the hostess from the next restaurant Pana II try to encourage you to go there saying that "it is the same restaurant" at that is not true. the original, and the best ever is Milon!!

One night I walked past this place and thought it looked so bizarre I had to eat there, whatever they were serving! So a couple weeks later, I went with two Brits who know their curry. What a disappointment. It's very cool and crazy looking inside, but the food fell entirely flat. It lacked extremely lacked flavor. I would have rather had Trader Joe's frozen Indian (which is very tasty IMHO) instead of this. Maybe go once for the novelty, but don't expect great food. IJS.

If you manage to pass through a rather aggressive marketing guys at the entrance to the restaurant next to Milon, you will find a place full of Led lights and a full menu at more than decent prices. We had there real good Samosas, both beef and vegetables. The Chicken and vegetables Bahraini was less of a success as the chicken cutlet pieces were too dry for my taste. One thing I didn't appreciate was the fact that a 20% tip was pre calculated into the bill... If you have a birthday and you tell them about it you will enjoy a really nice celebration ☺️

The cheapest and most bizzare Indian restaurant on the face of the planet... but yet so fantastic! The Indian food is mediocre, this is not why one goes to Milon. The lights alone may give you a seizure, and the waitstaff is hilarious with their US Flag neckties. No matter when you go, or who you're with - tell them it's someone's birthday... You're welcome.

The food is excellent and is delivered very fast. You must bring your own alcohol, but there is a liquor store conveniently close by. The only drawback may be that the tables are crammed and the ceiling is extremely low, this is not good if you are a bit claustrophobic, but otherwise it ads to the unique atmosphere.

Fun and fast service, atmosphere is unique ,food is very good, I like Indian food more spicy but verry good!

"Please, come in" beckoned the nice host/bouncer from atop the short staircase leading to one of the East Village's many Indian cafes. Milon looks like many of the others - strands of gawdy chili pepper lights, inflatable beach balls decorated with cartoon characters, and many other hideously festive displays. The area around East 6th Street is packed with authentic Indian culinary shrines, often making it difficult to discern which would provide the best dining experience. Luckily, a friend introduced me to Milon, a true hidden gem. We were ushered into the intimate dining room, where our server was extremely friendly and helpful with our selections. Our side order of Naan was soft, doughy, and delicious. The Chicken Tikka Mussalam contained tender chicken in an aromatic coconut sauce and tossed with crisp almonds. The grilled Chicken Tandoori was enhanced with bold Indian seasonings. Both entrees were served with fresh rice. We were pleasantly surprised by the bonus scoop of creamy mango ice cream, which calmed the spicy festivities dancing around on our tongues. There was a birthday being celebrated at a neighboring table, and apparently this restaurant is a common place to celebrate such an occasion. The waiters gather around to serenade the birthday person, and the small space encourages all fellow diners to join in with their new acquaintances. The affordable prices, congenial atmosphere, and authentic cuisine make Milon stand out among its peers.

Milon is super fun. Over the top lights - Christmas on crack - in a small space. Not the best Indian you'll have in your life, but good. And the vibe makes it a must-do experience. There are a few Indian spots doing the crazy lights thing on this block (curry row). Milon is the oldest. I'm betting the experience, however, would be the same with any of them. Even better, it's BYOB. There is an Indian convenience store below the restaurant where you can grab beer. Worth venturing to, especially with a small group.

We went here for a friends birthday dinner recently - we had extreme difficulty getting into the restaurant first of all as it was very cramped. We then all sat and ordered from a set menu they produced which showed $20 per person. We all ordered appetizers and main dishes. Only 7 of the appetizers came out, leaving 6 of us without anything to eat. We assumed they would come out so left it. They then started bringing out the main dishes when some of us hadn't eaten anything and some people were still eating the appetizer. When we flagged this, we were told only 3 of us had ordered from the set menu and that the rest of us weren't getting appetizers (even though we had watched them be written down). After arguing with a member of staff for about 10 minutes he then tried to tell us we weren't allowed to leave and that we had to be pay for what we ordered even though some of us hadn't eaten a thing - he then proceeded to shut the door. After much deliberation and being spoken to by another member of staff we stayed as we were told the food was ready and coming out. By this point we were all disheartened and tired as it was 10pm and our initial reservation was 8.30pm. This place looks incredible and the food wasn't the worst Indian food I've had but after the stress of the night and there being drama on my friends birthday I can guarantee I won't favor this over any other Indian in NYC!

Although trendy restaurant the noise is unbearable the food is really nothing to write home about, the price is extremely high, however the service is great!! We had to go eat outside in order to be able to hear each other

Just wow! This tiny place seemed very different to me at first. But then I was just enjoying this original atmosphere!! Amazing food, fun music and pretty unusual lights. Would def recommend it! P. S. Watch out, this place is getting packed around 7ish

When you get inside the restaurant you are immediately immersed in dangling colored lights. It's like Bollywood club meets restaurant. The food was good. We got chicken tandoori masala, chicken coconut curry, and chicken biryini. All had good flavor but a bit small of portions for what I was expecting. First tip- make reservations. This is a small restaurant and super limited seating. Second tip-when you get there there are four restaurants that all look the same. I don't know if they are all related but it seemed like they weren't. You want the top left.

A wide range of the usual Indian foods. Good rather than great, excellent service and great value. Fun decor. Not world class, but good and tasty. I would cheerfully go back. If you haven't tried Indian food before, this world be a good place to start. You will have a good time and enjoy the flavors. Beware, cash only.

Excellent food, but go for the Fun. Buy a beer next door to take, they don't have a liquor license, but they encourage BYOB. If anyone in your party has a birthday, don't tell the person anything, just tell the waiter, ... for 30 secs of fun and a scoop of fab ice-cream. Shhhh, ... it's a secret.

I went to this restaurant strictly for the images - the lights are truly something else! It's extremely tiny and crowded, so just drop any expectations of personal space. The food here was pretty cheap and delicious for the price we paid. We took our own wine bottles given that it's BYOB. The birthday celebration here with the song and lights is an added bonus!

So tasting food and mesmerizing environment! Really recommended, you have to try all the appetizers and the Madras curry whilst enjoying the incandescent lights and the great service that will make you think that you just trip into Bombay!

This restaraunt is located to the left of another Indian restaraunt up a set of stairs and the two owners will try to urge you to their place instead of the other. We chose left. The place was small and uniquely decorated. The food was reasonably priced and very good. The owner brought out extra food for us to try since we told him we were new to indian food. I have not eaten much Indian food but would happily go back to try more.

If you are looking for a psychedelic experience this is the place. Reservations are recommended although they do not mean much, and they do not serve alcohol so it is BYOB. Besides this, the vibe is fun and colorful, although the place is always packed and loud. Also and most importantly, the food is VERY good so it is totally worth going for many different reasons. Of course Milon's bday celebrations are famous since the whole place starts singing a Bollywood version of "Happy bday to you", with all the lights synchronized. Overall is a great place for a fun unconventional dinner! Also, quick tip: ALWAYS do the math when it comes to the bill...! But overall the service is super nice and friendly.

One of the reasons, well I guess not one, why I love this place is because of the cute decoration combined with great food and you can bring your alcohol! This place is such a fun place to come with your friends and just drink and eat and take photos lol. Would consider bringing my tourist friends here, since new york is all about different experiences.

There were many choices on the block but we were very pleased with our choice. Tight setting quarters, but everything else was excellent. Free mango ice cream for dessert was the service icing on the cake. Awesome food with low prices.

It was so congested that the waiter had to shift us again and again when he wanted to go to kitchen Really bad service. We asked them to give us a takeaway instead. And the food was not even worth the pain. They also charge service charge without informing first.

Place is fun - great atmosphere, lights everywhere you look, the birthday celebrations are very festive. Cramped space and seriously if someone is not svelte they will be unhappy and bumped into frequently. My friends were complaining that the chairs were too small for them (they are average sized people). Food was okay - I found it bland, but the nan was outstanding. I probably would have liked to have tried more of the dishes but we were a group that wasn't into sharing for the most part. What annoyed me the most is that they grossly overcharged us (by about $15) - it was so busy that I didn't argue but I also won't go back.

I was there last night sand witnessed a server harassing, actually yelling, at a young woman because he wasn’t happy with his tip. The service was terrible and the food wasn’t great either. Guess they weren’t expecting any customers on Valentines Day....... I won’t go back there again. Plenty of other excellent restaurants to eat in that neighborhood.

Milon is a restaurant in a section of 3 which all seemed to have similar decor and food. We went to this one as we thought it was the one that features in the most recent Netflix series of Daredevil, but we couldn't be sure. Yes, the decor is crazy and looks beautiful from the pics but once you get inside, you realise it's actually a bit tacky! The walls are lined with wrapping paper. We were on a table by the window, which was great but we had a broken lava lamp thing on our table, plugged into a very dodgy looking extension lead with some questionable wiring. The menu is ok, as was the food. It came quickly but was nothing special. Trying to go to the loo is a mission as the place is really small, so you're trying to walk through a little aisle amongst peoples chairs and then there is only one toilet, so I had to wait quite a while. It was a novelty but I feel this is a fire hazard waiting to happen. We didn't book but managed to get a table. However, I think this is because we went fairly early.

We've been coming here for 20 years and still enjoying it and still fascinated by the lights and music and Indian food. Big menu from mild to hot & spicy! I always bring first timers here for the experience. Lots of birthdays get celebrated here. Bring alchohol from store next door. Cash only.

We first ate here over 21 years ago , this is always a great place to visit , friendly and quick with very good quality food for a low cost. Excellent

best described as a car wreck that you can't help gawk at as you pass. rubberneck from afar! atmospherics play a role, but should not trump the food preparation. con ed may love milon for the number of tacky lights, but why do people rate this 3 or 4 stars in spite of the food invoking memories of vomit? 1) epileptics should not enter 2) don't stand up straight unless you are a midget 2) anorexics alone should walk down the only aisle between tables i would also describe milon as a diner inside a stolen metro bus, catered by cafeteria ladies gone wild, and hosted by an indian used car salesman. i typically eat indian because i never prepare it as good as a highly acclaimed restaurants on the web. yet, i would have been wiser to bought frozen nan at trader joe's whether i bothered to cook it or not! the nan was not fresh or flaky or baked nearby. we could not stomach the appetizer and the somasas tasted like mcdonalds expanded into india and started delivering to new york. milon's curry may have more inspired by bangladesh than india which added to my disdain, but the tandoori chicken was coated in mostly red pepper and salt. you could tell the marinade never permeated through the meat and certainly tasted void of the usual balance of turmeric, ginger, garlic, pepper or coriander for that staple dish. they couldn't even prep the rice right. overall, whether you think it crazy kitschy or not, you don't need to pay $20 to enjoy authentic fresh indian. don't torment yourself with an evening here because its BYOB or cheaper than tamarind. indian diners throughout europe

Well - don’t get your hopes up. The place is excellent in terms of service and interior decoration, but I have had much better food. BYOB!

This was selected because it had better reviews than most near 6th street. We went on a slow Sunday and had a great meal. With the special, it was a good deal as well. We both went in despite the somewhat garish "holiday" decor. It quickly grew on us. We shared dishes, which included nan, chicken tandoori, shrimp, and basmati rice. All was included in the dinner. One caveat - the guy from the competing restaurant next to them, tried to block our way into Milon. He was obnoxious. Sorry I didn't write the name down and give him a negative review for that. We sat by the front windows - which gave a good people watching view.

We arrived without reservation on a Saturday night and waited an hour and a half outside to get a table. The place was packed with parties. All I can say is what an experience. The lights that surrounded the place was a nice touch and they shot the famous TV series "Daredevil" here. when ever it was somebodies birthday they would get the disco lights on with Punjabi birthday songs blasting out. We had an absolute ball and would defo recommend it. There's no alcohol so you can bring your own bottle which was cool but the only thing that was disappointing was the food which ok and average.

Went with a group of 10 and sat on tinny chairs in an unusual decor, spicy peppers light bulbs and funky music. The special lunch menu was great and abundant portions, very tasty veggie meal. Free mango ice cream scoop and singalong happy birthday special.

This place was great. But it's the top left the four Indian restaurants that are in a square. So make sure you go to the one on then top left. According to friends of mine it used to be more insane and they got rid of some stuff believe it or not. Had vegetable madras and nan. Other parties had brought their own alcoholic beverages as they don't sell them there.

The best thing of the restaurant is the food.. The second best is the very attractive all-red atmosphere that will transport you to a birthday party. Do not go expecting an intimate or romanticatmoaphere - unless you can be very creative in which case you will find it indeed romantic. It is ideal for celebrations. No alcohol is served so BYOB -or pick up her in the store in the first floor.

We had so much fun in this restaurant. Mostly because we asked the hottest dish on the menu and we had never tasted anything that hot! It was hilarious. Also hilarious is the decoration of the restaurant. And the music. And the chef who fell asleep during his lunch break. I would definitely go back here. The food is good, the place is just....eeh...memorable. PS don't go there if you don't have a sense of humor:)

This is the first Indian restaurant that I tried in 1980 and it's still as popular and even more dazzling now. I'm talking about the decor, which is a crazy world of blinking lights and color. The food is quite satisfying, the service professional and attentive. A party atmosphere reigns, especially nice if you are having a birthday.

Been heading to 1st & 6th Avenues for years for Indian food. While there are more classier and finer establishments, this is one that's the most fun and enjoyment. I love this place. It's always a great experience. If you try walking through the place standing up, and you're taller than 5'5", than you're head skims through all the hanging lights, flowers, and flags. It's just a fabulous New York experience. You have no choice but to become friends with the people at the next table. It's as if they're at your table. It's very close quarters and they really pack em in on weekends. If crowds aren't to your liking, go on an off hour. It's still a great place to be. If there's a birthday, all the lights turn down and the music goes up. The Indian version of Happy Birthday blares out. I'm always bringing friends from out of town. I'm sure this experience is one they've never had.

I have been coming to Milon for many years now with some friends. It is not the best Indian restaurant in town (which one is?? hard question) but we just love it! i recommend the Assorted Appetizers, Keema Paratha, Kofta Malai, Chicken Tikka Byriani, and my by far favorite : Chicken Makhani. The Mango ice creme in the end is so delicious. When you have a birthday they will give you a candle and they put this song on - Fun!

The food was really good, but this place really wins on the atmosphere! This is by far one of the most fun places i've ever eaten. A really great experiance. Bring your own drinks.

Its just a fun place to go and see the tiny little place with thousands of lights hanging down from the ceiling Its bring your own wine, so you can purchase it in the store just below this restaurant. The food is just terrible but its a funny experience !

I love there..!

Looks like this place has really gone downhill, bland tasteless food, main course virtually thrown at us while we were still eating our appetisers, rude uncommunicative staff.. Can do so much better elsewhere. Poor.

Son has lived in NYC for 12 years now so we go here about every two years and no place makes me smile then this place. It is really funky, exciting and just a kick in the pants. But not to be lost is just how good the food is even to a guy who is not big on Indian food. I have no idea what wife and son ordered but I ate it all. Warning: this is a very small place and is very cramped but that is half the fun. Pretty sure you have never been to a place like this. Do Not miss it and be sure to ignore the "barkers" out in front of building trying to get you to go in the wrong place. This place is at the top of the porch stair on the left.

I'm a native New Yorker and was back for a visit in June. An old friend who lives on the lower east side led us to a tiny place set in the first floor of a 100+ year-old walkup fronting 1st Ave. The restaurant have been easily missed if not for the beckonings of the waiters like sideshow hawkers at a carnival standing in front waving us up the steps and calling for us to "come in! come in! eat here!" Once inside, the fun continued as the maitre d' squeezed us into our chairs at one of a half dozen still-empty tables lining both sides of an area almost as wide but not quite the length of a subway car and adorned from floor to ceiling with metallic hanging decorations, blinking colored lights and mirrors on the walls. Our host was well-versed in what and how to order, but Baboo the maitre d' was eager to answer questions about the myriad sauces, spices and flavors available. The waiters were just as friendly, smiling and laughing with us as they took our orders from Baboo, who seemed to be the only one who spoke English well enough to converse with us. All fun and games aside, once the food arrived and the business of eating began, any doubts I might have had regarding the quality of food based upon the circus-like atmosphere quickly vanished. We ordered two plates of assorted appetizers, which included vegetable turnovers and banana fritters fried to perfection and absolutely delicious. The main courses included heaping bowls of basmati rice, lamb and chicken dishes cooked in both a mild almond -banana sauce and a tangy curry masala sauce, nan bread and some yummy banana and mango yogurt and rosewater drink called lassi. I was told by my old friend that this was some of the best Indian fare in the city. Having little experience with Indian food, I was ready to take his word for it. Every dish was something new to me and a wonderful treat for my traditionally American taste buds. My host was not wrong, judging from the fresh tasting, well presented and delectable cuisine I was lucky to experience while in downtown Manhattan.

It's a unique Indian restaurants with lots of lights and all countries flag. Food and service was decent. Go there for uniqueness.

It's BYO, which I wish I knew because I would have liked beer with my curry, but that was my fault not checking. I had the lunch special, which is very cheap. Soup was not tasty. Samosa was also not good. The chicken kurma masala was bland and flavourless. Had to ask twice for my drink. The decor is adorable.

Based on the trip advisor comments I was expecting quite a meal so took 3 metro trains (which was no mean feat given my better half had been on her feet all day - and wasn't backwards in letting me know it). However......the food was ok and I did enjoy it. I didn't enjoy the fact that they couldn't serve alcohol and you had to buy it from the shop downstairs (which had a ruddy great queue when I tried). Also, we had a table of eight sitting virtually in our laps which really gave a new meaning to the word 'cosy'. So cosy that the lady sitting next to (on top of) us had her hair in my wife's food! So - in conclusion, food OK (and cheap), atmosphere completely insane, not enough space to get your fork from the food into your mouth, and no booze to wash the food down with. Think that about covers it!

This place was a great find. The area was really small, but the energy of the staff and the ambience of the restaurant, along with the great food made the scrunched space well worth it. The price was very reasonable.

Restaurant is shady, canceled my order when they found out I had a promo that made the food cheaper, then said I they were closed.

We first visited Milon 5 years ago and we loved it so now that we were again in town, we decided to repeat the experience. Unfortunately I wasn't a good come back. We ordered the dinner menu that according to the menu included: soup, a variety of appetizers, main course and dessert. They skipped the soup and gave us only one samosa per person, no clue about the rest of the things that were listed on the menu. We asked for the rest of the food, they only brought a small cup of soup, no appetizers. Then came the chicken masala with rice, or at least that's what they say it was even though it tasted nothing like what we usually have in other places. We hadn't finished and they came with the check, no sign of the dessert either. We ask for the dessert and they brought us half a scoop each, almost throwing it on us. In general the whole service was very rude, each time we asked for something the waiter didn't even answer to us. His whole attitude was impolite and as if he was making us a favour. After the whole mess between the food and service we decided not to leave any tips. The waiter ended up yelling at us. To sum up, avoid this place!!

Great authentic indian food and professional service! The music and decor are amazing! Highly recommend if you visiting new york.

The place is amazing, the lights, and the food is very good and not very expensive. You can bring your wine or beer, and the people is very friendly.

In this restaurant the owner accused himself and asked if we think that they’re serving us sewer water. So we asked them then they started to fight and we ended up calling the cops. Horrible service. Absolutely do not recommend.

A feast for the eyes and the stomach! All of your senses will be engaged when you experience this restaurant. Authentic food and service in an over the top environment.

I would go for the ambiance alone. I ordered paneer (masala I think). It wasn't as flavorful as I am used to, which might be used to appeal to the masses who couldn't handle real flavor and spice. Otherwise, I enjoyed my experience there and as everyone says, make sure you go to the one on the top left.

Very special, crazy ambiente! Lovely Food, nice staff and value for money. BYOB! Unusual experience within 30 million of luminated chillies!

one of the best place in manhattan,we visit this place for lunch, the fish is realy very well cooked, great service

I loved my evening at Milon! It was fun, the atmosphere was amazing, the lights magical (some would say tacky but I say magical) and the food cheap and averagely good. It's definitely not fine Indian dining, but you don't pay for fine Indian food, the food is cheap and fine but it's the atmosphere that makes this place a must visit. I loved it and would go back!

If you just strolled by and didn’t know the restaurant or had heard about it, you probably would not enter it. The entrance is a little awkward. But if you make it inside you’ll love it. The decoration is one Bollywood spectacle and really special. The service is nice, fast and family style. And, what’s most important: the food is just finest genuine Indian food. Don’t mix Milon up with Panna II which is the other door as they’re side by side.

You have to eat here just once to experience what it's like to be inside NYC's biggest fire hazard. Strands of Christmas, chilli pepper, and any other gaudy type of light fixture one can buy adorn this narrow Indian restaurant from floor to ceiling. As for the food, it's pretty good if standard Indian fare. Service couldn't be more inviting. I love it here, it's a good time and dirt cheap too.

If you are looking for a cheap thrill this is it. The dining experience here is certainly all about the kitchy overdone decor. Cheesy lights to the max. They hang so low that even someone short has to bend down to avoid hitting their head. The food is cheap, but so is its flavor, and the seating is cramped. If you enjoy a cheap night out, don't take your food seriously, and get a kick out of the odd blaring birthday song, then by all means make a visit, but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

This have so fare been the most lively, colorful and most cheesy restaurant I have visited... what an experience... People cramped together, Indian music playing, celling decoration hanging so low that you almost have to crawl in, light flashing in every color... Food was great... all of what we had. I would defiantly come back... and bring friends with me. PS. bring your own alcohol..

If you are claustrophobic sit by the front door and window because the lights hanging down, although fun and funky, can be cramping! The service was very good and fast. Food portions are very generous but Indian Food is meant to be shared so order a variety of dishes and enjoy the fun atmosphere. This restaurant only accepts cash for payment but there is an ATM down at street level.

My family and I have been going to this place for years, so much that my bridal shower was held here. It is truly a little hole in hall, but it is so much fun! The inside decor is over the top, the staff and food is wonderful, the prices are cheap, and best of all- it is BYOB! It is small inside and tends to get cramped, but it is worth the trip. Just keep in mind to go to the restaurant on the top left (there are two other Indian restaurants below it, and another to the right). Make sure to tell the staff it is somebody's birthday :)

We enjoyed our meal here. The over-the-top decor is delightful. The place is tiny, for sure, but we're on the small size and felt that the place worked for us. The food was great. Not the best ever, but very tasty, complex flavors, and the price is right.

Once you locate the place, you will be asked to enter other similar restaurants, don't get fooled. The waiters from these restaurants are waiting by the door in order to win customers over. Milon is quite small, but as soon as you enter that door, you get transported to another world. Truly a great out of the box experience.

I really love Indian cooking and this restaurant is fantastic and the courses have a great taste! All the the staff is very kindly. I would like advise you the tandoori courses 'cause i think that they are the best food.

Between 3 and 4 points... What I love about Milon is the colourful atmosphere ... It is funny...it's BYO for alcohol ... The food is good !

Milos continuously delivers high quality fish dishes . Best in NY? Affordable for lunch but.. too expensive for diner. Lunch Menu of 29,50$ is superb. Wide choice of different dishes. Take the Tomato with feta cheese , fantastic Dorade and as desert the baklava; can not go wrong!

My family and I have been eating Indian food at Milon for the last 25 years and every time is a pleasure to the senses! The food is delicious and the service great and so is the price! The place is small and usually crowded, but the multicolored lights just above your head (when you are sitting) plus the music make for an unforgettable experience. If you are celebrating a birthday, just tell your waiter, they will surprise you with a happy birthday song Indian style and the entire restaurant will sing along for you! I feel happy every time I eat there!!

The wait staff did not take my food allergies seriously. They lied about ingredients, and as a result, I was sick for a full day. I can contribute my illness to this restaurant because it was the only food I ate all day which I had not prepared myself. I am allergic to dairy, and they said the masala did not contain ghee or butter. They said it was cooked in oil. Clearly the oil did contain butter or ghee, because I had a serious allergic reaction that night. I will never return and advise any one with any type of food allergy to stay away.

An aberration. Smiling is not mandatory and everyone has the right to be unhealthy. But here the waiters hurry us to order, collect the empty plates by dropping the cutlery placed on our table, tell us very unpleasantly that only cash is accepted once the time of the addition and dares to claim a tip. The food is just right. Nice decor but catches tourists.

We've been going for so many years. Amazing food, super fun atmosphere. One of my favorite places in New York.

Came here the other night as someone had told us about it. The lights were very fun, but the atmosphere is not great, the staff made us wait in the kitchen area at the back for our table we had booked (which they had clearly forgotten!). When we were seated we were rushed to our table. The staff were constantly rushing around and knocking into the chairs of the diners, they weren’t very smiley either. The food was ok apart from our naan being served 30 minutes before our curry arrived. Overall the experience was bizarre, but the food was tasty. Seems more like a tourist attraction to see the lights!

When I moved to NYC in 2013, this was the first restaurant someone brought me to. I have since moved to a different city, but each time I return to my beloved NYC I have to stop by. This is the best place to bring people from out of town, because it is an "only in NYC" experience. The interior is TIGHT! I mean you won't have personal space here. You need to maneuver your way to your table, but for me it's worth it. Also, expect to wait in line outside, but, once again, it's worth it. The staff is amazing. Once, we had such a good time that we left a huge tip. The waiter chased us down the street, thinking we made a mistake. So sweet and humble!

Milon's atmosphere is lively with about a million christmas lights but that is where the good experience ends. There are two competing restaurants side by side who yell at you in attempts to sway your decision of which place to eat. The food is just ok and served on melamine plates. Water glasses were refilled but at no time did the waiter ask how we were doing or if we thought the food was satisfactory. Our mistake was misreading the bill. The food items with charges were listed at the top. At the bottom were two more charges, we thought tax and gratuity. We thought odd but had never been here before. We left the correct amount in cash and left the building. After about one minute the waiter charged down the steps and out to us on the sidewalk. Yelling that we did not leave a tip. After trying to explain ourselves and getting nowhere we dug into pockets and gave him some money. Whew! Never have experienced that before and hope to never again!!!!

The decor at Milon is quite eclectic ... other reviewers have noted that the restaurant is a fire trap. I'm not sure about that, but I do wonder how they manage to power the thousands of holiday lights strewn about the place ... must have its own power plant in the back! The service was prompt and friendly, but I was disappointed in the food. From the Tandori mixed grill, to the vegetable biryani, to the naan bread ... average. I was actually interested in an Indian dessert, but we weren't offered a choice ... they brought out small (very) dishes of mango ice cream (or some such). I guess we were done. Its BYOB (which I liked), and this kept the cost down.

Very nice! Must do! We enjoyed the full experience! Food, music and interiour were super. We will come back when we are in New York.

the food was mediocre but definitely not bad, so going for the atmosphere and for a relatively cheap meal is definitely worth it.

Tasty food, with a great atmosphere, but the space was to small. They don’t sell wine not even beer. But they allow you tu bring your own alcohol if you want.

This is a fun little place to stop over for delicious Indian food. I have been here over a dozen times and I always leave happy. Be sure to stop over at the convenience store (wide beer selection) in the same block since Milon is BYOB. Also stop at the ATM ahead of time since this is a cash only restaurant. Do yourself a favor and skip the chains and theme restaurants and go to something like Milon or any of the hundreds of other authentic restaurants in town.

Imagine a Christmas-themed drag queen explosion. That's the only way I can describe the decor in Milon Bangladesh. The food is decent, and the service is mediocre, but the experience is worth it. They occasionally turn off the lights and have a little party moment throughout your dining experience. Be sure you come here with friends you know well. This is NOT a first date place - unless you're definitely not interested in talking. :)

very colorful and funny restuarant. Food is ok and prices are reasonable we did spent a nice night. Only a couple of concern about health and safety and also i did not like the fact that you can't order almost anything to drink.

Can't believe I hadn't eaten here with all the time I've spent in NYC! It was small and crowded and loud and full of lights and amazing energy and the service was friendly and fast! Plus...great Indian food! BYOB and cash only, so be prepared. I highly recommend this dining experience for friends, couples, and special fun occasions! What a great experience... Thank you Milon!

We came for dinner in the evening of Cinco de Mayo so it was not packed as usual. The decor is very special, my child loved it. Although I worry about fire safety in places like this. We had - samosa (ok), pakoras (good), fried banana (ok not sure when this became a Indian dish), butter chicken (ok), palak paneer (the only dish that tasted authentic), aloo gobi (not good), chicken jazfrezi (very average), tandoori chicken (good), rice (ok), nann (ok), cheese-filled nann (another invention but my child liked it). I’m very spoiled with high quality authentic Indian food in the silicone valley so the food here is very average. Although I have tasted better Indian food in NYC than this. Everything kinda tasted the same. The spices needed to highlight the dishes were missing. When the bill came, my friend was unhappy that we could not read the hand-written check. There was no way to verify if we ordered the food on the check. Oh yah it’s a cash only place so no dispute either.

Whenever I'm in NY I always make it a point to stop here. I'm never sure what I'm actually ordering but it is always delicious. Today we had a chickpea curry and some sort of chicken in a creamy coconut sauce. Our water glasses were never empty and the waiter was very attentive. They also gave us each a scoop of mango ice cream after our meal. The over the top lights and atmosphere are so much fun! I love taking family and friends here!
Experience restaurant
This is a crazy place. The food is good, but you'll want to come here for the atmosphere. Christmas lights, music, food and people all crammed into a tiny restaurant. They offer a special "birthday" service. And it's BYOB. Recommended as it's a fun visit.
