Cool Piano Bar in Midtown East

By David K |

Cool piano bar in midtown east. Not many bars left like this. You should def stop in and check it out

Just too many excellent Italian restaurants in NYC to compromise here. Good was mediocre. Service very slow, tables are way to close, quality is average, and price is high. I had a Marsala which came out swimming in some kind of broth with barely a hint of Marsala.

nice for some wine and dine

By petermontes |

pork chops in peppers was good the bread they give you with butter was very good, the ambient was very nice and fun!! lots of people starting singing pretty awesome

Nice Italian. Nice atmosphere

By Greenyab |

We enjoyed our visit to Mimi's the atmosphere and certain touches made it feel very family orientated. Service was good. Food was average. But for the money was a nice meal out

Good food bad service

By Colleen V |

Good food bad service! Our waiter never said a word and we had to ask for refills and anything else we wanted. We would not go back based on the service.

Fabulous meal

By suzanne s |

We went to Mimi's for late Sunday lunch, what a great place the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the mushroom starter and absolutely loved it, the tomato sauce was so flavoursome. To follow I had the chicken Marsala so tender and tasty with a side of pasta (garlic and olive oil) to die for! All in all the best meal we have had in the neighbourhood. We will be back but next time we will be sure to get there a bit later so we can hear the pianist who was just arriving as we were leaving.... If you are in the area and want a great tasty meal that isn't going to break the bank do try Mimi's.

Fun & friendly….

By simon4431 |

I was at Mimi’s for the piano bar, and had an absolute blast. Judy was my server…made me feel right at home. Aaron was terrific at the piano, he could play anything, any style, and he seemed to know everyone, and remember people who hadn’t been to the place for some time. Colorful patrons habituate the place. The overall vibe is really welcoming and fun. I can’t wait to be back in the city. I’ll be back!

Spaghetti "Puttanesca", not on the menu, but they made it for us.

By 8Peter |

You have to love a place where you say "not on the menu", and they say "we can make it". And we got a table at the front window, and Saturday night, the piano player was behind us. He even played "Oh Canada" for us. Very reasonable prices, good food, good wine, worth a return visit.

Cute, quaint, good food.

By Carla M |

They opened at 5 pm, they said. We arrived at 5 pm for an early dinner because we traveled all day. Door was locked. A woman saw us and did not unlock the door. They finally opened at 5:15. The bread was good, my husband got the Carbonara, which was quite good. I ordered baked ravioli Parmesan, but they brought me regular ravioli. It was alright. Not as good as the carbonara. But I don’t send food back unless it’s not edible. We ordered cannoli, which was good, and cappuccinos, which were fantastic. The service was fast and friendly enough. A man played piano as some of the diners sang along. We would definitely return. I’d order something different next time. The chicken Milanese looked good.

Unmissable

By Bullterri |

Great location and decor. Excellent attention by her own owner. Nice atmosphere and with piano music, a really nice place and its people. Very good Italian food, a place to visit in New York. Fully recommended.

Great Place

By Daniel L |

Found this restaurant wandering 2nd Ave and saw that they had live music too. The food was very good and the prices are reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place.

Restaurant or wax museum?

By johnmack63 |

Like a trip back to the 1950s, and not in a good way. Horrendous, pizzeria style food, at outrageous prices. Piano bar will appeal to the oldsters, but food is shameful.

tiny friendly tasty

excellent small menu, very tasty food and great wines. trout carpaccio and pork chip divine. reservations are needed as tiny space

Italian Food and Music

By Maritsa1215 |

At Mimi’s Restaurant & Piano Bar, one can find very good Italian food while listening to some oldies and sing a long music. We ordered filet of sole - grilled and Française with choice of pasta or salad. Both were excellent. We also enjoyed our Tiramisu for dessert. We felt it was a great value and will return.

Fun Place for Comfort Italian

By WhereNext2NYC |

Fun and comfortable setting with singing patrons by the piano bar. The Italian food is ok, but come for the total experience at this old timer. If you want to be in the mix of things, sit in the main room or in the front. The service is always good.

Underhand

By DCL0 |

Good food, OK service, underhand billing. 18% gratuity automatically added to bill total for two people, despite menu advising that this only applied to groups of 5 or more. When queried told this was only a suggestion. I have another suggestion - avoid this place.

Another visit - food / service good

By PlanesTrainsAutos09 |

Been here many times - food is good usual american food and there is plenty of choice on the menu. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Very average dinner

By Danrzr |

The food here was average with it being far from the best spaghetti bolognaise I'd ever had. Service was poor and quite rude at times whilst the venue itself packs in too many tables and is cramped and noisy.

Our worst night in the USA

By John H |

Last night of our three week vacation before returning to the UK so thought we'd go somewhere good. Enjoyed Mimi's a few nights ago so booked a table and returned. On the next table were a couple who were f'ing and blinding very loudly and felt the need to direct their insults at us. The maitre d' was standing next to us but chose to ignore the situation. The pianist was encouraging them. A very disappointing end to what has been a most enjoyable vacation.

In the neighborhood for years. Why?

By Brian B |

This restaurant has been around for many years and after eating here I have to wonder why? After ordering your meal a basket of fresh bread is brought to the table. The bread is almost equal dough and sesame seeds. The Minestrone soup is a dark brown color. The vegetables have no individual flavor or texture and there is an overall oily flavor. It may have been created in the kitchen or heated from a can. Either way it had been simmering for many hours. The tables are so close together that the server will pass you your plate of food rather than place it in front of you. The Manicotti is described on the menu as follows: Homemade crepes filled with ricotta and baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella. All four cheese/pasta dishes were served cool. The Manicotti crepes were best described as soapy in flavor. So much so that only three quarters of the order was eaten. Coffee and dessert were declined as the meal just seemed to get worse by the successive course. The restaurant was busy, customers sang along with the live music and some people took unfinished dishes away with them? If you have low standards in Italian cuisine then Mimi's is for you.

Cute corner very New Yorkish bistro

By JILL G |

Fun piano bar. Serves food very late. Let us split a pasta dish and divided it in the kitchen. Reasonably priced.

Not even close to Italian food, bad service but OK piano music in the background

By Lilia B |

Looks cozy from the outside plus rather good piano music in the background – that’s what made us stay there for a family dinner. Totally wrong decision. Food – not even close to Italian (if you know how good Italian food tastes), not even close to well-prepared dinner at home on a random Tuesday. Two of us had spaghetti Carbonara, the other two – Scampi Shrimps with salad (a bit strange combo). Carbonara tasted as Carbonara at school canteen, Scampi – well.. you can succeed better even if its your first time you prepare scampi.. Service? Elderly lady serving us got irritated because she had problems with withdrawing money from our card with her cash machine and came back with the manual receipt where she included +25% tip… Totally wrong guess from her side, we were not willing to give her that much extra. By the way, the only place in NYC where somebody had problems with cash withdrawal from our card (we left a lot of cash in NYC). One more thing, checking if glasses and cutlery are clean is highly recommended. And finally, if you are in Midtown East in NYC, on the 2nd Ave, basically just across the street to Mimi’s there are few other totally different places, i.e. Socarrat – nice, cozy Paella bar/restaurant with good food (we ate Tappas – fantastic!) and service as it should be.

After Broadway Show Eatery

By Joe M |

From the moment we walked into the restaurant, the amazing ambiance and smells took over our senses. We were greeted immediately and seated promptly. The view from our table of 50th Street was inspiring. The selection of food was tremendous and the staff was eager to please. Elegant yet a casual atmosphere. Mimi's is one of the better places to dine while having a great time in NYC. Five Stars, no question!

worst meal I have ever eaten

By nanotechdave |

We have eaten at Mimis a few times in the past 3 years and found it pretty ok, sadly this visit was awful. I have always tried to give fair and level reviews, so I do not take any joy in leaving a poor review. We initially phoned and booked a table, when we turned up the booking had not been written down, and the attitude we received when we arrived was pretty poor to say the least. We ordered our food after a 15 minute wait, the appetizers were ok. When the main course turned up my food was totally wrong, and the side orders were cold. I asked for the right order and new sides, which we were told 5 minutes. The side orders turned up after about 10 minutes, my food 25 minutes. everyone had finished and yes my side order was again cold. My order of the veal massala was very poor, not only was it tasteless, I had to hunt around under the sauce for what is the smallest bit of veal, I finally found it and it was unedible. Agin telling the waitress that it was not good and I could not eat it. This is really sad as previous visits have been good. Please do not try the tiramasu, it is the most bland tasteless dessert I have ever tasted, all my guests said the same, it left a chemical after taste in your mouth. The piano player made the experience excrutiating, he started to play as we were eating, he hit a good note every now and then, it reminded us of the old Les Dawson sketch , or Morecombe and wise, he was playing the right notes but not necessarily in the right order. Man it was awful. Overall its the worst meal I have ever had, its a pity as Mimis is rated high on trip advisor, and considering 2nd Avenue has an abundance of great restaurants, I hope they up their game, as we were regulars but will not be returning

Comfort food at its best!

By Juju |

I love Mimi’s! Been going there for as long as I can remember! I have so many favorite dishes- white clam sauce or pork chops with hot cherry peppers or tortellini with carbonara or shrimp scampi or.....

Fun local resturant

By Ragtop 2 |

Went there with 6 of us. Food was very good and fair priced for NYC. Italian restaurant but many choices for those of us not eating Italian. Good bartender and piano player rounded out the entertainment.

Fab little place

By Scottishperson |

While visiting NYC friends took me here for drinks in the evening ! We had a fabulous time especially made better with out barmaid Star, what a friendly character. We sang along with the piano player who was very good, we had a real fun evening. Will definitely go again when I am next in NYC and will recommend to friends visiting.

Excellent Food

By Serial-Diner |

On a recent trip to NYC, I was recommended this place as a no-nonsense restaurant with good food and priced right. It didn't disappoint. The menu was good and the server was very attentive...dinner was delicious and the house wine complimented the dishes perfectly... It loses a star for me as the 'boss/manager' was scrolling through his smartphone as we were leaving and didn't bother to lift his head to acknowledge us, even though we said our goodbyes...very bad manners indeed

Amazing music and food!

By lindsey sinistore |

My Husband and I stumbled upon a little gem in the midst of the big apple. Somewhat local, only live a few hours north, we’re used to mediocre food and entertainment. Well, this place we won’t ever forget. To start off we were drawn in by the incredible Johnny Dell, the Friday night piano player. Extremely talented and had us laughing and singing along throughout the time we were there. The food was the cherry on top with delicious, authentic Italian cuisine. We will absolutely be back!

Great little local Italian

By Frances122014 |

Great local spot with live piano music. Friendly staff, lovely pasta, great vibe. Staff helpful and very good value.

Best Family Italian Venue in Midtown

By ogerkan |

My family has been dining here since the 90s. There is a piano player on most night starting around 6:30p. The serving sizes are large. Best to share with large parties. The bread is very good but filling. Always enjoyable. Make reservations directly thru the restaurant.

Just okay

By Susan D |

We came across Mimi's by chance late on a Saturday night and were pleased to get a table without a reservation. The bread for the table was nice, as was the wine. I had the calamari to start which was ok but but was a bit too heavily battered and greasy for me. For main course we had lasagne and carbonara, both of which were okay not brilliant. The ambience in the restaurant was good, with the piano player in the corner quietly playing some classic songs. The service was okay but I didn't like the fact that for a party of two an automatic tip of 18% was charged. Most restaurants only automatically add an 18% gratuity for large parties and notify you up front. We always tip but I think it should be at the discretion of the customer dependent upon the level of service that you have received. I didn't make a fuss and ask for it to be taken off, but I won't visit again.

A Gold Mine for fun and Italian food

By Bobs |

This is a piano bar with very good Italian food. We were there with my son & his girlfriend and had a blast our ages are 20"s, 50"s and 60"s. Singing songs with everyone else from our table as the piano plays and eating some of the best Italian food in the area. The wait staff was great and it's reasonable for what you get. A must stop if in Midtown East.

Great food, great staff and fabulous entertainment!!

By BrankerD |

We were a group of 8 and 6 of us were visiting from out of town...I must say that dining at Mimi's was one of the highlights for all of us. The food was delicious and enjoyed by everyone, the staff were attentive and very accommodating and Harold....the fabulously talented piano player made the room magical...to the point that we all joined in and sang along. Thank-you for making us all feel so very much at home in your restaurant.

Charming authentic new yorker Italian restaurant

By Erik B |

Really enjoyed this laidback pianobar-restaurant. A good mix of people and mainly New Yorkers. No big scale restaurant and provided personal touch and service. Good food and priceworthy.

New York atmosphere in midtown

By Anders D |

I was coming back from a show late evening and had stumbled across this one earlier in the day. They served a late dinner, and I was hungry. The moment you enter first thing you see is a grand piano, and you can hear people singing along to the well-known tunes. The meal was delicious and of a very generous size. Being a tourist in New York City you constantly crave that authentic New York atmosphere, and here, at 11 p.m. I found exactly that. Wouldn’t mind coming back around again.

Good Italian Food

By TombRaider55 |

The restaurant offers pretty good Italian food in Midtown East. It is small and service wasn't that great.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere and Great Staff

By Joel137 |

Old school Italian restaurant. Nothing contemporary about this place. We came here based on a recommendation of a bartender named Alfredo, at the Intercontinental Hotel on Lexington. We walked in and were greeted with a smile by a relative of the original owner. She seated us where we requested and immediately wanted to adjust the air-conditioning for us as she thought we were too cold. Nonsense, I was dripping from a decent walk on a muggy evening. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful, serving us in a team effort. We had a nice Pinot Noir and two delicious entrees. My wife had the Veal Parmigiana and I had the lasagna. Her veal was tender, very lightly breaded and served with a pasta that was perfectly cooked. My lasagna was piping hot and delicious. Their tomato sauce is outstanding and not a drop was left as we used our fresh, delicious bread to sop up every last drop. Prices are beyond reasonable for the suburbs, never-mind NYC. We will most definitely return. Give them a visit. Oh, by the way…a fun piano bar to boot! Joel & Rosalie of Boston, MA and Delray Beach, FL

Warm, cozy and welcoming

By Ardig2014 |

Warm ambiance, lovely live piano music, a good place to relax and get some well-priced delicious Italian food and very good selection of wines by the glass.

Slow service, problems in the kitchen

By Nellie F |

When after waiting over 10 minutes for a waiter to take our drink order, we should have listened to our waiter when he said there will be long delays because the kitchen is understaffed. When I say listen, I meant that we should have walked out. We stayed because we were greeted so cheerfully by the vivacious blonde lady who looks to own the restaurant. She is the saving grace of the restaurant. The food was average. I ordered the chicken marsala but you really couldn't taste the Marsala wine; it was watered down. The mushrooms were just plain button mushrooms that add no flavor as well. That it came with pasta on the side with tomato sauce didn't make sense with the meal. My boyfriend ordered the eggplant parmigiana and that was good but there was very little sauce on it so we had to wait a while for the waiter to return to ask about our meal and then request extra sauce. We also had to wait over an hour for our dinners. The wine list was so-so. It looks like a long-living institution that has gone down the tubes.

Authentic Italian food

By Geeman3 |

Went for dinner before a jazz show at bonafide down the block the service was executional drinks and food were incredible will definitely go back we both had the lasagna GREAT! Live music was also very romantic

Great Atmosphere

By Vtok4me |

The restaurant had live music the night my wife and I were there, a piano man that was very entertaining. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very welcoming. I really wanted to like the food, but it was bland, not a lot of flavor.

" Snazzy Little Place "

By Brentni B |

First time in New York stumbled up on this place and couldn't have been better luckier ! There was a guy the owner maybe, who came to our table gave us a little history about where we were and some of the famous things around us. The food was really good ! The spaghetti was fantastic! Huge meatballs! Just the feel of this place was awesome. Got to people watch and enjoy good food with the family. We sat by the window which was awesome. Not to mention the guy playing the piano . Snazzy little place! I would highly recommend it!

Friendly local spot.

By Gordon B |

A friendly local eatery with delightful service and good food. We arrived and decided to sit in the outside kerbside area, well ventilated with good music. Service and food very tasty and plentiful. I had an oppotunity to visit the toilet which was clean and fresh smelling. A gem of a place.

MiMi's nice local spot

By Soprano1NewJersey |

Neighborhood joint. Food was decent service was very good. Wine list is limited. Overall a decent spot casual and reasonable.

Bland bland bland

By trav226 |

Gave this place a second try 20 years later. Good atmosphere and decent piano bar but the food is bland - like you’re in a cafeteria in the middle of Ohio that’s trying to do “Italian night” - and very overpriced.

Wife's 50 th birthday

By Martin S |

Came here 19 years ago for dinner we have since been to NYC many times since but never came back so we did and where not disappointed great feel atmosphere food amazing service too definitely be back and hope not to wait another 19 years must try if you like Italian food

Look for Another Restaurant

By Duhollow |

My advice is to look for somewhere else to eat. The food and drinks are expensive, the quality of the food is average and the service is poor. I will never go back to the restaurant.

Good spot

By BurkertJ |

Mimi's is located on the edge of Mid-Town and is one of those family operated type Italian restaurants that seems to be harder and harder to find in Manhattan. We liked it a lot. It is great for the food, service is fine and if there is a drawback, it is that it is crowded - call in advance for a reservation. Tourists can find it but to do so they can pass by a half dozen Italian joints that cater to fatter wallets. Our party of six each enjoyed the meal, we enjoyed the piano player and the entire experience.

Average Italian Fare

By DesMcLeish |

Had the cold Antipasti. They left the anchovies out, I mentioned that they should make an adjustment. No apology given & no adjustment made. Service was generally slow, even though the restaurant was not busy (perhaps that is why its not busy) The two pasta dishes we ordered were adequate but no more. There's nothing here to rave about I am afraid.

A great night out in ny

By DanaM60745 |

Went with a large group on the recommendation of a friend. What a great night. We had a great table for 18! The drinks and apps were wonderful. The menu is Italian and everybody loved their food. There is a piano bar and we all sang along. There were four teenagers in our group and they joined in and then Chicken Delicious arrived. He put on a show that is not to be missed. We sang and laughed and stayed far longer than we expected. If you love to join a crowd in song, in a great neighborhood restaurant don't skip Mimi's. I will never forget this fun night.

What a Night!

By Piper58 |

If you want to have a really fun evening, and are not necessarily into the food, then definitely goes to Mimi's! We sat in the front, by the window, close to the piano and Chicken the Entertainer. What a night! Was so much fun interacting with the very talented and eccentric Chicken - and so much fun watching and listening to the various people who join in the singing and yes, dancing! The piano player who played before Chicken began his act was amazing too! The place is packed so try and reserve a table!

Brunch

By WineSnob7 |

We weren't able to get in for dinner, small place (only 27 seats) but the food was amazing. We enjoyed the grapefruit, omelette, French toast and the drinks and coffee menu was terrific. I don't give out too many 5 stars- but what Liz Johnson does here is excellent!!

Stumbled upon

By Alan K |

Absolutely brilliant place the food was great and the welcome warm and friendly. Walked around the area looking for somewhere to have dinner and stumbled upon Mimi's simply fantastic. Great food wonderful entertainment and very reasonable prices. Couldn't recommend this place enough. If you are in the area drop in. You'll be glad you did.

Very poor food and racist staff

By Neil L |

Is French Dressing meant to be orange and sweet? Better tell the French as they've been getting it wrong all these years. But smothering it over some tasteless lettuce will do the trick. Or better still, have a salad with ketchup! These are the culinary delights that await you at Mimi's. But there's more... Throw in a piano player that plays Old MacDonald's Farm and you're on for the entertainment that others must be describing in other reviews. And here comes the really nasty part - we witnessed a blatant example of racism where a lovely Armenian family were charged 21% service and we were not. They challenged the charge and were told 'everyone is charged this', but when presented with the fact we hadn't been they changed this to 'most people'. When they'd left and we were trying to leave the staff tried to tell us about what 'these people' are like. As visitors to New York, famed for its diversity, we were truly shocked by this attitude. Needless to say we will not be returning to this restaurant

Timeless

By ogerkan |

I have been going to Mimi's for over 25 years with many members of my family & friends. The place is timeless. The staff is great, the piano player keeps the crowd in good spirits and the traditional Italian fare delicious and filling. Sit on the bar side and enjoy your evening.

Live piano and friendly waiters

By Christian B |

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and such friendly waiters. If you are looking to be spoiled you are at the right place. The food is well made, and the wine selection is good. I would definitely come back.

Great new restaurant with a classy vibe

By pama woortman |

Mimi at 185 Sullivan Street in Manhattan is new, smart and relaxing. The crowd is handsome, the atmosphere very "genial" and the food delicious. We started with a cocktail designed especially for me, the birthday girl. The bartender has some serious creds and made me an elderflower drink that was exactly what I wanted. The rest of the party seemed very happy with their original and elegant cocktails. The team that opened this restaurant is young and full of skill and enthusiasm. Dinner was excellent. I started wth mussels on the half shell dressed with a perfect and classic vinaigrette. Other starters included Shisito peppers in a light batter deep fried and stuffed with brandade, and sweetbreads and mushrooms in the best gravy ever. We all sopped it up with great baguette. The main courses were just as special. The steak was served in large lean slices and came with little dollops of bone marrow and crispy potatoes. The skate was served almondine, was delectable with trumpet mushrooms and creamy mashed potatoes. Crispy skinned pork on a home made sauerkraut was exceptional. We all tucked into my birthday girl chocolate tart which was somewhere between a flourless chocolate cake and a slightly crispy chocolate soufflé on an Oreo cookie crust. It was amazing and came with ice cream. I could not have been happier! This smart little restaurant already has a following and is definitely the place to visit at the earliest opportunity!

Real New York City hangout

By Lucille S |

Read reviews here on TripAdvisor and since we were wiped out from three days of non-stop walking, exploring, we chose to eat just two blocks from our hotel. Mimi's is where real New Yorkers go to eat and be entertained by wonderful piano music and singing. What an atmosphere, lively and upbeat. Can't help but enjoy. Oh...didn't mention that food was good, prices reasonable. Staff personable and attentive. We did have a wait for our food, but they came often to update us and apologize.

Home cooking 'jazzed up'

By Latkes66 |

The 40 year old restaurant oozes ambiance(red checkered clothes in an old corner house encircled with glass porch windows that look out over 2nd Ave and also 52nd St) accompanied by a piano bar with live musicians, and true home-style Italian cooking - this place is a true delight and VERY reasonably priced as are the House wines). No wonder it is filled with local New Yorkers who are in the know..

Authentic, cosy anf fun Italian restaurant

By HES |

Great italian food, nice atmosphere, friendly and smiling staff at ok prices. Also a great pianoman that involves the guests - we will be back for sure!

Family tradition

By TW99 |

Every one of our family trips to NYC is required to include a visit to Mimi's. No matter where we go, we end up here. My girls were thrilled with their Chicken Scampi Specials, and my pasta Carbonara was excellent. We were there in the early evening this time, which meant no crowd and no entertainment, but plenty of opportunity for people watching. If you go at a more "normal" dinner time, they have live piano music. Though I reminded my kids that there are thousands of places to choose to eat in the City, I am sure we will be eating here the next time we are in town!

Great neighborhood Italian restaurant

By djense13 |

Mimi's came be recommendation of out bartender at a near by hotel. Small, charming restaurant. Nightly piano playing which really adds to the ambiance. From what I could tell wouldn't be ideal for large parties. We had 5 which worked just fine. Dinner was really good. Lasagna and Italian sausage with peppers were the top of the list.

Good food,great atmosphere

By JPW2020 |

We were staying in New York for the first time and looking for somewhere authentic to eat. After breakfast earlyish one morning we came across Mimi's. It was of course shut then so my wife and I were looking at the window to see the menu when the owner appeared at the door and handed us a menu to look at,a nice gesture. We decided to give Mimi's a try. We ended up spending two evenings there. Good food attentive service and the atmosphere we were looking for. The piano singers are not always great but that's all part of the fun if you aren't keen on that, sit by the side window as we did.Prices are reasonable as well. If we return to NYC, we will definitely be back. Recommended.

Great atmosphere, food is good.

By madeinny46 |

We wanted an intimate family Italian style place and was not disappointed. Great live piano music to enjoy. Food was average, good but presentation was lacking. Also, they do not refill soda drinks but they do not tell you that, so when the bill came...surprise! So make sure you always ask your server first in the city.

Not good, Walk on by.

By JJVADorset |

The food here was edible, buts thats all. We had 2 dishes here, one was cooked differently to requested and both were tiny and bland. Did not have desserts as mains were so disappointing. Also they asked if wanted a top up of coke and then charged extra without telling us they do not do free refills. Walk on by and give this one a miss.

Mediocre

By Brian W |

Okay Italian place that was near our hotel. When we got there at 6 it was dead except for a couple of loud guys at the bar. The food was just okay. I got the “homemade” lasagna which came out as a giant pile of mush and honestly tasted like something you get in the frozen food aisle. Other people in our party ate but you could tell they were not overly impressed. We only stayed for a little of the piano players set and you could tell they would be a good vibe. But the food was super mediocre especially for NYC.

Bad food, lousy service. Steer away

By Bruta R |

The waiter was very inattentive and we had to constantly wave to make contact. My son ordered a medium real steak. It was completely raw and was served without any side dishes. When we complained it was fried a little extra but he still didn't get any side dishes. After even more waiting and waving, he finally got some spaghetti with a sour pasta sauce. The food didn't taste anything special. After the meal was eaten and it had to be paid, 19 dollars was added in tips. Where I come from, you pay a tip if you are happy with the food and the service and I was not happy with any of the parts. This place is not worth visiting, very disappointed.

Family evening meal

By LondonRelaxer |

Great food, good atmosphere with a funny Piano player 'Chicken Delicous' he certainly is something different. Probably the best value for money meal we had and the entertainment was priceless.

A welcome surprise

By Mary L |

Found ourselves without a reservation on a Friday evening in NYC, and liked the look of Mimi’s—which proved to be an inspired choice! We were seated at a comfortable window table that afforded a view of our outdoor dining counterparts. Service was friendly and efficient, the menu broad, the food down-home Italian. We opted for classics—chicken parm and lasagne—and both were outstanding. Portions were very generous, prices low. As an added bonus, the piano player kept things lively with some standards! Hope to return soon!

Fun find

By petersnemeth |

Enjoyed a great evening with family at Mimis, loved the garlic bread with cheese and chicken with hot cherry peppers chocolate cake for dessert all with a lively piano for background music

Think again about visiting Mimis

By norfolklady47 |

I wouldn't return to Mimis; my son and I went there on our trip to New York. The overall experience was very poor. The only decent item was the wine, which they didn't make. We left most of our meal. I felt the staff were not bothered that we clearly didn't think much of the food. We couldn't get out fast enough.

Pleasant Surprise......

I'm not sure why Mimi's is 1,411 out of 8,922; I would rate it in the first 300 restaurants out of 8,922. We had such a nice evening dining out at Mimi's. We invited our nephew and one of my best friends to dine with us while we are in town. Not sure where to go, we chose Mimi's due to the location being close to our hotel. It is a very warm atmosphere with a piano playing music; so nice. We sat near a window on 52nd street, people watching while enjoying our meal and conversation. I had the Calamari Casserole, my friend had the baked ziti, my husband had spaghetti & meatballs and my nephew had veal parmigiana. I would have liked if a salad came with the meal. I just never understood that......a side salad costs almost nothing to serve and is always a crowd pleaser. Who doesn't like to begin their meal with soup or salad, especially if it comes with the meal. But that's the only thing that was disappointing. I think we would return. It was reasonably priced; $118 with tip included for 4 people. The food was good and the ambiance was very nice.

Friendly Ambience

Small Italian restaurant with piano bar. Good cuisine with typical Italian dishes revisited in the American way. Familiar and welcoming atmosphere. Good service. We will definitely be back.

A fun Time and Great Food

By btdugan |

For me, a neighborhood spot. Tourists always have a good time at the piano bar. A wide menu including all the traditional Italian dishes you love. 2nd Ave is lined with other bars and restaurants as well between 49th and 54th streets.

Disappointment

By Susana C |

We have been going to NYC for the past 20 years, every year in the month of feb. we went to Mimi's and we were not happy, food was average, service was good. House Chianti was good. I requested angel hair pasta, and they did not have it. We are going to give it a rest for a while. Check was $90 and not worth it at all.

Bad Food, Rude Staff, %20 tip automatically added be aware!

By Poshtraveller747 |

I love good Italian food and I thought with it's cozy exterior Mimi is worth to try. However, it was terrible. The food was really bad. They add the same tomato sauce to almost every course and the food was very heavy. The atmosphere was loud, the server was rude and the worst part was although it is written that %20 tip is just a suggestion (except when you are party of 5) We were 2 people and saw that %20 tip was automatically added to the bill!! There are lots of good italian restaurants in NYC such as Via Carote, Carbone I strongly suggest you to try one of them instead of spending your evening at Mimi's..

Good Italian dinner

By ginna123 |

This is a cozy spot for a nice Italian meal. We went for dinner and were enjoying the piano music so much that we stayed to have a drink at the bar and the wait staff couldn't have been nicer.

Go for the ambience, not the food

By thebigflood131 |

Go for a drink, the ambience and the music, not the food. Was there Thanksgiving eve with a party of 9. The food was at best disappointing at worst down right bad, if you want Italian there are FAR better and numerous places in Manhattan to go to. Just a few examples: baked clams where burned, the calamari flavorless and the main entrees where bland. The service was pretty disappointing too. Everything took forever to come out, drink orders were forgotten and one entree was completely the wrong order. But with that all said, if you want to go get a drink at the bar, I would highly recommend Mimi's, not a very good restaurant but a great place to drink and laugh and sing.

This is our favorite restaurant & always go there when in the City. Food is delicious & very reasonable. Service is great & there’s a small piano bar that always makes it fun!

Classic, Red Sauce Italian

By catharinenyc |

Be prepared to wait, with or without a reservation. Mimi's may be no-frills but it's classic red sauce Italian, red and white checkered tablecloths, cozy ambiance complete with piano music and reasonably priced food keep us going back for more. It's definitely become a neighborhood staple for us.

I LOVE it here

By Cerian |

I've known about this beauty for my last three New York visits and seeing Chicken Delicious is as must-see as any other New York site. You are always made to feel welcome by the staff and Chicken Delicious will keep you entertained throughout the evening. Brilliant.

Casserole catastrophe

By Thompson C |

The atmosphere was nice, amazing music, though the food was not good, except bread. Had never seen calamari casserole before.. technically still haven't, but we did get a nice pile of boiled calamari swimming in tomato sauce l that we replaced with some ziti that my friend thought was undercooked macaroni. We left confused, but smiling.

Italian restaurant, all the way

By Anna S |

This small family restaurant on the corner of 2nd Avenue is the perfect setting for any Italian-American comedy you can think about - the food, the ambiance, the loud tables, the decor - be it a family dinner or a romantic couple outing, red-and-white plaid tablecloths and all. The food was good, nothing really unique but it's also about the atmosphere and the authenticity of the place - I would rank it as average+ but the ambiance raises the bar to 4.

Skip food at all cost

By Lynn P |

Atmosphere is great, piano with guy singing all the best songs. Food was horrific. Spemoni: freezer burn, shrimp scampi: served over pasta with flavorless oil like sauce, shrimp clearly on last leg. Not sure how they are open, with all the amazing food NY has to offer. Go in for the music, but skip the “food”

Aborted Dinner

By John D |

Went in for dinner. Wife wanted to taste a red wine before ordering a glass and the female server was extremely snotty about it. We left.

Piano Bar

By Scottishperson |

Second time here, went last year while visiting from Scotland, and had to back this year to see Chicken Delicious, and he didn't disappoint. You can sing along with him or get up to sing while he plays piano. Had drinks and just some French fries as it was later on in the evening. The waitress Star is so funny and friendly, love her. This is what I would love my local to be like !

Lovely

By tania g |

This is the best place we ate on our trip to New York. It’s affordable. The food is good. It’s warm, cosy, welcoming and the guy on the piano is just right. Not too loud or intrusive. A very pleasant evening.

Ok food rude staff

By mcficke |

Atmosphere was loud, piano player/singer was very good. Waiter made an error on our bill and we unknowing left less than 20% tip. We were sitting at the table finishing drinks and catching up with friends when A female staff member, perhaps owner came over to our table and announced to all at the table that we needed to leave more for the tip. After eating Italian in the Bronx, I must say that this was mediocre and we will not return.

If you starve enough and nothing opened around

basic food , expensive, poor portions, noisy , please forget us , we will forget you thank you Pierre

Local restaurant with great food.

By Susan F |

Stopped here for dinner before going to a show. Busy little place with a piano bar. Seating is tight but it appears that a lot of locals eat here. We ordered 2 different veal dishes that were thinly pounded and so tender you could cut it with a fork. The bread that came with the meal had delicious crust and we couldn’t stop eating it. Topped the meal off with Tiramasu and decaf cappuccino. Delicious!! The only down side was the waiter wasn’t the friendliest.

Worst meal in New York

By blotalot |

We visited here as it was close to our hotel, there had been bad snow and the place we wanted to visit looked closed. This one looked busy so we had high hopes. We couldnt have been more wrong. We ordered starters of Fried Mozzarella and a fried calamari, this came and was already a massive disappointment. The mozzarella was over Fried so was hard and the Calamari was frozen and tasteless, the sauce accompaniment was tinned tomato with a sniff of basil and garlic. Surely the main could be better? We ordered veal with tomato and peppers and chicken parmigiana. Chicken was again frozen and over fried with a side order of over boiled, sloppy spaghetti with the same tomato sauce as the starter. I coulsnt finish the chicken despite how hungry i was. The veal?....... cant be certain thats what it was! This with 2 beers cost 80dollar which I can 100% say was not worth it. The staff seemed disengaged and uninterested and we couldnt wait to leave. Needless to say we wont return and wont recommend.

Stopped in here after a show

By Trish M |

Stopped in here after a show on a whim. Piano player was excellent, food was good and not to pricey, atmosphere was warm and friendly

Come here for the ambiance not the foid

By Matthew J |

I ate here on a Tuesday night. A very lively, busy ambiance with a fun, very loud piano player and customers singing along to an eclectic mix of old-time songs and even a few Christmas carols mixed in. The servers are very friendly but service is pretty slow. The food was mediocre at best. The very large Caesar salad was thrown together in a bowl unmixed with very little flavor. My Veal Milanese was tough and the side bowl of fettuccine had a bland gob of marinara sauce thrown on top and was almost inedible. The warm bread was actually quite good. So if you want a lively, loud fun ambiance and are indifferent to the meal, give it a try.

Good, sadly not great.

By Jim V |

Great ambiance. The host is wonderful. The service very good. The food spotty. The bread great. The antipasto very good. RawClams Lukewarm and not well detached. Veal piccata needed lemon. Both it and my friends chicken parmigiana needed to be pounded to tenderize. Portion of piccata- nouvelle cuisine small. Peppers and onions with spaghetti- sausage was lackluster. Wine carafe very good. Desert- very good. Coffee good. Overall food presentation lacks minimal or even traditional garnish (no lemon on picatta) nothing green on plate. No berries or even a dusting of anything on the cheesecake.

Do yourself a favor!!!!!

By Nancy M |

Mimi's is THAT restaurant - the red and white checkered tablecloths, good Italian home felt cooking. Good food, good prices- consistently! Been several times. Never disappointed!!! Portions are generous. You won't leave hungry! Piano bar entertainment a lot of fun! Excellent staff! Dom, the owner is a heck of a nice and good guy! Highly recommend you make Mimi's a priority when you travel to The Big Apple!!!!

Italian Food

By morgankanerules |

Nice restaurant with good food. I had some Carbonara and it was as good as it gets. I ordered garlic bread. Just so you know they serve you complimentary bread so being alone I had two baskets with bread. A lot of bread for one person but it was good :).

Delicious lunch after an old school straight razor shave!

By beeb996 |

Great waiter, great food, great environment, great location! Found this restaurant next to the Premium Barber Shop as a place for lunch and the service was excellent, the carbonara pasta was amazing, would definitely go again!

Old School Italian delivers on every level

By KG |

Went to Mimi’s last night with friends and as always, it did not disappoint! We had drinks at the bar during the short wait for our table. The bartender was friendly and quick to serve us excellent drinks and good pours. We shared plates to dine. The stuffed pepper, an appetizer, was delicious and enough for 4 people to share. The shrimp cocktail did not disappoint - fresh, jumbo shrimp were served with the tastiest, homemade cocktail sauce. For dinner, everything was served hot and fresh. We shared the carbonara (wow!), lasagna, and a chicken parmesan that was top shelf. Meanwhile, the piano player played a mix of old classics and new favorites that everyone knew, and could sing along to if they wanted. We didn’t have room for dessert, but I did have an excellent martini espresso to finish the meal. So much fun! I can’t wait to go back!

Not worth eating.

By worldtraveler1102 |

No. I went to this restaurant since I had eaten Italian food for quite somtime-last time it was in Minneta in the village. The service was very bad; i got water and break after 20 minutes of seating. The veal dish I ordered at the waiter's recommendation was not good. The accompanying pasta was also mediocre. Do not plan to visit again.

Early dinner

By beachcomber87 |

Mimi's was everything we expected and more. Food was great, especially my shrimp scampi (best I've ever had). Visited early evening and enjoyed a meal with my husband while wonderful, live piano music accompanied our food. Staff was outstanding. The gentleman at the door (sorry forgot your name) was very engaging while telling us some of the history of the restaurant and surrounding area. Wish we had visited maybe later in the evening as I believe it was a lively place to be with good food and music.

The live music is the best part of this restaurant, since it's not the food.

By Miguel H |

We had the chicken Piccata and chicken Parmigiana both common dishes, but both dishes were very bland with little or no lemon or butter. There were only 3 other tables with small parties yet we never saw our server. The dishes we were served were warm not hot dishes. Next time I would go to Little Italy, but if you want to hear a good piano player this is the place just have a beer and not the food! In years past this was probably a good place, but it has not been maintained.

Disappointing meal and cost

By S2366H |

This restaurant does not compare with the Italian restaurants in Arthur Avenue, Bronx. The clams starter was OK, but my pasta dish of baked ziti was very disappointing. The taste and the texture seemed to me as if it had come from a packet and just reheated. The plate was extremely burning hot so must have just come out of an oven. To automatically add 18% as a gratuity and then leave a blank for a tip on the credit card slip was below the belt for such a meal. Definitely would not return or recommend it. Try Arthur Avenue, Bronx for very good Italian food.

Whenever I'm in the city, Mimi's is a must visit.

By henryortega20 |

We discovered this Italian restaurant late one evening after working a school event. We ate, we drank, we listened to folks at the piano bar (some were pretty darn good) and were treated with the wonderful hospitality of Mimi herself. The food is great, the atmosphere is awesome and the bread, seems to be never ending. I tried, the veal, lasagna, ravioli among many others and I have no complaints.

Old School New York Restaurant

By shads1300 |

What a great restaurant! Full of character, and characters - it is a must visit. I would recommend the chicken parm or the veal milanese which is always good. Decent prices, and fun atmosphere. Hope you manage to see the famous 'Chicken Delicious' !

Still Just a 3

By eaglesclaw121 |

We ate here in July and thought it was just average. Nothing has changed. The chicken is excellent, the pasta is poor. The lasagna was almost runny in texture and tasteless. It is pricy for the quality. Service is average.

A bad Italian joke, not an Italian restaurant

By Aldo M |

We went to this restaurant because we have red good reviews about it, and it turned to be a complete disappointment. It looked that we were inside a Fellini's film, Upon entrance there was a guy at the piano which was either hitting the wrong piano key or the piano was untuned, terrible and dismal .....the waitress had a complete lack of manner, she was literally throwing the plates in the table, without considering who was eating what, pushing things around and with a nasty attitude. We felt absolutely terrible The quality of the food was beyond bad, we left more than half untouched. I truly do not understand how people can give this place such good reviews, have they ever been in a real and good Italian restaurant? Save yourself the aggravation of the service and the poor quality of the food, do not even think of going here

Small and Beautiful

By Victor S |

From service to food, everything is personal and perfect. One feels the care in every detail. A real find in New York in which the small personal restaurant is a very rare breed.

GREAT LOCAL RESTAURANT

By CTS_Knows |

I hadn't been here since the mid seventies when I lived in NY. It was basically the same as I remembered it. LOVE the upper East Side. We got here at 7 and were seated right away at a cozy little table with the view of 2nd Ave. I ordered a drink and about a minute later our waitress Judith asked if we were ready. I responded that I would like to finish my drink and she lashed into me. She looked like she should be at the Waffle House barking orders. When she didn't return for 20 minutes, even though she was taking orders at the next table I spoke with the manager and we were given a different server. His name was Bryden and he was just fantastic. We placed our orders and everything was timed perfectly. The food was very good and tasty The piano player kept us entertained with jokes and some nice tunes. I was later told that Judith had some personal problems and she is usually a very nice person. I hope so because this place is a really great little place. The vibe was right!

Disappointing

By Chapel-Hill-NC-USA |

We ate at this restaurant not long ago based on wonderful reviews. However, the food did not meet the high standards we had expected. The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, almost unheard of in a quality restaurant nowadays. The main dishes were mediocre. However, the bread was tasty. The service was slow and we left less satisfied than we were expecting.

Not Impressed

By PWSoccer |

I visited this restaurant on a recommendation from the hotel I was staying at on business. I was terribly disappointed. The service was terrible. I had to ask if there were any specials and it took 20 min to get my bill even though the place was not busy. The food was disappointing all around, even the complementary bread was awful. It's a shame as the location and piano entertainment are ok.

still here after all these years

By kathyrich |

been taking friends and family here for 30 years. Feels cosmopolitan and yet small town at same time. Piano Player started around 6p which was perfect, he made you feel at home. It was a tuesday and i forgot his name but Ill be back (needless to say). Service was very prompt. Food was NYC Italian American…parm palace type but the ambiance made up for it. Plates aren't that big but with and app and coffee it was a full meal.

Warm, friendly, fun, laid back, kid-friendly and excellent food!

By Phoebe K |

This was our second time celebrating a family event at Mimi's - and again, we loved it! Food was excellent - the team at Mimi's was warm and welcoming and they took great care of us! I recommend it often to people...it's not every day that you find a place with live music (it's a piano bar), great food and that accommodates/welcomes families. It's a great little neighborhood gem.

Very pleasant meal experience

By Dermot C |

Happy to recommend this place which has a warm and lively atmosphere, and good food at not exorbitant prices for New York. Was part of a short stay in the city. Chanced upon it during a walk and had a really good experience. One slight quibble was that the coffee wasn't hectic, but all else wonderful. Piano man was giving it socks as well - a few locals at the bar joining in.

Chicken Delicious show was a downer :(

By dewmkw84 |

Thought we had found the perfect blend of a neighborhood restaurant and piano bar only to find that the C-D performance was not only off color, but served merely to entertain the regulars. Andrew that was a real shame. Dinner was delightful. Our waiter was very good. And the piano player for the first part of the evening was great. We opted to stay after dinner expecting to be entertained by their “headliner” only to find a bizarre scene that combined long periods of chatter between C-D and his admirers and very little piano playing and singing. Recommend going any night that has other performers and you’ll enjoy an old school evening.

Great location. Great atmosphere. Blah food.

By Jesse S |

We were looking around for a nice family-type Italian restaurant with something extra. We found Mimi's and the something extra was the piano bar. The piano playing was fun and entertaining. However the food was clearly substandard. The preparation was OK, and the service was decent, but the quality of the food--specifically the chicken--was not very good. The chicken was tough and grisly--clearly not the best. If they charged a couple of bucks more and better ingredients, this place would be a real winner.

Great atmosphere, food ok, service fine.

By 14jaym |

We were walking East away from the busy main avenues looking for somewhere to eat and came across this buzzing little restaurant which looked warm and inviting on a cold December evening. We enjoyed almost everything about our experience there. The speed of service was not quick but it suited us to take it slow. The waiting staff were patient with us when we were slow to make up our mind then again when someone changed their side order. The drinks and bread and butter were welcome while we waited. The only slight negative was that the food was just ok: nothing special. But do you know what, that’s ok too!

greatest place in nyc!

By csanna |

highly is recommended, nice staffs, good entertainment, we will come back! the chicken parmiggano and the shrimp marinara is very good..and the apple pie:)

An okay restaurant in Manhattan

By Greenyab |

We wasn't overly impressed with this restaurant but it was an okay experience with okay food. Not sure if will return

Great food and staff but amateur singers awful

By G G |

Been here many times. Always have Shrimp Scampi on Linguine - very tasty and Mimi is a character. This and the fabulous resident pianist called 'Chicken Delicious' who uses masks, props and funny background music are the highlights for me (even though the unique content of the 'show' is for some reason getting thinner on the ground and unfortunately getting later in the evening). However ... The amateur singers that turn up off the street for their 'set' - they really are awful as they simply cannot sing. This pain was fortunately quelled by the bar maid grabbing the mic at the end of the night. Make it the 'Chicken and the Bar Maid Show' please.

Late night dinner

By 1304MAR |

Lovely little place for dinner, felt very traditional with the piano playing in the background. Felt the starters were a little overpriced but still very tasty. The main courses were delicious and reasonably priced. Staff were attentive, no real complaints, would go here for dinner again!

Satisfying food

By Heather O |

We booked for a table of 8 & where seated near the door, But one of our party had to sit on the end of the table in the aisle !! Which wasn’t ideal. Our orders were a little slow to be taken But after that point things Turned for the Better!!! Our waitress was a lovely lady who treated us very well the food was Hot Tasty & Plentiful & the atmosphere with the piano was up beat & Friendly Little disappointed at the start of our evening but other than that we all walked away Happy & Full

Awesome food, great service and fun entertainment

By mj2232016 |

The food was beautiful and was really authentic - be wary of huge portion sizes though, we couldn't finish our food! Staff were lovely and really helpful, but the highlight of the night was the piano players - earlier in the evening the piano player sang Christmas songs and it was beautiful and really added to the atmosphere. By the end of the night, a character named 'Chicken' had taken the piano and he was hysterically funny. Prices were very reasonable - thank you for a wonderful evening!

Nice Authentic Italian

By maling45 |

Busy bustling restaurant which offers an authentic experience. Lovely soft fresh bread served with meal. Lasagne was nice. I chose the pasta with garlic which was so strong I had to cover my mouth for the rest of the night! Nice bottle of Orvieto. Italian meal in New York-done.

Fantastic piano bar

By HonestMcHonest |

Fantastic piano bar -- Chicken Delicious (yeah that's his name) is fun but the real star is Daniel. Food is reasonably priced not bad not great but plentiful. Fun convivial atmosphere

Disappointing

By B K |

I had the chicken Marsala. The sauce was very watery and the pasta was cold. Olive Garden is much, much better. The service was very slow.

We had a rude waitress who was eager to bill us as much as possible -I won't ne back

By Let's make Astoria's restaurants better! |

A traditional Italian restaurant with reasonably priced food, but a very rude waitress who spoiled the evening Mim's was my destination for dinner on Monday. With a couple of friends, we ordered Calamari and meat ravioli. I found the layout of the restaurant, okay, but the waitress charged me extra for a soda. While this was a minor point I do not intend to return.

Love the music, not the service

By Parrothead66 |

Let's start with the positive - the atmosphere is great - wonderful musicians at the piano playing great sing-along music with people who love Broadway or just music in general. What's not so great is the food (just average, although not terrible) and the service. Our server for dinner was fine - but the "hostess" Judy is actually scary. She can be as rude as we've ever seen - downright nasty almost daring you not to return. Well, guess what? After our last visit, we won't be returning. You could have Billy Joel on piano and we wouldn't go...

Food is average, the entertainment is not!

By Peter B |

We went to Mimi's with some friends while at a meeting in Manhattan. We both had the veal parm; I've had far better in Virginia! Nothing special with the food or the sauce. However, when Chicken Delicious got behind the piano the ordinariness of Mimi's disappeared. It needs to be experienced and is hard to explain!

Great Italian restaurant - pricey but good

By OHTEMPUS |

If your looking for awesome service, a piano bar...really a bar where you can sit at the piano and have a drink, and good food go here. Make sure you have some dough because your going to need it. 5 people with drinks came out to 220.00 dollars. The owners were super nice. The food was good but for 20.00 I am use to a high plate. Their plates were like of small but packed a big punch. The entertainment was good. They both were pianists but the second act later in the night was fun - his name was Chicken, haha! Great place for a date or anniversary

Go for Chicken Delicious not the chicken parmigiana

By HonestMcHonest |

Chicken Delicious -- plays a few nights a week -- there are a lot better piano players but not many who are as much fun -- food is OK but the piano is the reason to drop by

Cozy italian restaurant/ piano bar.

By Dee |

It has a great atmosphere. It feels very warm and casual. It's small so there isn't a lot of table room or space between tables but you don't feel cramped. The food was good and a decent price for midtown.

Oasis during the Grayson storm

By Twin |

After asking a local person for a good place to eat and drink in the city, we were sent uptown 6 blocks for three of their favorite places. But as we were looking around we stumbled upon Mimi’s. Walked in and got a table for 4. We just had drinks and apps but both good. We had the antipasto and calamari and a carafe of wine, (cheaper than four separate glasses). Our waiter told us this way was cheaper, thanks! The restaurant was warn and inviting. We will return.

Mimi's restaurant, The Best Time Ever

By adieleshkenazi |

Mimi's restaurant was a fortunate fine for me and my family. Highly recommended by the hotel concierge, the place was as much fun as the food was fantastic. The staff made me feel right at home, and the people that we met were extraordinary fun. The piano player was phenomenal.

Felt like home away from home.

By BRBE001 |

We found this place by luck when walking around to find something for supper after walking all over New York City all day - we were tired and hungry. Loved it! Piano playing and singing going on - hostess has been there for over 30 years so she knows her restaurant and customers. Makes everyone feel like you are at their home for supper. Great food and service.

Great local Italian

By anorth52 |

We live nearby and it's always busy when we walk by so we thought we'd give it a try. Now we know why it's busy, the food is excellent local Italian restaurant fare, the wine choice is good and it's oustanding value. It has a great atmosphere and we'll be going back.

A Magical Evening at Mimi’s Restaurant & Piano Bar – Manhattan NY

By Andrew L |

Tucked away in Midtown Manhattan, Mimi’s Restaurant & Piano Bar is a true gem that blends old-school charm with soulful entertainment. We recently dined there and were blown away by the warmth, the music, and the care we received. Our waitress, Edina, was an absolute standout. My wife has a long list of food allergies, and Edina handled it with grace and patience. She took the time to go over the menu, checked with the kitchen, and made sure every dish was safe and satisfying. Her attentiveness made us feel genuinely cared for—something that’s rare and deeply appreciated. The piano bar is the heart of Mimi’s, and it did not disappoint. The pianist was incredibly talented, weaving classic standards and jazzy renditions into the evening like a soundtrack to a perfect night. Guests were singing along, clapping, and even making requests. It felt like being part of a living, breathing cabaret. The Italian cuisine was hearty and comforting, with generous portions and classic flavors. The cozy interior and vintage decor created an intimate vibe that paired beautifully with the music. Whether you’re out for a romantic dinner or just looking to unwind with great tunes and a martini, Mimi’s hits the mark.

Cute Spot for Dinner with Piano Bar

By cbtbhbyall |

I took my family here for dinner while we were in NYC for Spring Break. Food is good, but the atmosphere is excellent. It has a very cute bar scene with a piano player. The owner (and the piano player were very gracious and let my daughter sing with the piano player. It is a memory she will never forget and we were so appreciative of their gracious welcome to their restaurant.

Great Chicken Parmiagana

By nyctraveler230 |

Three of us for dinner. Quickly waited on for drink and food orders. Very nice and varied menu. Bread served with drinks and bread was very good. Nice and warm. We ordered a salad so the 3 of us could share it. Nice house dressing. Two of us ordered the chicken parmiagana and one ordered the chicken cacciatore. Both were good sized portions and delicious. Good drinks, good service and delicious food. Better than your average Italian restaurant. Not fancy but inviting. We will be back. We sat near a window so it could carry on a conversation not interfered with by the piano playing.

Great meal/great staff

By rlbrown77 |

We were looking for a place to eat a "nice" but not "crazy expensive" meal with our 8 year old. Mimi's was great. Host was fantastic (paid special attention to our child), food was fast, was good, and with a bottle of wine was cheaper than lunch we had the day before in Times Square. Get a seat in the "outside" area, which was great on an unseasonably cold night. Great view of Chrysler building and 2nd Ave intersection.

Great late dinner with tasty Martinis!

By LittleOldUs |

We were visiting family from out of town and got into some Martinis at our hotel early in the night. When it came time to head out to dinner, we were asked what we wanted. We said, "Italian, Piano, Wine and maybe more Martinis..." Well, Mimi's covered all of those bases. We had a great dinner including good jazzed up home-style food, a piano player who played any of our requests and a ton of other fun songs and an entertaining server. Well done Mimi's!

Simple and good

By corinne m |

A friendly welcome, hearty dishes and a reasonable note especially in New York. We had a very good evening.

Nice Fine

By Glenn1231 |

Visiting our son who was in from Chicago we saw this restaurant after picking him up at his hotel. The service was great but the food was even better. And where can you go in NYC and feed five people for $110.00. Their pasta and Garvey was fantastic as was their meat and fish dishes. I had the squid and it was amazing!

Local Restaurant!

By southernsunworshiper |

Found this restaurant when walking past. Luckily they had a table available as they were really busy. The staff were great, the food was good and seemed to be full of local people on a Sunday which was nice. The pianist was an added bonus!

Fantastic atmosphere and food

Felt shortchanged by an American Italian restaurant in NYC

By Bosco C |

The restaurant we wanted to go to was fully booked, so we walked a block further and thought this looked nice, as the atmosphere looks ok with the piano playing in the background- we were thought we gave it a try. We were sat down by a white haired older lady who didn’t say much and just pointed us to a table. After a few minute a nice waiter came and gave us glasses of water and then we waited 10mins before the waitress came to drop us off a menu. We had to wait another 10mins before she came back to take our order. Personally I found her a little bit rude and didn’t really like it when she had to wait a moment longer as we were taking our time ordering. The good waiter that gave us water dropped us off some bread and went. Then the food came, the baked clams were mediocre, rigatoni with tomato sauce was watery seems like using a tin of chopped tomatoes, minicotti was over baked and seems to have too much cheese, carbonara linguine was average at best. We didn’t really want to have dessert but chose to tried their tiramisu- how silly of us, we could have made it better ourselves at home back in the UK. Disappointment after disappointment we decided to get the bill and it came with a 20% gratitude slapped on automatically and had to wait for the waitress another 10mins to come back to bark at me to go to the machine as the machine won’t come to me.. furthermore there was another 3.95% processing fees to add on for using cards… I am glad I don’t live in New York as I don’t have to come back to this restaurant again EVER!

Great atmosphere

Wonderful veal and pasta dishes. Piano entertainer singing frank Sinatra and attentive service by the owner. Best place we ate in New York City

Always good to be back

Mimi's is one of our favourite Italian-American restaurants in NYC. The atmosphere couldn't be cosier, with the mid-Manhattan groove just outside the window and romantic piano music played live every night. When sipping an excellent glass of wine while waiting to enjoy some mouthwatering spaghetti with meatballs or an outstanding eggplant parmigiana at Mimi's, you really know you are in New York again.

Nice Friday Evening

By Mats |

Nice Italian restaurant with a cosy atmosphere. We stopped by a Friday evening without a reservation. We were advised to have a drink at the piano were a woman was playing very nice songs on Fridays. After a while we had a tabel and enyoed a very good meal in a enjojable environment during a Friday evening.

Food looked amazing, the piano player was VERY entertaining

My wife and her friend dragged me to this place to be at the piano bar. We were seated in a packed room where the staff knew many of the regulars. As food was served around us, the piano player alternately played, bantered and insulted the audience. People came and went who came to sing, some were good, a few were great and one or two need to stay at home and sing in the shower, but I applaud their bravery. Drinks were solidly made and staff kept them coming. The staff also entertained the crowd. You can't be shy if you go to Mimi's.

Great dinner

Real Italian restaurant. Not a tourist destination which I loved. I will definitely make it a regular stop when I am in NY. Prices are excellent especially for NY.

A Neighborhood Piano Bar With Character

By HVRW |

Whenever I visit Manhattan, Mimi's is always a must stop in the evening before I head back to my hotel. Although there are much better restaurants in NYC, very few places can match the character of this neighborhood piano bar with its snappy bartender, inexpensive drinks, late-night food service, and regular clientele who pack this place night-after-night to hear Chicken Delicious (a/k/a Hunter Blue) entertain on the piano.

Something for Everyone

You must attend on Saturday night. The live piano man is simply perfect. Couples and Family friendly. Good menu and fine portions. The mussels really is a dish for two. Shrimp scampi was good only six shrimp included a salad or soup... choose salad. Mussels were tasty and I couldn't finish hardly. Hot bread at the table if your into that. I am. The food was good and nothing fancy. The drinks were well priced for NYC. Mimi's is in midtown, close to Grand Central and at a breath away from other restaurants, bars, hotels etc... and a walk away from any public transport. Worth the visit on weekend on a budget or not.

Our favorite local place

After eating here at least a half dozen times over the past 2 years, I realized I had never submitted a review!! This place is less than a 5 minute walk from a coop we purchased about 2 years ago. Our first visit was after our interview with the co-op board..and it was destined to not be our last, since it became our favorite place! Always friendly service, great tasting food in generous portions. Wife has dined there alone and been treated wonderfully. As an example of their wonderful service, when curious about the 3 choices of house wines by carafe, the waiter brought us all 3 to sample! Warm, friendly place. My favorite is the calamari casserole but had the veal/eggplant parmigiana as a change 2 days ago and loved it! Highly recommend!

Delicious food, fun atmosphere, proffesional and dedicated staff

Mimi's has been around it seems forever, I think mid 1970s. You are greeted by the host, Fred who will seat you. I like to be close to the piano and be entertained while I eat a delicious Italian meal and wash it down with some wine. If you are lucky, you may be entertained by Chicken Delicious who will put a smile on your face as soon as you see him. He is quite the showman, plays a great piano, sings some great songs, uses masks, hats, wardrobe, and props to tell stories so that we laugh and sing along. He may ask where you're from and I once responded Costa Rica, well wouldn't you know that he took out a small Costa Rican flag and played a CD of the National Anthem. I have seen him do that with a table of French folks, Edith Piaf went over well. There's a nice big glass bowl on his piano so show your appreciation if you enjoyed the free show. If you happen to be alone and there's a spot at the bar, you may want to sit there and Dominick or Laurie (I don't know the names of the other mixologists, sorry) will take good care of you. Sometimes you get a treat and someone with an amazing voice will get up and blow you away. So have fun, sing along and Mangia

Good Italian food at reasonable price

We had been to the UN Building and chanced on this restaurant on the way to the Roosevelt Island Tram. The service was a little slow but the pasta was very good. Prices also very reasonable.

Everything you want from late dinner in the city

By Karen J |

One of my chronic problems is eating in NYC - i know that sounds weird in a city that is literally crammed with the finest food in the world but i am never in the right place at the right time - the places i try to plan to go are booked well in advance - I can just never get it right. so - we asked at the hotel and they recommended this place and it was JUST PERFECT great local atmosphere provided by locals - not chainy or touristy and corporate super warm and welcoming they were asking all about where we had come from and what we were doing while in town - like there is that notion that new yorkers are rude - while that has NEVER been my experience the several times i have been there - if there were rude new yorkers they are no where near mimi's - or maybe there is some be nice to the incomers campaign because people i found to be generally kind in NYC. anyway - the food was great and I am a very picky eater so the server and kitchen did a great job on my specialty order - and they stay open really late - and they had live music on a week night - just a ton of fun

Piano Bar , Great food and fun night!

By Bobs |

This place is a "Blast from the Past". Not only great Italian food, they have a piano player who takes requests and people can sing too if they want. So much fun and entertainment. You have to talk with Judy the manager, she is a live wire too. New York's little GEM on 2nd Ave & 52nd St..

You can't visit New York without seeing Chicken Delicious!

By Sarah B |

Mimi's is a quaint little restaurant with a lot of personality. From the hostess to the waitstaff to the bartenders this place makes you feel like home in the big city. But the most incredible part of dining and dining at Mimi's is Chicken Delicious. A true artist in so many ways the piano will melt your heart, the jokes will make you laugh out loud more than once, and the kindness and heartfelt conversation you can have with Chicken Delicious all while he is performing multiple numbers from Broadway on the piano is unforgettable. I visit Mimi's every time I go to see my best friend and Chicken Delicious always makes my night and makes me wish I could make to NYC more than every couple of years. <3 Happy holidays to all of you at Mimi's, thanks for being part of my pre-christmas vacation.

Great Atmosphere and good eats

By madeinny46 |

Food was averagely good, not fantastic. Live piano provided great ambiance. Restaurant does not offer free refills on soft drinks. We didn’t know to ask that, nor were we told. Surprised when the bill came. Please ask your server first at ANY NY restaurant. Lesson learned. Overall very good neighborhood place.

Perfect for solo travellers, great food and staff

By Amber Sheridan |

The staff are so friendly. They go out of their way to know your name and help you out. I came in alone and sat at the bar. A local was friendly and started conversation and the staff (Lori) was super friendly and got me new water without me even asking. The food was absolutely amazing. The price is really good for New York City and considering the portion sizes which are massive. I got a large plate of garlic bread and cheese for only 5 dollars. I am in New York for only 5 nights but I will definitely be coming back before I go. The pianist was great and the atmosphere was lively. For a solo traveller this is definitely the place to be!
